Toyota tundra with front bench seat have no air bag for center passenger.

The contact owns a 2016 toyota tundra. While driving approximately 62 mph, both the driver and passenger side curtain air bags erroneously deployed without warning or impact. There were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to shelor toyota (2260 roanoke st, christiansburg, va), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 30,000.

Re: integrated break controlleri wanted to express a serious safety concern i have with an item that now ships with the 2016 toyota 5.7l tundra's - the built in / integrated break controller for use when pulling trailers/campers/etc. It seems that regardless of the power setting, no noticeable power is supplied to the trailer brakes, even at it's highest setting. It feels like the trailer/camper is pushing the truck, which can be a serious issue when stopping. This would happen every time i would tow and i was always very worried about causing an accident if i needed to stop quickly or if the road conditions were not idea. I've never felt this with other break controllers. It's my understanding toyota has not acknowledged this as being an issue yet. After talking to many other tundra owners everyone has the same issue,i've not talked to anyone that has a working integrated break controller in their 2016. I've taken out my integrated break controller that came in my 2016 toyota tundra and replaced it with an after market brake controller out so i can property brake with my camper attached. For now my issue is resolved, however, i am however very worried about others that might be using the integrated break controller and the huge potential for a serious accident because their trailer or camper brakes are not working. Please look into this before any serious accidents happen. Thanks!

My 2016 toyota tundra 1794 crewmax, during winter months in midwest - the headlights and and internal instrumentation will turn off when turning left or right with turn signal engaged. The automatic lights are engaged on column stalk and the issue occurs at night. The vehicle is in motion

The power locks for the front driver side and passenger side fail to work as expected.it is not consistent.when driving, it is supposed to lock automatically for safety but does not always lock (or unlock with the key fob when needing to get into the vehicle.problem occurs when vehicle is stationary or moving.

The integrated elecric brake controler for towing a trailer does not work.

On my 2016 toyota tundra 1794 edition, with headlights in "auto" position, when i use turn signal, the headlights, taillights and dash lights all occasionallyturn off.once turn signal shuts off, lights come back on . It typically happens at night when it's cold out. It has now happened probably half a dozen times in the last six months.while problem is intermittent, it's very scary, as i'm driving blind on a rural road until the light come back on.on the tundras.com owners website, this appears to be a common issue.help!before someone gets hurt.

The contact owns a 2016 toyota tundra. While towing a trailer, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the trailer brake lights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the integrated brake controller failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 500. The vin was not available.

The trailer brakes will not operate correctly. The trailer brakes will not lock up even when set on 10. Very dangerous when hauling any trailer with breaks. I have put my other truck to the trailer and it operates great. It is absolutely the break control from the factory not the trailer

I bought a 2016 tundra in may of 2016.i own some ranch property in west texas.i have taken the truck there twice and both times i have had wiring damaged by rodents. So far it is up to over 800 dollars.toyota will not warranty it.

My headlights shut off when using my turn signal

The vehicle was struck by lightning on 8/13/17. The dealership where we bought this vehicle new agreed to fix it through our insurance claim and provides a lifetime warranty on the repairs. The vehicle continues to have problems. See the attached list of damages, which were provided to the dealership on 1/15/18. When i dropped it off i indicated the vehicle was malfunctioning again without the cruise control engaged.the dealership called today and very rudely stated they could not recreate the problem and will not fix the vehicle.the vehicle is unsafe to drive because of some of the issues. When i asked to speak to the customer service manager, the receptionist refused and said they will not fix my vehicle.

Electric brake controller doesn't work properly. Several people have already contacted nhtsa on this problem.

I have a serious safety concern regarding the lack of daytime vehicle instrument illumination on my new 2016 toyota tundra (while driving, stationary and on all roads) during the day. As an elder adult who wears sunglasses to protect their eyes (on the recommendation of the medical profession) the dash board (specifically the speedometer indicator) is barely discernible. Even without sunglasses the instrument panel is very dark. I am sure there are thousands of others who would like to see the instruments and operate their vehicles in a safe and lawful manner during the daytime or with sunglasses on. I am sure the decision, by toyota, to not illuminate the dash in the daytime saves a few pennies and adds up for the manufacturer when you sell thousands of vehicles? but. . . Not being able to see a dark instrument panel is bound to cause more than a few accidents.

