Takata recall: fortunately nothing serious has happened, other than the fact that the recall notice indicates i should not have a passenger in the front passenger seat as it might end in injury or death. It has been over a month since i received this notice and toyota has yet to offer a fix for my vehicle. This has become very difficult in both personal and business as i use my car to carry enough passengers to require an individual to be in the front seat. The only response i get from toyota is that i need to wait and worse, they cannot give me any kind of date. They are putting me in the position that i may need to purchase another vehicle but then i will not be able to sell mine with a known recall that has no status on when it will be fixed. Toyota has put me into a financial bind that may require i take a risk with an individual in the front passenger seat which in turn could cause injury or death. It's as if they are okay with dealing with a few deaths rather than spending the money to fix the issue.

2008 toyota yaris.consumer writes in regards to replacement parts not available to repair passenger frontal psan airbag inflator.

Had highland toyota replace the airbags under the takata recall. The airbag light was on prior to this repair but after the repair they had not been successful in getting the srs warning light to go out. Told me they had reset it and to drive it to see if it will go out on its own it never has. So here it is about 2 years later and still the light is on. I know i've seen other issues with the srs on toyotas come to light could this be a relation to that?

Vehicle in front of me stopped. I applied brakes and the car did not stop as usual, it just slid. I attempted to avoid the vehicle and rolled over. The airbags did not deploy and i was slammed into the steering wheel and against the door. Causing chest pain and shoulder pain.

The air bags did not deploy in a roll over and front end damage .

My fiance was in a nasty traffic accident. She was rear ended while stopped at a traffic light in her 2008 toyota yaris by a vehicle traveling at around 40-50mph. On impact she stated the seatbelt on the driver's side locked, then unlocked giving more slack as she projected forward, then gained momentum back into the drivers seat (now seated) when the belt locked again with remaining movement . The airbags did not deploy anywhere in the vehicle and the entire trunk was almost pushed into the back seat. Furthermore, her mother was in the passenger seat and recalled something similar occurring in the passenger seat as well. Needless to say, the vehicle was declared totaled by the insurance company.

Takata recall.there is an airbag recall that affects my yaris.the deployment of the passenger airbag can send hot metal along with the airbag during deployment.toyota recommends that no one sit in the passenger seat until the airbag is replaced.the recall came out in early june for my yaris, yet by early october there is no solution to the problem. I also have a corolla that had the same airbag issue, but the faulty airbag was replaced several months ago.i don't know why there is no solution for the yaris at this time and it is causing me hardship because i can't have a passenger sit in the front right seat.my toyota dealer said that there is no anticipated replacement date for the airbag, so the issues i have will continue for at least the near future. I am very frustrated with the response by toyota on this issue and would like to have my yaris fixed so i can use the front passenger seat.

I was going 15-20 mph on on ramp to the freeway and accidentally veered right hitting the guard rail on the right front side of the car. None of the airbags deployed and my seatbelt did not lock, resulting in my face hitting the steering wheel, breaking my nose and cutting my lip.

While my daughters were travelling north on the freeway an oncoming vehicle driven by an elderly lady entered the freeway going in the wrong direction. It was night time and it was raining. The cars in front of them started responding in various ways trying to avoid this vehicle. There were a number of crashes. Our vehicle hit the side rail and the vehicle in front of us . The car hit had quite a lot of damage and our vehicle was totaled . It was deemed a no fault accident on our part due to the nature of the incident. Our yaris was totaled. Completely smashed in front and sides, driver door would not even open yet no air bags deployed. None. The police officer, tow truck driver, other individuals also involved in the incident , as well as my daughters all witnesses to the state of the vehicle, were shocked with this. The vehicle was even difficult to tow. My husband and i were equally distraught at learning these air bags did not deploy in this accident as a friend of our daughter's was recently killed in a similar incident here in virginia when a drunk driver going the wrong way on a road ran in to her. We want to record this with all the appropriate authorities for further investigation. My children were able to walk away but other families may not be so lucky. Please investigate this thoroughly as it may save future lives. We can send photos or anything you might require for this investigation. Again the car was totaled and no air bags deployed, simply shocking and distressing as this is a basic safety feature nowadays.

My mother was driving on the on-ramp of i-57 in illinois.her 2008 yaris, hit a patch of ice and her car crashed into the guard rail.she was take by ambulance to the nearest hospital, where she was admitted for 2 days and released to me.during the accident, the air bags did not deploy and the seat belt disengaged causing deep visible purple bursts to her chest through her insulated down jacket. The imprint of the square seat belt buckle is still visible on her chest.she is a senior citizen, and is still in very serious pain. No one else should have to suffer the pain and suffering that my mother is going through now. The car is now in the body shop incurring many thousands of dollars worth of damage.

I tried to stop + could not. If feel as if there are several recalls on this vehicle, one that does not meet highway standards, in which the dealership should have known about before selling to me on october 31, 2016. I had trouble getting my title from the dealership + had several issues with the vehicle + it was within the 30 day warranty period, + they told me every time that everything was ok, until i was in my accident + now have + am still dealing with several medical issues.

Takata inflators. I was notified by toyota about the recall over a month ago. According to the recall i am in high risk zone because i live in south florida. I have yet to hear from them about getting a replacement. This is very scary and wrong. My kids are always in the passenger seat when i drive them places and are in mortal danger. When are these recalls going to be remedied? is there a time limit?i shouldn't be expected to put my passengers in danger everytime i drive.

Takata recall...i received this safety recall over six months ago. Once again i am waiting too long for a remedy to become available. This is not fair to vehicle owners. We can't even feel safe in our own cars nowadays. No sooner than one recall is completed, another one pops up. It's not right to ask us to squeeze our passengers into the back seat until toyota gets off their behinds and help us. Please give toyota a hugh push!

