My wife slid into a curb during a left-hand turn into our neighborhood due to ice. She damaged the right front wheel and a couple mechanics, scratching the right rear wheel as well. There is no damage to any other part of the exterior; however, this curb impact set off all of the interior side airbags, including one seat airbag. My wife received minor pain from airbag impact but thankfully my children were not in the car because a side airbag deployed directly inside my child's head restraint. In the words of the insurance adjuster, and the service technicians at multiple dealers and body shops, they have never seen airbags deploy like this due to an impact with a curb, with so little damage as well. Total cost to repair around $10k, resale value dropped 20% according to dealer quote, as airbag deployment is on carfax. It has been three months and vw has yet to manufacture the seat belts and seat cover for replacement. We have been without the car all this time and it could be several more months before we even get a true timeline...all due to an impact with a curb. To make things more interesting, there is another atlas who also slid into a curb due to ice during the same storm, only damage to wheels, airbags deployed, and they are still without their car as well, three months later. Vw support refuses to release report that dictates the airbags deployed properly, stating it's normal and therefore our fault. Considering the obvious and the testimonies of auto body specialists, there is something wrong with airbag sensors.

The contact owns a 2018 volkswagen atlas. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at 45 mph, she had hit a storm drain on the side of the road which caused all side curtain and passenger air bags to deploy. The vehicle shut off as the air bags deployed. The police were called and a police report (#20s000488) was filed. No medical attention was given at the scene; the driver suffered minor scratches and bruises cause by the seat belt. There was no damage to the vehicle; however, the vehicle was towed to mike steven volkswagen (11211 e kellogg dr n, wichita, ks 67207) for an investigation. The manufacturer was notified and pulled the computer data from the vehicle. Data showed that aair bag sensor was activated which deemed the contact responsible for the air bag deployment. The vehicle had not been repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 31,000. *ln

The contact owns a 2018 volkswagen atlas. While driving less than 5 mph, the vehicle slid onto a curb, causing damage to the rear passenger side wheel. The contact stated that both the driver and passenger side curtain air bags and the front passenger side air bag erroneously deployed. Also, the front driver and passenger side seat belts were damaged. The cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was towed to a body shop. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. Hawk volkswagen (2861 west jefferson st, joliet, il) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 2,000.

"error airbag "light with airbag symbol came during driving on 2-2-2019, error will not go away after turning engineon and off vehicle,vw 2018 atlas v6 see-mail: (xxxx)parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Air bag error indicator keeps going off and the passenger air bag constantly turns off and on when a front passenger is sitting in the seat. This occurs when the vehicle is in motion and stationary.

While driving on at least 10-12 occasions as of today, 1/28/20, the error:airbag message has popped up on our screen behind steering wheel both with a passenger present and without. Then the light on the dashboard indicates that both airbags are turned off. Also, there appears to be an electrical issue with the drivers visor light. It will turn on when you move the mirror slightly but if you open the mirror all the way it blinks a few times then turns off.

Purchased new 2018 atlas at herog meier vw dealership in beaverton oregon on 5-19-18. Upon driving home from dealership the airbag error light came on and would not go out. Called dealer once home and immediately drove back to dealer. They said to drive it and come back monday to service department. Car has been under three attempted repairs since then with local dealer technicians and even regional mid level technician calling them to walk through repairs over phone. Still no fix and they have no idea what the cause is. It is now going on almost three weeks and i still don't know what is wrong with my car. Turns out through questioning service department that this airbag issue came up prior to them selling us car as technician mentioned that wiring harness for airbag was replaced previously? this was sold to us as a new car but in reality we were sold a defective car with airbag issues. Still no resolution. Very unsafe and dangerous as technician said unsafe to drive the car as airbags can fail.

Airbag error message on dashboard/light illuminated.2018 vw atlas 20k miles

Recall 20ah is completely unnaceptable. There are 8 different possible repairs that fall under this recall. These repairs range from airbag software updates to sunroof repairs. How is it legal for them to combine these repairs? as a mechanic and a consumer it is bad for business as the various parts/ inspections neccessary make it nearly impossible to accomodate the repairs.

Side air bags deployed on passenger side tires hit cubs...no direct damage what so ever to car just rims. An oncoming car was coming too close to me. :30 seconds later (right in front of my gated community), every single air bag deployed except front and passengerair bags. The car is motion :30 after interaction with curb when the air bags deployed and car stopped in the middle of the street. It was in a neighborhood in fresno 93711 (fir street)

My 2018 vw atlas came from the factory with the a/c condensation drain tube twisted. This is a known issue with almost 9700 2018 vw atlas vehicles. A safety recall was issued to replace the drain hose and the air bag module. Somehow my car was missed and the dealer and volkswagen does not want to acknowledge the issue and replace the air bag module. The manufacture recall number is 87f9 the nhtsa recall number is 18v-537. The recall states that if the drain tube is twisted it and the module are to be replaced. I am trying to find out why my atlas was not listed in the recall. It appears to be in the vin range listed on the recall.

Car indicating air bag problems. Saying air bag error.

When riding in the passenger seat the air bag would disengage and engage as the person moved in the seat with the movement of the car. Moved the seat back and it went off, dealership mechanic could find nothing wrong. Last happened this morning, started after a few seconds of grinding, then went 12 mph, shut down, then started fine.had the vehicle for 14 months the battery went dead, when pushing the start button it would catch and continue to try starting even when the finger was removed. When it started epc would come up and the vehicle would move at about 12 mph. Shut the vehicle down and start again, it would run ok. Have had it into repairs twice and nothing is found, yet it continues to start or not start and run slow. Warning comes up check running light, check right headlight, check left headlight. Replaced the battery two months ago, have already had to charge because it has gone dead. It is like the computer panel is not turning off. The vehicle has always been stopped - parked when it will not start, sometimes for a few minutes some times over night after having to use the fog lights. I have all the recalls fixed, but this started after having those fixed. My battery was replaced after 45,000 miles.

2018 atlas with under 17k and air bag error comes on. Also leaking coolant.

There have been seven recalls on the 2018 atlas launch edition. Cook vw in fallston has refused to repair at least 5 recalls. It's been months and they haven't repaired anything. We took faith in these people and they could care less for my family's safety. Today we got a recall letter about the ignition. That makes 6 recalls they will not fix. Multiple occasions. Don't have dates but they should be in the database at this dealership. They all happened in 2018.

I was stopped at a busy intersection when the battery died. This was the second time in 2 weeks that the battery died. Traffic had to be rerouted around me as i sat waiting for a jump start. I took it to the dealer and they say the batter is on back order which makes me think that this is a systemic problem affecting this vehicle.

Car was parked in driveway, turned car on and lights indicated low voltage and turned car off. Turned car back on so car could charge battery but a/c wasn't working and power steering wasn't working so put in reverse to see if it was a fault and start driving and everything died instantly and car had to be towed from spot.

My vehicle battery died after refueling. And i had to call for roadside assistance for a jump. Vehicle infotainment system showed 2 messages: 1)12 volt battery low and recharge while driving2) error start/stop system

Vehicle goes into emergency mode for 4th time. Happened twice in 2 days. A total of 4 times in 5 months. With no warning, multiple warning lights come on and the car applies emergency braking until the car is brought to a stop. There is no opportunity to choose a safe place to bring it to a stop. Driver is unable to accelerate until car is parked and restarted. The 4th time this happened, was on an interstate traveling at 75 to 80mph with vehicles around traveling at same speeds or in excess of that speed. Luckily there was an opening on the shoulder that i was able to quickly pull the car into and the car behind me didn't rear end me. This is the 4th time it's happened and could have caused bodily harm. Vw does not care. A software update was performed in february that was supposed to fix the problem. Because it didn't, vw wanted to replace my entire ecm because they thought it was faulty. After threat of buyback did they finally start digging into the car. Techs found a faulty relay switch. They replaced it and said problem couldn't be recreated so it was fixed 'as far as anyone could tell' and didn't need a new ecm.

Blind spot awareness sometimes does not alert tp cars on the drivers side of the vehicle. The blind spot light remains on after a turn signal is activated and comes on while on some roadways for no apparent reason. The vehicle is moving during these problems. Ongoing problem for over a year

Brand new 2018 atlas battery problem - battery drains completely in less than 3 days when car is switched off and parked in attached garage. Happened twice in two months. Service responded by saying there are several computers that drain battery even when car is shutdown. Suggested to drive for 30 mins every 2 days. The battery drained the second time inspite of following these instructions. Complete battery drain in less than 3 days even with car completely switched off in garage is unacceptable.

Sitting at a red light and when it turned green, my start/stopfunction would not turn my car back on. The dash had all sorts of lights flashing and my car would not start. Said the 12v battery was drained. Had to push my car out of the way and get someone to jump my car.

Battery keeps dying. Seems to be a rampant problem with vw atlas. Https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t73111_ds837472

I was driving my 2018 vw atlas with 8,800 miles on it on 11/5/18.i was stopped at a traffic light and when the light turned green the car's engine did not turn back on from idling and all the lights on the dashboard started going off telling me various things. I do not think having an ecofriendly car is worth it turning off to not turn back on when it's supposed to.i had to have it towed to the dealership, who fixed the car telling me that there were software updates and that the battery was drained.the printout from working on it says that the battery charging system is good but the battery was defective internally, on a car that's a little over a year old.there was absolutely no warning, the car would not recognize my key, would not turn on, and essentially was useless in traffic and extremely unsafe. I am thankful my children were not in the car. Vw claims the problem is fixed but reading others complaints i am doubtful and afraid that it's only a matter of time before this happens, without warning, again.i cannot have this happen due to safety reasons, being a single parent of two young kids, and i had to also miss a day of work to deal with a problem that should never have happened in the first place.i am also wondering if this problem has anything to do with my car having an oil spill after an oil change that the dealership did incorrectly in august.they did not tighten the cap to the extent it should have been tightened and oil spilled all over my garage, stained it, and it's never coming out. Vw fixed that and gave a free oil change in the future?i really hope that did not mess up my new car and cause this new issue to happen.i cannot have any more issues happening with this car and the battery/computer issues need to be fixed so that they don't ever happen again.

I was driving the car on a city street when it suddenly just shut off and would not come back on. This is the second time this has happened, and there is no warning and no way to get the car pulled to safety.

Drove to husbands office and parked in lot. After about 5 minutes received a warning that i needed to drive to charge battery. Tried to go but car wouldn't start. Had to be towed to dealership. Service center said that battery was dead and needed to be replaced. Bought the car new in july 2018. Read online that this appears to be a known problem with 2018 atlas.

I pulled up to a red light at a busy intersection and the auto start/stop activated stopping the engine.when the light turned green, the engine would not restart and a warning popped up stating the battery was almost dead and i should drive to charge the battery.it was a little too late for that!i did not receive any type of warning prior to the battery dying, and why on earth would the start/stop allow the engine to stop if the battery didn't have enough juice to restart the vehicle??i received a lot of angry honking from people stuck behind me in the intersection, but thankfully a cop nearby saw what was going on and stopped all traffic to assist with pushing my vehicle off the road.my car is barely a year old, this should not have happened.i was three miles from a huge international airport and on my way to catch a flight, but instead i had to wait on roadside assistance to come help my stranded vehicle.

Twice i have been stranded because the auto start stop is not providing enough power to the battery and therefor the vehicle will not start sometimes without being jumped.i have been stranded twice because the auto shut off has turned the vehicle off at a light and then the vehicle would not restarte.

Atlas is on its 3rd battery in 30,000 miles. When the battery fails it will die in an intersection during auto start stop. After boosting electronic steering, brakes, adaptive lighting, regular lighting, blinkers all fail and often limits to 15 mph

Vehicle stops suddenly and shuts off. Sloped driveways.vehicle in motion approaching end of any driveway with certain angles will suddenly slam on the brakes and shut down, leaving stranded until restart. Possible to be rear ended or hit from any direction where traffic may be coming from. Sensors beep quickly right before this happens. The vehicle has plenty of ground clearance.

Battery dies with short idle. Waited less than 10 minutes for my husband and warning came on to drive the car to charge the battery. I was in a parking lot with air conditioning on. Engine had manually shut off so i went to restart and battery would not turn on. This has happened before.

I was driving on a busy highway and came to a stop in traffic.the auto start-stop activated, and the engine turned off while i was stopped.traffic started moving again so i took my foot off the brake, which is typically when the engine restarts, but the engine was completely silent and the car was dead.i tried restarting it to no avail.i had this same issue two months ago, and volkswagen replaced the battery.after the car died, i got an error message saying the battery was low and i should drive to recharge it, however at that point the battery was too dead to drive.i really wish this error message would have shown up before the car died.why did the auto start-stop activate if the battery didn't have enough juice to activate the engine??two different batteries, same issue.

Car randomly puts transmission into emergency mode

The battery on my vehicle has died multiple times. It is only a year old but it has died while drivingin the auto start/stop mode and after parked at work and in my garage. Today it was -25 degrees f and it completely died on me after being at work for 4 hours, which was incredibly dangerous. Also, more often than not, my auto start on my key fob doesn't work either.

