I was in a collision that caused significant damage to my car.the air bag(s) did not deploy.i wonder if the air bag had deployed if it would have prevented my head from going forward.

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s70. The contact stated that the driver was traveling 65 mph when the vehicle crashed into a concrete culvert pipe and only the passenger side air bags deployed. The passenger seat however, was not occupied. The contact also stated that black and white smoke emitted from the engine after the crash. The crash caused head injuries to the driver. The police were contacted and a report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure and current mileages were 100,000.

In a high speed head-on collision with a tree (trees), with only a driver occupant in the car, the passenger airbag deployed but the driver airbag did not deploy.i am submitting this complaint for my mother, who was the sole occupant and driver of the car.as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash, my mother has suffered from impaired short-term memory.

Vehicle was involved in a 45mph collision on 9/12/2017. Front driver's side was impacted. The collision was severe enough to cause the front passenger airbag to blow. However, the front driver's side airbag did not blow up, despite the impact happening on the front driver side. A complaint was submitted to volvo on 9/19/2017.a call from (201) 768-7300 was received today 9/20. I forgot to note down her name but she was a volvo representative. She correctly stated that there was no occupant weight sensor in the passenger side and therefore they cannot discriminate when a crash is severe. However, she stated that because i had my seat belt on, the system detected that i was safe and therefore did not blow up the driver airbag. This explanation seemed very bizarre to me as i believe if the crash was severe enough to blow up the passenger airbag, the driver airbag should blow up too, especially since the impact was on the driver side. I was repeatedly told that the system was complicated and therefore would not understand. I found this explanation to be unacceptable.

Head on collision with another vehicle.no airbags deployed, owner struck windshield with head, broke windshield and injured neck.my vehicle was totalled, and the repair shop said something failed w.r.t the airbags.they should have deployed.volvo has inspected the vehicle, but no results yet regarding their findings.

I was involved in a head on collision. The airbag failed to deploy resulting in injuries from hitting steering wheel. Vehicle total loss, broken motor mounts, airbag failure

While driving. The srs light illuminated onthe dashboard. Consumer contacted volvo. Was told by the dealer that warranty, expired, and there was nothing they could do to assist him.

Dt:consumer says that the srs light came on and stayed on. Consumer took vehicle to volvo, and they said itneeded a new air bag. Consumer's vehicle was hit in the rear. Once the vehicle was out of garage the airbag light was on. Consumer took it to another dealer to have it checked; the dealer said that the srs control module had an internal fault. The dealer ordered the needed part, and is now in the process of repairing the problem. Consumer's warranty expired, and consumer must pay for repairs $522.

Consumer had a front end collision, and driver's side air bag did not deploy.driver was slightly injured. Passenger's side air bag did deploy.

Was putting css in vehicle when the seat belt latch broke. Has happened 3 times already. Took vehicle back to dealership & was informed by mechanic the base of css was too large for center belt. Put the css on either side of center & the latch (male) also broke.

Electronic throttle control replaced.problem is starting to recur.damage effects other car systems which may have to be replaced according to dealer.

1. I noticed the problem when i was driving on the highway.the car felt like it was losing power or missing like it was gong to stop running. Fortunately, unlike others, i was not stranded. 2. My 75,000 mile service was due so i took the car in for that and also let the volvo dealer know about the problem.3. They ran diagnostics and determined it to be the electronic throttle module.they replaced the part with a new redesigned part.i do not know if the old part is available.p.s.the dealership called volvo and volvo agreed to pay for the part not the labor, which saved me about $500.that was a good gesture.8jb

1999 volvo s70. Consumer states mechanical problems *tgwthe consumer stated the vehicle would suddenly stall with no warning, usually in rush hour traffic. The consumer was able to restart the vehicle, but often it would go no more than 20-30 mph. Also, some of the lights on the dash would come on and go off. The consumer has taken the vehicle to the dealer at least sixteen times.updated 10/28/10. The vehicle would hesitate upon acceleration. Updated 11/12/10

Ets lights comes on/off. Car continues to break down, last time on interstate. Dealer says doesn't know what's wrong.

I had not driven this car for about a year because i bought a 2008 c70 that i was driving. I decided to start driving this one for the winter. On a rainy morning on my way to work, my windows frosted up inside so bad that i didn't think i was going to make it to work.my defroster failed.i just tried my car again and the defroster seemed to work - only slower- but now my dashboard is showing me a light that says etc.from reading on-line, it sounds like i should have received a recall letter about this.. Needless to say, i did not.is volvo going to take care of this matter - since i never received a recall letter or knew that there was such a problem?

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s70. While traveling 45 mph, the contact noticed that the ets warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact was informed that the computer software needed to be upgraded. The vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The current and the failure mileages were 133,000. Updated 04/11/12 the consumer stated the camshaft seal, idler pulley, tensioner and water pump needed to be replaced.

I purchased a 1999 s70 volvo in march of 1999 i was told that i would get the same warranty as a new car.the dealer had put 5000 miles on the car.after the car was approx. 4 yrs old it started to loose power the speed would drop to zero the car would reduce speed.in 2006 it started to shut down while driving. Each time i had it towed to the dealer. The dealer never spoke to me ref the etm. They would diag. Some other problem.they repaired it on oct. 8, 2008, it shut down again in nov 2008,i took it back and was told that the car was fine.the car shut down again june 19, 2009. Now i am told that it is the etm. O'steen volvo will not honor the warranty.

I purchased my 1999 used s70 in june of 2001.it had approx. 47,000 miles on it.within a week or two the electronic throttle control module had to be replaced due to the loss of speed, etc.within 1 year i had to replace the turbo and the whole engine due to malfunctions.in all, i have spent about $9,000 in repairs to this car due to engine problems.it has been the absolute worst car i have ever owned.it has also had numerous electrical malfunctions since i purchased.

Vehicle has electrical/brake and engine problems. Brake pedal has a clicking noise, and after the third click, brake pedal locks up.also, enginefailed twice. Failure a result of the engine flooding itself, ruining the spark plugs.dealer does not know what the problem is.engine was replaced. Brakes will also occasionally sink into the floor.these problems still exist after being repaired twice. In addition the electrical system has failed several times--the turn signals went out, both headlights have gone out, and the gear shift panel lights have gone out.*ml

Electronic throttle control causes car to stall repeatedly- often in situations where it is unsafe to pull over.

The volvo s70 electronic throttle control is acting up.the car when started idles erratically.

Electronic throttle module had to be replaced due to failure.the warning lights came on and the car repeatedly jerked during driving.dealer assessed situation and had no choice but to replace.

Volvo s70 1999 model, 3 times has stalled while driving..ets will light up on the control panel and immediately the car will no longer move forward.i switch off the ignition and then wait for the light to go off so i can once again drive.this has happened 3 different times and luckily i was not rear-ended while moving over to the shoulder of the road.i reported it to volvo of clear lake who reported nothing wrong with my car.the car computer did have it recorded that a problem had happened with the electronic throttle control system, but after an inspection by volvo, no repair was made to the system. I am frightened to drive in any freeway lane that is not next to a shoulder....i must always be able to pull over at any time. No special event has led/caused this failure.i always take my car into the volvo dealer for the required maintenance and service.

Volvo s70 with acceleration, deceleration and stalling issues. *tgwthe consumer stated the etm was replaced on august 26, 2008 under warranty. Since then, the consumer has experienced acceleration and deceleration problems while driving, forcing her to make repeated trips to the dealer in an effort to identify and resolve the issue. The vehicle has stalled and decelerated on the freeway. The consumer stated the vehicle has been unreliable since august 2008.the dealer has been unable to fix the problem. They cleaned the throttle and pulled all the codes, to no avail.

Car began running poorly, stalling on occasion and hesitating to accelerate. Upon servicingthe car, the dealer informed me that the electronic throttle body was bad and needed to be replaced. When i took it to the dealer for replacement, they cleaned it instead. I subsequently returned to have it replaced. The dealer discounted the replacement cost by the amount i had paid for the earlier cleaning.

St: vehicle stalled/died/lost power while driving at 20 mph. Dealer replaced throttle body.

1999 s70 volvo awd. Check engine light and abs light and ets lights displayed.the dealer replaced the etm module 8/3/05 at a cost of $906.75 and the abs module at a cost of $845.46. Both services performed by dealer in winston salem,nc .

Owner of 1999 volvo s 70 t5 multiple throttle body problems cleaned once under warranty, throttlebody failed with wife on busy interstate had to be replaced 7/15/05 out of warranty at cost of $900.00.

(1) no warning (2) car ran only in "limp-home" mode (3) car towed 125 miles to dealer, and etm was replaced; dealer kept old part.

1999 volvo s70 t5, during 2004 car started an idle/surge problem. Took it to dealer who said the mass air flow control regulator needed cleaning. Paid around $200 and car seemed fine for awhile.in jan 2005 the problem returned, but worse. Took it to two different volvo certified mechanics who said there were no codes in computer, they could see there was a problem but had no clue what was causing it, just opinions on a couple of part we could try replacing.in march 05 the vehicle stalled while driving in traffic, restarted and seemed to run fine, aside from the surging. However, surging continued and stalling, in traffic, occurred again two weeks ago.doing my own research, i'm now finding this is a known and dangerous problem with this model vehicle.due to financial restraints at this moment, i cannot afford to replace the electronic throttle control module and so my car mostly sits, being driven only if absolutely necessary. Luckily we have a second vehicle. We purchased our volvo, despite the reputation for pricey maintenance, with faith in volvo's reputation for safety and reliability. A reputation built, in part, by ratings supplied by several consumer reporting agencies, including your own.the manufacturer needs to take responsibility for this defective equipment, and consumer advocacy agencies should see to it that they do.

