I got into a head on collision and my airbags did not deploy.

Airbag fault indicator is erroneously present. Now the airbags are not active even with passengers onboard. Dealership us asking me to pay the 55 dollars to get the light reset for the airbags to work.

Takata recallmy volkswagen has many problems that i believe are factory defects. Starting with the airbag fault warning that comes on as soon as i start the vehicle. Then itstarted loosing coolant to tbe point that k was having to pull over every 30-50 miles to put more. And this only happens when the engin has been running for about 5 mins. Then the check coolant comes on and shortly after it says check oil pressure turn off engine. Ive had to put more work into this car than what its worth. The headlights turn off randomly the brights dont work or while im driving one will turn off or both at the same time and this happens anywhere if my car is in motion. . the image below that shows the radiator connector that has kb weld on it because my engine got so hot that the top hose broke off causing a domino effect of problems anlong with costly repairs.

While pulling into a gas station after leaving a stop light, the steering wheel mounted buttons and lights (horn, steering wheel, etc) flickered off when turning. At that point, the buttons failed to work unless the wheel was turned almost to full lock clockwise. It took about a day of driving until the airbag light finally came on telling me there was a fault. Further investigation led to a faulty airbag clockspring. Numerous instances of people reporting similar failures on vw forums with similar model years. A research in part numbers show it's the same part number and version through various vw models including 2006-2013 jetta, golf, gti, passat, tiguan, etc. Many stories of people with those cars having similar issues. This part should be redesigned and replaced in the affected vehicles since the driver's side airbag can fail to deploy in a crash even if the airbag fault light isn't always on.

When braking hard today (it was raining and i got cut off by a distracted driver) my car went into a (barely) controlled skid. Abs, esp. Steering wheel lights all flashing with three beeps. The lights went away when i turned the car off/on. My wife is 7 months pregnant, and was with me in the car. I'm not impressed with what i'm readingonline regarding the sheer volume of others experiencing complete abs failure. Someone is going to get killed if vw doesn't recall the malfunctioning control module.i've booked my car in for service next week. I truly hope vw steps up and finally accepts responsibility for this life-saving repair. Ps i'm in british columbia, canada (victoria).

While driving the vehicle on street roads and highways the car will shift down into a unknown gear and all lights start flashing putting the car into a neutral that doesn't fix until it's restarted.

Timing chain failure 60000 miles; 6 months later engine coils failed.

Failed abs module which makes speedometer, abs, traction control not work intermittently.

Abouttwo weeks ago while driving straight on a city street in dry conditionat a steady speed the esc light on my dash came on and would not go out until i had parked the car for some time and restarted it. The light then came back on again after about 5 minutes of driving, this time it was accompanied by the electric power steering warning light which began to flash orange, then was solid orange and then flashed between orange and red.when the electric steering light is orange the steering assistance is reduced when straightening after cornering, however when it is red there is no power assistance and this condition can happen at any speed and at anytime without warning.now yesterday(7/14/2019) when driving at 40mph in a straight line in the dry, the engine fail! workshop now!, esp, epc, electro steering, cel and abs warning lights came on accompanied by a chime and the speedo went from 40 to 0 and back up again while in motion. Quite disconcerting to have all that happen at once. After all the lights went out the vehicle seemed to be ok until i attempted to pull out of a gas station at which time with the vehicle in drive i pressed the accelerator and the revs went up but the vehicle did not move until the third attempt.i have read on line that this maybe a result of an abs module failure but my vin doesn't pull up any recalls and my vehicle is out of warranty.not only does this sound like it will be an expensive repair, it is also a hugh safety issue!unfortunately i don't have any pictures as it is completely random and not safe to try and take pictured while driving.

My abs pump & module were determined to need replacement. Searching online, it seems a large number of people with the 2009 model are having this issue. I was quoted at $2200 to fix it. I was driving on a city street to a restaurant after my wedding and the abs, traction control and brake lights all came on. Days later the car started to rev weird and the speedometer would not work.

Abs brakes and stability control failure, every time the abs or stability control is activated the systems immediately fail and dash lights all turn on with three loud chimes. Other times the failure happens during normal driving. Power cycling the vehicle resets everything but the failure will soon occur again. This is a well known problem with 2009 models and in my opinion is dangerous -- abs & stability control system are critical to safety during emergency braking. Some time ago i had to use the brakes to avoid an accident, my wheels all locked up and my vehicle began to skid sideways -- not what one would expect on a vehicle that comes with abs brakes. I just now learned i can file a complaint. This issue has been ongoing for over approximately 18 months. I regularly turn the ignition off/on while driving to power cycle and reset the abs module when it error fails - though i don't expect it to work when needed.

Abs and traction control warning lights on the dash had intermittently appeared on several occasion over the past three months while driving at various speeds and conditions.the warning lights would stay on until i turned the car off.once restarted the lights would be off.on 12-aug-15 the same warning lights came on when i started the car.they remained on after turning the car off and restarting.three warning beeps were then heard at several minute intervals until i reach my destination.other warning lights came on briefly then went out.i was informed by a mechanic that the abs control module had failed.based on an internet search i understand this is a common issue with the 2009 vw gti.

Abs warning light started coming on. Then a warning light that the right, rear turn signal had failed. One week later the entire dashboard is covered in warning lights, including a "faulty engine workshop" warning light. It appears that abs control module has failed, leaving me with no abs braking on a well maintained, 50k mile car. This seems to be rampant problem with the tsi mkv gti at this mileage. Vw of america offered me no assistance. Vw should recall this part before they see any accidents lead to serious injuries.

I have a 2009 vw gti that is only 3 months old.the rear brakelight in the spoiler is filled with moisture and does not go away.i would like to be able to change this bulb out easily when it fails because it will if moisture remains trapped.however the factory manual warns that this is a multi-day job and may result in a broken spoiler and possible body damage. This appears to be a violation of fmvss 108 which requires that replacing the bulbs be simple and require only common tools. This is an issue on all 2006 - 2009 vw gti and r32 cars.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen gti. When the brake pedal was depressed at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated to respond and the instrument panel warning indicators flickered on and off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that an unknown steering mechanism failed and the steering module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the abs control module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). The failure mileage was 95,120.

While driving north on i-895 at 55 mph, nearly all of my warning lights appeared on the dashboard, along with "engine fault workshop" on the mass display. The vw dealership indicated that it was the abs control module. Upon research online, this appears to be a common issue with 2009 vw gti's. Some have reported that the their brakes have completely locked up on them. I called volkswagen of america, and they deny any issues with this.

While driving at highway speeds, multiple dashboard lights indicating loss of traction control, anti-lock brakes, and power steering were illuminated.this then caused issues because those systems are not working while the speedometer (would stay at 0mph when driving) and the fuel gauge (moved around randomly from 1/4 to 3/4 full).looking into this issue i found that several owners of the same make, model, and year have had the exact problem as me.

My gear indicator lights (prnds) flash and my car either will not engage into gear or will limp. It has done it several times while driving on the highway. It will slam into a low gear causing rpm to max to 8000 and acts as if i slammed on the breaks. Also the number 3 fuse on top started smoking and melted inside the fuse box. Feared my car was king to catch fire.

Faulty abs control module for 2009 models of the volkswagen gti. As a result of the faulty abs control module, it causes all kinds of other errors in my car, shown in the dashboard. Some are abs disabled, traction control/esp disabled, check engine light illuminated , emergency brake lights illuminated, hydraulic steering gone, speedometer drops to 0 (can't tell what how fast i'm driving anymore), etc. With all these problems happening as a result of a faulty abs control module, how is this issue not addressed yet? why hasn't there been a recall for this put out yet? this will definitely result in an accident either for me, or one of the many others who own 2009 vw gti models in the future, and i hope that it will not have to come to this before vw does a recall on this.

When driving the car, a lot of the warning lights flash out of nowhere.the abs light, traction, power steering, epc lights all flash.i also lose power steering.on top of that, the speedometer does not work.this happens abruptly and sometimes at high speeds.it is extremely dangerous.from what i've read, it is the abs module failing.this seems to be a common problem of 09 gtis and needs to be recalled!

Airbag fault indicator is erroneously present. Now the airbags are not active even with passengers onboard. Dealership us asking me to pay the 55 dollars to get the light reset for the airbags to work.

The vehicle was in motion when the warning lights for abs, brake and the esc systems illuminated making a beep noise, the gas indicator said the car had less gas than really had. While in the road the car lost power. I think it is related with the abs and stability control recall: nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000.took it to the dealer, they say they do not have the recall number yet.

One of the hid headlamp stopped working causing the bulb fail warning light on the dash to be illuminated. I went to the auto parts store and bought a new bulb. Upon removal of the bulb access cover i found that all the insulation on allof the wiring in the headlight unit to have disintegrated causing the bare wires to touch and short out. I then inspected the other side of the vehicle and found the exact same condition. Upon contacting the dealer i was told that as the car was out of warranty i would have to purchase two new headlamp units at a cost of $500 per unit. I then contacted vwofa ( customer care ref #[xxx]) only to be told that again being out of warranty it was my responsibility to incur the repair costs.as the vehicle only has 60k and this is not only a safety issue but potentially hazardous and a manufacturing defect please investigate.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The abs module failure has been reported many times online. The module will fail causing abs, traction control, power steering, and engine lights to all come on. Much of the dashboard is lit now. The car reads "engine fault workshop" and the speedometer will drop to 0 mph. The fuel gauge will change from empty to 3/4 to 1/2 while driving. Audible beeps are heard from dash.

I bought this vw gti 2009 in 01/2009. Since last summer, the engine start to have issues when trying to turn it on. Here is what happens: when the engine temperature is cool, it has no problem to turn it on. But when the engine is already warmed up (e.g., after drive 15 min on the freeway), and you turn it off. Then there is >50% chance it won't get started when you try to turn it on again. If this happens, i might have to try a couple of times then it can get the engine started. I have been to two different vw dealers for several times, neither can identify what's the root cause. In my last visit, i showed them how to reproduce the problem, and i left the car for a couple of days. But they told me that they cannot reproduce the problem.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen gti. While starting the vehicle, the abs indicator illuminated. Also, while making a turn at various speeds, the instrument panel and the fuel gauge randomly failed. The vehicle was taken to a local ancira volkswagen dealer located in san antonio, tx where it was diagnosed that the abs module needed to be updated. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the codes did not match the faults listed in the recall. The contact was denied the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 81,600.

The 12 volt outlets in my car aren't working.when i went to check the fuse, i discovered that the diagram of the fuse box provided by volkswagon in my manual does not match the actual fuse box in my car.i can't tell which fuse to replace to correct the problem.on-line, many other people have commented that their fuse box diagrams in their manuals are wrong too.please help us get accurate diagrams of our fuse boxes.

