I was in a pretty bad car accident 4/5/2019 with 6 kids in the car and none of the airbags deployed.. We were i motion when car infront of me tried to avoid the car in front of him. I saw him and i tried to avoid him so my left front hit his rear right side. None of the airbags deployed and now i have a horrible concussion in the hospital!
I was parked in my garage. When i started the car, the driver headrest exploded forward. If this had happened while driving it could have caused an accident from the sudden movement and loud noise startling me.
While driving along my vehicle will shut completely off. This happens especially on bumpy roads. Sometime the vehicle will shut off right after starting the engine. The only way i can duplicate the problem is to turn the key completely off and restart the vehicle. This problem is very similar to the recall with the 2010 volkswagens.
The drivers headrest airbag deployed while sitting in my garage. Engine had just been started. If this had happened while driving it could have startled driver to the point of loss of control.
I was in a parking lot van would not start.it would turn over an crank again and again when attempting to start, but the engine would not run.tow truck driver was able to start it by removing push start and using key fob, but had trouble getting it started again unloading at vw dealership.the vw dealer fist said it was the fuel pump, then said that the fuel pump relay in the tipm was bad and was burning out the fuel pump.the fuel pump relay is integrated into the tipm and can't be replaced without replacing tipm.the tipm not covered under warranty.currently waiting on vw dealer to find dodge/chrysler fuel relay bypass cable kit that fit my vin.in the meantime, the vw dealer has installed a temporary jumper to power the fuel pump while the vehicle is turned on.i feel fortunate that relay/fuel pump failure did not occur while driving, but i feel that vw should have know about this issue and been proactive to resolve it given that dodge has already had recalls on the tipm that is used in the routan.i'm also concerned about the safety of the temporary fix the vw dealer has implemented to keep the vehicle drive-able while search for the right recall kit from dodge.if that can't find the kit, then i will have to live with a potentially unsafe workaround or pay $1000+ to replace the tipm, which clearly had a manufacturing defect that could have potentially caused the vehicle to stop running while driving on the road.
My car began to lose lights, fuel, speaker capabilities, and starting ability.once was on the highway, and twice in my driveway. Aaa came and replaced the battery after jumping the original battery was not effective, which did nothing. It was towed to the volkswagen dealership. They were unable to find out what was wrong for 2 days. While waiting to see what the dealership came up with, i did my own research. It turns out that chrysler made the car, and it includes the chrysler body and parts. Chrysler recalled a part called the total power integration module, that controls the fuel system, all electric, starting capabilities, basically any power has to be routed through this part. It can cause cars to stall in high speed operation, among other things. If undiscovered, it can kill your battery, fuel pump, etc, and mechanics will charge you and replace those without knowing what is the true issue. I knew the tpim was the problem. The dealership called me back, and gave me the news that i knew was inevitable. Volkswagen has declined to recall the part in their vehicles, knowing full well that someone could be killed. When i complained, they did not care and told me to complain here. I am now planning to sell my car, because of the irresponsible and negligent attitude of volkswagen toward its customers. It's a shame because i really loved my car until this happened.
On several ocassion when the car is started all the lights on the dashboard come on and windshield wipers come on and nothing inside the car works. Had thave the car towed home because it keeps doing ti
Same issues as others as reported for tipm failures in vw routan / chrysler vehicles.the underlying common part is thethe part number for the totallyintegrated power module in the 2012 volkswagen routan is vw 7b0937049. The part number in the volkswagen routan translates to chrysler's part number 68105507 ac/ad.although chrysler has done a settlement in a class action lawsuit, the actual vehicles recalled are limited and about 1mm of the 7mm affected vehicles with faulty tipms.i am currently in a small claim's court case against volkswagen trying to get reimbursed for my repair costs.
