I have a volvo s60 2002- with very low miles at 114.000.it has been garage kept a majority of it's life and is truly in mint condition.i recently took the vehicle to volvo for maintenance check up (understandably) and also because an air-bag light came on.it reads srs airbag service urgent. Now i'm not a mechanic, but basically the airbag is in tact but the instrument cluster or dim has failed.since it wasn't the airbag itself i wasn't sure how they were related and they explained that the cluster signals were not necessarily reaching the airbag.as a mother and knowing volvo has a lot of airbags i was curious as to which ones were affected and they said they can not guarantee that any of them would deploy in a crash.now this is a costly problem $2300 as well as very common as i see in the forums.like i said, my car is in quite good condition aside from normal maintenance for it's age, but i do not believe the dim to be normal maintenance. Additionally, because of the cost and the difficulty of this type of issue, owners are being forced to diy it themselves and send their dashes to some company in canada.now if it only affected my radio or interior lights, etc. Which it doesn't, i would probably send it off to canada too.but with it having to do with the most important part of the car- the airbags and volvo being the top rated for safety features, my confidence is very low and i think someone needs to step in.the thing is, volvos are supposed to easily last up to 300,000.but with faulty computers that have to do with the airbag (even though the airbag itself is fine), owners are being forced to rid their cars, trade them in, etc. Because of this issue.we need to encourage the importance of airbags to consumers who are ignoring having this fixed because of the cost and prevent injuries ahead of time.

While driving in the dark, power to the electronics listed below were lost inevitably and many warning lights/messages appeared on the dash (also listed below under symptoms). There were no warning signs that this was about to happen nor is there any explanation for why it happened. I was driving on a dark road and i lost complete vision of the road due to headlight failure (both low and high beams). This scenario is a common safety issue associated with many other similar volvo years and models. I had to stop the car immediately to avoid crashing and call someone to pick me up. All symptoms from this "blackout" did not and have not disappeared since it happened, making the car undrivable. These symptoms are suspect to be the result of a cem failure, which also controls emissions. As stated previously, this exact scenario has caused thousands of similar volvo years and models to be recalled/repaired on volvo's behalf. Unfortunately, my vehicle model has not been placed under recall for this extremely, dangerous safety defect. I would like to see action taken against volvo and repair costs covered on their behalf.symptoms:brake failure stop safely warning messageengine system service required warning messagesrs airbag service urgent warning messagelow beam headlights not workinghigh beams headlights not workingcheck engine light onabs light ontraction control light onodometer not workingradio not workingpower seats & heated seats not working12v sockets (front & rear) not workingtrip odometer not workingclock reset.

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60.the contact was driving 10 mph when another vehicle crashed into the driver side of the vehicle which caused the contact to strike her head on the window and suffer injuries.the front and side air bags did not deploy and the vehicle was destroyed. The contact called the manufacturer regarding the non-deployment of the air bags and the manufacturer stated that they would send an investigator to examine why the air bags did not deploy.she stated that if the side air bags would have deployed, she would not have struck the window.the failure mileage was 148,000. The vin was not available.

1) driver's seat shifts rearward on acceleration and shifts forward on braking.dealer has attempted to fix this problem 3 or more times, but it re-ppears shortly after repair.this is a safety issue.2) vehicle difficult to shift gears (manual transmission).gear changes are very 'jerky', the vehicle cannot be shifted smoothly.volvo recommends letting the clutch slip more, but this only masks the problem.3) volvo acknowledges an electromagnetic radiation problem with this vehicle, but refuses to fix it.this is a safety issue.

Electrical panel fails (gas gauge says empty), passenger and rear door locks, fuel door, and trunk opening also fails. Incredibly dangerous as cannot open the doors unless pulling the door lock up manually from inside the car so therefore can't get to children in the backseat without crawling through the front seat and manually unlocking their door. Have no idea how much gas is in the car because gas gauge fails and cannot get fuel door to open consitently making it difficult to refuel. Car alarm went off in the middle of the night and could not open the car doors to turn it off because of electrical failure and therefore battery drained. It is really dangerous to not be able to lock and unlock the car doors. A child could get trapped in the vehicle or someone could get into the car for fear of locking doors and not being able to get them unlocked. This problem is all over the internet -rear electrical module failure and volvo needs to address as is a safety hazard.

Recently purchased 2002 volvo s60 for my daughter, certified used. She was driving and the car just stopped running, it died in the middle of the road. Just read your article about 1999-2001 and thought you should check into all years. Volvo said it is fixed, we pick it up tomorrow, however i am very concerned that this will happen to her again. Purchased a volvo for safety, now i am very worried.

On a car that is driven 7,500 miles per year, i just spent $1,068 to replace an alternator and $157.18 for a new battery because volvo refused to have a recall or cover their known failing alternators. This cause my car to fail on the 101 freeway and left me stranded in traffic on milbrae avenue.

Thought you may be interested in my volvo s60 story ... My volvo dealer returned my s60 12 months before the lease was up because of a recurring problem where my car would not accelerate and then it would stop completely.i lost count of the number of times this happened but when my 19 year old had this happen in the middle of a downtown area i could not live with this car any longer.the dealer tried to fix the vehicle to no avail.

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60. The contact was driving approximately 45 mph with the air conditioner activated when it suddenly failed without warning and would only blow outside air into the vehicle cabin. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was advised that the compressor and receiver dryer would need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 152,000 and the current mileage was 170,000.updated 11/16/10. *ljupdated 5/24/11

We purchased a 2002 volvo s60 1/21/06 at 1:30pm with 58542 miles on it and 62 miles later at 6:54pm we were having problems with the accelerator pedal not responding, the engine accelerating wildly and then no control over the engine as it has gone into a limp mode.we shut the car off for 10 minutes and started the car up and it drove normally so we could get home.upon getting home and shutting the car off, the problems occurred again and the computer dispalyed no codes when plugged into diagnostic equipment.the problem happened again 1/22/06 and we called the used car dealer to have them pick the car up and they took the vehicle to their garage and i was informed 1/23/06 that there is nothing in the computer and the car is running fine right now.i informed them of the etm warranty which should be a recall and they are going to contact langhorne volvo to see if the parts can be replaced free of charge.this is a safety issue that needs a permanent resolution and not an extended warranty.

Vehicle gauges tend to all go off and all dials go down as if vehicle isn't on. This is a common problem among volvos andthis hasn't been recalled. I was driving at least 70 mph on the highway and this happened to me.