On oct 28 the car stopped at a red light on a busy intersection and the start-stop engine shut off, then when the traffic light turned green the battery didn't have enough power to crank the engine started again.i took car to the vw dealer where 7 recalls were serviced and i was told the problem should be corrected.2 weeks later the same problem occurred.there seems to be a drain on the battery and the computer doesn't know to avoid start-stop braking when power is too low to start the car.i called the dealer again and they said they could look at it but they don't know of any other problem and couldn't recreate the issue when they had the car for 2 days. I searched the internet and found this thread:https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t73111_ds837472 where this seems to be a very common problem and putting multiple people in dangerous situations without power.

Purchased new 2018 vw atlas with now, 10k miles. The last 2 weeks the dash sensors have been randomly going off & on.sunday 02/10 i was driving, the vehicle shut off while in motion. Brakes locked, no steering control, no electrical. When tried to restart the first time -t he sensor said to 'drive to charge 12v battery' but the car would not turn back over to do so. Towing company was able to jump it, the battery was running @ 15v which is too high for vw (confirmed with service tech this is abnormal).was not able to keep it running, so we had it towed to the dealership.dealership called & said "bad battery vw atlas is known for chronic battery failure".i was told a new one is on backorder with no eta - but that my atlas is sitting in the lot next to another atlas with the same problem, that has been waiting on a replacement for 3 weeks.will use a loaner car for a month until mine is functioning. I was also told the replacement battery may or not be a fix/solution but it's all they can do for now to get the car running.beside myself there has been no formal recall to this to prevent catastrophic injury to vw atlas owners who own a vehicle that fails while in motion.located on a city street - did involve local law enforcement to prevent additional threats to danger in the roadways.

When the vehicle is in motion, specifically when accelerating but at a low speed (when the doors would normally auto lock) the locks attempt to 'unlock' repeatedly. There is also a light in the cargo area that doesn't turn on consistently and sometimes flickers when the car is running, in park, and the rear gate is open.

While sitting at a red light for about a minute the car turns off due to the cars on/off feature. When the light turned green the car would not start back up. I had to put the atlas in park and rest set to turn it on. It will not turn back on until after a few tries. This has happened to me about 5 different times now. I now drive with that feature turned off until vw can fix this glitch. Very unsafe while sitting traffic and car is stalled in the middle of the road.

Car automatic start/stop function frequently fails to restart engine. This has happened over ten times with two of those almost ending in me being rear ended at high speed. Dealer says battery is defective and replaced the battery but issue is happening again. No way to permanently disabled start/stop function. This is a safety hazard.

The contact owns a 2018 volkswagen atlas. Within weeks of owning the vehicle, there was a failure with the strut mounted system. Furthermore, an abnormal rattling noise was heard on both sides of the front end of the vehicle. In addition, the front assist with autonomous emergency braking system engaged several times without warning. The failure caused the vehicle to seize while in motion with no other vehicle nearby. The dealer (danbury volkswagen, 29 sugar hollow rd, danbury, ct 06810, (203) 744-5201) had the vehicle for over two months for servicing. The cause of the failures was not determined. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was not available.

The ignition switch, if pressed, will turn off the engine while the car is in motion.the ignition switch isnext to the shiftgear and may be accidentally pressed, causing the car to stop while in motion.this is a safety risk which may cause injury or death.

Intermittent stalls, sometimes in traffic or at busy intersection during normal operation and caused by discharged battery and/or poor battery charging

The battery died when the car was six months old while in a store parking lot. They said it was a bad fuel cell and replaced it with the same battery. 8 months later the battery died again in the snow with two young children in the car. We were unable to jump it. The battery dying is now a knowissue and they will replace it with a different battery. But they are not recalling it yet even though it is a common problem. My friends atlas died at a stop light due to the auto shut off feature. It is incredibly unsafe.

After stopping at a red light at the traffic the car would not restart, the battery of engine died.

The most concerning safety issue is the malfunctioning auto start/stop system. On four occasions, it has shut off the vehicle while in motion, pulling into a parking spot, resulting in loss of power steering. On a separate occasion, it shut-off the vehicle while stopping to pay the parking attendant but failed to restart the vehicle when i released the brake and step on the accelerator. I had to put the vehicle in park and manually restart the vehicle. I have also had multiple experiences when i have turned off the auto start/start when i started the vehicle only to have it reactivate itself and shut-off the vehicle when i stopped at an intersection. Other issues involve the "infotainment" system and climate control electronics. On multiple occasions, the radio has turned itself on after i have turned it off. As for the climate control system, it periodically deactivates the rear passenger compartment climate control and shuts off airflow to the rear passenger compartment and i have to manually reset the system through the button on the dashboard. These experiences indicate the vehicle electronic and software systems are unstable and the volkswagen dealer has not been able to fix the issues, as they have recurred after the dealer claimed to fix the issues.i am concerned about my family's safety in this malfunctioning vehicle.the date below is the most recent event involving the auto start/stop system. The first occurrence was in mid-february 2018, approximately two weeks after purchasing the vehicle.

I had 2 incidents when using the start-stop system. The first time was a couple of months back. I was driving to my work. When i stopped at a red light (very busy avenue at mathilda ave, sunnyvale with 4 lanes traffic in one way), when i tried to start, the car would not start. I had to restart the engine again to start the car. The second time, 12/2/2018 5:50pm. I was driving with my wife and two of our kids (one infant under 1). We stopped for the red light at the cross road of jackson st and meek ave, hayward (very busy intersection with 3 lanes traffic in one way). When i tried to start, the car completely stopped there and would not ignite at all. We had to call 911 immediately because the speed limit is very high and it put my family into a risk of being hit. The battery completely failed and i can not even put it to a n gear to push the car manually. We had to wait for the officers to come and helped to stop the traffic. The officer helped us to jump start the car and we were rescued. I can not imagine that what would happen if there were a hit accident. We were stucked there for more than 1 hour. Now that i am feeling very unsafe to drive this car again let alone that it put my whole family into a risk of being hit by running high speed traffic.the dealership service stated that the battery had low voltage reading at 62%, and battery defective was found. The battery was replaced 2 days after.i got the reply from vw custom care that the 2018 atlas should be good to drive without being returned or replaced.i feel that is unacceptable. From the manual of 2018 atlas, the start-stop system won't switch off the vehicle in case o the battery voltage is low. Why did the start-stop system shut down the car in case of a known low battery voltage at 62% ? *dt

Two weeks ago, our 2018 atlas displayed faulty steering lock. Vehicle was disabled and towed to dealership.after $1,300 in repairs with new steering module, the vehicle displays this again, and won't move.vehicle is at dealership again and is dangerous because if this happens when driving, the vehicle won't steer and is going inoperable.

The vehicle will not start if it is really cold or it has been sitting for days without being started. I am taking it in to the dealership today.

The vehicle was purchased in november of 2017 and the battery cannot maintain it's charge.we have experienced a drained battery five times in the first year of ownership.the most recent occurrence happened on 12/2/2018.

Battery issue-the start/stop feature drains the battery.a 2018 atlas battery died while the car was on at an intersection. Was in the middle of an intersection waiting to turn and the car shut down.it cause everything to try off and steering and braking were impossible.it is a known issue at vw and there is no recall.

The battery died in the intersection suddenly while i was dring waiting for a traffic light. It made me in danger. This is a one year old vehicle. I have driven 6 brand vehicles so far in my life, this is the first time the battery died. I think volkswagen should recall for this problem.

The sunroof is leaking in my 2018 cpo vw atlas sel. This is the 4th week since delivered.the vehicle is leaking water into the cabin, my visor lights are not working on the driver side, there is water leaking through the headline and a moldy odor is beginning to permeate the vehicle.it was noticed after 1 trip after being parked all night in steady rain fall.

Vehicle battery stopped working within less than an year, dealership service is hard to work unless the car is completely dead and will inform customers that the battery was undersized on the vehicle. It will suddenly die when auto start/stop function is engaged, it can happen while stopped at a red light.

Vehicle does not stay in eco mode. Digital display shuts down randomly (radio display)strut noise unidentified

Left fog lights sporadically blink on and off for no specific reason. This happens during normal driving conditions, and while stopped at red lights.

The random problems we are experiencing are electrical related issues. When unlocking the car with the fob the car sometimes does not adjust the seat based on the fob, nor does it recognize the satellite radio, the radio gets stuck on the am setting, etc.other times the car engine shuts off but everythiing else is on just like the auto engine shut off feature.something is wrong with this car.it drives fine and the issue is random but frequent.i don't know what else to say.i am an it professional and the only thing i can think of is that my atlas has some type of software/electrical bug.on sunday morning the radio was not working after i started the car.i had to shut off the car and radio several times in order for it to work.this happens regularly, very random.always when turning on the car.

Battery ramdomly loses charge to start the vehicle. We dorve from salt lake city to vegas. We filled up on gas with some of the electronics running and the car wouldn't start. Dash says battery was drained. Happened again when vacuuming the car after a wash. Doors were open and electronics were off, but it then wouldnt start again.

Car died in the middle lane of traffic and won't start. Tried jumping with our portable charge but that didn't work. Gives multiple errors from airbag to 12 volt battery to low beams.

2018 volkswagen atlas. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle being unresponsive. *ldconsumer states that vehicle has had several issues since purchasing it. On 05/07/18 , while driving 55 mph, vehicle became unresponsive. Vehicle was towed to dealership. Vehicle was repaired. On 02/21/19 the vehicle's remote start stopped working and the coolant light came on. Vehicle was taken to dealer and the cylinder head and catalyst were replaced. On 05/30/19 the a/c unit would not blow out cold air and vibrated when turned on. The a/c blower motor was replaced. On 07/02/19 a light came on the dash and a rattling sound came from vents. Debris was found in the vents and traces of metal were found in oil. The oil was changed and parts were replaced. On 12/2719 the coolant light came on. Metal shavings were found in the oil. Vehicle received a new engine. On 02/17/20 a noise is heard when driving vehicle. Manufacturer has been notified of failures. Manufacturer offered to pay remaining balance on vehicle, so that consumer could trade-in vehicle. Consumer declined offer. *dl

The contact owns a 2018 volkswagen atlas. While driving various speeds, the battery warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle seized. The vehicle was taken to three rivers volkswagen (3694 washington rd, mcmurray, pa 15317, (724) 941-6100) where it was diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The battery was replaced, but the failure recurred eleven months later. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear usb drive caused the failure because it drained the battery. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.

I have had this car two months and it has now been in service twice.as of today they have had it for two weeks.the autonomous break system is way too sensitive and the car stops going down steep inclines or going over pot holes while in motion.the car has stopped in the middle of driving at least 7 times.i take it to service, they say there is no record in the cars computer of the incident.the front sensors are always beeping.i pull up to a stop sign, the sensors go off. I do a u-turn and the sensors go off.some days way too excessively, some days not at all.it scares me to death and i slam on my brakes because i am afraid i am going to hit something.i take it to service, they say there is no record of it in the cars computer.front end collision alert, i was driving down the road and was the only one on the road and the front end collision alert went off. I of course slam on the brakes in the middle of the road with no traffic, thank god no one was behind me.i take it to service, they say there is no record in the cars computer of it.service has been able to recreate the issue with the front sensors, but says there is no fix.the customer care rep for vw stated today on the phone that they recognize there is an issue with the sensitivity of the autonomous breaking but has no fix for it so i will have to deal with it.i live in houston, i will die if i hit a pot hole and stop.it's unacceptable and a huge safety hazard.i am reading all over the internet about this issue with the autonomous braking problems.it should not be allowed to continue.someone is going to die.i was able to video the issue with the sensors and vw has the video and recognizes a problem but states that's just the way the car is going to work.states they see the issue there too, but there is no fix.

I have had issues with the battery dying on my atlas for the last several months.i have driven it, gone into a store for 5 minutes and coming back out and the battery is dead. Or the car won't start the next morning after sitting my heated garage overnight.in my instance the car has been stationary the entire time but i know others have had this happen while in motion. This has happened 7-8 times recently and its unacceptable for this to be happening on a car this new.i have not had the car not restart in an intersection yet like many others have had happen but regardless its still a significant safety concern and vw needs to address this issue.i have read many items that people have taken their cars into the dealer to get the battery replaced and the problem still occurs.vw needs to recall 2018 atlas's for this problem and find a permanent fix for this problem.it is clearly an issue that they know about and need to take action on it now. I can't have my family in vehicle that that i don't know when it will or will not start.

Start/stop system or other electrical "feature" drains the battery to the point the engine won't start. Worse than that, the start/stop system doesn't deactivate itself even when the battery is too low to restart the motor. We were just stranded in a parking lot in a blizzard thanks to the car not starting back up.

Vehicle, inside our garage, will not turn on. Battery is dead, receive error message that 12v battery is low, lights flash and sounds happen, but will not turn over. Our atlas is just over a year old. A couple weeks ago, various lights came on then went away and didn't return until today. Also waiting on recall for catalytic converter that was before christmas due to check engine light coming on over and over.been at least 3 weeks waiting for that part. Disappointed in an expensive new car having this many problems right from the start. Calling the dealer today about the battery issue. For the record, this is the car that is driven on a regular basis for my husband's commute to work and kept in the garage.

