The gts1000a was billed as a state of the art motorcycle with abs brakes to enhance safety. The abs system on the motorcycle is inoperative on the rear brake (front unknown). I have found that several other owners have also experienced the same failure of the abs brake system causing the wheels to lockup at all speeds, a very dangerous condition.
Abs system not working, abs malfunctioned, light not illuminating.
Anti lock brakes failed, abs light non-functioning.
Yahama is aware of problem, but denies it's existance, states it a maintaince problem, will not correct. No defect (s) listed.
The abs pulses, but the rear wheel still locks and skids.have not had the guts to try to lock the front wheel for obvious reasons.
Abs failed and there is no warning system. Manufacture will not repair or recall for warranty. Estimates to repair run $2-3000. Other owners 30+/200 surveyed have same problem. There were approx 800 of the 1993 and 1994 models sold in the us. This is a safety issue and the manufacture should recall and repair under warranty.
I'm am having problems with the anti-lock braking system. Now the rear abs system is not working properly. No the rear wheel will lock up intermittently when the brake is applied with a reasonable amount of pressure. In the past the brake has ben really predictable. But know the rear brake locks up with the least amount of pressure.
Abs brakes do not work, front or rear, this could lead to serious accident or injury
