The tipm is failing which is a common issue with the vehicle make/model. My particular vehicle was not covered under any recalls, however, i have the same tell tale tipm failure issues as all of the cars that were part of the recall. My lights intermittently work which causes a safety hazard. They will either not turn at all, will turn on and start flashing, or will appear to be working as normal until i'm driving and then they will flash off intermittently. This puts anyone in my car as well as oncoming traffic at risk when my lights malfunction at night. The airbag warning indicator light also flashes off and on as well making me think that it may be failing whenever the tipm is not functioning properly. The door locks and windows have also locked/unlocked and opened/closed at random (even when the vehicle is off and has been parked with the power off for hours). I spoke with the mechanic about all of these issues and he verified that it was likely a failing tipm and that it is a well-known issue with the routan.my vehicle is available for inspection any time. Volkswagen and chrysler know that this is a common issue and yet they have put their customers in danger by not recalling all of the affected vehicles. I am not sure what date to put as the date of incident as this has been ongoing since i have owned the vehicle. I put the current date (as it happened just today) and mileage, however, please understand that this has been an ongoing issue for years and volkswagen has failed to include my vehicle in any recalls even though this is a well-known issue.
The key slips out of the on position and the electronic system does not engage. I thought my vehicle was part of the recall issued by vw in 2015 (part 573 safety recall), but when i took it to the dealer to be diagnosed and repaired, i was informed that this recall is vin specific and my vin was not a part of the recall and therefore the repair would not be covered by vw. I called vw and they told me the same thing, even though it is the exact same problem that is listed in the recall and the part that needs to be replaced is the win module. I need help!
It turns on all the lights on the dashboard saying it needs auto assist service there is no problem with it the dealer cannot take care of it because they don't take care of volkswagen routan no more
My vehicle cuts off within 5 minutes after driving at speeds between 20 to 40mph (usually required in neighborhoods and school zones). Steering wheel locks up and vehicle power cuts completely off. No warning or lights indicating the shut off!
Once again my fiance and i are experiencing the same problems with the windshield wipers not turning off when your turn off the switch. Also, the turning signals are not working, the heated seats don't turn on and the cd player does not work. I called the dealership where i bought and told them it is happening again and my fiance even did a video of the problem as it was happening. The wear part of this is when we hit a bump on the road the windshield wipers stopped and the turning signal came on. That does not sit right with me. There has to be a short somewhere. We have taken it back the day after to the dealership where i bought it. I am not confident in this vehicle with our 3 kids.
Several times over the few months when i go to start my van i turn the key and all the lights come on, on the dash yet the vehicle does not start. There is no noise associated with this incident. It can take several tries to get the van to start.
October 30, 2010 - went to start the vehicle but nothing happened. I thought that perhaps i had not engaged the shift properly and then restarted. The dash lights came on but could not start the vehicle. It was not occurring significantly until 2014. Took to our dealer but they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle as no indicators were tripped and no trouble lights to identify problem.frequency of not starting has been more significant (twice a week now). Took back to dealer when the engine light displayed and the service manager stated there was a recall but not for our vehicle. In addition, when using the remote start, the engine would not turn over but would just click (same problem). Seems to be the exact same issue we are experiencing as the recall states. Dealership wants almost $1000.00 to replace ignition and gear shifter to repair the problem. And that is if this is the correct diagnosis according to vw. There should be an investigation into this issue and if found to be a common defect, a recall should be issued for all vehicles immediately. We do not know the consumer safety element involved and believe this issue should be given great priority to launch an investigation as most vans as this are used for child transportation. We drive our four children in this vehicle wherever we travel. Please investigate.
2010 volkswagon routan has stopped inmid traffic going 30-40 mph on a busy road. Lights and audiohave flickered, then turn off.car spontaneously starts and stops any given time in motion and standing still, and cannot be jumped to revive.have been in the car with my children and have had it stop in the middle of the road.we have had it less than a year, completely unsafe. Told the exact recall doesn't apply to my vin#.
I recently purchased a used 2010 vw routan sel.within the first week i had the following problems.about every other day the car would not start when turning the key.i would have to wait about 15 minutes before the car would start again.the key would get stuck and not pull out.the security system would activate or deactivate and beep without pressing any button on the key.i was also locked out for 15 minutes when i couldn't get the unlock button to work on the key.it would just keep locking itself.i took it to a vw dealership who informed me that it was a well-known tipm problem and that it need to be replaced for 1100 usd.however, replacement would not gaurantee any fixes and it could actually cause other mechanical problems to arise.they also told me that this was the reason why the routan was discontinued.
Electrical system: vehicle not part of existing recall. Have owned car since new.in 2014, vehicle lost all electrical power while driving, steering, braking etc.was able to pull to side of road, restart vehicle, and get to dealership.do not know exact mileage now at the time, probably around 40000.vw replaced the ignition and reprogrammed existing fobs.feb 2017, vehicle has same issue re-appearing.vw says not ignition and is tipm going bad, even though same issue.our vin does not show for either of the 2 current recalls, but have same issue and vw will not fix since no longer under warranty.vehicle losing all power and control while in motion is major safety hazard and vw does not seem to know where true issue lies and cannot explain why this 2010 routan is not recalled why others are, that have same issue.also, routan uses same parts as chrysler tipm recall, but why vw not recalling tipm.both ignition recall and tipm issue can be catastrophic while driving, but this routan does not have any recall noted.

