2004 volvo v70 accelerated at high speed when placed on drive and consumer could not stop the vehicle using the brake. Consumer air bags did not deploy.the vehicle traveled over a cement barrier blowing out the two rear tires.the consumer had to turn off the vehicle's ignition to stop the vehicle.the manufacturer sent someone to inspect the vehicle but they were unable to find anything wrong.
When we first purchased the car we drove it for about a week before it started surging forward and stalling a lot. My fianc and i would have to pull over, park the car, have to turn the key three times before starting. Would have to repeat process every 5 minutes. So we took it to paramount volvo of hickory, ended up taking it there for service. Dropped it off with a max full tank of gas as well, along with personal items we left in the car. It takes then about 4 or 5 days before calling us back with diagnostics, so we end up paying almost 1,600$ to get the timing chain replaced, new hoses put on,fuel pump replacement, and the fuel injectors. We pick it up, and our gas is almost on empty....and a few items were missing out of our vehicle as well. I know they have to test drive it after servicing the vehicle, it seemed like they took it on a joy ride all over hickory. But we decided not to mention that, and took it as a compliment of them "liking" the car. At least we had it fixed we thought, then drove 45 minutes up the mountain home. Drove for about a day or two until "check engine" light came back on, so we called volvo back. That time we ended up getting the fuel pump replaced on a "recalled part". Again it drive fine after picking it back up 2nd time then started acting up again, brought it back and they fixed the timing on it. Picked it up, week or two later we set up a new appointment because the car is surging, rpms won't go over 2000, kicks out and in gear, rpm gauge fluctuates when stopped. My 4 year old daughter and i were driving down the highway yesterday and it started surging, the steering seemed alot looser, then it started shaking around a curve pretty bad, got scared and braked, steering wouldn't turn , kept going straight, ran into the grass ,thank god. We could have died. Also attaching a photo of the rest of my complaint since it wouldn't fit.
Vehicle warning light for airbag is alarming since my airbag didn't deploy in my 2017 car accident when my car was hit from rear, front and driver side.car was total.seat beat and airbag failure in vehicle during accident while moving.this vehicle had a small tap accident but airbag warning light continues to appear but airbag didn't deploy..
This is the fifth time this problem occurred, the last one being yesterday on5/7/07.it happened the first time on 9/25/06, then 10/03/05, 8/1/06 . Dealer called on08 /04/06 , and said car was ready.husband cranked car and had same problem again. This time dealer kept car until 8/15/06 , and had not had problem again until yesterday, and it was the same problem again.driving about 50 mph the engine hesitatedabout three times and then the electrical system failed.the engine keptrunning though not at full power.the brakeswereoperative , but the pedalwentalmost to the floor.all gauges flickered andwent blank.the air conditioner(a/c) fan keptrunning, but therewasno cool air.the windows will not operate, the turn signals will not operate, therewere no brake lights. And i was scared.will take to dealer again today.
Without warning the entire instrument panel (speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, driver information) stop working and the instrument panel lights go out. Driver is unable to determine speed or other critical information.
My driver side seat heater caught on fire today and smoldered a hole through the seat.i was driving in a residential neighborhood in the morning around 9:15am.
Pulled into a parking spot on the street, put the car in park, but was unable to turn the key to turn the car off.it took me almost 20 minutes of jiggling the key around and spraying wd40 into the ignition cylinder before being able to very slowly get the key to turn enough to turn the car off.i am not a weak person and was honestly afraid that the amount of pressure i was applying was going to cause the key to break off in the ignition.i immediately took the car to the nearest volvo dealer (cherry hill, nj) and since this happened on a sunday morning, i had to leave the keys with an explanation of the problem on a dropbox form.when i called the service dept today, they told me that they would have to custom order a replacement part from sweden and that it could be a week before my car is repaired.the service person said that this sometimes happens when people attach a large amount of keys to their car key and it causes stress on the ignition cylinder.i have never, ever done that.i always keep my car and house keys separate for safety purposes, so there is no reason this should have happened.after looking for more info on the internet, it appears as though this happens on a fairly regular basis with other owners.i am the original owner of this car and am religious about keeping it in good running order with routine, scheduled maintenance.failure to be able to shut a car off without any prior warning should certainly be considered a safety issue.thanks.
