I have a 2004 vw touareg v8, i have a airbag light that come on (airbag fault), nowthe tran light is coming on when i start the suv.
Airbag module defective with only 54,496 miles and a $1200 cost to fix.this is a safety issue!dash lighting has went on and off forairbag.a washer pump defective, power train transmission jumps and has been an ongoing problem and known problem by volkswagen but nobody wants to admit the defect problem.
Air bag fault warning light is on. I have not had an accident or been involved in any kind of event that would cause this.srs ill.pco
While driving srs air bag light appeared on the dashboard and remained on.consumer pressed down on the horn an it failed.consumer drove the vehicle to dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the clock spring needed to be replaced.
Hit a very massive pothole and it caused the airbag faulty statement to appear on the dashboard. It appears the airbag attempted to discharge upon hitting a pothole and did not discharge and thus the airbag mechanism was considered faulty.a pothole/rumble strip should not cause a airbag fault to appear as this could be dangerous.
Both right and left side front airbag wiring harnesses required repair within 600 miles of first incident to correct prior repairs to replace harness connectors with spliced wire under voluntary service pack "recall". Both repairs were triggered by airbag fault light on dash. You had done an investigation in 2006 on this. Vw would not cover the repairs because i was "out of warranty". It cost me $600 to fix the problem and i have no assurance from the dealer it won't occur again or that i will need new harnesses or airbag modules.
Air bag warning light came on and stayed on. Volkswagen says they need to develop a new harness. They've had the car for 2 weeks now with no end in sight - no timetable. They did provide a rental car worth half what the touareg costs.
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. The contact stated while driving approximately 75 mph, the driverā€™s side curtain air bag deployed inadvertently. Due to the inadvertent air bag deployment, the vehicle failed to restart. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
I was traveling approximately 40 miles per hour when i rear ended a vehicle.my airbag deployed, but not as much as i thought it would.the airbag barely hit my upper body and then it seemed 3/4 deflated almost immediately.i don't think the airbag was working properly because i would think from what i've seen that the airbag would have been alot fuller and would have me pinned up against my driver seat, but it did not.i was able to exit my car without a struggle and don't remember even touching the airbag when i exited the vehicle.none of the other airbags deployed, are they supposed to when you get into an accident.i guess i'm lucky that when i hit the vehicle in front of me that the impact was not harder, because i don't believe the airbag would have kept me from hitting the steering wheel with great force or even saving my life.i plan to contact volkswagen directly about my complaint as well.
2004 volkswagen touareg has a burning odor coming from the vents. *mr the consumer attempted to turn on the a/c when the burning odor occurred.the odor was so strong that the consumers daughter had become sick and vomited in the vehicle.also, the air bags did not work. *sc
Drive it short distance and it won't start again for hours!have taken it to vw to put on brakes and asked them to check it out, found nothing! they have known about this recall since april 2017shows air bag light on all the time !
2004 vw toureg fault with airbags.electrical system has failed which has resulted in all of the airbags to be deactivated.the wiring is routed around the horn which has resulted in one side of the horn to not work.unsafe and needs to be recalled.
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. While occupying the vehicle, the seat belt warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealership and the technician stated that the passenger airbag needed to be replaced.the current and failure mileages were 88000. Updated 11/23/09. *ljupdated 11/24/09.
Airbag warning light comes on after changing battery.local mechanics can't turn it off.dealer wants large amount to "diagnose" the problem.several other owners have the same issue with the seatbag warning system coming on randomly...very dangerous...and vw knows about the problem.has been happening for years.the other issue is with the engine...the 2004 touareg engine blew at less than 50k...dealer said we must have driven the car when it was hot.just nonsense.several others have had major problems with the touaregs..engine problems and the transmissions/engines surge on slowing down or even speeding up.tons of problems with the vehicle line and vw america and germany will not do anything about.the engine blew when it was about 100 degrees outside..we always service our vehicles regularly.
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg.the contact stated that the air bag warning light was constantly illuminated on the instrument control panel.the dealer stated that he would have to replace the air bag module at the cost of $3,000.the vehicle has not been repaired.the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer in reference to the customer satisfaction campaign in 2006 for the air bag wiring connector.the failure and current mileages were 37,000.
-while traveling 40 mph on a state road another vehicle slid into contact's vehicle, impacting the volkswagen on the driver's side front fender to the back of the vehicle. Vehicle spun around and the passenger'sside struck a guard rail.none of the airbags deployed during the crash. A police report and pictures were taken.updated 02/06/07.
While driving vehicle hesitated.consumer pressed down on the accelerator pedal and vehicle movedintermittently on its own. Srs light appeared on the dashboard and remained on.consumer drove vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanicplaced the vehicle on a diagnostic machine.the mechanic determined that the sensor shaft fortransmission and engine needed to be replaced. This problem was a design flaw defect.consumer informed the mechanic this problemwas not acceptable and had not been resolved.
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. While driving at 50 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the front driver side seat air bags needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 57,000.
The airbag on this vehicle has needed to be replaced four times in five years. We await the fourth replacement. The manufacturer and dealer while recommending the car not be driven until a replacement is available are unwilling to provide a replacement vehicle stating the risk of operating the vehicle now rests with the owner.
Air bag related problem light comes on because a wire harness is chaffing against the body. Then had a accident the air bags did not deploy?thanks
On my 2004 touraeg, after tilting the front seats back all the way to the horizontal position, the airbag warning light came on. It turned out that the connectors for the side air bags got disconnected since the cables are too short or are not mounted right. I got the connectors reconnected and now no longer move the seats back in order to avoid this from happening again.
Steering wheel airbag module (horn area) "popped" out of place while the car was parked.airbag module was then no longer seated properly.
Air bag warning light has come on 4 times indicating a failure in the system.vw has been unable to correct this safety defect despite having the car over 6 weeks total.it is unsafe to drive and they will not replace it or refund purchase price of a 5 month old vehicle.
I have a 2004 vw touareg....it is a well know problem thought all vw service shops as it was sent out in a tsr? i have owned my vw for 2 yrs 8 months, and have already acquired 78000 miles, i drive everywhere...leaving me out of warranty due to mileage.....i have experienced the airbag issue that you have already reported to vw...the driver seat back and forth motion runs over the airbag wire harness causing it to split the wires causing a complete airbag fault...it cost me 425.00 to have this fixed....12.00 parts the rest labor....even the vw repair person i dealt with admitted this is a know issue but no recall has been issued.....why? is it not safe to assume that your vehicle was equipped with airbags to save your life? is it not absurd to have your entire system not function due to a 12.00 part that was improperly positioned in the first place? please for all touareg owners issue a recall....everyone knows its out there affecting all 2004 touaregs....please don't allow anyone to be injured and killed ...or wait until it costs them a week or two of pay to have it fixed....this event has really upset me and if it can save just 1 life....isn't it worth it?.
Dt:vw touareg 2004.the contact states that the air bag sensor is on; this means the air bags are disabled.the air bags have been repaired once, but it happened again.the vehicle will be taken in to a service dealer today. Also, at 9,000 miles all four tireshad to be replaced.the service dealer stated that it was unusual wear from the vehicle, and to contact the tire manufacturer.*sc
My 2004 touareg with less than 5000 miles has been in for servicing 7 times.the brakes have been worked on and looked at three times.they still squeal but the problem has lessened.of more concern are the safety issues that have affected me.i have been locked out of my vehicle twice, each time with a different resolution. Updated software was the latest fix.my airbag fault light is now on.another software resolution is on the way.i have no confidence in the quality or safety of this vehicle or when the next issue will arise. Volkswagen told me my car was not problematic and i had "buyers remorse".i am in awe of their lack of concern especially when i know i am not the only touareg owner out there with problems.
I've been having various problems with the electrical system on my 2004 vw touareg from the purchase date of 08/19/03.the alarm would sound, without cause, the doors would not unlock and various switches would not work at times.all of the problems were random.i brought the car in for repair several times.but, the problems were not fixed.in april 2006, my car battery was replaced because it was no longer handling a charge.the battery change was a warranty item.after the battery change, the electrical problems became more frequent.my turn signals began to act up.when i signal for a right turn, the blinker will click to the left one to three times, then to the right.i told murrieta vw about the problem and brought the car in for warranty service on 06/30/06.they couldn't find a "fault code" and couldn't make the car duplicate the problem.so, they didn't fix the car.i video taped the problem five times, on two different occasions after the 06/30/06.i also have two different witnesses who witnessed the problem.i e mailed the videos to murrieta vw and scheduled an appointment.i brought the car back on 07/08.murrieta vw wasn't able to diagnose the problem.i feel that the car is now dangerous.if i were to signal a right turn at an intersection, with an oncoming car assuming that i am turning left because of a defective turn signal, i could end up in an accident.i'm not looking for special treatment from vw.i just want my car fixed.2004 vw touareg serial# w v g c m 67 l 04 d 002863.
On two occasions my 2004 volkswagen touareg v-8 experienced complete electrical system failures. The vehicle would not start on these two occasions. There was no electrical power as if the battery were completely depleted. I did not cause any electrical/battery drain, i.e. Leaving on lights or leaving any electrical equipment on. Local vw dealership service conducted an analysis and found several faults stored. But the service adviser said none of the stored faults indicated what caused the complete electrical failure. First incident was april, 2004 and most recent dec. 28, 2004.i also experienced numerous other electrical and/or computer malfunctions. These malfunctions were related to: all-wheel drive system, drive line system, stability control system, anti-lock brakes, steering input, door locks, interior lighting features, tire pressure monitoring, and keyless remote.all-wheel drive system, drive line system, anti-lock brakes, and steering input malfunctions occurred four total times.dealer/service could not "duplicate" the problem and no repairs were made. The door locks and interior lighting problems were constant but dealer/service could not "" the problem. The tire pressure monitoring was repaired and has been problem free since march 2004. The keyless remote door lock/unlock was repaired and works better but has not been problem free.
About 2 weeks ago, i started blowing fuses for the drivers side turn signal. I would have no front or rear turn signal, as well as no hazards on the drivers side. I looked inside the headlight assembly and found that all the wiring was exposed due to the wiring insulation rotting off, leaving exposed wiring. I am a firefighter, and this is a vehicle fire, waiting to happen. You cant even wrap electrical tape around it, due to the headlamp unit not being able to be taken apart. I have no left turn signals, and risk being hit, sideswiped, or getting a ticket from the police for something i cannot fix. I have replaced 4 different fuses now trying to fix this.
Continuous failures of the electronic system leading to:1) sporadic failure of turn signals (blinking at the same time on both sides) sending wrong messages to other traffic participants about drivers intentions.2) requiring numerous efforts to open car doors(driver's door, key being removed form ignition lock). In a case of emergency this can lead to severe consequences; in daily use it can cause panic.3) computer setting to "all doors open, tailgate open" changes by itself to single door open. (no hazard by itself but proof that the electronic system fails).
Lights on the dash come on hill assist shuts on and off by itself brake light comes on and off sunroof has open by itself ac has stopped working and the next day works again heated steering wheel works when it wants this happened while you're driving or sitting still everything i have read on the internet has pointed to an electrical issue this is an everyday thing
Stranded with a dead battery on multiple occasions as a result of a electrical system failure which vw issued a technical service bulletin on and failed to notify the consumer that there was an issue while under warranty. Updated 01/25/10 updated 01/26/10.
Came out to 2004 v8 touareg, and it would not start. Mri reads steering defective workshop.after some research i discovered that this is a common defect in touaregs and one which vw refuses to take responsibility of.it renders the vehicle paralyzed and due to it being all wheel drive, requires special equipment to even tow it.i am furious.this is a known, dangerous issue and no recall for it - shame on you vw.what if i was with my young children?there is no warning for this failure.all is fine and then wham, it will not start, turn over, shift into neutral, etc.you are 100% paralyzed where you are - be it at a gas pump or a remote dirt road.
2004 touareg that has experienced multiple battery failures due to excessive draw.the vehicle cannot be left unattended for more than 3-4 days w/out experiencing battery failure.has been to vw service on 3 occassions for a total of 40 business days.the car has also experienced multiple tire pressure monitoring system failures which could provide erroneous information directly related to the tire condition.accordingly, the vehicle iss unreliable, prone to electrical system malfunctions which could impact operator, passenger and other motorist safety.
Multiple engine light failures for over 4 years.engine light came on and engine shut down immediately while wife was on the freeway.very dangerous...essentially no warning.have replaced wiring harness in the vehicle and have had it in the shop for electrical issues many times.unsafe handling and acceleration...car jumps forward at stops while it is downshifting.think the transmission, tires and brakes should be tested.think you will find they are defective.engine blew up at 44,000 miles.very dangerous car..and you will find other touaregs with similar issues.should be recalled.
Constant repair of 2004 vw touareg:this vehicle has been certified in all states of the union as being a certified lemon.when i purchased the vehicle i had no idea of this.i have had to replace a fan sensor which is a certified vw defect, but i had to pay for the cost, repair and labor in the amount of $550 and further, the vehicle left me stranded because the faulty sensor allowed a fan to keep blowing thereby draining my battery completely.rear windshield wiper disintegrated during heavy rain and cost 65 to repair although the piece looks like something a child put together.front windshield wiper flew off of car while raining, causing me to pull over and be stranded once again.i got stranded again because the vw engine coils burnt out without notice leaving me stranded in blizzard conditions in chicago.i had to get a new battery but was charged $250 for the battery and installation because vw chose to put the battery under the front driver's seat.not three weeks have passed and i haven't even driven the vehicle but both fuel pumps and the flange module have gone out.i had to pay $1500 for labor, parts, shop and repairs.vehicle has 91,000 and brakes and rotors have gone out again for the 3rd time.right door opens when driving although the vehicle is locked, which is another certified defect.vehicle lunges forward from a stopped position and then hesitates when trying to speed up on the highway.
The emergency brake alarm was going off more frequently and to silence it i would pull the sping on the brake up. The brake alarm randomly was anoying but not a major concern.i hadn't had any mechanical issues with my car until 01/23/16 i attempted to start my car and recieved an error message the read steering defect and it wouldn't allow you to start the car beyond the error message.i had my car towed to volkswagon mentor ohio after holding my car for more than a week i was finally offered a diagnosis that the access modular was not functioning meaning the brain of the vehicle wasn't functioning and the vw dealership service department didn't have answer to how this happened they had a $2500 solution to the problem and they were more than happy to assist in replacement of the access modular with there hearty cost. The brain the volkswagon access modular stops functioning and volkswagen at no fault of mine and i'm charged $2500 plus. Mechanical maintenance i understand but replacement of the vehicles access modular is a repair that i feel volkswgon should cover.
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start when attempting to drive. When the vehicle was started, an electrical noise was heard from the dashboard. In addition, the electrical system failed after three days. The vehicle was taken to david maus volkswagen north (1050 lee rd, orlando, fl 32810, phone: (407) 233-0529), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.

