While riding my motorcycle down the hwy it suddenly stopped running while in the center lane of traffic i had to pull over on the side of the road with no engine running. The motorcycle would not restart and it had to get towed. The defective part is called a pick up sensor the part# is 5px-81670-00-00 and a gasket 5px15451-00-00.
1) code 12, crankshaft position sensor. Motorcycle loses all power at any speed. Motorcycle inoperative. No prior indication or warning. 2) this has happened to me on 3 different occasions. Twice at highway speeds exceeding 80 mph. This will eventually lead to a fatality and needs to be deemed as a "recall".3) i replaced the part at my expense 3 times.
The motorcycle stalled while driving at a low rate of speed and when the clutch was depressed to stop at a light.the dealer was notified.*nlm

2002 yamaha roadstar warrior transmission recall (2,995 mi.).my complaints:complaint 1:the parts to affect the repairs are not available to the dealers.no firm timeframe has been given to the dealers, but expectations are that parts will begin to arrive by march, 2004.dealers expect from 1 to 3 days of work for each motorcycle to be repaired.the waiting list is going to be large and the wait for repairs considerable.i cannot use my motorcycle until the repair is made. I have lost the enjoyment of this product, i am paying for a product that i cannot use, and i am forced to insure a product that i cannot use.complaint 2:the repairs are being done by mechanics of varying degrees of skill and experience at local dealerships, hence-there is no guarantee of a quality job (no quality assurance check),-there is no warranty on labor,-the engine is "rebuilt" versus "factory built."thus, if my motorcycle is returned to me after the repair and the engine malfunctions, i will be forced to pay for all the repairs. 3.my motorcycle has already suffered loss in value as a result of this recall.i understand i cannot sell this motorcycle until the repairs are made.my motorcycle will, in all likelihood, suffer further devalue and depreciation far greater than its use and age would otherwise dictate, simply because it will have a rebuilt motor.yamaha has not offered any offsetting compensations for my loss of use, for the potential for suffering with an inferior engine (after rebuild),for the devaluation of my motorcycle, or for the pure aggravation associated with this recall.1.i want yamaha to offer a significant mileage warranty, not tied to a date, on this motorcycle after the repair.2.i want to receive compensation from yamaha commensurate with my loss of use, my motorcycle's devaluation, and the inconvenience of having the repairs done in the manner and timeframe they have prescribed.
The contact owns a 2002 yamaha road star warrior motorcycle. While driving 70 mph the check engine light illuminated, the needle on the gauge began swinging back and forth, then the motorcycle shut off. The contact was unable to restart the motorcycle. The vehicle was towed to his residence. The dealer stated that there were no recalls related to the failure; however, the starter was the cause of the failure. The vehicle will be repaired at the owners expense. The contact was only able to restart the motorcycle by using a portable battery. The failure and current mileage was 15000.
I have a yamaha roadstar warrior motorcycle and the recall (id# 45939 - fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:mounting) was performed. This was to prevent the tank from cracking at the mounting bracket. My tank is now leaking gas from that mounting bracket. I took it to the dealer, they called yamaha usa and they said they would not fix the problem. It is obvious that either the recall did not work or that the tank started to crack before the recall was performed and finally grew big enough to start leaking gas. Your help resolving this would be greatly appreciated.
I own a 2002 yamaha road star warrior. The fuel "quick disconnects" are in my opinion, designed & engineered very poorly. They vibrate off the seat. They have never leaked fuel, the locking tab makes it stay locked so it won't leak. However, when it is against the locking tab, it moves off its seat about 3/16" and results in no fuel flow from the upper tank to the lower tank where the electric fuel pump is. That results in a "stall" situation. I was sitting at a red light waitingfor it to turn green, i started out as i always do. I was at 8 mph & the bike stalled out. The lady behind came within inches of rearending me, no exaggeration. I was scared, my heart was racing. It would not have been her fault, she saw no brake light as i was not applying the brakes. No, i wasn't hurt this time. But if it would have happened, i wonder if yamaha motor corp. Would have told my wife & daughter, "sorry we designed a pisspoor fuel connector that got your husband & father killed". This also results in a low fuel light sometimes even when the tank has plenty of fuel. This connector needs to be redesigned so as not to back off when the connector is fully seated. But it will vibrate enough to come off its seat just enough to possibly kill someone all because of decreased fuel flow. Please show this to yamaha. I know one person with a complaint like this won't mean "crap" to them but i feel it needs to be addressed. Not looked into but remedied. I've worked on general motors vehicles for 14 years, i'm an ase certified master tech so i'm not talking out of my [xxx]. I know a thing or two about motorized vehicles. The fuel filter assembly to the front of the tank will release the inner sleeve at the elbow spilling fuel all over motor. If motor is hot, can result in fire and has happened in the past. I was fortunate to have just started riding when it happened to me.