This complaint pertains to the drivers side seat-heater. When activated, on the lowest of 2 settings, the occupant of the drivers-side front seat experiences a burning-pain sensation in the right-rear area of the thigh, after 60-90 seconds of the seat heater being activated via dash button. The owner of the car worries that: 1.) accidental activation of the drivers-side seat heater, with no occupant in that seat, could result in thermal damage to the leather and padding of the seat, as well as combustion leading to the destruction of the car. 2.) accidental activation of the seat-heater with an occupant in the drivers-side front seat could result in,sudden and extreme, discomfort to the vehicle operator, resulting in an uncontrollable physical reaction to pain, which could cause the automobile to leave the road, resulting in an accident. 3.) the value of the car to be decreased upon potential sale of the car, due to the fact that the seat does not heat as intended, and additionally poses a danger to the driver of the vehicle. The fact that this apparatus' failure to operate as intended is in no part due to the owners following of recommended service and maintenance guidelines, would be interpreted as a "defect" by the potential buyer, thus devaluing the car, is worrisome. A fire caused inadvertently, or sudden pain causing a vehicle operator to involuntarily take his/her whole focus off of the task of driving, certainly constitutes a vehicle safety issue. An issue, affecting the immediate vehicles' driver and occupants, as well as other motorists on the road.volvo submodel: v70 "r" .
After investigation, i discovered that used vehicle just purchased (2004 volvo v70) had a bad rem module; rendering fuel gauge, rear door locks, fuel door latch, and hatchback lock inoperative.the rear hatchback has no manual method to lock it; making vehicle unsecurable. Investigation online indicates this is a known issue.dealer wants around $200 to update software to fix problems.this is unacceptable, since at least two critical items (hatchback and fuel door latches) depend on functioning rem to secure them.i believe these items should be coveredby the manufacturer regardless of age.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving at 40mph, the vehicle hesitated, and the electrical system failed.the service air bag message readout illuminated, the brakes became spongy, and the steering stiffened.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer who unable to determine the problem.
I was driving at about 35 mph. When i slowed down to make a 90 degree right turn, without warning the engine and power steering went off as i was turning. I had to manually steer the car and luckily did not crash because there was no car in the opposite lane. I pulled over to the side of the road, restarted the car, and received no error message. I took the car to the local volvo dealer where they could find nothing wrong and deny this is a recall issue.
Our 2004 volvo v70 engine cut off while driving on highway. At the time, we were traveling at approximately 45 miles per hour. Luckily there was a side road nearby so we were able to coast, stop, and restart the car safely.since that day, the check engine light has been coming on and then going off and the engine has shut down while driving on several other occassions.we took the car tovolvo and they claimed there were not any recalls on our 2004 volvo v70 and performed a $65 diagonstic service and determined that our fuel pressure sensor had failed and need to be replaced at a cost of over $400. We pulled recall information for our car off motortrend's sited (see below) and forwarded this to the dealership.the dealership called volvo's customer support team and they said our car was outside the warranty period and had no recall for this issue. We countered that recalls are not warranty claims and fall outside that window. Our car has experienced the same issue listed in recall listed below and the repair and diagnostic test should be honored by volvo!!recall date jun 05, 2007 consequences: misfire may occur during driving that, in turn, will reduce the engine torque and in the worst case scenario, the engine may stall without warning. In certain traffic situations this could cause an unsafe situation and possibly a crash. Remedy: dealers will replace the fuel pressure sensor free of charge. The recall began on june 29, 2007. 2004 volvo v70 will lurch, left rear door open warning light comes on, interior lights come on, warning triangle appears.this is accompanied by a loud thump, followed by a complete power down of the car.very dangerous; could leads to deaths on highways.apparently volvo has known about problem for some time.caused by a malfunction of the cem.has occurred about 7 times thus far from 4-2010 to 8-2010.
Sometimes, when the car has been traveling for a long time (at least three hours), the entire car will lurch, the rpms will rev, the interior lights will come on, and i will get a "left rear door open" error message.a couple of times this was followed by a complete power-down of the dashboard (lights out, all instruments off) and a warning that my brakes had failed.other have had this identical problem:http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0fcb01/10this problem has been going on for years and started with about 30,000 miles on it.when traveling at highway speeds, the jerk of the car scares the driver and is dangerous if other cars are around.
2000 v70xcaw cross country wagon etm system failed.the ac hose compressor condenser was replaced. The vehicle was leaking gas and the o-ring seal on the pump sender was replaced.the front passenger window was inoperable when trying to use the master controls. The dealer replaced the module switch. The engine would whine at highway speeds while accelerating. The battery, oil pan, upper torque mount, angle gear, rotors, fuel pump, fuel tank, fuel seal and struts were all replaced. The cv boot was leaking. The turbo charger was replaced because of an oil leak.