There were four occupants in the vehicle.as we were driving home from the mall, we noticed a brief interruption in the lights and radio.a few miles down the road, there was an electrical failure and the car shut off in the middle of the road, but we were able to get it cranked back up in less than a minute.we drove approximately two more miles and pulled into our driveway and shut the car off.we heard a sound like an alarm, but it was so faint; before we had time to think about it further, the cab began to fill with blackish grey smoke into the backseat area.we all got out quickly and walked to the back of the car.i noticed flames behind the driver side tail light (where the battery is located) and told my husband.he opened the trunk (burning his fingertips), and flames shot up into the air.i immediately called 911 because the flames were high and fast-moving.the 911 dispatcher instructed us to stay away from the car and not try to put the fire out due to the obvious dangers of a fast-moving car fire.the fire department arrived within five minutes and began putting the fire out; however, the car was a total loss up to the engine, which was not burned.after inspection, the fire department deemed it a loss due to an electrical fire.i have contacted volvo, but they have not responded to me as of yet.there have been several recalls on this particular vehicle, and we are worried that volvo may have missed one.for the safety of others, i am reporting this safety hazard.the car remains in our driveway awaiting insurance adjustment; however, i am hopeful that either volvo or someone who does safety inspections would claim the car to investigate the cause of the fire further.

The vehicle would not start. There was full battery power and the computer stated it was the immobilizer check manual. Several attempts were made and car sat overnight.the volvo s60 restarted in the morning. The car ran fine for a day and would not start again. Dealership stated that the antenna ring or key chip might be bad. The antenna ring was changed and the car would not start a week later again. The car was taken to dealer ship and placed on scanner. The car function normally for two weeks and did not start again. Several blogs concerning this matter have been set up without any answers for the consumer. The dealerships scanned the vehicle and changed parts and the problem still persists. In my case the dealership stated that it did show a problem. Yet the problem is not fixed. Consumers are being stranded or in my case stranded several times for hours until the vehicle starts later.

The driver's control door module (ddm) has failed (very common on the s60). This module controls the windows, door locks, rear-view mirrors, and child-safety locks on the rear doors.now, both rear doors are permanently locked, and can only be opened with the outside door handles.i feel this is a safety issue.a new replacement unit from volvo will solve this issue, but volvo dealers charge about $800.a used ddm will not work, due to the software addressing scheme used by volvo.

On a 2002 volvo s60, the driver's information module intermittently blanks out rendering the vehicle with no speedometer and fuel gauge.the speedometer (and whole module) might not work for days. *ln

While driving at high speeds, the rear of the vehicle would spin if the vehicle was turned too far in either direction.the dealer could not determine the problem, but there was a lack of stability in the rear of the vehicle.the control arm bushing was replaced.the consumer stated that the vehicle lost control, the console had failed, the locks had become inoperative, grinding noises would occur on sharp turns, and the vehicle would lose traction. *scc

My 2002 volvo s60 stalled about 3 times in the period of a few months during the spring of 2005.it occurred only while i was driving in stop and go traffic.i was able to restart the car.i took it into the volvo dealership.they ran all kinds of tests, but could find nothing wrong.they replaced the mass airflow sensor anyway on may 10, 2005 and the problem seemed to go away - until oct 6.it stalled again while i was at a stop light.on october 19, six driving days later (i travel out of town a lot for my job), it stalled again in stop and go traffic on the freeway.i know that you have had similar complaints about this, but not for a 2002 model.i thought that it was important to tell you about my problem as well.

Instrument cluster (known as driver information module) completely died while driving. Checked volvo forums online and see that this is a common problem. Replacement is the only option. $1500. Many people are driving without knowing their speed or fuel level. Me included. Can't afford $1500 repair bill. This should be a recall item.

The vehicle just stops while driving, all of the panel lights come on check engine lights.had to replace the ocm sensor and the ecm sensor mckivitt volvo in san leandro ([xxx]) service mgr.has never mention any type of recalls to the car.they also replaced the fuel injection at my cost.had to get a smog in aug 2013, check engine light has come back on not allowing me to smog with out repairs to oxygen sensors, during this visit my control arms were noticeably broken, they said nothing.i found out when i got the car back after them changing the oxygen sensors to pass smog and i got the smog and a oil change they notified me,i had them replaced by a cheaper mech in april 2014 @ 75,000 miles.now it's august 2014 and i was driving down very steep hill@ 45mph and the car just shut off causing limp mode and me hitting a curb to stop. Towed back to dealership@ 84,601 miles and being told it's normal, clean or replace the etm sensor now charging me $2,000. I have never received recall.i'm lost now without a vehicle. Isn't volvo supposed to fix this issue or do we have to die and then years later you guys at volvo corporation figure there was a malfunction.. Please let me know what to do??? all this service manager wants is money and doesn't care about anyone's safety.i was laughed at today being told that oh you've only travel 25,000 miand i've seen you 4 times since then,it's not a honda and you really have to put some muscle into it when it does this limp mode. I was scared to death along with my family and was laughed at in my face with a smile telling me he'll call and tell me how much$$$.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60. While driving various speeds, there was an abnormal fuel odor coming from the vehicle. The contact observed that the fuel pump module was leaking. The contact also observed that the instrument panel did not display the vehicle mileage. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60. While the vehicle was stopped and the contact attempted to accelerate, the vehicle shifted into limp home mode. The vehicle would only move 5 mph. The contact turned the vehicle off and restarted it; it performed correctly after the restart. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer three times where the software as update and the throttle modular and mass air flows were replaced. The contact referenced recall 06v441000 (vehicle speed control) was informed that the vehicle was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000 and the current mileage was approximately 98,000.

2002 volvo s60 suddenly stopped on a busy two-lane highway/complete electrical power system failure/unable to re-start car/car towed to dealer/dealer able to restart car after car sat untouched on lot for several days/two different volvo dealerships looked at car and were unable to explain why failure occurred/(car also had to have brake sensor pad replaced because of intermitant cruise control failure and shifting column lock up; still experience poor am radio reception while recharging cell phone)

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60. While the vehicle was in park, the contact noticed that the gauges, meters, and lights on the instrument cluster failed to function. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Purchased used s60 in november 2011 with 137,000 miles.a few weeks later various problems manifested: scrambled letters in dashboard message, driver door locks intermittently worked, radio self tuned to different station, speedometer giving false readings or stuck at current speed or reading zero, fuel gauge malfunction, all instruments on panel flickered, all instruments went "dark" while driving.at first restarting car would clear problem. Then frequency between failures increased. Just before complete failure - car needed to be "cold" for instruments to work - with instruments failing once engine warmed. Finally in february 2012 at about 147,021 miles the panel completely failed while driving - giving driver no readings (speed, fuel, temp, mileage, or warning indicators) and would not reset. Internet forums of volvo owners suggested it was a driver information module failure. Owners forums pinpointed 3 probable causes of a dim failure - 1. Loose connection of the motorola microchip, 2. Loose capacitor/resistor 3. Lack of protection from heat/heat transfer to individual prongs in microchip or between capacitor/resistor and the circuit board. Some electrically savvy owners fixed by reflowing/resoldering/heat protecting said components. Our local volvo dealer confirmed dim failure and quoted aprox. $1500 for a new instrument cluster and 3 hrs. Labor. We chose to send dim/instrument cluster out for a refurbishment to baa remanufacturing inc. On reinstallation warning message read "sra/airbag-service urgent". Asked dealer to clear dim code first, then from srs module per baa-reman instructions. Dealer job description/receipt stated they cleared codes dim 0001, 0003, 0005, 0006, e003, srs 00d4, e003.no problems with locks/radio/instrument cluster since remanufacture in the last 10,000 miles/5 months.volvo's original dim circuit board poorly designed/assembled.