I received a recall notice from yamaha regarding my 2002 warrior the first part of february.the recall was based on certain transmission components.i purchased my motorcycle 10/31/03 and because of winter riding conditions i was not able to ride as much as i like.however, my motorcycle has 350 miles on it.i took my motorcycle to the company i purchased from, san luis motor sports, san luis opisbo, ca.this occured january 24 as the transmission was making an odd noise.i hauled the motorcycle in the back of a truck 150 miles one way, left the motorcyle at the dealership.drove home for another 150 miles.drove back to the dealership on january 31 to get the motorcycle as the dealership could not find anything wrong.at this point i have driven 300 miles.on february 7, 2004 i againg hauled my bike to san luis motor sports.the service department did not know how long it would take to repair my motorcycle as they did not have any parts to replace with.they told me they would call once a week to give me an update.meanwhile, when the first replacement part arrived the service department put that part on a new floor model motorcycle.i have called the service department several times and was told someone would get back to me.i have called the yahama corporation and was told my motorcycle would be the first to be repaired.it is now march 14, 2004 i am paying for "a dead horse"paying insurance for said "dead horse" and have not received any compensation for the 600 miles i have driven to get my motorcycle repaired.how long must i wait before getting the quality results that i am entitled to?i feel i should be compensated for my lack of motorcycle, paying for something i do not have, and a motorcycle that i traded in.thank you for your help.william wildeman.

I own a 2002 yamaha road star warrior that is being recalled for transmission problems. Yamaha has agreed to repair the bike but will only offer a 90 day warranty on the parts, nothing on labor. The repairs are not available and will not according to my dealer be available until april. My bike will be down for at least 3 months. The recall letter said that riding the bike before the repairs are made could lead to serious injury or death.

Yamaha 2002 road star transmission locked up, causing the rear wheel to also lock up at between 45-50 mph with little warning.
I just found out about the recall for my bike.i bought it in morgantown, wv mid-september.i'm really upset that i was sold a bike with a "known" problem.i am currently looking into several options with regard to "deceptive trades practices act", and will be talking to my lawyer very soon.i'm also very upset in how they are handling the entire situation.i have a bike that i'm still paying on, with insurance, but can't ride it...and no-one knows when anything will happen.
Failure to remedy situation in a timely manner and not warranting work of this magnitude (internal transmission work on recall #03v309000) for a sufficient period of time following recall procedure. Also, i want to ride my motorcycle!
Recall of 2002 yamaha roadstar warrior.just learned yamaha was notified of need to recall in august of 2003...however i only recently received a notice and have been informed by my local yamaha dealer that yamaha does not have parts for the fix and doesn't know when they will be made available.yet yamaha continues to manufacture new models of my motorcycle.in my opinion, this is wrong.
Consumer receivednhtsa 03v309000 recall letter concerning motorcycle transmission failure. Dealership did not havetheparts to conductrecall repairs.
I was sold a yamaha motorcyle by a dealer after yamaha was aware of a dangerous condition in the transmission.the motocycle is now being recalled.it should not have been sold to a consumer with this dangerous condition.
