It lasted approximately 7 weeks later september 2015 and once again the car is periodically stallingwhen trying to start. Vehicle completely turns off while driving, losing all control, use of brakes and steering. It has been 4 weeks since the recall was sent out and there is still no fix available, and the company can not give any other information besides they are working on it.

The car suddenly shuts down loosing all electrical power. It looses all power steering and braking ability.it has done this several times at various speeds. I have to completely turn off the car and start it all over again. This has been very dangerous.
All icons on instrument panel light up causing wipers to deploy, loss of radio/gps, high beam headlights, turn signals, fog lights and preventing the unlocking of rear doors.problem was diagnosed by port charlotte vw specialist as tipm failure.this failure occurs when in motion and when ignition is turned on.

Tipm box needs to be replaced, vw dealership says it is faulty and has glitches that need to be repaired but it exceeds my warranty. I purchased this van 3 weeks ago and the radio will go out or stay on, the wipers will come on by themselves and the tire pressure light will come on.
Van has stalled while driving on multiple occasions.power steering is lost. Vehicle will then start right back up. This is extremely dangerous for a minivan used to transport multiple children. No codes or faults are recorded.
We've had multiple problems with the van not starting and the dealer did not do anything about because they could not recreate the problem. We received a recall notice in august for ignition problems which could result in the power brakes and airbags shut down while driving.i have called two dealers and vw customer service and they keep saying they still do not have parts after 2 months.

We purchased this used in february 2019 and have since experienced numerous issues with the radio, backup camera, and dvd player not working.recently the car now just shuts off while driving down a mountain road, power steering freezes and brakes are very limited which was very scary.it happened earlier in the year when pulling out of a parking lot and leaving the driveway and i thought that the issue was behind us and our mechanic couldn't replicate it.when i called the dealership they didn't know anything about it and weren't aware of any recalls.as of today i contacted vw and they said that our van ignition switch was previously repaired as part of the recall and it is now outside of the warranty period.i understand that the warranty can't last forever, but this is now occurring frequently 4 more times in the last few days, normally just after starting the vehicle and driving taking off for the first time.it restarts when put in park, but the starting process cranks more than usual.depending on the situation it is merely an annoyance or extremely dangerous and there is no warning, just turns off and the steering stiffness is the first indication.the van is now parked as it is not safe for my family to drive.
There are two issues that keep occurring that may or may not be related. First, sometimes when i start the vehicle every single light on the dash will be lit up, the wipers will be on, the radio won't work, and none of the gauges will be working. I have to use my gps just to know what my speed is since the spedometer doesn't work. I also can't turn on my defrost when this happens so i'm stuck sitting in the parking lot waiting. Eventually it will randomly switch back to normal and then everything works. My second issue is that i will lose all power while driving. This happened in a roundabout once which almost caused a crash! i lose ignition, power steering, everything. I have to get to the side of the road, put it in park, and turn the ignition off and back on again. One of these days this is going to cause a crash and then i will be suing volkswagen when my babies get injured because of this. From the looks of the other complaints this is happening to a lot of these vans!
Driving down the road and all the lights will start blinking and vehicle will turn completely off. No brakes or power steering when this takes place.unable to drive being pregnant and having 3 young children and do not fill safe since this happened going down hill in a turn.

Your site wouldn't allow pull-down for affected parts earlier, here is part of the e-mail report i first sent dealer 5/6/14:" ..something new is a problem w/my routan but i want to check in prior to making an appt. Since we so recently had it in for diagnostic check up.here's what's happeningit's very scary: 6 times now over the last 2 weeks it's just conked-out/shut off while i'm driving, leaving me with no steering, brakes or anything! fortunately it's happened in low traffic areas on fairly straight roads so i've been able to coast to the side, but i'm getting scared to drive my van. Yesterday- it conked out three times...bringing kids home from school-- again very scary, and once on a turn which was difficult but luckily no one was behind me...these events... All happened at low speed 15-30 mph and happen so quietly i can barely tell it's happened... It's like the key/ignition somehow flicks all by itself into the acc position.then i have to wait til the van stops, turn the key and van all the way off and re-start.then it seems to start up fine.but this happened three times just yesterday p.m....it's dangerous, and i'm getting more and more scared to drive my van, but i have to with four kids and activities."today 6/30/14 (again) dealer found no problem. Cost to replace switch $989.00.i researched delphi, china, austin martin and fully believe a commonality withgm recall exists. The routan is a vw & chrysler complicating my research. I've followed hierarchy-dealer, vw, now nhtsa but hit a road block(no pun). Please investigate this asap. Update6/30- gm recalled 8m more as "unintended key ignition rotation"-exactly what's happening with my routan. I tried submitting this complaint earlier- but your website wouldn't allow. So this is not someone jumping on the bandwagon. This is real, please help.
Our routan has "started itself" multiple times. In each instance, without intentionally starting the ignition (keys were in purse/handbag untouched by human hands), we have found the vehicle on and idling. Most recently, we happened (fortuitously) to find the vehicle running in our enclosed garage. The garage is attached to our home and we felt, given the potential for accidental death if not discovered in a timely fashion, we needed to alert authorities of the (either) design flaw or electrical system malfunction.while electrical system malfunction is certainly a strong possibility (we have had multiple problems with it in this vehicle), even if the remote ignition key were "functional" we feel the lack of barriers to accidentally starting the vehicle is extremely dangerous. For instance, if the keys are in a purse and simply moving the purse is enough to start the vehicle, even though the key "worked", it is far too easy to accidentally start the vehicle. This is what has occurred in each instance (keys in a purse, no hands directly touching the keys). A safer design might involve a code to be punched in vs simply pressing one button. Given that many families keep their vehicle in an attached, enclosed garage, accidentally running the vehicle could be deadly if carbon monoxide were to build up and enter the home.
I have experienced mechanical defects with the power sliding door feature on both sides of the 2009 vw routan se.the defect has been repaired a total of four times since its purchase, twice before the nhtsa safety recall on the power sliding doors and twice after the recall.the defective power sliding doors have unlatched and opened while driving the vehicle, even after the power locks activate.in addition, the sensors on the power sliding doors have failed to retract, resulting in hands being trapped.lastly, i have found the power sliding doors open upon return to the vehicle after closing and locking it.i have expressed my concerns to vw's local service department and have contacted vw's customer care department.i was informed that as long as this defect can be repaired they would not administer a refund or replacement.i am very concerned about the safety of this vehicle and feel it poses a risk to my two small children.

Oil consumption since 24000 miles. Vw dealer never want to address the problem. Keep tell me this normal. Now i have to add quarter oil every month. On morning car wasn't starting and took to the dealer and hadthe ignition replaced at 42000 miles but now the key get stuck on ignition multiple times. I hope the recall will fix this problem. I had to replace brakes at 12000 miles due the vibration while brakes. I had multiples electrical problems and some was repair after couple trips to the dealer. This car is a lemon. When we will have our money back?
I recently purchased this van and had a recall performed for the ignition, at the time i was their is was brought to my attention that there was also a recall for the wiring harness on the sliding doors.they noticed a wire broken apart on the driver side sliding door. Vw service was going to fix the problem as a recall then they noticed it had already been closed.however the service adviser told me it might be a mistake because he could not tell where it had been done and suggested i call the customer care number for vw which i did. I was told that the recall was done however they would not tell me the exact date or location the service was performed.this was a safety recall because the wires would break and cause a fire. I have twin daughters i am worried for their safety in this vehicle, i would like to know if their is anything that can be done in this situation and if i have a rights since vw can not prove the recall was performed.i am worried for the safety of myself and others and ask for a prompt response to this matter.thank you
My electrical system went out on my minivan and i was not notified that it had a recall on it. My van will not start. I have 2 children that i have to get around to school and sport activities, doctors appointments, ect. I have so much trouble with this van since i bought it. With all the recalls, computer failure and the coolant leak into the inside of the van, the interior coming down, and now the electrical system failing now. I have no car to get me kids anyway now. Please help me.
I just purchased the 2009 volkswagen routan. I have had it 3 weeks it randomly died when test driving the van and all the alarms and lights came on. We just thought i didn't have the fob in right. Then it started to randomly not start, even the remote start will not work. The lights, radio, alarm, windows and door locks work like they normally should. Usually if i wait like 20 minutes and keep trying the key (taking it out of the ignition and reinserting it) until it starts. The check engine light came on for 7 days. Thursday 10/10/2019 nothing worked let it sit overnight and still nothing tried to jump it and it finally started. Took to place i purchased jd byrider in janesville, wi and they believe it was the starter because it was not turning and it was replaced on 10/11/2019. Then 2 hours later the car again would not start again. The dealer came to rescue me and we tried the actual key and at first it didn't work, we pushed the gas and it as as the gas pedal got stuck for about 30 seconds but started. Then driving down route 26 from johnson creek, wi to janesville, wi, it was making squeaking noises from the engine. We could hear it through the heating vents. Then the tire pressure warning light came on and it kept dinging. When i got to janesville, i checked the tire pressure on all the tires and it was fine. Because i live in rockford, il, i drove down i90 and the car at times started shaking like it was going died. Again, today it won't start not even with an actual key. Also, the driver side passenger door lock is not working and had to have a part ordered. The vehicle has 129,000 miles.

The repair for nhtsa campaign number: 15v194000 (electrical system) was performed. Since the repair, the vehicle experienced the stalling failure, and the fob was replaced twice. The dealer was contacted. The dealer advised that the electrical system might need to be rewired. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate faiure mileage was 90,000.

Power sliding doors actuate on own, without warning, both open and close with no regard to humans or object in the path.door handles chrome delamination causing severe cuts.power third row seating motor/frame failure causing seats mounting points to be unsecured.dealer and vw of america unwilling to correct safety issues without large financial compensation.
2009 volkswagen routan. 1) normal vehicle, 22000 miles, put away in attached garage at night. Bedrooms above garage. 2) before going to bed i checked to be sure garage door was closed. I found vehicle in garage running. 3) vehicle has remote start key. Key should only activate pushing firstdoor lock buttonand then remote start button twice. Checking system i found only pushing remote start button will start the vehicle unlocked. This is a possible deadly incident as carbon monoxide would undoubtedly have killed my whole family as we slept had i not been thorough in checking the garage door. A child could push the bottom or it can be pushed inadvertently in a pocket or if something were set on it. I know this now we are safe but other people are bound to encounter this incident.
Five times in the past 6 months the power in the van basically turns off. The steering becomes next to impossible and the brakes become extremely tight to the point you can't even use them. It is terrifying to have zero control over your car considering i have 4 children. It has happened while i was going only 30mph and also when i was going 45 mph. It happens when i'm going straight and has also happened while turning. Since the latest issue i refuse to drive anywhere that i can't take back roads to.
The car does not start after a stop. It takes hours before it restarts. Replaced battery, starter still same issue. Many other vw routan owners have the same issue. The car has power but something is messed up in this car.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v194000 (electrical system). The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair as the recall notice was received over a year ago. Volkswagen lee's summit (2225 ne independence ave, lee's summit, mo 64064, (816) 282-0022) was contacted and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy; however, an appointment was scheduled to have the vehicle diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted several times and was unable to confirm when the parts were to become available. While driving various speeds, the vehicle seized and all the warning indicators illuminated.after several hours, the vehicle resumed normal operation when it was restarted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the alternator needed to be replaced. The alternator was replaced for the second time by the independent mechanic. The failure mileage was approximately 129,631. Parts distribution disconnect.
We have had several occasions where the van completely shuts off even while running. Reported it to our local vw dealer and have been told that it might be an ignition problem which is part of a recall. Was informed that at this time they can't repair it because they don't make that part.had it completely shut down on us while it was getting serviced at the dealer for new brakes. Was told that all it needed was new battery. Paid for it and got it to start only to shut down again two days later.took it back again and was told that it is not the recall its something else thats causing for the car to shut off. Now the dealer said that they will pay for the part but we pay for labor and we have 7 days to agree. They need to fix this ongoing problem. We are now carrying around $175 jumper to start it when it shuts off. Have had to sign up for tow assistance program just in case my family is stranded.
I driving last month 47 mph and my driving sliding door open and my 8 years girls was dear and she scare when the door open when i driving ,, and when i stop the door not want to close automatic..that scare me and my wife... The other concern is my transmision hard shiffting ,hard shiffting , i ready take like 5,6 time my van to check my transmission and my sliding door and the say is normal , and my sliding door not found anytime , they say the sliding door recall was done ready,, the other big concern is the gas mileage, only 11 or 12 gallon for miles they did a lot test and not found nothing ,,is poss to 16 mph for gallon and never have that,,.... Thanks.
My wife was driving our van when she pulled out onto the main road from our driveway when the vehicle lost all power, including power steering and brakes. Fortunately there was no accident but she did have to stop the vehicle and cycle the keyswitch to restart the vehicle. I have contacted the closest dealer to have this known recall fixed on our van only to be told they have to witness this event happening. Though this has happened 3 times since we bought the car used 3 months ago it is a very intermittent issue. The dealer is about an hour and a half from our house which makes it a 3 hour round trip and a day off from work. I don't mind taking a couple of days off to get this problems solved but the service manager told me some of these vans have not been repaired for 4 months because they cannot duplicate the problem. Whatever happened to the customer is always right? needless to say this is a safety issue and a huge liability. I did contact volkswagen customer care and they told me the dealer should replace the part and it does not have to be witnessed by their personnel. With that information in an e-mail i once again contacted the dealer and they basically told me vw customer care was wrong and they would have to duplicate the problem in their shop. I am very frustrated with this whole process. It is a known problem...shouldn't they fix it before harm or even death comes to my loved ones? the dealer is lithia vw (phone (541) 774-7500) in medford ,oregon and the service personnel i talked with was named [xxx]. I do have the e-mail from vw customer care and that came from a representative named [xxx]. I would appreciate any help in this matter. Thank you! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I take my vw routan to finish the recall .becaused my door open when i was driving from georgia to florida with my 2 daughter in the back seat and driver rear slide door open at 70 miles..vw dealer talk me no have the parts but they fixed and when i take to different dealer they talk me they ready did the recall and replaced the harness.. Thursday my wife driving and has the same problem door open when she driving.. Take the mini van to shop and they talk me dealer never did the recall... I alway have the mini van and no one touch dear before...
My drivers side back seatdoor will not close all the way and will open back up if it does not latch correctly. The engine wiring will make my cars dash lights all come on and make the wipers go off. The door only does this while stationary however, the dash lights go off while in motion on a regular street going less than 40mph
For years i have experienced intermittent failures in starting my car, each time if i wait a while it will start. Additionally, beginning in feb 2016, my engine will simply shut down while the car is in motion (pretty scary).i have dealt with vw several time to no avail and always at my expense.this latest development may cost me or someone else their life.vw acts like this has not happened to anyone else and if they can't recreate the issue they can't address the issue, really!this is criminal!i have had a starter replaced as well as a switch and no change.all i get from vw is "you can take it to another dealer and get a second opinion we will cover 1 hour of the cost to diagnose the problem"really no greater expertise no information sharing, just another dealer, the third of which will likely tell me, we can't create the problem!
My son got in his seat in the van and i got in drivers seat i pushed power door button on ceiling and heard door closing i thought it closed all the way but had power failure and stopped halfway. I started van and started to go, there was no alarm or anything to inform me his door was still half open. Luckily my son is 5 and told me his door was open so i stopped and button did nothing i got out and button on inside of his door did nothing i than manually closed door.this is very unsafe if a child wasn't buckled or unbuckled themselves they could fall out.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle was involved in an electrical fire. The contact stated that smoke entered into the cabin of the vehicle and the rear passenger side door caught fire. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. A mechanic extinguished the fire. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000.
Engine shut off while driving, steering column locked and power braking lost. Lighting and radio were still on.was barely able to vehicle to a stop by pushing extremely hard on the brake, brakes were very unresponsive. Once stopped, was able to turn ignition off and restart vehicle.
Vehicle continues to shut down while driving without warning.vehicle must either be stopped and restarted or placed in neutral while coasting to restart.
The vehicle has a new battery which is correctly installed and free of corrosion. When the key fob is placed into the ignition and moved forward, the vehicle will not start. The dash lights come on, and it should start, but it does not. If you keep trying, or walk away and come back after a few minutes and try again, it does sometimes start. This intermittent problem seams to have no rhyme or reason and i am concerned the vehicle might stop while my wife or i drive it. This generally happens 4 to 5 times a month.any help would be appreciated.

