Despite volvo's knowledge of problems with the xc90 transmission, when it failed completely, i took it to an aamco dealer because there was no local volvo dealer.the tach was all the way to the right and the wheels would do nothing.it was very dangerous.despite have the extended 100k warranty, and this prior knowledge, volvo corporate refused to assist in any way with the $6k cost of the repairs because i didn't have it repaired at a volvo dealer.i was told by aamco that it was dangerous to be driving.i would never own another volvo of any type.

In a nutshell: at approximately 8:35 wednesday morning (october 28th), my volvo xc90 spontaneously caught fire in the pouring rain.i was in the car at the time.thankfully nobody was hurt. Toronto fire services and toronto police services both attended the scene.the most frightening part of this incident is the fact that it was completely spontaneous and very close to the gas tank!obviously it was the result of an electrical malfunction.thankfully another driver alerted me to the fact that my car was on fire - as it was not apparent to me - and i was able to leave the vehicle safely.i shudder to think of the potentially fatal gas explosion which would have followed, had we not been able to extinguish the fire as quickly as we did.please see link with videos and photos of the incident and resulting damage:https://goo.gl/photos/jwbdabcrjdn7vxj77

The headlights started to flicker a few months ago. At first i thought i was imagining it until they started to briefly blink, i still was not sure it was happening.tonight, as i was driving home, the lights abruptly turned off. I stopped the car as i was driving with no headlights and noticed a warning light that said low beam failure. I turned the car off and back on and the headlights started to work again.on the 30 minute drive home, the headlights would blink off and on; sometimes one would work, sometimes neither would work. Very unsafe!!!i'm very upset to read that this is a known complaint and volvo has not addressed the problem.when the headlights turned off in the dark, i had both of my children in the car with me.it's horrible they would allow this known problem to go unresolved. That's playing with people's lives.

After 30 minutes of highway driving exited onto secondary road to add oil for low oil light indicator. Engine began smoking in two minutes andlifting hood caused engine to burst into flames. Chemical fire retardant sprayed within three minutes. Result was incinerated alternator and all codes alarmed. Car turns over. Fuses good.

The driver side low beam headlight keeps melting the plastic connector. I have replaced the connector and had all the wiring and other components checked on 3 different occasions. The dealer says nothing can be done to fix this issue. It is ridiculous that a luxury brand like volvo is very aware of this issue and does nothing to alleviate the problem.

When restarting my car in an elementary school pick-up line, the key would not turn.the brake pedal felt "stuck" and the steering wheel was locked.i had to have it towed and because it could not be put into neutral, it had to be dragged onto the tow truck bed.the lock cylinder has failed.it is estimated that we will be without the car for 7 days.

The contact owns a 2007 volvo xc90. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning light illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who diagnosed that the ignition coil needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

The issue first started on ma 3rd, 2019. I was driving down the highway on my way to the beach. The road was a little bumpy and then all of the sudden my car lost all power and shut itself off. It through 3 codes, 1. Immobilizer, 2. Engine control module and 3. Climate control module. I was able to have it towed home. My husband decided to research what could cause these issues. He located a youtube video that was posted 2 years ago regarding the ecm & ccm fuses. The man recording the video experienced the same problems, and found that the fuse for the two items have blown. My husband thought maybe that might be the issue. He located the fuses and found that both of them were in fact blown. He replaced them both with brand new fuzes and the car started right now.. The next day, i drove to work with no issues and to and from lunch. On my way home, about 3 miles from work, i went down a side street as there was an accident and traffic was backed up. The side street had speed bumps. The went over the first one with no issue, and the next one is about 100 - 200 feet after, as soon as my back tires were over the 2nd bump, the car shut it self off again and i was stuck (may 6th 2019). My husband shown my where the fuzes was and left extras in the storage area on the safe side. Again, both were blown. Once they were replaced for a 2nd time, car started. Now fast forward 5 months, the road from my dads house is being repaved, as you can image very bumpy. I made it over all the bumps just fine, but as soon as i crossed over a major road, the car shut itself off again... This time i did not have extra fuzes, called a tow (october 11 2019). We were able to replace the fuzes again. Now the next day everything was fine again, but the same thing happened two more times(october 12, 2019). And now the car sits in my driveway, as i feel very unsafe to drive it.

The contact owns a 2007 volvo xc90. When the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to respond without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was operating as designed. On another occasion, when the ignition key was turned to the on position, the vehicle failed to start intermittently. The vehicle was started after several attempts. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

While driving through the neighborhood, suddenly the following warnings appeared:the dash completely shut off, all instruments zeroed out, the auto a/c shut off, my windows and locks stopped working the radio turned off.srs failure, power failure - urgent, brake failure . . . Use caution stopping, warnings appeared in my messages menu screen.the power was flickering on and off, on and off, until it just shut off completely.thankfully i was so close to my mechanic, that i just rolled down the hill into their driveway.this car is not safe.i had my little girl in the car with me.i would hate to think what would have happened if we had been on the freeway unable to stop.

