I own a 2005 volkswagen new jetta 2.5 which just had an incident of the airbag fault light going on. I took my vehicle to the dealership to be serviced and was informed that i needed to replace the seat belt buckle which was the reason for the light. My car is currently at 58,00 miles and my warranty was only extended to 50,000 miles, leaving me to shoulder the costs of a new seat belt buckle. The seatbelt's inner electrical circuits have burned out, but there are no other defects with the buckle. Because the circuit has burned out, the passenger airbag system is considered unstable and may not function properly during an accident. I feel that in no way should i be held accountable for what appears to be a manufacturer defect regardless of my vehicle's warranty status. After doing research on the internet, i have found that many volkswagen owners have had this safety issue but strangely volkswagen has not issued a recall on this defect. Although i cannot find any incidents of accident regarding this defect, i feel that a proactive approach and investigation is better than someone losing their life or loved one from this defect.
Front end crash into a stopped vehicle on county highway. Approximately 35 mph to 40 mph. None of the air bags deployed. Vehicle was totaled by insurance provider. Seat belt straining upon body, that took full force of stop no other absorption of impact energy. Vehicle kept energized even at the salvage storage area when keys were inserted no electrically safety relays disengaged the vehicle electrical system.
A few weeks ago, i went to start my car and all the lights were flashing and car didn't start. Jumped the battery, got the car running; but ever since my air bag light has stayed on and the driver's window is slow, the auto up/down feature not working, and if the driver door is open, i can't pop trunk or gas lid or roll down any of the windows. My car is no longer under warranty, so it's going to be very expensive to fix the multiple issues.
2005 vw.jetta - vin# [xxx]. The transmission shifts hard & down shift hard when the car has run for aperiod of time during travel. Also, the faulty air bag light comes on when the car is first started and may show intermittentlywhile driving. The catalytic converter & 02 sensor have been replaced but the codes still show when put on the machine. The ignition key gets stuck in the ignition.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. The contact was involved in a crash while traveling approximately 40 mph. The contact was knocked unconscious with the level of impact sustained during the crash. The entire air bag system failed to deploy. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 69,000.
Was in a front end collision going 45mph. Air bags never deployed
I was driving down the road at about 30 mph when my car stalled in the middle of the road and my driver side airbags had been deployed. My seatbelt restricted so hard, i could hardly breathe anymore. Nothing had hit my car and i had not gone over any potholes or bumps. Vw said that it is not their responsibility to repair my airbags or the damage done to my headliner and driver seat. I no longer have a functioning seatbelt either. This is a huge safety issue for america. Not only did the airbags deploy with no accident, i no longer feel safe driving in my own vehicle. What if i get into an accident tonight without the proper protection a car is guaranteed to have? if iwas killed or my kids were killed, would vw do something then?
Sometime in 2013, i received a notice from volkswagen that i needed to bring my 2005 jetta in to have the driver's seat wiring harness repaired due to a recall. I had no prior problems with the air bags or warning lights. I took the vehicle in and they did the work. Within a months, i got an error message in the display that there was a failure with the air bags.the airbag went off but in 2014 the light came bag again. I was toldit was not related to the wiring harness and i would have to payat a cost of about $700. I did not persue the issue i thought it was wiring issue but it is not. I did not have the airbag light on before they repaired the recall issue. The airbag light on the display is still there.
Front end collision on highway at approximate 45 mph, possibly slower. Airbags did not deploy. Damage primarily on driver side of vehicle. Flame ignited on front driver side of vehicle under the hood. Fire quickly spread causing total loss of vehicle. Unknown what caused fire.
I purchased my vw jetta new in 2005. Since then i have had a recurring issue that i believe can cause death to the drivers or passengers if they are in a n accident. I have had problems with the airbags (air bag light comes on) about 5 or 6 times.. The most recent one being the beginning of the month. The times the light has come on i have taken it to the dealership and it has been repaired.. But it seems to always be the same thing.. Some sort of damaged/shorting wires from what the dealer has told me. I feel that this is not an isolated issue and feel that for the safety of other owners of the same vehicle should be looked into/rectified by the manufacturer. I called today to vw's customer service.. And was brushed off.. And told that my vehicle was out of warranty.i have paid many times to get this issue fixed.. I was not trying to get warranty work done. I was trying to bring to light a re occurring issue that my car was having.
While driving and airbags deployed, cause windshield to break and lose control of car.
My daughter hit the back of a volvo suv with her 2005 vw jetta and not 1 air bag deployed leaving her in the hospital for a month's stay with major brain trauma and $100,000 + dollars in medical bills instead of a minor trip to the emergency room for air bag deployment.her entire front end is in the windshield. (we have photos).because she hit the volvo at the wrong angle, was the determined reasoning as to why the air bags didn't deploy.are you kidding me. Let's take a closer look into vw's advertisements for safety.my daughter was fooled by this nonsense and the rest of the country is being fooled also.i will pursue this for correction for as long as need be.let's hope the board gets on board with this unsafe issue! "airbags only deploy if you hit the front end at a certain angle? again< are you kidding me? i'm sure john.q.public will be very interested to see these pix online.
My trunk has never closed properly from the day i drove it off the lot.i took the vehicle back within a few weeks to be repaired.they did not have the part and it took a few more weeks.when they replaced it, it still continued not to close properly.i have the old part.i also recently had an air bag default sensor come on.i have contacted them multiple times regarding this and they continue to advise that they will have to charge me a diagnosis of 97.50 and i will have to pay for a rental if this is not covered under warranty.i have continuously had problems with this service department.i have tried to drop the vehicle off and they insist that they do not have room and will not be able to get to my vehicle for several days.these are very serious hazards that could be life threatening yet they fail to recognize the importance of their customer.
I was making a left hand turn and for no reason whatsoever the driver and passenger airbags deployed.following the deployment of the airbags, my hands were thrown off the steering wheel, causing me to lose control of the vehicle.the vehicle then proceded to go straight up onto a curb causing the entire passenger side of the vehicle to be damaged.the car was not drivable
Air bag light on in vehicle indicating an error with the system.manual says the bag may not deploy or deploy while driving.this is a major safety concern i think the car company should address.
Airbag warning light on dash has been on since last fall 2015.dealer says car will still pass inspection with light on.i'm wondering if there is a recall on this.

2005 volkswagen new jetta. Airbag warning light on.dealer diagnosed as needing a new wiring harness in passenger side seat.necessary to replace wiring harness to insure correct operation of airbags in car.
My daughter was in a serious accident, she hit a guard rail and lost control after spinning and hitting two more guard rails the never deployed. My daughter suffered a close head injury and facial lacerations. The car is a total lose, why didnt her air bags go off ? is so she may have not sustained such injuries.
When turning on the car, the air bag default button comes on. The interior lights do not come on.
My airbag light is on and it never goes off when i first start it it has a warning noise and says airbag fault then the light stays on the car also when driving it sometimes gets stuck in the rpmwindow between the 2 and the 3 and it wont want to get unstuck you have to take your foot completely off then place back on the pedal and then it jerks away
I was driving along yesterday and the warning light for "air bag" came on. I researched this and according to other consumer blogs, a lot of car owners have the same problem. I don't see a jetta recall - but there should be one!!!
Air bag problems on 2005 volkswagen new jetta. Defective connections under all seats which break from random movement of seating area resulting in a nonfunctional air bag for that passenger. This causes a default code and blocks any air bag from functioning. Only a matter of time before a crash results in injury or death because the air bag did not deploy and protect the passenger. Every visit to dealer to correct this problem costs the customer $300.00 per seat and fix works for about 1 month. Search the web and you will find 1000's of consumers with the same problem.
Started having electrical problems (random dashboard lights, doors, locks, windows wouldn't work, key fob battery died, etc) then i had to replace the battery. Continuedelectrical issues with new battery, passenger side window/door wouldn't operate or work at all. Needed master key fob to lock driver's side door but all other doors wouldn't lock with fob. Next, i am having issues with the car not starting, put another battery in it. From there random dashboard lights, dinging with drl and first few minutes of operating vehicle, and airbags lights are on. My mechanic sends me to a mechanic shop that specializes in vw. Mechanic replaces window manager and driver side door harness. Still find issues with airbags so i take my car to the dealership in st peters mo during a snow storm. Hand them all my paperwork, they go in and find that my car is being worked on and see that their are splices, connections butted, so they "fix" the airbags and send me on my way. However, i have a toddler in the backseat and she was able to open the doors while the vehicle was in motion, the windows stopped working, etc. Dealership cannot speak to other mechanic shop's work so they did the recalls needed (airbags) and replaced the harness, apparently again. I have all the receipts from the work, all the parts are in my trunk of my car, another appointment to see what the issue is. Car appears to be stuck in security mode but doesn't properly lock, not able to use child lock, and unable to protect vehicle safely with proper locking mechanism. I don't feel safe if there is an intruder or if my toddler were to try this stunt again, also concerned of the fuel issues i've been having. Replaced my gas cap in hopes i wouldn't see loss of fuel, and the car has a slight oil leak that no mechanic can seem to find. Unable to attach paperwork as the dealership has it at this time.
The airbag light has come on 4 times in my 2005 new jetta 2.5the seat belt sensors in front have been replaced once at dealership, this started when the car had only 22000 miles and kept coming on around every 10000 miles, they had to also replace the airbag(s) not sure which ones were replaced, the seatbealts don't wind back up properly sometimes as well.at around 25000 miles the brakes had to be replaced, we heard a clicking one day in the rear wheel well, we took it to the dealership they had replaced the brakes, rotors etc.i have documentation of these repairs.

Dt:the contact stated on 8-16-05 whiledriving on the highway thecar died. Then it lurched forward, stopped and lurchedforward again. This was the fifth time the car has been at the dealers. The first time the check engine light came on, andthey replaced a fuel injector. The second time the abs light, the air bag light, and the check engine light came on.they installed a full distributor rail. The third time the engine overheated, and the air conditionerwould not work . They replaced the battery and cooling fans.the fourth time the check engine light came on again, andthey replaced a valve. This last time the dealer gave him a loaner car. They have not diagnosed the problem yet. The dealer called on friday to tell him they would not pay for the loaner car.

