Takata recall2010 volskwagen gti did not fall under the takata recall vin numbers, however my front left airbag is needing a complete replacement. The airbag service indicator light came on when i started my vehicle up in the driveway. It was brough to a mechanic checked the issue. It was found with the following fault code:"code b10001b, drive airbag igniter resistance too high // inspect plug"though the same exact make/model/year of my vehicle fall under the takata recall i was told by volkswagen that my vehicle's vin did not fall under the recall. I find it unlikely that a vehicle made just a few days after mine could fall under this recall, but mine does not. I have an example of this airbag from takata failing, but am expected to pay for the repair myself.
Traveling at 45 mph down a two way highway, i went to pass a slow moving vehicle when the epc turned on once again.i lost power and tried to return back into my lane the vehicle in front spiked on the brakes, i tried stopping but due to the abs module going bad (vw knows about the problems with them) i had no abs, traction control, or airbags. The brakes locked causing me to go off the road way hitting a berm along with a tree causing my vehicle to flip over onto the roof. Upon impact the airbag system did not activate causing minor injuries. I contacted the volkswagen manufacture to inform them of the problems with the vehicle some time ago, they told me that there was not recall and that they were not going to do anything about the problems. There has been a service bulletin about the epc with a recommend fix. The six gold pins were put in to replace the original ones which worked for some time but failed again. Thankfully i did not have my two very small children with me.
While driving the steering wheel, gas pedal and engine will studder and cause epc light to come on with check engine light. Turning off the car and turning back on will sometimes correct problem but will come back shortly after. Car will not accelerate without stalling out. Almost like the computers forgot how to accelerate the car and use the engine. Car was getting onto highway when this happened but does happen during regular driving. Car jumps and studders and the engine wants to shut down since it cant accelerate or shift higher, rpms go down to point of car stalling.
This is a low mileage (31,000) vehicle. Unexpected, complete failure of radio, cd, navigation system, bluetooth hands-free communication... Everything went dead. Vw dealer check fuses and radio fuse and said that they were ok. Radio and all functions associated with radio dead and not working. Will not turn on. Why is this a safety issue? because of the hands-free, bluetooth phone capabilities no longer work. Very dangerous. Plus navigation doesn't work.
I was driving on the freeway mesa,az at the rate of speed 72 mph and the car just shut off, i put it in neutral and coasted through traffic, i was able to get it from the fast lane to shoulder, my heart was racing, i put the car in park try to start it didn't start for a few minutes, drove home few miles away. With no problems. Next morning wouldn't start. With 59,500 miles i was stocked. Had the codes read coils, spark plugs, so i changed them. Still didn't start. 3 day later, (she's garage kept) and started up. Well in the last 6 month's it has done the same thing 9 times on the freeway, 4 times in the city. Took it to vw dealership they read codes p0087 witch is low pressure fuel pump, fuel pump control module, fuel filter. So buying all new parts, i got fuel pump control module & fuel filter at vw dealership, fuel pump over the internet all new parts. The vw parts manager told me that vw has had problems with control module on other models, i think he said that they were recalled on jetta's, golf's and vw has updated the fuel pump control module on my 2010 vw gti 2.0 turbo 3or4 times. I asked how do i know if i'm buying updated version or not, he pointed out the different part numbers and said your good to go. I youtube video of r & r fuel pump, fuel pump control module, and fuel filter. My car ran great for 20.5 miles, starting it up two days later at home, i'm letting it warm up the motor for a few minutes and just quit again wouldn't start up. Then i find out there's a updated & upgraded fuel pump control module that's has 32 amps. Going to the fuel pump, wires, device, clips for $699.00 after i spent $500.00 on the parts installed. My point is that someone who is not smart enough, strong enough, and road conditions vary may not get to the side of the road with no power steering, power brakes, everything on a car quits. Hope nobody gets hurt/ killed.
