On march 12 my volvo s-60r was t-boned"by a large suv ord explorer that impacted a point near my front driver's-side wheel. The suv impact caused major damage to the front end by totally removing the volvo's bumper and mangling the front driver quarter panel down to the chassis. Although my car was sent spinning by the force of the collision.none of the airbags deployed at this initial impact. As my volvo proceeded to spin clockwise across the pavementit impacted the over pass guard-rail such that the driver's side slammed into the guard-rail, pinning me in the vehicle. Only the passenger front airbag deployed on hitting the guard railand releasing much smoke into the cabin.even though this was an abrupt, violent impact , both when the suv hit me, and when my car slammed into the guard rail the only component of the airbag/collision curtain system to function was the dashboard installed passenger air bag. It isimportant to note that there was no other person traveling in the volvo but me. The front passenger seat and the rear seats- were empty. Within about 12 hours of the accident i wrote volvo america to express my extreme dissatisfactionwith the failure of the car's safety system.

2004 volvo s60 2.5 turbo:no warning to the events.on numerous occasions, the car feels as if it has hit a large object, temporarily lurches and appears to momentarily stall creating a temporary loss of vehicle control.this is followed by an immediate loss of all instrument gauges, air conditioner, window controls and door locks.the fan did continue to work. The abs warning light also indicated as well as a warning that no brakes function existed.the srs service air bag urgent indication is illuminated.on turning the car off and restarting, the functions of the car return with exception that the srs service air bag urgent indication remains.this problem can take months to repeat or only a matter of minutes.it seems to be more prevalent in hot weather.the vehicle was taken to the service shop at the volvo dealer and they could only clear alarms as they said the event created too many alarms/fault codes to troubleshoot.they downloaded new software revisions to each control module in the car.after a period of approximately a month, the events began occurring again.the vehicle has been taken to non oem mechanics as well and they are not able to troubleshoot the fault.the vehicle is scheduled to be taken to the dealers service shop again.searching the internet chat rooms and blogs, as well as this site, there appears to be numerous other vehicles with this same safety fault that stalls vehicles in traffic and creates very sudden and severe lurches in power ultimately leading to a momentary stall out with loss of all instrument indications to include speed, rpm, turn indicator, etc.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60.while driving between 25-30 mph, the contact struck a deer and the vehicle flipped over.none of the air bags deployed.a police report was filed.the vehicle was destroyed.the contact sustained back and neck injuries.the contact has pictures.the current and failure mileages were 41,000.

I was driving 35-40 mph when a vehicle 2 cars ahead of me had to make a quick stop. I did not see this happen in time, slammed on my brakes and consequently smashed into the back of the car in front of me, who then hit the car in front of him. I totaled my car. The passenger air bag deployed and filled my car with smoke (or whatever that is) however, the driver air bag did not deploy. I was rushed to a trauma center and my injuries include my back, neck and i lost a tooth from my face hitting the steering wheel. My chest and legs are covered in bruises from the seat belt. I am very lucky, however, i do not like to think of what could have occurred if i was at a high speed and on the fwy. And the air bag did not deploy because it was defective, and perhaps it was not designed to go off in this particular incident? i hit head on, no logical reason to think the passenger airbag going off as it did, but not mine or driver side.

My son was in a side impact collision on the passenger side of his 2004 volvo s60. He was in a rural area and either didn't see the oncoming car or missed his stop sign and the oncoming driver was unable to stop. The other driver is uninjured but my son in severely injured with a grade 3 dai head injury. He was wearing his seat belt. The side airbags deployed but not the one in the steering wheel. In an email volvo told me this is how the airbags are designed and that the driver airbags will not deploy on side impact. If that is correct information, this needs to change. The only significant injury my son has is where his head hit the steering wheel, if that airbag had deployed his injuries would have potentially been much less. The airbags are already there, i don't understand why they can't just deploy on any significant impact. I will include pictures.

When pulling into a parking space at my daughter's school, vehicle suddenly accelerated over the sidewalk and struck the building.transmission popped in reverse and vehicle accelerated backwards.even with the brake pedal all the way to the floor, vehicle would not stop.i forced the transmission into park and turned off the vehicle to get it to stop after going in reverse for approximately 50 feet.there was significant damage to the car and building (pictures available).none of the airbags deployed.

Volvo s60r seat issue. Turned seat heater on, felt very warm sensation on my left hip/leg after a few minutes. Turned seat heater off and got out of car to check what was happening. Seat heater burned through the leather and also my jeans. Is there a recall/fix? seems extremely dangerous.

I own a 2004 volvo s60r that has turn signal issues.there was no event leading up to the failure.simply one day it no longer worked 100% of the time.when using the turn indicator stock to signal a left turn it will not do so if i fully depress it into the lock position.if i hold it only part of the way before it locks into the position itsometimes works.if i do put it into the fully locked position and turn the steering wheel sometimes it may work and sometimes it may not.this only effects the left turn signal and not the right.i saw the following article (http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-07-26/volvo-suvs-examined-for-electronics-flaws-u-s-says.html) about the 2004 - 2005 xc90 exhibiting the same behavior with the turn signal stalk intermittently working.obviously the consequences would be disastrous if i cannot signal my intentions on lane changing and others would then collide into me causing injury and possibly death to either one or all parties involved.no parts have been replaced and the defective part is still installed on my vehicle.

Car was in park and running when electrical wires to the windshield wipers caught fire. The bundle of wires are housed in a rubber tube. My understanding is rubber is quite fire-resistant.there have been 5 recalls on this model, two which were related to electrical fires.neither applied to this particular car fire.local volvo dealership wants nothing to do with the situation; they send us to corporate customer service and they, in turn send us back to the local dealership .service manager said he was not a knowledgeable fire inspector and suggested that we hire an expert in that field.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the check engine light illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road, restarted the vehicle, and resumed driving. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 155,000.

Bulbs continuously burns out causing errors that cannot be readily fix by the owner.bulbs such as for headlights, turn signals and rear lights burn out constantly.we are averaging a bulb replacement every 2 months.

I have a 2004 volvo s60 with 57,700 miles. All work on the vehicle has been done by volvo.recently, when the ac is on, the fan speed has stopped responding to adjustments.nothing happens when i try to adjust the speed and then, on its own, the speed will change a few minutes later.when i turn the car off, the fan continues to run for at least five minutes. I'm afraid that one day it won't turn off and will drain the battery. The volvo rep and an independent mechanic feel that the repair may be costly and just to do the diagnostic is expensive, so i haven't had it done while i decide whether to just trade in the vehicle.

Purchased this car in 2010 with 51,000 miles.shortly after purchase check engine light came on with service engine soon message.car worked fine.then brake failure message came on, brakes worked fine.took vehicle to volvo dealership and they found a way to "reset" system.go in trunk, remove black battery cable, touch it to red battery cable for approx 10 seconds and the system will.we've reset the system countless times and it continues to be a problem.about 3 months ago all gauges would quit working and car would randomly brake at about 45 mph.plus after coming to stop, car would barely move but after it got going it would be fine.reset system and it worked for about 3 miles and happen again.volvo mechanic found awd (dem) control module failure.replaced this at $1500 for the part and after 50 miles, gauges still work, no random braking and acceleration is normal. But....service engine message and check engine light back on.was told that all modules relate to each and if one is out it can affect the others.at about $1500 per module, it is cost prohibitive to replace all these, 6 to be exact.volvo needs to recall these vehicles and replace these modules.

