Air bag warning light came on. Was told by dealer main airbag control module was bad and more could be bad once that was repaired and rest of system could be checked.
Air bag light illuminated for passenger seat (indicating that air bag not working and problem).dealer states that the air bag module and seat belt buckle need to be replaced.the air bag module and seat belt buckle should not have to be replaced on a one owner vehicle with less than 50,000 miles.
Air bag warning light diagnosed at service by dealer (campbell/nelson vw) indicated that a sensor or switch located in the driver-side seatbelt latch was defective and even when the seatbelt was latched, the airbag would not deploy. This turned out to be a $400 repair and i believe it should be considered for a recall.
The air bag module failed. Dealer said since it had failed they couldn't tell if there were any more problems with the air bag system. Module needs replaced first at a cost of $1000 then they can test the rest of the system to see if there are any other problems. If there are additional problems it will cost extra to repair.
I have a 2007 vw new beetle.i am experiencing a malfunctioning airbag issue.from my understanding the 2007 new beetle was not initially included in the 2007 recall but i am asking for a reconsideration in this matter.this has been an ongoing issue since 12/2015.no matter what is done to rectify the situation, the warning light continues to emit.dealership has been unwilling to clarify if my vehicle is equipped with the faulty airbags.due to possible severity of this situation, no vehicle should be erroneously omitted with the possibility of danger existing.i appreciate your assistance in this matter.
Driver's seat belt buckle not reading that seat belt is buckled causing yellow seat belt /air bag light to remain on and making air bags inoperable i'm guessing.dearler recommends new driver's side seat belt assembly.
On airbags driver light for airbag is on won't go off.on transmission it jerks the when it's in 6 it runs fine.. I have not been in any accidents with this car.thank you
I own a 2013 passat and my airbag light came on after my warranty expired a little over a year ago; only to be told by volkswagen it would be my responsibility until i reached out to your office and my matter was investigated only to find that l as million other customers were also affected and a recall was initiated and my vehicle was included as a result. I received another email (enclosed) that informed me of another recall, but my 2007 new beetle was not included although the airbag light is on as well . After speaking with vw; they were unable to confirm if my 2007 should be included because most of the complaints has been on either the 2007 jetta or the passat according to the vw rep.. There has been a complete cover-up by vw, and i believe all models has been affected and the takata airbag is in my 2007 as well and should be included as they are unable to definitively say that my car does not have that particular brand. I believe it does and should be a part of the current recall as well. The letter clearly says some 2007 models. I am very grateful that your office took such swift action with my first complaint which confirmed that my issue was not an isolated incident rather worldwide and a huge cover up on the part of ww. No one should ride around unsafe and i ask that you take my complaint into consideration by adding the new beetle to the list as well. Enclosed is the letter sent from vw. Thank you :)
"takata recall" (?) srs warning light stays on after starting vehicle. 65000 miles on vehicle. Code (00591) indicates fault in driver's side seat/safety belt.
For years, volkswagen has had a design flaw in their seat belt wiring harness. My "check engine" light came on as is the "air bag" lightso i took it to a vw mechanic. He said it was a common problem with vw and audi. He cleared the fault using a diagnostics tool. Soon the lights came back on. And they stay on...! will my air bag work with this problem? what happens if i get an engine problem such as oil pump or timing belt? my vehicle could shut down without my knowledge. That could cause an accident. And again, will my air bag work? we have looked online...this seat belt wiring design flaw has been going on for years. Yet, volkswagen has not fixed this issue. The mechanic we used says the seat belt wiring harness is too short...therefore, when the seat is moved forward it breaks wiring in the harness. The dealer wants $600 to fix this. I do not have that kind of money! i am on ssdi.
Air bag warning light stays on after start. Constantly on even when driver and passenger seat belts are engaged.extremely dangerous! recall now. I see the issue has been reported numerous times over a decade!