Driving on freeway at 60 mph, vehicle motor quit- dash lights came on-was able to move to shoulder-where vehicle restarted in neutral then died again- since vehicle has died very often after driving with absoulutly no warning-very very dangerous- was told drive by wire problem- eltronic throttle control, electronic fuel regulator, pedal and or throttle sensors-any number of electric sensor problem--all of this is "drive by wire" unsafe design

Engine stopped on freeway, in heavy traffic.wife and children in the car.exact description as in nhtsa campaign i.d. 07v226000.dealer (carlsen volvo, palo alto, ca), claimed the car had no indication of recalls on their computer, but volvo recall campaign r181 clearly states my vehicle and specific engine # 61 (6th and 7th digits in vin) were subject of recall for the specific symptoms involved.i called volvo u.s. And they gave me the same rote response, "your vehicle's vin number doesn't show up as being included in r181".this is patently false.according to the recall, carlsen volvo should have replaced the fuel pressure sensor free.instead, over the course of 2years and multiple visits to the dealer, they never properly diagnosed nor repaired the problem.when your engine stalls in heavy traffic at freeway speeds, you and your passengers are at severe risk!i want my free repair from volvo!i know i'm not the only v70 owner who has been lied to in this specific way by volvo and their dealers.

I purchased a used vehicle the old owner said there was a recall. The check engine light goes on and off. I contacted the volvo dealer he ran vin but no recall for this car. I took it to a mechanic and he ran a diagnostic which read fuel sensor. The recall i saw for this year car is similar to the one issued.could my car have been missed? nhtsa campaign id number: 07v226000recall date: 2007-06-05summary:on certain passenger vehicles, the fuel pressure sensor located on the left end of the fuel rail may, at times, transmit incorrect signal regarding the fuel pressure to the engine control module. The contact owns a 2004 volvo v70r. The contact was driving 70 mph when the vehicle decelerated and the engine sputtered. The check engine light also illuminated during the failure. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic stated that the failure occurred because the fuel pressure sensor was set to high. The manufacturer was notified and they stated that the vin failed to qualify for the recall under nhtsa campaign id number 07v226000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 90,100.