We have a 2009 vw routan sel that has stalled multiple times now (4-5) while driving.there is no warning and car loses power.car starts up immediately after putting in park and restarting.this seems to be common problem and there is a recall for the 2010 model as well as the chrysler minivan which this car is based from.
Our 2009 routan randomly loses power and the engine attempts to turn off while driving. This has happened at least five times in the past year. Our routan is part of the ignition switch recall, which should fix this problem, yet more than six months after this potentially deadly recall was issued, volkswagen has not officially issued a repair, so our dealership will not repair. We have contacted volkswagen directly, and all we have been told is "we are still waiting for more information." considering volkswagen issued this same recall on the 2010 routan more than three years ago and should be familiar with the repair, i find this unacceptable. It is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
While driving on 4 different occasions over the last week the engine shuts off without warning. Once while turning left across traffic. The van stopped right in the middle of the turn and was started just in time and started moving as oncoming car also swerved to avoid my car stalled right in front of them. Dealer has no idea what is causing the problem and can only guess that the win module needs to be replaced. There is a recall on the win module for 2010, but not for 2009.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While driving60 mph, the contact detected a burning odor without warning. In addition, the contact observed smoke outside and inside the vehicle. The contact stated that the instrument panel, headlights, and radio failed to work. The contact was able to pull the vehicle over, opened the hood, and saw no sign of a fire. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wire from the ignition switch to the starter had failed (burned) and needed to be replaced. Also, the power steering line failed and leaked. The independent mechanic stated that there were so many electrical failures with the vehicle and recommended her to contact nhtsa. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v194000 and 14v396000 (electrical system: ignition switch). The failure mileage was 145,000.
Vehicle will intermittently not start even after multiple try's. Vehicle shuts off during driving events city and highway.abs lights come on and stay on. Interior lights come on automatically during driving. Have had the vehicle to a vw dealer 4 times for this issue and they cannot diagnoses, nor remedy the issue. I have spent well over $2,000 for these vw dealer visits. This vehicle was built by chrysler for vw and chrysler issued a recall on the tipm for the chrysler vehicles. Vw refuses to issue a recall for the tipm.this is a major safety issue that causes the vehicle to shut off during driving and all power and braking functions are lost.at this time, i have no choice but to pay an additional $1,500 to have vw replace the tipm in the hopes that it resolves this dangerous safety issue and keeps my family safe. Nhtsa must investigate this issue with chrysler and realize that it applies to vw routan vehicles built by them as well, and force vw to recall the vehicles and fix the issue at their cost and provide full reimbursement to all routan owners who have this same safety issue. What actions are nhtsa taking on this critical safety issue?
While driving, engine shut off like the ignition was turned off - lost power steering and brakes.this has happened multiple times since incident date.volkswagen service could not diagnose the problem.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vin was included under nhtsa campaign number: 14v396000 (electrical system) but the part was not available. The contact felt the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,000.
My 2009 volkswagen routan dies while driving.i've on the vehicle for two years and this has been happening the whole time.that usually happens at lower speeds (under 35mph). It happens when i'm going straight and when i'm turning corners, going over or no bumps at all. When my car dies i lose steering, all power/electrical.i have taken it to volkswagen three times for this issue.the first time it was serviced for a recall fix.the problem continued so i took it back and was informed of a second recallfor the same issue.so i had it serviced for the second recall fix.the problem continued so i take it back a third time.volkswagen service department kept my car for over two weeks and then told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it.the problem has continued and seems to be happening more frequently.
All warning/service lights on the dash panel light up, sound alarms, and blink. The speedometer, fuel gauge, tachometer all go to "0" so i am unaware of my speed. Blinkers and emergency flashers do not work.this first happened right after we purchased the vehicle, and they repaired something to where it worked for about 3 months. Then it has been happening more frequently since then. The lights all turning on will happen about once a week now. I called the dealership and they said it's probably related to the recall currently in place for my vehicle, that they don't have a fix for. Of which, my car has been effected by the ignition switch recall as my car has turned off at random times going 35+ mph. This recall has been in effect since july 2014 and there is not yet a remedy. I have 3 young kids that i have with me all of the time and i am afraid to driving on the hwy since this often happens at those times.
My wife (and 8 month old son) were driving when the van suddenly shut off.my wife was driving approximately 55 mph.she was able to get the van off the road before the steering wheel locked up.she was able to restart the van.she was able to avoid a rear-end collision with a tractor-trailer that was behind her.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact received a notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v396000 (electrical system) and stated that the part needed was unavailable to perform the recall repair. I bought a certified pre-owned 2009 routan. After about a year, the car randomly will not start, it just clicks but will not start. Replaced battery. Still - car will not start. This has been going on for 3 years. Had starter & alternator checked - both good.had the ignition recall done and problem resolved itself for about 3 months - now it started doing this again - randomly will not start.hubby moved a wire under the hood and magically the car started.got home and van will not start!after spending $5,200 on a new transmission - i hate to put any more $$ into this van. Has anyone found a fix for this problem - i've seen many have this same issue. Talked to a lady at vw repair shop who has been in excess of $3,000 trying to fix this exact same problem.still keeps happening.help!
When i'm driving all the lights will turn on on the dash board then turn off and my windshield wipers will turn in the process when all the lights turn on while i'm driving the van will say i'm going 0 miles per hour
For several months in 2018 our 2009 volkswagen routan would not start, windows would not work correctly, etc. On november 10th, 2018, our 2009 volkswagen routan was stationary and would not start at all. Called a tow truck to have it taken to the nearest dealership. Tow truck driver messed with the vehicle and was able to start it and we drove it to the dealership. The dealership received our vehicle on 11/10/18. The dealership notified us that there is an open recall on the "win module" and they would contact volkswagen for the replacement parts. The dealership did not receive the part until 11/15/18 and the part was used/programmed for a different vehicle therefore it was unable to be installed in our vehicle. The dealership then provided us with a loaner vehicle and contacted volkswagen for yet another unused part. It is now 11/28/18 and we still do not have our vehicle. The part was received and installed however the vehicle's battery will no longer hold a charge. The dealership wants to put a new battery in the vehicle and we will have to pay $150.00 for the battery and installation. We never received notice of this recall. My husband lost 2 days of pay. We had to rely on 3 different people to get my husband to and from work. I am disabled and had surgery on 10/23/18 and unable to get to physical therapy let alone leave the house for a week because the dealership didn't have any available loaner vehicles until 11/15/18. This has been a danger to my family/children and a great inconvenience. Today 11/28/18 i am calling the actual volkswagen customer service to report their negligence and the grief/expense they have caused my family. We purchased this vehicle because of volkswagens reliability standards but we will now never purchase from their company again. As of today 11/28/18 we still do not have our vehicle returned!

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who was not able to replicate nor diagnose the failure multiple times. The authorized dealer replaced the starter and hose but the failure still recurred. The vehicle continued to stall intermittently. The contact had to put the vehicle in neutral and then park to get the vehicle to start. The vehicle was taken to a volkswagen specialist who diagnosed that the egr valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the failure recurred. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 11v151000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 66,000.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the sliding door wiring failed for both sliding doors. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who inspected the vehicle and recommended that it needed to be taken to the dealer for diagnosis and repair. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that electrical wiring for both sliding doors needed to be replaced as well as a fractured wiring harness needed to be replaced. The dealer mentioned that the vehicle was repaired for nhtsa campaign number: 10v252000 (electrical system) on october 15, 2010. The contact stated that the recall remedy failed to prevent the failure from occurring. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
I was driving my 2009 routan this morning (8/6/18) in a round-a-bout when out of blumy steering and brakes completely locked up and my abs light came on.i had traffic behind me.i almost went over the curb and caused an accident due to this happening.i praise god that i and everyone around was safe.my vehicle has already had the ignition ssswitch replaced twice.i had it checked for codes and nothing came up.i noticed a huge amount of complaints regarrding this. What is it going to take to get this fixed?there are lives on the line.when a vehicle shuts down on the highway that will cause a major accident.is volkswagen and nhtsa willing to live with that knowing that this has been a major issue with this vehicle for some time?how many injuries or deaths do you need to prove to you that this is a safety issue?
Van was traveling 65mph on interstate when the car switched from on to accessory mode.vw service indicated that the incident was caused by a faulty win (wireless ignition node module).when the car switched to accessory mode, i lost power to the engine and i had no anti-lock brakes or power steering.i was able to coast the van to the side of the road without an accident.this exact issue has been reported in several 2009 routans and was already subject to a recallfor the 2010 routan's.it also impacts the grand caravans and town & country's, which share a platform with the routan.given the high likelihood that this sudden engine shutoff can lead to an accident, i am surprised that volkswagen has not been required to expand the win module recall to include the 2009 models.i am also extremely frustrated with volkswagen's response, which was to disclaim any legal responsibility for repair (since it was outside of the warranty period).this is a known defect and should be addressed accordingly.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v194000 (electrical system). The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The dealer and manufacturer were notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
As of january 2017 i have had the repeated issue of the car not starting when turned on.note the recall on the ignition was done by the vw dealer previously.the car not starting at first occurred once and awhile.then became more consistent, i replaced the starter in march 2017 thinking that would resolve the issue. Since then the problem keeps occurring.vw dealer has no idea what the issue is and wants me to replace the starter again.i've researched this mechanical problem and found out a lot of people are having the same issue.there's a click when you attempt to start the car and this is after the battery and starter has been replaced.the longest i've waited for the car to start isabout 30 minutes.i attempt to start it a few minutes are sitting in the car, sometimes it takes one try sometimes it takes 20 tries then the car will start up.i've reported this to vw care and they advised me to get the starter replaced again, spending more money.this is not a customer care issue, this is on the vw company.
I have received a recall letter dated august 2014 because of a faulty ignition switch. Nhtsa 14v-369. There is still no solution being offered by the manufacturer and i am driving my family around with a dangerous ignition problem that has killed many passengers. I do not have anything attached to the key, which presumably helps, but i would like my car to be safe.i don't understand why vw is allowed to procrastinate this way.if they cannot fix the problem they should be replacing my car with an alternative vehicle.

My wife and two daughters were driving in our 2009 routan today.my wife smelled smoke and noticed smoke emanating from our right side sliding door.my wife pulled off quickly into a gas station where the attendant extinguished the fire.the fire caused the window to explode; the interior of the vehicle was filled with smoke within minutes of exiting the car.fire crew came to inspect the vehicle.we have had issues with this sliding door not closing properly (electronically) and have asked the dealership to fix this issue with our right sliding door on two different occasions.upon investigation, i noticed a recall for 2009 routans issued on friday.my wife and daughters were very fortunate that they were able to pull off the road quickly, others may not be so fortunate.this recall needs to be taken seriously, and expedited!the vehicle is with the dealer.i will provide an update on how they corrected the issue.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the vehicle stalled with an unknown warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred after the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 15v194000 (electrical system). The vehicle was towed to volkswagen of macon located at 4786 riverside dr, macon, ga 31210, (478)781-7701, to be diagnosed. The mechanic was unable to start the vehicle. The contact stated that the mechanic was unable to retrieve any information from the computers in the vehicle. The contact was informed that the part needed to repair the vehicle was on back order. The contact stated that the tow truck operator provided a diagnostic test and informed the contact that the ignition switch module needed to be replaced. The ignition switch module was replaced however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 124,000.

The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 34,031.
Dealer says the win module needs to be replaced, but it could be a bus wiring issue. Dash warning lights, tachometer, speedometer and airbag lights continually turn off and on. When this happens, the windshield wipers also turn on and off. Safety issue because i cannot see how fast we are going, turn signals won't work and i don't think the airbags are on at this time as well. For a video of the issue, please see this youtube link. Another routan driver reported the same issue in this link - http://youtu.be/otntkk0kx5y. This is definitely a mfg defect because it happened 1 year ago and the dealer said it was a wiring fix.
The electronic door (side panel, passenger, and driver) door locks stopped working.at about the same time our front headlights began to intermittently go out during operation of the vehicle, and then stopped working altogether.the vehicle was submitted to the dealership and customer was informed that the headlight ballast was worn out and had to be replaced.parts were ordered and when the vehicle was taken in for said ballast replacement another mechanic stated this was not a ballast issue since the headlights appeared to turn on during ignition, but then stopped working shortly afterwards.we had to wait until the next day for a dealer electrician to look at the vehicle.the electrician determined a corroded control panel was causing a short and likely causing door the headlight, as well as other issues such as incorrect tire pressure and speed indications and possible fire.no water was introduced to the vehicle, so my question is how does a control panel corrode unless there is a faulty voltage issue and electrical design defect?the mechanic indicated the dealer gets a lot of these issues on the routan but there is no recall so they charge $900 for the replacement panel.vw knows of this issue that their own mechanics indicate can start electrical fires!the company should be investigated.
In july 2012 i bought a certified pre-owned 2009 volkswagen routan minivan. I have reported the following major safety problems on several occasions to no resolve: loss of power' the car will completely lose power and the steering wheel locks while driving. For ex on 12/22 from 5:32p ' 10:48p, the car lost power and steering wheel locked 11 times. Sliding doors automatically open ' the doors will not close securely, won't open, or will appear closed and spontaneously reopen. There have been several times we will go out for the evening or come out for work in the morning and both doors are opened. At times, while driving, the door (particularly the driver side rear) will appear closed and secure however it will sound as if it has suddenly jumped off track and the door will crack open. We took the certified pre-owned vehicle to be serviced 8xs within the warranty time and we were told each time because the check engine light was not on to trigger a code that outline the problems there was nothing that could be done. We have suffered a great deal of personal and emotional stress as these are critical and highly dangerous highway safety concerns. I'm worried each time my family gets into the minivan and i continue to fulfill my contractual agreement of $320+ per month without fail however i have yet to receive the same from volkswagen.
While driving, the vehicle accelerated on its own and shook like it was about to stall when braking. The throttle lightening light intermittently came on. When parked, the engine revved exceptionally high and i had to shut it off to stop it. The engine has been replaced along with all electrical wiring and the radiator and radiator fan. The dealership has said all recalls have been repaired. Another diagnostic has not found anything wrong. The interior lights do not dim but are either on or off. The sliding doors will stop working or work partially. The throttle box is currently begin replaced as a best guess solution.