When i start my car i get a warning saying multiple lights (i.e. Headlight, taillight, fog lights) are burnt out. The affected light eventually turns on. The fuse for my lights was blown and scorched and my local dealer said it was a faulty fuse box which is the same box from the tiguan which has already been recalled.
We purchased and we were servicing our vw gti 2010 at autobarn mt. Prospect/il.in the last 2 years we replaced all ignition coils at different time intervals and twice for cylinder #2.there are actually multiple issues here.first, this kind of problem can easily generate an accident, if one ignition coil fails at the wrong time and the wrong place (when passing or driving on a mountain road).second, the ignition coils are poorly designed and they go bad way too fast making the car undriveable.costly towing was required almost every time.third, the vw dealership should advise customers to replace all coils in the same time at the first sign of trouble. Instead they choose to replace them one by one, charging between $180.00 and $220.00 every time just for labor, when the part itself costs just $32.00 and the level of difficulty for this task is very low.
When hot transmission is getting stuck! when warm i cannot go onto reverse when shifter is in r pushing the gas does not get it to move! also when driving will d on dash board will start blinking and will no longer switch gears accelerator will go into red! i need to pull over and restart car to continue driving! i have read only that other vw models had recalls because of wires it was switching to n !i think this car is also having a similar problem and be included! it does it more once the car is warm and some times the check oil pressure in the engine light will flash when driving long distances! i have read online a lot of other people with similar problem and needed to replace transmission and or get new car!
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen gti. While idling at a traffic light, the entire instrument panel illuminated and smoke appeared from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician stated that the starter melted due to the battery being cracked and acid spilled onto the engine compartment. The wire between the battery and starter were melted. The independent mechanic recommended that the vehicle should be taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The mechanic and the auto insurance company stated that the failures were not caused by a fire. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
The horn on this vehicle does not operate immediately upon pressing the horn button on the steering wheel.there is always a very noticeable delay in response.i know that the horn is a safety item that has strict regulations - can this be looked into?it is apparently a trait of all 2010 vw gti's.

During moderate acceleration, engine cuts power, epc light and check engine light comes on. Vehicle goes into limp mode, and engine will not turn more than 3000 rpm, and has no power to accelerate. Engine develops misfires and idles very roughly. Engine may stall. Turning key off and back on does not remedy the problem. Disconnecting the battery will turn the epc and check engine lights off, but under next moderate acceleration, epc and check engine lights come back on, and problems come back. Check engine dtc codes range from misfires to system too lean and air intake leaks, and for accelerator/throttle position sensor b malfunctions. These problems have happened multiple times in traffic on the interstate and in the city. The vehicle has stalled at stop signs and traffic lights. It has also stalled during acceleration. This problem started happening on august 6th 2019 and has continued to happen.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen gti. The contact stated that the check engine warning lamp illuminated and the engine started to shudder and misfired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the intake manifold needed to be replaced and all of the valves needed to be clean. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 63,000. The current mileage was 64,000.
Around 40-50,000 miles, the vw golf gti usually has runner flap actuator/intake manifold failure.this is common on all vw gtis.this failure usually occurs just after the vw warranty expires on the car.vw has made a 2017 upgrade manifold to fix this problem but they refuse to recall their crappy cars in order to fix this known problem.owners are getting stuck with a $1000-$2000 repair bill to fix this problem.
The car stalled and lost power while driving. No power and no time to allow safely to move the car to the shoulder. Almost cause a rear end collision.
I was told that the ignition coil should last up until 100k mileage and this gave out at 65k and caused engine misfiring and almost engine failure.volkswagen has similar recalls for their ignition coils and i think the 2010 vw gti should be included.thank you.
I was driving in traffic when the engine started to run rough and loud. I had to pull over and turn it off. When trying to turn it back on it started up and continued to run rough. I had the vehicle towed to the shop. When they looked at it they told me the engine needed to be replaced due to the timing chain tensioner failing. When i asked about when i was supposed to have this service done they told me its not listed in the owners manuel or at any service interval up to this point. The part is not on any list of service for the car yet failed at 93k miles. Vw should issue a recall for this problem because they didn't report it to me as something that could break. I was told when i bought the car that the timing chain and tensioner should last the life of the vehicle which should be much higher then 93k. This is a common issue in all vw tsi engines and can happen as early as 40k, vw needs to fix this and warn existing customers.
