After driving for about 20 minutes in 77f, sunny, dry conditions, i'd come off the freeway and stopped for about 15 seconds at a light to make a left turn. When i started making the left, someone blew through the red light to turn right coming from the opposite direction right in front of me. I let off the throttle but the throttle did not release. I was going about 15-20mph with the engine around 2,000rpm in, most likely, third gear. Since i was at low speed, i promptly tried gently tipping in the throttle to see if i could close but it did not so i immediately put the transmission in neutral. The motor revved up to about 4,000rpm which is a natural idle for this motor if the transmission is in gear and the motor is under load at 2,000rpm. After seeing it rev up, i put it back in drive and it jerked into gear because the vehicle was still on throttle. Suddenly the throttle cut and it returned to the normal pedal travel vs. Acceleration response relation.it felt as though the car had cruise control on. I could make it go faster but the motor wouldn't rotate any slower than about 2,000rpm.

When driving through puddles of water, slush or snow, the exhaust may cool down fastenough to change shape and touch the propeller shaft, causing a high pitched squealingnoise. This noise will be noticed by the driver for only a short time; once the exhausttemperature equalizes the noise will disappear. This creates a high-pitched, siren like noise, which can scare the driver causing his/her to swerve or lose control of the vehicle.the is a design defect recognized by volvo with repair kit available pn# 30742265.as this is a designdefect and a serious safety issue, this should be recalled by volvo and not a $250.00 repair by thecustomer.

The contact owns a 2007 volvo xc70. While driving at night, the lens cover on the headlamps was faulty. The contact was unable to see the road clearly because the lens cover was blurry. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the headlamp needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.the consumer made several attempts t clear the surface of the defective headlight lenses by going to an auto body shop who attempted to buff out the defects without success. The consumer then tried rain-x with no success. He finally tried a compounding rough, also with no success. The consumer was informed the lenses alone could not be replaced. The entire assembly would need to be replaced at a cost of $1200. Updated 06/13/16....updated 06/30/16 updated 07/14/16.

Started my car in the morning and it sounded normal (it had driven perfectly normal the day before).when i tried to back out of the driveway, it had no power in reverse and barely crept onto the road.when i put it into drive, it had no power either-only crawled very slowly.when i put it into manual drive, it went normally.back into automatic and it was creeping again.haven't taken it to a garage yet because i don't trust it on the road now.

On interstate highway the engine suddenly lost power without warning.a "reduced engine performance" light was lit on the dash.i was able to get off the interstate highway and stop on the berm.i turned off the engine and restarted.the warning light was still on but it had enough power to get me home (30 miles).this is a very serious problem.the warning light is still on and i am afraid to use the wagon.

Rear seat belt jams when seat folded down.cannot raise seat leaving safety issues and inability to use sealbelt.

Front seatbelt stuck in the retracted position and therefore the seatbelt cannot be used.the vehicle was parked when the defect was discovered.

Nothing we know of caused this failure except folding the rear seat down in the cargo position. When we raised the seat up the seat belt wouldn't release. Now we don't have a seat we can use and no operating seatbelt. I tried to get the roll to release then took it to a dealer who refused to warranty it since i tried to unjam it.

Passenger restraint system failed to allow the belt to be pulled from the retractor far enough for the clip to secure in the latch.intermittent problem began with the front passenger restraint after 1 month of use, 'locking up' at a different length with each attempt.attempts are always made with the car at a complete stop.problem has increased in frequency and severity over time.after 2 months of use the problem is constant, often taking over 15 attempts to extend the belt fully.on one occasion, the belt wasn't allowed to extend from the retractor any distance at all.driver and rear passenger retractors have begun to show same problems.

When reversing out of our garage first thing in the morning, brakes were nearly inoperative and required an additional 10-15 feet of stopping distance.unable to depress the brake (hard brake).i almost ran into a tree and hit my dog.dealer diagnosed as a faulty brake vacuum pump switch and brake vacuum.scariest thing i have ever had happen.luckily, no one was hurt as we were in a large driveway and my husband was able to get the dog out of the way.thank goodness we had the extra space.if this had been in a parking lot, i would have hit another car or hit a person without question.there was a recall for earlier model volvos (s40 & v40) and should be for any volvo vehicles with the same switch/brake vacuum before someone is injured severely or worse, killed.volvo is founded on the safety on their vehicles and should stand behind this issue 110%.

Initial rear spring failure driver side on 5/23/2011.car out of warranty at 50,00.appealed to dealer and volvo of america with no consideration for failure major suspension component, warranty, and safety issue.second spring failure on 4/2/2012, passenger side, mileage 67,274.*j

While traveling on the highway with 3 family members and our dog in the car this last weekend, there was suddenly a loud bang (sounded like something had hit the car). The road was smooth and weather was good.i pulled over immediately and could see nothing. Cautiously driving the rest of the way home (approx. 15 miles) the car seemed to handle normally although there was a new thudding noise when rolling over small road bumps. My wife took the car to a mechanic yesterday who put it up on a lift and discovered that the right rear coil spring had broken. He advised that this is a serious safety hazard, that we were lucky that a tire wasn't punctured or control lost while driving, and that the car should not be driven until the spring is replaced.this car is used in typical suburban family driving and has been regularly maintained. We do not subject it to heavy loads or use. I am shocked that there was a sudden catastrophic failure of the coil spring. I am filing this complaint because in all my years of driving i have never had such a sudden failure of a key component with potentially deadly consequences. You will have the resources to determine if this was just an isolated random failure or some more general design or manufacturing defect.

My wife was driving alone in her 07 volvo stationwagon on a routine errand down the i-83 interstate at 65 mph on a straight section when she heard a loud bang; like someone had shot at the car on the right side.having been unnerved by the loud noise and not knowing what it was, she took the exit ramp slowly, and the car slid out a bit to the right like it was on ice, but there was no ice present.upon inspection later, the right rear coil spring had snapped in two.we took it to the dealership, and after some haggling and a call to volvo factory, they replaced the spring (no charge for the part, but we had to pay the labor).additionally, they agreed to a loaner for the couple of days it was at the dealership.volvo factory agreed to open a "good will review" file and alerted the dealership. I was 936 miles out of warrantee.they said there was no recall, but agreed to paying for the part.no one could answer whether the other coils might snap spontaneously.they looked "ok".

The contact owns a 2007 volvo xc70. While sitting in the idle vehicle, the contact stated that the vehicle felt low. Upon driving a half mile down the road, the body of the vehicle collapsed on top of the wheels. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear coil spring failed and all the coil springs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 118,945.

Serious engine speed surging. Jumps to over 8000 rpm. Happens when stopping on octane, not always. I could have got killed while backing into my driveway on a hill. I have seen this at least 4 times and will not drive it. I informed my insurer. At dealer now, they say they have never heard of this and cannot duplicate. Lots of info on web from others who have same problem. It seems to be a throttle control issue and class action suit has been done on years just up to 2016. Volvo have extended warranty for the throttle module and ecm. I asked the dealer to research on this and if they cannot duplicate than replace the likely suspect and software as well as contact volvo for help. If this is a known issue, volvo needs get info out as someone is going to get hurt or die due to this known defect and should pay for the repairs. I love the care but will not drive it as it is. 63k miles on it.please feel free to call or email.thanks[xxx][xxx][xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