In regard to nhtsa campaign number 03v309000 dated august 22, 2003.i have been contacted by yamaha motor company and informed that my 2002 roadstar warrior, xv1700p, is affected by this safety issue and must have the recall work performed.however as of this time no parts are available to replace the potentially hazardous parts.local dealers, myself, and other owners are unable to get any information from yamaha as to when these units will be repaired.the notification letter requests that we not use the vehicle until the repair is made but the best information the dealers can obtain indicates it will be april or may before yamaha has the parts necessary for the repair.since this failure could result in death we are left without transportation until the repairs are completed, whenever that may be.
The parts to fix the recall were not supplied to the mechanic so i have not had the use of my motorcycle for 28+ days.yamaha motor corporation, u.s.a., has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in 2002 and 2003 xv17pcp, pcpc, pcr, and pcrc (road star warrior) motorcycles. In affected motorcycles, certain transmission components may not meet yamaha quality-control standards, which could allow abnormal wear that eventually results in a broken retaining circlip. If the circlip breaks, the transmission could lock up, which would also cause the rear wheel to lock up. This could result in loss of control and a vehicle crash with injury or death.
Yamaha motor corp. Has performed a recall on all 02-04 roadstar warrior motorcycles.they have advised their customers not to ride them, as the transmission could seize, resulting in possible death.however, they are offering only a limited 90 day warranty on parts and service and are making all of their faithful customers wait upwards of six months to perform the recall.meanwhile, us customers are still making our payments, paying our insurance, and will also have to have another initial 600 mile service performed after the recall work is done ($250) as the result is, in essence, a rebuilt transmission.this is horribly wrong the way that yamaha is handling this.what can be done about it?

I have received no notification of the recall for the transmisson problem with the yamaha road star warrior.the recall commends not riding the vehiclehe action yamaha is taking to rectify the issue is very unsatisfactory.
Nhtsa campaign id # 03v309000- date entered below is the date on the recall letter i received- what information have you, the nhtsa, found out from yamaha regarding the unexcusable length of time yamaha is taking in getting the replacement parts to dealers for this recall ?and who, at the government level, is investigating this problem for us (the owners of the bikes affected by this recall) ?
There has been a recall on my yamaha roadstar warrior since aug 22, 2003 for the transmission.i did not receive any information from yamaha until late january 2004 about this recall.in the recall notice it states that the vehicle should not be operated because the problem could result in inury or death.this vehicle is my main mode of transporation.i have contacted the dealer that sold me this vehicle (i purchased it new) and they have told me that as of the end of february 2004 that yamaha has not yet shipped any parts to fix this problem.they also told me that i am 17th on the list ot have my vehicle fixed and that it will take at least 2 months from the time they get the parts until they can actually do the work to fix the vehicle.i asked the dealership about a loaner vehicle until the fix can be completed.they stated that it would be up to yamaha corporate to supply any loaner vehicles.i have made several attempts to contact yamaha corporate by phone and i have always gotten a busy signal.
Received recall notification from yamaha, recall 03v-309, on 2/12/04.yamaha unable to make repairs before 8/3/04. Vehicle can not be driven until repairs are made.
I have a 2002 yamaha road star warrior which has been recalled.my vin # ends 1063. I have heard many reasons for this recall. The main opinion is that thenhtsa ordered yamaha to recall all road star warriors because of a transmisson problem. There is an overwhelming amount of information that this recall was unnecessary. Could you please tell me who exactly instituted this recall and the exact reason that it applies to my vehicle?this administrative decision has created enormous inconvenience and loss of vehicle value. I would like you to address this issue.
I've tried to turn my motorcycle in for the recall (fix) since 2/4/04, but i'm told thatno recall kits have been shipped out to fix the bikes yet and it's ok to ride the bikes. I would like to be inform on what's going on. Is it safe to ride or not ,if not then shouldn't yamaha pick up the pace in doing the fix ? i'm paying for a motorcycle that i can't ride.
The manor in which yamaha is addressing the roadstar warrior recall is unfair to the customer. Yamaha motors is not providing the repair in a timely manor, nor will they warranty the labor for the repair. This labor is not elective, the technicians that you are providing are not qualified to perform the repair. The request from yamaha that the vehicle is to be taken out of service until the repair is made is not reasonable when they are not yet providing the repair parts. My purchase was made in good faith with a company that i had previously respected. This respect has been sadly forgone with this issue.i am, i must say sorry that i have elected to purchase this product from your company and will not make the same mistake twice.