Driving home from detroit to indianapolis on highway... Check engine light came on, then went out a little further down the road... Later came on again... Engine was running fine... Then sudden power loss....engine completely stopped... Coasted to side of highway with no power steering or power brakes... Restarted engine... Engine ran well enough to get me to next exit before losing power again... This time it wouldn't run well enough to drive it after restarting.... After expensive trip to dealer for repair, found out issue was a fuel pressure sensor that failed... This is kind of like having your car lose power and stop running because your coolant temperature gauge failed... Engine control module should not shut car off in response to this fuel pressure sensor fail... This gauge is used to optimize fuel consumption... It's not a pressure regulator... Unexpected and complete power loss on a highway can be very dangerous... Engine control module should not be programmed in this way...
The check engine light on our 2004 volvo v70 wagon came on while driving down the highway.the vehicle then made noticeable hesitations but the vehicle continued to be drivable.after getting to atlanta and taking the car to a volvo dealership, the fault code said the problem was with the fuel sensor. Interestingly there was a recall on the 2004 volvo v70 recall #07v226000 for the exact same problem.i called volvo and they say it is not covered as the problem was only for vin's 286155 - 404037.volvo declined to cover the problem.the recall clearly states that the fuel sensor problem can cause the vehicle to stall and it is a dangerous problem in my opinion.in our case we are luckily the problem did not cause the vehicle to stall completely on the highway.i highly recommend that you look into this issue on the 2004 v70 volvo's after the vin range as the problem appears not to have been resolved on all vehicles exhibiting this dangerous problem.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo v70.while driving approximately 55 mph on normal road conditions; the engine stalled without warning.there were several attempts before the engine restarted.the vehicle was able to resume normal operation.whenever the vehicle was in operation the failure occurred intermittent.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic on two separate occasions for diagnostic testing.the failure was related to thefuel pressure sensor.the vehicle was not been repaired for the malfunction. There was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number 07v226000 (engine and engine cooling).the contact experienced the identical failures mentioned in the recall.however, the vin was excluded from the recall defect.there was concern of the safety risk involved.the failure mileage was 101,000.the current mileage was 102,500.
Approximately two months ago, my car began shuddering and bucking in a random fashion, and getting no power to the accelerator. I contacted my mechanic, and since it couldn't be duplicated and at that time there was no "check engine" light on, there was nothing that he could check. This continued with varying degrees of intensity until last evening(12/15/09) at approximately 6:00 pm. As i was merging onto the highway, the car began shuddering intensely. I down shifted and it continued. Without warning(and while having fully merged and reaching the highway speed of 65 mph), the car died. I was able to pull to the shoulder without incident. The check engine light came on and remained on when i restarted the engine. It again died within a few feet. After a third attempt, i was able to restart the car and exit the highway and return home.in researching the possible cause, i came across the description of the following nhtsa recall on certain '03-'04 models(07v226000). My dealership informed me on the following day that the issue with the car was indeed the fuel pressure sensor, and that my car was not part of the recall. I know from other v70r owners that they too have had the same issue, and that volvo usa is aware of the problem. I would like for an investigation into the recall be expanded to more of the vins that were produced in '03-'04. Had i not been able to pull over to the shoulder immediately(i was in the right hand lane), i could have been in a serious accident. The highway in question is a 3 lane highway that was quite busy and it was fully dark at the time that the engine failed.
Fuel pressure sensor mis-communicates to the ecm about the fuel pressure, and so the ecm gives a mis-communication to the fuel pump how much pressure to exert. According tonhtsa recall 07v22600 for volvo v70 2003-2004, "misfire may occur during driving ... The engine may stall without warning;in certain traffic situations this could cause an unsafe situation and possible a crash."the volvo dealer read the nhtsa recall notice and said that the customer would have to pay for elective repair for reason that this "vin does not pop up."the volvo manufacturer (800/458-1552) said that the "vin does not pop up; there is no recall for this vehicle."i am requesting nhtsa to add this vin to recall 07v226000, then notify me that it had done so.
The contact owns a 2004 volvo v70. While parked, the contact noticed that the check engine warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The technician recommended updating the software. The software was updated however afterward, the check engine warning light illuminated intermittently. Additionally, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the control electronics module would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but to no avail. The contact informed the dealer that there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 07v226000 (engine and engine cooling) that could have been related to the failure. The dealer advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The technician then replaced the fuel pressure sensor. The failure was remedied. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. ..updated 11/29/12 the consumer stated during the latter part of 2011, the "check engine' light came on and would go off intermittently. June 30, 2012 the vehicle would not start. A mechanic determined there was an internal fault in the cem module. It was replaced but, did not repair the vehicle. The vehicle shut of while making a turn on august 21, 2012. There were no codes displayed. The consumer requested the fuel sensor to be checked. It was found to be the reason for the failure and replaced at a cost of $375. The consumer request that recall 181 be required to expand its coverage.updated 12/4/2012