When turning a corner. I noticed the check engine light was on.the this happened a second time a week later, and then several additional times. I took the car to independent mechanic and he checked it out but couldn't diagnose the problem. He only speculated that it could be the pvc box, but that they were not sure it would fix the problem. The car had approximately 100k after this happened about eight times in the next 3 months, i took the car to volvo dealer. They checked it out, and told me it may be the pvc box, but they were not sure this would fix the problem. I took it to another mechanic and who said it was the catalytyic converter. This problem has been ongoing for a year. I took the car to another mechanic and he changed the spark plugs and cabin filter. He told me to take the car to the volvo dealership/service to have the computer reset. He said, because the car looses pressure and stalls when you make a quick turn. I called volvo they said this would fix the problem. I took the car to volvo to get an oil change. They told me the car stalled out on the mechanic 3 times and the check engiine light was on. They checked the car on the computer and told me the engine coils needed replacing. That was the problem.i paid for the engine coils to be replaced and some other work which totaled $1350.00. I picked the car up on friday, on monday, while turning a corner the car stalled out, no power, no steering, just onboard lights. It happened again on tuesday morning. I experienced this problem when the car was under recall. The dealership fixed it, but it seems as though this problem is occuring again. This is dangerous and volvo should be responsible and fix these cars. There are some serious mechanical/engine problems with this vehicle.

While driving, the car jerks violently -the same thing happens when the car is idling (no jerk, only an"click" sound). It happens anytime but seems worse in the summer but i think it's hot-heat related. The other issues are related: -the interior lights usually come on-the instrument panel goes completely blank/lights go off/no available emergency lights-the windshield wipers make one wipe sometimes-the "rear passenger door open" warning comes on-the "brake failure stop safely" warning comes on and sometimes "check engine" light comes on. Not all of these symptoms occur each time. There are more severe and less severe incidents.

Driving along the highway at bout 70 mph, the car suddenly hesitates and loses power (the rpm reader, and speedometer fall to 0). The car then regains power and then it jerks and hesitates, once again losing power. This time the power stays out. Haven't had the problem fixed yetthe initial acceleration of the car is extremely slow and it requires a hard press on the gas to get the car in motion. The power doesn't work for the following functions:power lock (including the remote) all steering wheel functions (radio and cruisecontrol)headlightsturn signalswindshield wiperssun roofside and rear view mirrorsair conditioning controlsall gauges in the dashboard.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and was pulled over to the side of the road. The vehicle was restarted and there were no warning indicators illuminated. The failure recurred. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.

When turning a corner, the engine stopped, steering stopped working and lights on dashboard come on.this happened a second time two days later.took to independent mechanic and he checked all work he had done in the past plus checked the whole car out and he could not find why the car stopped.two days later the car again stalled out when in traffic - engine stopped, steering stopped working and lights on dashboard came on.last two times this happened i was driving on a straight road. This has happened 5 times now in the last week. All times engine stopped working, i was driving between 10 and 40 miles per hour.after researching this problem, i found out that my vehicle had been recalled and at 53,333 miles the fuel pressure sensor was replaced by the dealer.now 42,000 miles later it appears that it is once again the fuel pressure sensor.this is very dangerous especially since i do a lot of highway driving and also live in an area where children have been know to run out into the street.not only is there a possibility of a car accident, but also the possibility of a child being hit if i cannot turnthe car quickly to avoid the child.at this point i am afraid to drive the car and fell very unsafe even though volvos are know for their safety.after reading numerous reports of many people having this problem with their 2004 s60 volvos it makes me wonder why volvo is not correcting this problem on all 2004 volvo s60s that are having this same problem.my mechanic is checking on this problem and will replace next week if this is the real issue.sometimes doors lock for no reason at all.also i have had to replace the rear lights on this vehicle several times.seems much more than normal.

1/22/08 inserted key and it would only move into the first position activating the radio, lights, etc.unable to continue to turn key and turn on automobile.steering column lock assembly failed, although it is expected to last the life of the car, leaving me stranded and without a car for over a week since part comes from germany.4/17/12 same symptoms and once again i am stranded unexpectedly.volvo dealer reports this happens often and new double priced part might last longer.this is a danger due to its sudden completely unpredictable onset, inability to be driven, and length of time that the car is unable to be in use.

Driver's side seat started smoking within a few seconds of starting the vehicle while backing out of parking place. Seat heater was on. Immediately stopped and turned off seat heater and smoking stopped. Quarter size hole was burned into the leather seat bottom on the driver's side outside panel. Took it to darrell waltrip volvo/subaru in franklin, tn, and they said it was the seat heater and took the fuse out. Said it wasn't covered under warranty and no recall out. Hope no one has this problem driving down the interstate.best regards and thanks for all your hard work, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

This is what is happening to me with my 2004 t2.5 s60 volvo. I called volvo and they said no recalls yet i see this same thing happening to other, it has to be a defect with the car. My happens when the weather gets hot here in california. I had no problems this winter, but yesterday it was in the mid to high 80?s and the problem happened again!no warning to the events. On numerous occasions, the car feels as if it has hit a large object, temporarily lurches and appears to momentarily stall creating a temporary loss of vehicle control. This is followed by an immediate loss of all instrument gauges, air conditioner, window controls and door locks. The fan did continue to work. The abs warning light also indicated as well as a warning that no brakes function existed. The srs service air bag urgent indication is illuminated. On turning the car off and restarting(sometimes that doesn't work, but if i remove the battery cable and let it set for a bit and put it back on the car will start), the functions of the car return with exception that the srs service air bag urgent indication remains. This problem can take months to repeat or only a matter of minutes. It seems to be more prevalent in hot weather.i have taken it to different repair places and theytoo many codes, reset it and it comes back again. This has been going on for over the past two years.

Like many others who are on volvo websites have reported i too had a fire on the drivers seat left side due to my seat heater. I now have a half dollar sized hole in the side of my seat. The first sign of this was a smell and then a lot of smoke. Luckily i was able to pull over quickly and had a towel handy to snuff it out, otherwise i would have burned hands or other parts. I've been a lifelong volvo owner, i have to say i'm surprised volvo hasn't at least warned their dealers about this problem.i did see another drivers seat totally blackened and burnt out last time i took my car in, was amazed that it could even happen let alone be a common occurrence. Now after searching online this is a prevalent problem.

Car stops while driving.gauges on dashboard don't work.

The rear door indicator was illuminated, the vehicle was exhibiting hesitation, the steering was hard to turn and the interior light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the brake, spark plugs and air filter was replaced however, the failure was not corrected. The vehicle continued to experience the electrical failures. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 118,000 and the current mileage was 120,000.

2004 volvo s60 ignition key failure: key refused to turn car will not start. Car will not go in to neutral. Car must be abandoned occupants must seek transportation.first occurrenceapril 17th 2008. I recently purchased a volvo s60r automobile for eagle volvo of riverhead ny.i received the s60 r in early december and as of today (2-04-04) i have approx 1750 miles on it..so why all the detail, well since i have owned this car it has been in the shop three (3) times for a problem with the 4c suspension systems.the first time it spent approx a week at the shop and was to be resolved with a sensor replacement.the second time was because a software update was required for the system, and the third time they have spent two days on it and are still not sure what the issue is.i have been very patient over this problem.i understand these things happen, and if it where not for my sales person wayne lake commitment to me i would be probably looking for another car.that being said i am very concerned about the level of service i am getting from volvo itself.even after i called volvo customer service to ask for support in this matter , i received information that a field technician would not be able to come out and help in the resolution of my problem for two week ( next week they are all going to training) .. To hear this is an outrage.i have been without my car for nearly 10 days in total; i have less the 2500 miles, and have brought it back to the shop three times for the same issue and even after all of this volvo does not feel that this issues warrants a change in someones schedule or the need to make some arrangements to get my car repaired in a timely manner.worst yet , you would think after calling volvo customer service and opening up a so called folder that i would receive a call explaining the situation or what was being done to correct this problem.or at least offering my some compensation for my troubles, like a long term loaner car to replace the car i do not have due to this issue, or maybe even an offer of extending the warranty to address my concerns over the reliability of the 4 c suspension.