Headlights turn off intermittently when the left turn signal is used and the headlights switch is in auto more. Dealership can't/won't replicate the issue so they will not troubleshoot further. This is a problem that a lot of platinum and 1794 edition toyota tundras are having and it is being ignored by toyota;https://www.tundras.com/threads/auto-headlights-shut-off-with-turn-signal.22968/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tzrplq9wp4i've had it into the dealership to check and they say there is nothing they can do. Pickup only has about 26k miles on it.first time it happened was on a freeway cloverleaf in the rain and luckily there were street lights because i was in the middle of a merge. Other times it has been signaling to turn left and entering the center turn lane on multi-lane roads. Always happens while it is dark outside because that's when the headlights are in auto which makes it more dangerous.

While trailering my 6800 pound travel trailer for the first time and after i had manually set the factory electric brakes, a car pulled out in front of me and the electric brakes would not stop my trailer or even slow it down. The brakes were set at an 8.5 on the readout. I came within inches of an accident at about 45 mph. Next, the brakes were adjusted all the way up to a setting of 10. This also did not help to stop the truck and trailer with braking hard at various speeds. I reported this to the dealer after i had tried several other times to adjust the brakes with no success. At this point, i am awaiting toyota to come up with a fix before someone is killed or injured. This issue is wide spread across tundra forums online.

The integrated elecric brake controller included in my platinum edition options for towing a trailer does not work.according to dealer, there is no fix from toyota although they are aware of the issue.

On my 2016 toyota tundra platinum edition, at night with headlights in "auto" position, when i use turn signal, the headlights, taillights and dash lights all occasionally turn off. Once turn signal shuts off, lights come back on . It typically happens at night when it's cold out. Them is intermittent, this is so scary! i was going down the freeway at 80 mph at night and my truck (full of my family) just disappeared when i changed lanes. I have taken my truck in 3 times now and toyota can't replicate so they says they can't fix it. Please help! before someone gets hurt.

I purchased a new trailer to pick up my new tractor. I tested the trailer brakes knowing i was pulling a large load and didn't want an accident. The brakes appeared to apply but due to it not being loaded when testing i had it set to 5(out of 10). While pulling it back home on the interstate towing my tractor behind me there was traffic stopping ahead. I always drive in the right lane to not slow others...thank god i did. I had to drive off the road onto the shoulder to miss hitting or driving over cars ahead of me! the brakes turned up to 10 did nothing to even slow me down. I was towing 4 tons and 3 tons for the truck totaling 7 tons, someone would've been killed!toyota needs to fix these trailer brakes! i can't tow my tractor anywhere for work due to the brakes being unsafe!

The integrated brake controller isnot work when applying the brakes in electric brake mode.took my tundra out for a test drive with my 24' 3200 lb travel trailer. I set the gain to 10 and hit the manual slide and the trailer tires locked up. Stepped on the brakes and couldn't feel any brakes being applied to the trailer. I would have expected the trailer tires to lockup when i hit the brakes with a gain of 10.this could make a very dangerous situation.

Lock actuator went out on truck after only 2 years.per dealer this is a known issue.found online that it is very common in newer toyota vehicles and often occurs on all 4 doors.costly to repair and should not go out that quickly.

All lights (headlamps and tail lamps and instrument panel) turn off when using turn signal. This typically happens when changing lanes at highway speed. I am not the only one experiencing this problem. Seems to occur in 2015-2017 toyota tundras (1794 & platinum editions). See thread. Https://www.tundras.com/threads/auto-headlights-shut-off-with-turn-signal.22968/page-3

Low note electric horn intermitten failure: the low note electric horn becomes inoperative below 25 degrees fahrenheit while pressing the steering wheel horn pad/switch. The high note horns operates during this. I have had several close call encounters driving on the road where i needed the horn during these periods of low temperature and the horn didn't provide adequate audible warning. I have brought this up to my local dealership and they were "unable to duplicate customer concern". This is a $50 part that should of been replaced under good will if problem could not have been duplicated even when i provided video evidence of the horn inoperative. I do not feel safe driving a vehicle that is under warranty and still making payments on with an inoperative horn. I can provide the necessary dealership invoice to nhtsa upon request.

The front driver and front passenger door lock intermittentlydo not work. There are no specific parts of the day, time, weather conditions. It will work fine and then either one fails or the other, or both. Then its starts to work again without any issues. This has been going on for at least 12-18 months.

