On 12/17/2016 my daughter and i had a head-on collision. The passenger side airbags deployed fine and prevented my daughter from having any major injuries. My driver's side airbag popped out of the steering wheel but didn't inflate. Due to the airbag not deploying properly i hit my head on the steering wheel. This caused me to be transported by ambulance to the local hospital where i received stitches in my forehead and continue to suffer from a dizziness/headaches - concussion.i have asked my insurer usaa and their contracted inspectors to inspect the driver's airbag without success. Apparently you need to hire your own engineers or inspectors to conduct an inspection. I have tried to locate one in wv without success. Usaa wants to close out the claim and salvage/auction my vehicle. I would like to get an inspection done first. I'm not sure how to proceed on this but wanted to report the incident to prevent others from having to experience this and hopefully save lives if this is a widespread issue. Thanks for your time.
I bought my tundra with 7 miles on it so i know its not neglect that causes this problem it's poor quality part ..the clock spring under the steering wheel is malfunctioning my horn doesn't work it only has 60k on it i've been a loyal toyota technician as well as ii\ owned a few i called the hotline (toyota)theirs nothing they could do for me i will not recommend toyota to my customers any longer poor quality parts cost the consumer not the dealer its a shame the once mighty toyota corp has become just like the american counterparts
2011 toyota tundra.consumer writes in regards to vehicle air bags and transmission malfunction.the consumer stated her husband turned down the wrong street, and when he went to turn around, he put the vehicle in reverse, and stepped on the gas, but the vehicle went forward over a forty foot embankment and ran into a large boulder and a tree. When the vehicle stopped it was still in reverse and the air bags did not deploy.the consumer stated the main issue, was the vehicle was in reverse, but the truck went forward. According to eye witnesses, it appeared her husband was having trouble with the transmission.
Most door locks do not lock/unlock automatically. It's getting worse. I fear i will be locked in or out very soon if not fixed. If i had to get in the truck quickly for safety, i couldn't. Usually 2 of the 4 will not work - but you never know which ones.have to manually unlock/lock other doors from inside.
I was headed to springfield on i-95 and a car was coming into my lane and i tried to blow the horn and there was nothing. I ended up swerving into the left lane with traffic coming. It's happen a few times. I checked my fuse and it was fine. I ended up having to replace the air bag clock spring. It was a close call for a pile up situation let me tell you. $365.33 to have the air bag clock spring replaced. That should of never happen.
I have a 2011 tundra sr5 with a loud clicking noise that has been coming from the steering column near the shift lever. While in park, the brake pedal must be pressed in order to shift the truck into gear. When i press the brake pedal, a loud click can be heard from the column shifter. This is the column shift lockout solenoid and is normal. However, recently i can hear the solenoid clicking anytime i depress the brake pedal while i'm in gear. Sometimes it is a click, two clicks and sometimes it is series of rapid clicks. I have taken the truck to the dealer twice. The first time i was told the clicking was normal while in park and that they could not duplicate it while in gear. The second time i took it to the dealer, they "blew out the excess grease" from the shift lock. Their best explanation is that the column shift lock solenoid comes from the factory as a sealed unit and is packed with grease. The 'excess' grease can keep the locking arm from fully retracking or engaging and the solenoid will chatter because it is trying to put it into position.
Severe damage has been done to the electrical wiring from rodents chewing the wiring.

Tundra secondary air pump code po418 checkengine light. Vibration on acceleration. Code given on startup.
The tundra is kept in our garage and is driven one or two times a week.on christmas day 2014, when i drove the tundra, i noticed a number of unusual lights flashing on the dash, including the check engine light.when i examined the engine, i found a rats nest on top, and i suspected a rodent had damaged the wires.i took the tundra to the local toyota dealer, and the service representative told me that the insulation on the wires of my tundra contains soy which is attractive to rodents.it turns out that 7 wires needed to be overlaid at a cost of $760.it seems to me that putting soy in the insulation around electrical wires is a design flaw that could lead to rodent-caused damage that could lead to safety problems.i did some google research, and it appears that this flaw has been known since at least 2011, and was described in an article in motor age magazine.i do not know if rodent-damaged wires have cause any automobile accidents, but they are causing american consumers a great deal of money.for example, i read the testimony of a 2012 toyota highlander owner who had rodent-caused damage that required $6,400 in repairs.
2011 toyota tundra check engine light, 2lo, and traction control light all came on.took to dealer, dealer found rodent damage to wiring harness.replaced wiring harness and cleaned out mouse nest.rodents were attracted to soy based wiring used in tundra trucks.over $600 in damage, not covered by toyota, but should be!

I was driving my truck on the highway and it slowed down severely and i was concerned about getting into a wreck.i went to a mechanic and had a p2441 code
?on 12/26/2014, i started my tundra, placed it into gear after a 30 second pause and proceeded to literally stand on my breaks to stop the vehicle from lurching forward.the back tires spun causing smoke to emanate from the screeching tires.at the time i placed the vehicle in gear, a pedestrian was walking in front of the tundra.i almost squashed them.?
