Submitting complaint based on 2008 volvo xc70 recall #184/srs software upgrade 2008 xc70. Volvo corp & local volvo dealerships are unable to confirm the specific vin, mileage, date completed, & place of servicing of recall #184 on my volvo; specific vin completion details of recall are necessary for insurance coverage to drive vehicle per my insurance company. Was told to not drive vehicle on 01/28/12 & 01/30/12 by insurance company until specific details are provided & submitted in writing from us to insurance company as noted above to my vehicle. Srs airbag warning lights appear upon starting car at random times, turn off, or appear for no reason at all; was told problem was due to disconnecting & cleaning battery on 01/03/12, specifically nhtsa/odi safety complaint id #10442559. Dealer ran $130.00 diagnostic check for codes (to be reimbursed upon completing repair from dealership as noted on dealership invoice of estimated repairs from 01/03/12) on 01/05/12 & codes determined it was related to unhooking battery cables to clean as per complaint #10442559. Paid for repairs on 01/05/12, was refused by dealership $130.00 diagnostic check fee reimbursement, even though it's documented on estimate invoice that diagnostic fee would be reimbursed from 01/03/12. Dealer stated srs airbags lights would not appear again as of 01/05/12. As of 01/27/12 the last time vehicle was driven per insurance company to not drive, srs airbag codes appear randomly & intermittently. Volvo corp & local volvo dealerships are refusing to do recall #184 as they say it has "been completed" although there are no specifics to vin# relationship, mileage, date complete, & place completed; all other recalls & warranty repairs on all documents (with exception to recall #184) have specific vin number, mileage, date complete, & place completed documented.this complaint is similar to odi id #10211353.

We bought our volvo on oct. 22, 2007, and the day that we bought it, the airbag light went on.we had traveled to vermont from massachusetts where we bought the car.we called our sales rep from whom we bought the car to see if we could still drive the car safely.he said we needed to bring it in to have it checked out.when we returned to massachusetts from vermont,we brought it to the dealer, stutz volvo, salem, massachusetts, on november 7.they supposedly then fixed the problem, with the mechanic acknowledging that there was a recall on the srs system, recall no. 184. However, the airbag alert light came back on again on december 8.we called the service technician again, asking if it was safe to drive the car.he said he couldn't say until he checked the car out again.upset that our brand new car was still apparently defective and possibly dangerous to drive, we called our sales rep.he said that he did not know about the recall, and he told us that we would have to bring the car back in.

Am radio quit working several years ago. I complained to volvo of america and i've lodged a complaint previously with nhtsa regarding the safety factor with the radio not locking onto any am station. It is my concern that in the event of a national emergency i would not be able to receive the alert. I am, also, not able to tune to local area station for emergency traffic reports. My vehicle, with this problem, is not of an isolated condition. I have checked with a volvo dealership and the person hearing of my problem stated that it is a common, and expensive, situation that has plagued volvo cars. Numerous statements from fellow volvo owners have made the same complaint on computer websites.thank you for your time and assistance.the date below is only an estimation or a guess.

Battery failure caused by open low current short.if volvo followed manufacturer specifications upon routine maintenance inspections inclusive of any non-routine electrical faults and attempted repairs in these years in question, and if volvo followed proper maintenance repair procedures, this unknown problem which could be life threatening to maintenance technicians, owners, and passengers, would not be an issueevery day that this is installed improper risks the lives of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of volvo car owners from years prior to 2011.an immediate recall of all years prior to 2011 is warranted so the only way to correct this problem without endangering the lives of the public.one independent car dealer found it necessary, upon receipt of this information, to immediately correct this problem with all volvo's on his lot so he would not endanger the public.

The problems include door latches quit working and unable to secure doors when vehicle was stationary, doors could latch but upon starting the vehicle the locks would not engage and unable to drive or leave the vehicle if the doors are unable to engage. The passenger and driver side mirrors falling/flying off the mount while in motion and then shattering on the road way. When vehicle is stationary the rear door not catching when fully open and automatically closes inrapid motion. The am radio transmission/reception motor stopping,

The contact owns a 2008 volvo xc70. The contact stated that hot air blew from the air vents when the air conditioning was activated. Also, the engine overheated warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the fan control module needed to be replaced. Prestige volvo (285 east nj-10, east hanover, nj 07936, (973) 884-2400) was contacted and stated that they could not assist with the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v218000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

My 2008 volvos engine caught on fire while i was shopping , the engine is completely destroyed so it is totaled.

