Tamara recall. Ecp light comes on. The car will stall out. Ifi let it sit 5-10 minutes it will start up and i can drive for a while, but it's stalling out more frequently. I am afraid to get on the freeway.
The steering wheel controls stopped working one day, along with the horn.several days later, the airbag warning light came on, and the display shows "airbag fault" every time i start the car.i purchased an extended warranty for this car, and vw refuses to cover the repair.my local dealership diagnosed the problem to be a faulty clock spring.
Takata recall- i was notified by tk holdings inc. That my 2009 vw passat should have airbags replaced as part of the national recall. I contacted vw and they refused to replace my airbags stating that my car was not eligible for an airbag recall, but only eligible for a fuel pump recall.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat. While turning left, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into a brick pillar holding up a building. The air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle also accelerated two additional times. The contact called the manufacturer who advised her to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer who stated that there was nothing wrong. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 15,500.
I received a notice from wv in april 2016. It is not december of 2016 and nothing has been done to address this recall. In addition to the recall i do have the airbag light on, in the dashboard signaling that something must be done asap. Thank you
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat. While parked for 30 minutes the vehicle caught on fire. The fire started in the front under the engine.the fire department stated it could be an electrical fire or a leak in the engine. The vehicle was completely destroyed. The manufacturer has not been notified. The insurance companywas performing an investigation. The failure mileage was 20,000.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat. While operating the vehicle, a very strong odor of fuel was present inside the cabin of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (north park volkswagen, 21315 interstate 10 west, san antonio, tx) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump was faulty. On several occasions, the battery lost its charge. The dealer stated that the battery failure was related to the failed fuel pump. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The contact was informed that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v509000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, any other damages caused by the recalled part would not be covered under the recall. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 110,000.
The car has stalled multiple times while driving. Lights pop on and the fuel pump is the error code, along with misfires. I have had at least a dozen or more close calls with the stall out and failure to start up, and at least 2-3 times i have almost been seriously injured or killed due to the stall out. It stalls when its in motion or even when it is parked and is starting up.
I stopped at a stop sign, the car accelerated normally and after a few minutes the engine sputtered, the check engine light illuminated, and the battery light illuminated. The engine quit. Attempts to restart the engine failed. I was located at an intersection and pushed the car off to the side of the road. I attempted to restart the engine and noticed an aroma of burning plastic. I opened the hood and there was smoke emanating under the top engine cover, top lh side viewed from the front to the rear. Upon further investigation i noticed that there was a fire under the cover. I removed the cover and extinguished the fire. The #1 ignition coil harness was melted from the fire and associated fire damage was noted on the inside of the engine cover above the engine coil location. I had the vehicle towed to the local dealership and they confirmed that the failure of the #1 engine coil was the cause of the fire. I reported the incident in detail to the volkswagen america customer support as soon as i returned home. Vehicle is currently undergoing repairs to replace the defective items. I was told there were no current recalls in effect. I went to the nhtsa website and found that this issue has been previously investigated and no recall was issued at the time. I felt obligated to report this incident as it pertains to public safety.
The car suddenly has 50% or less power and begins stumbling very badly.acceleration is so poor that it's quite dangerous in heavy traffic and the ability to pull off the road is severely hampered.the only way i'm able to keep the car moving and running is to use the manual feature of the automatic transmission and keep the rpm's very high.the four coil packs in the car were replaced this spring.suddenly, the same exact problem is back again 4 months later.codes were random misifre and multiple misfires at various cylinders.strange that all four packs go out at the same time....?that's not logical unless is something other than normal wear causing the issue.this problem has occurred twice and both time it begins in the middle of heavy traffic where the situation is very dangerous as the power loss is nearly complete.both times were under acceleration when the heavy stumbling occurred.i turned the car off and disconnected the battery for 5 min. To hopefully reset the cars epc as the problem is so sudden it almost certainly is electrical.there is no logical explanation for four coil packs all needing to be replaced at the same time and 4 months after the last replacement...?undoubtedly a consistently dangerous situation.
I received a safety recall from vw in october of 2017.it said there could be an interruption to the fuel pump module.result could be fuel pump running continuously, resulting in drained battery and/or a not tart condition or cause a lott of motive power while the care is in motion.after contacting them now (june 15, 2018) they have no further information at this time.is this usual with a recall that seems dangerous?
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle's engine stalled without warning. The failure was experienced several times and the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. The dealer performed a diagnostic which located the failure at the battery. The dealer replaced the battery, fuel pump and the fuel pump control module but the failure was not corrected. The vehicle continued to stall sporadically. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and the current mileage were 62,800 updated 07/11/12*lj

There are 3 complaints.i have purchased 2 volkswagen passats in 2009.one is working fine except windshield tank leak, and the other one has the leakage and at the same time an engine problem. I would like to recall the other one of which i have registered with vehicle id here followed by the below reasons and requests.1. Windshield tank leakage since there was no accident and it naturally leaked.2. On the 17th of november 2011, the car suddenly stopped and exhaled black smoke and i could not drive any more. I definitely stopped and called a wreck car and went directly to the dealer. The dealer reported as steering column module problem. (also mentioned about injector )3. On the 14th of september 2012, i was on my way to work and quite far away from the company, the car suddenly stopped with the same problem as 2011. I was late for work for sure and it was almost life threatening circumstance because of the environment. I called the wreck car and here is another report from the dealer. "customer states vehicle was driving rough, shaking and emitting smoke excessively: smelled of fuel: made it to the dealership and will not start. Check and advise. Inspected vehicle retrieved p0300 random misfire p0303 cylinder #3 misfire and p0087 for fuel rail. Noticed large amounts of white smoke coming from exhaust and strong odor of fuel...)"4. I have power train warranty for 5 years or 60k mile (which will be the first) and the dealer fixed 2 times for free because of the warranty. Now even the warranty is being terminated and i have no other ways to secure my safety.followed by the above reasons, i will not be able to drive this car which i have purchased in 2009. When i drive this car, i do not feel safe and even feel life threatening danger while i am driving because those moments in the past were very dangerous.
The car had been driven a short distance and parked. Shortly after that it caught on fire and was destroyed.

