Owner is no longer in possession of the vehicle *yd

The airbag warning light came on at 15,500 miles nine months after purchasing vehicle, the dealer replaced the airbag circuitry under warranty, nine months later the airbag light came on again.

Airbag system indicator light stays on which according to the vw owners manual, indicates a malfunction in the airbag system.i took my jetta to a vw service center on 5/23/2000.service center is to date waiting for vw engineering in chicago il to provide repair instructions and authorization to repair vehicle.due to airbag system malfunction indicator being lit, indicating a safety issue, vw engineering has not provided a diagnoses/solution to problem.my vehicle is not in my posession but at mcnevin vw in berkeley ca service department.

Airbag lightwas on 5 times.dealer attempted 4 times to fix problem have failed.concern that will not deploy when needed or deploy while driving.

Took vehicle to amoskeag european auto for diagnosis of air bag light found to be an internal fault,(either wiring or bag itselfcame up with 10 codes) brought to dealer and confirmed an internal fault with bag itself!had to replace pass. Side frontal airbag out of my own pocket at a cost of over $490.00 due to being out of warranty because of milage.i dont feel that a 1 yr old car should have an air bag problem!! obviously there is a serious problem with the air bags in these vehicles and i think that consumers should be informed about this, a recall issued, and all out of pocket expenses reimbersed to consumers that have had to pay out of pocket expenses due to a well know (dealer / manufactuer known) problem! all they can say is that its out of warranty if you want it fixed you have to pay.i dont find that to be a fair practice at all!any help / info. You can provide would and will be greatly appreciated!thank you.

Rear-ended while at a stop. Air bag did not deploy.

I fell that i have had a lot of problems with my car and most importantly, the problems are on going.i have voiced my complaint to volkswagen customer service, the dealership service manager and sales manager.i have made it clear that i feel that my car is a "lemon" as i have had numerous problems that are ongoing.i do not get called back when they say they are going to call, they point fingers at each other and no results.the sales person/vw dealership consultant offered me a trade in value of $15,500 and a small discount on another car. I wish to seek assistance in making my "lemon" car situation right.i also have a written documentaion of my experience and service history.i do not believe that myself, as a consumer, should be treated in a manner, that disgards the integrety to make things right.if your ageny can help me, i would be appreciative.thank you for your time. No safety derfect listed.

While driving, the air bag warning light appeared on the dashboard.

Airbag failure light on dash came on at 65,000 miles.i have read many reports of an internal fault with the firmware in the original factory crash sensor, i think the manufacture (volkswagen) should recall and replace these defective sensors.the airbag may deploy at any time or not deploy in a wreck.

Date of first known problem provided.have already been through bbb autoline regarding most of the defects listed and thought manufacturer had fixed them.now vehicle has the same problems plus more.all work being done at dealership is at manufacturer's expense, however, this car is a major inconvenience due to unreliability.electrical problems aren't solved with replaced wiring harnesses, unsafe door hinges and window regulators make for hazardous driving conditions, airbag sensor problems, and quick to wear out rear brakes are all very dangerous defects for a new car owner to suffer with. Dt

Today i took my daughters 2000 jetta in for service. I have had many problems with this car and i take it to vw dealership for service and recalls. My daughter was driving and the air bag light suddenly came on. I took the car to the vw dealership and was charged one hundred dollars for the computerized check-up.i was then informed that there was a serious problem with the drivers'' side air bag. The mechanic said that the problem could consist of anything from an electrical short to that of a malfunctioning air bag unit. He stated that the price to fix this problem would be well over a thousand dollars. He also said that since the drivers side air bag was malfunctioning the cars internal computer had shut off all the other air bags within the car.the car is in the dealership right now awaiting service.you are the third person i have talked to at the dealership regarding this safety issue. I have yet to receive any answers. Safety is one of the most important factors in cars today and that is why i purchased this jetta. Your advertisements state that this car is one of the safest on the market.it is definitely not a safe car now and vw company refuses to help me fix a problem that should never have been an issue. I have talked to several mechanics and they have never heard of such a problem. All of them agreed that the dealership should fix the problem and absorb the price with no questions asked.this issue needs to be resolved immediately. I'll take this matter as far as it needs to be taken for a fair resolution. My daughters safety is very important to me and will not let her drive in an unsafe car.

My vehicle was broadsided on the drivers side, vehicle thrown into a wall50' away.vehicle sustained major damage tofront left side door/ front left wheel assembly/ front right side/ rear right side and trunk areas received major damages.

I lost control of my vehicle and struck a tree on the drivers side door.door deformation was severe and none of the four airbags went off.because of the blunt trauma to my chest and lower body, i suffered a collapsed left lung, a ruptured spleen, a broken scapula, four fractured ribs and a shattered pelvis. My wife who was in the passenger recieved a fractured collarbone because of the force of me colliding into her.i was in intensive care for a week and in critical conditon for four days, my left lung was 70% filled with blood and i recieved two chest tubes as well as my ruptured spleen was removed.i have not recieved all of my bills yet and allready all of these procedures are going to cost over $100k.

While traveling on highway, and without prior warning another vehicle veered into consumers vehicle. Upon impact, none of the airbags deployes.dealership was aware of problem. There was one injury.*mj

My automobile was involved in a driver side impact from another vehicle driving at 30 mph, my auto was throwen aproximately 50 feet into a wall hitting the front of the car and the right rear quarter.my forward speed was aproximately 30 mph at time of impact.zero airbags deployed.caused injuries to myself from non-deployment of airbags.

2000 volkswagen jetta i rearended a car at 40 mph my front bumper is hanging off and seatbelts did not work. Volkswagen was notified and is having a vw member look at the car in bellivill auto salvage 310 oakhill rd exeter ri. Due to faulty air bags my head hit windshield and chest hit wheel due to seatbelts.

1) the airbag system in this car has completely failed for no apparent reason. The car has less than 5000 miles on it and has been driven very lightly. The dealer initially told me that the problem was just a loose wire on the airbag indicator lights and that it was all ok. After i insisted that they check it further it turned out that the system had indeed failed and needed replacement. What is scary is that they were going to send me back out on the road with a defective airbag system. The technician (not the service manager) told me that airbag system failure is very common in the 2000 jetta. As you can see from my report, i have had many serious defects in this car and it is barely 8 months old with less than 5000 miles. I just wanted to let the nhtsa know about the problems so that they could look into them.

While driving at 85 mph consumer lost control ofvehicle and it started flipping.none offront air bags deployed, except fordriver side air bag whichjust fell out.

I had a car accident. A car hit me on my left side and the airbag didnt pop out then i hit to other cars because i lost control of the vehicle and in non of the hits any air bags in the front pop out either.

During head-on collision with a metal bridge, airbags failed to deploy.approximate speed at impact 40 mph.drive & passenger injured and car front end completely demolished.awaiting insurance co. Investigation as to extent of damage, possibly total loss.

Dt: was driving on an interstate at 70 mph and was involvedinhead on collision with the center divider of the highway.upon impact, air bags did not deploy.this was front impact, no other vehicles were involved.did not takevehicle to a dealer or repair shop, vehicle was totaled.the car was taken to a salvage yard.no one hadinspected the vehicle.

My daughter was driving home at approximately 11:15 pm in snowing conditions when she struck a snow plow truck in the rear.the front of the car was demolished and the spreader device came through the windshield, causing severe facial lacerations.the airbags did not deploy.there was no airbag malfunction light on the dash prior to the accident.there is no bruising across her shoulder or chest from the seatbelt (yet), though she was wearing it.the airbag controller and ecm have not been checked for stored fault codes.

Consumer states she was rear ended on an interstate highway and pushed into the side of an 18 wheeler, the front of vehicle sustained damaged and neither air bag deployed.

This is the fifth time the vehicle has been in for an airbag fault problem with the tension set to high in the airbag.vwoa has not been able to appropriately fix the problem and is putting me at risk due to airbag not working correctly.the airbag unit now needs to be replaced, but vwoa does not know what is the root cause of the problem which is a major safety concern for those with the problem.royal motors is the dealer that the vechicle is currently being worked on.the vehicle has also been to dublin motors in dublin, ca and loeber motors in chicago, il.

The contact owns a 2000 volkswagen jetta.the air bag warning light illuminated.the mechanic stated that the air bag control module failed and needed to be replaced.the failure mileage was 172,000 and current mileage was 174,000.

I have a 2000 vw jetta already have had experienced multiple stalling events as a result of one or more ignition coil plugs malfunctioning on my 2000 vw jetta as a resultof the engine stalling i experienced a loss of power steering and increased braking efforts when i pulled vehicle over to the side of the road to control the vehicle. After a few minutes parked on the shoulder was able to restart vehicle although the engine operated at reduced power............................also my brake lights have been sticking on and not working all the time as well.................not sure how to explain this one but here goes right by my ac switch on my car there is a button that is supposed to circulate the air through the car but when i push it in a light on my dashboard comes on and says brake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i have a loss of brake power, also my cruise control has stopped working and my hazards have stopped as wellwas hoping you might be able to help me as the dealer does not want to do anything about my issues.

My jetta has been back at the dealer 5 times in the past two months to repair the same problem.the car hesitates upon acceleration as if it will stall.the check engine light comes on.sometimes it stays on until they reset it and sometimes it goes off.the dealer has replaced the mass air sensor and cleaned parts of the engine.then the intake manifold had to be replaced.now they told me the problem is the ignition coil and wires for an additional $700.00.this car is just three years old and i have spent close to $2000 in repairs in two months.i didn't even made it out of the dealer's parking lot before the check engine light came on again.vw needs to address this issue but their customer service representatives won't help.*la

While driving, the abs brake light came on intermittently. Theclutchbecame stuck and the consumer had to jiggle the gear.the vehicle also had electrical problems.ac compressor failed.new battery went dead.four window failure due to electrical problem.*tc

Vehicle electrical system failed while driving.causing the vehicle automatic door lock, turn signals and factory installed alarm system to be inoperative.wiring in the turn signal lever was shorted.

Multiple and various dash indicator lights illuminate intermittently causing costly and unnecessary dealer visits to be in compliance with the owners manual.

Fire in 2000 vw jetta vr6, point of origin at ignition coil pack on the top left-facing side of the engine.

The vehicle experienced electrical problems, especially with the brake sensor switch. Provide further details........................

I am the primary repair person for this vehicle. Over its history, there have been numerous component failures that in my opinion are unacceptable for a vehicle with this mileage and age. I personally know the owner, and know that it is not operated under unusually harsh conditions. The vehicle was involved in a minor cosmetic crash early on, otherwise, there have been no unusual outside factors. At this point, the car has only 37,000 miles on the odometer. Primary use is on long trips. The vehicle is parked and stored for about 3-6 months each year. First problem: air conditioning system leak: the expansion valve failed, requiring replacement. Check engine/ malfunction indicator light: has come on several times, each time with the same dtc, a manufacturer specific code related to the mass air flow sensor. The power windows have failed, ultimately resulting in free repair of the windows with a revised retaining clip, as this problem occurs far too often, and finally, the rear brake pads have worn completely with the front pads in virtually new condition. This is accompanied by all four rotors being excessively pitted, with large areas of the rotor face actually flaking off. My research shows that i may end up needing to replace the rear calipers, as well, due to poor design.

Car will not start after being driven far enough to warm-up the engine. Must wait several minutes--up to an hour--before it will start again.the process of trying a restart results in much unburned fuel vapor in the exhaust stream.the interior lighting does not turn on or off with the opening of a door.horn does not sound when locking the car, auto-drivers seat positioning does not work.on the highway, the car performs quite well--good engine power, steering, etc.however, the non-starting after being driven a distance could result in being stranded and placed in danger.

From stop the vehicle would sometime stall.the consumer was unable to accelerate.the dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.the vehicle had a bad mass air flow sensor (maf) and was replaced.the dealer found nothing wrong with the vehicle.the driver side door lock did not always lock automatically and would cause the alarm to sound.the problem was diagnosed but the problem was not fixed.the vehicle alarm would sound when the vehicle was started. *sc

2000 volkswagen jetta 1.8t. The check engine light on my vw jetta keeps malfunctioning and lights up again and again. I have taken this to the dealer 3 times in the last 3 months and they say they fixed it, but it keeps coming back. Over the lifetime of this car (i have had this car for 8 years), i have had this check-engine light malfunction over 10-15 times.

Brake sensor failed. Epc light activated and car failed to shift from park. Mechanical brake on transmission failed to recognize brake was depressed. Faulty sensor requred to be replaced.

Mass air flow sensor failed at least 6 times in the past 60,000 miles, causing the vehicle to stall. Consumer discussed this with volkswagen, and asked manufacturer for an extended warranty. However, volkswagen was not listening. The driver's side seat up/down lever spring broke.the micro switch failed and as a result the trunk light and gas light on the dash were inoperative.the automatic door locks failed.

1) vehicle comfort module spontaneously failed.this happened while driving the car!2) a majority of the functions controlled by this module failed, including alarm going off while driving, fuel cap release not working, door locks, trunk release, etc.all failed.in the middle of the freeway, the alarm went off and there was nothing i could do to turn it off.called emergency roadside service and they showed me how to disable the alarm (turn the key in the door lock on and off several dozen times).however none of the other functions worked, most serious was that the fuel cap could not be opened.i had to get this fixed before i ran out of fuel!3) took the vehicle to the dealer.they replaced the comform module and most of the system operational again.4) however over time, one by one various systems starting malfunctioning again.within weeks, one of the rear door locks wouldn't close automatically.later the trunk release didn't work with the remote.then the interior lights wouldn't go off automatically.other door locks stopped functioning, etc.5) since the car was out of warranty and these were not crucial functions, i lived with these failures.but now i'm uncomfortable driving the car, not knowing where again in the middle of nowhere, everything stops working again.6) i called volkswagen and described this.they said i would have to go to a dealer to have the problem diagnosed and fixed at my own cost.they said that since the vehicle was out of warranty, they could not help fix this.i argued that this was a core component that failed - not due to wear and tear or misuse, but they still said sorry!

Coil pack failure on 2000 vw jetta glxv-6; this jetta manufactured late in 2000 and should have been included in recall for 2001-2003 years.

Air bag was repaired 5 times and spiral spring replaced - light still indicates malfunctioning system.consumer states that brake light was inoperative and the electrical connectors were replaced, installed front heated oxygen sensor, install 6 disc cd changer, battery was replaced and wiring harness war replaced. Owner is no longer in possession of the vehicle *yd

I own a 2000 vr6 jetta and i had to replace the ignition coil twice due to the defects of the ignition coil cracking. I read a complaint about this issue on this website back in 2005 and it is very expensive to replace the ignition coil. While i was driving the car, i lost power and it started to stall on me. I almost got into a car accident on the highway because i panic. I am a college student that relies on my car and i travel 300 miles to college. I noticed a lot of sparks by the ignition coil and i am very scared to drive my car because it might catch on fire. Please help!!!

My car had recall #04v096000 performed approx 1.5 years ago (a switch was replaced).that same switch had been replaced several times before.it is the switch that detects whether or not i have pressed the brake, allowing me to shift out of park. Sometimes it also affects my brake lights, causing them to not turn on when the brake is depressed. However, on may 14, 2005 i brought the car in again for the same problem, even after the recall.this is the 4th time it has happened.this time it did affect the brake lights - they would not come on when i depressed the brake. The dealership stated that the cause of the brake light failure was not due to a fuse, but due to that switch, and that the two are connected.when the switch malfunctions the brake lights could malfunction as well.the dealership replaced the switch (again).this is the 4th time that part has been replaced. The consumer has experienced several electrical failures such as a short to the ground which required a new fuel pump relay, esp light which indicated a bad brake light, the check engine light illuminated indicating a bad abs pumpand relay.updated 01/27/06.