The timing chain tensioner slipped and blew the cams.the clutch was also bad.every person i talked to when i had to buy a new engine knew that vw gti or golfs had this notorious issue. We had only owned the car for 9 months and had to buy an entire new engine because of this problem that everyone in the car industry knew about already.

The car sputtered, shook, and made an awful sound similar to a ton of marbles in a drier machine. The timing chain went at roughly 82,000 miles. According to vw literature they stated that the reason they went back to a timing chain is that it is a lifetime, nonserviceable part. The timing chain going on an interference type engine destroyed my engine to the order of almost $4000. Vw did not want to assist with anything.
Vehicle was stationary and parked.it would not start.the engine tried to turn over but would not stay running.it was taken to a volkswagen dealer service department for diagnosis.the result is a timing chain tensioner failure and very large $2200 repair fee with the potential for a significant rebuild of the engine if more damage is found.after some research it appears that this is a known design issue with the tensioner part and there is a technical service bulletin (tsb 1512-01) issued for it but no recall.it is very like to occur for all volkswagen models with the 2.0 tsi engine produced between 2008-2013.this could have been life threatening if the failure had occurred while the vehicle was in motion, especially at higher speeds.
Car overheated and broke down on route 95 in virginia due to a defective water pump. This is the third water pump in less than 3 years and 6332 miles that has gone bad in this vehicle. The currently has 28314 miles. The first water pump failed 11-20-15 with 21982 miles.the secondpump failed 2-27-16 with 22767 miles. The third pump failed 3-27-18 with 28314 miles. There is no reason for water pump failures this frequently. All service was done at volkswagen of fredericksburg 540-898-1600.
Vehicle was running very rough.hard to start.had it towed to north penn vw. They diagnosed it as a defective timing chain tensioner. Two managers and a tech said the part failed and it should not have. They said it was of no fault of my own.they suggested i contact vw since it was a defective part. I did and they said they would not be able to help me since it out of warranty. It is a known problem on all 2010 vw's.the dealership admitted it and there is a service bulletin(tsb) addressing the exact part.
Vehicle was purchased from a volkswagen dealer with 61557 miles and maintained through service at dealership including regular oil changes. Less than two years later, at roughly 106,000 miles the timing chain tensioner failed randomly while driving resulting in valve damage and ultimately full engine failure. Vehicle was coming out of a turn at approximately 24 mph, safely in 3rd gear, and failed about 2 seconds after throttle was applied. No possible warning from vw or their service techs and no scheduled maintenance interval for this part. Had this happened in a more traffic filled area, there may have been a very high chance of a collision or other safety concern.
Timing chain tensioner failure - the car was parked for the night. In the morning i went to start it. I would not start. There were no lights or error codes. Towed to the dealership. The dealership stated zero compression and bent valves. They stated i need a new engine. 7400.00 called vw of american. They offered no help what so ever. Volkswagen of america just keeps stating the car was out of warranty. There is a tsb, multiple complaints on the internet regarding tiguans, gti's and passats. This engine has had this problem happening for years from 2008 to 2013 vw will not accept any responsibility.
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen gti. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle started jerking and failed to properly accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was examined by an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the intake manifold was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 67,000.
Have a gti where there is a known issue with the timing chain tensioner failing. Vw recommends replacement of these parts which costover $1300. There is a service bulletin for this issue. And ofcourse vw knowing this was a problem changed the design in newer cars.

2010 vw gti with dsg has stalled out twice for me in traffic.the car will start to idle roughly then stall out.this usually occurs after being in stop and go traffic after and hour or so.