I file a complaint a fews months ago about have troubles starting my van or battery drainage. Took it to the dealership in shreveport, la. The had to replace the module (tipm)fuel pump.this cost my family 1700! this is a serve safty problem for many families. This should be a recall for all vw and chrysler vehicles. The vw dealership said this wasnt the first routan they had to fix with same isssue. This should be an issue vw should cover. Complaint #11061088
My 2012 vw routan cuts off while in motion. It is very scary when you are driving down the highway and your car is no longer running. Also sometimes i have to turn the key multiple times before it cranks. Vw needs a fix for this!
Takata recall.having problems starting van on first try. Van will stall a few times before starting. Sometimes the battery is drain. Battery has been tested=good! this has been happening for 3 months. I after reading and researching i come to a conclusion that it is the tipm fuel relay!
Multiple times in thepastfew monthsthe car has stopped running while i am driving. Vehicle in motionon highway.in past have taken todealer with this complaint and they can find nothing wrong
My wife was driving with 2 children on the highway at 70 mph while the engine dies due to the fuel pump stopping to work due to a tipm fuel pump relay failure.chrysler and dodge did the right thing, step up vw.
While driving all dashboard light will come on gas needle goes down to empty, radio shuts off, windows will not roll up or down, windshield wipers will come non stop and will not shut off but the car continues to run and all of this is usually when i'm in the middle of traffic and i'mafraid that at some point the car will cut off all togetherand cause a collision, i've had it checked by three separateautomotive shops including vw and no one can tell e whats wrong or how to fix it.
Referenced to recall nhsta id no:11v-151 same issue happens on newer models, the car key ignition switch does not secure the key and that causes the car shut-down in tje middle of highway or road intermittently! ä±t does not give any dashboard warning and no codes! all the lights are being gone and even ac shuts off! when ä± push the key the lights come back on and the car can be turned on again. Similiar problems are poster on youtube: https://youtu.be/zesy-mnvpzs
We have noticed that the new car has being problem shifting gears and have been taking it to the shop several times just to be told that they do not see any problems. May 2013 we have received a recall mentioning harsh 1-3 up shifts and error in the torque management software, which will apply more pressure to the clutch.we took it in and were told they have not received the recall letter yet. At some point they agreed to update the software, however that made the problem worse. The car is not moving and when we give more gas it will accelerate like crazy now as added bonusreverse is not working properly.. Manufacture does not seem to take us seriously or accepting responsibilities.
My husband was at a light and pressed the gas to go, when he noticed that he entire vehicle had turned off. Steering, brakes, and all electrical. It took him a while to realize what was happening, but then he tried turning the van off and back on, and it started right back up. He thought it a freak occurrence.
The contact owns a 2012 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact restarted the vehicle and resumed normal driving. The contact initially contacted the manufacturer by phone and was referred to the dodge manufacturer for assistance. The contact reached out to the dodge manufacturer and she was referred to a local dodge dealer for assistance. The contact took the vehicle to tanner motors (620 w. Washington st, brainerd, mn 56401) where the vehicle was test driven and the contact was informed that the issue could possibly be linked to a defective wireless ignition node (win) module. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000. The vin was unavailable.
I've been experiencing major safety problems with my 2012 vw routan lately.on several occasions, while driving, my van has completely shut down.the dashboard, engine, power steering, everything completely turns off and i am unable to do anything until the vehicle comes to a complete stop and i start the engine again.the first time it shut down, i was driving in the city driving at 35 mph.out of no where, the engine shut down, simultaneously the dashboard turned off and i lost all control of my vehicle until it came to a complete stop and i was able to turn it back on.but the last time this happened, i was on the freeway, driving in the rain, at 60 miles/hr.the scariest part is not having control of the wheel and have the ability to safely pull over to the shoulder before restarting the engine again.the mechanic i contacted was not been able to figure out what the problem is.the check engine light does not turn on, i don't get any type of warning and no "codes" come up. I am terrified of driving my van anymore.i have two small children and do not feel safe driving it.i did some research online and have found a recall for the exact problem, but for older models (up to 2011).i have reached out to the local vw dealer and have been told they cannot honor the recall for the 2012 models.i don't understand, why the dealer refuses to fix the problem under the 2011 vw routan reacall if it is for the exact same safety defect.how many people have to get hurt or worse before the issue gets addressed?