Check engine light came on and car lost power while driving at highway speeds. It would not accelerate and displayed the message "reduced engine performance". Dealer indicated it was a cracked intercooler hose and that caused the issue. It was replace and after about two months the same symptoms happened. It was then diagnosed as a bad electronic throttle body. That was replaced and the same symptoms happened within two months again. The car now does not accelerate more than 10 mph. The next diagnosis was to replace the complete engine wiring harness. The car is unsafe to drive because it stall or decelerate from highway speeds with no notice. It is very similar to a recall for model years up to 2002.

The pcv "flame trap" has clogged in my 2004 volvo s60 with only 41,000 miles and as it turns out, this is a $1200 job. I wouldn't be so dismayed had i not discovered that this is an extremely prevalent problem and that it is guaranteed to happen to your car prior to 100,000 miles. That there is nearly no amount of maintenance one can do to prevent this problem. The worst part about this problem is that if it's not repaired promptly, it will lead to oil burning and the damaging of various seals in the engine which will lead to catastrophic engine failure. Volvo has extended its warranty coverage for this problem on its s40 model cars which share the engines in the s60, yet has not acknowledged this to be a major problem in its s60 models.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the check engine light illuminated. The problem recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the pressure sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer has been made aware of the problem and stated the vin was not included in recall nhtsa campaign number: 07v226000 (engine and engine cooling). The failure mileage was 108,000.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the engine stalled and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle restarted five minutes later after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the failure was contributed to the fuel pressure sensor. There was a recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 07v226000 (engine and engine cooling). The vin was ineligible under the recall and the vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.

Approximate a month later after i brought 2004 volvo s60 at dec 2011, when i was driving in freeway to post office, what a sudden, the engine stalled without warning,i press the accelerate pedal, but it was not response, but the car still hv a little momentum, then it turn it to the corner and the car was stopped. I turn off the key and restart the car again, it worked.after a year, the problem come back again and the frequencybecome more, up til dec, 2012, 3 more timessame problem incurred. It was scary.

Car is volvo s60 2004 trim 2.4 4 door sedan fwd has 90317 miles on it. From last few weekswhen i am driving vehicle it starts losing powerand a warning come try slow down or shift up and my check engine light started blinking. This happened 4 times in last 1 week as the result i need to pull my car to safe place and restart that and then it runs better. This has really put me in danger to myself and other people on road. I am scare of driving the car in multiple lane roads in other lanes. I am now driving it on right lane only so that keep myself and other people safe for quick pull over if needed. Check engine gives me code p0171 and p0300. I went on line and followed advice and changed spark plugs, ignition coils and also oxygen sensor but no difference. Still car did same thing when i was driving with my family. I went on line and saw that many people have that issue with volvo s60 of this year and model and struggling. I think this is some volvo s 60 2004 model recall issue as it is creating accidental hazard to the owner of the car and the other traffic. Dr takyar

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The engine started to hesitate and stalled. The contact coasted to the side of the road and waited for approximately three minutes and restarted the vehicle. The contact drove the vehicle to m.p.l.automotive laconia new hampshire (independent mechanic). The vehicle was diagnosed with a fuel rail pressure sensor needing replacement and also advised the contact of nhtsa campaign number: 07v226000 (engine and engine coolant). The contact called lovering volvo meredith new hampshire was advised that the vin was part of the recall. The vehicle was not repaired as of yet. The approximate failure mileage was 158,000.

Driving home after purchasing the car (yeah), i was turning into a parking lot, so my speed was descending and the car stalled. I wrote it off as my fault because it did not happen again until 3 months later. Within the past 3 weeks the car has stalled while in motion approx. 6 times. Volvo stated the recalled part for this issue was replaced in 2009. I notified the dealer and have a appointment for repair, at my expense because it was already replaced. Meanwhile i will not drive the car due to the lack of safety. Wish i would have researched the car model before purchase.

In stop and go traffic, my foot was on the brake to slow down. I took my foot off the brake and stepped on the accelerator as traffic moved again, there was no response to my foot on the gas pedal. The fuel tank, which i had just filled 10 miles before, showed as empty on the fuel gage. I was very, very slowly rolling forward with residual momentum and my steering wasn't working. There was just enough play in the wheel and forward momentum to aim and arrive at the shoulder of the highway. This was on rte 156 in monterey county, california, where very dangerous accidents happen all the time. Car had to be towed and the dealership has been unable to replicate failure. It was outrageously dangerous and i was alone with my 11-year-old child. So frightening!!!

The vehicle on several occasions will completely shut off while in the middle of driving. I have taken it to several mechanics and was advised that they cannot find anything wrong with it. I have had this happen while driving on the expressway at over 70 mph and local at 35 mph. I have to immediately shift to neutral and turn the car back on. It is extremely scary. I have been lucky that there has never been anyone behind me, but if someone is behind me and it happens again, there will definitely be an accident. This has happened 8 times now.

Dt:consumer owned a 2004 volvo s60. On going since april of 2005 engine rebuilt due to stalling. Vehicle stalledin traffic and did not accelerateproperly. Also, vehicle slowed downat once for no reason. While driving after the enginewas rebuilt and was merging onto i87 north and vehiclestalled. Consumerpulled off the ramp onto the shoulder. Then paused for about five minutes to regaincomposure and then restarted engine.vehicle restarted with no problem. Consumer saidthat stall only happened twice. Dealerreplaced mass airflow sensor, but vehicle still did not operate correctly. Consumer thought that vehicle didnot operate properly between 2000 and 3000 rpms. Themanufacturer should do something about this problem which wasvery dangerous. Consumerworried about her life while driving vehicle.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the engine suddenly stalled for one second. There was no prior warning and the contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and they informed the contact that there was a recall related to the failure under nhtsa campaign id number 07v226000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vin was not included in the recall. The approximately failure mileage was 78,000.

At any given time the vehicle stalls. I loose all power and have to restart the car. I've taken the car to the dealer they don't give me an answer. Finally they gave me a list of items that say may be the problem, but are not sure it's the problem.

I drive a volvo s60r and when i am accelerating i notice that i have a very large lack of power going from 3000 to 3500 rpm's, there is almost no increase in power.i have brought up the issue with a volvo dealer and they informed me that there was a recall for this, but my car for some reason did not get the recall.he said it is the same issue but there was nothing he can do about it.

Cars shut off on two separate occasions with out a moments notice within a two week period, once at a stop sign another time in stop and go traffic on a major highway. I have only owned this car for less than two months. There are no signals or codes listed on the car as to why it shut off. Car doesn't have problem restarting at all. Volvo dealer has listed this car as up to date with all recalls. Issue is yet to be resolved, due to mechanic's not experiencing the shut off point they are failing to diagnose the situation period. My safety is 1st, however my car may shut off at any point, so i do not feel safe in this car at all.

I was leaving ucla parking garage (i'm an rn there) when i put my volvo 2004 s60 into gear and it took off backwards like a rocket, car was thrown into a concrete post far away from where i began. I immediately put car in park since i thought i'd get out and see what on earth happened, but it then lunged forward by itself and took off without stopping!!! thank god it was 6pm and not an hour earlier when many staff would have been in garage, i'd have run them over! i also turned off ignition with key, nothing helped!! it kept going along with a mind of its own at approx 15 mph making a growling whirring sound. I was able to steer car and avoid other vehicles but eventually had to make serious decision to purposely crash into another concrete massive post which i did and the "possessed beast". Finally came to a halt with fluid pouring out all over,. My brakes did not work during this event, not at all, that's why i couldn't stop the car (along with foot on brake, tried putting car in park gear and turned off ignition keylast august when i had only 22, 000 miles on car it took it to volvo dealer twice, since car was often stalling and stopping on the street while i was driving. I was told they couldn't find it stalling when they test drove itbut they mentioned they cleaned the throttle and said that could help (which it did until 2, 500 miles later when this happened. I have dealer paperwork indicating car stalling and that they cleaned throttle box also, they said i should be taking car on the freeway more at high enough speed to "blow off the carbon"i spent friday night in er with neck/shoulder injuries, but this could have been a disaster. Forgot to mention that when i took car in for service july 2007 dealer replaced fuel pressure sensor as per recall. Don't know if this is significant. Also wrote on form "during inspection found upper engine mount collapsed, cause........ Engine repair".updated 03-25-08 the dealer stated rear brake pads had to be replaced. Updated 03/25/08

