Takata recall, this is my only vehicle and i am very fearful to operate this vehicle with the literature about how this airbag could explode sending shrapnel randomly through the cab.i live in hawaii and i understand that in hot and humid environments the risk of this happening is greatly increased.i am upset that there is still no remedy and nothing is being offered to us in compensation for this safety hazard.i don't feel that turning my already small car into a 3 seater (recall recommends that no one sit beside the driver) is a solution.we have all seen how random coffee grounds scatter in the counter, shrapnel would behave in the same way..so as a driver of this vehicle, i am risking my life even with a small fender bender, or perhaps even without a collision this airbag could spontaneously explode due to the hot/humid conditions.

A red light appeared on my dashboard in my 2008 yaris, brought it to the dealer, they said the airbag on the driver side was not working. There is absolutely no reason for this air bag to stop working. There has been no accident of any kind etc. That would cause this. The toyota, the dealer asked if i beeped the horn hard, i said no.they could offer no explanation for the defective air bag, and said the charge would be 500.00 to repair.this air bag that is not working, is a safety hazard for medriving this vehicle.i should not have to pay to have the airbag repaired, since it is defective, toyota needs to be responsible for this defective air bag, this is a serious safety issue.please address this serious safety issue for the yaris air bag, the yaris is a very compact, small vehicle and any crash will be fatal without this airbag.

The contact owns a owns a 2008 toyota yaris.the contact received a notification for recall nhtsa campaign id number: 14v168000 (air bags) and nhtsa campaign id number 14v169000 (seats). However, the parts were unavailable to service the vehicle under the recall.the dealer was uncertain when the parts would become available.the manufacturer was notified of the problem and stated that the parts could be available at the end of september, but it was not guaranteed.the contact had not experienced a failure.

When the ignition turns on the car passes the initial safety checks. But when driving after 5 miles per hour the " warning light that the driver side air bag has failed " comes on.

Air bag light continues to remain illuminated after vehicle is started.

Takata recallthankfully, no incident yet. Received interim recall notice in may 2016, stating they would send another notice when the remedy had been prepared. Six months later, it has not. Conveniently, toyota absolves themselves of responsibility by stating: "until the remedy becomes available, we recommend that you do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat."this is not a reasonable remedy for such a long time period, and my circumstances are such that my wife and i have no alternative but to continue driving our only car, with cargo in the back and passengers in the front.most disturbing to me is the fact that it is only the front passenger airbag implicated in the recall. If the driver's side airbags have the same problem, would toyota advise me not to operate the vehicle with an occupant in the driver's seat? no, because then the car would be completely non-operable, and toyota would have a much greater liability to provide replacement vehicles, right? have they just done the math and concluded it's better to settle driver side bags fatalities in court than to replace all those faulty airbags?i do not feel safe driving my own car, and i do not feel satisfied with toyota's delayed response to this life-threatening defect.here's a simple suggestion: if they can't replace 50,000,000 airbags all at once, why not disable the airbags until such time as it won't shoot metal shards into people's faces? this should be a standard feature available in all cars with the turn of a key.

2008 toyota yaris.consumer writes in regards to remedy not available to repair front passenger airbag defect recall notice in reasonable time frame.

I was involved in an accident on april 4, 2014 at approx 2130. My toyota yaris hit a pole at about 35-40 mph. And the airbags did not deploy. This was a straight on hit. !....updated 07/31/14

The contact owns a 2008 toyota yaris h/b. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v340000 (air bags). However the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

Takata recall, it has been about a year, maybe more, since i got the first flyer to have my air bag replaced. I have got more over the months. Every time, i call in and try to arrange an appointment i am told that they are going out in waves and that i will be notified when i can get this potentially lethal air bag replaced. Then more time goes by i get another flyer and the same thing over and over again, with no resolution. I find it a bit unsettling that that process would take this long and leave customers stuck with potentially deadly vehicles.

Takata recall issued 01/09/2017. No notification received from toyota as of 02/17/2017.learned of recall from nhtsa website, not from toyota.

I was owner of a toyota yaris 2008, when the takata airbags were subject to a recall. I writting beceause i received an mail about the class action settlement.

My airbag light came on,and hasn't turned off for longer than a minute in the past couple of months. Brought it to repair shop, was told airbag won't work with light on.i was told it was most likely the clock spring.noticed on multiple forums people have the same complaint.not sure if i want to replace it with a genuine toyota part if this is going to happen again in a few years.

Airbag light came on and has not turned off.initially it would be intermittent, now it's continous.

My car's airbag is part of the recall (nhtsa recall #16v340) but neither toyota nor takata has contacted me

On 12/19/2009 i was in a car accident on the northern state parkway i hit the guard rail cement divider at 40 miles an hour. My air bags did not deploy. My abs brakes failed to stop the car in a snow storm. My seat belt did not work correctly.again with the same car on 10/7/2010 a woman stopped short and completely stopped in front of me. I slammed directly head on into her while at 30 miles an hour. Again myair bags did not deploy and my seatbelt failed to retract. Again attempting to brake i went into the suv.

During the past several winters the brake and abs warning lights have come on when driving during wet snowy/slushy conditions. The condition would fix itself after the vehicle dried out. This started after 30k miles/2 years of ownership. This winter (2013) the warning lights lit up and stayed lit. Took it to the dealer and they said it requires a new wheel speed sensor and wiring harness. Research online has shown multiple instances of this failure in 2007-2008 yaris'. Toyota has issued a tsb concerning this matter. (tsb number: tsb-0120-08). This is a known failure that happens at one of the times that the abs system is needed the most. This is a safety issue and should be a manufacturer recall.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota yaris h/b. While at a stop sign, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 134,000.