Consumer states that vehicle is experiencing electrical problems which can result in a fire. Dealer contacted. Please provide additional information. Ts

I thought my first new car purchase (a 2000 jetta vr6 gls) was a lemon.i, like many others, have experienced several problems.problems such as:- rear cup holders broken- middle/rear seatbelt locked, cannot be used- 02 sensors both replaced since mil light kept illuminating- mas sensor replaced (and later recalled)- both front windows have fallen to the "black hole" (and later recalled; including a recall to the recall b/c they went from metal clips to plastic or vice versa)- paint peeling from inside door handles- alarm system faulty on passenger side door (dealer told me that unless the car beeps at me, the alarm is not secured.so, i must lock the door.stand by for 15 seconds, lock the door again and this time when the car beeps, the passenger door is secured.and, furthermore, (this is good - keep reading) i was told that if i drive too close to a jea bus, their bus computer systems are run on the same channel as my jetta's computer system and sometimes being too close to a jea bus will cause my cars computer system to scramble).computer system can be reset, and did you know that while resetting, vw can make your car beep in different patterns?that's probably a "feature"!- center console/armrest latch broken- large spring sits underneath my passenger side front seat- seat belt no longer click, indicating locked in position (dealer told me it still works.so, now i have to push it down and then tug on it, hoping that it really is locked -- if not, i may fly out that recalled window.)- child restrain seat locks recalled- trunk lock wouldn't stay latched- front fender separating from body of car- grinds going into second gear (manual transmission)- when car is put into 1st gear, it waits a few second before it gets enough power to fully accelerate- brake dust covers alloy wheel, in just hours of cleaningdrivers wanted...but they're all in the dealer waiting room!

Problems with vehicle's brake lights. *mr on three occasions, the window regulator clips were replaced.currently the brake light switch needed to be replaced for a third time. *sc

When operating driver power window it went down 2 inches then fell in the door. The same happened to the passenger front window on 16 april 2002. Dealer replaced the regulator in both windows. Nlm

I am requesting that the agency please investigate the performance of the ignition coil plugs on the model year 2000, volkswagen, jetta.i have experienced multiple stalling events and car not starting up after up or being parked after shutting off engine as a result of one or more ignition plus malfunctioning on my 2000 volkswagen jetta gl.as a result of the engine stalling and not starting when ignition is accelerated, i have also i experienced a loss of power steering and increased breaking efforts when i pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road.the car would not start when sitting for a while.after about 45 minutes or longer - i was able to start the vehicle although the engine operated at a reduced power.the vehicle will stall and will not start up for no reason at all.i feel very unsafe and nervous when driving - and have had the problem over and over and have paid for costly repairs.still to no avail, it keeps happening.tired of the vehicle - will never ever purchase a volkswagen again! please investigate the electrical system ignition moduleon volkswagen jettas - year 2000 please asap !!! i have been stranded in the worst places with the vehicle - with no help to restart the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2000 volkswagen jetta.the contact stated that the driver's side brake light would illuminate intermittently.the dealer changed the bulb.afterwards, she was pulled over by a police officer who pointed out the malfunctioning brake light.she provided the officer with the paperwork of her recent repair.the officer instructed her to take the vehicle back to the dealer.the contact checked the bulb and realized that it worked.she purchased new bulbs, but they would not illuminate.she assumed that the issue was due to the electrical system.on august 12, 2008, the contact had her daughter follow her to a dealer 30 miles away.her daughter was instructed to sound the horn everytime her brake light malfunctioned.her daughter sounded the horn a total of 13 times on the 30 mile trip to the dealer.when she arrived at the dealer, they could not find any failures with the vehicle.the manufacturer has not been notified.the current mileage was approximately 125,000 and failure mileage was approximately 113,000.

Aprox. Dates.severe hesitation @ 2000 miles on may 23 2001. Purchased new on april 8 2001.repaired three more times after first "check engine light" appeared. Light is on at current time and not under warrantyany more. This car has been in and out ofvwshop to many times for how new it is.

Both headlight plugs melted. Dealer notified.

My 2000 jetta vr6 has been experiencing coil issues for the past 3 years whenever the weather is wet/rainy and high humidity.if the car sits idle for 6-8 hours with a cold engine it is very difficult to start the engine without constant sputtering.there is no power in acceleration until the engine warms up completely.during this time the check engine light flashes and remains on until the next time i start up the engine or until the weather becomes less humid. This also occurs when driving thru a puddle of water causing it to splash the coil area. I replaced the ignition wires to the tune of $145 but that did not alleviate the problem.

Transmission failed.the dealerreplaced the part.however, two weeks later the part failed again.the vehicle would not go into reverse.the transmission slipped and the vehicle had run into a pole at a gas station on the right front side.this problem remained the same.the engine light had come on along with the transmission problems.other problems were:the tire pressure had to be reset on numerous occasions, rear pads, a/c was not cooling, glove box, power windows, console, power sunroof, interior trim, steering/suspension, driveability, trim electrical, sound system, and heating/cooling. *sc the consumer did not report any damage to vehicle when she hit the pole.

For a newer car this volkswagen has been very problematic. On three occasions after starting the car the engine would make a noticeable sputtering noice and shaking like it was struggling to keep running. The check engine light would come on accompanied by a sulfurous smell and bluish exhaust. Upon attempting to put the car in drive, after idling for a while, the car would stall and not restart. Usually within an hour to a day later it would start again only after reving the engine to high rpms for about 5 minutes. I contacted the dealer the first time it occured (too busy to see my car) they thought it might be moisture in the engine. The problem seems to occur after or around rainy/snowy weather. I had a tune up recently and the car still feels like it may stall when it is idling at a stop light or in the driveway. This is unaccepable for such a new car. Among other problems i had the indash cd player replaced twice because of defect and the fuses that illuminate the temp/radio controls replace twice all within the first month of ownership due to malfunction.

Bought used vw from a dealer. Dealer was doing brakes/inspection, and on picking up the vehicle stunk of burnt electric smell. Vehicle would not start. This was around 50,000 miles. Check engine light remains on although numerous codes continue to come up nothing is found.dealer sent car to authorized vw dealer to fix - light still remains on. Around 87,000 miles car began to drain battery and would not start even after new battery. Took to authorized vw car shop. Seems something with fuses/electrical system.again many codes but nothing seems wrong, accept for the whole not starting.ignition switch was replaced - light still on. Lighter socket no longer works. Now around 89,000 miles and it is now early 2008.

Multiple and various dash indicator lights illuminate intermittently causing costly and unnecessary dealer visits to be in compliance with the owners manual.

Request for full reimbursement in the amount of $1898.94 for unwarranted repairs.(nar)*ph

My frustration and fear at the fact that my brake switch has failed twice, my battery has died 3 times while with the dealer, and my brakes seized while driving on a major road and my alarm goes off constantly, is only compounded by the fact that vw has not one explaination for why any of this is happening.to tell me everything is "testing" fine certainly adds to this frustration because there's nothing they can fix when nothing is "wrong."to that i say, o.k. Then, give this car to your loved one to drive and we'll see how safe you feel.absurd -- will is take deaths for someone to do something?

While driving, my 2000 jetta gls, vehicle hesitates and stalls (engine light also would come on at times).on six occasions to service, vw claimed that nothing could be found.the seventh time, conveniently after warranty expiration, they found a bad ignition coil...which obviously, i had to pay for.speaking to four acquantainces that had same vehicle, all reported similar issues with the hesitation and stalling.the kicker came from my friend who received a recall on this issue (ignition coil recall) for his 1.8t jetta.a call to vw (1800-822-8987) to inquire about reimbursement for my expenses revealed that my jetta vin did not match the recalled vin's!!!how can a part that has been recalled not be covered for my vehicle that has the same part?this is absolutely preposterous.obviously, there are significant owners out there that are being talked into unnecessary repairs and sidetracked from the real issue and are not aware of the recalls or simply do not file complaints.a little bit of info...to test for the problem, run your vehicle with less than 1/4 tank of gas (one or two gallons will reveal the problem), and watch what happens!!!since the ignition coil was replaced, no problems...hmmmmmm!i urge all to call vw and file complaints with aaa and nhtsa if you have been duped.eventually, the truth will win.

Problems with emission related parts. Every time the vehicle has to take a emission test the vehicle fails and that the manufacture is aware of the problem but at the same time they are not doing anything to fix it. Ts

At about 50,000 miles as i was driving uphill the engine felt as if it was failing and losing power.it regained power, but the check engine light came on. I took it to an independent mechanic who ran a diagnostic, and found many codes on it, but nothing wrong. He cleared out the computer and sent me on my way. I now have 87,000 miles and have been having the same problem continuously.now, i have to take my car regularly by my mechanic to have the computer cleared out. The check engine light came on 2 days after he cleared it last time. I called volkswagen and they said there is no recall on the electrical system, but that they have had this complaint before.

The coil had started going faulty about 1 year prior. Due to moisture in the coil, the car was barely running -- it back fired, and was nearly impossible to get it rolling up a hill, almost causing me to roll into a car behind me at a stop sign. I was able to get it replaced under the extended warranty, but it should have been covered by the recall on all the other coils -- there are numerous reports of 2000 models with the vr6 engine having the same coil failure.

Request for full reimbursement in the amount of $1898.94 for unwarranted repairs.(nar)*ph

Dt:the consumer states the check engine light is on. The consumer took the vehicle to a service dealer and they told him the ignition coil was bad. They wanted to replace the ignition coil at a cost of over $700.00; parts only. The consumer has visited a website and found a recall on a later model; 2001 vw jetta. His car is doing the same thing as listed on this recall. He has talked to vw and they said they could not help him.he noticed problems about 3 weeks ago. The dealer told him it had a 100,000 10 year warranty, but they will not fix it under the warranty. 8jb

I would like to register a complaint about the coil pack failure on my 2000 vw jetta - this is a serious safety issue that vw of america refuses to address.this coil pack fails and causes immediate loss of power in the engine - i was driving and lost power in 2 of the 4 cylinders.vw did not cover my replacement.this is happening on numerous vws.there should be a recall - it is a defect.

2000 volkswagen jetta gls vr6 has recall for faulty cruise control brake light switch.*mr the engine light illuminated and after a diagnosticwas performed it was determined a new catalytic converter was needed. It was finally determined that the converter failed due to a faulty coil pack.

While driving, the check engine light flashed and then stayed on, followed by the vehicle sputtering. Then it stopped accelerating. The dealership performed a diagnostic test, in which the failure wa a failed ignition coil.the ignition coil has been replaced twice, but the failure has recurred. This failure occurs every 20,000 miles. The dealership cannot indicate what was causing the failure.

While parking the vehicle consumer turn off the electrical ignition switch, took the key and vehicle was still running. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information. Ts

2000 vw jetta, vr6 engine, 49,3331 mile.whenever my car was idle for more than 6-8 hours and was exposed to rainy\wet weather, the engine would experience performance issues. Immediately after starting the car under these circumstances, the engine would sputter and sound like it was on the verge of stalling. If i attempted to drive the car without letting it fully warm-up, the engine would experience a severe performance degradation, characterized by poor, rough acceleration.the check engine light would also illuminate, and i would receive the emissions workshop warning message.this problem has occured several times over the past 1-2 years. At first the problem was mild, but over time it worsened.i took the car into the dealer for service and was informed that the ignition coil and ignition leads needed replacement to resolve the problem.these parts have been replaced, and thus far the issue with my engine has not reappeared.vw issued an ignition coil recall for various other 2001, 2002 and 2003 models.it appears the ignition coil recall should be expanded to include other model years as this is not the kind of part that should need regular replacement.it's quite obvious there's a defect with this part.

1) no events or prior warning of failure.2) failure -- key loses programming and cannot communicate with electronic immobilizer.car cannot be started and must be towed to dealer for reprogramming of keys. 3) lost programming of key in june 2004 while car parked at home.car towed to dealer who reprogrammed keys.occurred again on 3/9/05 while 70 miles from home.car towed to nearest dealer who reprogrammed the only key -- the spare & valet keys now inoperative, requiring car to be delivered to dealer to get all 3 keys reprogrammed to match.

The vehicle failed to start on several occasions due to immobilizer being activated. The dealer repaired the vehicle a number of times for the same problem, but was unable to correct the problem.

Starting on may 23,2003 i started taking my jetta vr6 into the dealership due to the fact that the check engine (mil) light was on and occasionally while driving the car would die.i would drive at 40 mph or be at a stop sign and either way the car would just drop all power.i lost control of steering and everything else and would have to restart the car while driving down the road.the 1st time i was told that a 40,000-mile tune up would fix the situation.it occurred again after the tune about two weeks later, and i was informed that it was an o2 sensor and the mass flow sensor that has problems.they paid for the mass flow sensor and it's labor and i paid for the o2 sensor and it's labor.after the repair and replacement it occurred (with in the same week); they said it was another o2 sensor and they paid for the labor where i paid for the part.on the fourth visit, they said that it was the catalytic converter and one of the 2 o2 sensors that had already been replaced had gone bad again.they paid for both of these issues and assured me the problem was fixed. It wasn't the next time they told me it was the alternator.after much discussion i asked them to drive it and make sure as the alternator they wanted me to buy was $700.they called back a week later and said they were wrong it was the battery instead and that i owed them $125.i paid because i was too tired to argue anymore.that was on 8/9/03.on 10/6/03 the car died again.they are now saying it is the ignition switch and that it was causing the battery to drain (meaning to me, i may not have needed to purchase a new battery 2 months ago).they wanted me to pay for the part and half the labor because the car is out of warranty (only came with 2/24k).starting to wonder what will they blame it on (and charge me for) next month.car is currently at 48500.*la

While driving 40 mph a fire started under the passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The cause of fire was undetermined.also, dealership floor manager indicated there were manyvolkswagen jettas with this kind of problem.

Vehicle suffered a lost of power when check engine light illuminates.*mron march 7 2002 university vw discovered a defective airflow meter.the windshield was replaced for a cracked rain drain. The brake servo was changed for a pin hole air leak. Consumer was told that the glow plug harness might be the cause as to why the brake lights come on.the hazard switchswitched on and off distressing other drivers behind. Replaced the hazard relay switch (on the dash) by myself. Back brake pad wore down to the rivets. Vehicle overheated on 3 occasions had pressure test and thermostat changed and problem still exist.

Mass air flow sensor & wiring harness failure on 2000 jetta tdi with 55,000 miles.car lost acceleration and automatic shifting ability on interstate highway creating very dangerous situation.this is apparently a known failure problem with vw since i was told it is covered by an extended warranty & "it's happened to a lot of others".we had to leave car with a dealer in nj & rent a car to get home to massachusetts.

No engine light came on and i lost power up hill all of a sudden and was almost hit by a car and a semi in back of me. I took it to dick hanna in vanc. Wa and they looked at it. They thought it was the mass air sensor . I called volkswagon and they only would offer to pay 50/50 on the job.but this is after i just paid 1300.00 for th e 40,000 mile check up.then i refused i said i wanted to go to another dealer and have it looked at. Volkswagon then said that they might not pay anything on it if i did go to armstrong,(where i originally bought the car) when i asked them why they are willing to pay 100% to others with this problem they said they review these cases (case by case). When asked why would they not offer 50/50 if i went to armstrong they got really nasty on the phone. I think that volkswagon needs to be investigated, there sounds like there is something illegal going on.dt

Numerous electrical compnents have failed and been replaced.the misfiring on acceleration causes car to thrust forward after applying the throttle.i consider this to be a safety hazard, as i was almost struck by on-coming trafic in an intersection.

Dt

Problem with engine control module which caused electrical failure throughout vehicle, in particular, disabled all door locking systems, trunk and gas door buttons, overhead lights and heating/cooling pannel lights. This caused serious issue as owner was unable to manually open gas door to fill vehicle due to button on the door being diabled and was unable to set vehicle alarm system due to locking system being disabled. Issue was traced to comfort covenience module, and traced to main wiring harness that was causing a short and blown fuses.to merely find and diagnose the problem took dealer over 11 hours to replace $2.88 worth of parts---an extremely excessive amount of time.volkswagon usa stands by dealer and refused assistance even though customer service reps acknowledged that repair time seemed extremely excessive in nature.have seen similar complaints regarding vw electrical system issues and will be filing complaints with oag's in ma and nh.