I have volkswagen routan 2010 the car won't start i leave the car for 2 days and now i went to start the car the car don't want to start no crank no power i have to start the car with the jumper cables i have replaced the starter and i test the battery and i test the alternator which are all working fine i don't know what could be the problem i start the car again today and don't want to start now i'm going to change the battery and see what's happen. I am already tired of this car i recently bought it everything is fine with the car but won't start don't do me any good i don't know why i bought this kind of van many people was telling me don't buy volkswagen go with honda odyssey or toyota sienna with the volkswagen is my worst experience.never again.
Was driving on a freeway with a baby when the car will not move forward while running at 60mph.very dangerous especially with a baby.the car was also backing up if we do not step on the handbrake.the previous day brought the car to the dealer because i told them that the car will not move even if i step on the gas and the engine light is on. Also told them to check thoroughly because i am going on a roadtrip.they called and said the car does not have a problem.i found out that volkswagen has an issue with transmission.service center should have look into this being that it is common problem with volkswagen before releasing the car.also when i called their roadside assistance they said that the nearest dealer will not take our car because we need an appointment. ( for an emergency) what do we do,i even told them we have a baby with us and we are in a busy freeway.we had to call again and tell them the situation.then the dealer helped us. Called volkswagen customer service on 9/06 told a guy named[xxx]. About their warranty and said talk it out with the dealer, dealers are a private owned company.who do we then bring the car for repair for cars under warranty? when i called their customer service seems like transmission issue is not something important but not for somebody like me who drives with a baby it is very important.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The totally integrated power module (tipm) is defective causing the vehicle to stale while in-motion resulting in loss of power steering and braking and near misses.this has occurred while vehicle was in transit up to 45 miles per hour.the vehicle's dvd system stopped working.the vehicle has failed to start.also, while making turns, from a stopped position, the vehicle has staled resulting in near misses with oncoming traffic.while starting the vehicle, the interior lights would flash while failing to crank start.the staling while in motion occurs multiple times daily.the vehicle has been to the mechanic at least 10 times since purchasing it in 2015.the vehicle has always had this problem since purchasing.the most recent visit to the mechanic concluded (2/2018) the tipmto be defective and that the dodge/chrysler products with the same tipm part is already recalled yet the vw sister-product is not recalled.the mechanic recommend replacing the tipm because it is a safety issue and will continue to cause staling at high rates of speed, near misses, if the part is not replaced.the cost to replace was approx. $1,500.00.nhtsa needs to issue a safety recall for the tipm in 2010 vw routan.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. While driving at various speeds, the steering wheel seized without warning and the electrical systems failed. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v194000 (electrical system). The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
While car is in motion, the engine will turn off, causing the power steering not to work. Volkswagaon customer care shows that in june 2011 ignition switch was replaced. Vehicle had 15,000 miles. They offered no help at this time.
2010 vw routan van. Car has stalled while driving three times. Each time we have brought it in for repair where they replaced ignition, key, etc. A national recall was done for this problem and we took it in for the recall. Now it's done it again after the recall. It's in the shop now and we have filed a complaint with vw usa and dealer. We're waiting for their decision as we know from other people at the dealer in the service dept that this is a real problem and another person we know directly with the same make/model has the same problem. We will not take the car back no matter what. This is a life threatening defect. We are prepared to take legal lemon law action if vw doesn't do the right thing.
I am writing to address a safety issue i have with my vehicle, a 2010 volkswagen routan. My husband and i purchased this car last year and shortly after its purchase started to experience electrical issues with the vehicle. These issues included warning lights on the dash illuminating, power failures of the dash board gauges (specifically the speed gauge) and radio, and most alarmingly the car would completely stall and lose power. This issue of losing power to the entire car has happened both while the car is in motion and while it has been stopped at traffic lights, as well as at high and low speeds. We took the car to a local vw dealership hoping they might be able to diagnose the issue and fix it. After nearly 3 weeks of having different parts replaced, being told the issue was solved it was not. When driving the vehicle with only the key in the ignition it performs better, although still dies occasionally, but with anything on the keyring it will die almost instantly.it wasn't until after removing our car from this dealership that we learned about a recall on the vw routans that seemed very similar to the issues we were experiencing. Upon research we discovered that our vehicle was produced within the same month of the recalled vehicles but apparently not before the ending date of that recall. So other vw dealerships would be happy to replace the malfunctioning part but at an out of pocket cost for us, which we simply cannot afford, especially after the bill we are still working to pay for other unnecessary work. As a consumer it is very frustrating to have a vehicle that is clearly demonstrating the same issues as previously recalled vehicles but does not fall under that recall. We have reduced to only driving this vehicle as necessary and no longer use it to transport our two young children as we fear greatly for their safety.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. While driving 20 mph, the ignition key fell out of the ignition switch independently and the vehicle remained on. There were no warning signs illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure since it failed to turn off. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The vin was not available.
Urgent issue-safety my vehicle is experiencing issues with shutting down while in motion.i travel on the turnpike to work each day and it has happened a couple times now.i am absolutely afraid to drive the vehicle that i am not going to be able to get off the road.i contacted vw and gave them to vin to check on recalls and they state that my vehicle is not showing a recall for this issue.i did some research and seen that they have had 2 recalls (11v151000-march 2011 and 15v194000-april 2015) for this very issue.additionally on this site i can see the vehicle has have 130+ complaints with 70+ of them being for this issue with the vehicle shutting off while driving.i am absolutely astonished that vw has had 2 safety recalls for this issue and continue to receive complaints and yet they have just not recalled all vehicles.this is a serious safety concern for not only myself and my family but others out there on the road with me and my vw.please don't wait for people to be killed in accidents before you take action.
This is more of a question than a complaint.recall # 11v-151000 sudden engine shut offwas reported march 2011as of april 2012 volkswagen quarterly performance report says:over 80% affected have been fixed and only 166 were unreachable.so why do i see the same complaint on your website as late as aug 2013could this be the few that were not fixed?or is it possible the problem is affecting more cars than reported?i have a 2010 routan , i am seriously thinking about trading it in before the "sudden engine shut off" happens to my family.am i paranoid?or do i have a valid point.can someone tell me? volkswagen says i am paranoid.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Drivers side sliding door will not open. I've tried all kinds of ways to open it and it will not budge. Also, when driving, car shut off with no warning.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan.the contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who replaced the battery and alternator but the failure occurred. There was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number 11v151000 (electrical system ) but the vin was not included. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 53,000.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated while driving at various speeds the vehicle would shut off randomly. The contact stated traction control warning light was illuminated. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 11v151000 (electrical system) however, the vin was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 147,833.
Car has intermittent problems starting. Not an issue with the starter but possibly ignition or electrical system. Some light online research reveals this a a very common issue with this make/model. Car will start fine one time then next it won't . Sometimes it takes two tries, sometimes 15, sometimes it won't start for hours.the issue has occurred two days in a row now. Vw has an obligation to put out products that can safely start and get their customers either to where they need to be or away from an unsafe situation. It's not an issue of proper maintenance, it's an issue of poor and unsafe performance.
Several times over the last year when i go to start my van i turn the key and all the lights come on, on the dash yet the vehicle does not start.there is no noise associated with this incident.it can take several tries to get the van to start. Last fall i had the integrated power control module replaced after total failure.this caused the van to loose all power.it was a silver paperweight.before then and since then, there have been intermittent electrical issues mostly centering around the ignition.i have a concern that one day it will not start and i will be stranded with my children.
This will be the third time that my fiance and i are experiencing this problem. I have taken my van back to the dealership the first week of january 2015, it hasn't been 2 weeks and the problem has come back. The van is going back to the dealership to get fixed. This morning the windshield wipers turned on and won't turn off or stop when we turn the switch to turn off, the turning signal blinkers, and the heated seats won't turn on at all. We called the dealership and they said the manufacture fixed it but they don't understand why it's happening. To cover ourselves we have a video of the problem as it happened this morning. We depend on this van when we to transport my 3 kids i don't want to keep thinking something will happened on the road while in use or cause or be in an accident especially that the turning signals won't turn on. Please investigate.
While driving on highway at 60 mph. Car (2010 volkswagen routon) suddenly stopped.tried to start it, i worked and then suddenly stopped again. The car stopped suddenly turned off while driving at 60, i could have been killed. Had to wait 1 1/2 hours to be towed.turns out problem is in ignition, the part that the key goes into.the part is on back order, have already had to wait over a week.and they are still unsure as to when the part will be in.the problem is a recall item and volkswagen didn't inform me and when i called they still didn't know about the recall. I found out is was recall by goggling it.they don't have in their system that its a recalled item.had i been told about recall our lives would not have been in danger. I would love to get out of the lease and really don't want to drive a car from a company that doesn't inform customers of recalls.called volkswagen, they are looking into it.
My car died while driving it at 50 miles an hour with my two kids in it! it has since died multiple times (i don't allow my children in it anymore, but it has died with me alone in it to and from the mechanics) and refused to start multiple times. We have had to have the battery replaced twice. When i had it inspected and diagnosed by my mechanic (who specializes in vws and audi's) he told me it was a recalled part. When i brought it to the vw dealership they told me i needed to contact vw coporate to get a claim number. When i called corporate they told me my vehicle didn't quality for the recall (even though it was my car fits the model, timeframe, and diagnosis of the recall) and they refuse to honor it. This is dangerous and is going to get someone killed!
This complaint involves a well-maintained minivan with 65,000 miles and an engine that quits unexpectedly while in motion, disabling the power steering and brakes.as described in the defect notice (part 573 filing), published 3/1/2011 and amended 5/10/2011, citing recall code 28g/u8, this minivan falls within the applicable vin range and build dates however, volkswagen refuses to cover the repair under the recall.the problems with the vehicle began approximately six months ago when the engine quit numerous times, mostly when stationary, right after starting, but twice when in motion in freeway traffic.in all cases, the key was untouched and remained in the on position and the dash lights remained on.likewise, in all cases, after jiggling the key, the vehicle restarted and ran normally.about four months ago, a new problem surfaced whereby the engine would not start until we wiggled the key for between two and twenty minutes.most recently, at the end of a trip, the vehicle will not shut off.the engine continues to run, even with the key removed. This problem prompted us to deliver the car to our local vw dealer on 12/26/2018 and their diagnostic notes include 'found internal separation of win module.'their estimate is for replacement of the recalled item, the win module.it seems clear that the problem with this vehicle, and the part needed, both mirror exactly that which is detailed in the part 573 notice and as such, should be included in the covered repairs.moreover, it is evident that the manufacturer did not accurately assess the extent of the defective vehicle range.i encourage the nhtsa to intervene and force this manufacturer to properly ensure the safety of those driving in, or around, these vehicles.
The contacts owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. When the contact opened the driver's door, snow fell onto the power window switch. After the contact cleaned the snow off the switch, she later smelled a burning oder coming from the door. The contact attempted to use the window later in the day, but the window failed to go down. The contact checked the fuses and other components on the vehicle, but could not find the cause of the failure. The contact felt that water from the melted snow caused the failure. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and the manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 148,845.
The vehicle turned off in the drive gear. I lost steering, breaking and control of vehicle.
While vehicle is in motion, engine and all electrical will shut off. This has happened several times since 08/20/2010.
Car battery is in good shape because i recently replaced it with a new one. The problem is occasionally i try to start the vehicle and it will not start when the electronic throttle control light is blinking but if i use my car keys to lock and unlock the car, then the electronic throttle control light will go off and car will start. Last week it occurred two times andi took the car to volkswagen dealership but they told me, the diagnostic test is not showing any code and hence there is no problem with my car but i think there is a problem because i have experienced this problem five times in total. They requested i tow my car to them the next time it occurs to see if the code can be determined but i still not comfortable because i don't know what is coming next.
Volkswagen routan 2010 will turn off while in motion, on highway, street, or when stationary. Car is an automatic and will not adjust to the proper gear when driving. When in drive the car will act as if it is in neutral and roll backwards and will not kick into first gear. The electronic system never works properly and is constantly needing new batteries very few months. This car is unstable, unsafe, and unreliable! the volkswagen routan 2010 needs to be recalled immediately!
Driving down the interstate at night both headlights went out. Stranded next to the interstate with no headlights. Was told by the dealer that the car needs a new tipm module that would cost $930 to install.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the vehicle would fail to start up after multiple attempts. The contact also stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would stall and then independently restart with several warning lights illuminated. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 15v194000 (electrical system) however, the vin was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and confirmed that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The contact then spoke with j. Bertolet volkswagen (555 pa-61, orwigsburg, pa 17961) where she was informed that the vehicle received the free recall repair prior to her owning the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 202,000.
Started having a key fob issue around 80k miles.ignition would not turn off correctly causing battery to drain. Spoke with vw informed me no recall.issue escalated to the point that the key fob will randomly eject from the ignition while the car is running and in motion. Sometimes the car will lose power and have to be pulled over and restarted.obviously this is not safe while driving down the highway.
We where driving on the expressway(freeway) and the vehicle shut down on us from 65-0 in seconds, it tool about a minute and it came back up this happened about 3-4 times . About a month later it id the same this time when we first turned on the van. About march time frame the van would not start anymore after a long trip away from home the cables had been eroded and severely damaged to the point of no power going to the van. The dealer replaced the electric cables but about 1 1/2 months later the same erosion started to happen. We continued to inform vw about the issues and they always said the same bring it in when it happens. We finally had to get rid of the van we can not afford a fatality to try and prove a point.
Sometimes the electric throttle light comes on and prevents my car from starting.when i call for a tow truck to take it to the dealer to get it checked, it starts back up and the dealership can't find anything wrong.then on my way home, it does it again.sometimes i have to wait a few hours and sometimes a few days. It usually happens when the car is stationary. This has been going on for a few months now. The most recent was friday march 11, 2016.
Purchased the vehicle from the dealership in april 2011. We took a family vacation in june and noticed that the vehicle shut itself off a few times while in motion;causing the vehicle to lose power and all steering. On the same trip, when using the key fob, the entire electrical system would freeze and shut itself off. It eventually turns back on after 5 or so minutes. The wynn module was replaced. Before departing for the vacation, we had brake issues with them making a grinding noise and , sometimes no stopping power. Dealer replaced rotors. The passenger slider doors have issues. When closing, the door's safety mechanism would not back track the doors when it hit something coming or going into/out of the vehicle. The door shut on my son! the vehicle has been to the dealership more times than a new vehicle should.... Did i mention that we still have brake issues and electrical issues. It seems that all the dealership can say is that we cannot duplicate the situation. Each time that the vehicle goes to the dealer, they have it for a week or more! i have owned chrysler/dodge products before this and this is why i went to a vw. Needless to say, i didn't do my homework before purchasing. It seems that this vw is a "chrysler". As of today, 15 january, i am looking into the "lemon law" and possibly seeking legal action. Something needs to be done. Why do we have to wait until this vw vehicle causes serious damage to property, person and maybe even death before the nhtsa looks into the vw situations?
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the engine stalled. The vehicle restarted after the first attempt. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in the nhtsa campaign number: 15v194000 (electrical system). The approximate failure mileage was 42,000. The vin was unavailable.
My van shut down while driving for the fourth time.i was slowing down to a stop at a light and the engine lost power and i lost power steering and brakes.this has been happening much more frequently now than before (with 3 times in the last month).my van is not included in win module recall as the vin is a couple of digits off.this is very frustrating and scary.
Driver side front door automatic lock stopped working.lock does not go up via remote key fob or by internal lock switch.the only way to get the door to unlock is to enter the vehicle via a different door and use the manual internal handle to open the door.sometimes the lock does not go down either, leaving my car unlocked and vulnerable to theft. This is a safety hazard as i am not able to enter the driver side of the vehicle in a timely manner. Plus i have three small children and my hands are often full.
Every once in a while the car does not start, everything works including the windows, lights but engine does not start. I have had battery, alternator, and starter replaced, and it is still doing it. Hard for repair shop to diagnose because it doesn't do it when it's there. Most of the time it finally starts after about 8 to ten times of periodically turning the key. The vehicle is stationary when this happens.
Nhtsa campaign id number: 11v151000.my car shuts off while driving it.it goes into auxiliary you need to safely pull it to the side of the road and restart it.this has occurred multiple times.experience inadvertent ignition key displacement from the run to accessory position while driving causing the engine to shut off. An engine shutting off suddenly while driving could increase the risk of a crash.
Esp abs light illuminates while car is in motion and the car will not shift out of gear when stopped as if the break is not detected. Have to shut car off in the middle of traffic or drop of lines and turn back on several times to clear error and get shifter to shift to drive gear. Used snap on reader to check codes and does not recognize car as vw, instead it pulls up chrysler town and country. Triedto replace a break light module, the part was actually for a dodge neon. (i am only owner, bought van brand new). Symptom came back after two days. Code reader cannot find anything causing code trigger. Also key doesn't always work in ignition switch, must sometimes try to turn on 3 times. This has occurred since purchase. Amazed at all these safety issues and yet vw does nothing. $34,000 car and i am going to have to replace it already. Only 66,000 miles on the car. Transmission rebuilt by vw at 12,000 miles, rotors changed at 9,000 miles, motor parts rebuilt at 35,000 miles. Car burns 6 quarts of oil every 4,000 miles. Van doors will shut on kids even though they are supposed to stop when something is in the way. Worst car i have ever bought, and vw doesn't care to resolve all these issues customers have.
We bought out vw in 2013. We just found out on july 23 that there was a recall on the 2010 vw routan. Headlights are not coming on and the its an ignition switch problem but the dealership won't fix it.
This has happened sporadically and luckily not on the freeway.what happens is that i am just driving along and the engine just shuts down with no warning.all other systems are still functioning (ie radio), but anything related to the engine is shut down.car can be easily restarted in either the park or neutral position.this problem, when it happens, usually occurs within a few minutes of starting the car and driving.has not happened during a drive (meaning that i have been driving for a bit).this car was part of the recall back in 2011 and had the win module replaced.however, even though my car was part of the target group of 2010 routans that were manufactured during the recalled period, i am not part of the recall because the win module was replaced back in 2011.what is funny is that 2009 models who also had their win modules replaced during the earlier recall can get the necessary repairs under this new recall (15v194000).i have read complaints from others with similar issues as me and also had their car serviced under the prior recall, and we continue to have the same issue of the engine shutting down for no reason.why are 2010 models repaired under the earlier recall excluded, but not 2009 recall-repaired models not?
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. When the ignition key was turned to the on position, a ticking sound emitted from the vehicle and it failed to start. The contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ignition switch failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 11v151000 (electrical system) and 15v194000 (electrical system). The failure mileage was 90,000.
I dropped my van off on 1/21/15 and today is 1/28/15 and i called the dealership that i bought the vehicle from and he has been helpful but where they dropped the van to, to get it repaired at the volkswagen dealership where they can work on it say they cannot duplicate the malfunction. It's been over a week and my fiance had to be the one to contact the dealership for an update. Now i have a video that my fiance has recorded and i sent it to the dealership where i bought the van and he has looked at it. He also tried to send it via email to the volkswagen dealership where my van is being repaired and their email is incapable of receiving the file due to the fact that it is too big by their standards. Now my fiance has called the volkswagen dealership directly and said to the supervising person in charge of working on my van that we are more than willing to drive over there and show him the video, his reply was it is not necessary. Ok my thought on that is if you cannot duplicate the malfunction of the windshield wipers not turning off, the turning signals not working at all and the heated seat not working at all wouldn't you want to see the video. We have a record of it and i feel like he doesn't care. Please investigate this faulty vehicle. I am frustrated and now looking into the lemon law. This vehicle is a hazard and my kids safety while in this vehicle is my priority. I do not feel safe in this vehicle.
