The contact's parents purchased a 2018 toyota tundra (na). While driving approximately 30 mph, a vehicle suddenly cut in front of the driver and caused a chain reaction of sudden stops with several vehicles. The driver rear ended the preceding vehicle. The air bags and toyota safety sense system failed to activate. The safety sense feature was supposed to stop the vehicle automatically due to objects (vehicle) being in close proximity at a fast rate. The front end of the vehicle had severe damage and was towed. The contact was unsure if a police report was filed. The driver received injuries to the neck and arm area, which required medical attention. The contact was not aware if the vehicle was totaled or able to be repaired. The contact was unaware if the dealer was informed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 1,000.
Headlights flash or turn off when using the turn signals. Dash lights also dim. Seems to happen when i use the left turn signal. Has happened several times. If i turn the switch to the off position then back they have turned back on.
Driving at night with headlights on in auto position all lights shut off as if the switch was turned to off. This happens usually when turning. A tap on the turn signal stalk / headlight switch brings them back.impossible to recreate.this is very dangerous.this happens monthly.
When enabling the rear defroster (and side mirror defrost), i heard a loud pop, and noticed smoke under the passenger windshield wiper.the windshield had cracked (presumably from the heat differential), and the wiper started to melt on the windscreen.there appears to be an electrical short directly under the windshield (and under the passenger wiper) that is related to the defroster.this occurred when the vehicle was stationary, and cold (morning startup).
Trailer brake controller does not work and it almost caused a crash. Now it does not even shows up on display as if truck is not even equipped with this module. Extremely scary and dangerous when towing 6000ib behind you and your trailer brakes fail to engage. Internet is bussing with tundra owners with same issue.
While driving at night and the lights are on auto, pressing down for the left signal the headlights go out and the dash becomes dim as if i am driving during the day which im not. The vehicle is moving when the lights go out .please find a resolution because this is dangerous and could cause others to collide with me while on the road.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tundra. The contact stated that the exterior and interior turn signals failed to illuminate when the turn signal switch was activated. The contact stated that the same failure occurred with the windshield wipers when the wiper switch was activated. The failures recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to bert ogden toyota (located at 8721 w expy 83, harlingen, tx 78552, (956) 622-4384), but the failures could not be duplicated. The vehicle was also taken to spartan toyota (located at 5701 s pennsylvania ave, lansing, mi 48911, (517) 394-6000), but they could not duplicate the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and opened case number: 1808292570. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000.
With the headlight switch selected to 'auto' and when engaging the turn signal to the left durning night driving, all exterior and interior lights would go black until turn signal switch is moved to the on the position. Vehicle was taken local toyota dealership service department to remedy the issue. Initially, this dealership thought it was the light sensor located on the dash of the truck and replaced it using a warranty claim. Almost immediately (next day), the vehicle repeated the same initial failure over 3 times in an hour. I made an appointment with that same toyota dealership but upon arrival i was met with resistance due to a previous warranty claim for the same issue. They advised me if i wanted the switch replaced, it would be totally at my expense. I left that dealership and proceeded to another toyota dealership who replaced the switch at my expense. The replacing of the switch has solved the lights going out while driving during the night. I've read on several truck forums that this is a known issue by toyota but they haven acknowledged it. Luckily, i can afford to replace my switch to ensure my family is safe in this vehicle but my submission here is for those that can't afford the replacements and need toyota to issue a recall to fix this serious but inexpensive issue.
When the signal stalk is placed on auto and it is clearly dark outside the headlights will intermittently turn off when putting the left turn signal into place.the lights will come back on when the signal stalk is back in the neutral position. This has happened while in motion, stationary, and at different outside temperatures. However, i have noticed this occurs more when the temperature is in the 40's.
The headlights and the interior lights turn off when i use the turn signals. This has happened several times since i had the truck, the last time this happened the lights were off for about 5 minutes.the truck is being looked at by the dealership but they can't recreate the issue. This is a safety problem