Certified previously owned vehicle stalled due to butterfly valve within throttle body not opening fast enough when going around a corner and too much load on the engine. Example: exited freeway and was turning left while braking due to upcoming red light. The engine stalled in the middle of an intersection while the vehicle was in motion at approximately 10 mph. Lost steering and braking power. The problem was first noticed when making right turns and having to suddenly brake for a pedestrian, bicyclist, or other traffic hazard and the engine stalling or fluttering at much lower speeds. As it worsened over the course of a week it was ultimately the worst with the mid-intersection stall. At this point we were afraid to drive the vehicle for fear of crashing. Vehicle was purchased from a dealer as certified pre-owned 68,735 miles on 05/02/2008 and was taken to dealer for stalling at 76,678 miles on 08/15/2009. Dealer reported this as a maintenance issue not covered under warranty. Repairs for cleaning the throttle body, resetting valve, and installing new gaskets was $402.93. Vehicle originally purchased in southern california.vehicle moved to washington in february of 2009.

I have a 2004 volvo s-60 with approximately 75,000 miles on it.in the past 6 weeks, the car engine has completely died three separate times - without warning.the emergency hazard light still worked, the fan still blows (no a/c, just the fan), but otherwise there is no power, no brakes, no steering, no warning lights whatsoever.each time this has happened, it has been when i am driving between 40-55mph.when the car coasts to a stop and i am able to re-start it, it starts without a problem.my volvo dealership says they see no evidence of problem on the car's computer system, and the car did not die when they test drove it, therefore they say they cannot diagnose the problem - and that without a diagnosis, they cannot repair it.they also claim that volvo's database has no related vehicle or parts recall on my particular vin/vehicle.however, with absolutely no warning of when the engine failure will occur, and with no control over steering or braking, this is a very dangerous situation that volvo so far cannot address unless the engine failure happens right in front of them.with no way of controlling when the car will die, this is obviously not a satisfactory resolution for the safety of myself or for other drivers.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated the drivers speed was 25 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The check engine light illuminated prior to the failure; yet, the vehicle restarted after the failure occurred. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. 1. Vehicle stalled 2 times, last year and on 08/09/2010 while driving on highway. I was able to restart both time. The second time i was able to restart after 5 minutes and drive to the nearby the volvo store dealership.2. The dealership diagnosed the problem and determined the battery was the issue. However i see 2 recall campaign id numbers: 09v483000 and 07v226000 which may be the root cause of the problem. I talked to the service manager at the volvo store dealership (1051 w. Webster ave, winter park, fl 32789 - 407-628-0550) but the dealership won't look at it because they said my car is not shown up for recall in their volvo database. 3. Replace the battery.

I-55 south shortly before weber road exit i was on the left lane traveling 30 mph, decided to change to middle lane, signaled and while in process of lane change, car started to go out of control. Then steered to the left, and was heading towards cement divider. To avoid that i steered right, at this point car started to do 360. Could not control and was moving to face oncoming semi truck from middle lane. The semi truck slammed into the right side (headlight/tire) area of my car volvo s60 model year 2004 and stopped the car. Both airbags deployed - driver and passenger airbag. Only person in car was me. Prior to the crash i experienced and felt that the front control arms may not have been manufactured correctly and as a result the stud and nut that secured spindle may lose their initial axial tension. Under certain and particular driving conditions such as weather conditions remaining severe with heavy snow storm, steering might become less responsible and the driver may experience difficulty in controlling the steering. This driving condition could have been the approximate cause that lead to separation between control arm and the spindle which had ultimately resulted in a "total crash". I also tried to apply brake. Loss of brake fluid, as a result of failure of sealed cardone master cylinder with fluid leaking from brake had resulted in crash. I also observed cruise control sensor failure, after i turned it "on", then it shuts off by itself, again i have to turn on.while driving at rate 60 to 65 miles i observed a kind of noise and vibrations under hood. Possibly the fuel pressure sensor located of the fuel rail may transmit incorrect signal to the engine control module. I of the opinion that this might be one of the contributing factor responsible for stalling of engine without any warning and has caused a total crash on the freeway. Failure of the fuel pressure sensor might have cracked due to temperature changes and excessive vibrations and that causedcrash.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph when the vehicle abnormally accelerated until crashing. There were no injuries. The vehicle went form side to side as she tried very hard to brake and steer away from the incline on the right.this action continued for about 0.3 miles, before the vehicle air lifted and the right passenger side between the rear door and rear quarter panel hit the guardrail. The vehicle then bounced off the guardrail, crossed the street, jumped the gutter and landed on its wheels in a nearby field, where it came to a stop.when she tried to start the vehicle, she kept in the lowest gear, with her foot on the brake and a message light illuminated stating do not drive, coolant is low. Numerous times vehicle has stalled suddenly at various speeds - all power is lost and the check engine light is illuminated.vehicle will restart after a few minutes. Taken to local mechanic - unable to replicate issue. Found recall for 2004 volvo s60, but vehicle vin not included in recall.mileage at 55,000.

I have a 2004 volvo s60. In the past one year it keeps stalling both in motion and when going into drive from park. This creates a dangerous situation while operating the vehicle, especially when in motion at highway speeds. I have taken the vehicle to volvo authorized service twice with no resolution. The last stall was on august 30, 2007 resulting in the car being towed to volvo service. A recall was issued on 2004 s40 due to a similar complaint, but i was told that the recall did not apply since the vehicle was an all wheel drive.

Ltr re 2004 volvo s60 2.5 t steering defect; seeking steering of my vehicle be corrected, re-engineered to that of any current volvo sedan; please contact her by mail or phone within 14 days of this letter.the consumer stated the tires were rubbing against the steering well when making turns.the dealer performed a temporary fix by installing a steering rack limiter to prevent the tire rubbing. The consumer called the dealer back once the problem returned and was then informed that there was a steering engineering defect with the vehicle and the manufacturer was offering a steering replacement kit that could be installed at no cost. Once the replacement kit was installed, the consumer soon discovered the steering radius was incredibly diminished and that she could no longer make u-turns at an intersection. The dealer told the consumer the steering kit was the only solution that volvo offered. The consumer stated the coolant light was on.the dealer stated the radiator was leaking.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. While driving at approximately 10 mph, the vehicle hesitated, decreased in engine performance, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact turned off the ignition restarted it to move to the side of the road. The failure occurred on four other occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the failure. The current mileage was approximately 90,000. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.

Displays "check engine" most of the time and downloads to a fuel pressure sensor. Auto hesitates periodically and has on 4 separate occasions stalled completely.07v226000 has a recall for this exact problem but volvo says my vin not affected. Seems from seeing other complaints with same problem that volvo underestimated their problem.

2004 volvo s60 regularly serviced by volvo.bought new, well maintained, exc cond, & oil changed ever 3000 miles.only 68k miles presently but many problems since bought new.#1)replacing burned out rear/front headlight bulbs constantly. #2)check engine light came on before 40k miles. Wasn't too concerned at first because only issue i seemed to have was hesitation somewhat when accelerating after being parked.until one day veh wouldn't accelerate beyond a roll after being stopped for red light.a few days later driving approx 50 mph uphill car stopped accelerating and stalled.both times i was able to roll to side of road, restart & make it home.scared me enough though to take to volvo next day.fuel sensor gauge needed to be replaced.when i checked if covered under recall - found my car wasn't based on vin, another fairly costly repair. #3 - ac fan wouldn't go off one day - fan running full blast & control switch wouldn't regulate or work.fan continued to run even when i turned off ignition.dead battery next morning needed jump start.ac fan modular bad - modular repair done & then fan somehow burned out due to new modular when mechanic testing repair - now fan needed to be replaced.very costly repair once again.#3 -check engine light came on. After months to several mechanics, checking oil, etc. Told light probably just faulty.then check oil light blinks - car had less than 1/2 qt oil & i had major engine damage. Had complete engine rebuilt & very expensive.engine running great. Now 2 mos later & i hear a metal to metal noise/sound when making turns - preferably right hand - & coming from rght front side of car.mechanic can't see safety issues when up on rack. Has no clue.noise annoying and concerning.it sounds like wheel is going to fall off car.i am sure it will cost another fortune .however once repaired - trading in.i loved my car...however no longer feel veh is safe or depen.