Our van has stopped without warning while driving it (in motion on a side street and has felt like it might stop on the highway) and it now won't start after fixing both the battery and starter. There are no warning lights on and for some reason the vin is not included in the recalls that have been active for other 2010 routans with the same problems.
Volkswagen routan (2010) stalls while driving. This has happened 3 times while i am driving.twice i am driving 55 miles an hour, another time driving about 35 mph. It does restart after i put the car in neutral, but could have been very dangerous as the steering wheel locks until i can restart it! dangerous.
My van shut down while driving again.i was slowing down to make a turn and the engine lost power and i lost power steering and brakes.
Key fob is stuck in the ignition and unable to remove it will not turn off stuck at accessories unable to turn off to remove key.saw recall nhtsa #14v396000 on ignition switches 2010 routan. Parked in driveway and unable to remove key or turn off acc position.
Ignition switch recall. While i am driving my car i have experienced a sudden jerking in the car feeling as if my vehicle is trying to stall out. My car will suddenly shut off completely while i am driving or it just won't start at all. I have to use jumper cables to get it started again and it takes several minutes before it actually starts up. I also experienced not being able to remove the key from the ignition when the car has stopped suddenly or when i try to start it up and it won't. Also when i push the button to close and open the back passenger doors, one of them will half close then open back up half way then stop and close have way again all on its own.
I received a letter informing me that my wife's vw routan had a recall on the win module / ignition. I set up an appointment to have the recall taken care of. The vehicle was there for two days and i was told they couldn't get the parts and to come pick it up. When i got home i researched the recall and found that the ignition can turn off while driving. Since then my keys have gone bad which needed to be replaced at a cost to me and i still don't have a date that parts will be received. The vw corporate office was unable to give me an estimated date in which they could get the new ignition to a dealer for the recall. The vw has now been sitting in the driveway waiting for repair for over 3 months. The corporate office just wants the dealership to diagnose what caused the keys to stop working and won't answer my questions about the recall. The vehicle is unsafe for my wife and children to travel in.
For the last couple of years, we have experienced our vehicle locking up, shutting off in mid-drive and sometimes losing breaks up to 4 times a day. We have had it looked at and diagnosed and the computers do not record these events. This is a known problem with these vehicles, however, my vin doesn't qualify to have any parts replaced. I recently contacted vw via telephone because my car jerked very hard to the left, luckily, nobody was coming the opposite direction. I was told to take it to the nearest dealership (an hour away) and that all costs would be mine. I have two small boys. It's currently at a dealership after being towed for two hours and i will have to come out of pocket to fix this very dangerous known malfunction.
Car goes offwhen is running.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and the 'bad key' message illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician replaced the key and reprogrammed the system. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 70,000.
Death & injury risk! volkswagen 2010 routan suddenly shuts off while driving on the highway at 65mph. This has happen more than a few times. Today is the last straw as i was driving on the highway with my kids. I barely survive the incident. I have not picked up the car from service since and i am trying to get vw to put in on another vehicle. I have read that other people have had these repairs done and they still are shutting off and squashing their kids.i have spoken to vw since i turn in my car for service and told them i don't want the vehicle any more. Vw keeps giving the runaround and have been stringing me along telling me that they will help me but to wait for their call tomorrow. I have been waiting for over 2 weeks since i took the van in to service. Every day i call back as they don't keep their promise of a call back. I however get the same individuals and they say they can't do anything until the car gets fixed. Well what if they car does not get fixed or takes months, am i supposed to wait? i struggle so much to get a car rental from them and when i did, they got me a compact vehicle. I can't transport my family in that! after complaining so much they finally approved a larger vehicle rental. I have received the call from service saying the vehicle is ready for pickup and it has been repaired. I called vw again now that the car service is completed and now the vw people are saying that they can't do anything and to pick up the vehicle. Why string me along if you know that was the only option they were going to give me. They said to give them one more day and to expect a call back again. I asked them what is the procedure or the plan but they said they could not tell me anything about their internal processes and to just wait for a call. I guess at this time i have no choice but to take legal action.i have been a loyal vw owner for 8yrs but if vw does not put me in a german vehicle i can expect legal action is the only alternative.
2010 vw routan vin:[xxx]we purchased the vehicle used in november of 2018. From november 2018 through early 2020, i experienced the car turning off while driving it about once every 4-6 months. When researching this issue we found that extra weight from other keys or keychains could be affecting it so we separated the car key from my house keys. This showed no improvement. From early 2020 through early 2021, the issue increased in frequency. Instead of once every 4-6 months it became once a month. And, unfortunately in the past 3 months, it has started occurring several times a week (sometimes multiple times a day). This has been a safety concern for our family and we are very nervous that this could cause a serious accident. Luckily the other vehicles around us when this occurs have been alert drivers that were able to give us the extra time to restart our vehicle. We realize that this wonā€™t always be the case and need to get it fixed. The issues we are experiencing as outlined above are in line with the issues listed in nhtsa campaign id: 11v151000 for other 2010 vw routans. However, for whatever reason, our vin number is not included in the recall. I would like to make a formal appeal with nhtsa that our vehicle be included in this recall and that it be repaired by vw as it is quite clear that what we are experiencing is from the issue in this nhtsa recall campaign. We are disappointed to be in a position to fight for something to get fixed that is quite clearly caused by a defaulted part, but remain hopeful that this will be resolved in a timely manner. Hi - i have a 2010 vw volkswagen that has an issue with headlights intermittently working, which is very hazardous and also the windshield wipers randomly turn on and the car was intermittently starting (now wonā€™t start at all since 7/18/2021) among other things. Car appears to not be starting due to fuel relay with tipm.the intermittent headlights is very dangerous but corrects itself in a few days so mechanics havenā€™t been able to figure it out. This car is related to the several chrysler models from 2010-2014(it states chrysler on various parts of my vw routan) that had a recall for issues with the tipm box, which appears to be the issue with my vehicle. As far as i can tell the same recall was not issued for the routan. Why? iā€™ve found many similar descriptions of routan owners that have had the same issues i have and these go back to the tipm. Will there be a recall? there is one of many links detailing people with the same issues/concerns. Https://www.change.org/p/matthias-mueller-volkswagen-of-america-volkswagen-of-america-recall-the-routan-due-to-a-major-safety-issue my vin is [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Car occasionally stalls but could be restarted.then simply would not start with 'badkey' error.after disconnecting/reconnecting the battery, the car started then would not turn off.you can turn the key to the off position and remove it, the vehicle will still run.it appears to have all of the symptoms of nhtsa campaign number: 15v194000 which resulted in a recall however vw says that my vin is not part of the recall.
Contacted orlando volkswagen south5474 s. The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. After restarting, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 15v194000 (electrical system). The dealer stated that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
The 2010 volkswagen routan will randomly shutoff. The vehicle has shutoff with and without auto-start and while parked and while in gear moving.there is no indication of a problem. During a failure, the keyfob is in the on position and the drivers electrical display goes blank with no indicators.to restart, the keyfob is rotated back to the off position and then to start. The vehicle will operate normally until the next failure which could be minutes, hours, days.
Intermittent engine failure. 2010 vw routan sel. 4.0 engine.car turns completely off while driving. No engine codes or check engine light come on.dealers cannot repair and be says this be is not on the recall for this specific problem. It has happened on the highway and recently just pulling down the street at low speed which caused an accident when all systems failed. The car will start right back up. We make sure there are no key chains on the fob but it makes no difference.only advise i get from dealers is trade it in as it is a known problem. I cannot in good faith trade it in to another family to get killed in when it shuts down.this van is a death trap for families and is unacceptable vw knows if the issuebut won't include it.
I was making a left turn in my 2010 volkswagen routan vin# [xxx] onto a busy street and car suddenly stalled out. I lost power steering and nearly jumped the curb and hit a woman with a baby stroller.i had my 3 kids with me in the car ages 5, 4, and 1.car started back up right away. This problem happened once before when i was driving straight at about 30mph on a residential street but i thought it was a freak incident since the car was brand new with barely 10,000 miles on it.this time it nearly cost people their lives.i took it to the dealer.they kept it for 6 days.meanwhile i had to use a much smaller loaner car which was not made for a family of five. They told me they couldn't duplicate the problem and that everything seems fine and that there is nothing they can do and if it happens again to make another appointment. Well it happened again. 3 more times in fact. I calledup the dealer again.he tried to deter me from going in saying "you can bring it in again but if we cant duplicate the problem then there is nothing they can do." also made it a pointto tell me that they only have small loaner cars available. I also called volkswagen and told them the story.they told me to bring it to dealer.this stalling issuewhich occurred again on 4/16/2013 is the last straw.i refuse to get into this deathtrap to take it to the dealer. Its a shame the car only has 18000 miles on it yet it is having these issues.i will never buy a volkswagen again. They can send a tow truck.it is very dangerous.i guess legal action is called for here. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I began to experience engine shut down and returned the vehicle to xxxx on 10/17/14.xxxx was unable to find or remedy the problem.they told me to take the vehicle to the dealer as the problems that i experienced were the reason for a recall.i contacted xxxx volkswagen.xxx volkswagen technicians drove my car intermittently over a four day period, their technicians were unable to verify my concern.a corporate technician reviewed my case and car.the corporate technician's remedy was to install a tie to assist with the retention of the transmission connector. A service advisor called to inform me that the issue was resolved and i could pick up my vehicle.i have experienced engine shut down on at least five occasions while driving the vehicle. The vehicle is the primary transportation for my two young daughters. I believe this vehicle is a hazard and another engine shut off could result in an accident that injuries my family and/or others. The previous owner experienced engine shut down as well.the previous owner replaced the battery, alternator, antilock braking unit, air conditioning unit and dash lights late summer 2014 before selling/trading the vehicle.all of these replacements occurred after the win module was replaced. The car continues to experience engine shut off.
The car intermittently dies, sometimes when hitting a bump. Traction control lights up, engine shuts down, and of course, power steering gone. This has been happening for 3-4 months.most recently, the lightning bolt safety light lit up, which relates to a electric throttle control light, or etc.that disappeared, then the check engine light lit up. That also disappeared. The ignition key inadvertently moves into the off or accessory position, the engine will turn off, which will then depower various key safety systems including, but not limited to, air bags, power steering, and power braking. Loss of functionality of these systems may increase the risk of crash and/or increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.electrical system ' ignition ' switch
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning at various speeds. The failure occurred on two occasions. The contact stated that nhtsa campaign number: 11v151000 (electrical system) exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer and the dealer stated the part was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 72,000. The vin was not available.
I just bought this van in july of this year. My fianc drives the van more than me and he told me that the windshield wipers will not shut off. I called the volkswagen at 1-800-822-8987 on monday and gave her my vin and she said it was not part of any recall but when i looked up the recall paperwork on this site, rcdnn-11v151-5396, it said the number of vehicles affected between 2v4rw-d-ar138555 - 2v4rw-d-ar348536 and rcdnn-11v151-1295 (amended), and it said the number of vehicles affected between 2v4rw-d-ar138555 - 2v4rw-d-ar360513, if i am looking at it correctly my vin falls between those numbers. This is the first we experience any issues and today my fianc told me that the odometer mileage reads gates instead of the numbers. We are dropping the van off tomorrow to get it looked at but i am bringing all the paper of the recall and the service bulletin. I just bought this van and we only use it less 6 miles every day, it's only used to transport my kids to and from our daycare, or if we have to take all 5 people anywhere other than that we don't use it, we always rent cars to get out of the area. Please investigate i have 3 children and i don't want to worry about experiencing a bad accident with my kids in the car, like some of the submitted complainants have experienced.
This is the third experience we have had of our car shutting off all of the sudden. The first time it happened i could hardly pull the car off the road because when it shut off i was on the highway and was very difficult to steer of the road. The second and third time this happened i was in town and also had a hard time pulling over. After each incident i had to turn key to off position put car in park and restart it. Then it seemed to be ok until the next time it happened. This is very scary and could cause an accident. I am scared to drive this car now. Van warning lights come on without notice; when driven instrument panel lights flicker and dim, audio system cuts off and on while driving. Was taken to dealer and had tipm was replaced and issue still persists.
The engine stalls as the vehicle is driven and it locks the steering wheel.this happens while car in motion, noticed a previous recall for this issues however it seems to be happening again and i don't think my vin was included in recall.
When car is running, either in park or drive, the engine cuts out. We must wait 30 sec to restart. It will then restart. This action happend both when the car is in park and drive. The action happened once in our driveway and once coming out of a carry out driveway.
On august 14th, 2014, i placed my key in the ignition of my 2010 volkswagen routan.the car/engine made an odd sound when the key was turned and all the lights went out.additionally, the dash lights started flashing and my key became permanently stuck in the ignition.i heard a very rapid "clicking" noise under the hood so i opened it and discovered the fuse box under the hood was the source.upon opening it, i heard a very fast clicking sound and felt each fuse and found the large fuse, 2nd from the left front was clicking very fast and loudly.i needed the vehicle so i used jumper cables and this eventually enabled my car's key to release.all the warning lights were lit up and i left the engine run for approximately 8 min., then turned off the car - to verify it would start again.it did, and now only the engine warning light that lights upon an incident is still lit.i called my closest vw dealer, who has services my car in the past, and they claimed no knowledge of the issue and stated the recall #66665 electrical system - ignition switch - is not applicable to my vehicle.sure it isn't!exact same issue that is noted in the recall, but somehow my vehicle is not one of the ones affected.i am pursuing thing with the service manager, but so far only push back.
Sent my 2010 volkswagen routan to a detail shop on april 23, 2014 at 930 a.m. In mcallen texas.while being worked on and thereafter completed, the technician had difficulty getting is started in which a hazard warning indicated a "bad key".technician was able to get it started and we drove our van west approximately 45 miles. Upon arrival at residence noted that ignition stayed stuck in accessory mode and drained my battery. Sent to dealership for diagnostics and repairs, and after six days of research and study, end result is a faulty ignition switch. I did some research and found campaign -recall id # 66665for my vehicle but only to the manufactured date of july 2010. My vehicle was manufactured august 2010. Looking at that it is only a matter of days of those 12000 vehicles that were called in to repair free of charge, that perhaps my vehicle could be one of hundreds more to come forward with the same complaint? i only thank god that while driving 65 to 70mph that ignition switch did not accidentally go into accessory mode from the on position and risk accident thus resulting in injury or death. My vin# [xxx] and mileage is at 56,000. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
First my car was having problems starting. I heard a clicking sound when trying to turn the car over. Took out the key and tried again and it started right up. Took battery to get tested, battery was fine. A few weeks later while driving in a parking lot the car turned off on me. It has turned off on several occasions at very low speeds. I was driving straight. This didn't trouble me until i was driving 45 mph and the vehicle cut off. Luckily no one was behind me as there are no shoulders on the road where i live and i was able to stop and restart the car. Have taken the car into the dealership and they are unable to replicate any of what i've described. They do believe it is the module and have indicated that the parts were recalled but not for my vin. We are concerned that the vehicle is a safety hazard and as i continue to put mileage on my vehicle that it will just get worst. Many people online complain about the same issues and their vins were also not covered.
I was driving home from work approx. 30-35 miles per hour and my van died. I lost power steering and brakes. Luckily i wasn't seriously injured. There was no warning. No service engine light. Within a span of less than 2 years ive already replaced the fuel pump, the battery, and the alternator is still new and under warranty. The ignition/power windows fuse constantly needs adjusting so i can roll my window up or down. All the dash lights come on randomly as well. Sometimes the windshield wipers would come on. Never had a vehicle die on me while driving due to manufacturers issues. After reading other consumer complaints about the same issues im very confident its the tipm. Some complain that this costs people $1 000s on a chance that you can get a couple more years out of it. The van wants to turn over and continues cranking when key fob is in ignition but doesn't turn over. I cannot get it to start at all.
Car flashes abs esp skid control monitor, shuts car off while driving. Goes back off, does it again.locks the car, won't start, then startsa bit later. Cooling system , heater hose issues, brake issues, cruise control shuts off randomly. Could kill someone. Internet search esp volkswagenddefect.comvolkswagen_routan_problems.htm all exactly what i have experienced since purchasing this vehicle a year ago. Afraid to drive it. Updated 04/05/2017
Vehicle has failed to start on multiple occasions.the vehicle has been to the dealership as well as other repair shops on several occasions.no one could diagnose the issue since it was occurring intermittently.we have had the battery and starter replaced in hopes of correcting the underlying issue.the car has also stalled once while slowing down.the various lights on the console flashed and the dvd player quit working after this episode.after online research we now believe it might be an issue with the tipm and will have this tested.
I believe the ignition switch is faulty but my vin does not come up under the ignition switch recalls (15v194000 or 11v151000). One time when accelerating up a bumpy hill going about 40 mph on a highway, the vehicle shut off and power steering was not available. I was able to maneuver to the side of the road and turn it off, put it in park, and turn it back on. Another time on a flat bumpy road, accelerating at about 35 mph, the vehicle shut off again with no power steering available. I again pulled over, put it in park, turned it off and then restarted it.
The engine stalls as the vehicle is driven and it locks the steering wheel.this happened about 8 times within the past 24 months.we discovered that 12,000 and more routan 2009 and 2010 have been recalled for the same problems with some fatalities reported due to this defect:ignition moduls and electronic moduls.vw and gm-chrysler are not supporting the vw. Dealer repair/replacement as my vw routan seems not having been tracked down during initial recalls.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and various warning lights illuminated. In addition, various electrical functions were lost. The vehicle was able to restart after multiple attempts. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not included in the nhtsa campaign number: 15v194000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000.
The engine is turning off. No power steering or brakes. Going between 20 to 40 miles per hour.
I purchased a 2010 vw routan in may 2010.i have had multiple issues with the vehicle since that time - electrical issues with the sliding doors, transmission not shifting correctly, the vehicle's strained ability to back up when stopped/parked on a decline.the only issue which has been satisfactorily addressed to date is the sliding door electrical issue.my most pressing concern, however, involves a stalling issue which occurs without warning and without any particular pattern.on september 2, 2010, while traveling on the interstate at appx 60 mph the vehicle stalled out.fortunately, my husband was driving and was able to pull the vehicle to the side of the road.once stopped, the vehicle restarted without trouble and we were able to reach a safe location to call the dealership.the dealership has been unable to identify any problems with the vehicle as they say the "diagnostic tests" show nothing is wrong and that it is operating according to the manufacturer design.i purchased this vehicle in large part to the vw high safety rating, yet, i am not convinced this vehicle lives up to that standard. I previously owned a vw passat prior to the purchase of the routan and was very pleased.however, i cannot say the same about my experience with the routan.a vehicle that stalls without explanation is a safety concern which i would hope would be investigated and addressed immediately.
I purchased this vehicle in march of 2015 when my vehicle shut down and rebooted itself while driving. Since 2019-present, my vehicle shuts off while driving and will restart back up maybe 5 mins, an hour or so later. The abs, check engine, airbag, and other lights on the dashboards come on and remain on, in which, my car begins to make a beeping sound. The headlights, wipers, and sometimes my horn goes on and off by itself. When my vehicle shuts off, so does my ability to steer the wheel, it locks up. When i turn the air on in the car, my car begins to shake as well. Also, i have replaced my car battery, alternator, and starter two times this year and my vehicle still have the same issue.
The key on my vehicle (2010 volkswagen routan) has gotten stuck in the ignition switch while parked and has also gotten stuck on start (causing the engine to crank consistently). My vehicle has an open recall for an ignition switch problem so i took it to my local dealer (gerald jones volkswagen in augusta, georgia). I was told that they could not help me because management refuses to purchase the parts for my vehicle due to the cost of the parts. They said i would have to take my vehicle to another dealer 1-2 hours away. I am now having a difficult time getting my vehicle repaired due to the distance.

