The contact owned a 2009 volkswagen rabbit. The contact stated that her husband crashed into a tractor trailer at an unknown speed and only one of the eight air bags deployed. The only air bag that deployed was in the steering wheel. The axles on the tractor trailer fractured and the contact's husband was killed in the crash. A police report was filed. There were no other injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer and the deceased husband were drug tested, but the results were not yet available. The vehicle was totaled and towed. There were no recalls on the vehicle. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 130,000.

I had observed twice that the abs and brake system lights illuminated under heavy braking. I read the service manual and several vw forums and my understanding was that this was normal under what is called 'emergency break'. I both cases turning the ignition off and on again restored the car to normal.on february 2013 the abs/esc system failed and the car crashed against a wall while braking before a turn. Airbags did not deploy. We were two passengers on board: brian foxe and myself. Fortunately, none got hurt although i had to be picked up by paramedics. We both have taken that turn many times and we could not explain what went wrong went we used the brakes before the turn. We never understood what happened until i got the recall. Since then, the abs failure had caused at least the following:-suffering from the crash and incredible amounts of stress which required therapy-i had to buy another car asap and i bought another 2007 rabbit -the 2009 rabbit was finally put back together on julyaugust 2013 -the 2009 rabbit would lose abs/esc at the sightless break so it has been sitting as a backup car since then.-the car was serviced for a transmission issue on 2016 (volkswagen customer care 160612855) and after it came back from the dealer the symptoms disappeared. That makes me believe that either:ovw knew about abs/esc issues (safety recall 45f2) and preventively updated the ecu.othe ecu was updated as a routine or as part of the transmission service.as per today, i believe i have a rabbit that has already had the ecu upgraded and cannot be diagnosed anymore. However, i have evidence and witnesses of what happened

2009 volkswagen rabbit. Consumer writes in regards to side airbags not deploying during crash *tgwthe consumer stated her son was hit by a pick-up making a left turn out of a parking lot into oncoming traffic. The consumer stated her son was involuntary forced from the north bound lane into the center turn lane with the driver's nose of the car slightly over the yellow dotted line into oncoming traffic. The damage was located at the front passenger side tire/door. The vehicle had to be towed because the rim was bent.

Took my vehicle in as the abs, brake, esp/asr lights came on and were beeping.replaced the rotors, brake pads, etc. When i came back to pick up my vehicle, the vag com had multiple faults still showing, come to find out i need the control panel replaced.vehicle has less than 59k miles, dozens of folks have reported a similar situation in 2009 vw model cars, abs system malfunctioning w less than 60k miles

Driving into a curve, my abs brake module failed, turning off my traction control, abs disabling my power steering. As i was trying to come out of the curve, the steering failed to respond temporarily. I almost t-boned another vehicle, scaring that driver to death...i was able to pull the car out of the turn, over correcting almost putting it in a a ditch... This is a known issue.

The vehicle turned in accessories, beeping occurs and a wrench appears on the instrument panel, abs, traction control, and e-brake light blinks. Did some research and found out mkv models from vw all have the same issue causing the abs pump/computer to fail.

The abs brake warning light came on....followed by steering light, engine light speedometer failing, gas warning light on, now my car will not start and the key is stuck to the ignition. My power windows not working properly ....all started from the abs brakewarning light

I got problems on abs system module that's why my rabbit2009start all the lights on the dashboard and lose the control including the speed meter.cant you help me with that's occured when i'm driving on a highway to my job.

2009 vw 2l rabbit:driving home in the rain, my car has under 80k.the speed limit is 45, but in the rain, i was doing closer to 40. The street is a fairly trafficked road, double yellow each direction single lane expanding to double lane, concrete islands, and stoplights. Total drive before first shimmy was probably about the 4mile mark. The abs light comes on, the esp/asr comes on, and the "brake" to the right of that starts flashing in red.the car shimmied when this started, and then the brakes worked but were squishy/sloppy getting to a place to stop.i was informed to get the car towed to the dealership. The dash lights start to flicker. At the dealership they say it is the whole abs module, and replacing it will cost about as much as the car.they say it is safe to drive: i drive home, because they say the abs is not connected to vital functions, and electronics.the dash light clears....drive home.light comes back on , car wiggles and fishtails, and brakes are squishy and not as responsive.dash is flickering.i went online and found this is a 2009 known problem.i call the dealership back: because they are in process of a recall (i found out on this website). I am told i am sol because it is not completed yet, so i can pay for their arm and leg, and perhaps, if the gods are kind, i will get some re-imbursment at a later date.(but don't count on it)all of the fishtailing, and electrical flashing, are done at speeds of under 45mph.the fact that this is intermittent (but probably about to become permanent) is scary!if i had been driving during high traffic times today, it could have been a very ugly accident.