The contact's spouse owns a 2004 volvo s60.on approximately twenty occasions, the vehicle would completely shut off and need to be restarted intermittently.the failure occurred while braking or turning the vehicle. The dealer was able to duplicate the failure, but could not get an error code from the diagnostic machine. Recall number 07v226000 is regarding the same issue; however, the vin is not included. The current mileage was 92,000 and failure mileage was 91,000.

1. Reference - odi id number : 10348993the car stalled again on the highway and i was able to manage to pull over safely. 2. This time it was diagnosed with the fuel pressure sensor. The dealer and volvo customer care rep stated that the recall is not applicable to the car because the last 6-digit vin [xxx] is out of range of 335112 to 372809. The volvo customer care rep also stated there is no guarantee if the problem will not happen again within the 12 month part warranty after it's fixed. I feel very unsafe driving the car now, not knowing when the problem occurs again and could cause a fatal crash.3. Dealer replaces fuel pressure regulator.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60.while driving 60 mph, the vehicle lost power steering and the brakes failed.the contact shifted into neutral and then turned off and restarted the vehicle.the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure.the current mileage is 32,000 and failure mileage was 7,800.

In july of 2009 during the washington state heat wave, where temperatures reached 104, my 2004 volvo s60r experienced a engine shutdown on the freeway that was described in a recall (07v226000) for my model and year.my vehicles vin was not part of the vehicles that were part of the recall however i think you should expand the range since my vehicle also had the fuel pressure sensor replaced to solve the issue.i still have the part if you want to examine it.i have read the consequences part of the recall (07v226000) and that is exactly what i experienced.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60 . While driving 5 mph, making a right, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure occurred 5 times. The dealer was contacted and stated that the engine was out of code with high mileage. The vin was not a part of nhtsa recall campaign id number, 07v226000, engine and engine cooling. The diagnostic test confirmed that the ecm 2600 failed and it was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was67000.

When i drive my manual transmission s60r volvo, and i shift i hear a loud thud in the back of the car, i checked everything that could possibly be making the noise and secured it,it bothered me so much i took it to the volvo dealer and they told me that it was actually because of the suspension software and that there was a recall for this, however it was not applicable for my vin.he said this was the best guess he could make, i informed him that it only makes the noise if you make a pretty gentle shift, but it can happen at any time.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that while driving in wet conditions at approximately 50 mph, with all wheel drive engaged, the exhaust system would expand, causing it to rub against the drivetrain. The failure caused a loud noise underneath the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to an authorized dealership to have an exhaust bracket applied. The contact felt that the manufacturer should have been responsible for the repair expenses as it was unsafe to have moving objects rubbing against each other. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

I have 2004 volvo s60volvo . I was trying to raise my vehicle on the oem jack came with my car to change the wheel. After few second i removed my tire , the jack collapsed - and my car came crashing down. I was lucky as i had stuck my head into the wheel well moments before to check my brake pads and rotors, and had my fingers around the suspension linkages.

Late last summer, upon starting up my car, i noticed a hissing noise coming from the center panel on the dashboard.didn't really think anything of it until i tried to turn on the air conditioner and the car made the same hissing noise.noise lasts only 5-10 seconds upon startup of the car or the ac, but now the ac only blows hot air.took car to volvo dealership here in southern california where i purchased the car and they said that they were going to have to rip open the entire front panel to investigate the problem.as i have been told twice previously by this dealership that i need service that i did not really need (this was now the third time), i chose to hold off on letting them perform such a task.instead, i took the car to another mechanic and described the problem to him.he let me know that when there was no freon left in the ac unit.they replaced it and within one day, it had completely leaked.they then performed an inspection on the ac and either the compressor or the hoses has a major leak in it.i have no accidents and the car has less than 60,000 miles on it currently.the problem was first detected at less than 45,000 miles on it.estimate on repair was $1500+.at 22,500 mile checkup, volvo replaced radiator on car.mechanic said that it was possible that volvo dealership may have damaged the ac unit at that time since they are in close proximity.in addition, as i noticed on another person's complaint form, i also have the rubbing of the front tires when turning.quite annoying and i do my best to avoid the friction at all costs.doesn't occur on normal turns, just when maneuvering for parking spaces or getting out of my parking garage.

2004 s60 volvo alarm system service required. I've owned more than 8 different cars older than this car, and they never had any issue with the alarm. It seems to be very common to replace the alarm module in this volvo model because of the acid leak from the battery that causes a short in the circuit. And yes it will happen again after the replacement. What a ripoff. *ln

Bulbs continuously burns out causing errors that cannot be readily fix by the owner.bulbs such as for headlights, turn signals and rear lights burn out constantly.we are averaging a bulb replacement every 2 months.

About every 2-3 month when i go to start my volvo s60 the front left light blows out.i have had my car for a little over a year and have had to replace the headlamps 5 times.the first time i changed the lights i did not wear gloves so it could have possible been my fault. Everytime after i have worn gloves to change the lights and still have the same problem.

Purchased auto new. It would seem that i have had some of the same problems mentioned by others. Car stalling on highway at 65 miles per hour, twice, very scary. Pulled off and restarted. (fuel pressure sensor malfunction) seems there is a recall however when i inquired my vin # was not included. Costly repair as must purchase part from dealer. Driver side head lamp, low beam, has been replaced so often lost track, over half a dozen times, is out now! have never replaced passenger side lamp! i point out the other s60's i see on the road with a headlamp light out to my kids as a game now.

Consumer noticed that the right front headlight lamp was inoperative.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that the head lamp blew out and needed to be replaced. It would cost the consumer $1,200.00 to get it replaced. Please provide further details. A pebble from the street made a small hole in the glass in front of the headlamp.moisture intruded into the lamp casing. Due tothe heat intensity of the lamp, it short-circuited.the design of the head lamp system does not allow for the swipe replacement of the lamp.the hole in the glass causes need for the entire $1200 system to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle stalled while the contact decelerated to make a turn. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the fuel rail pressure sensor was defective. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60.while driving approximately 25 mph, there was no response when the accelerator pedal was depressed.suddenly, the engine stalled.there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.roadside assistance was called to the scene and the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for inspection.the technician started the engine, but was unable to duplicate the failures.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic on a separate occasion for identical failures and the contact was informed that the fuel pressure sensor failed.the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 07v226000 (engine and engine cooling), although the failures were identical.the vehicle was repaired at the contact's expense.the failure and current mileages were 77,000.

I was driving about 65 miles an hour in the left hand lane of an interstate yesterday when my car stalled and died.the volvo dealership states it is not subject to recall, yet the incident is identical to problem described in nhtsa campaign number 07v226000.

2004 volvo s60 r awd with less than 65,000 miles started leaking fuel that is running down the passenger side of the gas tank and there is a very strong pungent gas odor emitted from the passenger side of the rear of the vehicle. Took the car to volvo of georgetown and local volvo mechanic who both told me that the vehicle needed a new fuel pump but i was not covered under the s60 fuel pump recall a few years prior. Big safety hazard and concern!

Loss acceleration in the vehicle on the highway at 60 mph.the car would not speed up and continue to slow down but never came to a full stop.i was not able to go pass 40 mph in the car and acceleration was slow. First time it happen, the dealer said throttle body and oil collection system needed to be replaced.i replaced both.it happens again, took it to a different person, the mechanic said fuel control needed to be replaced.i replaced that.it happen the third time and took it to dealer and he informed me the spark plugs.i replaced that.now, the problem is still happening.

