Yamaha roadliner xv 1900i have a 2006 yamaha roadliner xv1900 on which the engine will die completely when coming to a stop frequently after pulling in the clutch.this has been happening since i first bought the bike back in november of 2006.in fact it happened the first day i drove it home but i thought i was out of gas and after filling up it did not occur for some time after.as the miles rolled up this problem would occur randomly when coming to a stop such as exiting a freeway or pulling up to a stoplight.one day i was actually able to replicate the action over and over again over the course of my days ride.i belong to an online community of fellow star motorcycle owners of specifically the yamaha stratoliner, roadliner and raider models. The bikes use identical components and we have noted that there are a significant number of us who have experienced this exact same problem.in the course of our discussions about it we have noted the following:#1 - it always happens when coming to a stop whether down shifting or not.#2 - if the clutch safety interlock switch is removed from the system the problem no longer occurs.this was discovered by myself and a couple other fellows whose switches had failed and were no longer functioning properly.with a failed switch the bike will no longer start unless it is neutral and the kickstand is raised.since the switch controls the electronic control module this means that there is some kind of issue with the mapping that yamaha uses to control their engines probably for control of emissions.when this happens many of us have been stuck at intersections or other locations with traffic coming behind us desperately trying to restart our bikes without getting killed doing so.this problem has been reported to many dealers and with many calls to yamaha customer service. We have all gotten the same response. "there is nothing wrong with the bike or the switch needs cleaned or replaced.

The speedometer on my 2006 yamaha stratoliner has always had problems, the gauges stop working on a regular basis but now the speedometer has started to work intermittently. I have found no recall but every roadliner/stratoliner owner i have talked to has the same problem.

My 2006 yamaha roadliner stalls almost every time i stop at a red light. It happens when i let up on the throttle and push in the clutch. My wife and i have almost been run over 20 or 30 times and almost turned the bike over many times because of this. I asked my yamaha dealer to help me but they say there is no problem on the bike. It looks to me like the only way to fix this problem is to get rid of the bike and never buy another yamaha.

Factory crimp connector inside my yamaha driving lamps on my 2006 yamaha stratolinermotorcycle. Melted causing the lights to fail at night. I am not the first to have this problem with the connector yamaha used has melted. I have pictures of the melted connector taken when i opened the light housing thinking it was just a burnt out bulb.

The crank position sensor on my 2006 yamaha xv1700 (warrior) began to fail. This caused erratic hesitation during acceleration to the point of becoming inoperable. Had it failed completely, my engine would have just died during operation, which could have very likely resulted in an accident.

While riding my 2006 yamaha roadliner 1900,i noticed a knock in third gear as i was going slow. Next ride it got louder, and a whining started coming from the transmission maintenance was performed correctly since i bought it brand new. The knock is so bad i can't ride it, i have heard of many others with this problem, at or around 20,000 miles, mine has 21,256.i have contacted yamaha for help, and they said there's nothing they can do about it since its out of warranty . Can you help ? i hear its a very expensive fix, and yamaha has already changed the gear on the newer bikes because of this problem, shouldn't there be a recall ? thank you .

My motorcycle engine stops running unexpectedly and without warning. It happens approximately every 50 miles or so. The worst consequence so far is that it made me fall to the pavement resulting in injuries to my knees, elbow and back. My bike continues to stall without warning and i have not been able to rectify this situation.

I have a 2006 yamaha stratoliner (s) with 2346 miles.the problem i am having is that for no apparent reason when coming to a stop the bike just quits running. This has happened to me three times now. Which as you can guess could be deadly at an intersection. The bike has been to the dealer and they have contacted yamaha but yamaha claims nothing is wrong and that they have never heard of this happening.this is a lie.in different forums on the internet it is a wide topic and yamaha has been notified by owners and tech support from the dealerships.

Engine stalled and cut off at ~25 mph three times when decelerating in mar 2008 (~5,500 miles), oct 2009 (~11,500 miles), and apr 2011(~15,200 miles), jeopardizing the operator's safety.per yamaha/star roadliner owners blog this is a common problem with this model and requires manual upward adjustment of engine idle rpm.

Possible failure of valves in rear cylinder of the yamaha road star causing an immediate loss of power. This can (and has) put the driver and / or passenger in danger. This has been a problem with these motorcycles for a number of years and yamaha has done nothing to correct it or prevent it from happening.

2006 yamaha roadstar motorcycle. At about 5000 miles on odometer it started running poorly. Progressively getting worse until august 14th when the rear cylinder suddenly loss all power while making a left hand turn onto a busy highway. I was able to recover the motorcycle and get to the side of the road (wrong side) before getting hit by traffic. Although the problem is well known within yamaha as a manufacturers defect, repeated attempts to get it repaired have failed. The motorcycle is currently in the shop until they decide what to do as it is unsafe to ride.

