Volvo xc60 flooded when parked & pool of water gathered in driver side floor board water damage in electrical has compromised safety system per dealer (air bag warning went off). Dealer indicated airbags may not deploy in event of crash (yikes, nhtsa please can you put to top of priority list tonsee what other volvos may be affected?) due to computer board damage due to water leak. Dealer indicated windshield needs to be resealed (dealer found windshield leaking& advised when pressed windshield was loose). Sunroof leaking & dealer advised due to drain pipes clog that needs to be cleaned/modified. Had called volvo car usa (spoke w/ bettty) b4 going to dealer, but was referred to dealer, said ultimate decision was up to midwest manager ("mm"). Mm advised our cost was about over $800, & volvo would pay around $1,000. Mm gave us only 24 hours to accept or reject their offer they called a "goodwill offfer". I called volvo car usa, left message w/ ann for betty but was advised again ultimate decision up to mm. We countered to be reasonable w/ $300 offer for us to pay which mm flatly rejected. Why hasn't a recall happened?dealer told us class action wasn't settled yet...we hope the gov. Will investigate broadly. Has authority & should look into it w/ a prompt document request to volvo w/ a public announcement. Windshield wiper & side mirror broke too.
Sunroof drains tubes are too short and attach to a sound trap in the a pillar of vehicle.sound trap allows the rain water to drain to outside of vehicle.with the design on the short tubes, they often detach from the sound trap causing excessive water to enter the interior of vehicle thereby flooding the floor boards and electrical systems that control the sunroof and airbags.airbags are then deactivated and require immediate servicing.during heavy rain and parked in lot, 3 inches of water collected at brake pedal area and rain dripping from sunroof control area.rain water shorted out my sunroof motor rendering it unusable.i was also advised by mechanic while performing an oil change that the airbags are deactivated and vehicle information system displays an urgent srs code.mold spores may develop under carpet presenting heath concerns for myself and child.all systems functioned properly prior to water leaking into vehicle. Recommended a windshield repair due to water entering the vehicle while parked and drivingwhich i consented.after nine days in volvo shop, i towed my vehicle to a windshield repair facility. New windshield was installed 12/2015 at my cost.rain water leak appeared again in 5/2016 after multiple day rain.leaks in exactly same locations.advised volvo immediately, however service department unwilling to repair at volvo expense and denied me future services.faulty drainage tubes are a documented problem by customers andmanager o. Cowl train clogged and sunroof drain tubes clogged causing electrical problems. I have to constantly replace the rear brake light bulbs ever few weeks.water gathered in the front passenger floor as well as the rear passenger floor. Water in side boards as well.the airbag indicator light is on stating urgent service needed. The power button for the sunroof curtain works intermittently.as well as the fan motor runs after turning off the ignition.all signs of an electrical problem caused by the clogged tubes and cowl train.i want to be part of the existing class action suit. No settlement has occurred yet.it was brought up in 2010 and has just been reinstated again.similar volvo's with the same year having these same problems and issues.hope the government investigates this issue.very concerned that the airbags will deploy or worse yet not work at all. This is definitely a safety issue.
During hot weather, the backup camera becomes inoperable and may just show a blue screen with a disconnect symbol, a black screen or flicker visual image.i live in sc and it goes out often.they have a repair part (called an equalizer)available for purchase at customer's expense. It is over 200.00 to correct a manufacture defect.volvo should issue recall or reimburse repair expense.
There is a class action lawsuit against volvo for both these problems and i was affected by both this month.1. Windshield for volvo xc60 is known for a failure of bonding along the top edge. When i brought it in the service guys were able to just push the windshield upwards and out with their bare hands to show me that there is a huge gap along the top edge. This happened to my car in the past 1 month and ended in a $420 repair that involved popping the whole thing off and resealing it. This is very dangerous because the water drips onto the steering wheel and electronics, which is distracting for the driver, but also obviously a huge threat to the car's electronic system. 2. In the same month, the car just failed completely, flashing all sorts of dashboard lights and demanding to be put into park when it was already in park. It said brakes and srs airbags were failing. The whole system went black and the fob was stuck in the console. The car had to be towed to the dealership, where they said the culprit was the rdar software, which is connected to the satellite radio. It causes a parasitic draw that keeps searches for a signal even when the car is off. They will charge everyone hundreds to update the software (not included in the free software update volvo boasts about), and sometimes more to replace the battery, plus labor, or maybe quote thousands to try to disable the satellite radio completely, which is hard or impossible because it's integrated into the rest of the electronics. Luckily mine was parked when this happened, but i don't think this needs explanation for why it's dangerous if the car just randomly drains of battery while you're driving due to a faulty satellite radio system that volvo + dealerships will do nothing about and charge customers hundreds or thousands even though the problem is very well documented. Disgusting and immoral.