It turns on all the lights on the dashboard saying it needs auto assist service there is no problem with it the dealer cannot take care of it because they don't take care of volkswagen routan no more

The technician diagnosed that the battery cable may need to be replaced and also stated that the win module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to another repair shop. The mechanic stated that the win module needed to be replaced, but stated that the battery cables did not. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 11v151000 (electrical system). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 32,000.
While driving my 2010 volkswagen routan at approx 20 mph in a school zone the engine stalled on me.the steering wheel locked up and i had to frantically put the van into park while attempting to restart.this vehicle has done this same thing approx 10 times over the past year.i have notified dealership who said they could not duplicate the issue and that the vehicle had no codes stored the 1st time the vehicle was sent in for repair.2nd time it was sent in they kept it over the weekend so someone could drive it an were able to duplicate.they put a new ignition switch in.van is at dealership again for same issue.they again are saying they cannot duplicate issueand no codes are stored.i was told they will be replacing ignition switch again and "hopefully" this will solve the issue.
The electric rear sliding door has become stuck shut and no power goes to the door.the key becomes stuck and the ignition and are unable to remove it.there have been recalls for the same make and model with these issues, but there are no recalls for these issues tied to our vin.
"takata recall" de repente se dejo de funcionar la llave y el control de mando y se laqueo ya no se puede poner en marcha no reconose la llave esta lakeado conpletamente
The car will randomly will not start. The battery and lights seem to work ok at that time so that is not the problem so it probably is the ignition switch or a sensor. Then car will work again with no changes or fixes made.the problem is hard to replicate but since it happens randomly it normally happens in the worst possible time.
My van shut down while driving again.i was slowing down to a stop at a light and the engine lost power and i lost power steering and brakes.
Recall: 11v151000 / 28g1/u8i almost got into at least 3 times a big accident, as engine shutting off suddenly while i'm driving. This happens anywhere: highway ; intersections, and in heavy traffic.after inspection by a volkswagen specialist at 'e&c auto repair'. Fernando conclusion: engine shutting off because they have a problem with the electrical system ignition switch. This is a safety problem under volkswagen's recall.driving this vehicle is an incredible threat to the public road. The driver, passengers, and the surrounding traffic participants are exposed to a safety risk.based on information on campaign 28g1/u8 (manufacture date from october 2009 through june 2010), my vehicle (manufacture date: march 2010) is qualified for repair under a safety recall. Please provide me authorization number, for a local dealership, to be done safety repair
Vw has a recall on 2010 routan vans on a part call a winn module which controls the car ignition.our van is on the recall list and has shut-off twice in traffic.you have no engine power and lose power steering.on low speed roads not as big a problem as on a freeway were it could be life threatening. Our van has been at south town vw and we have been waiting for 8 weeks for a part that should come in next week.richard the service manager at south town finally admitted they had no idea when the part would come in. So i called vw corporate and spoke with multiple people, one said they had no idea there was a backorder, i informed him the dealer said that they had 30 vanswaiting for the part, at one dealer in utah.finally today, after a week a vw manager named erik walowksi called my wife and said they had no eta on the part and they were still researching the kind of backorder it is.what a relief that they have no idea when part will come in and i have a family van that will quit in traffic.is it possible for this backorder problem to be looked at by someone other the vw before someone gets hurt.thank you
While the car is being driven, at times the engine will cut out, leaving the car in "on" but with no engine power. We then have to pull the steering wheel (with no power steering because the engine is off) to get the car to the side of the road. We then have to put the car in park to start it again. When the engine cuts outwhile driving, we lose power steering and brakes so steering and stopping the car become tremendously hard to do. Extremely dangerous. This has happened 10 times to us in the last year. There is a recall from 2011 and an extension to that recall in 2015, for the same make/model/year i have. However, vw has told me recalls are vin specific and not enough people who have the same build as me have complained, for them to issue another extension. Vw recall #28hi & nhtsa id#15v194000 - i'm having the same exact symptoms, but no help from vw because my vin does not have a "recall" tag for this issue.
The whole electrical system has gone out while driving in limestone county alabama. Keys don't start it none of automatic doors will open.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 75 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled as the etc (electronic throttle control) warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer informed that the vin was not included in the nhtsa campaign number: 11v151000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 108,000.