While accelerating onto the highway, a loud, repetitious bang/clunk from the middle underside of the vehicle started, sounding similar to a blown tire.no abnormal operations noted prior to this.limped the car back to the shop at 15 mph and found the center driveshaft carrier bearing failed.the service tech acted as if this was common and was not surprised.i have a 1981 mercury with over 305000 miles and never lost a bearing in my driveshaft.mechanical parts fail.the worst part of this event is voa's reaction that somehow they are not responsible for a poor/weak design. List of other major component failures with no recall that are common to all touaregs of this generation according to the company's own service tech's:center differential lock motor failrear diff. Lock motor failcooling fans do not shut off, drain battery thermostat housing leak radio failure.
My vehicle, a 2004 vw touareg looses power, the volt meter drops to zero and then the turn signals stop working. All the lights in the vehicle dim and if you switch the vehicle off, it will not start again. The vehicle was drive a few hours earlier, with no problems. This has been a re-occurring problem with the vehicle at the dealership at least 5 or more times in a 2 month period.
I have had my 2004 vw touareg since june 2006 and have had problem after problem with the vehicle.the catalytic converter went out within 6 weeks of buying the car, the drive shaft had to be replaced, the air conditioning compressor had to be replaced, the brakes have had to be replaced and i am getting another "check brake pads" error again, the tire monitoring system continually tells me i have a flat, the radio amplifier was making a loud cracking so the dealership replaced a fuse and blew the 2 back speakers (which they would not fix, hewlett vw in georgetown, texas), the auto differential is going out.there seems to be no end in sight for repairs.
While driving vehicle stalled.consumer restarted the vehicle.also, noticed that the air bag light andcheck engine light appeared on the dashboard. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. And mechanic determined that the battery needed to be tightened, and that the electricalmodule needed to be replaced, and he replaced it.however, the problem recurred.
Volkswagen 2004 touareg sport utility 4d has serious alignment problems resulting in premature tire wear on all 4 tires!front 2 tires are down to metal showing with only 19,880 miles. Car has been in for all scheduled services and rotations. Almost lost control of car while driving!also, pre-mature wear of front & back brakes & pads due to the alignment/tire problems! condensation on front windshield that defogger does not remove. Fuel injection recall that on service bulletin stated it could result in a fire if not fixed! tire pressure monitoring system failure, esp failure, computer software failure!
Unexpected and sudden electrical malfunction of the steering column lock causing the vehicle to shut down, unable to start or move shifter lever out of gear.
Passenger door opened going down the road, handle does not retract sometimes.a litany of electric quirks and excessive tire wear, also jerky acceleration.
I took delivery of my 2004 vw touareg on 7-11-04. By 9-9-04 it was having problems. It has been in 6 times for electrical problems, 3 times for the ac, 3 times for the battery, and 1-2 times for other things. Tomorrow, i will be taking it in again for further a/c problems, brakes that catch on their own while in drive, intermittent faulty triggering of tire pressure monitoring system, and a hole that i discovered only day in the fire blanket under the hood. Apparently the engine heat has been burning a hole in it and has burned away a hole right through the blanket to the hood itself, but not through the hood yet. This car has meant time lost from work and an inordinate amount of time spent in the shop and paying for rental cars. This car is a fire and safety hazard. Fairfax county consumer protection (roy seger) had contacted vw as this car falls under the lemon law. Vw responded that they would not comply, stating that they had fixed the battery. Their response failed to account for the multitude of other problems...and now this. I have never felt so powerless. Is there anything you can do to help??
Intermittently, the factory entry remote controller fails to function. The doors have to be opened manually . The system regenerates itself when the keys is turned in the ignition.the dealership inspected the system and installed a new battery. The failure still occurs.
The electronic safety program module malfunctioned. As a result, driver lost control of the vehicle while driving 65 mph.
Dt*: the contact stated a week after having the transmission replaced by the service dealer, the vehicle was driven 60 mph on the highway, and the engine warning message read "turn the motor off immediately", as the electrical system failed and stalled the engine.the contact was able to steer and coast to a stop on the break down lane.the vehicle restarted and stalled 7 times before making one mile to the contact's driveway. The service dealer provided a number to a towing service. The service dealer diagnosed the problem as an alternator and electrical failure, due to leakage from the engine when the engine was removed to replace the transmission. No evidence was found in the garage or driveway, before or after the problem or while parked in the driveway while waiting for the tow to the service dealer. The manufacturer was notified.updated 10/25/2006 -
I went to start the car in my driveway and a red warning icon appeared on the instrument panel.i looked it up in the owners manual which stated the icon indicated a steering system failure.further, the ignition key then stuck in the ignition switch/lock and could not be removed.as a result the truck's transmission gear selector could not be taken out of the "park" detent.this resulted in my not being able to get the truck to a position where a tow truck could access the car until the snow melted two months later.the vw authorized repair center diagnosed the problem as a failure in the steering column.further, they stated that this is a common failure mode for this model and they believed a recall or campaign was imminent.this is a serious design flaw.if it had failed while being driven the results could have been catastrophic. Also vw markets this truck as suitable for off road travel in remote places, if it failed while i was in a remote area, i could have been stranded and placed in grave peril since i would not been able to roll the truck to an area suitable for recovery or flat tow it if necessary.
Currently, vw has published technical service bulletin 27-05-01 and 27-05-03 for the touareg related to bad ground connections at the battery and a faulty batch of ground/positive wires that run from the generator to the battery. However, vw will only repair the vehicle if the car goes completely dead, leaving the driver and occupants at the mercy of the environment they are stranded in. As this is a suv, the environment could be one that poses a threat to the well being of the occupants. I have opened case # 60111160 with vwoa and expressed my concerns to dwight harrison vw in snellville, ga and have received the same response......the car has to have an existing no-start condition to qualify.
The radio display system (displays radio station info, song title, and artist) quit working.the dealer has reconnected the radio and replaced the radio.each time it works fine for a few hours after returning home then it quits displaying information.the dealer said the radio isn't designed to display this info, yet it worked for a month after getting the vehicle!it works on my other car.the radio is the upgrade monsoon system with cd.
Dt: the vehicle hesitates on acceleration, and this happens intermittently.whilesteppingon the gas pedal and the vehicle hesitates. The consumertookthe vehicle to dealer, and they said this was normal, but they did say volkswagen programmed a delay in the computer chip. There is no forewarning, no lights come on, and there is no noise. This first happened onmarch 1, 2005.
I recently purchased a 2004 vw tuareg in july 1st of 2014. Immediately upon purchasing the vehicle i began receiving a parking brake alarm when i turned on the vehicle. The alarm would persist until i pushed down on the parking brake. I would also receive an occasional alarm for the tire pressure monitoring system. Then, on december 15, 2014 the vehicle refused to turn on at all. The dashboard display had a flashing steering wheel. I had the vehicle towed to a volkswagen dealership where the technicians looked it over and told me that the cause of the problem is that two cables touched and shorted out the system. After 3 weeks of holding the vehicle, the cost of repair was quoted at around $3,500 to replace some modules. I was also informed that this might be a recall issue as many other 2004 vw tuaregs have had similar problems.
Light went out on dark road. Nearly crashed. Found insulation on wires for lights deteriorated. Harness was melted lower in the fender. Online search found same issue is common and included fires.
2004 vw touareg, in the first year of ownership the car has been in the shop or in alarm mode for 220 days. I have had the car in eight times for a "tire scrubbing" problem and three times for an alarm problem. I have noe filed a law suit and sold the car without ever hearing any concerns from vw.
- the contact stated that while driving the 2004 volkswagen torgue with 31000 failure mileage at any rate of speed the tps monitoring system light turned on, and staysed on until the vehicle was restarted a couple of times.also, the vehiclepulled to the front passenger side and was wearing out the tires and brakes on that side.

