Takata recallwe were first notified in april 2016 that the takata airbags in our2007 vw passatt "could potentially rupture...metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material, which may result in serious injury or death to the vehicle occupants."four months have passed and still there is no remedy available.it is not reasonable that volkswagen does not issue an update as to when the remedy may become available.consequently, we live in daily fear of a possible death by airbag malfunction. Today's ny times has a front page article detailing the money-based wrong decisions of gm to buy the takata product when experts in the field testify that the ammonium nitrate used in the devices is unstable over time.deaths and injuries have resulted.when will we know about the availability of the replacement parts?

On 4/92014 the air-bag warning light came on when i started the car. Manual states that this indicates the air bags may not deploy when they should but that they might deploy randomly while the car was driven.i took the car to open road vw in manhattan a vw dealership & service facility where they found "fault 2513" for seatbelt sensor and replaced it under the certified pre-owned warranty with which the car was sold. Open road vw stated that this repair was covered under their 1 year warranty on parts & labor as well as vw's cpo warranty. On 5/14/2014 (mileage 25,280), the airbag warning light came on again. Again i took it to open road vw. They found a fault for the passenger's seat belt force recognition sensor g453. Found defective buckle and replaced it.this repair was covered only by vw's cpo warranty as, the service rep said it involved a different part than the first repair and was therefore not covered by the parts & labor warranty provided by the dealer. On 6/23/2014, airbag warning light came on again. Found 1 fault n200 for resistance too low, replaced connectors for both front seats., charged $50.00 deductible as, again, this was a different repair than the last. I contacted vw of america's customer care and they said i would hear from a supervisor. The supervisor e-mailed that she would call me today, june 30, but i have received no call. On 6/28/2014 airbag warning light came on again at 10:pm could not take it the dealership on sunday because it is closed, but wrote to the supervisor on sunday. Called vw customer care this morning. Said supervisor would call me, but also that my cpo warranty had expired at midnight june 29, 2014. As this is an ongoing problem that began in april i expect it to be covered. It seems possible that this recurrent issue with the airbag warning light may indicate a potential danger to me and other ownersof this vehicle.

Takata recallhello, it has been over a year now and i still can't have our airbag replaced because vw doesn't have a fix ready.i don't understand how it can take a year with a risk as serious as potentially sending lethal shrapnel at my 3-yr old daughters' sitting in the car with me.this is unacceptable and they need to be forced to correct this asap!!!!

Takata recall. The recall was issued in february this year, yet my vw dealership (where i routinely go for repairs and checkups) tells me a remedy was still not available. I.e., i am driving a car with a potentially lethal default, which is known of, yet the manufacturer is either unable or unwilling to remedy asap? i am extremely concerned and unsure how to proceed.

Takata recallair bag fault light is on non-stop, a recall for airbag is issued, concerned that if airbag deploys i will be killed by the shrapnel. Car is not worth the repair to the airbag fault light, as the airbag it will deploy is dangerous. Vw of usa cannot help me. Can't sell the car as is...too dangerous. Also a wandering electrical problem that causes doors to be unopenable from the outside...never know which door or how many will not open. Today it is the driver's door.have been paying on it, but haven't driven it (out of fear) since august '15. I owe $2045 on it...want vw to buy me out and scrap it. Car woke up with the airbag fault light one day. Vw usa is very sorry for my problem, but no fix available/no buyout.

I'm in zone a (or 1), texas and my car is a 2007, 9 years old and within the range that i've seen stated high risk but my car isn't listed in any of the priority groups for repair.according to this, priority group 1 is vehicles from model years 2008 or older that have spent time in a high absolute humidity region and have either a recalled driver-side inflator or recalled inflators on both sides. Parts must be on hand march 31, 2016, and repairs completed by december 31, 2017.why aren't any vw cars in this list?(vw cars aren't on any priority list).

Airbag light came on for no reason. There might be a resistance on the airbag system causing it to turn on. I read that the resistance variance within a front seat side impact airbag connector can cause the airbag indicator light on the instrument panel to come on and stay on, even though the side impact airbag system is functioning normally.

Volkswagen passat 2007 passat water leak footwell that causes passenger side airbag damaged :suddenly after a rainy day, water comes from sunroof to the passenger side footwell and made carpet wet and stores water below the carpet. That caused passenger side 's airbag malfunction results in airbag fault. I went to the dealer and they told me it happens with some vw cars and please get your car checked for water leak. They told that they are not responsible for neither the airbag nor the water leak. I believe there was too much water below the carpet which directly puts the integrity of the safety in danger since it the electronic parts and wires were in water for long time.

I am affected by manufacturer recall number 69q9, nhtsa recall number 18v148 and the parts for this repair have not been available at the dealer for almost one year!!

I would like to bring to your attention an issue that is happening with my 2007 volkswagen passat 2.0t.the cars airbag fault indicator light is on indicating that the air bag will not deploy if in an accident.i had an independent car mechanic investigate the issue and he informed me that the air bag fault is indicative of a bad sensor.i have an appointment with keffer volkswagen in huntersville north carolina to accurately diagnose the issue on 8/1/2014.i called volkswagen (703-364-7000) on 7/25/2014 and spoke with a customer advocate to file a formal complaint and ask them if they would cover the cost of the repairs.since it is a safety issue and the issue has close proximity to the harness recall from 3 years ago i expected them to cover it.(i had the harness rewired with the new harness as a part of that recall.)volkswagen told me that they would not cover the cost of the diagnosis or repairs due to the age of the vehicle. Case # [xxx]. I have concerns because i know this is a bigger issue and not just a problem with my car.i have provided some screen prints of other volkswagen owners complaining of the same problems.several drivers have been in accidents where the airbags did not deploy.drivers are concerned about the airbag not deploying during an accident and of the air bag deploying while driving.i also have the same concerns and i believe that this issue should be investigated as a design flaw / defect that could lead to a larger safety recall.if volkswagen is to fix the issue with the same parts will the issues continue to persist?this is deeply concerning, especially when an employee at huntersville north carolina informed me that parts and labor are only covered under warranty for one year after the repairs.will i be paying for this same repair over and over again?your urgent attention and response is expected. Takata recall:i brought my 2007 passat to kuhn vw in tampa, fl. At first they refused to fix the recall, because vw was coming out with another one in a few months and they wouldnt receive payment for the first one.i came back 2 months later in july 2018 and had the recall completed.i decided to drive the vehicle when i returned from work in oct 2018 and the horn and steering wheel buttons no longer work, the very next day, i get a airbag fault on the dash.i'm not sure, since kuhn never said, if the two were related.they wanted to charge me $129 for a diagnostic, which i refused and complained, then they did it for free and stated that its the clock-spring?i find it ironic that the clock spring would go out after installing this recall.reading some of the other complaints which some have stated the same problem. Started my car to warm it up, came out to drive it and the airbag light was on. Dealer turned it off twice before the wiring harness and airbag had to be replaced. This was a very costly repair and i feel it should've been volkswagens bill, not mine as i did nothing to cause this and it was caused by poor craftsmanship, which i did not pay for.

The airbag default light warning is on on the dash board. I was told by volkswagen dealer that the airbag is defective and needes to be repaired, they said that it was never been recalled. I am just wondering if there is any previous recall for that or are there many people complaining about this problem. When the problem started, the vehicle has only 72000 miles. Also i noticed that most volkswagen repairs need to be done by the dealer ( it's kind of monopoly).

Takata recall i contacted all local vw dealership for recall and was informed parts will not be available until september.i understand the overwhelming impact this is creating (production/delivery/installation) however i inquired as to whether there is any way to deactivate or turn off the airbag in the meantime (3+ mos) and was informed there isn't a way to do so.now i'm afraid to drive my car.is there no temporary "fix" to prevent from the airbag being deployed and potentially causing serious injury or death?

Takata recall, on june 18th 2018 i took my car in at volkswagen dealership on figueroa street in los angeles regarding the 2 recalls on my vehicle and i called the volkswagen manufacturer the day before they told me the only thing that could be fixed was the takata airbags recall but the other recall was still pending so they didn't do anything to my car and i have an invoice showing then thing was done that even takata airbags for fix i complain to the volkswagen manufacturer and they said that the airbags were fixed he sent me a email copy of the invoice and it's a different invoice than the one i have mind you that the miles that are on the invoice that they send me are not the miles on my vehicle at all to this day i'm still having a hard time i'm getting everything fixed in my car the two recalls they keep on pressuring me to go ahead and and pay out of my pocket for everything to be done my car is sitting there parked i still make payments on it my tags are up next month i need a smog check and i cannot get a small check cuz it won't pass cuz the check engine light is on i've been back and forth with the volkswagen dealership and still nothing they said there's nothing they can do regarding a pending recall

We have heard nothing from our local dealer regarding a time schedule as to when the airbags will be replaced even after repeated calls.what has been happening with regard to this recall and requiring the vendor to provide a timeline?

This passat continues to have air bag issues. The air bag fault light has gone on multiple times in last 12 months. Per the vw tech's, the air bag will not deploy when the light is on. The air bags, wires, harnesses and components have all been replaced. At last visit to vw, they stated nothing else can go wrong because it has all been replaced. The vehicle is currently in for same repair.the above date is an estimate. But, it has been serviced for this issue by current dealer since 8/11/11.

We have been waiting on a list to get the airbag replaced. My car was involved in a rear end collision with air bag deployment, and car is considereda total loss and lucky no one was hurt. The car should not have been driven until it was fixed but that is not possible, i think vw should have at least offered a rental till it was fixed. Now i have a totaled car because of airbag deployment. The roads were wet and person in front of him got cutoff and slammed on my brakes and my car rear ended that car. There is a police report and insurance claims. I can send pictures upon request to a email address.

Air bag light is on .. Called the dealership and keep getting a round about my air bags and the service they did on my car .. They had my car for 3 days and the morning i picked it up about an hour later had to have it towed back in again because the didn't do the recalls right .. Now my engine light is on and my airbag light is on .. I've called and they do not want to listen to what i have to say .. They are telling me more things could be wrong and it will cost a lot of money to fix it .. I've had my car for almost 3 years with no problems and now that they have done work on it .it keeps messing up?