Vin: [xxx]. While starting the car the last week the "engine check and service engine " warning lights lit up. I had it checked and found out the etm (electronic throttle module) is faulty. Called volvo usa and informed them of the problem but they told me my car, which is a turbo, is not part of their recall. If this type of problem is common to 360,000 volvos and warranty extended to 200,00 miles or 10 years why then are they (volvo) refusing to fix my etm problem. Since my car is experiencing the same etm malfunction, prior to their extended warranty expires, i would like to have my car be part of the volvo recall before serious consequence happens. So far nothing has been done with the problem. The warning light "engine checks and service engine" continue to lit up uninterrupted whenever the engine is running.

Sep 29,2006 my wife was driving home and the car shut off as she was making a turn. She also noted the signal lights and dash lights were acting erratically. Come monday we are scheduling a visit to the dealership. This appears to be a safety issue the reason being suppose she had been in highway traffic.

Car stalls on deceleration.

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60. The contact stated that whenever the vehicle was started, a random gauge would fail on the instrument panel, including the fuel gauge, speedometer and odometer. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The vin was not available. The current mileage was 152,000.

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60. The contact stated that while driving 40 to 50 mph the instrument cluster failed. She drovethe vehicle to the side of the road, turned the engine on and off and the failure continued to occur. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing and they stated the repair cost would be over $1000. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were 162,000.

I purchased a 2002 volvo 2.4t at the volvo of cerritos in california on may 11, 2002.three days after i purchased the vehicle, the car began making a loud rattling noise in the mornings.i recorded the noise and took the car in to the volvo of cerritos. I spoke to the service department and explained the problem my car had been experiencing. After a few days they called and told me that the car had a defective alternator pulley.they replaced the part and returned the car to me after six days.on saturday, june 8th, the noise returned.i contacted the dealership and was instructed to bring my car in to the service department on monday, june 10th. I spoke to the general manager jaki warren and explained my situation to her again and requested that she look in to getting me a new vehicle since it had been at the service department two times in less than 30 days for the same defective reason. She said she would contact someone at the volvo corporation and get back to me. The general manager has not returned my call as she agreed to do so earlier this week on monday.i left the car there and did not receive a call from the service department regarding the status of my car until 3 1/2 days later, thursday, 3:00pm.the service director stated he had not been able to hear the noise but had ordered some parts for what he "thought" the problem might be. I found this hard to believe being that i had heard the noise on saturday, sunday, and monday. Today he calls me at 5:00pm and tells me that he replaced the power steering pump! he said he heard the noise, yet it was not as loud as the first time.they "thought" that the power steering pump was causing the problem this time! this is absolutely absurd! my family's and my safety is at risk.yet this matter seems to be given no sense of urgency. I should not have to be experiencing this problem with a new 2002 vehicle under 300 miles.

The vehicle experienced problems with it's steering and gas pedal. When the vehicle was placed in park it continued to move.please provide any additional information.the ignition chip had to be replaced, because the vehicle failed to start. While driving, theconsumer was unable to control the vehicle, the vehicle would accelerate, the steering wheel was frozen and the windows were uncontrollably moving upward and downward, when the consumer placed the gear into park, the vehicle continued to move. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and it was determined that there was a defect with the axle.

I have had many problems with the transmission, car will stall in traffic, car would not start at all.this car has been in service many many times.the problems persist.i have sent 9 emails to their head quarters since 12/5, no reply.*la

The vehicle's ignition fan remained lit after the vehicle was stopped. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer but the found noting wrong.

Steering wheel froze and vehicle could not accelerate.towed to the dealer who found out that the cause was a defect in the axle. *la when the consumer managed to pull over and placed the vehicle into park, the vehicle continued to move.ona separate occasion, the ignition chip had to be changed because the vehicle would not start.

Bulb position failure error message.i have brought in the vehicle for service of this problem and was told that no bulbs were out and that they checked all of the connections and everything seemed fine. Two weeks later the same error message is displaying again. Seems many other people are having the same problem and volvo seems to be just brushing off the issue instead of trying to correc it. Either there is an elecrical problem or a wiring harness problem.

I had 5 incidents while i was driving that my vehicle got out the controlafter noticed the anti-skid light message came on.i hear the same situation to other people as well.i went to volvo about the anti-skid situation and they found and a factory fault in the brake control module that cause failure to the steering angle sensor. I know this is a factory failure and malfunction issue from volvo. The part is available but they declined to be responsible about this matter.

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60.while driving approximately 35 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel.the indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to the throttle body.the vehicle was repaired.the failures were related to recall#07v152000, fuel system; however, her vin was excluded. I was driving on the freeway and without warning the engine lost power and the check engine light came on. I coasted off to the shoulder and the engine would only idle, and even that was rough. The message indicator on the dash said something like "reduced engine performance". I had the car towed to gengras volvo in meriden. They replaced the etm , software and throttle body at the cost of $1195.43. About two weeks later, i was driving on the freeway and the same thing happened. This time the dealership said the electrical connections to the etm must be bad and replaced same at no cost to me. Now about 10 days after that repair, the same thing happened to me on the freeway again. Since it is the weekend, i have to wait until monday for the dealer to give me the diagnosis this time. Since the second failure of the part i have only driven in the right most lane of the highway so that when the car dies again i can get to the shoulder safely. It is a good thing i do this as the issue comes on suddenly and without any warning.

I own a volvo s60 and am having problems (racing idle, uncontrollable cruise control, and complete dying of engine randomly) which are related to eventual failure of the etm which could be a catastrophic event, resulting in serious injury or death. Volvo has issued a limited recall but in order to be granted this fix one's vehiclemust fail a certain test.if there is no failure, no fix.(the test is not a comprehensive meter of failure) a software upgrade is offered which is essentially an override , in which the system is set to ignore symptoms,so that the check engine light does not employ.this is not a fix..the problem existing is that my car exhibits all the preliminary problems of the eventual failure of the etm which will result in a limphome mode ,whereas the car will only go approx 15mph, and is immediate, meaning that when this happens one hopes they are not on the freeway .... Well, one can use ones imagination. This is very disturbing.still volvo wishes to wait until the complete failure obviously, and i do not wish to gamble with my life in this way. The symptoms at this time are random, indicative of complete failure in the future. Volvo hesitates to take complete responsibility of this problem; but are aware of the defective engineering responsible for it.even their fix for this problem is to replace with thesame etm (electronic throttle module) which again, is only buying time until it fails also.but just try to get your module replaced ; not an easy thing to do, unless u want to pay for it outright, and that is wrong considering this is a volvo problem, again, that they are aware of. I guess maybe death could be the great motivator.

