On several occasions in hot weather {75 +}, zuma would not start. Put scooter in shade, or cool location for 15 minutes or more, and would restart. Noticed when would not start, the fuel pump could not be heard as normal. On one occasion, had to hose down with cold water to get to start. Called dealer service, was told they didnot know of any problems. They did say they had a zuma dropped off that day with a similar concern.

Fuel pump failed. I replaced it with a new one. Runs good so far.

2009 yamaha zuma 125 scooter engine will not start in temperature over 100 degrees fahrenheit. Turn ignition on and fuel pump/fan does not come on as usual, engine turns over will not start (no fuel). Bring scooter inside home (80 degrees) to cool down, turn on ignition and fuel pump resumes operation. Intermittent problem that leaves vehicle completely disabled.spoke to yamaha dealer and they acknowledged that it has been a problem with the zuma 125 scooters and cost approximately $400 to replace fuel pump on a $2,800 scooter.

In warm weather fuel pump fails causing vehicle to stall.

Yamaha zuma 125cc engine; fuel pump malfunction; when scooter heats up from use or from hot weather, fuel pump does not engage and engine will not start. Must wait for engine to cool down before it operates again.

The contact owns a 2009 yamaha zuma. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning. The contact assumed that the failure was caused by the fuel pump. The vehicle failed to restart. The dealer advised that the repair part was on back order. The vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The current and failure mileage was approximately 700.

In hot weather (greater that 90 degrees) engine stalls and cannot be restarted until engine cools for an hour.stalled at red light in four lane highway.needed to push to side of road.very dangerous.stalled again next day same situation.runs fine at night when cool.

We bought this brand new in 09'. I rode this only around the neighborhood because our family members live close. We thought we had a battery problem at first and replaced it in 2010. Then we went on a trip so i wasn't able to ride it much for the season. We tried to run it in 2011 and it ran for a minute (in the driveway) and then it stopped and would not start at all.we tested the new battery and it was not the problem.so i couldn't ride it at all last year.this year we bought another battery and still not firing.the one thing we noticed was no pump sound.this thing is almost full of gas so that's not the problem.we know its not the battery.we checked the fuses and they are good.its the fuel pump. They need to recall this and solve this issue.these scooters are to expensive to just look at. I put only 95 miles on it the first summer riding it.and the fuel pump goes out. Please don't tell me i should have stopped taking care of my very sick father-in-law for 2yrs (who passed away this month) to make the "scooter" a priority.how were we suppose to know there was a problem with a faulty fuel pump? yamaha never sent us a recall letter or told us that this might become an issue.thanks yamaha. By the way...we bought 2 new ones in 09' and about $6500.00 later we are afraid to ride the other one for fear of being stranded.

I had been riding for a few miles and my scooter just stopped. When i tried to restart it, it wouldn't start. The fuel pump wouldn't even turn on. I've read about many more people having this problem. When will there be a recall? it's $200 to fix this problem that i shouldn't be having.

The fuel flow seems to cut out at idle when it's hot out, when it's been running for a while, and/or when it's pointing uphill.

Known issue for quite some time. Most, if not all chinese made fuel pumps on 2009 yamaha zuma 125's have failed or will fail. Yamaha, so far, refuses to acknowledge that they have a problem, and refuse to fix the issue. Or even replace the part.

Fuel pump fails to engage when key is turned to the on position and therefore the vehicle will not start.

When it is hot, my yamaha zuma 125 will stall at a traffic light and will not restart. Waiting and trying again seems to be the only solution available. The wait time is unpredictable, 15 minutes to 2 hours. Suspecting it is related to heat i try to wait in shade.the problem first manifested more than a year ago, and is happening again with increasing frequency. This summer is hotter than last.i have noticed recently theusual hum w/clicking sound that happens when the key is switched on is not happening when there is a problem. I believe that is the fuel pump spinning up to pressure. I believe my fuel pump is unreliable under these driving conditions.

Fuel pump doesn't engage. Scooter won't start. After letting it set for an hour or two it will start again.

Fuel pumpfailed only after 1353 miles of used.

Fuel pump works inconsistently when hot as described in other complaints. Replaced under warranty in summer 2010. Problem has recurred. It has now left me stranded four different times, two of which were on the side of a busy street.

Being that there has been issues and complaints filed with the 2009 yamaha zuma 125cc fuel pumps, the problem is the fuel pumps are defective and causes a hazard in traffic ,stalling of the scooter while driving .this creates a problem at hi speeds and also happens when you shut the bike down after a ride. After this happens the fuel pump will not pump fuel to re start the bike, which leave the driver stranded ,the bike will restart ,after the bike has cooled down for 3 to 4 hrs. And sometimes longerheat might be causing the faulty pump to fail when driving . Bad design . Yamaha is well aware of this issue ,but no recalls . What is it going to take to get a mandatory recall on all 2009 125cc scooters,i would hate for someone to run into me because of my bike stalling in traffic. It is a matter of time before someone gets hurt or killed due to this issue. On 12/21/12 i was driving down us41 at 50mph. When in the middle of traffic rush hour ,traffic all around me .at this point my bikes fuel pump cuts out ,then the scooter slowed down real quick, almost like putting on the brakes . Now being in the left lane i have nowhere to go. I almost got rear ended by the car that was in the same lane as i was ,good thing he was paying attention .