Wire harness in both front doors are broken due to short wiresand the purge valve is also broken and the over head light is faultyand i feel like the 2005 -2006 volkswagen jetta 2.5 should be recalled due to faulty wiring in the vehicle and volkswagen is aware of the problem but will not resolve the issue and i think they should at least fix the problem for the consumer.i hope someone investigate this issue asap!!!!
2005 volkswagen jetta bucks and shakes while driving. Consumer states that the vehicle sounds like it just wants to shut off and not run. While vehicle was in the shop the loaner got hit and dealer would not return her car until payment was made.the consumer stated the first time the problem happened, she had come to a full stop. When she went to accelerate, the vehicle almost stalled, starting bucking and was sluggish. Immediately afterwards, the engine light illuminated.the dealer stated the reset a component, however 1 month later the problem re-surfaced. The consumer was told the problem was several different things, but each time the components were replaced, the problem would come back.
Wiring harness between the body and the doors flexes during opening and closing of the door. The wire coating becomes brittle with age and cracks causing stress points in the wire leading to breakage of 1 or more wires in the harness leading to inoperable controls and electronics in the door, possible electrical short, and potential fire hazard. This failure tends to occur after a couple years of usage. This particular vehicle failed at 65,000 miles. Usually the driver's door fails first as it is used most frequently.this equipment includes but may not be limited to window controls, door locks, door open sensor, air bag system crash sensor, trunk release switch, fuel door release switch, door mirror adjustment, mirror turn signal indicator, mirror heating element. Wiring harness must be replaced which costs approximately $150-$200. Harness should be redesigned with longer wires to avoid stretching of the wire and wire coating material changed to avoid brittleness with age and work hardening.
The wiring harness of the driver's door failed, which prevents the left turn signal, windows, door locks and gas fill door from functioning. The car becomes unsafe since the left signal will not work and the window will not operate so the driver can do a manual signal. Vw has issued a service bulletin on the issue stating that the original wiring harness is too short and breaks causing this issue, but they refuse to recall the car and fix the problem. A class action lawsuit has been filed on this issue, and is close to settlement, but will only cover cars less than 8.5 years old. Most of the cars effected by this issue, 2005 and 2006 model years, are older than 8.5 years so vw will not fix them.the following youtube video demonstrates all of these issues, please view it for full details: www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1eq5xl-zpmthe following web site has information on the class action law suit: http://www.wiringharnesssettlement.com/
Left turn signal, drivers door/all remote window switches, trunk/fuel door release, drivers door lock key fob locking of drivers door/drivers door internal lock are all inoperative. Occasionally, the cabin interior light remains on with a drivers "door open" indication on the instrument cluster even though the drivers door is closed and secure (but unable to be locked from the drivers door lock switch in the passenger cabin).the primary safety issue related to this problem is that the left turn signal displays on instrument cluster, but does not activate on the rear turn signal light and drivers window (along with all other windows remotely controlled on drivers door) are inoperative if needed to make a hand turn signal or egress from the vehicle in an accident (or submerged under water for an egress).dealer and manufacture both refused to cover the replacement cost of the faulty part. I have performed every manufacture required service required (all documented) since purchasing this vehicle in the interest of safety and reliability. It had very low mileage on my purchase in early 2007.per vw technical service bulletin, group 97: 09-01 (201-7600), february 26, 2009, states that the drivers door wiring harness was manufactured 80 mm too short. This results in putting strain on the numerous wires in this harness near the door boot and connector plug causing wires to break and/or electrically short. My vehicle was affected by the vin range of this manufactures service bulletin. The new replacement drivers door electrical harness are now 80 mm longer than the originally manufactured (installed) faulty part that the manufacture is unwilling to replace at their cost (parts or labor).i will pay for my repair personally, but believe that the safety aspect of this faulty part could compromise the safety of the driver and occupants in addition to other motorist.
Dt:the contact stated the vehicle caught on fire. The contact'sson was driving and hefeltthatthe vehicle was not getting any fuel.he pressed the gas pedal and then it stalled.he depressed the gas pedal while trying to restart it, and it started smoking.he got out of the vehicle and lifted the hood and it burst into flames.by the time the fire department arrived the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames.the vehicle was totaled, according to the auto body shop the only thing that remained were the head lights.there has been no investigation as to where the fire started.she contacted volkswagen, and they told her there was a recall for a faulty fuel clamp.but she never received arecall letter.there was a police report5021483 was taken at the scene.
For the past year i have taken my car to vw shops and highly rated top vw shops in la . My car was dying if i didn't drive it ever day. I had my car in the shop for over a month and after doing electrical checks, giving me an alternator, replacing countless batteries the problem is still to this day unsolved.in the past 6 months things have become worse and can lead to an accident if not fixed. My car has been decelerating while i am driving on the road, it happens at all different speeds and is random. The car will lock up so that i can not make it pick up speed when it starts decelerating and then out of no where it will work again but instead of letting me gradually increase the speed it blasts off in an uncontrollable manner. This is very dangerous and i have tried to get this fixed and diagnosed but no one not even vw has any idea what is happening because every time i take it to the shop it somehow doesn'thappen. Now in the past week my car is taking it to the next level with the deceleration and acceleration but on top of that now it is just dying while i am driving it after doing the jerky thing. I literally was driving on the hwy and it jerked a couple of times and then the car just died while driving and the brakes and steering wheel locked up. I was able to get to the shoulder but it was absolutely terrifying and i could have been killed! the battery light came on and i turned off the car. When i tried to turn it back on it started up like nothing happened. I then tried to drive to safety but it would die over and over again.i just found out about this site and i decided to read some reports. Turns out there are 100s of other cases just like mine. Why then does vw act like they have no idea whats wrong with my car. Apparently the only way you can get them to do something about it is to have a tragedy! something needs to be done. Please help!!!!
I purchased this car from a dealership on 10-8-2012 up in the washington, d.c. Area and drove it back home to my house in sc. Everything was fine on the way home. The very next day on my way into work the car hesitated when it was supposed to shift from 3rd gear to 4th gear and then suddenly downshifted all the way back to 1st gear which made the car de-accelerate from 35-40mph to 10mph within 40 feet or so. The engine revved to 6000 plus rpms which scared me but not as much as the big truck that was towing a trailer that had to skid off the road and go around me to avoid an accident. This is now a daily occurrence. I carry my 16 month old daughter around in this car and i'm scared to death that someone is going to smash into the back of us. I've started pulling off the road and letting cars go to avoid accidents. Please help!
On certain passenger, wagon, and convertible vehicles equipped with or without cruise control, a brake light switch may malfunction if it was installed incorrectly. When turning on the car, the air bag default button comes on. The interior lights do not come on. While idle car rumbles and shakes, while accelerating or decelerating car shakes (front end). My fueling system is terrible it seems as if gas sometimes doesn't get to my car it stales very often while driving or braking and accelerating again. Terrible electrical problems. Trunk will not open front light and brake lights work when they want to. When the heater is on it makes loud noise and tick even with the a/c on it does the same thing. While turning it stales and then take off really fast. While idle car rumbles and shakes, while accelerating or decelerating car shakes (front end). My alarm on my 2005 jetta tdi is malfunctioning. I have had several other electrical problems, including faulty controls in the steering colum, and faulty components in the esp.i have been told that to repair the alarm, the radio must be replaced, however the radio is on 'backorder', has been for six weeks, and i do not as of today, know when i will have this repaired.these problems, along with the extended delay in repairing the radio have caused me to consider the possibility of a more significant problem with the vehicle itself and i am concerned.
2005 jetta caught on fire while driving.the dealer informed the consumer, that a lot of vehicles were having a lot of electrical problems with the taillights.
Hi, so my 2005.5 2.5l volkswagen jetta started making noises upon acceleration and the engine would shift quite heavily during idling. The check engine light went on and i took the car to dealership. Apparently, there is an issue with the timing chains of the engine. Never missed a maintenance, after only 68,000 miles it doesn't seem okay that timing chains are already affected. After looking at a few forums online, it seems that this is a very common problem for volkswagen jettas from that time. Please investigate! thank you.
2005.5 jetta--vehicle has rough shifting between 2nd and 3rd gears.as well as downshifting.while driving on a mountainside, going 65 mph, the car suddenly downshifted to 3rd gear and would not accelerate.i had to pull over on the side of a mountain, with cars flying by me.the car would not shift gears until turned off and on again.this is now happening during regular acceleration at low speeds.this is a huge safety concern, as i could have been rear ended by another vehicle due to loss of power/speed.
The car has 83k miles, since approx 1 year ago (73k miles) the lcd multifuction display is getting dimmer and dimmer up to the point that sometimes is almost unreadable and the problem occur only when the car is exposed to high temperatures. (in the morning the lcd brightness is normal). I did some research in the internet and found other people have the same condition. The lcd multifunction display shows the odometer data, the transmission gear position and also shows safety warnings related to air bags malfunction and front and rear doors not properly closed. I was advised by a dealer service advisor to contact vw customer service because the repair of this defect is very expensive and according to him may be caused by defective parts. I was told by vw customer service that there is nothing they can do because is not recognized as a manufacturer defect. I understand that it is illegal for a car owner to alter the odometer during the lifetime of the car, if that is the case should be illegal a for a car manufacturer to sell a car that after six years you are unable to read the odometer information.
Drivers side windows and door locks won't work. Warning indicator saying door/s are open and warning beep will not stop until key removed from ignition. Continues to do this even while driving will all doors properly closed and seat belts fastened. Online research shows there is a known defect in the door wiring harness, they were manufactured too short and eventually break.
When turning on the car, the air bag default button comes on. The interior lights do not come on.
Door locks intermittently fail to lock or unlock, either by the key fob button or door panel lock/unlock switch. I believe this is a safety issue as it may impede access to the vehicle in the event of an accident.

Tl * the contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta.the contact stated that the electric power controls on the driver's side door failed.the window, lighting, fuel door latch, trunk latch, and side mirror failed to function as designed due to the failure.the manufacturer was notified of the defect, but the vehicle was not taken to the dealer.the approximate failure mileage was 122,000.
Engine continually would not start with numerous documented car electrical the problem is a volkswagen faulty electrical design caused my wiring to burn up as a result when they placedthe wiring fuse box on top of the battery causing both heat and chemical corrosion stress on the vehicles's electrical systems.currently, no pun intended, the vehicle is unsafe to repair or drivewhat should i do? i cannot safely repair the car and sell it to an unsuspecting would-be ownernor does the local vw want to help me outthanks
Switches in the driver's door have become gradually (and intermittently) increasingly inoperable.door lock/unlock, windows up/down, window lock, side-view mirror adjustment, and trunk release all have stopped working either entirely or intermittently.the major safety related issues are: 1. Non-functional switches are a distraction while driving - can't close window at tool booth, etc.2. The inability to adjust side-view mirrors.3. The inability to lock rear windows combined with having small children riding in the back seat.4. The inability to unlock rear doors (without using the keyless remote - one of which has also stopped working) to get to the kids in the back is a challenge and potentially hazardous.5. The door switch that indicates to the on-board computer when the door is open or closed also is not functional, causing nighttime lighting issues when parked and opening door.
I went to press the button on the remote to unlock the. Car, but all doors unlocked except the driver side door. I manually had to unlock car door. When i was inside i shut the door but the car kept indicating that it was opened. The window would not roll down, side mirror cannot be adjusted, cannot open trunk or pop the gas tank. Doors are sup post to auto lock at a certain speed which they no longer lock while driving. The switches on every other door are still operating properly except for speed locks. It is a safety issue because children may attempt to open car door while it is in motion. I searched online for same vehicles that have the same issue. There are several that indicate what the issue is, the wires are to short for the doors to open and close which pulls on them and will cause the connection to break leaving the door powerless.
The automatic door lock stopped working for passenger door behind driver.there is not way to manually lock.
When driving on the interstate at 65 mph my car suddenly lost all its power and was i could not go over 25 mph. Wewere very lucky to not get hit from behind. When this happened the traction control light, engine/exhaust light, esr light, esp light all came on. It also stalls out when sitting at an intersection. Vw unable to fix as of yet, been in for repairs 3 times already for the same thing. Very dangerous problem, car very unreliable!!
There are multiple problems with electrical system on this vehicle specifically the rear brake lights, directional signals, remote entry to vehicle, making it unsafe at to drive?tried to make an appointment with local dealer and they advise they are booked out for 12 days - not sympathetic to the fact that these problems are safety related and need to be corrected immediately?either dealership has more problems with vehicles than they can handle or they are under staffed?would not recommend this product line due to poor service and unwillingness to address safety concerns promptly!

The fuse for the rear window defroster melted into the fuse box.i called vw and they informed me that when they manufactured the vehicle they placed a 25 amp fuse in the fuse box and it should be changed to a 30 amp.they informed me that i can do this myself since there was a technical service bulletin placed on this.i told them there was no way that i can get the fuse out since it is melted into the fuse box, and they informed me that i would have to pay to have the fuse box replaced.i do not understand how i am responsible for something that i never did.i cannot use my rear window defroster, heated seats and my heated windshield washers don't even work.i have went the rounds with volkswagen and they stick to telling me that i am responsible for the costs in replacing the fuse box.its like they are telling me that i built the car and i placed thewrong fuse.if i did build the car and place the wrong fuse in the car i would pay for the damages associated with this, but i did not build it vw built it and i feel they need to take responsibility for placing the wrong fuse in the fuse box.
The transmission is terribly made. There is also an issue with the fuel injection that does not allow the car to receive the correct fuel as well as the gas tank. The car jerks because of the gas tank and the codes read ad if the cap needs to be replaced but the whole gas tank needs to be replaced.
My car while parked and the engine going will stop. Also when i'm on the freeway the epc light will turn on and feel like i have a loss of power and it feels like it is accelerating. My mechanic has no idea what is going on with my car.
While idle car rumblesand shakes, while accelerating or decelerating car shakes (front end). My fueling system is terrible it seems as if gas sometimes doesn't get to my car it stales very often while driving or braking and accelerating again. Terrible electrical problems. Trunk will not open front light and brake lights work when they wantto. When the heater is on it makes loud noise and tick even with the a/c on it does the same thing. While turning it stales and then take off really fast.
Fuse box on the top of the battery caught fire and melted the fusible link from the alternator to the battery connect. Going at 40 miles per hour and car shuts off, no brakes no power all electrical systems off dash lit up like christmas tree. Thank god for the ditch and that we weren't on interstate otherwise someone could have been killed or injured such as my pregnant wife.
Call stalls out.. My vw2005.5jetta while drive turns off with no warning signs.. Very dangerous.. On the highways. Been to gunther vw coconut creek fl for 2 times for the same problem.. The first time the car was brought in aug 30. 2006 for the car stalling .. Service advisor dean took in it.. My car was ready sept 1 2006 i brought thecar home and it stalled. So i brought the car back in for service they seem not to believe me until they drove it and it cut off on them while driving now its in the shop and no one has any idea what's going on..
Turn signal switch malfunction and fire...right turn signal activated without switch being activated. After about 5-10 minutes in this condition, smoke came out of steering column.fire/marking could be seen in the switch area.eventually the turn signal went out and the smoke/fire stoppped.vw service replaced the switch and wire harnes.the plactic on the switch and harnes was melted and charred.
Driver's side rear door wiring harness has broken, resulting in no operation of power window or door lock. Door will not lock. Service technician has advised replacement of the wiring harness.
Secondary air injection system -ongoing issue.. No reading for smog check
I have had nothing but issues with my 2005 jetta since purchasing it a little over a year ago. The first issue was loss of power while driving, causing me to almost be struck by other vehicles while turning at intersections. Cause: the fuse box ontop of battery melted, along with the fuses and ground wire. Then the coolant resevoir had to be replaced. Due to the fans not turning on because of those fuses melting. Then, then radiator. Then the break pump, exaust manifold gasket blew. The thing recently wasni had no break lights. Went to change bulbs. Kept breaking the fuses. Then stuck in park. Saw a recall listed for faulty break switch.called vw they stated my recal had already been serviced. So sorry it was up to me to repair the issue. Told them of every other issue. They said there was nothing they could do for me. Basically i bought a very unrealiable, unsafe, piece of garbage. That i assumed was completely opposite for myself snd my two small children to be dependant upon getting us safely place tonplace.
The windows and doors failed to unlock, the windows would not roll up or down, and the door ajar indicator would not turn off with the door securely shut. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed said the failure was caused by the drivers door wiring harness. The dealer replaced the driver door wiring harness. This occurred at 80,000 miles. Failure occurred again at 93,330 miles, and repaired by a different auto mechanic.
Windows, door locks, trunk and fuel door release and airbags non-functioning due to wiring harness located in drivers door. Found out there is issue concerning the length of the harness that causes wires to break over time.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. The contact stated that the wiring that extended from the alternator to the power distribution center burned, causing the battery's inability to hold a charge and the engine's inability to start successfully. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop where the wires were replaced. Also, the gauges on the instrument cluster failed; while driving, the contact noticed that the gauges were moving around and not stay steady. The mechanic also replaced the instrument cluster and reprogrammed the computer. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
After driving for 40 minutes in stop and go traffic, i was sitting at a traffic light and the car shut off, the battery indicator light flashed for a few seconds and went out.after about 2 minutes, the car started without any problems. I took the car to the dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong with the battery.
We were driving our new 2005.5 jetta 5 spd at an intersection the vehicle stalled as a result of the clutch being let out to quickly. I tried to start the vehicle immediately without success. I pulled the brake up; pushed the clutch pedal completely in and put the stick shift into neutral. Still was unable to start the vehicle.an eighteen wheeler just missed us by inches. Finally got the car started made our way home. At home we duplicates what happened and determined we needed to turn the key completely to the off position, then we were able to successfully restart the engine. We drive mostly manual transmissions and cannot think of any time we have had to turn the key completely to the off position to get our vehicles started. We called and talked with the service department and were told that this was a new feature vw instituted this year to keep drivers from trying to restart an engine that may already be running and possibly ruining the starter. Ruining the starter was the least of our problems. We are concerned the documentation that outlines that the driver must return the key to the 0ff position every time to restarted the engine is buried on pg 92 of booklet 3.1 in section ignition lock position of the key. This is clearly not something a driver would normally look for or expect from the vehicle they are driving. I would like to recommend this feature be changed so that if a driver stalls their vehicle, especially in a compromising situation, they would be able to restart the vehicle with the key being anywhere in the on position. In addition, until this could be accomplished i would recommend this information be included in the jetta quick reference guide. This is a more reasonable place the driver may look instead of being buried deep inside the drivers manual. I also recommend this be information the dealership is required to make sure the driver knows before leaving their lot. This is definitely something of a possible safety issue.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta.the contact stated that the key would not go into the ignition at all.she has three sets of keys and none of them will enter the ignition.she attempted to notify the manufacturer, but the office is closed.the failure and current mileages were 38,000.
I was stopped at light and hit the accelerate to find my car had no power and several warning lights came on at the same time including esp, and traction, as well as the exhaust light.there was also a strong odor of something burning in the car.the car would not go over 10 miles per hour and had to be towed to the nearest vw dealership the power issues was fixed the was not the power issue was the wiring harness which was replaced.

