By default, the auto stop/start function is engaged every time you start the 2015.5 vovo s60. The car has about 1,800 miles and was picked up at the end of august, 2015, leased as new.my wife was stopped at a traffic light, on a relatively flat road. The car turned off the engine using the auto-stop/start. When she took her foot off the brake and put it on the accelerator, the car turned off completely. The dash turned off. She had to put on her hazard warning lights, put the car into park and press the stop/start button to start the car. She then was able to put it back into drive and continue. This is not how this is supposed to function. This represents a very serious problem that could result in someone getting rear-ended or not being able to accelerate from a stop in an emergency situation--imagine if an ambulance, firetruck or police car was coming through and you had to move through an intersection or to the side of the road but the car died?

While driving, computer screens all went black and engine shut down.if it had happened 1 mile prior, would have been going 50-55 on a curvy two lane road and would have resulted in serious injury or death. Towed to dealer awaiting results.

While driving, all power (all power) is lost, without warning.driving normally in traffic, the car simply shuts down. Engine stops, no lights (interior or exterior), no dashboard data, safety systems disabled, no turn signals, no power steering, safety flashers do not function, etc.essentially like the car was tuned off.try to restart - nothing.after 'resting' for 5 minutes, starts and runs normally.has reoccurred 3 times.visits to the dealership have resulted in new battery, and alternator.no definitive diagnosis, just 'hope' that the problem has been fixed. But neither of those repairs have fixed the problem, it reoccured again (3rd time).the car is extremely dangerous to drive in this condition, to me and my family but also to other drivers on the road.it has been towed to the dealership.no diagnosis yet.

The instrument panel goes completely blank for approximately 5 seconds while driving which renders speed, safety warnings, etc. Unavailable during that time.there is no pattern of occurrence.it happens while driving at city or highway speeds.it has always occurred while the vehicle is in a straight line of motion.this starts out on an infrequent basis (once or twice a week) until it manifests into an event of several times a day.i took the vehicle to the dealer the first time on 01/13/2017 with 12,097 miles on the odometer.it was hooked to the diagnostic computer, and when they saw that no codes were stored, it was "fixed" with a driver information module software upgrade.when the problem started again, i took the vehicle in on 07/20/2017 with 16,066 miles on it. Once again, the car was connected to the diagnostic computer and no codes were found to be stored.the wiring was checked and found to be okay.another software upgrade was used to resolve the issue.

The engine compartment was destroyed by a fire.the car was parked and unoccupied when a doorman noticed the problem and called the fire department.sffd extinguished the fire.

Driving vehicle at normal speed (45mph) when engine shut off entirely. Vehicle flashed brake controller failure and was able to be coasted to a stop on a side street. Power steering had failed at the time as well. The vehicle was unable to be restarted. Vehicle had 46370 miles at the time of the incident and had its previous oil change around 45000 miles. After replacing a battery and starter, it began making rod knock. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where they said it needed a new engine, and was 2 quarts low on oil. My s60 2015.5 abruptly cut off when at a standstill "stationary" in traffic and on the highway traffic the warning system sound came on, as if close to an object, then the screen flashed on then off one time. Within minutes of a complete stop, the car cuts off completely. The screen displayed "turn on engine." my car had to be placed in park before the engine would start. This had occurred at least three times in 2019. I was wondering if anyone had this experience. The issue was unable to be dupicated and no fault code.

My car was excessively burning oil. It required multiple oil changes and i wasn't notified of the low oil until the oil was nearly empty. Volvo performed tests to confirm i had an oil consumption issue that cost over $500. The initial repair was to replace the piston rings. Now they've told me the pistons are scored from the lack of oil/consumption and i require a new engine. The lack of notifications of low oil and the damage to my engine pose a safety risk. I know this issue is occurring across a wide range of volvos.

Started experiencing high oil usage with no visible leaks, about 1 quart in 500 miles.it seems from research and some volvo service bulletins this is reoccurring issue.volvo will only does some repairs as a good will basis even through this is a serial defect.service the 36k was by the dealer and all other service per manufacture recommendations and vehicle scheduled service protocols.

Loud sporadic noise coming from gas hole.*dtconsumer stated vehicle cannot accept gas.

The low pressure fuel sensor on these vehicles is known by manufacturer to fail.this failure can cause hard start conditions, taking over 5 seconds at times to start the vehicle.the main danger of this comes from the fact this is a vehicle equipped with auto stop/start technology.i have experienced near misses due to coming to a stop at a stop sign and then taking over 5 seconds on occasion for the vehicle to restart the engine.on vehicles with worn fuel pumps this issue could manifest as loss of power under heavy engine load, such as climbing a hill or accelerating from a stop.the failure mode is open circuit, meaning at some point prior to failure there is also a chance of high resistance which on a fuel system component could lead to excessive heat and fire.the manufacturer is aware of the issue and has issued an extended warranty for the part was offered for 8 years 80,000 miles.i do not believe this is an appropriate response and a recall should be issued for the part due to its safety related consequences.