The contact owns a 2016 toyota tundra. The contact stated that the trailer brake controller malfunctioned, which resulted in little to no assistance from the trailer brakes even when the vehicle brake pedal was depressed. The contact stated that the trailer brake was only operable once the vehicle was set into manual override mode. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the trailer brake controller was defective and needed to be replaced. The brake controller was repaired, but the failure still occurred. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was approximately 550. Updated 06/21/16*lj

The drivetrain on my 2016 toyota tundra are not allowing the wheels to rotate freely. Additionally, the wheels are locking up on the truck.on 6 dec, i picked up my tundra from the dealership's service depart after having the rear differential repaired.the vehicle started to drive sluggish.as i neared my home, i tried to test the 2wd and 4wd functions of the vehicle.i attempted to test the repair that was done.the wheels on the vehicle started to have problems rotating freely and locking up.while in 4wd the vehicle would not move.it appeared as if the breaks were locked on the vehicle.four days later, the vehicle still drives sluggish.while driving at speeds of 45mph, i would take my foot off the accelerator and the vehicle would almost come to a complete stop on its own.currently the vehicle acts like it wants to drive in 4wd low and high mode.additionally, the wheels are acting like they do not want to rotate freely.as of 6am on 8 dec, i cannot drive the vehicle over 25 mph.the vehicle is idling over 4000 rpm and not changing gears. The vehicle is registering being in 4wd low but the selector switch is on 2wd mode.

Under acceleration the truck hesitates during shifting.took to dealership and they canā€™t find anything however it continues intermittently.during speeds on highway it does the same.no codes so the dealership said it would just have to continue until something triggered or became more frequent. To date this continues. Started seeing the random issue around feb 2021

Bought new 2016 tundra limited 11/16/2015 and noticed that dash lights do not come on during daylight hours unless parking lights or headlights are on. In the off/drl position or the auto position no dash lights. When i called toyota help line i was told that this change was made because if the driver can see the outline of the numbers on the gauges they do not need to be illuminated. He could not offer any reason for changing this standard feature. Other than not seeing the gauges sharper and clearer one safety defect is present. The tundra has gauges instead of warning lights for engine operations and they are smaller than the speedometer/tachometer . The temp gauge is located on the lower left of the dash and cannot be seen clearly without the dash illuminated because that corner is dark if it is cloudy or early or late . If the engine overheats one would not see that problem on the gauge which might lead to engine failure ,etc. I have never owned a vehicle that required turning on the parking lights or headlights to illuminate the dash..dealer says that switch cannot be customized. Toyota should issue a fix for this mistake.

Headlights turn off intermittently when the left turn signal is used and the headlights switch is in auto more. Dealership can't/won't replicate the issue so they will not troubleshoot further. While driving at night, the activation of turn signal intermittentlyshuts off headlights. To re-energize headlights i have to manually switch the headlight switch from auto to on. This is very disturbing and dangerous while driving at night in rural areas. I am hoping someone addresses this with toyota, since if they can't replicate the issue they send you home!

The headlights and interior dash lights randomly turn off when using the blinker.i have owned this truck for 3 months now and it has happened on four different occasions.i cannot replicate this issue on my own.

My headlights shut off when using my turn signal

I have a serious safety concern regarding the lack of daytime vehicle instrument illumination on my new 2016 toyota tundra (while driving, stationary and on all roads) during the day. As an elder adult who wears sunglasses to protect their eyes (on the recommendation of the medical profession) the dash board (specifically the speedometer indicator) is barely discernible. Not being able to see a dark instrument panel is bound to cause more than a few accidents.

When engaging turn signal, all lights extinguish momenatarily. This is an intermitten and happens at random, but not constant. The first time i noticed was early morning before sun rise i was in a turning lane at a red light stopped, engaged left turn signal and all lights went dark. The next time i was attempting to merge and engaged turn signal in traffic all lights went dark. Isearched the internet forums to find this is a common occurence with tundra platinum and 1794 models. My vehicle has no modifications and all lighting is factory installed.

Headlights in the on or auto position randomly go out when blinker returns to neutral position after being engaged.this has happened while in motion at low and highspeeds on city streets and highways and coming out of a completed stop.cannot determine if this is a short in wiring harness or if triggered by faulty component.