The contact owned a 2005 volkswagen jetta. The contact stated that the vehicle suddenly caught fire, while idled in a drive thru line at a fast food restaurant. The fire started under the hood. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was completely destroyed and towed to a junk yard. The contact was unsure if a police report or fire report were filed. The dealer mike haggerty volkswagen (8920 s cicero ave, oak lawn, il 60453 (708) 425-8989) told the contact to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle and referred the contact to call the dealer. The failure mileage was unknown.

Check engine light came on in the morning. Noticed rough idle and poor acceleration on my morning commute. Check engine light was on for misfires on cylinders 2 - 5. Took the car into the dealership that evening. Dealership performed $900 of repairs on the car and then declared that the timing chain had stretched, causing the misfires). This issue occurred suddenly and would have been very dangerous had it occurred on a highway, instead of surface streets. This appears to be a common issue with 2005/2006 jettas (documented at: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5457990-class-action-against-vw-for-timing-chain-problem as well as many other forums). I strongly believe that this should be recalled. Volkswagen customer care offered no assistance since the vehicle is 16,000 miles out of warranty. A timing chain failing at 76,000 miles is completely unacceptable and is not listed with a service interval per the owners manual (later added at 105k miles on newer cars). Vehicle failed just under 76,000 miles.
Driving on interstate vehicle suddenly lost all power just like ignition turned off.almost was rear ended due to sudden slowing down.had to pull over to left lane on very busy interstate because i was in carpool lane.had limited shoulder area to stop.no power steering or brakes.once stopped tried to start engine.it would turn over but not start.continued attempts caused engine pressure warning.had to be towed from busy interstate left lane.now the car has failed like this while on the road 3 times.there is no warning or indication of failure. Car just dies.all three incidents where while driving down the road. 2 were on hills near stop sign and i had to roll vehicle back around other cars to safe place.
I am reporting a safety concern for volkswagen jetta 2005.5. My jetta recently started having brake problems due to the master brake cylinder on 8/4/2017i had to force my car off the road from hitting multiple vehicles due to the master brake cylinder failing. Volkswagen is veryaware of this issue i have done research in found complaints as well as recalls but was told they couldn't help me the fuel linehas also failed after replacing it causing a gas smell through out thevehicle when starting after pumping gas. I recently started having problems with the valve body damaged this is a big safety concern for my self in others who ownthe same vehicle the valve body damagedcauses the car to slip in heavy traffic leading up to a car accident. I have done research and volkswagen is aware of this issue with complaints they didadd extended warranty to end 100,000 miles. Back in 2005 leading up to 2014 there are multiple 2005.5 jettas around nashville with the same issues. But volkswagen will not help fix the problem of the safety of therecustomers
Please investigate! thank you.
The car would buck and buck thengo into gear , then it would buck get stuck in 3rd or 4th gear i would have to turn the car offlet it sit thenturn it back on . The prnds panel would all light upand stay onand sometimes go off if the car sat for like 2-3 days but the light would stay onand the car would do the same thing . The transmission went outthemechanic stated the 3rd or 4th gear was stripped and that it will cost me anywhere from 4k to7k to get it fixed.
At roughly 7500 miles my check engine light came on. Brought it to dealership to check out. Found out that the timing chain had jumped, or stretched, resulting in poor idle and a $2700 estimate to repair. Looked if other people had this issue. Timing chain should last 2-3 times longer. Since i'm out of warranty period i am out of luck. Timing chain should last the lifetime of the engine not to fail around 75000 and i checked the other complaint and it looked like alot of other 05 to 06 owners has the same issue .

Car has thrown a cel of p0016.timing chain tensioner is shot and needs to be replaced along with chains, guides, and possible valves. This is a problem with 2005.5 and 2006 jetta 2.5 engines.
Car began to stutter and lose power while on i95 doing highway speed. Proceeded to do it multiple times. Once i got off the highway it lost power and shut down completely. I let the car sit for an hour and it started back up working fine. Happened again 3 hours later. Happened the entire week in florida on vacation. Once the car got back into cooler weather problem went away until two days ago when it was about 70 degrees out. Happened on i97 doing 60 mph. I managed to get off the highway once again to have my car die in the middle of route 2. It did not do it for my mechanic who had it for 2 weeks. Other vw owners say this is a common problem with no known fix. This must be looked into, someone could be killed!
2005.5 new jetta tdi diesel.cam shaft defect. Worn lobes and cylinder head damage. Replaced timing belt as well.
My 2005 vw jetta gli stalled suddenly while i was driving @ 35-mph.after pulling over and opening the hood to assess damage, i turned the ignition key but all i heard was the starter being engaged.once the car was towed to an independent repair shop, the technician informed me the timing belt broke/snapped.i was skeptical because my owner's manual says timing belts should be replaced at 110,000 miles according to vw's recommended maintenance schedule.during repairs, the technician said that my valves were bent because the 1.8t is an interference engine which means that cams, rockers and lifters must be removed in order for the cylinder head to be sent to a machine shop for additional repairs.total costs = $3,865.66.there was a class action lawsuit against vw timing belts but i was denied reimbursement by the administer/custodian claims were no longer accepted after 2009.i spoke with [xxx] at vw customer service 1-800-822-8987 who said there are no timing belt recalls for my vehicle.please investigate this concern and see other identical complaints at http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/volkswagen/t33rhdpdvbrpo8d2p/p3 for more information.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Vehicle had a sudden loss of power (misfiring very badly) and would not maintain speed.the service engine light never came on, and there were no trouble codes stored.vehicle was brought into vw dealership for diagnosis and they confirmed the camshaft was completely worn and "several lifters had caved in."internet searches confirm this model vehicle (tdi with a brm engine) has a known history of camshaft failure.aside from the cost of replacement ($2900 at the dealer), this could have caused a potentially life threatening crash.
Check engine light came on. Took car to have checked at advance auto. Technician found fault failure cam shaft positioning sensor. Car taken to vw dealership, told it was the timing belt, estimate repair $2700 notguarantee that would fix the problem. Total engine replacement$6400.timing belt should not fail on a car with 109k miles, car has been keep on routine maintenance since purchased 5 years ago.
Over the past 3 weeks the check engine light has cycled on/off. Took the vehicle into the dealership today and they concluded that my timing chain needs to be replaced at a cost of $3700(parts&labor). I have had the car for 9 years and have approx 65000 miles on it. I have had oil changes every 5000 miles as well as all recommend factory maintenance. Since my car is no longer under warranty and volkswagen of america states that the timing chain should be replaced every 10 years/100,000 miles they refused to help with covering any cost of the repairs. Upon searching the internet it has become clear that this is a known issue with the 05/06 volkswagen engines yet they refuse to admit it.timing chains should not be failing at 65000 miles and volkswagen of america needs to take responsibility and do right by their customers.
I tried to pull across a busy intersection and the engine died. It was bucking and kept stalling out when i tried to move the car across to get out of on coming traffic.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. While driving approximately 40 mph, an abnormal sound emitted from the engine compartment and the vehicle shut off as the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the timing chain and timing chain tensioner needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. Ma 08/06/15updated 8/14/15

Engine shuts off while driving.when pushing the accelerator, engine will sporadically shut off and the car will need to be stopped and restarted.no error codes come from the computer and the problem is not replicable at the dealership or at auto shops.the vehicle is either stationary or in motion, the deciding factor is the accelerator being pushed.
Engine misfires while driving or accelerating or slowing.then vehicle vibrates and stalls. Intermittent and without warning lights on dash.vw garage could not solve this problem april 11, 2019 and may 7 to 11,2019.vehicle had recall on coils approximately 2011 and coils were replaced but one failed few months later and manufacturer replaced it. The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. While driving 25 mph, the engine stalled and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence and then towed to wheeler auto parts (located at 8391 e monroe rd, wheeler, mi 48662; (989) 842-3158) where it was diagnosed that the timing belt and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the engine stalled in the shop's parking lot and the check engine indicator illuminated. In addition, the contact noticed a strong fuel odor coming the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (lafontaine volkswagen located at 2200 s telegraph rd, dearborn, mi 48124; (313) 996-6000) where it was diagnosed that the timing belt and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed for the fuel odor. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted at 800-822-8987 and stated that they would not be responsible for repairing the vehicle. Case number: 170791374 was provided. The failure mileage was 170,000.
The contact owned a 2005 volkswagen jetta. While driving 25 mph, the accelerator pedal failed to respond. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact veered off to the shoulder of the road and turned off the vehicle. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle approximately four times, but noticed flames coming from the hood of the vehicle. The contact received minor burns to the right arm that did not require medical attention. The fire department was contacted and extinguished the fire. A police and a fire report were filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was determined to be a total loss. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 139,000.
2005.5 vw jetta, 2.5l 5 cyl engine. Car has been maintained according to manufacturer guidelines. Vehicle was operating normally when check engine light came on. Check engine light was lit steady, not flashing. Started to lose power and was difficult to maintain speed. Pulled off road and idle was very rough. Turned car off and back on and idle was worse and check engine light still lit and not flashing. Vehicle started to make grinding noise from driver's side of the engine compartment. Was difficult to move vehicle under its own power and had car towed to repair shop. Repair shop found trouble code p1340 and after more diagnostic that timing was incorrect. Cam timing was very far off and stretched timing chain suspected. Compression test revealed bent valves as well. Local indy mechanic and local vw dealer have both seen this issue several times with 2005.5 and 2006 model jetta and rabbit vehicles with the 2.5l engine, and several other similar failures are outlined in several places online. The failure of the timing chain was very sudden and could have caused an accident.
Coilpack failure causes the car to decelerate and sputter, especially when it starts to rain. Volkswagen is aware of the problem since 2001. The internet is full of comments on this defect yet the problem continues.
At roughly 6500 miles my check engine light came on.brought it to dealership to check out.found out that the timing chain had jumped, or stretched, resulting in poor idle and a $2700 estimate to repair.looked if other people had this issue.timing chain should last 2-3 times longer.since i'm out of warranty period i am out of luck.vw offered $1500 credit towards a new vw. This is not acpetable. My last jetta lasted 180000 miles before any issues.if more people have this issue, then there should be a recall and it should be covered by the company.be wary of vw's.
Camshaft failure causing all associated/connecting parts to also fail. Never deviated from specifiedmanufactures required oil (505.01).this appears to be a design problem, that is common on all these diesel engines (brm), of which the manufacture will not correct and the owner is required to correct at their own expense at a cost of $2000 plus.
I bought a 2005 jetta tdi, brand new.when it had less than 2000 miles on it, it died without warning.i was luckily able to coast out of traffic, and after 20 minutes it finally restarted.then 6 weeks later, with less than 4500 miles on it, it died without warning while i was going 70 mph on an interstate freeway.i had my 3 kids in the car.again, i was fortunate enough to be able to coast out of traffic and onto a narrow shoulder.i called for roadside assistance, but again, after 20 minutes i was finally able to restart it.i could have been killed with my children since we trapped between a guardrail and the first lane.it was terrifying.the only indication that something was wrong was that after it died quietly, a light came on that said "emissions workshop."the dealer says it's running to specifications.that doesn't explain why a brand new car has quit twice without warning and failed to restart for 20 minutes each time.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. The contact stated that a noise could be heard from the engine while decelerating from any speed. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told the vehicle needed a new timing chain. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The failure and current mileages were 79,000. The vin was unavailable.
A few days after we purchased our new 2005 jetta we noticed that after the car had been sitting for 6 hours or more we were hearing a very loud noise at start up.this happens every time we start the car from cold, becoming more loud the colder it is - the noise is very loud and most certainly not normal for a brand new car.it appears the noise is coming from the engine area.we have taken the car into the dealer and after looking at it, they said that this was normal and really did not explain as to what is making the noise.they did state that other jetta's made the same noise.again, i find this very concerning for a new car.
Driving my daughter home from school, hot coolant started spewing into where her feet rest on the passenger side.
Oil pan was cracked do to contact with speed bump. Engine light did not come on until engine failed due to lack of lubrication.when obtaining a replacement oil pan from manufacturer a redesigned oil pan was used as a replacement.instead of cast aluminum it was steel.if this pan was used as the original pan the incident would have never occurred.after investigating found out that steel pan is used in german built jetta's but us made use cast product.vw refused to warranty engine with only 21,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. The contact was driving 15 mph when the vehicle abnormally lunged forward. They have not diagnosed the problem yet. The dealer called on friday to tell him they would not pay for the loaner car.
Vw jetta 2.5l 2005 out of the blue check engine light came on at 81,000 miles. Random misfire and vacuum leak codes. Turn out to be timing chain stretched causing the problem cost $2000 to fix.

The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, he noticed that the check engine light was illuminated and flashing. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where they advised him that the crank shaft sensor failed and the vehicle was misfiring. The vehicle was taken to another mechanic where they advised the contact that the timing chain sprockets had been shaved down, which caused the failure. The vehicle was repaired for the timing chain sprockets as well as other components. The manufacturer was contacted who offered no assistance because the vehicle was not taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The failure mileage was approximately 60,005. The vin was unavailable.
As emphasis by other owners of this car (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5457990-class-action-against-vw-for-timing-chain-problem), volkswagen designed a flawed system which allows the timing chain to fail pre-maturely. In fact, due to the design of this motor, a timing chain failure will directly and immediately lead to other catastrophic issues such as a bent valve in my situation. Upon replacement of the motor, i had the exact same issue happen less than 1 month later (11/16/11).
I own a 2005 vw jetta tdi. At approx. 60,000 miles the check engine light came on and i have replaced the same flap motor 3 times and it has failed again. I have also changed the thermostat, cooling kit, sensor, and it comes back as a flap motor failure.has vw had a problem with intake flap motors on the turbo diesel motors?.vw will not do anything to help with this situation.
Dealership: lindsay volkswagen of dullesmanufacturer: volkswageni have never heard from vw customer care since my initial complaint, filed 10.27.05 at 9:12 p.m., reference number 804030825.i called in nov 05' to check on the status and a customer service rep told me i should file again (i have a reference number for that, too).i've yet to hear from them to this day.since i bought my vw jetta tdi 05' in march 05, i have documented how the vw dealership replaced the transmission module component, dealt with occurring problems with the asr light and a separate glow plug light situation, plus upper front strut mounts replacements.each incident has equally colorful stories too detailed for your database character limitations.