For several weeks, solid abs, solid traction control, and flashing "brake" lights would illuminate on the dashboard occasionally upon turning on the vehicle, accompanied by 3 audible beeps. Then, the abs, traction control, brake, epc, steering, and check engine lights began to come on while driving. Abs and traction control stay illuminated, while the epc, steering, check engine, and brake lights come on intermittently, accompanied by 3 audible beeps. The message "engine fault - workshop!" also shows up on the message display center in the dash. In addition, while the car is in motion, the speedometer will repeatedly alternate between the actual speed reading and a reading of 0 mph. When the speedometer drops to 0 mph, the engine rpms increase. Finally, the car sputters and bucks when attempting to accelerate rapidly, and steering feels a bit stiff. The dealer has indicated an internal fault in the abs control module.

After driving my car for five minutes, i heard a loud "pop" from the car's right side. I looked over and observed that my right side view mirror was black but still intact. When i pulled over and exited my car, i felt the mirror which felt to no longer be flat but warped in various spots. It is quite apparent the mirror overheated. My mirror function nob was not in the "heat" position and was set to the left side mirror position. My concern is that it could have started a fire.

Vehicle has failed abs module, as diagnosed by mechanic. Abs light is on and brake light flashes, as to be expected. While in motion, on either city street or freeway, vehicle randomly downshifts to first gear and is unable to switch back. Only way to get car working again is to turn car off and on, a dangerous proposition when you're on the freeway. In addition, power steering goes out and engine fault workshop! comes on after a few minutes in motion. Speedometer also randomly stops working while tachometer goes out of control. What begins as a simple brake problem is now an undriveable car. Have had to push car to side of the road several times because of this. Completely unsafe conditions to drive in.

I researched my vin when i purchased the vehicle and found an incomplete safety recall on the abs module. That recall number is 16v913. Before i could take the vehicle to the scheduled appointment the abs module failed. The volkswagen dealer in tacoma, washington charged me a diagnostic fee because the module failed communication, in which they found the module did indeed fail, but they would not replace it because they claim it wasn't covered under the warranty or the recall. They submitted a secondary claim to vw of america to try to have them approve the claim which was also denied. I am reaching out to hopefully get help with getting my vehicle fixed and once again safe to drive. Attached will be a copy of the invoice from the dealer and their findings.

Abs module failure at 88k miles. Multiple fault codes presents with constant beeping and an error message reading" engine fault! workshop! in the heads up display (epc, emergency brake, electronic steering assist off, traction control off fault codes). This is a safety feature failure that can result in loss of power steering, antilock braking system functionality, and traction control at the same time. The failure of this module represents a serious danger to occupants in the vehicle as the safety features are disabled due to the failure of this crucial part. This can happen at any speed while driving/turning.

2009 75,000 miles.abs control module failurefor the past couple of weeks my car would intermittently throw up the abs and traction lights but this would go away shortly afterwards.i get in my car about 30 minutes and start driving for maybe 1/16th of a mile and everything just freaks out.speedometer is dropping to zero (while in motion doing about 15 mph) and fluctuates all over between 0 and 20 mph.brake light is on.traction light is on.abs light is on.steering light is on.epc light is on.check engine light is on.and the mfd is saying "engine fault workshop".as time has gone on it now tends to happen atleast 15+ times a day.

Just last week my gti started having electrical problems and soon realized most 2009 gtis eventually have this problem with their abs control modules. Solid abs, solid power steering light, solid check engine light, solid traction control, and flashing "brake" lights would illuminate on the dashboard occasionally upon turning on the vehicle, accompanied by 3 audible beeps. Steering feels a bit stiff. The dealer has indicated an internal fault in the abs control module.

While driving the vehicle steering system became tight, abs and brake light came on as well as check engine, steering system malfunction, epc and stability control lights lit up on dash.also, fuel gauge would drop to empty and speedometer went to zero miles per hour while the car was in motion.this happened on a city street going straight or turning.

Abs faliure. Abs warning light activates, activates sporadically while driving randomly, braking ability is hampered, does not work normally. Occassionally antilock breaks engage at low speed breaking. Brakes do not function normally. Speedometer experienced malfunction, fluctuations not related to speed occured. Stability malfunctioned during breaking and automatic downshifting.

Without warning, the abs module in the car failed, giving warning lights on the dash and making the car undriveable. Recall work was pursued with the a vw dealer and volkswagen of america, but the recall work was denied, saying this failure was outside the scope of the recall. Car has not been repaired.

One or more of the breaks locked up on the car. The abs, epc, traction control, and a number of other lights on the car lit up and began flashing. The car's speedometer and fuel guage stopped working. After the car was restarted most of the errors went away but have since reappeared. Based on the number of posts i'm finding online, this appears to be a wide-spread problem with the 09's.

Hello, i recently learned about the recall that volkswagen has for 2009-2010 gti's.the recall was for the abs control module that caused a safety concern to our cars. What i cannot understand is how my friend got a recall ketter and i did not (we have the same exact cars).. My abs module went out last year and i remember driving on the roads every day without traction, esc control, pretty much my whole dash was lightened up.. I am a college student and had to pay 1600 dollars out my tuition fund just to pay for this problem that is now a recall a year later! i am wondering if vw figured that my car was good and thought i wouldnt need a recall letter. But guess what, if my friend is getting his gti abs module repaired for free by volkswagen, i think its only fair for me to get my money back that i spent for this problem.. I have the reciepts and i am pretty sure it is in the volkswagen database!

While driving lights flashing, speedometer stops working ,fuel gauge stops working. Steering wheel moves funny. There is a recall on the program that they installed but now they just say that the unit needs to be replaced. They are asking 2400.00 for the repair but there are many complaints on the internet from many owners.

During any emergency braking situation, my car will lock all four tires and the traction control, abs, and emergency brake (flashing) lights will turn on. The lights remain on until the car is turned off and on. This is very dangerous fault that appears to be very common on the 2009 gti. This issue is very easy to reproduce by braking hard from any speed greater than 35 mph. I have been told it is the abs control module, which is in line with all of the other complaints about the abs system. Vwoa should recall the abs control module on the 2009 gti.

Beginning around 55k miles (car was approximately 6 years old) i occasionally would experience a chime followed by abs light flashing when taking tight turns.it turned off when cycling the engine off/on.also, sometimes there would be three chimes upon starting the car followed by abs and esc warning lights flashing.this could not be removed by cycling the engine off/on.it would stay on while driving and only go away randomly the next time i restarted it later; sometimes it would stay on for many consecutive stops/starts.the symptom of the three chimes upon startup got more frequent recently (70k miles).it would appear almost every day.i researched this on web chat forums and the symptoms appeared to be consistent with other 2009 vw gti drivers experiencing abs control module failure.i also consulted my local vw mechanic and he concurred my symptoms were 'early onset' failure and anecdotally he said the 2009 vw gti control modules have a reputation of early failure.it is worth noting the condition renders the esc and abs non-functional.i took the car to the dealer at 73500 miles and he diagnosed abs control module failure and said it was dangerous to drive.i asked for a goodwill warranty extension and got it; the unit was replaced which appears to have fixed the issue.luckily, i did not ever encounter a situation that tested the driveability of the car with those systems disabled.

While driving at speed, "engine workshop" error code followed by abs, esc, "brake" traction control, steering warning yelow, steering warning red, and multiple dings and alarms. Speedometer goes to zero, car is slugginsh...when stopped, the brakes seem soft unless "pumped up" i am concerned that thevehicle controls are not relaible.

Abs , traction light, and brake light went on during driving. Many 2009 volkswagen gtis have the same problem. Its known an koabs module and pump defective.

2009 volkswagen gti abs control module failure. This appears to be a common problem. Driving down the highway and complete system failure occurred. Numerous dash board annunciator lights and loss of speedometer.

When braking in slippery conditions, the abs light, brake light, and traction control lights come on and the abs ceases to function, allowing the brakes to lock up and the car to slide. The lights reset when the car is turned off and on but the failure happens every time abs should be engaged. Effectively, the abs does not work.

I was traveling east in the right lane on interstate 44 at approximately 0645 in the am.it was normal heavy morning work traffic going into oklahoma city, traveling the posted speed of 70 mph.i was following a full size pickup truck and moderate traffic was passing me on my left.without notice, traffic suddenly slowed to approximately 40 mph, causing me to hit my brakes hard.the abs system engaged and my car was thrown sideways off the road at approximately 70 mph.i pulled the car back left, causing vehicles in the left lane to swerve to miss hitting me.the abs and brake light illuminated on my car, indicating a failure however, a dummy could figure out the brakes were not working.there is no doubt in my mind, had my car been thrown left when i hit the brakes i would have been smeared by on coming traffic, likely a fatality.i immediately took my car to volkswagen and was told i needed a pump/abs module; a 2500 repair.understand when i shut the car off and turned it back on, the abs/brake fault lights clear.i had no indication my abs system was malfunctioning until i needed brakes.and bam!.after reading forums, its apparent this is an on going problem with 2009 gtis and it should be an immediate safety concern of volkswagen.someone is going to get killed.i've asked for my old parts so i will have them when there are court proceedings against volkswagen for the injury or death of someone as a result of a failed abs system.this really does need investigating.thank you

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen gti. While driving 35 mph, when the brake pedal was depressed, the check engine, abs, brake, electronic stability control, and epc indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the abs module needed to be replaced. The dealer estimated that the repair would cost $1,500-$2,000. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred several other times. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the manufacturer denied the recall repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer stated that since the abs module control failed to work, the recall repair could not be performed. The failure mileage was 96,000.

Vw 2009 gti 80k miles.solid abs, solid power steering light, solid check engine light, solid traction control, and flashing "brake" lights illuminate on the dashboard occasionally upon turning on the vehicle, accompanied by 3 audible beeps. Steering feels a bit stiff. Speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge affected.dealer has indicated an internal fault in the abs control module requiring complete replacement.vw corporate offices unwilling to provide extended warranty on these common failures. Expensive fix and very dangerous to drive.

I was driving on the freeway when i had to make a sudden stop. My brakes locked up and my abs, brake, and esc lights came on. I tried to regain control but ended up spinning out on the freeway and hitting the guard rail. Had to fix taillight and bumper is scratched. This problem is extremely dangerous because when i was braking i was braking under the impression that my abs system was working correctly and i did not pump the brakes. I was only notified that my abs, esc, and brake were having issues after i was in the panic brake and it was too late to react and start pumping the brakes. The abs, esc, and brake lights turn off after the car is restarted but the problem is still there. I have tried braking hard on wet pavement afterwards to test the issue and the abs, esc, and brake lights turn on again when the abs is supposed to engage. I restart the car and there is no warning that the abs system is having trouble. I began searching for the issue recently and found on a couple forums that many people have been having the same issue. I believe the issue is with the abs control module. This is extremely dangerous and volkswagen needs to recall asap.