The battery started dying randomly several months ago. I have called multiple dealerships and had diagnostics ran twice on the car. Initially i was told there is no draw on the battery. Then it was discovered that the tipm module needs to be replaced. I then started researching this problem with this vehicle only to find multiple forums full of people having the same exact issue or worse! as in, their car stalls on the highway randomly while driving!! someone could die! this module fails and in my case causes the fuel pumpto continue running even when the car is off which completely drains the battery overnight! chrysler (same manufacturer of this tipm) already lost a class action lawsuit and recalled this tipm but the volkswagens affected by this same issue were not included leaving those of us now experiencing the same problem in a scary position because we canā€™t afford to get this fixed as it is very expensive let alone get a new car! it baffles me how well known it is that this part is the same part thatā€™s been recalled but it doesnā€™t apply to this vehicle. On top of that, i called 3 chrysler dealerships to explain the problem and was told they donā€™t work on this vehicle! this is unacceptable! i donā€™t know how the nhtsa has not done something about this! it seems several class action lawsuits need to filed! hopefully before someone loses their life!
While driving on a city street roads may have had a little ice on them. Felt a sharp sensation to my outer ankle area (i believe at the time i was in the process of breaking to come to a stop. Shortly after felt the same sensation to my ankle sharp, burning, noticed the sensation felt electrical felt warm sensation near hip area... I believe the sensation was electrical currents that penetrated to my ankle. Upon this thought i immediately turned off my seat warmer, noticed the heel of my boot may have been sitting in a wet area on my floor mat from the melted snow on my boots and my boots had a metal clasp on it at the exact location the painful sharp electrical sensation felt on my ankle. Pain did not occur again once the seat warmer was turned off. Noticed dull tingling sensation in my middle finger shortly after the second episode along with what felt a little like indigestion.
Mileage 106,000 2012 routan but issues have been present since purchase at 96000. Vehicle stalled and lost all power approaching stop light. Vehicle has starting problems as well, will not react to start command. The aforementioned occurences are random and most likely related to tipm which is well known defect at chrysler and actually was recalled but not by vw. In addition issues with cam/crankshaft sensor and misfire fault codes.nhtsa has allowed volkswagon to sweep and hide the tipm issue under the rug, meanwhile chrysler and dodge addressed the defective part a part which is also in the routan as well. Stalling and losing power randomly is a potential "death" event. Can't believe they haven't recalled this.where is the regulation??
Engine turns over but will not start while parked. Often the car will initially start but then stall as the rps decrease to idle. After that, the car will not start until after 20-30 attempts if lucky. On february 10, 2016 (milage 44,574) i took the car to my local vw dealership service dept. (roseville , ca). They replaced the transmission range sensor. Problem continued intermittently but got progressively worse. On june 16, 2016 (milage 46,615) took back to same service dept. Who now says there is a bad totally integrated power module (tipm). This seems to be a recurring problem throughout the dodge, chrysler, and vw family of minivans (vw routan built by chrysler). While dodge and chrysler seem to have addressed this problem, vw refuses to do so. This module can potentially kill the motor while driving making it an important safety concern.
My 2012 volkswagen routan has only 87k miles and the car will crank but will not start, and or while driving the car's idle becomes rough and drops to the point of shutting off while driving. My wife drives this car with my daughter and if this car shuts off while driving it can cause accidents and bodily harm to others.