I have a 2005 vw 2.5 jetta. My first incident was at 32,000 miles when the back brakes went out. Following that, my brake lights became faulty. After replacing my brake lights, they went out again. I took it to the dealer who charged me $38 to change them again. They went out once again before the dealer decided to inform me there was a defect which was covered under warranty. The next problem was when i was driving on the freeway when my car lost power and the check engine light came on. I was towed to the dealer who told me my spark plugs were wet from the rain. They suggested the 40k mile maintenance at $500 to fix the problem. I agreed to do this only to have the light come on after i left the dealer. This happened about 4 more times until the dealer finally revealed they are aware of a problem with the coils. They were dying electronically one by one and they had to order 5 new updated coils from michigan for my specific vin. 6 months later the check engine light came on again at 50 miles. Now i am being told the a/c fan motor has died. There is no sensor for this so the fan motor has to be replaced at $780.00. I was also informed that the larger fan is working, but it is weak and might need replaced as well. The car jerks and runs very rough. My car also makes a loud noise when i start it. When i am sitting at a stop sign or red light the whole car shakes. This does not seem right for a car that has 56k miles currently.
2005 jetta somewhere under hood spontaneously burst into flames with car parked in a driveway and engine turned off after driving for approximately 20 minutes.fire consumed entire engine, electrical system, and resulted in a total loss according to insurance adjuster.there were no occupants in the vehicle when the fire started.city of plantation (fl) police and fire departments responded and were able to extinguish fire after 15 minutes.

I have encountered several issues the most alarming currently is a smell of burning oil upon heavy acceleration which hasn't been located by the dealer even though the car has been in the shop twice since i purchased the vehicle in may of 05.
Shortly after i bought car i noticed a noise coming from (sounded like) engine. I also noticed car not changing gears smoothly. Felt as if it was having a hard time shifting especially up hill, i took the car in and was told this is just how a vw shifts and sounds. I told them i did not notice it when i initially owned the car. They ran a diagnostic since now the engine light is on the windshield wipers come on at their own will, the clock looses time constantly, and the noise has got a lot worse and so has the gear shifting. The diagnostic they say showed the dual fans are both burned out. If they are burned out why are they still making a loud noise several seconds after i turn the car off? they have also told me no transmission problem exists but another dealer told me they cannot know that because the diagnostic will not pick up on a bad transmission only a totally failed one. Which the car will be out of warranty then. These cars have obvious transmission problems and electronic problems that are being ignored. After having all this problem i looked on internet and was astonished at the number of people with all the same problems as me. Slow and hard shifts, wipers, car acting as if it is stalling, clock losing time, battery going bad too quick. Brakes constantly bad. This car is just a lemon. Why will the government not do a total recall. There is tooooooo much wrong with tooooo many of them.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. The cam, rockers, and theduel mass fly wheel in his engine failed.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and he was advised that he needed to replace various components in the engine at an expense of $6500.00.the volkswagen manufacturer was notified, andhe was advised that because his warranty expired he was ineligible for a free remedy. The failure mileage was 114,000. The vehicle identification number was unavailable.
Any time the vehicle is not operated for a few hours or longer, the engine makes a very loud grinding noise upon starting.the noise lasts less than 30 seconds, then a high-pitched noise follows before both noises cease.i have been experiencing these noises since i purchased the vehicle.i took this vehicle to the dealership for repairs due to this noise, and was informed that there was nothing they could do and that all new vehicles on the lot were making the same noise.the salesman suggested that the grinding noise was the catalytic converters starting up and the high-pitched noise that followed was the fuel pump.still, it does not sound normal, and the noise does not occur if the vehicle has only been resting for a matter of minutes.i find it difficult to believe that a normal function of the vehicle would make such a noise, and then only make it on certain occasions.
We have been experiencing an issue with our 2005 jetta since purchase.whenever we start the car from cold we experience a very loud noise that lasts for about 20 seconds.we have taken the car in to the dealer 3 times and the dealer stated that this was not a normal sound.unfortunately at first they said this was normal.only now are they admitting this is not normal for a new car.they have been unable to determine the problem after 3 attempts and volkswagen are stating this is a normal issue.the dealer did replace the catalytic converter which did not do anything to help.
2005.5 new jetta 60,000 miles and the timing chain has slipped teeth and thrown the engine out of time.new timing chain from dealer is between $4700-$5600.all maintenance and service was done at the dealer.from internet searches it appears this is a growing problem on early model years.the dealer has also added to their owners manual that the timing chain is now a serviceable item.however it was never in my manuals.
When the car has been sitting for a couple of hours it makes a loud grinding noise when you start it.this lasts for about 20 seconds and then goes away, but it occurs everytime you start the car after it has been sitting for a little while.i was told it was the secondary air pump and that it's normal.we've had the car for a week, and the noise just doesn't seem right.
Check engine light came on while returning home after shopping. Car was towed to the repair shop. Diagnosis was catastrophic failure of engine due to a timing chain jump on a 72k mile, 2.5 liter, 2005 vw jetta two months after purchase.
When the car has been sitting for a couple of hours it makes a loud grinding noise when you start it. This lasts for about 20 seconds and then goes away, but it occurs everytime you start the car after it has been sitting for a little while. I was told the noise was normal by my sales rep.i have had the car 2 and 1/2 months and the noise just doesn't sound right.
The engine seized for no apparent reason.no warning lights, no engine lights, no loss of oil.they could not explain why the engine seized. They removed starter, removed oil pan could not find anything wrong.i came to a stop and stopped the car for 5 minutes and it would no longer run.this could have happened when i was driving. The engine just stopped dead.there was no warning that there was anything wrong.i wonder if this is an electrical problem.
When we cold start of our 2005 jetta, the engine sounds like an airplane engine firing up -- the car revs itself after 10 seconds and then when you put it into reverse or drive -- it lunges.called vw and had the car to the dealership.they agreed that the car had an issue and sent out a vw tech to put a resonator on the car -- didn't solve the problem.then after 2 months of fighting the dealership and vw, we wee told that the car is performing to spec and that vw would not do anything to fix this issue.
I own a 2005.5 volkswagen jetta.just prior to the 40k service the car developed a dangerous power loss problem which rendered the car powerless and the only way to clear the problem was to pull over, shut the car off and restart.we took the car into the shop for our 40k service and no problem was found.in july we took the car on a road trip to santa fe nm and the problem became chronic.we took the car to premier motorcars in santa fe 505-428-5521 on july 5th, and as of today, august 24th the car is still not repaired.i have also joined a forum where i have met others with the came car, having the same problem and their cars are not being repaired.i have their names, ro numbers and vw claim numbers upon request.there appears to be a serious problem that so far appears to affect the 05.5 jetta tdi models.the problem causes the car to enter a "limp mode" where basically the horsepower is reduced dramatically and can happen unsuspectingly causing the driver to not be aware of an unsafe condition entering traffic.to make an example the first time it did this to me i was at a stop sign at a busy highway.i had sufficient clearance to cross but unknown to me my car had lost power but i didn't realize this until entering the intersection causing me to barely miss an oncoming car.vw has been very uncooperative with all of us as far as letting us share our information with them.i have compiled the service info for all of these people and shared it with each and when we speak to vw they refuse the information.it appears that vw has no idea what is causing this problem leaving many of us without our cars for months.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure would occur intermittently. The engine would also misfire and the vehicle would jerk and decelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics where the technician advised the contact that the b valve, the glow plug and the glow plug harness would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure continued after the repair. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer for diagnostics where the technicians stated that the direct shift gearbox unit would have to be replaced. The contact referenced a recall for the 2009-2010 models under nhtsa campaign id number: 09v333000 (power train:automatic transmission) but was advised by the manufacturer that the recall did not include the 2005 model vehicles. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 118,000.updated 04/02/12*lj
Dt:the consumers vehicle began to smoke when he applied the accelerator.this caused soot build up on the inside of the car. The soot was worse in the back of the station wagon.soot affected the whole vehicle. The car was taken to the repair shop five times for this complaint.consumer stated that it was six times, but the dealer did not log the first complaint in the computer.consumer stated that the dealership was not acknowledging the first complaint. The dealership told the consumer that there was nothing they could do about the emission problem because this was a new type of diesel engine. The type of engine hada pumpmade to use euro diesel which will not be available in the united states until 2007. This information was not made available to the consumer before the purchase of the vehicle. The consumer didn't wish to pollute the environment.he also stated it was not safe forbreathing. Soot could cause black lung disease. Manufacturer has been notified and claimed that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, and it willnot pollute the environment until 2007 when the diesel was converted. The consumerhad a meeting with the volkswagen representative. They offered to refund the cost of cleaning the car from the soot on the inside. The dealers phone number was not provided.
My car a 05.5 vw jetta tdi has been in and out of the dealer since may 24,07 with the same trouble. Loss of power.intermittently, most of the timewith out any indication or notice. This is a safety issue when you are trying to cross the street. If cars are coming and you pull out into the street and your car has lost its power and you do not expect it. You end up cross ways in the middle of the road with on coming traffic having to brake and wait for you to get out of their way. This happens randomly so you can't prepare for it. It also will lose power while you are cruising down the road and need to push your accelerator down, and find out that nothing is happening, and you may have try some other evadecive move. I no of other people with same the car, having the same issues and dealer have not fixed their cars either.
I have a 2005 volkswagen jetta my husband was driving the car and the battery blew up under the hood. Took the car in and was told it jumped timing tools and parts were unavailable and the engine had to be replaced this took three months and now the transmission will go into neutral while driving the volkswagen maintenance department stated there was a recall on the transmission and is 8 miles over warranty and they will no fix the car.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. The contact stated that the service engine warning lamp illuminated and continued to flash. The vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer and they provided a routine oil change. The contact continued to receive routine maintenance with the dealer and the failure progressed without warning. The vehicle was not able to pass an inspection. The dealer stated that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14e007000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. The contact stated there was a burning wax odor emitting from the air conditioning vent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who inspected the vehicle and replaced the carpet. The odor returned and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer but not repaired. The contact stated that the failure would only occur during summer months. The manufacturer was contacted and offered $1500 toward the purchase of a new vehicle. The vehicle was no repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000.
I purchased a 2005 new jetta automatic transmission in july of 2010.it currently has 72,000 miles.3 issues.one, when the car is first started up, a clanging noise occurs and lasts for approx 30 seconds, then it sounds like a vent closes and the sound goes away.two, the right front headlight will not turn off sometimes when i pull along side a curb.i have to restart the car, back the car up, then pull the car forward to get it to turn off.the third item occurs intermittently not always and involves shifting of gears.when the car is going approximately 20 to 30 miles per hour, it seems to bounce back and forth between 2nd and 3rd gear a little rough but not jerky and sometimes when coasting through an intersection the car seems to hesitate when i am ready to push on the gas.but then, after a couple seconds, engages into gear with a lunge.i recently took the car to a transmission shop for analysis and the man said he could not produce any codes.i told him i had received the letter about the transmission's valve body warranty extension.he drove the car and said the car definitely lunges and told me to get it to a vw dealership for a check up as he was not an authorized vw tech.i took the car to the nearest dealership which is 2 hours away from my home.they drove the car 3 separate times trying to produce the scenario i described but could not.the tech told me it sounded like i was describing the valve body issue and he would tell the service advisor that he had felt the prob and that my car needed a new valve body.when i picked up my car, the car would not drive above 20 mph without the engine roaring and the shifting hard into gear everytime.me and my daughter had pulled out into a very busy 40 mph traffic.it was scary. At one point the car would not go into any gear! i returned the car to the dealership and told them something was seriously wrong.next day, they told me my car needs a new transmission at my cost of $5000. What happen?
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen new jetta. The contact was driving 60 mph when the power windows and turn signals failed to work properly. The contact also mentioned that the exterior and interior lighting failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that both a wiring and crash harness was needed to resolve the failure. The manufacturer was not notified, and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage was 69,000.
I noticed the brake lights were in the "on" position after my vehicle was turned off and all lights were in the off position. I immediately took the vehicle to the dealership where they left it overnight and examined it this morning.they noted this was a faulty brake light switch and indicted the housing had melted overnight.this seems like a fire hazard. Also, volkswagen had a recall on this issue complaint # [xxx].when i spoke with volkswagen they said they are only covering vehicles with this issue through manufactured year 2003.my car is a 2005.obviously, this issue persisted beyond the years they indicated, and they expect the owners now to foot the bill for a faulty brake light switch and damages caused by this issue.i thought you should know this issue extends beyond the period they indicated and i hope you will consider making this a recall item.please contact me if this issue becomes a recall item.i feel, at a minimum, the dealer should cover the cost of the repair.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I was also informed that the larger fan is working, but it is weak and might need replaced as well. The car jerks and runs very rough. My car also makes a loud noise when i start it. When i am sitting at a stop sign or red light the whole car shakes. This does not seem right for a car that has 56k miles currently.
Over the past 11 months of owning my vehicle, i have had to replace the headlights (lightbulb only) seven times.also, other various brake and running lights have gone out.the first time, i had the vehicle for 1 day off the lot (used).the fix is obviously going to purchase new headlights.i've tried high quality sylvania h7 lights, and also tested the lower quality to see if it would last longer, or hold out at all.vw (via a dealership, not corporate) has indicated that it could be an electrical problem, a seal in the headlight assembly, or the obvious poor ventilation to relieve the heat build-up.there is a plastic cap inside the engine compartment on each headlight that is required to be removed to access the sockets.it does get very hot in there.vw did indicate this is a common problem, but does not cover bulb replacement under warranty, as frequent or infrequent as it might happen. On a separate note, autozone (local parts distributor) has made comments indicating the type of bulb (h7) is of poor design on any vehicle.another acquaintance has advised me on her vw, there are similar lighting issues.i am seeking a resolve, as the lights are rather expensive alone, and letting the dealership fix them extremely costly. The incident date listed was the first time it occurred to my vehicle, and the last time was 2 weeks ago.to note, the headlight usually blows out when i start the vehicle, not when it's running. The headlights are always on, daytime running lights.i am extremely cautious as to not touch the bulb directly, as i know this to cause damage.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. The contact statedthat the right rear brake light was defective; when he wouldturn the vehicle off, it would stay on. The failure wasintermittent. There was also a right rear brake warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership but the vehicle was not inspected or repaired. Failure of brake light switch leading to unsafe operation of vehicle. Improperly designed brake switch failed at 19,000 miles causing rear brake lights to no longer function.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta.in april of 2007, the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 07v063000 (exterior lighting:brake lights:switch).the vehicle was repaired at that time.approximately a year and a half later, the brake light switch began to fail again.when the brake pedal was depressed, the brake light switch would not stop illuminating on the instrument panel and the vehicle would not shift gears.the vehicle was turned off approximately three times and, finally, the brake light dimmed and the vehicle became mobile.the failure occurred intermittently for one month and the contact called the dealer.she was informed that the brake light switch was defective.the manufacturer stated that since the failure occurred more than twelve months later, they were not liable for the repairs.the current mileage was 71,707 and failure mileage was 71,207.updated 03-09-09 the shifter would not come out of park. The fuel pump was noisey and which was replaced by the dealer.updated 03/12/09.
Auto headlamps malfunction intermittently when the auto engine is started. All incidences have occurred after auto was in contact with water, such as during a rain storm or a car wash. The auto indicator light for headlamp malfunction is lit and different headlamp bulbs are out, including the day running lights and head lights. On one occasion, all headlamps malfunctioned at once. Auto was purchased on 4/26/05. First incident was reported on 5/20/05. The electronic control module was replaced by the dealer on 5/26/05, but problem continued since the replacement. The dealer service center has not attempted to locate the source of the problem since 5/26/05. The dealer requested the auto be returned when the problem was visible to them. I returned the auto to the dealer on 9/25/06 to show the service advisor the problem which was documented. They did not attempt to locate the source of the problem on this day and made an appointment two weeks later. On 10/10/06 the auto was returned for repair, however, i was informed on 10/12/06 that because the technician could not duplicate the problem, they would not attempt to fix it. I contacted volkswagen customer care center to make a complaint (reference number 60370228) and was asked to take the auto to another dealer for diagnosis and repair. I contacted the recommended vw dealer and was told the technician would need to see the problem as it was occurring, however, the problem could not be diagnosed without an appointment.
2005 jetta caught on fire while driving.the dealer informed the consumer, that a lot of vehicles were having a lot of electrical problems with the taillights.
My fuel pump failed with no warning, leaving my wife stranded in winter. This happened with no warning whatsoever - the car was running perfectly, and then stalled. This is a common problem on this model car.
I purchased a certified pre-owned 2005 volkswagen jetta gls tdi from randy hiley volkswagen on august 25th 2005.i took the car into north point volkswagen in sherwood, arkansas to have the fuel gauge checked out on september 2nd 2005. The service tech took me to the shop to look at the car. He asked me if i knew the car was damaged, i said no. The salesman had said it had never been wrecked and if it had been wrecked they would sell the car at wholesale. The service tech at north point showed me the fuel pump/fuel gauge-sending unit had been broken. He said the only time they have seen this happen is if a car had been in a wreck. They put the car on the lift and found that the car had been repaired on the driver's side. We found bad welds, and no paint/rust protectant. Hiley paid for the fuel pump to be replaced. If you look at the vw web site for certified pre-owned you'd see that it shows under the underbody tab "no sign of damage".i called hiley vw to see what they were going to do about this. To which they said, "there is nothing we can do." (hiley, general manager).i have had hiley fix a seat belt problem and check four wheel alignment on the car. After i argued with general manager about all the problems with the car. I'm tired of arguing!which i had to drive to arlington.the air bag light in on now. I took the car into moffitt vw. They say it's a problem with the seat belt.there's a flaw in the windshield. There are nodoorsill protectors on the driver's side of the car. The rear passenger seat will not lock into place.there may be more wrong with the car, i have stopped looking.i have submitted a consumer complaint form with the texas attorney general's office and the arkansas attorney general's office.i have also submitted a complaint form with the better business bureau.what does this mean "certified"? is it just a way to dump a not "up to snuff" car on an unsuspecting customer?
On the night of 25 dec 2008 my vehicle stalled in the middle of an intersection.the vehicle would not start back up, the ignition was cycled several times and assistance was required to get the vehicle out of the intersection to a safe location.the next morning the vehicle started with no issues.it was advised that the fuel filter be replaced and that was done immediately on the morning on 26 dec 2008.the same evening the vehicle stalled once more in the middle of a main road.it is fortunate that the vehicle was on a decline and traffic was moving rather slow which allowed the vehicle to coast to a safe turn-off point.three hours later the vehicle was able to start once more and made it to a safe location where the fuel pump (aka in tank lift pump) could then be replaced.a new fuel pump was ordered and replaced on 29 dec 2008 and the old pump was tested and deemed to have failed.there were no warning signs of failure, no error codes produced by the vehicle and no means of safely being able to move the vehicle after it stalled.the vehicle has been operating with the new fuel pump without incident.
My fuel tank exploded on my 2005 jetta wagon tdi.i was filling the tank up with diesel and all of sudden diesel fuel starting gushing out from underneath the car.the backseat bulged up so much that i could not lift it up.the underneath part of the car has been damaged as well.i contacted vw and was told to take the car to a local vw dealership.vw headquarters has informed me that they will cover the cost of parts, $900, but they will not pay for the consequent damages which have been estimated to be over $4,000, damages caused by the expansion of the fuel tank.i was also told that the car is worth only about $5,000, but that was with a working fuel system, i'm sure.vw headquarters also gave me the option of receiving a $1,000 loyalty voucher should i choose to purchase/lease a new car through them.i've been informed that these two offers are good for 30 days from the date of 6/19/2014.after doing research, i do believe that this same problem has been reported to the nhtsa in the past by another individual in north carolina.this individual's claim to vw was originally denied by vw, but later, vw reimbursed him for all expenses to repair the vehicle.
On the 'new' 2005.5 jetta tdi diesel vehicle, the fuel nozle inlet is too small to use a moajority of the diesel fuel pumps more commonly found at truck stops. Since when traveling cross country you would most like stop at a truck stop to fuel up, you would most likely be out of luck -and have 'search' for a gas station in a strange town, away from your route, that 'might' have a smaller nozle that would fit your fuel tank. The older jetta, golf and passat cars use a lager fuel inlet that is universal in terms of being able to fuel up anywhere. The current 2005 passat has the larger inlet, so what gives with the new jetta? tdi owners travel great distances and would like to not be stranded or made to go out of their way just to fuel up.vw should retrofit the older style nozle on these cars, or purchase a smaller fueling pump nozle for every gas staion or truck stop that sells diesel in the country. Which is easier?