Our routan was only going about 20 mph after pulling out of parking places and turning in to main roads the power steering, brakes, gas all stop working the car becomes impossible to turn the wheel the brakes and gas both do not work and you have to coast to a stop once stopped you have put the van in park turn key off and restart the engine. This has now happened twice in a 2 week time frame extremely concerned with two young children in the back both in car seats.what happens if i am on a freeway and this happens at 60-70mph?
Have owned this vehicle for 5 months. Vehicle would not start...had been driven aprox 30 miles/cooled just would click, would restart after time given, taken to dealer no problems found, it has done this 4 more time since, is part of the recall 14v-396. Have taken it back to the dealer purchased from and vw dealership and problem cannot be duplicated therefore it cannot be repaired. It has been in the shop for two weeks and no solution found....suspect it is the ignition switch in the recall but is not throwing out any code. Vw states that they cannotreplaced because there is no code and if whin module none are available plus the recall states remedy not available. Vw rep said we could pay out of pocket, and then if later found out to be under the recall they would reimburse...which is totally a lie since there are no whin modules available and that isn't a known fix. I find it totally absurd that they really think we should be driving this vehicle since a failure may happen at anytime, speed, and may cause a crash. The fact that they do not value the lives in the vehicle is very discouraging. Have suggested they replace vehicle or pay the loan and was told thatwas doubtful.
The electronic driver side passenger door will not latch open. The door will power open then slide back shut hitting whoever or whatever is in the way. This is an intermittent problem. The van was checked by our local dealer several times over several years. This is still an issue. This has led to myself and children being hit by the door leaving bruises. It almost smashed my 2 year old daycare child's leg in the door but i intervened stopping the door prior to it hitting her. I have looked on the internet and found several other complaints also with no remedy from vw.

The vehicle does not start periodically. The vehicle will start for 2 to 3 weeks and then not start several times.if you wait for a period of time or play with the fuse box, or try different ways to start the vehicle it will start.this is an electrical problem.i have been driving and had all the dashboard lights illuminate and have beeping noises for no reason.no warning lights are illuminated and no errors are on the computer.the vehicle has a new battery and alternator. I have read online the entire tipm unit(fuse box/electrical system control unit) is defective and needs to be replaced along with the starter and fuel pump relays, which is well over $1000 worth of work, but i have not had it completed yet.others have complained about the vehicle turning off while driving, which fortunately has not happened to me yet.the vehicle has a dvd system that worked and does not work now.this should have been a recall item a long time ago, since i understand volkswagen is well aware of the issue.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would decelerate and stalled. The contact received a received a notification for recall nhtsa campaign number: 14v396000 (electrical system).the dealer stated that the parts were not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact not to drive the vehicle since the parts were not available. The failure mileage was unknown.
The car won't start intermittently. When you turn the key it just clicks. The starter is not engaged or the flywheel doesn't turn. Took it to the dealer said it was faulty tipm module needed to be replaced not covered by warranty. Google tipm routan/ chrysler / dodge / jeep and you will see this is a huge problem. Not sure why the government won't force chrysler / volkswagen (chrysler manufactured the routan for volkswagen) to recall them affected vehicles. This not covered by warranty and its a $1200 to replace. Completely ridiculous if this is such a widespread problem.
Since buying our 2009 routan in the fall of 2016 we have sunk thousands into it trying to get it fixed because of the issues we have had shortly after buying it (ours did not come with a warranty from the vw dealer).at least twice a week, and sometimes more, it stalls while we are driving...usually at low speeds like when we are slowing down to make a turn or slowing down for a stoplight.usually, all of the dashboard lights and controls will blink and ding repeatedly before stalling.it also stalls when sitting still.it will blink all of the lights, the controls will go crazy and the windshield wipers will go back and forth one time as it stalls. On dec 11 it stalled on a major road in charlotte, nc and i lost all power so i could not even put on my flashers.i have an autistic child who was freaking out because i was trying to get all of the kids to be quiet so i could call my husband as we were sitting in the middle of a busy road.we were in a middle lane and the windows were up so i had to open my door quickly and wave for people to go around us.i kept watching my rear view mirror and praying we wouldn't get hit as cars zipped around us honking.the key was stuck in the ignition since there was no power.my husband was headed towards us and i waved people around us for about 5 minutes while jingling the key and trying everything to get something to work.the power finally came back and the key came out and i was able to restart and get home but my kids are afraid to go anywhere in that van again.we have replaced the battery, the control module (one of the most expensive things we tried), the erg valve, the alternator, and some other parts our mechanic wanted to try. Super eagle auto care has been super helpful in trying to fix it but to no avail. We have learned since buying this vehicle that this is a common problem for vw routan.
Notice oil light coming on between oil change....filled oil to proper level...i took car in for service today (1/7/13) was told by dealership the gasket will need replace, that was the reason for oil usage.i just had my vehicle in to fix the sliding door (tsb recall not honored) in october and in was inspected with no problems.doing research on internet and finding the oil, door is a common problem in vw routan ( also talked to another owner was in for same problem, stated has been given runaround since day one about problems with his routan).
Randomly stalls while driving- brought to mechanic, paid almost $1000 to try to get fixed, brought back when everything paid for didn't fix & was told to report ignition switch recall to vw to get fixed. Also lost power to rear dvd within days after purchase & never knew what to do. Brake pads are bad within 3-4,000 miles- windshield washer squirter unrepairable. Biggest issue is the ignition switch though, if that what is causing van to stall - while going steady speed, usually occurs over 25 mph for more than 5 miles- van starts jerking like it's going to stall & when sitting at a stop light or sign, or parked, idling, stalls & takes multiple attempts to restart - this has been happening since i purchased my 2009 routan in 2014 when it had less than 60k miles. I have brought to mechanics that are friends & to multiple dealerships & shops to diagnose & fix & paid for everything out of pocket to get fixed or replaced & it has never fixed the problem for more than a week. For the brakes, i buy only the mid level or high level grade brakes & have had to switch both front & rear brakes, rotors & calipers out @ least 3-4 times per year since about 1 month after ownership. Every time, 1-2 brake pads were completely bad & gone while the others were about 50-70% . Another issue, that has never been able to get fixed is the a/c- after recharging, the a/c will blow cold on the drivers side front only & hot throughout the rest of the car. When heat is on, same problem, only blows heat in front & cool in back. How do i get all recalls for my minivan repaired through volkswagen? how does the process work? i have 5 small children & this is our only form of transportation. Will i be provided with a loaner that will seat my entire family while my vehicle is being repaired? please advise as i have had this minivan for over 3 years with these issues and spent thousands of dollars
Took 2009 vw routan to local dealership in 2010 due to safety recall on sliding doors (faulty wire harness). Passenger side door was fitted with tie wrap. Driver side door was inspected but no work was performed. This week, door stopped working on driver's side.took it to the dealer on wednesday and was told it would cost $383 to repair wire harness. Called vw customer care to explain problem. Was told that case would be started. Waiting to hear about solution.vehicle was supposed to be finished on thursday. Now being told it will be monday. We were given a loaner vehicle for the weekend.

My wife took our 2009 vw routan minivan to a vw dealership today to repair inoperable electronic door locks and faulty headlights (separate complain filed), at which time she was informed of an ignition problem recall. The ignition part was placed on order and my wife was told the part had to be shipped from out of state and should arrive within five days.my wife asked, and was informed the vehicle was safe to operate; however, i looked up the recall when i got home from work and discovered the recall specifically states the engine can shut of during operation due to added weight from other keys or key rings on the vw key fob.according to the recall, dealership and maintenance personnel are supposed to inform customers to remove added keys from the fob.my wife had keys on her fob which the dealer mechanic had in his hand during inspections, but the mechanic never informed her of the risk, and allowed her to jeopardize her life by driving the vehicle without the required safety information.
While driving typically at speeds less than 45 mph the vehicle engine will shut down and electrical power at the dash is lost. Vehicle will restart after it shuts down. Problem is not consistent. Dealer can not verify the complaint, therefore can not repair. Nhtsa recall 14v396 appears to be the correction for the issue. Dealer will not perform the recall until they duplicate the issue. Has been at the dealer for 6 days with no duplication of the complaint.

While driving car it turns off.has to be restarted. Faulty ignition switch. Noticed a past recall.*dt
Thank god i was not going fast. Vehicle shut down completely while driving. Was able to put in park and was able to start it back up. Apparently, the routan is manufactured by crysler and this issue also happens with the 09 town and countries as well.
I was driving approx 65 mph on a highway. Without a warning (no check engine light, no battery light, etc) my engine turned off while still cruising at 65 mph. The vehicle still had momentum, but no power steering to safely pull the vehicle over. I had to wait for the road to turn, so i can position the vehicle to stop on the shoulder of the vehicle. I almost crashed into other vehicles, because i had no control of the car other than braking in the middle lane of a highway. Towed vehicle dealer found a blown engine fuse. They replaced the engine fuse. Two hours later, same scenario and same issue came back. Towed back to the dealer, and they believe its a grounding wire. Please investigate this issue. Could potentially translate into major accident or death.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle stalled and the traction control warning light illuminated. The vehicle restarted but the failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the traction control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v396000( electrical system). The failure mileage was 78,000.
2009 volkswagen routan.consumer writes in regards to ignition switch recall repairs.the consumer stated the dealer had his vehicle for two weeks to perform the ignition recall. However, on june 15, 2015, the problem returned, when the vehicle stalled while driving.
Even after rebuilding the entire transmission, every time the vehicle is placed into reverse, there is a pause, then a jarring as it slips into r gear; but every time acceleration is attempted in r, there is a delay, followed by consistent lag; if attempting to r up an incline, if speed is not already over a specific minimum, vehicle then assumes action as if it is in n. Even an incline slope of simply backing into a driveway, if vehicle is not entirely across the incline, it's not possible to continue controlling a reverse movement, though engine responds as though in n. This has been an ongoing issue; that has persisted even after rebuilding the transmission. Another issue that began several years ago; is that the door's locking mechanisms for several of the doors, no longer operate properly. Locking via key fob, or door panel, does not actually engage the door to lock. Nor does unlocking the doors via key fob, or door panels.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 10v252000 (electrical system). The vehicle was remedied under the recall. The contact stated that the remedy was inadequate and did not remedy the issue. The wiring harness failed and the wiring became stuck in the sliding door. As a result, the door would open while the vehicle was being driven. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure; however, no solution was provided. The failure mileage was 59,000.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v396000 (electrical system); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
Completely lost control of the vehicle (no power, no power steering) while driving 45mph on a 7 lane major street. Thankfully it was in the early morning hours and i was able to glide across the intersection to a side street where i turned the vehicle off and on and it resumed power. This has happened at least 4 more times since then, usually while idling at a red light.
The tipm module went out, causing all instruments to go to zero, all indicators to light up, the warning tone sounded, the wipers started of their own accord, and other craziness related to the computer system. The vehicle was moving at the time; parking, turning off the engine and back on, adjusting speed -- nothing made a difference.since volkswagen routans are just rebadged chrysler town and countries, the tipm issue is just as much of a problem on routans as it was on dodge, chrysler, and jeep vehicles.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the electrical system was faulty. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was unknown.
Driving approximately 25mph when the one month old vehicle just suddenly felt like someone slammed on the brakes. The vehicle came to a halt. The motor was still running. I got in the car again to move it out of the way and the same thing occurred. Immediately had it towed to the volkswagen dealership.there it stayed for 13 days. The following problems were repaired/replace: faulty transmission sensor, replaced sensor. Also, abs steering angle sensor erratic performance. Faulty steering angle sensor. Replaced sensor.
Sliding door locks making very loud vibrating noise when locked and fit the description of recall 10v252000 by vw for 2009 routans made in windsor canada during the second half of 2008. Says that car could catch fire but vw saus that my vin is not included some how.
While driving on street or highway or stopped. Usually around 20-40mphcar stalls. Brakes lock up/steering wheel locks up/no control of car at all. All lights indicate car is on, one bell goes off prior and anti-skid light comes on.by then panic cannot control car!put car in park after stopped and it starts right up.
The car will not start at times and make clicking sounds. This vehicle has been doing that for quite some time (at 80,000 miles) it is now 106,000 miles. I have taken it just about everywhere and done just about everything. No one can figure out what's wrong with it. I have changed the recall (win module), new starter,
Van on multiple occasions will not start.when you turn the key you just get a click... This has been going on for 5 months (the whole time i have had this van) some days you try to start it, it wont start.then you try again and it may start.yesterday the van had to be trailered to a dealership...because yet again it will not start.not the battery or alternator.we beleive it is a faulty ignition switch.
Engine will not start.happens on occasion but happened enough that i had two starters installed as well as a battery.what else could it be? can turn the key and nothing happens.i can possibly sit there and turn the ignition 10+ times and still nothing.thought it could be a bad spot in the new starter??cleaned battery posts often and now have treated the connections.would like not to receive another call from lovely wife that the van would not start.has to be something with a circuit staying open or something.safety issue due to not knowing if your car is going to start when you arrive to a destination.issue has been going on for 2+ years and van has 100k miles last instance of issue: 23 june 2017
On the said date, i was driving my car when i heard a loud noise coming from the ignition area and the car suddenly and unexpectedly stalled, i was able to restart the car right away. A month later, i heard the same noise and the car stalled again, while i was in the middle of a very busy intersection. In august of 2014, i had received a recall from vw informing me of a recall ( nhtsa 14v-396), i took my car to the dealer who has not been able to fix the issue, in november, parts are still not available for the repairs to be performed. I spoke to the regional case manager at vw who won't do anything either.vw is letting me drive an unreliable and unsafe vehicle.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. When the vehicle was started, all the warning indicators illuminated and the windshield wipers activated and did not stop. The dealer was contacted at 800-822-8987 and stated that an unknown recall repair was performed a couple of years ago to repair the wiring on the door. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the recall repair was performed in 2013. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
My key has been sticking in the ignition intermittently.usually i have to turn the car back on turn the wheel, put it in gear and back in park, one or both of those things usually frees the key from the acc mode and allows me to remove it from the ignition. Today, i went to start the van and it is dead. Click. That is all it does.it does not appear the battery is dead, as the headlights and interior lights come on, the door dings, the mileage comes up, etc. There is a recall for something involving the ignition, but i have not been informed by vw yet as to a repair.i have sent in four prior complaints concerning this vehicle.i bought it used 7/2010 from carmax. It is unreliable and dangerous to have on the road.the entire brake system needs repaired every 7,000 miles following a sudden caliper seize, the van has numerous electrical issues that cause the car to just stop.one day i heard it running in my garage.i cant rule out one of my children messing with the fob, however, i have difficulty with the remote starter myself? (click2x&hold)i do not feel safe with this vehicle.i will not drive my children long distances or travel roads with them that require speeds over 40 mph.the van died while i was driving it 55-60mph on a busy highway, the vw dealership said it was not a recall issue.i clearly see it is a recall issue for some routans, my receipt reads exactly as the side door harness recall is stated.i will be working with vw to request reimbursement, however, i don't feel that is good enough.there is a major problem here. I am lucky myself or my children have not been hurt.in hindsight of the gm ignition recall, i would be amiss to think a car company has my best interest in mind.i am hoping my government does.
My 2009 routan 3.8l will intermit not start / i get check engine light and electrical lightening bolt. About 3 years ago it started and i was told it was my battery. Replaced my battery it was good for about 1yr then it started again had the battery replaced again then about 1yr later it started again but my battery is tested good.i went through 2 batteries in about 3 yrs. I even had my starter checked and it tested good. My friend who is a mechanic said why is the starter next to the exhaust manifold it is getting hot. When i have issue in the last year it take about 30min or longer before it starts then i might not have any issues for about 1 or 2 weeks and sometime i might have the issues 2 times in one day. I have checked online and i am seeing many people are complaining about the 2009 vw routan intermit not starting. I have call vw and my van is not on the list for the ignition switch recall. Today 8/5/2014 my routan i will not start at all i am going to have the battery checked.
When slowing down to turn into the parking lot at the local library the vehicle stalled and lost power.after coming to a stop the van would start fine and was able to finish the trip.a few days later this same issue occurred while coming to a stop.we returned the car to dealership for work on a faulty radio and mentioned this issue.the dealership had the radio replaced and took it to a vw dealership to have the ignition switch replaced under a safety recall.it worked fine for about a week then started happening again.the van was taken in for an oil change at an independent shop and they checked about the stalling issue.they could not find any codes indicating a problem, but after the oil change the van worked better for a few days.it now stalls multiple times per day, usually going less than 30 mph.on sept 19, 2015 the van stalled while accelerating on to the entrance ramp of the highway.the speed was about 45mph.
The vehicle while driving had all the warning lights come on , the gauges go up and down and the vehicle cut off. This happened multiple times one afternoon. Had to have it towed to the house. Internet search shows that this is a routine problem for others as well.