This is ridiculous towait this many years for a fix to these dangers. I demand you force toyota to get a different manufacturer fix for these air bags. I expect a response in 10 business days to email [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My fiancee bought her 2008 toyota yaris on about the 26 apr 2021. Right off she had brake failure pretty quickly after buying the car. Brake pads were suspected of failing. When the front tires were removed the calipers had built up thick rust on inside surface where the pads sit on both front calipers. The pads were pushed into the rotors heavily causing the driver side rotor to be damaged beyond acceptable limits. The right side rotor was turned successfully with enough rotor minimum thickness remaining. So the rust caused me to replace 1 rotor, both calipers and pads on front and rear brakes. The rust built up on the calipers threaded input and output brake fluid lines threaded attach points. This could have cause a fluid leak that could of been very dangerous leading to injury or death of occupants. I have not reported this to the toyota dealership or anyone else. I didn't know i could report dangerous items that could be set for a safety recall by the nhtsa. As for the airbags, the driver airbag light stays on and passenger light comes on when 10 pounds of weight is sat in passenger seat. The belt is not latched. My driver seat belt is always latched when i drive. I weigh 130 butthe light remains on. So, will the driver air bag inflator explode orfail due to the warning light illuminatimg. I was unaware of a recall for this and 3 others have not been repaired yet by previous owners. The third item is backseat seatbelt female receptical will not latch to the male end on 2 of the 3 seating positions. This is a real safety issue when we place children in the backseat. We can only take 1 child at each drive, so even adults riding in the backseat will be not buckled up, which is un-law and very dangerous causing severe injuries and even death in an accidental collision. I will take my fiancee's 2008 yaris to a toyota dealership for the 4 recalls noted today by vin,7/29/2021. Thanks, richard peavler

I want to know about settlement info we had to wait 9 hours to get our car fix and i missed work .i need to know about getting a settlement we had 3 recall on our car just want to know how to get settlement.

I have made several attempts to get my car's airbag recall done at my local toyota dealership. This is probably the 4-6th time i took it and was extremely patient with them getting it to be repaired. I continue to get these letters in the mail that my car still has a safety recall on the airbags. This dealer is the closest to me and going anywhere else would be cause an inconvenience since its about an hour away. I even took off work to get this done but it was never done. The dealer is toyota of york over at whiteford rd.i continue to drive unsafe unknowingly because of them not fixing my car like they should have the first time i took it in.recall id: qnc7-iua

During the night of 9/1/2008 i was operating a 2008 toyota yaris when i lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a garage point of impact: 15 total lose. I was injured and have had neck surgery and have chronic pain because of the crash after my surgery. Iviewedthe pictures of the vehicle i noticed that the air bags didn't deploy on impact and one of the pictures of the inside of the vehicle (the left window guard has a foam type substance connected to it) months later i contacted the insurance company and asked them where the car was after about 6 contacts and 2 months lateri received a answer the vehicle was auctioned and shipped too india. I have the contact information but the attorneys i contacted won't touch the case because of the cost and this was the second crash in 6 months and the collision center was told of the air bags not deploying the first time. I have pictures of the vehicle if that will help. I noticed other failures concerning the same type of vehicle, same year i hope that odi will make toyota fix this problem before someone dies in a crash.

When i tried to roll the window down, by clicking on the button, there was a small fire that caused smoke inside the car. I would also like to verify my breaks and airbags.i would like to make an appointment to bring my car in either monday, tuesday, thursday, or friday.

Takata recallmy car was recalledmay 23, 2016.the documentation we received advised to not have anyone use the front passenger seat since it is the front passenger airbag that is currently under recall.it is now october 28, 2016 and there is still no fix or timeline for the fix available even though i am considered in the 1st wave of fixes where is says take immediate action.how am i supposed to take immediate action if after 5 months there is still no fix available?i contacted the dealership yesterday and they have not heard anything on a timeline either.i am unable to use my vehicle to transport my entire family without the use of the front passenger seat.how long are we expected to have half a car?i must use this car to transport a toddler.how can i be assured that even with no front passenger that she will be safe in her carseat in the backseat?i have read where even the the airbag is not on, the inflator could still have issues in a collision.is this informationcorrect?i am worried for the safety of my family but i cannot afford a different vehicle at this time, not like anyone would take it as a trade in even if i could afford it.

Vehicle spun around many times out of control on an expressway hitting the guard rail several times striking the front and sides of my vehicle at a speed of 50 mph, during this time, all air bags failed to deploy resulting in injury to driver, which was the lone occupant.

I was recently involved in a motor vehicle accident.i was driving down a main road at approximately 37 mph.there was another vehicle (suv) which was stopped at a stop sign.the vehicle pulled out in front of my vehicle and the front end of my vehicle collided with the side of the other vehicle.the front of my 2008 toyota yaris had a lot of damage including the bumper and hood being pushed completely out of place.it did cause bodily injuries to me including an injured back and neck.additionally, i believe i have re-torn ligaments in which i previously had surgically repaired.my major concern is that my airbag did not deploy.

On oct 29, 2008 about 10:00 am my wife was driving our 2008 toyota yaris hatchback, traveling south bound on 7th st. In victorville ca. She was going about 35 miles an hour when a ford f150 truck made an left turn in front of her from the north bound lane my wife collided with this truck. Front end collision of the yaris hitting the truck on the passenger front wheel. Doing damage to the trucks front right quarter panel. Doing a lot of damage to the front end of our 2008 toyota yaris, bending and smashing the whole front bumper, pushing the hood out of place. And causing bodily injuries to my wife, hurting her back, neck, shoulders and right arm. My major concern is that the airbags did not activate or deploy in our 2008 toyota yaris .

2008 toyota yaris. Attorney writes on behalf of client regarding failed airbags *tgwthe consumer and his wife were involved in a frontal collision, due to the negligence of another motorist. Also, the front passenger seat belt and the rear passenger seat belt failed. Updated 03/01/11

Vehicle spun around many times out of control on an expressway hitting the guard rail several times striking the front and sides of my vehicle at a speed of 50 mph, during this time, all air bags failed to deploy resulting in injury to driver, which was the lone occupant.