Dealers openly acknowlege problems with their map sensors on gas and diesel engines, but volkswagen of america internally refuses to recall this item.the same complaints are made about the very common relay 109 fuse failures, which volkswagenw is likewise putting off.please force them to recall these two items that have cost me plenty of out of pocket money, even though my car is under warranty.this is a rip-off of all consumers by vw of america and they need to be held accountable for their ignorance of these obvious problems!

My car is nightmare of failures. Cruise control light (dealer claims the car doesnt have one - but you can see it if you use a flashlight at an oblique angle) failure, abs module switch failure (according to dealer) causing cruise control to unexpectedly disengage. I also learned from other motorists that the same switch controls brake light illumination (all bulbs and other signal lights work). Fuel injection module over injected gas causing excessive pressure. Relief valve failed to open causing turbo overpressure to +120psi. Failure caused hoses to blow sending hose clamps as projectiles. This week, the front passenger side window unexpectedly dropped into the door. Dealer has literally taped the window up until a part arrives. Dealer admits to mfg design defect - no voluntary recall. No dealers will voluntarily replace clips until they fail.volkswagen position is that they know there is a design flaw, but wont replace known bad clips until there is a failure. Window failure could cause objects (stones kicked up by tires of other cars) to hit passengers. Infant / child safety risk. Window integrity questionable in an accident if it fails when driving 15mph. Help!

No warning lights illuminated.periodically the braking pressure was released and a pedal pulse was felt while stopping.the dealer stated that the problem to the abs pump leaked into the abs module.the consumer's daughter was unable to stop in a parking lot as a result of the brakes releasing causing her to hit another vehicle.the person in the other vehicle sought medical treatment. *sc

The red lighting for the climate control knobs intermittently fail

Was driving down the road, when my jetta lost complete power. I managed to steer of the road, put vehicle in park an turned the key off, then smoke started pouring out from under my hood. Raised the hood to only see flames! thank god a gentleman stopped an had gallon of water. Had the vehicle towed to my house(3 miles) an there it sits! most the damage is contained to the top of the motor on the drivers side. The car wasn't even over heating!! the only issue iv had in the year iv owned it is the transmission seemed to not go past third gear, which caused the rpm to rise, of course... Honestly ,just thankful a stranger stopped...signed, with out a car.

2000 volkswagen jetta. Consumer writes in regards to engine and warning lights coming on. *ldthe consumer stated the day after purchasing the vehicle the engine, abs, and traction control lights, illuminated. The dealer offered to repair the vehicle if the consumer bought the parts. The consumer declined.

Water pump and back housing the coolant system

I purchased this vehicle recently and have noticed a distinct diesel smell when idling or driving at low speeds. Smells strong like leaking diesel fuel. The car idles very rough and sometimes stalls when coming to a stop. There is a very bad odor whenever i enter the vehicle. I am concerned that the car will stall and i might be in an unsafe position during traffic. I think the clutch might be defective. It sounds very loud. The vehicle has 260,000 miles. Diesls are supposed to run forever but i feel like i bought a lemon.

I was driving in traffic around 35 mph.saw smoke in my rearview mirror so immediately pulled off to side of road. The car wasnt overheating, and no warning lights came on until after i began slowing down to pull over.as i stopped and turned off the car, i realized the engine compartment was on fire, i grabbed my phone and called 911 as i got away from the vehicle.

One year after purchasing this vehicle from a private owner, today was the second incident i've had regarding the clutch and the fumes it emits. Six months ago i noticed the clutch slipping and immediately took it into a repair shop.on top of the slipping clutch, the coolant and emissions workshop and electrical became a problem. "stop coolant low" would always appear on my dash, however the coolant would be filled. The engine light also stayed on. The mechanic did all he could to fix it. Six months later, today, i'm having the same issue with this vehicle. Only difference is, i immediately became ill while driving and breathing in the fumes the vehicle emit.i became nausea, dizzy and vomited. This issue regarding the clutch is an ongoing digression to the vehicle and the safety and health of myself and other drivers.i hope vw will take this seriouslyand investigate this case, i have friends who've also experience similar instances with their vw vehicles. I hope to get mine and all vehicles who have displayed similar issues repaired properly by the correct mechanics before anyone else becomes suddenly ill like i have today.

The contact owns a 2000 volkswagen jetta. While driving 80 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was maneuvered to the shoulder of the road and towed back to the contact's residence. The contact stated that the vehicle would not restart. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 245,000.

I own a 2000 vw jetta 2.0 gls automatic. I was coasting down a hill and coming to a stop. I started using my brakes and all of a sudden with out any warnings chimes or indication my car completely shut off, brakes and steering wheelfelt locked up and i almost crashed if not for my friend helping me move my steering wheel towards a side street to figure out what happen. Car would not restart. Only after an hour or so of waiting for a tow truck did my car start but was different. This happened to me 4 more times. Last time this happened i was on my way home from new job at around 2 am est i got lost and car stalls out on me with no indication and it does not just stall and stop it stalls and continues to roll until you loose momentum this is not safe. Thankfully this problem did not happen to me while on a high way this problem could cause serious injury or even death if ones car stalls and they can not control it. I took the car to my mechanic and confirmed bad coil pack and crank position sensors.

Owner's son was driving volkswagen and it started overheating. During the course of the evening, he tried a few times to let car cool down and then continue driving, but the engine would continue to overheat. He managed to continue driving and noticed smoke coming from the back of the volkswagen. He shut the engine off and coasted to a stop. He got out and noticed sparks dripping from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle became engulfed in fire. Cause undetermined, but spark plugs showed evidence of a rich air/fuel mixture.

Replaced rear brake light 4 times; emergency flasher & turn signals fail to work randomly. Twice had rear brake pads replaced; rotors turned second time -- total cost $550. Repeated sensor failures -- knock sensor, mass air flow sensor, coolant temperature sensor; induction coil failure & vehicle imbolized. Driver mirror repaired twice; passenger p/window stuck down; driver window lock twice; seat belt cracked

No instrument panel light on temperature control.vehicle been at the dealer shop for four days, and was unable to locate the problem. Feel free to provide any further information.

On three occasions my driver/and or passenger side windows fell into the doors. Vw fixed them at no charge...after much arguing. Ever since i first bought the car (brand new), my car is down 2 quarts before the 3000 mile oil change. Vw says that this is normal.i don't think that is right.

My 2000 jetta ran dry on oil at 21,000 miles but not under 2yr bumper to bumper warranty (6k miles after a factory oil change).they did a consumption test for 1500 miles and assured us everything was ok.it was ok for 1500 miles then it was empty again.they had to change the piston rings and pretended that this was a unique problem for our car.i have since read other reports of similar experiences.

Vehicle stalls suddenly and the power steering locks up.please provide further information.ph

My 2000 jetta gls vr6 has on three different occasions lost power when driving and the check engine light came on.on all three occasions, i brought the car to the vw service department to have it diagnosed as a faulty coil pack and wires.each time i replaced paying over $1000 out of my own pocket, for what is clearly a defective part with the vw coil packs in vr6 engines.

*sc

My vehicle is a tdi diesel -computer/engine - engine diagnosis light has come on - diagnosis ($85.00) gate on turbo charger does not operate properly. Was told could drive vehicle but performance may deteriorate. Engine light still comes on ocaaisionaly. Rear brakes seized and wore completely out - dealer refused any warranty - wrote v/w customer service - they refunded about 90% of my cost

When driving at an undetermined speed check engine lightappeared on the dashboard, then the vehicle stalled.consumer had informed the dealer about this issue. However, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem.

While driving at any speedvehicle lost power and stalled.dealer replaced theintake air filter which was clogged at consumer's expenses of $ 1,892.94.the consumer was informed that the problem was due to the throttle body and the intake had carbon build up.the intake and egr were cleaned and the air mass meter was replaced .the air meter was defective.after the repairs, the consumer noticed that the engine would continue to come on. *sc

After coming up a steep hill in a heavy snowstorm, the engine of my 2000 gls v6 volkswagen jetta caught fire and burned up.the car was in excellent condition and well serviced.i parked the car in the garage and there was no sign or smell of smoke.after the third trip out to the car to unload groceries, smoke began to come out from the hood.fortunately, i was able to get the car out of the garage or my home would have burned to the ground. Despite the cold temperatures and snowstorm outside, flames soon began to drop below the car from the engine and flames 8 feet high engulfed the front half of the car before the fire department could put out the fire.just before arriving home, by low gas light came on (it was expected), but no warning appeared about the temperature of the engine.i would have immediately pulled over had there been a high temperature warning.the coolant level was normal.because of the unusual circumstances, i believe the cooling system is faulty.

Car temperture gauge suddenly shot up to 230 degrees this particular morning.the vehicle usually signals us if there is something wrong i.e. Brake light, engine light, oil, etc.without prior warning and knot knowing why this is happening the car was driven to the dealership instead of the intended destination.the customer service rep at dealeship guestimated that a water pump needed replaced which is causing the vehicle to overheat.the car could not be serviced that day due to prior appointments of the dearlership.the car was driven back home until late sunday evening when the car was driven back to the dealership for possible repair monday morning.car was smoking and then tunred off.the car was towed to the dealership monday evening.as of tuesday 6/7/05 the mechanins at the dealership report that the car cannot be repaired due to the hoses melting into the engine.the car was serviced several times prior to the incident at the same dearlership, once even for inspection in february 2005 and this repair was never mentioned.since feb.the car has been serviced for oil changes and several minor repairs needed such as mirror, cup holder, tires, etc.prior to the incident the car was driven over 300 miles and no warning light or signal was given.now the car is unrepairable.the dearlership claims that a 2000 vw jetta is only worth 1500 dollars!

Most recently, the water pump failed.apparently this is another common failure, which should be covered by a recall.here is the list of other problems i have had:-both window regulators failed (covered by recall)-tensioner pulley on serpentine belt failed at 40000 miles ($400)-maf sensor at 47000 miles (covered by recall)-catalytic converter failed 50000 miles (covered by emissions recall)-alternator failed at 55000 miles ($450 - using rebuilt alternator)-water pump failed at 60,000 miles ($350 repair bill).the question is...what's next?i plan to sell the car within the next few months.

Brake pads went callipers went and rotters went with brakes. Vw used the wrong callipers for the car. Ac went did not go cold. Starter went had to replace with new one that was the other. Paint staring chipping part of the cost was a key scratch. Engine light came on had to replace massive air flow meter.

Mass airflow sensor and coolant temperature switch failure at 47000 miles. Volkswagen of america stated car outside of 36 month emissions warranty.

Took car for routine oil change.was informed that there was a crack in the engine block and that the entire engine needs to be replaced.this was confirmed by a vw dealer, however, no one seems to know why the engine block would get a crack.in fact, the dealer told me that they had only ever seen this incident once before.my car had never overheated or anything prior to this.the car is now sitting in my garage because i cannot do anything with it.it cannot be sold and i can't afford $7100 for a new engine.in fact the car is not even worth that much.this is not the first problem that i have had with the car...there have been numerous other things (such as the check engine light/mass air flow sensor, fuel tank had to be replace twice, the trunk latch broke one day, the rear breaks had premature wear, glove box latch broke).these are poorly constructed vehicles.i wish i could get rid of it.

The contact owns a 2000 volkswagen jetta.the contact stated that the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel.the spark plugs were changed on the vehicle.she took the vehicle to the dealer and they noticed that the sixth valve was losing pressure.the manufacturer recommended that the engine be replaced.the contact feels that the manufacturer should replace the engine because it was a safety issue.the current mileage with the new engine was 2,000 and the failure mileage with the old engine was 188,000.updated 08/21/09. *ljdue to the cylinder 5 failure, the engine is burning excessive amounts of oil, emitting smoke from the tailpipe. The engine had already been replaced, but performing poorly. Updated 08/26/09.

Check engine light coming on intermittently and the car began to idle poorly and stall, becoming dangerous to drive.the car was checked for error codes and it was determined the mass air flow sensor had to be replaced.the car is just out of warranty and the service dept quoted over $400 to repair.spoke with an independent parts store, they said the same part is used in 4 cyl and 6 cyl 2000 jetta's, and vw is charging around $60 for the 4 cyl and well over $150 for the 6 cyl, for the same part.i have the 2000 6 cyl jetta and they would not sell me the part.

Both rear door panels vibrate--dealer unable to fix. Engine light illuminated--temp. Sensor replaced by dealer.problem re-occurred two days later--dealer replaced temp. Sensor. Air conditioner eminates musty smell--dealer says problem is due to a plugged drain hole in a/c unit--will no fix.rear passanger door leaks a thick, greasy substance.b-pillar trim vibrates on driver side.

My 2000 vw jetta was being driven today by my fiance on 295 south in rhode island.he noticed the coolant light come on, and solooked at the temp gauge and saw that it had not risen any higher than normal. After keeping an eye on the gauge for a few minutes, he noticed it suddenly drop to 0 and so he pulled over, figuring a hose had broken or something to that extent.when he exited the vehicle he noticed some black smoke coming out from under the hood, and the hood itself starting to bubble from the heat.the car itself burst into flames at that point and my fiance had to back away from it immediately for fear that it would explode. The car had recently been inspected and was working perfectly fine except for a small coolant leak up until today, so we have no idea what caused such a sudden combustion.no one was hurt, thankfully, but it was only a matter of minutes before the car went from operating normally to being completely engulfed in flames, so he could very well have been hurt or worse.the fire dept and state police arrived and secured the area, which included blocking traffic completely on the highway for fear of an explosion, and put out the fire.the car was completely burned beyond recognition.

The engine coolant system on the car has never been right.one month after purchase we brought the car into the dealer because the transmission shifted poorly when the car became hot.it would up shift and downshift for no reason.they told us there was nothing wrong.that this is how they shift.the transmission still shifts in this manner.then in october of 2000 the coolant warning light came on.we were told by the dealer that the coolant temperature sensor needed to be reset.they reset the sensor and on 10/27/2000, just two weeks later, the coolant warning light came on again.this time they replaced the coolant temperature sensor.then on 7/16/2001 the coolant warning light came on again and we needed to have the secondary water pump replaced.now on 8/9/01 the vehicle is at the dealer again because the coolant warning light came on.i am writing a letter to the manufacturer.any further advice or assistance you can give would be greatly appreciated.

The contact owns a 2000 volkswagen jetta.since the vehicle was purchased in april of 2008, it stalls and shuts down without warning.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis.the failure code was located at the gas throttle position sensor.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 107,000 and current mileage was 113,770.

I purchased a 2000 vplkswagen jetta in the year 2002, pre-owned.i have had nothing but problems with it since i bought it, and now am trading it in, and taking a $3000 loss.here is a list of the problems i have had in the last 2 years listed from first problems to most recent:1.window tray broke, window fell into the door. $3002.trunk latch broke, had to get replaced $503.sunroof broke, would not move and needed the entire thing replaced including the motor. $18004.water pump leaked out all coolant, needed to be replaced $ 6005.strut coil snaped in half while driving, needed to replace both sides $5006. Lastly, (this is the point when i decided to file a complaint and trade the car in for another brand) water leaking from the electrical panel on top of inside roof.sunroof then malfunctioned, opening when the car was started and the knob was not touched.had to pay to disconnect power sunroof.whatever you do, please, do not buy a vw jetta.that is unless you want to have it continually in the shop and having to spend a lot of money on repairs.

The coolant sensor was repaired but it failed again.