The contact owns a 2008 volvo xc70. While driving various speeds, the air conditioner failed and several warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v218000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

Have had multiple overheating incidents while driving, which coincided with the air conditioner stopping working. I think learned of volvo recall #09v218000 which describes exactly the failure i've been experiencing. I contacted volvo customer service, but they claim that my vin does not fall under the vehicles recalled. The referenced above was for 17,614 2008-2009 xc70, s80, and v70 vehicles. Evidently was related to a software programming error in the fan control module, and the defect corrective action was supposed to be replacing the fcm. Volvo told me that they will not assist with this effort, even though it's a major safety issue effected by the recall, but apparently not my specific vin. Any assistance in getting additional vins added to this recall would be greatly appreciated.

My volvo's engine started to sputter then died and lost all power.this occurred in seconds and left my two young children and iin a very dangerous, potentially deadly traffic situation.my gas gauge read 150 miles worth of gas left in gas tank.the volvo was towed to the dealership where it was found to have a faulty fuel pump and control module.both were replaced.

The contact owns a 2008 volvo xc70. The contact stated that the stereo failed to activate. The contact mentioned was concerned that the am station failed to activate and became concerned for his safety because he was unable to receive safety alerts. The failure occurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. 1. Low beam headlights failed - both at the same time, resulting in high beam only driving at night. Units available for inspection. 2. Yes. No low beam headlights. Upon inspection of wiring, during replacement of low beams, headlight wiring insulation found to be flaking off, exposing bare wiring. 3. Unknown. Found no information in google search. Plenty of information on others having same issue, in volvo forums online. Last search regarding this problem brought me to nhtsa website, to look on a recall about this issue, then to this form submission. 4. No. This is the first time i've been exposed to the problem. This is the first case personally, where a vehicle has suffered a loss of both low beam headlights simultaneously. The wiring issue was found when i pulled out the old bulbs for replacement. 5. No. My wife informed me that the low beams stopped working on her car. There was an indicator on the instrument panel indicating "low beam failure." strangely, i found both low beams to be burned out.

A 2008 volvo xc70 with approximately 30,000 miles stalled while driving about 30 mph.the fuel gauge indicated 1/4 tank and the low fuel indicator on the dash was not on.the vehicle had run out of gas.

Fuel gauge erratically moves downward inappropriately.seems to reset when car restarted, but totally undependable in terms of accuracy.auto is 3.5 years old but out of warranty at 60k mi.dealer recommends new fuel tank (which includes sending unit) and fuel pump.recommended against used part as "old part has been superceded" it sounds like this is a defect which has not resulted in a recall/campaign.note: repair with parts and labor is $2100.00.

While driving along with fuel indicator reading 1/4 - 1/2 tank remaining, my 2008 xc70 engine completely stalls out.this has happened twice and both times could have been potentially very dangerous.i am sickened to learn there is a recall for the 2011 model (software calibration for the fuel cut-functionality in the engine control module is too sensitive) but not the 2008!thanks volvo!!

The contact owns a 2008 volvo xc70. The contact was driving approximately 70 mph when the vehicle suddenly shut off. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The fuel gauge displayed a quarter of a tank full. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer. The technician stated that the vehicle shut off, as a result of an empty fuel tank; however, there was fuel added to the fuel tank prior to having it towed. The contact was aware of the safety complaints regarding the fuel system; and stated that the manufacturer should identify the problem. The failure mileage was 13,000.

Traveling on a busy expway during rush hour in left lane when car started bucking.i was able to switch 2 lanes and almost made it to the shoulder when the car stopped and wouldn't start again.car information system reported that the battery power was critically low.i put my hazard lights on and called the police.i could not get out of my car because the traffic was going by too quickly (i was at the bottom of a exit ramp.)police called their tow truck to get me off the road quickly.volvo on line service said it would tale an hour to get a truck to me even though i told them i was in a very hazardous place)car was towed to volvo dealership where within 5 minutes the person who went out to look at my carcalled me back and told me the car was out of gas; the gas meter read approx 1/3 full.he reported that there is a problem with the gas meter in the model of 2008 car ( they have had other customers with this problem) they have ordered a new gas meter and said that they will replace the old one as soon as the part comes in.i am lucky no one rear ended me and the wasn't a multiple car accident due to drivers swerving so they wouldn't hit me.if this is a problem in the volvo 2008 cx70, i think other volvo owners should be alerted to the possibility and volvo should identify and replace other faulty gas meters.