My customer was headed northbound on hwy 63, had just passed over i-70 when the customer heard a poof and smoke started bellowing from the hood and the tailpipe. They pulled over on the side of the road immediately, but by then smoke was coming out of the vents as well. They got out of the car, and called 911 because of smoke started to thicken. About one minute later, flames started coming out from underneath the right (pass) side of the car and within 25-30 seconds, flames were coming from up under the hood as well.the fire department got there and put out the fire. The vehicle was towed back to the dealership from there. The car was in perfect condition. It passed inspection at the honda dealership. We don't know what happened or what went wrong. We did some research and there was a recall number 09v477000; fuel system. This recall was supposedly fixed by volvo. We contacted volvo and they said that there is nothing that they could do. However, in carfax there is no record of the recall or that the recall was fixed.
The contact owns a 2010 volvo xc60. While driving approximately 30 mph, the speedometer displayed 80 mph and the shift lever would shift gears from drive into neutral and then into park independently. The contact mentioned that the electrical system was not working properly. The failure recurred several times.the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000.

Battery drain from satellite in vehicle.also, when engine is off, the radio comes on unless manually turned off.however, even with everything off, battery still drains.i have been left in now two areas without a running car.i replaced the battery in approximately august, 2016 after having it towed to a volvo dealer in southern california and also replaced the battery a volvo repair shop in august, 2018 in southern oregon. I am worried that with the continuous draining of the battery caused by something entitled rdar that i will lose all power to my vehicle while traveling on the freeway and in areas away from any assistance for repair (i.e., 2 lane roads to the oregon coast, freeway travel on i-5, etc.).after some research, i find that there is a pending lawsuit for this issue, filed in new jersey.

The contact owns a 2010 volvo xc60. While driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. After several attempts, the vehicle restarted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the oil trap, air sensor, and air filter needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. Volvo cars of mission viejo (28730 marguerite pkwy, mission viejo, ca 92692)was contacted via phone. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,165.
The problem of the engine was first reported to culver city volvo on 12/12/2011.on 10/30/2012 the vehicle was sent back the 2nd time for the same problem.again, on 12/05/2012, the vehicle was sent back the 3rd time for the same problem.i went back to culver city volvo to pick up the vehicle on 12/24/2012.as soon as i started the engine at the dealer's parking lot, two messages came on dashboard.one was "engine system service required" and the other one was "transmission system service required".the service department took the vechile back.one 12/27/2012, i went back to pick up the vehicle.the same message came on dashboard.today is 01/05/2013 and i have not received any phone call from culver city volvo.culver city volvo is still trying to fix the problem.
"oil low" message appeared on lcd display inside speedometer dial. Turned off car, waited for oil to drain (10 minutes), and checked dipstick. Bone dry. Had to add 3 quarts of oil (added what was on sticker in windshield) to reach the acceptable midpoint on the dipstick. Car should not be using half of the oil in the engine between services. Problem has not popped up before this. As a car may be 1 quart low at time of servicing, being half empty is unacceptable. Car has had regular maintenance since built-to-order new in 2010. Volvo xc60 t6 awd.
Driving at slow speed with no cars in front or behind me.suddenly the car engaged the city safety and it came to an abrupt halt.
After starting up from a stop, city safety activated with an emergency brake activation, we were almost rear ended by the car behind us.there was no reason for the activation of the brakes, vehicle in front was accelerating away from us, plenty of space between us, and space was increasing.this occurred on 3 more occasions before i could get to the dealer.my wife has not driven the car since, as she no longer feels safe, worried about self, and the baby due to hard stop or if rear ended.
The contact owns a 2010 volvo xc60. Upon starting the vehicle he attempted to operate the air conditioning unit but only warm air would blow from the vents.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where he was told that the refrigerant was leaking from the air conditioning unit.the vehiclewas repaired.the failure mileage was 3,142 and the current mileage was 5,000.
The headlight assembly is held in place only by 3 plastic tabs. With time those tabs become brittle and break, and the headlights come off completely loose from the car, held only by the wiring.
I own a 2010 volvo xc-60, purchased in sept. 2009. Today, for the third time in 6 months this vehicle ran out of gas due to a faulty fuel gauge. All three times the gas gauge indicated slightly less than 1/2 and the odometer message said "140 miles to an empty tank. Since both my wife and i drive this vehicle it is difficult to remember how much the vehicle has been driven since the last fill-up. I am very concerned that this might happen again at high speed on a highway, at a busy intersection, or at night in an isolated or unsafe location. The volvo dealership again has the car in for repairs, twice they claimed to have fixed the problem.i have no confidence that volvo knows what the problem is or how to fix it.
The contact owns a 2010 volvo xc60. While the contact wasdriving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The engine restarted after several attempts and then resumed normally. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the technician advised that the failure was related to the fuel system. The contact was uncertain of the defective part that was replaced during the service repair. The identical failure occurred on two separate occasions. The vehicle was being diagnosed and repaired by an authorized dealer at the time of the complaint filing. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
2010 volvo xc-60. Consumer states while driving the fuel tank began to briskly leak gasoline *tgwthe dealer informed the consume the fuel line which connected to the fuel pump was defective.the repairs were completed under warranty.