Had the win module replaced for the electrical system ignition switch recall.now the car will make sudden stops and shut down. Car then will not start up unless the battery is unhooked and hooked back up. Dealer wants to charge 350.00 to do a diagnostic test to determine the cause.
Where to begin with this car. All 4 valve stems needed to be replaced. I was losing pressure in my tires, and mechanic said they were corroded. Then my tiptronicsdid not work, also when you shifted in to gear, it didn't want to move. Had the whole shifting lever componentreplaced. Lots of trouble with the doors not opening right, then when closing the sensor doesn't always work. Almost had my kids get caught in the door. If the car is even on the slightest slope the door won't close. While driving down the road at 55mph the car just shut off. No power steering! very dangerous. I had to rent a car to go on vacation, i didn't feel safe enough to drive on the interstate with it. Happened may times. They couldn't find anything wrong with it. Now i think the transmission is going. I am so frustrated with this car!
I received a safety recall letter in 08/2014 for my car 2009 vw routan. This is the defective ignition switch issue that has been in the news for months. The letter says parts are not available and j will be contacted when they are available. It has been over two months since the letter and they still have not contacted us for the repair. I have four children and my wife. This is the only car we have so we must use it. I have nothing else in my key- nothing of any weight. However i feel that it is unsafe for me to be driving this car around and that vw / chrysler are dragging their feet on these repairs.
While driving at various speed the car suddenly shuts off and loses power steering.this has occurred 4 times now and is extremely dangerous.car can only be restarted when at a complete stop and placed back in park.

Re: sliding door wiring harness.defective extrusion coating on cooper wires, which is a non-malleable coating prone to cracking and breaking.causes failure in electrical system, disabling electronics in the door and potential grounding of voltage.the undesired result is an improperly locked door that can be jarred open and is not properly secured will rattle when driving.
Our 2009 vw routan completely shuts down while driving 3 times now.not only does it shut down, but the steering and brakes lock as well.on the last occurrence, my wife (with our children in the car) came very close to hitting a parked car in the street.we have taken it to 2 vw dealers so far in charlotte, nc and they state: "we cannot duplicate the issue." unfortunately, that is not the right answer when you have something as dangerous as this happening to our family car.we have called vw corporate to help 2nd dealership with a resolution, but nothing has been fixed at this time.we are not sure what do at this point, and seems like both vw and vw dealerships are aware of issue, but no one wants to touch it!please help!
I've had the vw routan since 2010 - purchased it with 6,000 miles on it. It's a sel so it's auto-everything. In the past 12-16 months both the left and right passenger auto doors stopped working due to a wiring issue. (2 separate incidents; $300 each repair). Today, my left passenger auto door stopped working again. The vehicle sees normal usage and has not been in an accident.
There are so many complaints for the same thing yet vw refuses to admit it is a problem. My electrical will shut off completely. I will normally loose anything electrical, throttle, sometimes power steering. Then the electrical comes back on and all the lights on the dashboard cluster come on. It will continually do this, even when you are on the freeway. They are going to continue to deny this until somebody is killed or severely injured due to this malfunction. I bought my 2009 vw routan used and the service department is dodging replacing the tpim/ignition switch, probably because it is expensive. Vw should also take responsibility for this since it is hazardous to drive. Please if you are reading this and have a vw routan with this issue, make a report and bring this to light.

While driving in jacksonville florida on highway, wipers suddenly came on, all idiot lights began to blink, headlights began flashing off and on, beeping sound like when door is open, the van suddenly died and i was unable to brake, steer or control vehicle.the van was towed to vw dealershipthe problem was found to be the sliding door harness which was interfering with normal operation of the electrical system.replaced sliding door harness and failed battery.when i questioned the faulty part possibly being a recall issue i was told it was not.cost=$624.48 + rental car.*it is important to note here that i had just crossed over a very long large bridge.if i had been going uphill when the van suddenly died i am certain i would have caused an accident inflicting injury or possibly death to either myself or another motorist, as there is no shoulder on the bridge and i was traveling at 55-60mph.i could not control the vehicle.this is clearly an issue with these mini vans.thank god i was traveling to work and did not have my children in the van as i waited 2&1/2 hours for a tow.

*sometimes the vehicle will not start for no apparent reason.vw service dept. A pc won't save a file, either if the power supply is interrupted before it can do so..tipm malfunctions can also cause all other issues i have experienced. Upon getting a second opinion from transmission specialists, they said only the solenoid was faulty. They also confirmed that a faulty tipm box will cause solenoid issues and eventually ruin the new one, too. *recently, all locks stopped working & the vehicle can only be opened & locked manually. At the same time all interior lights were on and had to be turned off at the dashboard- this would have drained the battery had it happened on a work day. Vw has had the vehicle for 2 full days and yet doesn't know what's wrong with it. We have had these issues and useless repairs for over 2 years. The ignition would not shut off and the key gets stuck. Have to play with it several times to get it to shut off. The dealer replaced the ignition as well as other items in the steering column.