The engine light came on in my 2004 volvo s60r. The car would loose acceleration and also stalled. Volvo said it was the fuel pressure sensor and that it had been recalled by volvo- recall # 07v226000. But the vin # of my car was not included in the recall. It was the same part that was recalled on other 2004 s60s. Why not on the r as well?

I had my car in for service at my local volvo repair shop and one of the items i had them investigate was a fuel smell.they told me they found a crack at fuel pump sender rh side.they mentioned that they thought there was a recall for this since they have seen it several times before and that i should contact my volvo dealer.i just looked online and found what they were talking about but it does not list the state where i purchased the vehicle and reside?i am the original owner.the repair shop did contact a local dealer for me and the dealer told them that there was not a recall? i guess i will contact some other local dealers this week and see what they say?seems like colorado should have been added to this recall every state near us is part of it.if i cant get this repaired under the recall what should i do to make it happen?

While driving 70 mph, car lost acceleration and stalled without warning.if i would have been rear ended going at this speed i could have lost my life.check engine light came on and all codes are associated with the 181 recall.called volvo and volvo stated that this vin number was not part of the recall yet i am experiencing the same exact problem and have the same exact engine codes when running a diagnostics test associated with this recall.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds, she noticed that there was an odor of gasoline. A fuel leak was also discovered. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised her that the seam of the fuel tank was rotted and needed to be replaced. The entire fuel tank was replcaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.

My car was dying on the highway or on a regular street road.ended up being the fuel pressure sensor which is on the recall list but didn't come up for my vin.i was dealing with this for 6 months or so and it was very dangerous.i don't understand why my car isn't on the recall list.any help is appreciated.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle would lose power and exhibit a sudden increase in engine rpms before the vehicle accelerated. In addition, the check engine warning light illuminated intermittently. The dealer diagnosed that the fuel pressure sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of failure. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. While turning on the vehicle, the contact noticed that the check engine light had illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the fuel pressure sensor was the cause for the light. The dealer reset the sensor. The light illuminated again so the vehicle was taken back to the dealership where the contact was informed that fuel sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 93,000.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60.while driving 75 mph, the contact stated that she applied pressure to the accelerator pedal; however, she was unable to accelerate when she noticed that the check engine warning light illuminated.the dealer had not been notified.the manufacturer was aware of the failure.the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that the fuel regulator pressure sensor had failed and needed to be replaced.no repairs were performed.the current mileage was 73,000.the approximate failure mileage was 72,600.

My car stalled twice at low speed, both times was able to re-start immediately.after the 2nd incident, the check engine light illuminated with a generic obd-ii code of p0192.online research has found this code relates to thefailure of the vehicle's fuel pressure sensor.volvo has recall #r-181 in place but i am told by volvo care that my car is excluded from eligibility for this recall based on the chassis number - despite having the same engine code (61) and experiencing the same issue as described in the volvo recall notice. I have found a number of similar complaints on various website forums and even this (nhtsa) website.it would seem to me that volvo may have to re-visit the criteria for how they determined which vehicles are affected by this faulty fuel pressure sensor.having to pay $300+ out of pocket for a known faulty product is insulting.

I own a 2004 volvo s60. I recently found out that there is a recall on my vehicle after my mechanic told me my check engine light was due to this recall. Volvo says there is no such recall at first, but upon calling the customer service number i found out that there is. However, they say it is vin specific and that mine is not covered. My mechanic says that this needs to be taken care of, for this problem can cause my engine to stall out at anytime and cause my steering wheel to jerk around on the highway. To me, this is a huge problem, sounds like that it could potentially kill me on the road. How can something that can be this potentially dangerous not be volvos responsibility to fix? just because my vin number is different does not mean the problem is any less serious, though volvo seems to think it is.

Took vehicle to a volvo dealership for a regularly scheduled oil change.the service advisor reported that the fuel pressure sensor (fps) is a critical component, that it failed and needed to be replaced.he said that volvo would pay 50% for the part and charge me the warranty labor rate. They would not tell me in advance the total cost.as i was leaving, another service advisor told a person over the telephone they needed a fuel pressure sensor and would get 50% off.a few days later a friend took her s40 to this dealer and was told she needed a fuel pressure sensor to fix her actual fuel system problem (it did not).the odds of a person learning about 3 volvos needing fuel pressure sensor replacements in this manner seems phenomenal.as such, it appears that either: 1) volvo's fuel pressure sensors have a high fault rate; 2) volvo understated the cars to include in its recall campaign number r181; 3) cars included in the recall campaign are being charged for the repair; or 4) the question of how volvo is / is not managing the dealer to determine if there is a high incidence of fuel pressure sensor failures on the cars being serviced during that time period and the reasons for those failed fuel pressure sensors.nhtsa should require volvo to supply statistics and records (probably a simple volvo database search) for all vehicles receiving new fuel pressure sensors and identify whether: 1) the repair was included in recall number r181; 2) the non-recall fps customer was charged for the repair; 3) the non-recall fps customer was not charged for the repair.and, for those vehicles, the nhtsa should require volvo to provide the plant, production date, and chassis number. Running the report in model number and chassis number order (chronological order) of all cars with fps problem would likely aid the nhtsa in determining whether the extent of the fps problem and accuracy of the volvo's recall campaign number r181.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that the vehicle would fail to accelerate when driving at various speeds. The contact also stated that the vehicle would intermittently stall during the failure. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and an independent repair shop to have the failure diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was due to the fuel pressure system. The contact was also informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 09v483000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). The failure mileage was 67,000.

On september 18 i was traveling down interstate 10 when my 2004 volvo s60 completely stopped running while going 70 mph.i was unable to get the car out of the traffic (no power to drive to the shoulder).my car was completely useless.i called 911 and roadside assistance to get help before i was hit (i was unable to exit the vehicle due to moving traffic on either side of me).after 50 minutes i was hit in the rear.the vehicle was towed to bergeron volvo.i was informed that the fuel pump had failed.there was no warning and the vehicle had just been in for service 1 month before.it only has 24,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact was driving 60 mph when the vehicle lost power and stalled. The contact stated that there was no warning prior to the failure. The contact waited 15 minutes and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who stated that the fuel pressure was the cause of the failure. The contact referenced recall 09v483000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump) but was told by the dealer that the vehicle was not included. The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60r. The contact was driving approximately 10 mph, the engine completely stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The engine restarted and the vehicle began functioning normally. The failure continued to occur sporadically. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced, and also advised the contact of nhtsa recall campaign id number 09v483000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired; however, the volvo model year 2004 s60r was not included in the recall. The 2004 volvo s60 was included in the recall defect. The vehicle was being repaired at the owner's expense. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000. Updated 2/28/11 updated 03/03/11

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph the vehicle stalled and the check engine light illuminated on the instrumental panel. The vehicle restarted within a few minutes. The vehicle was then inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that the fuel pump and the engine cooling system had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000.

Strong fuel odor emitting from passenger side of vehicle.observed gas stains covering outside of gas tank.returned to dealer and dealer replaced fuel pump.since then, no odors.however, auto continues to hesitate when driving.in one instance, car stalled in heavy traffic and was nearly rear ended.

Strong fuel smell coming from inside vehicle.fuel pump leaking.the defect was noted on 2001-2002 model years but needs to be extended to 2004 for vehicles in nevada.

I have a volvo s60 2004.around january 2007, it started stalling without warning in the middle of the highway at 60 mph.it did this about 3 times in 2 weeks, so i took it to the volvo dealer.they couldn't reproduce the problem, but supposedly upgraded the software and cleaned the throttle intake, and returned the car to me.the car was fine until march 6, when the same problem occurred.the car is currently back at the shop where they have told me they have found nothing wrong and are going to return the car to me.i would not like to get killed on the highway, and as i have seen that this has been reported before on other internet sites, its worth reporting here.