I was driving alone in napa, ca at night on tuesday, december 30th.i signaled to make a right hand turn from 30mph (so i was braking at the beginning of the turn and during the turn).about half way through the turn, i lost all power, power steering, brakes, etc.all of the dashboard lights went on - car was dead.i was trying to brake and steer to miss colliding with a parked car - to no avail.the car came to a stop about 1 foot from the a parked car in the opposite lane from where i was supposed to be.fortunately, there was neither a waiting motorist nor a pedestrian walking at the intersection, as i most certainly would have hit them.while in the wrong lane, facing the wrong direction (by about 30 degrees) i managed to start the car immediately, but not without an oncoming motorist having to go around me. The same thing happened twice in october of this year - i brought it to my local volvo dealer/service shop where they found "nothing" wrong with it. I did my own online research, finding similar issues and a recall citing problems with the fuel pressure sensor.my dealer replaced that part- and it has been running without incident until this tuesday. Worth mentioning: in each incident, i was braking from no more than 30 mph.i had at least 3/4 tank of gas (the first time it occurred i was leaving a gas station!)
The contact owns a 2004 volvo v70.while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle began to skip and stutter as if it were going to shut off on the highway.the contact took her vehicle to the local mechanic and was advised to take it to the volvo dealer.the dealer diagnosed the issue and stated that the pressure sensor and the mass air flow sensor needed to be replaced.the contact paid $700 for the repair because her vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 07v226000 (engine and engine cooling).the volvo manufacturer agreed with the dealer's diagnosis.they also informed her that they would deduct a percentage off of the repair cost; however, that never occurred.the failure mileage was 68,835.

I am very concerned about the very poor quality of illumination provided by the headlights, particularly the low beam, of my 2004 volvo v70r.if i drive on a highway with oncoming traffic such that i can not use my high beams i will be overdriving my low beams at any speed over 30 mph.i have already been back to the dealer in bellingham, wa to have adjustment, but to no help.worst headlights i have ever had on a car.and these are hid special lights!!!

When the vehicle is driving at any speed and the accelerator pedal is pushed down, there is often a loss of power and the vehicle will not move forward for up to 5 to 10 seconds. There is a recall on this year and model already but my specific vehicle with my vin is not covered. However our vehicle is doing the exact same thing as the vehicles that have been recalled. I have spoken to volvo but they have been unwilling to work with us to repair the vehicle. I feel as though the previous recall should have been expanded but i am unsure. Thank you
On a recent rainy afternoon i stalled out in the middle of a very busy intersection in my 2004 v70, subjecting myself and my family to a very dangerous situation.i was able to restart my car, and after several more stall outs and restarts i was able to limp to a nearby parking lot where i called my repair shop to have my car towed in for repair.my mechanic diagnosed the problem as a faulty fuel pressure sensor, ordered the part from the local volvo dealer and repaired my car; the total bill, including towing was $615.later that week, my husband looked up vehicle recalls on the nhtsa website and found recall #r181 which exactly described my situation.i would like to know why i was not notified of this recall before my car stalled and put me and my family at great risk.
Owners may contact volvo at 1-800-458-1552.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