For the last 4 years, i've been dealing with major mechanical and non-mechanical issues with my volkswagen (vw) passat 2009, which i bought brand new in 2008.vw's mechanics found that my car had defective parts in it, which were there from the time i bought it.i have had so many problems with the car that i don't trust it, even though vw's mechanics said they've either fixed or replaced the bad parts, but each time i've taken it in for repairs in the past, i've had the same parts repaired or replaced over and over.a summary of these issues:- rear side window sunscreen hook - replaced due to falling out ? year 2009- rear windshield sunscreen - replaced because it had broken ? year 2011- engine fault - car died and running roughly ever since ? year 2011- engine light coming on 4 times ? years 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014- driver?s door lock - had stopped locking ? year 2012- engine cover - screws fell out of the rear of engine cover ? year 2012- 2 water pumps - replaced due to coolant draining completely out of the reservoir ? years 2012 & 2013- knob to adjust side mirrors came off and now unable to adjust side mirrors ? year 2013i have paid nearly $40,000 to date on this defective vehicle andvw doesn't seem to care how many times i've been put in harms way and inconvenienced.i also have relatives and associates who've had problems with their similar model vws too, so i know i can't be the only one who has had these mechanical issues with a vw in the us.i feel there should be an investigation into vw corp. Of some sort by government officials to uncover the defective construction of my car and others, so all of us who've suffered through this will be redeemed in some way and future consumers will be safer by vw improving their vehicles' construction.
Abs module failure - parking light flashing and traction control flashing while driving
Failure of key (fob or what ever vw calls it) to start vehicle when inserted in ignition switch.this failure has occurred twice and resulted in ignition switch needing to be replaced by dealer.on the second occurrence the key itself shorted out and would not allow me to open power doors; however, the key would allow me to open the power rear hatch so that i could crawl through car to unlock doors.today the other key started acting up for my wife and would not allow her to unlock doors and she had to crawl through car to unlock doors.the service manager at the dealer has the first faulty key for which he was to get us a replacement and we are waiting on vw to replace faulty key.ido not know if dealership still has faulty ignition switches but the service manager still has my key.the dates of the ignition switch replacements are 01/20/2009 & 09/09/2009.the car was in service less than 15 days before the first ignition switch needed to be replaced.i left my key with the service manager when we picked up the car on 09/13/2009.
On sunday morning about 11:20 am as i turned my car on it immediately started to rattle followed by black smoke coming from under my hood.i immediately turned my car off, unlocked my hood and unbuckled my 3 boys out of their car seats and ran out of the car.as i made sure they were at a safe distance away from the car i walked back to my car popped the hood up and noticed fire coming from what appeared to be the engine.i immediately called 911 and ran to my neighbors apartment to ask for water so my car wouldn't burn to the ground.by the time the fire department made it out my neighbor and i were able to put the fire out thank god.the following day i had it to towed by hanna's towing through my car insurance agency to the nearest volkswagen service center.the tow truck driver walter had to unplug the battery because when he turned it on to put the vehicle on neutral to hook it up to the tow truck it started to smoke up again.

There is an interruption in electrical power to the fuel pump control module. Thisresulting in the fuel pump running continuously, resulting in a drained battery and cause a loss of motive power while the vehicle is in motion, this happened today on highway and almost i was going to have a fatal accident. Us. Vw and the delar are not taking any action at that regard, they stated today that i pay to the repair and they will emberse me later. Pleas note that there is a recall on the fuel pump control module to solve that issue.safety risk
Bought this at a used car dealership.within two days, the epc light was coming on. When driving the car or when starting to push the gas pedal, the gas pedal has no response.it's as if the pedal is not working. We took it back to the dealership and had their mechanic look at it.they said it was a sensor.said they fixed it.within a week, the epc light came on again.this time, said it was the throttle body.they said they fixed it but within about 3 weeks, the pedal issue happened again. Luckily, we have stayed on local roads 40 mph max but when the car doesn't go when it is supposed to, i'm expecting to get rearended. We brought this to our mechanic and $1700 later, the car is still doing the same thing. The epc light is on and the car is not going when you press the gas pedal. The cpu has been switched out and the accelerator pedal has been replaced. How much money do we dump in this?this seems to be a common issue from what i am reading on the internet.

Drained my battery all time, turned off in middle the i driving it.for couple months i been experience this situation.first i was came back for work, i was in mays landing area, i was waiting for the light change, when my cart turned off. After several minutes turned on again, i drove for 10 minutes and again turning off.i bought a new battery, my car worked perfectly for 3 day, i was in my job ready to came home when my car never start again.
The vehicle has issues with the fuel pump , intake & cylinders . I was able to change the fuel pump but noticed online the vehicle has been recalled for these same issues . When turning the car on and driving it turns off and hardening the steering wheel
The steering wheel lock was defective on my 2009 volkswagen passat. The vehicle had less than 35000 miles on it. This is a safety issue. The steering wheel locked up on several different occasions while i was trying to take the vehicle out of the garage. The steering wheel lock also caused the vehicle to stall. In addition, it could cause the vehicle to shake while it is being driven. Volkswagen usa admitted that this part is an issue. They issued several technical service bulletins about the steering wheel column lock. Several other makes and models of volkswagens were recalled as a result of this issue. I am seeking judgement from volkswagen in the amount of $588.91, which is the cost of repair. Volkswagen refuses to pay for the safety issue because the car only had a 3 yr warranty. I will never purchase another volkswagen ever. They are not willing to work with the consumer. The vehicle has been repaired by a volkswagen dealer on 12/28/2018.

My son drove the vehicle to school this morning.as he neared the school driveway going about 25 miles per hour, the engine warning light came on "stop engine immediately."he drove the vehicle 1 city block to park in the school parking lot.the engine did not jolt when the warning came on but it came on none-the-less.
Stopped running at traffic light- towed to dealership -timing chain/tensioner issue
There is a latent defect in the tensioner system of the timing chain that can cause the chain to 'jump a tooth' in the vehicle's camshaft, which causes serious and sometimes fatal damage to the engine. Unfortunately the defect is impossible for car owners to discover, but audi and volkswagen knew of the tensioner system problem since at least june 2010. Normally, the timing chain is meant to function perfectly for at least 120,000 miles. Because the system is not on the schedule for recommended maintenance from the manufacturers. However, with the defective tensioner, the timing chain frequently fails well before that mark, but often after the warranty has expired. This issue caused my engine to have catastrophic engine failure.