My 2011 toyota tundra has experienced issues with the internal climate control system from day 1 of purchase.i have discussed this with toyota and have had in for service at least 5 times.the recirculation button (which is electronic, not manual) will automatically switch off while driving every three (3) minutes and allow outside air to flow in.while quite annoying at times, it is especially dangerous when i visit my cabin in julian california in the winter, and the switch to outside air blows in the outside 20 degree f weather, while driving 20 miles down a very dark (no lighting) and very curving road populated by many deer.my attention is focused on the center climate center, and not the road ahead.toyota has given me many explanations, several which were incorrect, and now they just concede that it's working exactly as designed.their rehearsed answer is that all cars should only be driven with the outside air coming in to avoid recirculated moisture damage to the interior.this does not work in freezing weather!i've been on the web to the tundra forum, and others voice the same complaint.an air recirculation control which will not stay engaged and allows in extreme cold weather, diesel fumes, etc. Is a safety issue.toyota has shown me theoptions within the computer, and there are apparently no options to override this issue.any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.thank you, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Horn does not operate the only time it works is when turning the steering wheel.
My vehicle first had its wiring harness destroyed by a rodent of some sort a couple of weeks ago. After sending it to the repair shop and $7000 dollars later, i brought my truck home and everything worked fine. I tried many remedies to discourage the rodents from returning but nothing seems to deter them from the soy based insulation on my trucks wiring harness. I now have to send my truck back for repairs to the same wiring harness ($7000) as before, and also another wiring harness which will probably cost close to the same. How can toyota get away with making insulation out of rodent food when these wires operate the abs braking system? this practice not only puts a financial burden on the owner but also compromises their safety.
Door locks will not operate righton driver side back door.

Recall secondary air injection system - toyota recalled this part up to 2010 and has excluded the 2011.extended warranty will not cover this part because toyota is aware of this problem and the extended warranty has a bulletin including the 2011.toyota will not cover this part because toyota excludes the 2011.this is a $2,500 repair.check engine light came on, poor acceleration then occurred, vehicle would not accelerate.we were on a 4 lane highway in town.
I was driving my truck on the highway and it slowed down severely and i was concerned about getting into a wreck.i went to a mechanic and had a p2441 code
My car has only 31914 mileage and i need to replace "air pumps kit" . I went to one of the dealers toyota in southflorida named; "headquarter toyota"and they charged me $3116.63 for this replacement.
My truck is smoking while driving as if to catch on fire from the cam towerseals leaking . This has happened several times and the last time it happened was january 14 2018.this is a safety hazard and fire hazard. I had my grand kids in the truck at the time, one has luekemia. I don't want it to burn us all up in thetruck. Cam tower seal was leaking from both sides. They also found valve cover was leaking as well. This was a great safety concern due to fire hazard. Factory defect due to insufficient seal applied to the matting surfaces. Defect need to be taken care of please.
While driving the check engine light came on and i lost propulsion power resulting in vehicle slowing down and almost creating an accident from behind. I had the vehicle checked via a obd2 code checker which resulted in code p2442. After verifying code, it looks as if it is a faulty air intake. Looking through several sources on the internet, it seems to be a very common problem that toyota is refusing to acknowledge or repair. Please take this issue into consideration and help the consumer.fuel propulsion system i purchased my 2011 tundra quarter end 2011. It has less than 100k miles and is well maintained by the dealer. Late may 2017 e light came on and i took the vehicle to the dealer to have this checked. I learned that i had an issue with the secondary air injection system. The estimated cost of the repair was quoted at $3,000
Well known issue with v8 air intake pump and assembly causes truck to go into limp mode. Very dangerous in atlanta traffic. Toyota enhanced warranty but did not recall. My repair was $3000 as i was 3 weeks out of warranty.
High idle -cold start, truck starts in morning or when left for a time at 1600-1800 rpm it sounds like its screaming,,stays there for appox 3 minutes then goes to 1300 and 1100 but does not drop down after 5 min ,if vehicles is driven or put in gear ,depending on how long up wait the truck will pull you along by itself, then after 1/4 or half mile idle comes down 750-800 rpm, toyota says its normal can be driven ,i specifically asked the asstservice manager,to show me in toyota manual what the cold start idle speed is toyota spec are,he would retrieve info and did not, truck did not have this problem from the start just about 3 months old ,been to dealership 5 times ,they say it fine and normal,no codes, according to internet and other complaints it causes piston slap and engine sounds abnormal.
Secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open bank 2.experienced p2442 code and all lights illuminated on dash.truck was started on a cold morning when problem arose. Current mileage on truck is 44,253.warranty for air injection pump system needs to be extended to newer model tundras.there is a current warranty on 2007-2010 model tundras.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. The contact stated while driving at various speeds the vehicle decelerated to 25 mph and did not regain acceleration. The failure was experienced numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealership a diagnostic was performed which located the failure at the secondary air pump system. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the failure mileage was 50,000. Updated9/4/14
Engine oil leaked from valve cover area onto exhaust heat shield within 17k miles of owner ship. This oil leak is known as the tundra cam tower leak and spanned model years 2010 to about 2015. Here's a link to a forum discussing it: http://www.tundratalk.net/forums/tundra-problems-maintenance-repair-dealer-warranty-issues/140601-cam-tower-oil-leak.htmlalso a google search will list many more complaints. The degree of the problem varies, from seeping to a leak where oil leaks onto the exhaust heat shield as was the case for me.the vehicle was repaired and toyota did provide me with an extended warranty to address my concerns about vehicle reliability. Attached is a photo, and photos of the repair receipt with privacy information removed.the last three digits of the vin are visible on the receipt so it can be matched to the vin of vehicle.