The key is stuck in the ignition and will not turn to turn the car off and will not come out. The vehicle was parked and turned off prior to this. When the car was turned on, everything seemed fine until i tried to turn the car off. At this point, the key would not turn down to turn off the ignition, and as a result the car could not be turned off. At the time of this happening, the steering wheel was not locked and the car was in park.

While driving at a normal speed of 45mph, the car began to shake slightly. All of the instrument panel lights flashed on, and the fuel gauge along with the speedometer began to fail. As a result, the car needed to be pulled over and stopped in order to prevent a serious accident from occurring.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen rabbit. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the speed odometer went to zero and the vehicle failed to accelerate forward. Several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle had not been repaired nor diagnosed. A dealer was not contacted. The contact mentioned nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control) as a possible solution to the failure however, the vin was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The mileage was approximately 115,000.

While driving around town using the heated seats the passenger seat caught on fire.the cabin filled up with thick smoke and we could not breath. We had to stop the car in the middle of the road.my wife jumped out of the car and we put out the fire.this is a known vw problem that had a full recall in canada.astonishingly, there seems to be no mention of this problem on the nhtsa web site.the local vw dealer denied all knowledge of any heated seats catching fire but they instantlygave me a $755.00 quote to fix the problem with a firm estimate of four hours to replace the electrical elements in the seat.although the vw dealer had no knowledge of this type of problem they seem to have intimate knowledge of exactly how to repair the seat.very curious indeed......

The traction control on my vehicle initially did not turn on even after pressing the button that turns the esc on and off. After not being able to activate it, my abs, break light, esc, and steering wheel lights have come on. Now my vehicle looses traction if i make a fast turn. My steering has also become really stiff. When the vehicle is stationary, the fuel meter goes down despite the fact that the car has fuel. Lastly, the speedometer goes up and down while being stationed.this same problem regarding the abs control module has effected hundreds of 2009 volkswagen owners and despite the documented evidence, volkswagen has refused to cover this under a recall.

I just purchased my used 2009 vw rabbit. The abs light came on, traction, break light, esp. Went to the dealership and they stated the abs pump was not functioning. Many volkswagen owners with cars within the abs recall years have the same exact issue and volkswagens recall will only cover the module portion and not the abs pump (of course the most expensive part). I was quoted an insane price for the repairs and the part that needs repairs, when purchased, just happens to come with the recalled part (the electronic module). I called volkswagen and they stated that the recall was only for tge electronic portion and i would have to take care of the pump. I believe this faulty electronic module has everything to do with the pump failing.

As per nhtsa 16v-913 my volkswagen rabbit has been presenting the symptoms stated in the safety recall. The abs light, electronic stability control, and brake light have come on numerous times and hard braking, and in not so hard braking in the snow. He problem has progressively worsened to the point that these lights no longer go out after and ignition cycle. I am essentially driving without abs or stability control, one of the main reasons i purchased this car. The code for u0121 lost communication with anti-lock brake system (abs) control module no longer clear with a hand held code reader or a laptop running ross-tech's vcds software. I took my broken volkswagen to danbury vw in danbury ct to perform the safety recall (16v-913). Because of not being able to communicate with the abs control module to upload the new software, they have denied the recall and say i must foot the bill to replace the module so they can then upload the new software to see if they get the code for faulty solder joint. Volkswagen is trying to side step this issue. I believe my car would have been able to upload the software when this issue first started happening, but now the abs control module has completely failed, probably due to the bad solder compound. Now they are denying claims, i am not the only one. The nthsa needs to look deeper into this problem.