My 2017 toyota tundra 1794 crewmax, during winter months in south carolina - the headlights, tail lights and internal instrumentation will turn off when turning left or right with turn signal engaged. This only happens with the lights in the auto position and not in the manual position and the issue occurs at night intermittently while the vehicle is in motion!! sometimes the lights just flicker and sometimes they go off and stay off. I have almost ran off the road twice when this has happened. It happens more frequently with cooler temperatures. I have had this issue for over a year now trying to get toyota to fix it. This is a known issue that toyota doesnt want to fix unless they can duplicate this issue in the shop, in which they usually cant. There are many people online complaining of the same issue, on forums. This is a saftey issue that needs to be fixed asap.
I have a 2017 tundra and when i use my turn signal it makes my headlights and my dash lights go off. I have researched this on the internet and found a stream that this is a problem with a lot of these tundra's are having this issue. My lights have gone out when driving at night and this is a safety hazard. I have include a link to a blog of a ton of other owners that are having the same issue. This needs to be look into before someone is killed. Https://www.tundras.com/threads/auto-headlights-shut-off-with-turn-signal.22968/
On july 8, 2017 we had just purchased a new 2017 tundra.we tow a 24 ft. Rv trailer and we purchased this vehicle for that reason.one of the features this vehicle has is the integrated brake control system for towing.as we were headed home on state hwy. 42 near coos bay, oregon, i noticed blue smoke coming from the rear of the pickup.i wasn't sure what happened.i stopped as soon as i could and i couldn't locate the cause of the smoke.i later learned there has been many consumer complaints regarding the faultiness of this integrated brake system controller.i want this issue fixed so i can be assured of a safe trip when towing my rv trailer without the fear of having no trailer brakes when i need them or having them lock up for no reason.thank you
Mice are able to enter the air ventilation system from a large gap at the ends of the air intake grill below the windshield, once in, they enter the cab and dash area.these mice will damage the wiring and cause a vehicle system failure (braking-power-air bag, etc.) i have reported this to my dealer rochester toyota and toyota customer service (800-331-4331).the dealer has acknowledged that this is a issue and only suggestion was to put a scent in the cab to discourage the mice.this is serious manufacturing flaw that needs a retro fitted air intake grill to close off it's current gap that allow mice to enter the ventilation system.i have installed steel mesh to cover these large gaps (photos attached).a recall to correct this problem should be issued.
Dashboard gauges do not illuminate during the day when the headlights are off. Because of this, it can be very difficult (or impossible) to read the gauges while driving in shady areas, especially while wearing sunglasses.
Automatic headlights shut off when turn signal is used. It happens intermittently, but frequently. I have had this happen multiple time at speeds ranging from 10 mph to 80 mph but it only seems to happen when the automatic headlights are on and the turn signal is activated.
When operating the vehicle with the headlight stalk/selector on "auto", the dash lights and headlights suddenly go totally black or out.i'm able to turn the lights back on by moving the selector to "on".the problem is it happens and sometimes you don't know all of your lights are off when driving, especially in the city with other bright lights.this can be very dangerous.this has happened several times, so i no longer use the auto function on my stalk...too dangerous.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tundra. The contact stated that rodents damaged the electrical system in the vehicle by eating the soy-based wires. The dealer (modesto toyota, 4513 mchenry ave, modesto, ca 95356, (209) 529-2933) diagnosed that the wiring and the wiring harness needed to be replaced, which was an extensive repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that there was no warranty or recall for the failure. The vin and failure mileage were not available.
Unburnt fuel is entering the exhaust system and combusting when it comes in contact with the catalytic convertors. This happens almost every time it is driven. This has been happening from the day we bought it. Took the truck to dick hannah toyota in longveiw wa. They had never heard of this. The talked to the factory but nobody has a solution. The dealer tried a similar truck and got the same results. They talked to the toyota field rep. And he stated he could make this happen to his tundra when ever he wanted? this has happened while incruise control also.
Toyota 3ur-fe 5.7l v8 engine camshaft tower seal is prone to premature failure, which leads to engine oil leaking on the hot exhaust manifold, which could cause potential fire/flash hazard. More details (including photos) could be found in the recall petition at: https://www.change.org/p/toyota-motor-company-get-toyota-to-recall-cam-shaft-tower-leakage-problem-on-5-7l-v8-3ur-fe-engine?source_location=topic_page
The vehicle's instrument cluster is very dark and hard to read during the day. Especially on cloudy days or when wearing sunglasses. As a result, reading the instrument cluster takes significant effort, which means more time of eyes not on the road and it makes controlling speed hard.root cause of the problem is that the instrument cluster lighting does not come on unless the head and tail lights are on. With light switch set to "auto", head & taillights and thus instrument cluster lights will be off during the day. With the light switch set to on, instrument cluster lights will be on, but the maximum output is not bright enough to be easily visible in daytime driving.like most vehicles in texas, my truck came with legal and modest side window tinting from the dealer. This reduces light falling onto the mostly black instrument cluster and reflecting of the thin white lettering. Hence, it takes effort to read. The problem is exacerbated when wearing sunglasses (a must during summer in texas) or when driving on cloudy days.
Driving at night with headlights on in auto position all lights shut off as if the switch was turned to off. This happens usually when turning. A tap on the turn signal stalk / headlight switch brings them back.impossible to recreate.this is very dangerous.this happens monthly.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tundra. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, when he noticed the front driver's side turn signal was inoperable. The contact stated that the light bulb was melted.the vehicle was taken to local dealer toyota on nicholasville located at 2100 lexington rd, nicholasville, ky 40356, (859) 887-4200, where it was diagnosed with needing front passenger's side turn signal assembly to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,508.
When driving around at night and use the turn signal, the headlights will shut off and interior dash lights and radio lights will dim, as if it is day time. It typically happens in the mornings when it's cold out.