I was riding home from cincinnati on my 2005 yamaha road star going westbound on interstate 74. I was in the process of passing another vehicle when my v-twin engine instantly lost power. The semi in the passing lane behind me had to lock up his brakes causing all westbound traffic to come to a stand still. As luck would have it, nobody got hurt this time. I had the bike towed home so i could inspect why the sudden loss of power. After removing rear cylinder head, i found sludge on one of theexhaust valves and the valve was sticking. This is the same thing that happened on my 2003 yamaha road star, which i traded in for the 2005 model because of a sticking valve problem.i think that this is a very serious safety issue that needs to be looked into so that maybe it will help to prevent a loss of life.

Much to my dismay, i discovered last week, that my new $16000, 2006 yamaha motorcycle, model xvz13, heavy touring cruiser, is not equipped, from the factory, with "hazard warning flashers".after encountering heavy fog for over 80 miles, i wished to turn on my 4-way flashers for safety purposes.there is none on this motorcycle, as it is sold in the usa.the manufacturer, yamaha motor corporation usa, apparently chose to eliminate the "hazard warning flasher" switch on this particular model, replacing the normal switch, as used on similar models, with a "cruise control" switch.this is a huge oversight from yamaha, and creates a big safety problem, in case of a roadside hazardous condition, such asflat tire, emergency conditions, etc.i have always assumed that us laws called for vehicle and street motorcycles be factory equipped with this simple device?please clarify the current regulations for me, and if this is a required item, yamaha motors should be contacted immediately.

My 2006 yamaha stratoliner xv1900 stalls when i pull the clutch coming to a stop. This has been happening since i first got my bike. It happens regardless of whether or not the bike is hot or cold. I called yamaha to complain as it stalled while coming to a stop and causing an extremely unsafe situation for me and my passenger. I was told that they were not aware of a problem, yet when i took the bike to the dealer, there was a tech bulletin describing the problem and speculating on possible resolutions. Many other owners have complained of this issue. Many speculate that it is a defective clutch switch and the method by which the clutch switch interacts with the ecu.

This is a follow up complaint with nhtsa.to reiterate that complaint see complaint id: 10396064since filing that complaint i have had the bike back to the dealer for more adjustments and checking which at first seem to work but within a few days the problem returns.i just returned from a 6700 mile trip across the country and my bike had been running well with no stalling since the last adjustment a couple weeks earlier.four days into the trip i was down in louisiana when it died several times over a few hours time.one of the ways to seemingly stop the bike from quitting like it does is to disconnect the clutch lever safety interlock switch. This switch keeps the bike from being started when the bike is in gear but will allow it to start if the clutch lever is pulled in.when the switch is disconnected you must make sure the bike is in neutral to start it but it has kept the bike from dying when coming to a stop....until i was on my trip.after disconnecting the switch as i and others have been doing for the last couple years the bike died for the first time just as if it was still connected.when your sitting at an intersection or at a freeway off ramp waiting for a light to change and the bike dies like it does you must shut the bike off completely and then turn the key back on and let the bike go through it's startup diagnostics which take about a minute or longer.other cars coming off freeways don't know your dead on the road and a few of us have come close to being run over.i've personally had two close encounters with one squealing tires right up to within 5 feet of me when this has happened.yamaha has denied there is a problem even after numerous calls by many fellow owners of this model bike including myself.i'm still trying to work with yamaha but the nhtsa needs to apply some pressure to them to do some type of investigation into the cause of this problem and stop denying it doesn't exist before a rider ends up seriously injured or killed.

This is a follow up complaint for the same issue.see complaints #10396064 filed 15 april 2011 and #10410158 filed 30 june 2011.since these two complaints i have had the bike back to the dealer twice and had more things checked.and still the motorcycle continues to die randomly.today, august 15 2011 i took my granddaughter for a ride to breakfast and a little sightseeing locally and 3 times it died on us when coming to stops at traffic lights or stop signs. Now when i'm by myself i can deal with the problem but when i've got my granddaughter with me were talking a whole new safety concern which is totally unacceptable.since august 2 2011 my bike has died 12 times in five days of riding.i don't knowhow much more detail i can give than what i've detailed in the previous two complaints.as i've also stated in my previous complaints, i've been tracking fellow riders with th this same problem and am now up to 59 riders of the same motorcycle that are having this same problem.initially the problem seemed to be confined to the 2006 model years but i've got models through 2009 with the 2007 models increasing in numbers reported to me.i hope someone doesn't have to get rear ended and die before this gets rectified.

I have a 2006 yamaha star stratoliner that stalls whenever i engage the clutchand downshift when approaching a stop creating a hazard at a busy intersection. Incident as been 2007 to present.

While riding at low rpm's in 3rd gear a loud "clacking" is present. I contacted my yamaha dealer and was advised that there is a "replacement" 3rd gear listed for that model and year, however, yamaha is not acknowledging the known defect which could result in catastrophic loss of power.