Abs module failure. When i drive during snow and winter and my car starts to slide my dash lights up like a christmas tree and beeps loudly. I got kids and don't want to get into an accident with them in the car because of it. Abs doesn't work like it used to. 2k for a fix is definitely not something that i can stomach. Vw needs to step it up before someone gets hurt or killed.

2009 volkswagen gti - abs control module or pump failure.under normal driving conditions, several dash lights came on including "brake" and "abs", as well as being accompanied by beeping.the abs system in the vehicle was no longer active as soon as this happened.once the car was turned off and back on, the lights were gone and abs was active.now, in any inclement weather, this happens and immediately disables the abs, which is a huge safety hazard.volkswagen does not currently acknowledge this issue.

Several 2009 gti owners are reporting that they are having issues with the abs control module. Upon loss of traction, the abs control module can generate a faulty signal, causing the ecu to disable abs, and traction control. This has happened to me several times now especially during the winter when roads are slippery and it is needed most. The following is the common cel code:1 fault found:01130 - abs operation 008 - implausible signal - intermittentaddress 03: abs brakes (-----) labels: 1k0-907-379-60ec1f.clbpart no sw: 1k0 907 379 ae hw: 1k0 907 379 aecomponent: esp mk60ec1 h35 0104.

My vehicle has experienced exactly what nhtsa campaign # 16v913000 and it is the model and year as listed in the campaign. With ignition on and while driving all of a sudden 4-5-possibly 6 lights come on my dashboard a chime starts dinging and the abs, esc, airbag, epc, barke pedal lights illuminate on dash along with either the speedo or tachometer start jumping. Vehicle can be stationary or driving but vehicle must be running.

On 8/8/2014, i turned on my car to go work. Once i turned on the ignition/engine, all warning lights (power steering, engine, electronics, abs, esp and braking) came on or flashing. After several attempts (3 times) to restart the car, the warning lights came on and off periodically. With a last restarting attempt that morning, all warnings lights went away and i drove off to work. In the middle of the way, all warning lights came back on again. This time, power steering, abs, speedometer, gas gauge, etc. All malfunctioned periodically during my drive. During the drive, i had no idea how fast i was driving or how much gas i really had and with no power steering and abs etc. I did arrive at work safely but not without some serious and perhaps dangerous maneuvers with a nonworking power steering, abs, and other electronic components. I took the car to a vw dealership in braintree ma the next morning. After a weekend of diagnosis and a random repair to the ignition switch, the dealership told me it was the abs control module fault and it needed a replacement. Since that vw dealership was not able to give me a precise diagnosis without repairing random parts of my car and had me paid for it, i took the car to another vw dealership in danvers ma. After hours of diagnosis, i got the same result that the abs control module is at fault. I had the dealership replaced the abs control module and paid thousands for the repair. Now the car is running fine. But knowing that the abs control module fault is very common among my model of the car at all mileage from research and talking with local mechanics, i want to make aware of this problem and the dangers behind a random failure in the abs control module that can cause failure of both electronic and mechanic components in the car which can lead to serious accidents, injuries, or even deaths without slightest warning on the road.

Abs module failure after 90k miles. Result in loss of power steering, antilock braking system functionality, and traction control at the same time. Also, prevents speedometer and other gauges from reading accurately. Major safety concern and seems to be an wide issue specific to 2009 vw gti/rabbits. Manufacturer should be responsible for replacement/compensation to owners.

Abs and stability control lights on permanently.brake light blinks always.steering wheel, epc and check engine like all come out intermittently.when steering wheel light is on steering is stiff at low speeds.speedometer only works intermittently.engine fault workshop and please refuel come up randomly on the info screen even when gas is full.when speedometer is not working, automatic dsg transmission will randomly downshift gears making car quickly and dangerously decelerate.has almost caused accidents while driving on wet or snowy roads.car has also locked doors while in park when speedometer not working, locking me out of the car.girlfriend also witnessed it happen while waiting in idling car.

At roughly 11pm at night while driving home from the gym the car started beeping and the epc light came on. Shortly after the abs, check engine light, traction control, brake light(flashing), steering wheel icon, and a message saying engine fault workshop all lit up. I imagine all these lights prompting the car to go into limp mode. My gas gauge stopped working along with the spedometer and the car would only rec about 2k rpms trying to protect itself from further damage(limp mode). Problem would continue on from then. The car won't turn properly as it feels like it's really loose and isn't grabbing the road.

Failed abs module which makes speedometer, abs, traction control not work intermittently.

My car was affected by the 2017 recall for the abs module. I was driving around a corner and hit brakes to slow a little, the abs/traction control/steering light(s) came on and my brakes locked momentarily cause me to slide. I called local dealer to have the recall performed. The dealer stated(and vw america) that because they were unable to pull codes from the module i would need to pay to replace it myself and then they could perform the recall. This is complete and utter stupidity. The module was recalled due to failures. They should cover the complete cost to replace and recode. I was quoted 2100.00my car only has 88,000 miles and well taken care of.

Abs light on and brake light blinking without any reason (sometimes it disappear), dealer said i have to change abs module.

First occurrence abs and traction control lights on dash momentarily while on freeway.second occurrence, city driving, abs, traction control, steering dash lights, dash display "engine faulty workshop" along with beeping sound, speedo wildly fluctuating while driving straight at constant speed around 40 mph, then a couple of seconds later the lights go out and everything appears normal.reading forums of similar issues indicated an expensive replacement of the abs module.car has approx 106k miles.

When i brake sometimes the brakes lock up, abs light comes on, traction control and brake light come on. The lights stay on until ishut off car and restart. Has happened at slow and fast speeds.

When i started the vehicle after it had sat for a week without starting, warning lights appeared for abs, traction control, and brakes. I drove it around the block to test things out, and things seemed to be running pretty much like normal, so i drove it to a mechanic. They ran a diagnostic, and 8 codes came up, all having to do with the abs system. It was determined that the abs control module would need to be replaced. I didn't want to do the repairs at that mechanic, so they told me i could drive the car, but that i wouldn't have abs or traction control. Upon driving it a few miles, the lights turned off, and everything was functioning as normal. When i started it the next day, the lights were back on, but i decided to drive it to work, based on what the mechanic had told me. About a mile down the road, the speedometer stopped working, and the car then began to change gears at random, which presented an all new safety risk. At this point i also lost power steering. I managed to pull over and turn off the car. When i started the car again, just the brake warning lights were on, so i decided to drive home, considering i was only about a mile away. Everything was functioning properly on that drive. My complaint mostly has to do with the abs control module, as it appears that this is a relatively common issue for this model year, and it definitely puts people at risk, especially if it is affecting other systems, as well.

Purchased this car brand new from the dealership. Because i lived in the d.c. Area, i didn't drive it much, so the car today has about 34k miles. A week ago, i was driving on the highway about 65 mph when the brake light and abs came on, along with the three warning dings. Took it to the vw dealership on austin, who diagnosed as abs brake module failure. I found a vw repair shop who would change out the module for $400 less, and i drove it home. Strangely, the lights are off. Based on everything we've found online, this is a serious safety issue for this car. First, the lights should not be shutting off as if the problem has disappeared. Second, a car with this few miles should not have the abs system failing. Vw needs to issue an immediate recall to replace all of these 2009 gti abs modules before someone is killed.

Was traveling on the interstate around a curve during rush hour traffic and had to apply the brakes pretty hard on that curve. The abs activated very shortly and then was followed by the abs light and traction and brake light coming on with an audible chime and the tires then locked up, which then caused the car to start to spin sideways. Luckily was able to correct it before disaster. This has happened on many occasions, basically whenever the abs is engaged, the system is disabled right in the middle of needing it, very dangerous. I do not have the $1,000+ to fix this problem.

Abs control module fails, causing esp and abs system to be disabled until ignition is restarted. Happened over a dozen times during the winter. Fault is noticeable by blinking lights that do not turn off until ignition is restarted. I would usually do this while rolling on the highway, which is not difficult with a manual. Dealer fixed this saying it was a wiring issue by cleaning the module and re-attaching it in the spring for free.the issue started again in may, and the dealer did not acknowledge that the abs sensor faults were related. I started to get the winter blinking light faults again.i paid out of pocket $600 for the part, and about $500 for labor to get the revised module installed, which i saw was the proper fix other dealers were doing for people still under warranty.

The vehicle shifted gears in motion while driving on city streets. Parked the car in may of 2017 and haven't driven it since.vw has refused to take responsibility, even though i've brought the issue of the vehicle having trouble switching to reverse from a parked position while i was at the dealership for service.have received multiple occasions where the abs/check engine light came on. Repeatedly taking it into the dealership to no avail.** note: vw has refused to repair the issues "free of charge" as stated. That i'd have to pay for inspection by a dealership and since i'm 'out of warranty', i'm sure they'd charge me for the service as well.in addition, there was no 'open inspections' done to look into the recall before my purchase of the vehicle as a pre-owned certified car from the vw dealership. This was in dec. 2010.** tried submitting this before, which caused an error and fail. It erased all my data.please review my attached document.

A number of warning lights come on when the car is turned on and sound alarms come on and off while driving. The steering wheel moves on its own at times and the speedometer does not work. I took the car to my local vw dealer located in countryside il (autobarn) knowing that there is a recall on the abs system. The dealer explained that the abs module was not working and needed replacement ($2,400) parts and labor and that the recall did not cover what is wrong with the part.

I purchased my 2009 gti feb 2015 and the carfax was great; however, the abs control module randomly failed about two months later causing lose of steering and control, this occurred while driving in traffic and it was very scary.loud warning beeps went off and warning lights started flashing.the warning lights continued flashing until i turned it off.when i restarted the engine, the warning lights were no longer lit and drove it home.i tested my car again minutes after arriving home.it seemed fine, but then it happened again after just a minute of driving it.i took it to the vw dealer service center.they diagnosed the issue to be the abs module.it needs to be replaced and the cost is $2,260. I called vw and they do not cover the repair costs.this needs to be addressed immediately considering the numerous complaints and the danger this malfunction imposes.