Sep 29,2006 my wife was driving home and the car shut off as she was making a turn. She also noted the signal lights and dash lights were acting erratically. Come monday we are scheduling a visit to the dealership. This appears to be a safety issue the reason being suppose she had been in highway traffic.

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60. While driving approximately 20 mph, the contact applied pressure to the accelerator pedal but the vehicle would not accelerate. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated on the dash board as the vehicle independently accelerated and then decelerated. The contact did not feel safe operating the vehicle and it was parked. The dealer was contacted and stated that there was an extended warranty offered for the etm unit in the same year, make and model as the contacts vehicle but the vin was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 156,000.

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle reduced in speed going to 35 mph. The contact applied pressure to the accelerator pedal and the vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to a volvo dealer who diagnosed the failure as the etm and was replaced it at the owners expense. The etm failure recurred. The vehicle will be diagnosed by the dealer. The failure mileage was 110000 and the current mileage was 154000.

I have had many problems with the transmission, car will stall in traffic, car would not start at all.this car has been in service many many times.the problems persist.i have sent 9 emails to their head quarters since 12/5, no reply.*la

Engine is idling very low.has died on major thoroughfares 3 times in past 2 weeks.did restart.taking it in in 2 days (earliest appointment was a week from when i called the dealership).

Fumes entered the passenger compartment of the vehicle, the consumer was told the odor was thought to be a cosmolene like substance, that would eventually subside, however the problem was still there.

I have a volvo s60 2002 and in october in a chekpoint the border patrol agent noticed an odor of fuel and a leak he was some what alarmed and so i was inspected and so on i started to research for this problem and found that my car had a recall on the fuel pump nhtsa campaign 07v152000 that matched all the sy mptoms and so i call to volvo and they said that i don't have a recall but an extended warranty on the fuel pump, and so i went to the dealer left the car picked it up and now my car not only leaks fuel on the outside but inside i have a strong fuel fumes smell as well and so i contacted volvo again now via email and what they said is that they are no exactly responsible for the way their franchises work like the have a mind of their own, the problem for me is that the next available volvo dealer is 4 hors away, so what i am supposed to do! the cost of replacing the fuel pump is like $700.00...................! i do have like a headache like every day because the fumes.....!

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60.the contact noticed a very strong fuel odor coming from the fuel pump.from the exterior of the vehicle, the odor was very overpowering, but was also noticeable from inside the passenger compartment.there were also fuel stains on the fuel tank that were noticeable.the dealer refused to repair the vehicle and stated that the repair would cost $850.50 plus tax.the vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the entire fuel pump needed to be replaced in order to remedy the failure.nhtsa campaign id number 07e023000 (service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:master cylinder) and volvo recall number r176 mention identical failures; however, the vehicle does not fall under the climate stipulations of the recall.the failure mileage was 157,000 and current mileage was 169,000.

Tl- the contact owns a 2002 volvo s60.the contact received notification of nhtsa recall number: 09v483000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump) and took the vehicle to the dealer for repairs.the dealer replaced the fuel pump and the o ring.the dealer has made two attempts to duplicate the failure; however, the vehicle was continuing to leak fuel.the manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer who performed the repairs.the current mileages were 82,000 and the failure mileages were 60,000.bw

Smell of gas leaking but no leak on ground...has recall for samething.

I was stuck in high way traffic for about 45 minutes, once the traffic cleared i tried to accelerate but could not, i was afraid i was going to get hit because i could not get my vehicle up to a safe speed (the vehicle went into limp mode).i was able to get the car to at least 50 mph to get it home.this now happens within approx 1-2 miles of driving. Due to the hi cost of repairs for this vehicle i had the diagnostics done first (cost $90.00), the result was a bad mass-air sensor and faulty throttle position sensor.i had the mass-air sensor replaced at a cost of $140.00, i then had the throttle positioning sensor cleaned ( this is what the dealership will do first, because of the hi cost involved in replacing the throttle body & programming it) at a cost of $180.00.the cleaning did not work and therefore the throttle body needs to be replaced and programmed at a cost of $800.00.

Fuel smell inside the car. Fuel pump with cracks spills gas all over the tank below.

Took vehicle in question to my mechanic due to starting issue and fuel smell.he diagnosed a significant fuel leak due to a cracked flange on the fuel pump.he found there was a recall for this exact problem for this exact make, model and year of volvo.called volvo and they rejected request for recall repair due to vin number not being included in recall.i believe this vehicle should be subject to the recall regardless of the vin number because it has the exact same diagnosis as is described by the recall.the notion that a maker can exclude a vehicle which exhibits the problems to be fixed by a recall based on extraneous criteria is fundamentally flawed.the vehicle in question is unsafe to drive and there is a recall to fix the safety issue for the make, model and year in question.that the vehicle is excluded based on extraneous criteria is reckless regard for my safety and potential bystanders!

I own a 2002 volvo s60 about 4-5 months ago i noticed my car smelt like gas. I thought this was odd since it was winter. I took it into my mechanic and he said it was leaking gas. He then advised me about the recall for 2002 s60s. I looked online about the recall and sure enough my make and model had a recall, so i called volvo, and they quickly dismissed my claim. They said that my vin did not match the recall. I explained in the online statement that the recall were for cars in hot and dry areas such as az and nv. I live in utah, and i am certain this vehicle has a manufacture defect. I would like to see volvo take responsibility for their mistakes. How can i go about having my vehicle restored?

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, there was a fuel odor emitting from outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000the consumer smelled fuel on the outside of the vehicle, which would cease once the vehicle was stopped and placed in park. It occurred when the accelerator was pressed, which in turn put pressure on the fuel line and fuel pump. The dealer was unable to find a problem. The consumer recently found the fuel smell worsening and a loss of fuel. A mechanic checked out the problem and found the fuel pump flange was cracked. After, the diagnosis, the consumer contacted the dealer, and was informed, her vehicle was not covered by the recall, and it had expired in 2011. Updated 08/12/14

Very strong persistent gasoline vapor exterior and interior of car with very serious fire safety issue.matches symptoms related to known recall#'s 09v48300 and 07v152000 (which have region specific criteria related to dramatic temperature changes that does not include the state of delaware, but does include numerous other states such as virginia that shares a similar climate profile).the car in question is a volvo s60 2002.