We purchased our 2007 passat 3.6l 4-motion wagon and had issues with the airbags from day 1 (literally), and had the dealership replace the sensors under both seats within the first three days. Within a month, we began having issues with the tire pressure monitoring system. New tires fixed the tpms issue for about a week, then we began having issues again.a year after we bought the car, my wife had an accident (rear-ended someone), and the airbag did not deploy. We had to have the entire front-end repaired - $10,237 worth of repairs. After the repairs were completed, there was so much external noise than there was before the accident. Over the next 8 months, we began having issues with the check engine light coming on (and staying on). When the car shut off one day, right in the middle of (busy) traffic, i took it back to the repair shop to have them look at it.they took our 2007 passat to the vw dealership, which made a blanket statement that none of the existing issues were related to the wreck. Therefore, the repair shop would not do anything more to fix the car, and since the car was no longer under warranty, the dealership would not cover the repairs either.on october 29, 2012, 14 months after the accident, the check engine light came on again, as it had many times before. However, on october 30, 2012, the engine died completely. We've since discovered that the bearings are completely gone and were told it will cost us $7,000 to replace the engine. But that still doesn't include repairs to the previously existing issues with the tpsm or the airbag.

Both recalls were not corrected when this vehicle was sitting at the epic motorsports dealership located in rosemont illinois

Takata recall - airbag light is on - i have 2 airbag issues and have asked vw to assist with rental car as long as they cannot remedy a new takata air bag, and dealer informs it will be months. Contacted the dealer and vw america several times for assistance for temporary car replacement if they cannot fix the takata airbag,vw america call center does not help and their service center is sneaky to ring my cell no and leave no message to document a record of cust servic- with no solution.yet dealer did say another customer asked for re-imbursements of rental car and now vw refuses to work with customers who have rented cars, the problem has left me out of pocket for hundred of dollars.according to vw america they do not have a program ' that is their decision not to help customers manufacture needs to provide. This is complete negligence on behalf of vw america. Honda is covering their customers.

My emissions light keeps lit, my airbag light says malfunction, vehicle was stationary when lights came on.

The frontal airbag inflators may release deadly metal fragments when deployed. Recall issued last february 2016, but 9 months later, there is still no remedy for this ticking bomb.

"takata recall" my airbag light went on and remains on. Upon going to a vw dealership...i was told "ya that means the air won't deflate if you were in an accident".they never went into the car! i was told for them to run a test it would cost 125.00. I couldn't believe what i was hearing from a vw dealership. This is a safety issue and should be resolved with a cost to the customer. I then went on to a gas station...they had hand held device that could detect what the problem was. It came up as defect # 01217, side air bag igniter, drivers side(10199). They recommend taking it to certified dealer(which i did) as they did not have the parts to repair. The gas station did not charge me anything. Something is very wrong here!

Takata recallnhtsa recall #16v079 still has no fix available from volkswagen.the start of this recall was feb. 9, 2016.in nearly 10 months no fix has been provided.the concerning part is the potential result in death of a life saving airbag actually deploying.this is the opposite of what an airbag should do."in the event of an inflator rupture, metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material, which may result in serious injury or death to vehicle occupants"vw and takata need to resolve this matter.

It's been about 3 months already and i really need a car for work and school, the least volkswagen can do is keep us updated about the car, i'm even thinking about getting a new one. I just hope they find a solution fast

A/c was not cooling as normal then the a/c was not cooling at all. The day the a/c system failed i was driving on the highway at the speed of 70 miles per hour and it was raining heavily. All windows to the vehicle fogged to the point where i had no visibility. I pulled over to the emergency lane. I had to wait for the storm to pass to open my windows and be able to see through all windows. I drove the car home and made an appointment with a vw service shop the next day. The shop checked the a/c system for refrigerant and found that it was contaminated. They vacuum/drained the system, refilled it with new refrigerant, and replaced the temperature sensor for the a/c system. The a/c was working as normal for two months then without warning my a/c system was not cooling at all. I took it back the next day to vw service. They found that the a/c compressor shaft was seized to the compressor housing. To repair it they had to replace the compressor, expansion valve, and condenser. They also cleaned to a/c lines, vacuumed the system and refilled it with refrigerant after putting all the parts together.i was without a vehicle for a week. Till this day my a/c system is not working properly. For example, i drive the car one day, the a/c works and normal, and the next day it does not cool at all. It works at random times. To add, the same time my a/c was broken my air bag warning light came on. Vw checked it and found that the front passenger side igniter had too much resistance. To fix it they removed the front passenger seat and bypassed the front passenger side airbag plug. Then they checked the seat harness and reinstalled the seat. My air bag warning light is on again. Moreover, the sunvisors lights didn't work, shift knob was corroded, the rubber seal to the satellite antenna rotted away, and both tail lights on the interior started to burn and look melted. All was replaced under warranty. Good for that because i couldn't have been able to pay for all the repair costs.

Electrical problems from day one - constantly a new light on that never stayed on.driver's airbag issue that vw says is an electrical problem under the driver's seat - a few hundred dollars to fix a few months ago, the check engine light came on and vw charged us to run a diagnostic test that came back with 12 failure codes, the two most severe being intake runner motor and high pressure pump. Then, not long after, the car literally shut down on the highway and we could hardly get to the side of the road (mind you no prior warning lights were present). The only one that came on for a split second was the epc (electronic power control) light before the car shut off. The vehicle had to be towed to vw dealer who after investigating the problem, said that the engine was shot. And, i almost forgot to mention that the air hasn't worked for 2 summers. Vw claims that this is because a bad compressor was put in the passats. $1800 to fix.these issues are completely unacceptable and we don't think any of the above problems should be our responsibility to pay. Vw needs to step up and take responsibility for their faulty engineering.

Just bought this car and at 94206 miles on it i can't see how the air compressor would go out and i shouldn't have to pay for it i want to see if there is recall on this at all it's a 2007 plus there 2 recalls number are 1st one is 20ae- nhtsa recall number is 17v509 august 16 2017 and now 2nd one is march 15 2018 manufacturer recall # 69q9 nhtsa recall # is 18v148 i don't see anywhere if the recall were fixed

Here is problem that i am having with my 2007 volkswagen passat. While i am driving the car shuts down completely. This has happened to me about three times this year . It has almost caused me to be in 3 accidents and to have to quickly pull off the road. Ihad the car towed 3 times to the dealer because the car locks down and i cant put the car in neutral to tow it. It takes an experience tow truck driver to get in on a flat bed with the wheels locked. The dealer is telling me they cant figure out what is wrong with it and they can not get the car to replicate the issue, from the forums i have been reading vw tells everyone the same thing. I have already paid 2000 to get this car fix and vw still has not fixed the problem, but from what i am reading it sounds like it the steering wheel lock issue. Vw needs to recall this, it not my fault that this car has this issue. There needs to be a class action law suit. Everyone driving this car life could be at risk, this car should not shut off at 70 miles hour with trafficbehind you... This could cause a fatal accident and it would be vw fault!

Electronic parking brake will not set or will not release.problem is intermittent, but progressive, beginning with failure to set and culminating with failure to release, in one instance triggering master brake failure warning.failure to set makes car illegal to drive and dangerous when parked as there is no back up system to set parking brake.failure to release strands driver in possibly dangerous situations.vw says in this instance only solution is to call for tow. Failures may at times be cleared by restarting engine, but progressively less successful.car has been to dealer three times since problem arose.3 days in june, 2 days in early july, and most recently 35 days and counting (since july 22).dealer has replaced multiple modules multiple times, overlaid wiring, etc. Without solution.despite a senior mechanic being placed on the job, no source of fault has been identified and by all appearance logical diagnostic work has ceased and haphazard parts replacement has begun, i.e., "hope" is the only remaining corrective strategy.dealer is sympathetic but of no benefit.vw customer care contacted but promised follow up by them has not been made.as car can still be operated when electronic brake fails to set, this creates a possibly widespread public safety issue since car cannot be properly parked and must rely solely on transmission holding car.

Car would not start towed to independent vw repair shop.was told that the steering column lock is defective and it is covered by vw recall, he was able to get the car running. Next day while driving the car it emitted 3 beeps and stalled out while in motion unable to get car running had it towed home. Contacted vw of america was told the is an outdated service bulletin which expired as 02/2013 all repairs are now on the car owner.this is an unsafe car stalling out while in motion.

In below freezing weather, i was trying to leave my child's daycare.when the key is inserted properly into the ignition, the car beeps and presents a warning "steering column lock defective!" it would not start for 45 minutes - just kept turning over and immediately dieing (lost spark, presumably, as part of the immobilization system).took it to the dealership and they immediately recognized the problem and joking sarcastically implying that this happens all the time - the stalling at startup is a direct result of the steering column lock problem.the entire steering column has to be replaced along with a new control module (around $200 in parts) along with 4 hours of labor (quoted around $375 for me).this problem is widely reported on passat message boards with initial costs being as high as $1,900 until vw of america recently discovered a more cost effective way to fix the issue.also, vw of ireland has acknowledged this as a software defect (see irish times article from 11/4/2009 entitled "staring problems with a vw passat").there are reports that vw of canada are repairing this for free on out of warrantied vehicles as well.how many have to fail in america before it's a recall?wouldn't a computer fault keeping a car from starting be a safety issue?what happens if the module fails while driving - either the car determining the key isn't correct would stop the engine, or if the steering column does lock while driving at highway speeds?

My vehicle's gauge cluster has random lights that come on and cause the doors to lock and not open and it resets itself after 1-2 hours and it continues to do it.

A nice summer day transporting my family, including two small children to a baseball game.temp was 80 f, no wind, mostly sunny.came to a stop at a red light.when the light changed to green, pushed on accelerator.vehicle hesitated, than accelerated slower than expected in a halting, herky-jerky way.check engine light came on and the vehicle started to slow.i was able to move the vehicle off to the side of the road, where i contact road side assistance and the vehicle was towed to the dealership.the dealer reported replacing the coil on plug ignition.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and the key was unable to be removed from the ignition. The contact also mentioned that the vehicle failed to shift from park to neutral. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic where the failure was unable to be replicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 75,000.