About a month after buying the car during one of the larger snow storms this year in va. I was on my way to work and was stopping at a stop light when i get "christmas lights," on my dash, beeping three times and flashing ecs, as well as abs. I drove to work without huge incident knowing my abs and ecs were turned off at this point, and parked to see if turning the car on and off would reset the lights. I didn't worry until the next morning when on my home after a 12 hour night shift when it happened again, this time i was moving and trying to slow down on ice after the night of snow, as soon as i hit the brake the dashboard lit up again, causing me to slide into a curb, almost hitting another car. I then did some research and found it to be a faulty or bad abs control module, i then took my car into vw a few weeks later to get serviced for the issue, and they could not reproduce the problem. I have since shipped the car to spain while i am here for a couple years and have reproduced the problem without ice, snow, or even water, twice in a week period. Now since my car is not covered under a certified pre owned warranty while in spain i will have to pay out of pocket to get it fixed, something that is obviously a safety issue!here is a link to others who've had the same problem:http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151505as you can see, it is s problem that has been fixed with a new part. Making this a pretty good reason to be recalled.

While taking the kids to school, my traction control light and steering assist light came on followed by the check engine light and a loss of drive.after taking the vehicle to an official vw dealership they spent 2 days diagnosing the 6 pages of faults that came up and informed me that the abs module has failed and will require replacement.

Abs code 16352 present. Car lost consistent electronic steering assistance making for varying steering wheel resistance during turning. Most dash information (speed, fuel gauge, etc.) fluctuated. This issue needs to be addressed for all vw vehicles with abs control module issues, not just some. I brought this to the attention of vw and was told that the specific fault i threw was not covered (under existing recalls) even though all abs control module issues result in eventual failure of dash cluster as well as obvious safety concerns (which is exactly what happened resulting in ongoing costly shop visits).

2009 vw gti. Abs, traction control, brake, epc, cel and steering wheel light come on. 3 beeps sound. Speedometer doesn't work. After searching, this appears to be a common issue with the abs control module. Power steering seems to turn off and on unexpectedly and is quite dangerous while driving. Abs won't work and traction control turns off and on unexpectedly.

While driving the vehicle on street roads and highways the car will shift down into a unknown gear and all lights start flashing putting the car into a neutral that doesn't fix until it's restarted.

I got a recall for the abs module for my 2009 volkswagen gti. When i brought it to volkswagen i was told the recall went through but there is codes that are not covered by the recall. With that being said i have to pay 2,600 dollers for a new abs module. I have done research and it seems to be an issue with most 2009 gti's why hasn't there been a recall on the actual module its self since so many are having issues.

I submitted a complaint last year with complaint #: 10907462. Summary of the unexpected abs module breakdown that happened last year. The module broke down the first time on 09/06/216 on my way to work and it occurred while i was driving on the highway. I slowed down the speed to around 45 after i lost control of the vehicle when it happened and the lights and beeping did not stop with the engine light turned on. The car was eventually towed and repaired (paid out of pocket) at vw dealership. After searching online, the abs module apparently has been a problem on gti and gli jetta. Most recently, there is a recall on the abs modules on certain vw vehicles; however my car was not one of them even though it is the same part that almost caused me a car crash on the highway! please investigate into this problem and have the vw officially extend their qualification for recalls. It is not right to only recall certain vehicles as other care models/years also use the exact same manufacturer defect abs modules!

I was driving around a turn at roughly 60mph on a highway off-ramp during dry conditions when the dashboard chimed and several warning lights illuminated.both the esp and abs lights lit and remained lit continuously, and the brake light began to blink continuously.the car still drove normally, so i continued to drive another five minutes to my home.upon turning off the ignition completely and restarting the car, all three indicator lights were cleared.this same incident occurred on numerous occasions over the following months, during snowy/icy conditions.on any slippery road surface during heavy braking, the three indicator lights would illuminate and the dash would chime.this fault was always cleared by simply restarting the vehicle.however, the abs system never functioned properly; the brakes would simply lock up when this fault occurred.i brought the vehicle to a dealer to have a proper diagnoses completed, at which point it was determined that the abs module was faulty and needed to be replaced.the repair cost was estimated at $1700.00.i contacted vw's corporate north american office several times through phone call and mail, and i was denied coverage or payment assistance, as the vehicle was beyond the bumper-to-bumper warranty.i decided not to worry about the problem until this winter, but last week i had the fault occur again when driving at about 55mph on a wet roadway and hitting my brakes hard to avoid a deer that ran across the road.i was fortunate to miss the deer, but the brakes locked up and the rear-end of the vehicle began to slide around before i let off the brakes.i had another dealer diagnose the issue again, and this time they discovered that the abs pump and module were both faulty.i just had the repair performed at a cost of about $2,450.00.i feel this is a serious safety issue that should warrant a recall.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen gti. While driving various speeds, the antilock brake system (abs) and electronic stability control (esc) warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the abs module malfunctioned and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure continued intermittently until the warning indicators remained illuminated at all times. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, esc). The vehicle was then taken to gunther volkswagen of fort lauderdale (1660 s state rd 7, fort lauderdale, fl 33317, (954) 797-1660) where it was confirmed that the abs module needed replacement. The vehicle was not serviced per the recall because insufficient pcu ground connection was not detected. The manufacturer stated that the module could not be included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Abs control module. Abs light, traction light and blinking e-brake light. No traction control or abs while driving.

Abs, traction control and brake light come on all together.the abs module is failing.this appears to be a rampant problem with many 2009 gti's.the bad module also makes power steering go out, as well as the fuel gauge and speedometer not work.

The abs pump and module died on my '09 vw gti at just over 50000 miles. When abs or traction control is called upon, the systems fail, causing the car to lose control. In my case, it happens every time i hit a snowy or icy patch while driving. Also, the abs, esp, and braking indicator all light up on the dashboard with the braking light flashing and dinging. All maintenance was current on my car. I was not driving excessively when these incidents occurred. Vw wants over $2100 to fix the issue. Volkswagen of america denies there are any problems with the '09 gti abs system, despite numerous reports across the internet, and has refused my request for financial assistance to correct a problem they say makes the car unsafe to operate.

On 11/14/2014, i paid my vw dealer $1102 to have the faulty abs control module replaced. At the time, my car had 72,648 miles on it. Early in 2017, vw announced a recall of some 2009 cars over the safety issue of a faulty abs computer. My car was not listed in this recall- but i believe it should be, and i should be compensated for my repair costs.

Vehicle has a recall for the abs module, i took the car into the vw of murietta california dealer to get the recall taken care of on 1/11/20 and they claimed that they assumed that the module had already been done and they claimed to have contacted vw of america to clear the recall in the system. Then on 4/10/20 i took the vehicle to the same dealer for an unrelated issue and mentioned the still active recall, they then proceeded to tell me that the module was unable to be updated and that i would have to pay an estimate of $1800 to fix the recall. On 4/16/20 i called vw of america to which their response was that vw of murrieta did not have an open claim with them about my vehicle.

Was driving and hit a patch of snow as i brake and my car slid a little and the anti lock brakes did not engaged and i just kept sliding almost hitting a car and all the lights on my dash turned and there was a loud beeping sound.

For several weeks, i noticed occasional misfires upon startup and acceleration. Then, the vehicle began running loudly and consuming a lot of oil. The vehicle also shuddered while driving. One morning, the car shuddered and bucked while i attempted to start it, and ultimately failed to start after several attempts. The engine light illuminated. This is not a battery issue; the battery is only a few months old and was tested in the past few weeks (holds charge at 100%). I have had the car towed to two mechanics and the problem was diagnosed as a timing chain tensioner failure leading to catastrophic engine failure. According to the first mechanic, the entire engine needs to be replaced for approximately $4500. According to the second mechanic, the timing chain tensioner needs replacing and the top half of the engine needs to be repaired, leading to a quote of $2800 for repair. The mechanic stated to me that he has already performed approximately 8 of these repairs on volkswagens in the last year and directed me to investigate a pending new jersey lawsuit against volkswagen for the same issue. This appears to be a common complaint. If my engine had failed while at speed on a roadway it would have been extremely dangerous.

Defective timing chain tensioner went and destroyed the entire engine that has less than 50,000 miles on it.apparently this is a known issue with vw that i found out about after the fact. Luckily it happened in my driveway.

While traveling at 55 mph in sixth gear on the new york state thruway, i suddenly lost power and the engine abruptly turned off.i consequently quickly decelerated and was almost rearendedbefore being able to turn onto the shoulder.i smelled a burning odor and got out of my car.eventually, the vw dealership advised me that the #2 coil had failed and caught fire.consequently, the wiring harness for the ignition coil and plastic cover surrounding the coil had been destroyed by the fire.this is the second incident involving an ignition coil on this vehicle.approximately 12 months ago, the #4 ignition coil failed leading to rapid deceleration as i was driving.this appears to be a chronic problem with the ignition coils that may result in otherwise avoidable accidents.

Timing chain failure 60000 miles; 6 months later engine coils failed.

I was driving on the highway when i reached a speed of 55 mph when my check engine light came on. I took it to a mechanic where the guy told me that the intake manifold had gone bad. I've read multiple threads online and this seems to be a common factor in 2009 gti's it also says they may have extended the warranty for 10yr/120k miles.

Without warning, the abs module in the car failed, giving warning lights on the dash and making the car undriveable. Recall work was pursued with the a vw dealer and volkswagen of america, but the recall work was denied, saying this failure was outside the scope of the recall. Car has not been repaired.

The contact stated that while traveling between 40-60 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted after the failure. The failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times where the dealer confirmed that the ignition coil needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 36,600 and the current mileage was 47,000.

Vehicle has 140,455 miles on it and was well maintained. At approximately 15 mph heard loud sound and had total engine failure. Car was towed to a volkswagen specialist and said that the timing chain threw due to the timing chain tensioner, a common problem for the 2.0 tsi engines from 2008-2012. Minimum for repair would be $4,000 due to bent valves; maximum will be engine replacement (~$9,000). Given car's age and value, neither options are worth fixing and i will have to sell car for parts. After researching online, the timing chain tensioner failure is a common issue with 2.0 tsi engines yet volkswagen did not issue a recall related to the issue.

Secondary air injection hose found taped after vw warranty expired.had taken car in several times to the woodland hills vw dealership after the upc and check engine light appeared to no avail.

Premature engine failure while driving due to a known defective timing chain tensioner which vw has sent a tsb about but refuses to do a recall to replace. Instead they expect customers to pay $1500 to have the newly updated tensioner installed. Engines are failing both under and just out of warranty. Sudden loss of power and control of the engine while driving causing the ability to steer and maneuver the vehicle to a safe stop in traffic.