2009 volkswagen passattiming belt/chain tensioner problemin july 2016 my mother-in-law was leaving work, when she tried starting the car it didn't started. Someone in the parking volunteered to help her. They decided to jump start the car with a jump box, the car started and she made it home. Once she got home she tried to start the car and it did not start.she is a single mother and do not make a lot of money to fix her car, after a month and half of the car been park at home and taking rides from whoever can take her, we decided to get a mechanic that works for vw dealership. He came and fully checked the car and told us that the timing chain/belt jumped and that engine it's out of time, which it could have been caused from a bad tensioner. He said this is a real bad issue that could cause the valve to be bended. He gave us an expensive price to fix the car, so we decided to wait and be patience and be optimistic that it wasn't that since my mother in law doesn't have the money to fix it. A month later we decided to get other mechanics to get different opinions, they all said it was the same issue. One of the mechanics came and checked the pressure of the engine and it stay on 0 and that's when he confirmed that valves are bended.i have checked about this problem on the internet and many people are complaining about the same issue and vw knows about this issue for some time, i also see there is a lawsuit going on this issue. I can't believe and it should not be acceptable that vw knowing of this problem, it's not doing anything about fixing this problem.this issue could cause varieties of accident on the street, because if this issue happens to anybody on the street driving, it could lock the engine and cause the person lose control of the vehicle and either hit or get hit by somebody.
As we were approaching a stop sign the engine hesitated or stuttered as we came to a stop. As i attempted to start again, the engine hesitated, i noticed that the engine light had come on, smoke was coming out from under the hood. I pulled over and opened the hood to find the top left rear of the engine cover on fire. I called 911 and the fire department arrived to extinguish the fire which had by then consumed most of the plastic components on top and rear of the engine.
This vehicle had catastrophic engine failure due to a faulty cam chain tensioner. This is been known by volkswagen as a service bulletin was issued in 2011. I was driving on a city st. And had to push the vehicle to the side. The fuel pump and sending units have also failed in this vehicle along with the turbocharger diverter valve which was a defective item. All these items have been known by volkswagen for some time. The cost of repair on the vehicle has been over $5,000. I believe all these issues should have been a recall item. Failures on some of them have been happening at 20,000 miles. They could pose a safety hazard depending on where you were driving. Volkswagen has denied any reimbursement on most of these items. Had consumers known of these issues the cost would have been significantly less if the defective parts have been replaced. I am currently joining an active class action suit against volkswagen for the timing chain tensioner.
The vehicle has issues with the fuel pump , intake & cylinders . I was able to change the fuel pump but noticed online the vehicle has been recalled for these same issues . When turning the car on and driving it turns off and hardening the steering wheel
My car has 76000 miles and is otherwise in excellent condition. I just got a check engine light, and after replacing the pcv valve, and i was told by my mechanic that the rear main engine seal is leaking. The car is out of warranty at this point and now i have to spend almost $1000 in repairs. This is something that should be covered by vw warranty, as there are so many cases of this exact failure at the same amount of miles.
Driving car when suddenly a warning message is displayed "stop engine immediately."the car was in forward motion as i was driving on a 4 lane highway.this has happened several times.not turning, not braking, not backing up.we discussed it with a vw dealer.they said the car has a recall on the fuel pump 10 months ago but as of yet, no parts and no eta.online reports suggest the engine may overheat and seize or cause engine fire.
I bought this car used and from the moment i took it of the lot 13 months ago i have been having problems.the care will stop, shake. I have already had it check 3 times and repaired twice.fuel pump has been changed twice and i am having the same problem again.this is a huge safety hazard if i am on the expressway and no warning take place which could lead to a major accident.according to what i have read this make and model have had many issues and volkswagon has not resolved the situation.help!
My vehicle's check engine light came on and stayed on for several days, and the engine started running abnormally, so i took it to a mechanic. The mechanic discovered that the intake manifold needed to be replaced, in addition to other work on the engine and fuel system. I found out that volkswagen had issued an extended warranty for the intake manifold and fuel injectors of my vehicle's engine. However, although my engine was of the exact same type included in the extended warranty, volkswagen claimed i was not eligible for warranty replacement since my vehicle's vin was not included on the extended warranty list. Considering that my vehicle has been well maintained and is only about 5 years old, i believe that the intake manifold problem is related to the problem that resulted in the warranty extension, and my vehicle should be included in the warranty extension. Updated 02/12/15
Rear main seal and breather unit blew out @ 74k miles.my vehicle was leaking oil and vacuum pressure.cost me $1800 to repair.it caused my vehicle to stall out several times while driving/resting at stop lights.
My vehicle was in motion on a city street and suddenly it started shaking while driving and when i braked, it shaked even more vigorously. I took it to a local mechanic who said there is an issue with the engine and the dealership will have to look at it. They recommended that i tow the car to the dealership and advised against driving it. I towed the car to the dealership. After two days the dealership calls me stating that the timing chain has jumped and there is no compression. They would have to repair or replace the engine. The dearlship technician said that they have had several vw vehicles brought in with similar issues but vw has refused to issue a recall or take any action to correct this issue. This is a dangerous safetly hazard. If i was driving on a highway and this happened, i could have easily caused a big accident because i literally had very little control over the car and what it was doing. This is a defect in the car's manufacturing and vw needs to do something urgently to fix the issue. There are other cars and owners out there unaware of this potentially dangerous issue and nhtsa needs to bring this to everyone's attention. Thank you.
Cam chain tensioner failure.driving down road engine started to run rough then stopped got car back to house (75 yards)had car towed to vw dealerpaid $140.00 for diag.lmajor engine damage from cam chain tensioner failure valves and piston damagedcould have been major safety problem if on major road ( dangerous unsafe )
To whom it may concern:i wanted to follow-up and discuss a recent incident. On april 19th 2019 our 2009 vw passat was in our garage as this is the usual location we park our cars. On the 18th we completed yard work and nothing out of the norm was noted as we completed the yard work at around 8pm and nothing was noted to be abnormal. Around 4 am on the 19th my spouse and i were awoken to a loud pop sound. This sound was unusual to us. Shortly after the pop sound there panic alarm could be heard that waned out in about 30 seconds. My husband went to the garage and was met with black and pressure like force against the garage door. We immediately evacuated the home and called the fire department. At the time were not sure what caused the smoke but once the fire fighters arrived were told the vw passat was on fire. The fire marshall reported to us that it was possibly electrical in nature. I wanted to touch based with vw pertaining this matter in an effort to save others lives. Our garage has been damaged as well as the vw atlas was damage from the fire. My concern is that the outcome could have been far worse. My vw passat had was driven the day of the 18th with no concerns. I am concerned that another person could be gravely harmed if this issue is not addressed. I am a vw customer that enjoys the overall product and wish excellence and quality for the product. Defective timing chain tensioner in 2.0 tsi engine damage the car and engine not getting started. Mechanic asked for $3500 approximate estimate for repair which is known defect of vw 2.0 tsi engine. Vehicle was in motion when i was parking the car in mall parking area.