The air bag light stay on / ac knob not working.

The abs brake sensor connector on the rear wheels hubs is not sealed and allows water and road salts to corrode the electrical connection, which causes the abs system to be deactivated.the vehicle still has brakes but no abs brakes. When i took the car into toyota for diagnostics they said that it has been a problem and that there was no permanant fix as of yet. They also said that it would be $600.00 per wheel to fix the problem and that it could happen again the next winter. It seems to me that if toyota knows about the problem they should be required to fix it.

My vehicle has intermittently exhibited a failure to accelerate once a day or once every other day for a couple of months. The check engine light would come on and the vehicle would not accelerate until the ignition is turned off and restarted. My mechanic told me the problem might berelated to the throttle body which he replaced with no improvement in performance. He also told me that toyota has issued a tsb related to the fault recorded in the engine computer. P0121 is one of the codes mentioned in the tsb which was also the code recoded in my engine computer, however the tsb does not mention the failure to accelerate. I took my vehicle to the local toyota dealer for further diagnosis. They told me the engine wiring harness needed to be replaced as per the tsb and that the cost would not be covered by toyota because the vehicle has over 58000 miles on it and it was no longer under warranty. I was shocked that toyota would not cover this repair considering the potentially dangerous circumstance one could find themselves in when a vehicle cannot accelerate. To my dismay this repair cost me 1000 dollars and its hard to believe that a 2008 model vehicle would need to have the engine wiring harness replaced.

While driving the car at approximately 10 mph the abs and brake lights came on. At the same time the abs felt like they engaged. After researching the problem online i found out that many users in the us and canada are having the same problem due to faulty abs wheel speed sensors on the wheel hub. Due to the salt on the roads during the winter months, salt can enter the sensor and corrode the terminals. This is due to a poor seal between the connector and the wiring harness. When salt water enters the terminals it causes the abs to act up. This is true for 2007 and 2008 models according to other yaris users. It seems that the problem has been taken care of in 2009 models. But for owners of 2008 and 2007 models problem exists even after replacing the sensor and wiring harness with new ones. This is a major safety concern since the abs system can engage at any time possibly causing an accident and/or injury to the driver and passengers.

When i tried to roll the window down, by clicking on the button, there was a small fire that caused smoke inside the car. I would also like to verify my breaks and airbags.i would like to make an appointment to bring my car in either monday, tuesday, thursday, or friday.

I drive a toyota 2008 yaris (toyota vios here in d philppines)with a little more than 20,000 kms(20,014kms)on d odometer.i noticed an intermittent noise on d front end suspension passenger side.i brought to d dealer for an assessment of the problem, after their assessment toyota told me that there was a problem with the shock absorber and they would replace it.they also said that there was also a problem with the alternator saying that the voltage "isn't up to standard."after a few days i got my vehicle back from toyota.they told me that they replaced the front right shock absorber.i asked them why only one shock absorber was replaced as the usual procedure was that both front shock absorbers should be replaced, the service adviser told that toyota is becoming more strict with warranty policies and the only part that they will replace is the defective part.furthermore the dealer service advisor said if it was up to them they normally always replace both shock absorbers but because of toyota's strict warranty policy they could only replace one shock absorber.this seems to be another instance of toyota cutting corners to save cost at the expense of car safety.i live in manila, philippines and i know that this case of mine isn't in your jurisdiction, i only submit my case to you because i'm concerned that there may yarises there in the us that may have similar problems. Thank you for your time in reading my incident report.

Periodically my abs brake light will comeon during winter weather and then it will just go away when it is dry. On snow roads my brakes sometimes will not work. One day driving i drove through a red light because my brakes would not stop even though i was going around 30 and braked while in advance.lucky, for me other drivers stopped. My mechanic confirmed that my abs wiring has to be replaced and the hub. This is a common issue for yaris and toyota admitted they know this is an issue but they do not have a recall. This could have easily cost my life or my 18 month old son's life.

We drive a 2008 yaris. Because we got it used and the previous driver drove so much, its 3 year/36,000 mile warranty no longer applied, but we got an extended power train warranty. This year, the engine wiring harness broke, and we found out that toyota knew about the faulty harnesses. (the tsb on it mentions replacing it with an "improved" harness.) while toyota describes this as not being a safety issue, we feel otherwise, as the symptom is an immediate loss of power and inability to accelerate, which could be dangerous on the highway. Needless to say, since this part is not being recalled, since in a dbw car, this is not part of the powertrain, and hence, we are not under warranty, toyota required us to pay $1000 to fix this.

The car has shut off several time while sitting at a traffic light. The car has shut down several times while driving. Thankfully no one was injured or hurt.another issues:my current 2008 yaris has only 23,382 miles on it, so the car does not have high mileage. I have installed a total of 2 different aftermarket alarms on the car both by professional businesses one being best buy. The car is currently in the shop because of various electrical components on the car not working. I have read on several websites that this is an issue with the 2008 yaris. I've had to remove the first alarm after 3 months of purchase because i was told the alarm was the issue. The second alarm replacement causes the same problem. Is there an issue with installing aftermarket alarms on the 2008 yaris and what can be done about it?

12/21/09 - abs light and brake light came on.car difficult to brake and making sprung "spring" type noises.rear wheel sensor and wire harness had gone bad - replaced and went out again on 1/25/11.6/8/10 car making funny whirling noises under hood.alternator went bad.

The keys can be removed from the ignition with the engine running.possibility of the keys falling out in an accident and unable to turn off engine.

Our car door panel caught on fire 12/7/2011 . Toyota did and investigation and found the door control switch was at fault ,they replace it at no cost to us .the car filled with smoke ??