2010 vw gti with dsg has stalled out twice for me in traffic.the car will start to idle roughly then stall out.this usually occurs after being in stop and go traffic after and hour or so.
The 2010 gti with dsg driving in heavy stop and go traffic, after and hour and half . Stalled in the middle of traffic at 7:00 pm.
I have a 2010 vw gti currently with 13,000 miles on it.the first instances happened at about 10,000.it started with brake vibrations, and engine stalling.took it to vw, they found no issues.had total brake boost loss on the way home, brake didnt work felt stiff as hell.vw took it for 3 days, did an engineering assist, found no issues and couldnt reproduce it, gave it back and said to monitor it.drove down to tampa, the cars transmission went into neutral, an error popped up on the display and the cars brakes wouldnt respond.e-braked on the median, i had a child in the car, this car is dangerous.vw towed the car to the local dealership, found the mechatronix unit was faulty, couldnt find any in florida, had to order from vw estimated 1 week delivery time.mechatronix unit was fixed under warranty after a lengthy repair.now the cars still acting up, stalls occasionally, has trouble starting, and jerks violently between 1st and 2nd gear and makes a loud popping sound.vw took it for 2 days and still cannot reproduce these issues and gave it back after i told vwoa that it was an unsafe vehicle and i didnt want it.i am now driving an unsafe vehicle, and because the vehicle has safety concerns i am unable to trade the vehicle in or sell it privately due to having to notify the buyer of said safety issues.im suck with this dangerous vehicle that stalls at lights and has trouble starting/getting into gear.im scared for the safety of my passengers and other motorists around me.and im not getting anywhere with this company!
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen gti. He could hear a buzzing noise between 2000 rpm and 3000 rpm when the engine is started and the noise continues all during driving. The vehicle was taken numerous times to the dealer where he was told that was normal for the vehicle to make noise and that is part of the design to enhance the sound within the vehicle. The manufacturer also stated the same information, stating that the sound was normal. The failure mileage was approximately 10 and the current mileage was 8,800. Updated 11/16/10 the consumer stated vw did acknowledge the issue. The consumer stated the fix is only temporary and there is still a rattle in the engine.updated 11/24/10the consumer stated he took his vehicle to the dealer to have the technical bulletin performed. The dealer kept the vehicle for five days. He stated, at first it seemed as though the noise had all but disappeared, but it only lasted a couple of days. Updated 01/13/11
The contact owns 2010 volkswagen gti. The contact stated he lost the ability to accelerate at highway speed. As he was driving there was a big clunky sound and the vehicle slows down but did not come to a complete stop. He had taken the vehicleto the dealer at least three times but they were unable to identify the failure. The volkswagen manufacturer was called and a claim was filed. The failure mileage was 4,500.
I purchased a new 2010 voksawagen gti in the beginning of november 2009.only a few days after i took delivery of it i started having issues with the braking system.i was driving home going the speed limit around a long turn that i have been driving for 7 years now and all of a sudden the car made a feeling like i had ran over something big or had a flat tire,i was not pressing on the brakes or hard on the gas,i was just driving normally.i pulled over and i could not find any damage to the car or a flat tire.i got back in the car and went back to the turn and there was nothing in the road and it was completely dry that night to.it felt like a grinding crunchy feeling and sounded like a flat tire grinding on the pavement or something crunchy,it also slowed the car down a little bit.i took it in to the dealership and they had it for a week and when i picked it up they said they could not find a problem.i drove the car home and a day later it did the same exact thing,a few days after that i was getting off the interstate i went to press on the brakes and my brake pedal was solid so i had to downshift to slow down, having no brakes is very scary, the next day it rained for the first time since i had the car and the sunroof started leaking and then a few days later the radio started turning down and muting by itself,i took the car in again and the dealer had it for 3 weeks and when i picked it up all they had fixed was the sunroof.i demanded someone come out to drive the car and he got it to do the crunch going around a turn and a few days later he said it was normal,if its normal why doesnt it do it everytime?it still does the chrunchy thing a few times a week and the radio is still acting up on a daily basis and wouldnt let me press on the brakes yesterday going around a turn.the dealer says its working like it should but i dont see how if i cant use my brakes when i need them, its very dangerous and scary.i have been keeping logs and miles when these problems occured.