Put keyfob in the ignition and it would not start. The lights in the dash illuminated but engine would not turn.also steering lock warning lock keeps blinking. Car is stuck in park, made several attempts to have it towed, before finally having an experienced tow truck driver drag it on to a flat bed because of car being stuck in park, key fob locked in the ignition switch, has been towed to 3 different shops who have yet to pinpoint the exact problem with the car. One shop claimed it was an electrical problem and that it had something to do with the ignition switch however were unable to fix it. Has spent xxx amount of money having it towed to several shops and still not fixed. Frustrated!!!!!!

There is an electric steering column defect which makes the car stop all of a sudden in the middle of the drive. After that, the car would not start even after trying for at least a minute. This is dangerous as the car just stops while you are driving.

The parking brake malfunctions due to an error in the electronics system board. This issue is severely under-reported as a large portion of cars affected ignore or reset the error by disconnecting the battery each time it appears.this needs to be an official recall but vw refuses to do it because they claim "not enough cars are affected".

Driving home while stopped at a traffic light my car felt like it jerked forward though my foot was on the brake.i stopped my car briefly to get dinner, took a phone call and decided to leave. I put my car in drive and it would not travel forward.i put it in reverse and it would not respond.i looked at the display which indicated i should depress the brake pedal, i did. The message disappeared but the car would still not travel.i checked the parking brake button, it was on.i depressed that but it would not turn off.everytime i put the car in drive the same depress the brake message. I called the dealership. It was suggested i keep trying to disengage the parking brake."the car thinks the parking brake is on"i have never used the parking brake on this car.it came out of the showroom.finally the brake disengaged.my second stop resulted into the same scenario.my fear is that this happen while i am driving.i am taking my car into the dealership in a few hours if it will movein. This car has been ideal up to this event.

I was driving the vehicle at night when the driver side headlight went out. Took vehicle to volkswagen dealer to fix problem the next day. The dealer told me the insulation came off the wires inside the driver head light assembly. The 2 exposed wires touched and shorted out the control module. The vehicle had to have a headlight assembly 3c0-941-005-ae and control module 3c8-937-049-ac replaced for the driver side headlight to work.

During the failures the message "steering lock module failure" had displayed. The vehicle was towed the local dealer serra of traverse city(1747 s garfield traverse city mi.) who diagnose steering lock module faulty. The module was replaced but the failures continued. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 137,000. The vin was invalid.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. While driving 60 mph, the contact noticed a glitch across the instrument panel. The engine stalled and the vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway. The vehicle had to be coasted to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the failure was an electrical issue. The manufacturer stated that nothing could be done due to the remedy not being available. The contact was advised to call back in a few weeks. The failure mileage was 170,000. Airbag light came on for no reason. There might be a resistance on the airbag system causing it to turn on. I read that the resistance variance within a front seat side impact airbag connector can cause the airbag indicator light on the instrument panel to come on and stay on, even though the side impact airbag system is functioning normally.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. The contact stated that the key fob failed and became stuck in the ignition. The steering column defective light has illuminated on the instrumental panel after trying to insert the key. The failure occurred on an intermittent basis. The contact was able to remove the key from the ignition after several attempts.the vehicle would not start and was not inspected by a dealer nor was it repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

Currently my 2.0t 4 cylinder engine is experiencing failures noted by the diagnostic system with fault code p2181 cooling system performance along with a cylinder 1 and cylinder 4 misfire.the suggested remedy for the p2181 error is to replace the thermostat and/or the water pump.in researching community forums, this pairing of issues appears widespread.there is a possible manufacturing design flaw that correlates the failure of engine coils and/or plugs with failure of the water pump as the water pump is driven by the timing belt.furthermore, the functions are linked in this way allowing one to cause the other to fail.this is evident with a check engine light on at all times and while driving the misfire will occur between 2000-3000 rpm and cause the vehicle to jerk and stutter.the misfire causes loss of power and the check engine light flashes.

The 2007 vw passat wagon 2.0t has been riddled with electronic failures which continue to escalate.we have honestly lost count of the amount of days this vehicle has been in for service - at least 9 incidents, twice towed.initially the problems were benign, such as the horn going off at random intervals in the middle of the night.there were two incidents of the car not being able to start after sitting for only two or three days, which was diagnosed as a faulty battery.problem escalated to inoperable window and door mechanisms, delays upon acceleration, air conditioner malfunction, and most recently complete engine shutdown while driving 55 mph on the highway.upon having vehicle towed in to service department, we were told "the car started right up and tested fine on the computer" and that there really isn't anything more the mechanic could do without a better computer diagnosis.attempts to speak with managers have gone ignored and unanswered.i am currently waiting to hear from volkswagen group of america in response to an email i sent to their online customer care.

I was driving and2 light came on , the battery light and the check engine light. I ran it though a scanner and the codes that popped up were code p0087 and p2293

2007 vw passat "steering column defected". My key "fob" to the ignition gets stuck inside the ignition slot. Car will not start. Sometimes it will start but then immediately die. I have to very slowly push the fob back and forth to finally get the car to start eventually. Problem is, there are thousands other 2006-2007 vw passats and jettas that have this issue. It is unsafe. The vw dealer is charging on average $1,400 to replace the defective parts.

I started my vehicle, and within 30 seconds i smelled burning. I shut down engine and noticed smoke bellowing out from under hood. I lifted hood and found an electrical harness on top of engine was on fire and melting. I was able to borrow pliers from someone and disconnected battery cable. I had vehicle towed to dealership, and they called me this morning stating that the coil had an internal short. I asked them how i can be assured that this wouldn't happen again when parts are replaced and there reply was " this is very rare". I have a baby less than 2 years old and it scares me to death to think what may of happened if my wife was driving with my child.

The contact owned a 2007 volkswagen passat. The contact stated that the doors would not be secured unless the vehicle was in park. The failure occurred randomly. Also, the gears randomly shifted out of park without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. While parked and unattended, the vehicle randomly rolled in reverse at a high rate of speed and crashed into a house down the street. A police report was filed and the vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but the contact was uncertain if the vehicle would be inspected by the insurance company and the manufacturer. The contact was waiting on information from a repair shop or the manufacturer. The failure mileage was not available.updated 07/27/16*lj

Sudden failure of steering wheel. Display shows "steering wheel lock". This could be serious issue if it happened during driving. Unable to start the car or to get the car in neutral gear. Had to tow the car to the vw service where it was diagnosed with steering control module failure.

This car is out right dangerous.my wife is driving on the express way 70 miles an hourthe emergency brakes come on to her surprise and lock up.thank goodness is was able to get it to the offside without incident.it seems this a common thing with this model, the gas pedal also cuts in and out unexpectedly causing the car to jerk violently in traffic. Ive just about had it with this thing.

2007 volkswagen passat. Consumer writes in regards to loss of motive power while the vehicle is in motion

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. The contact stated the vehicle would continuously stall sporadically without warning .the vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the mechanic diagnosed the failure as a faulty alternator, battery or both. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where both the battery and alternator were replaced. The contact was concerned with the safety of the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were 20,000.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. Three days after the vehicle was purchased, an abnormal odor of fuel came from the vehicle. A day later, the odor worsened and the contact could not enter the vehicle. In addition, the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact called momentum volkswagen of clear lake ((844) 894-5461, 15100 gulf fwy, houston, tx 77034), but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,000.

Oil bolt failure on 3.6l engine resulting in complete mechanical failure of engine.cost of repair is approximately $6000 which is not coverd by any warranty.i understand this is a known defect in this engine which vw did not recall, but recognized by making made spec changes in 08.

Engine lost power and began misfiring. Engine light came on. Dealer tells me two days later there is carbon build up and needs manual decarb. Cost is 1k. Engine has run on premium fuel and has regular maintenance. This is a hazardous condition for a very low mileage vehicle.

On saturday jan 10, 2014, while cruising at approx 45 mph driving straight, on a dry and clear day, the ecp dash light came on with no warning and the power of the car diminished significantly slowing down immediately and acceleration was extremely slow making it unable to maintain traffic-flow speed and driving uphills was even worse, slowing down and not able to maintain speed until over the hill.(virginia hilly roads).i took car to the local vw dealer, terry vw lynchburg,va who told me that the 2 timing chains and all associated parts would need to be replaced with an estimate of $3536.00. I mentioned to them about the issue relating to the 3.6 engine in this make/model/year having a repeated problem with the oil pump bolt that holds these together working loose and that vw had recognized this issue and replaced the "oil pump bolt" with a new model bolt on the assembly line after this same issue had occurred repeatedly with other owners of this same 3.6 engine. Same issue recorded multiple times in vwvortex.com, passatworld.com, carcomplaints.com, volkswagendefect.com, arfc.org, and others. I contacted vw of america who denied this problem existed and that they would not assist in the repair whatsoever. Since this is not an isolated issue and vw is not ignorant of it, and it causes the car to slow down immediately without notice, this could have been a serious issue had i been on a hi-speed highway and/or in congested traffic, vw needs to recall these vehicles with this engine and replace these items as this is not a normal failure item on most vehicles with is low of mileage.

While driving on the highway there was a loss of power and the engine started running rough.the check engine light came on and stayed.the car wouldn't go over 10 mph.car was towed to a shop and was advised that an engine was needed.they informed me of a oil pump bolt coming loose and the engine jumped time.they said this is a common failure on these engines.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. The contact stated that the vehicle was in the driveway at the contact's residence. The contact started the engine, and it immediately stalled. The contact restarted the engine and noticed that there was smoke coming from the dashboard. The contact disconnected the battery and left the doors open. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer begley auto repair located at 3401 manatee ave w, bradenton, fl 34205; phone number: (941) 748-3297 where it was diagnosed that the whole wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 72,000....updated 11/15/17 the consumer stated the vehicle was declared a total loss.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle lost power and shut off without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the contact may be reimbursed for the repairs related to nhtsa campaign number: 17v509000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer sent some paperwork to the contact that needed to be completed for the reimbursement. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

Son was driving down highway and front end of vehicle started to shake then stalled and would not start. Towed to independent mechanic. Replaced hpfp ($1500). Now told the timing chain jumped and has to be replaced with timing sprocket, timing tensioner, and intake came shaft. Not sure if there is damage on engine bottom as well. The cost is over $2000. Vw does nothing but does acknowledge faulty parts. My sn could have been killed on the highway. This car has 78,000 miles. It should not stall at 65 mph.