Since i buy the car sometimes when i turn ignition on it makes the noise that is starting all lights on the dashboard turn on for a almost a 20 to 30 sec. Then sometimes when i'm driving the speed gear drops with out me braking also when i turn right signal on sometimes the reverse light on dashboard also turn on. One time all lights on dashboard were blinking went i turn signal on. I took it to the dealer the person there told me they don't have any recalls and no complain then can't do anything if they don't see the problem. I have a video this. Now when i hit the brake the right signal canes on. Second time i took the car to the dealer the ignition call had a failure they replace coil 3 and dashboard lights diagnostic came normal and vehicle lights still do the samething. And ignition still does the samething and if i go back to the dealer to do another diagnostic they will charge me 124 dollars if nothing is found wrong. The problem is there but they can't find it i show the video to the guy in the dealer and still nothing.

I was driving my yaris and attempted to pass another vehicle on a 4-lane road.i pressed on the accelerator pedal as i entered the left lane and nothing happened.the pedal went halfway down, but the engine did not respond.as i quickly tried to decide what to do as a car in the left lane behind me came up fast, the engine responded unexpectedly and i surged forward. The next time i depressed the pedal, it responded normally at the top of its travel.however, it happened again about 3 weeks later when i was stopped at a red light.the light changed and i pressed on the accelerator.again, no response.this happened on and off until last week when it started to become more common than the normal response.since i didn't want to pay toyota for an expensive fix only a few thousand miles after my warranty ran out, i resolved to get used to it. I adjusted my actions so i didn't expect an immediate response from the car until the pedal got part way down to the floor and, though i'm sure it affected my gas mileage, i could deal with it.then yesterday, as i pulled into my garage, the pedal response suddenly went back to normal and i almost went through the back of the garage. I bought this car (and one for my wife as well)because of toyota's reputation for reliability and its fuel economy.now i don't know what to expect. I have read that lexus owners have reported the same problem.this is annoying, reduces gas mileage, and could be very dangerous.

Our daughter was driving on highway 44 in missouri at or near grey summit missouri with the cruise control set on, when our 2008 toyota yaris started to accelerate on it's own.our daughter had to swerve to miss hitting other vehicle on the highway.she attempted to stop and the cruise control did not disengage.to avoid hitting another vehicle she steered the vehicle off the highway and crashed head on into trees.toyota hired bosch to have the "black box" analyzed.the company and bosch claim no malfunction of the vehicle.our daughter continues to dispute their claims and we have lost the vehicle in an insurance claim to aaa of missouri.in additional we have lost value in the vehicle, we are paying insurance accident penalties and lost $1000 in deductibles.we continue to dispute toyota and bosch's claim that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle.since our accident there has been additional evidence of "tin whiskers" as potential cause of electronic failure.we believe we have been the unfortunate victims of toyota negligence and need torequest assistance in fighting this issue with toyota.

Vehicles emergency brake light and abs light continued to come on.vehicle was taken to the toyota dealer and we were told that the rear wiring harness and sensors had completed eroded and that until this problem was repaired the vehicle had no working abs system or traction stability control.we were advised that toyota is aware of the problem but has still not done a recall.this to me is definitely a safety issued that should be addressed.the dealer did state that the reason the wiring harness had eroded was because the actual harness is open on the bottom allowing moisture to get into the harness area.the cost for this repair is over $750.

In the past 8-9 months i have had 2 sets ( of 4) tire sensors replaced. All of thishappened while driving.it will first blink then display a solid blue line. The first and second timethesensors showed they were not connecting to the tires. Today the light blinked, then went to a solid blue within a few seconds. I had to drive over 50-60 miles to get to the big o store.i stopped to make sure there was enough air in the tires to drive the 50-60miles. One tire was 2 pounds lower then the other three. The low tire was increased to match the other three and i continued to the big o store in cortez, co.it turned out that i was driving appx 2 hours when the solid blue light suddenly turned off. 15ish miles later the light blinked for 2-3. Miles and then went solid again. At this point i was appx 2 miles from the store. Once at the store, the tires were check and all pressures had remained the same. The sensors were checked and they were all connecting and working. I hear that altitude(6500-7000 ft) and temperature can affect the sensors (it was between 29 to 31 degree f.) i was driving on mountainous semi- winding clear roads between durango and cortez co. This happened between 11:30am-2:30pm. I was driving between 35-65- mph ( from manco to durango to cortez, co i am getting ready to drive down to albuquerque ( 3.5- 4 hrs) on many 2 lane roads and don't want to experience any car problems on roads with no place to pull off. My engine is making a rattling noise while driving and while parked. I was originally told the noise was probably my exhaust system but was later on told that i would need to replace the engine. This vehicle only has 138,000 miles on it and maintenance has been done only at dealerships. The rattling noise is either rods that need to be repaced or a timing chain.

I have a light on my dash that looks like an engine. Had the car tested and it shows that it is a little module type deal that has had to do with fuel evaporation or something on that line. Sounds like they are notorious for going bad. Its like a $300 part.

While driving at approximately 55 mph the vehicle stalled.upon restart it operated normally.the failure began to recur intermittently while driving at any speed as well as while stopped.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where he was informed the wiring harness for the mass o2 sensor needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired and the failure continued to recur.the failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 48,000.the vin was unavailable.

The charcoal canister assembly had to be replaced which is part of the evaporative emission control system.the cost was $996.00.

12/21/09 - abs light and brake light came on.car difficult to brake and making sprung "spring" type noises.rear wheel sensor and wire harness had gone bad - replaced and went out again on 1/25/11.6/8/10 car making funny whirling noises under hood.alternator went bad.

Stopped to place a fast food order-moved up to pay-truck in front waiting to pay-had foot on break--car lunged forward and hit the truck in front-the engine revved up while i had my footon the break-i even pushed down harder on the break.