The contact owns a 2015 volvo s60. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v849000 (latches/locks/linkages) however, the parts to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to gunther volvo cars coconut creek located at (4350 fl-7, coconut creek, fl 33073 954-590-3760) where it was confirmed that parts were not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

Bought used volvo only had 66,000 miles on it 1st shifter stuck in park, there apparently is a slot in behind shifter in the cubby to stick key in and manually unlock shifter, 2nd serious wabble at 50+ mph was told by volvo it was washer system needed in all wheel drive, the was not the issue needed drivers axel. Only 1 month after replacing front drivers axel i already hear the tell tail clicking of axel bearing gone bad on a new 750.00 axel, 3rd fog / runninglight on bumper flickers over bumps. 4th had the replace bearings on struts all under 70,000 miles on the car not impressed volvo

Drivers seat belt locked in a position where it became unusable while driving.passengers belt tension was very loose and did not retract on its own. No accidents or aggressive braking were involved.

This is an additional complaint regarding the same vehicle brake problem filed under nhtsa safety issue id 10979689.on 15 dec the same volvo failed to stop at a red light on a city street in dry pavement conditions. The only way to stop the vehicle while traveling at approximately 35 mph was by continuing to hold the brake pedal all the way down and then slamming the gearshift from drive into park. The vehicle was subsequently towed back to the local dealer. When this vehicle was at the dealer they drained the brake lines and changed the master brake cylinder based on this fix reportedly working on another s60 with the same problem according to volvo tech support. After eight months the brakes failed again. Volvo has a braking problem on these vehicles and does not no the cause nor the corrective acrion.

Brakes failed to stop the car on three occassions. Brakes would slow the car down;however, the brake pedal was pushed all the way down and the car was still rolling. First two failures occurred consecutively. Had to shift the car into park first time; second time had to put the emergency brake on. Third occasion was after taking the vehicle into volvo dealer in chicago and getting it back with no repairs completed because computer didnt register a problem. Third occasion was four days later; car was slowing down but wouldn't stop.fortunately traffic started to move again before i had to shift the vehicle into park. First incident involved pedestrian crossing the street, last incident involved another vehicle. All three incidents were on city streets. Took vehicle into second dealer in detroit.they contacted volvo tech support. Volvo support recommended changing master brake cylinder and draining brakes lines. Apparently this same problem occurred on another s60 and this fix worked. The detroit dealer did the rcommended repair and so far vehicle is ok. However we are concerned about our safety..not being able to stop the vehicle on three previous occasions is unsafe for us and other motorists/pedestrians.we are not totally confident that the vehicle will be able to come to a complete stop 100% of the time in the future.

While driving on a highway at 65 mph (the legal limit) at approximately 6:55 am on 2 july 2018, i was two or more car lengths behind the car ahead of me when the sun roof catastrophically shattered. No road debris was observed and the road was dry and not in a construction zone. With the sudden exploding sound, i didn't know what was going on but was able to maintain control of the car. I was ducking down reflexively as the noise was above my head. Fortunately, the interior sun roof shade was closed and the sun roof was closed. In my rearview mirror, i saw the car directly behind braking hard and the cars in the next lane slowing down to avoid the debris i later realized was the ejected glass from my sun roof. The noise continued and then the glass began falling into the front area of the car through the vents in the sun shade and i finally realized the sun roof glass had shattered. The car is maintained in excellent condition and there were no signs of chipping, cracks or other damage to the sun roof prior to the incident. There were also no signs on the car's hood, windshield, or roof that shows debris impacted the car and caused the failure.