Vehicle would jump forward when making turns, making it difficult to control vehicle.owner took vehicle to dealerfor repair of the transfer case 3 times. The accelerator pedal would get stuck, which was not enabling the vehicle to accelerate and to change gears. Also, windshield wipers would work intermittently, causingvisibility problemson the roadduring inclement weather. In addition, thebattery woulddrain and cause the vehicle not to turn on. Manufacturer was contacted by owner numerous times.
My 2004 v8 touareg is absolutely the biggest lemon ever built.it has been in the dealership for 11 full weeks this year with a variety of issues.the two most significant which have taken vw 5 weeks each to identify and resolve are the electrical system was completely malfunctioning and the pump to change the suspension has a leak.vw has been completely in the dark on these major problems and only after repeated trips to the dealer and many denials from vw did the admit that this car is an over engineered and poorly built car.
While driving srs air bag light appeared on the dashboard and remained on.consumer pressed down on the horn an it failed.consumer drove the vehicle to dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the clock spring needed to be replaced.
My 2004 v6 volkswagen touareg frequently stalls after the engine is cranked. This has been a problem since we purchased the vehicle in oct 2004. After cranking you can press all the way down on the gas pedal but the car will not move at all. After a few seconds, it will sputter a little then move then sputter again then it will drive normally. There is no way to tell when this will happen and i am concerned that it will cause an accident if i start the vehicle then pull out into oncoming traffic.
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. The contact stated the gear shift selector would not move out of park and he was unable to remove the key from the ignition.the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer. While the vehicle was being towed, the entire console and warning lights illuminated. In addition, the contact stated water was entering the vehicle and settling in the trunk near the spare tire. The dealer removed the shifter cable and replaced the harness, a wire and the shifter column. The failure mileage was 75,285 and the current mileage was 76,065. Updated 11/02/10. *ljthe consumer stated the trunk would not open properly. The tire sensors would come on. The ignition switch was defective and had to be replaced. Updated 11/04/10
If i drive the car for one hour and turn the engine off, when trying to restart the engine, the starter won't crank. After another hour it will reset and restart. In and out of the dealer for 7 months and several repair attempts, the starter still fails to crank.
Electrical wiring harness was mounted too close to the manifold.the clamp for these wires became too hot and caused the vehicle to stall.
The esp light came on steady and the lights around the differential switch came on flashing. Then the vehicle lost electrical power and would not start. I had it towed into the dealer and the service people indicated there were numerous recalls on this vehicle that caused this problem. I was never notified of these recalls.

The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg.the warning tone of the tire pressure monitoring system sounds intermittently.in addition, the headlights failed, and the vehicle pulledto the right sporadically and without warning.the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure.the contact possessedthe repair invoices.the failuremileage began at 100.the consumer stated the failures continue, she has had multiple problems with this vehicle brake rotors replace at 15,000 miles, brake pads had to be replaced at 18,000 miles, two tires replace at 16,000 miles, tps lights continue to go on and off been fixed, four new tires at 30,000 miles. The consumer states that there have been 9 recalls and tps lights still in failure. Update 05/04/07
Instrument panel light failed.dealer stated there was too much resistance within the wiring harness.as a result, vehicle could catch on fire.
The radio in the 2004 vw touraegg is extremely dangerous due to its design which requires the driver to take their eyes off the road to change the stations on the radio in a way that is untypical of any radio being designed today.you must push between 4 to 6 buttons to go between am and fm stations and find the station you want to listen to.it requires the driver to take their eyes off the road and be distracted for way too long.when doing city driving you can do it at red lights but on the highway it's very dangerous.please look into this and test it in a touraeg - it can't be understood unless you get in the car.cup holders are so shallow that cups and bottles go flying out and land under the feet of the driver near the gas pedal or going flying into the passenger foot area. Also very dangerous.the categories don't really identify this complaint but i hope you'll take it seriously and check the car.i have been driving for almost 40 years and this was a "sleeper" issue not evident at purchase but is the most dangerous ridiculous feature i've ever seen in a good car.i have been to the dealership and they told me to simply listen to one radio station.my children bought me an ipod to solve the problem and the radio is programed so that you can't use an ipod easily either because it doesn't allow you access to unused stations.
To whom it may concern, i drive a 2004 vw touareg. I want to report a technical problem regarding themulti function indicator (trip computer, or mfi) in the instrument cluster which vw doesn't acknowladge.my touareg has a color mfi module (lcd based) which shows the clock, gear, cd info etc, between the speedometer and the tachometer (in themiddle of the instrument cluster).the problem is that mfi constantly buzz as soon it is powered up (opening the door, don't need to insert the key intothe ignition) and the sound goes away when the mfi shuts off.while the car is in motion mfi is always on, and the noise gets quiet annoying. I don't know what causes it or how to eliminate this sound.i try to dim the instrument cluster's lightning, however this has no effect.also when the lights are on, the noise get louder. Overall, this issue creates a disturbance for the driver, and may cause an accident.vw doesn't identify this problem, however i have heard and read from other websites about people complaning about this issue.thanking you for your assistance and interest, and hope to hear from you soon.warmest regards, barr [email protected]
I was driving on the highway @ 70mpr when all of a sudden without warning the car starts acting sluggish for a min then back to normal, and randomly for the next hour or so does(i had a ways to go) this a few more times. I got to my destination and let her rest for the night. The next morning it was doing fine except now the emission control light came on and stayed on. By this time it was time for the 100,000 mile maintenance to be done and it did great until about 6 months later i was driving @ 35mpr when it started loosing power, tho i only lost a little bit of power steering was forced to come to a stop, which just happen to be a one way bridge, baby in the car and had to push myself the rest of the way across it. Once off the bridge i turned the car off (it stayed on til i did this) let it rest a minute and it started up fine and let me go a few blocks still sluggish and then lost power again. I repeated this process for about 5 miles or so when i was forced to park it cuz i didn't want to risk crossing the highway again. Had it towed to dealership where they did the flange recall, that didnt' fix the problem so had to replace both fuel pumps and that was roughly @ 103,000. 8 months later it happens again this time around 107,000. Dealership took 4 hours to diagnose only to tell me i need the fuel tank replaced because somehow all the wires, connectors, and caps that have to do with the fuel lines/tank/pumps are either missing, cracked, or damaged so i need a wiring harness as well. They are quoting a me $5000 fix!!!
Wouldn't start so had it towed to northland volkswagen. There they tested and said i needed steering column replaced and wiring done . Not sure but have never had problems with column not performing correctly but i don't have a clue about wiring inside one. The repairs are 2538.08 and 1567.77 is for the column.
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. While driving at 45 mph, there was an abnormal noise coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. In addition, the contact stated that the brake pedal was difficult to depress. The contact had to apply force to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. All warning lights illuminated on the instrument cluster. The vehicle was taken to a dealer multiple times. The contact was unsure about what repairs were performed however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 31,000. The vin was unavailable.
The touareg made some rattling noise while i was driving at 35 mph. As soon i stopped and made it my destination and turned off the car the car wouldn't start up. I took it to the dealership and the dealership couldn't figure out why the car wouldn't start. Finally, after a well over a week, they determined that i needed to replace all six fuel injectors. The fuel injectors got replaced now the car turns on but as soon as you step on the gas the car dies.
Drive it short distance and it won't start again for hours!have taken it to vw to put on brakes and asked them to check it out, found nothing! they have known about this recall since april 2017shows air bag light on all the time !
Car stalls, skips gears, jerks, when coming from a full stop to accelerating jerks and pull really hard going into 1st and 2nd gear,, took it to the dealer after paying 800 dollar they could find anything wrong,, and that was vw dealer.... I've been seein alot of the same complaints for this specific model and year, can some please let me know if volkswagen is not going to take responsibility for this issue atleast tell me what could be wrong, so i can fix it and get rid of this stupid car. Im better off with an american car...