Van will not start unless we put it on neutral.now we are having problems even if we put it on neutral.possible neutral safety switch gone bad.
As we are driving the power steering completely cuts off and will not let you drive - the engine shuts off and your forced into turning the vehicle completely off them back on again. This happened while on the interstate in traffic which nearly caused a collision.
Driving down the highway one night and the anti-lock system is activating by itself.took it to a shop and they told me the steering angle sensor needs to be replaced. Which is the whole clockspring. They told me the sensor is saying i'm at a 42 degree angle when the steering wheel is straight. The angle of the sensor should be 0-15 degrees. Because of this it's telling the anti-lock system that i'm about to flip causing the brakes to apply by themselves. I'm not able to drive over 20mph without it activating the anti-lock system. I couldn't afford to get it repaired so i had to disable the whole anti-lock system until i have the money to replace it.
The clockspring in the steering wheel went out. At 28 miles the traction control turns on and the car starts braking even if the car is not skidding. Very dangerous.our mechanic told us the clockspring is a common problem with both the volkswagen routon and the chrysler town and country. I found one report on the internet that said volkswagen started servicing the clockspring as of 2010 routon models but did nothing for the 2009 routon.
Vehicle looses all power while driving. This has happen 3 times in 5 days. Happens randomly. Tried using another key with nothing on key chain and still happens. I also tried to giggle key while vehicle is parked and running but could not duplicate lose of power. This is very, very dangerous because you have limited steering and braking when engine stalls. Vw web-site says recall is pending. This is dangerous!!!!!
While driving at various speed the car suddenly shuts off and loses power steering.this has occurred 4 times now and is extremely dangerous.car can only be restarted when at a complete stop and placed back in park.
Tl-the contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000. Djr
We have owned the vehicle for about 2 months with no issues, when we purchased the vehicle it came with a clean carfax listing no recalls.on 3/10/15 my wife was driving on a 2 lane country road going about 35mph when the vehicle suddenly lost power and she lost control of the vehicle.the engine appeared to have cut out, she had no power steering and no power brakes and was unable to stop or steer the vehicle.the dash displayed the anti-slip light, but no others.the vehicle slowed down to a stop, thankfully there was no oncoming traffic as she was no longer in her proper lane, and no cars behind her.she was able to put it in park and restart it as if nothing had happened and it was fine after that for the rest of her commute.we contacted vw about the issue and they requested that we bring the car to a vw dealer for inspection.we did that, and vw claimed that our vehicle was not impacted by recall # rna1, but instead they insisted the issue was caused by a faulty egr valve, and gave me an engine trouble code of c121c that they claimed corresponded with the failing egr valve.vw charged me over $100 for the diagnosis, and a day later after complaining to vw customer care they agreed to refund the charges.i brought the vehicle back to the independent dealership that i originally purchased the car at the same day that vw diagnosed this, and they were not in agreement with the egr diagnosis, and also could not corroborate the trouble code c121c as being related to an egr issue, rather it comes up as a torque request signal denied trouble code instead.the independent dealer also found that i had stored codes for abs malfunctions, sunroof errors and mic/ccn instrument cluster.the independent dealer cleared these codes before leaving that day.on 3/25/15 my wife was driving at about 35mph when the cars engine shut off again in a similar fashion.no codes
Over the past 2 months, our 2009 vw routan has repeatedly shut down while driving.the engine will stop, causing the power braking and power steering to go out.once we pull over and turn the vehicle off, we can restart it.however, recently it's started to again stall within only a couple of miles of the first stall.we replaced the erg valve already.in doing some research, it appears that this dangerous problem may be due to an ignition switch problem.our vehicle is one that is part of the recall that vw issued over 7 months ago!i called vw customer care yesterday and was told that the recall part still isn't available but it should be "ready soon."the person i talked with had no idea when "soon" would be.he said the parts are coming from a different manufacturer.he told me to bring our vw to a vw dealership to have them complete a diagnosis on it.i explained that this vehicle has been nothing but problems for us and that i was unwilling to pay the dealership any additional money for a diagnosis fee when it is clearly part of the recall problem.the customer care representative started a case on our vehicle (whatever that means).in the meantime, i am scared to drive the vehicle as i have 2 young children that i will not put at risk of this thing shutting down while we are going 65 mph on the highway.it is clear to me that vw has exceeded an appropriate amount of time to fix the recall issue on all of these routans.when will vw be held accountable to fix the recall issue - it's been over 7 months!
The vehicle while driving had all the warning lights come on , the gauges go up and down and the vehicle cut off. This happened multiple times one afternoon. Had to have it towed to the house. Internet search shows that this is a routine problem for others as well.
Thank god i was not going fast. Vehicle shut down completely while driving. Was able to put in park and was able to start it back up. Apparently, the routan is manufactured by crysler and this issue also happens with the 09 town and countries as well.
The contact owns a2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the steering wheel became stiff as the vehicle stalled. The traction warning light illuminated after the failure. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic. The manufacture was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 74,000.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds, the engine would stall. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the win module was defective and needed to be replaced.the vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
The first incident with a "clunking" noise of the transmission began on 7/10/2014 at 51,496 miles. When shifting from reverse to drive car makes a "clunking" noise and jerks the car forward. It was noted by dealership after a test drive no faults found. On 3/19/15 at 58,611 miles car returned to dealership. Same clunking and grinding noises. Faults: p0868, p1790 & p0944. Pressure readings to low in tcm control wires. Transmission to be replaced per dealership. Findings: under drive clutches worn out, sungears and assembly damaged with metal metal fragments. On 4/30/2015 and 59,215 miles, car returned to dealership for same grinding and clunking noises. Dealership performed another "quick learn test." as of 5/19/2015 and 60,001 miles, transmission is still grinding and clunking on occasion during acceleration and/or transmission shift from reverse to drive. The vehicle also randomly "stalls" while at stoplights/stop-signs with no normal frequency. Even with a new transmission, same issues are still surrounding this car. Thanks.
The car suddenly shuts down loosing all electrical power. It looses all power steering and braking ability.it has done this several times at various speeds. I have to completely turn off the car and start it all over again. This has been very dangerous.
Oil consumption since 12000 miles. Vw dealer never want to address the problem. Keep tell me this normal. Now i have to add quarter oil every1400 mil. I hope the recall will fix this problem. I had to replace brakes at 12000 miles due thewhile brakes. I've done oil consumption test 3 times already.
I bought this routan aprox 8 months ago, nothing but problems,it has shut down in city traffic and highway speeds,i am aware of recall #28h1 from vw that 2 vw dealerships deny even exist.the dealer i bought this from test and diagnosed it as a defective wins module { ignition switch } and contacted a vw dealership in barre vermont and said they would order a module and scheduled a date to install it,a couple of days before appointment i myself decide to bring in myself and called to verify the date and time, there service department asked me for a recall number of which at the time i did not have because my service manager where i bought it from set this up.after tracking down the correct service rep at walker vw in barre vermont she informed me they did not order the part and there is no wins modules available yet 06/01/15 even though this recall was dated in march of 2014 ,still no fix whats up with that ? i guess our lives and the lives of our loved ones do not matter it is time for someone or the nhtsa to impose some serious preasure on volkswagon and demand that our vehicles be repaired correctly they should be brought up on charges for deceiveing the public.even my own dealership has not been telling me everything until i corner them or catch them off guard, come to find out after squeezing it out of my own local service manager is that a wins module had already been replaced in my routan for the prior owner, probably to pasify the customer.i am at this pointlooking at the legal grounds we all should have against these corperations like volkswagon or even chrysler since they produced routans for volkswagon. I would hate to trade this vehicle in just for some other sap to be stuck with a lemon .its just not safe or dependable and we have a long trip in two days 50/50 chance we make it down and back with know problems ???
Driving downhill, foot off accelerator. Abrupt loss of engine power followed by loss of power steering and braking.vehicle under known recall and has been "fixed". This incident has now occurred 3-4x since the recall fix, nearly identical circumstances approx every 1-3 months.vw kept the vehicle for > 2 weeks, unable to identify the problem, vehicle was returned to me without any new attempts at fixing it. I will be returning it to vw and taking it out of service.
Driving from indiana to phoenix the van began to shake violently while braking downhill on mountainous terrain.temperature gauge went up over 200 and van smelled warm.van did not overheat and problem subsided once back on level ground.purchased van used on july 10 2012 with approx 25,000 miles.
Vehicle loses power, losing power steering, brakes, etc. Warning lights illuminate. Able to restart engine by shifting into neutral and turning key to start.***happens multiple times approx every 1-3 months, random*** taken in for recall fix for this known problem in 2015.has happened now 3-4x since the recall fix. Extended testing by vw has not established a reason. Multiple attempted fixes, no change to the loss of power. Last happened 9/6/2015, traveling 40mph downhill in gear, abrupt loss of power, followed by loss of power steering and loss of power brakes. Again, able to restart by shifting into neutral and turning the key to start.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the engine stalled as all of the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the totally integrated power module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 34,000.
I went to pass a vehicle at 65mph and the accelerator pedal did not release, the van hit 80-mph before i popped it in neutral and then back into drive to correct the issue. Hitting the brakes had no effect on the unintended acceleration.this vehicle is mechanically identical to chrysler town & country and dadge grand caravan, see other identical complaints here: http://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/14835/dodge/voyager/dodge-grand-caravan-sudden-acceleration?
Oil consumption since 24000 miles. Vw dealer never want to address the problem. Keep tell me this normal. Now i have to add quarter oil every month. On morning car wasn't starting and took to the dealer and hadthe ignition replaced at 42000 miles but now the key get stuck on ignition multiple times. I hope the recall will fix this problem. I had to replace brakes at 12000 miles due the vibration while brakes. I had multiples electrical problems and some was repair after couple trips to the dealer. This car is a lemon. When we will have our money back?
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v396000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The dealer was unable to provide an expected date for when the part would become available. The manufacturer was notified. The contact had not experienced a failure.updated 02/05/14*ljthe consumer stated the vehicle would fail to start.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the engine stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated that the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 11,046.
While driving at 35 mph the engine including electricity and power steering shuts off completely. Had to pull over and put it in park to restart the car. This has happened numerous times. I told the dealer that i read about the recall on the year after model that they fixed their car (changed win module)free of charge. He said my car is not included in the recall.when does it become a recall? this is a safety issue.
First my routan has been in my posession for i believe about 5 years.i check the oil regulary and keep oil changes, tires, and inspections up to date are regular.since owning it, i have had a huge antifreeze leak (while on vacation), which was an easy fix, but essentially the part melted and had to be replaced, which is absurd!i was having a lot of issues with it not starting.you would have to try to start it over and over, and just when you called a garage it would start (this issue seemed to be fixed when the dealer changed the ignition, per the recall) for the past several months, the govener kickis in, and the vehicle will only go 30mph.it happens infrequently, but seems to becoming more frequent.the solution is to pull over, turn it off, start it back up, and your good to go for days to weeks until it does it again.typically it happens shortly after starting a trip, and while gaining speed, you suddenly cannot go the speed you would like.i do believe it continues to get more frequent in occurance ****now the scary thing that gets me to file a complaint****i have seen this listed many times already.my husband was again away on a trip this weekend.he had just done a lot of circle type steering at the gas station trying to park (i mention this because someone else complained of this issue after a round about).he parked.he started the car again, he backed up, and when he tried to turn to get out of the parking spot, there was no steering.he pulled forward.he put it in park, he turned it off.he started it, he drove 2.5 hours home with my 3 kids under 9.he had no issues.what is wrong with the car, i am afraid to drive it.thankfully he was going 2 mph, but i have seen cases of people on the interstate.what if i drive it, and we have an accident and my family dies?how can i drive a car that lost steering and feel safe!?
As we are driving the power steering completely cuts off and will not let you drive - the engine shuts off and your forced into turning the vehicle completely off them back on again. This happened while on the interstate in traffic which nearly caused a collision.
Vehicle engine will turn itself off and lose power while driving down the road. Able to pull the car off the road and immediately restart the engine. It causes a loss of power steering, power brakes, etc. This has happened multiple times and whenever taken to dealer for diagnosis the issue can not be duplicated. Usually happens when the car is cold, but yesterday it happened after we had been driving for a couple of hours. You can watch the rpm's drop every now and then and sometimes it will catch it and keep the motor running, but sometimes not.
Van has stalled while driving on multiple occasions.power steering is lost. Vehicle will then start right back up. This is extremely dangerous for a minivan used to transport multiple children. No codes or faults are recorded.
The contact owns 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure occurred on numerous occasions.. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While the contact's niece was stopped at a stop light, it experienced a complete loss of power. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the engine was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was towed to another independent mechanic who confirmed that the engine was defective. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not offer assistance. The failure mileage was 65,273.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan.the contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, the vehicle stalled as the traction control warning light illuminated.the failure occurred on two occasions.the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 41,300.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While driving 25 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road and restarted. The contact stated that the failure occurred ten times prior to this failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 96,000.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 30 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was moved to the shoulder where it was restarted. The vehicle resumed normal function. The contact also mentioned that the brakes had to be replaced often. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While the contact was out of town, the vehicle failed to start and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. Once the vehicle was able to be started, the check engine indicator dimmed. The contact called a local dealer (green chevrolet, 1703 avenue of the cities, east moline, il 61244) and was informed to take the vehicle to her local dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 124,000.
Car electrical system goes crazy, speedometer needle goes crazy. Radio turns off and on, then the vehicle turns off completely.it turns on after.sometimes all this happens before turning off, sometimes it turns off suddenly with no warning.have spent a lot of money trying to fix issue with no luck.driving it makes me very nervous but i can't change cars right now.it has happened both on small streets and highway in motion.
Vehicle won't start. This is not the first time and i have filled previous incident reports. It left me stranded again today after i picked up medicine for a child at home recovering from surgery. This vehicle is unreliable and therefore the situation is unacceptable. Our mechanic has run diagnostics and can find nothing wrong. We took a leap of faith and had a new starter installed, this was not the problem.i would buy another car, but right now this is not an option for us. We need help!
Had the win module replaced for the electrical system ignition switch recall.now the car will make sudden stops and shut down. Car then will not start up unless the battery is unhooked and hooked back up. Dealer wants to charge 350.00 to do a diagnostic test to determine the cause.
While entering freeway loud noise then all indicator lights came on. Vehicle quit running in traffic. Coasted off roadway. Inspected engine and spacer between engine block and oil pan was cracked. Engine seized and internal parts cracked block. Engine had new piston rings and valve seals installed at 68000 miles by dealer for oil consumption issues. Oil consumption issue was never resolved.
I have been experiencing the engine dying suddenly while i am driving. There is no warning or engine lights.everything turns off including the power steering. This is terrifying. I took my vehicle to the dealer, i have an extended warranty. After keeping it two days, they claim that nothing is wrong with the car. I tried to explain the danger involved in my car suddenly losing power but the dealer states there is nothing they can do about it.
Vehicle completely turns off while driving, losing all control, use of brakes and steering. It has been 4 weeks since the recall was sent out and there is still no fix available, and the company can not give any other information besides they are working on it.
When i purchased the car they checked the oil and i saw it was clean and full. After a week my wife told me the oil light came on. I checked the oil and their were no oil on the dip stick. I filled the oil to the correct spot on the dipstick. A week later i check the oil and again there were no oil on the dipstick. So i call the dealer and they sent me to sears who could not find a leak and they changed the oil. I checked the oil the following week and again there were no oil on the dipstick. So i call the dealer again and they sent me to another mechanic who could not find a leak. I'm now checking and adding oil weekly.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but had not yet been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,500. The vin was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While driving between 30 to 65 mph, the vehicle randomly jerked forward and backward as if it were skipping a gear. In addition, the check engine indicator illuminated afterwards several times. The contact spoke with two unknown dealers and then contacted an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the underdrive solenoid circuit of the transmission was malfunctioning. After conducting some research, the contact found that the manufacturer placed a chrysler engine and transmission into her volkswagen vehicle. The independent mechanic completed the repairs with another new chrysler transmission solenoid part. While the contact was driving on the highway, the vehicle lost complete acceleration and had to be pulled over to the shoulder of the road. The vehicle was towed back to the independent mechanic, but had not yet been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer provided case number: 181899879 and nhtsa's phone number to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 115,226.
While taking my grandson to school this morning on a very curvy country road the engine died on my 2009 volkswagon routain. Having no brakes and no power steering made it very difficult to control vehicle. I turned on emergency flashers when car finally stoped turned to off position then restarted engine. This is not the first time this has happened to me and my wife. Problem cannot be diagnosed by dealer why can't chrysler fix this serious problem before someone gets injured or killed. I know as well as nhtsa that this has happened to many people. Previous recall fix for ignition switch at wv dealer to solve this problem did not work . Its a shame that many people have to injured or killed by a serious known problem like this before companies are forced to fix them.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able restart. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. While driving at 65 mph on i35, the car's transmission acted like it slipped into 2nd gear and the tack went to 5000rpm.i tried to just slow down and get off the road, turned the car off and back on when i got to a parking lot.i then started driving again and it appeared to be alright.within a few days it did it a couple times more, this time turning on the check engine light.took it to the dealer and they couldn't duplicate problem in the week they had it.picked it up from the dealership and was about 10 to 15 miles away and it did it again.i took it back to the dealer the next day and it has been there for two weeks.they told me an engineer from corporatecame to check it out and during that time they had another car - same year, same style, even same color come into the shop with the same problem and they verified the problem on both of the cars.they said it was the transmission and it is going to cost somewhere around $5000.00 +/- to get it fixed.this is a very dangerous problem and i am hoping that something will be done about it.there are numerous stories on the internet with people in volkswagens that have had the same or similar problems.cannot see why there hasn't been a recall for this problem.they even admitted that they had seen the same or similar problems posted on the internet.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road and restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the wind module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000. The vin was not available.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the vehicle would stall. The vehicle was able to restart and operated as normal. The vehicle taken to the dealer multiple times but the failure could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000. Dash flashing, hard start after putting in a new fuse box and after flash from the dealer
While driving, engine shut off like the ignition was turned off - lost power steering and brakes.this has happened multiple times since incident date.volkswagen service could not diagnose the problem.
The engine turned to off while i was driving and depowered power steering and brakes. At that point i restarted the car and was able to drive.took the car immediately to vw dealer, kept the car for 24 hours, and they could not replicate the incident so nothing was done by them.this happened again at 93000 miles on august 8, 2014.
Was driving on a residential street when the engine shut off without warning. Completely lost all power (steering, brakes, etc).was able to pull over to side of road thankfully only going 25 mph and no traffic. Put vehicle in park, started up immediately and ran fine after that.received recall letter in mail the following week stating the ignition switch can turn off without noticeincident happened 2 additional times, similar circumstances.spoke with dealer and vw corporate on 3 separate occasions.volkswagen states they do not have a solution for the recall repair at this time, nor will they do anything about the possible safety issue of the vehicle shutting off and causing an accident.
We have a 2009 vw routan sel that has stalled multiple times now (4-5) while driving.there is no warning and car loses power.car starts up immediately after putting in park and restarting.this seems to be common problem and there is a recall for the 2010 model as well as the chrysler minivan which this car is based from.
After my van has been sitting for a while and it been warmed up for 15 minutes.with in the first 2 to 5 miles of driving the traction control light will come on and the van will shut off and the steering wheel and break will fail. Then i have to turn the key to off and restart the van and it sometime repeat itself if i'm stuck in traffic.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. Once the vehicle was warmed up, it lost power. When the engine was not warmed up, the vehicle could only be operated for 10 to 15 minutes. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the lock torque converter between the valve body was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
At least twice per month when i drive my van, the steering will suddenly go out, then the brakes will stop working, then it will just shut off.so far it has only happened when i was driving at pretty low rates of speed.i've called the vw dealership several times and each time they say that they haven't heard of anything like this before and want to charge me a fortune just to look at it.with the newest recall, i cannot understand why my vehicle is not included and the dealership still claims that they have no clue what i'm taking about when all these vehicle were made bu the same manufacturer.this has happened so many times, i can feel it in the steering right before it happens.as soon as my steering starts to get tight, i have to hit the brakes right away before they go out, and turn the car off.usually when i restart the car, it's fine.this is getting ridiculous and i should have to go through this with a vehicle when there is a proper fix.i have 4 children and another on the way and this is not safe.
Our routan has, yet again, left me stranded. I was running errands with two of my children and the vehicle would not start. This is not an isolated incident for me or, it would appear from research i've done, for this make and model. Our mechanic has run diagnostics and can not find anything wrong. It is a safety concern because it is unreliable and leaves me stranded, twice late at night, several times, fortunately, in front of my own home and this needs to be addressed.
10/7/12: entering onto road, began acceleration up to 20/25 mph -then all power, controls dead.lost power steering and coasted into parking lot.shut car down, flooded/pumped accelerator pedal.difficulty starting but worked, drove like normal, again.10/14/12: turning from sidestreet, on to main street -going 20 mph.lost all power again-manually turned coasted car into left middle turning lane.re-started, operated normal.
Vehicle continues to shut down while driving without warning.vehicle must either be stopped and restarted or placed in neutral while coasting to restart.
Vehicle has been moving and will suddenly shut down while driving.all power steering, braking and electrical systems go out.i have to try to manually swerve off the road and put the car in park.take the key out of the ignition and restart.i understand that this problem had been fixed in 2015 under a recall with the win module and vw indicates that since it's been fixed they only offer a 12 month warranty.for me to get a new win module, the dealership said it would be $2,000 and a long estimated time without the car.this car is blue booked as only worth $3,500.00.this is again a faulty piece that should be covered by the recall.the car only has 75k miles.there's no reason to have a car with 75k miles and need two win modules so far.i want this to be in writing that when i am driving on i-95 and my car suddenly stalls and my 2 1/2 year old and 4 1/2 year old and myself end up in a casket, it's because of this faulty product which they will not cover again on the recall.
I was accelerating from a red light when the hose from the cooling system exploded. My van lurched forward and died. I had purchased an extended warranty but was told they would not cover it. I had to pay over $600 to get the hose fixed. This is just the beginning of many problems.
During the first month of purchase of my 2009 vw routan i experienced problems with the rear sliding doors. At first it was getting them to open an close an went to the point of the door trying to open while car was in motion. I have had the car in for multiple problems like i have gone through 26qrts of oil in the last 9 months an they have supposedly fixed it 4 times now . The rear sliding doors are a whole other issue, i have had the car in for this issue atleast 12-15 times an 5-6 of those times was during the first year of ownership. My most recent time of having it in the vw service dept was about 6 wks ago an nothing was resolved after it being there for a week. I did not know of the lemon law or i would have talked to a lawyer then. There has to be something that someone can do to help consumers with this vehicle. I cant keep worrying about the door opening while my children are in the car an i am driving the dealership an vw customer care have been made well aware of the issues an have done nothing but tell me to bring it to the service dept where nothing is done.
Engine shutdown-resulting in loss of steering.during normal drivingspeed between 15-25 mph, engine shuts down (quits running) during turns (either direction) . Male driver of vehicle is retired law enforcement , trained in emergency procedures, during failure it takes extreme effort to maintain physical control of vehicle to bring to a stop. Vehicle will not restart when shifting to neutral while moving, ignition is on when failure occurs. Vehicle can be restarted after stopping and placing in park. Can reoccur without warning . Vehicle has been at volkswagen dealership for a total of three weeks as of this report. First diagnosis is vehicle esc system (trouble code for faulty switch). No result. Failed again.second trouble code indicates problem in dash assembly - waiting for parts expect another 6-10 days for repairs to start.additional.writers spouse lost control on 2/24 - into ditch lost a tire. Further incidents of engine shutdown over a period of two weeks during which vehicle has beenin dealership for analysis until this last 3 week period.again - during turns . The engine will shut off - no power with lost of steering control- in turns - living in west virginia - it is a serious safety problem.
We recently purchased a 2009 volkswagen routan se with both driver and passenger automatic sliding doors. Our 4 year old son went to open the rear passenger side door by pulling on the handle, and at the same time my husband went to open the door by pushing the "door open" button on the key. Asa result of this, the door ended up closing completely, and latching, on my son's hand. It also would only open once my husband forcefully pulled the door open. Of course his hand immediately swelled up and we visited the emergency department, had xray's taken, and there was no incidence of a fracture. When we reported this directly to volkswagen of america, we were instructed to bring it to the local dealer and have diagnostics done. The result? "there is nothing wrong with your vehicle." they went on to explain to us that the anti pinch protection is working, but is not designed to sense such a small object. Volkswagen of america assured us that this matter was not taken lightly, and that the engineering department came to the conclusion that the door was functioning properly. When we addressed any further actions, ie replacement of door, vehicle, or termination of our lease agreement, we were told, "we are sorry for this unfortunate accident, but accidents happen and there is nothing more we can do for you." when we expressed our concern that our 4 year old son is petrified of our car, and that he refuses to get into the vehicle by himself, let alone open the door alone, we were told, "i am sure he will get over it after a while." these answers are not acceptable to us. For a car that is marketed as a family mobile and a safe vehicle, we feel that it does not live up to it's claims. It makes no sense why an automatic door would be designed to sense something bigger than a child's hand, limb, or other body part. What goes hand in hand with a minivan? a child! we feel we have been neglected due to the lack of caring or importance that this matter has been given.
Dash flashing, hard start after putting in a new fuse box and after flash from the dealer
Besides the brakes/rotors now going on their 4th set and the car is less than 2 years old, the front bumper looks like it was about to fall off, many small other problems, this morning my son had his finger caught in the sliding door and the door did not open, it just kept trying to shut on him.this van is horrible!the door has acted up before, but never like this.the decals on the drivers door were coming off at one point and had to be replaced.the tail light already had to be replaced.water in the front light.just too many things for a new car.
Thanks.
While driving at various speed the car suddenly shuts off and loses power steering.this has occurred 4 times now and is extremely dangerous.car can only be restarted when at a complete stop and placed back in park.
Heating/ventilation/air conditioning control panel is mounted low in the center dash area and is illuminated in blue, making it almost impossible to read in daylight.this causes the driver to take his/her eyes off the road when making adjustments to the settings and can result in a crash.the 2010 model of this vehicle uses white lighting, correcting the problem.2009 models should be recalled for a retrofit.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the doors failed to unlock from the outside of the vehicle. The contact had to utilize the manual lock that was located inside the driver side door handle in order to unlock the doors. The failure occurred on numerous occasions. The dealer stated that the key fob and module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

