While driving 45 mph the vehicle was involved in a left frontal collision yet the air bags did not deploy.the vehicle was totaled.*nlm*nlm
Current problem:manual transmission stick shift mechanism completely broke during shifting at highway speeds (during rush hour).it went to neutral, but i was able to find 3rd gear and get the car off of the road.
The air bag sensor light came on the first time on oct.6,'99, the airbag was replaced along with the ring, then on oct. 11th, it came on again, again it was replaced. On oct.18th it came on again and again it was replaced. On december 31, 1999 the light once again came on and on monday, january 3rd 2000, i will take it to the sevice center again. This seems to be an ongoing problem and i certainly don't want to be billed for this once the warranty runs out. Please help me!!! do i have a lemon or what????
Shortly after i bought the vehicle, engine"check light came on and stayed on.also,cd player was not operating correctly and temperature display (by rear view mirror) did not work.took in to dealer's svc dept. Many times, but problems persited .dealer svc. Dept. Claimed everything working fine.recently, the window on the driver side failed and it would not go up. Took car in to dealer svc. Dept. And got repaired.shortly after that, car died.it was not the battery, so car was towed to dealer service dept. On 8-14-02.dealer examined car and said it was the tri-lock system and didn't know how to fix it.tri-lock system removed by dealer but car still not working.problem: power windows did not work, push window button and trunk would pop open, air bag light stayed on, etc. Etc. Etc.the car has been at dealeship for over a week and dealer keeps telling me it's fixed, but when i go pick it up (3 times), the car is still doing the same thing, and the air bag light is still on all the time.very frustrated and disappointed.
Airbag light came on (has gone off and on for over a year); local mechanic unable to determine problem.11.09.2005 took it to vw in brunswick, maine.mechanic thinks there is a resistance issue and recommended replacement.he thinks it is a malfunction.the cost is over $500!i spoke to two co-workers with different model vw's and had the same issue.problem not resolved.why should i pay for something that a mechanic thinks is wrong and others have to continuously pay for? if it is a defect then vw should be paying for it! my airbags have never deployed before.my car will not pass inspection with this light on.
Sending my daughter to college in this cute little red bug. Every vw dealership and their brother, is aware of a driver side airbag defect in these cute little things.my dealer will repair the faulty wiring and belt buckle, as they did for the school teacher i bought this cute little thing from. What school teachers won't do is replace the faulty airbag in the side for six years because they think, "oh i am safe enough with a front airbag only!" and nobody wants to spend $700 for a little side airbag. But i think vw should recall the side airbag for putting in so many faulty side airbags as a whole bunch of cute school teachers and cute little freshman students like my little precious girl drive around these bugs with a smile on there face.and the cute light with a little man holding a beach ball in his lap!
Car simply drove over an impact wrench that fell out of a toolbox from a vehicle prior on the road. It hit the underside of the car. Small dent in a component brace in undercarriage.no side impact or damage occurred at all. Manufacturer refuses to replace.
The contact owned a 1999 volkswagen beetle. While driving 65 mph, the air bags deployed when the contact crashed into the bars on the freeway. The contact sustained a fractured nose and a cut to the face that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 123,000.
1)driver's side window had difficulty going up since vehicle purchase, have to push with hand to assist. 2) just a few months after purchase sensor behind brake pedal failed, vehicle would shift from park, replaced. 3) air bag came on and then engine light soon after, catalytic converter replaced. Both warning lights off and replaced. 4) headlights are constantly blowing out, evidence of a short when replaced. Burn marks, and exposed wiring because plastic on connectors got brittle and cracked off. 5) air bag light on again, two weeks later engine light on. Told two sensors on mass air flowand some others are malfunctioning and now been replaced. Told there is a broken clock spring in steering column along with bad wiring harness, both affecting air bags. Also, told airbag is now bad and needs to be replaced because other defective components have shortedigniter in air bag out. I am a college student and cannot continue to fund repairs to this vehicle. Cannot sell either because of these problems, and now reputation of beetle for problems. Vehicle hasnever been in an accident, evenso much as bumped. Meticulously maintained. Dims 11 ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis----------------770755.*nlm
While driving the car i noticed the speedometer & odometer weren't working (mileage froze at 26,139).the gas gauge was not working either.then the check engine light came on and the airbag light.brought into dealership and was told there were 19 failures when it was tested on their computer.dealership claims the transmission needs parts replaced. (will be covered under powertrain warranty possibly). Still waiting on parts.they said after they replace parts of transmission they will let me know what else needs to be done and how much it will cost me.the standard warranty ended march 2001.the vehicle has low mileage (26,139).the battery had to be replaced last year.many times the car wouldn't start and had to be jumped.the check engine light came on the first year i had the car and the dealership claimed it was a sensor problem.
Car hit highway on ramp guard rail on right front side. Airbags did not deploy. Extensive damage to right front side bumper and to hood.
The contact owned a 1999 volkswagen beetle. While driving approximately 60 mph and switching lanes on the highway, the contact's vehicle crashed into the retention wall. The contact sustained a broken nose and a large cut from the lower lip all the way down to her chin. The contact was transported to the local hospital by ambulance for medical attention. A police report was filed. The doctor stated that a piece of metal from the air bag cracked some of her frontal teeth. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 123,000....updated 06-12-15
1999 vw beetle. Airbag light came on randomly and won't turn off. Vw repair shop told me it would be $99 to diagnose the problem and a few hundred dollars to replace/fix the issue. The car has not been involved in an accident. Nothing has been done to fix the issue. It is a safety issue because i'm essentially driving around with no airbags. I refuse to pay that much money for something that multiple people have reported the issue about. Should be a recall.
The contact owns a 1999 volkswagen beetle.while driving 55 mph the contact depressed the brake pedal and the air bag light illuminated.the light remained illuminated , andvehicle wascurrently at a repair shop. The current mileageis 89,000 , and failure mileage was 87,000.
Airbag controller knocked off vehicle in single vehicle accident; airbags failed to deploy.
Is there any way to find out if the previous owner of this vehicle had problems with the airbags. We bought this car for our 18 year old twin daughters with saftey in mind. We really need your help on this.please contact us.thank you.
Intermittently the air bags sensor light would come on/off. Dealer notified and informedconsumer that there was nothing to worry about, the air bag will not deploy. Seeking nhtsa help or provide additional information on this matter.
While driving 5 mph and without hazard flashingwarning lightsblinked on and off on their own. Also, driver and passenger side windowsrolled up and down, andsrs light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. Consumer tookvehicle to the dealer for inspection on numerous occasions.but, mechanicwas unable to duplicate or resolve the problems.
- the contact stated that when she crankedthe 1999 volkswagen beetle the airbag light remainedilluminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealership to be inspected, and they informed the contact that a sensor under the steering wheel needed to be replaced. The dealership replaced the sensor. Approximately 13 months later the airbag light started to illuminate again. The airbag light remainedilluminated. The vehicle currently had 104000 miles. Updated 04/09
Consumer complaint is that the side air bag on his vehicle failed to deploy when another vehicle hit the drivers side at approximately 15 mph.consumer was traveling forward at approximately 50 to 60 mph. A pick-up truck hit consumer's car broadside on driver's side, an engineer at vw claims stated that the forward motion of vehicle lessened the side impact enough that the air bag did not activate.
On dec. 9th, 2000, our beetle was hit in the drivers side andside airbags did not deploy. "experts" at volkswagen claimed that our forward motion at the time of impact lessened the side impact. I can understand this to some degree but by their reasoning, if we were going twice as fast, would the damage have been halved? oy. The side was so caved-in that i had to be cut out of the car with the jaws of life. People who have seen the car , including the repair shop foreman, can not believe that the airbag did not deploy. On contacting vw, i was told that being that i was moving at the time of impact, it lessened the side impact. I can understand this to some exent, but does this mean that if we were doing 100mph instead of 50mph would the damage would have been halved?.
When consumer turns the vehicle on, there is a loud beeping noise and a flashing red light.*jg
Consumer has been having alot ofproblems withelectrical features.consumer has replaced 2 batteries/ 1 cd changer/ 4 headlight bulbs, and air conditioneroutlet didn't work. Dealer stated vehicle had too many miles.problems existed since day 1.
The contact owns a 1999 volkswagen beetle.while driving less than 30 mph, the driver could smell a burning odor and noticed white smoke coming from the air conditioning vents.she then noticed black smoke coming from the vents.the driver exited the vehicle and, within minutes, flames engulfed the vehicle.the fire department was called and stated that the fire originated underneath the dashboard; however, this could not be determined definitively.a police report was filed.the failure and current mileages were 136,000.
The contact owns a 1999 volkswagen beetle. While driving atapproximately 55 mph, a fire erupted under the dashboard. Thecontact moved the vehicle off the highway. The fire and police department arrived on the scene to assist. There were no injuries. The vehicle was destroyed. The vehicle was towed to an independent lot and the vehicle has not been examined for the cause of failure. A police report was available. The failure and current mileages were unknown.
The contact owns a 1999 volkswagen beetle. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, white smoke was coming from the center console. The contact noticed the console was melting. The contact extinguished the smoke. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failure was undetermined. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,500.
On 01/28/2003 while cruising at approximately 45mph my diesel engine simply shut down without any advance warning whatsoever.i was stranded on the side of a very busy road with my 3 year old granddaughter.i then had it towed to jim ellis vw on peachtree industrial blvd, atlanta, ga30341 (phone:770-458-6811).they were able to repeat the problem and diagnosed a failed power supply relay which was subsequently replaced.thus far the problem has not repeated itself.this was a potentially dangerous situation!!!!
The contact owns a 1999 volkswagen beetle. The contact stated that while at a traffic light she smelled something burning then noticed smoke emitting from the dashboard. The vehicle was able to be driven to the contact home where the vehicle completely engolf into flames. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 166,500.
Had to have fuse panel on battery replaced for 2nd time in 2-3 yrs and also a fuse box under dash. Cost was very expensive. Car would not start all of a sudden after shopping at a store. Had to push start the car to a independent mechanic. Still don't know why it went bad/appeared melted. In first episode the alternator had to be replaced also as there were battery drain problems. This an indirectsafety issue as my daughter drives car and she could havebe stranded at any place when this happened.
The contact owns a 1999 volkswagen beetle. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, he turned off the air conditioner and noticed smoke coming from the instrument panel. The contact was able to park and exit the vehicle, when the vehicle burst into flames. The fire was able to be extinguished and the vehicle was towed from the scene. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileage was 107,000.
The speedometer stopped working.shortly after this the drive by wire throttle also stopped working returning the vehicle to an idle (approx. 1100 rpm).this can occur at any time.you have to restart the vehicle to get the throttle to work again.this is very dangerous when it happens in heavy traffic.the manufacturer (vw) can offer no solution to the problem.i have discovered this issue, at some point in time, could affect all of the1999 -2009 new beetles along with the audi tt. Again vw and the speedometer cluster manufacturer magneti morelli can offer no fix for the problem.
The contact owned a 1999 volkswagen beetle. The contact stated that there was an abnormal noise while driving in the middle lane of the road. The contact stated that smoke emitted near the left part of the dashboard close to the steering wheel. In addition, due to the extensive nature of the smoke, the contact had to engage the hazard lights and exited the vehicle while in the lane. The fire department extinguished the flames. A police officer was present to direct traffic and a report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a yard. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14e007000 (engine and engine cooling). The vin was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 07v063000 (exterior lighting) and 06v183000 (exterior lighting).the manufacturer was notified of the failure months ago and was to provide further testing to determine the failure. The contact kept calling, but received no response from the manufacturer. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
The consumer stated that 18 months after the purchase of the vehicle, the vehicle needed to be jump started.the consumer had taken the vehicle to the dealer and was told that it was a computer malfunction.the consumer had taken the vehicle in for an inoperative speedometer but it ended up being the instrument cluster.the low beam lights wouldn't work because of an error with the electronics.*scc
Problems with vehicle's instrument panel and radio.*mr the instrument panel had to be replaced twice. The radio operated on it's own and the windows rolled down on their own. The consumer was unable to use the power controls to. He wrote a letter to the vw dealership and has not received any response. The car was taken and auctioned off. The consumer was trying to find a way to make sure volkswagen be held accountable.the consumer also stated the odometer rolled up approximately 9000 miles, the dealer ran a computer check but found nothing wrong with the vehicle.
At 1 1/2 months of ownership the check engine light came on "with no fault found" took 1 1/2 years and 6 service visits to fix. The car often goes forward while in reveres and has shifting problems, have had the transmission "adjusted" 3 times still has problems. Oil light doesnt go on when oil is low. Battery light doesnt go on when the batter is dying. Wiring to headlight keeps "loosening" causing the headlights to fail. Had rear and front brakes replaced due to low ground clearance and snow getting lodged in them and freezing.
No summary listed for above vehicle.
Battery was cracked causing acid to leak onto power steering reservoir.
Three months prrior to the engine fire, a battery blew up in this car after turning the ignition key.prior to that the headlights have been replaced three times and the a/c condenser replaced.we believe this car has some serious electrical problems.vw decided it was an "insurance" issue, because of the mileage of the car.in short, they are saying that it is ok for the engine to burn up on a 1999 car with 44,000 miles.
I purchased this vehicle because i was looking for a reliable and economical car.i have been very disappointed.this car burns oil at an unbelievable rate.i cannot rely on it and do not want to drive it out of town.i am now keeping jumper cables in the hatch because of constant battery problems.the radio is not working.i have already replaced a regulator (window) on the driver's side and it has broken again.less than a year after it was replaced.several dealerships told me that they couldn't get me in to fix the problem for 2 weeks - my window was stuck down inside of the door and would not roll up.the waiting time for an appt at a dealer should be an indication that the are not producing quality vehicles.the warranty period is too short.the problems seem to all happen after the warranty is up.is that how long they expected to last - 2 years?i have been very disapointed.

