My motorcycle, a 2001 yamaha yzf-r6 has white spots from the battery leaking all over.the acid is leaking all over the rear swingarm, left rear set, the drive chain, and the rear shock assembly.i have noticed this when the bike was still under warranty, but i didn't know it was from the battery leaking acid.i thought it was the aluminum oxidizing or road grime.it has been happening for quite some time until i noticed it on many other r6's of different years.then i discovered that it is a serious problem on hundreds of yamaha yzf-r6's around the country!!!!!!! the problem i have is that the motorcycle is currently out of warranty but the problem started while it was on warranty.i have called yamaha customer relations and they act as though they have never heard of it.but on the online message board that i use(www.r6messagenet.com) there are hundreds of other people with the same problem that has called in.this is critical because the battery acid is leaking all over the drive chain and suspension parts that will put the motorcycle in a dangerous situation.yamaha is giving everyone that tries to bring the problem to their attention the "runaround".they blame it on an outside third party charger that i have never used!!!! please look into this and let us know what can be done about this dangerous situation. If you need more information please check www.r6messagenet.com and click on tech questions and look at the battery leak title.thank you for your time. Philip gor.

Discovered foreign material on shock absorber and swing arm. Traced source to leakage from small holes in battery.

Battery leaking onto swingarm of motorcycle. Factory defect has been noticed on several occasions. Causes weakening of metal and major repair bills, could possibly lead to accident,

Battery leaked acid out of battery, down the tray and onto rear shock, rear swingarm and chain. Metal has been etched all over and ruined.

The oem battery leaked acid which drained onto the rear shock absorber and swingarm. Both components are corroded as a result of the leaking battery acid. I noticed this corrosion about a month after the motorcycle was out of its 12 month warrenty period.

The battery has leaked, spilling acid and causing corrosion to major suspension and drive components of the motorcycle.the rear swingarm, shock reservoir, chain, and rear subrame all have corrosion.

Battery boil and acid leaks all over swing arm, footpeg, chain etc.it's a recurrent problems and dealership refuses to admit that the product might be defective.

The batteries on the yamaha r6 leak after approx. 6 months.i am on a message board and multiple people have had the same problem.here is a link to the section of the board that contains info on this -->http://pub114.ezboard.com/fyamahar6messagenetyamahar6techquestionshere is a link to the thread -- >http://pub114.ezboard.com/fyamahar6messagenetyamahar6techquestions.showmessage?topicid=2622.topicplease feel free to contact me and other board members regarding this problem.

Original battery leak appeared 03/03/2002, yamaha fixed under warranty. They replaced swingarm, shock (both acid damaged) and replaced battery.second battery leak appeared 07/12/2002. Same problem. Bike now out of warranty. Contacted yamaha, they didn't seem to care. Battery leaked on swingarm, chain, shock. Chain could break because acid has been eating on it. Yamaha has been non responsive. As far as i am concerned, they need to fix this problem, because the original repair only lasted 4 months. This could lead to a disaster beause battery is directly located under drivers seat, acid drips down onto chain which could break under load, and acid can get onto rear tire, causing an accident.

Battery acid has leaked from the sealed battery. The acid leaked onto the rear shock assembly, swingarm, and chain, causing corrosion of the metal parts.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

The battery acid leak on the yamaha yzf r6 is a widespread problem that yamaha will not fix..

Battery leaked acid over chain, swing arm, shock, and frame.nlm

2001 yamaha royal star, tour deluxe motorcycle.ignition switch went bad. Lights stay on when key is removed. Engine still cranks with key removed but won't start unless key is in the 'on' position. Ignition switch gets extremely hot.

I have a yamaha raptor 660r 2001 atv. That has many faulty parts on it that yamaha knew of and corrected in the 2002 models. But did not offer to fix the problem in the 2001 models. The problems are the transmission, starter, clutches and carb boots blowing off. Yamaha offer a updated transmission for the 2001 for a very large price. How can they offer to sell us the parts that were faulity from yamaha. Now my atv's transmission is broken. Plus the starter will hardly start the atv. If you go to raptortranny.com you will see the problems. That web site was started just for all the problems that the 2001 raptor has. I got less than a years riding out of the atv in 3 years. Also to replace just the transmission. You have to take the whole engine apart to be able to enstall the new transmission. With cost around $1200. The updated transmission gears are differant ratio's. Plus the gears are made of harder meltals and or beefer locks on the gears. Is there anything you or i can do ? vin #jy4am01321a00987

The battery has leaked, spilling acid and causing corrosion to major suspension and drive components of the motorcycle.the rear swingarm, shock reservoir, chain, and rear subrame all have corrosion.

Severe engine knocking noise after heat up to operating temperature. Sounds like a diesel engine. Noise amplified depending on outside air temperature.

