Since taking delivery in april 2004, periodically instrument panel fails for short periods. All gauges go to zero and all warning lights come on and remain in this state for 5 - 45 seconds. My wife panicked the last time and almost crashed into a guard rail. Workhorse reprogrammed computer module twice (there was a recall involving brake warning light). They thought this would fix my problem, but it did not. They have reported to me for the last two years that they are working on a fix. Date is last instance, but it happens on every trip at least once. At a recent gathering of owners about 20 people acknowledged that they are having the problem.

I have a holiday rambler vacationer motor home with a workhorse chassis there is a recall nhtsa # 06v22700 for an instrument cluster panel, which was replaced on my vehicle, that continues to blank out intermintantly causing the panel to go dark at night, buzzing alarm, and all the guages to reset.i have called workhorse 3/2/07 to report that the condition continues, but they stated that they are still working on a fix.it is three years since the condition started how long are we to wait?is it possible that the replacement panel was also bad?can the nhtsa board help me with this matter?thank you for your consideration.

The above vehicle was purchased on 10/29/2010, while conducting the first 30 day riving test, it was noticed that the instrument cluster was not functioning properly, the display light will not come on and therefore had to drive in the evening without this knowledge. During the dailight, when i placed the vehicle in cruise control the instrument cluster failed to tell me so. There are many other features to this instument that i do not know if they work or not. Upon bringing the vehicle back to the purchasing dealer, i was told that the instrument panel had been previously recalled by the manufacturer and that the work had already been completed on april 2010 and therefore if i wanted it fixed, i would have to pay approximately $600.00 to get it fixed. This vehicle was sold to me while being unsafe to drive, how can they tell me that i would have to pay for a safety repair of this magnitude when it did not happen while i owned the vehicle. The workhorse recall number was bulletin no. 50402-c. It is my contention that the dealership should pay for this very important part of the safety of this vehicle.

Workhorse denied the consumers claim stating the repairs were necessary, because it was the consumers fault that the brakes overheated. The rotors were severely damaged. The consumer stated he had no confidence that the problem had been fixed even though the repairs were made, the abs light would still illuminate.the consumer stated he had spoken to a workhorse advisor twice prior to the brake failure. The advisor told the consumer it did not make sense that when stepping on the brake, the steering wheel would vibrate and that it was not a brake problem. A visual inspection revealed that the brake pads seemed ok,but the front rotors and one of the rear rotors were totally broken. The serpentine belt was replaced because it was making a lot of noise, the spark plugs burned 4 times, the pixels went out on the odometer, the instrument cluster shut down completely, the transmission locked up once in third gear, the seat belt light illuminated for no reason and then would go out and a rear seal on the axle leaked.

Both of my catalytic converters failed 2/16/11 on my 2004 w22 workhorse chassis with only 30,000 miles. Replacement cost $1,200.00. There was a recall replacing defective catalytic converters on the 2003 workhorse chassis. Is this the continuation of the same problem of defective catalytic converters? i've kept my 8.1l tuned and serviced as per manufacture instructions.

Leaking gas tank as per nhtsa recall 10v348000.

Front engine gasoline powered motorhome was in service shop for leaking rear axle hub. After that was fixed, shop owner was moving unit when significant fuel was observed leaking from engine area (front of unit) onto the ground.fuel also soaked the carpet near the driver and driver's foot became wet with gasoline.fuel leaked due to retaining clip failure on fuel pressure regulator located on top of engine on driver's side.as a result, high pressure fuel from fuel injection system was allowed to flow freely over the engine and sprayed the underside of the motorhome with some fuel entering the motorhome where the engine cover meets the floor of the motorhome.fuel regulator and retaining clip replaced.additional details can be viewed here:http://irv2.infopop.cc/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/8626012545/m/9871080422/p/1.

I was driving along interstate 4 and stopped at a rest area after noticing diminished braking on my motorhome.i immediately detected the smell of overheated brakes.i then proceeded cautiously and pumped the brakes, noting that the abs system failure light was luminated on the dash.the problem with the brakes seemed to diminish, but noted that the efficiency of the brake system was significantly less than prior to the overheating.i have learned of the long history of the exact problem with the braking system on the workhorse custom chassis, and that a recall for this exact problem was ,ade, but stopped short of covering all of the affected vehicles, and that you are investigating this matter under odi number ea07016.the chassis was built in october, 2003.

I own and operate a motor home sales facility.this year i have purchased four 04-05 model units of different makes on the workhorse chassis. On every unit i have had a problem with the abs system. On a trip home with one of the units i had the brake pedal go almost all the way to the floor but was able to stop. For the next few miles i drove very slow and kept checking my brakes. All at once the full pedal came back and never gave any other problem other than the abs light came on and required a new sensor. Every unit has had at least one bad sensor. Now i have an 04 in the shop with a warning light but no codes in the computer and an 06 with an abs light the comes and goes with no reason. Someone needs to check this out. Too may units with similar problems.