I bought the car on march of 2008 (toyota yaris sport 4dr sedan) as brand new. Note - brand new. After driving around for 4 months, my air conditioning smells like vinegar everytime i turn it on. Later on, the smell worsen; it smells like rotten vomit. I went to the dealership and they said they smelled nothing. I was confused. After the dealership, the smell remains the same. After 5 months of driving, one day when i was at school, i was walking to my car and got in (it was a hot day) i turned on the ac and it barely blow air. Mention air; its not cold. I was really upset since it is a brand new car and i'm starting to have problems with it. I went to toyota dealership and address the problem to them. Took me 4 hours for them just to install a little part in the car which costsdollars and for labor costing 344 dollars on the warranty. I think that's insane. After it has been repaired, it was time for my oil change. I went to get my oil change done, the mechanic mentioned there's something wrong with my ac. He showed me the cabin air filter and it was completely black. Had to paid more for a new one. Also the back trunk cover was repainted without my knowledge( the 3rd party told me my trunk was repainted). I also addressed that to toyota and they said i needed to replace my cabin air filter next month and the trunk was brand new as is. I was really upset and started to think - did i buy a brand new lemon?!

A chronic problem with water not draining from the a/c condensor owing to a design flaw which causes the water to drain into the passengers side floor.taken to dealer once, but problem remains same.

During oil change i decided to look for any oil leaks and discovered oil down on the back of the engine to the oil pan.dealership put dye in engine.confirmed head gasket leak.head gasket was replaced by dealer.that same day, i looked at our other vehicle same model different year 2010.i noticed the same oil leak.since then, i have looked at three other 2010 yaris and found the same oil leak from the #1 cylinder of the head cylinder gasket.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota yaris. When the contact started the vehicle, an abnormal noise emitted from the engine. The failure occurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician advised the contact that the water pump and the engine belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota yaris. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle stalled. The vehicle had run out of fuel but the fuel level gauge displayed that the fuel tank was full. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised the contact to refill the fuel tank whenever it reached one half empty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000. The vin was unavailable.

When filling car with gas, it always overflows. This car can not be filled without gas overflowing onto the side of the car and onto the ground.

On 1/29/11 i ran out of gas when the fuel gauge showed that i had 1/8 of a tank.the dealer said that he fuel sending device had to be replaced on my 2008 toyota yaris. I was told by the dealer that"this happens on yarises a lot'". If this is happening so much why isn't the part being recalled? it is not safe to run out of gas unexpectedly, especially in the middle of the street or freeway.

After washing the underside of the car, the cel came on. Five p codes came up on scanner. The dealer told me that water got into the charcoal canister and that i would have to replace it along with other related parts total cost to me $1027.83 which includes nys tax not including labor charge. Toyota has corrected this problem on the newer models but mine was beyond the warranty even though they admit to a defect. Included in the parts list is some sort of water deflectorso that this will not happen again. Toyota said that there has not been enough complaints to warrant a recall. I live in upstate new york where salt is used on the roads and it is advisable to wash under the vehicle. Also, it does rain on occasion and water is splashed up under the car. I now have 57000 miles on the car with no chance of passing inspection. I was told that in the event of a recall, i could be entitled to a refund. I think that most people would not bother to lodge a complaint so no chance of a recall.

Iwas driving to work one morning and my car stopped out of nowhere and it wouldn't start again. I called a tow truck to take it to a repair center just to find that i had no gas eventhough the dash indicated i still had a little less than half a tank of gas . I was informed that i could either buy a new gas tank which would cost a lot or keep track if the miles and fill the gas tank accordingly. I was about to get on the freeway if this would if happened there it could of caused a major accident. I was also told at the repair center that this is common in yaris after doing some research and going on to forums myselfi found many yaris owners have gone through this.

Driving vehicle on city streets, and attempted to brake.brake and abs came on, and abs system engaged.road conditions were dry, weather was warm and sunny.abs engagement made it difficult to come to complete stop, even though road conditions were dry.since initial incident, abs system comes on periodically while driving and while braking.toyota has denied any responsibility for repairs, even though this is a known issue that numerous yaris owners have experienced.later models for the yaris have had the abs design fixed to prevent this issue from happening.

My car was spinning in circles on the icey freeway after i applied the brakes to avoid a car fender in the middle of the road.the car stopped short of the guard rail, then all of a sudden it took off and began spinning toward the other side of the freeway.the back end of my car hit the guard rail.

After waiting in traffic, having come to a stop or inching forward, as in waiting to make a left turn, the car dies when gas is applied to move forward.more difficult if on an incline.feels as if the car might die.backing up on an incline when going slowly trying not to run into for instance the garage, frequently stalls or dies completely.cannot predict when this will happen, but happens two to three times per week.no accident has occurred, but could because of need to move quickly in traffic.i have taken the car to two different dealers to see if they could adjust the idle or the clutch.they said that everything was factory adjusted and that to check the clutch would require considerable labor to get at it and the warranty might not cover it if nothing was found.basically the dealerships said thatis the way the car is, that the range for clutch engagement or not engagement was very small and that it was a matter of coordinating the clutch and gas.i thought perhaps this was it at first, but i have had the car for 11 months, and i haven't been able to figure out how to avoid this situation predictably.the car also died when a friend drove it.i have driven stick shift most of my life and that is about 40 years.i don't feel that i can count on this car to move quickly or move at all when in first gear.this has occurred 3 or 4 times every week since buying the car in oct of 2007.i don't drive the car every day.currently there is less than 10,000 miles on the car.

I was going 15-20 mph on on ramp to the freeway and accidentally veered right hitting the guard rail on the right front side of the car. None of the airbags deployed and my seatbelt did not lock, resulting in my face hitting the steering wheel, breaking my nose and cutting my lip.

The brake and abs lights came on simultaneously.they intermittently came on for the first day and for the last few weeks they have stayed on.i was told by a mechanic that it is likely a corroded sensor.apparently this has been an issue for many of the yaris per internet research.i can't afford the repair right now and have new brake pads that i was told by the mechanic are fine, but i'm not sure if i should continue driving it based on reports of accidents by other owners.this seems like a premature failure and safety issue that should be addressed by toyota given the number of owners that have had the complaint.the alternator also needed repaired at about 45000 miles, which shouldn't have happened at that mileage, but a bad alternator doesn't necessarily cause the same safety issues as malfunctioning brakes.this is my third toyota and my last.