Ltr fm john and lori redmond (co) request help in getting yamaha motor corp to recall the defective transmission on their road star motorcycles. *mr other vehicles includeroad stars, silverados, midnight stars, wild stars, warrior, and v-star.the consumer felt that yamaha was involved in a cover up.they were not consistent with dealing with their customer.the transmission locked up, the back tire locked up, the bike had gone into the air and hit hard on the left side.there was also a whining and or grinding sound, and a loose ball bearings. *scc

This failure caused me to be thrown over the bars when the transmission locked up.

While riding in sand, the transmission, without warning, exploded causing me to fly over the handle bars and be thrown to the ground.the damage to the atv was extensive and was discovered to be caused by a defectively designed and/or manufactured transmission.i am aware that this is a very common problem with the yamaha raptor, especially the 2001 model.i am also aware that the 2002 raptor has the same problem even though yamaha made substantial changes to the transmission.yamaha responds by saying that the rider causes the problems by improperly shifting the transmission.that is not true!yamaha just does not want to pay the $2000 plus each transmission failure.mind you, the engine yamaha elected to put in the raptor is an old engine design that they pulled from a road motorcycle.

My 2001 yamaha raptor 660 experienced a complete failure of 2nd gear while in the middle of the woods.the machine was not abused or used improperly and had under 200 hours on it.i called yamaha about getting it fixed and the politely told me that they were not aware of any problem, did not have any bulletins or recalls on the 2001 raptor and that they did not intend on doing anything about it.after researching i found that there are numerous complaints about failures with the 2001 machines and that yamaha re-designed the gears for 2002.the following link is from a website where many people have expressed their complaints. Http://www.bluetraxx.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1034the failure is often a total lock-up of the transmission.it should be recalled for defect and safety reasons.the cost to repair my transmission will be in excess of $1,000.00.*la

I was riding my 2001 yamaha raptor up a hill when i got to the top, i heard a loud pop and my wheels locked up, at first i thought it was the chain but then i went to take it out of gear and it would not go out of gear, i took the sprocket off to get the chain off so i could get it towed back to my vehicle. Luckily i was on sand, because if i was onhard dirt or even asphalt i could have probably went over the handlebars and probably broken something.i am 6' 1" 230 lbs. I can not afford to be out of work for something that yamaha knows about because they changed the transmission for the 2002 yamaha raptors. I know of several other people all with 2001 raptors and their transmission also have locked up on them. I feel like that yamaha should do something about it before someone gets killed or seriously injured if someone has not already.

2nd gear is a design flaw on the 2001 yamaha 660cc raptor. Website forums will back this up. Atvconnection.com, atvsource.com, bluetraxx.com, and others. The tranny needs to be updated to 2002 specs. If there isn't a problem why did yamaha redesign the 2002 transmission.

Starter gearing broke, transmission may break and lock up drive wheels, possible danger of injury or death to rider, and or by-standers.

This complaint is for the 2001 yamaha 660 raptor.there are hundreds of cases where the transmission goes out and locks up the vehicle.this can cause serious injury to whoever is riding.the problem that is a known problem according to dealerships cost up to and over $1000 depending on the damages.yamaha should recall this issue before someone gets killed.please see www.raptortranny.com for the forum of the hundreds of people that have had this failure.

It is widely known that the 1st and 2nd generation yamaha yzf r1 transmissions have faulty 2nd gears which will "slip" while accelerating, or outright becomes useless causing the rider to skip 2nd gear all together and go straight to 3rd gear.this is dangerous in situations where it's necessary to accelerate to the flow of traffic and the torque curve is interrupted because of the slipping or the skip to 3rd gear which has to be done with great care and thought.yamaha will not cover this repair under warranty because they claim it's caused by abuse by the rider.

Transmission locked up and the rider went over the handlebars.

My transmission recently locked up causing my atv to come to a quick hault.i know that there have been thousands of transmission failures with these atvs but yamaha has done nothing.i believe that these transmission problems could result in personal injury if the transmission lock up at high speeds.mine however was at a lower speed.yamaha won't admit that there is a problem with these atv's but yet when i go to order the parts i need to fix my atv all the parts i need seem to be on a backorder. Could this be because there are thousands of this particualr atv trying to be fixed?this really made me angry with yamaha motors and i wanted to voice my opinion and concern.

Transmission clunks when shifting from forward to reverse and visa-versa, and misses shifts from first to second, without repair of this problem the transmission will eventually lockup while in motion causing injury or death--defective transmission gears

The yamaha raptor motorcycle exhibited transmission failure.

The transmission failed.

While climbing a hill reaching the peak rear tires locked up (transmission seezed) causing loss of control over the bike. The vehicle (atv) then rolled backwards on top of me. It caused minor scrapes, bruising and soreness. Substantial damage to the bike also.when i tried to call the dealer where i had bought my bike they denied any problems with the transmision. When i asked why improvements were made to the 2002 no reply was given.

Yzfr6-nc, when turning the handlebar the throttle cable gets pinched, causing the throttle to stick. This happened in the open position, consumer had to do a emergency shut down, which ruined the transmission. Throttle cable has become stuck 3 times.nlm