Purchased truck new in november 2016..about a year later starting having rough starts and having to crank truck several times at cold start. Massive recalls for ecm and fuel pump however 17s not included...also recently had front drivers side turn signal/running light replaced and still didnt work. Have read about this problem also. Local toyota dealership unable to fix either problem

Daytime running lights on sr5 option are amber in color and not allowed except as parking lights under co traffic regulations.toyota is apparently aware of problem but has not standardized headlight options

The contact owns a 2017 toyota tundra. After the contact parked the vehicle, the odor of fuel was present. The following day, the contact discovered fuel leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to walker toyota (8457 springboro pike, miamisburg, oh) where it was diagnosed that the fuel hose had been damaged by rodents. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 24,000.
Fuel tank is suppose to be 37 gallon. I have never put more than 28.5 gallons in the tank. Even when i run the tank to the red light or my mileage indicator show 20 or less miles remaining. I have ask the dealership twice about this and they claim is a safety feature so you don't run out of fuel. I run the tank down to 10 miles left in tank and that is when i put 28.5 gallons into it.
My truck won't start and the symptoms directly match the recall already in place for the following year. Vehicle eventually started but spewed out allot of unburned fuel out of exhaust pipe.
This happened 4 times today the vehicle would stay at 1000 rpm while driving with no acceleration possible, it was as if the gas pedal was disconnected, tried to cross busy intersection , but could only coast threw. Also no warning codes available.later the vehicle would not shift or accelerate it was going 40 mph at 2000 rpm . The truck has 34500 miles on it.toyota says no issues of this kind reported and i'm one month out of warranty. I feel this is very dangerous, trying to cross busy intersection, whenyou can not accelerate i'm gonna get killed.