Traveling at posted speed limit on local highway when the engine lost power, battery light illuminated, a/c stopped blowing altogether. Vehicle was traveling up slight incline so vehicle pulled into nearest parking lot off of highway. Once vehicle pulled into parking lot it was turned off and the key removed. Attempted to re-start vehicle, engine would turn over but would not start. Removed key from vehicle, exited vehicle and noticed smoke coming from underneath hood. Raised hood and found top left rear engine cover and surrounding plastic tubing as well as the fabric on the underside of the hood on fire. Fire department was called but fire was extinguished prior to their arrival. Vehicle towed to local vw dealership and awaiting insurance adjuster and vw to assess damages.
My vw passat 2009 sustained engine failure due to failure timing chain/timing chain tensioner and now needs very expensive engine repair or replacement of engine. Car drove okay for 15 minutes in the morning then it was then parked for about 2 hours. When trying to re-start the car, the car would not start. Mechanic noted absent compression in 2 cylinders and diagnosed it to be due to timing chain slipping. This happened at 80,000miles and less than 10 years (9 years 9 months) of purchase of the vehicle. Vw's extended warranty covers repair/replacement of timing chain but does not cover repair of engine damage resulted due to timing chain failure. The car was serviced at vw dealer regularly and there was no warning or indication of impending failure of the timing chain. Other owners of vw vehicles have also complained of having identical problems on online community with some people complaining of engine stalling while driving. This appears to be a defective design rather than wear and tear due ageing and i feel that vw should recall the affected vehicles to repair the problems.
Vehicle started rough and was vibrating.shut off and vehicle would not restart.towed to dealer who informed that an internal failure occurred causing the timing chain to slip and that the engine would need to be replaced.dealer informed me that, "these things just happen sometimes".however, an internet search revealed that this is an ongoing and repeated issued for many vw and audit owners and that there are three class action lawsuits filed for timing chain tensioner problems.vw of america was not helpful. Why should the consumer be out thousands of dollars for engine replacement for what should be a known defect.the vehicle only has 105,000 miles.
Bad tensioner belt led to blown engine.
My wife was driving the car to the airport and stopped at the cell phone waiting area. Tried to start again and car didn't start. Changed the battery with aaa and still didn't start. Towed it to dealer. They said the timing chain tensioner failed and it completely damaged the engine. Engine needs to be replaced which costs about $7k. I have checked about this problem in internet and many people are complaining about the same issue and vw knows about this issue for some time. As this can happen in middle of the traffic and can cause a fatal accident, we request you to investigate and make volkswagen recall and replace this part. Also, vw should take responsibility for the failed part and the repairs caused due to this part as it knows about this and ignored. I also see there is a lawsuit going on this issue. Check the link http://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2016/volkswagen-timing-chain-tensioner-lawsuit.shtmlvw really should be more responsible to avoid serious accidents
After being driven for a short time our 2009 vw passat was parked in our garage.no signs of any problems when driver went inside the house.about 15-20 minutes after being parked noise was heard from garage and at that time intense smoke and fire from front of vehicle was discovered. Before help could arrive front of car was completely on fire and nearby materials in garage were ignited.car was considered total loss along with extensive damage to inside of garage. Fire department attributed the cause of fire as "car engine/electrical". Fortunately, ,there were no personal injuries but significant property damage..
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat. The contact stated while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The dealer confirmed that the manifold, cam shaft, and throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the problem persisted. The vin was not available. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000.
Loud sound when vehicle is in idle. Took it to local mechanic and they are saying it needs a timing chain replacement because it skips.
Purchased this vehicle used.i have had it for two years now.problems encountered:burning smell, driver side flood light blew out or came off; shaking momentarily while driving, driver side mirror flew off while making a left turn; noticed when i had an oil change last of january or first part of february the vehicle was using quite a bit of oil.i put about five or more quarts in by may.the latter part of may it used two quarts in two weeks.went shopping saturday before mother's day, parked the car at food lion when i came back out, i tried to start the car and it stalled.when it did start, the vehicle was shaking.i took the car home, checked the oil along with my brother and it needed more oil.i put two more quarts in.on monday i was at the dealership at 6:40 a.m. (woke them up).after checking the car, their finding was it needed a fuel pump and a sensor; later they replaced two crank sensors and said the car is still shaking; then after approximately a week and a half, i called the service manager and he informed me the car needs a engine.friday, may 22, i went by the dealership and picked up some things out of the automobile and was told the warranty company finally gave in and the motor will be in, in three days.well, after reading the horror stories about the 2009 passat on this website.i plan to trade this vehicle without delay,as soon as they release it to me. I am sadden, because i really loved this vehicle. I have been reluctant to drive this car out of town, and now i am afraid to drive it to work which is 30 mile a day plus or at all.i do not feel safe in it, and i pay to much to be having all these problems.who knows what will be next.
Pulled into garage and park after coming home from work. Car started on fire 10 minutes later. The car burned completely along with garage.
Timing belt tensioner failure.engine requires major repairs
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was able to be restarted, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was unavailable. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
I bought this car unaware of a carbonization issue on the valves\. The carbon build up causes a missfire read and a lean fault in left bank. The missfire issue makes the vehicle virtually undrivable which put me and my family in danger at the time this occurd. Accordingly after plenty of research this apparently is a very common issue and is a manufacture issue since the issue could be solved by placing the fuel injectors behind the valves to clean them instead they are costing consumers obscene amounts of money and putting their lives at risk for no other reason then to not fix this issue.
At 43,321 miles, the check engine light was on. Vehicle was brought to a volkswagen dealership where the intake manifold had to be replaced along with the fuel induction. The manifold was covered by warranty but, not the fuel induction. Out of pocket cost $136.90at 54,337 miles, when accelerated there was a hesitation in the engine and the check engine light had come on. Vehicle was brought to the dealership where the ignition coil for cylinder 1 had to be replaced (cylinder misfire fault and cooling fan faults) and also the cooling fan which was faulty. All not covered by the warranty. Out of pocket cost $864.35.