Engine failure at 170,000 due to timing chain tensioner failure. Engine died at 170,000 miles due to the failure of a part that has failed. If we had known that this is a issue we would have replaced the inexpensive part at the timing belt replacement interval for a nominal amount. Engine failure while vehicle was in motion on a city street. Now we have a car worth nothing.

My car was burnt on highwayweek ago.all my families were on the car that time.i called the police office, the policemen and firemen arrived and put out the fire in 10 mins.2 days later, after we checked the car with the investigators from the fire dept., they found that there are 2 holes on the engine, the oil sprayed out and touched the high temperature area inside the car so the fire happened!

Over the last few months, starting in march, we have had increasing problems with our 2007 vs passat wagon. When stopped at a stop light, or stalled in heavy traffic, the engine suddenly just cuts out and dies. The car will restart again, but this can happen repeatedly. Also, while driving, the car will suddenly begin to lose power and start to de-accelerate for a few seconds before pressure on the gas pedal reconnects to the engine. It's terrifying. We have taken the car in to numerous service providers (all authorized vw) and they are unable to detect a problem on the vw plug in computer analyzer or see anything wrong on visual inspection.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. The contact stated that the engine failed and the vehicle hesitated while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing, which located a failure code that the engine oil container had defective plastic. The failure caused the engine oil to spill onto the top of the manifold. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The vin and failure mileage were not available.

My vw passat 2007 stalls and/or does not start.it has stalled while driving on the freeway and then sometimes does not start at all.sometimes if tried after a while it may start.i'm told it is a high pressure fuel valve problem that is part of a recall but my vin does not qualify for that.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, the engine stalled and the epc warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000.

Http://www.passatworld.com/forums/volkswagen-passat-b6-discussion/327507-3-6-oil-bolt-failure-reference-material.htmlthe oil bolt has backed out of its position and affected my timing chain. Due to this, my car was unable to start.this is a common problem from the 06-07 passat, yet vw has done nothing to remedy this issue.

My 16 bought a car from bommarito vw hazelwood, they told us it had prior engine work and the customer couldn't pay for the charges so they sold us the car.when test driving we heard a clunk every time you would excel.the salesman said it was stuff in the trunk. Come to find out there are no motor mounts holding the motor and the motor goes up in the air when you give the car gas, the motor hit the exhaust and broke it.there is no way this car passed inspection with a motor hanging there, you can't see through the back window because the tint is so bad.a dealership should not of sold a vehicle with a motor like this, it's a bit dangerous to put a young girl in.it has taken me two weeks for someone to call me back.

My car was driving fine until feb 2018 after i get it back from getting the suspension redone. After driving it 20 miles my car stops running as i am driving through a major road leaving the military base. I get it towed to the volkswagen dealership and they state that the high pressure fuel pump had failed (after 2 months of fixing my regular fuel pump) causing the engine to loose compression and now they said i need to pour in a new engine and new high pressure fuel pump and a turbo that was scraping metal shavings into my engine as well.

While driving on the highway the check oil light came on and the engine made terrible sounds.the car was pulled over immediately.had to be towed 60 miles to the nearest town (missoula mt).the engine was seized up due to a failed oil pump.the dealership and a local shop both were familiar with this failure mode.a defective oil pump bolt came loose, casing the pump to fail and destroying the engine.the car only has 68,000 miles on it.as a known manufacturing defect, it is very disappointing that vw does not recall this and fix the problem.it is fortunate that no injuries were incurred, but an elderly woman was stranded along the highway in a remote area.the engine is a vr6 code blv, a 6-cylinder 24 valve engine.this needs to be corrected.

The contact owned a 2007 vw passat sedan. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph, when he heard an abnormal noise and seen flames coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated immediatley stopped the vehicel and attempted to open the hood but was unable due to the flames. The contact stated he burnt his hands. The contact stated no warning lights were illuminated.the fire department was called and extinguished the fire. The contact was unsure if a fire department report was filed. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.

While driving my car after exiting the highway, my car suddenly lost power and went from being okay -- to not able to accelerate to faster than 20 miles per hour and running extremely rough. I was on a busy street and this was quite frightening.took the car to a mechanic and after $1600 of other repairs with no result he finally diagnosed the problem as the timing belt slipping due to a faulty oil pump bolt. Apparently this oil pump bolt is failing on lots of passat 3.6 vortex engine and should be under recall -- since the fix is a ridiculously high amount.i will not beable to afford to fix this vehicle and will be paying for a car i can't drive.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. While driving various speeds, the vehicle would not properly accelerate. Upon inspection, the contact discovered oil on top of the engine. Camel back volkswagen (1499 e. Camel back rd, phoenix, az) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 56,000.

The weld beads on the down pipe flange adjacent to the turbo charger failed and resulted in a huge exhaust leak. The heat (coming out from the opening) got trapped in the engine bay and melted the vacuum hose connected with the brake booster. As a result, power decreased but most importantly, breaking power was lost as well. This happened when the vehicle was in motion. Luckily, i was not driving fast and just exited the highway. Very dangerous and the defect on this model is actually not uncommon. Low quality factory welds on the components should be re-welded and the cheap hard plastic hoses should be replaced with better quality and more reliable hoses.

Purchased a 2007 volkswagen passat in 2013 from curry honda dealership on peachtree ind blvd and they took it to volkswagen dealer to get certifiedand inspected / volkswagen found 5 recalls they said they updated, but 2 yrs later the check engine light came on and stayed on ....the sensor was bad which was found in the engine upon diagnose. Volkswagen dealer would not fix it on cobb pkwy and did not log it as an issue. I was unable to get emission inspection year to year and finally had no choice but to give it back to the bank / captiol one. Curry honda refused to fix or take the car back.

Complaint involves an engine failure i had on my 2007 volkswagen passat wagon 3.6l.the problem stems from a faulty "oil pump bolt/cam bolt" . This problem has been cited with numerous 3.6l vw owners and more information can be found on the vw sponsored vwvortex website.i am filing this complaint because of the potential for fire or personal injury.vw needs to recall these vehicles and replace the faulty bolt before owners warranties expire resulting in costly repairs (to repair this problem the engine needs to be removed).http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3193697http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3448589thank you for your attention to this matter.

On start-up, engine trouble lamp comes on, sometimes steady sometimes blinking.if blinking, vehicle misfires, engines shakes violently.submitted to vw, inc.-owned dealership repair facility on 4 occasions for same problem.vehicle has been in repair facility for 15 of the last 30 days.vehicle purchased 01/2007 and to date has been driven 6,500 miles.dealer repair rep says vw cannot identify source of problem, and has no idea when the repair will be completed.dealer denies that any tsb has issued.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat.while approaching a stop, the engine began to rev and the rpm needle increased.the vehicle was in drive and the brake pedal was depressed at the time.the contact placed the vehicle into park and turned off the engine.when he restarted the vehicle, it seemed to operate normally.after a few days, the failure recurred.the dealer stated that the cause of the failure was due to a recall on the engine for unintended acceleration.the vehicle was repaired, but the contact was unsure of what was actually repaired.three weeks after the repairs were made, the failure recurred, the vehicle jerked forward and crashed into the bumper of the preceding vehicle.the dealer was notified and the vehicle has remained there ever since.no repairs have been made yet because the diagnostic results indicate that nothing is wrong with the vehicle.the vin and recall number were unknown.the failure mileage was 11,434.

A bolt in the oil pump failed causing loss of oil pressure on highway.engine shut off at speed in moderate traffic.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat wagon.while driving approximately 65 mph, the check engine and oil lights illuminated.the contact pulled over and noticed blue smoke coming out of the exhaust.he shut the vehicle off and attempted to restart it, but was unsuccessful.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that there was catastrophic engine failure due to the defect nuts from the oil pump.the dealer replaced the entire engine.the vin, engine size, and number of cylinders were unknown.the failure mileage was 23,000 and current mileage was 25,000.

Complete/catastrophic engine failure at approx 1,800 miles. Dealer stated bolt relating to timing chain failed, causing serious internal engine damage.vehichle was replaced, but new vehicle has same engine, and many others with same engine are having similar failures.

False epc and check engine lights. When checked by dealer, they stated there was nothing wrong and only software update was needed. I was concerned that there was a software glitch that will affect the correct functioning of the vehicle.

2007 volkswagen passat. Engine started knocking so i had it towed to the dealer. It ended up needing a new engine because the high pressure fuel pump plunger failed and sent metal into the engine destroying it. Vw refuses to pay for it.

My 2007 vw passat wagon has 3 times on trips longer than 4 hours in 0 degree weather started chugging and shaking on the highway.each time has been worse and lasted longer.the first time a call to a vw dealer said it was the gas cap and it would be ok.the second time a subaru mechanic diagnosed misfiring and a bad coil so i took it to a vw dealer who said there was nothing they could find wrong to fix.the third time i was nearly stranded on a remote highway.i eventually got home to my private mechanic who agreed it was misfiringand a bad coil and will fix it.

My wife was driving alone in our 2007 volkswagen passat with the 3.6 liter engine on a remote, lonely rural road when the "check engine and oil" lights illuminated. She pulled off the road as soon as possible but was frightened at being alone and stranded on a remote road. Fortunately a texas state trooper drove by, stopped and called a tow truck from the nearest town.the vehicle was towed to a vw dealership. The engine was declared a total loss, apparently due to loss of oil pressure.an estimate of $12,000 was quoted to me for replacing the engine. Volkswagen of america refused to authorize repairs under the 60,000 mile power train warranty in spite of thenumerous complaints registered on line for this exact same problem with this exact same year, make, model and engine including nhtsa odi numbers 10229007, 10203527, 10203183 and 10193036 and additional numerous complaints on the vw vortex website. I have the original odometer disclosure statement showing that vw had driven the vehicle 195 miles before i purchased it.i am filing this complaint because of the potential danger of personal injury to occupants due to fire or harm from passing motorists due to being stranded in a remote location. Vw has known of this problem for some time but has refused to take action to remedy the issue prior to catastrophic engine failure.