99 volvo s 70 awd has 100k is surging & stalling. After all research it seem i'm not the only one with this defect. Everyone said the ets . I think my dealer replaced it once under warranty already. Now its doing it again . Very dangerous on the highway. I tried replacing the mass air sensor . But that's not the problem.please look into this problem . I think volvo need to recall this part. Thanks brad.

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s-70 glt.while driving 55 mph the vehicle began to vibrate, the ets indicator illuminated, and the engine completely shut off.the contact waited approximately five minutes before the vehicle restarted, but it still continued to vibrate. The consumer states this event occurred 3-4 times in august 2005.the vehicle was towed to a dealer, who stated the ets module should be replaced.approximately seven years later the vehicle had the same failure.the dealer stated that the software module needed to be updated. The vehicle remains at the dealer.the current and failure mileage were 70,000.update 4/30/07

My cars electronic throttle had to be replaced. This was done under the warranty period but i'm writing to make you aware of this for the benefit of thepeople whose cars systems lasted slightly longer, out of warranty. Volvo knew they had issues with defective throttles and should stand behind their product. These cars are not cheap and owners should not be 'beta' testers for new systems.

We own a 1999 volvo s70. While driving the car it started to surge while at a stop without and foot on the gas pedal at all.while trying to pull out from a stop sign the car had a mind of its own. It did what it wanted too without my controlling it. The gas pedal went up and down all by itself. The car then stalled and would not start and run. A check engine light came on and a ets light came on. Lucky we where not on a major highway and where able to pull over. We had to get a tow truck to bring it home. I called a volvo dealer in our area. After some research on the internet i find out this was a problem in all 99 to 2001 volvo's. A recall had been issued for this problem. The volvo dealer will only upgrade a software issue. If the part { etm} fails they will not replace it. We never had a car that the gas pedal is controlled by this system. After getting out car back from the dealer the same day it did it again. We took the car back and even though the car meets the recall requirements they will not replace it the etm. Now we have a car that is not safe to drive. If this had happened on a interstate we could have been rearended or ran into someone else. Please help.

Hi - in april 2005 i had my car in for service just before the extended warrant expired in may. They mentioned this electrical problem but said it wasn't covered so i didn't do anything since i hadn't noticed a problem. The service mgr said it did not need fixed anytime soon and sent me on my way.in july i noticed that my car kept losing power on the highway (very dangerous i95 in ft lauderdale). I took it in on a thursday for a diagnostic and they came back with a bunch of little things that totaled about $1500. I was thinking about a newer car so i asked if anything was urgent and they said no and sent me on my way again.i stopped back by the dealer the next day because the power windows quit working, they said it wasn't related and i made an appt to come in the following monday to have that fixed ($210).on my way home, the etu light came on. I googled 1999 s70 etu and was overwhelmed by the information on this problem. When i went in on monday i was livid that they had let me go on driving this car without telling me of the possibility of it dying on me in traffic. Also they hid it from me and they were nickel and diming me just like it said they would do in the forums!the sales manager admitted he know about the class action lawsuit, etc. He ran another diagnostic and guess what - the problem with the etu miraculously showed up. They were going to charge me $1800 but did me a favor and knocked it down to $1375.can you help me get my money back - i am angry - i could have been killed.

The check engine light would turn on.the contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer because she did not feel safe driving the vehicle.the dealer advised her that she needed new spark plugs and a new 02 sensor.the engine size and number of cylinders were unknown by the contact.the contact believed that the problemwas related to recall # 06v441000. Updated 02/16/07.

I own a 1999 volvo s70 t5.it stalls unexpectedly and at times wont even start.this is very inconvenient, especially when you have important things to do.i have spent several thousands of dollars trying to have this problem repaired.whenever i bring it in the problem is never diagnosed and i get stuck with some other problem they think could be the problem.i would always end up with the same problem, car stalls out completely and at times wont even start.help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Multiple failures of the ecm caused the vehicle to stall, lose power, operate erratically and create unsafe operating conditions while in traffic.the "ets" and "check engine" lights came on with this problem.stopping and restarting multiple times was the only way to get the car to operate and it was a hit or miss solution.

This is the second submission (part two, actually) of complaint # 10137311, regarding volvo throttle control module and cruise control.i had to divide the description into two sections due to space limitations.part two of odi # 10137311:may 2004 (45,000 mile service) -car idling roughly, not accelerating smoothly, and clunking sound when accelerating.upper engine torque mount.clunking noise disappeared.car seemed to accelerate more normally after servicing.summer 2004- car cutting off when accelerating after turning and warning light(s) on.cruise control continues cutting off, causing deceleration; car continues to idle roughly and accelerate un-smoothly.when it is time for engine to automatically be given a little more gas (such as going up a hill), the cruise control shuts off and the "abs" light comes on.sometimes "check engine" light comes on, either alone or in addition to the abs warning light. September 20, 2005--warranty expired--67,500 mile service- again reported cruise control/warning light problem to dealership, supposedly need new control module, costing $1,000.problem was reported repeatedly while car under warranty; don't repair at my expense because problem developed while under warranty. Using cell phone while conversing with dealership.woman in same store overheard conversation, told me of similar problems with sudden deceleration, and gave me your url.[xxx]. Vin [xxx] (1999 s70)throttle control not yet replaced.updated 07/18/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Regarding volvo throttle control july 2001-purchased 1999 s70 with 22,600 miles; cruise control quit, warning lights lit, car began decelerating.dealership said check gas cap securely-fitting.after restarting, cruise control worked and warning lights off.30,000 mile service- told again to check gas cap whenever cruise problem occurred.august 2002-using cruise control, acceleration without reason. Immediately, cruise control quit, car decelerated, warning lights on.normal function with manual acceleration.by this time, i had "learned" to restart car to get warning lights to turn off or to get cruise control to start working.at destination, car wouldn't restart. Tow truck driver jump-started battery.ets warning light still on.wrote to dealership october 28, 2003, regarding ets warning light. At 37,500 mile check-up, i was told car required only normal servicing.when i left dealership, ets light no longer on.later car began idling roughly and didn't accelerate as smoothly.after 37,500 mile service, car operated more as expected.within weeks, again idling roughly and not accelerating properly after turning corners. Dec. 31, 2003 (38,695 miles), volvo towed to dealership because unsafe to drive.when turning, car barely moved forward.also, motor stalling out during acceleration after turning. Noise sounded like it emanated from power steering.power steering rack replaced.after servicing, engine's acceleration better for few months.(did dealership cleaned throttle during service?)rest of this sent in separate description due to space limitations.

While driving speed needle goes back to zero as if you are not movin, show no mileage numbers n miles you have gone or zero trip miles, many lighton breaks, abs ect.all while drivingif stop when time to go car thinks it is in park all this is while in traffichave pic can not down load be glad to send

Dt: the contact stated that1999 volvo s70experienced the same problem with stalling while driving under 40 mph.the engine light was coming on and the car was uncontrollable. The car would shake and jerk, speed ahead and slow down. T the contact tookvehicle to the dealership and they replaced the fuel throttle body, put in new spark plugs, and reprogrammed the computer. The car has since then ran well.the contact stated that this happened a year ago. The repair cost for the contact was almost $1,000.00. The contact has been in touch with volvo dealership, and they told him that they have not heard anything about recall. The volvo manufacturer said that there was an investigation on the car, and to call the nhtsa. The contact has also filed a complaint with volvo.

My 1999 volvo s70 glt was just turned into my local dealer.the electronicthrottle module is the primary suspect.rough idle, stalling, surging at idle, bursts of overly rich fuel mix at idle.intermittent symptoms at idle.runsok at freeway speeds with mild surging.

(1) air conditioner does not work in hot weather (over 100 degree).the car will stall after a few minutes after the air conditioning quits.(2) the car will stall after the air conditioning quite.move transmission into neutral and restart the car.thank god it has worked so far.(3) take the car to walnut creek, ca volvo and they cannot find any problem with the air conditioning.

Sudden engine failure and stalling while driving.

Rough idleets light came oncar died replaced etm.

My 1999 volvo s70 has failed to start after short trips. My wife had mentioned this previously, but two recent incidents made this report necessary.the first incident was on the morning of 11/18/2003.after a 30-minute trip, i shut off the engine and left the car to gather papers for work.i left the car less than 5 minutes.when i triedto restart the car, there were lights in the dash andthe fuel pump primed, but no ignition.there was no clicking, but it seemed that the car had power.car was towed to a volvo dealership for service.they found a weak battery, and replaced it.that apparently fixed the problem, and car was returned to me.the second incident was the following sunday, november23.drove the car to the local hardware store.i shut off engine, got out, and made my purchases.within fifteen minutes, i returned and tried to start the car.dash indicator lights came on, but no clicking.tried to start the car a few times, shifted into neutral to roll the car, still would not start.the car was towed and returned to the dealership.monday morning, tech at the dealership tried and it started immediately.they found no trouble, and asked to return my car.i have refused to accept the car until the trouble, however intermittent, is isolated, diagnosed, and corrected.i am currently driving a loaner car from the dealership.battery replacement does not fix this.may be a "dead spot" in the starter, which could explain why the car would start after some major motion (being towed, etc).may be issues with the charging system, to explain the weak battery in the first incident.could be a greater hazard for others who may be traveling, and find themselves stranded.

