Complaint type:inferior/defective/faulty engineering/source of a critical internal engine componant, resulting in premature failure and extensive, and potentially unnecessary costly repair.vehicle:1999 victory v92c motorcyclecomponant:counter-balancer bearingcomplaint:a post failure evaluation leads to reasonable conclusions:1.)the bearing, quite standardized, with multiple applications, was incorrectly configured for the specific use in the bottom end of the v92c engine:a.)metal not hardened, thus not suited for heat and vibration commonplace for this particular componant.b.)this failure to properly scale/engineer this componant results in an extensive repair.an $18 replacement part, requiring a full breakdown of the v92c engine.c.)further, as the required engine breakdown and re-assembly is conducted, virtually all engine gaskets are required to be replaced at substantial additional expense.conclusion:the manufacturer's engine engineering team should consider the ramifications ofsignificant problems for current owners, as well as future owners experiencing failures unless this specific componant/ specifications are revisited and reevaluated with failure frequency data considered.it is my considered opinion that the manufacturer has an obligation to investigate, collect data and issue a recall if this failure frequency falls outside the parameters of mean time between failure to be expected from an internal componant such as this, requiring such an extensive and costly repair procedure.

While under acceleration shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear entering a highway from an on ramp, the transmission seems to disengage causing the engine to rev up to a high rpm momentarily then suddenly re-engage without warning. This always happens under heavy acceleration especially when going into traffic on to a highway when i can least afford to lose acceleration.i purchased the bike brand new in march 2000 with 1 mile on the odometer. It has been within the last thousand miles of driving this has started to occur.it most recently happened on january 1st when traveling to a club sponsored "frosty nuts" new year's day cruise.bike now has approx. 17000 miles.i contacted the dealer about this, it is very well known that the 1999 v92 series has this issue and i hope that the manufacture will issue a recall before this kills or maims riders, drivers of other vehicles or pedestrians.at this time (3/23/2016) the dealer stated it is a very big job (=big$$$) to correct the problem, if it can be corrected at all due to lack of factory spare parts being made available by polaris/victory.

I was entering a freeway on ramp accelerating when i had trouble shifting from 3rd gear to 4th. Instead of shifting into 4th it went into a neutral state and nothing in the gear box felt like it was engaging.

(1) transmission failure - loss of third gear.(2) the core of concerns for my transmission were a failure to remain in, and eventual inability to attain, third gear, and gear tooth sheering.(3) upon teardown, it was discovered that the 1st/3rd gear mainshaft shift fork which resides on a shift rail was badly abraded, and separation of teeth on the mating gears:http://www.roadkillonline.net/imagedb_images/35_2077.jpghttp://www.roadkillonline.net/imagedb_images/35_2078.jpg

I have a 1999 victory v92c.the transmition gears broke, and the motorcycle would pop out of gear. This would happen when you are driving down the road. This would lock-up the rear tire, and i almost crashed several times! i took the motorcycle into the dealer. They told me that there was a lot of motorcycles that are doing the same thing and the company will not stand behind there motorcycles(about 85% need new transmitions) and was also told that several people have crashed becouse of this! i later payed for the transmition at a cost of $2,144.24 out of my pocked!! this motorcycle only had about 5,000 miles on it! this shouln't be up to the comsumer to take the cost and, treat there life as a gave at the casino!!riding there bike is not a game!?they new there was a problame with the transmitions in late 2000!!, and they will not fix the problame!!! please help!!

Repeated occasions when the bike would slip out of gear or stick between gears while shifting. Last incident caused the rear wheel to lock up and break the drive belt.

Motorcycle fails to shift from 2nd to 3rd and finds a false neutral.

I have a 1999 victory v92c, serial number 1398.i have experienced jumoing out of gear between 3rd and 4th gear under acceleration.also false netraul between 2nd and 3rd gear.this has been a constant problem since i bought the motorcycle new in july 1998.