I have a 2002 volvo s60 that is recalling cars with leaking fuel pumps. We have had this car for about a year and it's been leaking gas slowly and now gas is coming out of our car a lot. I called volvo and they aren't able to repair the car because the warranty expired for my vin in july 2002. I do think that our car should qualify to be repaired.

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when he smelled a strong odor of fuel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was made aware of the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 09v483000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). The fuel pump was replaced, but the padding for the fuel pump was not. The failure continued. The contact then began to notice a puddle of fuel would form underneath the vehicle when it was parked. The vehicle was then taken back to a dealer to be repaired. A week after the repairs were performed, the check engine light began to illuminate on the instrument panel. The vehicle was again taken to a dealer and the contact was informed that the failure was due to the gas cap. The check engine light began to illuminate again a few days later. The vehicle was not taken back for additional repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assitance. The failure mileage was 187,045.

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60. The contact stated that fuel fumes were emitted into the vehicle. The contact also stated that he looked underneath the rear passenger seat and noticed that the surface was wet with fuel. The car just began to emit a fuel smell while parked.the smell is near the gas tank and tends to linger in the air dissipate and then resurface.some times its strong other times it is faint.it also tends to comes into the interior compartment and can at time become over whelming causing my children and i to get headaches and nauseous.i could not find any presence of a leak underneath the vehicle near the area of concern.the vehicle has never been in an accident and is garaged most of the time.

I have a 2002 s60 volvo. It is hard to start when cold and there is a slight gas odor.nhtsa campaign # is 07v15200 and volvo campaign is r176.i understand it is a faulty fuel pump and volvo refuses to replace it because i do not live in nevada or arizona.i live in florida abd it is hot here also.

For about a week our 2002 volvo s60 has had a strong gasoline odor inside and has been hard to start.the gasoline smell is always there, and starting the car is a problem every time.we live in texas, where it has been extremely hot, and a little research seemed to point to a problem with the fuel pump.we will be taking the car into the volvo dealership soon to be repaired.we believe this repair should be covered under either the recall or warranty, but we are officially filing a complaint to cover our bases.

Gas smell on 02 volvo s60 like listed on nhtsa campaign number 07v152000 and volvo has campaign number r176.this recall should be extended to all states as we all have high temperatures.

I have a gas/fume smell coming from my car ,i can smell the fumes when i stand next to vehicle. Do you know what i should check or any recalls for this vehicle.thank you

My 2002 s60 was repaired under the recall for fuel fumes in the cabin related to the fuel pump fracture. Since the repair, fuel fumes are very evident in the cabin on occasion. The mileage also appears to lessened.

I was having trouble with the car stalling and upon taking my 2002 volvo s 60 to the dealer (bozzanni volvo in covina, ca. They handled that problem by cleaning the throttle body assembly for a cost of about $500.00. About two months later the same problem occurred and this time they replaced the entire throttle body assembly for a cost of about $800.00. When i questioned the dealer about the problem, he told me that it was no longer under warranty and that the repair charge and repair itself was necessary and that there was nothing else they could do. The car had about 55,000 miles on the odometer and i felt that they did not do the job properly in the first place and that the repair work should have been completed under warranty. I have been keeping up with the current investigations on volvo and their throttle body assembly failures. While my car is an early 2002 mild pressure turbo, i feel that current investigation should encompass other years because the problems is quite similar. This occurred early on in 2005 and i have the old parts and the dealer paperwork on the repair.

Experience extreme gas smells which permeated into the house via garage walls.after having it inspected by a mechanic, it was determined that there was a crack in the delivery mechanism of the tank.replaced parts and problem has been corrected.

I am a resident of texas. I just bought a 2002 volvo s60 about three months ago, and i've noticed a strong fuel smell in and around car. There is a leak in the fuel pump and when car is parked, fuel forms a puddle under car. It is extremely dangerous to drive a car in this condition, both for myself but also for the general public. I searched online about this issue and found the following recall information from the national highway traffic safety administration website:make: volvo model: s60 model year: 2002 manufacturer: volvo cars of n.a. Llc. Mfr's report date: dec 17, 2009 nhtsa campaign id number: 09v483000 nhtsa action number: pe09039 component: fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pumprecall states that as remedy for this issue: "dealers will inspect the fuel pump installed in the vehicle, and if necessary replace the fuel pump with a part of a modified design. This service will be performed free of charge. The safety recall began on january 15, 2010. "however, when i contacted roger beasley volvo of austin, tx, i was told i would have to pay for the repair to the tune of $720.

I own a 2002 volvo s60 and have had a strong fuel odor.it does not start right away when turning the key, most times it takes pumping the pedal for the car to start.i live in north carolina where the weather is hot.i have read in a recall (nhtsa has a campaign number 07v152000 and volvo has campaign number r176 ) that this problem is a recall but only for arizona and nevada. This recall should be for all states especially states like nc and florida that get just as hot. This is a safety issue for other states also.

My volvo leaks gasoline fumes. Upon some investigation i found the nhtsa has a campaign number 07v152000 and volvo has campaign number r176 addressing this exact problem. Volvo will only fix these problems at dealer cost in arizona and nevada. How is this? this makes no sense.

Fuel pump leak , dealer told me it was recalled for cracked fuel pump under campaign # 07v152000.r176and car is now too old to have free repairsi was never notified of recall and the car was purchased used but from a volvo new car dealer, can i be made whole?

Fuel pump leakage and smell inside and outside ofvolvo s60.this is a known issue and volvo has issued a recall in the states of nevada and arizona for a defective plastic pump housing.r176 is volvo's recall number and nhtsa's number is 07v152000. Volvo refused to replace my fuel pump as i'm in florida.the local volvo dealer did not have the fuel pump in stock because it was on national backorder so they know there is a problem with the design yet refused to acknowledge anything was wrong.i believe volvo is being dishonest about fixing their safety defects.

Strong fuel smell, especially when standing beside the car.dealership is unsure what the problem is, but mechanic noticed gas leaking above the tank.there are many people with the same or similar problems (see online volvo forums), and a nationwide recall might be appropriate.i urge the agency, and put it on notice, that failure to act might result in an accident that could be fatal.

While pulling out of a parking spot 2 months ago, the engine of my 2002 volvo s60 2.4t w/37,500 miles, began sputtering, and when i got onto a major roadway, the car suddenly went into "limp" mode, whereby it went 5 miles per hour maximum.the sudden change in speed almost resulted in my car getting rear-ended.i took the car to the dealer, cherry hill volvo in new jersey, and they diagnosed the problem as pertaining to the electronic throttle module (etm).the dealer said that the etm needed to be cleaned, and they proceeded to clean it.a week ago, i found out that nhtsa 06v-441 was issued, which addresses this exact problem.however, i was told by volvo that my car, since it's a turbo, was not included in the nhtsa list, but it should be.

