I was driving along the highway to a client's house only different structure on the highway is a train track, drove to the client's house about 22 miles, on the way back home about 3-5 miles cross the same train track from home no light on at this time and about 3-5 miles driving to home the warning light came on for the first time, i'm afraid to drive the car... When i look up the symbol when i got home on the dash it said the airbag warning and a recall..

Heardsound from the steering wheel airbag while driving normally at 10 mph and now the airbag warning sign is on

Air bag warning light came on.we take it to a dealership who informs us that it will cost upwards $750 to fix.evidently wires under the seat and seat belt buckle become worn from just moving the seat in a different position to satisfy the driver's size. How can a safety device of simple proportions be so costly????what can be wrong with vw if gmc is recalling items and volkswagen sit back and collects money because they have the codes and parts that can fix this sensitive the item.a monopoly on a 5 year old car because we were foolish enough to buy their product.i understand the complication of the air bag system i don't understand why it is not a recall issue when it seems to be a manufacturers poor engineering problem.p.s. I'm retired and can't afford to have it fixed at this time and i'm now driving around without airbags.

Air bag system dash warning light came on. Traced to an electrical connection in the driver side seat belt latch receiver mechanism (air bag fault code 0591) which had to be completely replaced in-order for the air bag system to resume function.this is a known vw issue yet the $490.00 dealer-exclusive repair is not covered under any extended warranty plan, dealer service bulletin, or manufacturer's goodwill plan.

Sensor lights come on intermittently.not consistent and go days between repeat issue.abs/brake/esp:comes on and when car is restart will not duplicate.dealer replaced module and it came on again.seat belt alarm:will alarm even when seat belt is fastened.airbag sensor:came on then, when car was restart it would not duplicate.happened 3 time in a week.headlights replaced:both replaced twice in one year.locks:will lock/unlock while driving when they already had been locked.

The airbag sensor light came on while driving at 65mph.i took to the dealership where i purchased and they sent the car over to the vw dealership.vw dealership contacted me and said that the driver side seatbelt, airbag igniter was defective and needed a driver side airbag unit to the tune of 881.79.i have an extended warranty however nothing related to the airbag or safety is covered. Since this is a safety concern i wonder why vw doesn't stand by their products and warranty.

The contact owns a 2008 volkswagen beetle. While the vehicle was idling at a stop sign, the driver's side air bag spontaneously deployed without warning or impact. The contact stated that smoke emerged from the center console and the vehicle caught fire. The details of how the fire was extinguished were not provided. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified, opened case number: 180380670, and requested to inspect the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

The contact owns a 2008 volkswagen beetle. The contact stated that while having the vehicle examined by an authorized dealer, he was informed that the starter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. A few months later, the contact attempted to start the vehicle and the key would not turn in the ignition. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000.

Faulty ignition coils, car will stall during driving in the middle of the road. When the weather is hot and after one -two hours driving stop and go the engine will stall or misfire. Vw dealer identifies the problems by misfire of coil but replaces only one coil. The problem comes back within 2 month with different coil. Vw should replace all 5 coils in order to avoid damage or accidents.

On my 2008 vw beetle convertible the rear drivers side window regulator/motor made a loud pop when rolling up the window (vehicle was in motion travling at about 20mph in my neighborhood) and is now broken. It will not roll up or down, the car only has 38,000 miles on it & is always garage kept. This is not the only electrical issue i've had with the windows. When pressing the 'all windows' button (whether up or down) the headlights will go dim and then go back to normal when you let off the button. This will happen while the car is in motion at any speed or parked. The headlights dimming from the 'all windows' button is dangerous because of the loss of visibility, and it's confusing to other drivers thinking that you are flashing them. Volkswagen should be held accountable for these defects that are causing safety issues. I believe vw is fully aware of both of these quality issues and even has 'technical service bulletins' on both. A recall needs be done!