In april of 2010 i was driving down the highway when my depressed gas pedal went to the floorboard with no acceleration and the check engine light came on. I was able to merge into the emergency lane and after turning the ignition off and back on it resolved itself. This happened several more times over the following week in various locations at various speeds. I took the car to the toyota dealership i had purchased it at just 2 years prior & was told that i needed an updated engine harness. Since my car was 2000 miles out of standard warranty & electrical issues are not covered by powertrain warranty this repair was to cost me $1200. A mechanic friend of mine went to the dealership & asked why this was not a recall since a 2-year old vehicle should not require such repairs & how he may go about obtaining the part to save some cost to me. He was told that there were not enough issues for this to be considered for recall & that the part could only be purchased through the manufacturer an &placed by the dealership. Since the money was not available, i chose to not have it replaced at that time.. In the 2 years since the problem was diagnosed i was only noticing this problem about once every 3-4 months. Then this week all of a sudden it began again & has been a consistent problem on a daily basis. Not only does this happen multiple times per day but it takes several attempts at shutting the engine off & restarting before it resolves & will repeat immediately after putting the car in gear. I have been stuck in intersections, pulling out of parking lots, & on the highway & do not understand why this is not considered a severe safety issue. After contacting the dealership once again i was told to bring it back in for another diagnostic for which they are going to charge $85. I feel this is ridiculous and only bought this car because of toyota's reputation.

I had an accident on december 22, 2010 i called my insurance company and they send me to the hospital and the vehicle to the ford dealership in brownsville, tx for the reason that is the only dealership with a body shop department, the took longer than expected to fix the vehicle and they refused to provide with a rental vehicle, the first time i picked up the vehicle i was not satisfied, the seat belts on the driver side were not working and the door was not closing properly, the open door light was always "on"the dashboard, they again refused to provide a rental vehicle, the second time i picked up the vehicle on february of 2011, they changed the gas gage and did not replaced the gas tank. The gas tank was a 10 gallon tank and now is only a 8 gallon tank, and i'm sure they charged my insurance company for it. This put me at risk, i can not drive long distance on a 8 gallon tank, this is a security issue and overall this situation puts me under a lot of stress, i was considering sell this car to get a new one, but the value will decrease for the fact that the vehicle does not have a 10 gallon gas tank. After the accident and all the problems i went thru i was under depression and i even had to resign to my job, my emotional depression will not allow me to focus on work . For all this reasons i will like for you to review my case and help me. I had a terrible experience with ford and with the service provided and i will like for them to compensate me for all the time, money and emotional distress they caused me.

Traveling on freeway at 60 mph when engine stopped. This created a significant hazard as i had to cross four lanes of heavy traffic to get to the shoulder with no power. After tow, it was originally diagnosed as a failed fuel pump. It was subsequently discovered that, though the gas gauge read 1/3 full, the tank was actually empty. The dealership had to remove the gas tank to replace the faulty fuel sensor.

When driving and shifting manual powertrain sometime will not go into gear.when parked transmission can be shifted from gear to neutral without depression of the clutch.has done that since was delivered but dealer said it was normal.

In january of 2011 the red hydraulic brake light and the yellow abs lights began to illuminate intermittently.when the lights were on the abs did not operate on slippery roads.within two weeks the lights illuminated constantly.i brought the car to the dealership where the diagnostics indicated codes c0210 and c1238 requiring both rear speed sensors and associated wiring harnesses.the problem will not be repaired until the dealer/toyota agree to comp the repair due to the service bulletins and number of consumer complaints on this issue. No accidentsor injuries but it is necessary to be very cautious on wet/slippery roads.

There is a dead spot in the power steering when going straight.when you correct to maintain lane, the power steering "kicks in" and the car does a slight jerking motion in the direction of the turn.at 65 mph on the highway, it becomes a job to maintain a lane on the highway.my dealership has had the car for almost a week and they know what it is doing, but they do not think there is a fix for it, nor do they see it as different from other vehicles.i have had the car since it came ordered directly from toyota.i am the one that has put the 83000 miles on it.and there is defiantly a issues showing up with the electric assist power steering.maybe thru long term wear and tear, but it is getting worse.

The car started making a clucking sound on the pass side when the brake was applied . I inspected the vehicle and found the front r/s lower control arm vertical bolt had rotted out and snapped off. I went to toyota and purchased two new updated bolts ( toyota has a bulletin out for this defect )i drilled out the old bolt and tried to remove it with an easy out ( i had already soaked the top of the bolt the day before with penetration oil ) the welded bolt in the sub frame broke off . I made a temp repair with washer and replaced the new bolt .i have checked out this issue and found out that there are a lot of yaris owners out there with the same problem . I contacted toyota c/s and ask them if they had a fix plate that i could buy to fix this problem correctly i also told them that some thing should be done before someone gets injured !

The right front lower control arm bolt broke off.i want to let you know before someone get hurt.luckily i was pulling into my garage when it happened and not going down the highway at speed.some thing needs to get done before someone gets hurt.

I bought my 2008 yaris brand new in june of 2007. This year, sometime in july or august, my front windshield spontaneously cracked. It was sitting in my driveway, safe from harm, when this happened. About a week later, the back windshield shattered.the service people at toyota of seattle confirmed that the crack was not due to impact by object or force because of the pattern of the glass break. Toyota also took responsibility for the back windshield because of the odd shatter formation of the glass. There was no point of impact in the glass, and the glass shards fell straight down, instead of forward or backward which is consistent with blunt force breakage.toyota took responsibility for all charges and for the repair of my vehicle's windshield. I am satisfied with their customer service in this matter, however, i am constantly worried that my windows could break again at any time, or that it might happen to someone else in their yaris. Hopefully this was just a fluke as i am highly satisfied with everything else about the vehicle. I just worry about my safety as well as others' safety if this were to happen in other models.