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s70.in 2001, the speedometer failed and displayed zero when the vehicle was traveling 10 mph.eventually, the vehicle began to shut off in traffic and while driving between 60-65 mph.the dealer replaced the sensors several times.the contact took the vehicle to a repair shop and the sensors were replaced again.she was unsure about the name of the sensor; however, the failures continued and the vehicle was unable to be restarted.recently, in june of 2009, the vehicle shut off and was towed to the dealer.they stated that the electronic throttle module failed and the battery cable was corroded.the repair cost was estimated at $1,021.the failure mileage was 79,842 and current mileage was 189,000.

Consumer has had problem with vehicle stalling. This is a problem with the throttle module. The consumer was told that eventually the vehicle would shut down.

Ongoing problems since august 2008:engine stalls, decelerates, won't start, sometimes engine surges badly, engine lights go on, throttle gets dirty even with new part etm problems are occurring and now vehicle will not start or drive at all.

Emission system continued to fail. At stop vehiclewould jerkforward.engine checklight would come onand remain. Sometimes vehicle would stall out when moving forward. Would be no warning. Been to dealer 8 times, and was test driven. Vehicle did not stall on mechanic. Owner , deputy sheriff video tape problem. Was repaired under fault codes, but problem still exists.

The car has an electrical system problem.after several days of inactivity the car will not start.according to the dealer a faulty switch in the door allows the battery to drain over extended periods of time.unfortunately for anyone who travels and leaves there car at the airport this is a very dangerous event. The car has failed to start for me on four separate occasions.i have replaced the battery and been to the local volvo dealer.the dealer informed me of the design defect.however i do not know if you are aware of the problem or if there has been a recall.somebody is going to get hurt seeking help when their car fails to start in some lonely dark setting.

Recall 00v405000; consumer took vehicle to dealerfor repairs. However, afterrepairs were performed, vehicle's headlights and turn signal failed. Dealership examined vehicle, and determined that an electrical problem, related toignition, was causingproblem.please provide any additional information/attachments.

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s70. The contact stated that the key was inserted into the ignition and was able to turn in a complete circle causing the steering wheel to seize. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

We have 1999 volvo glt.during routine maintenance our mechanic noted that our electronic throttle modulator (?) needed to be replaced.he said that he has seen this problem on many 1999-2001 volvos.the clue for him was the irregular and high idle of the car.it cost approximately $1000.00 to repair.the car only has 54k miles.

Failed etm, throttle body.no accidents or injuries occurred.dealer said this was a common problem, that they do not know why it is occuring.the part had to be replaced at a cost of $900.part # 8644347.

The first time it happen i was pulling out of my drive way. I came to a stop right outside my driveway waiting for it to be safe for me to pull out in on going traffic i push the gas pedal it gave me enough force to pull out on the street as soon as i try to give it more pick up but kinda idle got up to about 40 i would say bout soon as i hit forty it out of no where it wouldn't let me pick up or press on gas pedal when i would it would slow down so i try to push harder that is when the car died so i quickly pulled up on the side of the road because everything was locking up gas it would not let me accelerate my check engine let flash on and put my flash lights on and sat for a minute trying to figure out what was going on. I waiting a few seconds started the car it first let me accelerate enough to coast but in the drive way. My ets light flashes on but doesn't say on. So i thought maybe cause i was low on gas that could a have been the problem i have drove the car all week not a problem at all. So later that night i figure since the street wouldn't be busy i would drive up put some gas in there to see if that was the problem. Got in the car started right up went to the gasstation which is about 5mins from here pulled up in front of the pump turned off car it was a prepaid pump went inside gave them $8 came back out pump the gas got back into the car went to start it nothing so i wanted i tried again got it started soon as i went to push on the gas pedal it died then i turn the key back and try to start it again my ets light stays on this time but ce light flashes goes offsome guy tries to give me a jumpi push down on the gas it dies. When it died it kinda of sound everything was about to blow up it made a weird sound like a computer as you shut it down. .took it to a car repair 3mths he had it then after trying all the codes -throttle body is what he said the problem.

I have a vovlo 1999 s70 turbo i haven't had no major problems out of it..just normal maintenance until late dec i got in my car started it up it started with now problem back out of my driveway pulled up into ongoing traffic i had drove this car all week no signs of any problem was coming no lights flashing in the car panel so just know that you have to becareful because you can be on the highway and it will not give you no signs as it didn't me luckily i wasn't going as fast as someone on a highway but as soon as i thought i was going to go with the flow of the traffic iam getting up to about 35 out of no where i can not push on the gas pedal to getspeed it was the other way around the more i push onpedal the more it would slow down and idle i was close to another drive way so i just let my car coast in the drive way i couldn't even put on my break cause my car had died so everything kinda locked up so i put it in neutral and let it coast into a park and space . Once i got to a stop i look down and my ets light was on well i just thought maybe it was on because i was low of gas. So i wait later to get gas and that was not the case i put gas in the car and try to start it it started for a quick second i heard it going to die so i quickly put my foot on the gas and it died all together . So please becareful there are no warring signs at all i had no problem earlier that day so if possible try to go in and make sure that you don't have an defect in you ets or etm it could save a life or many life. And keep the roads safe i feel vovlo since they know of these defects should send out letters to owners of the yr that they had many complaints to do a recall in the first place to those that could be affected it was a manufacture recall in my car however i guess since my car was the yr and model and make but it was an turbo they felt no need to be safe and expand the recall.

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s70. While approaching a stop at a low speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 06v441000 (vehicle speed control). The failure mileage was unknown.

Bought the car about one week prior to the first stalling episode and ets light on. Called volvo due to a replacement/extended warranty on affected part. Was told that the part was not replaced and the warranty was no longer covering car (10 years/200000 miles). As a recent purchaser of this car i had no clue of the replacement not previously done or even needed. All was new to me and they refused. Moving forward one year and car stalled in traffic, almost hit from behind, no dash lights and complete failure of etm. Car won't stay running at all, terrified to drive the car home after this incident. No warranty on part, no replacement and now i have $ 4000 boat anchor that will cost a fortune to fix due to no warranty on the part that should have been replaced years ago by volvo.

Warning light, engine ran rough, stalled since april 2004 until january 2005, and dealer repeatedly ran tests and charged me hundreds of dollars for tests and replacing parts that did not fix the problem until january 2005.

In the last month our 1999 s70 volvo has stalled - once when traveling at slow speed and the other accelerating from a stop light. In both instances the car could be restarted.also, the "check engine" indicator illuminates frequently - as it is now - and when taken to the dealer we are advised they can not find anything wrong.

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s70. The contact stated that he heard a loud knocking coming from the engine upon starting the vehicle. The contact began to drive, but the vehicle would not accelerate beyond 25 mph. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 101,000. The vin was unavailable.

At approximately 206,000 miles my car wouldn't drive over 40 mph, the engine would rev up on its own and sputtered throughout the reduced rpm range.rpms would not go over about 3500.check engine light came on.drove it to volvo dealer and they replaced the throttle body at an out of pocket cost to me of approximately $1,000.they stated that it would have been covered up to 200,000 miles as this part had a recall.i do not feel that i was adequately notified of the recall.i received a letter about a recall last year and called the dealer to ask what it all meant since i did not understand it.the dealer said it was just a software upgrade and would only take about five minutes.i took the vehicle in for that software upgrade in march of 2007 with less than 200,000 miles on the vehicle and they did not say anything about the etm / throttle body issue.it should have been replaced at that time.

1999 volvo s70ets light came on and car stalls . Car isbucking and speeding upcar shuts down all over the road and highways and will not start.

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s70.while driving 55 mph, the vehicle lost power and stalled, but never completely shut off.the failure occurs during acceleration and when starting the vehicle.no other systems of the vehicle were affected and no warning lights illuminated.the dealer was unable to determine the cause of failure.the vin and dealer information were unavailable.the current mileage was 104,736 and failure mileage was 104,000.

The engine throttle control light activated sporadically beginning in july, 2005.i noticed that the car was not performing adequately when going uphill or in severe heat.my husband contacted the volvo dealership in allentown, pa where we purchased the vehicle.he was told that the cost to repair same would be over $800.we decided to pass on this repair due to the cost and thought that another auto service mechanic could perform the repairs at a lesser price.approximately 3 weeks later, the ets light was activated on every occasion that the vehicle was used.since a second mechanic (not affiliated with volvo) stated that he was unable to do the repairs, we decided to contact another vovlo dealership.the repair of the throttle body and etm "reload" was performed by a volvo of fort washtington, pa at a cost of over $800 on august 17, 2005.after reading the number of complaints that nhtsa received on this very same problem and the potential for injury, we decided to have the repair performed.we did contact volvo in rockleigh, nj via email and received an initial response from a mr. John willets requesting information on our vin number and mileage.we supplied said information on the same date (august 10, 2005).we did not hear back from him despite repeated requests via email.we had to pay this expensive repair bill to ensure the safety of our family.

Beginning in april of 2005, the engine on my 1999 volvo s70 had stalled several times.in each instance, it has restarted and operated, however, the stalls are becoming more frequent.i have read or the nhtsa's investigation into this problem, and am concerned about my vehicle's operation and repair costs.

Ongoing problems since august 2008:engine stalls, decelerates, won't start, sometimes engine surges badly, engine lights go on, throttle gets dirty even with new part etm problems are occurring and now vehicle will not start or drive at all.