Power sliding doors can trap child or pets in their path.
The rear tailgate of my 2009 volkswagen routan opened up automatically while the car was in gear and in motion which, according to the owner's manual, it should not do even if the power tailgate button is pressed.this happened while the car was being pulled into the garage which resulted in the rear windshield shattering upon contact with the garage door opening.the car was brought to the local volkswagen dealership the same day and nothing was found in the diagnostics that pointed to a failure of any sort.there were previous electrical issues experienced with the car not reported to the dealer, including with the tailgate, that were not as serious and that corrected themselves after shutting off and restarting the car.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While driving 25 mph, the front passenger side door opened without warning. The vehicle was taken to gurley leep motorwerks (4004 grape rd, mishawaka, in 46545) where it was diagnosed that the lock switch and locking rod failed and needed to be repaired. In addition, the door latch failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but later the power locks on the same door failed to work. The vehicle was taken back to gurley leep motorwerks where it was diagnosed that the cable guide wire failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated when she locked the doors, the children were unable to exit from the inside. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000. The vin was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the emergency brake warning indicator illuminated, which indicated that it was locked. The vehicle veered to the right and crashed into a parked vehicle. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The dealer performed an unknown repair, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 850.
Vehicle shuts off automatically while driving. No specific temperature outside, no specific time of day, just shuts off more then once while driving to locations.
I bought my vw routan used in september 2014. In the 1st couple of months the transmission would stop shifting (i would turn it off and back on) to fix it and in november 2014 the transmission went out and got stuck in 3rd gear while driving and wouldn't reset after turning off, this is when the check engine light came on, at 62,000 miles. Had to have a new $6000 transmission brought in from germany to be put in the van. Now less than 30,000 miles later after a new original transmission put in, having the same problem not shifting out of 3rd gear and having to pull it over turn it off and turn it back on for it to work properly again.
*sometimes the vehicle will not start for no apparent reason.vw service dept. Cannot detect an issue. *engine light comes on intermittently while driving-vw cannot detect anything wrong.* alarms go off but no signal showing on the dashboard.*power windows and seats work intermittently- *found vehicle's sliding door wide open i parking lot, twice. * have also found windows open. Our lift gate (trunk) opened while driving on the highway.* vehicle failed to shift, while driving, revved and would not reset until pulling over and turning off the vehicle. Though vw could not find faulty readings and didn't believe tipm is the issue because they couldn't read it. Being familiar with programming, i know that glitches can cause faulty readings.if there is a glitch before the reading can be processed by the computer, there will be no faulty reading logged. All issues point to faulty tipm (manufactured by chrysler, who had to settle in a lawsuit about the tipm box/ faulty relay issue for jeep, dodge, and chrysler). We need help with these issues. Too many of us have it 2011 and 2012 models as well. Please help.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While driving 40 mph the contact noticed the transmission was stuck in third gear. The dealer was not notified of this failure. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that they were not able to assist. The vin search reveled no recalls. The vehicle had not been diagnosed repaired. The failure mileage was 75,000.
The vehicle has only 85800 miles and when driving in the highway at about 75 to 80 miles, the vehicle loses power and may cause a bad accident.when driving in the city street, the vehicle does the same thing. It loses power
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that after stopping at traffic light, the vehicle stalled and the instrument panel warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v396000 (electrical system) however, the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 34,031.
Thanks.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While in park, the vehicle failed to start. While driving at 40 mph, there was a beeping noise coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the range selector needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired.the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v396000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. We were driving the vehicle when all of the sudden it stalled! there is no check light on and when it does this we lost all power breaking and steering. This almost happened to us around an elevated corner luckily we had just past the curve when we lost all power. In reading this is a common problem on the town and country routan grand caravan and all associated models. Something should be done due to the danger and potential risk to human life! we bought this van to keep our children safe not have to worry of it will loose power steering at 30 mph in a canyon corner!
The passenger side airbag cover are inflated , crack , bubble, look like the airbag mayexploted.. I call vw and they say is it normal and not sale the part. 2009 mini van. .?? i really not think they change or overheating.. Getting words ..and yesterday from not wear the routan not drive over 35 mph when my wife driving on the highway and check engine came , 4 code ,p0733,p0734, p0792. And almost a truck hit my wife.. I look on vw forums and it is common problem,, why this it not a recall with so many people complaining and problems.. Unsafe to drive.
Car won't go more than 50 miles per hour
Thanks.
Catastrophic failure of transmission at 76k. Major transmission work done approximately 26k. Transmission replaced 6 months later and still has issues (sluggish, non-smooth shift between gears at higher cruising speeds. Vw engineer gerardo zeledon calls this the "routan shake" and claims this is normal. Approximately 95,000 miles steering began seizing up while in motion. This is, according to recall notice and service manager at flow vw winston salem nc, a behavior related to a recall on the ignition switch (ntsha 14v-396). No parts are available and the car is unsafe to drive. However, vw cannot fix the problem and will not allow us to use a loaner.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While the vehicle was parked with the key in the ignition, the rear door opened and would not close. The contact turned the vehicle off and restarted it; the door then closed. She stated that once a child's hands got caught in the rear door. The vehicle was taken to two authorized dealers seven times; once the dealer vacuumed the channels where the pulleys were located. The doors hesitated after but did not stay open. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for brake issues as the brakes were grinding and was informed that the rear drums and rotors needed to be replaced. The transmission hesitated and the seams were separating on the rear portion of the front seats. The vehicle had not been repaired. There were five recalls for the vehicle but the repairs had not been performed. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000 and the current mileage was 26,000.
On monday, october 4th, 2010, i pulled into my driveway and placed the 2009 volkswagen routan in park.the engine was still running while i finished up a phone call through the bluetooth and proceeded to listen to the radio while cleaning out the van.i walked around the exterior of the vehicle leaning in to clean the interior of the car.i needed to go inside the house, so, standing outside driver's side of the van i reached across the seat to turn off the engine and remove the keys. As soon as i did this, the van jolted backward and continued to travel down my driveway.my upper body was still inside the car.i tried to depress the emergency brake with my right hand while i held tightly onto the steering wheel with my left.i wasn't able to stop the car but i was able to turn the wheel so that the van crashed into a tree on my property, instead of going into the street.when the van hit the tree, the force threw me out of the vehicle and onto the driveway.i was taken to the hospital by my husband where the found that i had broken 2 ribs, sprained my left shoulder and sustained extensive soft tissue damage.i also suffered several cuts and scrapes and numerous bruises.at this point in time, nothing has been done to correct the failure.
My 2009 volkswagen routan slipped into reverse while i was behind it today running me over and causing a leg injury.
I have had my volkswagen routan for about a year and a half. In that time the transmission has gone out twice now. The first time was at 6k miles and it was at the dealer for 2 months before it was fixed. There was every excuse in the book, first they didn't have a tech qualified to fix it so they had to wait on an out of state tech to come in. Parts were backordered and when they came in the "fix" didn't work so they had to order a new transmission. Now at 15k miles i started having more problems with the transmission and the rear power folding seat was broken. I reluctantly took it back to the dealer but was assured that they would be able to fix it in a short amount of time. That was a month ago, and it is still not fixed, they are waiting on parts to come in. Volkswagen's customer care is no help, they say they are working on it but the only thing they have done so far is apologize.
I have a 2009 volkswagen routan. The third row is a bench seat, which has latch compatibility in one place. The owner's manual states that a child safety seat (booster or infant seat) can be installed using the latch system in the center seat of the third row. When a booster seat or an infant seat are, in fact, installed in this third row, the child is actually positioned in between the outboard seat and the center seat, due to the position of the latch "bars", and the child's head is in between the center and outboard headrest, and is not protected by either headrest. This also means that neither the center seatbelt or outboard seatbelt fits across my child as it should - it is not across his shoulder. I took the car to our local vw and they told me to call volkswagen directly; when i did, i was put in touch with a member of the safety team who completely dismissed my concerns and told me that if my latch didn't seem to be in the correct positions, then i should just not use the latch. When i asked to speak to someone else that would take my concerns seriously (the child is not protected by the seatbelt or headrest when using the latch in the third row at all!!!), i was told there was no one else to speak to an that all the routans were made that way as a "convenience" for folding down the seats.