While taking a mortorcycle trip from my home to reno, nv, my 1999 victory v92c started popping out of gear into a neutral state. Almost causing me to lose control of the motorcycle. Nothing has been done at this point to correct this problem. I am aware of other victory motorcycle owners who have had the same type of problems with these early transmission problems.this motorclycle has only 21,000miles on it with maintenance done on a regular basis.i believe this to be due to a defective transmission. Repair for this will quite costly and should be covered by the manufacturer.

Transmission: missed shifts between 2nd and 3rd gears, drops back into 2nd gear causing sudden deceleration

Intermitent transmission going to a "false" neutral condition, causing loss of power and control. Intermitent sudden down shifting from thrid gear to second gear, causing rear wheel skid and loss of control.

Defective gear box on 1999 victory v92c motorcycle, 3000 miles.

Dt: contact states while drivingmotorcycle at high speeds the gear switchedfrom drive to neutral.the vehicle has not been to a service dealer as of yet.

1.constant problems shifting gears, .must be very careful to "load up" on the shift lever before pulling in the clutch. If not it will miss a shift, or pop out of gear. I've almost been hit because i lost power, and it downshifted and i almost lost control.3. Awaiting a recall, and am being very careful.

Transmission will not properly shift into third gear or will jump out of third gear. When this occurs bike will slide the back tire or will lurch/jump.this condition results in the rider not being able to excelerate properly and lose control of the bike. Cars have almost rearend this bike on numerous times. Problem is well documented with dealer, several different riders have noted this problem with this model machine

1999 polaris victory 92c manual transmission.ea05-002.what is the status of this investigation.i bought my motorcycle brand new and have very few miles on it (less than 2000) as i am afraid the transmission is going to fail.the only thing i have received from polaris regarding this issue is they are willing to do a repair upgrade to the transmission if i will pay half the cost of the repair kit ($884.00) plus the cost of the inspection and installation of the upgrade kit (approximately 11 hours of labor @ $60.00 per hour = $660.00) the total cost to me to upgrade the transmission is approximately $1550.00.i do not feel this is fair if the transmission has a design flaw.

My 1999 polaris victory motorcycle model v92c which was purchased new in 9-00 would on occasion not shift into gear.the shift would feel normal, just that when i would engage the clutch it would free rev as if it was in neutral.this had become more frequent over the last summer.when i contacted my servicing dealer they stated that they may be able to get me a 'goodwill transmission' from polaris for free, but that i'd have to pay the labor.i took the deal thinking it was the best offer i could get, the total bill for the labor was just shy of $1000.this false neutral as it's commonly referred too can cause several safety issues should someone need to quickly move away from danger on their motorcycles.i believe this situation needs to be researched further and addressed.

I recently purchased a 1999 victory v92 motorcycle. About a week after i bought the motorcycle it started shifting into neutral when you tried to upshift, then when you try to upshift again it is in the wrong gear.this has happened numerous times now. This happened when a car did not see me and i needed to give it some throttle to get out of the way, instead i was busy searching for the right gear.luckily i was not ran over. I have read many reports of the same thing happening to other people, sometimes with the transmission downshifting resulting in a skid, but there is nothing being done about it. The problem with these motorcycles needs to be fixed before people are injured or killed, which i am sure some people have been.

I have had three instances with my 99 victory v92c transmission down shifting without my input, several false nuetrals and transmission hanging up 3rd gear.all within the last 4 months.

Transmition difficulties from day one, no response from dealer, poor shift quality, many false neutrals, many missed shifts, down shifts harsh and loud.

Motorcycle intermittantly downshifts on its own while accellerating. Also, the bike's transmission, upon upshifting, will find a false neutral between gears, resulting in engine over-revving. I have not contacted victory yet, but i plan to do so soon.

Iam the owner of a 1999 victory motorcyle. Two years ago i noticed dificulty shifting into2nd gear. This only happed once in a while.now i not only have dificulty shifting but the bike slips out of 3rd gear. Im afraid my trans is about to fail all together. I know this is a problem on many 1999--2001 motorcyles.