Under bulletin pol17-02, my truck falls under the program 10 years and 150,000 miles. I contacted the dealer and they advise my truck isn't covered. I had the problems that was indicated under the warranty enhancement program. I had the truck repaired and i am looking for a reimbursement consideration
On sun. 10/11/14, i drove our tundra on the highway when it lost power.the engine raced and rpms increased, but the speed fell and no acceleration was possible.on a hill, speed fell to about 15 mph.i was on my way to pick up my horse and trailer; if i had been towing them, it would have been catastrophic especially given the highway speed traffic.it was still dangerous even without the trailer.i turned on my hazard lights and limped off."check engine" lit up.took to dealership the next day, who said check engine code was "p2445" for "secondary air injection system water intrusion" requiring replacement of the air pump assembly, air pump inlet, emission valve set, etc. For $2600 because water invaded the system.the service tech said that this was not a known issue, but my internet search showed that toyota issued a 12-page 2011 technical service bulletin, stating that "the air pump assembly inlet has been updated to prevent water intrusion."toyota has neither recalled the defective inlets nor notified owners.the tsb says only trucks under the 36,000/ 3 year warranty are covered.tundras are tow vehicles and it is foreseeable how unsafe this is.because my truck was sold just over 3 years ago, the local dealership at first could not cover it.i contacted toyota headquarters, who referred me back to the local service manager, who then reached southeast regional toyota office, which finally agreed to cover the repair.when this air pump inlet fails, it allows water to enter the air injection system and the system to then fail in the dangerous way that occurred in my case, resulting in a sudden loss of power.i am concerned about this happening to others and that the dealers seem unaware of this tsb and this "known issue."tsb link is here:http://www.autosafety.org/sites/default/files/imce_staff_uploads/t-sb-0160-11.pdf.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle decelerated and stalled. All the instrument panel warning indicators illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was towed to an unknown local toyota dealer, but was not diagnosed due to the diagnostic fees. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. On another occasion, while reversing out of the driveway, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle failure then reoccurred and was towed back to the independent mechanic. The contact was informed that rodents were getting into the engine while the vehicle was parked, and were chewing through the wiring. As a result, the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 60,000.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. While driving at 60 mph, the vehicle decelerated and the engine and slip differential lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that water intrusion codes p2440 and p2441 needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. While driving approximately 60 mph, the abs, check engine, and 4 wheel drive low sensor lights illuminated. The vehicle's speed suddenly reduced to approximately 30 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air pump assembly unit was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 70,000.
Consuming 1 quart of oil every 1k miles is unacceptable! my engine at the time i discovered this only had 50k miles on it. If i wait until my next scheduled oil change (5k-10k) my engine will fail due to low level of oil left, if any.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. While attempting to accelerate, the vehicle hesitated before responding and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The dealer diagnosed that the intake pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to provide a portion of the repair cost. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000. Updated 06/08/17*lj*as
The air pump was failed at traffic lights around 22,000 miles.the vehicle was moved at low speed 10mph to dealer.it was fixed.right now at 27,300 mile tower cam seal was leaked and oil was dripped on exhaust with smell and smoked in cold days.it is very scary danger.i do not feel safe about my truck.i did call toyota corporate for recall, but they denied!there is no way that the cam tower seal is leaked but it is starting dripping more now.i brought the car to dealer and the service advisor told me to call them again.toyota corporate keep denying!!i urged toyota company immediately take care of their fail product.it may get fire because the oil dripping on the exhaust, passenger side.please seriously take care of the problem.
Truck's computer is reading an incorrect perceived alcohol density.truck has a flex fuel engine and the computer is telling the engine that there is ethanol in the fuel system while there is not.i have never run ethanol in the truck yet the computer is reading that there is a 30-50% alcohol density in the fuel.the problems that have resulted from this are missing while under power and power loss while driving.have had my truck to multiple dealers over 5 times now.the dealers have continued to re-flash my truck's ecu only to have the problem to come back because the ecu is a learning ecu.toyota has released a fix for 2012 and 2013 models but not for the 2011 models which is leaving me stranded.i pull a boat frequently and the loss in power has significant negative effects on towing.this problem also causes the engine to run lean resulting in poorer fuel mileage and increased costs for me.i've talked with people at toyota corporate and they have told me that there are no plans to release a fix for the 2011's and that there is basically nothing that i can do.so now i'm stuck with a truck that is reading the fuel wrong and causing the truck to run lean which is surely gradually damaging the engine which i'm sure will result in lots of repairs after the truck is out of warranty.
Valve spring failure
The contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. While driving various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly go into limp mode, the check engine sensor indicator illuminated and the vehicle reduced speed and would not accelerate past 30 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the secondary egr valves were faulty due to corrosion and moisture and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred approximately one year later. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000. Updated 10/13/16*lj
Vehicle has developed a cam tower leak due to improper sealing of mating surfaces during engine assembly causing oil to leak onto exhaust manifolds causing a potential for engine compartment fire according to servicing dealer. Vehicle has less the 45,000 miles and has had regular service by authorized dealer. Dealer representative states that if problem persists vehicle will not pass state mandated safety inspection. Oil burning can be smelled when exiting the vehicle.costs to repair are quoted at $3296 plus taxes.
My 2011 toyota tundra while it was being driven the engine light came on. It was driven to a nearby o' reilly's for a code check. The code was p0418 which is the air induction pump which is an emission's code. The truck then went into a limp mode while driving home on a busy city street which meant it would not accelerate over 35 mph. This is a very dangerous situation not having the ability to go any faster due to an emission's code putting the truck into a limp mode.after researching this problem i found out that toyota has extended the warranty for this air injection pump for the 2007-2010 tundra models. Toyota has refused to help cover the cost for this repair even though it is a known problem on tundras.i read that the same faulty air pump which allows moisture to enter is still being used in my 2011 tundra model.this is a $2,200 repair which toyota should cover since it has occurred to their earlier models and mine as well. Not only is this a costly repair, but also a very dangerous situation when your vehicle is unable to accelerate on an emissions problem.