Frequently when driving in this car and i attempt to press on brakes it takes a bit longer than it should for a reaction to occur . Which is very dangerous in certain weather conditions which i was affected in having to press on brakes which led to slamming on brakes and still not the appropriate reaction time causing me to slam in another caron a a slippery intersection which is when i finally able to hear my brakes basically touch the ground . With the failure of reliance on my brakes the front end of my car in completely destroyed which now caused my driver door to no longer open.

I was hospitalized for a few days for hand, foot, and back injuries, and still under doctor's care for the injuries.in addition, the vehicle was a total lost.i have my service receipts reflecting that i kept up with the maintenance of the car.in addition, i had the brakes serviced in october of the previous year...updated 03/15/16 .....updated 03/31/16 updated 6/11/18

I have had numerous problems with this vehicle since just after the warranty expired. Toyota refuses to acknowledge or repair anything. I have replaced rear shocks, front wheel bearings, and now am having issues with the abs system. It seems the entire underside of the vehicle needs replacement. The problems began less than 2 months after the 3 year warranty expired. At that time, the car had only 40,000 miles on it. The only response toyota provided was "sorry, your warranty has expired." all mechanics i have discussed these issues with agree that such repairs should not be necessary on a vehicle with such low mileage. This car has not been abused or driven hard. It has had all maintenance done as suggested by it manufacturer. These issues should be taken care of by toyota as warranty repairs since they are all obvious manufacturer defects. This is the one and only toyota i will ever own.

The abs and brake light have been lighting up intermittently. The dealership said no codes show stored. I saw history of this complaint with sensor issues. Lights did not go on day of appointment. But did come on in the way home.

When i tried to roll the window down, by clicking on the button, there was a small fire that caused smoke inside the car. I would also like to verify my breaks and airbags.i would like to make an appointment to bring my car in either monday, tuesday, thursday, or friday.

In the winter months since i bought my car brand new, randomly the abs would just go off during normal braking and then stop working all together and the abs and the e-brake light would come on for a while. When i was driving home one morning i was coming up to a red light when the abs decided to stop working and i slid right through the light, almost getting hit by on coming traffic. Now i had dismissed the problem till i realized that it could cause harm to me or my children and the abs and e-brake light will no longer go off which is causing me to fail emissions.

On january 18th 2014 , while exiting hwy 41 on to the ashland avenue off ramp in fresnocalifornia the brakes failed and the vehicle was totaled.

When using the cruise control and going up a hill, abs light and brake light comes on. Now it does it even without cruise control on. Those lights come on when you start the car. The brakes and fluids have all been check and there is no defaults with any of that.

The abs and brake warning lights came on at the same time and have remained on. Internet research has revealed that this is a known problem with the 2008 toyota yaris due to corrosion of the rear sensor and harness.abs is now inoperable and the repair is very costly.this should have been a recall long ago by toyota.

My brake light and abs light come on and go off every few days, my anti lock brakes disable and some times it's hard to slow down. It's the sensor, it started in the winter.

On going problem with 2008 toyota yaris model 2 door sedanbought brand new 2008 toyota yaris in july 2008. When trying to apply break to slow down the vehicle going downhill, the engine/transmission starts to roar as if it won't slow down. Reported the issue to the dealer who were able to duplicate the problem but could not find the cause. And the dealer said it was normal. I have driven other vehicles many many years but never had such problem. Scary of driving this vehicle - especially going downhill!is it another toyota defect?

My abs and brake warning lights came on at the same time on my 2008 yaris sedan. The manual states to contact the dealer immediately in this situation. The abs is disabled in this situation. The problem was a left rear wheel speed sensor shorted (code p0215). Due to excessive corrosion on the connection the wiring harness was also replaced. The replaced parts were 89544-02070 (sensor, skid control) and 89516-52100 (wire, skid control). The car was less than a year old with 12,465 miles at the time. The amount of corrosion on the sensor and connecting wires on the yaris point to a potential design issue. A car that is less than a year old should not have these issues.

Rear abs speed sensors corrode and malfunctioned causing the "brake" and "abs" lights display on the instrument cluster, thus minimizing braking efficiency while driving. Internet full of customers with similar problems on toyota yaris cars.

Stopped to place a fast food order-moved up to pay-truck in front waiting to pay-had foot on break--car lunged forward and hit the truck in front-the engine revved up while i had my footon the break-i even pushed down harder on the break.

12/21/09 - abs light and brake light came on.car difficult to brake and making sprung "spring" type noises.rear wheel sensor and wire harness had gone bad - replaced and went out again on 1/25/11.6/8/10 car making funny whirling noises under hood.alternator went bad.

Brakes locked up on my 2008 toyota yarius and it skidded me 67' 9" into the back end of another vehicle.the skid marks were solid. I have had mechanics tell me that the brakes locked up and they should not have and it will speed you up, which caused me to hit this vehicle not once but twice.i filed a complaint with toyota and they sent out a subject to check the brakes, i then received a letter stating all the tests are fine.well my insurance company had the vehicle towed to dealership who advised them that you can not do the proper test, without towing it to a certified toyota dealership and put it on their computer.well i tried to get toyota to tell me if this man pulled up in his truck and pulled out this computer, however now toyota won't talk to me.my insurance has had one of their inspectors to come and look over the vehicle, which he explained to me since it has been several months that the black box may have lost the information that is stored in it, i have not heard from them yet.i know this was a vehicle malfunction, i first called toyota to file a complaint when a toyota service manager advised me to do so!!in fact the toyota rep was the first one to ask me if i wanted compensated for this and if i come up with a figure to call him back which i did and he gave me the runaround.i wrote a letter to toyota and haven't heard anything else from them.i know for a fact this was not my fault, this was the first accident i have ever had, and its ruined me.i work two jobs and all i wanted was a car i could trust, this was my fourth toyota and it will be my last.i have pictures of the skid marks, my vehicle.i was sued by the lady i hit lawyer.i know how i drive and i know that this wasn't my fault, the brakes malfunctioned and they need to admit it, and to take care of it.i found a website on toyota yarius which had numerous complaints about brakes locking up on their vehicles and the near misses they had, well i wrecked and it was bad.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota yaris. The contact stated the anti lock brake system light was illuminating on the instrument panel. The contact examined the vehicle and noticed the anti lock brake sensor was corroded. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 32,000. The vin was unavailable.