While drivingat highway speeds vehicle stalled, forcing the consumer to pull off the road. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealership to be inspected, andmechaniccould not duplicate the problem.
The vehicle is undrivable / unpredictable when the ambient temperature is below zero (f). This problem was observed for 4 days in feb. 2004. The car will start, but surges and balks so badly you can't drive it. This condition will continue for over 20 minutes. It will re-occur the next time you try and use the vehicle so long as the temperature is below zero. The safety hazard is that it leaves you stranded wherever this happens. There's nothing the operator can do.vw has tried 3 repairs: (1) change the engine oil to synthetic, (2) & (3) reprogram the engine computer twice to supposedly fix this problem.it's now 2 years later, and we are experiencing below zero weather again, and the exactsame problem persists. My dealer is not able to find any information on this problem, and can't get assistance from vw. I will contact vwoa directly and initiate a case.finally, in researching this problem, i have found many other owners of the v6 engine who report this problem and say it's never been corrected.
When pulling out into traffic from a stop vehicle intermitently hesitates for a few seconds. It seems as though the engine is not responding to the electronic throttle or the transmission is slipping. This is a dangerous problem when pulling inot traffic from a side street or making aleft turn into oncoming traffic. I was almost rea-ended the other day. I also feel that if i make a left turn into ongoing traffic with a normal margin of safety, the vehicle could hestitate and i could be hit head-on or broadsided. It is a dangerous problem. I have returned the vehicle to the dealer twice. The first time they said they loaded in new ecu firmware and new tcu firmware. It didn't fix the problem. I returned the vehicle to the same dealer and they indicated that the volkswagon factory engineers are working on a new firmware release and should have it out the first part of december 2004. They said they would call me to install the new firmware when available.
2004 volkswagen touareg loss power own 3 occasions at 780 miles. Windshield wipers did not work in the intermittent mode, tire pressuring monitoring system malfunctioned. ***no answer required***the tire pressuring monitoring system was giving a false reading as if there was a problem with the tires.
My vehicle has an electronic throttle control which is extremely sensitive and from a standing start, does not respond to small incremental input on the accelarator pedal. Instead, once the pedal is depressed enough, the throttle responds and the vehicle lunges forward. This type of throttle response is dangerous, in that in a parking lot, or when parallel parking, or when in stop-and-go traffic during rush hour, it's virtually impossible to get the vehicle to move forward slowly (under 10 mph). Sooner or later, the action of the throttle will cause a driver to either hit another vehicle or perhaps a pedestrian.i have contacted vw of america and filed a complaint with them as well. They did not indicate if they are working on resolving this problem or not. My selling dealer was aware of similar complaints from toureg owners, but also has not received a service bulletin or recall from vw as to how to correct the problem.i would assume, since it's an electronic throttle, that the program embedded within some computer chip within the ecu will need to be replaced with one having a modified program to better control the throttle response curve.
I brought a volkswagen touareg. This vehicle has a lot problems with thebrake and engine. So i filed a lemon request. Last month, vw asked me to drop this vehicle to vw dealer to investigate the brake problem. On march 23, the vw expert test drove my touareg and had an accident because the brakes failed. There is a police report.the rear wiper made a clicking noise. Updated 05/04/06.the check engine light illuminated. The dealer replaced the engine control module. The transmission control module was updated.updated06/01/06.
Dt*:the contact stated that the vehicle stalled completely while driving at 5 mph, and the starter motor would not engage when the key was turned to restart the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer where the dealer was unable to determine the problem.
2004 touareg v6 engine has been a torment, with 40 different problems!but two of theproblems could be considered safety concerns! eradicate braking with lurching and acceleration hesitation both of which set up an unpredictable driving style! both of these problems are magnified when attempting a left turn.the driver can not depend on a assuredperformance at critical times . A driver must have confidence that his or her vehicle will perform with assurance at all times !
I was driving a short distance from my house (2 miles) when i noticed my car not driving normally. I had driven it the 3 previous days with no problem.i finished my errand, then proceeded to head home.it was noticeably getting worse.i smelled something at a stoplight, not sure if it was my car, or car alongside of me.i saw a light had come on, on my dashboard (ck. Engine?) and looked at the gauges, everything was normal.i decided to head home first to have my neighbor follow me up to repair shop.parked in driveway, went inside my home to call her, looked out my open front door about 5 minutes later where i saw smoke and smelled it.ran out, my auto was seriously smoking heavy brown smoke, ran next door to call 911, and auto burst into flames and caught house on fire also. I am now in a hotel because of major fire and smoke damage.
When making right or left turns the vehicle's engine hesitated.the consumer was concerned that the failure would result in an accident.
When trying to accelerate on occasion the car will stall and the accelerator will not produce any action.i was in an intersection trying to merge into traffic and got into the intersection and tried to accelerate and could not.very scary.the car has done it repeatedly under less threatening circumstances.
2004 vw touareg v8. These vehicles exhibits frequent but inconsistent delay in throttle response.this issue arises most often in heavy traffic when the driver comes to a rolling stop.when shifting inputs from the brake to the throttle the vehicle will frequently exhibit a 1-2 second delay before there is any response from the engine.this has two dangerous consequences.first, the driver may increase the throttle pressure waiting for a response, then getting more then expected acceleration when the engine finally responds.second, the driver could be left sitting in an oncoming lane waiting for the engine to respond and take the vehicle safely across the intersection.i have reported this to two different vw dealers, one of which turned the complaint to vw.there has been no action taken, or further response from vw.
Our 2004 vw touareg v-8 has the following problems despite five trips to the dealer:i) hesitation during acceleration; ii) pulls hard to the right; and iii) shifts roughly at low speeds.past problems include:iv) the latch on the rear door broke, such that it came crashing down on my wife's head; v) the rear seat belt latch wouldn't work; vi) the car shuddered badly when you tried to make a turn at low speeds (e.g., while parking) and vii) the flat tire indicator went on even though the tire was neither flat nor low.we have an arbitration scheduled for 11/9/05 under california's lemon law.
I own a volkswagentourareg. The car hesitated before accelerating into an intersection. I am on record with the dealer. This happened several times ,and once almost caused an accident. I am an attorney in florida, and because of volkswagen'sinaction in this area i was considering a lawsuit in the southern district of florida federal court system. In pursuing the internet i found several owners of the 2004 touareg with the same problem.
I bought a 2004 volkswagen touareg new and treated it like a baby.dealer service, never off-road.at 80,000 miles (i commute 200 miles per day on the freeway) the engine blew.dealer said that after the vehicle had been parked and turned off the fuel injector partially filled a cylinder with liquid gasoline.later when the vehicle was started the piston slammed into the liquid and blew the engine.parts alone to repair are $15,000.since the cost of repairs exceeds the value of the vehicle i won't be repairing it -- it is a total loss.
Consumer complained aboutintermittent stalling. When driving on the highway at approximately 60 mph vehicle stalled as if the motor shut down. When this occurred vehicle lost power.has took vehicle to dealer, and contactedmanufacturer. Yet none of themseemed to know how to resolve the problem.
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. The contact stated that the oxygen sensor emmissions warning light remained illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate fast enough due to an rpm malfunction. The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed, but was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 134,447.
2004 volkswagen touareg has a burning odor coming from the vents. *mr the consumer attempted to turn on the a/c when the burning odor occurred.the odor was so strong that the consumers daughter had become sick and vomited in the vehicle.also, the air bags did not work. *sc
2004 vw touareg with tire failure and key programming. Consumer states he had to replace the tires due to a puncture in one of the sidewall tires. The second key received needed to be programmed and dealer charged him for programming.the consumer stated he gets low gas mileage. When the vehicle was returned to the consumer, the tire monitoring system would come on and go off repeatedly. The drive shaft was replaced due to a vibration when making turns. The front brakes needed to be replaced.
Light went out on dark road. Nearly crashed. Found insulation on wires for lights deteriorated. Harness was melted lower in the fender. Online search found same issue is common and included fires.
Defective headlights in 2004 vw touareg, lights go out periodically while you are driving. This was an issue covered by a class action lawsuit. Now vw won't even talk to you about it and refers you to an 800 number that was disconnected years ago. This is a major safety issue and vw is running away from their liability. Typical behavior for vw.
This is a problem impacting a large percentage of 2005-2006 vw touaregs with hid headlights.wire in headlamp assembly is to small for load.the insulation decays due to heat and results in a short which will blow the fuse for affected headlight.usually occurs when switching on high beams or hitting a large bump. While there is an inexpensive diy fix, outlined in below link, vw is telling owners they need to spend $950 per headlamp to replace the assembly. Http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/f43/touareg-dead-xenon-fix-code-01344-a-103130.html.
The headlight assemblies on this vehicle fail due to the internal wiring inside of the housing. This leads to zero visibility during night time. The headlights when operating correctly also do not produce enough light output to be able to see during the night even with a brand new assembly.
The headlights continuously short out and stop working. The wires on the headlights have no insulation because it has fallen off. This problem has been fixed multiple times and still continues to happen. I contacted the local vw dealership and was not helped. I contacted vw corporate office and no help. There was a class action suit against vw for this very issue. More than once it has left my dad stranded because he had no headlightsto drive home with.
While driving at night on the garden state parkway at 65mph all of the lights, both exterior and interior, went out for about 7 seconds. This had happened once before during daylight hours. The car does not stall, but is completely dark. I advised volkswagen of america of this problem by letter dated april 17, 2014. On tuesday april 22, 2014 a representative of volkswagen called me and advised that since the vehicle was "out of warranty" they would not inspect the vehicle to analyze/determine the cause of the problem. I was surprised by this indifference to a serious safety problem since the 2004touareg is notorious for problems with its electrical system, including reports of stalling. The local dealer inspected parts of the electrical system and could not determine the cause of the problem.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving the vehicle the passenger side or driver's side headlight darkened.there were no warning indicators or dashboard lights illuminated to indicate there was a failure with the headlight(s).eventually, the other headlight darkened. The only way the lights would illuminate again is by restarted the ignition.the dealership replaced a computer chip, changed the bulbs and other unknown repairs were made, however the problem still persists. Updated 8/14/2006 - the tire warning light illuminated.the dealer replaced the control unit.