The current recall (manufacturer recall 45f2, nhtsa recall 16v913) for the known abs control module faulty grounding issue is woefully inadequate, as it allows those already suffering from the faults that the software update is designed to be more sensitive to are unable to receive satisfaction. If either or both of the faults that would necessitate a module replacement after a software update are present prior to the software update, the software update cannot be performed & volkswagen will take no further action. Essentially, those vehicles that have a module that has already failed are not being repaired while those that have not yet failed (but may be susceptible or starting to fail) are being repaired. These specific faults (01130 - 125/4th and/or 16352 - 96/4th) are for detecting a bad ground due to an improper solder used in the modules. It should not matter if those faults are present prior to a software update or after a software update that is ostensibly designed simply to better detect those exact faults. The fault begins as an intermittent fault that is caused by hard braking or hitting a bump but can be cleared by a vehicle restart. Over time, if the module is not replaced, the solder on the ground degrades further & the fault becomes more semi-constant & cannot be simply cleared. The way that the current recall is worded allows vw to deny the recall work simply because of the degree of degradation to the grounds. Over time, this fault can interfere with the speedometer, tachometer and transmission shifting of automatic transmission vehicles. And on both automatic & manual transmission vehicles, causes a very unsafe failure of the traction control system when cornering or stopping in normal daily road conditions (brakes locking, rear-end losing traction, etc)

When driving, my 09 rabbit, the power staring light will flash yellow to red and then stay red, i'm jerked to the side, right and left . On some occasions when making a right turn, it feels as though i'm being sling shot forward, i have a terrible wobble and when this happens i cannot accelerate over 45 without the car sounding like a helicopter, my ac and abs light will flash on then off sporadically. My transmission slips periodically and this happens regardless if i'm on the highway or city streets.i have been to four mechanics, i've had the right front axle replaced, tires rotated and balanced, a new battery and a front end alignment. Luckily the last mechanici took the car to hooked it up to his machine and got codes for the electronic stability control malfunction and abs module malfunction. I have checked the recall site and both modules have been recalled for my make, model and year, however my vin is not included.

In snowy conditions the abs fails and completely shuts down until i restart the car.seems to be dangerous, especially driving in snowy/icy conditions.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen rabbit. The contact stated that the steering column moved independently. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control); however, the dealer refused to perform the repair. The contact stated that volkswagen of edmond (14220 broadway extension hwy) diagnosed that before they could perform the remedy, the abs pump needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

The abs, brake, and stability control warning lamps came on during a scary event on the expressway. I hit the brake pedal hard and quickly turned the steering wheel in order to avoid hitting a car that swerved across two lanes and cut in front of me. The abs and stability control systems failed, but the hydraulic brake system worked like a car without electronic controls, so i was able to control the car while braking and steering near the traction limit. The problem is that the lamps stayed on until i turned off the engine. There was no abs or stability control system while the lights were on. I cycled the key to test the lamps. The lamps functioned correctly during the bulb test and turned off after a few seconds. On the first repair attempt, the wheel hubs, bearings, and wheel speed sensor rotors/exciter rings/tone rings were inspected. Any road debris, dust, dirt, and magnetic particles were removed. There was no looseness, end play, or runout. The wheel speed sensors were removed, cleaned, and installed, but the symptom returned during another scary event. On the second repair attempt, the abs control module (electronic black box component, not hydraulic control component) had a software failure per vw tech support analyzing the failure conditions, visual indicators (warning lamps), audio indicators (warning tones), and scan tool codes. The abs control module was replaced.

The vehicle turned in accessories, beeping occurs and a wrench appears on the instrument panel, abs, traction control, and e-brake light blinks. Did some research and found out mkv models from vw all have the same issue causing the abs pump/computer to fail.