1999 volvo s70's etm (throttle) had acted up in june/july 2004, paid around $900 in july 2004 to have it fixed. The throttle caused the car to go dead multiple times & strongly rev itself occasionally.this would occur when slowing down or when stopped.i would occasionally have to keep foot on the gas to keep the car from going dead. ***now less than a year and a half after having the problem "fixed" (replaced unit) - the problem is back.the car has gone back to same issues. This problem does not occur slowly, from good performance to bad, it took only one week for it to reccur.

Twice, within 50 metres of the same spot each time, my car has sufferedextreme acceleration whilst i was braking as hard as i could.first time, my mechanic checked all computer diagnostics using two differentcomputer testing devices but there were no fault codes.now, as well as happening twice within 50 metres of the same spot, i was atthe same set of traffic lights, which i do not suspect as being the problem, but also next to a major hospital with an adjacent helipad.my best guess after 57 years in electronics and 40+ in computers is thatsome sort of rf interference is upsetting my vehicle.i know volvo check all accidents involving their cars in sweden and wonder whether they have ever come across my problem.both times the engine screamed its head off although i had no time to worry about the tachometer reading. The noise itself was adequate warning and the lack of braking meant that i had to kill the ignition to recover mine and the vehicles composure. Switching on the ignition again both times, the vehicle once again idled normally and operated as it should.

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s70. The contact stated the vehicle would intermittently stall while driving at various speeds. Upon restart the vehicle would operate as normal. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on numerous occasions; however, they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated the vehicle was taken to various authorized dealers approximately sixteen times for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 90,263.

Consumer stated that while driving and without warning the vehicle will surge forward causing a distraction to the consumer. Dealer notified. Ts

The incident took place as i was driving on the interstate, my coolant light went on and i thought to myself, it must be low, i will pull over at the next town which is 10 minutes away and check the coolant level.at that moment i looked at my temperature gauge and the needle was right in the middle and i assumed the engine temperature was not high or low because there was nothing to indicate otherwise.not more than 5 minutes later, my car lost all power, and in that instance i was forced to pull over to the right side of the road, i stopped the car and as i did this, the car engine started to smoke heavily, everything shut off and i found myself stranded.i have been informed that the engine melted and a new one is $9,700.the service shop let me know there is an issue with the sensor in the coolant tank, if this sensor is not submerged in coolant, your temperature gauge does not work and the needle stays right in the middle. In my case, my volvo guy told me i was completely out of coolant.how this happened in just a 5 minute period of time is a mystery to me, but the more concerning part is if i was completely out of coolant, my engine would start to heat up, my temperature gauge would tell me that my engine was hot, however, when looking at my temperature gauge, it told me my engine temperature was ?normal?. This issue also could be related to the most recent 9/04 volvo recall, however, my particular model is not listed.unfortunately my car is no longer under a warranty.

I own a 1999 volvo s70. On two occasions while driving, the engine, without warning cuts out. With this the power steering goes and make it difficult to steer out of traffic. Both these incidents happened while i was making a left turn across an intersection. Luckily there were no injuries or accident. After the first incident, i took it to my mechanic who told me that it was hard to diagnose as it just happened once. Well it happened again! the first incident happened on may 1, 2005 and the second on july 30, 2005.

My s70 volvo, stalled on freeway a number of times within a one day period, would restart and got it to volvo of escondido ca, had my car for 3 days and i rented ( i am a single mom and cannot afford this or to be without a car) received my car& bill $457.69 to clean the throttle body.on 7/ 18 i returned it to volvo because it began doing it again on several occasions. That time volvo had it for 1 day andsaid there was nothing wrong with my car and to come get it.on july 19th it happened again and they had my car from 7/ 19th - 27th because they could not find a problem. On the 27th, $160for labor and parts.(spark plugs) i refused to pay for labor. My car never ran the same and it seemed to be sluggish.i then returned to working strictly with my own certified volvo mechanic. He has done all of my tune ups, oil changes and minor maintenance. (prior to this stalling problem) last week i heard a horrible and sudden noise and although no lights or warning indicators appeared i took it to him immediately. He has found that it has a crack in the lower block which has now left me with a shell of a car and no engine. My regular mechanic said that he has never seen this on a car as well kept and maintained as mine.he believes it is possible that the faulty stalling problem that is still a mystery to volvo could be the reasoning.i put a lot of time, money and energy out as a result of this car and most importantly risked the lives of my children and myself with this problem.i need to know what the nhtsa is doing to resolve this and has anyone else had a crack lower block as an end result?. I feel volvo should have to replace my engine. Time, loss of work and costs have resulted in a major hardship for me. I cringe at the fact that it could have been such a tragic ending as an accident or death.please let me know what the next step is or how i pursue volvo. Thank you, [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I have had multiple problems with this car:1) engine/throttle system: a) intermittently, the car will not start when the engine is warm, whether from driving or it is a hot day.i had it towed to the volvo dealer from my garage when it had <20k miles and was told that i was not driving it hard enough.they advised that the engine had to be blown out and suggested that i rev-up the engine while the car was in park to clean it out.that did not help.i have had the car serviced multiple times.the problem had gotten so bad, that the car began stalling while i was driving it, particularly, if i stopped for a traffic light or turned a corner.i paid $1,500 in january 2005 to have it repaired again, and now the problem is back.the volvo dealer is useless. B) the engine either leaks or burns oil.i will intermittently hear a clicking noise to find out that all of the oil is gone.the oil light does not come on.i routinely have to add 3-4 quarts of oil.2) safety features: the rearview mirror broke off in my hand and i was told by the dealer that it was a safety feature.when it broke off, it left a metal spike sticking out that would have done far more damage in an accident than the mirror.the child lock on the rear center seat belt failed.i took it to the dealer and was told that i was pulling the belt too tight and it was supposed to have some "give".of course, i know that the child seat is not supposed to wiggle around in the back seat, so i insisted that it be replaced.body: the mechanisms to hold up the trunk lid no longer function.the latch to release the hood has had to be replaced.

In mid-december the car started but ran rough and lacked power. Previous to that it ran fine; since then it has had various intermittent problems related to acceleration. Sometimes the engine runs rough and lacks power. Other times the engine runs fine but the car does not respond to accelerator input to increase speed. Sometimes the car stumbles but accelerates adequately. More often the car will accelerate to about 20 mph and not increase speed beyond that irrespective of accelerator pedal pressure. After a few seconds the car will suddenly accelerate normally. Replacing the throttle body module corrected the problem. This part is subject to a nhtsa agreement with volvo that requires volvo to replace the unit free but the dealer refused to do that and charged me for the repair.

Since owning this vehicle the check engine light has illuminated onnumerous occasions and fault codes for the engine have been entered.i even had the mass air flow sensor replaced during one of these episodes. But during the past 7 months i've had engine problems that have affected the driveability of the vehicle. Periodically, after the engine has been running for 30+ minutes, the vehicle will have problems idling (feels like it will stall) and then black smoke will start emitting from the exhaust.the check engine light does not come on during this process but only when the car is once again running normal. This problem is an intermittent one.the vehicle will run fine for 2 weeks and then suddenly the problem will reappear. Since this problem began, i've had the mass air flow sensor replaced (twice--three times in total since owing this car), o2 sensor replaced (twice), cleaning of intake and throttle plate, throttle body replaced, upgraded software for the electronic throttle control (etc) and spark plug replacement.none of these have fixed the problem.the dealership has had my car for days at a time.they have recently been able to recreate the problem but the computer readings are not showing any problems with the engine components. My car is still at the dealership and the problem still has not been solved.

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s70. The contact stated that intermittently the engine and the csr warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel; then the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to a local repair facility and a mechanic replaced the air mass meter. After the repair, the failure resurfaced. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, in which the technician charged $1065.00 for diagnostic testing; however, the technician was not able to identify the cause of the failure. The failure has not been remedied. The failure mileage was 157000 and the current mileage was 158000.

Vehicle surges after i had the software download recall. They keep telling me it is a dirty throttle body, but it has been cleaned a thousand times. They never replaced my tcm. Just the software. This needs to stop. I feel unsafe in this car. Need a recall.

My volvo 1999 s70 t5 has had problem with oil leaking (or burning) since the second year.my husband heard some strange and louder than normal noise from the engine and he checked the oil and no more oil in the engine.he had to put 3 to 4 quarts of engine oil in.this kind of incident happened at two times when my car was under 50,000 miles and under warranty.we reported to volvo dealer services, they could found any problem the first time.second time they found some problem and fixed it.now at 51700 miles (out of warranty), we have the same problem again.my husband had to put 3 quarts of oil into the engine because there was no more oil left in it.this morning i noticed that the temperature was higher than normal.we called both volvo of irvine, and cerritos of california and they denied that we reported any problem about oil in the past.only volvo of irvine saying that they did fix some problem with oil pump in the past because we complained about engine noise.they did not put it down about the complained of out of oil in the engine.we cannot trust volvo services.poor service and very bad volvo car.*la

Vehicle stalls at any speed, has stalled 3 times.dealer has replacedets system, this has not remedied the problem.