Two out of the four engine coils went bad at the exact same moment causing the car to loose two out of four cylinders. This made the engine not able to idle or run.had this happened while trying to clear an intersection or say merging on a highway the result could be catastrophic. Vw insists that this is normal wear and tear and not even covered by it's 5-year 60k mile power train warranty. Even though these coils that provide spark to the engine, and vital to it's safe operation, they insist that are only covered by the vehicle's 3-year 36-k mile warranty. Looking at vw chat logs it clear that this has been an ongoing problem with vw gti for numerous years and needs to revisited for the 2009 model year.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen gti. When starting the vehicle, the ignition switch failed to make noise occasionally before the vehicle started. The vehicle was taken to dealer where it was diagnosed that the intake manifold needed replacement. The contact also stated that the vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic for the same failure in april of 2014. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was120,800.

I purchased my 2009 vw gti on 5/6/09 with 217 miles on it. These are the instances that have occurred so far:1)on 5/11/2009 at 610 miles the check engine light came after revving on its own. It returned a code p0171 'system too lean' which once again points to the intake. I was without my car for 1 day.2)on 2/5/2010 at 19,743 miles the check engine light came on after strange idle speed symptoms. They replaced my intake manifold. I was without my vehicle for 7 days.3)on 3/29/2010 at 22,114 miles the epc light came on and had to drive 30 miles back to the dealership on 2 cylinders. Wiring was repaired per tbs #2018652. I was without my car for 2 days.4)on 9/16/2010 at 32,910 miles the check engine light came on after once again strange idle symptoms. It returned a code p2015, germany was called, everyone was baffled, and they reset the computer. I was without my vehicle for 5 days.5)on 12/21/10 at 35,201 miles the check engine light came on, car was revving on its own. They replaced the intake manifold. I was without my vehicle for 3 days6)on 3/26/2011 at 37k the car was revving on its own, and after 10 minutes the check engine light came on again. I returned a code p0507 'idle air control system rpm higher than expected' which once again is pointing at the air intake. So far i have been without my car for 3 days.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen gti. The contact stated while traveling 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact was able to merge to the side of the road to restart the vehicle where it began to function normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that the fuel pump had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the issue. The failure mileage was 89,000 and the current mileage was 190,000.

2009 volkswagen gti is having constant intermittent ignition and fuel pump issues on start up stationary and will shutdown in motion while in reverse or drive gear positions . Vehicle is serviced regularly on scheduled maintenance intervals. Volkswagen dealer will only repair issue at the cost of $624.91. Volkswagen of america has been contacted but has offered no assistance with the issue.

Experiencing several safety issues with vw dsg transmission in my 2009 gti.first, shifting into park.when shifting from either reverse or drive into park on a hill, vehicle rolls 3 feet and then hits a hard "stop".second, very hard downshifting/engine braking in automatic mode when slowing down.this happens at 20 mph and then again at 10 mph.if you are applying the brakes when this engine braking happens it is impossible to stop at a desired point.you can be smoothly applying the brake and then when you slow to 20 mph the engine braking drastically slows the vehicle even more.it's like shifting into a lower gear at too high a speed while simultaneously applying the brakes.very dangerous!third, lurch/surge when starting on a hill.when backing out of a spot on a hill or starting forward on a hill having just put the vehicle in drive the engine revs for 3 seconds as if it is not in gear and then lurches suddenly forward.

Defective timing chain tensioner went and destroyed the entire engine that has less than 50,000 miles on it.apparently this is a known issue with vw that i found out about after the fact. Luckily it happened in my driveway.

After purchasing a new 2009 gti i noticed some hesitation in the car upon take off/slow down.i took the vehicle directly to the dealership and was told that this was normal for this car and its dsg transmission.i later in the year took it back with the same result.i also contacted vw customer care and was given a case number but no one ever called me back and i was once again was referred back to my local dealership via email.this is a serious safety hazard!my wife has just taken the gti again, sept.6th, 2011 and after 3 days with the gti we received the same response - "this is normal for dsg transmission".this is not normal!!!!our best description of the safety hazard.when driving the vehicle in sport (s) mode it will often hesitate to pull off from a stop.when attempting to pull out into traffic and this occurs there is about a two second delay from the time the accelerator pedal is depressed to finally taking off.we have observed the tachometer when this problem occurs (without any approaching traffic, and the rpms barely go beyond idle even though the accelerator is pressed down 1/4 to 1/2 way down.when the car does finally take off, it is abruptly, due to the fact that the accelerator pedal is depressed already.when attempting to pull into traffic or turn across it, this delay and then abrupt response could result in serious injury or worse to us or the occupants of my vehicle.please help us as corporate vw and our local dealership don't care about our safety or the safety of others and its just a matter of when a serious accident occurs because of this safety hazard.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

While driving down a rural highway in clear conditions and light traffic,at about 45 mph, several lights came on the dash, and the tachometer started jumping up and down i had no acceleration, and was lucky to be in a place to get off the road.i don't recall if i touched the brakes or not just before this happened, as it is sometimes necessary when driving with other cars on the road, but there was no hard braking. I was just driving normally. If i touched them at all, it would have been lightly,.the car would start fine but no gears. Towed to dealership. Their report said "small metal shards about the size of a grain of sand" in the trans fluid, and "it appears the transmission commuter did not disengage the clutch in use as it engaged the clutch for the next gear and tried running the vehicle in two gears at the same time at cruising speed., which in turn damaged the transmission internally and destroyed the dual clutch friction discs."i recently found out that there is a recall for the abs module on my vehicle. Another driver (nhtsa id 10944646) indicated that when his abs module failed, that his vehicle randomly downshifts to first gear, and is unable to switch back. He said "what starts as a simple brake problem is now an undriveable car". Is this what happened to my car? could my abs module failure cause the transmission to downshift while travelling at 45 mph? should the transmission repair be included in the abs recall program? this was a very dangerous situation, and i had no warning before it happened. Also, it was very hot out, about 90 degrees, if temperature plays a role in this situation. I am making an appointment to have the abs issue repaired under the recall, but volkswagon is taking no responsibility for the transmission failure. They said it is out of warranty.i think they may be related, and customers need to know if this is a possibility.

I took my car to gunther volkswagen in ft lauderdale, fl. My automatic dsg transmission was not shifting into gear on many occasions as i was driving, parking stopped at a light. On several occasions this problem had resulted in some near accidents with other cars, and on two occasions i had hit a pole and a wall. The near accidents with cars had occurred in parking situations as well as on the street at traffic lights when my car would not move and cars behind me almost hit me. Another occasion my car would not move when i was at an intersection waiting for traffic to clear to turn left, and the light changed. When this problem was occurring the shift indicator letters in the electronic display would flash with boxes around them.it was discovered by the dealer that the transmission problem i was having was the subject of a voluntary recall by volkswagen. I was told that the mechatronic unit of my transmission would be replaced under this voluntary recall as well as the other fuse recall. Later in the day i was called by car dealership and they informed me that the fuse recall work would be done but the transmission recall would not be done because my car had a rebuilt title. The car had been in an accident where it sustained damage to right front suspension and insurance company had paid out claim and declared vehicle a total loss. I bought "salvaged" vehicle and repaired damage for under $1,000 and retitled (rebuilt) vehicle under florida law. According to what i have read on nhtsa website if vehicle is on the road and being driven around manufacturers are required to perform recall repairs on them. The recall on this transmission issue was subject of an investigation by nhtsa (action number peo9035) several accidents had occurred because of it but no injuries were reported. Can you please advise if vw is required to repair my vehicle under this voluntary recall?

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen gti. While driving 15 mph and coming to a stop, the vehicle jerked forward without warning and the contact heard a loud noise coming from the transmission. After coming to a stop, the vehicle was not able to move and the gear selector lights were illuminated. The vehicle was shut off and restarted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,500.

2009 89,000 miles. Abs control module failure for the past couple of weeks my car would intermittently throw up the abs and traction lights but this would go away shortly afterwards. I get in my car about 30 minutes and start driving for maybe 1/16th of a mile and everything just freaks out. Speedometer is dropping to zero (while in motion doing about 15 mph) and fluctuates all over between 0 and 20 mph. Brake light is on. Traction light is on. Abs light is on. Steering light is on. Epc light is on. Check engine light is on. And the mfd is saying "engine fault workshop". As time has gone on it now tends to happen atleast 15+ times a day. It now happens as soon as i turn the key on. I'm to scared to even drive it. I don't want to drive my 10 year old son in it. Please do a recall, not something we should have to pay out of pocket for!!!

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen gti. While at a stop light, the vehicle stalled and all of the warning indicators illuminated. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was repaired according to nhtsa campaign number: 09v333000 (power train); however, the failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician stated that the dsg gear box needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 51,000.

My prnds lights flashing. When i put car in d or r nothing happens. Acts like its in neutral. Happened while driving 65mph on why. Fix this problem now.

My car disengages itself when shifting in reverse i give it gas it suddenly catches gear and almost caused an accident. 2009 volkswagen gti. Volkswagen dealer will not take responsibility for this recall telling me there are non but when checked on the nhtsa website there is.direct shift gearbox dsg recall#09v333000

Problem occurred occasionally, mostly when the speed was around 0-30mph. The transmission seemed to have a problem in upshifting/downshifting between 1st-3rd gear. While acceleration from stationary, there was a lag in upshifting from 1st-2nd-3rd gear. Sometimes it did not upshift at all. When you released the accelerator and re-applied it again, it would be back to normal. While downshifting from 2nd to 1st gear, it seemed like being pushed by something from the back.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen gti. While the vehicle was idling, the rpms revved to a higher level and an oil leak was noticed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear main seal was leaking, which caused the vehicle to surge. The check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen gti. The contact stated that the abs brake module malfunctioned. Several years ago, the vehicle was taken to be repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (power train) by heritage volkswagen parkville (9215 harford rd, parkville, md 21234, (877) 398-1963). After a couple of days, the dealer refused to perform the recall repairs because the vehicle was showing the incorrect failure codes. The contact received a second recall notice in the mail and was informed by the dealer that the vehicle would be repaired. The contact stated that the brakes started grinding and twitching and the entire instrument panel illuminated. In addition, the speedometer stopped working, the steering became loose, and the vehicle stopped accelerating after the accelerator pedal was initially depressed. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer and they stated that the repairs would be covered; however, they later called the contact back stating the recall repairs would not be covered. The incorrect failure codes were vag00290 (driver's side rear abs wheel speed sensor with mechanical function) and vag00285 (passenger side front abs speed sensor). The contact stated that she received a letter from the dealer that the recall had to match two of the specific codes, which was why the recall repairs were not performed. The contact was instructed to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that they would contact the dealer. The contact received the run around for a week with both the dealer and manufacturer, stating they were waiting to hear from each other. Recently, the contact was informed that the recall repairs would not be performed and the contact made arrangements to have the vehicle repaired by an independent mechanic. The failure mileage was 110,000.