Cam tower seal problemscurrently my tundra is having a camshaft tower seals problem/gasket. I thought my truck was going to catch on fire several times with my grand kids inside while driving.'.with it smoking on the passenger side. This is highly unusual for a toyota. I thought it would have stopped by now, but it has not. This has been an ongoing problem since i purchased the truck.in doing my research, which i understand is a big repair job as it requires dismantling part of the engine; this is a major problem with this model year that i currently own (2011). There are alsoseveral other model years that it is also happening as well (2011-13), in which again can cause the truck to catch fire, harming or even killing someone. If not completed now or take any action, toyota could lose money. You could even stop lawsuits that will be forthcoming with this issue if someone is harmed or even killed. This is very dangerous!!this is my sixth toyota purchase. The main reasons for me choosing toyota over ford, gm, etc. Are quality and reliability. I would like toyota to fix my issue at no cost to me and maybe recall this error that toyota should be aware of on these model tundra trucks.this honest gesture would bolster my confidence in the reasons i made in purchasing a toyota.
I was driving on the freeway and my tundra would not go past 20 mph. I almost got into an accident on the freeway and had to pull off/exit. I brought it to a toyota dealer for an authorize diagnostic and repair.my secondary injection valve was defective back in january 2016 and the quote price was $2860 from my local toyota dealer. Toyota did not cover the faulty injection until a warranty enhancement letter came out in august 2017 for owner's to submit paperwork.this may affect other toyota tundra and sequoia model as well.
On their 5.7 liter engine knocks when you first take off. Sounds like excessive piston slap from the motor being bored out to big during production. I have contacted a toyota dealer and toyota themselves and was told this is normal. With this excessive clearance it will cause the engine to have a shortened life. The way to fix it is to rebuild it or replace the motor.
Valve spring failure at 136,124 miles while driving to work. Truck ran fine, no problems before this, extended warranty expired end of last year. Still financed and owe over 13,000 for truck.motor ruined .
The contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. While driving approximately 50 mph up a hill, the speed independently decreased to 25 mph without warning. The failure recurred on several occasions while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that the check engine warning indicator was constantly illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the secondary air pump was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. Updated 12/03/15*lj
Secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open bank 2. Experienced p2442 code and vsc illuminated on dash. Truck was started on a normal morning when problem arose. Current mileage on truck is 64,277. Warranty for air injection pump system needs to be extended to newer model tundras. There is a current warranty on 2007-2010 model tundras
Vehicle would not accelerate past 40mph. This occurred suddenly while driving. Dealership determined it was air injection pump failure.after discussion with master mechanic and a service manager i found that this problem was diagnosed it earliermodels up to and including 2010 tundra where toyota took care of the repair . But they continued to use this part until late 2011. My truck was delivered in fall of 2010 and had the older style part. They changed the part design and now it prevents moisture to enter the pumpand prevents corrosion which caused pump failure.the original part had flared head tubing and no seal the new design has a sealed tube end. Toyota new this would fail yet they did not make the recall i have requested a reimbursement but the have so far failed to do so this cost me over $2400 this expense should be entirely on toyota
S10 appropriate handling-letter to the secretary from re copy of a letter addressed to mr. Genachaowki regarding his new 2011 toyota tundra pick up truck *tgwthe consumer stated when he purchased the vehicle, it came with a trial subscription to sirius xm satellite radio. The consumer stated the subscription did not end and the company tries to force consumers into purchasing the package.
The lens cover on vehicle headlights are not clear after several years of use, they are becoming fogged over because they are made out of plastic and the sand from other vehicles going down the road sandblast them. This causes the headlight to not project the light down the road causing the vehicle to out drive the headlights. This can cause vehicle accidents and pedestrian involved accidents. They used to be made from glass and i would like to know why this is not a safety issue that is being addressed. Thank you.

I got stopped and issued a $187.00 violation by the police in ca as my truck parking, (amber lights) were on during driving in the daytime.this truck is wired so the amber (parking light lens) are on when the engine is running so to the police it is the same as driving with parking lights on which is illegal under ca vc 24800 and most other states.this makes my vehicle illegal to operate as well as a safety issue because people do not know if the vehicle is moving or not (the very reason for parking lights). No country in the world allows amber parking lens to be used as daylight running lights. This is a safety issue and it also makes me libel to get stopped and ticketed every time i drive this vehicle in the daytime.
The check engine light and the acs light came on while driving. The truck went into a "limp" mode and would not accelerate properly. I took the vehicle to bob tyler toyota in pensacola florida. They determined that it was the air injection pump in the emission's system. They stated that the pump had water in it.my extended warranty would not cover the repairs stating it was a known toyota problem for my vehicle. The warranty company sent me a toyota service bulletin (t-sb-0160-11). The bulletin clearly states that in some 2007 - 2011 model year tundra vehicles that water intrusion into the air injection pump assembly occurs.the current recall notice is for 2007-2010 tundras. That recall should be extended to cover 2011 tundras since it is a known problem. Attached is the toyota service bulletin and bob tyler's service / repair order.
After fueling vehicle, vehicle spits and sputters under moderate acceleration. Took to dealership and alcohol density was 41%, so it is not re-calculating fad, its a 2011 so toyota doesn't honor the problem because its not a 2012 or 2013 although it has the exact same problem.