Car hesitates and/or stalls on acceleration for past 20,000 miles.initial diagnosis from volvo dealer showed "no fault codes stored, unable to diagnose."finally, today i stalled while making a turn and almost got broadsided.just after that an ets light came on.i called the dealer and was told "it will cost up to $1000 to replace the part."this is a major safety hazard and to think that volvo knows about this problem (i surfed the internet and found right away that this is a common problem) and let me take the car out with this issue known. (regardless of a fault code stored)

Engine will run like it's flooded. Resulting inloss of power.prior tovehicle shutting down, check engine light came on.the dealer is repairingvehicle again, and has repairedvehicle twice before.manufacturer has been notified.

When making a left turn the vehicle completely shutsdown, causing loss ofcontrol.dealer cannot identify the problem. Please give any further details.

The enhgine will begin to run roughly (as though it is flooded) loses, power and will not accelerate.when this happens, the "ets" and "check engine" lights come on. The owner's manual says to pull over, switch off the ignition and then restart.if the

I purchased a new 1999 s70 volvo from herb gordon volvo in silver spring, mdthe electronic throttle module has been replaced 3 times, still no change. I recently had it replaced.

My 1999 volvo s70 has been stalling on a daily basis for some time now.i stall on my way to work; a seven mile drive.i have tried to get it in for service at a local volvo dealership, but they are "booked up".i have no other means of transportation beside this death trap.i pray all the way to work.today it refused to idle up to a normal speed (35) and stuck somewhere at 15, so i coasted in until it finally stalled in the parking lot.this is a daily occurrence.

Dt: the contact owned a 1999 volvo s70. Contact was complaining about anair-intake problem.had trouble starting the vehicle, and not accelerating while driving. Had car in the repairshop this past week, and they could not find anything wrong with it.however, they cleaned out air intake, butshe continued to have the same problem.also, saw an article at www.nbc4.com under the automotive section.

Car started missing, losing power, ets light cameon, took to dealer replaced egr module ?, cost about $1000 altogether.

Tail pipe exceeds the length ofbumper, causing someone to be burned.please give any further details.

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s70. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration. In addition, all the lighting and warning indicators illuminated. The dealer could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the vehicle speed signal and throttle body control module were defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Right turn signal bulb was replaced. June 2000, both headlights burnt out. July 2000, defective right turn signal, all possibly due to a problem with the bulb/sockets of the lighting system. *cj

1999 volvo s70 -continued rear brake, running light, and turn signal problems.i participated in the original recall campaign (00v405000) to replace the rear turn signal sockets and bulbs.to this day i continue to have problems with the rear turn signals, running lights, and brake lights. I frequently have problems with all of the rear lighting (brake, running, and turn signals).recently, i found both rear turn signal and both rear brake lights were not functioning.i had to bang on the light housings to get the bulbs to make good contact with the sockets. The only relief i have found is to replace all rear bulbs every 3 months.eventhen, i frequently have multiple bulb failures.

While driving the headlights fail to function. The dealership indicated that there was a failure in the headlight switch. There was a recall on this issue 99v235000 but it was for earlier model years.

Dt:the contact stated prior to purchasing the vehicle there wasnhtsa recall campaign 00v405000 concerning the turn signal.the recallrepair work was completed and the vehicle worked properly.then, she receivedrecall04v504000 concerning the headlight switch.the vehicle was takento dealer for the repairs.when she got the vehicle home she tried to turn the headlights on and noticed they did not work.she took the vehicle back to the dealership, and they repaired the headlights.the headlights failed again five days later.the dealershipdeterminedthat the turn signal switch needed to be replacedin order to fix the headlights.she contacted the manufacturer, and they agreed with the dealership.they stated none of the recalls included the turn signal switch, and she would have to pay for the repairs.the vehicle has not been repaired.the contact felt the headlight failure was related to one of the two previous recalls.

While driving at night, i had the headlights switched on.the interior dashboard lights were lit and no warning lights were on.as i drove into a less lighted area, i noticed that my headlights were in fact not lit.i confirmed that the switch was on, which they were.i confirmed that no warning lights were on.later, i had the headlight switch replaced, which fixed this problem.very dangerous problem.my volvo mechanic told me that a defective headlight switch was a common problem.i told him that there was a recall for the 1998 volvo s70, but not the 1999 volvo s70, for this problem.he was amazed because he said that both cars use the same switch.*ph

On 1999 volvo s70, headlights spontaneously went off while driving at night.problem is defective headlight switch, which was recalled on the 1998 and earlier volvo s70s (and model 850s).recall has not been issued for 1999 and later, but failure is identical to the 1998 and earlier models that were recalled.

I was driving normally on a parkway in wash dc. Suddenly the engine lost power and would not go more than 10 mph. I "limped" to a gas station and turned off the engine, inspected for loose wires, or other observable defects. When i started the car again the ets light was on and stayed on. Now the car runs erratically lurching forward or sputtering or just plain losing power at random.

I own a 1999 volvo s70 front wheel drive.the electronic throttle control system (ets)has failed, and i understand that this is a huge problem that volvo does know about.they do nothing about it because of the high repair bill ( $800.00 - $900.00).i am a member of a volvo website, and many, many others on the site know of the problem.the ets fails on the vehicle, and the driver is left unable to control the vehicles speed, and sometimes direction ( if the car quits)when mine failed, i was on the interstate with mycruise control on about 72 mph.i almost completely lost control of the car, was unable to stop the car effectively, and also unable to steer the car easily because the engine went dead.i wish someone would look into this problem, because it is a very dangerous problem.it is about the same as a throttle cable breaking while driving, and the car just going dead.volvo knows about the problem, but refuses to issue a recall for the ets.this is a safety issue.it needs to be recalled.

1999 volvo s70. Mechanical problems started in 2005.the vehicle would suddenly stall with no warning, usually in rush hour traffic. The consumer was able to restart the vehicle, but often it would go no more than 20-30 mph. Also, some of the lights on the dash would come on and go off. The consumer has taken the vehicle to the dealer at least sixteen times.they say they can't duplicate the problem, so they can't fix it.meantime, my car comes to a dead stop on houston streets and freeways with 18-wheelers, trucks, and cars behind it.this a rolling coffin.i am going to get rear-ended and someone is going to be killed.maybe several "someone's".volvo of houston doesn't care.we bought the car there.it has had maintenance service there over the years.these people took our $27,000 and gave us a "killer" car.i am terrified when i have to drive it.since 2005, every time i get in this car i wonder if i will get home alive.i would like for someone at volvo to take this car and let their wife, mother, or daughter drive it.let them worry about getting killed on a houston street.this car has done this at least 20 times, maybe more. I never know if i will get where i am going out and i definitely don't know if i will get homea l i v e! this car is going to get someone killed. This car is going to get someone killed.did i mention that this car is gong to get someone killed??i would like to give this car to a president or vice-president at volvo so they could let their loved ones drive and worry a bout "someone getting killed".i have dealt with volvo since 2005.they don't care.making money by selling cars is all that is important to them.even if the driver gets killed because they don't know how to fix the problem that is going to cause the death.i asked the [xxx],at volvo of houston today if he would like to let his wife, mother, or daughter drive this car.he just looked at me and said nothing.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c.

99 volvo s70 started to buck and hesitate at 60 + mph. I did not feel it was safe to drive since the engine acted like it wanted to cut out entirely. I took vehicle to volvo dealer where they replaced etm, electronic throttle, at a cost of close to $ 1000. Vehicle only had 76000 miles on it.

When the engine is cold. I start the car and it struggles to turn on after a couple of second it idles normally. I think it's a feul dilivery problem but i'm not a mechanic.i've taken the car to service and the problem persist.

This complaint is against volvo america, i own a 1999 volvo s70 with 214,000 miles. Volvo claims that it had a software upgrade for my electronic throttle control module. Volvo had a recall for this item, but it only covered this recall upto 200,000 miles. My volvo never had the part replaced, volvo only did a "software upgrade." the etc is failing and may fail on the freeway, placing my life and the life of other american drivers in danger. Why has volvo got away with failing electronics which will turn the car off on the freeway and will take people's lives. Do something about this.

The car stalled in highway traffic losing partial control of the automobile scared driver and car luckily restarted or could have been major accident - found out throttle body module was to blame. This is one significant example the car often stalled at stop lights and going around corners.

Etslight came onstalling, running rough ect...dealer installed new throttle body (electronic throttle system)cost to correct $1041.00.

Dt:while driving on a freeway, the vehicle surged.it was impossible to control the vehicle.consumer e pulled the vehicle off of the road and called the dealership, they told him to bringthe vehicle inthey replaced the electronic fuel regulator.this occurred in september 22, 2004.this has not happened since, but he consumer wasconcerned it may happen again.there was currently an investigation openregarding this problem, pe05041.

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s70. For a number of months the contact complained to an independent repair shop about the strong smell of gas accumulating overnight in the garage after filling the gas tank to full. The contact was advised it was either the gas cap or the fuel tank. The gas cap was replaced, but there was still no improvement.the contact returned to the repair shop where the problem was identified as failed seals on the metal fuel linesentering and exiting the lidof the fuel pump installed on top of the fuel tank under the trunk. The adhesive or sealant that secured the metal in the line and metal out line to the filters plastic lid had cracked and gas vapors and gasoline leaked out of the cracks. The fuel pump was replaced.the failure and current mileages were 170,750. Updated 03/15/11

Purchased used car 1 week ago. 87,000 mi.no problems, ets light came on. Yellow light, not red = not an emergency.got home safely, no odd behavior, and read about it in manual, which said to take to dealership, very vague description.went to start car, smelled gas, rough idling revving 1,000 rpms while parked - i wasn't even touching the pedal, blinking headlights a.k.a intermittent power.if this occurred on the road, i cannot predict what could have happened. Read same complaints online...expensive to replace etm unit, continued failure, no recall or warranty coverage. I do see a recall on 11/14/2006 but i'm unsure if this is the same problem.