Volvo s60, 2004 recall letter dated january 15, 2010.

The engine light came on in my 2004 volvo s60. The car would loose acceleration. Took it to our mechanic and he said it was the fuel pressure sensor and that it had been recalled by volvo- recall # 07v226000. Took it to the dealer and they said that the vin # of my car was not included in the recall. It was the same part that was recalled on other 2004 s60s. The cost was $450 to repair.

I have had the same problem of the car stalling around turns and on abrupt stops.it seemed to first be resolved by the recall of the pressure sensor.recently though the car has been stalling sometimes 5 times per day when doing the same.the dealer claims it is a pvc problem that needs to be cleaned and wants to charge $1000 dollars to do it.

While fueling the vehicle, gasoline bubbles up and out through the filler neck, leaving a large puddle of gasoline on the ground.this generally happens when the tank is less than half full.

2004 volvo s60 fuel pressure sensor.volvo issued a recall for this for 2003-2004 models.my car had this problem and its symptoms (car stalling).volvo dealership said my car did not fall into recall due to vin # break.volvo corporation never bothered to return my calls.i feel that i should be reimbursed for this repair as it clearly meets the recall description.

Fuel pressure sensor functioning outside of its normal parametersecm code 2600. There is recall on the problem but dealer will not replace the sensor free of charge. Recall #07v226000

Fuel pump leaked. Smell gas. Scared it may catch fire. Expensive repair. Volvo is refusing to honor recall because (1) vehicle purchased in nj (though has spent life in va) and (2) work done at non-volvo mechanic. Due to the severity of the issue, i took it to the nearest mechanic rather than risk driving it to dealer and having it catch fire.

March 2014: i was travelling ona divided highway at 55 mph and the car stalled. Mechanic stated it was the fuel pump.mar 2015 : this same event occurred again.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The check engine warning light illuminated. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel rail pressure sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed at the dealer. The contact was informed that the fuel pressure sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 07v226000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

I just recently went to a dealer for a gas fuel leak. They noticed a crack in the holder. The mechanic also asked me to check for a recall before fixing due to this being a common problem with some volvos. I am also noticing there is a powersteering leakage somewhere because im constantly putting in powersteering. Please take my complaint in consideration due to it being life threating and i have children who i have to carry around in that vehicle. If its a defective equitment on volvo im asking for immediate replacement. For safety

Gasoline fill overflows frequently when putting in fuel, regardless of amount of fuel already in the tank.

Engine stalls....multiple times

Car stalled whilst breaking

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that while traveling 30 mph the instrument panel began to illuminate then the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was able to be restarted to proceed to the contact's destination. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was found that the fuel injector had failed. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 09v483000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump). The failure and current mileage was 86,100.

The car had fuel pump replaced on 06/30/11 and again (under parts warranty) after being towed on 05/14/13. On june 10, 2013 the car had to be towed to dealer again with fuel supply issues. After much analysis, it was concluded that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The price quoted for the part was $2447 and labor $1400. The fuel pump apparently has an inner connector seal (or ring and clip) that is integral to the tank (cannot be replace separately) that was popping loose under pressure. After much debate with volvo of north america, they got approval to give me the part at half price--still $1223 plus around $900 labor. In discussing this with the shop foreman, he had talked to volvo regional people one the lookout for flaws. They were aware of this problem, and although it was rare it had happened on several occasions to metal talks that are 'california' specs. Although volvo is aware of the problem, they have not notified owners or done a recall but are requiring those with the defective part to discover it and pay for repairs on their own. I think volvo should refund my repair costs and notify other owners who have the same fuel tank.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that while driving a various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was restarted and functioned normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the fuel pressure sensor was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 127,000.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated as soon as the engine was started. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic, who advised the contact that the fuel pressure sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 116,000.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that while parked, the vehicle was leaking a large amount of fuel. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 97,000.

I have a 2006 volvo s-60 and the interior door panel on passenger side failed which leads to the passenger not being able to exit the vehicle.

2004 volvo s60 ignition key failure: key refused to turn car will not start. Car will not go in to neutral. Car must be abandoned occupants must seek transportation.first occurrenceapril 17th 2008. Second occurrence july 5th. 2010.car towed to dealer and ignition lock replaced both times.total cost$1662.48.

Good afternoon,we have experienced a catastrophic failure of the emergency brake, whereby the brake lining of the e-brake is of an "organic" compound and according to the volvo technician "swells" when it gets wet, causing the e-brake to lock-up.my bride was in our neighborhood when this occurred, causing the entire braking assembly and associated parts to be ripped and busted loose.volvo charged us $2100 in parts and labor to "fix" this.volvo techs did say that this happens alot, but alot at speed (faster than 25mph).can you imagine this e-brake lock-up at highway speeds.how frequently has this happened?i have pictures of the affected parts. This is totally unsafe and volvo knows about it.

Parking brake pad delaminated from shoe: dislodged after driving over a bump in the road and became wedged into rear spindle causing wheel to lock up and resulted in major damage to brake and wheel components.1 occurrence, required replacement of left rear rotor, backing plate, spindle, parking brake shoes (both sides) and parking brake cable.

Angle gear failure in volvo s60r awd.

While driving 45 miles per hour and about to get on the on ramp on to i-10.car lost all acceleration and came to a complete stop.

2004 s60awd angle gear leak required replacement of gear at 14,300 miles.the angle gear sends power to the rear wheels, and if it fails, it takes the transmission with it.while mine was caught early and replaced under warranty, a track record of the angle gear leaking and failingis being seen.volvo needs to extend warranty on this item.

Volvo s60 2004, 9000 miles, automatic transmission.while leaving a traffic light (accelerating) and at a speed of about 20 mph the engine suddenly stopped.no power for steering and brakes. What could happen if the defect occurred on the highway? the car was serviced at volvo garage according to maintenance program (6000 miles). Now they said that the defect wasdue to the air admission system, which was foundto be dirty.

When accelerating from a stop, the transmission seems to skip a gear. This results in uneven acceleration, making merging into traffic hazardous. It only happens sporadically.

I was driving my 2004 volvo s60. There were no adverse driving conditions, and i was driving normally. I went to put my s60 in park, and it would not go past neutral into either reverse or park. My s60 has a geartronic transmission (geartronic is essentially the brand name of the volvo manumatic transmission. Source:http://www.ehow.com/info_7784643_geartronic-transmission.html#ixzz1k1hj4jpr)this is a safety issue because of the fact that if i needed to go into reverse i couldn't, and because i could not shift into park and therefore could not remove my key from the ignition. There were no noticeable events leading up to this failure of the geartronic transmission shift knob, but it is a valid safety issue, and may result in a recall if this failure occurs in more volvos with the geartronic transmission. Any information you can gather from volvo dealers and other reputable volvo service businesses can potentially gather enough issues with the geartronic transmission shift knob to issue a recall.this issue, if it has occurred or does occur in other volvos with the geartronic transmission and gear shift knob, may cause the driver to not be able to shift into or out of certain gears, and may result in the cars not being able to be put into park. This could result in said vehicles rolling after turned off. Also, the key will not come out of said vehicles if they are not able to be shifted into park.

Vehicle with automatic transmission has a serious design flaw that results in a serious delay when decelerating rapidly.the delay makes it seem as though the throttle has "stuck" for 2-3 tenths of a second.the "r" is touted as a performance vehicle and this delay in throttle response is down right dangerous when the vehicle is driven hard.this delay occurs every time one decelerates quickly from full throttle.volvo says it is "normal"..

Transmission flare.

The gear shift head disintegrated in my hand as i shifted from park into drive causing the vehicle unable to be shifted into any gear but "drive".could not turn off the vehicle, but was able to drive into the nearest volvo dealer.consequences could have been dire if i had to stop for a road/police emergency.