Headlight assembly electrical connection has a design flaw that allows the rear pin connector to slightly pull-away and loosen from the headlamp bucket resulting in intermittant headlight failure, especially in colder weather or going over a bump in the road. This has happened to my vehicle numerous times during the past several years, each time thinking the bulbs burned-out but in actuality, it is the wiring harness.the vw dealer says the entire assembly must be replaced, but it the too-short chassis wiring harness that is the issue.this sudden loss of headlight illumination presents a clear & present danger when traveling at night and reasonably must be addresses as soon as possible. According to the vw online forums, this is a known issue that vw has ignored for years.

Love my vw beetle convertible but this is the 4th window that has stopped working and with the prices to fix them well over 300 i have about had enough.after looking on the internet this seems to be a common problem that has been happening for awhile.is there a recall on these window regulators?if not there should be!!!

When driving her 2008 vw beetle at approximately 15 mph during a light rainfall, my daughter hit a bump in the road (not a huge significant bump, just a bump) the entire driver's sideheadlight assembly headlamp/bucket and all came detached from the vehicle completely.they electrical assembly became unplugged and the entire unit came out of the cylindrical compartment that houses the headlight.the entire housing unit, including the bulb and all related parts came out and went crashing onto the pavement where it was struck by a car behind me and smashed into pieces all down the road. This is a major safety issue.it was a danger to both my child and the vehicle behind her and any pedestrians nearby.in fl the law requires you drive with headlights on in the rain, so although it was daytime, she was forced to drive illegally without her headlight causing her to be less visible to other drivers. The car is unusable in the evening or early morning now until we get it fixed.clearly, after reading the many complaints, you tube videos on how to "fix" the loose electrical problem, and many vw bug drivers' horror stories of losing sometimes just the electrical connection (bad enough on its own), but also in some cases, like my daughter's, the entire headlight and it's housing unit came broke away from the vehicle just from hitting a bump in the road. Unacceptable.

The automatic window motor and regulator went bad on rear passenger side when the car was stationary.vw knows about the issue but sells the cars anywaywithout warning, and then charges between $800 and $900 for the required repair kit.in order to repair the window, a mechanic must remove the entire back seat of the car.this takes more than four hours.total cost to repair is more than $1200 per window.vw profits through selling a defective part which can only be repaired by an expensive repair kit - the price of which is determined by vw.all mechanics contacted (12) in the cincinnati area are aware of this vw window situation, and the vw owners forums online are full of the exact same complaint.vw dealers also have to get the part from vw, and charge the same thing. New buyers like me do not budget for this kind of repair, but have no option other than to pay vw their price.

Rear driver's side window stuck on convertible beetle, would not roll up or down.had window regulator replaced--$400two months later, rear driver's side window again stuck.made appointment to have it looked at.day before appointment driver's side window stuck in open position.would not roll up.informed that i need new regulator for that window too, another $400.back window just needed to be adjusted.seems like this is a flaw in design.when will it be recalled and flaw fixed?i live up north.so glad this didn't happen in subzero weather!

The hood doesn't fit. Engine put together tape. Air condition system taped together. And and console lights on. Won't hold charge. Top made of plaster board. Miniature battery was installed. Needed jump if stopped rear breaks needed whole replaced. Needs radiator. Interior handles fell off. Key is not made for this car. My mechanic told me to junk it

This car has had many electrical issues.the first time it was in the dealership due to lights, turning signals not working.the second time about 2 years later i lost all electrical controls.no lights, wipers, ac fan, ac adapter, radio, turn signals.now just 5 months later i am noticing headlight issues.i have taken it back to the vw of ocala, they claim there is no electrical issue that i just need bulb replacement.after driving over an hour to get my car, i get in to findmy windows are no longer working now.

2008 volkswagen beetle with broken air vents. Consumer states that the vehicle came from the manufacturing plant with a defect. She feels that she should be able to get a new vehicle because of this defect.the consumer also heard a squealing noise coming out of another vent when it was closed. The windshield wipers worked intermittently and the speedometer and dashboard lights shut off.