The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. The contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor coming from the rear driver side of the vehicle. The contact called a local dealer (platinum volkswagen, 45 nelson ave, hicksville, ny 11801) and was informed that the parts were on backorder. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and opened case number: [xxx]. No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 220,638.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I was parking the vehicle in a tight parking lot and maneuvering around a tree in order to pull further up into the space.as i gently pushed down on the accelerator to inch into the spot, the car lurched forward at a very high rate of speed crashing into a wooden garbage box.i jammed on the brakes before going through the fence.i was incredibly lucky that i was no longer aiming at the tree.it was as though the car suddenly wanted to peal out in a manner that was totally out of sync with the amount of pressure on the gas pedal.it just started speeding toward the fence/box.looking back on it, i believe that this happened a couple of days before as i started to accelerate after stopping at a stop sign.though the reaction of the car was similar, it was not nearly so pronounced.it felt as though the car was tripping over itself.i had the insurance tow the car to the mechanic but so far he has not been able to replicate theproblem.i spoke with both the local vw serviceman and vw north america but they denied ever hearing about such a problem.i have had this car for over 6 years and have never had this happen before the other day.
When making right or left turns the vehicle's engine hesitated.the consumer was concerned that the failure would result in an accident.
2004 tourag has a hestiency in starting causing the vehcile to not move immediately and then surge forward.we also own an audi that had the same problem and the regional audi mechanical rep got it stopped.vw might want to check with audi.
In previous weeks, several intermittent mil lights for loose gas cap came on and off.checked codes, found "large evap leak" in the memory which confirmed the gas cap suspicion.i found several small cracks in the seal and was planning on replacing the cap.faint gasoline odor could be detected after shutdown and while stored in garage overnight.today, immediately following a fill-up to the auto shutoff level, a large amount of gasoline began dripping from the mid-left underside of the car in very close proximity to hot exhaust parts. (ignition off but still very hot). I estimate at least 2-3 cups of fuel was spilled.no mil light at the time.i inspected the left fuel pump area and found a severe fuel leak (source not determined) on the exposed top of the pump, submerging an electrical connector in fuel.what is most concerning is the rather benign "gascap" warning and then the major fuel leak.the manual states if the mil flashes at any time, to immediately take the car in for service. At no time did the mil flash. In fact, it went out by itself at least 3 times and was not on at the time of the incident.
There was a recall issued on my vehicle back on september 20th 2017, i called the dealership on october 23rd 2017 to find out a resolution to this problem, they advised there was not a remedy yet but would contact me when there was. It has not been almost 6 months since the recall was issued with no contact from dealer or resolution. This vehicle is used by my wife to transport my children and it is unsafe, as we have started to smell gasoline in and around the vehicle, i have no noticed any major leaks yet but i do not want her driving the vehicle until it is fixed and it should not take 6 months to do so
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. When the vehicle was fueled up, a strong odor of fuel emitted into the vents. The contact noticed a puddle of fuel underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic to determine the cause of the failure. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v583000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was not contacted and made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,171.
I received a letter from volkswagen of america, in march of 2018, stating that there is a safety recall 20ai-fuel pump flange for my make and model of vehicle.i had already had that repair done, due to a severe leak in my fuel pump (gas was pouring out of the bottom of the vehicle as as fast as i was pumping the gas in on one occasion).i had to have my vehicle towed to a repair facility and couldn't drive it until it was repaired.then,3 years later, i recieved a recall announcement from volkswagen for the exact repair that i had done for the faulty fuel pump flange.i completed the reimbursement form and submitted it to volkswagen.my reimbursement was rejected because my repair was made prior to the recall being issued. I was told by volkswagen representatives that the nhtsa limits recall repairs and reimbursements, and it's the responsibility of the nhtsa because they set the timeline.
Fuel flange is defective on this truck but is excluded by vw for some strange reason considering it only mention touaregs starting at 2007 &2010 they all have the same part that's defective the dealership refuses to cover my vehicle and they confirmed this serious problem why is this year 2004not covered
Suv is not getting gas to engine
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. While driving approximately 40 mph, an odor of fumes was detected without warning. The vehicle was taken to coachella valley volkswagen (79050 varner rd, indio, ca 92203, 760-200-4000) where the technician found a fuel leak and replaced the filter flanges. The failure recurred four years later. The vehicle was taken to volkswagen of palm springs (67909 e palm canyon dr., cathedral city, ca 92234, 855-996-5429) where the filter flanges were replaced again due to a fuel leak. The contact later received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v583000 (fuel system, gasoline). The contact called the manufacturer, reported the failures, and demanded reimbursement. The contact stated that the manufacturer denied the reimbursement, stating the repairs were performed prior to the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
I received a safety recall 20ai regarding my volkswagen touareg, it is a serious safety recall as it involves the fuel possible leakage; however, the recall repair is not yet available, and i am supposed watch out for fuel leak/smell !!! i am now not enjoying driving my car and feeling it is safe anymore for kids. I am requesting that this safety recall be fixed right now. I don't know how, but probably the car maker knows, as he knew how to manufacture, sell and make profit out of these cars.
One morning in june 2017 my husband stopped for gas. After getting gas he started to turn out of the gas station when our car (2004 volkswagen touareg) stopped moving and shut down. My husband tried several times to start and move the car, but to no avail.the car had to be towed (at our expense) to our local gas station.the gas station performed $1,164.16 worth of work. They did an excellent job of locating the problem and fixing it for a reasonable price. In november 2017 we received a safety recall notice from volkswagen. The recall is 'safety recall 20ai - fuel filter flange.'however, the recall notice stated that vw does not have a fix yet for the issue.this appears to be the issue that happened to our car.we chatted online with a vw agent, explained everything and she said that there was nothing they could do at this point. The vw agent provided me with a case #(171803619), but said that there was no fix and, that until vw came up with a fix, there would be no way that we could recoup our money spent. We didn't understand how they do not have a fix, since it happened to our car and it's fixed and running fine today. We'd like to recoup our money spent out of pocket for what seems to be a safety recall which no one is doing anything about.
Drive it short distance and it won't start again for hours!have taken it to vw to put on brakes and asked them to check it out, found nothing! they have known about this recall since april 2017shows air bag light on all the time !
Takata recall vehicle starts leaking a lot of gas when i gas attempted to drive back home after work i had to call atown truckbecause i was scared it could itexplodewhile driving vw should put more attention this mistakes could end up in fatality.for examplei use to sit my 5 years old childon top ofthis fuel pump right behind thedriver side what if it xplode??who's going to take that
I smell gas inside the car and yesterday i got mail from volkswagen about a recall because of a cracked fuel pump flange.
Smelt fuel coming from rear bench seat - - opened covers to see cracks in both fuel filter cartridges. Had the fuel filters and cartridges on both sides replaced and checked by vw dealership in fairfield, ca.
Some weeks ago, the tv news reported a recall for my vehicle. I have had no other notification. I have lived here for 51 years and haven't changed my phone number.what is most disturbing is that your website knows nothing about this!!!besides cashing your paycheck, what else do you do to justify breathing???
Fuel flange on driver side is cracking and leaking fuel under pressure.there is a recall on the 2007 - 2010 models.mine is suffering the same problem
There is a strong smell of gasoline outside of the car after the car has been driven (or while it's driving, but it's not often i'm outside of the car while it's running).this is due to the plastic housing on the fuel pump that has developed a crack, and is leaking gasoline.this is similar to another recall, 17v583000, which is for the fuel filter flange, but vw is saying they will not cover it under that because this is the housing, not the flange.but it's the same result...
This is a complaint regarding the way that volkswagen is handling the safety recall 20z4 (fuel pump flange).my car smelled like gasoline and i had received the safety recall letter in the mail, so took my car into volkswagen immediately as directed.they told me that they do not yet have the replacement part, but that they could "patch" the problem by replacing the flange with a new flange.however, i would have to pay for the flange replacement ($590), and then once the recall is "validated" and the replacement part comes in, they would repair the car and then i could send in my receipt for vw to re-reimburse me.they said that if i did not pay for the temporary repair that i would be driving my car at my own risk. I do not have an extra $590 lying around to pay for this repair, even if at some point in the future i might be reimbursed.
Fuel flank was sealed by the dealership. However, there is fuel leaking.
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. While driving various speeds, a strong fuel odor emitted through the vents of the vehicle. The contact also stated that the fuel gauge failed to provide the accurate reading. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v583000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the part needed for the repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact the part was not available for the repair. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
Unexpected and sudden electrical malfunction of the steering column lock causing the vehicle to shut down, unable to start or move shifter lever out of gear.
Sensors on the door handle for the 2004 vw touareg failing to work. I put my child in the back seat and shut the door and the locks engaged with the keys inside.2 yr old child was locked in the car until i could break into the house and get a spare set of keys.
Door handels stick in the open position so doors do not close. Taken to dealer, dealer did not fix issue. My daughter's hand then was hurt after door slammed into her as it was did not latch due to sticking door handels. Called volkswagen, then booked the car for repair. After collecting car from dealer's second repair, the problem still occurs, but at not as often. Car still defective.
Passenger door opened going down the road, handle does not retract sometimes.a litany of electric quirks and excessive tire wear, also jerky acceleration.
Every time the car is started the warning light shows that the parking brake is engaged.i never use the parking brake.i have talked to the dealer and they say that the parking brake pedal needs to be "hand lifted" to clear the warning light.when i tried this it did clear the warning light from the dash.my question is why would my parking brake be engaged if i never have used the parking brake?it may just be some malfunction with their warning lights or sensors, but how i am i to know if this is a real parking brake warning?
Airbag module defective with only 54,496 miles and a $1200 cost to fix.this is a safety issue!dash lighting has went on and off forairbag.a washer pump defective, power train transmission jumps and has been an ongoing problem and known problem by volkswagen but nobody wants to admit the defect problem.
Rear center drive shaft from gearbox to differential, middle bearing fails. Volkswagen only supplies new shafts for $1,400 no bearings or exchange. This happens to a lot of touaregs according the clubtouareg forum. This is a premature design failure of this car.
( started noticing this problem about 1 to 2 years ago)while the automatic transmission is in 5th gear and speeds of under 50 mi./hr, when stepping on the accelerator, the automatic down shift occurs with a very harsh "kick" to a point that the passengers feel the jolt. Afew years ago, a similar problem regarding the down-shift was subject of recall which the dealers had to install a "patch" ( updated software) in order to fix that problem.
The center carrier bearing on the drive shaft went out. At first it sounded like i had a flat tire but upon further inspection that was not the case. This seems to be a common failure. I was told a design flaw and all of these would fail.. The dealership says that the entire drive shaft has to be replaced. But it will not be covered since it is out of warranty. Since this is a common failure it should be fixed by vw and not costing all their customers over a grand to fix.
Transmission jumps, lunges, has done this since 2009. The dealer states it needs replacing. Should be replaced by volkswagen.
At 94,000 miles transmission problems, told transmission non-serviceable vw does not recommend any transmission fluid replacement. Could be gear box cost $2400 or entire transmission cost $7,000. Vwa will pay $1,000 to our choice of gear box or transmission replacement but if we choose wrong repair will not pay for anything further!vwa obviously is aware of problem and designed the transmission in such a way that it can't be serviced. We have had prior engine coil recall replaced, updated computer software and replaced drive-train at cost of $1900 at 74,000 miles.
I have a 2004 vw touareg v8, i have a airbag light that come on (airbag fault), nowthe tran light is coming on when i start the suv.
Driving along in a residential neighborhood under slight acceleration and a loud thumping noise begins in the transmission hump under the armrest - felt like something heavy had become wrapped around the driveshaft and was causing intense vibration above 30mph. Park the car and tow to repair shop and learn the drive shaft had broken and required complete replacement. This is a vehicle that has never been offroad and vast majority of miles are commuting on the freeway and general around-town driving.no way should a well-maintained vehicle doing light highway driving suffer a driveshaft failure at only 105k miles.clearly a defect that the manufacturer should be responsible for.repair bill was approximately $1600.
In december 2009 my 2004 vw touareg was in park with the engine idling while my son, who was driving the car, got out of the car to speak to a parking lot attendant.his wife was in the passenger seat and their two children were in car seats in the rear seat.about 2 minutes later, while my son was still out of the car, the car began to roll backwards into a busy street in nyc.he ran after the car while his wife frantically tried to get out of her seat belt to move into the driver's seat.he caught up with the car and jumped in and hit the brake to stop the car.he looked over at the gear shift thinking that it had been moved inadvertently but the car was still in park.he then turned off the ignition.the car was idling in park on a relatively flat surface - there are no real hills in nyc.he took his life in his hands to avoid a disaster whereby the car would have certainly been hit broadside in the busy adjoining street with his family in the vehicle.we took the car into a vw dealer repair shop near my home in maryland the next week and they checked the car out thoroughly, but could not find anything wrong, nor could they duplicate the experience.this was a frightening and dangerous experience and i am afraid that it could happen again.