My car has been running fine since purchase and i have had all the necessary maintenance done to prevent issues.last week while driving on a major highway my cars steering wheel locked as well as stalled almost causing a major accident.when i looked it up it seems that this vehicle has been issue with campaign number: 10v621000.albeit this is not the same issue but my vehicle has experienced fuel leakage at the same time and i have reason to believe that they are interrelated.beyond that, there have been several complaints about the same issue on many vw forums.this is a major issue and a huge safety problem.could you imagine the lives that could have perished if i had not handled that situation effectively.i am now told that i need to replace this part for $2000 where i truly believe volkswagen should be held liable.this company has shady business practices and i would not be surprised if this issue is due to a defective part.my car was bought in 2009 and has 76,000 miles on it.

Electrical problems have been constant since purchasing (i.e. The check engine light coming on for no apparent reason during long trips, the prnd lights lighting all at once at random). These issues were not much of a problem until recently. I startedthe car and immediately the abs, traction control, andbrake lights lit up and the car made 3 "beeps". I turned the car off and on again, and the same thing happened and continued. I then drove on the freeway for about 10 miles when the steering, and epc lights came on. Simultaneously, the speedometer and gas gauges dropped to zero and the car would not accelerate. The steering became slow to respond/delayed. Luckily there were not many cars on the road and i safely pulled to the shoulder. I safely drove the car home that day, but my husband experienced the same issues when he tried to drive the car the day after. After researching these symptoms online, i found that this is a very common problem for 2009 gti and rabbit models, and that, while this malfunction makes the car unsafe to drive, vw will not help consumers with the estimated $2k repair costs.

Abs brake module. Computer loses communication with abs brake module, power steering is disabled, electronic stability control is disabled odometer and speedometer become diabled. When this happens it can cause over steer and under steer. Almost caused accident on two occasions. Recall sent, vw still won't fix the issue. Previous complaint listed.

The abs brake warning light came on....followed by steering light, engine light speedometer failing, gas warning light on, now my car will not start and the key is stuck to the ignition. My power windows not working properly ....all started from the abs brakewarning light

The abs module in my vehicle failed around 90,000 miles, which i'm now discovering is a very common for this particular model and year. The abs system ceased to function but other systems were affected as well; my speedometer would stop working for several minutes at a time, as well as my fuel gauge. Power steering would cut out and i would experience a considerable loss of power from the engine. I was nearly hit while crossing a busy intersection because i couldn't get any acceleration from the car. The check engine light has also been triggered intermittently by this problem so i haven't been able to pass a smog check, making my vehicle illegal to drive in the state of california where i'm stationed with the marines. Volkswagen dealerships are charging more than $1,500 to fix the issue and there has been no recall issued for the problem.

Abs module. The abs light and other lights came on. Vw released a recall. After taking it to the dealership they said they will only replace for free if there is an issue with the ground on the module. They are trying to charge $1500+ to replace the module.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen rabbit. The contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). The contact took the vehicle to crestmont volkswagen (730 nj-23, pompton plains, nj 07444, (973) 839-4000). After updating the software for the abs, the dealer discovered that the abs hydraulic pump was not working and would cost $2,500 to repair. The dealer stated that the failure was not related to the recall. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 127,000.

Abs brake module failed deactivating esc and power steering causing unexpected over steer and under steer, causing momentary loss of control of vehicle. Recall issued and new software flashed to module. Vwoa failed to replace faulty module problem still exists. Failure occurred on a clear dry afternoon in city driving at 45 miles an hour in a curve. Almost put vehicle in ditch.

Abs, traction control & handbrake lights turned on in the middle of driving. Nearly had accident because abs did not activate when needed. Me and my family were in significant danger. Upon mechanic inspection the abs module has failed.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen rabbit. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle lost steering ability. In addition, the anti-lock brake system, electronic stability control, and steering wheel indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (fairfield volkswagen, 96065 dixie highway, fairfield, oh 45014) where it was awaiting diagnostic testing and repairs. The contact also stated that the vehicle was taken to joseph volkswagen of cincinnati (3813 montgomery road, cincinnati, oh 45212) where it was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control) on may 17, 2018. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