Check engine light came on and i ask was it a recall on the air injection and secondary air pumps needs to be replaced. Maintence person said it should have showed up on his computer at the shop. I was driving when that check engine light came on and air switching valves.
I was driving my truck on the highway and it slowed down severely and i was concerned about getting into a wreck.i went to a mechanic and had a p2441 code
Fuel tank fuel sending unit bad.i was pulling out it traffic when the vehicle suddenly died.some people stopped to help me push it over to the curb.had it towed to the repair shop.they reported back the vehicle was out of gas and that the fuel tank fuel level sending unit was bad.the repair is $600+.the vehicle has just over 65,000 miles on it.an internet search shows this is a somewhat common problem and has been since 2002 model year.i called toyota and as expected they are not willing to do anything relative to covering the problem.(case number 1611010676). The fuel gauge was reading just under 1/4 of a tank and the low fuel light was not on when the issue occurred.
Tundra secondary air pump code po418 checkengine light. Vibration on acceleration. Code given on startup.
The secondary air injection pumps are defective. The vehicle shutdown and reduced speed dramatically while in operation. I was driving 55 mph and the engine suddenly lost power.
Fuel propulsion systemi purchased my 2011 tundra quarter end 2013. It has less than 100k miles and is well maintained by the dealer. Late august 2016 the check engine light came on and i took the vehicle to the dealer to have this checked. I learned that i had an issue with the secondary air injection system. The estimated cost of the repair was quoted at $3,360.00. As a long time owner or driver of toyota vehicles of 35 years, i was shocked in that i had never experienced such issues. I purchase toyota because i trust the quality, reliability and design. I understand that toyota has recalled and is covering the cost of the replacement for vehicles 2007-2010. There appears to be an issue with the 2011 models and this should be investigated and the coverage expanded to include this year as well. The new technology was not in place when my car was manufactured. This defect creates unsafe conditions for the driver to navigate busy highways or country roads. I have this truck for hauling on occasion and i am so thankful that i did not have livestock in tow. The dealer reached out to toyota for assistance in the replacement.i believe that the total cost should be covered in that it is a known defect/issue that still was not corrected when my car was manufactured. Most owners may not take the time to register a complaint. I wonder how many owners have had the same experience. I have not provided technical information here in that this is a known defect and i experienced all the effects of the defect while driving.

Please take this issue into consideration and help the consumer.

At about 2,000 miles ago the transmission started shaking and rumbling mainly when it was in 5th gear. The diagnosis of the problem is that the transmission is going bad and will need replaced for $3,000. The truck only have 90k on it, and i cannot afford to have it replaced. At just over 90k on the truck the transmission should not already be going out.
Truck is a 2011 toyota tundra with 66,000 miles.truck has been diagnosed with faulty left rear axle bearing that is creating a howl type noise while driving.noise is predominant at 30-40 mph.toyota needs to extend t-sb-0013-13 for certain 2011 model tundras.
I am very concerned about a noise in the front end of the truck (front differential and shaft) while the car is running still on cold and at a speed lower than 50mph. I do not know if it could lead me to have a car accident into the city. I have seen many other people with the same complain with absolutely new tundras. I wonder if it is about time for toyota tundra put hands on it and fix this old problem.
When parking on my driveway in the winter and move the gear selector to park, the transmission does not lock in park.the vehicle remains in neutral. Today i was halfway out of the vehicle when the truck started to roll downhill. One foot was on the ground and i was falling backward. Luckily i was able to grab the wheel to keep myself from falling under the vehicle. I have no doubt that my injuries would have been significant had i not grabbed the wheel. I reported this to the dealership last year when this first occurred. The dealer said they did not find a thing wrong.
The vehicle exhibits an intermittent rubbing or metal-on-metal grinding noise from the rear wheels when making turns. Inspection revealed that the rear brake disks are rubbing on the metal brake disk shield during lateral loading experienced in turns. The problem has gotten more frequent and more pronounced over the past 12-18 months and 10-15k miles. Toyota believes the cause is failed rear axle bearings. The vehicle has about 72k miles and has always been serviced regularly and at a toyota dealership. Toyota has a technical service bulletin (t-sb-0013-13) on the issue but they claim this is normal wear and will not warranty the problem. In my opinion this is a serious defect of a major drive train system and not normal wear.
A clunking noise coming from rear driveshaft when coming to a complete stop at low speeds. Feels like a drop in the rear end or a slight bump after setting still for a few seconds.
Car is losing power while driving.
Bought truck new with 99 miles showing, testdrive pulled hard to right ,extremely hard brought back to dealership 3 days later to perform its first alignment, they did several that day , more than 16 alignment at that dealership truck still tracks right, every dip in road ,any bump ,truck veers right, july 2012 i had lemon law proceeding ,the man came out and didn't drive ,just sat in pass seat, dealership had the truck overnight once in june2012 and once in july 2012 before to fix issue, which did get better, then was denied cause it is under warranty, truck had oil change around nov2012 and i complained again ,about front end dog tracking ,they said its normal and no fix needed ,but the truck was fixed from dog tracking but not put in writing, still veers right, now this truck has had problems like major vibration, replaced driveshaft at 2500 miles, dealership replaced wheels twice trying to figure where its coming from, while braking it pulled hard to right and had to fight steering wheel ,now this is from the start it could literally take the car out on the side of you, with a crown or no crown the pulling right is excessive, and was about 80 % worst but i want it fixed correctly, can anyone help me get this truck to roll straight,im at 21,900 miles ,yes i have paper work .