If the headlights are set to auto and i signal a left turn and turn to the left, the headlights shut off and the interior lights switch to "day mode". The issue seems intermittent. It seems to occur in cooler temps (<50f).

While driving at night time, the whole lighting include headlight and inside light like odometer screen, navigation screen completely black out for few second sometime near a minnute. Its only happen when the blinkers its used.

All lights (headlamps and tail lamps and instrument panel) turn off when using turn signal. This typically happens when changing lanes at highway speed. My 2016 toyota tundra 1794 crewmax, during winter months in midwest - the headlights and and internal instrumentation will turn off when turning left or right with turn signal engaged. The automatic lights are engaged on column stalk and the issue occurs at night. The vehicle is in motion

Headlights, taillights, and dashlights all go off when using the turn signal.this has happened half a dozen times at night when the temperature is in the 30's, both when turning on narrow unlit rural roads, and on the interstate at 75mph when changing lanes.it is a common problem with the 1794 edition of the tundra with the automatic headlights.you can find dozens of other tundra owners who have experienced this problem, including a video on the tundra.com website.see link below:https://www.tundras.com/threads/auto-headlights-shut-off-with-turn-signal.22968/this is exactly what has happend to me, and it is scary dangerous.i reported this to nhtsa back in december, and toyota has yet to do anything about it.they have not even issued a service bulletin.please get them to fix this!even my toyota service agreement won't fix my tundra, because the dealer can't replicate the problem (it's not cold, and they close at 6 when it's not dark!), and there is no service bulletin or anything from toyota acknowledging this is even a problem.i'm begging you, at least get toyota to acknowledge there is a probem and figure out how to fix it!!

My truck is shutting off while driving, can be very dangerous.

I purchased toyota tundra on 6 nov 2015.since owning the vehicle i have been getting 460 miles to a full tank of gas (38 gallon tank).those numbers equate to 12mpg in fuel economy estimates. I picked the vehicle up on 6 nov2015.the truck had a full tank of gas.the fuel efficiency read 570 mile for a full tank of gas.on 13 nov i drove the vehicle to florida.every time i filed up the truck with fuel the fuel efficiency reading started to decline.on the first three full tank of gas, the reading was 540 and 520 miles for a full tank of gas on 15 november. I took the vehicle to the dealership on or about 17 nov.the service department plugged the vehicle up to a computer.the computer sent out a report that showed that the vehicle was getting 18 mpg.the service personnel told me that i would be doing well if i got 14mpg.based on their comments i was not to expect anything over 15mpg over the highway.on 25 nov, i drove the vehicle to florida.i decided to manually track the mileage in regard to a full tank of gas with the use of the trip counter.i took pictures of the vehicle only registering 12mpg on a full tank of gas.on a full 38 gallon tank, i was only able to drive 460 miles per tank.that equate to 12mpg.the driving condition was 74-78 degrees; driving on i95; there was only three passengers in the vehicle.i used 89 octane graded gas.

Under acceleration the truck hesitates during shifting.took to dealership and they canā€™t find anything however it continues intermittently.during speeds on highway it does the same.no codes so the dealership said it would just have to continue until something triggered or became more frequent. The drivetrain on my 2016 toyota tundra are not allowing the wheels to rotate freely. The vehicle is registering being in 4wd low but the selector switch is on 2wd mode.

While driving back from florida on 30 nov, i heard a humming noise coming from the rear of my toyota tundra.on 2 dec 2015, the dealership did service on the truck to address the noise.the dealership replaced the rear differential assembly and did something to the lsd.i picked the vehicle up on 6 december 2015, the rear wheels started locking up and made it difficult to drive the vehicle.i let the vehicle set over the weekend.on 7 dec 2015, i attempted to drive the vehicle again, the wheels were still locking up and the vehicle had a burning smell.i have an appoint to return the vehicle on 9 dec 2015.

Rear wheel bearings failed (but still functional) at 17000 miles. Wheels still rotate but there is a very loud droning noise at highway speeds with a slight squeal at lower speeds. Non-toyota mechanics have expressed concerns about driving the vehicle as bearings can fail altogether and seize the wheels.

The contact owns a 2016 toyota tundra. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed rust on the frame of the rear seat. The vehicle was taken to hertrich toyota of milford (1367 bay rd, milford, de 19963, (877) 458-0609) where the contact was informed that the cause of the failure was due to moisture entering the vehicle. The contact cleaned the rust, but the failure recurred with even more rust. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 31,000.