My throttle is defective on my 1999 volvo s70.the car idles too low and will die at a stop.my mechanic informed me only volvo can repair this.

Service engine light came on. Computer check at shop specializing in volvos showed throttle body was defective. It required replacement. Our service shop estimates they have had to replace approximately 75 of these.

Smell of gas, checked under hood gas leak at fuel rail, defective end cap on fuel rail cause of leak replaced fuel rail with new improved fuel rail from dealer, original fuel rail defective could cause fire. Old part is available.

I have a 1999 volvo s70 that i brought in to a volvo repair shop for a 105,000 mile check up (mostly for the replacement of the timing belt).the car was otherwise working fine.following replacement of the timing belt, tensioner, oil change, lube, etc. (all the things in the standard 105,000 mile check-up), the car would no longer idle.the shop identified the problem as the electronic throttle module.it remains unclear why it failed as part of a routine check-up.the part was replaced and the replacement part also failed to work (it wouldn't accept the software).the second replacement throttle module did work and the car is now working.the cost of this repair, however, was $902.00--$551.50 for the part alone.the repair shop specializes in volvos and indicated that this was a frequent problem, currently under investigation by your office(ntsb action # pe05041).i wanted to add my experience to your complaint file.this can be verified through the repair shop, randall automotive inc., 1720 washington ave. Volvo 1999 v70 electronic throttle control failure.intermittently really rough idle, no power, totally unreliable transportation.this is bringing the engine management light on and eventually putting car in limp home mode.if this car ever failed in heavy, high-speed traffic, there would be a major catastrophe with possible loss of life.there are numerous instances of this failure recorded in internet chat rooms.volvo is apparently aware of this problem, but does nothing to solve it.

Etm issue car stopped accelerating ended up having to pull off the road.etm may act normal or go into limp home mode at any moment sometimes you can drive all day n problems other days you can't go anywhere.when affected rpms will not exceed 2500 and top speed seems to be about 20 mph.

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s-70. While refueling the vehicle the contact noticed a strong, overpowering gasoline fuel odor. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic advised the contact that there was a fuel leak at the top of fuel tank. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

Power door locks, when you lock the door, you can still open it from the outside. Somebody can come right up to your door while you are driving or parked, and open the door even when it is locked. 3 of my 4 doors do this. I have to keep replacing them at $140.00 a piece.

Yesterday i parked my 1999 volvo in a store parking lot, and when i pulled the driver's side door handle to open the door it did not work.i was also unable to open the door manually with a key.while this did not result in a death, it is certainly a safety issue and could potentially have been very serious.it cost me over $500 to have the lock fixed; in response to my husband's question as to what precisely caused the problem, the automotive tech's explanation was "lock failure."i called volvo to register a complaint, and was dismissed with "the car is out of warranty and it isn't volvo's responsibility."i contend that under no circumstances should someone be unable to exit a vehicle due to "lock" failure.if electronics fail, the door should be able to be opened manually with a key.had a fire or accident occurred and i needed to exit the vehicle quickly, i would have been trapped.this is unconscionable.

I purchased a new 1999 volvo s70 glt sedan.about six months ago i noticed that the hood was not closing.upon examination i discovered that both hood latches were failing because of metal fatigue.at this point one latch has fallen off completely and the other is so weakened it will not hold the hood.i am currently holding the hood down with a bungie cord.failure of the hood latches could lead to a dangerous situation if a hood flies up at high speed.

My 1999 s70 with approximately 92,000 has the following issues:- sometimes the engines start shaking?- hard to brake- no power even if you pedal is at the max- cruise control stop workingmy car has a malfunction with the electronic throttle module and i have been to the deal to get the software upgrade. Since the upgrade my check engine light came on and have had to replace my front 02 sensor.now the car is undriveable because it will not go more than 20mph with the gas pedal floored.volvo will not repair this know issue because the car is 10 1/2 years old.they state if the car was less than 10years old or under 200k in mileage they would repair it.this is not fair.they could have replaced this etm when i came for the software upgrade but they did not.

While the vehicle was parked in the driveway the three year old child was able to shift the vehicle out of park. Vehicle was not running, and therewas no key in the ignition switch. While the vehicle commenced to roll down the driveway consumer tried to stop the vehicle. Driver's door knocked the consumer down, and the child fell out of the vehicle. It continued to roll until it hit against the curb. Bothdriver and child sustained injuries, and were transported to a local hospital. Vehicle was not inspected at this time.

Dt*:the contact stated the clutch does not always engage and the vehicle accelerates and decelerates on its own.the vehicle has been taken to the dealership, but there are no codes on the computer.

The consumer had difficulty controlling the vehicle because of a failure with the rear end and rear tires. The problemworsened when acceleratingand decelerating. There's was also a nauseating tar like smell within the cabin of the vehicle. The dealership indicated the transfer case had shredded which caused an oil leak.the part couldn't be replaced for almost three weeks due to a nationwide back order. After 3 and a half weeks the transfer case was replaced.within 48 miles the vehicle began to exhibit symptom of the previous failure.the vehicle was taken to a different dealer.the technician indicated that both failures were secondary to the tire dealer putting an incorrect tire size on the front passenger side of the vehicle.this caused the vehicle to register that the tire was constantly slipping.*nlm

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s70.the front driver side seat belt has a metal piece inside the buckle that failed.the failure prevents the seat belt from fastening.the dealer was unable to assist.the vin, engine size, and number of cylinders were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 99,000.

Towed to dealer, and subsequently fixed/replaced sensor. Have had additional electricalproblems.there were no warning lights or sound or smells.

Dashboard began making very loud noises.dealership informed me that the dash has come loose from the firewall.dealership informed me that this is very common in the 1997 and 1998 models.dealership said that i need a new dashboard because the clips holding it are broken.volvo is well aware of this defect and stated that if the dash had come loose from the firewall during the first 4 years or 50000 miles it would have been covered under warranty.the extended warranty does not cover structural defects or design flaws.with this being a common problem i think that volvo should stand behind its cars and offer to replace the defective part.i am assuming that if i do not have this very costly repair done the dash will eventually separate from the firewall completely and fall off.i am sure that this dashboard will not provide any protection in the event of a head on collision.my volvo was not built for safety, but for profit using defective designs and parts.

Failure of weld of left front (driver) door check - separated from frame of car.second occurrence in 9 years

Driver's door had bad popping sound.it was determined that the volvo s70 door noise was typical, and always due to failure of hinge welding.dealer said take it to auto body repair.body repair shop indicated he performed this type of job thousands of times.cost: $250.

The hinge on the drivers side door makes a horrible popping noise when i open or close the door and i have been told that this is a problem that the mechanic has seen on this model volvo before.

Consumer heard a grinding sound coming from the driver's door.several days later consumer was having problems getting in and out of the vehicle.vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the consumer that the door needed rewelding, and the rewelding was done by the dealer.

Driver's side vehicle door has defective door hinges.makes a loud poping noise when opened and closed.taken to car dealer, and was told not a warranty item. Vehicle is being driven under unsafe condition due to factory defect.

After taking my car in for a scheduled 45000 mile service in september 2001, i noticed that the driver door was making a popping noise.i thought that the door had simply not been lubed.when i took my vehicle in for the next service in january 2002, i specified that the door was popping and to make sure it was lubed.i was assured that it would be lubed.when i picked up my vehicle it was still making the popping noise. Within a week it was making a horrible noise.i called and was told that the door hinge had most likely broken away from the frame of the vehicle and would have to be re-welded.i was told that this was something they had seen previously on this model and others, and that it was not due to wear or tear on the car.i believe this to be a defect in the assembly of the car.i do not know if a safety issue exists with regard to exiting the car following a collision, or with the door's structural integrity during a collision.

Driver's side door makes loud popping noises when opened, closed. Middle door hinge (larger ones above and below; located justbelow wiring harness) has broken away from frame of car body because of faulty welding. Originally, i thought noise was "squeaky" door hinge and lubricated the hinge with silicone spray. But when the noise got worse instead of better i took a closer look and found that the body frame hinge has broken at the point where it was welded.i have never seen anything like this in 40-plus years of car ownership.i haven't repaired it yet but assume it will have to be rewelded, based on info i have found on the internet posted by others with similar problem with this manufacturer.

Volvo s70 with acceleration, deceleration and stalling issues. *tgwthe consumer stated the etm was replaced on august 26, 2008 under warranty. My car is a volvo s70 1999 2.5l non-turbo engine.i started experiencing uneven engine idle in may of 2001, at first i feared that my engine would just die out.a few times the engine really did just stop working as i was slowing down.i've had a volvo dealer/servicein long island ny take a look at the problem and they simply "cleaned" the electronic throttle.the cleaning solution did not last long and after a week or so i started noticing the uneven engine idle again.after having the engine just go kaput a few more times, i took the car to an independant mechanic and they performed a cleaning but says that most likely i will have to replace the etm.now it is 2006 and our volvo is less driven but still in the family.we still experience the same problems with the engine.i am glad to hear that volvo of america is finally stepping up and at least trying to remedy the problem by extending the warranty.but this is an issue that caused me and my family many scary moments and put us in dangerous situations.i hope posting my complaint here today will help others.