Since vehicle was purchased, there has been numerous problems and issues with the vehicle. The most troublesome and expensive is the cooling system. I have had 3 different repair shops look at it and "fix it" only to have the car do the same thing. The temperature gauge does not indicate that the car is overheating, however, it must be. I have been stranded multiple times (almost everyday in my commute to from work and school), after i sit in traffic over 20 minutes, out of nowhere the radiator cap blows off the cooling reservoir spilling the liquid all over the engine and causing the car to smoke. I have even burned had a second degree burn from having to pull over and opening the trunk so i can refill after it cools. Someone has yet to figure out what is wrong with the vehicle.the check engine light has been on for years, again only to have multiple people look at it, and not have the problem solved. I will crank the engine but the car will die out. But if i hit the speed control to set the speed it will stay on. The car will hesitate and i will start off slow then it will go at normal speed. Last but not least i have gotten pulled over 3 times in the last 3 weeks because the brake lights go out. I have replaced these brake lights all recently but they will burn out within days with out me knowing. It is horrible vehicle, i have spent a lot of money trying to get it repaired. Everytime it goes in the shop is for days i have to get a rental car everytime. Enough to say that the car rental people know me by name! my job and school are affected by this each and everytime. I suffer from anxiety every time i get in the car because i don't know what will happen next! it is stressful and ridiculous having to deal with this. Please help!

I purchased a 2000 vw jetta on 6/16/10. Two weeks after purchase, the vehicle began to have problems & since i have had the vehicle, it has had to have the following repairs: 2 fans, abs sensor would come on & lock up the wheels, so the system had to be unplugged, coolant system had to be replaced, a transmission replaced & a certified transmission specialist found it had been taken out prior & 4 cyl parts were used in a 6 cyl vehicle, & thermostat had to be replaced.the cost of repairs to date are approx. $5,200 & i only paid $4,995 for the vehicle.this vehicle is not safe and should not have been sold in the condition it was in.the seller failed to disclose that the vehicle had underlying problems after i inquired several times. The business should be held responsible for selling an unsafe vehicle and i wonder how many other vehicles the business has sold like this.i have this vehicle in for repairs more than i have been able to drive it & when i purchased it, the seller was aware i needed a reliable vehicle to get to the kidney transplant very quickly.

Enginecheck light came on. Car was 14 months old, but out of warranty by mileage.the dealer replaced the coolant sensor for $175.00!!now two months later the "check engine" light is on again.there appears to be water/coolant in the oil!now the car is about 16 months old.volkswagen of america refused to pay for the prior repair, and did not pay for the failed interior lights, either.

While driving our 2000 vw jetta the timing belt that is not supposed to be serviced until 105k snapped, destroying the engine and leaving the car paralyzed on the highway. All required maintenance was done at dealer for this car. It had 89k when the catastrophic failure occurred.

Check engine light came on one week ago. Had oxygen sensor replaced 3 days ago because that's what the diagnostics showed that it needed. Today the check engine light came on again and won't go away. Can't afford to spend money having mechanics "attempt" to fix this problem. I know it's a common vw jetta issue and i want something done about it!

Whenever driving engine would burn an excessive amount of oil. Have taken vehicle at least 2 times to dealership, and mechanic indicated that oil burning was perfectly normal for jetta. No repairs were done to correct problem.there was gel-likebuildup on the oil cap and dipstick due to antifreeze or moisture mounting within the engine.the consumer intends to pursue lemon law if defects were not corrected.

While driving and without warning the vehicle will shut off causing consumer to pull over. Dealer notified.ts the steering doesn't lock when the vehicle dies.the vehicle operates as if the cruise control is engaged. *jg

Purchased new jetta 1.8t from dealer in 8/00. Have taken it back several timesdue to check engine light and back firing w/slight hesitation on acceleration.they replaced air filter 8/01, 10/3/01 replaced defective sensor & valve, 2/02 couldn't find reason for continued backfiring, had oil change and reset light. Next couple of times the light came on they said to wait a couple of days --it did go off.5/03 they performed diag test and reset light. Said if came on again i'd need catalytic converter. 8/13 in shop again for check engine light this time diag test said they should replace the mass air flow sensor & wiring. Told me not under warranty even though the check engine light has been a consistent ongoing problem.will be calling vw customer care.

Consumer concerned with engine and wheel bearing issues. Wantsto know who is going to reimburse for repairs.oxygen sensor had to be replaced several times.the driver side inner door handle was difficult to operate.the left side axle shaft was replaced because it was making a whining noise.while driving the vehicle stalled.it was later determined that a small rodent had built a nest which clogged the air box.the vehicle stalled again and this time they replace the maf sensor.the cruise control was inoperative.

2000 vw jetta 1.8 turbo.check engine light came on around 35,000 miles, replaced mass air flow sensor for $99.00 after calling corporate vw.check engine light came on at 45,000 miles.replace mass air flow sensor again for free, replaced brake light switch, replaced turbo sensor and several relays for $280.00.replaced clutch at 51,000 miles, found out they use the same parts as the tdl on the turbo car.currently have a blown head gasket, more than likely due to the mass air flow sensor and turbo sensor causing issues with the engine.estimated repair costs $1200.00.

My 2000 volkswagen jetta needed a full replacement of the oil pan and gasket.there is no reason that this part should need to be replaced. Also at 121,000 miles the catalytic converter was replaced and volkswagen had it under extended warranty up to 120,000 and would not replace the part for me.there is no reason these parts should need replacement.the car has 129,500 miles on it, has been garaged, never been in an accident and has mostly highway miles on it.

Excessive engine oil consumption.he car consumed approximately 1 qt of oil per 1500 mi.taking into consideration this car had 8 miles when i lease it, and i drive under normal driving conditions this engine oil consumption, for me, is totally unreasonable.if i would not refill the engine oil between oil change intervals (5000 mi), the car would consume 74% of its total engine oil, easily burning its engine. At the dealer suggestion i ended up trading this car yet for another jetta, also consuming oil.

I have a 2000 jetta and its a good car but it has problems like other jetta owners that i have talked to. I have taken it to a shop and asked them about my problem and they told me it was a common problem with these kinds of jettas. The complaint is when i change the oil or have a good amout of oil in the engine it gets eaten at a quicker rate than it should. It takes like 2-3 days then i have to replace a quart of oil or more to make it a good level. The amount of oil being consumed is not good for the engine or for the evironment.

2000 vw tdi manual transmission with 65,000 miles.engine check light comes on, definite loss of power, worse when engine has been running for awhile.car has no acceleration and can not hold speed going up relatively minor hills.took it to the dealer who put it on the computer, said that the wastegate valve was stuck but was okay now.problem reoccured.definite safety problem on highway because there is no acceleration available to the driver.

While driving at 65 mph on a 2 lane undivided hi-way; engine cut out, without warning of any kind (1.9 litre diesel-2000 jetta) this obviously caused an unsafe situation. Vehicle would turn over but not start.dealer repaired by replacing power relay for engine control module (relay 109). Have researched this relay on various sites, and found dozens of failed relays, some in similar circumstances. Apparently, the original black relay fails, new relay is a change up (grey in colour).

I am experiencing a loss of power on hills and when trying to accelerate an intermitant check engine light appears. I own a vw jetta tdi 2000. The dealer diagnosed the problem 1st as a turbo control module, $252.00. Some increase in power but not very much, check engine light off. 2nd trip to dealer after an 1-1/2 hour discussion about charging me another diagnostic fee and my consenting the problem was diagnosed as carbon in intake and egr valve replacement. I asked 4 questions :how does carbon get in an air intake?, how did the technician determine this was problem?why wasn't it identified the 1st time i took car in and what guarantee would i get? the dealer would not or could not answer these questions and the customer service rep at vw america has not answered them but has offered to pay 100% parts and labor for the repair after two days of calling and trying to get an answer from both of them. Don, is the customer service rep who offered to pay for repair upon my going to another dealer and paying for another diagnostic to verify the problem, as the first dealer has refused service to the vehicle because i insisted on answers to my questions before ok'ing repair. The number i called for vw america is 1-800- 822-8987.i have about 81,000 miles on the car and this problem creates a serious saftey hazard on the interstate or any highway where a slow moving vehicle may be a hazard.

1)i purchased a vw tdiwith a diagnosis of a bad turbo and an intermittent check engine light. I had the car seven months and put 12,984 miles on it with no problems. I took the car to the dealer and had the car diagnosed as to why the c.e. Light was on.when asked about repairing the turbo by the counter man i told him i intend to drive it until it breaks then have it repaired.i asked him if there would be a problem doing that he explained to me the car would be sluggish then not run.vw diagnosed my car as having a "turbo waste gate blown" i deferred the repair intending to drive the car until the turbo went.2) on the way home, six miles from the dealership, the car ran slightly rough.i observed light smoke coming from my car in the head lights of the cars behind me.i deducted my car was burning carbon since carbon build up was noted on the report.i slightly depressed the accelerator and the car raced forward.i immediately removed my foot from the gas pedal and nothing happened.the car raced forward so quickly and with such force i would compare it to a muscle car being floored.the car kept accelerating.i looked at the tachometer and it was going by 4,000 rpm.this diesel engine was screaming.instinctively i depressed the clutch to regain control of the car.the engine revved then blew.i was 7 miles from the dealership.service manger stated that a gasket in the turbo let go causing the engine to suck oil from the crankcase fueling the engine.he told me that nothing could stop the engine from revving not even turning off the key.he told me that all diesel engines were made this way. There is nothing vw could do for me.i called vw customer service, level 2 operator told me since i was told about the turbo being broken there is nothing they can do.3) my car is sitting with a blown engine and a blown turbo.

This complaint concerns the2000 vw jetta tdi diesel.apparently, the egr system, in conjunction with the closed crankcase ventilation system, provides an opportunity for the crankcase oil vapors and soot from the egr to mix in the engine intake manifold.with time, the intake manifold becomes almost completely clogged with this oil/soot mixture, causing the engine to lose power and hamper such normal driving activities such as highway merging, passing, and emergency accident avoidance procedures due to loss of power.volkswagen usa, the manufacturer, in many cases refuses to acknowledge the safety issue in regards to this gradual and severe loss of power, resulting in owner paid service charges which may exceed $1000 dollars (in some cases).nowhere in any of the advertising or marketing literature of the vw tdi engines is a reference made to required periodic "intake cleanings" and it's inherent service costs.this vehicle is clearly not designed for safe and continued usage in the united states - people are going to get killed driving these things if vw doesn't acknowledge and repair this design defect, especially in high traffic areas.

Vw jetta tdi- the turbo hasn't been working. Apparently, this vehicle is equipped with a ccv (crankcase vent) system and an egr (exhaust gas recirculation) system. Oily fumes from the ccv system combine with carbon particles from the egr system to form a black sticky tar in the intake system. This eventually starts restricting the amount of airflow into the engine, resulting in gradual power loss as the vehicle ages and the intake clogging becomes worse. This is apparently preventable by adjusting the intake air volume of 370 mg/stroke using a computer to reprogram the egr. Replacing the manifold & egr is an expensive proposition that is not covered under the powertrain warranty.

2000 vw jetta tdi- turbo does not appear to work for past 6-8 months. This causes the car to slow down significantly on any hills, including on entrance ramps, when trying to accelerate on merge with traffic.dealership unable to diagnose, but has offered expensive repairs including replacing mass air flow sensor, some type of valve in the turbo, for example.also noted is the vehicle can intermittently provide some diesel boost- seems only when the gas tank is full.and the fuel filler neck interior door has broken off sometime in the past year. Is this related? is this safe? *la

The engine failed after leaking oil several times, consumer was informed that the replacement engines are also havig similiar problems.

Vehicle was leaking water coolant and vehicle was at dealership.mechanic replaced the engine and transmission twice.

I have been having trouble with oil consumption with my volkswagen, jetta 2000.i have followed all warranty scheduled checkups, and have taken care of teh car in accordance with the manufacturer specifications. Specifically, at one point, i discovered, between the warrranty checkups, that my car's, oil dip stick was absolutely dry.i reported this event to atamian volkswagen who told me that"2000 volkswagen are well known to consume oil".since then i have undergone oil consumption tests.it has been determined that my car consumes oil at a rate of 1 quart every 1500 miles.wv says that this complies with their specifications (the oil consumption rate is not stated in the owners manual).

The car consumes an outrageous 700-800 miles per quart of oil, which the manufacturer claims is normal due to engine design.my complaint is the fact that this was not even hinted to the user or is written in the user's manual at the time of the sales.this could cause engine damage for customer, or on long distance trip, be a safety hazard.

On 6/15/02 my check engine light came on.dealer diagnosed as p0411 vacuum hose leak and repaired.light came back on on 7/8/02.dealer diagosed a malfunctioning recirculating valve to turbo charger and repaired on 7/23/02.light came back on 7/24/02 and remained on until 9/6/02 when it went out by itself.light came back on 9/11/02 and remains on.i am very unhappy with this problem and wonder if the repairs i have had made were necessary.i would like this problem resolved.please relay to volkswagen of america my dissatisfaction with this warnng light problem.i also am not happy with the response i have received from green toyota.the service department claimed they were not familiar with this recurring check engine problem and even suggested i was low on fuel or had failed to tighten my gas cap.after reviewing the complaints on this web-site, i believe problem is relatively common, and the service department has an obligation to serve the customer more honestly. My 2000 vw jetta with 2.0 liter engine is suffering same fate as many others, excessive oil consumption. I followed maintenance instructions by having my first oil change / servicing at approx. 5000 miles. At 8190, oil light flashed and i stopped at a gas station...dipstick was dry. Added 2 full quarts of oil to bring back to normal. Vw has begun an oil consumption test on my car.

Turbo has been having problems since dec 2001 - volksw failed to diagnose problem correctly after $1100 worth of repairs.

Engine check light has come on three (3) different times.first time was oxygen sensor, 2nd time was a valve on the turbo, and the 3rd time was the mass air flow sensor.

02 sensor failure.

Engine check light came on, engine codes determine a faulty mass air flow sensor.

Consumerwas driving 23 mph, passing a combine, shifted to second gear andvehicle lost all power. Applied brakes and stopped passing process. Dealer replaced mass airflow sensor. Dealer had replaced numerous sensors.

I bought the car may of 2004 since then have had to replace o2 sensors 2 times. And is in the shop right now its been there for a week.there telling me that it was from maryland that the problem occurred in. Yet when i drive the car it dies. How did the guy get it here from maryland with it braking down all the time. I feel as if their trying to take advantage of me because they don't want to fix it for me and i'm a women so they think i know nothing about cars. This is affecting my life and work.

The check engine light illuminated due to the oxygen sensor failing. The consumer received a recall notice after the oxygen sensor was replaced. While the consumer was driving the vehicle could not accelerate properly due to mass air flow sensor failure. The consumer was asking the dealer to replace, repurchase or repair the vehicle.

My wife and i bought a 2000 jetta tdi with a defective mass air sensor, i have been told that engine oil vapor leaks down the air intake and creates a oil film over sensor which renders it inop.with it not working the car accelerates very slowly and has very little power.my mechanic said a replacement is $274.00 for this item and there is no guarantee it wont happen again after buying the new part.i find this problem unacceptable and figure the engineer that designed this part must have got a huge bonus for this recurring problem.

The o2 sensor failed. *mjs

Vehicle does not accelerate properly, and consistently, consumer continues to experience periodic thrusts or surges upon accelerating from a complete/rolling stop in first or second gear, despite several attempts by the dealer to repair the problem, dealer replaced the oxygen sensors and throttle valve.

Who would have thought that a 4 year old vehicle could fail emisions inspection?stohlman, the volkswagen dealership stated that the repair of the oxygen sensor was covered by warranty, but they still charged me for labor.i want to be reimbursed for the labor charge.

While driving engine light comes ondue to emission failure.dealership replaced the mass air flow sensor, but theproblem recurred. Currently, air injection pump was being replaced.

Failure of drivers side power window - first time, however i expected it to happen since i found 53 complaints on this web site alone. This isn't the first time to encounter major repairs on this car. Just 4 weeks ago paid 1,100 dollars to replace oil pump and mass airflow meter. Why isn't there a recall yet?

My car has 58,000 miles on it and like many others on this site it has suffered problem after problem with each one getting more serious. I have replaced a mass air flow sensor, glove box, turbo parts, and some plastic clips on the arm rest. But, when the air conditioner, fuel gauge started acting up, and the fact that this car has stalled on us three or more times recently (while out driving),then safety becomes an issue. The dealership could not fix the problem with the air conditioner coming and going or the stalling problem, as for the fuel gauge, we just fill up for every 280 miles put on the tripmeter.