The integrated brake controller does not work. Dealer had no fix. When set for electric brakes, the manual slider does apply brakes to the trailer but when applying foot pedal braking, there is no brakes being applied to the trailer. While researching this online on tundratalk.net, it appears all of the new 2016 brake controllers do not work. This is a very dangerous situation for someone that does not realize the trailer brakes do not work.

Truck is rated to tow 9100lbs, and includes an integrated trailer brake controller for use with electric trailer brakes (which is new for 2016 tundra's).the first time i hooked the truck up to the trailer, i set up the trailer brakes using the owners manual.after pulling out onto the street i immediately noticed that when i pressed the brakes the trailer brakes failed to engage.my trailer weighs nearly 8000lbs.luckily, the manual slider works to engage the trailer brakes, but even on a gain setting of 10 (max) the foot brake fails to adequately engage the brakes on my trailer.i have tried 2 other trailers, and talked to multiple 2016 tundra owners online and this problem is consistent across all tundra's towing any type trailer.under hard brakng at any speed my trailer wants to jacknife and push the truck out of it's way, because the brakes on the truck are engaging to max and the trailer brakes are hardly engaging at all even on max gain setting.this is a serious issue that needs to be resolved and toyota is not coming forward with a fix.they claim the controller is "working as designed", but i tow 8000lbs behind me and without adequate trailer brakes a serious accident is just waiting to happen.someone needs to step in and force toyota to address this serious issue before someone is hurt or killed. Luckily the manual slider still works, but that is a bandaid solution every tundra owner can't be expected to drive around manually applying the trailer brakes separate from the foot brake.if i can stop my trailer faster when manually applying the trailer brakes than the truck will stop with just the foot brake, than something is obviously defective!in what scenario would toyota ever want my truck to stop less quickly in a max braking situation?it doesn't make sense, and they need to come up with a solution!

I recently purchased a 2016 tundra to pull my small travel trailer. On a recent trip i had to stop quickly and realized that the trailer brakes were not activating. I then did some tests to see what it would take to get it to activate and was surprised to discover that it was not braking the trailer at all. I brought it to my local toyota dealer and they told me that there was a ton of complaints about this issue but they have no fix for it.

Integrated trailer brake controller not functioning correctly. In electric mode, no power setting (1-10) is able to get the trailer brakes to lock up when the truck brakes are applied. This is a crucial test to calibrate the trailer brakes before going on the road, and demonstrates that the output signal from the brake controller isn't sufficient to stop the truck/trailer combo in an emergency situation.the trailer brakes are able to lock up with certain settings if you manually activate the trigger, demonstrating that the controller not only has the ability to lock up the brakes, but that the trailer itself isnt the problem. The programming of the controller is suspect.

Integrated trailer brake controller intermitent failure. Trailer brakes work for a few braking cycles then fail completely with an error message on the truck of "trailer wiring type, or connection fault". Turning the vehicle off and on resets the controller and "fixes" the problem until another few braking cycles, then repeats.

The built in trailer brake controller does not work properly when used with any trailer equipped with electric brakes. It is not capable of controlling loaded trailers safely. I have brought this matter to the attention of toyota and the master technician at my local dealership says he understands the problem and can reproduce the safety issue under testing - but at this time the manufacturer has no recommended solution in place to fix this issue. Please help as it is dangerous. Defect was also evident on a second similar brand new vehicle taken from dealer lot for testing at my last visit to dealer.

The integrated brake trailer controller to control the brakes on a trailer is not working.the brake controller fails to control the brakes on the trailer while in "electric" mode for electric brakes.it is very dangerous to rely on a brake controller to slow or stop a vehicle that is towing a load with trailer brakes that are not working.i towed our camper this last weekend with my entire family in the car and it was very dangerous to my family and others on the road.

The integrated elecric brake controller included in my platinum edition options for towing a trailer does not work.according to dealer, there is no fix from toyota although they are aware of the issue.