I own a 1999 new beetle with the 2.0 engine with 37,000 original miles. The car quit running approx. 2 1/2 yrs ago, approximately two months after i purchased it from a certified volkswagen dealer, used. A few days after deliverythere was a rotten egg smell, check engine light on, enginesluggish. After one month thebattery went dead completely. Replaced the battery, car would not run. Battery dead again after four days. I found info on the internet that security system must be set or the battery will last only four days. Inspected plugs, found heavy carbon buildup. Inspected pre o2 sensor, found same. Decided to overhaul eng. Found heavy carbon on tops of pistons and valves. Machine shop had to replace pistons, rings, all bearings, oil pump, plane the cylinder head, plane the head mating surface, replace seals, turn the flywheel. I had to also replace the water pump, timing belt, clutch, throwout bearing, o2 sensor, plug wires, and the dipstick holder. After considerable money spent, engine would start but not run. I found out from the dealer that if electrical power is lost, vehicle must be towed to a volkswagen dealer and be reprogrammed. It will not run until that is done. The reason given was that volkswagen did not want any owners to fix their own car. This could be a signifigant safety issue in a life threateningsituation! there are reports on several internet forums of the original batteries blowing up and even after replacement of the battery the vehicle would not run until it was reprogrammed. Volkswagen should be required to fix this problem. I would like to see a full investigation on this model to see if it should be sold in the us. There are too many reported defects on this model to list here, some that apply to this car, that are much more dangerous than i described here. Ihope that our government will straighten this company out and that owners will somehow be compensated.
While starting battery exploded.vehicle towed to dealer, and informed consumerthat the probelm was due to an electrical surge fromalternator . Feel free to provide any further information.
Battery cable has burned out twice since date of purchase. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further details. Rear hatch intermittently will not open with the remote due to it being out of adjustment, the left window switch is loose.nlm