Traveling at 65mph - 70mph 12/26/19 2pm pst highway 5 northbound gilman dr ca slight uphill grade, pushed wiper control up to mist position, trans downshifted to 1st or 2nd instantly engine redlined and extreme drivingmeasures were taken to maintain vehicle control until trans shifted up releasing power train to role normally, no accident occurred as no other traffic was around at that moment, vehicle went from 65mph + to 30mph in seconds, was able to recreate at a lower speed with same results, drove directly to toyota service center in carlsbad ca without touching any other controls, service center left voice message next day that they had replicated failure and were replacing trans, sending removed trans to toyota corp for testing and research, service center informed me i needed to communicate with corp i ordered to have a complete drive train evaluation and a root cause report, have voicemails and emails to document

I bought this 2017 tundra dlb cab brand new and have had to shop several times about transmission down shifting and then up- shifting on slight inclines, not engaging when put in drive then slamming into gear. 1rst time they checked fluid and said all ok ,2nd time checked fluid again and was told transmission needs to be warmed up before driving , 3rd time they said they did a factory reset on transmission saying somehow out of sync / check fluid = this made it do it at different speed . Now if stopped on a slight incline while truck still in drive it rolls backwards while in gear until it catches and this causes engine stall !!! i called and asked toyota to start tech support , after receiving a call back i was told tech's wanted to know about incline and they wanted truck overnight . So , not only did i take pictures of the incline i also filmed truck rolling backwards in drive and stalling , i took back for 4th time showed and uploaded pictures and video to shop foreman's computer ( he and another mechaniclooked shocked )they kept overnight and next day . Then i was told they couldn't duplicate , they compared to same truck ( salesman told me they didnt have one ) and that truck did same thing ( trying to say it was ok because it did it too) and then being told at present time they cannot fix and or install new parts / transmission !!!!!! this problem is going to seriously hurt , injure or kill someone !! as i told them i have had three other toyota's , a chevy , ford and grand marquis and they don't do this . Toyota has a problem they seem to want to ignore !! please help
Integrated trailer brake controller doesn't apply adequate voltage to trailer brakes.at 100% gain brakes barely work with an empty trailer.brakes should lock up at 100% gain.towing any load is dangerous without trailer brakes.dealership had no fix or remedies.i haven't had any situations because i know i shouldn't drive it without trailer brakes.i bought a truck to tow my camper, flat trailer and boat.a$47,000 truck should be able to tow.
The onboard intigrated trailer break controller does not work with all electric break trailers. Works on manual trailer break application but not effective enough with vehicle breaks. This is very dangerous. During a panic stop the trailer breaks do not come on like they do with an after market break controller like a tekonsha p3 progressive break controller. This dangerous situation needs to be addressed with a software recall to make the electric break mose more responsive. How many accidents does it take for the ntsb to take action.go online and read all the negative forums.
Integrated brake controller. Tsb t-sb-0231-17 and t-sb-0231-16 performed with negative results. Unable to perform set up of controller according to owners manual. Dealer submitted a drp awaiting toyota corp. To investigate. Toyota corp. Has no other fix for this controller. Toyota corp. Said ibc works as designed. Ibc will not stop trailer safely.
While backing out of a parking spot, this vehicle failed to stop when i placed my foot on the brakes causing the vehicle to hit another parked vehicle. When the police office commanded me to remove my vehicle and park it inside a parking spot, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle again, leading to another auto accident.
Trailer brake controller not functioning when brake pedal applied, gain makes no difference in braking. Twice i have had to make an emergency stop and felt no braking from the trailer.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tundra. While driving 55 mph, a very violent vibration was felt in the steering wheel and the brake pedal. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to hyannis toyota (1020 iyannough rd, hyannis, ma 02601, (774) 470-1079) where it was diagnosed that the vibrations were normal. The manufacturer also stated that the vibrations were normal. The failure mileage was 288.

Trailer integrated brake controller (ibc) does not work correctly. Using setting for "electric brakes" on multi display indicator (mdi) will not stop trailer with dual axle disc brakes.very poor performance with gain turned to max. Work around is to select "electric over hydraulic" on mdi and adjust gain output.
Integrated brake controller does not operate trailer brakes in relationship to brake pedal pressure. Completely inadequate to use and a serious potential for an accident while towing trailer, camper, etc.