I began to notice a whining from the transmission in third gear. Minor at first but has gotten progressively louder over the last month. Looked the problem up on several yamaha roadliner / stratoliner forums and found out that many others are having the same and worse problems including loosing third gear. I have read that some have tried to get yamaha to recall these but no recall to date as of yet. I will have to stop riding my bike as i don't want to loose third out on a trip. I have also red that yamaha has come up with a replacement gear that solves the problem but as of now big money is required to repair this design flaw.

Loud growling sound when running through town in third gear.

I was downshifting and heard a really load noise from the transmission.the noise is prevalent in 3 rd gear only when downshifting.it isworse as it can be heard when accelerating now.only 3rd gear is effected.i cannot use 3rd gear at all at this time.the noise can be heard when riding the bike or standing near when driving by.

I am getting a loud clacking and whine from the transmission in 3rd gear.this is the only gear that is doing it and it sounds like it is coming apart!i am afraid to ride it very far because it might brake and lock up my drive train when i am at speed on the interstate and it cause me to crash!this happens when i am going through the gears, 1st to 2nd then to 3rd and all hell breaks loose.if i go on to 4th gear it stops and the same with 5th gear.i have been told that if this gear breaks while i am riding, to be prepared for the transmission to completely lock up and it most likely will put me down and make me crash.this has been going on now for about a month and there is only 40k on this bike and no reason the transmission should be going out.i have been riding motorcycles for 50yrs and have never had a transmission problem!

The contact owns a 2006 yamaha xv19 motorcycle.the contact was driving 30 mph when the vehicle exhibited a load noise while in third gear. The contact stated the vehicle did not stall or have a defect but he was concerned that there could have been an issue with the transmission. The contact did not take the vehicle to the dealer or a local mechanic for diagnostic testing.the failure mileage was 28,000.

Failure of the middle gear shaft on a 2006 yamaha vstar classic. In my research i have found several others have had the exact same failure.

Third gear in my 2006 stratoliner "s" is completely useless.the gear has either severely worn itself or is chipped.when in gear (from 25-35mph) the transmission produces a severe whine and grinding sound.yamaha and the dealership claim there is no "widespread" issue however i am in contact with five other 2006 stratoliner owners who have the exact same problem!

3rd gear severe rattle/grind.

Third gear is howling caused by defective pinion parts within the transmission.common problem on yamaha roadliners/stratoliners xv1900's as multiple people have reported the same issue.yamaha should be forced to recall to correct manufacturing issues.i'm worried that the transmission will lock up at speed causing a catastrophic crash. Gear, 3rd pinion, p/n 99999-03864-00 (replaces 1d7-17131-01-00) .

My motorcycle (2006 yamaha xv19 stratoliner) is having a problem with 3rd gear making a loud noise. The yamaha dealership i took itto be repaired said that it is a known problem with my model and year bike. The parts that i know that were replaced were the middle shaft pinion gear and 3rd gear and seals.

My 2006 yamaha star roadliner s started making a noticeable clattering noise in 3rd gear shortly before i had 18,000 miles on the odometer. It sounds just like my 2001 yamaha road star did before a dealer discovered that there were teeth missing from one of the gears in it's transmission. I took the bike to ride now surprise (a yamaha dealer) and they told me that the noise is normal. Keep in mind that the bike did not make the noise for the first 17,000 miles. I called yamaha customer relations and they said they could not do anything and that i should get a second opinion. I an going to pick the bike up from ride now tomorrow (2/22/08) and bring it to another dealer asap. I'm filing this report as evidence in the event of a possible (catastrophic) transmission failure en route.

2006 stratoliner "s" has a very dangerous problem with speedometer light glare reflecting off of the factory windshield.the glaring light which reflect is so bad, i nearly crashed into another vehicle late at night.i have brought this up to my dealer numerous times, but yamaha fails to listen and create a speedometer glare shield to prevent the bright speedometer light from reflecting onto the windshield.the problem is so severe that all stratoliner owners are complaining about this in all online yamaha forums.when are you guys going to do something about this?! this has been reported to nhtsa before!does one of us, stratoliner owners, have to die??

Possible failure of valves in rear cylinder of the yamaha road star causing an immediate loss of power. This can (and has) put the driver and / or passenger in danger. This has been a problem with these motorcycles for a number of years and yamaha has done nothing to correct it or prevent it from happening.

On the 2006 and 2007 stratoliner when driving at night you can't see what's in front of you due to the extreme glare from the speedometer light.

Motorcycle intermittently stalls or will not start.

The accident happened on my property when i was in my routine of leaving the garage, always the same track and control manners. The steps of the event: i started the bike, set the first gear, rolled down the concrete slab. 2 seconds later the bike unintended accelerated, shooting out of the driveway into the field and the woods. I instinctively jumped off the bike and let it down in front of a tree. I landed several feet on the soft ground with a badly fractured left leg. I have ridden this bike for 2.5 years and have 6,900 miles on it.