Bought the used 2000 jetta in may 2004.a month later in the dealer because check engine light went on.they changed oxygen sensor.car started stalling/hesitating again and several weeks later in the dealer again.they changed the mass air flow sensor.continued to hesitate/stall and went into service again and they found nothing wrong.no codes are coming up showing there is something wrong.this car is going again on monday november 22, 2004 into dealer for the same problem.the problem has never been corrected and i can't believe i have such problems with this car that cannot be corrected.it only has 43,000 miles on the car and this is probably the reason it was traded in and has low miles.

The contact owns a 2000 volkswagen jetta. The contact stated that the vehicle would jerk abnormally with the illumination of the check engine warning lamp. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who advised that the mass flow air sensor failed. The contact had received notification of a voluntary manufacturers recall in regards to prior to the failure. The vehicle was repaired under the recall. Less than four years later, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was then contacted yet they offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.updated 07/20/11*lj the sensor light for the mass air flow replaced twice in december 2007 and again in june 2011. Updated07/25/11

Window regulator: failedcheck engine light: on

Oil burns excessively. As a result, catalytic converter malfunctioned, and wasreplaced twice within four months.

The contact owns a 2000 volkswagen jetta. The contact stated that the check engine light was illuminated the vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the failure as the catalytic converter and advised having it replaced. The manufacturer would not provide any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 82,000. The vin was not available.

Consumer called complaining about gas recirculation valve( egr valve). Vehicle won't accelerate even thoughshe wa s stepping all the way on the gas pedal. Dealer was contacted, and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. Had to replace brakes and rotors at 35000 miles, which she thought that it was not usually normal on any vehicle.

At 46,747 miles change-over-valve/intake manifold failed to operate properly. International auto body mechanic diagnose problem as requiring a new intake manifold. Vw of america fixed problem under power train warranty but changed valve not manifold. Valve failed again in 10 months but warranty has now expired and coverage has been refused. Warranty work performed did not resolve problem but served only to allow warranty to expire.

My sister was killed in a fire caused by a 2000 volkswagen jetta. She fell asleep with the car on. The car caught on fire and she was killed. The investigated are saying it was a failure of the exhaust system.

The contact owns a 2000 volkswagen jetta.while driving 2-60 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate when she depressed the accelerator pedal.the contact had to release then reapply the accelerator pedal.the repair shop stated that the egr cooler clogged the intake manifold.the intake manifold was cleared.the contact drove approximately twenty miles, and then noticed smoke coming from under the hood.the contact took the vehicle back to the repair shop and they stated that the egr leaked.the failure mileage was 87,000 and the current mileage was 92,000.

Both rear door panels vibrate--dealer unable to fix. Engine light illuminated--temp. Sensor replaced by dealer.problem re-occurred two days later--dealer replaced temp. Sensor. Passanger front window went down and wouldn't go up--dealer fixed.three months later, window went down again--dealer fixed. Air conditioner eminates musty smell--dealer says problem is due to a plugged drain hole in a/c unit--will no fix.rear passanger door leaks a thick, greasy substance.b-pillar trim vibrates on driver side.

A/c will not get cold.we tested the pressure and there is a leak.my car only has 29,000 miles and it is going to cost around $800 to fix the problem.

My front passenger side window made a loud noise and fell into the door when i tried to roll up the window nothing happened.i called volkswagenand they fixed it because my car was still under warranty. 18 months later it happened again and i called volkswagen and they told me since my car was no longer under warranty they would not fix it.i reminded them that this happened before and shoul not happen to the same window again in such a short period.the dearlership told me they only warrenty their work for one year and that they could not help me.so i called around and for quotes and was told by several companies that this was a common problem with jettas.i had to pay $300 to get it fixed. One month later it happens again only this time it happens to my driver side window.i call the dealership and they basically tell me tough luck.not only has this happened to me but it has happened to a friend of mine who also owns a jetta.lastly my ac goes outright after all my other problems.

The a/c malfunctioned due to a/c sensor failure.

2000 vw jetta glx. Air conditioner failed. Climate control reads no problems and freon levels check fine a/c cylinder produces high pitch squealing noise. Final diagnostic not complete for route source of problem.

While driving i heard a squealing noise coming from my a/c. Turned fan off and squealing stopped. Turned fan back on and squealing started again then something feel off my car and the a/c would not blow cold air.just got back from firestone and they said that i need a new a/c clutch and compressor and it would cost $864.30. My car is not old enough and does not have enough miles for the clutch to fail and to need a new compressor.

Air conditioner blower failed.

Replaced rear brake light 4 times; emergency flasher & turn signals fail to work randomly. Twice had rear brake pads replaced; rotors turned second time -- total cost $550. Repeated sensor failures -- knock sensor, mass air flow sensor, coolant temperature sensor; induction coil failure & vehicle imbolized. Driver mirror repaired twice; passenger p/window stuck down; driver window lock twice; seat belt cracked

Factory installed cd player skips constantly -- chronic problem.

The speaker cover mounted on the door was broken.

Consumer states radio failed.

Jack failed and caused damage to drivers side skirt. The jack punched through the metal.

Jack supplied with vehicle would not hold vehicle up and slipped out damaging body of the vehicle. Car is a 2000 vw jetta. Had to call tow truck and was advised by tow truck driver that vw jack's were useless unless you had a perfectly flat surface.

Car was being towed on a flat bed tow truck. The vehicle was secured by 2 front hooks/strap which were attached to a winch. The rear was secured by a strap attached to the rear tow loop on my vehicle. As the tow truck was moving at about 10 mph, the tow loop broke (in about 3 spots)( the loop is rolled steel, not the solid forged peice utilized on other vehicles). The resulting crack/breakage resulted in the vehicle rolling forward, dropping the 2 other hooks and nearly rolling back off of the tow truck. This all happened at less than 15 mph. Imagine if it had been at 60 mph!!!!!. If this happened to my car, it will happen to others. The loop is too weak to serve its function of being able to secure the vehicle.

Exterior lighting defects still on when engenee is off.

The contact owns a 2000 volkswagen jetta. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the hazard lights did not function and the bulbs blew out. In addition, there was a clicking sound present inside of the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number 04v584000 (exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch), but the vehicle was previously repaired. The vehicle was not repaired a second time. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Water pump and back housing the coolant system

Reverse lights stay on and cannot be fixed betw. 2 dealers who in total have worked over 32 hours of labor with out resolution.

I would like to report yet another failure of the safety/signalling light system on my 2000 volkswagen jetta.recently, my reverse lights ceased to function, reducing visibility when backing up at night and failing to signal other drivers that i was backing up.i attempted to correct this problem myself by checking the bulb and fuse.both of these "wear and tear" items were fine.i then took my car to the dealer who informed me that the "reverse light switch" had to be replaced.dealer replaced the switch for about $100 and the problem is now corrected.i have recently taken part in the recall campaigns for the brake light switch and hazard light switch on this car, and i stongly feel that there is a comprehensive problem with the safety/signaling light electronic system on this car.

Vw jettas.common problem is that the brake lights stop working without warning.owners are unaware of this.this is dangerous.2000 and newer years.you should make them issue a safety recall.

Problems with vehicle's brake lights. *mr on three occasions, the window regulator clips were replaced.currently the brake light switch needed to be replaced for a third time. *sc

No event leading up to the failure.i did not receive notification of any recalls relating to my brake light switch. Brake light switch no longer functions reliably on '00 jetta with 70,000+ miles; car does not shift out of park until brake pedal is pressed repeatedly and then only works inconsistently, cruise control system is inoperable- there is an apparent malfunction with brake light switch and relates to descriptions of recalls on 99-02 jetta / new beetles.i called vw regarding open recalls for brake light switch defects and i was told my vin was not subject to any recalls.will follow up with local dealer who will repair the problem- i have been advised by nhtsa customer service to retain my receipts and documentation for matters relating to this issue as it seems to relate to recalls: 03v-265 or 04v-096 and vw recall no. N4.

Rear brake lights come on and stay on after vehicle parked and no keys in ignition causing battery to drain.purchase new battery within 2 days new battery dead.noticed brake lights were staying on when car parked.there is recall nhtsa id #04v096000 for 2000 vw jetta's for the same problem, but i am told it doesn't apply to this vehicle even though the problem is identical.

The vehicle was slightly over a year old when the brake light started to illuminate.the consumer had the brakes replaced. Recall# 04v096000. *sc

In reference to the following recall:nhtsa campaign id number : 04v096000 one additional problem should be noted.i have a 2000 vw jetta with an automatic transmission and when the brake light switch fails, as it did on my car at the end of last year, the shifter cannot be moved out of the park position.this effectively leaves the vehicle immobilized and the owner needing a tow.i think that all owners who have had this defective switch replaced should be reimbursed for the switch repair and towing if applicable.thank you for your attention to this issue.dan eliades.

The consumer states the recall for the brake light switch has been repaired, however the problem still exists.

Dt:the contacthad recall 04v096000 repairson brake lights completed over a year ago, and now the failure recurred. The repairs were made at the contact'sexpense. The dealer and manufacturer offered no free remedy.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle's brake lights comes on randomly. The vehicle does not have to be running for this to happen. There is a nhtsa recall, # 04v096000 regarding the brake light switch. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the vin.

In 2004, my 2000 vw jetta's break lights failed to turn off.when i took the car in for service, the dealer replaced a switch.several months later, vw were issued a recall on vehicle to replace the brake light switch which would either fail to turn off or fail to turn the break lights on.vw refunded the amount i had paid to repair my vehicle.on september 16, 2005, a driver notified me after a near miss at an intersection that my break lights were failing to light.i brought my car to the dealership and they claimed that the switch had failed, but said that it was not covered under the original recall because the switch had already been replaced. The recall repair work did not repair my vehicle.the break light switch failed after the recall repair was made.

Brake light switch malfunctioned, caused car to lock in park, and brake lights became inoperative.

The brake light switch on my jetta 2000 vehicle malfunction.when this happens the automatic shift lock (asl) locks when park or neutral.cause traffic jam.after 30 minutes the swith started working temporarily.it happen 3 times in the last 2 days

When turn signal and/or hazard warning signals are used and left in the "on" position, the rate and which the signal lights blink gradually "slows".after the signals are left on for about 2 minutes, the signal lights cease to "blink" and eventually "freeze" and are constantly lit.if car were to become disabled, the hazard warning lights will work for about 1 or 2 minutes, and thereafter remain constantly lit, thus rendering them useless to warn approaching motorists of a disabled vehicle. The dealer replaced the hazaed switch to correct the problem.

When driving down a hill headlamps do not illuminate far enough ahead to see a person in the road. There is a distinct line at eye level and above that is not illuminated, making it impossible to see up the other side of the hill. This seems to be a design flaw and was not noticed until after i bought the car since i did not have the oppurtunity to test drive the car after dark. I have contacted consumer relations several times, and was told the car meets safety standards. I feel this problem holds the distinct possiblity of causing an accident in the future.

Headlight sockets have melted 3 times.twice on the right headlight and once on the left.was told by dealer that it was because i used napa aftermarket headlights.about a year ago i replaced the right socket and headlight with parts provided by vw dealer.it still melted.it looks like the connectors in the socket are not sized to handle the current and heat up until the plastic around them melts.

Each electrical problem was annoying for a brand new car but they were fixed.my concern is the oil burning for no apparent reason.no one at the dealership took me seriously until i threatened them with legal action but my car is still burning oil.i can't seem to make anyone understand that a car only one year old should not consume oil like this car is doing now.twice i have been stranded with my 9 month old son in the cold weather because the red warning light for low oil has come on and both times i had no oil in the engine.there is obviuosly something wrong with this car but the dealer keeps telling me that their mechanics say there is nothing wrong.

Both headlight plugs melted. Dealer notified.

While driving at nightheadlights stop working. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealer has to replaceheadlight switch.

Turn signals made a buzzing sound, dealer said they were fine however they went out completely. *mjs

Turn signal on many volkswagen models across many late 90's and early millennium models (including my 2000 jetta vr6) are failing at an alarming rate. It seems to be a shared relay/flasher with the hazard system or the hazard switch (button) itself.*la

The turn signal switch malfunctioned and was replaced.

The turn signal/cruis control handle fell off, preventing the operator from signaling an intent to turn. The handle was not damaged in any way to cause it to fall off other thannormal use. The handle is dangling by its wires to the cruise control and the operator is unable to signal an intent to turn.

Problems with acceleration on my 2000 vw tdi which have become increasingly hazardous.vehicle accelerates when it chooses to do so. Condition is ongoing. Will not speed up off exit ramps nor when going uphill.source of road rage at this point.brakes (rear) disintegrated before reaching 40,000 miles.not pleased with this car's performance and it appears to be due to a manufacturing defect.spoke with someone else having the same model and year who had the same symptoms.reportedly it is some sort of air flow defect.want to know if this is covered under the manufacturers warranty and why there has not been a recall.

*la

2000 vw jetta belonging to my friend [xxx], quit running in heavy traffic.she coasted out of the way and had other drivers help push it to a nearby parking lot.on investigating the problem, it was found that a switch in the driver's door failed, shutting off the fuel pump. The door switch normally turns on the fuel pump when the door is opened and if the car is started without opening the driver's door the "immobilizer" security system shuts off the fuel pump.the switch failed while [xxx] drove home from work and fuel was shut off turning off the engine.[xxx] and the people that helped push the car were endangered by having to get out of their cars in the heavy traffic.car designs need to be reviewed for fault tolerance so that minor components like door switches don't cause the car engine to stop.also if the car were hit in the door, it would open the switch causing fuel pump to turn on possibly feeding large quantities of gasoline under a damaged car.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

While backing out of a driveway vehicle suddenly shutdown, and began to coast backwards into a ditch. Consumer got out ofvehicle and noticed that allfuel had began to leak fromfuel line inrear. Dealer has been contacted.

2000 vw jetta - same exact problem as with the 2000 vw golf fuel system.car suddenly stopped running and wouldn't start.car was leaking a significant amount of gas.i had already replaced the fuel pump last year (2004) and this time had to replace the entire fuel line.i was told it was a very dangerous situation by the dealer because it could've caused a fire or explosion.dealer used new parts to replace fuel line.

While driving vehicle stalled.the consumer was unable to restart vehicle, however the consumer noticed that liquid was leaking from underneath the vehicle.consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the plastic hose and other parts needed to be replaced.the fuel hose had come loose while the vehicle was in motion. *sc

While driving about 20 mph on the highway vehicle began to stall. After driving foranother 5 miles, vehicle died completely and would not restart.dealer was aware of the problem.fuel filter was changed, and condtioner added to the fuel. Also, the vehicle had to be towed. The temperature was six degrees whenthe problem happened.the vehicle had to be towed in order to thaw out.

Help!

Volkswagen 2000 jetta uncommanded acceleration while driving. Car has no cruise control yet car accelerates on its own to the point the car has to be braked hard.

While driving engine light comes ondue to emission failure.dealership replaced the mass air flow sensor, but theproblem recurred. Currently, air injection pump was being replaced.

I complained to the dealership about smelling gasoline, temperature light, and engine light kept coming on.they told me a valve on the filler tube of the gas tank was broken and i would need to replace the gas tank.they told me there was a leak in the antifreeze system and a "flange" would need to be replaced. *nlm

My vehicle was repaired for fuel issues at an authorized vw dealership.since experiencing the problem, a new volkswagen dealership has been involved primarily because of the distance of the tow.the original dealership who made the fuel repairs is currently uncooperative.

Fuel filler neck obstructed with nozzle flap retainer. Replacement assembly order had to be returned to manufacturer due to defect (per information provided by dealer service dept. Rep.)

Part/parts broke in the fuel tank filler neck that prevents fuel from being pump in. Funnel maybe used but gasoline may overflow and spill.