I was driving a car and it just lost all power and told me that the engine is underperforming. The throttle just dropped and even though the car was running , it was unable to accelerate. I thank god this happened at night on a highway where there was room to pull over safely. I do not even want to think what could have happened to myself or others if this happened during the day in busy highway traffic. I would strongly urge volvo to help me resolve this issue. This puts the lives of my family at very high risk. And i thought volvo claims to be a safe vehicle ? please help.

Leaking gas from the top of the gas tank.currently have a nhtsa campaign number 07v152000 that only covers cars in arizona and nevada.

I noticed a fuel smell coming from the passenger compartment, which steadily got worse. I brought it to my mechanic and found the fuel pump was leaking. I paid to have it replaced.

I've had my car all of 4 months and i started to notice when it got really hot outside (summer) and when i went to start my car it would stall as if it was having a hard time starting up. Long story short i take it in to the dealer, they run a diagnostics test an tell me there is a crack in my fuel pump. I currently live in pennsylvania which is not one of the states listed for the fuel pump recall. I highly believe my car had a defective fuel pump because in the spring time, when it wasn't so hot my car was running fine. The volvo dealer ship charged me $98.11/hr to run a diagnostics test which came to $102.83. Then on top of that they charged me $795 + tax for the parts and labor to replace my fuel pump after finding there was a crack in it. Everyone keeps telling me that my fuel pump is not on the recall but it has the same exact symptoms as all other volvo cars that are listed on the recall. I'm trying to research how i could find out how these people know if my fuel pump was recalled or not. I have twin 2 year old girls that i had in my car all a while it was having this unknown issue. This is not safe at all and could of caused us harm. Luckily my father is car smart and informed me what the possible issue could be.

From around oct. Of 2011 i have been experiencing trouble with my throttle body or as volvo calls it 'electronic throttle module'. These problems include but are not limited to, stalling at freeway speeds, rough starting/ not starting at all, reduced engine performance not allowing for safe speed to be maintained, costly repair work with no improvement, and bouts of self accelerating at stops with parking brake and foot brake engaged. I have research a volvo recall/ warranty extension for a defective throttle body, contacted volvo customer service only to get the run-around. Various web forums encourage owner experiencing these problems to file complaint with nhtsa to help come to a resolution.

The vin was unavailable.

My volvo s60 is becoming difficult to start and is beginning to smell like gasoline. I've been researching online and the problem appears to be the fuel filter. There has been a recall in other states like arizona and florida but apparently volvo has not issued a recall for cars in california. It is an extremely dangerous situation to drive a car that is leaking fuel due to a manufactures defect regardless of what state you live in. I would like to request that the nhtsa instruct volvo to include all states in the recall of the defective fuel filter. Please send me any information regarding this request. Thank you for your time. Began to notice strong fuel smell inside and outside the vehicle.also noticed that starting the vehicle when engine is cold became more difficult.researched various forums and nhtsa and discovered that volvo has had 2 recalls for fuel pumps.my vehicle exhibited same symptoms as detailed in both nhtsa recalls.called volvo at 800-458-1552 as instructed in the nhtsa recall notice.informed the representative that vehicle exhibited the symptoms detailed in the recall notice.i was informed that my vehicle vin number was not part of recall.also contacted local volvo dealer regarding recall notice.dealer would diagnose problem - if part of the recall, they would replace.dealer called back, informed me that my vehicle was not part of recall.i cancelled appointment for diagnosis.another local repair shop specializing in european vehicles verified that fuel pump has cracks and is leaking fuel.a full recall to include all vin's should be issued.the fact that there have been two previous recalls for the same issue shows that there is a systemic flaw with this part.

We brought the car in several times to complain that not only did the inside of the car always smell like fuel, but the driver and all her clothes smelled like fuel. We were told they could not find any problems with the car. I find it ironic that years after the fact, volvo contacts us to tell us there is a fuel problem. We no longer own the car, nor would we ever buy another volvo again, due to the lack of concern and help we received when owning this vehicle. We tried speaking to various employees and service personal, but we got no where. Sincerely,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I was involved in a car accident in bronx, ny on 8/16/2017 that caused severe damage to my 2002 volvo s60.thankfully, i was the only one in my car.i had just left my last destination, moving slowly and driving straight for a short block or so, when my 2002 volvo s60, with an odometer reading of 45,000 miles, began to accelerate out of nowhere and race - all on its own.i tried braking (foot and hand) but it was too sudden and neither could slow it down. The car accelerated out of my control, jumped the sidewalk and plowed through a fence before coming to a stop.i'm still shaken, thinking of what could have happened, but thankfully there was no one else involved and no one was in front of me or walking by.while this is shocking and surprising to me, i believe this is a known safety malfunction on certain models of volvo cars. I have read that other driver's have complained to the company about a racing/slipping transmission before, which suggests that volvo has been aware of this.for some time. There are so many situations in which this type of malfunction can easily be fatal so i am treating it as an impending disaster for others that needs to be acted on urgently.i am seeking your assistance to investigating this as quickly as possible so that you may have a chance to preserve the car for added testing if necessary. I have provided all the pertinent information that i possibly can.

The car continues to have shift flares and slippage when shifting up from 1 to 2, 2 to 3 or shifting between the same gears.

We are a 2 volvo family (having purchased them "pre-certified from volvo 2 and 3 years ago respectively).both cars (2002 s60 & 2001 cross country) have had to have their transmissions replaced since purchase - mine once (so far) and my husband's three times - all before 55,000 miles.i went online and found literally hundreds of complaints on defective volvo transmissions:all volvo models - from 2001 through 2006 and mileage ranging from 20,000 to 60,000.why has volvo usa not been taken to task on these defective factory installed transmissions and made to stand behind the manufacture of their cars?

The angel gear failed (also known as the bevel gear) causing a loss of the awd system.symptoms include excessive torque steer and excessive front wheel spin. >$2300 repair.dealer indicated that there was no specific reason for the failure and that there was no preventive maintenance on this part.

While driving my volvo 2002 s60 awd i experience what is referred to as an engine flare. While car shifts automatically from gear to gear the engine will race and the tachometer needle will jump. The car will lurch forward once the gear finally catches. This can happen when the car is cold or hot. It can occur at anytime and any gear. It has also happened while stepping on the brake. I have been experiencing this problem since feb. 2002 and volvo still has yet to fix it. I have made numerous calls to volvo n.a. And the dealer vovloville of massapequa, ny. The dealer tells me that they are still waiting to hear from volvo n.a. And volvo n.a. Continues to tell me that they are looking into it but they never call me back with any information. *la

2002 volvo s60 - transmission clunks when engaging gear in drive. Problem is most noticeable when shifting from reverse. Hesitation to engagement can be up to 2 seconds, then engages very harshly producing the "clunking". Was told a software flash may correct issue but i am reluctant to spend $80 to discover it did not work.vehicle started demonstrating problem at 80k miles when manually downshifting to first gear to come to a stop.now has 114k miles and driven very carefully with foot hard on brake when shifting from reverse to drive.i no longer perform any sort of manual shifting when in forward motion.