On numerous occasions when shifting the transmission from 2nd to 3rd it has defaulted to neutral (with a more noticeable clunk than the normal clunk noise) on several occasions it has slipped out of 1st gear on launch (in traffic with the vehicle behind me getting way too close to my rear fender before i could manage to get it back into gear and continue to accelerate) and on moderate to heavy acceleration on a 2-3 shift it has defaulted to 2nd gear causing a rapid deceleration that was very unnerving and could have caused a loss of control. These conditions all still exist, are all known conditions (by the manufacturer) as the "fix" is to up grade the transmission parts to a later design which i will do but feel this is a safety issue that should be recalled by the manufacturer at their expense.

Transmission failure - jumps out of gear.cannot afford repairs.

Transmission down shifts from 3rd gear to 2nd gear without warning causing fast slow down in speed , 1 st occurrence on bridge in daytona with passenger , no crash occurred but was very close call , transmission still has same problem , after a few days ,1999 victory v92 c20000 miles.

The transmission has shifted hard & loud since i bought the victory. It has also popped out of gear & skipped gears frequently. The problems are most common when shifting 3/2, 2/3, 4/3, 3/4. The dealer said it is just the nature of the beast. I asked another dealer & i was told the same thing. One dealer i spoke with no longer carries the victory line and the other is completely out of business. I ama very experienced technician, and motorcycle rider. It is clear that my victory has a serious transmission concern. I contacted victory, they said they might pay a portion of the repair, as long as the cause is not abuse or lack of maintenance. I would have to pay for the tear down. They would determine the cause and the amount of assistance if any,at that time. I declined at that time. I really felt that victory was trying to rip me off. A month ago the trans started a light rattle noise in all gears. I parked it at that time afraid of a lock up/crash. I know of the transmission problems with early victory motorcycles, and so does victory. Its time they do the right thing before more people get hurt.

Bike intermittently "misses" shifts, sometimes delayed action in shifting, falling into gear seconds after shifter moved. Particularly disconcerting when merging onto freeway and getting "neutral" when third gear desired. Possible saftey concern here. No major failure or accident yet, just an annoyance so far, but i'm concerned about the possibility of further incidents as transmission wears. In the wrong situation, this could result in an unexpected inability to accelerate, and possible loss of control of the motorcycle.

Constant problems with shifting of my 1999 victory motorcycle transmission from 2nd to 3rd gear.

Bought this motorcycle from a friend of the dealer with very low mileage, at first, when riding going from 2nd to 3rd would go to a false neutral occassionally, now after a bit more riding, this occurs often...on 2 of those occassions was in a tight situation with a car and on 1 occassion was almost hit due to this problem...mentioned this problem tothe dealer and was offered a transmission upgrade for a few thousand dollars also when shifting there is a loud clunk....the shock has some kind of defect as when my wife rides with me and we hit a bump her neck and spine gets hurt....the bike shakes tremendously and my headlights have come loose often as well as my tail light.

1999 victory v92chad wierd noises in third gear for a while, researched this and found of problems with this year of victory. After asking two different dealers about recalls and fixing problem, decided to wait, so i could save money for the costly repair ($3200??)then one day while downshifting from 4th to 3rd gear there was a horrible noise, then a bunch of gear crushing noise then the transmission locked up and sent me for a 30 to 40 foot?? skid!!!now the bike is just parked until i find out about a recall or any other safety issues with this year and model motorcycle.

The contact owns a 1999 victory v92.while driving 30 mph, the contact was unable to shift into third gear.nhtsa campaign id number 06v298000 (powertrain:manual transmission) was referenced, however, the dealer stated that they would not repair the vehicle because it had more than 30,000 miles.the failure mileage was 60,800 and current mileage was 63,733.