I put vehicle in park and got out to close a gate on my farm property. When i realized the vehicle started rolling backwards, i tried to get back in to stop it. The door knocked me down and pick up almost ran over me. I did a backwards summersalt to get out of the way of rolling pickup. When i was finally able to get up and get to pick up, it had slowed due to the jack knifing of the bale buggy i was towing. Plastic and rubber in the shifter had to be pushed back inside shifter case before i could put back in park position. Later that same day, i put in park in parking lot and it jumped into reverse again. Luckily i was still in vehicle. I believe the problem is in the shifter console but actual problem is unknown. This has happened a total of 4 times. Twice i was out of vehicle. Twice i was still in drivers seat. Only one time did this problem result in injury.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 1 mph, he noticed a grinding noise from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle would not accelerate and the brake pedal seized. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure and stated that the anti-slip had activated, caused the throttle to disengage and the brakes to engage, which he stated was a characteristic of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. On a later date while the contact was driving 75 mph in inclement weather, the brakes engaged independently and caused him to crash into a ditch. The contact was not injured. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 40.
While driving to work one morning, my brake pedal went directly to the floor with almost no stopping capability. After finally getting the vehicle to stop, the pedal felt normal. The next day a similar situation occurred. Since the occurrences were inconsistent in timing, situation and driving conditions, it was not easy to replicate. Upon taking it to a local dealership, they had the same difficulty causing it to happen. Although, on their "last" try, it went to the floor. Local dealership could not diagnose the specific issue and called in an engineer from toyota. Ultimately, since they could not isolate one specific failure, they decided that the *main components of brake system should be replaced. *main components include master cylinder, brake booster and abs actuator. As the service technician indicated that they had seen several of these, i began a case with toyota motors usa to try and get a clear understanding whether they thought this to be an issue. After all, this vehicle is marketed as having one of the most robust brake systems in its class. Toyota motors usa indicated in emails that they had no interest in reviewing and told me that as the customer, i had every right to choose another brand if i disagreed with their position. Since brakes are an essential safety system in a vehicle, it should be a primary concern to them in order to evaluate potential failures where the outcome could be far worse.

The contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. While driving and depressing the brake pedal, it traveled all the way to the floorboard. The contact stated that the vehicle took longer to come to a complete stop. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to mike calvert toyota (2333 s loop w, houston, tx 77054, (713) 558-8100) where it was determined that the rear brakes needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,500. The vin was unknown.

When engaging brake pedal to stop if my foot is to the right on the pedal the spongy brake pedal to continues almost to the floor thus causing me to press on the accelerator pedal causing the truck to accelerate when i need to stop, very dangerous.
Noise in brakes when going slowly and turning right. Took to my mechanic he let me know this is happening to many 2007-2013 tundra's and there is a service bulletin on it tsb0013-13 however it is not a recall yet so it is not covered by toyota. To repair this problem they had to remove the old bearing assemblies, and replace both rear backing plates & bearings, front & back rotors, front & rear pads, which brought this to a grand total of $1,817.24.my mechanic and the mechanic from the toyota dealer, where i purchased the truck, informed me that if this procedure was not done the brakes would eventually go out at some point. This is definitely a huge safety risk and i am not sure why this is not considered a recall yet. I urge toyota to reconsider this problem and qualify it as a recall.
Rack and pinion seal failed, lost all fluid, lost power steering on highway.
While driving my power steering began to fail. After inspection a power steering leak was discovered on the drivers side rack and pinion under the boot.

This safety complaint relates to the "tilt latch mechanisms" of a 2011 toyota tundra's steering wheel, the set of mechanisms used to release/safely secure the steering wheel in place. There were at least two parts among the latching mechanisms, one being plastic & the other being a metal alloy, broke off and into pieces. It was fortunate that the problem was found when i went to lower the steering wheel while cleaning my vehicle.had the pieces shattered and fallen off while the vehicle was in motion, a fatal accident could have been resulted from loss of steering wheel control. At the time of the finding, the vehicle had 37118 miles. Such safety mechanisms ought to be designed with specifications so that they would last more than two or three times of use. I recall, at least once, seeing the steering wheel dropped with the latch lever hanging down half way without anyone touching it within the first 25000 miles.but my assumption was that a technician might have adjusted the steering wheel and didn't latch it back properly. The technician who was working on my repair had told me that my vehicle would be the second vehicle he had worked on for the same issue. And through online research, i have found that while there are not a high volume of complaint of the same issue, there are owners reporting the exact same issue. As the toyota dealer had told me, their toyota regional service and parts manager had decided to cover for the replacement of the entire steering column and expecting me to pay for the labor cost. Sharing the repairing cost is not as much of a concern as the major concern of safety. As i had mentioned above, the outcome from the failure of latching mechanism is unlimited, and the cost of such incident(s) could be fatal accident and/or would be many times the cost of repairing the vehicle. Therefore, this serious matter should be thoroughly investigated.
I was driving my tundra when i heard a loud noise.i then lost my steering ability.it was very difficult to make any turns.when i was able to stop, looked under the vehicle and saw some type of fluid leaking very fast.i opened the hood and saw i have no power steering fluid.i had the car towed to the dealership and they said the power steering seal blew causing me to lose my steering ability. I was also told by the dealership that this has happened to at least 600 other cars.