When decelerating to a stop, the engine revs more than normal. The failure occurs intermittently. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The speed was unknown. The current mileage is 4800 and it happened at 4780.

Vehicle low oil pressure alarm came& stop engine alarm, i stopped vehicle, no oil on dipstick, i put in 4 qts, oil, still not full, took to dealer, they said it needs piston rings, i asked about the turbo & internal parts possibly damaged due to oil starvation, theywill only replace rings, if anything else fails after the repairs they will repair it as long as it is still under factory warranty, the vehicle has approx 13000 miles, i requested a new engine since the vehicle is new, no help from customer service or dealer, i am afraid i will have to replace the engine after the warranty expires due to some internal parts premature wear due to the oil consumption which was confirmed by vw dealer, approx 1.9 quarts in 662 miles.

I was driving the car when the engine failed without any warning and without any dashboard instruments indicating impending failure. Me and my co-passenger are lucky to be alive today. Further we are lucky we didn't crash into a public bus pulling in at the bus stop as we veered to the right to brake and park the vehicle. This car has been meticulously maintained at the dealership since its acquisition and at the 65,000 service it was given an excellent bill of health. When the car was towed to the dealership for repairs it was diagnosed as unusual engine failure.

No throttle response, long accelerator pedal repsonse from a standing start or rolling start. Trying to move into traffic is dangerous, press on the pedal even floor it and nothing happens, stuck in the middle of an intersection coming into traffic, then eventually, all 280 hp come on and the car almost gets out of control if turning. This happens all the time. This is a new car, i have had the car since 4/14/07 and finally taking it to the dealer next week to see what they can do.

I have experienced an engine hesitation (or misfire issue according to the dealership) and loss of power as described in nhtsa action # ea11002. The dealership replaced the spark plugs to try and correct the engine faults.

We had few failureson vw 2007 passat wagon; first was a recall on one of the software parts (approx 28 000 miles); then ac pipe system recall; then we had an oil leak (37 000 miles-no damage or warnings prior to that)-dealership fixed it without much explanation; laud noise from the engine- gasket on one of the vales in the engine failed (45 000 miles)-no prior warnings-fixed without much explanation from the dealership except that if we keep driving? car will use more gas then usual...

Volkswagen passat air conditioner quit working.i took it to the dealer, where all the service has been performed since the car was new. They call and tell me that the compressor has gone bad, and when it failed it contaminated the whole air conditioning system, which include the evaporator, compressor and fluid and that they all need to be replaced and system needs to be flushed.our car has about 43000 miles and has been "in service" for 4 years and 3 months, which is three months out of warranty.the dealer said they have been doing a lot of these repairs.i think it is way to early for these components to fail.my truck is 10 years older and still has all the original air conditioning parts and work perfectly.i think they need to recall these compressors and take care of this problem.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. Whenever the contact was driving the vehicle at various speeds it began to lose power and hesitate. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer and there were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 38,000.

Oil pump bolt failure causing complete catastrophic engine failure.

Excessive external car noise while idle. Loud noise in motor area when starting car. Nothing can be done according to reydel volkswagen dealership and shrewsbury volkswagen dealership. I have researched and found other customers have complained about this same issue and has not been handled by volkswagen corporation.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat.when decelerating to a stop, the engine revs more than normal.the failure occurs intermittently.the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure.the speed was unknown.the current mileage was 7,000 and failure mileage was 600.

Two separate incidents.first occurrence 7/12/08., mileage 18,185. Oil pump socket broke resulting in complete engine failure while driving.engine was replaced. Second occurrence 1/27/09.complete engine failure while driving.currently being replaced.

Was driving 50 mph on highway when engine stopped running all warning lights came on. Shifted car to neutral unable to restart the engine while coasting into a parking lot. I was first told it was a high pressure fuel pump. Then on further inspection i was notified it was a complete engine failure due to the oil pump assembly coming unbolted. Car is in the shop &vw has offered to replace engine with a rebuilt engine. Still being resolved at this time.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat wagon.while driving 75 mph, the check engine light illuminated and the contact heard a loud rattling noise coming from the vehicle.the vehicle then lost power.the dealer stated that a bolt sheered off inside the engine.as of september 27, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle.the vin was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 3,500.

With just 12,000 miles on the odometer the 2007 volkswagen passat 3.6l 4-motion wagon, thecheck engine light came on a block fromthe house.i called the dealership right away and brought the car in the next morning. Turns out that my car's engine had a fairly recently discovered known issue with some sort of bolt in the oil pump that is somehow related to the timing chains. Apparently, it's a newly discovered design defect that allows this bolt to back itself out and create big problems - even catastrophic engine failure. At first, the dealership ordered a replacement oil pump as a fix but the master tech who was working on my car was concerned that other unseen damage might have been done an appealed to vwoa for a total engine replacement.vwoa must have agreed with the validity of his concerns and authorized a full engine replacement. My car's build date was 11/05 . I have also read forum posts from several other owners who have also had this problem (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3193697).

Oil pump bolt sheared, causing engine to seizeand stop running. Was stranded. No warning given. Dealer replaces oil pump bolt and related damaged parts (oil pump, timing chain). Over 30 people at this forum have experienced the identical failure. Http://forums.vwvortex.com/zero thread?id=3462993please make vw of america issue a recall to prevent this bolt failure from afflicting other owners of 2006 - 2007 3.6l passat cars.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat wagon.while driving 70 mph, the check engine and epc lights illuminated.the vehicle would not accelerate and the engine began making a thumping sound.the contact did not notice any differences in the vehicle prior to the failures.the vehicle is currently being diagnosed by the dealer, and the engine is being replaced.the current and failure mileages were 21,670.

On hot days engine rpm's raise substantially, to the ~1k rpm range. Almost like it's racing. This also makes it difficult to hold the car stopped when this occurs.

The engine stopped without any explanation in the high speed lane ( full tank of gas) while i was driving on i-91. I could not start engine again on freeway. Fortunately, we didn't have an accident.aaa and police came there within five minutes and we could get off the freeway by towing. Before stopping, the check engine light andepc lights came on.my car is very new.i've just driven my car only for two weeks. The mileage of my car is about 900 miles.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. The contact stated that the air bag and catalytic converter malfunction indicators illuminated. Also, a speed warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to hanlees hilltop volkswagen (located at 3255 auto plaza, richmond, ca 94806, (510) 283-6300), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 171,700. Consumer stated air bag sign is on was told needs $2,000 repairs catalytic converter not able re pair $2500 repairs the brake system always on. Not able to sustain repairs on the car and feel my safety is in danger.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. The contact stated that the air bag light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs but to no avail. The driver side sun visor light also would not illuminate and the light was replaced by the dealer. In addition, the air conditioning system was repaired several times and most recently failed again. The contact stated the drain had to be cleaned of contaminated solvent and repairs were also made to the temperature system. The manufacturer was not contacted in regards to any of the above failures. The failure mileage was 20,578 and the current mileage was 39,000.

Air conditioning does not work. On foggy and rainy days air conditioning is necessary to obtain a good visibility while driving. Several 2006 and 2007 vw passat models have this problem.

Takata recall, fuel pump control module recall, wirrs for headlamps failty. Head lamps go out while driving sometimes, faulty parking break that has been fixed and does not work again. No fix for fuel module recall. Car stalls while driving in traffic. Paid 5200 out of pocket for both recalls. Car can not be inspected due to recall with no fix. Been fixing the recall problems out of pocket since november 2014. Also fuel cap light comes on while driving and gas gauge does not work. Both also have been repaired and are again now faulty

The low beam lights provide extremely poor lighting resulting in very poor visibility and creating a concerning unsafe night driving. The front projector headlamps fixture installed in this model are very poor and creates a very dangerous driving, i have tried to upgrade the lamps but there is not improvement. This issue should be recalled from the manufacturer, it is a life safety matter. Please help. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. While driving at night with the headlights activated, the lights would not illuminate in front of the vehicle which impaired the vision of the driver. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who indicated that the position of the lights were too low, but no adjustments to correct the failure could be made. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 285,000.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. While driving at various speeds, the low beam head lamp on the passenger side failed to function. In addition, the rear passenger side lamp and the turn signals failed to illuminate. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the system needed to be flashed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 111,000.

Passenger headlamp (dipped low beam) is held in place by friction only. New lamps installed fall out of socket while in use daytime running and night time vision). New hardware was purchased per manufacturer illustration, but there was no place to attach hardware to back of low beam socket. Entire headlamp assembly (including high beam and marker light) had to be replaced.

The head lamp assembly of this car is clearly unsafe. Replacing the car headlight and/or high beam bulb can result in loosening or bending the metal housing that holds the bulb in place which can result in a loose bulb. A loose bulb can burn and cause a car fire.

Coil pack cracked after 45,000 miles and caught fire. I caught it in time and was able to put out. Replaced coil pack and any damaged wires associated with the fire.

My 2007 passat 2.0t wagon car has developed a symptom when the rpm goes over 3000 specially when i need acceleration and it cuts of the power (fuel or something else i don't know, there is a tsb regarding to cam shaft lobe wear this is the exact symptom i have) the mil comes on with a code 2293. I went to the dealer and they say y vehicle is over warranty mileage and they will not cover it. I noticed many people are having the exact same issue on the internet and when driving on the highway this is a serious safety issue since the engine power cuts off. By the definition of the tsb this is apparently a manufacturing defect they even release an updated part and advise the dealers to use the updated part. I like many others are forced to pay a hefty repair sum just after couple thousand miles over warranty period. In my opinion vw needs to issue a recall on this issue. *ln

2007 volkswagen passat. Consumer writes in regards to loss of motive power while the vehicle is in motion

2007 volkswagen passat. Engine started knocking so i had it towed to the dealer. It ended up needing a new engine because the high pressure fuel pump plunger failed and sent metal into the engine destroying it. Vw refuses to pay for it.