Dt: contactreceived a recall letter on7-13-05 concerning the fuel supply line clamp. A recall number was not available. She called the dealer , and they said they could not get her in until wednesday 7-20-05 because they could not fit her into their busy schedule, and becausethey did not have the clamp yet. Consumer requested a loanerand they could not provide a loaner. Consumer called a customer care advocate listed on the recall letter to see about getting a loaner, and the advocatetold her to continue driving the car until she smelled gasoline, and then have it towed to the nearest dealer. The advocate suggested consumer contact other dealers to take her car in for the recall repairs, but she didnotwant to drive the vehicle any further than necessary. All of the other dealers were very far away, and the recall states there was a danger of a fire. She is afraid to drive the car. Consumer was only able to provide the name, city, and state of the dealer she called .

The transmission is terribly made. There is also an issue with the fuel injection that does not allow the car to receive the correct fuel as well as the gas tank. The car jerks because of the gas tank and the codes read ad if the cap needs to be replaced but the whole gas tank needs to be replaced.
The outside handles of the driver's door & driver's side back passenger door do not close properly.it appears that the cylinder inside the door does not lock the handle in place so the door does not close.i have to rotate the cylinder with my fingers along with pushing the door handle into place from the outside to reset the device. There was no incident that correlates with this failure.this occurs during each use of the door.in researching, i found that some 2005 vw jetta models were recalled for this same problem.when i spoke with the dealer, he said my vin number did not fall under this recall.
The automatic door lock stopped working for passenger door behind driver.there is not way to manually lock.
Door locks intermittently fail to lock or unlock, either by the key fob button or door panel lock/unlock switch. I believe this is a safety issue as it may impede access to the vehicle in the event of an accident.
The left rear passenger door will not open. Despite using the unlock buttons on key, the drivers door, and the passenger door, the door latch will not engage. Each time one of the mentioned unlock buttons is pushed, you can hear the electronic mechanism sound like it is unlocking the door, but the latch still does not engage in order to open the door. I have not contacted the dealer yet, but felt this should be reported here due to the danger of this issue in case of a crash / fire in which it could prevent a quick exit of the passenger.
The trunk does not latch in cold weather. We took the car to the dealer, but they said that the part is on national backorder. Have searched around the internet and there are hundreds of instances of this problem in these cars nationwide. When the weather gets cold, the trunks cannot be closed. Volkswagen knows about this problem, but our car's warranty has expired and they want us to pay to have it fixed ($190). If it is a national problem and they have so many orders that it is on backorder, shouldn't the trunks be recalled?
I was driving on the freeway when an accident in front of me caused me to abruptly stop.in order for me to back up and go around, i had to get out the vehicle and push it backwards during rush hour traffic.
Transmission failure. Won't shift from second to first. Or first to second.if engine is very hot it will most times but not at all if cold or warm.
2005 .5 model year volkswagen jettatdi(turbodiesel) with automatic (dsg) transmission.on several occasions while driving car,the transmission will for no reason shift into neutral, and all transmission indicator lights 'prnds' will flash simultaneously.so far,if engine is shut off and then restarted, the transmission will again function normally.i believe this has happened 4 or 5 times now. On one occasion, the car was in an intersection when it became immovable which presents a safety hazard.i can see that there is a massive amount of info on many vw internet sites about this issue, in fact if you simply google 'vw dsg flashing prnds'or 'vw dsg transmission problems' anyone can find it.it is a common problem.i see that hhtsa has begun an investigation based on thisfor 2007 thru 2009 model years, obviously a problem on 2005/2006 vw with dsg transmission as well.vwhas initiated a new customer service program to address customer concerns related to certain dsg equipped models but apparently mine (and many others) are not covered they say by this program- nevertheless a safety issue exists with 2005 and 2006 dsg equipped vw's.i called vw customer service (national) today 11/3/11 and rep said "i am not aware of this issue' for this year- so they are either lying or incredibly underinformed.i had the car to vw dealer for diagnosis, and they stated that a diagnostic test showed a malfunction in a part that controls transmission operation and was causing the transmission to shift into neutral by itself.their recommendation,"spend $2000 to replace the part,or just get a new transmission = $4000.since there is obviously a safety related design flaw that allows the transmission to shift itself into neutral- i feel the nhtsa should expand the investigation to include all years of vw dsg transmission equipped vehicles sold in the usa.

Hard shifting, it hard shifts and it keeps getting worse. I was told it was the valve body but volkswagen does not want to pay for it because it is a few miles over the 100,000 mile warranty when i have read many things saying that volkswagen was having problems with the valve body.
On february 16th while running errands i pulled through a drive through for lunch, car was running and sounded just fine, after pulling away i heard a loud "shrieking" noise and then a clunk, the car lost power and made a grinding noise, i immediately pulled into the adjacent parking lot and shut the car off, i waited a few minutes then restarted the car it started just fine but seemed to be idling a little rough, i shifted car into drive andlightly pressed the accelerator the grinding noise was present so i put the car back in park and shut off the engine, called aaa and had the car towed to the dealership.the dealership then called me later that afternoon and informed me that the dual mass flywheel had separated and would need to be replaced, they quoted me $1800 for the repair. I was informed that they had the part in stock and i approved the repair.the car just had 64,381 miles and i though it was odd that this failure occurred, i did some research on the internet and discovered that this is a "known" failure.since the warranty "just" expired i had to pay for the repair.i contacted vw0fa and they took the information but did state the warranty expired, i understand that but it appears that this issue has been reported numerous times and this needs to be investigated!i had just exited the interstate before this happened, what would have been the outcome if i stayed on the freeway at 60mph and this component failed?
We bought this car from a first owner in 2010 for my daughter who was then a senior at uc davis.no problem for the first 2 years but 2013 seems to be the beginning of some problems.the most major one is the transmission.there is a slippage on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears.there is a jolt accompanying the slippage and if there is a baby onboard, i probably feel the baby will be suffering some kind of pain.checked the internet for similar complaints from owners of the same model and seems this is a common problem with the 2005 jetta but there was no recall. Please investigate.
Transmission fails to engage into third gear, then engine revs up, then slams into gear. Transmission stays in third gear regardless of speed. Transmission stays in fifth gear regardless of speed.
There is a problem with transmission of jettas once i was on the highway and my vehicle stalled i was lucky as there were no vehicle behind me other wise that would have been a catastrophic situation for both me and the driver behind me.i pull over the shoulder and waited and started the vehicle i was able to drive after some time. This is a known issue for all the jettas volkswagen knows about this and they extended the warranty for sometime. This problem with transmission valve body happens after certain miles. I am out of this coverage and this is a safety issue and i would request that there should be a safety recall so that this should not happen with any one else. Please take action as soon as possible.