The approximate failure mileage was 23,200.
The engine shuts off suddenly while driving occurred on a city street, numerous times.there is a recall for the 2010 vw routan having this issue (recall no. 28g1/u8), however according to vw,the vin is not covered.the date listed below is the occurrence of the latest incident.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the ignition module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v194000 (electrical system). The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
While operating the vehicle the car stalled an simply stopped in the middle of driving. Completely ridiculous, very dangerous! your website states that vehicles same year, make and model and manfu date thevsame have recalls for exact same issue. This is urgent. This could cause the death of me or my family.it must be fixed by vw, especially when recalls are there for some.
There was a recall on the minivan routans i just bought it is exhibiting the key fob issue. Where the car just shuts down.i'm not seeing my vehicle there at all can you assist.not really able to demonstrate it consistently but my wife and i have seen it happen twice so far.
While driving in low gears (2nd, 3rd) car will stall out.power steering and power brakes no longer functioning, making the care very difficult to manuever.this is especially scary while driving in snow/ice.making with even more dangerous is stalling while on back roads or curves, if i'm stalled in the middle of the road, another car might not be able to stop and run into me.jerking movements are also occuring when driving at low speeds when not accelerating, like car is going to stall.vin is not included in recall, but it is the same problem that was recalled on other 2010 routans.
Our 2010 routan had engine failure multiple times since we purchased it in june 2010.we would start the car&the ignition would click back off. It has progressed to the point of the ignition turning off while driving. Several times it happened while on road in traffic, causing car to crash into curbs or fences.it culminated in a collision on the freeway due to the ignition shutting off & we were unable to properly brake or swerve away from colliding into back of car. We had informed the dealer several times of the problem&they were never able to locate problem.may was the most recent time we had informed mckenna vw twice of the problem, once at a service appt&once by phone after car had collided with curb after engine failed on street.in june, after collision on freeway,we were made aware of a recall on the ignition of 2010 routans. This recall was made because the ignition switch from on to accessory and thereby could cause crashes .the air bags also did not deploy in the crash.the routan was going roughly 45 mph at had severe front end damage.
Driving at any given time the headlights turn off and do not come on. Stop and restart car and still do not turn on. The high beams or the low beams. They will not switch on. They come on for a few seconds and then turn off. Will turn off as we are driving and we are no longer visible to other cars.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would stall without any warning. The contact was made aware of nhtsa campaign number: 15v194000 (electrical system) however, the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure and replaced the win module. The remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 48,000.
Death & injury risk! volkswagen 2010 routan suddenly shuts off while driving on the highway at 65mph. This has happen more than a few times. Today is the last straw as i was driving on the highway with my kids. I barely survive the incident. I have been taking the vehicle to vw service multiple times. I keep getting the runaround and they say the vehicle is fine as they cannot reproduce the issue. I guess my kids' lives are not important to vw. The van is bran new and only has 8k miles.vw said that they could not do anything and the only advice was that if it shuts off again donot turn on the vehicle stay where you are just call road side assistance. That is the most ridiculous advice i have ever heard! i would need to stay in the middle of the highway or in between a traffic intersection with my kids. I have struggled so much to escalate this and now finally vw has replace the ignition switch base on the 03/10/11 recall. This van also has other problems with the automatic doors. These doors smash my kids and have had some injuries because of this. You trigger the doors to open and you think they will remain open but they don't lock. The doors rapidly close them self, trapping anything in their way. The same behavior happens as you walk away and think the door will shut and lock. You come back from walmart and see that the doors are wide open. The last thing i need is some sicko hiding in the vehicle and i think my vehicle is safe for me and my kids. Also when you put the van in reverse the vehicle stutters and jerks with little tork.i have taken the vehicle for these issues as well and they are not able to replicate so they cannot do anything. In the process of all of this i have also found the most depressing news, my vw is actually a chrysler. I could not believe it when i heard this but i confirmed it. No one ever told me that i was actually buying a chrysler van. I thought i was buying a german vehicle. These horrible events have been traumatizing.
Battery continues to die even after being tested as well as the alternator being tested.both are tested as working.slow discharge causes batter to drain.car will not start and lighting bolt on console illuminates.now have to carry a jump charger to start vehicle
Wireless ignition node (win) does not work properly.car started as normal, but all inside car not working.wipers, dash lighting, gauges, warning lights, radio, interior lighting, and i would assume safety items such as airbags...nothing inside vehicle worked, yet it remained running.upon returning home later in the day, car drove as expected and all other features were working, however van now cannot be shut off.wireless ignition node is now stuck in the run position.due to it being stuck in the run position, locks, alarm, do not work.the key fob also does not stay locked in the win as it should while the vehicle is on.it can just fall out. This part is recalled on these vw routan vehicles manufactured up to june of 2010...my vehicle was manufactured in july of 2010.it seems to me, that i am having very similar issues that i consider significant safety issues.the original recall is from mar 01, 2011 nhtsa campaign id number: 11v151000.according to vw, my vin does not fall under this recall.it should!please look into adding it.thank you
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. While driving, the ignition switch randomly failed to operate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed as a faulty ignition module. I would like to inform you that the tipm is not just related to chrysler. The routan is a joint venture between chrysler and vw. It has the body of a vw body but the engine is a chrysler. My routan has had the tipm fail on 2/6/2016 and confirmed by vw dealership. The van has the same signs that every one else was reporting except that the engine never shut off while. It has the signs of the engine not wanting to turn over, dash lights not wanting to work properly and now the headlights not working on low or high beams. The head lights happened when i was driving on the city streets. The engine not working happens when we come out of the stores from shopping, first thing in the morning and same with the windows and doors opening when not is use. I researched online about other routans and they have chrysler tipm in them. I do not understand why routan's have not been included because it is a chrysler product but it has a vw name on it. It was made in the chrysler windsor plant in canada. This all started in late december of 2014 and it was off and on since then. The headlights problem is new but the engine, doors and windows are off/on issue too.

While driving at 70 mph on the interstate the van shut-off with out warning. There are no check engine lights.the only warning light was the loss of the traction control.i was able to move the van to the shoulder even with the loss of steering.it took several tries, but i was able to restart the van.this has happened in the past at low speeds.the egr valve was replaced two months ago.i have also replaced the integrated power control module in the past 1.5 years.i have also have issues of the van not wanting to start.i turn the ignition key and there is no response from the van.it is as if i am not even trying to start the van. This is a huge safety issue.search the internet and you will find this is a common issue.i am disappointed that there has not been a safety recall on.