My vw passat 2007 stalls and/or does not start.it has stalled while driving on the freeway and then sometimes does not start at all.sometimes if tried after a while it may start.i'm told it is a high pressure fuel valve problem that is part of a recall but my vin does not qualify for that.

On a tuesday or wednesday in early june 2017, i was accelerating from about 20 miles/h to 40 miles/hour on braddock road eastbound while on its bridge crossing the capital beltway (i-495 in va) when the vehicle suddenly jolted forward. No other indicators went on at the time, but the check engine light illuminated the next time i started the vehicle. I took the vehicle to vw of fredericksburg (va) for diagnosis and repair. At the time, it was on its first replacement low pressure fuel pump/control module set that was installed at priority vw of chester, va, in late september 2014. Replication of the june 2017 problem took just a day in the shop, but diagnosing the core issue and replacing the associated parts took another 5 weeks. The fuel pump and control module had to be replaced under another recall, plus a portion of the 1st replacement fuel pump lodged in the fuel line running from the fuel tank to the engine. That required replacement of several fuel lines and associated fuel system components. The relevant portion of the final bill totaled over $2000. The $470 portion covering the low pressure fuel pump and its control module were taken care of by vw of america, but the $1500-1600 portion covering the rest of the fueling system was not.

Recall id 280936i have contacted vw about the recall, i filed a reimbursement claim, but they have not been able to approved it because i fixed my car on my own, i took my car to a mechanic when the problem occurred, they could not fix the problem, then i took to another mechanic, the problem was not found, so i took to volkswagen where they could not find the problem. After that i contacted my brother's mechanic so checked it and he found the problem. He works on his own so bought the parts and paid him cash.i have not proofs about the payments because i paid the parts cash. I would like to know what can i do about this case. Attached is a letter from the vw with the case # . I already told vw that i cannot provide proofs.

My emissions light keeps lit, my airbag light says malfunction, vehicle was stationary when lights came on.

I smelled fuel while i was changing tires and found the fuel tank sending unit is cracked and leaking fuel

I contacted the volkswagen headquarters concerning a recall notice for, a fuel pump module and was informed the part was not available at this time. According to the recall this part could result interruption of electrical power to the fuel pump, drained battery, fuel pump running continuously and loss of power while vehicle is in motion resulting in possible injury or crash. I am already experiencing trouble with driving this vehicle. The company suggested to pay for the repairs and i would be reimbursed. I am not in a position to due that monetarily. I believe the company should provide a temporary replacementuntil this matte is resolved. This is the second recall for this vehicle, the first was airbags which was replaced, thank you for your assistance concerning this matter.

We asked jack daniels to fix the fuel pump as we received notice of the recall.they said they could not do it.our car now bucks at high speeds, particularly when driving uphill.what should we do?we do not think the car is safe to drive.

The smell of gasoline inside the car is unbearable, i saw leaks from the bottom, running down the gas tank, so i removed the back seat, and found that the top of the fuel pump was cracked in many parts, and fuel comes out, non stop, through those cracks. This is not supposed to happen with the fuel pumps. It is an extremely dangerous issue, specially when the electrical connexion are right there. A little spark can be catastrophic. A few years ago, volvo had a recall on this exact issue. I think vw should do it also. God knows how many lives are in danger right now. Mostly children that ride in the back seats. I am trying to cover the cracks with a paste, but it seems it is not working. The gasoline keeps coming out even when the car is parked and off for a long time, i disconnected the pump, and it does not stop. I did not take pictures before i put the paste, but even with the paste, the gas is coming out through it.

I purchased the vehicle from a used car dealer on 7/26. I test drove it and everything was running smoothly. The vehicle had 124k miles. I bought the car in las vegas, nv with the intent on taking it to california for my teenage daughter to have in college. On 7,30, i was driving and the vehicle would not accelerate ast 20, like it was placed in neutral. This occured in the evening so i could not call anyone. I coasted off the road. Turned the vehicle off, then restarted and it worked fine. I looked on this website and saw there were recalls for the fuel pump module. I called a dealership who couldn't do it until late august. Findlay volkswagen scheduled me for 8/6. I was leaving town so i left the vehicle with family. I picked the vehicle up on 8/17 and headed to california. The same thing occured twice while on the road. We called a local vw dealer, they said it would cost $144 just to look at it. I took it to a local mechanic who tested the vehicle and said it the actual fuel pump. I contacted volkswagen corporate, who were very responsive but can not help. Here i am, with a vehicle that could stall on the road, causing an accident that can harm or kill others. Volkswagen knows its the faulty module that can cause the pump to fail, but leaves customers high and dry to have to replace the pump. My daughter saved her own money to buy a reliable vehicle and now we have to fork over more money. No engine lights are on. It's disappointing and sad.

The lid for the fuel tank which contains the vehicle fuel filter is cracked and was leaking pressurized fuel underneath the passenger rear seat any time the key was on. This is the exact same problem that volkswagen has issued recall 20z4 for touareg model vehicles. The first symptom i noticed was the car had to be cranked for only a second or two longer for the engine to start. After about 3 days of experiencing a minor short crank i was parked in a parking structure and had to crank the engine over for almost 20 seconds before the engine started. This is when i began to smell gasoline. I drove the car about 2 miles home and removed the rear seat and fuel pump access panel and found the top of the fuel tank covered in fuel. I took the vehicle to the dealer and they confirmed my diagnosis of a "fuel filter flange" leaking which was replaced and resolved the fuel leak and prolonged crank.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. While driving 55 mph, there was an abnormal fuel odor inside the vehicle. After the contact inspected under and around the vehicle, he lifted up the rear passenger seat and noticed that the fuel pump flange on the top of the fuel pump was fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000. The vin was not available.

There is an outstanding safety recall that opened 08-16-2017 involving the fuel pump control module.volkswagen says a repair is not yet available - after nine months!this is unacceptable.

I was driving and2 light came on , the battery light and the check engine light. I ran it though a scanner and the codes that popped up were code p0087 and p2293

Both recalls were not corrected when this vehicle was sitting at the epic motorsports dealership located in rosemont illinois

Just bought this car and at 94206 miles on it i can't see how the air compressor would go out and i shouldn't have to pay for it i want to see if there is recall on this at all it's a 2007 plus there 2 recalls number are 1st one is 20ae- nhtsa recall number is 17v509 august 16 2017 and now 2nd one is march 15 2018 manufacturer recall # 69q9 nhtsa recall # is 18v148 i don't see anywhere if the recall were fixed

Fuel pump control modulewe contacted volkswagen about the failure of the fuel pump control module and were told that this one is not covered under the nhtsa recall. The problem: replacing the battery in september 2017 and having a starting problem in mid-october. Took the car to a volkswagen dealer... They ran test to find out the problem, well the battery failed the test so they had to replace but at the same time they told us the fuel pump control module was failing. They stated it was heating up and should be replaced. When i did some background research on a fuel pump module i found recall notices which included 2006-2010 passat wagons which is our car. The recall states," the pump condition also could cause the fuel pump to run continuously, draining the battery and making the car unable to start". This was happening on the month old battery we just had replaced. So i want to find out if this car can be included in the recall because it is a problem that is in keeping with the recall!

The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v509000 (fuel system, gasoline) and stated that the part was not available within a reasonable time frame to schedule the recall repair. The dealer (legend volkswagen, side a, 158 merrick rd, amityville, ny 11701, (631) 691-7700) was unable to verify when the remedy and parts would be supplied from the manufacturer. The manufacturer was contacted. The contact was not experiencing a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

My vehicle's gauge cluster has random lights that come on and cause the doors to lock and not open and it resets itself after 1-2 hours and it continues to do it.

Went to go grab lunch yesterday. As i parked i placed the parking brake on. However once i came back to the car. The brake would not remove itself. The system kept reading parking brake fault. I had to wait there until a tow trunk came to tow me to the dealer. The car would not move. This is very unsafe. I have also came to park a few times in the brake placed itself on.

Transmission does not shift into gears smoothly or sometimes not at all. Car has trouble shifting into gear going into reverse, while driving normally going 40 miles an hour in traffic, after a stop at a stop light or after putting on breaks to slow down behind car that has put on breaks. While pressing the accelerator nothing happens, car just revs as if it was in neutral and will not move, then will finally jerk/shift usually hard into gear.

The automatic transmission does not want to downshift.per the manufacturer instructions/owner manual when the vehicle was new, the oil change for the automatic transmission was not recommended in contrary. That change in few years in vw books but the consumers where never informed about it.the issue started when the vehicle had about 74000 miles but it was past the number of years for the power-train warranty (probably 8 or more).the issue happens when a brisk acceleration or going uphill and maintaining speed is required. When accelerating the transmission should down shift two gears from sixth to fourth for example, the transmission bogs downand the whole car shakes violently and losses speed.i've tried to fix the issue by changing the transmission oil at the dealer and that was when i found out that they revers course on changing fluid for the automatic, however that did not fix the issue and vw did not want to fix it or take responsibility for the issue.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. The contact stated that while attempting to park, the vehicle stalled and independently rolled backwards without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.

*ln

I was driving southbound on connecticut rte 15 at about 60 mph on the afternoon of april 8, 2014, when my engine suddenly raced and i lost power to the drive (front) wheels. I could not maintain speed or accelerate; i could only coast. I was in the left lane of the two-lane roadway. I had to coast between vehicles in the right lane, over to the breakdown lane. This was very dangerous, and my vehicle could have been struck. Once i came to a stop in the breakdown lane, the car would not move at all. I had it towed to a repair shop, where i learned that the left axle had popped out of the transmission, and that both axles had to be replaced. Note that there was no impact of any kind that precipitated the axle's popping out. Also note that i had always had all scheduled maintenance done in a timely fashion.