Jetta 2005.5 sedan (automatic) hard shifted between 2nd & 3th gears, displaying shuddering and hesitation during acceleration in traffic.since october 2010 hard shifting has continued daily and frequency of shifting hesitation issue has worsened. Hard shifting with hesitation up between 3th and 4th, and also hard shuddering downshift between 3rd and 2nd.dealer hooked vehicle to computer on feb 14, 2011 and stated transmission has no errors.dealer would not test drive for longer than 4 miles, dealer stated hard shift did not occur in that 4 mile period, test was not at freeway speeds, owner was not in the vehicle. Dealer states vehicle is not eligible for valve fix. Vehicle shifting failure is hazardous and dangerous highway condition.
My car haves all the gears highlighted on the display and occasionally when i'm driving it gets stuck on a low gear when i come to a complete stop and try to start going or if im in the highway it all of a sudden decides to shift to neutral gear making me slow down all of a sudden with potential to hit the person behind me or creating a catastrophic accident with many injuries or even death to does i might hit just because of my faulty transmission and i have look up the problem and there are many people with the same transmission trouble the nhtsa send a recall for the 2009-2010 but the previous models have also the same problems for it so please at least open an investigation about it so that way me and my fellow drivers understand the problem that keeps going on.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. The contact stated that the vehicle lost acceleration power while attempting to merge into highway traffic. The failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the transmission valve body had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 86,000.
We recently bought a 2005 volkswagen jetta (the newer design also coincided 2005.5) from a private individual in march 2010. We noticed there was a slight problem with shifting gears that continued to get worse. In june 2010 we took the car to a local volkswagen dealer and discussed the problem. They told us it sounded like the dual mass flywheel was the problem. That there was 2 different manufacturers that make the flywheels and they no longer use one of the manufacturers due to defects and problems with the flywheels they made. They said it was a known problem that the flywheels were bad and would need replaced way before they were suppose to. Even though the problem was known by volkswagen they refused to fix replace the defective part. They said we could continue to drive it and but would continue to get worse and end up tearing up alot of other stuff if it did. We looked online and found many other people having this same problem, though no recall. We also read where if the flywheel locked up/came apart while driving it could lockup the entire car. We did come across where the flywheel had been recalled in europe. The car was drove till november 2010 when it had gotten to the point where it would downshift on hills and when you would try to get up speed to merge onto the interstate it would not shift to the next gear( but the rpms were normal) and was forced to merge onto the interstate at a very slow and unsafe speed. The engine also had a very loud chatter noise. We decided to have it fixed and replaced the flywheel assy & mount bolts and had to have the transmission fluid flushed and refilled and a new filter put in. Totaling $1423.00. The new flywheel was not the same as the original one. It now runs great. Shifts perfectly and smoothly.
I wrote to you about a month ago about recalling the 2005 jetta.nothing came out of it.it is my firm belief that there is something wrong with the transmission.google the problems with the 2005 jetta and you will see tons about complaints regarding their transmission woes.please be objective in your investigation.
I have a vw jetta 2005 that has the 2.5 engine. For the last three months, the automatic transmission has started shifting gears by itself in hard shifts, mostly from 1st to 2nd at odd times. I was told this was a known problem in the vws and required a transmission rebuild. (i've heard that a number of time). I had to have the transmission rebuilt at a cost of $4,000 to end the problem.
Vw jetta 2.5l 2005 out of the blue check engine light came on at 81,000 miles. Random misfire and vacuum leak codes. Turn out to be timing chain stretched causing the problem cost $2000 to fix.
The reason for the late post is that i just discovered this site.i purchased my 2005 vw jetta brand new in 2005.it had 61 miles on it.i had the car for about 5 months when it was shifting very hard and nearly snapping my neck.i took the vehicle to the vw dealership over 30 times within a years time and they continued to tell me nothing was wrong. They kept the car and drove it and it of course it would not happen while they drove it.they actually told me i was driving the car incorrectly (what that means i don't know). I was unaware of the lemon law at the time.the car continued to shift extremely hard.finally after it went back for the 30th time i demanded that they keep the car and drive it until it happened.finally after 2 weeks (they actually gave me a loaner) the mechanic called me stating that it nearly snapped his neck and that they would put in a new transmission (rebuilt mind you).after getting it back about 2 weeks later the car would not go in reverse and was making the worst noise ever but i continued to drive it to the dealership.they had to replace the transmission once again (another rebuilt transmission).the other issue i had was the locks on the car. Some of the doors lock with the key fobwhile the back doors don't work with the fob or the switch on the door panel.this is frustrating when you have children and need to lock and unlock the car and get them in and out.
Check engine light came on while returning home after shopping. Car was towed to the repair shop. Diagnosis was catastrophic failure of engine due to a timing chain jump on a 72k mile, 2.5 liter, 2005 vw jetta two months after purchase.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle did not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle had to be turned off and restarted to remedy the failure. The dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 279,000. The vin was not available. Consumer stated incident happens when driving in the rain.
I have an early model mkv tdi jetta , with around 87,000 miles on it. Yesterday, on the way home, the dsg dual mass flywheel let go with pieces of metal coming out onto the road and traffic.i looked up this on the tdiclub site and found numerous issues with this part in early production, which is not part of maintenance.is there a safety recall or other tsb on this?i cant drive the car and just made it home.it was scarey.
2005 volkswagen jetta tdi sedan - engine ran rough and noticed slippage and hesitation during acceleration from full stop. Repeated results from repair shop visits found no problem, was told this was "normal"... The failure occurred while driving at normal hwy speed. A loud bang followed by complete engine failure. Visit to dealer confirmed catastrophic failure of dual mass flywheel, causing collateral damage to engine and transmission. Repair estimate was from $5k to $15k. Vw and the dealer offered no assistance due to vehicle outside of manf warranty period, despite car being well maintained by the book. Research on owners forums and web shows this same issue is prevalent in the 2005-2009 model years. Found over 3000+ instances from owners complaining of the same issue from as little as 15k miles of use....its clear this is a manf defect in the dual mass flywheel and that vw has not recognized this...
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle failed to shift gears. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the valve body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,500.
07/22/13 i brought my car in for an early 100k mile service because i noticed my transmission was not shifting properly & was getting progressively worse. I thought having the 100k service done would take care of that, it didn't & it got worse, so i brought it back to the dealer. The dealer indicated that the valve body was faulty & that it would cost$1000+ to fix. I just paid over $1000 for the 100k maintenance & other repairs; i can't afford the additional expense. [xxx], in the service department, stated that the issue was ??not that bad, ...that they see much worse, ?won't be a problem to keep driving it...?. I wasn't convinced that a malfunctioning valve body wouldn't cause additional problems, because when i am driving it feels like the transmission is about to drop out of the car & the car hesitates to the point that it is not safe!i did some research, found that there was an extended warranty on the valve body, however, i never received any notification in anyway regarding this, even when my car had been in for service. I contacted vw headquarters & spoke to [xxx] 8/30/13 who indicated that there was an extended warranty on the valve body, apologized that i didn't received notification, then indicated that vw could not help me. This is a safety issue & should be covered by vw.please have someone contact me. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I have been having issues on my 2005.5 vw jetta for the last several months with it shifting hard or not going into gear.it happens every time the car is driven, so much to the point that i will not let my daughter or wife drive the car as i do not feel it is safe for them. They have been stuck in the middle of the road and the car would just sit there and rev, but never engage in drive or it would shift so hard that they felt like they had whiplash.i took it to a repair shop and they told me it needs a new transmission with the price somewhere between $3-5k, probable close to $7k if you go to the dealer.after doing some research online, it appears this is a common issue and vw is aware of the problem, but so far not willing to do something about it.it is a safety issue and should not take a person dying for them to correct the issue.i have been a loyal vw owner for years, but am not willing to risk the life of my family for a company who does not care about their consumers.this is an issue that needs to be addressed immediately.
I bought the car in march of 2012 and on the way home i noticed that thecar wasn't shifting at the appropriate times and there was a transmission issue. After i got home i called the dealer and ask them of the car had any previous issues with the transmission, he said no and naturally i had to replace the transmission that was compatible. 2 years later i am now having the same issue with the car and i did research and noticed i am not the only one there are hundreds of people i have my car and are having the same exact issue i am. That being said this isn't a coincidence and i am in the same situation i wasn't two years ago having to pay $1200 for a fixed or a new transmission. The reason i know this is when the car is in first it doesn't want to shift to second and has a bump at every other gear.if it was just me i would understand but there are multiple forums this issue has caused people. I can't tell you how to dissatisfied i am about this because i love my car and i can't keep affording to replace the transmission. I hope this can be fixed in the favor of the hundreds of people experiencing this thank you.
Tugging occurs, but rarely. The car drives smoothly but will do a bit of a tugging. It had this problem for a while ever since it was purchased back in 2015 it was worse at those times but fixed throughout the years. I've invested major money to get the transmission, motor, and so on of what the mechanic has told me of the problems the car has had fixed.
3 oct 2011: this vehicle's flywheel assy failed at approximately 85,000 miles. Fortunately, the failure occurred while i was at a very low rate of speed in a non-congested area. After the event, i have come to realize that this is a known problem on dsg transmissions as installed on a variety of vw models. Vw does not appear to be interested in discussing this issue for model years 2005 / 2006. I am one of the luckier ones as i regularly make long distance - interstate trips with family in-tow. Volkswagen should be held accountable to accept full financial responsibility to not only take care of customers who have experienced such low-time failures but, also, expand any recall that may be in-place for later models so as to prevent potential life-threatening accidents within the overall driving population. I had been driving a "time bomb" for almost 5 years and, to date, volkswagen of north america has only issued a limited recall for later models, the 2008-2010, i believe. This episode will cost at least $3000.00 usd and none of it is covered by volkswagen. What is the root cause of this and how do i know that my replacement dsg transmission will not be susceptible to this happening again causing potential vehicle, property, and personal damage in the form of a vehicle "mishap".???
2005 vw.jetta - vin# [xxx]. The transmission shifts hard & down shift hard when the car has run for aperiod of time during travel. Also, the faulty air bag light comes on when the car is first started and may show intermittentlywhile driving. The catalytic converter & 02 sensor have been replaced but the codes still show when put on the machine. The ignition key gets stuck in the ignition.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Axle bolts worked loose and axle punctured transmission housing on drivers side with out warning.
As i try to accelerate the gears jump erradically.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta.while approaching a stop at 70 mph, the contact placed the clutch in and it failed to release.the vehicle had to be towed to the dealer and they stated that the failure was due to driver error.the clutch was replaced and the dealer did not charge for labor.the part cost $1,800.the failure occurred twice.the vehicle is currently at the dealer and they have not yet diagnosed the cause of the second failure.the current mileage was 55,000 and failure mileage was 22,000.
We have a 2005.5 vw jetta and have been experiencing hard shifting while driving for about a year and half . More recently the gears are stalling to shift we were driving in a local street when our car would not shift into 4th gear the engine would rev but would not shift. It is very unsafe for this to happen when you are on busy roads or merging on to highways etc. We have not used our car since and our mechanic told us it was u safe to drive. I can't believe vw has not taken ownership for there mistake and make a recall. Our car just passed 100,000k and should not be having this problem .to fix the problem we were told its the valve body and the part itself is $1,200 not including labor cost.
I brought my car in for an early 65k mile service because i noticed my transmission was not shifting properly & was getting progressively worse. I thought having the 85k service done would take care of that, it didn't & it got worse, so i brought it back to the dealer. The dealer indicated that the valve body was faulty & that it would cost $1000+ to fix. I just paid over $1000 for the k maintenance & other repairs; i can't afford the additional expense. Vehicle has manual transmission, driver selected first gear at an intersection, pulled away from light when it changed to green, tried to change to second gear, however gear lever stuck in first gear, would not move into neutral, luckily driver had enough forward momentum to clear intersection and roll off to the side of the road. With engine running driver is unable to select a gear, only way to put transmission into a gear is to turn off the engine, vehicle taken to volkswagen dealer for repair, clutch pressure plate had cracked in half.
The transmission is terribly made. There is also an issue with the fuel injection that does not allow the car to receive the correct fuel as well as the gas tank. The car jerks because of the gas tank and the codes read ad if the cap needs to be replaced but the whole gas tank needs to be replaced.
Please investigate! thank you.
In the mornings the car will not go into reverse when your foot is on the brake, you have to let off on the brake and reverse the engine a bit, then the car jumps into reverse, suddenly and unexpectly lurches backward.dealers response: back your car into your garage or parking space at night so you don't need to usereverse in the morning.
This probably is the same as the existing complaint number 10079735 for volkswagen jetta 04.1. It happens only when it is cold. If it is cold, the problem is repeatable. 2. While pushing the brake, we move the shift from park to either drive or reverse (it's the same). Then normally, torque is transmitted through driveshaft through the transmission. However, jetta does not function as such.3. The transmission only can engages when i release the brake almost completely. Up to the position, it is the same as neutral.that introduces sudden and abrupt start of the car.
Pretty much since i leased my car in april of 05 there has been problems.when i would put my car into reverse it would shift hard.then 3 months later i would have to take my foot off the brake and put it back on the brake for it to go into reverse.as time went on when the transmission would engage into reverse it would bounce back.now when i put it in reverse i can take my foot off the break and leave it off for 5 minutes and nothing, no reverse.i can pump my brakes and no reverse.i have to put it back into park and then back into reverse for it to go into reverse.the dealership says that it is normal.but it is far from normal.i just want them to take back the car.now my drive is starting to engage hard.
There is a long running issue with the 2005 1/2 vw jetta v transmission valve body that is a safety issue with the transmission. When the trans gets hot sitting in traffic. The transmission slips in and out of gear or shifts very hard or will not shift at all and may cause a rear end accident as thejetta does not shift. Vw america does know of the problem and issued a extended warranty to 100,000 miles or 7 years. But after doing extensive research there are jetta's that are out there that have mileage over the100,000 miles. When you call vw, they refuse to help and do not care about the safety of the people that own their product. There is also issues with premature brake light bulbs and head light bulbs burning out.
At cold-start, automatic transmission hesitates then lurches into either drive or reverse, which is especially unnerving when driving in areas with in/declines because the vehicle rolls like a manual.told by the dealer twice that there was no problem because the vehicle's transmission was functioning to mfg specs.this is a problem.
We have a 2005 jetta tdi automatic. This car was bought new and has been serviced at every interval by vw. We have had a common concern about the car moving forward in drive in erratic fashion when cold after about 6 months. We informed vw about this concern and they said nothing was wrong. Last week my wife was backing out of the driveway and the car stalled in the middle of the road. We tried everything to get it started but it would not turn over. We had it towed to our vw dealer who informed us that it would cost $600.00 just to make a determination as to what the cause was. We gave them the go ahead and a day latter they informed us that the dual mass flywheel has disintegrated which in turn destroyed the transmission. This dmf appears to be a common problem with vw's in general. In europe vw will fix the problem free of charge, but not in the us. We are waiting to hear from vw on what if anything they will do. The service manager was no help in this matter, except to tell us it was not covered. Stay tuned as we enter the twilight zone of design defects with vw!
This has been reported by others and i would like to report it as well, so that vw will eventually be forced to make a recall on this malfunction.when i start my car after it has been sitting for and hour or more, i place my foot on the brake, put it either into reverse or drive, and if i am on any hill, very small or large, when i take my foot off of the brake, the car will roll downhill.the first few times this happened, i almost rolled the car over a curb and down a large embankment.the only way to stop the car is to apply the brake again, and then release the brake and quickly apply the gas.when that is done, the car very abruptly jumps into gear.
I have a 2005 new jetta and at around 60,000 miles it shifts hard from 1st to 2nd gear and 2nd to 3rd gear. It also downshifts abruptly. The hard jerking scares me when driving because it can cause an accident. At some point vw has to realize this is a serious safety hazard. I got the recall letter about the valve body and when i took it to a vw dealer for service i was told that my car didn't have a valve body issue. They said i needed a new transmission. Cost $6,000. I contacted vw by phone and was told there was nothing they could do. Now at close to 70,000 miles the jerking has worsen and i have become very concerned about the safety of this car while i'm driving it.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta.on april 25, 2008, while driving 35 mph, the contact shifted the clutch into third gear, but the clutch never shifted back into position.she pulled the vehicle over and had it towed to the dealer.the dealer stated that the pin for the clutch assembly chaffered and failed.prior to the failure, the contact smelled a burning odor coming from the engine.the dealer stated that the transmission fluid was leaking.the failure was repaired, but the contact wonders if the two failures are related.the vehicle is currently at the dealer for repair.the failure mileage was 49,210.
When i am driving and come to a complete stop my car does a sudden jerk.when accelerate my car also jerks when i step on my gas pedal.
Hard shift from 2nd to 3rd gear and from 1st to 2nd gear.problem causes car to violently jerk and poses a potential safety issue when attempting to accelerate or stop.
2005 jetta gli - the transmission stop working because of an oil sensor in the transmission.the transmission stop working completely and will stop working in the road and can cause an accident.i reported to volkswagen and they said it was too bad you need to fix it.needyour help on this matter please help.
When sitting in stop and go traffic, the transmission shifts very hard in and out of the shifting sequence. When that happens the transmission will take a few seconds to shift into gear and thump very hard. After calling a vw dealership, i was informed that this is a very common issue with the new jetta's and beetles. Also there is very heavy crazing with the head lamp fixtures and cannot be repaired and causes serious impairment at night when the head lights are on.