The battery has gone dead 3 times,, once at a stop light while driving and once after driving 45 minutes, turning car off for gas, then dead at gas station ... Just drove to dealership today and it happened again while in the waiting bay in the service department, jennings volkswagen had to jump car to move it ... Was sitting off for 5 minutes after driving for 1 hour

My atlas died in the drive thru while running (stationary but about to move when it died) without any warning.the vehicle has less than 25,000 miles and had just been serviced less than one month prior.when it died, the car dash was blinking different messages but one said, 'drive to charge 12v'.i couldn't turn the engine over; the windows would not go up; and i was stuck in the drive thru for almost an hour before someone was able to jump my car to get it to the dealer.dealer said they had changed 4-5 batteries out of the same type of car that week.that was three weeks ago.no eta on when a battery will be available.i went nearly 10 ten days without a car and now i have a loaner.no information on cause of problem or whether a new battery will fix the problem.neither the dealer nor vw have given me any information or guidance on whether the vehicle will be safe to drive after battery replacement'i repeatedly explained that my vehicle died while running 'thankfully not in an intersection or red light'but still no information on the issue.i also am not getting any information as to why it could take over a month to even get a battery.

Battery went dead without warning. Dealer has car does not know how long it will take to get new battery. Dealer says battery problem

Purchased vehicle in december 2017.in july, the check engine light came on.fast forward to november and i am still having issues with the vehicle, and it seems that anytime the dealership fixes one issue, another appears.after having my vehicle at the dealership 4 times between july 25th and august 7th, it was finally discovered that i had a bad catalytic converter.after the catalytic converter was finally replaced in september, the check engine light came on again and this time i was told it was a bad oxygen sensor.after that was finally replaced, another error light came on that was identified as something else, and i had to wait for a new part to come in.after waiting several weeks, that part came in, repairs were completed, and another issue came up.my car has now been at the dealership for 21 days straight (this time), and i still have not received an eta on when it should be fixed.problems have mostly been associated with check engine light and front assist (collision detection system) sensors, but now the issues have expanded to most of the car's internal computer system in general.vehicle was in a wreck in may 2018 when another driver pulled out in front of me.front assist errors are being attributed by dealer to the wreck, but the check engine and other computer errors, including issues with abs control module (latest problem) are not and are being covered under warranty

Engine warning light and red exclamation caution warning lights on vehicle come on from time to time without warning. These warning lights come on during normal city driving conditions. These lights usually go off on their own or after turning vehicle off and back on.

Electrical issue causes the transmission to fail. As you press on the gas this issue does not allow the car to move forward. Has stopped on me now twice in 3 months. First repair took 20 days. Was very dangerous and scary because it happened on freeway the first time and on a hill the 2nd so the car began to roll backwards.

This has happened 3 times now. When driving, all emergency notification lights come on without warning and the car applies emergency braking. The driver is unable to accelerate and must come to a stop immediately or the car does it for them. The only way to then drive again, is to park it, turn the car off, and turn it back on. When that is done, almost all warning lights disappear and the car behaves as though nothing ever happened. The only error that the vehicle shows is an error with the start/stop system and says that the engine is on due to system failure. If you manually turn off start/stop, then all warnings are gone. Usually, when the car is turned off and driven a second time after that, no warnings (not even start/stop) appear. This has happened at 65mph on cruise control, at 10mph in a parking lot, and at 50mph. The first time it happened, a stored code for multiple passive mini faults appeared, but dealer could not recreate problem and i was told to drive it and call if it happens again. 3 months later, it happened again with completely different variables in driving prior to it happening. When brought in to the dealer, the same code was thrown in addition to a code about low battery output. Vw warranty engineers determined it needed a software update. After software update was performed, the new code of the battery output level went away. 2 months later, the same thing happened again at a different rate of speed. No check engine light was ever on, nor is it presently on. There is no warning that this is going to happen. The driver has no choice but to stop the car immediately in its tracks and turn it off. The driver is unable to determine a safe place to pull the car over to until they have turned it off and back on and virtually all warning lights have disappeared.

Was driving down my driveway and the electronic brake all of a sudden malfunctioned and turned on, and locked up all movement. The system was screaming electronic brake malfunction, do not drive, brake is activated. I was able to eventually put it back up near my house in the parking portion of the driveway. This is not the first time that the brake has malfunctioned however it is the first time that it has done it while i was driving, normally i can turn off the car wait about 5 minutes or so and then it'll stop malfunctioning however this time the brakes locked up and the car would not move. I could not get the brake to turn off. Had the car towed to the dealership (still showing a malfunction after vehicle was off all day). At the dealer for several days, they said they could not replicate the incident and the car does not keep a log of malfunctions internally so there was nothing to be done.i have a long list of problems with sensors, camera systems, and other electronic failures going back through august 2018

I was sitting with my car parked in a school pick-up line, no-idle zone, so i had my vw atlas running on it's battery. The battery died out of the blue after a few minutes. There seems to be an ongoing battery issue with my vehicle as it has had a hard time turning over this past week. This car is only 1 year old and shouldn't be facing this issue. I'm glad i wasn't in an intersection when it happened, as i've read has happened to others. I'm taking it in to vw for inspection, but it sounds like i'm one of many who is running into the vw battery issue and i wanted to make it known.

Engine warning light as well as epc warning light came on during normal city driving. Power and pick up of the vehicle became greatly reduced making travel over 15-20 mph impossible. Upon arriving home and turning car off, vehicle was nearly impossible to restart. Car was towed from home to dealership were it was found that electrical mechanism in vehicles high powered fuel pump malfunctioned and quit working. High powered fuel pump had to be replaced.

Had the car for 18months and have started having issues with the battery failing for no reason - car gives a message that the voltage is low and will not start.happened after very short time of the engine being turned off a couple of times, no valid explanation from the dealer as to why suddenly started happening. Happened once on a highway, once at home. Now worried that we don't know when it will happen again.

Battery died after less than one year (bad cell)

I own a vw atlas which is 2 months old. Battery died all of a sudden 2 monthsback. Had to jump start the vehicle. Couple of days back battery was complete down again. I used the car everyday before battery went cold in my garage.

Battery died right after i bought car and it appears this is quite a frequent issue with this car

Our electrical systems seem to have weird mishaps. Sometimes our lights stay on even if we close all doors and lock the car our check engine light comes on and off often. Sometimes the quick starter/electric start won't work. This all happens randomly and the engine light will be on when we start the car or while we're driving.

The battery keeps dying.i believe it's because the start/stop system is too much for the battery.the battery dies if we stop the car and idle for more than 2-3 minutes, with the infotainment system running.

The vehicles battery is dying.

Epc light plus check engine light came on. Car would not start. Dealer replacing battery, but concerned it will happen again based on cases i've read in vw forums: https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t73111_ds837472. Vehicle was stationary, parked in a school parking lot.

Car was purchased new 2/15/2018. Has 41000 miles and dealer maintained. My wife was at an intersection with a 1 year old and 4 year old in the car when auto shutoff occurred. Vehicle would not restart in a busy intersection. My wife had to be pushed to the edge of the road with the kids in the car and be jump started. Dealer says it is all due to a bad battery. Upon research this is a frequent and hazardous issue. Consumer replaced the battery.

On monday 6/10/2019 at 18:10, i was driving west on california highway 91 in riverside california.i was on the phone with my wife, the car was on cruise control, going 65 mph.there were no cars in front of me, i was driving in the second lane from the right. My car approached an 18 wheeler truck and it was passing the truck.the truck was on the right lane, my car approached on the next lane to the left.the car was still on cruise control and i was still on the phone with my wife.as the car was passing the truck, the vw atlas executes an emergency brake as if something was in my way.the car gave no warnings before applying the brakes hard.

March 5, 2020. 2018 vw atlas, 2017 mid-year delivery. There have been multiple occasions of emergency braking being performed by the car without driving condition needing the safety intervention.there have been five occurrences to date with the vehicle:1. Driving i-75 in to atlanta --while driving next to an 18 wheeler (18-w) [tanker] , the car slammed on the brakes while at a speed around 75 until the car was behind the rear of the trailer.there was no condition for need this reaction (the 18-w and i maintained lane control.) 2. Some random months later, the car performed a emergency braking while on i-20 while driving between two 18-ws [ 2 tanker].the car speed were interstate speeds and no conditions that needed the intervention.3. While driving in traffic closed to i-20 on a four lane secondary road, the vehicle slammed on the brake due to traffic backup at a stop light.it cased my cargo to slide forward to all the seat backs.4.this was another braking action occurred with an 18w [flatbead].5.march 3, 2020, the latest was a similar emergency braking with no warning lights.the braking action was not as hard and released after clearing the rear trailer of the 18-w. Since the cars do not generate an error code the common diagnostic tools are not able to find a fault.the safety systems should be modified to generate incident code when emergency braking occurs since the conditions are performed in a robotic function (non-driver condition).i generally talk to the vw service tech about this finding every time i am in vw service area to see if the condition is present in other vehicles.

Automatic braking system is faulty. When i pull out of driveways or parking lots the sensors are activating and the maneuver braking is applied and the car comes to an abrubt stop in the middle of the road. Everytime this has occured there has not been an object or car present. This system is faulty and dangerous. I have 3 children in the back seat and this makes me very concerned for their safety when i drive this vehicle. Vw service is looking into the issue and has given me a loaner atlas that is doing the exact same thing. I have a video of the issue occuring.

Problems with fuel injector where the manufacturer advise to change the all injectors after 100k miles . Where they sending me to pay for this expenses. The acc automatic cruise controlalso failed where they charging $600 to reprogram the system for some reason stop working how can this happen with a new car.

The car stops on its own while driving, all lights on dash illuminate, and car starts again as if nothing happened. Twice going up the driveway and three times while on back roads. No one was in front of or behind us for two of the times. One of the times, it was during traffic so the speed was slow enough not to have an impact. One other time it stopped about half a car length away from the curb when parking the car. While on the highway, going 70, with the blinker on to get over to the center lane, the car jerked me back to the right..i was in the right lane, a car in front of me, a car behind me, no cars in the middle lane, and two in the far left lane coming up. Absolutely no reason for the car to think there was a car to the left of me. The two cars in my original lane and the two cars in the far left lane remained in those lanes. I have taken the car to two different dealerships, a total of three times and they could not recreate the problem, so they are unable to fix the issues. My case was escalated to the se regional case manager, who put the case in for review to buy back the vehicle and was notified today, 10/18/2019, that they are not going to buy it back but they will continue to service the vehicle under the warranty. How can they service the vehicle if they can't find anything wrong with the vehicle. I can't believe they expect to drive this unsafe vehicle until someone dies! i paid extra to buy this vehicle for the safety features, which is what is causing this to be unsafe. It would be unethical to sale the car, but too unsafe for me to drive and put my family at risk of getting in a vehicle accident and dying. Please have a recall issued to address the issues before someone dies and telling consumers to disable these functions is not the right answer either. I have had issues from the beginning, but thought it was hiccups. Date is approximate.

On many occasions, the automatic braking system and blind spot detection systems have engaged at inappropriate times. Most recently, the automatic braking system engaged when safely merging with proper signaling from the right lane, which was ending, to the next to the left lane when the only vehicle in the vicinity was fully in the left turn lane. There was enough space between our vehicle and the vehicle behind to avoid a rear end collision but the hard braking was unnecessary and could have caused damage or more serious injuries than those sustained by the driver and passenger caused by the seatbelt locking on the collarbone and chest because of the sudden application of brakes. Another recent incident was on the freeway when safely changing lanes with proper signaling from the far left lane to the center lane and the blind spot detection system prevented changing lanes when the closest to the right vehicle was in the far right lane, one lane further than attempting to change into. If this had occurred while changing lanes to avoid a collision with debris or another vehicle, it could have caused damage or injuries.

The driver side, front wheel suspension system has been replaced twice due loud vibration noises, rattling noises, and repeated steering issues. The steering wheel violently jerks to the right or left and pulls the car out of the desired direction of travel.the vw atlas is at the dealership service department for a third time since date of pirchase (feb 2018) for the same steering issues and noise issues. The 'auto-braking' system that's designed to prevent rear end collissions has malfunctioned on two separate occasions.both malfunctions were when pulling out of a parking lot with a downgraded slope toward the street.on both occasions, as i was pulling out of the parking lot to merge into moving traffic, the electronic braking system engaged as the car was moving down the sloped parking lot exit leaving the vw atlas frozen in place as street traffic was rapidly approaching.i had to put the vw atlas in 'park' and back in 'drive' in order to release the electronic break system.this auto-breaking feature has created to safety situations where my vw atlas was completely stopped while attempting to merge with moving traffic, nearly causing accidents in both situations.

I own a vw atlas which is 2 months old. Battery died all of a sudden 2 monthsback. Had to jump start the vehicle. Couple of days back battery was complete down again. I used the car everyday before battery went cold in my garage.

The coolant warning light went on 3 days ago. When i first start the engine in the morning or after hours of parking, the coolant warning light went on. After the engine temperature goes up, i have to turn the engine off and on again to have the coolant warning light disappeared. This is an one year old vehicle which has 10500 miles. I have driven 6 brands of vehicles in my life but this is the very first time to have a coolant problem. I checked that no coolant leaking and shortages.