I have a 2002 yamaha roas star warrior that has been waiting on the transmission recall parts. The dealer has been given no date to get the parts. Yamaha customer relations says the the parts my be in the us this month and to the dealer mid to late march. My dealer has 30+ bikes to do and each take a day or more. Yamaha has sent a recall saying not to ride the bike and when i ask customer relations thay say park it for a few months. Yamaha is giving a 90 day warranty for parts only. Yamaha does not want me to ride but they are in no hurry to fix the problem. I have been on the waiting list for over a month now.
The owner received a recall notice (nhtsa recall# 03v 309 000/rear wheel lockup ) from the manufacturer on february 17, 2004.he later contacted the dealer and made numerous calls to yamaha mfr. But could not get any straight answers as to when the parts would be available for repair.
Yamaha motors recalled my 2002 road star warrior.they have not issued the part and have no release date.all they are saying is do not ride.i do not feel they have handled this recall in a timely manner.
Recall and inaction of yamaha motor co. To repair and adequately warranty safety of equipment and rider of said equipment.
My complaint is regarding nhtsa campaign number 03v309000.the recall was initiated on 8/22/2003, and i was made aware of it on 8/31/2003.i have contacted numerous dealers in my area since then, none of which have had the ability to perform the recall work.6 months later, i am still nowhere near being scheduled to have the recall work done, with no eta as to recall work completion.i am interested in understanding the nature of the manufacturer's inability to perform the recall work.the vehicle is still being paid for, along with insurance.many owners i know (thousands, actually - via a website that i frequent) are filing a class action lawsuit against the manufacturer.i just want my vehicle fixed, and a reasonable warranty applied to the work required to meet the safety standards outline in the complaint above.thank you.

It is with the utmost concern that i, as an owner of a 2002 yamaha road star, provide this communication to you and the yamaha motor corporation, usa. It has been known that a problem exists with the transmission, whereby at unexpected times the transmission locks, which can and has caused loss of control by the rider, thereby endangering the safety and life of the rider, passenger, and other vehicles, passengers, and pedestrians in the area. The occurrence of the transmission locking up has been documented by members of the road star riders forum http://forums.delphiforums.com/1602/messages), which is comprised of members and owners of road star motorcycles on a global basis. It is an on-going, repetitive incident and has happened as recently as april of 2003. This issue continues to be a matter of grievous anxiety and alarm to me as an owner of a road star motorcycle. Please respond immediately with what action is appropriate by the yamaha motor corporation, usa in order to ensure my safety and well being, while i am engaged in operating the aforementioned vehicle manufactured by your company. Thank you in advance for your consideration and action into this serious situation. My 2002roadstar silverado currently has a transmission noise in it and my dealer cannot figure out what it is.
Recall on yamaha road warrior.
Yamaha roadstar gas tank washer and transmission recalls. I purchased my motorcycle in june 2003. I later found out about a recall to the gas tank which should have been taken care of on my bike before sale. I have never received any notice to this date. My biggest complaint however is that apparently there was a recall on this bike for transmission back in august 2003. I got a letter in february 2004. This major work is to be done at a dealership. No warranty has been offered. No parts to repair are available till march/april. Yamaha have advised not to use until work done. To date i have not been able to ride for 3 months since i first heard about the recall in december and will not be able to ride till who knows when??
Yamaha announced a recall on my 2002 roadstar warrior's transmission and, it seems as though they are making little effort to distribute the kits to fix them.my dealer recently received one kit and that's it.i also found out that they have distributed numerous kits to canada where people can't even begin riding for over another month! my motorcycle is my primary vehicle and, the recall states i should not ride it until the recall is done.so, what am i supposed to do while yamaha takes months to get the kits out???? this is ridiculous!!!
Yamaha has not notified me about a dangerous transmission problem.i have been to my dealer 4 times in last month for parts, and they also made no mention of it.i would not know about the transmission if not for a friend at bike night.i since have parked the bike, but yamaha has no idea when the parts are coming, and willl only provide a 90 day warranty on the one part they are replacing, but not the entire engine and transmission which will be taken completly apart to fix the transmission.