My regularly serviced volvo wagon's "service engine" light came on.like a good customer, took it to the dealership.they determined it to be a defect in the leak detection problem.soaked me for over $500 for the repair, which they started without my permission.the car only has 50,770 miles on it and is a 2004, purchase in jan. My 2004 volvo v70 wagon spewed and spit gas when being filled with gasoline.when the automatic shut off from the gas pump engaged, gas from the tank and the filler line gushed and poured out of the tank.this happened on several occasions including the very first time ifilled the vehicle with gas.it also occurred when i attempted to fill the gas tank slowly so that pressure would not eject gasoline from the tank.the car was brought to the dealer where it was purchased (smith co. The dealer discovered a new gas tank had not been properly installed by the service technician.i am interested in nhtsa investigating if the repeated failures of my fuel system are related.i am further interested in nhtsa determining if other 2004 volvos with similar fuel system components could have also left the factory without a completely assembled fuel system.i encountered a very serious safety problem that could have resulted in a catastrophic accident.

On/off check engine light warning on my v70 volvo 2004. I had 1 incident of stalling without any warning. Luckily it was night time and no accident occured.i had it diagnosed at local volvo dealership service department and it turned to be faulty fuel pressure sensor. I did my research over the web and there was a voluntary recall made by volvo dated 25may of 2007.i fall on every category but wheni went to the dealership with this information, i was told that my car is not on any recall list. It's not free for me to have it fix which i believed contradictory to the recall memo.

I purchased a used vehicle the old owner said there was a recall. The check engine light goes on and off. I contacted the volvo dealer he ran vin but no recall for this car.
Strong smell of gas after parking car. Both sides by rear tires.

My control arm on the front right is coming loose and is giving less control in turning, also my car is having issues with the fuel pump. All of these problems are demonstrated while under motion on any terrain and the fuel problem is observed more during acceleration.

I have had two volvo v70 station wagons.both of them have exhibited the following-when filling at certain gas stations (sunoco most recently)the gas pump will not shut off automatically before fuel comes pouring out of the filler.i believe it is a fuel filler problem in the car, not in the pump, because i do not have this problem with any of our other cars.i believe it is either an issue of the car's fuel filler tube shape, or dimensions.dangerous!approx 1 full cup of gas.

Car was damaged going over a speed bump (on public rd) at about 5 mph. There is a recall in europe to fix this problem (by removing a bracket that produced below the card and can be forced upwards damaging the exhaust and driveshaft. The recall has not been made in usaplease see this weblink (that has a copy of the european recall notice)http://www.swededemon.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=385&highlight=p+n+30647428i have copied some text from the recall below (it has pictures on the site which explains the situation well)issued for r vehicles but goes for all p2x awd models. Dated january 2004. Description, there have been reports about the fact that s60r and v70r vehicles can be damaged at the under side of the vehicle when driving over speed bumps. This is caused by a bracket (p/n 30647428) (see attachment) which is mounted under the vehicle. The bracket is only used for production purpose to keep the exhaust system in place and serves no other function. Because of the lower ride height of the r vehicles the bracket can touch the ground in extreme situations. When the bracket touches the ground it can bend (see attachment image) and subsequently damage the exhaust system and the drive shaft (cardan). Product changes, investigating if product can be changed in production. Part return, no technical report, no service, volvo advises to remove the bracket when present on r vehicles during service. This to prevent future damage. Remark, these brackets are present under all p2x awd vehicles. If there is a concern for problems the bracket can be removed without consequences.