My 2004 vw touareg has a serious safety issue with its transmission.when accelerating from a stop or low speed the truck hesitates and then lurches forward.i have contacted vw and the dealership with no resolution.i have talked with other touareg owners and they have the same complaint, so it appears to be affecting more than a single vehicle.i would ask the nhtsa to help touareg owners by forcing vw to acknowledge this issue and find a resolution before there is a fatality due to this safety issue.
Automatic transmission shifts erratically from first to second gear.car often hesitates when accelerating from a near stop.causes a danger when merging or crossing intersections.
The manufacturer was notified.updated 10/25/2006 -
Dt*: the contact stated that there automatic transmission was not operating properly.while traveling at highway speeds, the vehicle would not downshift smoothly. As an alternative pressure was applied to the brakes which in the event of an emergency braking situation the vehicle felt as if it would not stop in time this was caused by the pressure to the transmission.this problem occurs on a daily basis.the vehicle was at a dealership for 3 and a half weeks and the dealer determined the vehicle was operating under normal operating standards.the contact expressed that this is a serious safety concern.
My 2004 vw touareg has had an ongoing safety issue since purchase in july of 2004 with regards to the transmission. When accelerating from a stop or low speed the vehicle will often hesitate while running the engine rpms up to 3000-4000 then drop into gear and lurch forward. The transmission also erratically shifts from first to second gearand often hesitates for more than a few seconds before engaging this causes a danger when merging with traffic or crossing intersections. I have contacted the dealer and volkswagen of north america with no resolution.
Same as others on site have noted:the 2003 touareg v8 hesitates upon acceleration, resulting in a surge forward when the engine finally "catches."i find this very dangerous.we took it to the dealership; they couldn't replicate the action (unfortunately didn't have time to drive with them to demonstrate -- but will this week). I would also like to ask the nhtsa to help touareg owners by forcing vw to acknowledge this issue and find a resolution before an injury occurs.
Car: 2004 volkswagen touareg v6 suv38,900milesproblem: car frequently jerks while slowing down (at speeds between 20-40mph). Was told drive shaft was damaged and needed to be replaced at a cost of $1,150 parts plus labor of approx. $1,000 which included computer diagnostic.upon pick up from mechanic problem still persisted so i took thecar back to mechanic.i was told that damaged drive shaft damaged 2 valves in the transmission which now also need replacing at a cost of $1600. I was also told by the mechanic that they had received a 'bulletin" on the car regarding similar complaints about this problem from several owners.this car only has 39,000 miles and is driven with care.it seems extremely premature to have anything of this nature happen especially at a cost of almost $4000 out of pocket to me and other owners.i ask that you please look into volkswagen's responsibility in correction/reimbursement (possible recall)of this situation.
I have experienced the following issue approximately 5 or 6 times, in a 4 to 5 month period. I have contacted my local vw dealership & their national headquarters. I have not had any resolution or any status updates. What is the problem with the vehicle? will the problem be corrected soon? do i need to get trade or sell my vehicle?(1) usually when slowing down, in the 40-50 mph range, while turning in a curve (2) my 04 touareg feels (shudders) as if it has slipped a gear. There is no indication or warning when it will occur. The first 2 times it happened, i almost lost control of the vehicle(3) i have contacted my local vw dealership, service manager, and the vw us headquarters. They tell me that i am not the only one experiencing these problems, that they are trying to determine the cause and solution.thank you,
Several transmission failures where the engine would lose power and wouldn't shift.
Dt: the consumer states his 2004 volkswagen touareg was having a throttle delay problem.this is especially bad when pulling out from an intersection.this lasted for about 2-4 seconds and it is intermittent.after the vehicle has a delay the rpms go up t 3,000 to 4,000.this has been happening for about a year.the vehicle has been at the dealership for this problem 4 times.a regional technical representative came and examined the vehicle.he tried to flash the vehicle and upgraded the computer system.this still has not worked.the vehicle has consistently became worse.the owner has an appointment with volkswagen next week to assess the problem again.also, the dealer has been contacted by the manufacturer, who wanted more diagnostic work done.speed was not a factor.it is coming from a stop to pulling out that the throttle is having the delay.the consumer is providing all the information that he has available at this time.the driver window was inoperative and the heater blower fan was noisy.*sc
2004 vw touareg miles 72,000brought into dealership, because of transmission was acting up.told i need new transmission, not under warrantyhow can the car need new transmission at 72,000 milesother people have had troubles with this suvvw should replace this, tons of stuff has gone wrong with suv.
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen toureg suv. The contact stated that immediately after the vehicle was started, it would either shudder or stall. Also, when traveling at speeds of 1 mph and higher, the vehicle would shake in between shifting gears. The dealer performed a diagnostic test on the vehicle but could not duplicate the failure. The failure continued to occur.to date, no repairs were made to correct the failure nor were there any recalls pertaining to the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 87,850.
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. When the contact accelerated more than 45 mph, the vehicle began vibrating, shaking and was stuck in neutral. Eventually, the vehicle began accelerating at the desired speed. Occasionally, when the failure occurred the contact had to shut the engine off; however, it would operate normally after a few minutes.the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure; however, the failure recurred 4 months later and the dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact is aware of the safety risk involved. The dealer and themanufacturer stated that they would not be responsible for the repair cost. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 69,000.updated 10/06/09.*ljthe consumer was informed the transmission fluid was burnt. Updated 10/06/09
Dt*:the contact stated the transmission disengaged while driving 65 mph.the vehicle acted as if it was in neutral, regardless of the position of the shifter.the transmission would not engage in any position including park.the engine continued to run, but there was no power to the wheels.after several attempts to restart, the transmission re-engaged.the vehicle has been to the dealership five times for inspection and repairs.they have replaced the battery, alternator, flashed the transmission control module, engine control module, and differential control module however the problem still exists.the vehicle is currently at the dealership awaiting further inspection.the manufacturer was alerted.updated 07/25/06.
When accelerating from a very slow speed or a "rolling" stop, the car hesitates or stalls before accelerating, then lurches forward. This problem occurs randomly, but consistently. When driving up a hill to a stop, the vehicle regularly jumps forward at the last downshift in the stopping process. This is dangerous and threatens my safety, those around me in traffic, my passengers, and other potential drivers of my vehicle. I've been told by volkswagen of america & my dealer that this is the way this suv is designed to perform. The fact that the "hesitations/stalls" occur at random only furthers my point that this is clearly a defect and not "just the way this model drives" and "you just have to get used to it" as i was told by the service manager at martens vw.
-the contact stated that since she purchased thevehicleacceleration has been sluggish.the dealer stated that it wasthe nature of the beast, and there was nothing that they could do about it.the engine was not powerful enough to sustain the weight of the vehicle.the contactoften took the vehicle for repairs.neither road nor weather conditions have beenfactors in the failure.when accelerating from a dead stop, acceleration is slow but steady, when accelerating while moving between 40 mph acceleration is non-existent for approximately 3 seconds and then takes off fast.updated 03/30/07.
I have a 2004 touareg and have been having transmission issues hard shifts, bucking and hard downshifts.i have taken this to the vw dealer and they say there is nothing wrong with the transmission.it is very very dangerous when access the highway and in several cases it shifts so hard that it knocks it's self out and you have to pull off the highway until resets to 4th gear from 6th.i now have to shift manually.i have this issu e daily and i know this is a wide spread issue.
We have a volkswagon toureg v6 automatic and standard transmission.we brought the car in for ovelrall service and to inspect transmission for possible faulty gear box. Dealership replaced transfer case as well as inspected case steeper motor.car was kept for three days for repairs and then anotger three days to get the part and replace.perfomance of the cars automtic shifting capabilites has been poor.notice that car has problems shift from 1st , 2nd to 3rd. High revs the engine.also notice at higher speeds the car sometime cause the car to lurch into lower gear we have also experienced car stalling on steep hills when in gear .
Transmission has terrible shift characteristics.unless the vehicle is completely stopped, the transmission won't downshift to 1st or when it does it launches you into the car in front.the vehicle seems to stumble bad from a stop if it hasn't downshifted into low gear.i think the computer needs to be reprogrammed for a smoother start!
While driving transmissionshifted from fifth gear to first gear.consumer pulled over, and turned the vehicle off.then, vehicle was reprogrammed, andconsumer was able to drive it to the dealer for inspection.at first the mechanic couldnot duplicate the problem.but the mechanic informed the driver that the control module needed to be replaced.
Heard a knocking sound from below on my 2004 volkswagen touareg. Looked under my car, the middle under carriage was gone. There was a knocking and thumping noise in the vehicle. Thought it was just the undercarriage, but when the part came in and installed it, the knocking was still there. Drove it last night because i need my car; i heard my car have rattling noises underneath. Sounds like there's loss parts under the car. I never took my car off road, the roads on oahu are terrible, but never had this ever done on my older cars. I was researching online and saw that a lot of other touareg owners have/had the same problem. I'm not going to pay for a default part, especially when the drive shaft and its bearings are the main parts of the car powertrain. I haven't done anything wrong with this vehicle and feel that volkswagen will need to pay for this fix.
Drive shaft support bearing failure @ 62,000 miles. Manufacturer vw does not sell individual broke part but sells assembly which cost $1,100 plus tax. This is common and should be a factory recall.
Drive train failed within warranty period.also, the module failed within six months of the drive train being replaced. The abs module however; failed 3 months after warranty expired. As a result i skidded unpredictably on ice and came within inches of causing a serious accident.$1500 was quoted to me to replace the module.
Transmisson fails to engage when starting from a slow roll or stop. Dealer has been unable to reproduce intermittent problem. After many trips to dealer nothing has been done or been replaced.i was told that the car was operating to manufactures specs and there was nothing wrong with the car.
The esp light came on steady and the lights around the differential switch came on flashing. Then the vehicle lost electrical power and would not start. I had it towed into the dealer and the service people indicated there were numerous recalls on this vehicle that caused this problem. I was never notified of these recalls.
Rear middle seat belt was jammed after folding down the rear seat.
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. The contact stated that the rear middle seat belt seized. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and it was determined that seat belt should be replaced but the manufacturer did not know how to properly correct the problem. The failure and current mileages were 82,000.
Passenger sitting behind driver in 2004 volkswagen toureg was injured when driver left the car. Electric seat retracted back and down onto the passenger' s feet that were under the drivers seat. Seat action occurs automatically to make it easier for the driver to exit the vehicle.
Dt: the problem began on 4-04. Problems with brakes. Hydraulic brakes are pulling, causing excessive screeching noise and brake dust. Brakes are now grinding. Brakes have been serviced 3 times in the last year. Volkswagen will not offer any further assistance. Dealer reports that volkswagen is working on problem in general. Occurs in all weather anddriving conditions. Problem is gradual and worsening. On last servicing, vehicle was reported to have had a brake resurfacing. Brakes are all wheel. Also, driver's seat is not going up and is broken.
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. The contact stated that he took the vehicle to the dealer for regular service when he was advised that the brakes needed replacing. The contact was also advised that the bolts to the calipers were fractured along with the steering links, which would also need replacing. The dealer repaired the brake disk, calipers, brake lining, bolts and the steering knuckles. The manufacturer was contacted and they advised him that the vehicle was no longer covered under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 114,940. The current mileage was approximately 115,000. Updated 11/12/12 the consumer stated the holding calipers not fractured, threads were badly rusted into steering knuckle requiring replacement of driver side steering knuckle. The failures are not duplicated on the right front brake assembly. The consumer has the defective parts. The vehicle has never been operated in off road condition or exposed to salt water. While pulling into the apt. Parking lot the brakes failed and the steering wheel locked, there was an alert on the control screen but i am not sure what it said.as a result the car drove over a fire hydrant and hit the trunk of a car parked next to the hydrant. Both front wheels were damaged and the drivers side wheel came completely off.there were no physical injuries and only one person (tom) was involved in the accident.the police were called and the officer stated that the brakes felt "mushy."no tickets were issued.still waiting for a adjuster to view the cars involved.the car was purchased new in aug.and was taken back to the service center twice within a month.first for an air bag problem, 2 for a brake warning light.they did not do a diagnostic fr the brakes they only changed a light bulb.the warning light came a went sporadically before this service.
Volkswagen touareg 2004 does not stop in inclement weather. All four tires were practically bald and the vehicle needed an alignment.the front tires were slightly more worn than the rear.also, the clock was inoperative and the brakes would lock up on snowy conditions. *sc
Screeching brakes.the brakes were screeching for the past three months and the vw dealership replaced the pads and disc.after three attempts, i was told that the screeching is normal.also, since i bought the suv in setptmber 2004,i have been having an alignment problem which resulted in excessive tire wear.the dealer did numerous alignments and i changed all four tires( 3 times), but the problem still exists.the vehicle only has about 28,000 miles.