I have had many problems with the transmission, car will stall in traffic, car would not start at all.this car has been in service many many times.the problems persist.i have sent 9 emails to their head quarters since 12/5, no reply.*la

I amappealing for your assistance regarding the car's inclusion in nhtsa campaign 06v-441000.in particular, i have a 2002 volvos60 2.4t w/37,500 miles.while pulling out of a parking spot 2 months ago, my car's engine began sputtered, and when i got onto a major roadway, the car suddenly went into limp mode, whereby it went 5 mph maximum.the sudden change in speed almost resulted in my car getting rear-ended.i took the car to the dealer, cherry hill volvo in new jersey, and they diagnosed the problem as pertaining to the electronic throttle module (etm). The dealer said that the etm needed to be cleaned, and they proceeded to clean it. A week ago, i found out that nhtsa 06v-441 was issued, which addresses this exact problem. However, i was told by volvo that my car, since it's a turbo, was not included in the nhtsa list, because the etm is a different design. What i'm suggesting is that the etm on my car has thesame problem as the old design etm, and that my family could be in danger. From what i've read on message boards, eventually, i will need to replace the etm at a cost of $1100.volvo has warrantied the etm on models other than mine, for 200,000 miles or 10 years.i would like to get my car on that list.have there been others with a turbo like me who have had this problem?is there a way to get my model car on the affected cars list? thank you, marc friedman 732-323-1603 (day)

The 2002 volvo s60 had sat outside during the duration of a very hot day.while waiting stopped at the parking lot stop sign about to enter road traffic a sound resembling an uncoiling spring was detected and the seat belt tension let go and the belt went slack onto my lap.there car was not in motion while this event occurred.

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60. The contact stated that the front and rear passenger side seat belts failed to operate by not retracting. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was stated to the contact that the seat belt assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000. The vin was not available.

The front passenger seatbelt retracted and would not move to engage the passenger.it was stuck in place.the dealer examined it and said it was not possible to fix because it is a 'closed system' and would need to be replaced.they would charge over $650 to replace it for parts and labor.

The driver's side seat belt lost tension while driving and completely unrolled and was no longer functional. I contacted my nearest dealer which is 30 milesaway and they advised that they did not feel the vehicle was safe to drive and to contact volvo on call. I did this and was told that because the vehicle was still driveable it would not be towed. Volvo customer service advised the same. I followed up with an email to volvo customer service and to date i have not received any response despite receipt of confirmation of my e-mails. On 7-10-03, i finally drove the vehicle to the dealer with no seat belt. The vehicle had been parked since 7-7-03. The part was ordered and will be available 7-14-03. It seems volvo had no concern for my safety or the fact that i was driving the vehicle in violation of fl statutes - a company supposedly "committed to safety."

Everytime i've taken it in the shop they say there are no recalls - yet plenty of complaints over fires with seats. Can't used heated seats at all. Engine seems to remain inconsistent in speed, dashboard lights go completely out and the electrical issues affect back brake lights.the electrical issues bounce in cycles to where no one can detect the problems. Check engine line continues to have to be reset and service lights continually send scrolled warning to pull over. Noticed a burning smell while driving, and smoke emanating from left side of driver's seat. Felt around and my hand was burned. While driving in my volvo s60 this past week i had the seat heater on.i noticed it got extremely hot, the seat seemed much hotter than it usually got when i do put it on, at first i didn't think anything of it since it has been so cold i just figured "wow this is working great!"but the next morning when going out to work i noticed a burnt mark circle in shape on the side of the seat when getting into my volvo.i was upset since i don't smoke and i am the only one who drives my car.when i went to put on the heater for the seat the seat never got hot.i was wondering if their is anyone else who has had this problem and if this car has a recall due to a safety issue.to me it is obvious that something was burning in the heating element and burnt out the seat heater.if there was a recall on this i never received any information about it.what made me wonder if there was recall on this i remember reading in the paper about a women who had a fire in heated seat this past year.please get backto meregarding this information.thank you, [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2002 volvo s60 2.4t model. Picked up my car from an authorized volvo repair center for routine maintenance and was advised that i needed a new gear box. This gear box runs at a cost of $2,000 with about 4 or 5 hours of labor at $400.the car has only 77,000 miles on it and i strongly believe that it is premature for this part to fail.i have searched the internet references on the topic and find it to be somewhat widespread. I would appreciate some feedback on the issue as i plan to address volvo corporate for a resolution.

*scc

Through normal use, in the course of the last two years both of the front interior door handle assemblies have broken. Manufacturer's suggested fix is to replace entire interior door panel assembly, as linkage for door is built into door panel, an exorbitant cost and extravagant fix for something so small. Broken interior door linkage means occupants must roll windows down, and access exterior door handle through window in order to open car door. This is a potential safety concern in event of a crash and emergency egress needs to be made from the vehicle.

The front driver side interior door handle assembly broke. Dealer said the only fix was to replace the entire interior door panel assembly, as linkage for door is built into door panel.dealer estimate to replace panel $575.it appears like vehicles have had the same issue.the manufacturer should step up to resolve this issue with little financial impact to the owner(s).

While driving on the pa turnpike, my glass sunroof inexplicably jettisoned out of the car. The glass was intact and shattered on the shoulder of the road.fortunately, i was driving in the slow lane and there was no one behind me. The potential for serious injury and property damage was avoided, although it is clear that a defect caused this occurrence.the manufacturer (volvo) is unwilling to address the problem although i have contacted their north american office several times. I took my car into the dealership and they told me it was my problem.

I purchased my new 2002 s60 awd vehicle on november 17, 2002 with 76 miles on it at boston volvo village in boston ma.soon after, i started to notice vibrations and hear noises, which appeared to be coming from underneath the gas petal. I scheduled my first oil change for wednesday january 29th with 3178 miles on it. While my oil change was being done, i also wanted these problems investigated and fixed. On wednesday afternoon, i received a message that my car was ready to be picked up. When my husband and i drove down to boston to pick up the car, my husband was informed that no problems were discovered concerning the noise i was hearing. However, there is structural damage to the sub-frame of the vehicle and that it the damage occurred while the vehicle was in my possession. We know this not to be true since i am sole driver of the car. The service department proceeded to charge a $90 parts and labor fee before we could take the car of the lot. What is the warranty for? the following morning, when i began to put my 7 month old baby''s stroller in my trunk, i was even more frustrated to see that a piece of my car was in my trunk. I left 2 messages to gary in the service department explaining that i was upset that this piece was in my trunk, and concerned of the safety of driving the car, especially with my baby.unfortunately, my call was not returned. I then called hank, customer satisfaction manager on saturday morning.again, he was unable to assist me and of course, i did not receive a phone call back. I purchased my vehicle based on the safety of the vehicle however; i do not feel safe. I believe that this damage was caused previous to my purchase due to the car being used as a test drive vehicle, or possibly done by a mechanic at the dealership. We are looking for the dealership to replace the car but they will not talk to us or return calls.