The drivers side front seat belt air bag sensor went bad.thevw dealership said the parts have been discontinued.this is a major safety hazard!there have been many complaints about this same issue i have seen, i can't believe that vw hasn't issued a recall on this by now!the air bags will not work in the event of an accident, this could lead to death!again there needs to be action taken and a recall issued before anyone gets seriously injured or killed!my seatbelt air bag light came on while i was driving causing me to pull over thinking that maybe the belt wasn't fastened all the way.the light wouldn't go out so i drove it to a garage where it sat until today still not fixed due to part being discontinued!again safety hazard as the air bags are non functional!
The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen beetle. The contact stated that the air bag indicator continuously illuminated on the instrument panel. The dealer repaired the vehicle, but the specific repairs were unknown. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 38,479. Updated 10/6/2015
Takata recall,air bag light on
The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen new beetle convertible. The contact stated that the front passenger and driver side windows would involuntarily open and close independently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told there was an electrical failure causing the windows to malfunction. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the contact stated that the front driver lock had become inoperable.the battery was replaced twice but to no avail. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.
Many owners of vws including the beetle and other models have reported cold solder joint on the door lock sensors. These cold solder joints cause intermittent problems where the doors will lock and unlock, and the windows will roll down and back up. The windows function is related to the convertible top, so that the window will roll down a bit when the door is unlocked so that it will come out from the lip of the convertible top. This happens when the vehicle is stationary and when the vehicle is moving.
Ongoing issue with starting for approx last year and a half. Have had in to local dealer where purchased and they find nothing other than to tell me to lock my car when in use because the car's electronics are being confused.while trying to start the icons will flash and the windows will go up and down. Sometimes the car eventually starts on a 2nd or 3rd try but other times the car goes dead and a jump is necessary.i have less than 35,000 miles on it at this point in time. Are others having issues or is this dealership ineffective in diagnosing problem?
The ignition key/tumbler and steering column will become locked if the steering wheel is not perfectly straight.car must be aligned perfectly before parking to not have an issue.car has been towed to the dealer for repairs but nothing has been fixed.key and tumbler will actually spin in the column when turned while column is locked up.dealer said to pull on key/tumbler while turning and it will "catch" its position again.wife has been trapped in various locations because of steering column lock-up.this is an unsafe condition for anyone to be left stranded in any location.
The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen beetle. While parked, the contact stated that the traction control warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated that the vehicle had an electrical problem and an unknown part would need to be replaced. The contact also stated that the headlight bulbs had to be replaced approximately eight times in three years. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 200.
After departing my home, and driving approximately 23 miles, i had a brief smell of something burning, however, all the windows were open and i was on a highway of 12 lanes of traffic, and felt it could be from any where, not necessarily my vehicle.moments later, i caught a flash in my right eye, that drew my attention to the passenger side floor board, but when i looked i thought perhaps it was a sun reflection.directing my attention back to the highway, seconds later, i caught a second flash and this time when looking to the passenger side floor board, there was flames inside the car near the glove compartment towards the floor and door, and black smoke.i immediately got off the highway safely, turned off the car, evacuated with my belongings, as the car became totally engulfed in flames.i immediately called 911 and assistance arrived to include the state police and fire department, and turnpike staff.the car was picked up on camera by the turnpike dispatcher once i called in.note:this vehicle had just been serviced 35 days prior from the vw dealer where purchased 4 years ago! i have never received a recall notice at all, and have a car fax that was given to me when purchased that shows no previous recall either.something went seriously wrong on 25 jul 2015.this could have resulted in my more tragic damage, to include my life, other vehicles, and possibly other lives.