2010 vw gti with 6700 miles, fuel pump died while driving, car stalled out in the middle of the highway.

Water pump failure, two failures in 8 years, the second failure with 20,000 miles on the pump. It failed while i was driving and car began to overheat.
The vehicle i purchased was under used dealer warranty engine and transmission i went ahead and did almost $4000 in repairs to this car to make it drive somewhat normal from the original jerky start from after purchase (no it did not drive like this when i test drove) i attempted to get a new transmission because vw recommended this to remedy the issue but when i tried to contact the dealer he told me that i should stop beating on it i have come across a lot of research showing there is an open recall on this car for the sudden shifts and bucking i already had the intake manifold repaired by vw but i need help getting the transmission recall that went unnoticed by volkswagen its a real problem in this year and marque
My vehicle will automatically go from being in drive to acting like its in neutral. And will not move or go anywhere. And this all happenened when i was in dr9ve drving down the road.
The first incident that i had was starting with the car making weird noises that were coming from the engine/transmission when the car would start.it is hard to explain the noise, but it sounded like something was winding up. I took the car to dealership. They weren't able to establish what was wrong with the car.check engine light didn't come on, and car did not reproduce the same noise when i took it to the dealership.i was told that they couldn't see anything wrong with the car.09/05/2013, more noise, and this time was followed by hard downshifts, and hard bucking.every time the car would accelerate, or if you were coming to the stop, it would shift hard, car would buck.i was told that the dsg mechatronic unit has failed. Transmission replaced 04/09/2014my wife was driving the car.speed 45 to 50 mph.she noticed that the car wasn't able to accelerate. Engine was revving up, but car wouldn't go. Pulled over on the shoulder, before someone rear ended her.she looked at the dash board, and she noticed that "d" was flashing.she took the car to dealer to see what is going on. I was told that a power supply relay was the cause of this problem, and it wasn't covered by the power train warranty.part # 4h0-951-253-a relaycar was picked up on 04/24/201405/08/2014i stopped at the red light, was going to make a right turn, but the car wouldn't want to accelerate.it felt like it was in neutral.engine was revving, but car wouldn't move.i looked at the dash board, and "d" light was flashing.i pulled onto the side of the road, so i don't get rear ended.i tried to select the neutral gear, "n" was flashing.each gear position that i selected was flashing. I drove the car back to dealer, and told them what have happened.car is currently at the dealer.
Dsg transmission mechatronics unit failed at 70,000 miles july 2016. Transmission goes into limp mode...won't go into reverse and jumps down to and remains in first gear when in d.all service done on schedule.mfr refuses to cover replacement of unit due to limited warranty.
Rear main seal fails under 60k miles happen to a lot of 2.0t engines.volkswagen should provide extended warranty
The contact owns a 2010 volkswagen gti. The contact stated that while her son was driving 25 mph, the gear shift warning indicator was flashing. The brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed about nhtsa campaign number: 09v333000 (power train) however, the vin was not included. The contact called cox chevrolet incorporated (2900 cortez rd w, bradenton, fl 34207, (941)348-6417) however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 108,000.
I have a 2010 volkswagen gti that has a dsg transmission that slips, clunks, and has a power loss. There has been 53000 of these transmissions recalled. I have taken the car to the dealership over three times. They offer no solution. I fear that it will break down and possibly cause an accident. I writing you for help.
Jerky, halting transmission engagement /disengagement in first to second gear.caused a rear-end accident with only 343 miles on the car.i thought it was me but i have read similar complaints online.