Purchased 1999 vw beetle 20 months ago. Car has only 54,000 miles. Since owning the car have already over $3,500 in repairs. All of the repairs were done at my local darcar vw repair shop. I believe some of these repairs were recalls and have all receipt. Is there someone i can sent my repair receipts to to see if i can be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses which should have been recall services? i can forward receipts. Also seven days ago the passenger side window regulator broke and it appears it had been recalled per two vw owner who had same problems but i can't find the recall information on it. Can you suggest how i can view all recalls for 1999 vw beetle gls?

Purchased vehicle new in 1999. Was plagued with electrical problems through 2001 such as faulty radio ( 2occurrences) ,faulty door lock switchand 1 occurrence of non functioning lights(inside and out) , horn, door chime . Complained of smoke streaming from steering column in 2004. Smoke was consistent with melted plastic odor. Dealer was able to locate origin of odor in feb 2006. Ignition coil + wiring overheated and melted. Relay also overheated. Parts were replaced by dealer. Defective ignition coil retained.
Eighteen months after purchase, the vehicle would not start when consumer tried to turn it on.after the third time, consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer.consumer was informed it was a computer malfunction.*jg
Vehicle experiencing a problem with computer shutting downengine after replacingbattery.computer needed to be recoded. Consumer would like to know why this warningwas not listed inowner's manual when this problem occurred.please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.
While driving at 55 mph there was a loss of power.consumer has to reset the computer, and start the vehicle back up again.there was no prior warning that this would happen.
Vehicle caught fire on inside of ignition switch box. There was a bad connection in the ignition switch.fire meletedwires inside the box which caused shutdown in dashboard ie/ headlights/ windshield wipers, and etc.dealer's remedy was to tighten the wires in ignition box, but the electrical portion of dashboard would periodically go down.
Dt:consumercomplainedaboutproblemswith unlockingvehicle. When she turned the key the windows roll down on their own.it might not happen right at that time, but some time after the vehicle was turned on and off the windowsrolled down. Sometimes the keyless entry remote will work and sometimes it will not work.consumer knew of other people with the same type of vehicle having the same problem. Dealer was repairingthe problem . Dealer told consumer that repairs were not covered under warranty.repairs were doneat consumer's expense. Dealerreplaced the cylinder lock switch.consumerhad this problem since she owned the vehicle.