The control braking does not working properly when towing. I have gained set to highest level which is 10 and on a empty 6x10 toy trailer it will not lock up. When just pressing with brake does not work at all only has littles tension when pressing the brake slider manually. This is very dangerous

Integrated brake controller (ibc) on a 2016 toyota tundra fails to adequately stop a trailer fitted with electronic drum brakes.when the brake controller is in the electric brake mode, i get very little braking with the ibc maxed at level 10 on the gain control. I can manually stop the trailer using the manual squeeze levers and the brakes stop the trailer and truck, but provides very little braking when using the brake pedal.the trailer pushes the truck creating a very dangerous situation.if i put the brake controller in the electric over hydraulic brake mode, the brakes work by the brake pedal but grab instantly at only a gain level of (1.5).the trailer brakes have been tested and work as expected with an aftermarket brake controller.toyota's ibc, as noted by several other owners, on many websites are not performing as expected when towing a trailer.if road surfaces are wet or icy the truck breaks would have little chance to stop a loaded trailer at max capacity.

I recently bought a travel trailer and, after reading the manual, was setting up the integrated brake controller (heretofore referred to as the ibs). I was following the user manual supplied with my truck when i purchased it new step-by-step.i eventually had the gain set to "10" and was still not getting proper braking pressure from the trailer.i got out, checked all connections, restarted the truck and tried again; same issue. I connected a friends tekonsha p3 through my trucks ibc cable (using his cable adapter) and tried again without a problem. This confirms it's not a trailer or wiring issue. I reconnect the ibc and restarted the truck, trying again; same issue. I took it to the dealer and they shrugged their shoulders, said they saw before with no resolve, and suggested i buy an aftermarket brake controller, too.i then looked online and found several hundred others experiencing the same problem, requiring that they buy an aftermarket brake controller to compensate for this one (two links are at the bottom of this complaint). The dealers and toyota are unable/unwilling to do anything. This needs to be addressed. The contact owns a 2016 toyota tundra. The contact stated that the brake controller on the vehicle failed to activate the brake on the trailer. The contact stated that an error message illuminated, referring the driver to the owner's manual. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and sent two engineers to investigate the failure. The engineers diagnosed that the part was working as designed. The failure was not remedied.

The factory supplied oem brake controller does not function properly, and is a significant safety issue. The current design or software is too conservative, and does not provide sufficient power to trailers with electric brakes. I have towed my new trailer with new brakes several times, and the result is consistent. With the brake controller set at full power, the actual trailer braking is minimal, therefore forcing the vehicle to provide some of the braking force. This works in controlled situations on level ground. But, in the mountains or emergency stopping, this represents a safety issue where i do not feel that the vehicle and trailer will be safely stopped without incident. A friend of mine has the exact same vehicle with the exact same issue. A simple internet search will reveal hundreds of similar complaints. This issue started with the 2015 model year. I'm concerned that toyota is continuing to ignore this issue due to legal liability regarding accidents that already occurred due to this engineering flaw. It is going on 3 years now without a fix. Toyota did issue a software upgrade last year which should have fixed this issue. I had the upgrade done, and it was almost imperceptible as to the difference. It was too conservative and still does not provide enough power, as compared to any brake controller on the market. Most owners have given up and installed aftermarket brake controllers like the tekonsha prodigy p3 model. I believe that the programming should be fixed so that the factory controller can be used safely.

The brake controller (ibc) needs to function properly

I'm making this report due to the lame integrated brake controller (ibc) in my 2016 toyota tundra.i've been towing a camper for the past 13 years and i know how to set up a brake controller (bc) and more importantly i know when they are working or not.with the ibc, when i press on the brake pedal i get no felt braking from the camper even when set to the highest gain setting (10) which considering the general light weight of my camper (5,000 lbs. Loaded), the highest gain setting should lock up my trailer brakes.the ibc setting for my camper is electric.i took my truck and camper to the toyota dealer so they could test the controller while hooked up.the technician hooked the truck up to a diagnostic computer and went through all the settings both static and on a test drive.the computer showed that the brake controller was working; however, even when set on the highest setting, i could not feel the trailer brakes kicking in.their conclusion was in spite of not feeling the brakes, that the brake controller was working.toyota says it's okay, but if i jack-knife my camper, i'm the one who has to deal with the consequences of the accident.as the result of having zero confidence in the ability of the ibc, i already installed an after-market bc (safety can't wait for a fix).i believe that people who are towing with this ibc, particularly anyone towing an eight or nine thousand pound camper is at risk as well as the public on our roadways. The dealer told me my ibc was working fine because the computer found no errors or incorrect voltage levels.while that may be true, it's a terrible bc and not suitable for a truck that's rated to tow a 10,000 lb. Trailer.what are they going to say to a family that gets wiped out in an accident?'we're sorry ' but don't look at us - the brake controller was working.'