Yes my passenger side seat belt just randomly locked up. My car has never been in any crashes i didn't stop short for it to lock up. I went to put it on and it would only pull half way out and then when it went back it it stuck. It won't come out at all at all now. I can't pass inspection without it working.

Just leaving my garage, we smelled something and immediately saw smoke coming from the left side of the driver seat.the seat warmer was on.we turned the warmer off and opened the doors.the odor and smoke dissipated but there is a 1-1/2" hole burned in the leather.

Burning passenger seat in 2004 volvo s60r.while driving i smelt a horrible burning smell and seen smoke coming from the passenger seat which eventually started a fire. I turned off the heated seats and now have a burn about an inch in diameter. This is very dangerous and should be recalled immediately. This is a serious safety issue that needs to be addressed. Not happy with this at all! glad no one got hurt!

Drivinghome from church,, smoke started coming from the drivers seat, from the heated seat. Burned a hole thru the leather . Was able to turn off the switch and put some snow into the golf size hole and pulled the fuse to the elect heat switch. No further damage was noticed .city street. The hole is about 11/2 in belowleft side beading and closer to front of seat. Leather seat in very good codition and non smoker. Garage keep.

The driver seat overheated, apparently from a malfunctioning seat warmer, causing combustion. The fire burned through the seat padding, outer leather covering, and the driver's clothing. It burned into a wallet in the driver's back pocket, which protected the driver from a burn. The burn hole in the seat is about the size of a nickel.

While driving vehicle noticed very strong burning smell. Felt burning sensation through slack leg while still driving. Noticed a hole had burned through leather on rear left side of drivers seat. Smoke was pumping out of hole in leather (appx 1/2-inch round) from seat padding. I immediately turned seat warmer off and the burning stopped. An hour later, i turned seat warmer on while auto was running. Smoke began coming out of seat hole within about 30-45 seconds. Turned off seat warmer immediately. Burning stopped. Very dangerous situation. Inside of auto now stinks of burned plastic/foam.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that while the heated driver side seat was in the on position, a burning odor started to emit inside the vehicle. After inspecting the vehicle, the contacted discovered a flame coming from the side of the driver seat. The contact indicated that the flame self extinguished. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 107,000.updated 4/7/15

Heated seat shorted when turned on on drivers side and burned me while driving.

Due to the size of the head restraints and the width of the columnbetween front and rear windows, the driver has no visibility to the rear when looking over the left shoulder. *ph

Driver's seat on 2004 volvo s60r unexpectedly moves after unlocking car and opening the driver's door.volvo says system is working as designed.they say that the seat must be moved to the desired position with the ignition turned on.if it is moved with the ignition off, it will return to the last position it was moved to with the ignition turned on every time the car is unlocked.there is almost a foot difference in height between my wife and me. She has opened the left rear door, placed items on the floor behind the driver's seat then opened the driver's door, which caused the driver's seat to move backwards to my position crushing the items on the floor.i have repeatedly opened the driver's door at night, had the seat move to her position without realizing it, stepped in and hit my head on the door opening.i'm being told i have to get into the car with the seat forward, turn on the ignition, then move the seat to the desired position to prevent the system malfunction i have described.once you are sitting down the buttons on the side of the seat are hard to find, especially at night.this is a computerized nightmare that could be fixed with a software upgrade if volvo were motivated to do so.the safe thing would be for the seat to stay where we left it.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that he activated the heated seats and after a matter of minutes, smoke bellowed from the side of the driver's seat.

I am writing about what may be design flaw with the volvo s60r that has me very concerned. My front tires rub on the body in the wheel well when i turn sharply into a parking space. I don't think it should do that but i've been told it's "normal" and the car "settles" as it gets older. Several other volvo s60 owners have this same problem where the tires rub on the body. Please look into this. I believe it will cause serious consequences in an emergency situation and it's wearing down the edge of the tires prematurely, which may also be dangerous.

The 2.4l 2004 volvo s60 experiences erratic behavior and engine failure when operating multiple concurrent electrical systems. When these systems (operated within specified guidelines) are used concurrently they cause the following conditions: engine failure, loss of power steering, loss of brakes. The following is a list of electrical channels that have been used to trigger the engine failure: brakes, indicator lights (right or left) heated seats (x2) front windshield defrostmultiple s60 model owners have reported having experienced this same engine failure which cannot be detected by the manufactures diagnostics test. When tested the battery, alternator and computer all present positive read-outs. The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60r. The contact was traveling 12 mph when the front passenger lower control arm detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a local repair shop. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the vin failed to qualify for repairs under nhtsa campaign id number:04v029000 (steering:linkages). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 135,000.

For safety

I was driving my 2004 volvo s60 on the nj turnpike.winds reported that day to be up to 50 mph and i am driving at around 50 to 60 mph when i heard a loud sound from the rear of my car.i started to slow down to enter onto the breakdown lane on the turnpike dragging the bumper as i pulled over.when i got out to inspect i found that my bumper cover have blew off of the car and was hanging on due to a wire that was connected to it on the right side.i called my volvo dealer and was offered an appt to bring it in.the service manager along with his regional rep is disputing that this could have happened.they are saying that they have never heard of this before and that it could not have happened because it has never happened and will not take responsibility for the replacement unless it is paid for by me.neither the dealer or the rep is concerned about the safety of this incident and why this actually happened.it is by the grace of god that this bumper cover did not completely dislodge causingfatalities to occur had the wind blew it in the path of other cars on the roads.not only am i not getting good service volvo is not concerned about safety which is the core of their commitment to the consumers.my character and my integrity and credibility is being challenged by the service manager and his regional rep rather the reason for the bumper coming off in this way.my confident in the safety of the car and volvo customer service has been destroyed.vovlo is saying that this is the first time they have heard of a bumper blowing off.there is always a first and being the first does not indicated that it's impossible to have happened.

I have a 2006 volvo s-60 and the interior door panel on passenger side failed which leads to the passenger not being able to exit the vehicle.

When i drive my manual transmission s60r volvo, and i shift i hear a loud thud in the back of the car, i checked everything that could possibly be making the noise and secured it,it bothered me so much i took it to the volvo dealer and they told me that it was actually because of the suspension software and that there was a recall for this, however it was not applicable for my vin.he said this was the best guess he could make, i informed him that it only makes the noise if you make a pretty gental shift, but it can happen at any time.

Loud noise from rear wheels.first thought to be worn tires.turned out to be the bearings failed.caused damage to speed sensor, rotor, rear axle drive shaft.car shook violently as speeds where reduced.dealer will not fix problem.all parts to be replaced at owners expense.

2004 volvo s60 r with 18" tires. Inside driver tire contacts inside driver tire wall. Wear will cause premature tire failure. Dealer has always maintained that this "rubbing" is not a problem. I have complained multiple times. I have photos of the tire damage. The side wall and corner tread is worn through to the steel belt and cord. I have been told that this is not due to alignment, but matches up with the rubbing of the tire well wall.

Front tires are rubbing the body on the inside of the tire. Vehicle has original wheels and tires. Chronic problem with volvo.

The contact owns a 2004 volvo s60. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, there was a sudden loss of engine power without warning. The current and failure mileage were both 26800.

On 1/6/07 i was traveling via interstate when the 2004 volvo s60t experienced what was displayed on the screen as reduced engine performance, and quickly slowed to about 40 mph. I was very nearly rear-ended as i was in the fast lane in the process of passing a slower vehicle. I proceeded to the nearest exit and coasted into a gas station. I turned off the car and tried to restarted it.however, itmade a loudnoise, shook, and then failed to crank. It was towed to the nearest volvo dealership, where they informed me it was a faulty throttle body (etm).the car only had 58,000 miles , 8,000 out of warranty. The repairs included removing and cleaning the etm, replacing the throttle body, and etm software reloaded for a total of $14,000. 3 months later, while i was in the hospital giving birth, my husband experienced the same malfunction on the way to the hospital, lost power, and had to get alternate transportation. We traded the car immediately without repair.