The fuel line on my 2000 volkswagen jetta recenty burst, making a sound like a balloon popping and leaking several gallons gasoline in the ten minutes it took me to get to a service station for an emergency repair. The mechanic who removed the fuel line (which i kept) showed me two small splits, but he was uncertain about what caused the damage. The jetta's fuel line runs in a shallow channel under the car, but i was on a smooth, paved street at the time of the failure and don't recall hitting a pothole or anything else that might explain the damage. Two thoughts: despite being in a channel, clearance on the jetta is low and the fuel line is rather exposed, so it might have been scraped or damaged at some other time...perhaps by road debris or driving over a speed bump or pothole. The only other logical explanation would be a defective fuel line. If the former, then vw should consider a recall to relocate the fuel line in this model or install some type of shielding. If the latter, then vw should replace and upgrade the fuel line in this model. (my car has only 25,674 miles on the clock and i keep it well maintained, so it would hard to put the failure down to normal wear and tear.) given the potentially catastrophic results of fuel-line failures, i felt it was important to bring this incident to the nhtsa's attention. Many thanks.

Vw jetta tdi 1.9 litter diesel has extremely poor fuel mileage. Advertised is to get 50 mi/gallon. I get at best 40 mi/gallon highway and as low as 25 mi/gallon mixed highway/city. Dealer avoids the issue by saying low milage is due to bad fuel, extreme cold, poor driving habits.

I have called vw customer care several time to take care of this problem. They make over $300.00 for every bad sensor. In doing my homework on this problem, a part dealer over the internet told me they sell 30 maf sensors a week. Please look into this problem. It needs to be a recall. Dt

Vehiclecompletely stalls for several seconds sporadically whenever the fuel guage reads 3/8 or less.both my vw car do the exact same thing.it is common knowledge this occurs with most vw cars.extremely unsafe and should be recalled.

2000 volkswagen jetta gls vr6 automatically locks after unlocking it with the keyless entry remote.it happens intermittently but over the past few weeks the occurrences are becoming a lot closer.i was seating my two children when this happened luckily my key was in hand when the doors locked.i feel this is something vw corp should look into as i've seen several more postings as time has progressed.

My 2000 jetta is locking and arming automatically. Recently, i opened my passenger door (driver's side) and put my 3 month old baby in her car seat.when i shut the door and reached to open the driver's door the doors locked and armed. Thankfully i had my keys in my hand and was able to quickly unlock and get into my car, but i shudder to think what could have happened to my child if it had been a hot summer day and i couldn't get into my car quickly enough. This has happened several times (intermittently) within the last two months. When i contacted my local dealerships service department i was told that the problem is a faulty door latch and that this is a common problem with vw cars. This was upsetting not only because my child could have been hurt, but because i had just replaced another door latch just prior to the birth of my child.i?m not sure why the service department didn't check the other door latches at that time, but i think that should be standard practice as these can become dangerous if unfixed. Until i can afford the $400 to fix the door latch (or buy a new car at this point) i no longer lock my doors or use my remote in order to prevent this from happening again. However, even if service department replaces my door latch i am not confident that this will not happen again.in talking to people who have serviced vw cars i have learned that this is a recurring problem.i understand that car parts stop working at some point; however what they should not do is turn the car into potential death trap.it is frightening to think that my child could become trapped in my car because of this problem. I also don?t feel that simply replacing the door latch with another possible faulty door latch will fix this problem or restore my confidence as a vw driver. As a parent i want to feel secure that the car i drive will be safe for my family. I feel that this issue requires further attention from vw and the us department of transportation.

A wax melted out of the doors of the car, then a few days later the right passenger window made a screaching noise then dropped down into the door while electrically rolling it up.all other windows are making the same noise so i can't use them in fear i they too will fall down into the door. Sun roof cover came off the track while shutting it.the lever that you push to open the arm rest popped off while opening it.the drink holder first kept sticking inside the consul, then it slowly broke apart.the dealership is going to charge me hundreds of dollars to fix these things that shouldn't have broke in the first place.my warranty expired after only 24000 miles.my coolant (water) pump just broke last week, but they fixed it because it was covered under the powertrain warranty.that shouldn't have needed repair either.i'm in need of help and i don't like the way this dealership is treating me.this car is an expensive piece of junk.i'm waiting for the next problem to happen.thanks for your help!

Power door locks lock on their own after car reaches a certain speed. It happens quickly, and if arms or fingers are nearby, the skin gets pulled into lock hole. It's very painful, like a very strong pinch or shock. Happens very frequently and causes bleeding occasionally. Ph*nlm**dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**767679

Trunk will not latch properly.

Consumer states trunk will not latch correctly. Dealer had been contacted.

Brake sensor failed. Epc light activated and car failed to shift from park. Mechanical brake on transmission failed to recognize brake was depressed. Faulty sensor requred to be replaced.

The car transmission stalled about 4 times. Each time (4 time) i took the car to the vw dealership and they could not identify the problem. Then the car broke down. I took it back to the vw dealership then the dealership identified it as a transmission problem. The cost to repair the car is $4000. Also, no other dealership or auto repair shop has serviced this car except miller vw.

While driving 45 to 50 mph and with no prior warning vehicle lost speed to around 20 mph.contacted dealer.the dealer replaced the transmission twice but the consumer thinks the cause of the problem was not the transmission.

At 35mph w/automatic transmission on glx model, make a vibrating noise that dissapears at higher speed. Automatic transmission replaced, but noise started again in a short time. Factory has not emitted a notification yet.

While driving about 70 mph transmission shifted down to 20 mph. Then, consumer had to pull to the side of road, and turn off engine. Then, itrestarted andworked again . Thiscausedroad rage due todecelerationof transmission.

In oct 2000 my car overheated, i reported this to vw and they made some adjustments, i also reported a noise from the left front like a whining noise, this was attributed to a failure in the transmission, vw did repairs to ring and pinion gears and differential bearings, noise subsided for a few weeks.the warning: check coolant light came on again several months later, reported problem to vwand i was instructed to add water to raise coolant level.in sept. 2001, i reported air conditioning failure, vw determined cooling system had problem, replaced coolant fan and secondary water pump, i also reported return of whining noise.car has now been at vw in glendale, ca since 10/2/2001, dealer has replaced left front axel and drive shaft, still whining, replaced transmission.i picked up car, drove 5 miles and car slipped out of gear and now does not run.returned via tow truck to vw dealer in glendale, ca.vw replacing value box on 10/9/2001technician said "in my opinion this will not elevate problem"car now has intermitant problem with staying in gear.technician also reported that vw jettas glx with vr6 engine have transmission problems and dealer has replaced up to 4 transmissions in one car in several cases.vw dealer and vw of america customer relations department have been notified.

Consumer stated that whiledriving on the highway, the vehicle began to vibrate.he had to pull to the side of the road and hadthe vehicle towed. The consumer was told by the mechanic that the transmission mountsbroke and caused the engine todrop down.consumer stated that the vehicle was fairly new and had only 42,182 miles on it, and this should not have happened.*sc

This vehicle has has numerous failures in different things.right know it has had 3 new transmission in 18 months, this last one is failing again.

Second questionnaire completed, see odi id #737218... No response or action to date 02/12/2000. No safety defect mentioned in summary.

Two transmission mount bolts have snapped off & been replaced to date, reason unknown?

Transmission is making a funny noise and leaking.

All my transmission mount bolts have failed.the right mount bolts failure was noted when having my timing belt replaced at 60k.the front mount bolts were noted just prior to that when i heard noses that sounded like my clutch was failing.in this case the front bolt had been broken.the left side failure just occured, leading to my engine to drop out as i was moving.the result of one broken bolt and one dethreaded bolt, i'm not sure what order this happened.i am lucky that i was not killed as i was going slow when it happened.

This is a brand new car.a person should not be expected to accept whatever problems. Dealer wishes to deliver.a person purchases a new car so that they won't have these kind of problems.i find it unacceptable that my new car has already needed a new rear window and now a new transmission.my family are past volkswagon owners and i had convinced two of my friends to by new jettas.i expect a new car...because i am paying for one!

After coming to a stop at a light and applying the accelerator, vehicle would not move. This was due to a faulty transmission. Dealer has vehicle now.

Vehicle locked up when put itto gear. Dealer contacted.

While driving could hear noise coming frombottom of vehicle.took vehicle to dealer where they replaced transmission. Then again the, reverse was not working at this time, and two transmissions had been replaced.

Consumerwas driving 23 mph, passing a combine, shifted to second gear andvehicle lost all power. Applied brakes and stopped passing process. Dealer replaced mass airflow sensor. Dealer had replaced numerous sensors.

Vehicle was leaking water coolant and vehicle was at dealership.mechanic replaced the engine and transmission twice.

Brake sensor failed. Epc light activated and car failed to shift from park. Mechanical brake on transmission failed to recognize brake was depressed. Faulty sensor requred to be replaced.

Clutch problems on jetta 2000.clutch failed on me why driving on the fl turnpike on saturday 14, 2006.i was at the toll plaza and when i left my car went into gear as normal, when i put it in 4th gear i heard the engine rev high but my car began to slow down.i coasted off the first exit i saw and luckily, kept coasting right into an apartment complex. I called the dealership i bought the car from and they sent out a tow company to pick my car up. On monday, may 15, 2006 i received a phone call from esserman international and i was told by the service dept that i had somehow activated the anti-theft on my car and they had disabled it and it was fixed.when i went to pick up my car, i was told that my car was not safe to drive because when they took my car to get washed the clutch failed again.i was told it was either the transmission or the clutch.turns out they are charging me 1800 dollars because the clutch needs to replaced, which is not covered under their warranty.

After a 60 mile highway trip, the clutch went to the floor and had to be manually returned to home position. I was able to get the car out of gear, but unable to put it in gear. I noticed the clutch pedal height was lower than the brake so i pulled the clutch pedal back out with my foot. After that, the clutch behaved relatively normally though a little soft. The problem happened again on my return trip 9/3/01. The clutch performs acceptably during normal city driving.

I have a 2000 vw jetta tdi that i purchased new.the clutch started slipping and had to be replaced at 51,203 miles.according to tom sapelak, the service manager at the vw dealer, there is a rubber piece (mass dampener?) between the two plates of the flywheel.on my flywheel, this piece had 2.5" of movement, but the specs indicated that it should only move .1 mm.even though the owners manual indicates that the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty for this vehicle was supposed to cover the flywheel, i was told that this failure was not covered under warranty.i had to pay $1381.08 for a new clutch kit (clutch, flywheel, clutch release bearing) and the labor to replace it.i do not belive that this failure could have been caused by driving habits.i had a 1985 vw golf diesel that had over 130,000 miles when i sold it, and i never had any problems with the clutch in that vehicle.my husband had a 1996 vw jetta turbodiesel that had over 238,000 miles on it when we sold it, and we never had any problems with the clutch in that vehicle either.my husband and i are the only people that drive my car and we are not "hard" on clutches.

The entire clutch assembly in my 2000 jetta 2.0l needed to be replaced after 2 years of owning the new vehicle at 17,000 miles.it was replaced but i had to pay the dealer $1,700.00was not covered under warranty because dealer said it was abuse and it was aware item.today at 24,000 miles the clutch assembly blew out again and i still have not herd from the dealer.

2000 volkswagen jetta vr6 was in the shop for new tires around 12/7 - an alignment test was performed. The car had about 65000 miles.it was purchased as a certified used vehicle at about 20000 from volkswagen and was recently out of warranty.nothing unusual arose during this work.the car behaved normally driving home, as it had for years prior.one day later, the clutch on the vehicle failed suddenly. Fortunately, the failure was first noticed backing out of a driveway and there was no hazard. The car was just barely drivable, and limped to the shop. I was told by the mechanic that the part should have lasted for at least 100k miles, and that the clutch parts "fell apart in pieces" on opening the clutch. He described it as a dangerous, potentially catastrophic, failure.cost to repair was $900. Did not take the car to vw because of the very high cost of post-warranty repairs.my wife and i (sole drivers) both have long experience driving stick shift vehicles and have never experienced clutch failures on prior stick shift vehicles.i have previously had the clutch go out about the same time on a '95 jetta iii gls.i suspect the part is of poor quality.

When shifting from 1st into 2nd gear, transmission grinds, 1st,2nd,& 3rd gear sincro's have been replaced w/ only 5000 miles on new car.still shifts hard into 2nd gear & sometimes will not shift at all into 2nd gear.apperantly volkswagen is now saying that synthetic transmition fluid is going to fix the problem.dash indicator lights will sometimes go bright and then dim, makes it hard to see insturment panel at night

First failure while getting on freeway. Dealer service had car for 38 days, 2 or 3 rebuild attempts before telling me a new transmission was installed. Problem was in reverse gear, said output shaft was bent. Two months later the transmission suffered another failure of the same type while on vacation in san fransisco. Dealer is telling me user abuse, i know of 6 other 1999 and 2000 jetta's that have had manule transmission failures

The transmission grinds from 1st to 2nd gear on a non-repeatable random basis.*la

When shifting into second gear, there was a grinding noise, dealer replaced syncro gear, consumer picked up vehicle and fifth gear slipped twice, second, third, and reverse were grinding, dealer now stated that the shifting alignment was off, causing the gears to grind, vehicle has not been remedied.

This manual transmission from day one has had clear troubles engaging into reverse without engaging reverse first, also has problems shifting between 1st & 2nd gears in higher rpm ranges 3500 rpm and above...always grinds while shifting.

Second transmission failure for this car, unsure if the dealer in fact replaced origional. Also have noticed speedometer making a clicking sound at all speeds

My first and second gears have been sporadically grinding ever since i bought the car.three times they refused to fix it because they haven't heard it. Fourth time they heard it, but wouldn't fix it because they didn't hear it when i returned for the service.*mr

Transmission grinds when shifting from 1st to 2nd gears.the problem is neither speed or rpm dependent.

Went to buckle up and heard a noise. Loss at tension on seat belt.

Replaced rear brake light 4 times; emergency flasher & turn signals fail to work randomly. Twice had rear brake pads replaced; rotors turned second time -- total cost $550. Repeated sensor failures -- knock sensor, mass air flow sensor, coolant temperature sensor; induction coil failure & vehicle imbolized. Driver mirror repaired twice; passenger p/window stuck down; driver window lock twice; seat belt cracked

Seat belt equipment did not work properly during an accident.*mr the air bags failed to deploy when the consumers vehicle was hit on the right passenger side.*ph

Rt rear and left rear windows have pinch protection that activate sometimes when there is nothing in the window bloking it and i have to pushthe button 3 times to close it and after the second time the pinch protection turns off. ...(2) the rt front seat belt will not pull down all the time it feels like it is locked in the positionyou must pull hard several times to get it to work and most of the time it won't come down at all.drivers side works fine, but pass side does not work at all sometimes. Took to dealer and it didn't happen to te service worker but the service advisor could not get it to pull down, service worker took apart and found nothing wrong, but it did not workfor me that night i got it home.

While driving 55 mph vehicle had a frontal impact with a stalledvehicle, anddriver's/passenger's airbags did not deploy, which did not protect the occupant in this crash.also, the seatbelt did not retract, causing driver tofly into the steering wheel and sustain injuries. Dealer did inspect the vehicle, and determined no problem with airbag system and seatbelt.

Entered my 2000 vw jetta gls, went to put the seat belt on and the seat belt was broken.the seat belt does not retract.this was working fine when i had entered the vehicle 30 minutes before on the same day.in reading the manual for my vehicle it stated that this is a three-point safety belt and that they are equipped with belt tensioners.sensors activate the belt tensioners in frontal collisions.this tensioner can only be activated once and then needs to be replaced.my vehicle has never been involved in an accident by me or according to the carfax report.unless it wasn't reported.this has not been replaced as it will cost $300 to replace this part.only authorized dealerships can replace this as it cannot be repaired without using special procedures that are required.this car is too new to be having a problem with an important safety device.