Cpsc:i purchased a 2016 toyota tundra pickup truck. The truck comes with an integrated brake controller for towing trailers, boats, etc. The ibc has two modes of braking, for trailers withelectric brakes or for trailers with hydraulic brakes. The consumer stated the automatic braking did not work for the electrics brakes mode. Updated 04/21/2017

Have had braking issues with integrated brake controller, no matter what power level i use there seems to be very little if no effect on the trailer braking. I can switch the integrated brake controller to electric over hydraulic and they apply the brakes and they grab immediately, it seems that the integrated brake controller in electric brake mode does not produce enough electrical power to activate the trailer brakes.

The integrated break controller does not function correctly. Dealer stated it is a known problem and toyota does not have a repair for the factory defect.

Integrated trailer brake controller not functioning correctly.in electric mode, no power setting (1-10) is able to get the trailer brakes to lock up when the truck brakes are applied.this is a crucial test to calibrate the trailer brakes before going on the road, and demonstrates that the output signal from the brake controller isn't sufficient to stop the truck/trailer combo in an emergency situation.the trailer brakes are able to lock up with certain settings if you manually activate the trigger, demonstrating that the controller not only has the ability to lock up the brakes, but that the trailer itself isnt the problem.the programming of the controller is suspect.

Built in break controller is not working properly. With full gain, it does not apply the correct amount of brakes to my trailer.this is very dangerous and could lead to an accident.

The ibc fails to work on a aluma tandem trail.

Brake controller doesn't work as it designed.

Real sample the brake controller doesn't work no matter if you set it up to 9.5 or 10 doesn't do any brake applied.

Integrated brake controller does not operate trailer brakes, at any time. Movingor standing still.

While backing up, i tapped a pole sticking out of the ground and dent my plastic bumper.i took the vehicle into a body shop where they had to order the bumper and assembly.several days later while driving down the street, the right rear portion of the bumper fell off. What held it in place was the electrical for the backup sensor.i ended up using tape to hold the bumper to the pickup and went back to the body shop the next day.as the parts had come in.toyota said that since i backed into the pole there was no coverage for the bracket or bumper even though there was a recall on the bumper brackets i latter learned.. The bumper brackets that held the bumper in place was purchased from a toyota dealership.if i was tapped in a rear end accident and the bumper fell off it now becomes a safety issue with this vehicle. Photos of the damage prior and the bumper did not fall off.the bumper fell off because of safety defect of this vehicle while driving down the street in the city.

This is about the recall about the rear bumper. I got a notice about this and had to take it in to see if my truck was one they recalled and it was and they dont have the part to fix it. Been waiting now over 2 months. What happens if i step on it and break my leg and the bumper. Its taking way to long.

Rear bumper recall. As outlined in toyota tundra rear bumper recall. The reinforcement cracked and someone stepped on the bumper cover and now the dealer and toyota will not preformed the needed repairs stating the the vehicle was in a accident and should be repaired under insurance.

There is a known recall on the rear bumper brackets. For nearly 6 months, the dealers in south florida (esp toyota of north miami) have been unable to assist in remedy of this issue as they do not have the parts in stock.

I purchased a brand new toyota truck.istep on the rear bumper when the truck was stationary and nearly broke my leg, i noticed that the rear bumper appeared to have been already broken.when i took the new toyota truck to the parker toyota coeur d'alene idaho dealership they said that the rear bumper was under recall.a "...equipped with resin rear step bumpers and resin reinforcement brackets at each corner."yet they did not have the parts.this i had to drive around with this cracked bumper. The bumper eventually came off on the free way and broke apart.i returned after parker toyota in coeur d'alene, idaho had the parts and i had the time.bob told me that toyota would not pay for the bumper.they told me that it was my fault that i stepped on the pickup truck's bumper.i called toyota and my case number is case number: 170-906-0652 jeremy.they said parker toyota reported that there was some damage to the body of the truck, and also since i stepped on the bumper they would not replace the bumper.if there is any damage to the truck, it is tiny and it had to happen after the bumper was off the truck.to have any damage to the body an accident would have had to go "through" the bumper.i have driven around with the car for nearly 1 year after the bumper fell off a new toyota truck.stepping on a bumper, which is a very normal thing to do with a pickup truck should not void the recall.it is not my fault that a brand new truck had a resin bracket that gave way, injuring me, and becoming a road hazard. Toyota does not want to pay to fix their problems.