The contact owns a 2010 volvo xc60. While driving various speeds, the contact smelled fuel fumes inside the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. An independent mechanic diagnosed that there was a fuel leak and the fuel pump and regulator needed to be repaired. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 199,000.

Pulling into driveway, pressed on brake pedal. Foot was on edge of brake pedal, and rubber cover popped off. After inspecting, it appears that the "lips" on the back end of the rubber pedal cover that hold it to the metal pedal are not long enough to grasp the pedal securely. It should wrap around the pedal like a rubber band, but there is so little extra rubber on the back that it appeared that the rubber cover could literally pop off, and that's just what it did. Go inspect yours. This was on a 2010 xc60 t6 awd with standard rubber pedals. Underneath this rubber cover (the traction on the pedal), is a piece of untextured metal which has zero traction. Driving, this could cause a serious accident. Slightly wet and there is no way to stop if your foot slips due to no rubber on the pedal any more.
The steering sticks/locks and pops when turning to the right making if very hard to impossible to steer, but works fine when turning to the left. The problem is worse when the car first starts and improves as it is driven. The steering gear has been replaced twice now (at 34k and 92k miles). The volvo dealer reported no problems with the steering pump and could not explain the reasons for the repeated failure, simply reporting the steering gear needed to be replaced again. The problem did go away after replacing it again. The issue was also reported to volvo of america, as this could be a serious and life threatening failure, by impeding adequate steering.

After researching the issue online, i discovered numerous complaints about the design of the sunroof drains. I live in west palm beach, fl and have had negative experiences with the local volvo service departments here, so i feel there is no recourse for my troubles. In talking with others regarding bad service experiences, i discovered others who have had similar experiences. Additionally, after reading complaints online and the litigation against volvo inthe state of new jersey, it is appears volvo has no plan to accept responsibility for this problem.
Drivers door would not latch.luckily this happened while the car was stationary and not while it was in motion.the door had to be tied shut to drive it to the local dealer for repair.dealer found the latch was worn and needed replaced.the car is in excellent condition and has 80,000 highway miles on it.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)upon receiving my 3020 volvo xc 60, i took it back to the dealer once, then two times for a air leak audible through the drivers side window insulation. The repair dealer marrsuch kaiserslautern volvo told me that yes there was a recall technical statementon the drivers side window that was indeed discovered. The third time t was brought back for the supposed weatherstripping change. Still no difference. I finally gave up...just last week did i notice the body paint rubbing off the bottom left corner of the door and a slight rubbing on the frame. It seems to me that other customers have noticed the air leak at 40 mph or the misalignment of other xc 60's. I am at [xxx] ...would you please let me know?
Already had to replace passenger side rear spring and now have to replace both front springs.they have all broken will driving on city streets.replaced the rear 11/2015.will be replacing both front springs 6/2017.
While driving the low tire press warning came on after pulling into service station, approx 2 blocks pressure in tire was 25# when attempting to add air the valve stem end fell off exposing the shrader valve. After taking to dealer they replaced tire press monitor module under warranty. Aapprox 6 months earlier i had a low air press warning on a different wheel and after driving about 1/4 mile home inspection showed valve stem was gone, dealer replaced press sender unit and tire at my expense. Xc70 has tj24767 dated dec 2011 that addresses tpms nut corrosion. When dealer was question if this applied to xc60 was told they seldom see this problem but would not replace monitors.
While i was driving the car around a corner after stopping, i had a frontal collision with another car. My crash avoidancesystem did not activate. I would like the black box of my vehicle to be checked. Volvo north america was not helpful when i called them.
When leaving work, i got into my vehicle and found a piece of plastic with beige grease all over it. I looked further and saw a metal pin on the floor and another small piece of plastic. I didnt know where it came from until ready to drive off i put the vehicle in gear and found the button on the shifting knob was gone. This was the missing piece!!

2010 xc60 leaking with water collecting primarily in the drivers footwell. After very med to heavy rains. Water rolls down the drivers side interior while driving in the rain. If car has been sitting in rain it may leak slowly but will drain or leak more when turning left or right. Water has started to collect on drivers side electronics.