Engine shuts off when driving on a city street or when sitting still. When slowing down to turn
The engine will die as i'm driving down the highway.this causes me to lose power steering, all my digital guages on dash, etc.when i pull over stop and put it in neutral i can then turn the key and it will start right back up.this has happened at least 6 times while driving on the highway or in town but always while moving and for no apparent reason.possible touched the key chain with my knee but i can't say anything triggered it.first thing i notice is i'm slowing down and have to power steering.also, when starting the car the ignition regularly does not recognize that i've turned the key.requires that i push the key in with force up and to the right while rotating for the key to activate the ignition.sometime the engine will begin to start but stop when i let go of the key.my dealer said it could be the battery or the remote car starter.i've replaced both and still have the same problem.now they are quoting me about $700 to replace the key fobs and ignition.i was told by a mechanic this is the exact type of problem that all the town & countries & routans have had and there was a recall.it's a plastic key that wears out and stops working properly.checking on-line vw routan, dodge caravan & chysler town & country all had a recall on their ignitions, but it was limited to 2009 & 2010.i have the same issue described in the recall "inadvertent ignition key displacement from the run position, which would shut off the engine and depower safety systems, such as airbags, power steering and braking"
Stalls while driving intermittently; unable to start intermittently; diagnosed by vw dealer as faulty tipm; required replacement with a new tipm part with an updated design.
While driving, the car will suddenly stall all lights will come on. Sometime it will start back up when pushing start button and other times it will take a few minutes. This usually happens when going under 10 mph. It is also sometimes difficult to start after all the lights will come on and then off. We have replaced the battery and starter and that hasn't fixed the issue.
Vehicle has experienced stalling, engine shutdown, and difficulty starting multiple times.engine has now stalled more frequently at both low speeds and while driving on highway.each time, rpm's have gone to zero and it's completely lost power to steering.i've had try and coast/navigate safely to side of road, berm, etc., stop, and restart the van.at times the dash lights will flash, other times there is no indication that a failure had occurred, just no power/rpms.no check engine light remains, no codes displayed, nothing. The local volkswagen dealer will not even address the issue as they deem it a "chrysler problem".we now take it to an independent mechanic and replaced the crankshaft & camshaft position sensors, key fobs, battery, and have done all preventative maintenance.the problem still remains.there are similar complaints (vw, chrysler, & dodge) for this exact engine & symptoms that may be related to the tipm, the main control module.this is a very serious safety issue as it random and causes a complete shutdown of vehicle while in motion and loss of operator control.
For past 2 years i noticed my the van would not immediately start. Figured it was a fluke. In past year, my van has been towed to dealership for not starting after 10-15 tries. Of course, as soon as it arrives the get it to start. Thankful under warranty. Nov 2017 wiring harness and starter replaced. Dec 2017 failed to start again. Back to dealer and working fine for them. Thankful under warranty., but come on vm!! this is nuts. Why won't they recall and re place the tipem like chrystal did. I have been stranded too many times and had to 3 car seats each time.
The vehicle often has difficulty starting and will occasionally shut off while driving. The problem seems similar to the defect described in safety recall 28h1 which only covers year models 2009-2010. I don't remember exactly when the issue started, but it was within the last year, and the problem has become much worse to the point failure while operating occurs much more regularly. Fortunately, i've been able to restart and continue driving so far, but it will shut off when i'm idling, accelerating, or at driving speed.
My family and i were traveling on our vacation to montreal last thursday (7/30). During our trip we stopped by lake george for a quick lunch where our car broke down. Now at first, i was hoping we could still get it fixed quickly and drive it up for our week long trip in canada but instead we had to rent a vehicle from the local enterprise and use that vehicle for the entire trip. It turned out car wasn't getting to park properly. Vw told us it's not covered under warranty. Also i was told alternator needed to be replaced. Too many issues and $1700+ later still not fixed.

The contact owns a 2012 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the vehicle cranked, but failed to start and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to volkswagen lee's summit (2225 ne independence ave, lee's summit, mo 64064, (816) 600-4224) where it was diagnosed that the totally integrated power module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 109,000.
The contact owns a 2012 volkswagen routan. The contact stated while driving approximately 75 mph the entire instrument panel failed to operate. The engine was turned off and then restarted. The vehicle resumed normally. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 23,300. The vin was unavailable.