2015.5 volvo s60 t5 drive-e, less than 13k miles.both the left and right front fender surfaces, just behind the front headlights, are extremely hot to touch after normal driving.bending down to look under the car, i had put my hand above the front wheel and noticed the fender area was extremely hot to the touch.the car had been driven normally and was in my garage at the time; the car was not in the hot sun.the ambient temp was approx. 78f.using a hand held non-contact thermometer, the front fender surface temperature behind the front headlights was measured - it approached 140f at both fender surfaces.since these front fenders are readily accessible by small children, these surfaces can be potentially dangerous for some time after the engine has been shut off.as noted in astm c1055, short duration bodily contact at 140f could be potentially dangerous causing 1st degree burns.when one opens the engine hood, it appears the hot fender surfaces are the result of vehicle design.a black metallic upper body brace connects the hot radiator to the left and right fender areas.based on this observation, one can only assume all 2015.5 volvo s60's have this issue and should be easy to investigate/verify.i don't believe the temp i observed (140f) accounts for worst case scenarios, such as undetected engine faults (excessive eng temps).undetected faults could create significantly higher fender surface temps.no warnings of hot fender surface temps were found in the 2015.5 s60 operating manual, nor were there any stickers in the car noting such.nhtsa website indicated that the manufacturer had noted excessive turbo coolant hose temps.since this appears to be a design issue associated with the car itself and this is a potential burn issue for unsuspecting small children, this complaint should be investigated immediately.

I was sold this car by volvo of north miami on 4/11/18.i had to take the car for service on 4/13 due to other repairs they did not take care of under warranty to gunther volvo , delray beach , florida.i was told i should have never been allowed to drive the car off the lot due to the condition of the tires that were extremely dangerous and could have caused a serious accident and affected others.i was told by ricky menendez who sold the car that all there cars are inspected thoroughly before being sold.

I got a flat tire. The car is equipped with a continental emergency tire inflator kit. I hooked it up as the instructions stated. It did not fill the tire and exploded covering my car, interior (door was open for the compressor to plug into cig lighter), and myself including in my face.

Sunroof exploded & shattered as i was driving for no apparent reason!!!!

Stationary vehicle equipped with keyless ignition and auto engine "start/stop" feature. Vehicle was stopped in driveway.engine stopped, driver stepped out of car, engine restarted and moved forward, damaging home and barely missed pinning driver against wall. Experienced driver, momentarily distracted, assumed engine was off, and having previously disabled start/stop feature, believed that vehicle was in park as part of normal shutdown - owing to already quiet engine. Call to dealer service revealed "several people" complained of auto start/stop feature but said there was no way to reset default for this feature - the solution was to remember to disable each time driver entered car (volvo has a disable button on console which defaults to the auto start/stop and requires driver to manually disable each time car is started).

Nhsta recall #19v849, the driver's door opens with no known antecedent; except now the recall

I was in stop-and-go traffic on a level surface street. After i came to a stop, the stop-start system shut off the engine. When i let up on the brake slightly, the car started to roll forward, but the engine didn't start (it normally does this). When i let up lightly more and quickly used the accelerator, the engine felt like it stalled. Once stalled, the dashboard screen read "press start." pressing start didn't do anything or provide any feedback, and successive attempts didn't help. After not hitting anything for a ~minute, i finally got feedback: the car wasn't in park. After putting it in park from drive, i was able to start it.this all makes sense for a car with a manual transmission, but "stalling" an an automatic, then getting incorrect instructions was unnerving. If the car had an actual key, i probably would have tried turning it off, failed, then realized the car was still in drive, but the push-button start doesn't make it clear what state the car is in.i can't remember if i initially came to a stop or was < 1mph. I also can't remember if i applied the brakes as the engine started to start back up, then let up on the brakes, or if i only let up on the brakes once.

Sunroof glass exploded while driving on the freeway in hot weather. There was no sign of a rock or any other object hitting the vehicle. I have done my research and thisis a known issue with volvo.

We purchased this car new from the dealer and its great. However, as i hand wash all of our cars, i couldn't help but notice that the right front wheel always has an unusual discoloration, a mix of some kind of fluid with the brake dust. The other 3 wheels exhibit only the usual brake dust; but on the right front this mix of fluid and dust doesn't just wash off. Rotate wheels, the new wheel on the right front exhibits the same discoloration. The dealer insists it is only brake dust. Now, 2 years on, most of whatever fluid was secreting to the right front wheel seems to be gone but, after retrieving the car from its 20k service, i couldn't help but notice a rumble coming from the right front. Sounds like a wheel bearing to me (in my day, i've replaced em). The dealer says its the tires; continues to say that the discoloration on only the right front, is brake dust. Even said it might be rust from the disc brakes. Ok, fine, then why none on the front left?or either of the rears? why only the right front.i have taken swabs of all 4 wheels and have them in separate labeled zip lock bags if anyone wants to run them through a spectrometer.i've never reported anything to the nhtsa before but, in light of their insistence that it is only brake dust ... Well, i've rebuilt my share of brake systems, worked on a race team etc., and i'm finding this all a bit insulting if not dismissive.this car is primarily used as my wife's daily commuter (30 miles round trip) in the suburbs with an occasional road trip on the books.'parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'