Vehicle in front of me stopped. I applied brakes and the car did not stop as usual, it just slid. I attempted to avoid the vehicle and rolled over. The airbags did not deploy and i was slammed into the steering wheel and against the door. Causing chest pain and shoulder pain.

I own a 2008 toyota yaris, and after 3 years i'm now experiencing a problem with the abs sensors. This is a standard safety feature that i had to pay for since it is not included in the base model. I did some research and found out that many yaris owners from canada and us are having the same issue with the same sensors and seem to have started with the 2006 models and so on. I'm including the link of the forum listed below as proof of other yaris owners having the same issue. I'm sure that there are other people not on this forum experiencing the same problem and are not accounted for. This is a safety concern that i feel should be recalled. To get this fixed, it costs more than adding the feature itself when purchasing the vehicle. I'm expressing my concern because i feel that this is an important safety concern that all yaris owners, whether having the problem or not should be aware of. Hopefully something can be done. Bought car with 99k miles. Noted a clunk in suspension. Decided to fix by process of elimination. Turned out it was a broken bolt that holds the control arm inside the subframe which is not accessible from the exterior. Steering was very off and this was a very dangerous issue that is clearly a defect from the manufacturer: the front subframe was poorly designed and the inner bolt that holds the long horizontal control arm bolt was improperly welded or the inner sub frame was made so water could get in and rust said bold/weld.

Energy level in battery was sufficient to startyarisbut insufficient to keep/get the electric power steering motor to operate correctly. Result: my 80 year old wife was able to get out parking lot but after she tried to make right hand turn she ended up in oncoming traffic lane, fortunately 2 carswere able to swirl to their right hand side, hence collision was avoided. Alternator must have kick in because power steering started to work again. Event occurred in mexico.

Purchased 2008 toyota yaris sedan used in 7/09 for my daughter with 16,000 miles on it. She's at college so i drive it every other day to work which is only 10 miles. I began to notice a sound when i made a sharp right hand turn into a parking spot like the noise of an actual bar and also a rattle if i went over a small dip in the road. I was told it needed new tires on 10/12/12 @ 29,645 miles, i bought good, safe tires:goodyear eagle ls tires 185/60r15. On 5/10/13 i had her car serviced at toyota: oil change, tires rotated, inspection of air filter, ball joints, etc. Afterwards, as i was driving my daughter and i up to my son's college graduation it was 80 degrees/sunny/clear roads. 52 miles into our trip i was in the slow lane following traffic at 65 mph.watching the road, both hands on the steering wheel. All of a sudden the steering wheel jerked to the left and we began to go into a skid.i was avoiding other cars as i was trying to regain control of the yaris. It was buckling under me each time i tried to carefully get us out of the skids.my foot was not on the brake but i had carefully pulled it off of the accelerator and i remember thinking why wasn't the car slowing down, it just kept skidding. After the 4th skid it went into a complete 180 degree spin with us slamming into the cement median.i slammed on the brakes as we went toward the wall. I have been driving for 35 yrs with no accidents and i have been in skids before, on icy roads & regained control. I do not know what caused the steering to malfunction. I have read about faulty bolts on the control arm. The auto repair shop did tell me they replaced the stabilizer bar.i have noticed since the repair the noise under the car is gone and the throttle no longer "screams" when i take my foot off the gas going downhills. We were not speeding, nor driving carelessly. This car does not have abs nor anti-spin brakes.

My 4 year old 2008 toyota yaris with approximately 57,000 miles started making a clunking/banging sound when i would travel over small bumps or brake slowly. I took the car to my mechanic who looked at it and told me that i should take it to the toyota dealer for repairs. He told me that a bolt holding the passenger lower suspension arm to the frame had corroded and sheared off. He said that if i continued driving it the entire passenger side suspension and wheel would likely break away from the car.he showed me a repair bulletin that toyota had produced detailing the problem and stated that they should take care of it because it was an obvious manufacturing defect and since failure of that bolt could lead to a catastrophic accident. I took my car to the dealership and they looked up the bulletin and showed me that this problem was only covered as part of the basic 3 year warranty. I would be responsible for paying for the repair myself. When i picked up my car from the dealership they handed me what was left of the bolt they replaced and the other bolt that held the control arm in place.both bolts were badly corroded and had been replaced with new bolts that the service manager told me were a different part number and were corrosion resistant.toyota obviously knows that this is a problem because they are using different parts than the cars were shipped with from the factory.the toyota service manager told me to keep my receipt because he expects this to be a recall issue and told me that i will be reimbursed when it is recalled. Please force toyota to recall these vehicles before someone loses the front end of their car and their life because of a poorly constructed $5 bolt.

While driving my 2009 toyota yaris, i was burned by a hot beverage when the driver's side cup holder became loose and caused the cup to become unstable, spilling the contents on myself and car.the cup holders are located in a position that puts front seat passengers at risk of injury because of their location. In a collision or abrupt stop, consumers are at risk of serious injury. I am especially concerned for children because of what i experienced. I hope toyota will fix this flaw and eliminate this safety hazard for consumers. I received medical treatment and contacted toyota, yet the problem has not been resolved. I have always been a happy customer with the car until this incident.

2008 toyota yaris. Consumer writes in regards to unusual headlight system. The consumer stated when the vehicle was turned on, with the headlights turned off, the instrument panel brightly lit up. When the headlights were turned on, the instrument panel went dim. The consumer stated it was backwards and it was of poor design. During dusk, the driver needed to know the lights were on, and a dark instrument panel indicated the headlights were not on.