The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. While driving approximately 20 mph, the esp warning indicator illuminated and the engine seized. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. While driving (car in motion)the car to pick up my children from school, it sounded like it was draining. The alert light beeped so i looked atdash the lights/info on car started blinking then thecar stopped completelyin middle of the road. No power would work i couldn't roll down the windows or turn on hazard lights, i had to put car in park. The key was stuck in the ignition and would not start from a jump. The car had no warning signs and was recently inspected and checked on computer and they were unable to get any codes or see any engine problems. Car would not even go into neutral to move off the road. Car was towed to my home and still not able to jump battery and car won't start. All power remains off and can't lock car with key either.
The whole electrical system has gone out while driving in limestone county alabama. Keys don't start it none of automatic doors will open.
Van warning lights come on without notice; when driven instrument panel lights flicker and dim, audio system cuts off and on while driving. Was taken to dealer and had tipm was replaced and issue still persists.
When car is running, either in park or drive, the engine cuts out. We must wait 30 sec to restart. It will then restart. This action happend both when the car is in park and drive. The action happened once in our driveway and once coming out of a carry out driveway.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. While driving 35-40 mph on the highway, the vehicle stalled and the engine seized without warning. The contact had to immediately move the vehicle over to the shoulder. All the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to bobby becks volkswagen (893 s stemmons fwy, lewisville, tx 75067, (855) 315-4505) to be diagnosed, but the computer could not read the codes. The vehicle was not repaired. Themanufacturer wasnot made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000.
On several occasions starting in march 2015, my 2010 vw routan (manufactured in july 2010 by chrysler) simply shuts off while driving the vehicle. When this occurs, i have no engine power, no power steering and no power brakes and am concerned about personal safety.i bought the van new in september 2010 for my wife, but no longer allow her to drive it as i am afraid it will shut down on her (it requires a bit of arm strength to pull the vehicle over and hopefully i am not rear-ended before being able to do so).i understand there is now a recall on the ignition for 2010 routans, but my vin does not appear to be within the window indicated for the recall even though the date of manufacture is within the window.i am not sure if the ignition switch is the cause of the problem, but the symptoms sound similar.also, there are times when i turn the ignition key to start the motor but it will not actually engage the starter.the radio will come on, but there is no impact on the starter.after several attempts while sitting there, i can get the switch to actually work.i love the van, but have become scared of these issues. If the van ever shuts down when i am on the highway, the speeds will be treacherous. I have searched the internet and found others with similar complaints.i very much see this as a safety concern and want you to be aware of these issues. I sincerely appreciate any assistance you can provide.
I was driving about 30 mph when it felt like the car was going to die/stall. My vehicle has only 30k on it and actually sat at home two years after i bought it while i work from home. Nevertheless it felt like the engine was going to stall out like i had no gasoline. This issue started out intermittent, but progressed and i could feel shaking from the floor boards.i took it into the dealer and they replaced some ball bearings under warranty. However about a month later the same problem starting occurring. This time the check engine light came on. I took it into the dealer and they said the spark plugs and the coil pack were bad. This part is supposed to last about 100k. It was out of warranty so we took it somewhere else to get it fixed. It has been fixed a few weeks and it feel like the same problem is happening again. The car does not shift well at low speeds and seems to almost stall out while turning corners. Also it is idling at a higher rpm than it had several months ago.
While driving the van it began to smell like radiator coolant. Checked temperature gauge and realized temperature fluctuation. No engine light or check engine light ever came on the dashboard. Opened hood and discovered coolant was sprayed all over the hood liner and engine due to the failure of this part. Took it to the vw garage and we were told it has been a common occurrence with the vw routan leading one to think it is a design flaw of the hose assembly. The total damages due to this one hose assy failure known to date is the following: plastic heater core hose assembly; temperature sensor; thermostat; hood liner soaked and ruined; and replace coolant. Repair bill is near $1000.00 for all these items. Furthermore, if this had gone unnoticed due to the lack of a check engine light, this could cause additional damage to the cylinder head and may lead to an accident.
My mini-van shut off/ stalled while i was driving on the road.every time it stalled i was driving slowly through construction zone or in front of a light where i had to pressed the brake to stop the car for over 30 seconds. I send it to vw service for repair but no problem was found.i am too scared to drive the car because i never know when its the next time it will stall again while i am driving on the road.

When driving the volk just cuts this happens often it is only myself and my ggrand son in the vech. They told me there was no recall. But i beleive there is
I just entered the expressway.the engine started revving between 5-6 rpms, and the car was going 40.i noticed smoke coming from the back of the car, so i went to the next exit (2 blocks) and got off the expressway.the car was smoking.a passerby told me to get out of the car because of the smoke and liquid pouring out of the car.i then had to call the fire department because vw's roadside assistance wouldn't come until the fire department cleared the car to be towed.finally, it was towed to the dealership.they determined that it was broken heater hoses and water pipes.had i been in the fast lane when this happened, a serious crash could have occurred, as the smoke and revving began so suddenly, as did the slow car speed.
My van has shut off twice now while driving. Both events have occurred while turning right, at a slow speed on city streets (one time with my children in the vehicle).i lose power steering and brakes and the engine appears to shut down (radio remains on).when i first tried to restart it, it wouldn't and then the second attempt sounded unusual but it did start.the traction control light lit up on the dashboard as well.both times were in good driving conditions.after the first time, due to my research on the issue, i only use the fob with nothing else hanging from it.in addition, i also have the issue of the vehicle randomly not starting.i usually get it to start by fiddling with the shifter.of course, my van is not included in the ignition module recall, which is completely absurd as it is clearly happening to a lot of us. I love everything about this van except for these two major issues.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while traveling 72 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 33,100.
The vehicle turned off in the drive gear. I lost steering, breaking and control of vehicle.
While driving my car, on multiple occasions now, the engine has shut off.the car remains on but the gas and steering do not work.the most recent time i had to quickly pull to the side as i was driving 35mph. I see that there was a recall for our make and model but when we're calling vw, they are saying it did not effect my specific vehicle.
The key turns however the engine doesn't. This happens at any given time, when the engine is cold, hot, after we've driven a couple of blocks and /or miles, it could happen once a day or several times a day, a few days in a roll or not for a week. We took it to the dealer twice and they claim it never happened to them. ( however they did offer to buy it , that's another story) the problem continues, everyone wants to run it thru diagnostics for a charge but no guarantee for repair...please help!
Engine turns off while driving down the road.vehicle has trouble restarting after an occurrence.there is no indication as to when this issue will occur.the check engine light does not come on before or after an incident.volkswagen claims my vin is not part of the ignition recall, nhtsa campaign id 15v194000. At approximately ~70,000 miles this would occur about once a month.now at 105,000 miles it is occurring more often.normally once a week, but it has occurred just recently two days in a row.volkswagen service department is unhelpful since there is no code in the computer.

Driving on a neighborhood street when a sudden drop in the ac power followed by a quick rise in the engine temp to the top of the gauge.within 2 minutes steam was observed coming out of the engine.quickly pulled over to the side of the road.after cooling the engine and opening the hood it was observed that engine coolant was all over the engine parts and boiling off due to the heat.water was poured in the radiator and a leak was observed from a plastic y joint in the water cooling pipe/assembly. Vw part number 7b0121086b.with the water filled to the max as soon as the engine was started a steady stream of water was observed coming out of the y joint.with over a gallon of water in the vehicle drove the car home and in less than 3 miles the water was completely drained from the system.please cross reference this with any complaints related to the chrysler town and country minivan and the dodge grand caravan as they are all produced by chrysler corp.the y connector failure was easily found online and appears to be a defective part / design flaw as the plastic piece was not able to withstand the pressure and heat and seemed to split at the seam to cause the leak.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph on a highway, all of the warning lights suddenly illuminated on the instrumental panel. Reported issue to vw recall group via telephone 5/13/2019.this is very similar to a recall that took place for vw routan 2009-2010 that were created between the dates of october 2019 to june 2010.our vehicle was created in august of 2010, and i suspect the same parts were still used.two issues have occurred with 2010 vw routan sel minivan 4.0lissues started occurring after replacing a lost key fob.key fob was ordered through local vw dealer (bob king vw) and replaced.first issue:car would not start.put key into ignition switch, turn key, the ignition switch clicks but the car would not start.in order to start car, wait and repeat steps until car actually starts.second issue: (highly dangerous)intermittent shut off while driving causing power steering to turn off as well as brakes.very dangerous combination due to the fact that turning becomes very difficult as well as braking.in order to brake you have to apply great force to break since there is no power to the car.this issue has been encountered over the past two months at least four (4) times while the primary driver has been driving the vehicle.the first three times the vehicle was in motion in a residential area.the last time this issue occurred 5/13/2019 the vehicle was in motion on a major road way near an intersection.evasive maneuvers were taken to get vehicle off of road and into a nearby parking lot off the street.
My vehicle is experiencing the same problem as other vehicles of the same year that received a recall.the car just shuts off, loses power and all steering, braking and so on.it makes the vehicle very dangerous.the other vehicles in this year all had bad ignition switches but vw refuses to include my vehicle and others like it of the same model year that have the exact same problem.i believe that they need to expand this recall to include more vehicles of the 2010 model.the vehicle is not safe to drive and is scary when it just cuts out on you when you are driving 30-40 mph plus.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, the vehicle started vibrating and the speed fluctuated independently. Also, the vehicle started to jerk and the contact lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a faulty sensor. The vehicle was repaired. The failure recurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the vehicle would not accelerate over 40 mph. The contact also mentioned that the rear passenger door made an abnormal noise when being opened. The vehicle was taken to hiley volkswagen of arlington (1461 e interstate 20, arlington, tx 76018, (817) 575-6000) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The dealer stated that the door was not under warranty; however, the transmission was repaired. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred after the vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 112,000.
Bought the van in february 2012 since then it has been in the shop 11 times for transmission, rotors, and my passenger sliding doors they open automatically. Now its leaking antifreeze and we bought extended warranty and this part the plastic y part that contexts two hoses they say isn't covered and wants us to pay 450$ to do it..the van has 38,035 miles we bought it with 18,563 miles how can this vehicle have this many problems? my power doors i believe if they open when your pumping gas isn't right.
While driving on a highway at 65 mph my car suddenly shut off and the steering wheel tighten up.i was in the left lane and was able to get over to the shoulder.i turned the vehicle off and it turned back on with no problem.a second incident occurred 03/09/11 as i was attempting to turn right at an intersection.my steering wheel was so tight that i could not make the turn and had to drift to the other side of the intersection because i had already slowed down to make the turn.again the car turned back on.my car also frequently stalls immediately upon turning it on but i thought nothing of it until it started stalling while driving.i took it in for service and was told that they could not replicate the problem and that the computer was not indicating a problem.therefore the car was fine and i should come and pick it up.i informed them when i dropped the car off that i read online that there was a pending recall for the ignition switch that was released on 03/10/11; however, the dealership informed me that they could not replace the ignition switch until the recall was official sometime in april because they would not be reimbursed.i have filed a compliant with vw and am waiting for a response from the regional manager.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled without any warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after placing it in the park position. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who advised her that they were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was also contacted and advised her that she was not included in any recalls. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.
2010 routan with less than 10k miles on it. While driving on a city street the vehicle shut off leaving us with no power brakes, no power steering and very little control of the car. My husband was able to pull over and wait for the car to stop. He then put it in park and restarted it. We took it straight to the dealership service. The same thing had happened to me the day before and at least a dozen times before that. I thought it was something i was doing. Vw service can find nothing wrong with the vehicle and we have made it clear that they can keep ituntil they do. We do not feel safe and will not trust our lives or the lives of our child and friends in this car. I have heard many other people with this same problem. Something needs to be addressed asap. I have contacted vw and notified them of the problem and waiting for a call back. Also waiting for news on our vehicle..day 2 at the shop.
Driving at any given time the headlights turn off and do not come on. Stop and restart car and still do not turn on. The high beams or the low beams. They will not switch on. They come on for a few seconds and then turn off. Will turn off as we are driving and we are no longer visible to other cars.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced numerous failures. The rear rotors became warped numerous times and the dealer replaced the rotors four times. The transmission would cause the vehicle to lunge abruptly when the gear was shifted from reverse to drive. Additionally, the fog light assembly became overheated and burned several times. The plastic on the front passenger side door became fractured and caused the contact to sustain lacerations to the right hand and fingers. The vehicle was taken the to the dealer where all defective parts were replaced however, the contact was concerned that the failures would likely recur. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 11,418 and the current mileage was 14,470.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact called hatfield volkswagen (1495 auto mall dr, columbus, oh 43228, (855) 627-5215) and was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The contact stated that the failure was similar to a fuel pump relay failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.*dt
In april 2015 the check engine light came on in my 2010 vw routan, maybe a week or so later it started to stall while i was driving it. I took it to an import dealer locally to have it looked at and was told that the egr valve was bad. They replaced it, which cost me $400, and put a new gas cap on it. In july the engine light came on again, had the codes run at a parts store and it was the egr valve again. Took it back to the shop that did the first repair because it still had a parts and labor warrantee with them. They replaced it again. Now, in september, my engine light is on again and again it says it's the egr valve. I have called the shop to get it in to be repaired again, waiting on a call back. This issue is quite scary because it has and probably will again stall out on the highway causing me to have to try to pull over and put it in neutral to restart it. I called vw customer care and was told that i would need to take it to a vw dealership at my own cost to have it diagnosed, and basically tell me what i already know, i am not spending another $400 to replace this valve when i have already done that once this year. Because i refuse to pay for repairs that are covered under the original shop warrantee vw refuses to do anything or even acknowledge that this is an issue.
When car is running, either in park or drive, the engine cuts out. We must wait 30 sec to restart. It will then restart. This action happend both when the car is in park and drive. The action happened once in our driveway and once coming out of a carry out driveway.
Power rear sliding doors open and then close when you open them with the key fob, handle, or inside swtich. When this happens the safety feature does not work.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate without warning. In addition, the key fob failed to unlock the front driver's side door upon activation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. An unknown repair was performed on the door lock. The technician was unable to determine the cause of failure related. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 29,000. The vin was not available.