Nhtsa recall 03v309000 concerning transmission failure. Consumer contacted the dealer, and was told that the parts were not available.

Yamaha safety recall transmission modification.no parts available for repair/replacement.
I received a recall notice from yamaha motor corp. Around the feb. 1st. Stating that there was a problem with the transmission in my road star warrior. The notice said that i should not ride the motorcycle and should contact my dealer to get the bike fixed. The dealer said that the parts to repair the bike were not available yet and did not know when they would be able to get the parts. Thlis has been about a month and one half so far and still no idea when the bike can be repaired. My complaint is that i do not believe that a consumer should be treated in this manner. I paid a lot of money for this product and haven't been able to use it and yamaha doesn't seem to care. I have called them and they seem very irritated that someone is calling and questioning them.
The parts to performrecall 03v309000 repairs has not been available to the dealership for 4 months, and the dealership does not know when the parts will be available.
A recall has been issued on all yamaha roadstar warriors, one of which i own.my dealer is unable to obtain repair kits to complete the work. The recall was issued january 04 and i am becoming concerned that this particular motorcycle may not be of use during the riding season of 04.it seems unfair to expect individuals who paid for these motorcycles to not be able to have repairs completed in a timely manner.
Regarding recall no. 03v309000 i am complaining about yamaha of america's non-compliance of fixing my vehicle with ina reasonable time frame.i own a vehicle which i can not drive due to the fact that i could be killed on it, but i can not have it repaired due to the fact the company that designed the vehicle doesn't have the parts to fix the problem.i am also complaining about having to pay for a vehicle that i can not use.
The parts to performrear recall 03v309000 repairs has not been availble to the dealership for 2 months.
I have recieved a recall notice from yamaha concerning a defective clip in the transmission which could break resulting in a rear wheel lock up.i would like to know why yamaha is enacting such a recall yet, according to my local dealer, is not producing the parts to fix such a problem.i was told during a phone call to the customer service center in cypress, ca that all customers would be handled on a case by case basis and at no time would these parts be available to owners until the recall is complete.so that means that yamaha is basically telling more than half a million customers f@$k you, we'll fix your bikes when we want to with no warranties on the labor required to completely tear down the motor to replace the defective 50 cent clip.
Recall 03v309000 repairs concerning transmission failure were not performed because the replacement parts were on back order for at least 2 months.the motorcycle was not to be driven, per the manufacturer.
Safety recall notice from yamaha, road star warrior motorcycle.i sent the following email several time requesting assistance in getting the parts to my dealer for the repairs.to date i have not received a response nor has my dealer received the required parts.gentlemen, please help a loyal yamaha customer by expediting the delivery of parts necessary to satisfy the safety recall on my 2002 yamaha road star warrior.my dealers name and address is as follows:sussex motorsports address: 446 highway 23 s, sussex, nj 07461phone: (973) 875-3640 i am writing you regarding the recall of all 2002 and 2003 yamaha roadstar warrior motorcycles. I am very unhappy with the way you are handling the recall of my 2002 warrior. While i understand that recalls are a safety necessity, and the work needs to be done, yamaha should have planned and addressed this situation much better than they have. I have been told that the parts necessary for the recall are not yet available, and that i should not operate my vehicle until it is repaired. Yet, the cost of my ownership, e.g., depreciation, insurance, loan payments, etc., continues on. I will have no warranty or assurance that my motorcycle will operate the same as before the repair work. I would feel much better about the situation you have forced me in if the parts were available, and there were some guarantee with the engine after it has been rebuilt. No extended warranty!how is that good business? i sincerely hope yamaha reconsiders their position on this recall and make good on what a common person would consider good business practices. Please feel free to contact me for clarification if required. I look forward to your response. Sincerely,[xxx][xxx][xxx][xxx][xxx][xxx]updated 07/26/2012information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
Nhtsa campaign id#:03v309000, contacted yamaha and they are not giving any information on when parts will be available.meanwhile they have instructed me not to operate the vehicle in question.this is not acceptable for them to down my vehicle with not information on when repairable parts will be available.lastly yamaha will not warranty the work performed by their service centers.therefore we have no recourse if the service center performs sub standard work and the vehicle fails shortly after the repair.in the meantime i have to cancel all pre-arranged plans that included use of my vehicle at my own cost.also the cost of ownership of said vehicle continues while it is not operable again without any date as to when it will be operable again.