While driving with my 2 year old...i smelled what i thought was my engine overheating, pulled over to take a look and as opened my drivers side door smoke was billowing out of my seat, melting a hole through to the left side of seat bottom, near backrest and seat adjustment buttons. Luckily, after turning the seat heater off the electrical malfunction cooled off. I went to local volve dealership and they said "your car is too old to have a valid recall status", nor did they offer to assist in any way.
Front driver's seat was burned through by the seat heater.
The contact owns a 2004 volvo v70. The contact began to smell a faint burning odor from the vehicle. The contact inspected and noticed that the driver seat was smoking. The contact turned the seat heater off and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where she was told that the seat heater was not burnt and that something under the seat must have caused the fire. The current and failure mileages were 105,000.
On sunday, 24 january 2009, the heating element in the driver's seat in our 2004 volvo v70 somehow shorted and/or otherwise overheated, causing the seat to begin to smolder and smoke and burned small holes in the side of the leather seat cover.after the heating element was turned off, the materials in the seat appear to have been sufficiently fire retardant to keep the seat from a full-scale conflagration. We had been smelling an unexplained odor for a couple of days prior, which we now believe to have been when the overheating started.to the best of my knowledge there has never been anything done to the seat, and it is essentially if not precisely in the same state as it came from the factory in 2004.the local volvo dealer (don beyer volvo, falls church, va) on monday, 25 january 2009, found that the heating element was the problem, they disconnected the heating element to preclude a fire, said that this was the first they had heard of a problem of this type, and said that the repair (parts and labor) would be covered under our warranty (less deductible). We later on 25 january were told that the repair parts are on back-order and are expected within 7-10 days.
2004 volvo v70 wagon - the driver seat caught fire using the seat warmers (the temperature was in the single digits).
I was at our automotive shop and had to give a customer a ride to work. I had the seat warmers on because it was cold outside. About a minute into the drive, i feel a burning sensation on my left outer thigh. I thought nothing of it. The burning sensation got worse, i stated, "something's burning me!" the customer states she smells something burning, like wires. I pull over, hop out of the car to notice a burn hole in my seat. Luckily, i did not get severely burnt, however, my thigh was sore for about 4 hours. After this happened, i went online to see if there was a recall on the seat. There was not. After googling this situation, i found that my 04 volvo v70 wasn't the only vehicle that has had this issue. Many, many people with the same year, make, and model have had this same issue.
Heated seats malfunctioned and caught seat on fire.

In the summer of 2004 i thought i felt my brakes freeze up, but just thought it was me, thinking "i'm in a year old volvo, there's no way that could have happened."a few months later it did happen and i took it to the dealership where they replaced the master cylinder.that was 11/19/04.on 2/28/05 i returned the vehicle to the dealership again for the same problem.this time they replaced the master cylinder and booster.then, the end of april i was getting on the highway going about 50 mph, and had to apply my brakes, and they froze up and i glided for a few seconds before they released and i was able to push down on them (this is what happened the other times.). Volvo again replaced the mater cylinder and booster (and they told me they replaced another part that had to do with the pumping mechanism (?) "just in case."the car made it 4 1/2 months before it happened again.i was getting onto a highway 9/9/05, going about 60-70 mph, when the car in front of me applied his brakes.i applied mine, and for a split second they froze.i accelerated again almost immediatelyand then had to slow again.this time the brakes froze for about 3-4 seconds before they released and i was able to slow down.it is in the shop now and volvo assures me that this hasn't happened in a new car before.my question is:can they recall something they can't even fix???
2000 v70xcaw cross country wagon etm system failed.the ac hose compressor condenser was replaced. The vehicle was leaking gas and the o-ring seal on the pump sender was replaced.the front passenger window was inoperable when trying to use the master controls. The dealer replaced the module switch. The engine would whine at highway speeds while accelerating. The battery, oil pan, upper torque mount, angle gear, rotors, fuel pump, fuel tank, fuel seal and struts were all replaced. The cv boot was leaking. The turbo charger was replaced because of an oil leak.
Took car to dealer on march 18, 2009,after noticing a bumping when traveling down the highway.dealer advised me steering was leaky and replaced line in the hose fp no. 30776291 (pipe set) this did not solve the problem. (invoice $368.93) on may 13, 2009, returned car to dealer - theleak still there.dealer replaced - shaft seal leaking on rack fp no. 36002364-2 and fp no. 30741950-7 (invoice $1425.96). *dt
Problems with vehicle pulling to the right while driving. *mr the problem was so-called corrected, but the front end alignment problem returned.the vehicle had been to the dealer 4-5 times to correct the steering safety issue.on the last visit, the left front mcpherson strut spring was changed. *sc
My control arm on the front right is coming loose and is giving less control in turning, also my car is having issues with the fuel pump. All of these problems are demonstrated while under motion on any terrain and the fuel problem is observed more during acceleration.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo v70. While driving at 45 mph, the vehicle decelerated and came to a complete stop. The contact mentioned that the steering wheel was difficult to steer and the engine light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart. The failure recurred six times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pressure sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 07v226000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000. The contact owns 2004 volvo v70. While driving 5 mph out of driveway the contact heard a clunk and the vehicle stopped. A bolt came apart from the control arm. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop and it was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60000.the current mileage was 66000. Updated 06/02/10. *ljthe control arm was partially disconnected from the vehicle to the point where the bolt. Also, the service engine soon light illuminated. The consumer was told the fuel pressure sensor had failed. The consumer stated he learned of two recalls. However, he was told they did not apply to his vin. The consumer referenced both recalls; 04v029000 and07v226000.updated 07/08/10.
While driving at any speedsteering was very loose at times. Dealer stated front right tie rodwore out completely.
Volvo v70---we removed the handholds from above the driver and front seat passenger.my wife, ellen, suffered a concussion when her head struck the handhold above her as she was driving and the car was hit in the front.no airbags deployed. I found myself bumping my head against these handholds even while driving.these handholds obviously intrude into the headspace of the automobile. I am surprised that volvo would use such iron-hard handholds without padding or without a collapsing or folding mechanism.