Vw gti 2010 dsg auto transmission loss of power.8 months with vehicle, had 5 emergencies on intersection cross, the gti will increase engine revolution but the car will not move for about 4 seconds, then it will launch almost burning tires. Now the car started to act the same way when you are shifting down from 5 to 4 or from 4 to 3rd gear, it looses power for about 4 seconds before it picks up power again.this situation has put me and family into serious hazard in a highway.hope vw will resolve this issue soon.cars is now (10/16/2010) on a dealer for the second time for technicians to check it again.ps.: car presented the same problem on 1st gear since day one with 10 miles out of the dealership.thank you for your attention.
Dsg automatic trans has given me several minor but one scary problem since having vehicle less than one year. On any colder morning 50 degrees or below the vehicle will dramatically leap forward upon acceleration. Its as if it doesn't seem to shift properly then starts working better after it warms up.this march i experienced a much scarier situation. I was driving close to home when somebody pulled out in front of me i was able to stop in time but the car acted very strange after i started moving again. The only was to describe it is that the car was stuck in first gear for a block or so the engine was revving very high and car wouldn't go very fast at all. After a block or so in finally started working correctly.i have had it to the dealer twice now once for 60 day and also the 10k service. Vw has stated that there were no codes in the computer so therefore there was no problem. I know there were no codes in the computer all codes are registered on the vehicle computer display. Vw needs to admit they have a problem and fix this situation.if you read this and have similar problems please take the time to fill this out so vw is held accountable for the problems on all dsg transmissions that a lot of people seem to be experiencing.
Conditions:20 degrees, sunny, louisville, kentucky.vehicle:2010 vw gti 4-dr w/dsg transmission.currently 263 miles on the odometer.backed out of my garage, put the car in drive (d), and proceeded down my driveway.began driving out my subdivision and noticed the engine rpms were getting louder and the car appeared to be stuck in 1st gear.i put the dsg transmission in both manual mode and sport mode, tried to manually shift the vehicle into another gear, but had no success.stopped the car, turned it off, waited a few minutes, started the car, started driving again.same behavior... The car would only run in 1st gear.proceeded to turn around to get the vehicle back to my house only to learn that reverse was not working.contacted vw roadside assistance and had them tow the car to the local vw dealership.service is closed until monday, 1/4/2010, so will not know next steps until then.confirmed manufacture date of this 2010 vw gti was 07/2009 (apparently within the time frame vw has indicated there were manufacturing issues with the dsg transmission).the symptom of the failure i experienced is far different than the current recall from vw (cars shifting into neutral).in this case, my car simply would not shift out of 1st gear and also would not work in reverse).believe the vw dsg transmission issue is only going to expand.would like to see the nhtsa further investigate this matter with vw to ensure all affected transmissions are replaced. Regards, brian pearson
The contact owned a 2010 volkswagen gti. While driving approximately 45 mph, the front driver side tire blew out and forced the vehicle to veer to the left. As a result, the vehicle crashed into the retainer wall. The front driver side air bag deployed, but the seat belt failed to retract. A police report was not filed and no injuries were sustained. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
Could not turn the wheel at all, steering was out. The voice command came onsaying get assistance immediately.this was repeated over and over.turned vehicle off, re-started and it was now working.i drove to a shop they said this does happen with this year maybe once a year.

The rear window washer nozzle leaks upon acceleration, decreasing visibility. It happens all the time, especially when its warm outside.this has been happening since the car was new.there was a tsb to install a check valve, which didnt solve the problem, and the hose was further shortened and it also didnt solve the problem.
I was driving on the interstate at about 60 mph and i heard a loud bang, like a gun shot. I looked around, and looked up, and noticed my sunroof had exploded into a million little pieces, and was slowly breaking back into oncoming traffic, and was falling on me. I went to exit the interstate, and a large chunk (about 9"x9") fell on me and scraped my arm. I have glass in the car, hair and ground into my skin a bit - some of it is very fine and sharp, like sparkly powder. The dealership says it was probably a rock that hit it, but i don't think a rock could have a velocity in the vertical direction at that speed to hit and smash the glass. I'm requesting it be fixed under bumper-to-bumper warranty.