Auto stop sensor my atlas just have 1000 miles and it has started with problems

The contact owns a 2018 volkswagen atlas. The contact stated while driving at low speeds downhill, the vehicle stalled. Additionally, the vehicle stalled randomly while near objects in the road when the collision avoidance feature engaged without warning. The contact called the local dealer where the collision avoidance feature was disabled remotely. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired.the manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.

Engine warning light as well as epc warning light came on during normal city driving. Power and pick up of the vehicle became greatly reduced making travel over 15-20 mph impossible. Unexplainable loss of coolant. My car was 4 times at dealership and they never find any leaks but i'm loosing coolant and sometimes it can smell it evaporate when i park my car.

Fuel distribution rail pressure pipe leaking fuel. Smelled fuel when walking past vehicle on 8 may 2019 when stationary and not running. Fuel was visible on top of engine below pipe.. Was returned by dealer on 17 may19 after they acknowledged leak and reset seals. On 9 jun 2019, smell of fuel was detected when starting vehicle. Fuel visible on top of engine below pressure pipe. Vehicle was stationary and had again been sitting over night.

Twice the engine shut off while waiting at a red light.had to put car in park and restart. Both times it was in the morning during rush hour on a city streetwith infant in the car, very scary and stressful!the car usually start/stops to save energy but i didn't realize it turns completely off if you're stopped at a light!

Battery dies with short idle. Waited less than 10 minutes for my husband and warning came on to drive the car to charge the battery. I was in a parking lot with air conditioning on. Engine had manually shut off so i went to restart and battery would not turn on. This has happened before.

Transmission/motor is making a whispping sound when you accelorate on the gas. Have reported multiple times and i am not the only one who has experienced this. It is a terrible sound. Car is less than 20,000 miles

2nd attempt at repairing oil leak occurring from engine bay located around oil filter housing on left side of engine. Was not properly torqued from factory on first occurrence housing could be turned with a wrench. The second occurrence took 2 month after oil change to show same symptoms. This occurs under all conditions and vehicle rarely sees dirt roads.

2018 atlas with under 17k and air bag error comes on. Also leaking coolant.

Sitting at a red light and when it turned green, my start/stopfunction would not turn my car back on. The dash had all sorts of lights flashing and my car would not start. Said the 12v battery was drained. Had to push my car out of the way and get someone to jump my car.

1/28/19 car starts fine, drive 15 min, run 3 errands, then can't start car. Electronic display has all warning icons flashing. Battery test 50% power.jumpstart car,epc and engine icons stay lit. Charge battery at home. Car runs fine for 2 days.then car won't start again, epc icon lit, run car 20 minutes, then try to drive car but cannot exceed 13 mph. Call for tow; truck never arrives ( 3+ hours). Attempt to start car, starts fine, no warnings lit; drive to dealer. Dealer says battery "defective", replaces under warranty. Car has 26600 miles and i have owned for 18 months. Dealer says epc not lit while they looked at the car so they cannot address. Ridiculous. Car fine for 2 days, then epc light back on. I have spent probably 40 hours or more at vw dealership waiting for various repairs over the last 18 months. A google search reveals many vw atlas have epc problems, and if you just google volkswagen and epc you can find hundreds of postings for this issue with almost every vw model. I will be taking the car back in but am not confident i will get a satisfactory repair based on all the other online complaints about this issue

First the engine light came on couple days called spokemaster mechanic stated shouldn't be problem as long as it's not blinking, bring in for check up. Engine light turn off . Carwouldn't start. Car was taken to dealer mechanic for about week. 3weeks later after getting car back. Engine turned off while in drive motion on my disable husband that has one leg. Thank god my two other adult children's were there. I'm afraid to take achance traveling with this car. I fear for my family's life and safety as well as mine.my atlas has been towed back to the dealership repairs and has been there for 3 weeks.

My vehicle battery died after refueling. And i had to call for roadside assistance for a jump. Vehicle infotainment system showed 2 messages: 1)12 volt battery low and recharge while driving2) error start/stop system

Connecting rod bearing failure. New vehicle, 17 days since delivery, 704 miles at time of incident driving vehicle at 30mph on surface street epc light illuminated on dash. This was accompanied by a metal knocking sound that was in time with engine speed. Towed to dealer. Sound was confirmed to be rod knock. Oil pan was removed for inspection. Metal found throughout the pan. New long block ordered. Block replaced and during testing vacuum pump failed due to contamination. Removed and replaced pump.

The battery died in the intersection suddenly while i was dring waiting for a traffic light. It made me in danger. This is a one year old vehicle. I have driven 6 brand vehicles so far in my life, this is the first time the battery died. I think volkswagen should recall for this problem.

The contact owns a 2018 volkswagen atlas. While driving 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that there was an abnormal sweet and musty odor emerging from the vehicle. The contact and occupants sustainedheadaches and nausea due to the odor. Medical attention was not received. The vehicle was towed to winn volkswagen (39695 balentine dr, newark, ca 94560, (510) 344-2013) where it was diagnosed that there was a coolant leak and an engine replacement was needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 190150480. No further assistance was provided. The contact requested a buyback of the vehcile. The failure mileage was 7,300.

The contact owns a 2018 volkswagen atlas. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled and all the warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle did not restart. The vehicle was towed to j bertolet volkswagen (555 rte 61, orwigsburg, pa 17961) where it had been kept since august 14, 2019. The dealer diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new engine. The contact also mentioned that the vehicle stalled one other time on february 1, 2019 while driving 25 mph. The vehicle was taken to teddy volkswagen (3743 boston rd, bronx, ny 10466) where they kept the vehicle for three months and replaced the catalytic converter. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and the contact was offered half off the engine replacement price (without labor). The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

3 weeks after we bought a pre-owned atlas from a vw dealer, the battery died without any warning. We checked-we did not leave anything on in the car. We tried to jump start it for an hour with no luck, so i googled it. The atlas has had many issues with its battery and many people have been stranded because of this. The battery they put in the vehicle is not powerful for this suv, especially with the auto-start/stop feature, which permanently drains the cells of the battery so it can't be jumped. The only solution is to replace the entire battery with a new, better one. We called vw corp but they would not do a thing! issue is, vw knows about this issue and has 'acknowledged' it by extending the initial battery warranty to 3 years from when it was first installed. So you have to be lucky enough to have the battery die within the first 3 years of owning the car or else you are left to pay for something that is defective and they know about.we were 3 months outside of their extended warranty, but only had the car 3 weeks!this is a safety issue: your battery could suddenly die when you're at the light of a busy intersection, in the dark, your kids in the car, etc. And you can't even turn your hazard lights on to warn other cars that your car is dead. Or you could get stranded in the mountains with no cell reception, or out in the middle of nowhere in a storm or blizzard. What's worse is vw uses the auto-start/stop as a selling feature and they do not warn you or disclose this battery issue even though they know about it! they should honestly recall all original atlas batteries and pay to have them replaced with better ones that can hold up to the suv and the auto-start/stop feature, which you can't turn off permanently, by the way. You'd have to turn it off manually every single time you drive it. It is unacceptable that they know about this and do nothing.

Vehicle hesitates excessively under acceleration at times, in both forward and reverse gears.won't back up a mild grade (like a driveway) without excessive acceleration, causing the vehicle to lurch.won't accelerate after slowing behind a turning vehicle without excessive acceleration, causing the vehicle to lurch.

Battery will not turn on, car is only 12 months old, there were no issues for the reasoning for the battery to not work.

After stopping at a red light at the traffic the car would not restart, the battery of engine died.

I have taken my 18 atlas sel premium in at least 4 times to have the coolant checki have had the low coolant warning come on 3 times stating there is low coolant. There is a strong burning coolant smell radiating from my vehicle on many occasions. When taken to the dealer they have done overnight pressure tests and cannot find the leak. My car is now out of warranty and i fear now they will find the issue and make me responsible.

I was stopped at a red light. When the light turned green the engine turned off and i had to manually turned the car on to proceed.same thing happened when i was waiting to open my garage.the car turned itself off, i had to turn it back on manually.

Excessive oil consumption. Used 1and 1/2quarts of oil at 3250 miles(which was added by the dealer service dept. Today 1/2/18)was boughtas a new vehicle 9/17 with only 12 miles on odometer.(12/25/17) first the check engine light lit, they said it was the gas cap.one week later the check oil level alarm lit . They checked itsaid no external leaks, they added the 1 1/2 quart oil , said to keep an eye on the level. I am scared to take this car on any trips with this car. Also the coolant level was at the minimum level, the service open the cap and the level did rise, but why is that?

Battery has been dying and was dead this morning. 2 year old car in san diego temperate weather. 18k miles. From forums, it seems this car has faulty stock batteries that cannot sustain the start/stop strain on the batteries. Having to take to dealership for replacement. Uncertain they will properly cover it.

While driving down a canyon in heavy snow, the grill shutters iced shut. Once down, we drove about 20mins across town, then started a long climb up a freeway, about 20mins of constant uphill. On reaching the top i noticed that the engine oil temp, which is normally around 200deg, had reached 230deg, as the oil cooler is behind the grill shutters, and wasn't getting any air flow. There was no warning from the car that the shutters were stuck shut, or that the oil was getting hot.

2018 atlas i bought less than a year ago i was on the freeway when the car completely stalled i pulled over to try and restart the car but the car never restarted it was towed to vw thousand oaks to find out that the engine went out i wasnā€™t under warranty because the warranty was up by miles i reached out to vw corporate to see if they were willing to fix the car because the car wasnā€™t that many miles over and the engine went out in three years the corporate did not agree to help with the repairs the engine failure happened at 77,000 milesā€¦.

My vw atlas sel 2018 is shutting off while i'm driving. So far this has happened 3 times. Once while i was in reverse at slow speed, second time while i was in traffic and the most recent while i was driving in my neighborhood. It is very scary because i have to put in park, press the brake pedal and start the car again, while in the highway. The screen displays an error in the start-stop, and also en engine error that says: engine on due to system error and one time the check engine light turned on. The unit has spent weeks in the vw dealership and still they can't find what is wrong with it, they return the car and it happens again. I do not feel safe driving this car, i have a son and i need a car i feel safe driving.

Car randomly puts transmission into emergency mode

The contact owns a 2018 volkswagen atlas. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced several failures ever since it was purchased brand new. The contact stated that the automatic cruise control malfunctioned and caused the driver to slam on the brake pedal to avoid a rear collision. The vehicle was taken to gunther volkswagen of coconut creek (4300 fl-7, coconut creek, fl 33073, (954) 590-3750), but they refused to diagnose the vehicle even though the contact had an appointment. Several days later, while driving 35 mph, the vehicle shut off. The contact was able to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but it shut off again. After a few hours of waiting, the vehicle was able to fully restart and was driven back to the dealer. Once at the dealer, the contact discovered that his customer profile had been deleted from their system. The contact had his information re-entered into the system. The dealer kept the vehicle for two days and they performed a software update. Afterwards, the failures recurred even more frequently, including multiple times each day. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for a third time where it was kept for three days, but they could not duplicate the failures. The dealer insisted that the vehicle was functioning normally even though the contact captured many of the failures on video. The manufacturer was contacted, but they refused to buy back the vehicle based on the dealer's information. The manufacturer also refused to look at any of the videos and advised the contact to schedule an appointment with another dealer. The failure mileage was 10.

The contact owns a 2018 volkswagen atlas. The contact stated that the check coolant indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to legend volkswagen (side a, 158 merrick rd, amityville, ny 11701) where they replaced the radiator and added coolant. The following day, the contact smelled coolant outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer on five different occasions regarding the coolant. The contact stated that the coolant odor became worse over time and could be smelled inside the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 3,672.

There is a strong gas smell inside and outside my vehicle while driving and stationary.vw replaced the upper and lower fuel rails and the high pressure fuel pump on the first service visit.i could still smell the gas outside the vehicle, not inside, when i left the service bay.i returned it and they said they couldn't recreate the gas smell so they cleaned the vents and put a strong potpourri in the vents.?outside gas smell persisted in the front and the rear of the car that was very strong so i took it for a 3rd time.a week later vw corporate let lindsay vw service know to remove the intake and check the injectors.all seals were severely damaged and they replaced them. I picked it up a few days ago and now the gas smell is so bad inside (again)and outside the vehicle.while driving it is so strong that i opened the window to help air it out until i got home, but the gas smell outside made it even worse.the car is unsafe.there have been countless recalls, it's wept rain water several inches deep into the front seat foot wells, they didn't replace the carpet when they did the repair and i worry about mold.but this gas situation has been going on since october and it's very concerning.i don't feel safe in this car and i want vw to take it back.

Needs new catalytic converter. Needs excessive gas. Told to just keep driving until back ordered catalytic converter comes in. I don't feel like it's safe to drive especially with my children. Check engine light came on. Researching the problem and vw definitely has a problem and has not voluntarily recalled the vehicle.

Driving on highway, engine and brakes stop working 2 times. Got the car in the vw shop , they said it was a loose fuse connector. They "fix it" and 2 days later we have the same problem. Car will be back on shop. Called vw each time, opened a case with them to.

The passenger side's headlight suddenly shattered while i was driving in the city, on a paved road. It's important to note that there were no other vehicle around or ahead of me when the incident happened.