The volkswagen tdi 1.9l engine when coupled to the dsg( direct shift gear) transmission has an extremely high failure rate of the dmf (dual mass flywheel). Failures have occurred between 10k and 100k miles. The internal construction of the flywheel is improper and will separate leading to the total failure of the unit. When the unit fails it causes a very specific and potentially deadly set of circumstances.the dmf can separate and then fracture into large shrapnel type pieces. This shrapnel will the cause the transmission and possibly the engine to seize. When the seizure occurs is causes the front tires to lock and subsequent loss of control of the vehicle resulting in possible injury or death.the shrapnel can also cause the failure of the transmission case resulting it the loss of pressurized transmission fluid. This fluid can contact the turbocharger and result in an under hood fire. Catastrophic engine failure is common as well.vwa(volkswagen of america) is aware of this problem and has redesigned the dmf. The new design has not failed. The dmf has been recalled in the european union and australia as a safety concern . Vwa has been successful in not covering this repair under even it's standard warranty. No voluntary recall has been issued.i currently have an example of the failed part available.this model has the potential to cause injury or death on a large scale if not addressed.
Shifting from park to either reverse or drive while engine is cold, vehicle hesitates and then suddenly jerks into gear.
1. Turned onto an off ramp and came to a stop2. Clutch would not disengage, car towed to dealership3. Awaiting diagnostics to determine manufacturer or driver responsibility.
Clutch completely failed at 35,000 miles, suddenly on a highway (the car wouldn't move, it would just rev really high). I had the car towed to my local vw dealer.the vw dealer stated that there were no faulty vw parts; failure was due to a worn clutch, which i am responsible for. I filed a complaint with vw of america. I was suspicious of this diagnosis, since the clutch failed so suddenly & in all of my years of driving manual transmission cars (16 years), i have never needed to replace a worn or damaged clutch.the dealer replaced the clutch assembly, which cost me $2,070. The dealer stated that this repair is not covered under warranty, & that he would show me the worn clutch when the repair was finished.when i picked up the repaired car, i asked to see the clutch & flywheel (for signs of wear & heat marks). The service manager stated that the parts were not available for inspection; they were already disposed of & in the garbage dumpster.after reading so many complaints made by experienced manual transmission drivers about vw clutches wearing prematurely, i believe that this case may be due to a defective clutch assembly, which should be covered under warranty.i've read on vw technical service bulletins that faulty pressure plates and/or flywheels in these newer jettas have been known to cause damage & excessive premature wear to the clutch.in my case, i wasn't able to inspect the old clutch assembly for other signs of mechanical failure (since the dealer disposed of the old parts before i had a chance to see them). Since there are so many similar complaints about vw clutches, i hope they issue a recall & reimburse the many customers that have needed to replace their clutches so soon. I am not happy about having to spend $2,070 to repair a faulty clutch in a car that is only 2 yrs old. For my next car purchase, i am considering buying from a different car company.
My 2005 jetta has a broken pressure plate in the clutch.the incindent must have happened while it sitting after being driven, because i parked it and it was acting fine, then i got back in later and it wasn't working.the car has only 15k miles on it and is less than 2 years old.i don't drive the car hard and only drive about 10 miles a day, and i have been driving manual for 12 years.vw is refusing to honor the warranty and is telling me the clutch problem is my fault.i have never heard of a clutch going in 15k miles, even if i was a terrible manual driver which i am not.i have researched this problem on the web, and it looks quite common for these cheaply made vw clutches to break down and for vw to find a way to not honor the warranty.i need help standing up against them.
I was driving and depressed the clutch in my car, at which time i felt a snap and i could no longer change gears.it began working again about forty minutes later, but would not shift gears at times.the dealer said that the clutch pressure plate was not releasing properly and that i needed to replace the entire clutch assembly including the flywheel, and that this is not a warranty item, even though my car has only 35000 miles and is under warranty for more than 70000 miles.this repair is quoted to cost me over 2000 dollars.
We asked our dealership to acquire it for us after our 2004 tdi was totaled. Current vehicle is a certified pre-owned we purchasedapril 25, 2006 with 10583 miles on it. Previous owner was volkswagen of america.on july 2, 2006 while on vacation the clutch completely failed after driving several miles in bumper to bumper traffic it started smoking and then the pedal went to the floor and the clutch locked up. The vehicle then had about 14-15,000 miles on it.a maine dealerdetermined that the hydraulic cylinder had failed and the entire clutch failed.took more than two weeks to repair the vehicle.when the vehicle was serviced by our virginia dealer it was reported to us that the transmission was cracked due to improper re-installation. Vehicle then had 17632 miles on it. It took another two weeks to force the maine dealer to pay for the replacement transmission and replace it. On dec. 6, 2006 my wife the valet parking servicebrought the car to her with considerable smoke coming from the clutch and the statement that it had "burned out" while trying to come up a ramp. The dealership claims abuse caused the clutch to fail and crack the flywheel in three places and warranty for the flywheel was denied. We have owned more than six standard transmission automobiles over our more than 3 0 years of driving experience and have never had a clutch fail other than the 2 failures in less than six months with this volkswagen. Internet research informs us that this is a very prevalent problem with volkswagens. Clearly the dual mass flywheel is defective in this vehicle and the clutch is in general prone to very premature failure.
Car developed pronounced engine vibration at 100,000 miles.vibration was accompanied by significant noise at idle with clutch engaged.clutch and flywheel assembly was removed and inspected.inspection revealed that the dual mass flywheel had failed and was the source of the noise and vibration.clutch and flywheel were replaced with an aftermarket single mass flywheel and matching clutch.
My flywheel exploded earlier last year and now i know that this is a common occurrence in diesel jettas. I had to have the clutch and the flywheel replaced, and volkswagen would not do it under warranty.
Premature clutch failure at 40,000 miles. Car at dealer for clutch replacement.
My wife and i purchased a 2005 vw jetta tdi (1.9 liter diesel engine) in october of 2004. This vehicle had a heating element that was bad and eventually fixed by dealer under warranty in november of 2004. Since approx. December of 2004 we have experienced increased problems with the clutch disengaging from the flywheel while shifting up or down and while passing cars. I have since found out the car (since 2001) has a dual mass flywheel assembly installed by vw that is at root of problem. The two layered flywheel is becoming over heated and warping the clutch disc abnormally in certain spots. Some mechanics and engineers have specualated improper design, and others said transmission bolts around flywheel were probably overtightened at manufacturer. Either way, our clutch is disengaging by itself from the flywheel after we drive car for 60 or 70 miles at one time (and car is heated up). The clutch disengages after shifing up or down and sometimes while passing, causing problems negotiating speeds. This means lack of control from the driver which equals safety hazard for most. Our car started this at 11,500 miles, but dealer is refusing warranty work because his service advisor failed to note the problem we requested to have checked on three separate occasions. Dealer is also denying it is a clutch/flywheel problem since he can not duplicate it in fifteen minutes, but has refused to look any further. Most research i have done shows thousands of vw jetta customers with same problem between 11k and 20k mileage (from 2001 to 2005 models).
I now own a 2005.5 new body style jetta tdi with just under 15,000 miles on it and in 5th i can feel the clutch slipping at times which i feel is un-acceptable. And yes i do know how to drive a manual diesel, tdi and non-tdi.
While entering the interstate and upshifting into 5th gear, the clutch was depressed. The clutch stuck to the floor of the vehicle causing the vehicle to lose all transmission function. The vehicle coasted to the side of the road and was towed to the dealer. The dealer determined the failure was due to the clutch disc which disintegrated and was not covered since it was considered a wear item.the manufacturer was alerted and no repairs were made so the owner then paid to make the repairs, even though the vehicle was still under warranty.
Dt*: the contact stated while proceeding from a traffic light the clutch shattered.the dealer determined the vehicle was no longer under warranty and offered repairs at cost. The contact researched complaints for the year, make and model of the vehicle and there were a high number of complaints relating to ashattered clutch. The contact expressed there should be a recall.
Clutch gave out at 32,000 miles.volkswagen considers this normal wear and tear.
The contact leases a 2005 volkswagen jetta.while driving 2 mph, the contact attempted to shift the vehicle into second gear.she accelerated to 20 mph, but the vehicle failed to shift into gear.she drove the vehicle to her residence.the dealer stated that the failure was due to negligent driving.the current and failure mileages were 15,500.while turning onto the highway, the consumer experienced a failure of the clutch while shifting into first gear, the clutch pedal became stuck to the floor. The dealer determined the pressure plate was had cracked into 3 pieces which destroyed the entire clutch. Updated 09/05/07.
Vw dual mass flywheel fell apart, rendering the vehicle inoperative.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. While driving 45 mph the bolts from the driveshaft on the passenger side were loose. The engine was on but the vehicle would not move. The vehicle was towed to his residence. The manufacturer was called and informed him that there were no recalls and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 75,000.
On 11/11/09, i parked my car on my apartment complex parking lot. I left my car in first gear as a safety measure. Next morning (11/12/09) i tried to start my car, but the car was locked in first gear even after pressing the pedal clutch. The car did not turn on but stalled and move slightly forward. Fortunately i had the hand break on. If i did not have the parking break on, i would have moved forward into a bush in front of my parking lot space. I turned off the car, switched to neutral gear and turn the car on. The car turned on and i thought i solved the problem. I put the car on reverse, to exit my parking lot space and again the car stalled and moved backwards. Fortunately there were no car or people behind me. At that point i realized that i could not engage the car into any gear and that the clutch was not functioning. My car is only 4 years old with only 46,000 miles and there is no reason why the clutch would fail so early in life. I read in many forums that the 05-06 vw jetta has a defective clutch and it could be hazardous for people if the clutch fails while driving. My clutch did not give me any signal of wear and tear, no sounds or difficulty while driving, it was working very well one day and next day it broke down. When i took the car to the dealer, the service manager expected to be a small fix, since the clutch was normally operating on 11/11/09 and it suddenly failed on 11/12/09. After a review, the dealer is charging me $2200, because they need to replace the clutch, the flywheel and the pressure plate. It appears that a vw faulty product is the cause of the failure, but vw does not recognize their mistake.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta.while driving 5 mph, the gear would not change into second or third gear, and the clutch jammed into the floor.the contact was able to pull off the road and drive to the dealer.the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and are charging $360 for the diagnostic.the contact refuses to pay for the diagnostic.in order to determine if the failure was caused by wear and tear or a manufacturer's defect, the contact was advised to have the vehicle diagnosed.the vehicle was under warranty, but it only covers the repair if the failure was due to a defect.the contact stated that the manufacturer would not admit that there was a defect.the contact will leave the vehicle at the dealer until they repair it for free.the current and failure mileages were 55,000.
Thursday aug 14, 2008 i was exiting off the highway rt 9 exit 5 in ct. The exit is at the top of a hill so i depressed the clutch and coasted to the bottom. My car is a 2005 new jetta with 2.5l 5 cyl 5 speed manual. I have about 70,000 miles on the car and have never had any problems with the clutch or transmission. As i started coasting i shifted the car to second gear near the beginning of the exit but didn't release the clutch. I heard a load bang sound and the clutch engaged. The car immediately nose dived and the engine raced to redline. The clutch peddle was on the floorboard and was not functioning. I had to lockup the brakes to force the car out of gear and coasted to the stop sign at the bottom of the hill. I was lucky that no one was following me at the time as i would have rearended for sure. At the stop sign the clutch pedal came up off the floor at the clutch partially work so i drove the car to the commuterparking lot and left it to be towed to the dealer the next morning. Friday at the dealership they said they would fix it but they don't cover wear and tear on clutch parts. The bill would be about 2400.00 dollars. Because i had 70000 miles on the car i would have to see the parts before i could make that judgment as to wear and tear. So i told them to fix it but i want the parts. The final bill came to 2164.71 dollars. The pressure plate and flywheel showed no signs of abuse or burning. The clutch had plenty of pad left but was broken due to the force of engaging at 60 mile per hour in second gear. The mechanics reason for failure was "pressure plate blew out" and my boss a mechanical engineer said it look like a catastrophic failure not a wear issue. I don't know why vw get to wash their hands of this under a came of they don't cover clutch parts under warranty and why i have to pay for it. If this could happen on a highway it could also have happen at a stop light.
2005 vw jetta clutch failure at 26k miles.there is no wear and tear on the vehicle, but my clutch went out while driving down highway.with car disabled, this can cause an accident. Vw won't cover this under warranty because they deem the clutch as a normal wear and tear item. I have read numerous discussion boards where people have had the same issue.it's time for a recall of these defective clutches. They are not going out because of normal wear and tear.defective clutches were made and put in these cars and vw is making customers pay for their mistakes. If i had been in a remote location, i could've been stranded on the side of the road for hours and could've been struck by another vehicle.also, with the clutch not working, if i had been driving fast, when i applied the breaks, it could've jerked to a halt and i could've lost control of vehicle. This is not acceptable.
I have a 2005.5 vwjetta tdi with a 5 speed manual.it has a sachs clutch.the clutch has been giving me issues for thousands of miles.it finally failed on my way home from work in rush hours traffic and disabled me.i was able to push it to the side of the road and avoid injury on i-96 in novi michigan.this is a known issue bty the manufacturer, but they are not helping out the consumers.they have a tsb issued on nov. 7, 2007#03 07 01.what needs to be done to get vw to own up to the problem and help us out?it is going to cost me $3,000 for the repair not to mention i was lucky to avoid injury on a busy highway during rush hour.perhaps the next person will not be so lucky?
Rear seatbelt latch button failed after little use. Will not lock together when pressed in position .
Driver's seat belt tab won't engage in holder mechanism.
Dt: the consumer stated the buckle assembly on frontthe passenger'sseat belt wasnot locking.the seat belt can not be used.thevehicle has not been to a service dealer.
I purchased my 2005 volkswagen jetta in april 2005 from colonial volkswagen in feasterville, pa. On august 24th i brought it in because my front passenger seat belt broke. The dealer indicated that they didn't have the belt in stock and would have to order it. I told them that i was unhappy with the fact that they didn't stock seat belt parts for a new vehicle and that i felt it was dangerous to ride around in a vehicle without seat belts. I also called volkswagen, but they have been unable to remedy the problem. As of today, sept. 1, 2005, the seat belt is still not in. This is a dangerous situation. If i should get into an accident and my passenger is hurt or killed, who is responsible?
Sometime in early to mid 2013, i received a notice from volkswagen that i needed to bring my 2005 jetta in to have the driver's seat wiring harness repaired due to a recall.i had no prior problems with the air bags or warning lights.i took the vehicle in and they did the work.within a few days, i got an error message in the display that there was a failure with the air bags.i took the vehicle back to volkswagen.i was told that the technician failed to clear something in the computer memory so the failure message had come on.they indicated they cleared the message and the air bag light on the display did go off.a few months later, the air bag error message came on again.i tool the car back to volkswagen.this time they said it was not related to the wiring harness and i would have to pay to have a new driver's seat side airbag installed, at a cost of about $700.in november 2013 i corresponded with volkswagen and complained about the issue because i had no problems until they replaced the wiring harness.volkswagen's response was that, even though i had brought the vehicle in for recalls on "a campaign related to airbag connectors and wiring", it was now the airbag itself that was bad not the connectors or wiring, so they would not repair it.the airbag light on the display is still there.
We recently purchased a 2005 volkswagen jetta station wagon.on january 5, the drivers seat came off, (unattached, was disconnected ) from the track on the car.wolkswagon has fixed this at no charge but there needs to be an investiagion into whether there are other cars out there with the same problem.this could have been a terrible tragedy if i had been involved in an accident or it had unattached completely while driving.the volkswagon dealership would not say wether it was a parts problem or an installation problem.
Abs control module does not allow brakes to fully engage.
My 2005 volkswagen jetta's left rear brake has worn metal to metal approximately every 10,000 miles. This vehicle has required 5 brake jobs to include brakes, rotors, and calipers.
Epc light came on and brake lights do not turn off even when car is turned off.need to replace brake switch and everything is fixed.
2005 volkswagen jetta brake pedal failed, when attempting press the pedal it wentto the floor. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but they were unable duplicate the problem.
20k miles, noticed rear grinding sound when braking.sound seemed to dissipate after a few hundred feet of braking.however, it turns out that the grinding sound was the rear pads having been worn down to the rivets.i now have to replace the rear rotors and rear pads, at 20k miles.this is very unusual.should be able to go to 60k miles on rear pads, perhaps as soon as 30k on fronts. Updated 12/12/2007 updated 12/12/07
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. While driving 10 mph, she depressed the brakes and they failed to engage. The vehicle proceeded into incoming traffic. The contact was able to avoid a crash. The contact proceeded to drive and when approaching a traffic light, the identical failure recurred. The engine was shut off and the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer.the dealer stated that the brake cylinder and booster had failed but could not determine why they failed. The brake booster and cylinders were replaced at a discount rate to the contact. The dealer stated that the failure should never have occurred and the manufacturer took the liability for a partial repair cost. The failure and current mileages were 56,000.
Rear brakes on 2005 vw jetta - metal on metal after 19k and 38k miles. Told by vw that it is due to a smaller brake pad on the rear. Fear that a smaller brake pedal wears faster and is thus a safety issue.
The car is squealing ridiculously loud when the car comes to a stop or in reverse.(mostly in reverse)i have contacted volkswagen multiple times.they have not been able to fix this problem or given any information on fixing this problem.the dealership has tried everything they could to fix it.i have other friends with the same year make and model with the same noise.the squealing noise is so loud, it sounds like an 18 wheeler coming to a stop.we keep getting the run around from volkswagen.if i had known this problem would not be fixed, i would never have taken out a lease on this car.it is only with this model.my previous jetta has never done anything like that.the car is a 2005 volkswagen jetta gli 1.8 turbo.i want answers from volkswagen on when they are planning to correct this problem.i want this known that there is a problem and for people who have over $350 a month to have the car, that this problem does not need to wait 1 more minute.
Dt*:the contact stated the brakes do not always depress.the first 3 times this happened the vehicle was in reverse backing out of a parking space and the vehicle stopped itself.the last time this occurred the vehicle was in drive, which caused the contact to hit a vehicle. This caused minor damage to the contact's vehicle.the dealership has seen the vehicle multiple times, but they were unable to duplicate the problem, and the computer determined the vehicle was fine.the manufacturer sent an area representative.he was unable to duplicate the problem.updated 02/06/06.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta.the contact stated that there wasabs failure.while approaching a stop sign at 15 mphthe contact depressed the brake pedal but the vehicle continued to accelerate.the contact stated that this failure happened on several occasions, usually when decelerating and stopping.the vehicle was brought to the dealer twice, but the failure could not be duplicated.the dealer stated that the brakes may contain dust.the current mileage was 18,100,and failure mileage was 17,300.update 4/25/07
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. While driving approximately 55 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to steer. The contact added power steering fluid to the vehicle but continued to experience the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the mechanic stated that the high pressure power steering pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 201,000.