The nut securing the front control arm to the spindle may lose its initial axial tension which could cause the steering wheel to go out of alignment.*ph it also leads to a potential front end noise.consumer received recall regarding the nut; however, as consumer called dealer and said that they can perform repairs as per agreement with nhtsa.consumer is just asking to get the nut and let a local mechanic perform the replacement.*la
We recently heard a loud "growl" coming from the left rear wheel.the noise grew from a slight whine to a moderate growl as we headed home, a journey of ~700 miles.the shop replacing the bearing stated they had had a huge increase in volvo awd rear bearings of late.models from '02 through 07 with mileage of 40-90,000 being abnormally affected.had the bearing been allowed to get worse, there could have been deaths.ever seen a wheel fall off at 60 mph?
Vehicle warning light for airbag is alarming since my airbag didn't deploy in my 2017 car accident when my car was hit from rear, front and driver side.car was total.seat beat and airbag failure in vehicle during accident while moving.this vehicle had a small tap accident but airbag warning light continues to appear but airbag didn't deploy..
I had traveled approximately 40 miles at a speedbetween 55 and 70 mph, when the sunroof exploded.i was driving on highway 67near newport arkansas.outside temperature was in the high 90's.nothing around my vehicle at the time of the incident and the sunroof was protruding out with a large hole blown in the glass.
The radiator fan ran consistently although i was driving in the winter coming back from lake tahoe.while driving on the highway a smell of burned rubber started to spread inside the car so i immediately slowed down and parked it on the emergency lane.after opening the hood, a fire came out.the entire fan melted as a result of overheated due to it running nonstop.
Volvo v70 2004 wagon - driving on city streets. Car stalled 3x and lost steering control 2 x. Had it towed to dealer (power volvo, torrance ca) but they could not duplicate problems (all 3 incidents happened within 10 mins of each other when i was driving). Told me the next day the throttle was "sticking" and they would "clean" it. This makes me nervous due to the past throttle problems with volvos, and also because i have a 4 year old child, and am 9 mo. Pregnant. Thought you guys should know!

The glass mirror on the passenger side of the car just fell off and shattered in my driveway.it's as if the adhesive that was holding it on failed.other drivers of my car have reported a similar problem on a forum v70r.com.this seems to be common enough of a problem that aftermarket retailers sell the replacement glass.http://www.ipdusa.com/volvo-v70xc70-2001-2007/exterior/side-mirror-glass/p-127-386-4979/ it seems to me that mirrors are a safety related item and that volvo should be required to repair this issue at their expense.