Around 108000 miles,my 2010 routan automatic transmission started jerking into gears 2, 3,4. Sometimes it shifts smoothly but more often it's hard enough to jerk all passengers while driving. I have tried eco mode with same results.driving normal it seems to be worse than when speeding up quickly.3rd gear is the worst and is hard enough to throw you forward causing you to swerve sometimes.it's the same results in town,on highway, and in stop and go traffic. Now has 129000 miles and getting worse. There are other times it feels like it didn't want to shift up and would over rev before shifting up.
This complaint is regarding my new 2010 volkswagen routan, the car is under two months old. The accident occurred after i pulled into my driveway and i put the car in park and left the keys in the engine because i was going to run into open the garage.... I wanted to get a puppy out of the rear of the car first so i went and stood behind the car but it was locked (clearly in parked.) i then went to the drivers side to hit the unlock switch on the door and the car started reversing and i was just caught really off guard so i tried to jump in the car as it was backing up but i guess my reaction was too late and i ended up being shoved on the pavement as the car rolled out of our driveway. At this point i was caught under the open drivers door and i was dragged across my street.... I managed to get out from under the door. Thankfully our neighborhood has deep gutters, i was able to catch up to the car and i manage to jump in because of the stall the gutter created. The car nearly ran through the neighbor's garage and just missed their mailbox. I have no idea how the car could go from a clearly "parked" position to "reverse" on it's own.i have road rash on my toes, feet, knees (my jeans are wrecked), on my hips and on my shoulders. I have bruises from the door being caught on my leg, my entire leg is swollen. After the incident i immediately called the local police department and filed a report.
The first incident occurred 8/22/2012.the transmission went out. The car would not drive and would rev.had to be towed.bearings in the transmission were replaced. 9/22/12. The transmission went out again.was going up hill and the transmission would rev and not click into gear.had to have the car towed 200 miles back home.was told by the dealership my transmission blew up.they replaced. The transmission. Got it back.still wasn't driving right it was vibrating and making a noise. I insisted it was not correct took them a week to figure out that one of the engine mounts sheared off because they threaded the engine wrong when they put my engine back after replacing the transmission.

My car recently started having issues shifting into the next gear.typically happens when i have been driving for a while.all of a sudden it will get stuck in a gear and it won't shift.the car can be in motion or even stationary (stop light) when it happens.
Vehicle stationary in park. Gear slipped and car drove backwards down the hill, stopped, then slipped into drive and drove itself into lake. My dog crated in back. She drowned. Incline was slight. Gravel. Ashe county park jefferson nc. I was outside the car trying to crate my other dog when this happened.
I was driving on i 66 in virginia and got stuck in traffic due to an earlier accident. Car went for about a mile in stop and go traffic, when suddenly the car started to rev up and jumped into gear to move forward. I thought maybe something was stuck, so i put into park and turned the engine off, and restarted it. It did it again after doing it for about 5 times, i was able to get over to the side of the highway. I called a tow truck and had it taken to my mechanic. He told me that i need a new transmission. My car had 135000. Miles on it. No warning lights at all came on. My mechanic had just fixed it two weeks before for the heater hose cracking after being replaced a year ago.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle shifted into neutral independently. The vehicle was restartedbut the failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was made aware of a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 11v151000 (electrical system) however, the vin was not included and the contact did not confirm if the recall was associated with the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.
Automatic transmission change of gears jerks the vehicle during 1-3 gears.in eco mode same jerking of transmission.vw states it is a town and country problem that a chrysler dealership must re-code the transmission.
This is my second complaint. I'm still waiting on the other to hear back on. Now it seems to be the transmission. When i'm shifting out of park into reverse or drive it jams and makes a really bad noise like if it is going to break off. This happens often and has been doing this for about a month. I will be taking it in to the dealer to see what they can find and also have them hopefully resolve my other complaint which is still the ticking noise and the brake skidding still happens.
Just over 2 months after having my 2010 vw routan, on at least 5 occasions i started the car and it immediately turned off.i also noticed the transmission seemed to be struggling every once in a while.i eventually took the car into the dealer service department and they told me they were unable to find anything wrong.today, which is about 1 week since getting the car back from the dealer, i was driving on the highway with my 3 kids in the back and while driving the engine turned off with no warning.it was as if the car was in neutral all of a sudden.i was able to pull over to the side of the highway and turned off the car.it then turned back on.
Our 2010 vw routan rolls back severely on even a slight incline when in drive or reverse.the dealer's tech agreed it was abnormal and the service manager thought so, too, but, according to vw specs, it is "normal."we fear that on an incline stop, such as at a stop sign, it will roll back and hit the car behind us or any person/object behind us.when in reverse on an incline, we fear hitting someone/something in front of the car, because of its propensity to roll forward.there is not enough time for one to get one's foot from the brake pedal to the gas to make it safe enough to drive.the company has conveyed to us that our only recourse is through the dealer, and we've done that with no satisfaction for our safety concerns.they say "they all do this," and if that's the case, we believe they are "all" unsafe.
The car failed to slow down or stop when applying pressure to brakes at traffic light. Had to turn ignition off in order to have car slow down and than eventually stop. Also failed to back up when pressing gas pedal at first and than jumped into gear when foot was released. The check engine light went on and it was taken to be fixed. The codes that came up were po731 and po935. Waiting on parts to come in. Also, the tire sensor on the car was defective. I have been waiting for 43 days now. I have asked for the parts from volkswagen now to save the parts two times.
The contact owns 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the transmission and steering goes out on the vehicle. The vehicle will stop while driving at any speed and the steering will fail. If the vehicle is turned off and re-started the transmission will work, but the vehicle will continue to shift very hard and there is a loud banging sound and it feels like someone hit the vehicle. The vehicle gives no warning before the failures occur. The dealer has inspected the vehicle and stated that they cannot find any problems with the transmission. The failure mileage and current mileages was 659.

The whole electrical system has gone out while driving in limestone county alabama. Keys don't start it none of automatic doors will open.
The vehicle's rear brakes are prematurely wearing uneven in the rear of the vehicle, causing safety concerns for my family. When i went to look up brake replacement online one of the reviews said that a clip was left off during the manufacturing process during the merging between chrysler and volkswagen.
2010 routan with 26k miles pulls to the right and most likely has done so since i bought it since the tires need replacing. The brakes have been replaced at 18k and now need to be done again. Vw denies there is an issue with vehicles pulling to the right. Opened case 130240300 with vw. They refuse to cover the cost to diagnose the cause of the pulling and tire wear. Recall needs to be issued i have seen numerous postings with the same issue online.
The brakes started vibrating and shuddering when the brake pedal was pushed.took to dealer and were told that the rotors were warped and the disk pads were worn out.still under warranty so they replaced rotors and brake pads.this has happened approximately every 8 months we have had the car.the first three were covered under warranty.i had to fight with the dealer for the third replacement.the fourth replacement of the brakes the dealer refused to cover the cost.we had to pay to get the work done.we are now about 10 months from those brake replacements and once again the car is shuddering violently when we apply the brakes.this seems to be a chronic issue and a safety issue.i understand that brake pads wear out but i cannot believe that you have to replace the rotors and brake pads every 8/10 months under normal driving.this car is primarily used to take my kids to school and activities.updated 5/1/2015
My van shut down while driving again.i was slowing down to make a turn and the engine lost power and i lost power steering and brakes.

Volkswagen routan 2010: the steering wheel shakes violently upon braking a regular speeds, especially going downhill. Front rotors were replaced at 22,000, 35,000, and now 54,000 miles.
Car flashes abs esp skid control monitor, shuts car off while driving. Goes back off, does it again.locks the car, won't start, then startsa bit later.
2010 volkswagen routon with 17,000 miles began shaking and shuddering every time i brake, even at slow speeds. This car is used for minimal driving. I brought my car in and was told i need new rotors and that my rotors were warped. I am still driving the car and the brakes still shudder and shake.. I spoke to a mechanic that doesn't work for volkswagen but on german cars and he said he owned a routon and it is a common problem with their rotors. I read several complaints and reviews online with the same issue too. I don'tthink its safe to have car manufacturers make brake systems so poorly as i may be able to afford a repair, many else wont as the repair is costly and not what a person would expect from a car with little mileage. I just wanted to bring it to your attention in case others have reported the problem.
Van cutsoff while driving. Inability to steer, limited braking. Car goes completely deadbut still startback once i have completely stopped.this is very hazardous especiallywhen your driving over 45 with a lotof traffic following behind you.
When driving down the road going about 30mph my car suddenly shut off. No indicator lights came on and my power steering was gone as well as my ability to brake well. Looking online their was a recall on my model year and make of van for the same problems with the ignition switch but my vin number did not pull up a recall. I contacted vw and they also stated my car was not part of that recall. Thankfully i was able to pull to side of the road safely.
My van shut down while driving again.i was slowing down to a stop at a light and the engine lost power and i lost power steering and brakes.
When i brake the streering wheel shakes from other consumer complaints it is a brake issue as it only happens when i brake. There needs to be a recall! the car is still under warranty when it started happening!
The rear rotors are found to be out of specification from the factory.the vehicle vibrates severely when braking from speeds in excess of 50 mph.i first complained about the problem to the dealership the vehicle was at approximately 3,500 miles and was told that it was a tire pressure problem and that the rotors were fine.i complained again at approximately 9,000 miles and was told the same thing.finally at 12,606 miles i returned to the dealership and requested that they test the vehicle at 50 mph, as on previous occasions they had driven it in the parking lot and the problem does not manifest at speeds below 40 mph.the dealership finally admitted that there was a problem with the rear rotors in that the were out of specification, i.e. The wrong ones had been installed at the factory.my concern is that an accident could have occurred due to the incorrect rotors and i now wonder how many other routan vans left the factory with the same problem.if the dealership and done a proper job when i first complained about the problem i would not be concerned at the moment.vw could have faced a severe liability lawsuit if i had been involved in a crash because of the out of specification rotors.

The vehicle turned off in the drive gear. I lost steering, breaking and control of vehicle.
Van cutsoff while driving. Inability to steer, limited braking. Car goes completely deadbut still startback once i have completely stopped.this is very hazardous especiallywhen your driving over 45 with a lotof traffic following behind you.
Vehicle pulls to the right. Vehicle was taken to dealer three times for repair and to an independent dealer. Alignment performed each time, but vehicle continues to pull to right. Dealer and vwoa state that because alignment is within spec there is nothing that can be done. I indicated that problem is likely with steering rack, suspension or sub frame, but dealer and vwoa insisted that because alignment is within spec there is nothing else they will do.vehicle continues to pull to the right and driving vehicle requires constant pressure on wheel to keep the vehicle straight.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. While the contact was driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle began pulling into the right direction independently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer five times for the identical failure. A front end alignment was performed twice and the rear axle was also replaced. The failure persisted following repairs. The contact was in the process of taking the vehicle back to the dealer. The failure mileage was 4.
The steering wheel makes a cranking sound when right turns and left turn is made.apparent that an accident can easily occur if this persists.the dealership in greatneckny was not able correct this problem despite numerous complaints.this problem happen when the vehicle is in motion and turns are made by the driver.this problem has persisted over the years - sometime in august 2012, i brought vehicle into the dealership to have it checked for a problem related to the steering wheel.i still have a related problem with the vehicle.this vehicle is unsafe to drive my 5 children.becuase the dealer could not resolve this problem and it has now arose again.this complaint is now submitted.i do have an invoice which states my complaint back in 2012.