I have a vw passat cc 2.0 turbo 2009. I was driving down the highway at 60 miles when suddenly the car under the speed to 30 m. Almost i have an accident with other drivers.i went to vw dealer and the problem i had was the ignition coil. The vw warranty did not cover the damage and i have to pay for it being that this is a manufacturing defect of these models of cars.here i am sending you a new york times article where he talks about this situation.http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/31/ignition-coil-problem-identified-on-nearly-500000-vw-passats/
Recall update:currently, intake manifold needs to be repaired-engine light on-cost $1400.00.took car to dealership for fuel pump was told it was replaced but would not give evidence that it was.side frontal air bag never replaced-was told by dealership did not need it.
The car had been driven a short distance and parked. Shortly after that it caught on fire and was destroyed.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat. While driving various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly stall. Moments later, the vehicle could be restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (suntrup volkswagen in st. Louis, mo), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was 80,000.
I was stopped at a red light and smoke with the distinct fire smell started pouring out of my hood.ihad to run the red light to get off of the street where i ended up in a big parking lot.i raised the hood and saw heavy smoke and small flames. I grabbed my phone and took a picture and then ran and got water to put the fire out.this will cost me a 500 dollar deductible and the potential for my insurance company to raise my rates.i am so pissed to find out this is a recurring issue!i am glad i was driving instead of my wife with our kids in the car!vw the fight is now on!i was wondering why my service adviser new exactly what caused the fire.a 27 dollar part failed and caused a couple of grand in damage.
My 2009 volkswagen stoped starting, so i had it towed into a dealership where they ran a few tests and determined that my timing chain tensioner failed which resulted in the failure of my engine. As a result, i needed to pay around $7000-$8000 in order to replace. Given i could not afford, ive been making my monthly payment as i am financially obligated to do so. The car only had 70,000 miles, therefore i am surprised that the engine already went and feel this is something vw should replace.
Sudden loss of engine oil causing engine failure
3 different occasions my car would loose power and shut down on the highway. I had it towed and all three times they stated it was different things and that they had to take steps in replacing good parts to find the bad ones. Just to find out that it was the fuel pump control module that they thought it was the whole time. Now there is a recall on it. Which i have summitted the paper work and they conveniently cannot find. This past weekend my car wouldn't turn over at all when i tried to start it in a parking lot so i had it towed for the 4th time in 2.5years. They are claiming that the engine motor is bad and it would cost $7500.00 to replace. The technician cannot find any oil leaksnd claim there was only about a half of court of oil in the motor. I had the oil changed less than 2 months prior and both volkswagen and my mechanic said that there is no way it could of run for that long on half a court of oil and should hold 5.6 quarts. Which leads to the motor eating so to speak the oil. ( a bad engine) although i spent over $20'000.00 on this vehicle and have had all these issues volkswagen is telling me that they will not help at all with repairing the engine. That i will have to eat the $9000.00 still owed on the vehicle. Words cannot describe how disappointed i am with the customer service by volkswagen.
2009 vw passat 2.0t. Oil leaking from rear main seal. Rear main seal failed at about 70,000 miles, not covered under warranty. First indication was smell of burning. Shortly before this failed, the pcv valve failed - also out of warranty.warranty is for 5 years/60,000 miles.
Began to drive vehicle yesterday to fuel up."oil consumption: stop engine" warning message came on.went off after a few seconds and then came back on and wouldn't go off.drove 6 blocks back home.did not feel it was safe to drive car any further.vw dealer does not know why that warning message came on.they don't know what to do or what to fix.they said fuel pump recall may fix the problem.that recall is now 10 months old with no sign of parts being ready.
Rear main oil seal needed to be replaced. It was compromised by excessive pressure in crankcase because pcv breather was not functioning. There was no check engine condition prior to the rear seal being compromised. Rear main seal replacement costs $1146, parts and labor. Pcv valve was also replaced. I noticed an oil leak on garage floor, which led me to bring it into service for a technician to inspect. I would like vw to compensate for some of the costs for this repair.
Found out there was a timing chain issue with the vehicle where it jumped 22 degrees. After research have found on a number of forums that this is a widespread issue with this engine in both vw and audi vehicles. Vw will not issue a recall, the claim is, due to it being too widespread and extremely expensive. Under most circumstances from what i have read, it causes catastrophic engine failure. Luckily, mine did not jump that far, but it still was an expensive repair that shouldn't have had to happen. Well now i have had $4200 in repairs made to my engine due to this issue and i think vw should have paid for it.
Acceleration hesitation for 1-3 seconds when throttle engaged at low speed.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat. While the vehicle was parked and while driving various speeds, the vehicle accelerated independently without the accelerator pedal being depressed. In addition, the contact noticed engine oil leaking from underneath the vehicle. The check engine warning light illuminated. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear main engine seal needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,000.
Main rear bearing seal failure, sudden loss of power, burning smell from under car, $1,700 repair.
I got 09 4 motion cc 3.6.i had read spent close to 6g and nobody can fix the acceleration when start.very frustrated change catalytic converters change other things i bad.
Car was parked and would not start. Had towed to mechanic--castastropic engine failure due to broken timing belt tensioner. 105k miles--maintenance upkept.obviously there is a latent defect in the tensioner system of the timing chain that can cause the chain to “jump a tooth” in the vehicle’s camshaft, which causes serious and sometimes fatal damage to the engine. This issue caused my engine to have catastrophic engine failure.why has the vw owners not been notified and why hasn't the ntsb done anything about this. 7k+ to get a new engine. This is an internal part and not a scheduled maintenance issue.vw should be held accountable. People don't have money to purchase a car and have the engine fail before car is paid for.
This was a very dangerous experience. After stopped at one traffic light, the engine was total shut down when i press the acceleration pedal. Car stopped in the middle of the road right after the car made the left turn. Then i restarted the engine, it seemed normal, but after only 300 yards when i hit the gas pedal, the engine stalked again. Car just parked in the middle of the road. I restarted the engine again, this time the check engine light was on, and same problem happened after the car barely ran over 400 yards. I finally drove to home with 7 or 8 restarts for 4 miles. Then on may 21, i called aaa to tow my car to a local vw dealer. In the morning of may 22, the dealer's service adviser called me that the high pressure fuel pump was broken and need to be replaced. The cost including diagnose is $873. However, around 4pm in the afternoon, the dealer called again and advised that the replacement of fuel pump does not solve the problem. The dealer has made call to vw for the technical support.