Yamaha motor corporation does not have the required parts available to complete the recall repairs. I was told parts are not even being released by the corporation until marach 2004 and that the midwest states would not be a priority due to cold weather. I ride all year long, averaging 18,000 miles each year on my 2002 road star warrior and my kz1000p police motorcycle (my assigned duty vehicle) and i can't understand why yamaha corporation is being allowed to treat it's customers so badly. I called yamaha customer service and was told there would be no warranty coverage on the labor done to fix the transmission recall. They said the dealer would have to stand behind the labor. My dealer can't even get the parts from yamaha to fix the transmission. So now i have a motorcycle i have to make a monthly payment on, but can not ride because it could potentially kill me. I do not understand why yamaha can be allowed to conduct business in this manner.
Recall of my 2002 yamaha roadstar warrior for a transmission problem. I, and other owners i know, are becoming increasingly frustrated with yamahas delay in getting the new parts to the dealers so the repairs can be completed. It also seems unfair that the are only offering a 90 day warranty on parts, not labor, when the repair requires the complete disassembly and rebuilding of the engine. I have less than 3,000 miles on my motorcycle and the engine is having to be rebuilt due to a manufacturing defect. It seems a new original warranty (1 year/unlimited miles) would be more in order. I can't believe consumers who had new automobiles, and had to return them to the dealer to have the engine removed and rebuilt , would be satisfied with the treatment roadstar owners are receiving from yamaha. I'm still waiting for parts to arrive at my local dealer.
I own a 2002 yamaha roadstar warrior which is involved in a recall which i have not recieved a letteror phone call from yamaha or my local dealer i only found out after i called. The they told me they had no idea when yamaha was sending the parts so they put me on a waiting list. The lack of comunication is unacceptable when my safty is involved. Now they say when they fix the bike the labor is not covered under the warranty and the parts are for90 days. Then i have to break the bike in for 600 miles again and have the first service done again at my cost (approx $300).i bought this bike last summer and only have 1100 miles on it. Now the remaining portion of my warranty is running out while my bike sits in my garage because it is unsafe to drive. Seeing how they are rebuilding the motor i think the normal 1 year warranty sould be givin with the repair. Also i should not have to pay for the first service after they fixedit i paid that once already then lastthe communication is horrible if didn't have friend with the same bike my family may have found out about the recall after my rear tire locked up on the highway doing 75 mph causing me to lose control cross the median and get hit my a semi- truck head on and die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yamaha road star warrior recall of transmission.
I have a 2002 yamaha road star warrior.i bought the motorcycle new from the dealer as a 2002 leftover in may of 2003.a few weeks after i bought the motorcycle, i was riding down the road and the bike started to slow down on its own.being a few miles from a friend's house, i decided it would be safer to stop there, so i continued on to his house.when i pulled in the driveway, i noticed my rear brake rotor was glowing red and the whole caliper was smoking and hot.the brake line melted and leaked fluid on the hot caliper and then caught fire.i was able to extinguish the fire with a water hose and eventually trailered the motorcycle to the dealer who eventually fixed it after i had to spend my own money buy an aftermarket steel braided brake line because they could not get a stock part from the manufacturer for several weeks.the rest of the work was done under the manufacturer's warranty.i know of several other instances with the road star warrior where the rear brake failed in a similar manner.
The mechanic informed the consumer, the rotors were worn.
Consumer concerned with the lack of responsibility yamaha exhibited pertaining to the unavailibility of parts to perform the recall.*ph *sc

Speedometer does not function correctly. The symptom is random and seems to happen on hot days or when the motorcycle is in direct sunlight.