The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan.the contact was driving 35 mph when the vehicle began abnormally pulling to the right, causing difficulty in steering.the contact took the vehicle to a local dealer to have a wheel alignment performed and to have the tires rotated yet the failure persisted. The contact stated there were many complaints online regarding the same year, make and model as his with complaints of the vehicle pulling to the right independently.the contact was concerned of a potential crash involved with the failure occurring.the failure mileage was 200. When the vehicle is parked on a slope the driver's side rear passenger door opens then immediately closes and risks trapping exiting passengers. The issue does not appear on the door on the opposite side. The issue has been reported to volkswagen several times but according to them "it works as designed". It has almost trapped our daughter and elderly relatives.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan.the contact stated that the rear sliding doors would not latch and the doors would slide open while the vehicle was in motion.the rear sliding doors would also close intermittently without activation.a child was injured as a result of the rear door closing without activation and closed on the child's body.the dealer replaced the sliding doors, but the failure recurred.the manufacturer denied any assistance with repairs to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 21,000 and the current mileage was 25,000.
When closing the power sliding door on the passenger side, my daughter reached back in and the door closed 4 fingers in it. The door is supposed to open back up when it senses that something is in the way of it closing. In this case, it fully latched and stayed closed with her fingers stuck in it.
Drivers side sliding door will not open. I've tried all kinds of ways to open it and it will not budge. Also, when driving, car shut off with no warning.
Automatic sliding door did not lock in open position. Instead, it opened almost all the way and then immediately began closing again. I was already reaching into the van at that point and had to move out of the way quickly after applying pressure to the door to keep it from closing on me didn't work. This has happened on 3 other occasions. Vehicle was seen by a vw dealership under warranty. They could not replicate the issue but stated it was a known glitch. It took a lot of force from me as an adult to try to stop the door from closing. We have 3 children that ride regularly in our van. "known glitch" is not acceptable.
While my 3 year old was entering the vehicle through the side sliding door, she pressed the button to close the door. While the door was closing, she slipped getting her ankle/foot trapped between the door jam and door but over the bracket attaching the front of the door. The door continued to close until it jammed, she fell outside the vehicle while still being trapped. We had to push on the door to try to slowly open it to attempt to free her. After picking her up and reaching under the door to move her foot we were able to free her. The entire time we were trying to free my daughter the door kept making a clicking noise.
Power rear sliding doors open and then close when you open them with the key fob, handle, or inside swtich. When this happens the safety feature does not work.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan.
On 1/7/13 we were simply trying to open the rear power lift gate using the remote and overhead button to no avail. Extremely disappointed to find out that the rear deck lid lift gate drive unit chain (part#51528) broke thus causing the power lift gate of our routan se to be inoperable. After 3yrs and barely 7 months of normal use, we are appalled that this chain for the power lift gate would suddenly break for no logical reason. What is more shocking, the price for this part is $1,100 excluding labor. This is the quote that was given today by king volkswagen service department.

Three weeks prior, i'd installed 4 new tires. Returning home from dr's. Office this day, i heard a small 'pop', then began hearing rumbling, then realized car being pulled to edge of road. Flat tire? on a 3 wk old tire? sure enough the right front tire was flat. Very fortunate for location of occurrence, speed zone, and distance to the very place i'd purchased the tires. This vehicle is equipped with tpms. The sensor stem is held tight to the exterior of the rim with a metal nut. The nut had popped off while driving, thus the stem retracted towards the inside the rim / wheel and released all the air in the tire. The threads on the stem were corroded away and could no longer hold the nut in place. I had to purchase a new tire. I decided to have the tire store look at the other 3 stems / nuts on the outside. Only one of the three remaining nuts could be loosened. The other two were fused in placed due to corrosion. I decided to have remove the other 3 stems removed as i did not trust them enough to put my wife or grandsons, or any passenger in the vehicle with me after seeing what happened. Had i been seeing one of my other doctors, taking route 531 at the 65mph limit, and this had happened on one of the several severe curves, i shudder to think what may have happened. The sensors actually are labeled as 'chrysler' product. I have called both vwcares and chrysler and brought this to their attention. I have warned as many family and friends as possible about these tpms sensors and stems, and advised them all to inspect theirs regularly. Our son is a gm technician and advised us that gm actually recognized they needed to upgrade their valve stems a few years ago to protect such an occurrence.
While driving at a speed of 50 mph on a rural road, the front driver-side tire instantly deflated. Fortunately, the vehicle was safely pulled over away from traffic. Upon examination it was found that the valve stem had broken off, and the tire had deflated as a result. The rest of the tire was in good condition. In this type of vehicle, the tire pressure monitoring system (tpms) is part of the valve stem, and that is what had broken off. A second similar incident happened approximately 6 months later with the rear driver-side tire of the vehicle, while traveling at 55 mph.
Front driver side tire rapidly deflated causing the vehicle to pull right into on coming traffic. The near miss could have been fatal. Upon investigation it was determined that the cause was corrosion of the tpms valve. I did a quick internet investigation and learned that the corrosion andresulting tire failure are common incidents. Why haven't these faulty tpms valves been recalled?this issue will surely result in deaths which i believe is the opposite of what these tpms sensors are for.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated while driving 25 mph the left rear tire sensor that was located inside the tire came loose causing the tire to become flat. The vehicle was taken to a tire shop where they installed the spare tire and informed him of the loose sensor within the tire. The dealer normanufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,300.
Takara recalli was driving (the vehicle was in motion) on a cott street and the van started shaking then the engine just shut off. Then the van would turn on, but would shut off immediately. I had to call a tow truck to get the van off the road. I could have crashed and now i don't want to drive my kids in that vehicleanymore. I just don't feel safe. Also i just bought this vehicle 4 days earlier from a used car dealer.
The car stalls/ turns off while driving on city streets. Happens randomly every couple of weeks since purchase of the car in 2016. Have to pull over and restart car. Have had mechanic look at , no codes are coming up related to it.
When you turn the ignition nothing happens - absolutely nothing!.the car does not start, or make a sound as if it is trying to start.you have to sit and wait several minutes up to fifteen and then it may start.vw has replaced the ignition switch according to the recall and still we continue to have the same problem.we have taken the vehicle into the delearship and had several others look at this situation as well.i viewed several online forums and found out that many others have had the same issue.i called the vw customer care line and have not had satisfaction as they insist on having a dealership look it over and they want us to continue to pay for replacing more parts.i have explained to customer care that if they take the time to look online they will see many complaints for this issue and all they come back with is "we monitor online for complaints about our vehicles and when we see many we investigate.well it looks as if they are not doing a good job.we have had the starter replaced (cost $530.79) and today they told us the starter went bad because a module was bad and we now need to pay an additional 600 dollars.if the module was bad, that should have been replaced and not the starter. For almost 6 years this issue has been going on and they did nothing.now they want us to pay for something they should have repaired years ago.
The car starts when it wants to. It could be fine then go out to start it and it does not turn over. Battery has been replaced, starter replaced twice nobody can figure out what is going on. I see this is very common in the reviews. Has happened multiple times

Vw routan does not start sometimes.one day it starts, and other day it does not.the computer diagnosis does not detect any problem.
My car has an issue of not turning over randomly. For no apparent reason it will not start. I've had the car checked several times and the issue is still the same. My mechanic find nothing wrong with vehicle.
My car stopped working.the lights would come on but the car wouldn't start.we test the battery and aultinator, fuse and starter.we could not find the problem.we researched and found that there is a recall on the van for the problem.i called the volkswagen company and gave them my vin number and they had a dealership to handle the problem.after a few days they called me and stated that there is a $600.00 charge for the problem to be fix.i told that it was a recall on the van but he stated that my vin number doesn't match.there is a recall on the volkswagen routan 2010 from october 2019 to june 2020.mine is manufactured in april 2020 with the same ignition problem.
It turns on all the lights on the dashboard saying it needs auto assist service there is no problem with it the dealer cannot take care of it because they don't take care of volkswagen routan no more
I had the following problem occur within the first few months of owning a 2010 routan.(the dealership told me that it was not a problem, rather that i was not familiar with the way the new transmissions work.)when the cruise control is set near 50 mph and the vehicle goes downhill it will downshift automatically and the engine will increase its rpms, essentially creating a motor-brake that keeps the speed less than about 55 mph.i accepted their explanation and their assurance that it was safe and would not damage the vehicle.i have only observed this happening at speeds near 50mph.however, this sunday when it happened on a particularly long, winding hill, i decided that i would prefer to manually use the brake, so after it began downshifting i pressed the cruise control button to turn it off.it did not turn off.i pressed the button several more times, but it had no effect.i pressed my foot on the brake, but the vehicle stayed in the lower gear with the engine revving and it appeared to me that the brake and the engine were working against one another.i decided to let the vehicle control itself until we returned to level ground.once we reached level ground and i could hear the engine begin to reduce its rpms, i pressed on the brake and the cruise control disengaged.this was scary but controllable because the road was dry and the road, though steep, was wide and easy to navigate. However, on a snowy or wet road, this would have been a very dangerous problem and if it happens to anyone else they may panic and do something even more dangerous.then, an accident investigator will not realize the cause of the accident because, as in my case, the cruise control will be turned off.but the driver will not have been in control of the vehicle.this, i believe is a very unsafe situation.i have not reported this sunday's incident to the dealer or to vw.
Van cutsoff while driving. Inability to steer, limited braking. Car goes completely deadbut still startback once i have completely stopped.this is very hazardous especiallywhen your driving over 45 with a lotof traffic following behind you.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while entering a residential garage, the rear liftgate glass exploded as the rear lift gate haphazardly opened. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 17,000.
Cpsc: 2010 volkswagen routan these cars seem to have an inherent issue with the driver side window regulators . The consumer stated when the window regulator failed it sounded as if a bomb went off and hit the window. The consumer has 2 volkswagen routans with the same issue. The consumer would like to be reimbursed for the cost of repairs.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the tire pressure warning light illuminated as the front passenger's side tire deflated. The contact had a roadside assistance service change the tire and install the spare. The tire was taken to the dealer, who stated that the valve stem on the tire was corroded. The wheel was repaired but the failure recurred on the rear driver's side wheel. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while performing a routine inspection, he noticed that the valve stem was corroded. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was advised that the stem would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 33,000.
Our van was in motion on the highway after an almost 2 hour drive on the highway.loud noise, screeching, shake/vibration and a large bang and the van dropped.upon stopping and inspecting we found the right front and left rear bolts had completely sheered completely off both wheels while driving on the highway.we were able to coast to side of road and and the wheel hubs were resting on the inside of the rim.the wheel hubs have destroyed the inside of the rims, the heat created from the grinding has melted the vw emblem on the rim.the right front tire had also come to rest on the right fender.the right rear tire was out of alignment/proper positioning however our visual inspection and lack of experience i cannot determing if these bolts are also starting to breakdown or the incident may have caused a drive shaft/axle damage.