I own a 2009 vw rabbit.about a year after owning it, i started noticing a moldy smell in the car every time i turned on the air conditioner and/or the heat.i took the car into the dealer and they said there was mold in the air conditioning unit and they would clean it.when i picked it up, i asked what was the problem, and they said i need to turn off the defroster/air conditioner a few minutes before turning off the car so any moisture drains out.in essence, there is no cure, just a fix.i wasn't happy with the response.when i entered my car to leave, it smelled from some perfume they used to mask the mold smell.i am allergic to mold and mildew and have a variety of allergies.i had to leave the car windows open for a week to get rid of that odor.now that it's fall, the weather is cooler and i'm using the heater.although i haven't noticed the mold smell yet, i'm noticing headaches and sinus problems since i've been driving with the heater.i've driven american cars for 45 cars and never experienced this problem.i like the car otherwise, but cannot tolerate this problem.why can't it be fixed permanently?i noticed complaints about the problem going back to at least 2002.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen rabbit. He stated that the vehicle was equipped with a knock sensor and it would limit the engine rpms and it would not allow the vehicle to down shift. He confirmed when activated, the amount of fuel passing through the fuel lines wouldbe limited and when passing another vehicle, his vehicle would not accelerate. The manufacturer advised the dealer to retorque the knock sensor under an unknown manufacturers service bulletin. The vehicle was released to the owner, however the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer a second time who stated that they would replace the knock sensor under the manufacturers warranty. The contact was awaiting repairs, to date. The failure and current mileages were under 5,600. Updated 04/20/10. *ljupdated 09/21/10

Last month the passenger side back rear door stopped locking, even after pressing the lock button. We took it to the shop and paid $400+ to have it fixed. A month later, the driver side rear door decides to stop locking. One door is understandable, but the fact that both doors stopped locking within two months of each other is pretty suspicious. Sounds like a solid case of negligence on volkswagens part.

After driving at approx. 70- 80 mph on highway for over 1 hour and stopping would feel off after coming to an a complete stop from traffic or exiting the freeway, and then the car had trouble revving up - couldn't accelerate and difficult to drive as it would be hard to get up to even 30 mph - seemed to go into a false neutral. First few times it would return to normal if i turned off the engine for 15 minutes.the last time it happened, it happened twice in one day and would only go back to normal if engine was off for a couple of hours.happened about a couple of handful of times in the course of a couple of years - each time was frightening and almost got into bad accidents.first time it happened i was at about 40,000 miles.last time it happened, i was at about 76,000 miles.dealership was unable to replicate the issue or find any apparent problems when servicing the vehicle.not a turbo vehicle so they told me not dsg or mechatronic issues.basically, drive at your own risk.

My car is a2009 vw rabbit at the time of the incident it had about 10,000 miles. I was in gridlock traffic on 1-84 on july 3rd, 2009. As i was waiting in traffic, i noticed a burning smell and that when i engaged the clutch the rpm's would rev but it took the car a bit of time to move. I called the dealership to set an appointment but they were dismissive about the whole incident. Then on 8/30/09 on a trip from schoon lake ny to bethel, ct the clutch failed. At the beginning of my trip from schroon lake, ny to bethel, ct, i noticed that when i depressed the clutch it would stay pressed to the floor and would not change gears. This was the only occurrence so i assumed it was safe to continue traveling. Midway through my trip as i was on the taconic state parkway the clutch pedal when pressed stayed depressed and would not come back up and the car would not go into gear at all. I had to make an emergency stop on the side of the road and wait for assistance because the car was no longer drivable. I had the car towed to the dealership who then insisted that it was driver abuse and not faulty parts. I did extensive research online and found other vw drivers who experienced the same issues with their cars and who the dealership would not rectify the situation. What the problem seems to be is the dual mass flywheel has a tendency to overheat affecting the pressure plates and the master and slave cylinder which can make it appear to be driver abuse when in fact it is not. I have driven two toyota tercels(1991 and 1997) both manuals prior to this car for a total of 15 years and both fitted with hydraulic clutches and never had a problem. In fact both clutches lasted over 100,000 miles. After many discussions with the dealership who refused to cover the part under warranty, i contacted my insurance and the part was covered under my mechanical breakdown insurance. The dealership replaced the dual mass flywheel and the clutch disc and i currently have the replaced parts.

Heated seats burned hole through seat, can cause potential for burning those sitting in the seat with the heated seats turned on. Can potentially cause vehicle fire if the cloth material catches fire.