The car will idle at 900-1000 rpm when coming to a complete stop.brake must be held heavily and if released, car will lunge forward without driver engaging accelerator.this occurs intermittently after car has sat in the hot sun.temperatures are not above normal for the area this summer.took car to dealer (mileage 38,000).problem replicated for dealer and service dept contacted vw of america (vwa) for assistance.vwa contends that operation is within normal specs and that car is commanding the higher idle speed to bump up alternator output.vwa states this is due to high summer temps although summer temps for the area are average this year.we and dealer are not satisfied with answer but vwa refuses to investigate further and closed the issue.dealer reports another car of same make experiencing the same problem.

While driving down the freeway my son tugged on his seat belt and it came undone.i pulled over and tried to buckle it at which time i realized the latch was not working.the latch clicks so it sounds like it is secure but you can pull the belt out with very little force.

Two rearseat belts in my car stop working.i'm concern that since this car is less then 5 years old, thata device that should last the life of the car is malfunctioning.

2007 vw passat passenger seat warmer caught the vehicle on fire.

The parking brake malfunctions due to an error in the electronics system board. This issue is severely under-reported as a large portion of cars affected ignore or reset the error by disconnecting the battery each time it appears.this needs to be an official recall but vw refuses to do it because they claim "not enough cars are affected".

Electronic parking brake failure.

As my husband was driving our volkswagen home from work, he was merging onto an interstate at rush hour, and just as he got up to speed, the parking brake engaged (it's electric--it just turned itself on!). He managed to stop safely and had it towed to the vw dealer, where they looked at it and called us with an long list of things that would need to be fixed--the valves blew, the cv joints cracked, the transmission basically exploded, etc etc etc. It's about $6k worth of repairs! we had it inspected only 2 weeks before and everything was fine, so we're pretty sure this is what happens when the parking brake suddenly engages at that 70 mph. I don't know how my husband managed to maintain control of the vehicle. I am certain i would have been in a serious accident.further research online shows that the electronic parking brake on the 2005-2010 passats frequently had problems, disengaging or engaging unpredictably. The vw dealer service desk told us that they had seen a similar problem on a cc sport just two weeks prior (they actually noted this in the diagnostic report they gave us). I was telling this story at church, and a lady overheard and told me that the same thing had happened in her vw--though luckily they weren't going so fast and there were no other cars around.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the brakes were applied and abnormally traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle also exhibited an increase in stopping distance. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The dealer stated that the hydraulic brake line was defective.the contact referenced nhtsa campaign i.d. Number 06v472000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and called the manufacturer. The manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in the recall. The contact did not have the hydraulic system replaced. The failure mileage was 150,000.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the braking assist system light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. After diagnosis, they advised him that the brake vacuum line failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages was approximately 60,000.

My 2007 vw passat has broken down 4 times in less than 3 years with rear brake failure. The mfg. Has never fixed this problem, and is unresponsive to my numerous requests, to repurchase or fix my vehicle. I believe this to be a very serious defect as it causes my rear brakes to be inoperable. This is the first production year for vw electric rear brakes, and i believe they have a serious design flaw.

I own a 2007 volkswagen passat wagon with a 2.0 liter turbo engine. It was purchased in july 2008 as a certified pre owned vehicle with roughly 8,000 miles on it. Almost immediately, i noticed when the brake pedal was pressed hard, the pedal would go all the way to the floor. Vw inspected this and told me that it was designed to function this way. The problem with this (as i discovered later on) is that the brake pedal and gas pedal are very close together. In an emergency situation when the brake pedal is pressed hard, it goes past the gas pedal. On two occassions when braking hard in an emergency, my foot caught on the gas pedal and i was applying the accelerator when trying to brake. This is a serious design flaw that could potentially be very dangerous. Volkswagen continues to tell me that this is how the car is and that nothing can be done for me.

Leaving my home on my way to work in the am my brakes failed the pedal went all the way downpanic and pumping they returned before i reached the stop sign, the 2007 passat wagon has no ebrake just a button for the parking brake, which i did not use.i drove the car for the next 2 weeks without it happening again, then at the same stop sign (the first one i reach when i leave my house in the am) it happened again, pedal to the floor, pump, panic & just before the intersection they work.the weather on both occasions was rainy, and about 38 degrees.i took the car to the dealer, they could find nothing wrong with the brakes, the mechanic said if i was desperate i could push and hold the parking brake button this would lock the cars brakes and put it into a skid. I am still driving it without any more failures but i fear another one will.the only reason i was lucky enough to not have a crash from the failures is because this is rural driving.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat.the contact stated that the brakes slip and grip rapidly when the brake pedal is depressed and attempting to stop the vehicle.the failure occurs while driving 20 mph and below.the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure.the vehicle is currently at the dealer for the third time and is taking longer to repair than usual.the current and failure mileages were 15,000.

I have a 2007 volkswagen passat and the steering column lock is now defective and the car wont start the car only has 53000 miles and it has only been out of warranty three thousand miles and this is a very costly repair about two thousand quoted by the dealer. Dealer also said that they could not fix the problem and that they had seen a few cars with this same problem.

I have been experiencing a steering column lock defect warning on my dash and the car often will not start without repeated attempts. This appears to be a common and very expensive defect with passats and the vw passat blogs are full of complaints about this defect.i contacted vw and they were no help. The rep offered her sympathy but nothing as far as vw taking responsibility for the problem.it appears that this defect can result in steering wheels locking while driving, engines cutting off without warning, and the car not starting leaving drivers stranded.i will be delivering the vehicle to the local vw agency for repair and request that the nhtsa require vw to reimburse all passat owners with this problem for all related expenses to correct this very dangerous defect.

Problem: heads up display in car says "steering column lock defective." car starts up, then stalls and the engine cuts off. This warning is displayed, along with three loud beeps. After this message is displayed, the car will not start up with repeated attempts at inserting the key. Tries to start, stalls, tries to start, stalls, etc. Sometimes it will start on the second attempt, sometimes i have to wait until the 30th+ attempt. Make the car very sporadic in its driving use with whether it will even turn on or not! nothing seems to help this problem. Turning the steer wheel during start, depressing the brake, having the parking brake on, etc. It should be noted however that sometimes this problem does not occur at all. I will insert the key and it will start like normal. But then sometimes i will get the error along with multiple failed attempts at starting the engine. Planning on taking this car to dealer soon and hope that warranty will cover it.

When under 5mph the car will stall or it will not start. It sometimes runs me late for an event due to it will not start. I'm not sure why it does it i've not noticed the pattern yet. The lcd screen will read defective steering column. I've called vw and they will not replace after warranty expires and they want nearly 3k to replace the product of the entire steering column and immobilizer.

I put the key in ignition and the car does not start. Take key out and put back in and then it starts and says "steering column defective". I've read from other 2007 passat owners that they've encountered this problem too. They have stated that eventually the car starts shutting off randomly without notice.

Car either will not start or shuts off. Display states "steering column lock defect".the steering column locks up, the engine shuts down, and high pitched alarms sound.car was taken to dealer and repaired under service bulletin 4815, at no charge.this happened in 2011.this week, in 2014 the same exact steering column lock defect reoccurred.despite this being a known defect among vws, and this being a failure of the previous "fix" vw refuses to do a warranty repair because it is "outside of the 12 month 12,000 mile" warranty on repairs.this is in my mind, a safety issue as the entire steering column locks and the engine shuts down.if this were to occur when the vehicle is being driven, people would be injured or killed.

There is an electric steering column defect which makes the car stop all of a sudden in the middle of the drive. After that, the car would not start even after trying for at least a minute. This is dangerous as the car just stops while you are driving.

Sudden failure of steering wheel. Display shows "steering wheel lock". This could be serious issue if it happened during driving. Unable to start the car or to get the car in neutral gear. Had to tow the car to the vw service where it was diagnosed with steering control module failure.

When i insert my key in cold weather my car will display " steering wheel lock" and my car cuts off and beeps locks key in ignition, releases key after a bit and lets me re try and starts, other times it may take several attempts but has started. I took car to dealer they saw nothing wrong with it but quoted a high price to replace part and mentioned that its a common occurrence! i believe this should be looked into seriously before anyone gets hurt by steering locking!! and it should be recalled!

We own a 2007 volkswagen passat. On june the 15th, 2010, we started getting an alarm indicator saying that "the steering column was locked" and the car would not start. We took it to our local vw dealership, where we were told that it is a national problem, and the parts to fix it are on "national backorder" with no idea when they will be available. I am concerned that this problem will either leave my wife stranded someplace unsafe, or, the problem will occur while she is driving and affect her ability to steer the vehicle. I would like to know if your agency has received other complaints, and are you able to assist in expediting repairs?[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. While driving the vehicle would suddenly shut off.the message "steering lock module failure" had displayed. The vehicle was towed. The vehicle was unsafe to drive due random stalling.the contact stated that while driving the vehicle would suddenly shut off and on several occasions the vehicle could not be started.

I have had my cv boots replaced in 2013 on the left side and then again on january 2016.i had my vehicle looked at on 9/15/17 and was told that the same boot has a tear in it and needs replacing.

The steering column lock is defective it will not start if it starts it stalls out locks up can cause a serious accident on the highway

I am writing you to ask for your assistance in expediting the repair or repurchase by volkswagen of america of the 2007 passat vin [xxx] owned by my company, the lunt marymor co., inc.. This vehicle has a moldy smell that is persistent and is a likely health hazard. When anyone gets into the car they start to cough.the car is not drivable and unsellable. The moldy condition is a result of plugging of both the a/c drain systemand the skylight drains. The oakland volkswagen repair dept, lead by lee molinoni, has worked diligently to correct the problem without success. They've told me they don't know of anything else they can do to solve the problem. If it can't be fixed i am deprived of its use. I did not create this problem. While you have ready access to all the svc records at oakland volkswagen allow me to share with you a brief history of the problem.the moldy smell started in may of this year. The problem was promptly diagnosed by oakland volkswagen as a plugged a/c drain. The drain was cleared and the a/c ducting system was treated by a machine designed to clean the ducts. The machine broke without completing the treatment and a new machine had to be ordered. This took a considerable amount of time to get and i had to drive a moldy car while oakland volkswagen waited for it to arrive. On returning to the dealer, when the new machine arrived, the ducts were cleaned but it was discovered that several valve operated ducts had failed. This required removal of the entire dashboard to repair. The dealership subsequently thoroughly cleaned the car. The moldy smell persisted. My wife and i thoroughly cleaned the entire interior of the car to no avail. I took the car back to the dealership where they then found 3 of 4 skylight drains were plugged. These were cleared. In the course of all these visits the mechanic also found a faulty brake module (the prkg brake wouldn't release) and a failed battery. The dealer.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I was driving and looked over to see smoke rolling up from my center console/arm rest i lifted up the arm rest and saw the smoke coming from the front end. I put my hand over it which stopped the smoke and i drove to the dealership. The only thing near it was 2 bottles of water.