The clear coat has begun to come off. It began on the roof, and is now peeling around the doors. The paint is now exposed to all weather conditions, and is beginning to fade.

2008 toyota yaris hatchback s recall is for the weight capacity sticker.april 11, 2009 my fiancee was driving the car with four other passengers including myself.thecar ended up sliding sidewards at less than 10 mph and came to rest at an angle on the guard rail. The front passenger side bumper, outside door, back quarter panel and rims were scratched and dented.i believe that this incident was caused due to the weight capacity limit on the tire size, which was incorrectly labeled by toyota.

I was driving southbound on 127 in glencoe kentucky and a deer ran out in front of me almost totaling my whole driver side of my car my air bag never deployed it was a hard hit i could have been hurt if i wasn't wearing my seat belt just getting whiplash.my headlight fender my front number my grille both of my doors and my mirror have to be replaced if possiblei want to talk to someone i seen on here that my car has 2 open recalls in my car and i want them fixed as soon as my car gets done being fixed from the shop. I am very unhappy with this car i'm lucky my 2 year old wasn't hurt.

Our car door panel caught on fire 12/7/2011 . Toyota did and investigation and found the door control switch was at fault ,they replace it at no cost to us .the car filled with smoke ??

I was driving below the 30mph speed limit along a city street and heard a loud grinding noise from rear right of the car. I immediately pulled over to the side of the street and saw that the back right rear corner of the car was down close to the wheel.the exhaust pipe was in its usual place. I called a towing company and they flatbedded me to toyota in santa fe, nm at 5pm on a saturday evening. When we arrived at toyota the tow truck driver handed me the large spring which had fallen off the car.toyota replaced the missing upper insulation disc and put the rear right spring back in place and i drove 5 hours home. The insulation disc could have fallen out onto the street and i did not know to look for it.the rear springs can easily be levered out of place with a screwdriver so my car mechanic attached the bottom of the spring to the cradle it sits on and welded a guard to the cradle so that the springs cannot jump out.i was fortunate to be driving slowly on a city street instead fast on the interstate when this happened.i have filed a report with toyota so they can fix this, in my opinion, design flaw.

The rear axle broke at the weld. Driving under normal spped and driving conditions, i noticed a strange rubbing sould coming from the rear of the vehicle after i got home i noticed the clearance on rear wheel at top was much less then other side, after taking to shop i was then informed of the cracked/broken axle.when i researched there were others who's car's had rear axle's that were breaking at the welds around the same years 2007-2009 this could bea potentially deadly

Heard a banging sound from the front passenger side, came to find one of 3 control arm bolts had rusted out. The dealership replaced both sides for preventative measures.

Broken bolt on lower control arm / only 90000 miles driven to work only / not abused

I am a retired autoshop teacher {2 years} and am ase certified in, among others, suspension and steering. While driving my yaris, started to hear a clunking noise in the front suspension. Suddenly, a loud bang while something broke off the car and hit the underbody. On inspection, discovered that the right side lower control arm rearward bolt, which extends through a center support and is bolted to the vehicle body, had snapped off about halfway. I drove the car home, about 3 miles, but the driveability of the vehicle was affected, the steering became vague and the noise became louder and louder. There is a tsb, number 005-11 on this problem but toyota fails to admit in this or earlier tsbs that this is a serious safety problem, which in my opinion, it clearly is. This is not an unusual problem, as an internet search found many people had experienced this. This should be addressed in a recall!

I had bad experience with toyota yaris 2008. I was driving on interstate highway 264 east at 70miles/hr on cruise control. Suddenly the car started jumping left and right. I tried to control the steering but nothing happened. Another car was coming from my right side so in order to save that car i slightly turned the steering to left. My car started spinning and went off the road & after3-4 spins i could finally stop the car. The dealer and service people could not find the reason for it. While my car was spinning my two tires got punctured and one rim broke. I am scared to drive this car. Toyota customer service also could not help me in this and all the expense[$ 500] has come on me only. Everybody is washing their hands off.nobody knows what went wrong in the car.

When using the cruise control and going up a hill, abs light and brake light comes on. Now it does it even without cruise control on. Those lights come on when you start the car. The brakes and fluids have all been check and there is no defaults with any of that.

My brake light and abs light come on and go off every few days, my anti lock brakes disable and some times it's hard to slow down. It's the sensor, it started in the winter.

I was less than five minutes from home, on my way to take my children to school.i made a right hand turn off the street from my neighborhood, unto the service road that leads to the ramp for the highway entrance. As i headed towards the ramp that enters unto the highway, the 2008 toyota yaris felt like it suddenly started to accelerate.despite my foot was on the brakes, the car would not slow down.i swerved back unto the service road to avoid continuing unto the ramp, in fear that i would crash into the cars on the highway.to avoid hitting any vehicles on the service road, i managed to swerve the vehicle off the side of the road ? with the car finally stopping when it crashed into a pole.my children and i suffered seat belt bruising and cuts.

Accelerator petal sticking, i took my foot away from the gas pedal in preparation for my turn, but the pedal became stuck and continued to accelerate i had to depress brakes to stop car and gas pedal released. Updated 02/04/10.

2008 toyota yaris 4 door, the left wiper is about 26 inches and the right is 16, thke defroster is in the center and only covers the left wiper and has no effect on the right wiper.when traveling down the highway in snowy conditions the right wiper will ice up and attach itself to the windshield, therefore making the left one not work either.the only thing to do is to pull over and clear it but that is also and and issue on the highway in the snow or ride it to an exit to clear it with absolutely no visibility.if the windshield had a heated strip at the bottom or they redesigned the dash board to cover the left wiper.this is the first snow storm i have driven in and by the looks will not be the last.i am currently trying to work with the toyota dealership and have pictures of what happens on my sons phone to share.i have driven vehicles with limited visibility and have driven trucks for many years.if this was to happen to an inexperienced driver or one that does not handle things well it could have bad outcomes.i am writing this to make you aware of the problem and to make a record of for a history.