Abs module failure occurred 10 days after replacing battery and alternator.i have nearly crashed quite a few times when braking (not hard) due to the wheels locking up and car begins to fish tail, this occurs on dry or wet pavement.mostly take back roads when driving as i am unsure how safe my car is on the interstate and if sudden braking is needed how my car will fair.

Abs ,, electronic stability control is blinking, thats mean the abs module is fail

Abs module. The abs light and other lights came on. Vw released a recall. After taking it to the dealership they said they will only replace for free if there is an issue with the ground on the module. They are trying to charge $1500+ to replace the module.

I believe the faulty abs was the reason i got in a car accident on dec 20, 2016 and again on march 14, 2017.on dec 20, i was driving on the highway in chicago, after recent snow, so roads were a little wet.2 other cars hit each other in front of me, so i pressed the brake pedalwith more than enough distance between me and them to stop in time in most correctly functioning cars.when i put brakes on, i realized i wasn't slowing down quick enough, and ended up hitting the car in front of me.i originally attributed it to conditions, but now i believe bad abs allowed this accident to happen.on march 14, i was also driving on the highway after recent snow, and a little snow fell on the lane in front of me (i think from 18-wheel truck in right lane), i applied brakes, started fishtailing, and ended up loosing control and ended up doing 180 before another car hit me.both times driving speed was slow, nobody got hurt in accidents.again, i've driven in rain, sleet, snow, and ice alot of the years and never had problems, so i believe the bad abs allowed this accident to happen

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen rabbit. The contact took the vehicle to mckenna volkswagen (18303 studebaker road, cerritos ca, 90703, 1-855-995-7761) for nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control) in 2017. The vehicle failed the diagnostic module test and the dealer refused to replace the abs control module as stated in the recall. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 95,000.

Put on brakes suddenly. Car spun out of control to the left hitting a highway divider and then to the right hitting a car. My car was totaled and the ins. Co. Paid me the full market value for it. This happened twice before about 6 month and 5 years ago with no damage to the car.

I received notice feb. 2017, for recall due to "safety recall 45f2-abs control module software".upon taking to dealership per letter instructions, informed that "software fix" would be attempted.if not sufficient hardware part would need to be ordered.car returned with "brake light flashing and abs/skid lights on".part was ordered but no eta date is available.this has been going on for a week now.calls to vw corporate has been to no satisfaction.there simply is a "back order" on the part.this is unacceptable to put out a recall and not have the needed part!meantime driving car with flashing warning lights!while a courtesy car has been offered, why would i give them my vehicle for an unknown amount of time!is this going to go on for 3 weeks?3 months? a year?no one can give me an answer.i feel the car should not have been tampered with if the needed part was not in stock!shame on vw for issuing a recall and not having the parts ready to ship.didn't they learn anything from all these other recalls that have happened!?!how many cars are now on the road with no abs system in place?????vw needs to be held accountable for this poor execution of a recall and servicing its customers in a timely fashion.what can you do to help?

Vehicle was taken to a volkswagen dealership to perform an abs software update as per the volkswagen recall notice.prior to service, vehicle did not display any warning lights or alarms sounds that would indicate service needed.per the dealership, the abs software update was performed and as a result a failure code was detected that did not match the failure code identified per the recall test plan.per the dealership, the abs repair and software update could not be completed because the failure code found is not identified per the recall test plan.per the dealership, there is no understanding of the fault code received, whether it may have been the result of the software update, or perhaps an error performed by the technician, and that no further diagnostics would be performed.per the dealership, the abs needs to repair at the expense of the vehicle owner and that the drivability of the vehicle may be a concern.dealership instructed vehicle owner to contact volkswagen customer service to determine if service could be performed and expense covered by the manufacturer warranty.per volkswagen customer service, there is no understanding as to why the fault code was detected after performing the abs software update and that additional service, including diagnostics, would not be performed other than at the expense of the vehicle owner.at vehicle ignition, the abs and brake warning lights are flashing and the alarm sound is heard.the abs and brake warning lights continue to flash while the vehicle is in operation and motion.