Rapid loss of power in fast lane on busy highway.two incidents.first time, gauge said 90 miles to empty.second time, 125 miles to empty.no indication of questionable low fuel.check engine light came on.luckily both times was able to get past semi's, as vehicle lost power totally in less than 30 seconds.from 65 to 0. Occurred in january 2009 and march 2009.january 2009 reported to state police.march 2009 reported to dealership for service.

2008 volvo xc70 on road trip to college on i-75, started sputtering and "check engine " light went on. I exited at nearest exitlake city, fl and parked and called for road side assistance. My car was flat-bedded and taken to ocala volvo. Fuel sensor, fuel tank , fuel pump etc replaced.i had to use a loaner for the road trip after already losing one day of travel.

2008 volvo xc70 had a defective fuel tank. Consumer states that the fuel tank was defective because it registered a half tank of fuel on the gauge, but the vehicle ran out of gas. *nj

My 2008 volvo xc70 spontaneously accelerated as i prepared to park. This happened on two occasions so far, and i am frightened to get behind the wheel again. The experience in both cases was almost identical. The car lurched forward suddenly as i slowed the car to park it.in both cases, my foot was depressed firmly on the brake. The car only accelerated to a few miles per hour, but both times the car stopped only once it collided: the first time with a fence, and the second time with a porch. The brake was seemingly useless.a field engineer inspected our car after the second crash but concluded that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. My research online has revealed that sudden acceleration is an issue that volvo did struggle with in many of their european models; however, according to volvo, it was likely related to the fact that they ran on diesel fuel. I have found acceleration issues like mine reported with unleaded fuel engines in the us, but never with a 2008 xc70. Volvo has yet to make reparations and we have been without a car for a month.

Prior to a 165 mile road trip the fuel gauge read 1/4 tank - 120 miles to empty. I filled the tank to full before heading out. After refueling, i closed the gas cap but forgot to shut the fuel door. The fuel door open error light came on and the fuel gauge still read 1/4 tank - 120 miles to empty. I pulled to the side of road and with the vehicle running shut the fuel door. The fuel door open error light was still lit and the fuel gauge did not change.i drove towards home on winding mountain roads in high speed l.a. Traffic. The indicator read 50 miles to empty and the low fuel indicator came on even though there was still 3/4 of a tank of gas. At the approximately 120 mile mark while driving 65 mph in 5 lanes of fast-moving l.a. Traffic the vehicle stopped.i was able to safely pull over through 3 lanes of traffic and stop safely on the freeway shoulder. The vehicle fuel gauge indicated the tank was empty and the fuel door open indicator remained on even though i had closed the door. The vehicle would not restart and i had it towed to the mechanic who routinely services it. I am waiting to hear the result of the diagnostic tests.i could have been killed if the vehicle had stopped on the winding mountain roads with no shoulders and no way for me to safely exit the freeway.at no time did any other vehicle warnings display other than fuel door open.i purchased a volvo for its impeccable safety record.this incident certainly does not live up to the stellar volvo reputation. I had no idea that driving with the fuel door open error displayed could result in the vehicle stopping on the highway even though the gas tank really was 3/4 full and not empty as the fuel gauge indicated. This should definitely be recalled and other drivers made aware of the safety issue associated with what appears to be a minor nuisance but is a major safety concern ultimately.