I am writing you due to an incident that happened to my child concerning the vw routon minivan. We were looking at one on display at hickam air force base this past saturday, the 4th of july., 2009. The back hatch was open and my 7 year old found buttons that powered the last row of seats. These buttons lifted the seats up and down. To my horror i all of sudden heard my 3 year old screaming. He was standing in the car directly in front of the last row of seats with his foot lodged in between the seat and the floor. The power lift was still running and smashing his foot. There was no sensor that stopped the power seat. I feel this could be very dangerous. What would happen if a child's head got lodged in this mechanism. Luckily my child had crock shoes on and was able to pull his foot out of his shoe but there was quite an indentation mark from where the seat was pushing on his foot. The doors in minivans have sensors--i believe these power lift back row seats should have some sort of sensor. I would hate to have a child get killed by this.
While driving in phoenix az the van began to shake and steering became difficult.(this has happened in the past multiple times intermittently).later the same evening brakes began to squeak and grind.until this day the only issue had been the intermittent shaking while braking.there was no squeaking prior to the grinding.right rear caliper was replaced along with all front/rear brakes rotors drums and hardware.cost=$780.55.
We have had brake problems since we bought this vehicle. The brakes wobble and make noise. It started with less than 15,000 miles on the car. We have had to replace pads and rotors several times. Once under warranted and a few times after. We have had to change the hearings as well as the brakes and rotors. The problem is primarily with the front wheels and brakes. We are having the same problem again. The internet is full of complaints about this issue.
Problem with the car:start vibrating when brakes are applied, then start shaking.i have take the car to 2 different dealers (4 different times) since june 2011.first time dealer replace brake pads and rotors.second time dealer service rep told "that nothing is wrong with it".third they said "that's normal wear and tear"submitted a complaint through corporate.a lady from corporate called me back and told me the same thing the dealer told me.she also stated that will forward the compliant to the dealer manager. Fourth time:i took it to a different dealer.i asked her "does anybody call chrysler and ask for guidance or see if they have any brake problems with their cars.by the way this vw is made by chrysler.fourth time:i took it to a different dealer. This dealer called me (phillips) and told that the first time the other dealer fix it, that was it.he keep on saying "that was a one time deal, if you want it fix you have to come up with over $350.00.i told him that he was not right because the car still under warranty. I received the car back and the service ticket said " the rotors were resurfaced as a goodwill for customer satisfaction.i drove the car this morning and is doing the samething. I cannot afford for the brakes to fail and have a crash for the dealer to look pass the brake pads and rotors.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the brake rotors failed every 8,000 miles. The vehicle was taken toa dealer where the failure was unable to be duplicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,329.
While driving approx 30-35mph, my van began to smell hot and smoke began to rise from the right front wheel well. I had two of my three children with me.i frantically told my 14 yr old son who was in the front passenger seat to get to the back and help his four yr old sister out of her car seat (we were still moving) i pulled into a parking lot and had them quickly exit the left sliding door of the van. Later that evening i went back to retrieve the van alone and as soon as the van began to move it made the most horrible grinding noise i have ever heard.i immediately knew it was a seized brake caliper,(not because i am a mechanic. I am a speech therapist).i knew because approx 4 months prior the van made the exact same sound with no warning when the right rear caliper seized and both front and back brakes were replaced! =$780).i drove to the closest brake shop where it was repaired the next day. Cost=$733.68. I travel as a speech therapist.i was in jacksonville beach, fl during this fiasco.the prior brake repair was done in phoenix, az so i could not use the same company or question the warranty.it clearly isn't a warranty issue.am i to believe it is normal to replace the entire brake system including rotors, drums, pads, discs, calipers, bushings, pin boots, etc,,, every 7,000 miles??i think not. I didn't even know all those words until i purchased a routan. Something is wrong.these vans are dangerous.i will not drive my children long distances or on the interstate in the van, which i purchased because we don't all fit in the corolla.i am asking vw to reimburse me.we will see how that goes.thank goodness all i have lost is money.
Since purchasing the vehicle as a new car in october of 2009 we have experienced intermittent but chronically recurring issues with violent shaking during braking on our 2009 vw routan.to work the problem the rear brake rotors and pads were replaced by the oem three months after purchasing the vehicle.the problem persisted & after repeated visits to the dealer the front brakes and rotors were replaced by the oem at 15,019 miles on october 27, 2010.vibration during breaking still persisted at highway speeds but was manageable.in july of 2013 heavy vibration returned.the dealer informed us all four tires had uneven wear and would need to be replaced, along with all 4 air pressure gauges.shaking continued so we then paid to have the front rotors and brake pads replaced again at 47,300 miles (appx) on august 6, 2013.as of now the vehicle still vibrates at highway speed braking although less violently.we believe several issues are at play possibly:- inferior or defective brake rotors, both factory installed and oem replacement rotors- chronic stability issue at highway speeds- uneven wear on tires which contributed to more rapid wear and tear- near simultaneous failure of all 4 air pressure gauges before 50,000 miles.we have kept the replaced tire pressure gauges, brake rotors and pads if nhtsa would like to examine.
When the vehicle is traveling near 30mph or even higher than that, when the brakes are applied, it shakes violently.this causes the driver to have to hold the steering wheel very tightly to avoid loosing control. The braking system in general seems to be faulty as the brakes and rotors have had to be replaced/changed every two to three months. It is very expensive to replace these brakes and rotors as well as pay for the labor every few months.this is a great concern and should be considered for a recall.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the esc warning light suddenly displayed, and the braking system erroneously activated causing the vehicle to abruptly stop. The contact stated that after turning off and restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated normally. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
The engine turned to off while i was driving and depowered power steering and brakes. At that point i restarted the car and was able to drive.took the car immediately to vw dealer, kept the car for 24 hours, and they could not replicate the incident so nothing was done by them.this happened again at 93000 miles on august 8, 2014.
Shortly after buying this van the van would shake when brakes were engaged, took it to the dealership but they said nothing was wrong with the brakes. I took it to another place for verification and was told my brakes were bad, the rotors were warped. Went back to dealer and told mgr about the second opinion so he had the brakes replaced.
The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the brake pedal failed to respond when depressed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,300.
Beginning on 2/09/2012 through 8/19/2013 there have been (3) incidents on this vin of at least (1) wheel causing a severe vibration while driving. Upon inspection, the first (2) incidents revealed that the right front wheel had its lug nuts loosening while the other (3) wheels nut nuts were all tight and torqued to specs. On the last incident on 8/19/2013 (3) of the (5) right front wheel studs broke off causing severe vibration in the vehicle. Vehicle became inoperable and required a tow to the dealer.
Thank god i was not going fast. Vehicle shut down completely while driving. Was able to put in park and was able to start it back up. Apparently, the routan is manufactured by crysler and this issue also happens with the 09 town and countries as well.
Vehicle completely turns off while driving, losing all control, use of brakes and steering. It has been 4 weeks since the recall was sent out and there is still no fix available, and the company can not give any other information besides they are working on it.
I am having all kinds of brake problems! i had to replace all the pads and rotors which where badly rusted at 28000.and now at 44000 i will have to replace them all again and callibors i also had all 4 tires go flat at different times because of valve sensors corroding and falling into tires! skylight leaks! drivers side sliding door does not close automaticly!ruber on running bourds kept comming off.dealer finnaly reinbursed me after going back 2 or3 times to have them glue it down. I spend more time trying to fix it than driving it it only has 44000 miles! vehicle is a lemmon!
Problems with braking at 22,837 miles in 2010.vehicle would shake when going down a hill and applying brakes to stop.front brake pads were replaced and rotors turned .two years later in 2012 at 43,919 miles back rotors and brake pads were replaced, all 4 tires replaced, and front end alignment. In 2013 at 68,797 miles 2 of the new tires were replaced and another front end alignment. Car stops sometimes and will not come back on immediately. In 2014 at 90,000 miles, battery died and antifreeze in radiator exploded, had to purchase a new battery and a part for the radiator.had to replace front rotors and brake pads, 2 tires and had another front end alignment.extremely loud noise when driving, mechanic said it may be wheel bearings. The abs and check engine light come on and off.driver side door does not lock unless you push the lock down with your hand. Mechanic says the front brake pads will have to be replaced when tires are rotated the next time (these were replaced with the rotors in june or july 2014).if you lean against back seat from the trunk area, it falls forward and the middle seat no longer folds down.also, the driver side window stalls when you try to roll it up or down.
We were driving the vehicle when all of the sudden it stalled! there is no check light on and when it does this we lost all power breaking and steering. This almost happened to us around an elevated corner luckily we had just past the curve when we lost all power. In reading this is a common problem on the town and country routan grand caravan and all associated models. Something should be done due to the danger and potential risk to human life! we bought this van to keep our children safe not have to worry of it will loose power steering at 30 mph in a canyon corner!
The steering wheel shakes and vibrates when braking at over 30 mph. Had brakes service 3 times and the problem still persists. There must a defect in the brake component . Other owners have similar problems .they should have a recall or something before somebody dies.
We bought this vehicle in april of 2009 based on all of the "safety features" and as it turns out has been one of the most unsafe vehicle i have ever owned. Since purchase we have had the rotors cut 2x and replaced once due to violent shaking in front end when braking at any speed. The first time we were told this was due to the vehicles sitting in the rain for a period of time . What ??? that may be the most aggravating of all which is that vw would rather assume you are stupid enough to believe that. Another issue has been that the head unit (dvd player & backup cam) have had issues from day 1 such as the unit switching from dvd to radio on its own. At times the dvd screens go blank which requires you to shut down the system and start it up again and the backup cam will not go off once the vehicle is put in drive. This problem was then referred to vw for them to tell me that they found no issues and that i should bring the vehicle in when it happens, which i did to no avail. My final complaint is the "worry free" maintenance. I have always changed oil religiously in any vehicle i have ever owned every 3000 miles unless i used synthetic which i would change before 5000 miles. Vw has told us to come in for service every 6000 miles which i had claimed to be wrong and it should be changed every 3000. Again i was treated as if i am stupid and vw's somehow can go longer in between oil changes using conventional oil. Needless to say i now have a 2009 vw routan that has just over 28000 miles, is out of warranty , as 36 months has passed since purchase, and has a check engine light that continues to go on and off and although the oil now gets changed every 3000 miles at my expense i have to continuously add oil every 500 or so miles. Does any of this seem to be the result of negligence on the part of vw?
Five times in the past 6 months the power in the van basically turns off. The steering becomes next to impossible and the brakes become extremely tight to the point you can't even use them. It is terrifying to have zero control over your car considering i have 4 children. It has happened while i was going only 30mph and also when i was going 45 mph. It happens when i'm going straight and has also happened while turning. Since the latest issue i refuse to drive anywhere that i can't take back roads to.
Driving from indiana to phoenix the van began to shake violently while braking downhill on mountainous terrain.temperature gauge went up over 200 and van smelled warm.van did not overheat and problem subsided once back on level ground.purchased van used on july 10 2012 with approx 25,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While driving approximately 70 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle suddenly accelerated past 90 mph on its own. The vehicle failed to accelerate when depressing the brake pedal and the cruise control could not be deactivated. The driver had to switch the engine off in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to coventry motorcars (2152 boston tpke, coventry, ct), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 78,000.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the front rotors had to be replaced three times since the vehicle was purchased and twice in the last year. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician replaced the rotor, caliper, and hub. The technician insisted that the failure was normal wear and tear. The vehicle was not properly repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000.updated 5/26/15updated 10/3/2017
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While driving approximately 40 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. In addition, the contact stated that the brakes failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v396000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 91,770.
Shaking brakes reported to dealership.rotor repaired under warranty, brakes repaired at our expense.<5000 miles later, same problem - dealership telling us to replace roters and brakes, again.ironically, the routan that the dealer used to shuttle me to and from the service station was shaking while braking...
Braking is inadequate and is likely to fail as brake rotors are warped after less than a 8,000 miles.warped rotors could affect abs system and lead to more accidents.vw has replaced rotors with same part number so problem repeats itself shortly after installation.vw needs to improve their brakes for this vehicle given the safety of the typical customer is usually a family of four or more.a recent search on google shows that many others have reported similar problems to vw who continues to simply replace the part with the same one.they need to take this seriously and engineer a better braking system for this vehicle or buy better quality braking components.
Brake rotors warp very quickly on this vehicle (which is also made by chrysler). During heavy braking at 40mph the steering wheel vibrates very heavily due to warped brake rotors (happens under 12000miles). Don't see how antilock sensors can withstand this vibration and get an accurate reading to keep the vehicle from locking the wheels. I have already had incidents where applying the brakes at 40mph hour that i have skidded but was smart enough to let off once i realized the abs was not functioning correctly and re-applied the brakes.vw and dealer acknowledge the problem and replace the rotors with the same defective rotors on the vehicle. This is an engineering problem and not a wear and tear issue as they claim. It will only be a matter of time before someone gets killed in a bad accident thinking that abs brakes and there braking system is reliable. High speed braking is not something you do everyday but in an emergency and that's when you realize that your brakes are warped and in need of repair!!! but it might be too late!!!
After less than 1 year of driving the van, i noticed shaking while braking. I thought it was just bad braking habits. Last year, i rode an american version of this van (chrysler or dodge), there was the same problem.i sentit to the dealership today and found out that rear rotors were bad.i checked the internet and there were similar problems.i asked them to repair it hopefully, they will replace with better parts.i think the brakes were not designed for the v8 engine.
My brakes and rotors have gone out twice in my brand new vw routan. Once at 5,000 miles and again at 10,000 miles. It has had a ton of other problems and has been in the shop for weeks at a time. Multiple recalls have been repaired at each service as well. Entire vehicle shaking and brakes not working correctly both times. I am afraid to drive it with my baby in the car.
The 09 vw routan has needed brakes and rotors replaced every 9 months.to date vw has covered the cost of replacement under warranty however have yet to make a recall on these parts.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the front brake rotors were warped. While depressing the brakes to a stop, the vehicle would shimmer before stopping. The vehicle was taken to the dealer previously who replaced the brake pads and rotors under warranty. The manufacturer was not notified of the recent failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 26,000.
Premature rear brake failure. With 40k miles the rear caliper locked causing burning of the pads, and requiring complete replacement of all rear brake components.
Brakes started shaking at around 3,000 miles.when the brakes were applied the warped rotors caused a shimmy that was almost uncontrollable.the dealer turned the rotors and within 500 miles they exhibited the same problem again.the dealer then changed all four rotors.the vehicle now has 20,000 miles and is showing the same problem again.
Excessive vibration during light/moderate braking- this has been noticeable at a very early mileage. After 16,000 miles the noise and vibration has become very annoying-the whole vehicle vibrates.
Vw routan 2009-the braking system after 6 weeks started to shake and at times i have come close to not coming to a full stop due to the violent vibration it caused. I am thinking that if idon't ease up on the brakes that something is going to explode. This continueseven after requesting for the dealership to investigate. Now at 18000 miles i am requiring to replace rotors and brakes. $$$. Unfair. With all the recalls associated with this vehicle, i am tempted to trade in..i use to love and trust the vw reputation:(( time to change!!
Bought the van in sept of 2009 with approximately 1000 miles.were told it was a demo vehicle for auto shows.had to bring it back within a couple of weeks for brake issues...pounding-pulsating when stopping. Brake rotors and pads continually pulsate.problem is worse when stopping on the downhill or when brakes are heated or pressured.feel like we lose breaking ability when breaking on the downhill.we have brought the car in multiple times to have the situation corrected.under warrantee agreement, rotors have been replaced a couple of times, pads replaced several times at volkswagon's expense.problem continues to occur.last service (5/10/11) at volkswagon dealership, brakes were inspected and we were told numerous problems needed fixing including front and rear rotors resurfaced, pads, etc. But even though car was still under warrantee, they would not cover the repairs and we would have to pay for them.volkswagon has records of service to our van so know of the ongoing issue with the brakes from the time we purchased it. We have spoken to other owner who is experiencing same issue with her brakes.we feel that volkswagon needs to help solve this problem as obviously replacing rotors and pads does not solve the problem.we use this car to travel between homes in ct and fl and feel that this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed.car was purchased from and serviced at volkswagon in and also serviced at in clearwater, fl.last service, when they refused to cover cost of repairs to brakes was atin fl.we have complete set of service records.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact was driving various speedand when pressure was applied to the brake pedal, there was a delayed response with an excessive vibration. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on five separate occasions who stated the brakes were not compatible for the vehicle weight capacity. The front and rear rotors were replaced five times. The manufacturer was made aware of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 200.
The rotors in my 2009 vw routan had to replaced after 3900 miles and now again at 9930 miles.the van shakes horribly when braking on the freeway or going downhill - usually associated with any speed over 40 miles an hour.the service at the dealership seemed aware that it was a continual problem.the rotors will always become warped, the van will shake, and we will have to take the van it to have to rotors adjusted - according to my records, roughly every 4000 miles.the van has 10040 miles on it and is 1 year old.
Bad rear brakes / rotors.*ln
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the brake rotors failed every 8,000 miles. The vehicle was taken toa dealer where the failure was unable to be duplicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,329.
As we are driving the power steering completely cuts off and will not let you drive - the engine shuts off and your forced into turning the vehicle completely off them back on again. This happened while on the interstate in traffic which nearly caused a collision.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagenroutan.while making a right turn at 10 mph the vehicle swerved to the right without effort.the anti-skid warning sensor illuminated on the instrument panel.after repeated brake application he was able to stop the vehicle.the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for inspection.the technician stated the failure was contributed to the steering angle sensor. No repairs were made because the part was unavailable. The failure and current mileageswere 9,000. Updated 12/7/09 updated 12/08/09

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and the power steering warning light illuminated. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,000.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While driving approximately 30 mph, the power steering failed intermittently without warning and the engine stalled. The vehicle became increasingly difficult to control. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician diagnosed that the ground strap cable needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