I own a 1999 victory motorcycle model v92c.i have read numerous complaints nationwide on victory chat sites that the transmissions in these motorcycles are failing at an alarming rate with sometimes catastrophic results (transmissions locking up and thus locking up the rear wheel while driving, causing accidents, etc.).i have 18,000 miles on my bike and it is now showing the symptoms leading to such failure.false neutral indications, unreliable shifting, and a strange vibration from the transmission area.i believe transmission failure is imminent.i have been in touch with the dealer i purchased the bike from new on 4/16/99 and they tell me my only recourse is to purchase an "upgraded" replacement transmission to the tune of $2500 plus labor.i'm told that i'm one of the lucky ones in that i got 18000 miles out of it.because of the apparent high failure rate, the low mileage on machines at time of failure, the potential of grievous bodily harm to operator and passenger and what i have read about victory's knowledge of this problem before and during production of these motorcycles, victory motorcycles should assume responsibility for correcting the problem and do right by their customers who put their trust and faith in the company.i believe victory should be required to issue a corrective recall on all motorcycles which use this transmission.i understand an investigation has been opened on this matter but i don't know what the results are.

I purchased a 1999 victory v92 motorcycle and the third gear immediately malfunctioned. I found a recall to prevent the failure. Does this apply to the failure itself. I spoke with polaris and they want $3400 to repair the bike and then they will complete the recall repairs.

Transmission was poping in and out of 3rd and 4th gear, while riding this spring with a few other couples,my bike locked up in 4th gear causeing me to go into a slide, i kept it under control and thank god the other riders where paying attention,it could of been very serious. I contacted my dealer at turnone motorsporst and he told me that they had 2 more victory's in house with the same problem and one of them only had 1200 miles on it. He than told me that polaris was upgradeing the transmission to the 2003 tranys and that they would cover the parts but not the labor, which i payed $828.87 in out of pocket exspence.i've also filed complaints in the past regaurding this issue when i first notice aproblem.

Polaris victory motorcycle.

1999 polaris victory motorcycle. I was riding at 50mph when i shifted into 4th gear. There was a loud grinding nose and then a clunk in the transmission, then the transmission lock up and i had went into a skid. After collecting all my thoughts,i tried to shift the transmission in the none running mode and it shifts to 1st,2nd,3rd,5th, but no fourth gear.this is only one complaint of the few i've filed here about the transmission. One of the others was jumping in and out of 3rd gear which my have caused damage then.

Special note: your site does not have polaris industries or victory motorcycle so i had to choose another manufacturer to enter information.i have a 1998 victory v-92c motorcycle serial #209 that has been having transmission problems. Serial #5vpcb159x3000209, i have taken to dealer and they stated there was a loose bolt on one side which was corrected.that did not fix the problem and am now being told that the bike needs a new transmission.this bike has extremely low miles and i am the only owner.when i say low miles i have less that 10,000 miles on this model.the bike has always been maintained at the local dealer even oil changes.this bike has also only been stored inside and is in showroom condition i am extremely unhappy about this and feel that victory should recall these bikes with these transmissions that they admit are very weak.

I just purchased the bike from a used bike dealer in georgia and once i got the bike back to north carolina i put about 200 miles on the bike so far and the transmission has given me a false neutral between 2 and 3rd gear about 10-15 times.this can be very dangerous when turning and accelerating on a road with heavy traffic.i contacted the nearest victory dealer and they informed me that since the bike was out of warranty the parts of $2100 plus labor of 14hours would have to be paid by me.i have not done anything to correct this problem since i dont have the money to do so right now.

My 1999 victory is displaying the symptom's described in ea05002, including false neutral between 2nd and 3rd gears, difficulty finding neutral, and in addition, excessive mechanical noise in 4th gear.the motorcycle has approximately 9200 miles on it.

While driving 55-60 mph, the transmission engaged into neutral without warning. As a result the motorcycle down shifted from 60 to 40 mph within seconds. The consumer was concerned of being rear ended.please provide additional information.

It all started out with getting false neutrals.green light showing for nuetral and then trying to start motorcycle.just about throws you off the bike.down shift at a light and put it in nuetral and let go of clutch and jumps forward and dies.i then started getting shift drops.would shift into third and then it would drop down into second.this would not happen everytime but at least once everytime i ride the bike.now if i want to get on the throttle hard it will not shift into third at all.

Transmision miss shifts. Un expected down shifts.gets stuck between gears.

The motorcycle transmission abruptly downshifts from gear 3 to 2 causing a sudden slowdown.also exhibits false neutrals when shifting from 2 to 3.