In mar, 2010 while in heavy slow moving traffic, car stalled.mileage indicator showed 245 miles to empty.car towed to volvo dealership and it was found tank was empty and fuel sensor was not functioning properly.problem was supposedly fixed under warranty.in mar, 2012 on interstate in driving rain car stalled again.i was able to get to shoulder before complete stoppage.fuel indicator showed 255 miles to empty.again we were out of gas.car taken to dealership where it was purchased from and they reported they could find no problem.fuel indicator seemed to work fine after that until aug, 2013.on a major highway the car began stalling again.i got it off the major road to wait for aaa assistance.fuel indicator showed 245 miles to empty but tank was again empty.volvo dealership states it will cost approx. $800 to diagnose the problem with fuel sensor and they are unable to quote a potential cost for the repair without the diagnosis.the loss of control when car runs out of gas is dangerous and terrifying.even if we could afford the diagnosis and repair, there is no guarantee that this will not happen again, esp. Since it was supposedly repaired in 2010!

Despite fuel gauge reading over 1/4 tank car stopped in middle ofa highway and nearly caused a collision; thankfully no one hurt.despite service bulletins on this issue with 2008xc70 no recall ever issued.several others have reported this issue to nhtsa, i believe a recall is appropriate due to the obvious safety problems and because this only happens to the 2008 model- obviously it was fixed on all the future models.

Seat belt buckle (driver's seat) will not release under tension (dangerous after an accident) metal tab must be pushed into buckle to release at all.dealer said it was unsafe to drive as it is, and not repairable; dealer replaced entire assembly at my expense.now passenger side seatbelt buckle is beginning to malfunction in a similar matter.

Auto dealership that sold the vehicle had installed brake parts, that were noncompliant with fmvss, which caused, sudden and complete brake failure on 12/1/2018, and $2000.00 in damages to replace entire rear brake system.i was traveling on busy residential street in lou, ky, 7-10mph, narrowly averted two accidents getting vehicle under control, and safely off the roadway. Mechanic inspection is attached, right rear caliper bracket noncompliant with fmvss, re violation of violation of 49 u.s.c., code 30112, prohibitions against the manufacture, sale or distribution of motor vehicle or "...parts installed that take the vehicle out-of-compliance with fmvss.

Traveling 7-10 mph, busy residential street in lou, ky, car swerved in front of me, applied brakes, nothing happened. Changed to right lane, attempted brakes, 2nd time, loud grinding noise, from rear of vehicle, no braking action. Pulled vehicle to far-right side of road, put red hazard lights on, pulled off roadway at first opportunity, to safely do so.

Had a flat tire, took to costco for a new tire, costco could not find rim size or load verification on the pillar which had only the weight of passengers. They could not find what size tire the original vehicle came with, stated the computer does not list the speed rating, the vehicle label does not list the rim size, tire size, or speed rating can't be obtained based on the label on pillar. The service technician has never encountered a label that does not have the information for correct tire size. Upon calling volvo at 1800 458-1552, the stated that my vehicle was not on any recall for my vin number and i asked them to check it again for any recall and again volvo insisted no recalls. Based on the manual for this vehicle volvo stated the psi would be 38 for front and rear 5 people. But could not tell me what size tire or rim came on car based my vin number. Volvo stated volvo does not have that type of information for my vin number.when asked how volvo issued the recalls, volvo stated based on the vin numbers, when i again asked what rim size and tire size based on my vin number is my vehicle to have on it, volvo did not know.i questioned volvo about the tire pressure label and asked why the newrecalled label would be 36 psi and the pressure volvo is stating is 38 psi volvo had no idea why it would not be 38 psi for tire pressure.as driving on the wrong sized/load/speed tire can cause injury and death. As driving on the wrong sized/load/speed tire can cause all kinds of vehicle damage. Please further correct the recall to include all make and model years. I have cannot get my vehicle properly servicedeven by trained service technician without this information. Volvo does to know which tire goes on my car based on my vin number. My vehicle does have the label but is missing information.

I have found acceleration issues like mine reported with unleaded fuel engines in the us, but never with a 2008 xc70. Volvo has yet to make reparations and we have been without a car for a month.

After getting a car wash (on a track, in neutral) the windshield on the drivers side leaks, and it also does the same thing in my 2010 xc60.

The contact owns a 2008 volvo cross country wagon. While driving 70 mph, the sun roof exploded. The glass particles projected upward because the headliner was closed and struck the windshield of the vehicle traveling behind the contact. There were no injuries. The contact pulled the vehicle over and noticed a football-sized hole in the middle of the sun roof and took pictures. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called his insurance company and was informed that they would cover the damages. The failure mileage was 162,000. The vin was unknown.