On or about february 06, 2019, our 2007 volvo xc-90 experienced a steering lock failure.that is the lock could not advance to the start position and consequently locked the key in the ignition switch.the lock would not advance.consequently performed the following:a) consulted volvo owner's manual.the manual was silent on this.since the vehicle was parked nose first in our garage, again consulted the volvo owner's manual to find out how to manually get the volvo out of park.volvo's manual was silent on this.b)contacted north town volvo dealer for advice.response was to get the vehicle in by towing.no advice as to how to disengage the volvo's park feature.c)contacted volvo's on line chat service and received the same response.no help!get the car towed in!d)contacted in collision and auto repair.they suggested a 2006 you tube video showing how to disengage the park function.this worked and the volvo 2007 xc-90was towed to in collision and auto repair. It took three weeks to repair the lock for the parts had to come from germany.pictures of the failed lock assembly are enclosed.after the lock repair, in collision performed the following:a)replaced radiator:the radiator had a small leak since the get-go.brought the volvo in several times to north town volvo and they could not find it.during a visit to them the coolant was topped off at no charge and i apparently observed, but it was denied by the service advisor, the service advisor dropping something into the coolant expansion tank.compared to the new coolant after radiator replacement, it is much clearer without the darken flakey consistency of the previous coolant of which was like that since the get-go.b)replaced hvac blower motor due to failure.c)cleaned up driver side door security contacts so that the power door locks lock when the alarm is toggled.

July 4, 2010in reply to: vin# [xxx] volvo cars of north americacustomer care center1volvo driverockledge, nj07647-0914dear volvo cars of north america, subject: volvo xc90 warranty/safety issuei have returned my volvo xc90 on several occasions for electrical system related problems to include three separate incidents of the position indicator light burning out, multiple bulb failures and tire pressure system warnings. My volvo repair shop told me that these were unrelated normal repairs and that i should not be concernedafter the latest incident of the tire system malfunction i took my vehicle to a local repair shop who troubleshoot my vehicle, put the vehicle on a lift and showed me a wiring harness that was wet from being located directly underneath the vehicles ac i believe this is a manufacturers defect. The wiring harness has already developed rust which indicates consistent water immersion and i was told this should be a cause for concern as this situation could lead to electrical system failure, shorts, shocks or vehicle fire.i am requesting that this issue be fixed and some type of warranty extension be provided to protect from any future repairs that may be caused by this defect. On october 31st of this year our 2007 volvo xc90 caught fire near the rear hatch. My wife, who normally drives this vehicle, was unable to start the car on her first attempt. It appeared that the battery was dead. After a couple of more attempts the car did start but, a check engine signal appeared. At this point she decided not to drive the car and left it at home. I came home at lunch and after a couple of attempts the car did start. I left the car running for a few minutes after which time smoke starting filling up the passenger compartment. The source of the fire seemed to be coming from the rear of the car. I looked under and around the car but, there was no obvious source of a fire. I opened the rear hatch and saw fire coming from under the rear jump seats. I immediately put out the fire with a fire extinguisher and called for a tow truck. The car was taken to a volvo dealership in bristol, tn. The next day i went to the dealer in bristol and examined the car with the service manager. It was apparent that the fire had started around the battery compartment in the rear of the car under the back seats. At this point i have not had any response from volvo as to the cause of their plan for repairing the vehicle. Their is severe burn damage to the rear seats, flooring material and obvious smoke damage to the interior.

On multiple occasions the abs warning light will come on and state needs service.the air conditioner works intermittantly and the tcs (traction control system) sometimes fails to come on.like everything else, only some of the time. Purchased vehicle with 180.000 miles

And now the car sits in my driveway, as i feel very unsafe to drive it.

Vehicle was parked, went to start, and the ignition switch will not operate. Ignition switch is locked up, leaving unable to turn key, past accessory, to start engine. Vehicle is unable to be changed out of park, into neutral or other gear, to move vehicle.steering wheel is locked in position.

We started the car there was a clicking sound from the engine, we drove for about 3-4 minutes. I noticed the ac wasn't working well and my husband who was driving looked down at the temperature gauge and it was in the red.since we were at a red light and we couldn't pull over he turned the car off to let it cool down. Once the stop light turned green other cars had to go around us until we let it cool down enough to restart and pull over.the engine was really hot. He checked the coolant which was full and the oil which was also fine.we then had our vehicle towed to the dealer.the dealer said it was the cooling fan circuit and they removed and replaced the cooling fan assembly.

The contact owns a 2007 volvo xc90. While the vehicle was stationary, the electronic control module and timing control module failed. The engine control module sent a signal to the timing control module, which caused an engine seizure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the timing control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 07v563000 (visibility). The dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 197,000.

Fuses good.

Air condition went out under 200 miles, said they fixed it. 1,000 miles rotors had to be replaced. 3,000 milescar over heated, they could not trace a problem, 1 week latter car caught on fire. Towed to volvo dealer ship. They said car did not catch on fire. That air conditioning fan needed to be replaced. Asked for a computer print out , they refused to give it out, they said they erased it.