1999 ww beetle with many problems including shifting, brake switch (recall n4)**ccthe consumer could not shift out of park, which was related to the brake switch. The consumer then received a recall notice after already having the repairs done. The consumer didn't take the vehicle to a volkswagen dealer because they would only had paid for the switch and not the labor because at the time, the recall was not in effect. The serpentine beltand starter was replaced.
While driving about 30 mphvehicle will stall without a warning, and when consumer tried to start the engine again, it won't start. Failure due to relay part which was replaced by dealer.*ml

Battery light doesnt go on when the batter is dying. Wiring to headlight keeps "loosening" causing the headlights to fail. Had rear and front brakes replaced due to low ground clearance and snow getting lodged in them and freezing.
Electrical system had a failure in fuse box which caused some fuses to melt.one fuse shorted out a wire to the relay box which also sustained a short.head lights, defogger, horn, turn signals etc, became inoperative.please describe details.
Cooling problems led to overall diagnosis of cooling system.30 amp fuse located in fuse panel on top of battery was found to be burned and melted.the plastic fuse panel was destroyed and the fuse itself melted into the fuse holder.the contacts in the panel for the remaining fuses appear to be very small (approx 18-gauge wire size) and possibly this extremely small contact area contributed to the overheating, melting and burning observed.this is the exact same problem as detailed in this thread online:http://forums.newbeetle.org/showthread.php?s=e9aee49b8c9fddf9b634388731c5d59a&threadid=26315&perpage=15&highlight=30a%20fuse&pagenumber=1the fuse box and fuse (original oem green fuse) appeared the same as the pictures presented in the above-linked thread.
Fuse panel located on top of the battery melted in the area of the fuse for the radiator cooling fans. This further damaged the fuses for the brake system and the abs system. This caused power to the abs system to be lost. The dealer diagnosed this problem as shorted cooling fans. However, the wiring to the motors and the fan control unit were not affected. There was also the distinct smell of an electrical fire and melted plastic under the hood. The fuse panel has white deposits under its cover above the area that melted. I asked the dealer to give me the parts after the service. The fan motors appear to operate correctly when connected to a 12v power supply. This is a poor design that subjects the fuse terminals to corrosive fumes from the battery. The insert molded terminals then become corroded with high enough resistance to heat up and cause the fuse panel to melt and or catch fire. I'm glad that the panel was constructed of a flame retardant plastic or it would have certainly burned much more than it did. I am only too happy to furnish pictures if you would prefer to see the damage.

Failure of dashboard (airconditioning) controls caused car to catch on fire.car was completely destroyed.failure to address this defect could cause injury or death.

The contact owns a 1999 volkswagen beetle. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning light and coolant temperature warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the timing belt was defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14e007000 (engine and engine cooling). The failure mileage was 235,403.
My car- 1999 vw beetle was not fully inspected before i got the car from dealer.i just found out that my car has long list of parts need replacement to repair and i felt that it wasn't real safe because of strut shock and power steering also cv joints are getting bad in the under of hood. I found out that my car has no panel skid for prevent from wetting on motor parts and got bad acid on it. I has to order the parts for my car and hasn't driven for almost 6 months by so far.by right i don't have much money to pay for repairs.
While driving 30 mph, the motor blew. The consumer managed to pull over and had the vehicle towed. Please provide more information.
Engine light on, and car running rough, losing power and jerking upon acceleration.diagnosis was plug wires and plugs are fouled, causing ignition coil to burn out.warranty covers coil, but i have to pay for new plugs and wires because they are normal wear and tear service item.
The water pump has a part that goes into the engine; it's made of plastic and called an impeller.it is part of the water pump.the plastic impeller disintegrated, causing the engine to overheat.the engine light on the dashboard came on just minutes before the engine ceased up.other than that, there was no warning that the engine was running hot.normally when a water pump goes out, the water leaks out.in this case, the water remained in and did not circulate.repairer has asked owner for money to replace the engine entirely.vw will not stand by its manufacturer's warranty, which the owner has.the plastic impeller is a common design defect which vw knows has a short life, but they keep designing their vws with a plastic impeller!

My daughter, a current resident of arizona, currently is employed as a full-time nanny. She has in her care a two month old and will be expected to drive him about.
While driving at 35 mph engine fell out. As a result, the vehicle shut off.
At 25,000 miles the car started burning excessive amounts of oil. At 28,516 vw finally agrees the car is burning oil excessively. Vw replaced piston rings. But at 35,000 the problem returns! now vw states this is "normal". Why is this normal now and the same problem was not normal before? i have recently learned per volkswagen,is supposed to use a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. I was never informed of this by the dealership. This is totally ridiculous and unacceptable!!! its my opinion, but i suspect that vw is well aware of this problem. They probably don't want to eat the cost of replacing thousands of engines. So....they declared this situation "normal".i am total discussed with vw of america. Because this car burns more oil then the old heap i got tired of. I would like a new engine that does not burn oil!!!! "normal" is just a standard way to weasel out of taking any responsibility for the very real problems that myself and other have with their vehicles!!!! *ph
Water pump broke, causing the timing belt to break which resulted in all valves bent and an engine rebuild.the car had 69,000 miles...vw manual says manitenance at 120,000 miles.
While in motion, the red engine coolant light illuminated.consumer checked the coolant reservoir and found it to be empty.the cause, a leaking coolant reservoir cap.the red engine oil pressure light illuminates occasionally.the oil level was extrememly low.mazdas service manager informed consumer that the new beetles tends to use oil. The engine control unit failed also.the oil pan has a hole in it which allowed the oil level to continuously be low, therefore allowing the engine oil pressure light to continuously illuminate, also the timing belt and tensioner belt were replaced. *jg
When driving vehicle more than 10 minutes thermostat would overheat. While at a dealership, thermostat sensor that was replaced failed to correct the problem.also, mechanic indicated thatwater pump would need to be replaced if the thermostat still overheated.
When driving vehicle more than 10 minutes thermostat would overheat. While at a dealership, thermostat sensor that was replaced failed to correct the problem.also, mechanic indicated thatwater pump would need to be replaced if the thermostat still overheated.
Engine cover is poorly designed, and the car is too low.engine cover gets pulled and scrapes on the ground and rippes apart which goes back into the engine. This occurs whengoing over a large speed bump also pulling up to a cylinder block.
*jg
A hole developed in the oil pan, causing oil to leak which resulted in vehicle stalling. Dealer & manufacturer have been notified.
On 2 occasions when my car has been facing down on a slope it will not start and i have to put it in neutral and roll to level ground to get it to start.on one other occation my car did have a problem when i pulled into my parents driveway and i put my car in reverse , it did not go into gear and i rolled over my mom's flowers.the deal has checked in their database and with volkswagen of america and noone has reported a problem similar to mine.they tried to recreate what i described, but to no avail.to date i have not had any incident repeat and i have gone to my parents house to try to recreate it myself, but again to no avail.the dealer has been very helpful with any problem i have encounted with my new car.