Water collects in the driver side footwell after every rain.while driving during rains, water leaks from (1) driver side top left corner (2) "a" pillar and (3) lower left corner of dashboard at emergency brake release.took xc60 to local volvo dealer where the windshield was pulled and reset.front floor carpets were pulled, fan-dried and reinstalled.volvo waived the charge for windshield reinstall, but would not waive charges for carpet services.this vehicle has experienced this problem earlier, requiring a windshield replacement.
Please see link & specifically see highly concerning comment by the champ dated 1/16/14-http://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-xc60-51/leaking-front-windshield-2010-xc60-67995/. Why hasn't a recall happened?dealer told us class action wasn't settled yet...we hope the gov. Will investigate broadly. How many others have/had these issues & more importantly how many lives are at stake due to electrical damage to system(s) involved w/ airbag deployment, etc. How long has big corporation known about issues & what do their internal documents say? the gov. Has authority & should look into it w/ a prompt document request to volvo w/ a public announcement. Windshield wiper & side mirror broke too.
Driving at slow speed with no cars in front or behind me.suddenly the car engaged the city safety and it came to an abrupt halt.
While making a left turn onto a main street in morning traffic, my passenger side door swung completely open.speed was approx. 10mph or less.i immediately pulled over just feet from entering onto a busy freeway.the latch on the passenger door would not engage.door would not latch after restarting car,,locking and unlocking vehicle with key or any other method.finally i tied the door closed with several bunggie cords and drove to work.the door latched when i reached the job 45 minutes later.i pushed the door lock button on driver side as normal.temperature in illinois that day was below freezing.this is the first and only occurrence.
My vehicles windshield leaks on the drivers side during and reciveing a car wash on a teack in neutral.
Although the car was a new car, within three weeks of purchase, the air-conditioner did not work.when we brought it into the dealership, the service manager said that a pebble hit the condenser, and i was told that i would be charged $950.00 for the repair.i got a manager and the owner of the dealership involved, and they finally agreed not to charge me.inasmuch as i am on the toll road every day, and i am not driving on a gravel road, i think this has to be a design flaw because there apparently is not protection for the condenser.what would happen if this car was to be driven on a gravel road?in forty years of driving, i have never heard of anything like this happening.i also believe that volvo should recall these cars and develop some sort of protection for the condenser, as this is a tremendous liability.
The contact owns a 2010 volvo xc60. While driving at approximately 35 mph with the adaptive cruise control activated, the vehicle abnormally accelerated until the brakes were applied. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the failure could not be duplicated. In addition, the contact stated that a "radar blocked" service light has intermittently illuminated on the dashboard since the date of purchasing the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were 1,000. Updated 11/03/10 the consumer stated all information was accurate. Updated 11/04/10
2010 volvo xc60 surged on three occasions while stopped at a red light.the consumer stated the first time the incident happened, the vehicle began to move forward and the tachometer reading was 2500 rpm. The light happened to turn green before the vehicle went any further. The second time, the same thing happened. The third time, while at a red light, the vehicle surged and the tachometer reading was 4500 rpm. The consumer placed the gear in neutral and the tachometer increased to 5500 rpm. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they were unable to find a problem. Since the vehicle was a lease, the dealer gave the consumer another vehicle, same make and model. However, the replacement vehicle also surged while stopped at a red light and shot forward into the rear of another vehicle.
1.can barely see out of inside rearview mirror in the daytime.particularly hazardous if cars following do not have their headlights on.volvo says they cannot lighten/correct the auto dimming mirror.2.blis system is not reliable for cars in blind spot and should be ignored.however, it cannot be turned off. Response from volvo:hi , thank you for contacting volvo cars of north america.the auto-dim rearview mirror is unable to be lightened for daytime use. There is no permanent shut-off for the blis function in your vehicle.of course, it can be shut off during use, but must be done manually each time the vehicle is started. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to respond.drive safely, volvo cars of north america
Rear window in 2010 volvo xc60 exploded after small impact into thousands of very sharp shards (not the "pebbles" as is supposed to happen).shards were sent throughout the cabin including to thepassenger seats, windscreen, speedo, etc.this does not seem the appropriate way for tempered glass to behave.
Vehicle windshield isn't sealed properly. Water pours into car, just under the dash at an alarming rate whenever it rains. When coming to a stop or accelerating, the water that has collected in the body can be heard sloshing back and forth. When the outside temperature drops, the inside windows need to be scraped. This water leak has also caused a mold and mildew smell.

The windshield leaks when it rains.it obstructs my vision while the rain water ran down the inside of the glass.this is a safety issue while driving.

It has been very cold here in germany. Our temperatures have dropped below zero. I went outside on the 20th to clean off the snow from my car. I walked upon my drivers side window shattered into a million pieces. My car was towed to the dealer only to find it's not under warranty. I love my volvo, i have only had it for two months and now we have to come out of the pocket for something that happened weather related.

Tire pressure sensor gauges are corroded and have failed on three wheels in the last three years.
Tire pressure monitor susceptible to corrosion from road salt and can blow out valve stem rapidly deflating the tire. We had just returned from a trip with the vehicle and parked it at home when a short time later the valve stem had blown out deflating the tire.