Left fog lights sporadically blink on and off for no specific reason. This happens during normal driving conditions, and while stopped at red lights.

My vehicle battery died after refueling. And i had to call for roadside assistance for a jump. Vehicle infotainment system showed 2 messages: 1)12 volt battery low and recharge while driving2) error start/stop system

High pressure fuel pump failure at 76,000 miles. Also replaced sensor for front assist error less than 1 year ago and it's now giving warning light again. Vw saying i have to pay $450 to recalibrate.

The contact owns a 2018 volkswagen atlas. While driving various speeds and approaching a minor incline, the brake sensor beeped and the automatic brake light illuminated. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to mckenna volkswagen cerritos (18303 studebaker rd, cerritos, ca 90703, 855-995-7761) where the technician, after consulting with the manufacturer in germany, advised the contact to feel free to turn off the feature. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was operating as designed. The failure was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100.

Volkswagen dealer service department has informed me that they cannot release my vehicle without fixing the 69x1 seat-belt recall issue. They state that volkswagen has no eta on the fix, effectively leaving me without my vehicle for some unknown amount of time.

On a down hill grade the fuel tank stops delivering fuel when the tank is at a 25% level

The engine overheated, stalled out, unable to restart and smelled like gasoline and volkswagen dealer says need new engine.

The contact owns a 2018 volkswagen atlas. The contact smelled fuel coming from the vehicle. While refueling the vehicle, the contact saw fuel leaking underneath from the fuel tank. The contact took the vehicle to village volkswagen of chattanooga (6001 international dr, chattanooga, tn 37421, (423) 855-4981) and was informed that he caused the damage; therefore, the dealer refused to repair the vehicle. There was a valid warranty in effect since there was currently only 14,000 miles on the vehicle. In 2018, there was an unknown recall for the fuel tank leaking even though the contact's vehicle was not included in the recall. The contact spoke with the manufacturer and they agreed with the dealer. The failure mileage was 14,000.

When driven on road, the car suddenly stopped without any sign. The car was towed to the dealer. I was told that the fuel pump wiring was chewed by rodents, so the car suddenly doesn't have any fuel at all. This incident is very life-risking. The fuel pump wiring is under the rearseat. I am not sure whether it is the defective design of the car which makes the fuel pump wiring without any protection is easy to be chewed by animals. Moreover, i keep the broken wiring which does not look like chewed ones.

Problems with fuel injector where the manufacturer advise to change the all injectors after 100k miles . Where they sending me to pay for this expenses. The acc automatic cruise controlalso failed where they charging $600 to reprogram the system for some reason stop working how can this happen with a new car.

High pressure fuel pump failure at 76,000 miles. Also replaced sensor for front assist error less than 1 year ago and it's now giving warning light again. Vw saying i have to pay $450 to recalibrate.

Check engine light came on before 3,000 miles. Cylinder 2 misfire. Dealership fixed it on the 3rd try after getting vw involved. It was a faulty gas tank, leaking fuel into the lines. They replaced the tank and the charcoal canister. Lane assist feature severely malfunctions since day 1 of owning this car. Nearly every time i drive it, the vehicle steers itself into medians, into curves or intersections, into oncoming traffic, always while i'm actively driving straight. I contacted vw; they recommended having the system inspected. Dealership could find no problems with it, stating it was just a characteristic of the car. I will not just turn that feature off when i'm paying for it. I asked vw to buy the vehicle back, as it has increasingly become more dangerous for myself and my children. They denied my request. I have contacted the better business bureau in hopes of getting a more sensible outcome, but vw has only offered to settle my concerns for $2,500, which is not acceptable. This is an accident waiting to happen.

Engine turns off while running. Displaysays to turn on engine manually. The problem is that if you are in a highway you have to stop an push the brake and then the start button. It happened in acity street. This is the fifth time it goes to the dealer to solve this problem.

My 2018 atlas lane assist pulls the vehicle into another lane without warning or intention forcing me to keep a firm grip on the vehicle at all times. This usually happen on a busy highway but it also happens on secondary roads as well.it is scary for me as well as any other passengers in the vehicle. I have complained to vwofa aa well as the local dealer where i purchased the vehicle. They cannot find anything wrong. It is something that happens randomly.they did a short test drive and found nothing but it keeps happening. For that reason i rarely use the vehicle. It is a safety hazard.

The vehicle failed to stop on a city street after full application of brakes causing collision and damage to front bumper . I have not received any notification from walks wagon thatceramic coating on the brakes needs to be fixed and was not aware of any brake issues prior to the collision .the vehicle has approximately 4100 miles and currently at the collision centre .

Vehicle does not stay in eco mode. Digital display shuts down randomly (radio display)strut noise unidentified

At around 60 to 70 mph, the vehicle has a slight vibration which shakes the car and the steering wheel.along with vibration there is a slight fluttering noise at the same time.the car has been at the dealership for repairs three different times but the dealership claims this is just highway noise.i told the dealership that this vibration and noise is on different kinds of highway surface.i brought the new on november 27, 2017 and drove it home from cincinnati oh to my home in newark oh about 150 miles.i noticed the vibration and noise on the trip home from the dealership and notified the dealership that there was a problem with this new car.this car 18 miles on the odometer when i took delivery on november 27, 2017.i had moved to michigan in june 2018 had taken to williams volkswagen to repair this problem.williams volkswagen had twice tried to repair the vehicle and each time claimed it was repaired satisfactory.the first tije i took it to williams volkswagen service claimed i had hit a pot hole.i told him it was that way when i purchase the car.they balance all wheels and claimed it was repaired.i took back again and they did a "forced" balance and replace two front tires and said it was repaired.i contacted williams volkswagen service manager and he admitted he also heard and seen the vibration in the car but claimed it was due to road conditions, not the car.i am concern there could be a safety problem with this car maybe with the steering and or wheels.

Error "transmission in emergency mode" when cold starting.

Error message: 'transmission in emergency mode. You can continue driving'. Car runs fine. If you stop the car. Place it in park. Turn it off. And restart, the message may go away. Usually it comes on when the car is started, and shifted into rear or drive. Feels like a false positive. Perhaps a small issue with the shifter. Transmission changes gears without problems. Took car into galpin ford in north hills, ca under warranty. They claimed to fix the problem. Problem returned shortly thereafter.

The vehicle was purchased 10/31/18 and on 11/4/18 we arrived at a relative's home in westchester. This area has no sidewalks or parking lane. We pulled onto the shoulder of the street to park.the street is a slight hill and the shoulder was very uneven. The front of the car was uphill. My husband had cut the wheels to th e road when pulling in.once in park and the car off, he exited and walked behind the car to come round and help me get out on the rough shoulder. Before he made it to the front passenger door, the car started rolling backwards downhill into the street. I instictively went for the shift.the shift was already in the park position but the car was moving! because it was not a very steep hill, the elevation change at the transition from the dirt shoulder to the asphalt road stopped the car when the rear passenger wheel met the asphalt edge. This road is narrow and winding.we were fortunate noone was coming round the bend.the car came to a stop 30-40% into the car lane with no driver behind the wheel.in its simplest state it appears that the transmission park gear did not engage, yet it was definitely in the park position. This car does not have a manuel parking brake. To be honest, the hill would not have seemed to warrant the need for a parking brake if the parking gear were engaging properly.we have just contacted the dealer who claimed ignorance of any such problems ever existing.he suggested we make a service appointment & have the auto checked out.i suspect so they can formally tell us it is our imagination. After reading the complaints on file, i am sorry we did not look here before we purchased the vehicle.it doesn't seem that vw or any other car manufacturer seems anxious to correct design flaws until there are sufficient deaths.

The engine overheated, stalled out, unable to restart and smelled like gasoline and volkswagen dealer says need new engine.

Takata, oil was low upon purchase, had to replace oil within the first 100 miles and second time at 5,000 miles along with the coolant! coolant was completely gone at 5000 miles. Air vents are horrible-smell of oil/coolant seeping into the vents when the vehicle is on. Outdoor smells come into the car along with exhaust from other cars. Shifter jumps and is stiff while going out of park to neutral, from park to drive etc. Very toxic this vehicle is, not safe when idling...when in neutral the vehicle as i would be in a drive thru perse and then brake to go from neutral to drive, the trans will "jump" grind into gear!

Takata recall

The 2nd row driver's side seatbelt buckle on my 2018 vw atlas became deformed and broken. I took the vehicle to the dealership because a recall was made on these buckles for becoming unusable and unsafe due to child restraint interference breaking them. Volkswagen refused to fix the recalled buckle, citing it must have been an outside influence, however only child restraints have been used in seating positions, nothing has been done in the vehicle otherwise to substantiate these claims. We are the only owners of the vehicle. Because of the weakness already identified in the buckle housing, i feel this is not out of the realm of possibilities for this buckle. Volkswagen marked the vehicle as having recall work completed on this vehicle, however it has not been completed.

While my family and i were driving in our week old 2018 atlas we stopped at ared light and my wife who was securely seated in the passenger seat with the seatbelt on all of a sudden hit the dashboard.we pulled over amediately and upon further investigation we found out that the seat belt became unstitched from itself by the floor anchor.

In the last 6 months i have purchased two 2018 volkswagen atlas se suv's both vehicle had a faulty seat belt buckles in the rear seat section. Under pressure of car seat installation and/or normal use these buckles have been deemed faulty by a volkswagen dealership and i was advised to not use the buckle until a replacement was ordered. The easiest way to visually see the defect is to look at the buckle and if the red depress button raises above the exterior plastic it is considered faulty and should be reported to the dealership. I have attached one normal photo and a faulty photo.

Volkswagen dealer service department has informed me that they cannot release my vehicle without fixing the 69x1 seat-belt recall issue. They state that volkswagen has no eta on the fix, effectively leaving me without my vehicle for some unknown amount of time.

My wife and i have a 2018 atlas.we have two children, and their car seats are placed on the second row seats.we have been noticing that the latch for the seat belt buckles securing their car seats were coming undone.it would latch down and we would pull it to confirm it's securely latched.then we would be driving it normal but later upon removing our children from their seats, would realized that the seat belts became undone.i did research and found vw atlas 2018 model did have that safety issue and issued a recall for the affected vehiclesi typed the vin number into the nthsa and the vw website and could not find a recall for our vehicle.we never got a recall notice either.this is a major safety issue for our children, which needs to be remedied asap.

The 2nd row does not lock easily. Upon sudden brake, the seat came loose and slammed into the back of the front seat. Nobody was sitting there at the time but if my child was in a child seat, she would have been injured very easily.

My 6-year-old son was in the middle left seat, i pulled the car out of garage and drove up to the intersection next to my home and applied gentle break. His seat came all the way in the front and his nose hit the driver seat. This is the third time it has happened that seat was not properly locked. After it happened second time, we have been careful to check the seat before we start driving. We heard the click sound indicating that the seat was properly locked. It's been a terrifying experience for the young one. I'm also attaching the picture of his bruised nose.

I have a 2018 volkswagen atlas that i purchased last 6/15/2017. Last january i took my vehicle to the dealership ( san tan vw) in gilbert to do the manufacturer re-call repair.the dealer repaired 1 of the 2 recall, but left the other one un-repaired because the part was not available. I contacted the dealership several times for the eta of the parts but no definitive answer, i also contacted vw america about the situation and same answer.( no definitive eta ). The remaining re-call involves a passenger seat which the handle is broken, due to the fact that its broken, a metal handle was exposed . This could lead to a safety hazard (i.e. Finger being caught while adjusting the chair).i contacted the dealership to leave my vehicle in their facility while waiting for the parts and provide me with a rental, but i was denied.i feel like this case should be handled seriously as it involves safety, but vw and the dealership just keep saying to wait for the part and there is no eta for it. Vw atlas is presently beingmanufactured here in the usa ( tennessee) , i also suggest to them that since its still being sold and manufacture, they can always take the part from the plant. But they refuse to do it and told me that its coming from germany (their vendor).

We have a front facing childseat installed in the 2nd row passenger captain seat and a rear facing infant child seat in the passenger side third row.this configuration is necessary because the infant seat has a bracing bar that is difficult to raise and lower prohibiting the chair from angling forward for climbing in and out of the third row. However, we have learned on 2 separate occasions, within the first moments of driving/accelerating, that the 2nd row car seat may spring forward forceably, smashing the face and body of our restrained4 yr old child into the back of the front passenger seat.the seat is too heavy and locks in the forward position, making it impossible to push back, trapping the child until an adult is able to exit the vehicle and pull the seat back from the outside.the seat initially appears to be locked in the correct place, or is at least stable enough for the child to climb into her seat, buckle in, and the trip to begin.at some point thereafter the seat propels forward. We are unclear whether the latch fails or is not sufficiently engaged.the incidents have been extremely scary, and has resulted in a bloody lip, and abrasions and contusions to our child's face.in these situations, until we are able to safelyrespond, we are only able to see our child's terrified eyes and hear her crying. We are extremely concerned about the potential for other head and neck injuries as the seat rockets forward extremely fast and with significant force. We are unsure what would happen in the event we switched her spot with an infant seat instead.