2nd beetle. Same issue. (first one leaked fluid). This one does not leak but has the same horrible shifting issue! i love my car but hear from all the mechanics that this is the norm with these vehicles. So why is it not recalled????? is it transmission or something else? 2007 automatic transmission. It has 91,000 miles on it. When the car transmission is cold it shifts ok most of the time. But when the transmission has warmed up its a given to jerk and hesitate. Specially when it shift from 1st to 2nd gear i feel a hitting noise. Also facing the same problem when it down shifts but not always. Embarrassing really! sometimes it shifts hard in higher gear on highway or seems to miss and rpm goes up and it hesitates to shift. It finally does while i am holding my breath and pray it does not stall while i am turning or in the intersection or on the highway. It really is a safety issue! i love my little car though... Gurrrrrrrrr.. So mad.what could be the issue? how could i fix this problem without having to put on a lift to always check transmission fluid. I want to keep the car, its a shame because its in great condition. Triple white convertible and no wear. Am i looking at 3k for a new trans?so i am to give up and sell it to some other poor soul (sucker). That's awful. There is a graveyard full of your cars in the junk yards for parts.. Sickening and sad!
I was told by a mechanic that there is oil leaking onto timing cover at the rear of cylinder head. Very costly and there is no way to catch it before it happens, it just happens.
The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen beetle convertible. The contact stated that when driving the vehicle, unknown fumes would enter the vehicle and cause her to become ill. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times and they are unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and they stated that they would be further inspecting the vehicle to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 22,412.
I have a 2007 vw beetle that i have replaced the headlights on about six times. The taillights have been replaced three times. Now my headlights won't stay on. I believe this is a design flaw, because if you push on the lights, they will comrade on. However if i hit just a small bump in the road, they will go out. This is a hazard, especially driving in the dark.
The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen beetle. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the headlight assembly disconnected from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection where the headlight assembly was replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
Went and replaced rt head lamp, still won't work, car has 26000 miles on it.
Hard heavy odor permeating my inside of my vw convertible 2007 car. Went to dealer i purchased it from and for a few days they purified it for days. I picked it up and it was still there. Brought in to other dealer 3 times and they claim there is nothing. It was clearly a staged answer. But i have to admit , vw dealers took time to see what it could be. Stating they smell "something" not sure what it is? it very well could be a health risk .how do i know i wont get canceror poisoning from this ? i can assure you no one cars from vw of america.basically i own a car i am afraid to drive and only drive it when i am hard up to get somewhere. It smells like crayons and chemicals. When i drove it, i would get headaches and so would my daughter. I would get tears in my eyes, and i quit driving it.it is now 5 years old and has 32000 miles on it. Filed 3 claims with vw of america and they said "there is no smell".i have almost paid off the car , (which i cannot drive). I am so frustrated. Lemon law does not cover odor issues as the car runs perfectly.it is toxic to me, and i won't drive my family in it. But its a danger. I emailed vw of america and they totally blew me off. I am a 30 year vw owner. I know my cars.there is a defect here. And i am screwed out of a new car. There goes all my money. Many posts point to the undercarriage lining , as they were manufactured in mexico. Possibly used low grade material causing the smell.the only way to drive this ,is windows down. The smell is so strong, that with the top down- the cab smells i am telling you i have been ripped off.this is a manufacture defect!!!! no one is helping me with a full refund or a final remedy!--fyi vw of america reps told meto call the ceo of volkswagen?????????????????????????(really?)
Gas leakage from under hood identical to recall #20i4 but was told by vw dealership car was checked 3 years earlier and there was no problem in the location of parts and that this leakage happened at another area of the fuel line and vw of america concurred with dealership.luckily there was no fire because it was leaking bad and i took it to the dealership after smelling gas odor inside car.it seems vw won't own up to anything unless there is a casualty.after having bought three beetles i have no confidence in vw of america and this dealership anymore.also the headliner has to be replaced and the windshield wipers never worked properly after dealership checked it when it was still under warranty.very low mileage to be incurring design problems.