Consumer also contacted the manufacturer, and was toldthat there was nothing they could do, and it was a normal expensefor consumerto pay.the consumer believes the part should be recalled.

Dt: the vehicle stalled/died, an lost power due to throttle body failure.the throttle module was replaced, however the problem recurred.

I first noticed my vehicle experiencing shakiness and slight stiffness in the steering wheel. Pat patterson volvo, told me i needed some sort of air nipple replaced. I replaced it, paying better than $100. I was in the middle of a busy intersection making a left turn when it suddenly quit! it restarted. I took the car back to the dealership after it suddenly failed on several more occasions.the dealership said it was either an air intake problem they could fix for $300 or the etm (explained this was a throttle and costs $800 needs replacing) or might need both replaced costing $1100.they had to order the parts and would call me when they arrived.the next morning my check engine light came on when i started the car.i drove it back to the dealership.they told me the same thing i was told the day before.while waiting for the parts to arrive, my nephew was shot to death. With the sudden tragic loss of my 18 year old nephew, i went back to the dealership and settled for the $300 job; my financial resources after the unexpected travel expenses to the funeral, arejust depleted; this car is not under warranty. That was only a few weeks ago in july. Yesterday (8/14/05) the car suddenly quit twice, and the check engine light is on again!i have not financially recovered from the funeral and repair expenses of last month!while i was in the waiting room, an older woman who was experiencing the same problem, said hers quit several times while traveling at 70 mph without warning! i heard on the news about 131 complaints about this problem. I was told by pat patterson volvo on at least 4 visits relating to this problem that the car has an air intake problem and needs the etm replaced. They never mentioned this is a problem with these vehicles. I might not have known they were experiencing this problem with more than just mine had i not talked with the lady in the waiting room while our cars were being repaired.

The vehicle made a roaring sound followed by check the engine and ets lights when starting, and accelerated on its own while the driver was backing out of parking. The incident occured again after repair was done. Yh

1999 volvo s70 ets light coming on due to faulty manufacturing of the electronic throttle module. This is hapening on thousands of volvos and causes unsafe driving conditions due to the accelerator not working properly and causes the car to stall intermittently. Volvo will not take responsibility and charges for the repair.

The electronic throttle module is defective. Driver losesengine control with out warning. Car usually limps home at less than 20 mph. Problem corrects it's self after sitting then the episode repeats with out warning. It appears this defect may potentially affect all volvos with this module. Dealer accepts no responsibility.

The volvo s70 electronic throttle control is acting up.the car when started idles erratically.

On november 17, 2006 my wife was backing her 1999 volvo s70 out of our driveway. She stated that the car suddenly accelerated backwards, shot across the street and slid into our neighbor's landscaping/bushes etc. She was able to turn the car so that the left side of her car swiped the bushes and hedges. Result--no personal injuries, thank goodness. Over $6000 in damage to the car which was towed to paul's volvo in hawthorne, nj from which it was forwarded to j&j auto body in haledon nj.

Vehicle fails to maintain idle.it starts and immeditely dies.it occassionally dies while driving on highway or while breaking and preparing for a stop...typically when my foot isn't on the accelerator.

Car is stalling while driving.electronic throttle body light comes on. Approximately 80,000 miles, however this car has been experiencing same problem on and off since we acquired it at 47,000 miles.repair shops are telling us that the replacement cost is between $900 and $1,200, however after reading up on the subject this doesn't guarantee that subsequent replacement parts will not have the same problem.have asked volvo for their recommendation as to how to proceed.wanted to record this in your database since we are having the same problem mentioned in pe05041.

On september 9, 2007 the driver was driving her 1999 volvo s70 south on route 15 in pennsylvania.i was in the front passenger seat.the driver turned right into a short access drive to a restaurant.the driver then turned right into the parking lot, slowed further, driving about 40 feet, and turned left into a parking space directly perpendicular to the store?s front entrance.she had come to a slow and almost complete stop when the car suddenly and uncontrollably lurched forward, over the parking block.the car then lurched forward further, on the parking lot surface, up and over the parking lot curb to the store level and crashed into the store?s vestibule.the car hit a support beam, and badly damaged the store?s entrance. The driver put the car in reverse.it lurched uncontrollably backward at a fast rate of speed through the parking lot and up and over a concrete apron directly behind her parking space.it then swerved wildly in reverse along and against the parking lot curb that paralleled route 15.the car violently hit a perpendicular curb, swerved and stopped as the front wheel on the passenger?s side crashed into the curb.the impact broke the right front wheel from its axle. We removed our seat belts and immediately got out of the car. The airbags never deployed. The driver and i both had been shaken badly in the interior of the car as it hit the parking blocks, concrete apron, and curbs. This lunging incident seems to have been caused by the recognized failure of the electronic throttle module of the car.witnesses said that the car was traveling uncontrollably at about 40 miles per hour through the parking lot as though the car?s accelerator were stuck.pennsylvania state police made an incident report.volvo inspected the car claiming nothing mechanical caused the incident.

1) i was driving alone along state highway 283 in pa, which is a 4 lane (2 each direction) highway in a rural area with a posted speed limit of 65, between lancaster and harrisburg.most traffic was trucks (tracter trailers).2) the car (volvo s70 awd), travelling smoothly on cruise control at about the speed limit, suddenly lost power.engine was still running, but at a much lower rpm, and running badly.fortunately i was in the far right lane.i pulled off the road almost immediately to avoid being hit by the truck behind me.i noticed the ets yellow warning light was on.the vehicle seemed able to operate, albeit roughly, at about 30-35mph. Being in a rural area, i drove in this off the highway lane up to the next exit.i took the ramp off the highway, got to the top of the ramp, and the car seemed to be reasonable.being in a rural area with nowhere seen for reparirs, i accelerated down the ramp to the highway, with the car seeming a bit sluggish, but otherwise ok. Then it lost power again at the bottom of the exit ramp.i pulled over, to the sound of the horn of another truck which was behind me.i shut off the car; waited a few seconds; and restarted the car.it ran much better, but the ets light was still on.after pulling back onto the highway, everything was ok for awhile, but i ran into problems when i hit some slowing traffic.when i tried to accelerate from the slowdown the car did not respond.it was as if i hadn't just pressed the pedal.i nursed it to a volvo dealership as soon as possible that day.3) the throttle body was replaced after dealership first performed a diagnostic on the engine.the diagnostic showed 5 line items for the "throttle unit, internal fault..."i have a copy of the print out of this report.i have driven the car about 150 highway miles since the repar.the problem has not been observed during this time.

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s70.the contact received recall # 06v441000concerning vehicle speed control ondecember 28, 2006.the dealer would not honor the recall until someone could authorize the payment.the vehicledid nothave any failures.the current mileage is 88,000,and failure mileage was unknown.the consumer stated that the dealer in bend, oregon will not schedule an appointment for recall due to the fact the manufacturer is refusing to pay them. Dt*:the contact stated the clutch does not always engage and the vehicle accelerates and decelerates on its own.the vehicle has been taken to the dealership, but there are no codes on the computer.

Dt: the contact stated that the throttle body linkagemalfunctioned. The vehicle had a very poor idle, and the engine stalled. The engine has never completely died.he took the vehicle to a dealer, who replaced the throttle body.this corrected the problem for approximately 6-8 months.this problem recurred.the repairs has not been made due to the expense. The contact owns a 1999 volvo s70. The contact was driving 55 mph when the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the engine and throttle warning lights. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where it was confirmed that the throttle valve system needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that the vehicle qualified for repairs under nhtsa campaign id number: 06v441000(vehicle speed control) but the recall was expired. Consumer volvo v 70 stalls while in traffic.***nar***the vehicle also suddenly accelerated and decelerated intermittently while driving. [letter in repository this voq, x ref voq 10156335, smch]

My engine started to shake and just came to a complete stop, as a result of a failure of my volvo's throttle control system.

The electronic throttle body has been replaced twice. Once at 112000 and the other at 125000. The second time it failed, i was pulling into traffic and the car started 'lurching' forward. I pulled over and restarted the car to fix, but the ets light was on. It was fixed under volvo warranty from the first time which cost me $1200. This is also a safety issue as i was lucky that it happened when pulling into traffic and not merging onto hwy or interstate.

Volvo throttle control module failure.this causes the car to race, idle incorrectly and ultimately stop while driving.dealerships even say that the original module was not designed correctly and that volvo should pay for the $850.00 it costs to replace.please help. This is a big problem that thousands have and or will have.it is a very dangerous problem when the car just stops running in the middle of the highway with no power and will not restart. My volvo s70 only has 48,000 miles and many others are having the same problem. Thank you.

Vehicle speed control: vehicle engine dies for non reason while under way. Vehicle restarts immediately. No error code set in computer.

1999 s70 volvo.dec. 2002 replaced etm with software upgrade due to car going into limp modes twice.jan. 2007 recall notice to upgrade software on 2nd etm.etm warranty by volvo will expire on my car nov. 2008.i feel warranty should be lifetime since etm will certainly fail again as part was not redesigned from original 1999 part.

Dt:1999 volvo s70.the consumer stated there wasan investigation open for the vehicle speed control.the electronic throttle control had to be replaced although the vehicle did not stall.this happened approximately march 26, 2004.the check engine lightcame on, but vehicle seemed to be running fine.when the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, they stated it was because of the electronic throttle control.the consumer paid for the replacement.this only happenedonce.