While driving at 35 mphvehicle began to stall, and shake, showed a sign ofvehicle losing power.engine check light illuminated on the dash panel, andvehicle shut off.dealer has been contacted.engine also hesitates when accelerating from the start. Vehicle has had complaints regarding trunk and fuel release actuator cable.steering rods came loose and had to be resecured and mounting bolt..window motor failed.

I was driving along a straight, dry stretch of road at approximately 45 miles per hour, when my car suddenly accelerated and the steering locked up.i was unable to control my vehicle and crashed into an embankment.it is also important to note that the vehicle had been serviced (regular servicing) at the volkswagen dealership just 3 days before.in addition, volkswagen had a similar problem on its cabriolet about 8 years ago.this problem was caused by the water separator panel being bent during servicing.the outcome of this accident was $6000 worth of damage to my vehicle and minor injuries sustained by me.
While driving about 30 mphvehicle will stall without a warning, and when consumer tried to start the engine again, it won't start. Failure due to relay part which was replaced by dealer.*ml
After only 3 months of ownership, the malfuction engine indicator light came on and stayed on. Took the car to the service center, i guess they reset the sensor on it. The end of september the airbag light came on and stayed on. Contacted dealer and he set up appointment to have it looked at. They looked at it and said they would have to order the part to fix it. I waited about 1 1/2 weeks before i called the dealer to see what the holdup was. They picked up my car from work and took it to the service center on october 6th. My receipt that was printed, states that the air bag test failed and they replaced it and also some ring. Today, two days later the airbag light is on again!!!! i am wondering how safe it is to drive this vehicle with this problem. The car is going back to the service center on monday, oct. 11th.
The car stops dead - i know of a man who was killed in another vw beetle because of this....i heard on tv that ford might be recalled for a faulty relay part.why not vw?the malfunction light comes on and the car dies.my dealer had my car for one month and i didn't get any satisfaction until i called the main plant and until i filed a complaint with the dept of motor vehicles.i believe this is a large vw problem.
While driving with sun roof fully open vehicle shakes and shutters. Also there is something wrongwith the engine.
After driving car for an hour the engine light came on,. Dealer took car to check it out and in doing which damage the car further by dentingpassenger fender and bumper. Failed to tell me about this, however engine light was fixed (o2) sensor.
The yellow malfunction indicator light ame on while in motion.the malfunction was due to a faulty o2 sensor.*jg
Vehicle was brought in fo recall repairs, oxygen sensorhad to be replaced. Vehicle is making loud noises. Dealership is aware of problem.
While driving clutch went out, and the consumer could not shift the gears.after getting out of the vehicle there wasa fire under the hood.the fire department responded and put the fire out. Vehiicle was later towed. The air pump was defective. Vehicle was totaled.
Engine light came on due to faulty o2 sensor.
Consumer states both oxygen sensors have failed, consumer was told by dealership that the bad oxygen sensor has damaged the mass air flow device, consumer states he has received different information from dealer departments, some say it is becuase the gas in the state he lives in is not regulated as to quality and if premium quality gas is not used the parts will not be warranted.
The consumer stated that the air conditioner had stopped working.the consumer was told by the repairmen that the vehicle need a new compressor.*scc
Air conditioner turns off when coming down from highway speeds.

Consumer has been having alot ofproblems withelectrical features.consumer has replaced 2 batteries/ 1 cd changer/ 4 headlight bulbs, and air conditioneroutlet didn't work. Dealer stated vehicle had too many miles.problems existed since day 1.
Jack failure caused car to fall. Fortunately no person was under the car at the time. Dealer has no replacement jack in stock to compare/ascertain cause of failure. Should failed part be submitted to you?

The contact owns a 1999 volkswagen beetle. The brake light switch was replaced on 4/30/07 per nhtsarecall campaign id number: 06e049000.however, the brake lights didnot operate normally. The current and failure mileage were 104,000.
I commute on a 2 lane road to work and the danger of driving without brake lights puts not only myself but anyone in back of me in extreme danger of causing a accident.i feel that this is a safety related failure and should be covered under warranty for much longer than two years.not having followed myself i have no idea exactly how long i had been driving without brake lights.also with it being summer and light in the morning when i would leave i couldn't see the glare in my rear view mirror.
Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle was previously repaired under recall.the recalled part failed twice since the original part was replaced.in addition to the brake lights becoming inoperative, the transmission also locks resulting in the vehicle being inoperable.there is a nhtsa recall, 03v265000 concerning the brake light switch, however the recall did not correct the problem.the manufacturer was contacted and offered to reimburse the contact for the replacement part that was purchased.
In nov 2003 i had the brake light switch on my 1999 vw new beetle glx under recall 03v-265. Today (march 19, 2008) i learned that a second recall (#06v183000) was issued on may 4, 2006 which stated that "on certain passenger vehicles equipped with automatic or manual transmissions and cruise controls, a brake light switch on these vehicles may malfunction if it was installed incorrectly during safety recalls 03v-265"and that the corrective action was "dealers will install the newly designed brake light switch free of charge"i contacted vw about this recall (06v183000 ) at the number listed in it and they say they know nothing about it. This is probably because per action rq06004 this recall was listed as closed on august 7, 2006.i never received any notice of this second recall from vw even though the brake switch in my car was performed as part of the 1st recall (03v-265) and my car is of the type that the 2nd recall covers (i.e. Had 1st recall performed, has automatic transmission and cruise control).vw is now refusing to either inspect my car to ensure the original recall was performed correctly or replace the switch again per the remedy of the 2nd recall.there is no reason i should not have been notified of this 2nd recall. I have lived at the same address since 2000. The 1st recall was performed at the same local dealer where i bought the vehicle and have had it serviced in the time period since both the first and second recalls. And when i contacted vw at the phone number listed in the 2nd recall they definitely had my correct address and phone information on file.as i should have been notified of this prior recall and was not i think vw should replace the switch as per the remedy of the 2nd recall but they are refusing to do this.can someone please assist me with this?