On airbags driver light for airbag is on won't go off.on transmission it jerks the when it's in 6 it runs fine.. I have not been in any accidents with this car.thank you
While driving 65 mph on the interstate, the transmission suddenly switched from drive to neutral and would not go back into drive. The driver was forced to exit the interstate and coast to a stop on the shoulder at the end of the exit. The transmission could be put into sport mode and would move forward somewhat if the gas pedal was floored, but drive would not engage. When in drive, the car would only rev as if it were in neutral. The car was towed to a mechanic who inspected it and said the front drive clutch assembly fell apart. The entire transmission has to be replaced because the tiptronic transmission is a sealed system, making rebuilding it or replacing specific parts very difficult.
After warming up transmission is slipping, bucking, and clunking.happens after driving for a while (about 10 miles).
Car sporadically looses power while attempting to suddenly accelerate after momentarily lifting foot off gas peddle.most instances occur while changing lanes on the highway or attempting to make a normal left hand turn.example:going 60 mph, lift foot off peddle to slow down due to car in front of me, see opening in the lane to my right, turn wheel slightly to change lanes, floor it only to find i have no power with other car barreling down on me.this has happened over a dozen times but i am unable to duplicate it at will.
Transmission is bad. Hard shifts between 1st and 2nd gear. Also between 2nd and 3rd gear. Drives fine until the car warms up. After about 20 or 30 minutes it starts the hard shift and jerking. It has gotten stuck in 2nd gear and will not shift up or down, nothing, just stuck.
Car hesitated two different times when pulling into traffic.the transmission 'grabbed' within 3 or 4 seconds.each time i came close to having an accident, but didn't thanks to the alertness of other drivers.
After driving the vehicle for about 10 minutes my daughter pull on to a main road and transmission slipped changing in to second and other gears. Vehicle would not get up to speed causing other cars to have to slow way down behind her. The vehicle only has 88,000 miles.
Vw has a history of automatic transmission issues with several of their cars.our car started experiencing issues with shifting up and down.we have experienced this issue for about 30k miles ago.it has progressively gotten worse.as we starting investigating if there were others experiencing they same issue, we have learned that vw knows of this problem and has offer to many to replace the valve body of the transmission, which has been determined to be the issue.we contacted vw today to see if they would do the same for our vw and they said no.we are looking for some help with this issue.
When vehicle is shifting from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd there is a pause between gears and then it bangs when it finally catches.it seems this is an ongoing problem with vw.i'm picking my car up tomorrow after the replacement of the automatic transmission valve body.i don't understand how this problem has not been recalled with so many complaints including a class action law suit the vw agreed to extend the warranty to replace the valve body.however, i was told by my dealer that my vin was not included in the extended warranty and it would cost $1800 to replace.there is obviously a problem with this component and vw needs to be held accountable for these repairs.
2007 beetle convertible shifts hard (violently) from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gear in standard mode and sport mode. This has been an ongoing problem while the vehicle is warm. Contacted local dealer and was told since there weren't any codes present, that i did not have a problem. Last week the car stalled while trying to accelerate onto the highway. I managed to steer off the highway onto the shoulder to avoid a collision. Vw of america is aware of this problem but will not resolve their manufacturing issues. This issue poses a serious threat to occupant safety.
The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen beetle. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 35 mph, the vehicle failed to shift gears then stalled. The contact mentioned that the engine light illuminated and the failure was experienced multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen beetle convertible. The contact stated once the the driver side seat belt was buckled thethe air bag light would remain illuminated. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who advised her that the seat belt sensor was not reading correctly therefore, the air bag light would not detect it. The vehicle was not repaired. The "check engine light" stays on. We used a decoder and it gave a fault to the seat belt. We tried to clear the code but could not get rid of the code. I did online research and found this is a common problem with vw beetles. The 'check engine light" is a vital part of possible problems. Since we cannot clear the code that that light on in our dash, we have no way of knowing if another issue occurs. What if get a bad oil pump or timing belt problem? we have no way of knowing because the seat belt issue is tied into the "check engine light". Very dangerous! we are on ssi and cannot afford to take our car to a dealer. They want $600 to fix the seat belt issue. We do not have that kind of money! this is obviously a big issue with vw beetles as we have seen online. Many, many complaints!!! they should be held accountable for the defective seat belt issue! i have seen that their seat belt wiring harnesses are about two inches too short...thus causing the wires to break and cause the "check engine light" condition that we have. Please have vw do the right thing. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
First the button to roll up the passenger window broke, then the button to lock the passenger door broke, then the seat fell apart for not reason and would not clip down, then the plastic panels inside the door crack and are falling off.