The contact owns a 2018 volkswagen atlas. While driving various speeds and depressing the brake pedal, the middle row seats violently shifted forward while occupied. The contact also mentioned that the failure occurred while the seats were not occupied. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was provided a case number. The failure mileage was 11,000.

I feel as if the 2nd row lever system is a malfunction. It does not provide safety for the 2nd row of passengers to not be crushed or be smashed into the back of the front row seats if the lever is pulled while the vehicle is in motion. This is our only vehicle and our family vehicle. It can happily be available upon request. The safety of any child passenger is at risk if they are in the 2nd row and the lever to fold the seats down or back to gain access to the 3rd row is accidentally pulled while the vehicle is in motion. The problem has not been confirmed or reproduced at a service center. It can easily be reproduced but for the safety of my small children, without kids in the 2nd row. This is an internal (inside the vehicle) safety failure or malfunction. It has not been inspected by any official at this time. There isn't anything that locks the seat rail in place while the vehicle is in motion.this is an internal vehicle issue that does not give any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms to warn of the lever being pulled or activated. It has recently come to my attention that our vw atlas is lacking in any safety feature that prevents the 2nd row from coming unlatched from the rails, when the row lever is released. This does cause a significant safety issue as most children don't know that they cannot and should not reach or use this lever while the vehicle is in motion, thus causing significant, if not life threatening injury to the children riding in the 2nd row. I myself have 2 children under 2. I know as they get older or as we watch their cousins more often, we will be utilizing the 3rd row more. I do not want to have to worry that my nieces or nephews have pulled the lever causing the seat to catapult my children's necks into the backs of the front row seats.i want to stress how important it is to fix it. My daughter is due to be front-facing in the next couple of months in her car seat.

We purchased our vw atlas on august 24, 2018. Since then, we have experienced two occasions where the second row seat has hinged forward while occupied by our seven year old daughter in her car seat with the car was in motion. In both cases it has been the second row seat on the right. In both instances, our daughter was thrown forward into the back of the passenger's seat with significant force when the vehicle was moving down hill at a slow speed toward a stop sign. Had the vehicle been moving faster and come to an abrupt stop it seems likely that severe injury and possible death could have occurred instantly to her. We feel that the pop up indicator located on the top of the seat is an inadequate means to inform the driver that the seat is not properly secured to the floor. We missed this very important indicator on two occasions now. When we purchased the car and went through all notifications on the car with the salesperson, this was not brought to our attention. At minimum, this very technical vehicle should alert the driver before driving (similar to the seatbelt notification) with both an oral and visual alert that the seat is not properly secured to prevent this from happening to other owners or users of the vehicle. It has been a terrifying experience for our daughter who is trapped against the passenger seat until the driver can stop the car and move the seat back. She no longer wants to sit in that seat. This certainly seems like a possibly life-threatening issue to validate a safety recall. We hope that action is taken to keep all passengers safe.

After owning an atlas for about 2 weeks, i picked up my 2 year old and put him in his forward-facing car seat in the 2nd row. As i started to slow down as we approached a red light (normal stop - not a hard brake by any means), the seat that my 2 year old was sitting in slammed forward into the back of the front passenger seat. With my child screaming and crying, i quickly put the vehicle into park and turned around to push his seat back into the normal position. My child had a minor abrasion on his forehead but fortunately, the head protection on either side of his head took the brunt of the impact. The captains chair must have not been locked into place. After investigating further, i found that i really have to make an effort to get these seats to lock into place. Simply pushing these seats into place will not lock them (i kind of have to slam them back to get them to lock). In my opinion, these seats should lock into place much easier. I could easily see many children sustaining injuries (or worse) in this vehicle due to this flaw.

The brake booster light appeared, then the brake pedal became spongy, pulsed and the vehicle slowed down. Additionally, this happened on highways with light traffic with 4-5 car lengths within the same lanes moving 40 mph. The vehicle was in the service shop for nearly a month. The manufacturer sent technicians/engineers to troubleshoot and help resolve the issue. The vehicle was not going on a road that had an incline or decline. The weather was dry, cloudy, with no precipitation of any kind.

I have a 2018 volkswagen atlas sel.. The breaks keep going out randomly and an alarm goes off that the break booster is faulty... It makes a horrible clicking noise like the breaks are trying to work but there is nothing for like 10-35 seconds. It has happened more times than i can count... I have taken it in to the local dealership (hallmark volkswagen- cools springs, tn)and they told me to drive safe vw was working on a recall!? well i have almost hit a car and blown through a stop sign because my car won't stop' looking for more help bc the local dealer is useless. I do not feel safe in my car, nor do i feel safe driving my children in it.

Transmission/motor is making a whispping sound when you accelorate on the gas. Have reported multiple times and i am not the only one who has experienced this. It is a terrible sound. Car is less than 20,000 miles

I?m contacting you with an issue that needs immediate attention. There is a serious defect with the vw atlas we leased 2 months ago. The automatic braking system deploys at unexpected and inappropriate times producing a life threatening situation.the automatic braking system has activated, dangerously and inappropriately, several times, usually when pulling out of a driveway and attempting to enter a lane. Although there is no obstruction or risk of collision, the car senses the insignificant change in slope from driveway to road and slams on the brakes causing the driver to lose all control.the car is then stalled in the middle of oncoming traffic. Recently, my wife and two children pulled out of the driveway of our local supermarket and made a left turn. The automatic breaking system was activated and she was left stalled in the middle of oncoming traffic. Another driver barely avoided colliding into our rear side door where our 3 year old son?s car seat is located. We have taken this issue to our local dealership, and they checked the system, and told us ?it is performing as the manufacture intended it to?. This is a serious design issue and its only a matter of time before it results in a major accident and i can only pray that my young children arena?t maimed or killed.the vw service people have shown us a complicated way to turn off the automatic braking system in the car, however this needs to be done every time you start the car.i feel its inevitable that a busy mother doing chores with two toddlers will forget to turn off the system at some point.this matter needs to be resolved before disability or loss of life occurs. There needs to be a way to fix the system or permanently disable it. We asked vw to permanently disable the system but they declined.we look forward to your prompt replythank you. As i'm driving and tap my breaks, my steering wheel shakes. I took it in for repair and the dealer tells me my front rotors arewarped. I've only driven 20,000 miles and i've got to replace the rotors? they tell me i've got to pay and it's not under warranty, i call the manufacturer and they refuse to help me. Its a low mileage suv with rotor issues, that tells me vw uses low quality products and won't stand by their product.

Notified on 06/15/18 that my vehicles brake calipers were manufactured with insufficient chrome coating which could lead to the formation of gas bubbles and create a soft brake possibly resulting in a crash. There was a stop sale associated with my vin on 05/25/18 but i was not informed until 06/15/18. On 06/15/18 i was told to stop driving the vehicle and have it towed to the dealership immediately. There is still no eta on when parts will be available or when my vehicle will be returned to me.

I've had scary problems with brake assist and lane assist.with lane assist the vehicle has made sudden violent turns to stay in a lane.sometimes if there's a gap in the road lines (such as a turn lane) lane assist can be unpredictable.adaptive cruise control works fine but i've had several instances when traffic ahead stopped abruptly where it wouldn't have stopped in time to avoid a collision.

The auto braking and warning sensors go off when you are driving from an inclined driveway to a roadway. This has happened to us multiple times, the most recent was on 7-2-2018, and it brings the vehicle to a complete stop. This is supposed to be a safety feature that was an extra cost, but this is going to cause a crash if not rectified. I have taken the vehicle in for this issue, and multiple other issues and all i get back is ' system is performing as designed.'if the system is performing as designed, the system needs to be changed. This is without a doubt a safety issue in itself. There are multiple other owners on message boards that are having the same issues and having the same answers from the dealerships. On one of the message boards, there is actually a video of the vehicle coming to a complete stop driving from a bank parking lot to a main road.

The autonomous breaking system and pediatrian warning sensors are malfunctioning making my car unsafe to drive. Since it's purchase in january 2018, the brakes have locked up at least 10 times under normal driving conditions.i can re-create the problem when i am moving slowly on an uneven road surface. In addition, as i slow down to approach a stop sign or a red light, the alarms go off suggesting that there is something in the roadway at least half of the time. I have been told by my local vw service station that there are no errors being recorded by the car's system that can be corrected and at this time all atlas cars that they have tested on the lot are having doing the same thing.they were able to recreate the auto-braking on a hill on their lot, but have no way to stop it from happening. On saturday, 8/18/2019 while i was slowly pulling out of a local shopping center, making a left hand turn down an incline the car brakes locked up after i entered the active roadway- as a result i was nearly t-boned by a car that had just make a right hand turn onto the same roadway.by the grace of god, that driver was moving slow enought to stop.i immediately called vw car net, i was connected to my dealer, and they took the car in for inspection.as i mentioned above, after 5 days they were not able to resolve the problem.i have initiated a complaint with vw of america and am writing to tell you that i do not feel safe driving a car that will stop me in the middle of a road way.i do not want my family to be the victims of a preventable accident and want this problem fixed before there is a catastrophe for me or another atlas owner.please me know have other information i can give you so that you can properly investigate this problem.

2018 volkswagen atlas sel has a safety system called maneuver braking. The function of the braking is 'maneuver braking protects the driver from a collision. It prevents unpleasant damage to the bumper, and to any objects near the vehicle,' says developer lynn brennecke. I was exiting a parking lot making a left hand turn across 4 lanes of traffic. It was nighttime, my headlights were on, clear weather, around 70 degrees. The area was a residential/industrial mix.the parking lot exit had a slight slope. When the trafficwas clear i accelerated to enter the travel lanes and the atlas activated the "maneuver braking" therefore bringing the car to a complete stop and the engine turned off.i was well into the second travel lane when this occurred. There were no obstacles such as other vehicles, traffic cones, animals, branches etc. This could have been a deadly, what if the break in traffic was not large enough for the vehicle to stop completely and restart before traffic arrived. I have no idea when the atlas will suddenly decide it is time for a "maneuver braking" episode. This is a huge safety issue.

When descending an incline at slow speed to turn onto a roadway the sensor perceives the road as an obstacle which causes the car to auto-stop partially in the road. I then have to disengage the emergency brake and begin again. This is totally unsafe. It has happened 10 times when leaving my own driveway.

2018 atlas sel, equipped with autonomous breaking to "prevent" collisions.when vehicles travel down an incline like a driveway, the emergency breaking feature will unexpectedly engaged, causing the vehicle to come to a complete and sudden stop.when this occurs, i have no control over the continued movement of the vehicle. I am required to change gears and/or restart the vehicle in order to move the vehicle again.this poses a extreme safety issueas the vehicle will shut down when you are attempting to pull out of a private drive and on to a active roadway, increasing the risk of a side on vehicle collision.issue was reported to vw service department.service manager was able to duplicate the issue.service manager also tested another vw atlas on the sale lot with the same feature.strive manager reported that the same issue occurred with the other atlas as well.service department was unable to correct the issue, reporting the vehicle is "operating as designed."issue was reported to volkswagen.after a three week period, volkswagen reported that they were declining to take further action on the issue, stating the vehicle was 'operating as designed."this issue poses a major safety issue no only to the driver and occupants of the vehicle, but to other motorists on the road.volkswagen has been given notice of the issue and refuses to acknowledge of take action.

I came to a full stop as i was about to exit a driveway.since there were no vehicles approaching from either direction and there were no obstacles in front of me, i stated to pull out of the driveway when the autonomous emergency braking system suddenly and abruptly stopped my vehicle with no justification. This type of system failure can result in injury.

When exiting a driveway into traffic, if there is a decline or hill, the automatic breaking causes the car to stall in the middle of the road. This has happened several times now in 2 different places. The sensors start beeping and the car will shut down where you have no control. You have to put the car back in gear and restart the engine. This is very dangerous. I let the service department at vw in devon know and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it after running diagnostics.

2/20/2019 at 16:19 pst - i was driving on a cloudy afternoon, approaching a railroad crossing, about 100 ft away. My atlas' radar was tripped by something and the car slammed the brakes to avoid a crash. Except there was nothing on the road.i am glad there were no cars around me otherwise i would have been involved in a crash.

I bought a vw atlas 2018 expecting the front assist feature, whereby if the suv detects an obstacle in its path, it will engage the brakes to stop the vehicle and avoid a collision. Unfortunately i am experiencing a situation where the feature could cause a collision.from conversations with vm service, the sensor that detects obstacles points from the grill, directly out, and parallel to the road. When driving on a down slope that levels out, the sensor will detect the road, and, assuming it is an obstacle, engage the brakes to stop the vehicle to avoid collision. At speeds >10mph, there is no detection.but, i discovered (multiple times) that entering traffic from a car park creates the down angle, and (because its is essential to drive slowly exiting a car park to fully observe the oncoming traffic) the speed whereby the feature engages and stops the suv. In multiple occasions this has stops us in incoming traffic, with the real possibility of a drivers side collision.i had started to disable the front assist feature but discovered this must be done on every trip, and of course (a) sometimes this is forgotten and (b) others driving the suv may not remember or even know.i feel that this feature (acknowledgedly a great safety feature when driving on a level road), is actually a potential collision hazard when driving in the conditions described above.