My abs brake pump and/or control module have failed at 75k miles.i purchased this car for my children and used the iihs safety rating when selecting it.the repair is over $2000.i've read countless threads of vw owners with similar problems on multiple models.i've contacted vw and even wrote their executive team and was told there was nothing they would do.with so many such issues reported, i believe it's time for nhtsa to act on behalf of vw owners whose vehicles should be repaired at vw's expense.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen rabbit. While driving various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to engage while making right or left turns and traveling downhill. The abs warning indicator illuminated. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was unknown. Updated 02/22/2017*ct*as

In snowy conditions the abs fails and completely shuts down until i restart the car.seems to be dangerous, especially driving in snowy/icy conditions.

While driving at a normal speed of 45mph, the car began to shake slightly. All of the instrument panel lights flashed on, and the fuel gauge along with the speedometer began to fail. As a result, the car needed to be pulled over and stopped in order to prevent a serious accident from occurring.

My 2009 vw rabbit has had intermittent abs issues for a few months now. The car has 67k miles. Occasionally, when the abs activates the the dash will light up with the abs, brake, and esp light. The car will also beeps a few times. After this happens, the car will have no abs or stability control. Restarting the car will make the lights turn off, but the issue will happen again when the abs is activated.

The abs control has failed (diagnosed by volkswagen dealership), abs, traction control and brake lights are on, speedimoter is always on zero, the car looses steering control

About 4 years ago, i was driving on the freeway, heading home from work. The cars ahead had hit their brakes, so i began to hit my brakes and immediately felt them lock up and my car began fishtailing. It then spun around 180 degrees, inches away from hitting a truck behind me head-on. After this point, i was always weary of hitting my brakes in an emergency situation because i never felt i had control of the car. It wasn't until i researched the abs issues with vw did i realize this could have been directly related to the faulty piece.in july of 2017, the abs and brake lights came on while we were leaving a parking lot, and stayed on. These lights were accompanied by the check engine, epc, air bag, gas and steering system lights, and the speedometer also stopped working. The car also began to handle strangely, and wouldn't rev higher than 4000 rpms. After researching what could be causing this, we came across many abs module failures that sounded exactly like what we had happening. We then came across the vw abs module recall from 5 months before, and after calling vw to verify we indeed were part of the recall, they told us to take the car to a dealer and they would take care of it.we made the appointment, and took the car in. The car was in their shop for 3 days before they let us know that we didn't fall under the recall requirements, and vw was in fact not going to fix anything with the abs module. Instead, they gave us a $1400 quote to fix the faulty module.we are now stuck paying nearly half of what the car is worth to make it safe to drive, even though there are many issues with their abs module, and they initially told us we qualified to get it fixed.

5/31/18 took car in for the abs module recall. They did a "system update"less then six months later when driving all of a sudden every light on the dash started flashing and the car became difficult to steer and break so we immediately took it to the dealership. At first they said it needed the fans replaced so we paid $980.88 to have that done. When driving the car home from the dealership all the lights started flashing again and so we took it back to the dealership and after two weeks at the dealership and "39 different communication codes" they said the abs module failed completely and needs replaced.i called cooperate vw for help but cooperate vw refuses to replace the module as part of the recall because " it doesn't show a certain code" and "it didn't fail at the time they did the system update". This is over a $2000.00 fix and we are unable to afford it. I am left paying on a car i still owe $4000.00 on that isn't safe to drive because i can't afford an additional $2000.00 to fix a know problem that volkswagen won't fix.this is heartbreaking and beyond upsetting when the local dealership "agrees that cooperate should fix it but there is nothing he can do". He even said that this is "a major problem with a majority of the cars he has been working on". It's just not right!!!

Abs, traction control & handbrake lights turned on in the middle of driving. Nearly had accident because abs did not activate when needed. Me and my family were in significant danger. Upon mechanic inspection the abs module has failed.

My abs light has been going on the past few days when i use the brakes. Especially when i am turning. I am not slamming the brakes on at all-- i am a very careful driver. I know this seems to be a common problem with the car and volkswagen will not cover repairs. My car has about 76, 000 miles.