Initial failure occurred while accelerating onto main thoroughfare. Vehicle lost all engine power and stalled out. Vehicle was send to vw dealer for repair where some warranty repairs were made as well as preventative maintenance that was advised. The car was returned as "repaired" and after driving home experienced the exact same failure while the car was idling in the driveway.car was returned again and experienced the same failure a second time while i was traveling on i275 in detroit. The car stalled out and i again lost all power. I was forced to the side of the road where the car then failed to start. I was forced to sit for three hours in 20 degree weather with a twice in 2 weeks repaired issue as my car was buried in snow on the interstate. This is a major safety hazard!
2009 vw passat 2.0t. Oil leaking from rear main seal. Rear main seal failed at about 75,000 miles, not covered under warranty. First indication was oil spot on driveway and then check engine light came on. Inspected bottom of engine and it was coated with oil.the pcv valve failed and caused rear main seal to rupture and shoot oil (and possibly gas vapors) all over bottom of hot engine.although nothing ignited in this case, began to question if some of the other fire incidents listed on nhtsa site were possibly caused by similar condition.failure of approx. $40 part caused approx. $1700 in damage- all out of warranty. Warranty is for 5 years/60,000 miles.no maintenance data available to owner indicated that pcv valve should be checked as part of scheduled maintenance.vw leadership declined to accept any responibility for situation.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat. While driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. In addition, the engine warning indicator failed to illuminate. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The contact managed to restart the vehicle and drove to darcars volkswagen (12511 prosperity dr., silver spring, md 20904, (301) 622-7000) where it stalled again. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v509000 (fuel system: gasoline); however, the contact had not received a recall notice. The same dealer diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced, but the recall was on hold. The vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The failure mileage was 111,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
Parked carand went into the store to shop and approximately 10 minutes later someone said a car was on fire and that it was a silver vw.my husband went out and found the whole front end engulfed in flames.
My vehicle threw a warning light " oil pressure, please shut off car immediatley". Once car was shut off it never again started. Vehicle was taken to vw dealer in arkansas and i was told the engine was blown and it would cost 7,600 to repair.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat. There was a recall on my fuel pump in august.contacted my dealer in oct. 23, and they say there are no parts to replace my fuel pump.i looked at the dangers if it is not working properly, one of which is my car could loose power and just stop as i am driving my car.i have to drive on highways and i am scared about this.why don't they have the parts from vw to fix my fuel pump?
Fuel pump has gone out. Volkswagen indicates my particular car doesn't qualify under the recall for the recall report 17v-509. This is an obvious issue with the 2009 passat.
Engine stalled while driving.i believe my vehicle should be included in nhtsa recall no. : 17v-509manufacturer recall no. : 20ae
I have changed few batteries before and last service dealer claimed issue with battery is due to inside light which it wasn't and it looks like the fuel pump that need to be replaced soon. The dealer seems not ready ready yet without wv approval.

My passat fuel pump is using to much gas, ive had to get it towed because check engine light flashing and gas in my oil and replaced injectors, its a 2009 with 80,000 miles. You can also feel the misfire or a hesitant off and on while driving. Ive put around 5,000 mile on it and the check engine light is on again but not flashing.
I am writing to your organization because of the injustice i experienced with a recall at volkswagen. A couple of years ago i had some issues with my passat and took it to the dealer. Dealers doing what dealer's gauged me for whatever they could. This year, however, volkswagen came out with recall for the part which i replaced two years ago. They paid me partially for my our of pocket expenses but my argument to them was that i would not have been at the dealer to be taken advantage of if not for the recall. I initially requested that they refund full labor and one of the parts. But come to think of it both parts are related to the fuel system and now i would like a complete refund.
Tamara recall. Ecp light comes on. The car will stall out. Ifi let it sit 5-10 minutes it will start up and i can drive for a while, but it's stalling out more frequently. I am afraid to get on the freeway.
We purchased a 2009 vw passat brand new in 2009.since then, we have had it worked on multiple times, all for the same problem! the car shows no warning sign, and all of a sudden it shakes, shuts off, and will not restart.this has happened while driving, as well as when parked and trying to start the car. This is all in regards to defect in the fuel pump system. The fuel pump has been replaced three times, along with fuel pressure sensor, intake manifold, batteries, you name it.this problem began at about 15,000 miles, and two of the repairs were still under warranty.everytime we have brought it to the vw dealer, it has been the same exact issue.this is an extremely dangerous issue, i was lucky i was not driving on the interstate when this occurred.i am fearful of what could happen, this car is not safe.the issue has not been fixed, and i am unsure how this has not been recalled already.i have read reviews again and again on the same issue with the 2009 passat models, and other passat year models have had fuel system recalls as well.whatever the underlying cause of this, whatever is causing the fuel pump to go bad, or if they are just junk, it is not safe and this issue needs to be investigated immediately.vw will take it more seriously when a life is on the line.still today, on 6/12/2013, thousands of dollars later, my 2009 vw passat is once again broke down, not starting, and the fuel pump once again, needs to be replaced.clearly this is a manufacturer's defect.we bought a brand new car for the safety and reliability value, and this has by far been the most unreliable and dangerous vehicle i have ever owned in my life.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat. The contact noticed a strong fuel odor inside the vehicle and a fuel leak underneath the vehicle. The dealer (southern volkswagen greenbrier, 1248 s military hwy, chesapeake, va 23320, (757) 424-4689) indicated that they previously repaired the vehicle per nhtsa campaign number: 17v509000 (fuel system, gasoline) when the fuel pump control module was replaced; however, there was a fuel leak after the recall repair was performed. The dealer indicated that the fuel pump may need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 102,272.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat. While driving 30 mph, the power steering failed and the vehicle stalled without warning. As a result, the vehicle was involved in a crash. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. There were no warning indicators illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was towed to garvey volkswagen (483 quaker rd, queensbury, ny 12804, (518) 793-3488). The contact called the manufacturer twice after the crash and was informed that parts were not available, and further testing was needed on the fuel pump. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where a new fuel pump was installed. One month later, the vehicle stalled again without warning. The failure mileage was 62,000. Main rear bearing seal failure, sudden loss of power, burning smell from under car, $1,700 repair.
On 1 september 2017, i parked my vw in my garage. There were no engine lights on or anything, but the car had been making a loud fan like noise after i removed the key fob from the ignition. Its been doing that since i bought it. I didn't start the car back up until 5 september 2017 after returning from a weekend with family. When i started my vw up i noticed that the engine light was now illuminated. I waited about a week before i took any action hoping that the light would just go away on its own, but it didn't. On 12 september i took the car to the nearest autozone and took advantage of their free engine light diagnostic check. The error codes read "p0171 system too lean (bank 1)" and "p12a2 fuel rail pressure sensor inappropriately high." at the top of the paper it stated that the most likely solution for these error codes was to replace the fuel pump. Once i returned home i called the local volkswagen dealership and told them what the problem was, they told me that there was a recall out for my model vehicle, but there is no fix at the moment. I then went online to see for myself, the manufacturer recall number is: 20ae and the nhtsa manufacturer number is: 17v509. I am not sure what caused the vehicle to randomly start having these issues. I do not feel safe driving the car out of town anymore, i only drive it to and from work.