Purchased used 2009 vw gti with dsg transmission on 03 aug 13.on 06 aug 13 upon braking and turning a corner the transmission seemingly dropped out of gear, engine revved freely, the transmission re-engaged with a loud clunk in the driveline.over the next week the frequency of this same problem happening increased until 12 aug 13.on 12 aug 13 the transmission would take several seconds(upwards of 30) to engage either 1st or reverse and in doing so would again clunk on engagement.also, while driving on a state highway at 55 mph the transmission downshifted to an unknown gear, the lights on the shift indicator started to flash, and the transmission would not shift.had to pull to the shoulder and turn off the engine and restart to continue.within one mile the same process had to be repeated.this continued for the rest of the 10 mile trip to my home.this car is one that was affected by the recall.the recall has been performed on this car but obviously still has issues.car will be taken to a dealership on 16 aug 13 to have it diagnosed.

This problem relates to thevolkswagen 2009 dsg transmission available on several 2009 models.mine is a 2009 gti.it has occurred several time since purchase 3 weeks ago.from time to time the transmission will unexpectedly shift into neutral.the gear shift lights on the dash flash.this can happen while standing at a stop light or while at speed. The problem seems to be largely unknown by dealers, but is now well documented by owners.some owners have now had the problem resolved.a discussion of the problem can be found at:http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=235168&page=9like many owners, i have had the car in for diagnostics.no problem was found.don howsongrapevine, tx

My car was purchased approximately 3 weeks ago. I first noticed an issue during the first week when around 20 minutes into my journey on the florida turnpike at 70 mph where my gti's rpm's suddenly swung around to the top for about 2 seconds, i did not notice a loss of power due to the time. This happened again the following week at exactly the same spot!my husband was then driving the vehicle 2 days later (the date listed as incident date), we were in traffic with foot on brake when car jumped and dashboard prnds lights all flashed around 5-6 times.the following day, about 20 minutes into journey at 40 mph, the car disengaged gears and rpm counter went up to top again - perhaps 2-3 seconds.we decided to take car to dealership the next day (monday aug 10), (the car did the same thing again on the way). We were called that day to say that they could not duplicate the issue. The next day, we were told that an inquiry was open with vw tech and called later to say it was a sensor issue and would be 2-3 days.on the thursday evening, i was called to say it was a megatronic unit and would be 30 days - i requested a new car as i had only had this for 3 weeks and was told a manager would call me on friday. The same service consultant called me on friday and said they had worked late with vw tech and decided that it was not megatronic but a temperature sensor. The car remains at the dealership and i have been told it should be ready next friday. I am not sure that the dealership or vw tech are sure themselves what this problem is.

My 2009 vw gti with dsg very briefly lost power while attempting to accelerate on the highway.the engine revved, but the transmission felt as if it were not in gear.this lasted 2-3 seconds, during a merge.had there been fast-moving traffic closer behind, i could have easily been rear-ended.lifting off the accelerator and re-applying seemed to get the car back in gear.this was the only occurrence.the car has not been taken for service; i am submitting this complaint in response to the nhtsa's investigation into vw's dsg.

Purchased 2009 vw gti with dsg transmission in october 2008. Transmission seemed fine until about 7000 miles. Dsg started to have jerky/hard shifts in lower gears 1/2/3 and below 10mph would have surging during light acceleration or coasting to stop. From stopped position would also jerk forward with only a slight throttle input. Problems seems to be only after the car has been driven15-20 minutes and gets hot. When the car is cold it drives normal. Symptoms also seem worse during bumper to bumper traffic when more demand on lower gears and more heat. There is sometimes a noticeable clunking sound when dsg is down shifting from 2-1 and sometimes after the car has come to a stop and need to creep forward (still in 1st gear) will get the clunking sound and like the car almost stalls. All these symptoms happen in either d/s/m mode but reverse gear has no problems.have asked the vw dealer where i bought the car about this problem and they say they can not reproduce the symptoms.

I bought my 2009 vw gti in january of this year (6 months ago).it now has 5100 miles.at about 2500 miles, the dsg automatic transmission started slipping out of gear at seemingly random times.it only happened a couple of times before my 3000 mile checkup.at that time,vw could not replicate the problemandtold me that the car was "operating within specifications."in the last couple of weeks the problem has become a lot more frequent -- happening several times per day at seemingly random times (in parking lots and on the jersey turnpike).when it happens, it acts like i am holding in the clutch on an automatic (no gears at all) and the prindl light on the dashboard flashes. Once, the shift lever also froze and i could not shift out of drive.the only way to get back into gear is to restart the car - and vw tells me that this also resets the fault indicator so that they can diagnose the problem.this problem causes a safety hazard -- losing all power to the engine when i am trying to merge into traffic or in a crowded place where i cannot coast to a safe place to stop and restart the car is extremely dangerous. The general shifting of the car in low gears is also somewhat jerky, but this problem pales in comparison to the complete loss of power at random times.

I purchased the car in the beginning of july 2009, noticed weird shifting but figured it was part of car break in process.now i notice it happen almost daily.the car shifts harshly during acceleration and deceleration.it jerks forward a lot during bumper to bumper traffic.lately the car will hesitate when going from complete stop to forward then "buck" forward.

The car had been driven for ~20 minutes, then sat for ~45 minutes, and then was driven for an additional 20 minutes before the event occurred, leading me to believe that the engine and transmission were both up to normal operating temperature.the vehicle was exiting a right hand turn and accelerating when the engine rev's shot up to redline and there was no power going to the wheels, only forward momentum kept the car going.it was as if the car was suddenly put into neutral.the indicator on the display was still indicating that the car was in drive.the car was then pulled over to the side of the road, and while still in drive, when the gas pedal was pressed only the rev's shot up with no power to the wheels, exactly as it would in neutral.the ignition was switched off and back on, and the car then operated normally.this was a brand new car with less than 200 miles on it.it has only happened one time.we are currently not driving the vehicle.i'm not sure if this is considered a automatic or manual transmission, but it was a dsg transmission.i will submit it as automatic.

The mechatronic unit in my dsg transmission was found to be defective. It would cause the car to shudder and jerk back and forth when starting from a dead stop. It would also do the same thing while in reverse.

At the time of the incident i had been driving for about 20 minutes in moderate traffic on a city street.i stopped at a red light nb at a busy 5 way intersection on a curve. The gear selector was in d. When the light turned green i applied the gas pedal lightly and the car did not move forward.the engine rpms increased but the car made no forward progress.i then attempted to put the car in neutral and back into drive.also i put the car into s and tiptronic modes as well.none of these actions produced any effect.the only change that i noticed was that the lighted gear indicators next to the shifter flashed "prnds".because i was on a curve traffic approaching from the rear was not able to see me.as a result i activated the hazard flashers.cars were having to drive around me but fortunately a man in a pickup parked behind me and helped me push my car out of the lane of traffic.after getting the car into a safe spot i turned it off and upon restarting the car it functioned normally.

I own a new 2009 vw gti, dsg, 2-door. I had it just over a month and has about 1100 miles on it. About 2 weeks ago, i parked in my condo and was in "park" and noticed the gear shift lights on the display (p-r-n-d-s) were flashing/blinking. I turned off key and next day everything was fine. About 3-4 days later the same thing happened while in "park" at my house. Again, next day everything was fine. Today, i was at a traffic light in "drive" with the foot on the brake and noticed the gear shift lights on the display were blinking again. When the light turned green, i stepped on the accelerator but nothing happened. The car was running, all power (radio, lights, etc) were operating fine, but it was like the car was in neutral. I shifted into park, reverse, neutral, then drive, and it did not correct the problem. I then turned the car off for 5 seconds then back on and it worked fine. I did research online and on multiple car forums, many others have had this problem recently as well. Most have had their mechatronic module replaced, some have had their shifter assembly sensor replaced and some have had the transmission temperature sensor replaced. This could posea serious threat of injury or death if this happens while someone, including myself, are turning into or from an intersection and the car goes into this "false neutral" stage with no accelerator to get out of the way of any traffic. Please file this complaint and hopefully vw might issue a recall which is seriously needed for this problem. Thank you!

I purchased my 2009 vw gti in august of 2008 and have been using it as my daily driver since its purchase.not knowing the technicalities and specifications of the dsg transmission i drove the car as usual until after having the car for 2 or 3 months when i went to start the car the prnds was flashing in the dash and the key would not turn to unlock (i could attempt to start it though) nor would it remove from the ignition.after 3 failed attempts to start it i got out of the car and returned an hour later to start it and it worked without any problems.i made an appointment with my dealer and they "fixed the issue" my replacing a magnetic sensor in the triptronic unit.i drove the car as usual for a few months and everything was fine (or so i thought).i had a friend ride with me who owns another vw with a dsg transmission and he commented on how bad the shifts were and how it rode bad, so i began to investigate the issues (this being the only dsg car i have driven i did not know my car was driving bad).turns out the car had a faulty mechatronic unit that was causing my car to have rough shifts, "lurching" motions while in 1st gear and reverse, and then would feel as though the car was going to stall and cut out.i had become accustomed to driving the car as such and had to take extra precautions when parallel parking so my car wouldn't "lurch" and hit the car on either side while parallel parking.you can read about multiple other people with the same problem with a late model vw gti (particularly 2008 and 2009) on a vw enthusiast forum:http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=988.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen gti which was purchased in 2009. She stated that while the vehicle was in drive the gear would slip into neutral and would not respond to the accelerator as it should. She had repairs performed on the vehicle twice under nhtsa campaign id number, 09v333000,power train:automatic transmission to no avail. The failure occurred more than three times. No repairs were made to actually correct the failure to date.the current and failure mileages were under 13,055.

Driving on highway in drive at 65 miles an hour.the gear shift indicator symbols started to flash and the vehicle appeared to be in neutral.step on the gas and the rpm's go up but i was not moving.i almost got hit from behind by a tractor trailer that was moving at constant speed while i was quickly decelerating without the ability to accelerate.i had to pull over to the side of the road and turn the vehicle off for approximately 5 minutes, before i could get the vehicle to accelerate.even than it ran rough and not like it did before.the same thing happened the night before but i was on a side road going 40 miles an hour. The vehicle is only a month old and has 1300 miles.today is sunday unable to contact dealer for repairs.

The dsg transmission randomly goes into neutral. Happened to me on the highway, had to stop the car, and turn it off to put the car back in gear. Luckily i was next to the shoulder already since i was taking the car in to the dealership for this problem.