Fuel injection recall that on service bulletin stated it could result in a fire if not fixed! tire pressure monitoring system failure, esp failure, computer software failure!

Since i purchased a 2004 vw touareg on 2/28/04 i have had various problems with it. The most severe is the front end allignment and brakes. I have had a total of 6 front end allignments since i purchased the vehicule. It is in the shop right now and they can not correct it. This is a an extreme hazard at higher speeds since the suv pulls hard to the right. I was told by the mechanic that worked on my vehicule that he set the allignment to factor specs and it still pulls to the right. I took it to tire kingdom twice and they did the same and did a high speed balance on the tires as well and it still pulls to the right.also volkwagon of america put outcircular vwa-04-12 stating that there is a factory problem with front end allignments on certin vin numbers on the touareg. Vw will not acknowledge that there is a problem. I also have trouble with the breaks making loud noise and wearing out fast. Now they are telling me that the rotors are bad. I have complained about the brakes and nothing was done. Also there is condensation on the windshield from the air conditioning and they did have a recall on this, but the trouble still exsists.
Unexpected and sudden electrical malfunction of the steering column lock causing the vehicle to shut down, unable to start or move shifter lever out of gear.

The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, the vehicle hesitated and would not increase in speed while the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact also stated that while making a turn, there was a loud clicking noise coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 123,000.
Alignment on 2004 vw touareg is horrible. Taken back at least 3 times and it has never been fixed. Tires are now shot because of the alignment problems. Computer keeps beeping that there is a flat tire when the air pressure is fine when checked. Taken in at least 3 times and it still has not been fixed. Speakers rattle as if they are blown....also....never been fixed.
Takata i was driving perfectly fine and i came upon a turning to make the left and out of no where my car start sliding out of control i tried to control it because there was a ditch close by where i was it was sliding to the right tried to spin the steering to the left but the car was just doing what it felt like i ended up hitting in the rail where theditch was and pushing the car back into the middle of the road bear in mind i had my children in my car no one can give me an explanation to my my car just spiral out of control and i know i was not driving fast i am not a fast driver one thing is to be done and check out with this vehicle before it claim the life of anyone that god my love and my kids was spared the brakes speed control and body of the car was affected as well but it is not allowing me to select all of the options above

Wouldn't start so had it towed to northland volkswagen. There they tested and said i needed steering column replaced and wiring done . Not sure but have never had problems with column not performing correctly but i don't have a clue about wiring inside one. The repairs are 2538.08 and 1567.77 is for the column.
I have recently purchased a 2004 volkswagen tuareg without driving the vehicle off the parking lot i took it straight to the service manager because the vehicle felt like it was pulling hard to the right.i was informed that it was necessary to put 800 plus miles on the vehicle before they would align the front end.after putting the required miles on the vehicle it was taken back to the dealership with the expectation of an alignment.i picked the car up that afternoon and i was told by the service manager that this car was properly aligned and that it was verified by two individuals who drove to car.this vehicle has a propensity to rapidly pulloff the road with almost any kind of crown.the steeper the crown the more radical it wants to pull.this is either a bogus service manager or the volkswagen touareg has serious problems that prevent it from tracking down the road in a straight line.i have had bmws, porsches, gmc yukons and pickup trucks that stay on the road100 percent better than this vehicle. I would greatly appreciate some feedback from other owners who may be experiencing the same problem.it will only be a matter of time before this vehicle veers off a road and takes out a telephone pole.this is either an alignment problem or a designed flaw.sincerely, henry moseley
While traveling withsun roof open vibration inside of vehicle hurt consumer'sears.
Twice in 18 months the entire front grill of our 2004 volkswagen touraeg has flown off the car, crashed into the windshield, and then bounced off the top of the car into oncoming traffic.in both cases the motorist, and in one case motorcyclist had to swerve to avoid being hit.the first time it happened was in summer 2004.we had it repaired and vw assured us it was a freak incident, but it occurred again last saturday.both times it occurred when driving at highway speed, but certainly not excessively.it happened once when i was driving, and once to my husband.there was no warning at all.the grill did not appear to be loose or making any rattling noises.we feel very lucky that serious injury was avoided, but are concerned that this is a recurring defect that will sooner or later lead to injury or death to the people driving behind us in particular.
All of the exterior door handles are extremely loose and one of them i have to make sure that the handle goes in all the way because my kids sit in the back seat and i'm afraid that the door might swing open one day and an accident may occur. Also the door handles sometimes don't open on the first pull whether its from the inside or outside.
The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg. The contact stated that whenever it rained, she would find standing water inside the vehicle.on one occasion while attempting to start the ignition, sparks emitted from the ignition. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the sunroof drains were the cause of the failure. In addition, the abs controller had become rusted and caused the vehicle to engage in four by four mode permanently. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 90,000.
Volkswagen touareg 2004 does not stop in inclement weather. All four tires were practically bald and the vehicle needed an alignment.the front tires were slightly more worn than the rear.also, the clock was inoperative and the brakes would lock up on snowy conditions. *sc
Driving 2004 touareg equipped with air suspension. Speed 55 starting right hand sweeping turn the right side air suspension blew out dropping the front end to bump stops causing rear of truck to bounce and go sideways causing loss of control of vehicle. Apparently there is a tsb to change the material of the connector that blew out, however dealership is not willing to perform it unless i pay for anything they may break in the process of the repair. Corrosion is causing failures in the northeast.

The vehicle was purchased in august 2003 , and the failure has occurred since it was purchased.there have been 8 alignments performed on the vehicle.the vehicle has been serviced 25 times, and the mechanicwasunable to diagnose the failure.due to the warranty the dealer and volkswagen authorized the tires to be replaced on two occasions for uneven wear at 9,000 miles. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle should not be released from the dealer if itwasn'trepaired.therefore, theywere unable to assist him with further diagnosis.the contactwas requesting that volkwagen purchase the vehicle from him due to the ongoing failure.the contact lived in a climate where the temperatureswer consistently below zero. Dt: contact state the tires wore out after only 14,000 miles.the service dealer realigned the vehicle and replaced the tires.the consumer stated there were no indications that vehicle was out of alignment until the tires wore out andmade noise, and at low speeds the steering wheel vibrated. The tires were rotated at the service dealer before the problem with the alignment became evident.also, theyreplaced a defective stepper motor. Consumer asked the dealer if this would be a recurring problem, and they could not give him a straight answer. It was the recommendation of the manufacturer, and was fixed according tovolkswagen standards.

My 2004 vw touareg has been diagnosed with premature failure of the front suspension bushings.the vehicle has never been used off-road.the vehicle has 55k miles on it.i believe that this is an inherent defect in the polymer used for the bushings and it should be replaced at vw's expense.vw has not been responsive to my request.i have had many cars in my life, and this type of failure has never occurred, even with up to 105k miles.the repair is estimated to cost $1700.this type of failure could lead to a serious accident by the failure of the suspension system and loss of vehicle control.

Tire monitoring system failed. This is a recurring problem, hopefully will soon be classified as a recall. I have taken the vehicle to vw service 5 times in the last 3 months to get this issue fixed, but either the service bulletins are inadequate or the service dept at abq dealership incompetent. Regardless they have not been able to solve the problem. The error (monitoring failure) light comes on sporadically informing me that there is a problem with at least one of the tires. I take the car to the dealership to get fixed, they reset the motoring system and a few days later the light comes on again. As of today they have completed the last step in the service tech bulletin. Problem is not solved.

The tire pressure monitoring system will periodically display various warning messages indicating a flat tire.tire pressure has always been normal (unchanged from prior tare), and visual inspection of the tire including soap test has always been normal.dealer has been unable to fix the problem, citing inability to replicate it.
The computer program controlling the tire pressure monitoring system is flawed. The computer will indicate (on dash display) that a tire is flat when the actual pressure is about 4 pounds either high or low. It will not show the actual tire involved or condition. It also causes an audio alarm to be sounded continually until the car is pulled over, stopped and the system disabled from the on dash controls. This is not always possible when on a freeway. The alarm is totally and completely in error.