I was having issues with my vehicle shutting off while in drive mode. My vehicle shut off when entering a busy highway. I tried to restart with no luck. I then had to call highway patrol to help me move my vehicle to a safe place. Once in a safe place off the busy highway i called a tow truck who towed my vehicle to a volkswagen dealer. The dealer repair service scanned the system and found the fuel pump control module burned up from the fuel pump drawing too many amps. The fuel pump and fuel pump control module had to be replaced. The service repair told me i had to spend out of pocket to replace because the recall repair for the fuel pump control module was not yet available. I was told to call the customer care number on the recall notice to find out about receiving a refund on the repair since it was due to the recall. I called and was told there was not yet a repair available and i would have to wait. I have already spent out of pocket for this recall repair and would like to receive my money back. I received the recall notice oct. 2017; my car shut off on the ramp while entering the highway oct. 21, 2017. It is now the end of feb. 2018 with no resolution to the recall issue.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was able to coast to the side of the road. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. After the vehicle was restarted, the contact began driving and the vehicle accelerated independently without warning. The failure recurred each time the vehicle was fueled. The vehicle was taken to autonation volkswagen las vegas (6375 w sahara ave, las vegas, nv 89146, (702) 605-5802), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v509000 (fuel system, gasoline). The part needed for the repair was not available. The manufacturer was not contacted. Fuel pump cracked, and placement of pump caused gasoline to pool underneath back seat inside the car, right under where my 4 year olds car seat is. Tech started we are extremely lucky that it didnt catch on fire, because it was basically a bomb directly underneath him that could have gone off anytime the car was turned on or running. Only found out about it when i took it to get the fuel pump module replaced, and only found out about that recall when the car started stalling out while driving. It is now at volkswagen of macon waiting on parts for a $1,000 repair. We are going to get rid of the car because we are not putting my son back in a car where that is even possible.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the fuel pump had failed. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000.

The dealers (sunrise volkswagen, 931 sunrise hwy, lynbrook, ny, 11563, and smith volkswagen, 4304 kirkwood hwy, wilmington, de, 19808) verified that the fuel pump module and pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer confirmed that the parts were unavailable for repair and that the contact would be notified when the new remedy and reimbursement information were available. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
The company issued a recall for this issue with no remedy. My vehicle experienced this issue prior to the recall and we paid out of pocket for the repair that they recommend however, they will not reimburse us because they have not specified a "repair" on the recall although they do provide a remedy. This is a technicality on their (vw) end to not reimburse customers for repairs that they already know are needed. Prior to the repair we experienced symptoms below. Loss of power while driving and no start. We had no option but to pay for repairs out of pocket. Recall described as: fuel pump control modulevw action code20aenhtsa recall number17v509start date08-16-2017descriptionon certain vehicles, there could be an interruption in electrical power from the fuel pump control module. This could result in the fuel pump running continuously, resulting in a drained battery and/or a no start condition, or cause a loss of motive power while the vehicle is in motion, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.remedyreplace the fuel pump control module and relocate it within the vehicle.

While on 4 lane road at 50 mph the car just stopped running. Battery light came on and no power to steering or braking. I was able to pull over without to much incidence. Vw sent notice in october regarding recall and now say "pending" recall since they don't have a determined fix just yet. 3 months and still no idea how to fix??? i paid my local shop $975.00 as they knew how to fix right away. Simply replace the fuel pump. And now i simply wish to be reimbursed so i can spend that on other needed repairs. Vw founded in 1937, made cars for 80 years now, and they can't figure out how to repair a fuel pump in 3 months??? that removes any confidence anyone should have in owning a vw of any model.
Sudden fuel system failure caused engine to quit multiple times while driving in traffic. After a few minutes sitting dead in traffic, the engine would restart and the car would operate a few minutes until the engine shut-off again. There was no warning that the engine was going to quit. The car had plenty of fuel.the following trouble codes were present when the car was taken to a mechanic:p3043- fuel pump mechanical malfunctionp0087- fuel rail system pressure too lowultimately, the low pressure fuel pump, the high pressure fuel pump and the fuel control module were replaced. Even though the car had only 32,000 miles, vw declined taking any responsibility for the failure.

Acceleration hesitation for 1-3 seconds when throttle engaged at low speed.
I recently purchased a new 2009 volkswagen passat cc sport vehicle through boardwalk volkswagen of richardson texas, who had the car shipped to their location from tynan's vw in colorado. I picked up my brand new 2009 volkswagen passat cc sport vehicle with 24 miles on the afternoon of saturday february 28, 2009. On sunday, as i was driving, the car would not accelerate and fumes started coming out the engine compartment and transmission fluid leaked out and sprayed all over the engine rendering the car a safety hazard and fire hazard. The car was towed by vw roadside assistance to boardwalk vw, which upon closer inspection, they found the transmission lines mispositioned in such a way that the cooling fan motor cut the lines open causing catastrophic transmission failure. The engine compartment has been contaminated with potentially flammable transmission fluid, and the transmission was run with extremely low levels of fluid by the roadside assistance service to get it on and off the tow vehicle, seriously reducing the market value and safety of the vehicle. I went to take pictures of the compromised vehicle with the faulty transmission line routing and another passat cc vehicle with thecorrect transmission line routing. To see the problem, the car was raised, and the underside engine compartment cover was taken off. In the vehicle in question, the transmission lines were routed in front of a radiator tube, leaving them in close contact with the rotating radiator fan, which eventually cut open the lines causing the leak. The fluid leaked into the engine compartment and was blown into the entire engine by the radiator fan. In the other vehicle, the transmission lines were routed behind the radiator tube, which shields them from coming into contact with the fan. This can be used to start a recall on all passat cc models to have them checked for incorrect routing of the transmission lines, which can cause catastrophic transmission failure and customer problems.

After repeatedly applying brake they finally catchhas happened at least 5 times.this time they didn't catch and i rearended a pickup waiting at a stop sign.i don't think i failed to apply the brakes properly because i raised my foot off the brake and reapplied them at least twice before impact but that is never-the-less still a possibility.