On sep. 12 of 2007, we left on a trip from our home to las vegas, nv. On the first leg of our trip our we noticed we were getting very poor gas mileage and it seemed like our brakes were dragging.we pulled over at the welcome center in louisiana on i-59.we noticed the rear brakes smelled hot.when we went back into the motorhome and started it back up the "abs" warning light was on.we then called a workhorse service center, ross downing chevrolet.the mechanic told us to wait for an hour and drive it to hammond to the dealership and he would work on it.the mechanic replaced the rear rotors, calipers, pads and wheel sensors, then reset the "abs" warning light.all was good until we went over the hoover dam and the abs light came back on and we pulled over and let the brakes cool down again and then drove to our campground at nellis air force base in las vegas.then once we were there we called and made an appointment with findlay rv.they replaced the wheel sensor on the front left wheel.and reset the codes.the date of the front wheel incident was approx. Sep 21 2007.now for the most recent incident. August 7, 2008, we were traveling to biloxi, ms from our home and i noticed our gas mileage decreasing again.we pulled over and smelled that the left front wheel area was hot.we let the brakes cool again and from our previous experience and because we are so close to home we decided to just go ahead and stay in biloxi because i had an appointment at the va center in biloxi the next day.we are going to take the motorhome to a service center to have the "abs" warning light checked out and repaired.i believe that 3 times in a year is a bit excessive to have problems with the "abs" system and needs to be investigated especially since our motorhome is only 4 years old.also, my parents own a 2003 workhorse w22 chassis also and have had problems with their "abs" warning light also.

We currently own a 2004 allegro bay 34xb motor home on workhorse w22 chassis . At the time of the occurrence it had approximately 14250 miles on the chassis. After driving from myrtle beach about 35 miles on july 30, 2008 we stopped to refuel and smelled burning brake pads in the rear of the vehicle. When we started back out the abs warning light came on and stayed illuminated. Since it was late in the day we decide to return home and try to get the vehicle checked the following morning. On the way home we experienced a reduction in brake performance when stopping.on july 31, 2008 we brought the vehicle to larry's auto clinic an authorized workhorse service center in myrtle beach. According to the service center the caliper can hang up and cause the brake pads to drag on the rotor surface. Overheating occurs, causing damage to the brake components and affecting braking performance. The problem also causes the brake system's antilock features to be lost when the heat damages the antilock wheel sensor. They determined that the rear braking system had been damaged and needed to be replaced as well as the abs sensor.

The contact owns a 2004 work horse w22 chassis model tipping allegro. During brake application at 35 mph the pedal went completely to the floor. He engaged the parking brake to stop the vehicle.a mechanic could not identify the cause of the failure.the manufacturer stated a letter was sent to the owners advising that the calipers could cause the breaks to over heat and fail. However he never received the letter. He took the rv to the dealer. The dealer stated they will need to duplicate the problem to be able make any necessary repairs. He added that if any parts were replaced it would be replaced with the same material and it will not be a permanent remedy. The current and the failure mileages were 36,000.

2004 workhorse w22 motorhome chassis. Right rear brake shoes not releasing from rotor causing brakes to over heat. Damage unknown. Rv scheduled for inspection may 6, 2008. 6500 miles. Driven only occasionally.

The contact owns a 2004 national sea breeze lx rv. The vehicle was equipped with a 2004 workhorse chassis w22. The contact was driving approximately 45-55 mph on a mountain when he smelled a strong burning odor near the brakes. The vehicle was driven onto the emergency lane and inspected. The contact observed that the front passenger side wheel bearing oil cap dissolved which caused the oil leak. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who confirmed that the failure was contributed to the brakes over heating. The front passenger side spindle bearings and front wheel oil sight glass were replaced. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer twice to have the brake calipers replaced on the front driver side. Nhtsa recall campaign id number 09v110000 (service brakes, hydraulic) was related to the failure; however, the part was unavailable. The repair part has been unavailable for seven months. The dealer recently advised the contact that the part would be available in october of 2010. The failure mileage was 8,339.

On 9 mar 2006 i was traveling on la highway 128 enroute to winnsboro, lain my 24' 2004 winnebago motorhome built on a workhorse chassis.time of day was around 7:30 am, road was dry and flat.temperature was probably in high 60's (deg f) to low 70's.i had engaged cruise control at 50 mph and overdrive was engaged.without warning the steering column began to violently shake, the allison 1000 transmission slipped out of od into 3d gear and then immediately shifted into 2d gear.cruise control remained engaged.engine speed remained at about 1500-1800 rpm but road speed dropped to nearly 0 mph.after shutting the engine down i smelled an odor of hot metal.i inspected the coach inside and outside but did not find any visible smoke or flame.i returned to the coach, restarted the engine, and proceeded without further difficulty.during the above described action the coach did not pull either right or left, and there were no alarms, either visual or aurally from the display lanel.this leads me to believe that the front left and right disk brakes closed on the rotors equally, causing the coach to come to a straight-line stop.i have read of previous models (2002 and perhaps 2003) of this same chassis equipped with bosch calipers having brake problems resulting in fires and other serious damage to the vehicle.i now believe that this problem is surfacing once again, this time in the 2004 workhorse chassis.a call to the manufacturer resulted in no offer of a possible cause, or other advice.
