So disappointed.i was ready to buy a new xc60. Not a chance.

I bought a 2006 volvo xc90 ocean race (limited edition) suv on 3/21/06.the morning of 3/25/06, my car would not start.volvo roadside assistance jump started the vehicle, which i then drove back to the dealership. The battery tested fine, and the vehicle was returned to me.on 4/27/06, again the car would not start.vehicle was returned to me on 4/29, no-charge invoice says "replace engine management and starter relays. Rechecked numerous times, o.k."car again failed to start 5/3/06.it is now5/9 and 'special' volvo field tech seem clueless as to the problem.they claim to have checked "everything thoroughly", and now say they want to put 20 -40 miles on my new vehicle, attempting to "recreate the dead battery scenario".sounds mighty desperate and illogical, considering the car intermittently and unpredictably failed to start only after 10-24 hours of being parked. I feel that all that $ i spent has provided me with little more than various loaner cars, trips to and from the dealership, major inconveniences, headaches, and a growing uneasiness with volvo's reliability and service techs.
Intermittent lighting failure in the volvo xc90 2006 model. The headlamps just fail. Volvos are supposed to be safe. My family and i could have been seriously injured or worse. I have spent thousands of dollars to fix the issue and i still have the problem. I can not drive at dusk or at night because of this.
Driving in heavy rain, cruise control fails, car gets stuck in 5th gear, lighting failure, car says in drive when in park, anti-skid service light comes on, check engine light comes on.had to be towed back to the dealer when they test drove it.very dangerous situation, two kids in the car and bought the car for its safety rating.will cost $2500 to repair.
I drove home from work and messages started to appear warning me of the engine not working properly, low beams not working. Drove it home. Turned it off & wipers would not stop.we unhooked the battery cable using the manual.took it to have battery tested, bad cell. Replaced battery & wipers quit working, air bag light warning came on. Took to mechanic to have wiper motor tested, it was fine. Took to volvo, they wanted to replace wiper motor, told them that was not the only problem. Took to different volvo and they diagnosed, after three hours, the cem was corroded due to a crack in the box that houses it. Wanted $3500 for the repair. I left without it and started to research it. Found out volvo acknowledged a fault in the seal in a traffic safety report. Contacted volvo about the repair, started discussions about a good will repair, three weeks later i received a call stating they would not cover any part of it.the volvo looses power and could be unsafe at any time. There are many discussions of this on different volvo. I don't understand how volvo says it is a fault of the part and then refuses to replace it.i am driving it at this time, while i figure out a more economical route.
2006 volvo xc90 headlamp failure. Wa.state volvo rep. Denies intermittent headlamp failure exists. This is a huge safety issue. The volvo headlights just fail when the vehicle is being driven! i and many others approx.93,487 owner's of this vehicle have spent thousands of dollars having volvo service dealer's unable to correct the serious problem. This should be a priority safety recall and volvo should immediately send out a service bulletin to all dealerships. Apparently volvo does know this problem exists and has purposely chosen to not correct the problem or to acknowledge the serious safety issue. Volvo owner's are at risk of serious injury or death. While driving the volvo the headlamps flicker and fail . The driver usually a mother with children in the car is suddenly plunged into darkness at any given speed and at night. Please help all of us mothers who believe we made the best decision to provide" safety first" for our family's . This needs to be a priority safety recall . Having the headlights fail while driving is putting innocent lives in grave danger.