2008 volkswagen beetle.consumer writes in regards to vehicle air filter leakage and engine hydraulic hose issues. The consumer stated the check engine light illuminated and it got to the point, where it started flashing. An associate at an auto parts store, informed the consumer, if the air filter did not work, there was a possibility the hydraulic hose to the line of the engine could break and cause oil to clog the engine.

The contact owns a 2008 volkswagen new beetle convertible. The contact stated that there was an unbearable odor emittinginside the vehicle, making it very uncomfortable to drive. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where the contact was informed that the odor was coming from the air conditioner. The filters for the air conditioner were replaced, but the failure continued to occur. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was 43,000 and the current mileage was 46,000.

The 2008 model for the vw beetle appears to have a design flaw regarding the headlight assemblies. We have had to replace both assemblies because the "headlight buckets" come loose from the power supply inside the fender where the housing units are connected. This issue means that when you hit a bump, the lighting assembly comes loose and headlights fail to operate. At night, this is extremely dangerous! i have contacted vw about the issue and i am supposed to hear back from them. I have had both assemblies replaced with brand new units and the same issue occurs. Most people probably believe their headlight burned out and have it replaced. When the headlight is replaced, the unit is removed and plugged back in and can easily mask the real issue. There is a flaw in the design and a continuous connectivity issue with these parts! vw needs to issue a safely recall and fix this so our headlight assemblies remain plugged into the power source!

This vehicle has been taken into a dealer's service department for six headlamp repair/replacements in 2 years (oct 2009, nov 2009, apr 2012, feb 2011, and dec 2011). The last time, both headlamps went out almost at once, creating a real driving hazard since it was at night.this headlamp is not easy to repair - evidence the damage done in replacement of the right headlamp by one dealership and subsequently repaired by another dealer's service department.vw of america has offered a one-time payment that should cover up to four additional headlamp repairs. To me, this represents an acknowledgement of a fundamental design flaw, but without formal recognition or publication of the problem. Several public blogs exist that highlight this condition. I purchased another, non-vw new vehicle on the same week, and it has never had a headlamp outage.

The passenger-side headlight has repeatedly failed over the 3 years i've owned this convertible. I have spend almost a $1000 to have various related parts replaced and the light fails to work (i.e. It is never just a blown bulb) within a few months. Most recently june 2016.

The contact owns a 2008 volkswagen beetle. While driving at unknown speeds, the driver's side headlight failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to gerald jones volkswagen (4022 washington rd, martinez, ga 30907, (706) 228-6900) where it was diagnosed that the bulb needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified via email and failed to respond. The failure mileage was 49,600. The vin was not available.

The passenger side headlight very frequently isn't working due to the connection between the headlight assembly and the car's wiring. We've tried many different times to improve this connection without much success. Anecdotally i had another beetle with this issue, and see others on the road with it. I think it is a safety issue as visibility is affected as well as my ability to see at night.

Both headlights either burnout or lose connection. It happened 4 times during warranty and an additional 8 times after warranty period. Numerous contacts at the dealer resulted in conversation thatvw would not recognize this problem. It is clearly evident to me as an automotive engineer and a registered professional engineer that the locking assembly is not adequate to lock the assembly into the required position.

Vw 2008 beetle does not accelerate when pressing gas pedal.it will have a delayed affect much the same way the toyota sequoia is having problems with the acceleration. Dangerous if you are crossing a street and the vehicle will not move.

Purchased 2008 vw beetle from mckinney dodge, got it home and happen the next day noticed the drivers side door brake was broken off and had a jagged edge, took back to dodge, they just removed old part did not bother to fix brake, i carried it back several days later and was told they would have to weld it, not thinking that was right i carried it to vw dealer, was told not to let them weld it, and only way to fix it is to install a new door, shouldn't this be under some warrany and the car has a 8900 mile warranty still left on it

The vw new beetle was recalled from years 2003 to 2008 for transmission hard shifting from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 gears. Vw recalled vehicles because of a bad transmission valve body. My car was sold new in august of 2007 to its first owner and has the known transmission problem as recalled by vw. The transmission in question is an o9g transmission according to the dealer. I took the car to the dealer when the problem started and they told me that they saw no codes and this were sealed transmissions, meaning no servicing needed. I never received any letter from vw and when i called to report the problem they tell me my vin number is not recalled. It is obvious that the same problem exist on this vehicles and i am asking the nhtsa to reopen this case with vw and extend the warranties for owner still experiencing the a previous recall for the exact problem. My car production date is 6/7/2007 and sold new on 8/12/2008. The transmission should be covered.