Van has stalled while driving on multiple occasions.power steering is lost. Vehicle will then start right back up. This is extremely dangerous for a minivan used to transport multiple children. No codes or faults are recorded.
Our routan was only going about 20 mph after pulling out of parking places and turning in to main roads the power steering, brakes, gas all stop working the car becomes impossible to turn the wheel the brakes and gas both do not work and you have to coast to a stop once stopped you have put the van in park turn key off and restart the engine. This has now happened twice in a 2 week time frame extremely concerned with two young children in the back both in car seats.what happens if i am on a freeway and this happens at 60-70mph?
Completely lost control of the vehicle (no power, no power steering) while driving 45mph on a 7 lane major street. Thankfully it was in the early morning hours and i was able to glide across the intersection to a side street where i turned the vehicle off and on and it resumed power. This has happened at least 4 more times since then, usually while idling at a red light.
We have had a problem with our volkswagen routan since nearly day one. While parked on any type of surface, (hill, or flat, down hill, or up hill). On occasion the door while opening or closing will re-close or not open. This has been very dangerous when you have a 4 year old get in the door before door has come to complete rest. The child gets in as the door opens, and the door closes back on him as it couldn't open properly. We have had it checked by vw on several occasions but was not resolved. There is something seriously wrong with these doors.
Power sliding doors can trap child or pets in their path.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While attempting to close the rear passenger side door, the contact noticed that the door would immediately reopen after being closed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the door chain and an unspecified electrical component was replaced. However the contact continued to experience the failure. The failure mileage was 150 and the current mileage was 30,000.
Sliding door locks making very loud vibrating noise when locked and fit the description of recall 10v252000 by vw for 2009 routans made in windsor canada during the second half of 2008. Says that car could catch fire but vw saus that my vin is not included some how.
2009 vw routan, electric door failure.doors fail to stop, there's no sensor, closing on your hand or whatever.also randomly fail to close, close half way, re-open, open without warning.this is unsafe.we have two small dogs, if one of the dogs accidentally steps thru the door while it's closing, it will close on the dog.i would never have bought this car if i had known.i'm thinking of having the electric doors disengaged.read that other owners had door catch fire.i want to return this car.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that the electrical sliding door would not function correctly. The sensor failed and her childs fingers and part of his body were jammed in the door. The dealer advised there were no failures in the vehicle and when contacting the manufacturer, they confirmed there were no failures within the vehicle. The failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage was 11,000.
The brackets that hold the automatic door wires brake continuously.then the wire gets pinched in the door and it causes a large amount of electrical problems.the abs, esp bad, brake, and traction control lights come on when the wire gets pinched.these doors were made very poorly and should have been looked over before this vehicle was made.
The vehicle's right-rear axle trailing arm broke while driving at a very low speed. The break is very clean and is located near the front of the trailing arm's cutout area, just behind the trailing arm mounting bracket.
In turning into a parking lot i heard a "ping" in the rear of the vehicle.i immediately felt a loss of control in the rear suspension.it was clear that the vehicle was not roadworthy at that point and we had it towed to a repair shop.we were informed that the rear axle had broken.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While driving approximately 35 mph the front drivers side tire blew out. The contact removed the tire and replaced it with the spare tire. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technicians stated the tire sensor valve had corroded causing the tire to blow out. The technicians stated that the repair was not covered under warranty. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the valve was replaced witha rubber valve instead of the aluminum valve that was originally on the vehicle which had a sensor attached to it. The sensor was not replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 33,000.
Was traveling approximately 65 mph on i-90 in nys. Dashboard indicated there was an issue with the tire pressure. Pulled to the side of the road, checked pressure. Tires seemed fine. Drove approximately 4 miles and the tire went completely flat almost instantaneously. Luckily i was in a spot that i could pull over. Placed spare "doughnut" on van and drove directly to dunn tire. Dunn tire professional indicated that the tps was corroded, fell off and popped the tire. The three other tps on the other tires were also examined. The tire professional indicated that they were corroded as well.
While trying to check the tire pressure, the valve stems broke off on two of the tires (one in the front, one in the rear) causing the tires to deflate completely within 10 seconds. Had this occurred while driving the vehicle, this incident would likely have rendered the vehicle uncontrollable with potentially serious consequences to the health and safety of passengers and others. The dealer will replace the valves but has advised me that this issue is not covered by warranty. Since my vehicle is probably not the only one affected i will try to carry this to a higher level through my dealership.
2009 volkswagen routan.consumer writes in regards to replacements of tire valve stems.the consumer stated within the last ten months, she had to replace the valve stems and tire sensors three times due to disintegration of the valve stems, twice on the right front tire.the first time the incident happened, the low tire pressure light illuminated. The consumer stopped and checked the tires. The right front tire appeared to be low. When she attempted to attach the air hose, the tire immediately went flat and the valve stem sucked into the tire.the second time, the low tire light illuminated, she stopped and observed the right front tire was low. The tire was going flat, as she approached the service station. Aaa removed the cap to the valve stem which disintegrated immediately.the slow leak resulted in the consumer having to purchase a new tire, valve and tire sensor.the third time, the tire light illuminated again. It was determined the valve stem was leaking .the consumer was informed the replacement of the valve stems was a frequent occurrence, the metal valve stems were apparently inferior to traditional rubber stems.
Two tires have blown out on my routan due to corroded valve stems.the first time, on 3/16/11, i had just pulled into a parking lot when i heard a loud noise and felt my tire go flat. Belle tire told me that the valve stem had corroded and popped off, essentially blowing out my tire.stupidly, i didn't think anything of it.the second time happened on 12/31/11.my 19-year-old daughter was driving the routan on an expressway where the speed limit is 70 mph.. She said she heard a loud noise, and then the car started veering.she managed to keep control of the routan and get it over to the side of the road, where the tire was flat and shredded.again, belle tire told us that the valve stem had corroded and fell off, blowing out the tire. A third valve stem and nut on the routan is cracked and corroded.they also told us that general motors and ford have switched to rubber valve stems because of this problem. Contacted vw.they looked at the car.the will not fix the problem.this car is an accident waiting to happen.
While putting air in my tires, the valve stem broke off of the tire while trying to remove the cap off of the stem and the tire deflated almost instantly.after looking at the broken valve stem, it appears like the cap and stem became corroded and was completely welded together.i still have this cap that broke off if it is needed for an investigation.
The valve stem broke off when i went to put air in it and the tire (front driver side) immediately deflated. The valve stem is metal and apparently corroded. About a month later the rear driver side began to leak and had to be replaced. Then today (3/4/14) the valve stem broke off the passenger front tire when i went to unscrew the cap (i could hear air hissing out before i even touched it). If this had happened while driving, i could have had a serious accident.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact shifted into neutral and the vehicle started normally. The stability and traction control indicators illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred approximately six times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
I took my van into the vw dealer to get the safety recall #28h1 performed to replace the ignition switch.the dealer discovered that there was an aftermarket remote start installed and told me that they will not perform the recall service until i get all the wiring connectors back to stock. I took up this issue with thevw corporate office and they gave me the same answer.i don't see how this aftermarket remote starterabsolves vw from the responsibility to perform the safety recall. It is their defective part that needs to be replaced. I told the dealer that i don't care about the remote starter, i just want the safety recall to be done as they are responsible to do.
The ignition switch has failed multiple times leaving us stranded. We have had the vehicle towed. Our mechanic has run multiple diagnostics to no avail, they replaced the starter and we continue to experience ignition failure. At times, the car will start and not go into gear. We have been able to get it into gear by turning it off and back on again, assuming it will turn back on again. There is danger in being stranded far from home with children in the car.
Won't shift gears...... Numerous time had to quickly pull over side to shut the engine off and restart. Sometime it works sometimes it won't .
Passenger side power sliding door wire harness keeps coming out of place and getting caught in door. Local dealer claims this has already been repaired under the recall but it is still happening.
The vehicles stalls out while driving, power steering goes out, brakes stop working....very dangerous - 2015 ignition switch recall (win module) did not fix this problem.chrysler knows this, vw knows this - common problem is 2009-2010 models - these are family vehicles - someone is going to be killed soon because of this issue!
The car does not start after a stop. It takes hours before it restarts. Replaced battery, starter still same issue. Many other vw routan owners have the same issue. The car has power but something is messed up in this car.
Vehicle stalled several times approximately february 17, 2015.then finally wouldn't start at all. Emergency road side assistance came got car started.then while driving dashboard started blinking power was lost car cut off. Had to contact road side assistance again to have cart towed to repair facility. Could not find out problem suggested to be towed to dealer. Dealer couldn't find the problem initially then found it made repairs which i found out later it was partly due to the recall (28h1.) then approximately the middle of july 2015 car began to stall again when trying to start.contacted vwoa made arrangement to have recall repair done again. It lasted approximately 7 weeks later september 2015 and once again the car is periodically stallingwhen trying to start. If this is electrical again if this problem continues to occur will it eventually loose power and disable the car all together and be in a life threatening situation again.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle independently accelerated to 85 mph. The contact depressed the brakes continually until the vehicle came to a stop. The brake warning light was also illuminated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 34,000.
On 6/21/15, i was driving on the highway with cruise control set at approximately 75mph. I was not accelerating, nor had my foot on the gas or brake petal. Without any warning, the gas petal pushed to the floor and the vehicle began accelerating quickly. I immediately turned on my hazards and turned off the cruise, but the vehicle continued to accelerate in excess of 100mph. I feared colliding with other drivers on the two-laned highway, and began braking against the car's acceleration, which was quite difficult. I pushed the brake petal down as hard as i could, which stopped further acceleration; but did not slow the vehicle quickly. The vehicle continued to rev up and tried relentlessly to accelerate against my best efforts to brake. I was able to move the vehicle to the gravel shoulder. Once i was able to slow the vehicle to around 20mph, i turned off the vehicle and coasted to a stop. There was a strong smell of smoke from the brakes. I believed the problem was related to a cruise control malfunction or a related sensor. I discontinued using the cruise at any time. However, on 7/9/15, the same problem occurred. This time, the cruise was not set, and the vehicle was traveling at approximately 50mph in heavy traffic during rush hour on a three lane freeway. The same steps noted above slowed the vehicle after it began accelerating out of control, making it difficult to navigate through the surrounding vehicles. The gas petal was again stuck to the floor and could not be pulled up. After the second occurrence, there is likely significant damage to the brakes and/or engine. I contacted a volkswagen dealership, that plans to diagnose the vehicle. I am fearful of driving the vehicle to the dealership, but was instructed by the vw sales manager to bring the vehicle in for inspection and be sure to turn the key to "off" or "accessory" should the problem occur again.
Back up camera on the volkswagen routan minivan is unusable.video has no contrast, low color level, lacks detail, wrong colors, etc.this camera is a hazard for anyone that tries to use it for backing up. Same camera as on all chrysler minivans.additionally when thevan is equipped with the camera, they delete the backup sensors, leaving no aids for determining if the blind spots are clear.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. When the vehicle was started, the windshield wipers started to operate independently and the instrument panel, turn signals, and air conditioner failed to operate. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the front driver's side tire went flat. The contact installed the spare tire and took the tire to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The contact was informed that the valve stem had become extremely corroded. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The failure and current mileage was 52,000.
I have a volkswagen 2009 vw routon van...aka rebadged chrysler mini van.the oemtpms has a non-anodized aluminum valve retaining nut which cracked and caused a deflation at highway speed on the front driver side tire. To have a safety device that causes an unsafe condition and a catastrophic failure that could lead to injury or death is unacceptable.i have inspected the other three retaining nuts on the valve stems and found one that iscracked and the others have severe corrosion that will need repaired and replaced.a rubber and brass valve stem that was true and tried and "safe" for so many yearswas the accepted norm to be replaced when you put new tires on a vehicle.i now find myself asking, have engineers ignored and forgottenthe principles of corrosion and the environment has on aluminum metals to make such a tire pressure monitoring system, that is set up to fail?
Recently i noticed a low tire pressure on the left front wheel of my volkswagen routan. When i attempted to add air to the tire, the stem pushed into the wheel and the tire deflated. The metal tire pressure stem is attached to tire pressure sensing units on each wheel.when i examined the stem i noticed that the nut that locks the stem in position had disintegrated from corrosion.the only thing holding the stem in position was the pressure within the tire. When the stem was touched and moved, the tire immediately deflated.i found the same defect on the other wheels. Any contact with the tire pressure servicing stem, caused the retaining nut to break off into pieces.each stem and retaining nut showed signs of severe corrosion.due to the extreme high cost of replacement sensors, i was forced to replace the sensors with standard rubber tire stems. The vehicle is a 2009 with only 36,000 miles. The vehicle is exposed to road salt and im sure that accelerated the corrosion of the attaching nut, but this is a serious design flaw that might result in a tire deflation without warning. I feel these sensors are defective and need to be recalled.this is a single vehicle with low mileage, having four severely corroded and failed tire pressure sensors. I suspect there are many others. These faulty sensors could very well be the cause of a serious accident or injury.it seems to be a known issue with the car dealer but i dont believe there is any specific inspection or service requirements for these valves/sensors.the parts are marked with the following identification numbers: daimler chrysler 56053031ad#0193ht-2siemens vdoi have saved the failed parts and i will provide them if required.
The contact owns 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated that three of the tire pressure monitoring air valves fractured. The contact stated that two of the failures occurred while placing air in the tires and another failed on its own. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician replaced the valve stems but failed to indicate what caused the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen routan. The contact stated the tire pressure monitor failed due to corrosion. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who stated the failure was caused by the tps system valve stem nut which was corroded. The contact also stated that the drivers rear tire blew out due to the nut corrosion. The vehicle was repaired. The tire pressure valves were replaced. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 74,000.
In january of 2012 we started to notice a noise coming from the wheels of our vehicle.we at first thought it might be a chunk of snow caught in the wheel well but when we arrived home there was nothing there.over the next couple of days the noise got significantly louder to be point you could not even hear the radio when it was turned on.i took it to a local shop where i was told both my front wheel bearings were bad and would need to be replace the rear wheel bearings would need to be replace soon also as they were going back as well.the technician was going to check with vw on an extended warranty of the assembly as they are the same ones that were given an extended warranty by the chrysler group because of poor makeup.vw stated that they are aware of the issue but is not honoring the same extended warranty.the letter on fill from chrysler is csc-10037659-4297.this is a youtube video that i found with the same issue as my vehicle;http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqrsfmlkmre
While driving on the i-94 in sheboygan, wi, my tire pressure light went on.i stopped at a valvoline tire and lube to have the tires looked at as my rear tire was almost flat.the person was unable to fill the tire with air because the valve stem was pushed completely into the tire and there was no way to fill the tire.at closer inspection all four tire valve stems and sensor assemblies were corroded to the point that they would all need to be replaced immediately.vw stated that this is not a warranty or recall issue and that it would cost over $200 each with labor.i was told by the technician that if the stem would have completely broke while driving down the road it would have lost pressure right away and could have cause an accident.