My wife became stuck and could not driver her 1999 vw new beetle after defective brake light switch was pushing on her brake pedal. So i had to instruct her to remove brake light switch so the car could move. Also the brake light switch is on it third or fourth recall from vw. Why so many recalls? can't vw get it right?

While driving 5 mph and without hazard flashingwarning lightsblinked on and off on their own. Also, driver and passenger side windowsrolled up and down, andsrs light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. Consumer tookvehicle to the dealer for inspection on numerous occasions.but, mechanicwas unable to duplicate or resolve the problems.
Headlights burnt out.
Electrical1st the dealer charges for eveything they look at, and the work is never under warranty or recall. I have had two headlamps go out intermittently. My a/c switch when out, now the whole unit has gone out.the cost for repairs are outrageous.and they always rig their cars with special tools, so you cannot gpr elsewhere for service.
Headlights aimed too high.
Dealer hadto replaceheadlights7 times this year. Consumer states vehicle is not longer under warranty so she had to pay $60.oo for each head lamp.
Teh low beam headlights are inoperative. *jg
Eighteen months after purchase, the vehicle would not start when consumer tried to turn it on.after the third time, consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer.consumer was informed it was a computer malfunction.*jg
While driving at 60 mph.the consumer smelled a strong chemical odor in the cabin of the vehicle.the smell caused the consumer to feel nauseous and made it impossible to drive the vehicle.the vehicle was towed. Please provide further information.
While driving at any speed gas fumes leaked throughout the vehicle. Gas smell becameoverwhelming when vehicle was driven for a while. Dealershipinspected vehicle several times, but didnot find anything wrong with the vehicle.
Consumer complained abouta fuel leak. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, who indicated that the fuel pump had a crack in it. There wasa strong smell coming through the vents of the vehicle. Consumer contacted the manufacturer, but was told there was nothing they could do.
We purchased a used 99 vw beetle; the previous owners were having the same problem as us the check engine light keeps coming on. We have it checked out (diagnostic) and they tell us it show rich fuel. We pay around $250.00 each time to have it fixed and reset and it last for about six months and it does it again. I was told that there was a recall back in 2004 about a octain sensor. I believe this may be the problem and want to know what i can do to have this fixed right with no charge. If there was a recall sent out regarding this the previous owners did not receive one because they purchased it as a used vehicle as well. Please help this is driving us crazy and this is my teenage daughters vehicle.
Dt:consumercomplainedaboutproblemswith unlockingvehicle. Power door locks randomly unlock while driving.vw dealer claims it is a know computer glitch.
Battery cable has burned out twice since date of purchase. Dealer has been contacted. Please provide further details. Rear hatch intermittently will not open with the remote due to it being out of adjustment, the left window switch is loose.nlm
All of the electrical problems occur periodicaly. One day the gas gauge will show empty when the tank is full. The electric window went down and never came back up, they had to replace a switch in side the door. The right side door handle has to be pulled on twice to open from the outside. The rear hatch will not always open when released, you must push the buttom again to open it. And the reason i am filling out this questionnaire is because the car tonight would not start. The lights would come on, then off, then dim, then go bright. (the radio shows on its small window the word safe)the ignition switch does not seem to be working. So i decided to check out your web site for any recalls or service bulletins. The car will be heading to the dealership in the morning. Thank you for your time and consideration.
The contact owns a 1999 volkswagen beetle. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated to the contact that the clutch, pressure plate, and bearings needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the problem persisted. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
While in motion the speedometer stopped working.*jg
Speedometer/odometer cluster has failed 3 times.works properly if headlight switch is on, but malfunctions when switch is off.
Current problem:manual transmission stick shift mechanism completely broke during shifting at highway speeds (during rush hour).it went to neutral, but i was able to find 3rd gear and get the car off of the road.
Hatchback rattles while driving.also whenputtingvehicle in drive , vehicle hesitates and stalls.
The left side driveshaft cracked and it ruptured automatic transmission.this occurred in may of 1999.the transmission busted again in december of 1999.
Vehicle will not go into reverse.also, there isnoise like a banging tapping.dealership is aware ofproblem.

K i recently bought a 99 vw beetle and now all of a sudden my car jerks when it hits like 3000rpm and it idles higher then it should.
The contact owns a 1999 volkswagen beetle which was purchased on february 13, 2010. While driving at speeds of 70 mph, the vehicle shifted into neutral while in drive mode. The instrument panel indicated that the vehicle was in neutral gear; however, the gear shift selector was in the drive position. She then attempted to shift back into drive and the vehicle began to jerk and lunge violently. The dealer was contacted and they attempted to correct the failure by replacing parts unknown to the contact. While driving home from the dealer, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where they reprogrammed the computer, which also did not correct the failure and the vehicle continued to shift out of gear. The failure and current mileages were under 121,000.
When consumer putsvehicle in drive the vehicle rattles and hesitates while driving.
Problem: gear shifter for automatic transmission locked in park position.on multiple occasions the transmission shifter has locked in the park position.in order to get the car into a drive gear, it was necessary to turn the car off andon several times while pumping the brake pedal. It has taken as long a 30 mins. Of this process to get the car out of park.on each occasion my car was in a parked position. However, this problem could potentially occur if the car were placed into park at a traffic light or stop sign. Should this happen, it would create a traffic hazard.this same problem has been noted by multiple consumers throughout various internet websites.

Forward gear is 3rd only. When in drive, does not shift from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4th gears. This has happened 4 times since 2/99.
Driving down nj parkway,65 mph. Transmission went out, thumping, losing speed in heavy traffic.nothing done to correct after reading blog about this problem. I can't afford to have it fixed based on this info. Car is now undrivable.shifting erratically if at all. Jerking between gears.

V.w. Beetle automatic transmission failure - hard shift or will not shift.