I own a 2008 volkswagen beetle.the rear window adhesive on the convertible top became separated this failure caused the glass to separate and the window to separate from the top and almost flew out in traffic and couldcaused a accident at this time the car is parked due to the safety concern. I am very concerned that the glass may fly out while driving. I have had conversation through email with volkswagen and they are not concerned, the only response is it is out of warranty,. I have researched the issue on the internet and have found that there are many complaints about the same issue. Again if i would have not pulled over when i did the window would have flown out and caused a accident.

The contact owns a 2008 volkswagen new beetle. While the contact was driving 70 mph for approximately one hour, the tire pressure sensor light flashed on the instrument panel. The failure occurred while the vehicle was traveling at high speeds. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they informed that one of the tire sensors failed. The dealer was unable to determine which tire sensor failed because the warning light was no longer illuminating on the instrument panel. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but would not offer to replace the tire pressure monitoring system. The contact expressed concern about the safety of driving the vehicle without an operable tire pressure monitoring system. The failure mileage was 25,000.

I have a 2008 vw beetle that has less than 40,000 miles on it. It will not pass smog; something about codes needing to be reset. I have taken the car to a highly rated repair shop and he spent hours talking to vw and bar.i picked up the car and called a vw dealership and spoke to a service rep. He told me just to driven the car and it will reset itself. Not true.

Front door latch fail. Door will not lock or acknowledge door is shut. May open while driving.

The car was sitting stationary in the on position. Noticed a burning smell. Looked under front of car and saw flames. Turned car off and went to safety. In minutes the front of the car was engulfed. The whole car burned and is a total loss.

The passenger side window fell down and the dealer put a new regulator in it costing us $500.00, then the rear window on the passenger side fell down and that cost us $185.00 at the dealer, now the driver's window has fallen down and we are wondering if there is a recall on this problem.the 1st & 3rd time was stationary, the 2nd time we were in motion.

This car has 2000 miles on it and vw only offered $ 4700.00 to purchase the car back , they say they want to only pay the trade in value and this is not fair , i did not cause this recall.

Vw 2008 beetle does not accelerate when pressing gas pedal.it will have a delayed affect much the same way the toyota sequoia is having problems with the acceleration. Dangerous if you are crossing a street and the vehicle will not move.

Instrument panel/dash lights 'flicker' when windshield wiper system is turned on. Flicker begins when wiper blade starts to move upwards across the windshield and stops when wiper blade reaches the end of its' downward stroke. Then it begins all over again when the next upward cycle starts. This is an operation hazard as it is very distracting for the driver especially at night and especially when operating the vehicle in the inclement weather that calls for the wipers to be activated in the first place!there has been a vw technical bulletin issued (tb-90-08-06) but the dealer will not perform the repair under any sort of warranty or goodwill program and it is not a covered issue under my extended warranty plan.

Window regulators come apart and make a grinding noise.windows fall into the door and will not go back up.parts take at least a week to come in.quite a problem in a convertible, the windows go up and down every time you open the doors.this has happened twice in the last 9 months.volkswagen has no recall or defect reported.volkswagen makes the part and gives it a 12 month or 12,000 mile manufacturers warranty but offers no guarantee the window regulators will not fail again and does not offer to cover the cost of repair when they do, outside 12 mos/12k miles.at $250 a door on a 3 year old car, i'm not looking forward to replacing these when they fail again.

Love my vw beetle convertible but this is the 4th window that has stopped working and with the prices to fix them well over 300 i have about had enough.after looking on the internet this seems to be a common problem that has been happening for awhile.is there a recall on these window regulators?if not there should be!!!