The car interior has a crayon smell most noticeable on hot days. I am concerned that i am breathing in possibly toxic fumes from the evaporation of chemicals that were used when the car was built. After typing into google only the 2 words "crayon smell" i get many many hits for vw cars that have the exact same smell as mine, so this is a problem that affects a large group of vw vehicles.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. The contact stated that while driving approximately 3 mph and exiting a highway ramp, a very a loud noise was heard from the front end of the vehicle. The contact drove the vehicle directly to an auto service center where the vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic. The mechanic advised that the two aluminum bolts used for the motor mounts had fractured and caused the motor to fall onto the sub-frame. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 77,362.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. The contact stated that she noticed the trunk failed to close. The contact had to slam the trunk several times in order for it to close properly. Additionally, the front driver side door failed to lock and the open door warning light illuminated constantly. The contact also stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle jerked forward. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 80,375. ... Updated 02/28/13 updated 03/11/13
For clarification, my car is a mark 5 2005.5 new jetta, not a mark 4 2005 jetta.when you shut the trunk, it seems to close completely.it stays in the closed position and cannot be pulled open.however, once you drive off, the trunk may open suddenly and you cannot see anything behind yourself because the trunk hood obstruct your rear window.this has happened a couple of times to me, and many other jetta owners can be seen saying that they have the same problem on online forums.sometimes, the trunk cannot be closed at all.you can stand there and shut the trunk over and over again, and it will not latch.
Driver's side rear door wiring harness has broken, resulting in no operation of power window or door lock. Door will not lock. Service technician has advised replacement of the wiring harness.
The trunk latch is easily defective causing inability to shut trunk or opening of trunk while driving. Search forums online and you will see plenty of hits as a recurring problem. Ours needs to be replaced a second time and has opened while on the road. Thankfully the trunk was empty and nothing flew out and the road was empty.
Takata recall. My volkswagon jetta gls engine keeps on misfiring for some reason no matter what work i put into it.
As i try to accelerate the gears jump erradically.
Noxious odor from carpet underlayment.causes headaches and odor to be absorbed into clothing, skin, seats, etc.vw will not acknowledge the problem, nor disclose the material used and if it is off-gassing any hazardous fumes.
Hello, i am writing in hopes that you will help regarding a defect in this 2005/2006 jetta vw model. I have completed much my research on line and it made me anxious to see many others have had the same situation. I am asking that you help in this matter. I thought it would be a good idea to contact you first.i have already lost $200 in towing cost, when my car abandoned me. Basically, i found that i could not turn the key to start the car. The key would not go in. I tried to move the steering wheel at different intervals , but no luck after an hour in a dark garage. The key just wouldn't go in. I had it towed.i struggled to get the key in once i was home and in a safe place. I managed to push the key in after 30 minutes. A week has gone by and it has happened again. The key can't go in. I had to abandon my car again. I don't have an extended warranty but that is not the issue, the warranty would not cover it from y research. I feel i am trapped with this defect that is a common problem among others. Warranty or no warranty, this is a problem. See : http://www.cars-guide.com/volkswagen-forum/steering-wheel-lock-and-ignition-switch-problem-t4673.html. I called vw in auburn and they want to charge close to $180 to look at it and almost $500 to fix it. Unacceptable. If this was isolated here and there, then o.k. But this is rampant.
My car while parked and the engine going will stop. Also when i'm on the freeway the epc light will turn on and feel like i have a loss of power and it feels like it is accelerating. My mechanic has no idea what is going on with my car.
Dt:the contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta. He is having problems with the accelerator pedal. The vehicle will not accelerate when he needs it to. When he turns the car off and lets the computer reset then start the vehicle it will accelerate. He took car to a dealer, and since the problem was intermittent they could not figure out the cause of theproblem. Dealer could not duplicate the problem while having the car for eight days.
Dt: the contact stated when acceleratingbetween25-30 mph thevehicle hesitated and lurched forward.this problem was intermittent in nature.the vehicle has been taken to the dealer numerous times.however , the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem.no repairs have been made.
As i try to accelerate the gears jump erradically.
The contact leased a 2005 volkswagen jetta.the vehicle is a drive by wire vehicle and there is no mechanical connection between the accelerator and the engine.the drive by wire is part of the cruise control.the contact is a two foot driver and the vehicle was not modified.while accelerating, the vehicle fails to move forward.the dealer stated that the failure occurred due to an intentional computer program, which prevents simultaneous braking and accelerating in order to prevent strain to the drive train.the dealer also stated that there was no repair available to prevent this from occurring.on occasion, while attempting to make a left turn against traffic or trying to merge, the vehicle fails to move forward.when the vehicle does move forward, it accelerates at high speeds, approximately 50 mph and can be difficult to control.there have been 15 or more near crashes.the manufacturer informed the contact that the computer interlock between the accelerator and brake pedals were federally mandated.this delay is to prevent a crash if the accelerator sensor fails in the open position.on november 7, 2007, the representative from the volkswagen manufacturer drove the vehicle and duplicated the failure.the failure continued to occur when driving with two feet or one foot.the failure mileage was 2,000 and current mileage was 13,850. 2005.5 jetta--vehicle has rough shifting between 2nd and 3rd gears.as well as downshifting.while driving on a mountainside, going 65 mph, the car suddenly downshifted to 3rd gear and would not accelerate.i had to pull over on the side of a mountain, with cars flying by me.the car would not shift gears until turned off and on again.this is now happening during regular acceleration at low speeds.this is a huge safety concern, as i could have been rear ended by another vehicle due to loss of power/speed.
Dt*:the contact stated when the accelerator pedal is depressed, after being stopped at a red light, the vehicle will move for a split second then stop.if the vehicle is turned off for 15 minutes, it will go for 10 miles.this is an intermittent problem.the vehicle has been towed to the dealership four times.the dealership is unable to determine a problem, but has replaced multiple components.the dealership has reset the codes, replaced the throttle body control valve module, the throttle position sensor, the wires connecting the ecm, the accelerator pedal, 18 connectors, the wires to the pedal, bolts, and installed a harness.these efforts have not repaired the problem and the vehicle is currently at the dealership.
For several weeks, my 2005.5 vw jetta tdi has been intermittently been losing power upon acceleration.unfortunately, i never know when this is going to happen; thus it can be very dangerous when you go to pull into traffic and have no acceleration power.my car, as well as many other's cars with the same problem, has been in the "shop" several times with no *fix* as of yet.though vw and their numerous technicians keep *guessing* and replacing parts, the problems still exist. For those of us driving these automobiles, we are very lucky if we go without causing an accident or being the center of an accident when you have no acceleration power.
The contact owns a 2005 volkswagen jetta.the contact attempted to roll down the window, but was unsuccessful.while driving 30 mph, the contact heard a loud noise and realized that the driver's side window had come out of the frame.the current and failure mileages were 35,000.
As my daughter was driving down the road her driver side window suddenly dropped into the door, creating a loud noise and serious driving distraction.she reported swerving and slamming on her brakes as she didn't know what had happened.it turns out this is a known defect, see technical bulletin 64-08-06 and the warranty was extended to cover this part, but we were never notified.apparently, there was no recall notice, despite knowing of this ongoing problem, only a warranty extension after the problem occurs.this how now expired.she was driving down the road, in the snow, and this could have caused a serious accident.

During winter driving with temperature at 18 degrees the windshield wipers became inoperative after 45 minutes of use in wash mode. Water/ice builds up under a plastic cowl, this cowl hides the windshield wiper mechanics. The ice build up prevents operation of the windshield wipers. A friend of mine who is a2005 vw jetta owner has reported this identical problem with his car. Vw has refused to cover this repair under warranty, claiming this is an environmental problem.