While driving clutch went out, and the consumer could not shift the gears.after getting out of the vehicle there wasa fire under the hood.the fire department responded and put the fire out. Vehiicle was later towed. The air pump was defective. Vehicle was totaled.
I bought a 1999 volkswagen beetle on august 4, 2004.on august 27, 2004 i brought the car to a vw dealership and they told me that it needed a new clutch.i then brought the car to the dealership that i bought it from and asked them to fix the clutch, as it is under warranty.they refused, and said that i ruined the clutch due to my driving.according to them this can happen in the 23 days that i owned the car.they still continue to refuse to fix the problem.
The left side driveshaft cracked and it ruptured automatic transmission.this occurred in may of 1999.the transmission busted again in december of 1999.
1999 volkswagen beetle under warranty of 10 years or 100,000 miles-power train-transmission.because parts were left out of the transmission during repair in 2001 and because the transmission would not shift properly from the purchase date of 4-28-1999, many close calls/near accidents were experienced on the freeway.the beetle jumped out of 1 gear or another and in freeway traffic that is life threatening.the manufacturer and dealer classic vw of escondido, ca. Did not correct the problem. From 1999 to 2-03, 7 attempts at repair with the one 2-13-03 by paradise vw of indio, ca, 110miles from home.one dealer would not even attempt because they wouldn't get paid.per phone 2 other dealers told us to go back to classic where we purchased the beetle and have them fix their own bad work.the transmission jumped out of gear at freeway speeds, 70 mph, and when you loose gear in that kind of traffic in the 2nd or 3rd lane you are in real danger.about 10 of this kind of near accident occurred.luckilyaccidents were avoided.freeway travel cannot always be avoided.could not get the car repaired so we drove it.classic always maintained the car was repaired or didn't need repair, and we drove it.we always felt in danger.this type of defect needs more attention because it is life threatening, a death waiting to happen.
After stoppingat a gas station, the vehicle would not go into gear.the consumer had taken the vehicle to the dealer in which they replaced the shift carrier.the consumer felt that this part should be made of metal instead of plastic.*sc
While driving in metropolitan washington, d.c. Beltway ("highway") traffic at evening rush hour, i was preparing to switch lanes and attempted to shift gears .... When my stick shift broke (one piece became two pieces).i was fortunate that no accident happened, i was further blessed that i was able to coast at highway speed (car went to neutral) until i was able to move from the middle lane to the slower right hand lane.at this point i continued on with flashers and was able to put the car in third gear, but the stick shift remained broken.i have asked approximately 50 people if they have ever heard of such a malfunction.none had! i feel uncomfortable dealing with only vw people concerning the acceptibility of this problem.i contacted usaa and they recommended that i get your group involved.thank you
While driving at 55 mph the driver shift gears and the lever broke off in their hand. Vehicle has a manual transmission.the dealership indicated that the shifter and all related components had broke. Please provide more details. Ts
The 5th gear in the manual transmission slipped out of gear a number of times rendering me helpless in freeway traffic. I had made at least 5attempts to have repairs done on the transmission but the dealership was unable to repair the transmission properly and when it was repaired it was improperly repaired, with parts left out. Because the problem was not duplicated by another dealer no repairs were done until the car was seen by a 3rddealer who found the problem and corrected it. The transmission was underwarranty of 10 yrs/100,000 miles. . we, the consumer, must learn to be agressive and get proper repairs done on our automobiles and we must use everymeans available to us to encourage/force the dealerships to be more aware of consumer saftey.i could have been killed or killed others on the freeway due to the car slipping out of gear.i need to use my car and i did try to get it fixed so it would be safe on all roadways and in all driving conditions on roadways.if a car cannot be repaired by a dealer they should be honest enough to admit their lack of skills and knowledge and the consumer referred to a place of repair that has the knowledge, skills and tools of the trade to accomplish the repair. A car out of gear at freeway speeds on a freeway is as dangerous as any of the top 3 dangers listed and should be added to the list. So should the names of the dealers who are so lax in accomplishing life saving repairs.

The contact owns a 1999 volkswagen beetle.while driving, the driver's seat moved by itself and prevented the contact from reaching the accelerator pedal. The driver observed that the seat had completely separated from the vehicle. Aaa stated that the plastic failed in the seat and that the screws were detached.aaa replaced the screws in the seat so that the contact could drive home. The dealer repaired the seat and confirmed that the screws and the plastic failed.the second time the seat failed, the dealer would not repair or inspect it to determine the cause of failure.the dealer also stated that her vehicle was no longer under warranty.the manufacturer has been notified. The speed and powertrain were unknown.the current mileage was 52,000 and failure mileage was 50,000. Updated 12/12/2007 the consumer stated the dealer called and informed her the cost of the repair would $178.00, however the consumer is on a fix income and can not afford the cost of the repair. Height adjustment of head restraints on front seat cannot lower to proper head height
Consumer is not satisfied with the design of the drivers headrest, sits too high and can't be adjusted to accomodate short drivers, creates discomfort. Headrest was completely removed.
Driver cannot adjust the headrest down to see out of the driver's side back and rear windowsto change lanes. Dealer contacted and gave reference sheet of 1-8-99, #99-001, stated change in design for 1999 model. Problem still exists. Warranty effective and does not cover..et.
After being rear ended, the drivers seat reclined causing the driver to sustain whip lash.after making contact with the manufacturer, they stated the seat was designed that way.the vehicle was totaled.

As you drive the abs light displays on the dash and the brake pedal becomes very soft and long. It compromised braking distance. This has happen 3 times in the last 6 months. The first time after only 19 044 miles. We talked with volkswagen and they shared .

1999 volkswagen beetle having problems with tie rod equipment.*mrthe vehicle was hard to steer and noisy on turns. The dealer replaced the rack and pinion gear and tie rod ends.the vehicle was taken bake to the dealer for front end vibration and it was determined that the tire rod ends were worn.the windows would not close due to defective regulators.the abs light illuminated.the dealer replaced the left rear speed sensor and rest the readiness codes.
I have a 99 vw beetle, 2.0 l 4 cylinder 5 spd manual gti. I have had continual abs light problems since 10000 miles. The left rear speed sensor has been replaced 5 times.the vw dealer in hi at 16 k says it the control module after replacing the sensor and wire harness. Now at 28000 miles the abs light is on and the brake light flashes and alarms. I seems this is a class engineering problem that requires a recall to fix.
The abs light stays on all of the time.whenever i drive in wet conditions the brake warning light flashes and a buzzer sounds.vw dealer recommends replacement of abs control module at a cost of $1,680.
While traveling 50mph with the cruise control on, went to apply brakes to release cruise control & failed to release or to slow down vehicle. Instead, vehicle started to increase in speed& hit a concrete barrier. Also had hit or clipped 2 other vheicles. Then the vehicle slid sideways & came to a stop. No injuries.
Consumer complains of squeaking brakes.