The contact owns a 2018 volkswagen atlas. The contact stated that the brake booster failure indicator illuminated. Shortly after, the brake pedal went up and down on its own and had to be depressed with full force in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to neftin westlake volkswagen (3550 auto mall dr, thousand oaks, ca 91362) on two different occasions where they replaced the low pressure sensor for the brake booster and the vacuum hose. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 13,039.

I was driving on interstate 95 and the car in front of me suddenly braked hard. I also applied the brake and felt confident that it would have stopped on time. The atlas automatic braking system took over and put my car to a complete stop on the highway and i was unable to apply the gas to keep going until i put car in park, shut off car and restart, put back in drive and got out of there as quickly as possible hoping that no cars behind me would crash into me with 3 children in the back of the vehicle.this is unacceptable and extremely dangerous. I have since turned off the front assist mechanism. However, every time i start the car i must remember to do this because it defaults back to front assist.

Atlas is on its 3rd battery in 30,000 miles. When the battery fails it will die in an intersection during auto start stop. After boosting electronic steering, brakes, adaptive lighting, regular lighting, blinkers all fail and often limits to 15 mph

Pulling out of parking lots where there is slight dip crash avoidance system will kick in while turn into traffic and will stop the vehicle almost middle of the road, almost got t bone few time, i have broughtup to vw attention, dealer keeps saying nothing wrong with vehicle . To me it is safety concern, definitely for vw, thank you

On multiple occasions our 2018 vw atlas has had its emergency braking feature engage in an unexpected and dangerous way.specifically, during urban driving when having to traverse the normal dip from driveway to street, across a gutter or other low point, the emergency braking system abruptly halts the vehicle and disables movement.when this occurs it is extremely jarring and shuts down normal operation, requiring some sort of gear change or restart.it occurs more frequently when accelerating faster over the dip resulting in a more bumpy movement. It is a major problem when you're attempting to turn into moving traffic quickly.it leaves the vehicle and passengers especially vulnerable as we're perpendicular to oncoming traffic.as a mother of 3 small children in car seats, i am extremely concerned.

My 2018 vw atlas brake sensors that activate when they see something that may cause a crash slamming the brakes on.that would be good if it was reasonable but what happens is the brakes slam on just driving out of a driveway!!i have taken it to vw and they can't do anything because it was within the design settings.it always does it when you least expect it so when pulling out of a driveway it is a crap shoot whether it will activate the brakes or not, and it is going to cause a accident because you don't know when or where it is going to happen.i wrote a complaint at car complaints.com and i saw several other people having the same problem. I worry about the snow and what would happen it is a very unsafe condition please help with getting vw to fix this issue. Thank you,[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Driving on highway, engine and brakes stop working 2 times. Got the car in the vw shop , they said it was a loose fuse connector. They "fix it" and 2 days later we have the same problem. Car will be back on shop. Called vw each time, opened a case with them to.

Even though my vehicle was not covered by previous recalls i have just had a problem with the brakes.the brake petal went all the way to the floor, and the vehicle did not stop.the vehicle was moving less than 5 mph.active start stop system (fuel efficiency) was engaged but i do not know if it was active. Vehicle was in stop and go traffic headed downhill.i was exiting a parking garage on a city street.

The automatic emergency braking system keeps activating without reason, slamming on the brakes, when there are no obstacles in front of the vehicle. This happens even when 'front assist' and 'lane assist' are switched off. During our trip from texas to arizona and back, this has happened more than 10 times. It always occurs when the cruise control is switched on, while in the left lane, passing a semi truck. Each time, the atlas was clearly in our lane and the truck was definitely in its lane, not wandering over the lane divider. It has happened when on a straight away and also when passing a truck on a left curve. This is a significant safety hazard. If any vehicle had been close behind us when it activated, it would have slammed into the back of us.

While applying brakes to come to a stop at a stop light, the brakes would not work and then made a metal grinding sound. An alert went off and the brake light began blinking. The automatic brakes engaged and slammed on. The brake light went solid and then off, and was replaced by a "brake booster faulty" warning. After this incident, the vehicle returned to normal functioning.

When vehicle travel down an incline like a driveway, the emergency breaking feature will unexpectedly engaged, causing the vehicle to come to a complete and sudden stop. When this occurs, i have no control over the continued movement of the vehicle. I am required to change gears and/or restart the vehicle in order to move the vehicle again. This poses a extreme safety issue as the vehicle will shut down when you are attempting to pull out of a private drive and on to a active roadway, increasing the risk of a side on vehicle collision. Issue was reported to vw service department. Service manager was able to duplicate the issue. Service manager also tested another vw atlas on the sale lot with the same feature. Service manager reported that the same issue occurred with the other atlas as well. Service department was unable to correct the issue, reporting the vehicle is "operating as designed." this issue poses a major safety issue no only to the driver and occupants of the vehicle, but to other motorists on the road. Volkswagen has been given notice of the issue and refuses to acknowledge of take action.

After 2 years of owning the car, and about 34k miles, i had to replace both the rotor and pads of the front brakes. The part of the rotor facing the interior of the vehicle were gauged about 2mm deep by the pads. Those pads still had about 2mm left of life according to the tech. The exterior side of the rotor was in good condition with the pads still having about 4mm.having to replace pads and rotors after such a short amount of life shows inappropriate design. Additionally the fact that the rotor was more than worn out ( the pad created a grove on the rotor) shows:1/ a huge difference of force applied between the inner and outer pad2/ possible material issue on either the pads or the rotor

The brake booster failure light came. The brake booster light appeared, then the brake pedal became spongy, pulsed and the vehicle slowed down. Additionally, this happened on highways with light traffic with 4-5 car lengths within the same lanes moving 60 mph. The vehicle was in the service shop for nearly a month. The manufacturer sent technicians/engineers to troubleshoot and help resolve the issue. The vehicle was not going on a road that had an incline or decline. The weather was dry, sunny, with no precipitation of any kind.

While driving yesterday i was exiting a shopping plaza on a city street and turned right and my car completely stopped in the middle of traffic. Many cars were coming and had to slam on their breaks thankfully avoiding a collision. This is because of the maneuver breaking sensors. I drive and constantly hear beep beep beep from them sensing something, when in fact nothing is even near my car. This is a serious flaw. Please do a recall asap to fix this.

The parking brake will not turn off once pressed. The car has been at the dealership for three weeks.

Rotars are warped after reporting problems with the brakes to the dealer on oct 6,2017 current mileage is 27,000

As i was going straight through a busy intersection the car automatic braking turned on and caused the car to stop in the middle of the intersection. I was almost t-boned by another car. There are nothing in front of me. Clear day. 85 degrees. 9 am.

Hi my wife drives a 2018 atlas as our family car. We have had several incidents where the automatic braking has suddenly engaged when there were no cars near the vehicle. This has happened while parking on flat surfaces in an empty lot, parking in empty lot on a very slightly incline, and while cruising within a highway lane without a car immediately in front or behind us.unpredictable uncontrolled sudden braking is dangerous and can actually cause collisions. The atlas is a vehicle which is commonly used to transport families and their children. I hope a nhtsa recall can be issued to address this problem.

I was turning left on a busy road out of a parking lot and had all three of my kids in the car with me. My emergency brake turned on without any warning and stopped my car heading east/west in traffic heading north/south. My foot was on the gas trying to get out of the way and suddenly the emergency brake turned off and my car sped forward into the traffic. I was able to swerve to the side and get out of the way of other cars before any accidents were caused. This is extremely dangerous and could have killed myself and all three of my children.

The faulty brake boost warning continues to come on while driving even after being "fixed" by the dealership. The cars brakes locked up on me when i was reversing into a parking spot? then the car turned completely off?? i had to turn the car back on and continue to park?? there was also an auto start/ stop error warning that came on while driving!!

Noise coming from transmission at take off; passenger driver side and driver side door weathering seal coming off; noise coming from steering when turning sounds like upper suspension mount faulty.

Car was parked in driveway, turned car on and lights indicated low voltage and turned car off. Turned car back on so car could charge battery but a/c wasn't working and power steering wasn't working so put in reverse to see if it was a fault and start driving and everything died instantly and car had to be towed from spot.

Lane assist has jerked car towards oncoming traffic on several occassions, making it a useless and dangerous feature. Adverse weather and inadequate road lines/markings exasperate the issue, but i have had instances where neither of these conditions were present and lane assist still jerked the car into oncoming traffic. In order to avoid an accident while using this feature, one must keep ahold of the steering wheel much stronger than what is typical, otherwise it will pull out of your hand. When it has occurred, i had to actively fight against the pull. This has occurred on city streets as well as on the highway. I keep this feature turned off due to the risk that it poses while left on.

At around 40-50 miles an hour the lane assist will periodically jerk the steering wheel to one side when there is a break in the lines painted on the road. I have had the car to the dealership over 8 times for this issue and they are unable to du[plicate the problem and therefore unable to do anything about it. They tell me to either turn the lane assist off (but i paid extra for the capability) or get used to it because that car is working within the manufacturers specifications.

Atlas is on its 3rd battery in 30,000 miles. When the battery fails it will die in an intersection during auto start stop. After boosting electronic steering, brakes, adaptive lighting, regular lighting, blinkers all fail and often limits to 15 mph

While driving my volkswagen atlas se with technologu in the left lane of a two lane road (each way), the vehicle abruptly and forcibly pulled to the right. Upon this change in direction i immediately turned the steering wheel to the left to correct the change in direction and to avoid hitting a vehicle in the right lane. This occurred while using the 'lane assist' function which i have used ever since owning the car (4 months). That being said, i have experienced the vehicle correct the steering while driving with lab assist on and i have never experienced such a forceful change in direction.

Driving straight on a 2 lane highway with lane assist on, the wheel began to pull towards the center line as another vehicle was approaching from the opposite lane. This happened 2 different times during this particular drive.

The sunroof is leaking a lot of water. The vw dealership says it is because the drain tube gets clogged, the cleaned it and wanted to charge me $80 for something i have no control over. Finally they honored the warranty and i didn't pay. This complaint is to help other people if this happens to them.

Driver side b pillar rattle tapping. Visible weld gap between body and sheet metal. The weld was not properly done. Tapping noise is noticeable when driving over bumpy roads or when pressure is applied against the b pillar.

The firewall was broken during a repair to the air conditioning system by the dealership in september 2017. We were never informed about the firewall being broken during the repair. We were only informed when we took it to another dealership for another repair in november 2017. Volkswagen knowingly allowed us to drive a vehicle with a broken firewall for 2 months.

2018 volkswagen atlas. Consumer stated that there is water in the passenger side floorboard.the consumer stated that the condensation drain tube that was connected to the a/c evaporator coil was twisted at the drain pan. This caused the water to pool under the floorboards. The consumer was concerned the air bag would need to be replaced. The consumer referenced recall 87f9.

Purchased the atlas brand new. 2000 miles in started to hear loud rattling noise coming from the front of the car like the struts were going bad, took to dealership they stated my dust boot cover was stuck and just needed to be greased. 1000-2000 more miles later same noise came back took it to the dealership they couldn't duplicate the noise it is especially loud when going over bumps. I made shop manager ride with me and he heard the noise. He replaced a strut mount and dust cover. 2500 more miles later and the noise is back. Boot cover is stuck again. Dealership fixed it again car is back in the shop for the noise again. Problem has been reported to vw no response yet. This is the 4th rental car i have had due to this problem. On the third go around they told me they fixed the problem and i didn't even get out of the parking lot and heard the noise. Turned right around and took it back. They gave my rental car back and had my car for a week.

The rear of the vehicle dropped 5" to 6" after driving approx. 400miles. The driver side wheel well is 1.5" from the tire & the passenger side is 2" away. The wheel well has a "warped" wheel well. The springs seems to be locked or dropped. Looking at the atlas in profile the rear is lower than the front. Before the trip i was able to walk under the tailgate when open without hitting my head & now the rear of the vehicle is low, i have to bend over to prevent hitting my head. Please note, i am not a trained service tech. I am an owner; i am doing a process of elimination for why the rear is lower. I searched google & found that in february volkswagen recalls 6,322 vehicles to repair faulty rear springs. But my vehicle was not listed on the recall. I am out of state from my purchased dealer & the local dealer does not have a recall listed as "faulty rear springs" for my vin. We have 20' black rims / wheels on the vehicle. The photo shows the factory installed trailer hitch receiver at 13" & according to vw website it should 19".(feb. 18, 2019 - volkswagen has recalled 6,000 vehicles to repair possible faulty rear springs. According to the automaker, it is possible that a rear coil spring might shatter causing handling problems and the possibility for an accident.)