10,000 miles, full warranty, bought new less than a year ago. While driving approximately 55 miles per hour on the highway with my mother and two children in the vehicle, the van lost all power mid-drive. Brakes, steering, everything stopped functioning. Thankfully it was late and my husband was able to coast to a stop. It was one of the scariest experiences of my life. This had happened once before, but not at that speed, and we'd assumed it an anomaly. We were heading out of town, but concerned for safety we turned around. My husband took it to the dealer the next day, where they could not locate the problem. We brought it back a few days later so they could keep it, but after driving it 400 miles, and not able to recreate the problem, they said there was nothing try could do. We contacted vw, who got a regional claims person to go to the dealership, supposedly consulted their engineers, and decided there was nothing they could do. But not before the cs case person lied to us and told us the van had been fixed. When we arrived at the dealership and realized it hadn't been, we made it clear that they would ave to fix the van, or replace with something comparable. We also found at least 12 other complaints on line of other owners in earlier models experiencing the same thing. This is a safety hazard or my family and anyone else on the road with us, and inconsistent with the safety standards promoted that encouraged us to purchase the vehicle in the first place.
Van randomly goes to 3rd on the highway. Going to neutral and back to drive corrects the issue. Van will not start/crank randomly. Van turns off on the highway randomly. Random "enter security code" on the nav system. 129k miles on it. Chrysler recalled caravan's and the town and country for these same issues. The tipm needs to be replaced. Filing a complaint with corporate vw to have them correct this massive safety issue as chrysler has done. Http://www.chryslerproblems.com/tipm/

The contact owns a 2012 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was a ticking sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to street volkswagen located at 8707 pilgrim dr, amarillo, tx 79119, who diagnosed that the engine fly-wheel was damaged and needed to be replaced. After replacing the fly-wheel, the failure continued. The dealer later replaced the engine head and fly-wheel however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was later taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that the engine was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was no yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000.
The car will just shut down while driving. No warning, no lights, no check engine, no power steering or power breaks (i have to put all i got into trying to steer the car to just pull over!). I have to bring the car to a complete stop and restart it. It has happened about 3 times. Took it to 3 garages and they could not figure out the problem because the car never gave any computer codes when it would shut down. There are similar complaints and i'm wonder how vw knows of this issue and has failed to inform the owners of these vehicles. If my van shuts off on the freeway, this could be very serious!

The contact owns a 2012 volkswagen routan. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the steering wheel seized without warning. The contact had to depress the brake pedal and turn the starter to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was unable to be diagnosed. As i am accelerating from 25-35 mph the vehicle almost feels like it doesn't want to shift into next gear. The vehicle sort of jiggles/jolts while trying to gear up. Once reaching 35/40 mph then vehicle runs normal. If i push down on gas peddle to make car go through that gear, the engine revs up and the vehicle kind of jolts a "get up and go" feeling and the rpms go above 4k, which then vehicle gets up in speed and moves. Once at 35/40 mph, then the vehicle runs smoothly.
The contact owns a 2012 volkswagen routan. While driving approximately 75 mph, the vehicle shook violently and stalled. The contact did not recall if a warning indicator was illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. An independent mechanic diagnosed that a rod went through the engine and created a hole. As a result, the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. No assistance was offered. The approximate failure mileage was 76,000.
When getting off highway while at light my car sputtered and stalled. The car would not restart and i had to have towed. The right side cylinder head had to be replaced at a cost of over $4000. Vw is replacing the left side under warranty for 10 years but not the right side for some reason so i have to pay. There have been many problems with this engine and i have only 89000 miles. The engine in the vw is a chrysler 3.6 liter pentastar. While fixing that it was found that the oil filter housing unit was leaking and needed to be replaced.
My 2012 volkswagen routan has only 87k miles and the car will crank but will not start, and or while driving the car's idle becomes rough and drops to the point of shutting off while driving. My wife drives this car with my daughter and if this car shuts off while driving it can cause accidents and bodily harm to others.
