The vehicle was stationary. Starting the engine when cold produced a ticking noise. Went to the chevrolet dealer to ask about what the problem could be. He mentioned several things, one of which is exhaust manifold leaking. Sure enough, after checking the exhaust manifold a broken bolt was found allowing exhaust gas to leak out bypassing the emission catalytic convertor and exhaust system which would cause a fire hazard, as well as health and pollution concerns. I believe the exhaust manifold bolts are defective as there are many cases of this happening on manygm v-8 engines