Power steering fluid drained out of the reservoir and into the rack and pinion boot. There were no evidence of fluid leaks until the rack and pinion boot exploded on the driver side. The vehicle was in park and when i turned the steering wheel completely to the left is when the boot exploded.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. While driving 35 mph, there was an abnormal whining noise coming from the steering wheel. After a few moments, the steering seized without warning. The contact managed to drive to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering pump and belt failed and needed to be replaced. The pump and belt were replaced; however, the rack and pinion needed to be repaired by a dealer. The vehicle was towed to peoria toyota (7401 n allen rd, peoria, il 61614, (309)-354-3894) where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was currently being repaired by the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that no warranties were available and the tsb had expired. The manufacturer provided case number: 1910213072. The contact referenced tsb nhtsa id number: 10134363. The failure mileage was approximately 83,694.
The steering is very difficult at times and feels like something is binding. There is no steering wheel return.no fluids are leaking and the fluid level in the power steering reseviour is normal.this happens when the vehicle is moving and turning. Going down a straight road binding can be felt when you move from side to side in your lane by moving the steering wheel left or right.
Rack and pinion seals failed causing the power steering fluid to leak inside the boots on the end of the rack and pinion assembly therefore not leaking onto the ground so there was no indication of a problem until the power steering fails to work properly while driving the vehicle. Toyota is aware of the defect but refuses to admit there is a faulty part or design problem.
Rack and pinion failed, making it very difficult to steer while i was driving. Fortunately i was in a residential neighborhood and was driving slow.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. While driving 60 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering column failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.
Power steering rack seal is blown after backing into driveway.truck is stock, no modifications.
I was finished doing my oil change and noticed my rack and pinion boot had an oil leak on the passenger side, i wiped it off and it seems like a small leak for now. The truck on has 73.2k miles on it and it's completely stock, no modifications at all. It's a daily driver and is strictly street driven, no off roading. The rack and pinion shouldn't leak at all with this low mileage and being stock.
Rack and pinion failed, making it very difficult to steer while i was driving. Fortunately i was in a residential neighborhood and was driving slow.
The bed of my 2011 tundra is rusting through from the bottom up.the truck has had a topper over the bed since shortly after purchasing brand new and has never spent a night outside of the garage.the rust issue could be a safety hazard as the frame or other components could be compromised in a crash if they are not structurally sound.
Like many others on here, my truck bed and structure has rusted over certain supports from the bottom up.my vehicle has had a topper since it was new, and it has now developed heavy rust under the paint in the front corners over a brace.there are many forum entries and complaints about this issue.
2011 toyota tundra bed cover mounting hardware failed during driving causing the entire bed cover to fly off. The installation hardware apprear to be too small to keep the hard cover falling off. The result is a potential dangerous situation should this happen at speed with a car behind. The screws are surprisly small and loosen themselves over time. This cover came as an option from toyota but does not have a toyota label.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. The contact noticed rust in the bed of the vehicle and heard an abnormal rattlingnoise. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact called stoltz toyota of dubois (860 beaver dr, dubois, pa 15801, (814) 371-3333) and was referred to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contact and provided case number: 1907082535. No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 92,835.
Paint bubbling or rusting in the floor of the bed of the truck. Numerous spots. Couple months out of warranty and they won't cover it.
Rust has developed near the corners of the truck bed. Near the beds mounting bolts. The bed has been covered since new and never exposed to weather.
I bought a 2011 toyota tundra crewmax, that was lifted and had different wheels and tires put on by the dealership prior to me purchasing the truck, around october of 2011. I found it to be slightly pulling left so i thought it needed an alignment done so call russel toyota in catonsville and was told to drive for awhile to make sure and its not the roads. At about 2000 mile i call the dealership again and made an appointment to drop off the truck. A week later i dropped off the truck at the dealership for an alignment and metal noise coming from the front driver wheel area and was called back later that day to pick it up and bring it back when the weather was nicer so i picked up the truck. I got back from vacation and dropped off the truck at the dealership for alignment, noise from the front drivers wheel area, oil change. I was told it will take a day or more. I was call back by the dealership 4 days later saying the oil change was done but that the alignment problem was my fault because the company that lifted the truck saw scuff marks on the tires from hitting a curb. My service agent got the company to say they would fix the alignment. 3 days later the service agent from the dealership call me and said he couldn't get in contact with the other company but he did it at the dealership. They told me they could not duplicate the noise. I drove the truck and the alignment was worse than before so i call and was told to bring it back and leave it for a few days. I was concerned that they could not find the noise so i checked the front wheel area of my truck and found that the strut was broken so i kind of figure out it was the broken strut that was making my truck pull that direction and the metal noise was coming from there. Russel toyota and the other company is trying not to take responsibility and put the blame on me and i am the victim.

Rear passenger leaf springs failing at 60k miles. I notice the when looking at the truck, it sits unevenly. I've noticed the ride hasn't seemed as stable/sturdy and then noticed the issue with the suspension, i'm assuming its leaf spring related as there are numerous issues mentioned on various forums but i've not noticed a recall issued yet.
2011 toyota tundra rear leaf spring.passenger side leaf spring broke and the piece fell off the truck while i was driving. Car behind me flagged me down to let me know that it fell off the truck and they almost ran it over. I was driving at the time of the incident. I still have the piece of the leaf spring.
Driving and noticed a strange sound coming from my truck.i stopped at a gas station and was told that my leaf spring was cracked.it actually was 2 springs that were cracked.there is no recall on my car at this time, but i have spoken to several mechanics who say this is highly unusual to happen and toyota should be covering this.of course, when i went to the toyota dealership, they would not even look at the charge without charging over a $100 fee since the car was no longer under warranty.i am looking for some help into hoping having this covered by the manufacturer due to a factory problem and not a wear and tear issue.