Dt: the contact statedthe electrical throttle module ( etm) failed. While driving the vehiclelostpower.prior to this incident the vehicle hesitated while driving at lower speeds.there were no warning lights, indicating a problem with the vehicle.the dealer replaced the etm.this replacement seemed to have corrected the problem.

Dt:caller was told about the volvo investigation. She , had the problem at least 4 times. The vehicle stalled and then a month later,it stalled twice in one day. Dealer said the first time might not been enough to make the warning light come on, but now that it happened again the warning lightcame on. Manufacturer said the dealer needed to look at it, and check the throttle body. It was a recall and l she could be reimbursed. Caller said it happened when she was taking off or slowing down at low speeds.

I own a 99 volvo s70. The ets light has been coming on regularly. The info in the owners manual just says to turn the car off and then turn it on again and see if the light goes away. It has in the past but it's coming on all the time now. I looked on" edmunds" to see if there was a recall.. And there was nothing there.. But then i saw a volvo owners forum and there were lots of emails about this problem. They said it was pretty dangerous because your throttle just stops working. We commute to boston everyday ( my husband does not get out of work until after 10:00pm ).. And it's very dangerous as it is.. But to think about losing the throttle scares the heck out of me. I can't imagine that happening at midnight on route 128. It would be suicide. I was unable to find recall.. But a mechanic around here told me the cost to repair is about 850.00!li have an appointment at a dealer on friday.. But it would sure help to know if there wasrecall.thank you for your help.

Part of 10133805, second vehicle s70, catastrophic failure, stalled while going 35 in moderate traffic.if it had failed 20 seconds later there could have been an accident. Restarted 30 seconds later in limp home mode, etm replaced. *smch.

The contact owns a 1999 volvo s70. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled and lost power. There were no power brakes when the failure occurred. The contact called the manufacturer regarding recall 06v441000 (vehicle speed control) but was informed that the vehicle had been repaired according to the recall prior to his ownership. However, the dealer stated that the vehicle had not been repaired under the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.

Dt: contact stated that while his wife was driving the speed dropped and the car lost power.his wife told him that a light illuminated on the dashboard before the car lost power.the car would not accelerate over 20 mph.the dealer replaced the throttle control module.this repaired the problem temporarily.but after 30,000 miles, the problem recurred.the dealer again replaced the throttle control module.

Vehicle will not accelerate in drive, but surges back forward when applying brakes, engine light is on and throttle surging. *et

Etm or ets in volvo s70, 1999 and 2000 makes. Electronic throttle module resulting in sever fluctuations of engine. Common in all volvo 99 and 00 years.

I received a notice from volvo that the etm warranty would be extended.thought little of it because the car was running fine.a week later, the dash indicator light went on , indicating that the etm needed service.the car went into "limp home " mode and would shake violently during idle and at other times.the dealer cleaned the module (did not replace) and then told me that the car was not working properly, but that it was not related to the etm.when i went to pick up the vehicle, i noticed it was running very rough, though it never had before.the dealer denied all responsibility.

While driving vehicle lost speed or hesitated, and eventually stalled. Dealer indicated to the consumer that throttle body was the cause of the problem.also, dealerindicated that this was a common problem with this make/model, and year.

Dt: the throttle will flutter and the accelerator will cut out when pressing the accelerator pedal as well as vibrate. The vehicle stalled/died and lost power.the problem was fixed in february 2004, but it recurred. *mrwhen the cruise control fails the odometer fails as well. The abs and brake light illuminated as well.

The electronic throttle system module (ets) had replaced. I had noticed the ets light cae on and then go off shortly afterward about 3 times in two weeks. The car lacked the normal power. The tachometer needle would swing back and forth as i could feel a revving in the gas pedal. I understand that had i not repaired the car, the car could have lost power completely unexpectedly.

We own a 1999 volvo s70 awd sedan. We have been experiencing difficulties related to the lack of acceleration at unanticipated times or a sudden decline in power at other times. The ets warning light is on. This unexpected loss of acceleration is especially hazardous/dangerous when pulling out into traffic thinking that you have plenty of space and time only to find out that you cannot accelerate.i have forwarded my concern to volvo cars of america and received back a noncommittal response suggesting that we have it inspected. We did and the technician said that i should check with volvo as there has been some discussion of this problem in the newspaper. The codes that were identified included:ecm - 914f throttle unit internal faultecm - 9150 throttle unit internal faultecm - 91b7 throttle unit internal faultecm - 903c throttle unit internal faultecm - 903f throttle unit internal faultif this is a safety defect shouldn't volvo recall and replace this throttle unit?your assistance and response is appreciated.thank you, will bruckernote: in the section below about the vehicle it say oem yes?no (i do not know what is being referred to therefore the answer has no relevance but it had to be answered with a yes or no.)the number of times this situation has occurred is numerous and the dates have been varied not just september 10, 2005. Thank you.

Vehicle surges after i had the software download recall. They keep telling me it is a dirty throttle body, but it has been cleaned a thousand times. They never replaced my tcm. Just the software. This needs to stop. I feel unsafe in this car. Need a recall.

I have sold this car to a neighbor, but he is away for 8 months so i have been driving it once a week about 30 miles. It has a little over 60,000 miles on the odometer. Today i filled the tank and shortly afterwards the throttle control light came on. The car immediately began surging between 1 and 2,000 rpm and when i tried to stop the car at a stop sign it continued to surge and with great difficulty i halted the car. When i once again accelerated there was little response and about 30 seconds later it accelerated at a normal rate but the surging continued. I pulled off the road and turned off the ignition. When i started the car it initially revved to 5,000 rpm before settling down. I was fearful to drive the car. I had someone pick me up. I returned to the car an hour later and everything seemed fine. I drove the car home(about 8 miles) and parked it for about an hour. When i went to move it, the car began to surge again after the throttle light came on. I will call volvo tomorrow, but this was a very frightening experience. I believe i had a similar problem a few years back and they replaced the throttle control(i believe it was a recall)

Dt: vehicle stalled/died, and lost power while driving 25 mph due to throttle body failure.the consumer stated due to the current problem, the oxygen sensor is damaged.

I was driving the car to work one morning. I stopped to make a left turn.i proceeded to accelerate, but the car had very little power.i could only go a maximum of 20 mph.i had to pull-over onto the shoulder so that i didn't get rear-ended by oncoming traffic.i decided to 'limp" home about 1/2 mile, again the car would not go faster than 20 mph.my husband checked out the car later that day, and everything seems to be back to normal however the ets light is onthe dash-board.i am concerned this may happen again.i am told it costs over $1,000 to repair.

Dt: contact stated on 3 or 4 occasionswould lose o power intermittently, usually after slowing down andaccelerating. It happened about 4 times over the last year. Took vehicle twice todealer, and they could not t find anything wrong. Vehicle will be fine for a couple of months and then it will happen again. Was able to restart the car after only a few minutes.

Dt:vehicle hesitated and stalled, would not go faster than 10 mph. It happened on september 25, 2005. Dealer cleaned the throttle twice, but id did not solve the problem.

- the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated when accelerating.the vehicle was a 1999 volvo s70,the contact took the vehicle to a mechanic ,and he informed her that there was a recall on the throttle body ,and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a volvo dealer.the volvo dealer performed a computer download.the contact stated she continued to experience hesitation when accelerating.occasionally. May 20041) no prior warning or indication2)car died while driving on the freeway in heavy traffic.i was able to shift to neutral andrestart the vehicle.it ran rather rough for several minutes, but i was able to get off of the freeway.it then began to run smoothly with the check engine light on.over the next several days the car died without warning (other than the constantly lit check engine light.3) i took it into "volvo of richardson".they diagnosed and replaced the electronic throttle module.this cost over $900.00.september 20051) the check engine light came on, but the car seemed to be running fine, had the code checked at "auto zone".they told me that it was probably bad fuel because it had multiple codes that were all related to the proper air/fuel mixture.the recommended that i run a couple of tanks of gas through it and then reset the codes and see if that cleared up my problem.on several occasions the light came back on but went off prior to getting it checked, again the car seemed to be running fine.2) the car died while driving.i was able to shift to neutral andrestart the vehicle.it ran rather rough for several minutes.it then began to run smoothly with the check engine light on.over the next several days the check engine light came on for short periods and then would go out.3) i took it into "volvo of richardson".they diagnosed the intermittent check engine light and recommended thatthe electronic throttle module be replaced before it failed completely.they told me that it is a matter of time before it fails, and that could create a dangerous situation.but would almost certainly add a towing bill to my already steep estimate of $1100.00.i asked them about a warranty/recall.they told me that even though they do see this problem "from time to time" there is no recall and no warranty on the one that they put in for me in may of 2004, since that warranty was only for twelve months.

On vacation in october of 2004,our 1999 volvo s70 started to experience sudden loss of speed and then resume at highway speeds, with or without cruise control engaged.we took it to a volvo dealer and had to have the electronic throttle module replaced.as a result of your investigation number pe05041 i wanted to record my problem with you as well.

Dt: the rpms would drop to 500 or below, and the car would stall. Took vehicleto the dealer, and they cleaned the throttle. Within 2-3 months, it was the same problem or worse. This was a safety issue. The consumer sent volvo a letter, and they said nhtsa was in the middle of an investigation and wouldn't do anything until the results were published.

Vehicle experiencing fuel odor leaking intovehicle wheneverair conditioner or heater are being used. Vehicle been in dealer shop on three occasions, and still unable to correctproblem. Please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.