The description of the recall on the 130 earlier passat vehicles was exactly what we had.the steering wheel made a grinding noise when started and the warning light came on.the car was somewhat drivable but w/o any power assist whatsoever.i am a man and could wrestle with it to get the car out of the parking space and over to the local dealer.but my wife would have been stranded.and i fear what may happen if this failure occurred when the vehicle was in motion.there would likely be an accident through no fault of the driver.this had happened to my wife several times but if she shut the engine off and restarted the car, the problem went away.the dealer said they could not duplicate the problem and even sold us a new battery as their machine was showing low voltage codes.the tech even said that may affect the steering, since it has electronics.not sure why in the world we need steering systems that have electrical components.i think that vw has underestimated the number of vehicles that likely were manufactured with this defective part.the repair was an entire new steering rack for the car.
Vin tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat cc. The contact stated that while driving 2 mph, the steering wheel seized and would not turn in any direction. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the dealer stated that the steering rack needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified and the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 112,199 and the current mileage was 112,400.

Takata recallwanting to know if my car is one that has been recalled for 18v148000 and 08v57700 for suspension
Went to work on a sub zero temps day. Car was warming up. Went to pull away she the steering warning light came on with a 3 chim tone warning and locked up the steering columm. Had car towed to an otherized dealship where they scanned vehicle and found four codes for steering rack but was unable to detect any warning lights on dash board.
While the car was in motion, the power steering light came on and the steering was disabled.pulled the car over, turned off and restarted.problem went away for a day or two.same thing happened again and resolved same way by me.happened again - took it to the dealer and was informed i needed to replace the power steering rack.i asked the dealer if this was a common issue and the response was "extremely rare".i took to authorized vw repair centers (non-dealer).could not quote an exact price for the "repair" as none of them have ever seen a repair like this needed on a vw.did some research and found vw recall no. 48j1/p3 which was issued for the 2009 passat but apparently not for my vin?the hazards as experienced in this publication are what we are experiencing.can you help me understand how that is possible?vw is refusing to contribute or cover any cost of the repair and it is a high safety concern for my family.
Since i bought my car with 75000 mi on it 3 years ago, when i put the key in the ignition and start it the car shuts down and tells me steering control lock malfunction.someone had told me to change the battery, i did so and the problem still persists.it is due to a faulty immobilizer key.sometimes the car won't even start, and sometimes it directs me to take it to the workshop.i have spoken to volkswagen a number of times about this issue, because it was a recall for the 2008 model of my car, but they insist that 2009 didn't have the problem.i know from speaking with others that have the same year make and model that i am not experiencing an isolated incident.just as a number of other problems vw needs to own up to it's mistakes and offer a resolution to this problem.even if it is changing the ignition system to a regular turn style key.
I tried to hit my breaks and they failed to work and i hit the car in front of me
When backing up, or going forward slow, to park with front wheels turning there is a snapping sound which a an arizone vw dealer blames on salt/sand from ne. Car was on lift in maine and i painted undercarraige and there was no sign of rust except on parts of clamps/screws. Vehicle was washed a minimum of once a week during winter.moved to az and the snapping is more evident. Vw replaced much of the front end and had car for three weeks. I have an extended warranty on the car and still had to pay over $1200.00. I was told to take it to a vehicle repair service to have it checked out.
Stopped to get gas came come back outside to start the car car would not start indicator on dashboard said the power steering system has locked up.
My steering will lock up and fail, but then after i restart the car a couple times it works again. Then it fails without warning. I get the auditory alert as well as a solid red steering wheel on the dash. There is a recall on 130 of this exact car, but when i do a vin search it is not included. The current recall number is 08v577000, and i want to know about getting my vin included since its the same failure. It has already been to the shop 3 times to be corrected, but only in the steering wheel, not in the steering box as indicated on the recall. My wife was driving it when it failed, but was in her patients neighborhood when it lost power steering (likely within the 5 mph speed for it to fail).
The power steering system fails when the engine/engine compartment gets hot.the problem has appeared after the car has been shut down (such as when refueling or a quick run into a store) and then restarted.when the key is pushed in to start the car, there is a loud grinding noise, a visible shimmy of the steering wheel, followed by the red steering wheel icon indicating there is a problem and 3 chimes.the steering wheel is locked in position with very limited turning ability and ability to control the direction of the car.
My car has less than 35000 miles. The steering wheel column lock is defective has been appearing on my instrument panel. This defective part will not allow the car to start at time. Further investigation revealed that it could cause the car to stall while it is being driven. A search of the internet revealed that this is a frequent problem with this make and model of the car. It is a safety issue which is not caused by normal wear and tear. Volkswagen refuses to repair the vehicle at no charge for a known safety issue. I want volkswagen held responsible. If the vehicle stalls while in motion, i will file a lawsuit. I want to give your company the opportunity to resolve it first.
When parked or while driving the steering column locks up causing the car to lose the ability to steer or will automatically shut the car off while in traffic!!there have been several on line complaints about this same issue and volkswagen refuses to acknowledge this faulty part which not only endangers the driver and passengers but everyone out on the road in the car's path. I have uploaded the other complaints about this very dangerous issue.
The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen passat. The contact stated that the eps warning indicator randomly illuminated. The vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 08v577000 (steering). The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was excluded from a manufacturer steering recall. The vin and failure mileage were not available.
My power steering lock up on me 2x red light came on the second time and bing 3x. Steering wheel would not unlock right away. Took the passat down to a authorized dealer and they said it needed rack and pinion and it cost $ 1,772.33.my passat is 6 years old and had only 37,270 miles. This steering problem should have never happen with low mileage. I called the vw care center to ask if it was recall they said no. And was not under warranty. Because it was over 3 years old. I will never buy other vw again scents they will not stand by their product.
The car had been driven a short distance and parked. Shortly after that it caught on fire and was destroyed.

To replace the fuel pump control module.nothing has happened yet; however, when the ignition is turned off, something keeps spinning.erieit occurs sporadically.right now the car is at the dealership and has been there for a couple of weeks.they are supposed to be repairing the main engine seal leak.to do this, they have to remove the transmission.this is the second engine for this car in approximately 2 years.they first engine went out at 52000 miles. The dealership informed me the warranty company picked a used engine to replace it.the engine had about 56000 miles on it.i filed a complaint on all of this in nhtsa website during the time this was going on. I also filed a complaint with consumer affairs--to no avail.