Seatbelt would not release tension; 6 year old daughter was sitting in the front passenger seat and was trapped in the seatbelt. My husband attempted to pull the seatbelt to get release the tension but it was unsuccessful. This action just made the seatbelt tighter. The seatbelt had to finally be cut off of my daughter. Mr

Hi,it seems as if many 2000+ vw jettas have defective rear center seat belts. When you fold down the rear seats, the center seat belts will retract in such a way that it isimpossible to move the seat back to the upright position without disconnecting the seat belt. Many people, myself included, just permanently disconnect the center seat belt to avoid such problems. I have experienced several other recalls that seemed less dangerous than this problem could potentially be with 5 people in the car. Could you investigate how frequent this safety issue occurs and possibly initiate a recall?i had this fixed once before, but apparently the fix didn't last.thanks, neil kumpers.

Heat seat control at 5 only available. After a number of times started burning seats. Leather is melted. No longer use.

Consumer noticed broken springs under driver's and passenger's seats. As a result, was unable to raise passenger's seat.

Drivers side seat cradle failed.

Driver's seat has defective rollers, causing seat to move back and forth. Consumer has been waiting 3 months for new rollers to come into dealer. Inmeantime, consumer is driving vehicle with and unsafe seat.

Had the car cleaned and when i got the car back the seat adjustment would no longer work. It hasn't worked since. The seat slides forward and back at will.

Driver side seat frame has fractured for second time, first time replaced under warranty. Contacted manufacturer, and they refused to address this recurring problem. I am concerned as to what would occur should the intact seat frame parts fail. *ph**dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**768030

The driver side seat no longer stays in a locked position, and the seat moves freely, sliding from back to front, making control over the vehicle's pedal very difficult and driving hazardous. After inspecting underneath the seat, a large coiled piece of metal was found lying on the carpet. This piece of metal matches exactly another piece of metal that fell out from the bottom of the passenger seat over six years ago. I contacted the dealer, (fresno michael audi vw) to have them replace the part back into the seat so that the seat no longer moved freely and the service manager refused to carry out any such work on my vehicle. After speaking with two other employees of michael automotive and getting the same refusals each time, i abandoned the attempt to solicit their help in repairing my vehicle.

I own a 2000 vw jetta.my son and i were heading home after a college visit, he turned on his seat heater and began to nap.20 minutes later, he popped up rubbing his shoulder, the seat heater caused the seat to catch fire and burned a portion of the seat, his shirt and shoulder. I called the dealer and was told they've never heard of that issue and that there has never been a recall for such an issue.i then did an internet search and found where it's a very common issue.

There is a spring under the driver's side seat of my 2000 vw jetta that has become detatched and fallen off.when you accelerate or brake, the seat shifts backwards or forwards.when i took the car to the local vw dealer for service, the technician, without hesitation, said that vw does not replace the spring, but has to replace the entire seat at a cost of $500+ dollars.his rapid response leads me to believe that this is a widespread problem with vws.i think it is an unsafe condition.

Driving car, using seat heater, started smelling burning smell. When i was able to stop, the leather seat had burned.i am not sure what would have occurred if i had not turned the seat heater off when i did (fire, burn me).went to dealer today, they said that there was no recall for my vehicle and i would have to repair myself.i feel this is a safety issue, not a wear and tear issue and vw of america should replace/repair at their cost.

(2) the seat warmer on the driver's seat failed and burned through the seat covering. The heater left a burn on my pants the size of a dime. This also caused me some discomfort.(3) i contacted vw of america and they instructed me that i would have to bring the car in and have it fixed at my expense.i own a 2000 vw jetta.

I started noticing a burning smell in the car when i turned on the heated seats and the drivers side seat would get very hot, even when set on a low setting. One day i decided to try it out to see if it was working properly or not and the heat burnt holes through the material covering the seat .

For two days, i smelled an odor such as a starched iron in my car. I turned the heated seats of for a few days. Today i turned it back on and the smell came back. I took my jacket off and in one part of the seat, my back was burning. The drivers heated seat in my 2000 volkswagen jetta burned through into the exterior. The heated seat caused two holes in my seat and a large brown burnt stain. If i had not discovered this, there is a possibility it would create much more damage.

Passenger's side seat heater had a cigarette size burn hole in it. While driving consumer smelled a burning odor, which became stronger as time progressed. Also, smokecame from the seat. When heater was turned off the smell and the smoke ceased. Vehicle was taken at the dealership.*la

2000 jetta - vin [xxx]when replacing my brake disc pads i noted that the front discs pads are in show room quantity.it appears that only the rear brakes are working.to have 40000 miles on a car and have virtually no wear on the front disc pads gives me cause for concern.what is the brake design basis for the 2000 jetta?is the operation of only the rear brakes a safety concern?can the 2000 jetta meet the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) standards for allowable stopping distance with only rear disc brake operation?vw international responded by phone call noting that they were not concerned if the front wheel brakes were not working.our family purchased two 2000 jetta's at the same time.the second jettahad the rear brakes replaced at 30000 miles at dealer cost.they called it premature wear.also at 40000 miles the second jetta front brakes had to be replaced.the dealer called this normal wear.

While driving and lightly brushing the brake pedal to begin slowing, the brake pedal automatically engages fully, slamming on brakes unexpectedly.immediately followed by a sound of air pressure being released.if you press the brake pedal after the air is released, the pedal will return to rest and the brakes will free up.no existing dealer recalls and vw (and vw service departments) have no record of this being a common problem.my local vw specialty repair shop says this is common on 2000 jetta tdi's.this is a significant safety issue.if you experience a similar issue, please report it!there are three other issues posted that appear to be related: 10116640, 10139585, 10052281.

Brake pads went callipers went and rotters went with brakes. Vw used the wrong callipers for the car. Ac went did not go cold. Starter went had to replace with new one that was the other. Paint staring chipping part of the cost was a key scratch. Engine light came on had to replace massive air flow meter.

Module controlling abs brakes- switch failed, causing rear brake lights and abs to stop functioning. Normal lights (not brake lights) continued to function. Bulbs (include brake lights) were fine. Brakes worked (no abs) but no one behind me could tell if i was braking. Learned of issue from passing motorist.

Help!

Rotors began making noise around 6000 miles. Dealer stated that there was a rust buildup despite the car being driven daily. The noise has become more pronounced with increased mileage.

While approaching a trafficstop applied brake pedal, and allof a suddenvehicle commenced to accelerate and rear ended vehicle in front dealer/ manufacturer notified and received a case number. Please feel free to provide any further details.

Cruise control failure. Linked to abs brake module - switch failure which also caused rear brake lights to stop functioning.

*sc

While vehicle still under warranty, brake malfunction ocurred. I have been having an intermittent problem with the anti-lock brakes on my 2000 vw jetta tdi.the abs "activates" when going very slowly (less than 10 mph) and when applying minimal pressure on the brake pedal, and sometimeswhen not touching the brakes at all.it first happened over a year ago, and the dealer changed an abs harness connector, and the problem did not recur until about 4 or 5 months ago.i took it back to the dealer several times, and the problem occurred for them, but they were unable to determine the cause, even after calling vw technicians.they replaced a wheel speed sensor at my expense, but said if that didn't fix it, they suggested replacing the abs control module, but they really didn't know if that was the problem.the problem still occurs intermittently, and i noted on an internet message board that a number of others seem to be having the same problem (link: .http://forums.tdiclub.com/showflat.php?cat=0&number=1063831&an=0&page=0#1063831 ).i contacted vw (ref.# 804028386), but they were no help and do not acknowledge that this is a common problem.i think it is a safety issue that vw should be responsible for correcting.

The rear brake pads and rotor prematurely wore out due to defective parts.

Back rear brakes grinded to a stop needed new pads & rotors notcovered under warranty.

While driving at 15 mph driver heard a loud pop.brake pedal went to the floor and continued this way until the driver pulled into a parking lot.there were no brakes.

1.the rear brake line snapped off while installing new pads.the brake line snapped a clean cut, no bends etc.the brake line appeared to be very brittle and was probably a result of metal fatigue or faulty original equipment.it should be noted that the rear brake pads were completely worn out at just 33964 miles while the front pads appeared to be nearly new.this is a reverse in normal wear out patterns and was probably caused by the calipers overheating/locked up etc.2.the rear brake pads were completely worn out after only 33964 miles of which most of the travel was on non-stop on interstate highways.either the rear brake pads were defective or there is something wrong with the design of the vw jetta, which caused the rear pads to wear out long before the front.

The rear brakes on my 200 vw jetta sedan wore down to damage the rotor without any warning. Both front and rear brakes were original equipment. At 42,000 miles, the front had less than 10% wear. The rears had worn completely down. This generated excessive heat and smell of burnt metal. The dealer service representative told me that this was a known problem and they had received a service bulletin from vw related to the poor quality of rear brake pad material causing premature failure and uneven brake wear. Had i been notified that the rear brake pad material was defective, i could have replaced them prior to failure and damage to the rotors and risk of fire.

Rear brakes/rotors worn out at 23,000 miles (no explanation given).

Dt

Second transmission failure for this car, unsure if the dealer in fact replaced origional. Also have noticed speedometer making a clicking sound at all speeds

Consumer stated while driving at any speed and no warning the steering bolt came loose. This caused the steering wheel to jump aroundand made ithard for consumer to steer the vehicle. Dealer was notified. *ph

Power steering began making a wheezing, strained noise after the 20000 mile service. Passenger side window regulator broke and window fell into the door; regulator was replaced by warranty.

1)since i purchased the car in 2000, there has been a sound made at the front end of the car while driving.2)loud sound when driving on regular roads.persistent loud thump sound.3)i have taken the car to the dealer several times for sounds and have asked other jetta owners and they too agreed that their car had a loud noise from the front end.i was even charged several times by the dealer were i purchased the car to re-torque and test the front end.they agreed that they could definitely hear the sound but could not trouble shoot the problem.all attempts to repair or find problem are documented in my service through volkswagen.i also have taken my car to approximately 8 additional shops to trouble shoot noise.all agreed that the noise was unbearable but no solution was found.now i have had my car for 4.5 years and it sounds like my front end is going to fall apart.

I had recently bought this car from "skyline" dealer in colorado , i've owned it for,one year hit a speed bump and the engine fell forward(break-away engine) the engine had broke off the engine bolts(mounts) and the only thing to hold part of it up is the transmission arm.i have just now found someone to make the 8/15/06 repairs its a slow go,and still owe over 17,000 on it the insurance company wouldn't help they said that someone had weld the bolts back on incorrectly so this has happened before, i didn't notice, neither did the dealership for that matter in there many point inspection.

The drivers side window started making a whistling noise and when i tried to roll the window up it dropped down into the door and broke.i was on the freeway and i jumped when it happened.this is a hazard and needs to be recalled.

I had just bought the car, got it satisfied and was driving on my way back to school on a back highway. The hood came completely undone and swung on top of my windshield. The whole hood is completely cracked and we could barely close it. I had checked everything to make sure it was closed before i had left because i was so paranoid that something would go wrong. I called the vw hotline and they basically told me that they aren't going to do anything about it and it was all on me to pay.the hood and closing latch both need to be replaced. I want to know if anyone else has had something like this happen or if it was just a fluke.

On march 19, 2001, i parked the above mentioned jetta ina parking space in front of a retail store where there was a concrete block to prevent cars from pulling too far up. As i was leaving, the bumper which was overhanging the block was pulled off. Gossett initially didn't want to fix at n/c since things like this were not covered under their normal warranty. They said the bumper was designed so if there was any impact from colliding it would collapse for safety reasons. The volkswagen office agreed to fix it at n/c. On 4/109/01, a mr. Brannon, a gossett rep. Called to see if i was satisfied. I told him that i wasn't because it had come off a 2nd time. But i never heard from them again about this matter.on 4/09/01, the bumper hadpulled off a 2nd time when parked in a normal parking space in front of my mother's assisted living facility. This time a normal curve was the culprit. On 4/10, i had an independent body shop fix it. It has come off slightly three times since when coming out of 2 different driveways, and turning left on my street. Since the damage was not to the extend of the first 2, i was able to push the bumper up and reattach the few screws holding it together.there would have been countless other incidents if not for the fact that i have driven it gingerly. I was told by an independent body shop in memphis and an authorized honda/vwbody shop in college park, md that the low design of the jetta, as well as many other cars, is such that the bumpers are easily pulled off. They said that they see these bumper problems. The bumpers are poorly engineered. At the time of the orginal problem, i found on the nhtsa board the follwing incidents of the same thing 10/09/00 odi id#735047, 01/28/01 odi id#741248, 09/22/00 odi id#733361 all had the same problem i reported to your agency. And there were many more reported on your site then. The jetta gets wonderful safety scores, but a bumper that comes off so easily is a danger to me. It is ludicrous.

The bumper dislodged from it brace while backing up. The bumper was against a curb when moved, no addtional weight was added when moving into or out of parking spot, besides the weight of the driver.

Bumper is the same coloras car.bumpers are attached by snaps under car, rightside of bumper came unhooked. Took dealer about 5 times, currently, other side is coming off.

The plastic inside front fender liner on both sides of my 2000 vw jetta gls tdi have come loose in the front and are rubbing against the front tires. I purchased this car less than 5 months ago, it was certified pre owned car from a vw dealer and was given a 110 point inspection. I have driven the car appx 10,000 miles since purchase without any accidents or incidents that may cause these items to come loose. When i brought the car to the dealer i was told that this is very common among these cars and is not a warranty item, furthermore, they advised me that this had to be driver induced damage, although they never inspected it. I called the vw customer care line and requested a factory service rep come and assess the problem only to be told when they called me back that the dealer told them that i had damaged the car, so they would not send a factory rep and the case has been closed. I believe this is a safety issue due to rubbing/interference with the front tires and needs to be addressed, especially considering the dealer told me that this is a common problem and they keep several replacement parts in stock due to frequency.

My air conditioner went out on my 2000 vw jetta.i figured it was something simple.i took it in to the dealership and they said that the compressor needed to be replaced.they said it was going to cost $1,400.00+ to fix it! i don't understand how something this major could happen on a car that is only 3 years old!

Vehicle was in park.then, consumer put vehicle inreverse and without pressing the acceleratorvehicle took off backwards. Consumer was concerned because this happened in a school parking lot.

From stop depressing accelerator, engine rpm runs to 3,000 transmission does not engage then jumps into gear causing uncontrolled jack-rabbit start.

Vehicle does not accelerate properly, and consistently, consumer continues to experience periodic thrusts or surges upon accelerating from a complete/rolling stop in first or second gear, despite several attempts by the dealer to repair the problem, dealer replaced the oxygen sensors and throttle valve.

Numerous electrical compnents have failed and been replaced.the misfiring on acceleration causes car to thrust forward after applying the throttle.i consider this to be a safety hazard, as i was almost struck by on-coming trafic in an intersection.

Help!

I bought my jetta 03/2009 and have nothing but problems. Immediately after purchasing i noticed after once i would pull out of my driveway and press the gas and the asr light and epc light would come on, and it would lose power as in not go. So i would have to restart the car and let it set for about 15 min, which doesn't always work. Sometimes after leaving a store and getting on the main road it will do this, which is really scary when cars are coming up on you fast and your at almost a complete stop hoping they notice the emergency lights on, which do not always work. My engine light is on, and was told it had to do with the throttle body that's why it idles alot.i have had the throttle body looked at, it is fine, i have replace hoses that were damaged. I just picked it up from the shop for emissions repair, engine light still on, and now my motor in knocking really bad. And about 2 wks of purchasing my jetta the casing on the transmission busted, so i had to have it fixed, was not cheap. And i have had to replace the water pump, and tierods, which is fine, that's vehicle maintenance. But my steering is still messed up, and replacing the tierods did not fix this problem, and no one can tell me exactly what is wrong with this car. Nothing can be pin pointed. No one can tell me why the epc light and asr light comes on and the car loses power.

While driving at 55 mph cruise control switch shorted out. This resulted in vehicle suddenly accelerating in excess speed of 80 mph. When this occurred consumer immediately turned the key in the ignition to the off position. Then, vehicle started to decelerate. Dealership was contacted, but it wasnot indicated what caused the problem. Theyonly stated the cost to have the switch replaced.