While towing a camper,i had a trailer brake warning light.i checked the connector and drove on,light came on again.had minimal brake control on my camper brakes.i went to a dealer in ct, they said they had had 1 issue with onevehicle..imade an appointment with my purchasing dealer. The master tech could find no problem.said it was most likely a problem with the ground on my camper.i had towed this camper for 2 years with a 2012 tundra with no issues. With the 2017,could not adjust the brakes or get them to lock up,even on setting # 10.dealer didnt give me a copy of the work order, said there wasnt a problem.getting ready to go on a trip and will be hooking up an after market controller as i dont trust this one.have been a loyal toyota customer and i'm very disappointed.
Factory onboard intigrated trailer break controller does not work as specified. When set to manual electric breaks none of the gaine settings work. The manual override works but not the trail breaks. If you switch to electric over hydraulic the breaks grab and are unsafe. Also the vehicle comes standard with a towing package but towing mirrors are optional. A very expensive option. When installed on the tundra platinum you loose all other safety functions of the standard platinum mirrors. You loose the outboard clearance lights, the blind spot monitor, the automatic diming function, the memory function and the puddle lamps. This needs to be addressed with toyota. All of these are safety items.
Connecting iphone 11 pro via bluetooth connection to radio causes the radio to completely reboot repeatedly and no longer works correctly. Detaching the bluetooth iphone returns the radio to normal function.
Ordered and received 2017 toyota tundra pickup truck with work package. Per toyota, "work package" removes electronic options such as power seats, windows and locks. The problem here, is that there is no keyed cylinder lock installed on the passenger side door, therefore--removing the electronic door lock, also removes all means of entering the locked passenger side of this vehicle, except by unlocking the driver side door, and crawling over the seat to manually unlock the door from the inside. Toyota does not state lack of passenger door access in any of their published information concerning the "work truck package". I am very concerned about safety issues pertaining to this by eliminating all exterior access to the passenger side.in an emergency situation, for any reason the driver's side door is either inoperable or unaccessible, there would be no quick, easy way to enter the vehicle with a simple turn of a key -- only option would be to break through a window, if possible. I find it very disturbing that a major automobile manufacturer purposely eliminates vehicle access due to financial reasons, overshadowing safety reasons.

Interior dash and center console have highly reflective chrome bezels.the chrome reflects sun directly into driver (and passenger) eyes depending on the relationship of the sun and location of the vehicle while it is being driven.the reflections shine directly into the drivers eyes and occur at the same time across the length of the dashboard and center console.this reflection of sunshine into the interior is extremely distracting.even if one holds up a hand in an attempt to block the bright reflection one can't block all the different reflections from the interior.i believe this is an severe safety issue that should require replacement of the mentioned interior chrome details with a dark non-reflective trim.
With the headlight switch selected to 'auto' and when engaging the turn signal to the left durning night driving, all exterior and interior lights would go black until turn signal switch is moved to the on the position. Ibc is a completely terrible part in the truck. 3 times pulling a trailer and then the brakes completely give out. Took it to the service center and of course nothing is wrong with it. Took the trailer to a rv place and nothing wrong with that. After all the threads and everyone complaining about the tow brakes not working toyota is refusing to own up to a problem. It is unsafe and someone will get hurt. How is this not being addressed and why is the problem not fixed? why have a tow package and not be able to tow. Take ownership and fix the brakes!!
The spare tire detached from its mount under the vehicle while we were driving at highway speed on i-76 in ne colorado. The tire fell to the pavement and was struck by the travel trailer we were towing, blowing out a trailer tire and damaging the trailer. The spare tire was struck a few minutes later by another vehicle, causing failure to 2 tires on their vehicle and near loss of vehicle control. The people in the second vehicle confirmed it was our spare tire.at the time of this incident, our toyota tundra was 10 months old, purchased in january 2017. The spare tire had never been used nor had it been lowered or removed from its factory-installed mounting device. It was fitted with a dealer-installed spare tire lock. The truck has not been in an accident or damaged in any way and has been maintained by the dealership where it was purchased.we have a dash-cam file of the incident but it only shows that nothing else was in the highway as the incident occurred. The rearview camera only shows the travel trailer rocking as it went over the spare tire.