The contact owns a 2006 volvo xc90. While driving various speeds, the vehicle would pull to the right. The vehicle was taken to crippen volvo (8300 w. Saginaw hwy, lansing, mi), but the failure could not be duplicated. Approximately one month later, while driving 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly pulled hard to the right and the driver nearly lost control of the steering. After stopping the vehicle, it was discovered that the front passenger side tie rod ball joint failed and the wheels were not properly positioned. The vehicle was towed to an unknown dealer and the tie rod was damaged. The contact indicated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 06v155000 (steering) although the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. Also, on several occasions, the vehicle could not be immediately started. While driving various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly shut off and caused the power steering and power brakes to become inoperable. The cause of the failures was not determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 130,000.
This is then second time the ignition switch on my 2006 volvo xc 90 has failed.the original was replaced with a new switch and now that replacement switch has also failed.this should not be a part that fails twice in 7 years.
Anti-skid error keeps coming up on my 2006 8 cyl volvo xc90.dealer unsure how to diagnose.i am concerned my anti lock braking and 4 wheel drive will not work.is this a known defect in volvo xc90's of that year?
Without any warning, the motor suddenly dropped from 60-65 mph to 35-40 and would not accelerate beyond this-i got a warning message after this happened "reduced engine performance".research on this later told me that this was "limp mode."i was on an expressway and other vehicles around me, including many large semi trucks, were driving at high speeds.fortunately, i had just come out of a toll plaza and was in the right lane so i was able to get out of the way quickly enough to avoid a collision. I had to have the car towed since it was not safe to continue to drive at such a slow speed and i was far from a suitable exit.my repair shop identified a problem with the throttle body and the pcv (valve)i see on research ofearlier models of this car that there had been an "warranty extension"for this very problem. My car apparently was not included on this extension, but i find it suspect that i had the same problem.there may not be that many reports of problems like this with my particular model year because a large number of the 2006 xc90s had early transmission failures and are no longer being used.
Balance shaft failure requiring new engine.

My volvo xc90 (2006) abruptly stalls and dies on freeway when using cruise control (typically at 70-75 mph). Have had two repeated incidents, so far lucky have not been hit.dealership found no problem., car died again.first incident was at about 59,000 miles, second was next time i used cruise on freeway.i always use premium fuel, regular service.
My 2006 xc90 has been stalling while driving on the freeway.it is very alarming and dangerous.the fuel pump and multiple electronic components have been replaced three times.

I own a 2006 volvo xc90 and i am concerned that the rear wheel bearing may be a manufacturers defect.i recently took my vehicle into a volvo dealer (july 2008 while still covered under warranty) as i felt that it wasn't running properly and it was making weird noises they could not find the problem (i made the dealership provide me with a car fax report as i bought the vehicle as a demo). Just last week,4,000 miles after the warranty expired the noises got worse and i discovered both rear wheel bearings were bad along with both rear tie rods.i contacted corp. Volvo and they agreed to cover a little over 50% of the entire repairs.i am concerned because while i was researching over the internet i discovered that there are several people with the same car that have experienced the same problem.i even received confirmation from the dealership that my specific vehicle is known for this problem.i found on your website that the tie rod assembly wasa recall for my vehicle (06v-155).if volvo replaced this part as recall on my vehicle why would they go bad again in such a short time frame?would a defective tie rod cause wear and tear on the wheel bearings?i am concerned this is going to happen to other consumers or even worse this defect may cause an accident?i did not feel that i should be held responsible for any of the repairs and i hope that other consumers in my position would not have to go through this as it does appear to be a known and common problem.please help research this problem.