While driving on interstate 40 at 80 mph my car began shaking violently and shut off.it was trailored to the nearest volvo dealership where it took 3 weeks to repair , 1 week to identify the problem). They found that the valve spring" onthe2007 volvo xc90's engine had broken, causing the car to operate on only 4 of its 6 cylinders.this car barely had 2500 miles on it at the time of the failure.the cylinder head of my brand new engine had to be replaced, certainly compromising the resale value of my car, and after 3 weeks in the shop, and $6000 worth of repairs including a rebuilt engine, volvo will not recompensate me (replacement engine, extended warranty, etc.).i am extremely upset about this.i purchased a volvo because it is supposed to be the most dependable and safe car on the road.instead i have been badly mistaken.

Volvo xc90 uses "drum in hat" parking brake design for rear wheels of vehicle.whether engaged or not, the friction (lining) material for the parking brake can separate catastrophically from the shoe and lodge against the inside of the drum, causing one or both of the rear wheels to lock up, driveline damage, loss of control of the vehicle and/or braking component damage.upon inquiry to dealer (secor volvo of new london, connecticut), this problem is known to dealer and/or volvo.

The transmission on the 2007 volvo xc 90 t6 are failing early at an alarming rate.mine has failed at 70k miles, leaving me stranded.this is noted to be a common occurrence and is well described in discussion forums, with many transmissions failing before 30k miles.

The yellow abs brake light came on.the red parking brake light came on.the car had a loud long beep noise activated.finally, the "regan bakes disabled"reading was displayed!!!also heard the brake pads (4 wheel disk brakes) sounded like they were scratching on the rotors.all information on the internet/nhtsa vehicle recall website says this is a known safety issue with ford motor company.but, ford is not willing to recall the vehicles because it requires a $5,300 hcu replacement part. My son needs to drive vehicle for his job (uber/lyft).help!!?safety issue! ford motor company or the nhtsa can contact me at any time to help me with further instructions on how to proceed.

Volvo 2007xc90 broken ball joint causing accident-.authormessagejanice g mazurek ddsjan 24,2008location: ventura california volvo 2007xc90 broken ball joint causing accident-________________________________________without any warning while driving my xc90 with 14,000 miles the right front ball joint fractured causing me to loose steering control and veer off the road. Luckily i was traveling 30 miles an hour with no cars close behind and i was able to move the car safely off the road. The car was towed to the local volvo dealer. The following day i was told repairs would be in the $10,000 range. Needless to say i was shocked, and i called my insurance company to report the incident. Even though i reported that i did not hit anything in the road they concluded that with this much damage, all on the undercarriage, that i must have. Not wanting to be held responsible for this i was told by the dealer to call the 800 volvo american number to report the malfunction claim. They sent an "inspector" who concluded that i hit and object with my right front tire rim causing the tire to turn in . The strong ball joint is fractured,it would take some forceful impact for this to happen. There is not a scratch on the body of the car,and the rim isscrapped in one area as a result of driving on the rim after the ball joint failure caused the tire to turn in..so i am faced with costly repairs,a car i will never be able to trust again, and an accident on my unblemished driving record of 35 years .the claim of a faulty ball joint was reported to volvo-they 'concluded','our observations indicated the damage was the result of some type of impact, forcing the wheel inward."this needs to be investigated for the safety of all drivers.janice mazurek dds ventura,ca[/i]_________________2007xc90 owner with defective ball joint causing accident with major damage volvo refuses to be responsible.

Rear left suspension part known as "stay bar" broke causing rear left tire to wobble uncontrollably.failure occurred at low speed while coming to a stop so damage was limited and injuries avoided.

It's a known fact the the transmission for my model year 2007 have a bad valve body inside them that can go out at any time. Volvo knows about this and changed out the transmission for there 2008 model and did nothing about the poir years. The cost for a new transmission is well $5000. I just bought my in to the dealership to have it checked. The transmission is a factory sealed unit and can not be checked. Unless you take apart the whole lower part of the car in otto take out the transmission.

Fuses good.

Vehicle (fwd suv) began producing noise while driving at any rate of speed; noise coming from rear of vehicle.after jacking up the rear of the vehicle, i learned the driver's side rear wheel had approximately 1/2 inch movement and passenger's side rear wheel produced a great deal of noise when the tire was manually rotated (as if the hub assembly needed grease).driver's side hub assembly was replaced by mechanic.was told the passenger's side hub assembly will need to be replaced in the near future.i understand the suv has 113,000 miles but i find it odd and dangerous that both rear wheel bearings/hub assembly units began failing at the same time.no physical injury or crash occurred; fire and collision were possible due to high friction and/or part failure.

Vehicle had growling noise that was synchronous with vehicle speed.the noise got progressively worse as the speed increased.on november 25, 2011, local volvo dealer diagnosed noise as right and left wheel bearing failures since noise was emanating from the left and right side wheel hubs.note vehicle is about 4.5 years old, never in an accident with only 21771 miles on the od.