At roughly 5000 miles 2018 volkswagen atlas se 2.0t began having a lot of noise coming from the front suspension. Noise happened mostly at lower speeds and was a rattle as well as a bottoming out sound. Vehicle was also pulling hard to the right and alignment seemed to be off. Vehicle was taken into vw dealership for repairs. Initial report was that the front boots were leaking grease and thought to be the cause of the problem, boots were replaced and technicians still noted a sound coming from the same area. Steering and axle parts were overnighted 4 times, each part not fixing the problem. Vehicle is still at the dealership. Axle and alignment problems could potentially lead to the vehicle being pulled out of the lane of travel and cause a wreck. Dealership reports that they are not responsible for the alignment of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2018 volkswagen atlas. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 18v904000 (suspension). The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time to repair the vehicle. Volkswagen of asheville (621 brevard rd, asheville, nc 28806, (828) 232-4000) was contacted and confirmed that parts were not available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.*pmconsumer states that dealer informed them that parts were available. Vehicle was taken in and suspension was replaced. *dl

The contact owns a 2018 volkswagen atlas. The contact stated that the vehicle made a loud noise while driving at any speed. The vehicle was taken to bayside volkswagen (31 watermill lane, great neck ny, 11021, 516-348-2500) where it was diagnosed that the shocks were made with defective material and needed to be replaced. The shocks were not replaced because the dealer stated that the parts were unavailable for the repair. The manufacturer was notified and provided case number: 180142985. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 800.

After making a left u turn on a local road, i heard a loud "eeek" sound and then the car became dangerously shaky. The mechanics at the vw service center told us that the passenger side axle was broken. We purchased this car brand new and had only driven 2300 miles with it so far. Vw customer care has not been helpful. They were not able to assure us that the vehicle will be safe to drive, only told us that the replaced axle will have a 12 month warranty. We have left multiple vm for the customer care person who's supposed to handle this case but have not heard back. It has been 2 days already. We do not feel safe in a vw vehicle and the way they responded to this issue showed truly how little they care about vehicular safety and quality

My car battery has died twice now in 2 months on a car that is only about 1 year old. Without warning and it was very difficult to get it jumpstarted again. Taking it into the dealer to have it inspected but have seen several forums of others who own the same car that have also had this issue.

I have a 2018 vw atlasse noticed this car does not have the ability to open the trunk or backdoor from within the car. This has to be done from the outside at all times. I called the manufacture vw customer care 1-800-822-8987 and i was informed i need to upgrade to the next trim to get the ability to do so.i thought this was a standard feature in all cars? this is a safety issue should a third row passenger need to use the doorfor emergency purposes.upgrading to a lift gate which comes with the next trim is no excuse for vw not to have a basic manual opener.

Vw called to inform me a the safety recall. The first person i spoke with at the dealership said my car was not affected. The second person at the dealership stated my car was affected. When i run my number in the website search it does not show a recall. This is dangerous. If i was not suppose to drive my car due to this recall fix your search site. It is misleading.

My suv is in the shop for stopping when it should not stop. When pulling out of driveways. The vehicle will apply the automatic braking system leaving me and the suvout in the middle of traffic.

On 11/20/2018 my low coolant light came on.i took it to a local dealership in town & they topped off the coolant.the tech advised me to take it to my registered dealership for inspection.on 11/21/2018 i took it to my dealership & stated the issue and noted the warning light. They inspected the vehicle, found the fluid was low (again only 24 hours after being topped off).ran a pressure test & inspected for leaks.the tech said the fluid was low & they don't know why/where.they said this is normal.this is not normal on a 1 year old vehicle with < 10k miles purchased brand new.this is a pressurized system so either it's a bad head gasket & the system will burst, it's leaking & they didn't look very hard, or it's leaking into my engine cylinders & mixing with oil which will seize the vehicle.this complaint comes in addition to another complaint i filed with nhtsa where my vehicle died while in motion on 02/10/2019.this atlas is not safe to drive & has obvious manufacture defects/poor engineering.

Twice i have been stranded because the auto start stop is not providing enough power to the battery and therefor the vehicle will not start sometimes without being jumped.i have been stranded twice because the auto shut off has turned the vehicle off at a light and then the vehicle would not restarte.

Battery died out of nowhere. Now car radio is turning on by itself when car is off. Happens repeatedly after about one minute.

Sunroof glass exploded for no apparent reason.

I read under a complaint site that you could press the start stop button while in motion not in park and shut off the vehicle at speed.i tried this and it does shut off the vehicle.the location of the button is right next to the gear shift and is easily accessible to children and any number of accidental reasons to press itthe vehicle becomes very hard to steer and brakes become very different while not running.i fear for my family. I tried this in a parking lot while going very very slow to ensure my ability to stop safely if needed.at speed i don't know if i could have.the atlas has 83 miles on it so it's a factory safety issue.

Vehicle has a maneuver braking system that is faulty. The system is supposed to detect if there is a vehicle or object that you are about to hit and auto brake. When i pull out of my driveway at home or work the system auto brakes and activates the maneuver braking when there is no vehicle or object present. This seems to occur on driveways that have a slight decline. This is a safety issue because when the maneuver braking is activated the car stalls in the middle of the road for no reason.

Front assist with autonomous emergency braking does nothing on my car. I am not receiving any audio/video alerts, nor it's trying to slow or stop vehicle. System not working as described in the manual and advertised in the official vw video. I can't rely on the system at this point, as i know it will not slow down or stop my car as it should.

Rear passenger window when rolling down would stop halfway down inconsistently then would just fall if you tried to roll it down. Took it into the dealership after diagnostics it is an issue with the pin.

Car was parked in driveway, turned car on and lights indicated low voltage and turned car off. Turned car back on so car could charge battery but a/c wasn't working and power steering wasn't working so put in reverse to see if it was a fault and start driving and everything died instantly and car had to be towed from spot.

Engine turns off while running. Displaysays to turn on engine manually. The problem is that if you are in a highway you have to stop an push the brake and then the start button. It happened in acity street. This is the fifth time it goes to the dealer to solve this problem.

2018 vw atlas manual, rear temperature control panel has a design oversight which should be considered a safety concern.the vehicle targeted the american family car market which should have assumed rear passengers were too young to reach the manual rear temperature controls from the 2nd row seating and provided a means for the 1st row passengers to control whether the rear vents blow hot or cold.this function was intentionally removed from the front panel manual controls.the upgraded tech package for the atlas provides front and rear zone automatic temperature controls as well as the ability of 1st row occupants to override the rear settings.the manual controls only allow 1st row occupants to enable or disable the rear controls whereas minivans / family suvs experienced include rear off, rear control, and rear sync to front.the issue here is that if a child strapped in a car seat in the rear says they are cold, the 1st row passengers are going to do something about it.this involves reaching blindly behind the center console to feel around for the appropriate buttons and may even result in the driver having to remove their eyes from the road to peer over the console to see what the settings are.the only change a front row occupant can make to the rear temperature setting from the front panel is to disable it which is an unacceptable solution in most cases.in other words this design flaw encourages a driver to take their eyes off the road or be distracted beyond what holding a cell phone for a voice call does.if most states consider it illegal to drive/ talk non-hands free, this design feature should be corrected with a volkswagen firmware change.after 9 months of attempting to do exactly that, vw has responded flatly that they will do absolutely nothing to correct the design.dealers aren't even aware of the behavior in order to warn customers.

The forward collision avoidance and object detection were not working when i picked up the new lease vehicle from the dealer on june 19, 2018. Upon starting the vehicle a message appears on the console that the front assist is "not available". Automatic braking, collision avoidance is affected. Acc (assisted cruise control) is also not operational without the front assist functioning. The dealer has made several attempts to fix the problem. There have been five separate attempts by vw service to fix this problem. Each time they corrected the problem it stops working within 1-5 days. I have taken the suv in for repair for this problem on 7/12/18, 7/24/18, 10/8/18, 2/12/19, 2/26/19.

The anti-collision braking system engages when the car is driving out of driveways or stores with a dip in the road. The system identifies the road as a car or obstacle in the way and hard brakes the vehicle leaving is standing unable to move. Extremely dangerous!

The auto rake system on my atlas sel is extremely dangerous. When exiting driveways/parking lots that are steep, the front sensors sense the road, start beeping and on several occasions stopped the car in the middle of the road before i could get completely on the street. This forces you to either turn off the system (that you are paying for), or exit very slowly hoping that the system won't brake all of a sudden. Volkswagen needs to address this issue before accidents happen

The steering wheel of my 2018 atlas front wheel drive shakes when stepping on the gas from stop when the road is wet. I took it to the dealer 3 times and i was told that this is how the esp works. I even talked to vw customer service and i received a letter that my vehicle is performing as designed. I've driven front wheel drives before and never experienced this type of issue. I am concerned that there might be a hidden issue that is hiding right now and may cause an accident in the future. I'vesearched the atlas forums and no one is experiencing this issue.

Forward collision system fault random forward collision system stopped working for approx. 45 days, fault error on display but did not show up vw vehicle status report "volkswagen car net security & service (vehicle diagnostic and maintenance) happened in baja sur mexico and vw usa would not cover under warranty service in mexico.started working again unexpectedly without being repaired.

Noise coming from transmission at take off; passenger driver side and driver side door weathering seal coming off; noise coming from steering when turning sounds like upper suspension mount faulty.

When attempting to start the vehicle, it barely started and then went into limp mode. Had to get it towed to the dealer. The dealer determined that the battery was defective and had an insufficient charge to power the computer. The battery was replaced under warranty.

The heating system is not functioning properly when the remote starter is used, and there is no immediate solution to address the problem.the heating system disperses cold air instead of heating the cabin and defrosting the windows/windshields.this has been an issue since getting the car in november 2017. V told me this is a known national issue and no immediate solution.i'm concerned that all vw customers who purchased a in atlas with a remote starter, are not getting the service the paid or are paying for.nice addition prospective buyers or new leasers are not being informed. I know you have major issues to work with at the national level; however, since the scope of this issue is national you may want to be aware.

Takata recall

I forgot to add in my original complaint that when the faulty booster warning came on so did my emergency brake and i was haulted while driving and this really freaked me out as i have 4 children and the reason i purchased the car was for all the safety features and now i feel the exact opposite!

Frequently while driving the 'lane assist' feature misinterprets freeway on ramps and old temporary construction lines and veers tha car away.this dramatic sudden turning can swerve the vehicle into another lane, off the road or into another vehicle. It happens nearly every day during normaldriving.

On four separate occasions, my 2018 vw atlas sel premium has activated the brake maneuvering system without warning. There is an aggressive braking combined with a loss of control of acceleration. Typically, this occurs when exiting a driveway or parking lot. On two of the occasions, i was merging into heavy oncoming traffic and the system left me stranded in a dangerous location perpendicular to oncoming traffic. This is a huge safety concern for me and especially if my wife and children are in the car. The car is currently at the dealer service center and there is currently one other atlas in the shop for the same complaint. Multiple sources on the internet from other owners have announced similar occurrences. Many have reported that the service center simply tells them to deactivate the system. Well, that is not a fix... It is a temporary work around. Many have stated that vw engineers have reported back that the system works as intended and no fix is required. This is unacceptable. If the system is working as intended and is activating during potentially dangerous situations when there is no actual need for collision avoidance braking maneuvers, the system may need to be redesigned. I have not verified personally as to if vw denies any fault but i will certainly do so if the service department tells me that it is operating normally and i should just disable the feature. I paid extra for that feature, along with other safety features available because i want them for added safety should i, or my family, need them. The feature itself shouldn't put me in a dangerous situation.

One of the safety features of the 2018 vw atlas is the automatic breaking system in the instance that a crash may occur. With this the front sensors of the vehicle warn prior to by either beeping or in some cases slamming on the automatic breaks. I have found that when i am on a hill of a certain grade, that the sensor system recognizes the bottom of the hill as an obstacle and many times when trying to accelerate off the hill turning onto the next road the automatic breaking system goes into effect stopping me dead into cross traffic and in some instances giving no warning to someone behind me that i may break urgently when i should be accelerating through an intersection/from a hill. I have almost been hit 3x with these issues and now find that i have a lot of stress when trying to drive off hills that this will continue to happen. I have tried turning off the front vehicle warning (which needs to be done every single time you restart the car) and this doesn't make any difference. To this same note, when i am in stop and go traffic, my front sensors continually go off which is a complete distraction when driving.

When descending an incline at slow speed to turn onto a roadway the sensor perceives the road as an obstacle which causes the car to auto-stop partially in the road. I then have to disengage the emergency brake and begin again. This is totally unsafe. It has happened 10 times when leaving my own driveway.

While driving our vehicle down the freeway our sunroof unexpectedly exploded outwards. The glass is clearly forced from the inside out. Vw dealership and vw glass expert concluded that there was no sign of outside intrusion that would of caused the glass to break. Fortunately, that morning we closed the screen that covers the panoramic sunroof. One of our children was in the backseat and had the cover not been closed then they would of been covered in glass.vw has denied our claim for a lemon buyback.while vw has repaired the sunroof, we feel that this represents a structural defect and that it is unsafe to continue to carry our family around in a vehicle that can suddenly and unexpectedly explode a very large glass window down upon our family. Unfortunately at this time we do not have the resources to not use this vehicle as it is the primary mode of transportation.

I was driving on the highway at about 70mph with no other cars nearby when i heard a loud explosion/gunshot sound and then the glass from sunroof rained down all over me. Luckily, i only sustained minor abrasions to my neck/back from the glass. When i looked up, most of the glass from the front part of my panoramic sunroof was gone. We took it to the dealership, who claimed that it must have been a rock, however, no other vehicles were nearby and i was nowhere near an overpass. They recommend filing an insurance claim, which i did, and usaa covered it.