Cruise control switch shorted and car accelerated in excess of 80 mph, and would not shut down.only way car would slow down if cruise control switch held manually to off as it would not permanently shut off.braking diddecelerate but engine continued at the same rpm, as cruise control would not disengage.

The turn signal/cruis control handle fell off, preventing the operator from signaling an intent to turn. The handle was not damaged in any way to cause it to fall off other thannormal use. The handle is dangling by its wires to the cruise control and the operator is unable to signal an intent to turn.

Vehicle would accelerate on its own, without touching gas pedal.

While approaching a trafficstop applied brake pedal, and allof a suddenvehicle commenced to accelerate and rear ended vehicle in front dealer/ manufacturer notified and received a case number. Please feel free to provide any further details.

The contact owns a 2000 volkswagen jetta glx. The contact stated that the draining system for the sunroof would become clogged and allow water to drain into the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The failure and current mileage was approximately 100,000.

I've been to the dealership more than 10 times for various problems, but the windows failure is the most serious one.currently, rear left window stuck in up position.

I have a 2000 volkswagen jetta and within the past 2 months my driver side window just fell down into the door. There's little plastic clips that hold the window on track and they broke. But you cant buy those clips, you have to buy the whole door assembly. 2nd yesterday, oct 6th, my passenger window just fell down into the door, and again, the same thing. I search alot of vw related forums where people around the nation have the same problems and have file numerous complaints with vw and complaints with consumer affairs. Why hasn't vw issued a recall for these clips? i cant afford the outrageous prices to have both of my windows fixed so i have them taped with duck tape to hold them up. Please look into this and figure out why nothing has been done about this. One woman said she had her car in the shop 8 times and they keep breaking. You can verify this through consumer affairs. Under vw jetta categories. Please respond, i just want a dealership to fix my windows, my car doesn't have a warranty anymore. Its a 2000 model.

Window regulator broke 3 times and i have been told it is a "bad part"- and vw is not doing anything to fix it.

I've had my car for four years now and this is the fourth time that the driver's/passenger's windows have come out of alignmenti've already had each side replaced at least once and i cannot believe this is happening again.each time, it costs me at least $300 to have this fixed and frankly, it's getting old.there must be some defect with the parts or otherwise, i wouldn't have to replace the motor every other day of my life.

My drivers side power window regulator failed, causing the window to fall down into the door. This required driving home for several miles in weather approaching zero degrees. This is a very common problem with vw's, as the same thing has happened to my mom's vw beetle (1999).

The passenger side power window fell into door frame due to regulator failure.

On sept 14, 2001, my wife was driving through drive in at mcdonald's.she pressed the driver window power button and the window malfunctioned.the window went down but would not go up.the dealer replace left front window regulator at no charge to me.on june 7, 2002, my wife was driving on fort benning through the security gate.the window malfunction. It went down and would go up.i took the jetta to the dealer.i spoke with vw's customer relations office, 1.800.822.8987, ref # 20166271.since my car was 971 miles over the 12 month warranty, vw would only pay 50% and i had to pay 50%.it is my opinion that this is a manufacturer's defect.there was a lady at the dealership with the same problem.

(1) very loud bang on the driver side door(2) front driver-side window fell directly into the door panel(3) small plastic clip has to be replaced, at the same time dealer tryes to change a whole power windows assembly for $500.

Consumer states power windows and locks have failed.

While pushing power button for window to roll down window will get stuck half way. Dealer has been contacted, delaer replaced window motor three times.consumer stated there seems to be a defect with the power windows.

From what i have seen and heard, this is a too familiar problem with late model volkswagens.the window made a strange clicking sound and then the window fell all of the way into the door unexpectedly.apparently volkswagen is aware of the problem and has re-engineered the part.if this is the case, why are they not required to issue a recall for this item and repair/replace at no cost to the owner.i would consider this to be a safety concern.what if a window failed while driving in the rain or snow?

Electric power window, when lowered down, failed due to a window regulator popping.the parts are on back order even used/after market parts.please describe details.

Drivers side door. Window fell suddenly, dropping into door.already happened to passenger side door year before. The car is a 2000 vwjetta. This sounds like a recurring problem with vw's.how does a recall happen? how many times does it take to get a recall?

Window regulator failed 35 miles from home. Failure was sudden and rapid. If this had occurred while driving, this could have caused an accident.

Consumer states both power windows dropped into door panel and would not work, dealer replaced the regulators and fixed the window.

My passenger side power window failed.the window collapsed into the door and wouldn't operate correctly again.this is a driving hazard, particluarly when covered by plastic until repaired.

Vw knows that this is a junk window regulator, plenty of folks have this problem. It's unsafe to have window problems, especially with a new car.

Back door window regulators malfunctioned upon activation, on several occasions. The windows were rolled down to defog, and then failed when trying to close. I had to press the button several times for them to go back up. Dealer will not fix because they cannot "duplicate the problem." this is a known issue with the volkswagen dealerships and service departments, and many feel it should be recalled. They have failed on me before, and i don't want this happening when i am away from home, leaving my car vulnerable to rain or other weather damage, as well as theft and vandalism.

Help!

Numerous window regulator issues, one total replacement. Some actions must be taken, this is very expensive and most likely an easy remedy at the factory. There should be a recall on window regulators!

When raising the passenger side window up, glass drops into door panel and will not come up.makes loud grinding noise when pressing button to raise window.dealership replaces window assembly and says they "goodwill" it to me with no charge - even though this was still under warranty and i should not have been charged in the first place.dealership does not have part in stock and i have to drive with a trashbag taped where my window should be in rainy weather during my 30-mile (one-way) all highway commute to and from work.the only window i ever operate now is my driver side window and only as necessary.very costly and dangerous window situation.

Bought the car in 2000.3 months after that i had brought the car to a carwash (handwash) no waxing was done.the next day, there were spots on the hood of my car.the clear coat had come off.i took it to the dealer in sunnyvale, ca and he said it was the carwash companies fault.they had left the car out side with wax on it.i had no proof that the car wasn't waxed, but i did not pay for it.the next problem happened in 2003.my o2 sensor went out.a little over a year later, the maf sensor went out.5 months after that, the turbo cutoff valve went bad and 1 day after that was repaired, the drivers side window decided to drop into the door.the car is a 2000 with only 55k miles on it.it has had all oil changes and basic maintence done that is needed.this should not be happening already!

Front driver's and passenger side power window cable broke on two separate occasions, causingglass to break. Dealer and manufacturer have been contacted. But, unable to provide an explanation for these incidents. Please provide further details.

Vehicle was moving at approximately 30mph when i tried to roll the passenger side window down.there was a clicking noise, followed by the window dropping rapidly into the door.it would not go back up.the service department at the dealership stated that they see this often, and that the regulator cable was stripped.the cost of repair was $430, and vw of america refuses to cover this because my warranty is over.after further research, i've found that there are many customers who have experienced the same problem with their 2000 jetta's.

Replaced rear brake light 4 times; emergency flasher & turn signals fail to work randomly. Twice had rear brake pads replaced; rotors turned second time -- total cost $550. Repeated sensor failures -- knock sensor, mass air flow sensor, coolant temperature sensor; induction coil failure & vehicle imbolized. Driver mirror repaired twice; passenger p/window stuck down; driver window lock twice; seat belt cracked

2000 jetta (vw) 2 weeks ago my passenger side window broke and bought new regulator and had fixed. Today my drivers side window broke. 60k on vehicle and i think this is absurd. Vw should recall all units manufactured with this regulator. I will be going to dealership tommorow to see what they say.

Power steering began making a wheezing, strained noise after the 20000 mile service. Passenger side window regulator broke and window fell into the door; regulator was replaced by warranty.

The window fell in when i went to roll it down.since then i have been in for other problems to the dealer and every time there are atleast 4-7 people waiting that had their window regulators break also.

Driving along and passenger window from the up position drops into the door!!!!! the mechanic said the plastic clips that hold the window broke. The new part has aluminum clips. This is a real accident waiting to happen!!! i almost had one as a result of this happening!!!!!

My power window regulator went out on my 2000 vw jetta and the window fell into the door, in looking on the internet on sites such as msn.comi have found this to be a common problem for almost every single vw owner that has internet access.

When opening the r/f poweer window the window made a strange sound and then the window fell to the bottom of the inside of the door and would not go up.cannot close the window and the part is on back order.contacted vw customer service and they said that since the car is over the milage (even though it is within the 24 month warranty) they would only partially reimburse me.

Six months ago the rear passenger window fell into the door.now the driver's side window has done the same.car is used for business travel and is outside of warranty.from the volume of complaints i believe this item should be a recall.

On 10/2000 d/s pwr window regulator broke and window fell into door frame, car under warranty and part replaced.was told by the service tech at dealership that there was a problem with this part failing.sixmonths later on 04/11/2001 the passenger side pwr window regulator broke and the window fell into the door frame.on this occasion i contaced vw since my car had just passed over the warranty period, vw took care of the problem at no cost to me.i am hoping that this same problem does not happen with the rear windows.have been told by both vw and the dealership that this is a problem, possibly should be addressed since when the regulator breaks the noise is very frightening (sounds like a gunshot) and possibly might cause someone to have an accident.

Front window on driver's side fell into door... Power window switch failed to bring it back up... Made horrific grinding sound... Only 46,000 miles on car.

Driver's and passenger's side power windows regulator broke.window fell into the door.unable to wind the windows up.the first occurrence was covered under warranty.the second occurence was 75 percent coverage.dealer replaced window regulator.

I tried to roll down my window and it got stuck part of the way down and when i tried to roll it back up, there was a loud crack and the window fell down in the door. I took it to a vw dealer and i was charged $565 to replace the motor and regulator.there needs the be a re-call. There are too many complaints regarding this one item.

Power window regulator breaks prematurelly causing window to fall down into door. Problem occurs with either door on both the two door and foue door jetta and golf. There is a long list of owners that have had this problem and have recieved very little assistance from dealer or vw about issue. Most of the complaints can be viewed on the internet at, "www.vwvortex.com."look for the foroum section, then proceed to jetta and golf iv. Do a search for window regulators and volla you will find a long list of owners how have made complaints to the dealers and to vwoa about issue. Vwoa stance has not been set as a whole as of yet, it seems that they will straddle the gate on this issue until someone makes them accountable. And without vwoa addmitting that there is a problem, the dealerships will continue to deny that there is a defect and make the owner liable. Please, can you investigate this matter and give the majority of uus vw owners some relief. Thank you

The first defect was at night, but when the drivers window broke, it was pouring down rain.very hard to see and drive when the rain is soaking you.

While drivingand without warning tried to open window by pushing electronic window lever;however, window was not operable.

The consumer stated that the front passenger and driver?s window regulator broke due to manufacturer defect.consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for replacement and they told them the warranty was expired and the part was on back order.

Left and right front power windows failed, powered down the front windows and heard a loud noise, when consumer tried to roll them up noting happened.*et

While driving at any speed and with no warningdriver's side window will fall into window seal, and will be hard to get it back up. Dealer notified.

Both window regulators have failed and i think its a manufacturing defect because i know another vw owner who has experienced this same failure.i tried to get it fixed at a vw dealership but they referred me to a glass shop/independent shop because of the wait-time to get it fixed.in addition the a/c failed before i bought it from the original owner and again failed 6 months after i bought it because of different ownership i could't claim the warranty coverage on the parts.

Drivers side power front window fell into the door because of faulty power windo regulator.

While driving car on 06/08/02, driver side power window regulator broke and window fill into doorframe.i took car to window repair shop.tech at shop said this was a common problem with vw's and suggested i check with dealer on replacement.car is past warranty period.the car has 4 power windows.i can't afford nor should i have to pay for a new regulator for each window.this is a serious hazard especially if it happens while you are driving.

Power window regulator on drivers window broke causing the window to fall to the bottom of the door.unable to raise window.i own two model year 2000 vw jettas and this is the second incidence of power window regulator failure.

Both front windows on my jetta fell down into the door while driving down the road.the window was up and without me touching any controls it just fell into the door.both front doors fell within 1 week of each other. I am concerned about this happening when a family member is traveling the roads of this rural community.we get snow in october that lasts through may.if we get caught out in a snow storm and the windows fall down inside the doors we are in trouble.i have checked the web and found th is to be a normal problem now being experienced in the 2000 vw jetta.i called vw representative aaron geister, (800)822-8987 who told me that i was out of warranty so i was out of luck.i am under two years but my 75000 miles put me out of luck. I argued that this was not normal wear and tear on a vehicle.windows should not unexpectantly fall out of any vehicle without warning.i called the lithia dealer to get my car fixed and was told it will be awhile as the regulator part is on back order.he told me that tjhere was a bunch of 2000 jetta owners waiting for the exact same servcie.this poor design is going to get somebody killed.vw needs to do a recall and fix the regulator not with another regulator just like the one that fails after two years but a new set up that prevents the window from sporadically falling into the door.

The front passenger door was opened while the driver was lowering the passenger window, with a 'pop' the window fell into the door.the dealer would not cover the $300 cost because it was out of warranty even though we were told that this is a common problem.

Driving along and passenger window from the up position drops into the door!!!!! the mechanic said the plastic clips that hold the window broke. The new part has aluminum clips. This is a real accident waiting to happen!!! i almost had one as a result of this happening!!!!!

Local vw authorized service center indicates that this problem is common on the make and model.they indicate that we should expect to have this problem again, on both doors.the repair cost $300 each time.internet research show that some vw service centers replace the partat no cost.ours did not.

The driver's side window suddenly 'dropped' down into the door, leaving the window totally open with no ability to close.

On three occasions my driver/and or passenger side windows fell into the doors. Vw fixed them at no charge...after much arguing. Ever since i first bought the car (brand new), my car is down 2 quarts before the 3000 mile oil change. Vw says that this is normal.i don't think that is right.

Window regulator: failedcheck engine light: on

Plastic handle that was used to changedriver's and passenger's sideview mirrors broke frequently. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further details.

The contact owns a 2000 volkswagen jetta.the contact stated that the automatic tinting liquid in the rear view mirror is leaking, affecting the plastic near the gear shift, and there are holes in the leather seats.the engine size is unavailable. The current and failure mileage were 61,500.

Consumer states every time they open the sunroof a yellow powdery substance, blows into consumer face. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further informationon the yellow substances.mr

Power sunroof jammed twice and was repaired by the dealer.

Dt

While i was driving, the driver side window in my brand new vw jetta collapsed inside the door and broke. I could not roll up my window. When i brought the car in, they said this is very common, due to hot weather. I think a recall is in order, to replace the part that cannot handle hot weather, and alert the public. Thank you.

Right front window failed to go up or down and the left rear window popped while closing due to broken lifters.the left front window fell into the door. The window regulator failed twice.

Both front side door windows dropped inside the doors because of a regulator failure. Dealer and manufacturer were notified at this time. Consumer stated the falling down of both driver and passenger side windows inside the doors is a defect or a design flaw in workmanship.

While drivingpassenger's side window fell inside of door. Dealer contacted.

While driving heard a loud noise , front passenger's side window shattered inside of vehicle with an explosion into pieces.dealer contacted.

Whenever you use the windshield washer, some of the fluid gets into the vent and you can smell it in the cabin and even sometimes taste it as you are driving.i believe windshield washer fluid is toxic.i have two late model volkswagens, they both do this everytime.i've never experienced this with any other car i've driven before.

This car has literally come unscrewed since i purchased it 2.5 years ago-parts inside and out!most recently the axle "came unscrewed" for no reason and the bolts snapped.the windows have malfunctioned and the rear suspension had to be screwed back together shortly after i bought it. The plastic covering underneath also fell off for no reason-also while i was driving. The windshield wipers have come unscrewed twice and ceased to function once on the highway at high speed during a rain storm. The glove compartment and cup holders have all fallen out.i bought this car new 2 1/2 years ago and i know fear for my life every time i get into it. I have reported this to both the dealer and to volkswagen.neither have expressed any concern whatsoever.dt