Traveling on the dc capital beltway, traffic slowed due to a car pulled over. I engaged the brakes and had a hard pedal with no braking action at all. I popped the transmission into neutral and was unable to get any braking action. I swerved to miss the car in front of me and clipped the rear of the car to my right. I firmly had my foot on the brake the entire time and never felt any sensation of any braking force. I went on some new beetle forums after the accident and was able to find several strings describing exactly what happen. It appears that when a split occurs in the vacuum hose to the power brake booster, if the brake is engaged in normal service, there is no issue however if you jab the brakes such as in a panic stop one gets a hard pedal and no stopping power. This is a very dangerous condition due to the brakes failing at the most exact time when they are needed with no prewarning.
Brakes have failed three separate times on my vw new beetle. The brake booster has been replaced three times and the master cylinder once! the car is exactly 23 months old and has a total of 8,300 miles. First failure at 2201miles 2nd failure at 3800miles and 3rd failure at 8,200 miles. Its a death machine!!

The contact owns a 2007 volkswagen beetle. While the contactwas driving approximately 30 mph the driver side window made a loud squeaky noise when in activation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on five separate occasions where the mechanic lubed the window glass track inside of the door panel. In addition, the driver side window mechanism and exterior side view mirrors control mechanism malfunctioned and were replaced. The exterior paint on the driver side door exhibited severe chipping. Also, the contact stated water would leak inside the driver side window door panel causing the window glass to fog. The failure mileage was approximately 5. Updated10/27/10. *lj

Massive problem with the 09g automatic transmission. Both the valve body and the actual transmission suffers from poor design which over time leads to hard shifts through gears. Especially prominent when upshifting from 1 - 2 & 3. Downshifting from 4 to 3 - 1 is also similarly effected. It happens under all conditions. Hot, cold, dry, wet, all the same "jerking"/shudder motion. Volkswagen should extend the warranty for the 09g transmissions for the mk4 platform (beetle 2006 - 2010) and honor their work.
Transmission problems jerking and also stalls on highways almost getting killed.
There has been an issue with the trunk - not opening - the key doesn't work or the button on the door ?i'm taking it to get checked but this has happened several times
I have a 2007 volkswagen beetle convertible.when slowing down, not to a complete stop, and i try to accelerate and go again, the car totally stalls (stops).this happens even when making turns-you can press on the accelerator and nothing happens and then in a couple of minutes it races forward.i called the local service department to be told it was a "bypass wire" problem, that nothing could be done, they all did that and volkswagen was aware of the situation.there are so many times this has happened that i was almost in an accident because of the car stalling.it happens everytime, i slow down, but do not completely stop.to me there should be some kind of recall, that is extremely dangerous.i am surprised there have not been numerous accidents of deaths because of this.even when you are sitting there pumping the gas peddle, it just sits there, and then flies off in a hurry.
The contact stated that while driving 5 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently. The contact applied the brakes and the vehicle was brought to a stop. Two months later while parking in a residential garage, the failure recurred and the contact crashed into and rolled over a cement chock followed by a storage unit that fractured the windshield. The contact was not injured. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but no cause for the failure was determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 37,387.

*lj
Both rear windows regulators went out and neither back windows will roll up or done.
First the button to roll up the passenger window broke, then the button to lock the passenger door broke, then the seat fell apart for not reason and would not clip down, then the plastic panels inside the door crack and are falling off.