The air induction pump (aip) on 2007-2010 are covered by an extended warranty up to 10 years due to failures.my 2011 tundra, manufactured in 2010 has the exact same failure and the part is the exact same part that is being replaced on 2010's but it will costs me $2345.00 to have it repaired.toyota knows it has a defective (aip) but refuses to cover the 2011's until enough consumers complain.
While driving on interstate, my truck suddenly became sluggish and would not accelerate.check engine light came on with icon showing a car and traction bars.i drove straight to dealership.3 hours later was told about a code 2440 which caused me to have to replace secondary air valves , pumps and new intake tube.research indicates i am not the only one this has happened to but apparently only 2010 models have been covered.total cost of repairs was about $2421.00so far toyota is refusing to acknowledge this has been an existing problem and stand behind their product.my truck had less than 90k miles and should not be experiencing this sort of major repairs at this mileage.the dealership representative proceeded to explain that my entire vehicle woud shut down and i would have even worse problems without an immediate repair.being a 65 year old female, i was afraid to even drive to another repair shop so was basically scared into a major repair having to pay a lot of money on a limited income.
While driving down the interstate the check engine light and traction control light came on and the vehicle loss engine power and began to slow.after i could not accelerate and it became unsafe for me to drive without the possibility of an accident occurring and possible injury or death,i pulled over and had to limp vehicle back home.toyota refuses to fix it saying it only offers replacement on the 2007-2010 toyota vehicles.the defective part number is the same on my 2011 as all the other toyotas but they stopped covering it in the later models.the dealer said they had to repair so many that at one time there was a 60 day backlog on parts.this is ridiculus and toyota is risking the lives of those that drive their product.i will have to pay to fix this on top of what i paid for the vehicle.i will warn everyone i can reach to never buy a toyota. Toyota has become a company of subpar customer support and deserves every class action suit they get filed against them.whoever begins one on these failed air injection pumps count me in for the refund and the mental anguish of trying to get toyota to stand behind their product!!! this could have cost me my life!!! unsafe!!!
Failure of the air injection system switching valve (code p2440).vehicle was left to operate with low throttle response, and "limp mode"
I bought this truck new, the door locks have never worked right.i have had the relay or motors that work the door locks fixed 6 or 7 times, and have one going bad now on the driver side front door. This will be the 3rd time for this door.they say they know they have a problem with these but will not do a recall on them.this is not the only model having trouble with this.i cant lock my truck some times this is a problem . Will any thing be done are will they keep putting faulty parts on my truck till something shorts out!!!!!!!!!!!
Rack and pinion steering leaki do not have lift kit on the truck it has been leaking since the truck has had 15000 and the trunk has 49200 on it they sead it was underwarrantynot happy
Have had trouble with all the door locks ,some of them 4 or 5 times.the dealer said toyota knew theyhad a problem with these .they have fixed under warranty till the back door and the front door locks quit working ,then wanted to charge me to fix.the back door has been fixed 4 times already .maybe this is a grease problem!!! this is clearly a saftey issue!!! i want my stuff made good!!!!!!
Please take this issue into consideration and help the consumer.
The horn on my 2011 toyota tundra stopped working about 1 year ago. I had it looked at at a repair shop and they could not find the problem. It actually worked for a few weeks intermittently then quit again.this is a safety issue and cannot get a passed inspection without the horn working.i filed a complaint with toyota a year ago and they would not take any responsibility.i am retired, cannot afford to take it to a dealership without fearing it will cost me an arm and a leg.is there anything you can do?all toyota wants to do is sell me a new vehicle. My vehicle is paid off.the date i have submitted is an approximate date when i had it looked at. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. The contact stated that while parked and shifting to drive, the vehicle accelerated independently. The failure occurred multiple times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

Explained problem to service adviser. Mentioned truck was in limp mode , i will pull battery terminal to reset code in order to get out of limp mode so i can drive 105km to dealership for repair. Alpine toyota worked on truck for one hour wile i waited. After one hour alpine toyota informed me they could not repair truck without a code present.
This problem is dangerous it will not pickup th speed on a busy road it is common problem which is not covered by toyota warranty.
The contact owns a 2011 toyota tundra. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The contact was able to stop the vehicle by applying the brakes. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test but the technician was unable to locate a failure.the manufacturer was notified of the issue and advised the contact that they would further assess the failure.the failure mileage was 16,600.
A tree branch struck the rear window of the truck, shattering the tempered glass.shards of glass as long as 6" were thrown throughout the cab of the vehicle.
The tundra is a 2011 and the rear driver side wheel has been the issue.i was on a city street about 2am when a loud crash and thundering made driving very hard.the rear wheel had sheared off and was passing me by as i slowed down sparks flying like the fourth of july!!i had been going 25 miles an hour in a residential setting.i had the truck towed to the dealer whom agreed this was an obscure occurrence, to which they warrantied and fixed it.this occurred at 250,000 miles so that seemed like a satisfactory ending! however, at 3500 miles later going 70mph down interstate 20 at 4 ama horrendous crash ( noise)and almost flipping the same tire sheared again passing me by!!i was lucky that i didnt flip!toyotas explantion... They couldnt/wouldnt provide me one but did fix my problem as the friction sanded down into the rotor and shock absorber hanger!!not sure if other folks have had this experience?? i did encouter another fellow (my son) whom had the same experience at 250,000 miles on the driver side rear with a toyota tundra 2012 he owned.this is very dangerous and needs to be addressed as to what the root cause is!!i felt like toyota took care of me repair wise but never got a straight answer from them on the cause!!i would appreciate your agency and its resources looking into what is causing this dangerous condtion