Have researched this car after i bought it used from a small dealership and seems like a large problem with all types of volvo's. I had my car for a couple days, shop noticed there was an oil leak. Turned out to be the rear main seal. Dealership would not fix it even though it was within warranty. Saved up for 2 months straight to pay $1100 cash out of pocket to get it fixed by my personal mechanic. Right before i took it in to get the work done, the transmission was shifting hard while driving in city. Highway it was fine. Had the seal replaced, transmission flushed before putting back together thinking it would solve problem. Nope! so i saved up once again to go to the actual volvo dealership and pay $200 out of pocket for a reflash ed and software update on the transmission. Didn't work! looked up other possible problems that could be causing transmission to shift weird...numerous complaints onlineabout other petes volvo's doing the same thing! so why hasn't volvo done a recall on this transmission? it's a matter of time before i myself or someone else is driving and the thing slams into park or any other gear and cause an accident. I'm scared to drive my own car and i'm to the point where i can't dump anymore money into it and have to trade it in for a different car.please help and make volvo recall the transmissions before myself or my husband and 2 kids die because of their negligence!!
Transmission fail.
I entered the car and attempted to put on the driver's seat belt.it would not release from its housing (inside the panel above my left shoulder).it made a strong clicking noise, as if it had locked up.i made numerous other attempts to put on my seat belt, with the engine turned on, turned off, car in park, car in drive, car moving.no change. I feel this is a serious safety issue.when i called volvo, they told me that seatbelts were only covered under a 5 year warranty.i would expect seatbelts to have mandatory lifetime warranties, required by law.i am surprised to find that this is not the case.
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle manufacturer installed the wrong size tires on the vehicle causing the tires to wear prematurely.the service dealer ordered a new set of tires in a smaller size.the wheel ball bearings also had to be replaced after a knocking sound was detected.the service dealer determined this was due to not enough grease in the wheels.the contact also expressed concern over the seat belt warning indicator, which will only activate and illuminate as the vehicle starts and will not stay on for the ride duration if the seat belt is not worn.
While going approximately 35 mph and in a slight turn (very mild curve), traffic in front of me slowed.i moved my foot to the brake and the brake pedal was "hard" and the brakes did not work.i let off the brake and put my foot back on the pedal again, very firmly.the abs immediately kicked in.had traffic not started to speed up, i would have rear-ended the car in front of me. Not fun, volvo.when you press the brakes, you expect them to actually work.no error messages were on for the brake system or any other error messages at all.the brakes just didn't work.

I have had multiple issues with the suspension of this car in the past two years.-up until recently, these were the only problems i had with the car. First the strut engine mount brace and torque rods needed replacing, then at 155,000 i needed to have the front ball joint, control arms and bushings replaced.at 158,000 i had to replace the right rear knuckle and wheel bearings.now at 189,000 i have a problem with my outer tie rods.i had just thought these were expected wear and tear for a high mileage vehicle, but i saw that there had been recalls for failures of these partsin some versions of my car.ichecked with volvo and they claimed that my vin was not included in these recalls.but i do find it suspicious that i now am having the same issues thatso many "other versions" of my model and year vehicle had.should my car have been included in the recalls?how do they determine which ones have a problem and which ones do not?thanks

The contact owns a 2006 volvo xc90. The contact stated that the vehicle became stuck in the snow and the rear wheels would not turn and the vehicle was supposed to be all wheel drive. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the angle gear was not working because the gears were spinning and worn out. The dealer stated the failure was caused because the gears could wear similair to the way brake pads could wear. The contact stated that the vehicle never exhibited a warning that there was a failure.the failure mileage was 49,000 and the current mileage was 50,000. Updated 05/04/11updated 07/08/11
I smell gas in my car now its leaking gasoline. When i pull in driveway i see gas leaking from bottom.
For the second time in 6 months, the vehicle lost all power without warning while in transit.yesterday, it occurred on a major highway at 60 mph.the car died without warning with resultant loss of power stearing, breaking, dash, etc. We were able to coast into a breakdown lane, but it could have been disasterous.state police arrived within minutes of dialing 911.this happened 6 months ago as well and the dealership replaced a fuel injector module.the internet is repleat with very similar issues involving this model and vintage.the common response from volvo dealers seems to be that it is an "act of god".this is a defect, not an act of god, and these vehicles should be recalled.it is only a matter of time before there will be major injuries or deaths as a result of the defect.
A colleague and i often carpool to work. She picked me up in her new volvo van- purchased from dealer in late 2006.the colleague, got out to chat with my sister while i gathered the things i needed to take to work. The passenger side window was half-way open because it had been a mild january day in nj. The door, though, was locked, and i wanted to get inside the car ready to be on our way. I leaned my head inside and pushed the button i thought was the door lock.instead, i activated the power window which continued to close on my neck even after i released it.i just barely figured out what was happening and slipped my head out in time.i am afraid people will be injured. Isn't there a safety feature to prevent windows from closing automatically? has the feature been disabled on some cars? bad idea!