This it the fifth time it has been in the shop and i am worried about the safety of the car and want some one to check it over and clear it to drive so i don't have to worry about getting in to a accident with a unsafe car would you please help me to take care of this so i have a safe car to take my children in and don't have to worry about it going off the road .
We test drove cars at rod & tys all star auto in puyallup, we noticed that the tires were bald and one car had a bulge and tear in the outside of the tire. I brought this to their attention and they said they aren't required to make these cars safe. That is the buyers responsibility. I was very upset. These tires are so bald they aren't even legal. I would like this place investigate to shut down before some is hurt or killed from the dangerous cars.
When tires were rotated, the technician found three bulges on the inside sidewall of the left rear tire.the goodyear dealer claimed it was road damage and would not honor the tire warranty.the tire was less than two years old and had gone less than 20,000 miles.it had replaced the original, whose sidewall was punctured when my wife hit something in the road.i suspect that the sidewalls on this model tire should be stronger than they are.
Goodyear eagle tire p205/55r15 experienced tread separation, dealer refused to talk to consumer about tire.
These tires were on the vehicle when i purchased it. The tread began to separate from the body of the tire at 18,500 miles.i contacted perelli tire of north america.they told me that this was a misapplication of that tire.volkswagen engineers determined tgat an 89-load carrying capacity is necessary for a 1999 beetle.however, the tires that volkswagen had installed on my car was rated at 82.perelli is helping me with this problem, but is concerned as to how many vehicles have tires installed by vw unsafely.having contacted schumacher vw of west palm beach,fl, they deny it is their problem and refused me any resolution in this matter.perelli tire nd i feel that the public should be made aware of this safety issue before it becomes a firestone/explorer problem.this is a problem that can be easily remedied by simmple education to dealers who care about their consumers.thank you.

The consumer stated that after 2 months after the windows were repaired, everytime he turned on the vehicle, a loud beeping noise would sound and a flashing red light appeared.*scc
Defective plastic speedometer drive gear in transmission. After driving at highway speed for approximately 5 minutes the speedometer gradually drops causing you to think that your driving slower than you actually are. At 65mph the speedometer floats between 45 - 55 mph. At 80mph it reads 60. This problem causes the cruise control to constantly try to speed the car up.i'm afraid to let my teen driver use the car. Cost of repair at private shop is over $1000. Due to intense labor to replace broken gear. Transmission must be taken apart to fix. Dealer wants to replace the entire transmission for $4000. These beetles are popular with new teen drivers and this is a dangerous defect. An internet search also shows the same problem occurring in the jetta.
Accelerator still activated when pressing on brake pedal. Too close together! i have confirmed this with many other new beetle owners. Also, visibility is very poor when changing lanes because front headrests cannot be lowered enough and pillars obstruct
Vehicle experienced hesitation upon acceleration, dealer adjusted the throttle body control module.
K i recently bought a 99 vw beetle and now all of a sudden my car jerks when it hits like 3000rpm and it idles higher then it should.
Rapid uncontrolled acceleration.
Defect in driver side power window. Window not used for several years. As of may 28, 2011 window opened & will not close.
Vent louver were breaking and were loose, dealer replaced vent.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 45 mph on normal road conditions, smoke was noticed coming from under the dashboard.there were no warning lights illuminated.then, the vehicle caught on fire and was evacuated.there were no injuries sustained.the police and fire department were present, and a police report was taken.the fire department determined an electrical failure from the heater fan was the cause of the fire.the insurance company declared the vehicle a total loss.the manufacturer was contacted however, refused to open an investigation.the contact expressed concern that the fire could have injured an occupant.
Consumer has been having alot ofproblems withelectrical features.consumer has replaced 2 batteries/ 1 cd changer/ 4 headlight bulbs, and air conditioneroutlet didn't work. Dealer stated vehicle had too many miles.problems existed since day 1.
Vehicle was parked when consumer noticed flames 1 foot high coming from dashboard.at dealer at this time, heater switch caused fire.
Eighteen months after purchase, the vehicle would not start when consumer tried to turn it on.after the third time, consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer.consumer was informed it was a computer malfunction.*jg

Drivers side window regulator failed - cable 'shredded' and automatic window no longer works to 'roll up' the window.found many results online for other vw owners experiencing the exact same problem with their oe regulators.

The first occurrence (driver's side window) occurred within 6,000 miles of driving off the dealer's lot -- the second occurrence (passenger side window) occurred today, 7/24/2006.the events leading up to today's incident, albeit identical to the first occurrence 3 years ago, goes something like this:i hit the 'down' button to lower the window; the window lowers itself and stays in the down position -- thereby subjecting the driver and passengers to thepossibility of:a: exposure to the elements including the possibility of dust/debris causing temporary blindness.b: exposure to noxious air fumes from inner-city driving.c: making the occupants of the vehicle more-likely subjects of violent crimes up to and including car-jacking, rape, armed robbery.
Windows onpassenger side and driver side will continuously fall wheneverconsumer is drivingvehicle. Contacted dealer . Dealer was not willing to do anything.
Current problem:manual transmission stick shift mechanism completely broke during shifting at highway speeds (during rush hour).it went to neutral, but i was able to find 3rd gear and get the car off of the road.

I have a record of all past service receipts (dating back to the purchase date) and have documented proof of recent problems and repairs to the a/c and electrical wiring on this car in the past. My daughter, a current resident of arizona, currently is employed as a full-time nanny. She has in her care a two month old and will be expected to drive him about. Dt:volkswagen beetle 1999.the consumer is not satisfied with mirrors on the left driver's side.they have too much of a blind spot for oncoming vehicles.also, the post between the windshield and the left and right sides, before gettingto the doors, are also giving the consumer trouble, as being a blind spot.the consumer pulled out onto the highway in front of oncoming traffic, and didn't see another vehicle because of the blind spots from the car.*sc