Driving at low speed van raced forward then stopped almost hit another vehicle. Now won't run and check engine light on. I was in a parking lot of a target when happened
Drivers side low beam keeps blowing out, when taken to volkswagon dealership was toldrecommendation was for them to replace front wiring harness,i was told would have to leave vehicle with them for two days. Van is under warranty, would cost me a 100.00 deductable. Van only has 65 thousand miles on it.if it is an electrical problem has any other complaints been filed.this van was last joint venture betweendodge and volkswagon. They couldnt order wiring harness it had to be made as i was told they didnt make parts anymore for this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2012 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, the vehicle required a longer stopping distance than necessary when the brake pedal was depressed. In addition, the front fog light failed to operate when engaged. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear rotors were corroded and needed to be replaced. The failure for the front fog lights was unknown. The front fog light bulbs were replaced and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000. The vin was not available.
The contact owns a 2012 volkswagen routan. While driving 10-15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was an air bubble in the oil. The contact was informed that the fuel filler cap needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred twice. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000.
Takata recall.having problems starting van on first try. Van will stall a few times before starting. Sometimes the battery is drain. Battery has been tested=good! this has been happening for 3 months. I after reading and researching i come to a conclusion that it is the tipm fuel relay!
Have had the coils replaced and the spark plugs and other work done and the car still shakes on idling. Very frustrating and this is causing the check engine light to stay on? when is the recall happening, there are tons of issues to other routans!
My car will crank but not start. After several tries if you use the key fob you can get it to start. I have the car looked at by two technicians who advised that my vehicle was made by chrysler even though it's a volkswagen and that this is a known problem with chrysler dodge vans from 2011 and 2012 the problem they tell me is with the fuel pump relay that will need to be installed

I was parked in my garage. When i started the car, the driver headrest exploded forward. If this had happened while driving it could have caused an accident from the sudden movement and loud noise startling me.
Vehicle shudders violently on stopping from variety of speeds.this is felt in the brake peddle, steering column, steering wheel.vehicle shakes front to back and side to side on braking.vehicle still appears to brake adequately, though something is definitely wrong with the braking system, doesn't seem safe.vehicle is driven lightly in a variety of conditions, carrying passengers (kids).we currently have a case open with volkswagen and they and the dealer are both saying it is likely a wear item and not covered under warranty; this on a vehicle with less than 20k miles on it.also of note is the van is manufactured by chrysler and they extended brake warranty for 3/36 due to known and long standing issue with brakes.
My husband was at a light and pressed the gas to go, when he noticed that he entire vehicle had turned off. Steering, brakes, and all electrical. It took him a while to realize what was happening, but then he tried turning the van off and back on, and it started right back up. He thought it a freak occurrence.
Multiple times in thepastfew monthsthe car has stopped running while i am driving. Vehicle in motionon highway.in past have taken todealer with this complaint and they can find nothing wrong
Had to replace right rear wheel bearing at approximately 60,000 miles.had to replace left rear wheel bearing at 80,500 miles.both wheel bearings were making grinding noises.rack and pinion hydraulic line cracked at elbow and had to be replaced.rack and pinion problem occurred while driving close to home.lost all steering in driveway.

My 2012 vw routan cuts off while in motion. It is very scary when you are driving down the highway and your car is no longer running. Also sometimes i have to turn the key multiple times before it cranks. Vw needs a fix for this!

Referenced to recall nhsta id no:11v-151 same issue happens on newer models, the car key ignition switch does not secure the key and that causes the car shut-down in tje middle of highway or road intermittently! ä±t does not give any dashboard warning and no codes! all the lights are being gone and even ac shuts off! when ä± push the key the lights come back on and the car can be turned on again. Driving at low speed van raced forward then stopped almost hit another vehicle. Now won't run and check engine light on. I was in a parking lot of a target when happened

The problem started with the car not starting on various occasions. I just thought it was a fluke. Then it died on me multiple times while driving various speeds upward of 70 mph. Everything would turn off and then i would pull over and it would start right back up. Upon those things happening i decided to take it in. As i was heading home on the highway going about 75 mph the car accelerated without me touching the gas and then the transmission dropped and it died. Very scary. I took it in and they concluded that it was something to do with the transmission. $1000 later the dealership assured me the problem was fixed. After driving it for about three days the problems persisted. It wouldn't start right up and then it stalled on me while in reverse out of my driveway.