Abs control module is well known to go out, very dangerous and expensive fix for low miles, not able to see speed, no traction control, and causes brake lock up during wet weather

While taking the kids to school, my traction control light and steering assist light came on followed by the check engine light and a loss of drive.after taking the vehicle to an official vw dealership they spent 2 days diagnosing the 6 pages of faults that came up and informed me that the abs module has failed and will require replacement.

While accelerating onto highway, multiple warning lights came on in the instrument cluster."esp" light on solid, "abs" light on solid and "handbrake" light flashing.i pulled off the highway turned the car off then back on and lights disappeared.after research online i found hundreds of other owners with similar issues.the problems stems from a faulty abs control module where repairs costs thousands of dollars.when this part fails the vehicle has no ability to use abs system or traction control system.this is a major safety system with in the car.the number of owners experiencing this problem leads me to believe this is a wide spread issue with the part used within the system.

2009 volkswagen gti abs control module failure. This appears to be a common problem. Driving down the highway and complete system failure occurred. Numerous dash board annunciator lights and loss of speedometer.

When the speedometer drops to 0 mph, the engine rpms increase. Finally, the car sputters and bucks when attempting to accelerate rapidly, and steering feels a bit stiff. The dealer has indicated an internal fault in the abs control module.

Solid light in dashboard / abs in orange / brake in red with 3 beeps everytime i turn on the carsometimes gets complicated eith epc light and "take to the shop" engine mslfunction

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen gti. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle pulled to the right with an abnormal vibration felt in the brake pedal. The abs warning light was illuminated. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). The vehicle was taken to young volkswagen located at 191 commerce park dr, easton, pa 18045, (610) 991-9100, however, the recall repair was not performed. The vehicle was also taken to ciocca volkswagen of allentown located at 1346 lehigh st, allentown, pa 18103, (610) 890-7050, where an unknown software update was performed however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

Abs module failure after 100k miles. Three chimes, "engine fault workshop" warning comes up, warning lights for abs, esp, steering, brakes, everything. Happens randomly, often on turns, goes back to normal after a while except for abs and check engine lights. Apparently this is a standard problem for this year/model.

As i am driving or accelerating, not braking or otherwise slowing down, i get a warning beep and then the abs light comes on and the 'brake' light on the dashboard starts flashing.this has happened twice in the past 3 months.the lights go off when the car is shut down and restarted.when i reported the second incident to the dealer, they reported that the abs module is failing and that lack of repair could cause the brakes to lock or otherwise fail in the case of a sharp or severe stop.after doing research online, i have found that this issue is endemic among 2009 vws, particularly gtis and there are known instances of crashes as a result of brake failure.vw has not issued a recall for this part (made by bosch) and they have in some cases replaced the part at no cost to the owner, but there is a lack of communication/admission from the manufacturer that the issue even exists! i have a filed a complaint online with vw directly and hope that there is some movement in this case--that it will be covered and that there will be some public mention of this problem.

I have a 2009 volkswagen gti and my abs lights are on as well as engine workshop fault, three beeps, check engine, epc and traction control and brake light. This is a common problem with the make and model and year of vehicle. This should be recalled upon asap. This is a serious safety issue.

While driving lights flashing, speedometer stops working ,fuel gauge stops working. Steering wheel moves funny. There is a recall on the program that they installed but now they just say that the unit needs to be replaced. They are asking 2400.00 for the repair but there are many complaints on the internet from many owners.

Failed abs module which makes speedometer, abs, traction control not work intermittently.

The abs modules are failing on 2009 gti's and possibly more years. Abs, traction control, and esp lights up and stays on for the rest of the drive, and the car has no traction control or abs. Its incredibly dangerous because it happens while turning or braking, and halfway through the brakes lock up sending the car into a twirl.

Turning right from a stop. Car's abs failed at approximately 5 mph and continued to stay off until the engine was turned off and restarted. The abs light disappeared until next turn at approximately 10 mph when abs failed again. Issue has persisted in any type of inclement weather over the past 10 months.

Driving at speed, the abs control module randomly fails, causing abs brakes to skid under hard braking. Lose of steering and control is the result. In addition the partial steering is affected. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen, i can not understand why volkswagen of american does not replace faulty units as this can cause fatalities and injuries. Many people are replacing these units through non-certified technicians, or diy. This should be installed by a vw certified tech. Nhtsa should mandate a recall or someone could get seriously injured or die. There are so many cases of this floating around the internet forums and other social media. Does someone have to die for people to finally listen?????

Faulty abs control module. Abs and traction control lights go solid, brake light blinks, whenever abs kicks in (happens anytime it snows). Then the abs will not work again until the car is shut off and turned on again. Vw you need to fix this, or people will die in accidents because of no abs!! my car only has 40,500 miles.

16v913. The manufacture has failed to cover the cost of replacing the abs module. The reason given was that although my vin is covered, the abs module part number is not on the list of parts that are covered. My car has experienced all the symptoms of recall number 16v913 and the software update did not fix the issue.

The abs pump module fails on 2009 cars regularly.the abs, stability control and traction control no longer functions and volkswagen refuses to do anything about it.took my car to the dealer when it was under warranty for them to look at and all they could say was is that they could not duplicate the problem.now it is out of warranty and the issue is constant to the point where i do not drive the car due to the speedometer and steering being affected by this issue.the car was on the highway and when the brakes were hard pressed the car skidded.

Abs light comes on while driving, along with e brake light, traction control light. Dealer says it's the abs module. Car has 33,400 miles. Abs light will go off after restarting but will keep going into the fault code out of the blue while driving. Car will skid if excessive braking is needed. Dangerous for owner and other people. Abs module should be recalled but again with vw current situation with diesels it's no wonder they won't backup a defective abs module.

Without warning, the abs module in the car failed, giving warning lights on the dash and making the car undriveable. Recall work was pursued with the a vw dealer and volkswagen of america, but the recall work was denied, saying this failure was outside the scope of the recall. Car has not been repaired.

I was driving on the canyon and went into a turn at 40mph. I heard a beep and my abs, brake and traction control lights all went on at once. The lights stayed on but the parking brake light flashed. The car felt weird while driving and i was afraid to keep driving so i pulled over and turned the car off. After checking the codes through my vagcom cable i had a 01130 - abs operation code. The lights went away after i turned the car off and on but this same issue kept happening throughout the canyon until i arrived at my destination. I stopped pulling over and just drove with the lights carefully all the way home. The abs seems to be turned off as this malfunction occurs. This is dangerous especially on wet roads and on canyons. I tried contacting vw of america and they said they do not cover this problem. They wanted $2000+ for the replacement of the abs control module. I think this is not fair and should be a recall. This issue is known for all 2009 vw gti's. Many 2009 gti's have faulty abs units. I hope this will be looked into and hopefully vwoa will start a recall campaign. Thank you for reading.

Abs control module failure developed after 100,000 miles.

When braking in slippery conditions, the abs light, brake light, and traction control lights come on and the abs ceases to function, allowing the brakes to lock up and the car to slide. The lights reset when the car is turned off and on but the failure happens every time abs should be engaged. Effectively, the abs does not work.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen gti. While driving 5 mph and turning the steering wheel, the power steering failed. Various warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the abs module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

Flashing brake light, with abs and stability control warning lights. Abs and stability control no longer function. Believed to be failed abs module.

Abs control module fault. Several times my brake light warning has come on, suddenly, and have lost abs function and lost braking power while driving.very scary on highway. Vw shop found 7 different fault codes and could not gain response or contact with the control module. It is essentially dead now whenever i turn on car. I have read dozens of complaints online about similar problems with other 2009 vws. Since this has happened after my extended 60,000 mile warranty (68,000miles now) vw will not cover issue despite it being endemic. Please investigate, this is dangerous and needs to be covered by the company and recalled to keep people safe.

I have just started to encounter problems with my abs module. I receiveda recall on the module and took it in to an authorized volkswagen dealer asap. Left the car with them for a day in hope to receive news that they were going to order my module and have it completed in a few days. I was wrong. They called me and claimed that it was not going to be covered in the recall. I don't understand how something so critical to the safety of everyone on the road will not be replaced, even when there is a recall on the part. My car absolutely freaks out while driving. I lose my speedometer, my steering is not as responsive as it should be and my dash cluster freaks out. I'm personally scared to drive my own car because i do not want to kill or injure other people or myself while driving the car i need to get around to work, and run daily errands. I scanned my check engine light with multiple people and systems and received a code u0121 which read connection failure in abs module and was told the module most likely does not have ground. This has happened to so many 09 vw vehicles, yet i've read so many forums and have talked to so many other 09 vw owners who said their cars "did not qualify" for this recall as well. The dealer quoted me 1,300 to fix this issue. I'm lost at words on how i have a recall on an obvious problem which is a manufacture error and i have to pay 1,300 to replace it or good luck with whatever accident you many get in. This has happened on freeways, city streets, and the scariest part is coming down the mountain which i have to drive 5 days out of the week for work. This a problem with these cars and only a few are being taken care of while the rest have to pay or goodluck.

Abs, traction control and brake light come on all together.the abs module is failing.this appears to be a rampant problem with many 2009 gti's.the bad module also makes power steering go out, as well as the fuel gauge and speedometer not work.

Abs module has been known to be defective on this model year volkswagen gti. Some vins are not covered under a recall even though it uses the same abs system and abs module that has been known to be defective. All vins that use this abs module should be covered under this recall as this is a safety hazard.

Abs module is going out, causing the traction control to turn off , engine light to turn on, assisted steering to turn off and abs to turn off. It is all intermediate turing off an on. These will all turn on and off while driving and or parked. Highway or in town.

Instrument panel displays check engine light, steering light, abs light, traction control light, brake light, tire pressure light. Abs no longer works in a hard brake situation, wheels lock and car will skid. Engine also refuses to rev past around 3900 rpm unless manually upshift to a higher gear. Steering assist no longer works.

The vehicle severely wondered under hard braking without any alarm being triggered before the incident. Only after the incident, abs and red brake light went on. As a result of the incident, the abs control module and pump were replaced. The abs system does not appear to be designed as a fail-safe system which does not seem good engineering practice.