Dt*:the contact stated aftermarket rims and tires were installed on the vehicle.while making left turns the tires rubbed against the fender wall.the vehicle was taken back to the dealership where an aftermarket spacer bar was installed which temporarily remedied the problem.afterwards, the dealership put the original tires and rims back on the vehicle.the contact believes the aftermarket spacer bar has interfered with the integrity of the vehicle.

I am smelling gas all the time my radio change channel on it,s own, air bag light is on the front right & left control arm tie rod end shaft cv shaft all is bad all @ the same time how could it be ????

When making a sharp turn the vehicle felt like it was tailing and did not track properly. It also feltlike it was going to spin out of control. The dealership has been contacted several times, but the cause or a remedy to the problem had not been found.

I presently own a 2002 volvo s60 sedan. On october 14th, 2009, at approx. 5:30 am, the front drivers side ball joint separated from my vehicle, causing failure of my upper ball joint, then separating my cv joint and shaft from my transmission. This in turn, caused extensive body damage to my vehicle. I thank god, that i was only traveling 20 miles per hour. If i was on the highway, i would not be writing this today. I notified dalzell volvo in dedham, mass. And also filed a claim with volvo of north america, claim number 376672. My claim for reimbursement of repairs was denied by mr. John willets of volvo. I am very concerned for all the other owners of this type of vehicle. Wheels should not break off while driving.

Dt: vehicle stalled/died/ost power while driving 30-35 mph due to throttle body failure.

Consumer noticed bubbles in the tires sidewall. Took vehicle to dealer, and the dealer stated that sidewalls are failing.

Tire bubble developed on sidewall of tire without any impact. Car taken to dealer for review and service manager said this was a safety issue and tire needed to be replaced. Tire dealer would not replace tire under warranty. Said i would have to pay for it and then fight it out with pirelli. Many people have had the same problem. Tire only has 1350 mile on it.

Handbook says transmission never has to be serviced but it is not. Transmission slips going in and out of third gear causing high revs and tire spin. I am a mechanic and the issues are that this transmission has no accessible filter without removing the entire transmission and number 4 servo cap is faulty due to the cap being made of aluminum and washer made of steel.

Two malfunctions exist with the 2002 volvo s60.the first one is a faulty driver's information module defect that causes a total malfunction of the entire dashboard.specifically, the dashboard goes completely blank while driving and all of the gauges become inoperable, including the speedometer.therefore, preventing the driver from being able to controlor monitor the vehicle's speed.the second malfunction is the front and rear heated 02 oxygen sensors.these manufacture defects have a potentialto cause a very serious accident.the driver's information module and the 02 sensors were mandatory components that were required to be replaced as opposed to repaired.

I was stopped at stop light waiting to turn left.upon light turning green, i accelerated to turn left.car, without warning, lost acceleration, steering, and braking as if in limp home mode.i was able to pull the car over to the side of the road.i then put car in park and turned off engine.car started back up and drove without incident.there were no indicator lights.took car to local garage and no codes came up.then again on march 23, 2011 car again lost all acceleration and steering. This time the car was being driven approximately 40 mph.no warning indicators were lit.put car into park and it started without incident.took car to dealer on march 25, 2011.the dealer said no codes came up and they were having trouble diagnosing the failure.after 4 days they called to tell me it could be the mass air flow sensor and throttle body needed to be cleaned (cost $660).however, they could not say for sure if this was the cause of the failure.i am getting the suggested repairs done.however after reading the numerous complaints describing this same failure, i feel very uneasy about driving my car.volvo needs to address these numerous complaints as this is a major safety concern.i drive my car with two small kids in the back seat everyday.i am terrified this failure will happen again.there was a recall on my model and year car for this type of failure, however my vin is not included.

The car suddenly lost power and began to slow down. The check engine light came on. I was unable to drive it and had to have it towed to a repair shop. However, no codes are coming up. They see no issue with the car.

My climate control module computer turns off my a/c for no reason when i turn on the a/c it happens when it is very hot outside. I have had to make numerous trips to the volvo dealership to have software updated which did not cost anything. When the ccm first started doing this volvo thought it was my a/c compressor and i spent $1,200 on a new a/c compressor hoping that would fix my problem. It did not fix the problem and the result is i get very hot in my car when it turns off while im driving and i have to keep fiddling with it while driving to make it stay on.

Michelin pilot sport as plus tires are chunking on sidewalls and tread coming off in large pieces. Started as cracks then began flying off the tires on the road while driving. Tires have been rotated and inflation checked regularly. The car has an alarm for tire inflation.

The contact owns a 2002 volvo s60. While driving 35 mph and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle suddenly slowed down and stalled. The contact noticed that the more he depressed the accelerator pedal, the more the rpm gauge would fluctuate but the vehicle only slowed down. The check engine light also illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop where the contact was informed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that the vehicle was not included in recall 06v441000 (vehicle speed control) and offered no assistance. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

Recall done. But volvo says throttle body is bad, should throttle body be cover? if program is extending sweeps internally of potentiometers. Would that wear pattern from previous program wear out potentiometers, creating more problem with throttle body.volvo should replace throttle body.as a safety assurance.

2002 volvo s60 experienced a very sudden reduction is speed andhad to be driven home in limp mode. I brought the car to marten's volvo whereit had the software updated and the throttle cleaned. This sounds very muchlike it should be covered by nhtsa campaign id number 06v441000 (vehicle speed control). However, the dealer said that my vehicle (turbo engine) is excluded from the recall.

I drive a 2002 volvo s-60.since august, i have been experiencing engine failure at random times, most noticably while breaking.after researching on line, it seems that other volvos are experiencing similar problems.i took the car to a dealer 3 months ago and was told that they have no idea what the problem is or how to fix it.the problem has escalated since that time.i returned to the dealer this morning and am hoping for a better response, but am concerned that volvo may have a bigger problem on their hands that they are not dealing with.

Car began to accelerate and decelerate erratically with no change in accelerator position while on a 250 mile trip. At one point when attempting to pass a truck the car suddenly decelerated and acted like it would stall then just as suddenly accelerated. This almost caused an accident as there were cars behind us passing as well and oncoming traffic. A very scary situation.

An 8-inch crack appeared in my volvo's driver-side window while we were dining inside. The next morning the hairline crack had crossed the window, left to right. Our auto insurers got safelite to replace the window. The safelite expert looked at the original factory window and declared it defective as a piece of it was missing from one corner when the volvo factory installed it in my 2002 s60 t5 vehicle.