Faulty door handles are preventing access to the inside of the car potentially causing the driver being locked in the car after an accident. For more than one year now, the door handles are only engaging with the inner door lock system occasionally.one can hear the unlock mechanism click when engaging the remote, but when one tries to pull the handle, it is missing the usual tension and lifts more easily than usual, and the door does not open.if one crawls into the car via another door (potentially through the trunk) and manually operates the door handle from the inside, the door will open.however, pressing the auto lock button on any door when inside will release the lock, but will not allow an outside person to pull the handle (which remains still disconnected). The issue started with the driver door and over time has moved to all other doors.i was informed by mechanics that this is a known problem with vw passats and is caused by a faulty wiring inside the door. As it relates to all doors, it seems evident that it is triggered by a faulty design.googling, it appears that door issues are reported for vw jettas as well.this is very alarming because if there was an accident and the driver was incapacitated and unable to unlock doors from the inside (despite unlocking the auto lock system), emergency crews or first responders would likely not be able to open the doors from the outside.

Vehicle subframe bolt failure.los angeles area dealer network has attempted to resolve failure but has been unsuccessful.vehicle has been inspected by multiple dealerships for the same safety issue and has had subframe bolts retorqued subframe with complete disregard to vehicle safety. Subframe bolts are stretchable component to the subframe assembly and should be replaced rather than retorqued when removed or lose.

Upon receipt of the vehicle from the dealership, a shuttering or vibration has been noticed between 65 and 80 mph.original diagnostic efforts yielded a confirmation of the behavior from the dealership, but no solution.i brought the vehicle home and noticed that the lug bolts were not torqued appropriately.tightening down the wheels improved the shaking for a short period of time, but the behavior returned within 24 hours.subsequent diagnostic efforts by the dealership have yielded only a "minor vibration at speed" description with no proposed resolution.

I took my volkswagen passat in for an oil change and check up and was informed that i have a bad front left wheel bearing, which is a safety issue. I was advised not to drive the vehicle on the highway due to risk of the bearing locking up the wheel. The wheel bearing is currently on a nationwide back order due to excessive demand. The wheel bearing replacement part was recently modified due to a known problem. I was informed that it is unknown when the part will be available for replacement. My volkswagen passat is a 2007 and only has 29,000 miles. It is unheard of for a wheel bearing to fail with mileage that low, since wheel bearings only wear out due to wear and tear (ie 80,000 miles or more) or flood. My vehicle was not involved in a flood and i find it hard to believe that all the cars needing replacement wheel bearings around the country have been involved in a flood. The wheel bearings are wearing out prematurely and the fact that they cannot be replaced in a timely manner is a safety issue.

Tire pressure issues with volkswagen vehicles.i purchased this vehicle back in 2007 and about nearly a month after purchase i have had issues with tire pressure. No one from thevw dealer i purchase the car from or another vw dealer can tell me what the issue is. The refrain is there is nothing wrong with the tires. Each month up until july i have to put air in my tire, when i reached the 50k marker and tires were rotated i have to inflate the tire every 3-4 days.

2007 volkswagen passat 4motion.low tire pressure warning.this car has been in two dealers service centers to have this issue resolved over the last two years.a month ago it was repaired and lasted one block. I have asked the dealer and the manufacturer to contact me to get this resolved. I have not received any contact from either. I feel that since this is a federal mandate it should have been repaired under the manufacturers warranty. It was not.*ln

Excessive external car noise while idle. Loud noise in motor area when starting car. Nothing can be done according to reydel volkswagen dealership and shrewsbury volkswagen dealership. I have researched and found other customers have complained about this same issue and has not been handled by volkswagen corporation.

My engine light came on while driving as i noticed the engine louder than normal.i was out of town and was able to make it home safely.i took the vehicle in and had it tested and came up with a code of p0445, p0442 emissions small leak.i had the vehicle repaired that cost me $752.00.in this cost they told me i needed to replace the gas cap.i had the gas cap replaced in 2014.they replaced it at this time in 2015. This gas cap would loosen on its own even after turning the cap until i heard it click.in may the light came on again with vehicle running the same way.i took it in again and the code tested the same.i took the vehicle back in a second time and this time a code came up different however with the same "emissions small leak.this time i was charged $545.00 for repairs.two days later the engine light comes on again. I purchased another gas cap because the gas cap light kept coming on. I repeat my previous steps and come up with the same code of p0442, p0456 small emissions leak.in comparison from the first time i had the vehicle repaired and the second there has been a difference in the gas mileage i receive and how frequent i have to refill at the pump.but the engine light is still on and the problem is still not fixed.updated9/15/15 *lnupdated 12/05/2017

The car would not start. Took multiple attempts. Dealer replaced a module. Problem reoccurred. Dealer replaced relay. Problem reoccurred. Dealer now needs to replace entire steering rack for $2,000, but car is out of warranty and vw will not cover. Many owners are having similar problems .

Fuel pump recall is still pending - been almost a year...!no crash or anything happened - just checking why it takes so long.

2007 volkswagen passat. Consumer writes in regards to loss of motive power while the vehicle is in motion

Got an email in april or may of 2016 saying parts for my recall airbag are unavailable.they would contact me when available. It's eight months later and nothing still!just went to refi my car and i've lost $6000.00 on kelly blue book,so my $ 10,000.00 passat is now worth $4000.00. "due to all of volkswagen's recalls"

Throttle not responsive to accelerator pressure.various responses -- sometimes accelerates normally, other times very little acceleration.occurs when engine is warm and at speed on expressway.i have no idea how the car will accelerate when i need to, e.g., needing to accelerate to switch lanes. It has happened 4 times in the past week (march 27-30, 2010).when this happens, the "epc" and the "slip control" signals on the dashboard light up, as well as an "!" and an image of a tachometer.in the morning when the engine is cold, the warning lights are not on, or when the car has be turned off for a while.i took the car to the volkswagen dealer immediately the first time it occurred on the way home from work (march 30).the service representative indicated that there was a problem between the throttle body and the accelerator.i drove the car home that evening and brought it back to the dealer the next day.i picked the car up that evening and paid $407 dollars for the repair.i indicated that i thought this was a serious safety issue and i would have thought vw would cover the expense.they said it has happened to other cars but there was not recall.the same thing occurred the next day (friday) on my way to work, but not on the return home.the next monday (march 29), it occured on the way home.i stopped at the vw dealer and made an appointment for the next day.the car is currently at the vw dealer and they indicated that the throttle body programming was not working and that they would install a new throttle body ($400 part plus $120 labor -- the part would be free since i am a good customer).i told them that i was going to file a complaint with nhtsa because i thought this was a serious safety issue and to see if this was occurring with other vw vehicles.the service representative also suggested that i contact vw directly.i will do that today.

When stopped the engine rpm's hasintermittently raise substantially, to the ~1500-2000rpm range. Almost like it's racing. This makes it difficult to hold the car stopped.dealer could not duplicate the problem.

There is an unsafe prolonged hesitation when depressing the accelerator pedal on the 2007 volkswagen passat 3.6 liter 4 motion. When depressing the accelerator pedal, nothing happens until you've depressed the pedal approximately 3/4 to an inch of pedal travel, then all of a sudden, the car lurches and accelerates at what feels like half to full throttle. It is a random hesitation, yet occurs at probably 30% of the time. It is most noticeable when starting from a stop, yet will happen on the highway, if accelerating to pass. This is a very dangerous malfunction. If this abrupt acceleration occurs in snowy or icy conditions, it could cause a loss of control. I have experienced several times, when i expected my car to move forward when i depressed the gas pedal, only to have it hesitate and nearly cause an accident. This car has a drive by wire accelerator, which i believe is a fairly recent design change. We have another car with the same type of system which does not do this.

My vw passat 2007 stalls and/or does not start.it has stalled while driving on the freeway and then sometimes does not start at all.sometimes if tried after a while it may start.i'm told it is a high pressure fuel valve problem that is part of a recall but my vin does not qualify for that.

Air conditioning does not work. On foggy and rainy days air conditioning is necessary to obtain a good visibility while driving. Several 2006 and 2007 vw passat models have this problem.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. The contact stated that the windshield wiper fluid dispenser motor did not work. The failure occurred without warning. When the vehicle was started, the air bag warning indicator illuminated and flashed a picture of an inflated air bag with a "vehicle statue, air bag default" warning message. The failures were not diagnosed. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v078000 (air bags). The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that the windshield wiper motor was not included in a recall and the air bag failure was not recall related. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available....updated 11/15/17 updated 12/1/2017

My passenger wiper is no longer working. And the screw had stripped off. I live in florida where it rains all the time and is a safety concern especially with children in the car.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen passat. The contact stated while driving various speeds, the windshield wipers stopped working without any warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the windshield wiper motor and windshield linkages were defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000. The current mileage was 143,000. Updated 03/12/14*lj

The drivers side visor is secured above the windshield with a plastic part. This part has broken for the third time in this vehicle. There are also electrical cords running into the visorfor remote controls. When the plastic part securing the visor breaks, the visor drops down obscuring the driver's visibility and is left dangling by the wires.the visor remains a problem for the driver until a repair is made and the new visor costs about $600 installed because of the electrical wiring. I have had 2 newvisors previously put in this car. Considering the age of the vehicle it has low mileage and is not driven very often. This happened 3 times while driving on city streets. I am not computer savvy and cannot scan the repair documents.