My rear passenger side bumper scraped a cement-block, causing some minor cosmetic damage to the bumper cover in august 2016.everything else was fine, but later on i did step on the bumper and heard a crack and the bumper collapsed.later i find out that from the recall notice this is a know problem.after contacting local dealer lancaster toyota, corporate 1 800 number, and email corporate all were not able to help me.they all refuse to fix the recall due to damage, but the damaged area is the recalled reinforcement bracket.all the damage was caused because i did step step on it.i did try to work with them in cause they wanted me to replace the outer bumper cover that is scratched, but they tell me i need to pay out of pocket to fix the whole thing before the recall is done.the problem is if i fix the whole area there is not need for the recall work to be done because i would have already paid for it.they will not give me a clear answer if i would be reimbursed for the recalled work.

The contact owns a 2016 toyota tundra. While the vehicle was parked, the rear passenger side bumper disassembled while being stepped onto to enter the rear of the truck. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed with a fractured clip for the passenger side bumper. The part had to be ordered. While waiting for the clip, a passenger stepped up on the bumper several days later and fractured the bumper in half. The passenger sustained injuries to the right shin, which required medical attention. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer sent an inspector to inspect the vehicle and diagnosed that the bumper damage was due to an impact, although the contact stated the vehicle was not involved in a rear end collision. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000. Updated 09/22/17*lj

Thanks!

Integrated brake controller does not operate trailer brakes, at any time. Movingor standing still.

Ibc does not function

About 3 months after purchasing my vehicle, i've noticed the front sensors (intermittently) keep going off. This happens once or twice every other week. Taken to dealership, at this time can't determine what's causing the problem. Also, the radio shuts off for several minutes, then comes back on.

The power locks for the front driver side and passenger side fail to work as expected.it is not consistent.when driving, it is supposed to lock automatically for safety but does not always lock (or unlock with the key fob when needing to get into the vehicle.problem occurs when vehicle is stationary or moving.

The integrated elecric brake controller included in my platinum edition options for towing a trailer does not work.according to dealer, there is no fix from toyota although they are aware of the issue.

Factory integrated brake controller does not work efficiently.with the ibc gain up to 10, the trailer brakes are not activated enough to slow the vehicle in a normal or emergency situation.the manual override slide bar barely engages the trailer brakes, it will not lock the trailer brakes as designed.vehicle brakes begin to get to hot to slow both the truck and trailer coming down hills, extremely dangerous!

Rear wheelor axle bearings make a noticeable loud humming sound when driving at road speed limit, especially when moving slightly left into a curve or right into a curve.

Today 01/31/2019i was driving my 2016 toyota tundra 1794 crew max truck on the freeway in oakland, ca around 1:30 pm. I had been driving with the rear (facing) window down approximately 8 " i was in the process of closing the rear electric window and just as it closed i drove over a steel trench plate that had been placed on the freeway by cal trans all 3 things happened at once, the window closed, i drove over the plate and the sunroof exploded outward with a shotgun like bang, i had the sun shade closed so no glass fell on me. I believe that the change in cabin air pressure coupled with the impact of the trench plate was all it took to cause this flawed sunroof to explode under normal operating conditions. The weather was slightly overcast and approximately 64 degrees at the time. I have photos but can not upload them at this time. The vehicle is now at the local toyota dealership.

Integrated trailer brake controller not working. Set at its highest rating it still did not work. Checked trailer brakes with another truck and they work. Applied the brakes with the manual activator and no brakes. Came close to having an accident. Will be meeting with dealer on this issue. Research on the internet shows that this might be a common problem

The wiper speed, while on high is not fast enough for a moderate rainfall.i was caught in a slightly above average downpour on the highway and i had to reduce my speed by almost 40mph to get a little visibility back.all other vehicles near me flew right past with their wipers on high without any issue.they need to speed up the wiper motor.

At only 77,000 miles the axle bearings have failed. This is unbelievable since sealed bearings are supposed to last the lifetime of the vehicle. The toyota dealership parts manager says these bearings fail frequently on the tundras.

Rear wheelor axle bearings make a noticeable loud humming sound when driving at road speed limit, especially when moving slightly left into a curve or right into a curve.