The bosch abs brake pump has failed.this causes the brakes to lose abs and traction control capability in the event of hard braking event. This issue re-sets with every ignition cycle and suddenly re-appears during the braking event. This has happened to me three times, 1st time was complete surprised and spun 360 degrees in the road, luckily no one was around.vw diagnosed issue, $2500, refused to pay or acknowledge this is an issue, despite many complaints.in the past two months, i have slid across two lanes of traffic over a curb thru a business front yard, luckily no damage to me or vehicle.next i slid again, when the brakes failed and hit a curb, $1500 damage to my car.vw again has refused to pay for the brake pump failure. There are many complaints on gti blogs, vw cares twitter account.in some cases vw has paid for have consumer vehicle fixed, but in my case they denied twice.once before and once after i had an accident.my vw case manager said my claim was denied, no real reason.i live in michigan, so our winters are long and snow filled, i fear everytime i get on the road in could be my last.i won't let my family drive this car.i don't want me or some else to die because of this issue.during the event, the brakes completely lock up, leaving the driver with no control in what must be an situation if you were braking hard to begin with.i find this issue to much much worse than their diesel rigging scheme.this failure will actually kill people.vw has also had bosch improve or fix this issue on later gti models.i can't understand why an issue like this is not recalled.one lost life is too many.

Vw 2009 gti 80k miles.solid abs, solid power steering light, solid check engine light, solid traction control, and flashing "brake" lights illuminate on the dashboard occasionally upon turning on the vehicle, accompanied by 3 audible beeps. Steering feels a bit stiff. Speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge affected.dealer has indicated an internal fault in the abs control module requiring complete replacement.vw corporate offices unwilling to provide extended warranty on these common failures. Expensive fix and very dangerous to drive.

Abs , traction light, and brake light went on during driving. Many 2009 volkswagen gtis have the same problem. Its known an koabs module and pump defective.

Abs light on and brake light blinking without any reason (sometimes it disappear), dealer said i have to change abs module.

When i brake sometimes the brakes lock up, abs light comes on, traction control and brake light come on. The lights stay on until ishut off car and restart. Has happened at slow and fast speeds.

Driving on highway 34 from greeley co towards loveland co at speed limit of 65. I applied the breaks to adjust my speed for traffic, as i applied the breaks the abs control module failed causing wheels to lock up causing the loss of control of the car. After a moment i was in a ditch with bent wheels and body damage to my gti from the speed limit and mile markers signed i stuck. Most likely these two post were probably what kept the car from rolling and killing me. Police and insurance have been informed of the crash.

I bought this gti used from a fabulous vw dealer with 55,000 miles on it. I've owned the vehicle roughly six or seven months and under hard braking, sharp turns/maneuvers or quick acceleration i would randomly get the abs, traction control and flashing e-brake light illuminated in my gauge cluster. These warning lights would stay on until the ignition was switched off and when the car was restarted would go away.while driving home from work yesterday, now with 62,000 miles, i applied the brakes while going 45-50 miles an hour. The car that was a good 6 car lengths in front of me had slammed on their brakes so i had ample room to come to a stop. After applying the brakes all of my wheels locked up and my car began to spin out of control off the road. After spinning twice my car came to rest on the shoulder facing the opposite direction. The car came to rest not more than a foot from a 30 or 40 foot steep unguarded grade. Had the car gone any further i might have been severely injured, or worse, killed. The same lights were illuminated on the gauge cluster. After gathering my nerve and driving home i parked the car in my drive way. Turned it off and turned it back on. Again, all the warning lights were gone.i did some online research and found numerous accounts of this issue indicative of the 2009 model year vw's but no recall has been issued. Vw customer service stated that they would not cover any costs which i reject as i feel that i should not have to pay the hefty fee of replacing and recoding the abs module as it shouldn't have failed to begin with.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen gti. While driving unknown speeds, the brake pedal was applied, but failed to respond. Additionally, the brake pedal warning indicator was flashing. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,663.

Abs module and pump is faulty, which seems to be the case with many other volkswagen gti specific to the 2009 year. This causes the abs and traction control to not work, along with loss of power steering, no or faulty reading on speedometer and gas gauge at any speed in both city and highway driving. Cornering is very difficult as the power steering is turned off.incredibly dangerous and should be addressed and fixed by vw of america.

My vehicle was in motion slowing down to a red light when the abs, traction control, and break lights came on at the same time. I ran diagnostics and all 4 abs sensors failed. This leads me to believe there might be a problem with the grounding connection or the entire abs module is faulty. This is a huge safety concern because the car may think the tires are skidding on dry pavement, compute a false positive, and cause a serious accident. My car has been in the dealership for almost two weeks and i was provided no loaner car in the mean time. Attached you will find diagnostics reports when i went to the dealership and price repairs, vws own website results for recalls under my vin number, vw actual specific recall policy, and the nhtsa results confirming there is an open recall for my specific vin number. Vw action code is 45f2. Nhtsa recall number is 16v913.

I was driving under normal conditions on dry city street at approximately 25 mph, when suddenly a loud warning tone went off and 3 warning lights (abs, traction control, and brake) started flashing. This was in heavy two-way traffic and it was terrifying to think these systems had failed. Fortunately i was able to pull over and stop safely. The warning lights continued flashing until i turned off the engine. When i restarted the engine, the warning lights were no longer lit, so i thought it might have been some type of fluke. But to be safe i brought it to my vw dealer service center. Initially they diagnosed the issue as the dsg mechatronic unit, which they replaced. However shortly after getting the car back, the same symptoms occurred again under normal driving. This time when i brought it to vw they indicated that the abs module and pump need to be replaced, at the cost of $3,600. Vw refuses to cover the cost of repair. Due to the high cost initially i postponed the repair, but since then the same sequence of events has occurred approximately 6 more times and i have read about near-death experiences related to the same issue, so i am getting the work done. I am the original owner of the car. When this problem started it had only 29,000 miles and has always been serviced by the dealer and driven responsibly. Every time this has occurred during mild driving conditions and i was not applying the brakes. It just fails at random. Usually but not always this occurs while turning.

Brake light (flashing), abs and esp light on. Loss of traction control/abs functionality.possibility of a crash in an emergency braking event.as per owners (online forums) it happens to 2009 gti owners. Abs control module/pump issue.happens to 2009 gti owners with various mileages.

The vw dealer has diagnosed the problem as a failure of the abs control module. While driving a car with a failed control module, there a no symptoms, but if you hit the brakes hard enough to trigger the abs system, the abs system doesn't work. The tires lock, and the car slides. Thereafter, several warning lights come on, but power cycling the car turns the lights off, giving the impression that the problem has resolved. I wasn't involved in an accident, but the risk of someone being is a serious accident because of an abs failure is high. You would only find out the part had failed after you needed it.

The contact owns a 2009 volkswagen gti. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds during rain, the brake pedal was depressed which traveled to the floorboard and became stuck. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was released, it would delay in returning to its normal position. In addition, the abs warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the abs brake module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000. Updated 06/29/16*lj

Was driving and hit a patch of snow as i brake and my car slid a little and the anti lock brakes did not engaged and i just kept sliding almost hitting a car and all the lights on my dash turned and there was a loud beeping sound.

Premature failure of electromechanical steering rack.steering rack showing signs of wear and requires replacement within 5 yrs of purchase date and near 50,000 miles.

Vw 2009 gti 80k miles.solid abs, solid power steering light, solid check engine light, solid traction control, and flashing "brake" lights illuminate on the dashboard occasionally upon turning on the vehicle, accompanied by 3 audible beeps. Steering feels a bit stiff. Speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge affected.dealer has indicated an internal fault in the abs control module requiring complete replacement.vw corporate offices unwilling to provide extended warranty on these common failures. Expensive fix and very dangerous to drive.

Instrument panel displays check engine light, steering light, abs light, traction control light, brake light, tire pressure light. Abs no longer works in a hard brake situation, wheels lock and car will skid. Engine also refuses to rev past around 3900 rpm unless manually upshift to a higher gear. Steering assist no longer works.

Defective timing chain tensioner went and destroyed the entire engine that has less than 50,000 miles on it.apparently this is a known issue with vw that i found out about after the fact. Luckily it happened in my driveway.

While driving the vehicle on street roads and highways the car will shift down into a unknown gear and all lights start flashing putting the car into a neutral that doesn't fix until it's restarted.

Epc light issue -which means electronic power control the vehicles computer suddenly cuts power away from the accelerater pedal causing rapid deceleration leaving the driver helpless to control the vehicles speed.i was merging onto a interstate into 70mph traffic and my epc light activated and left me unable to control my speed and safely merge into traffic almost causing a major accident -- very dangerous situation

This has happened several times beginning in march, 2018.epc light comes on (seemingly) randomly. Occasionally, check engine light/service engine now warning will also come on. Sometimes they all shut off after letting the car sit overnight. Epc light comes on sometimes when we turn the car on and sometimes while driving. We have had three incidents where we try to get onto the interstate (70mph) and can't get above approx 40mph. I've almost been rear-ended twice because of this. On another occasion, i couldn't get the turbo to kick in. So, driving at 65mph again on the interstate, i couldn't get up hills and would end up at approx 55pmh by the time i reached level ground. Again, cars swerving to get around me. My husband has had a complete loss of control of acceleration and had to coast over onto the side of the road. I had it happen once at a stop light, taking a long time and a lot of coaxing of the accelerator pedal just to get up to 40mph. These all happened on straight stretches of road and normal weather conditions. Restarting the car may or may not reset the acceleration issue and the epc light.computer scan from vw dealer showed throttle body sensor, so we replaced that with same symptoms after a couple of days. Then, computer says it's accelerator pedal sensor. Replaced also with same results. Replaced spark plugs, air flow sensor, cleaned other sensors, still the same.this is very dangerous. I see in forums that we are not the only ones. It is expensive to keep chasing the problem but lives are at risk. Someone is going to get seriously hurt because their limp cars can't keep up with traffic. Vw seems stumped. The only solution i see is getting rid of this dangerous car but i'd hate to pass that risk onto another person either! plus, dealers pay very little to take this off of our hands for the same reasons. Please help!!!!

Instrument panel displays check engine light, steering light, abs light, traction control light, brake light, tire pressure light. 2009 volkswagen gti (and various other models 2006-2009) windshield interior defroster air dispersion grill directs air to right and left portions of windshield only. No segments of the air dispersion grill located at the base of the windhield direct air up the center of the windshield, this creates a large patch of fog/condensation on the interior of the windshield below the rearview mirror and causes driver field of vision to be reduced.can be "fixed" by running ac and defrost-only w/ fan speed on "3", this is very noisy inside the car and the dry ac air output may critically affect driver eyes/other mucus membranes when driving for extended periods of time.this defect is corrected in the my 2010 gti where the center two vanes of the air dispersion defroster unit have been made to point straight up rather than to either side of the windshield.vw dealer where i bought the car a year ago refuses to try an '10 part on my '09 vehicle to see if the new air diffuser unit will fit.a cooworker has the same model year car i do and has the same complaint.this is especially pronounced in the winter months and in humid weather and creates a large area of blurred glass directly in the middle of the windshield, very hazardous while driving at night or while looking slightly to the right when approaching a right hand turn in the road.tw*