We have a 2004 volkswagen touareg which has had a continuing problem since june 2009.the tire pressure monitoring system continually comes on with loud and sometimes intermittent and sometimes continuing beeping warning of flat tires, or the system is "learning".each wheel has a battery operated unit (wheel sensor) which will not be replaced under warranty until the battery is completely dead.there is a $75- charge each time to inform you that the battery is not yet dead.in the meantimeyou drive along with the warning signal going off.
For months i listened to "defective tire" warnings and "check tire pressure" warnings - all to no avail - everything was fine.finally, a light came on - "tire pressure monitor system fault".i took it in the vacaville vw, and they determined it was the tpms module (not the sensor).i have an extended warranty and was first told that the module was a covered component, while the sensor was not.i left it there for the appropriate repairs on a thursday (11-6-08).on friday, i was informed that the repairs had been made, but when test driving the vehicle, the "check engine" light came on.after checking...they find the coil is bad.vacaville vw replaces the coil and it is ready for pickup on tuesday, 11-11-08.i pick the vehicle up on wednesday and two days later, the tire pressure monitor system fault light comes on again.it is now at vacaville vw and i am waiting to find out what is wrong now.
Dt:the contact stated there was a problem with the tire pressure monitoring system.it gave incorrect readings.the warning indicator light stayed on.

The contact owns a 2004 volkswagen touareg.while driving approximately 55 mph on normal road conditions, the flat tire caution warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel.the vehicle continued to travel three to four miles when the emergency flat tire warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel.the driver pulled over to the side of the road, but did not notice any flat tires.the warning indicators remained illuminated until the engine was turned off.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing and they stated that the failure was related to a faulty manufacturer design.there was no repair available.the technician was unable to disengage the tire pressure module to avoid the false warnings displayed on the instrument panel.the failure mileage was 38,200 and current mileage was 40,083.updated 3/19/09 updated 03/23/09.
The vehicle comes equipped with a tire pressure sensor. This sensor failed and registered that the tire pressure was low in one or more tires when the tire pressure is fine. The dealership has replaced the sensor and rotated the tires but the failure still occurs.also the entire body of the vehicle shok at about 40 mph. Please provide additional information.
2004 volkswagen touareg loss power own 3 occasions at 780 miles.
Transmission jumps, lunges, has done this since 2009. The dealer states it needs replacing. Should be replaced by volkswagen.
Some weeks ago, the tv news reported a recall for my vehicle. I have had no other notification. I have lived here for 51 years and haven't changed my phone number.what is most disturbing is that your website knows nothing about this!!!besides cashing your paycheck, what else do you do to justify breathing???
The touareg made some rattling noise while i was driving at 35 mph. As soon i stopped and made it my destination and turned off the car the car wouldn't start up. I took it to the dealership and the dealership couldn't figure out why the car wouldn't start. Finally, after a well over a week, they determined that i needed to replace all six fuel injectors. The fuel injectors got replaced now the car turns on but as soon as you step on the gas the car dies.
I would like to know if my car is part of the recall cars
Dt: the vehicle hesitates on acceleration, and this happens intermittently.whilesteppingon the gas pedal and the vehicle hesitates. The consumertookthe vehicle to dealer, and they said this was normal, but they did say volkswagen programmed a delay in the computer chip. There is no forewarning, no lights come on, and there is no noise. This first happened onmarch 1, 2005.
Vehicle has an inconsistent lack of throttle response. When pressing acclerator you may get a response, a delayed response or nothing. Pulling from stop sign with a safe distanceof oncomoing traffic vehicle hesitated almost causing collision. Have been almost rear ended when vehicle did not respond to throttleat stop light.has been to dealer 3 times with no resolution.
My volkswagen touareg has a "hesitation" when accelerating affectionately known in vw circles as "death lag".many times when attempting to accellerate the vehicle will just sit there for 3-10 seconds even if the accellerator pedal is depressed all the way.this has nearly caused numerous accidents with some avoided only by oncoming traffic swerving and skidding to a stop while my vehicle sits still in traffic.
Difficult to control acceleration surge when starting off from at stop position. Acceleration is not linear. Remote key fob works intermittently. Programmable convenience programs lose programming. Tire monitor often displays erroneous warnings.
When the vehicle has slowed to a near stop and the accelerator is depressed, it initially hesitates, then surges forward.this prevents the driver from accelerating smoothly and could be a safety concern.i think the engine ecu may need a software update.
2004 volkswagen touareg that hesitates upon acceleration from a cold start approximately 20% of the time.this hesitation presents a hazard to both passengers in the touareg and passengers in vehicles of oncoming traffic.vehicle begins to accelerate then hesitates.it is impossible to determine when this might occur.also, there was a recent incident where the touareg hesitated and the vehicle behind the touareg had to rapidly brake to avoid rearending the touareg.it has been returned to the dealership on 4 different occasions with this complaint however the dealership indicates they cannot duplicate the complaint.volkswagen of america states no problem found.the following questions on this form are not applicable as numerous incidents have occurred on numerous dates and we are not able to indicate the exact number of incidents.the answers given are only to allow us to proceed with this questionaire.
The vehicle occasionally hesitated badly on acceleration from a stop.*ph(consumer letter add to received on 04/26/2004).*mrconsumer still experienced intermittent hesitation on acceleration especially when coming from a stop.*la
While attempting to accelerate from a stop the vehicle would not accelerate then stall. Consumer stated there was no power. Consumer tookvehicle to the dealer, and problem recurred. The dealer flashed the transmission but the problem recurred.
Dt: the consumer stated that2004, volkswagen touregexperienced loss of acceleration when pulling out. When the car is started in the mornings it is fine, but after the carsits for a couple of hours it starts having a delay in the acceleration when pulling out. This has been happening for a couple of months. The car has been to the dealership three or four times, and they could not fix the problem. The dealer said they were waiting on volkswagen to come up with a solution. The consumercalled volkswagen, and they said that the consumer should keep working within the terms of the warranty until the problem was solved. The problem at this point seemed to be intermittent. At this point no one knows what is wrong with the car.
While approaching an intersection, the vehicle suddenly accelerated.the consumers foot was on the brakes but the vehicle continued to accelerate.the consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it to the dealer for inspection, however, the mechanic could notduplicate the problem.*sc
Vw tourage- several times when starting from a stop the engine loses power as the vehicle begins to accelerate. This has placed me in situation where on coming traffic narrowly stopped before colliding with me. I have had the vehicle in the shop and will be taking it again next monday;however, they have not found the problem. The dealer has suggested it has something to do with a safety devive that is some way connected to the braking system.
Vehicle hesitated to speed up while at low speeds, andexperienced sudden acceleration while at higher speeds. Taken to dealerfor testing, and results showed that the cause was undetermined.
Vehicle experienced sudden acceleration while attempting to maneuver into a parking space, crashing into a wooden structure.*tw
I have a 2004 vw touareg that either fails to accelerate or is very erratic in accelerating from a stop.the dealer says it is a soft ware proplem but has no fix. This car is very dangerous to drive.
Consumer applied the accelerator pedal andvehicle failed to accelerate.vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection numerous times, and mechanic determined that it was a safety feature.
I was turning left at a fairly busy intersection & had waited for 2 cars to go that were in front of me.when my turn came & a gap appeared in incoming traffic, i removed my left foot from the brake, depressed the accelerator with my right foot & turned.however, the car did not accelerate.it moved into the lane of oncoming traffic, but just idled & i could not get the car to move for 2 - 3 seconds.i pushed the throttle all the way to the floor with no effect.a serious accident did not occur only because the oncoming traffic slammed on their brakes in time.after what seemed like forever, the car began to move & i was able to get out of the way.the same thing has happened 19 times since & the car has been returned to the dealer 4 times to fix this problem.each time they 'could not duplicate' the problem.niether could i until 3 days ago when i was told by a vw rep that this behavior is designed in as a 'safety feature'.he said it occurs when a driver depresses the throttle slightly, then (using left foot) the brake slightly, then the throttle some more, then the car will not accelerate for 2-3 seconds.what that contributes to safety is beyond me.it's a serious defect that will cost someone their life & must be changed as soon as possible.
The computer program controlling the accelerator applications to the engine is flawed.he existing program anticipates the drivers intentions in slowing to a stop in that it cannot accept a sudden request for acceleration from the driver before completing the previous action. This causes an excessive "delay" in applying throttle in an emergency situation and when it finally does, it could result in death in certain conditions. The computer should be programmed to accept an emergency command of this type under the conditions described above. This has also been reported as a past condition in audi automobiles that has been transferred into the taurag in 2004.
I was driving on 101 south from santa rosa towards san francisco and when in the novato area the rearview mirror came off dangling from the headliner by the wiring harnessright on my face.the dangling rearview mirror blocked my view of the road and this big distraction nearly caused an accident.this is clearly a safety issue, rearview mirrors should not just randomly fall off. I strongly believe that volkswagen ought to have a recall for this defective mirror and perform a repair at vw's expense.my aaa certified mechanic quoted me in excess of $700.00 to re-glue the rearview mirror to the windshield.
The consumer stated the defogger did not defrost the windshield efficiently.this caused poor visibility to the driver.the consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove it to the dealer for inspection twice. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem.
2004 vw touareg windshield wiper system.when wiper is set to wipe continuously, wiper stops when vehicle comes to a full stop, and will not begin to wipe until vehicle exceeds 5 mph.during heavy rains, it is unsafe to proceed too 5 mph when windshield wiper is not wiping.no visibility in heavy downpour conditions, must put vehicle in forward motion to wipe and see. Accident waiting to happen.manufacturer indicates this is a "feature" not defect!

This headlight washer(s) that pop up from front bumper came off during drive from ca to md.during the drive back temperature went into the freesing range.was not aware that when wash the windshield these other washers pop up to washer the headlight.anyways, they do and due to cold it got stuck in up position and eventually came off.dealer initially said covered under warranty and now says that since have a scratch on side bumper someone tempered with the washer.however more importantly they said that it has never happened to anyone before.i said maybe not yet or in different region since this was when driving in much colder weather.also, they also confirmed that it stucks in the down position when they put in a new one.
Driver applied the brakes andpedal went to the floor and the steering wheel failed to turn.driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a fire hydrant.left side (driver's side) wheel sheared off.driver was not injured.vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic stated that a cause could not be determined at this time.
From the date of purchase( in december of 2003), tpms has been "on" in yellow/orange color indicating that the tire pressure in all/various locations need adjustment. After inspection by myself, gas station attendants, tire shop companies, and vw dealerships, i finally gave up. In the beginning, the dealership ( where i purchased the car) would not officially admit to the problem, but after a couple of years, in a very informal way, they claimed the this technology was brand new and that it has its flaws! that i should not take those warnings too seriously. Unaware of any recalls, i gave up on this topic. Now, i just want to be on the record!