The abs brake warning light came on....followed by steering light, engine light speedometer failing, gas warning light on, now my car will not start and the key is stuck to the ignition. My power windows not working properly ....all started from the abs brakewarning light

2009 volkswagon rabbit. Consumer writes in regards to abs failure. *ldthe consumer stated there was a recall for the failure. The vehicle was not included in the failure. The consumer requested to be reimbursed for the cost of repairs. Updated 10/31/2017

Nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 lists 2009 volkswagen rabbits to be affected in this recall. I am currently facing the same exact issue described and my car also matches this description. However, when i did a vin search, it shows that this car is not listed. Can i get my car onto the list?

I got problems on abs system module that's why my rabbit2009start all the lights on the dashboard and lose the control including the speed meter.cant you help me with that's occured when i'm driving on a highway to my job.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen rabbit. While driving 45 mph, the vehicle accelerated at higher speeds. While depressing the brake pedal, an abnormal rattling noise was detected. When it rained, the entire backseat and passenger floor were drenched with water. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 121,902.

I got problems on abs system module that's why my rabbit2009start all the lights on the dashboard and lose the control including the speed meter.cant you help me with that's occured when i'm driving on a highway to my job.

I want to inform you, that there may be a defect in the first generation tpms valve adapters used in the 2009 vw rabbit, and other similar vehicles.in cold weather, part of these valves can become brittle and snap.this is due to the fact that the aluminum used in these valve stems corrodes over a short period of time, causing the valve itself to weaken.over time, this has the potential to cause a situation that may eventually cause all the air to escape the tire suddenly - something this system is designed to prevent.in addition to cold weather, in the northeastern united states, where sand/salt are heavily used to de-ice the roads, this may speed up the corrosion of the valve.i cannot in good conscience, and for my own safety, install these same potentially faulty valves at $60/ea back on the tire.i fixed the problem, by installing a regular valve stem in it's place for $5 including labor, which solved the issue.i had this done on all four tires, removing the faulty valve stems completely, and replacing them with standard stems that will not corrode, and break. The valve failed completely when the tpms light came on in my vehicle, and i went to check one of the tires to make sure it was full with air.when removing the air gauge, the valve snapped, causing all the air to rush out of the tire.the cost of replacing these valves is prohibitive.they cost $60 each, and you need to replace all four valves at once - due to tire rotations, you would never be able to tell which tire had the new valve if you replaced only one.that's $250 each time to replace the valves, which presents a unreasonable, and unnecessary burden to the average working person.

Intermittantly loose speed on its own for a split second and also speedometer will drop to 0 mph and almost instantly come back to correct speed. This intermittant issue can cause some to rear end my car, this is a safety issue on hi-way or free way driving.

While driving at a normal speed of 45mph, the car began to shake slightly. All of the instrument panel lights flashed on, and the fuel gauge along with the speedometer began to fail. As a result, the car needed to be pulled over and stopped in order to prevent a serious accident from occurring.

The abs control has failed (diagnosed by volkswagen dealership), abs, traction control and brake lights are on, speedimoter is always on zero, the car looses steering control

When driving, my 09 rabbit, the power staring light will flash yellow to red and then stay red, i'm jerked to the side, right and left . On some occasions when making a right turn, it feels as though i'm being shot forward, i have a terrible wobble and when this happens i cannot accelerate over 45 without the car sounding like a helicopter, my ac and abs light will flash on then off sporadically. My transmission slips periodically and this happens regardless if i'm on the highway or city streets. I have been to four mechanics, i've had the right front axle replaced, tires rotated and balanced, a new battery and a front end alignment. Luckily the last mechanic i took the car to hooked it up to his machine and got codes for the electronic stability control malfunction and abs module malfunction. I have checked the recall site and both modules have been recalled for my make, model and year, however my vin is not included

The car would shake in the highway and would not accelerate at certain moment. Also stops randomly i don't know why my car acting that way and i am afraid to driveeven the repair shop doesn't know what the issue is.

The vehicle turned in accessories, beeping occurs and a wrench appears on the instrument panel, abs, traction control, and e-brake light blinks. Did some research and found out mkv models from vw all have the same issue causing the abs pump/computer to fail.
