Their has not been an incident yet, i am just trying to avoid a bad situation, but not getting any help from toyota's end. I have brought in my tundra multiple times to get the airbags checked out and they always said their was no problem. Then now i receive a recall letter in the mail and immediately call and setup an appointment because i am fixing to leave town for a new job. We set one up for july 30th and then a few days later i get a call and they cancelled the appointment because they don't have the airbag parts. I leave town this weekend, the 1st, in the tundra with the recall and will be driving around texas doing commercial construction work. I am trying to work with the dealership to get things done but the manager, jeff, just pretty much said ol well we can't do anything for you. He never offered a rental or any other alternative to them not having the parts. I got a call from megan at the corpus dealership and she has been more than helpful trying to figure out a solution or some alternative so i am not driving around in a deathtrap for the next 6 months. Your rental policy won't work very well considering i work 6-7 days a week and won't be near a dealership so i might not be able to just leave my new job to come switch vehicles with you. The inconvenience should be on the dealership/manufacturer, not the individual who paid for the vehicle. I hope to see some better customer service from toyota, but i guess if something happens while i have to drive the tundra around. I will just join the lawsuit
Received a notice from toyota on june 16 2015 saying that it is unsafe to drive the car with someone in the front passenger seat due to faulty air bag inflator which may rupture and seriousely injure the passenger. Notice said that the dealer would replace the item when they get the parts. It is now october 2, 2015 and the dealer stil not have the part. Toyota says the part is not available and does not know when it will be. This is unacceptable for the largest car manufacturer in the world not to have a part needed to fix a potentially fatal defect over 3 months from notification. In the mean time my use of the truck is severely restricted, i can't sell the truck due to disclosure issues. This is another case of puttng corporate profits ahead of customer's lives. I will not buy another toyota.
Manufacturer and dealership is not responsive in trying to remedy the air bag issue. I'm receiving multiple reminders to get my vehicle fixed for the takata air bag recalls. I have 2 outstanding issues. I called autonation toyota in hayward, ca. They said they'd call me back as they had to order the parts. Almost 2 months later, i called to follow-up as they never called me back. They then told me that it shows in their records that they serviced my vehicle and remedied the issue.if you look at the online records, it shows that the 2 recalls are still unremedied. Also, i would know if i brought my vehicle in for the repair.i talked to a person named julian at the dealership.
I'm unable to get a urgent safety recalled airbag replaced on my toyota truck. Dealership claims they are only 'allotted' so many airbags....
We received the recall notice in june of 2015 and contacted our local dealer in elgin, il. They told me parts are forth coming and would put me on the list. Today 11/23/2015 i called again there is no list and no information on parts being sent. The vehicle can not have riders and is useless to us for the most part!5 months for parts really!!!can you help us here???

There has been no incident at this time, but my concern is that i have been driving around in this unsafe vehicle for the last 6 years, endangering the lives of my wife, friends, and business associates while you guys were busy litigating this decision which should have been made as soon as they knew of the defect, not 3 or 4 or 5 years later. This is completely unacceptable, as is this ridiculous "remedy" and recommendation that we have nobody ride in the front seat. I use my truck for my 2 businesses that i run and i have people that ride in the front seat every day because the back seat is full of my tools. I don't understand why, after knowing about this problem for as long as toyota has known, that they still don't have the parts to immediately get these vehicles fixed. My wife and i have been toyota owners for many years, but we will never buy one again if this is the way they treat their customers.
Recall states serious injury of death may occur if air bag deploys.this seriously limits the utility of the vehicle since no one can ride in the front passenger seat - limiting the passengers to four.toyota has made no effort to mitigate this problem - an unknown replacement date is not a good faith effort.toyota needs to turn off the passenger air bags in the affected vehicles.two door trucks have switches to turn off the air bag when children are in the passenger seat.why not simply disconnect the switch so that the air bag will not deploy.to not do so, does not make sense.i know that if involved in a crash, air bags can save lives - except in this case when they will do more harm than good.toyota has absolved itself of liability by providing notification - but 5 months without taking any kind of action to mitigate the problem is excessive.it is time to remedy the problem or i would suggest that you tell toyota they need to provide me with a new truck - that would probably get their attention.(is there any other agency i can contact to register a complaint?)

Safety recall notice received on this vehicle in may, 2015 for defective airbag.i called the eastern shore toyota dealership, daphne, al and spoke to service tech. Benjamin.benjamin said toyota is not manufacturing the parts for the recalled airbags so the airbag can not be repaired at this time.benjamin said the parts manufacturer will not make parts until september 2015. This is a dangerous situation.the dealership refused to make the repair as stated in the safety recall notice i received in the mail. The recall notice specifically states to not drive the vehicle due to the problems with the humidity and airbag deployment causing serious injury or potential death to anybody in the passenger seat of the vehicle.the manufacturer of the part is taking so much time to send the parts to make repairs.

Takata recall--we have not received replacement parts for recall of side curtain air bags. We have been very distressed regarding the takata bags containing shrapnel-like substances & told replacement bag in passenger side (that was already replaced once) is also defective. We are very concerned as we transport grandchildren in this vehicle. This vehicle is a danger to our family & we want to know when it will be safe. There was also a recall on the undercarriage rusting. We got the spray done on that. When will this vehicle be safe? it has been reliable, just very stressful regarding saftey issues.

I just received a notice from toyota that stated they were just now confirming that the passenger side air bags on my tundra need to be replaced due to possible defects. Unfortunately that truck is now in my daughters possession in middle tennessee where she's attending college. Toyota knew about the possibility of these defective air bags over a year ago and now they're just beginning to send out notices? to make matters worse is when i called their hotline i was told that they don't have the parts in yet to fix the issue! that a second notice will come out to advise us when it can be taking to a dealership to get fixed. I'm gravely concerned because as you may already know tennessee is a very humid state in the summer and the letter states that humidity may be a factor. How can this fix be expedited? i tried to keep up with all the recalls and the truck is in excellent condition, i just think that toyota is trying to cover their rear ends by sending this letter out without any tentative date for a resolution. Please help us consumers...
Takata recall.was made aware of recall via the media.verified by using web site and vin #.contacted dealer (mike johnson's toyota of hickory), was told my vehicle was not on the list.in dec. 2015, received safety recall notice that my vehicle was indeed on the list.contacted dealer 5 times since, each time with promise to check and call me back.last time 2 weeks ago.no call back.i need (1) repairs done, or (2) written notice my vehicle is safe for front seat passengers, or (3) a loaner vehicle.i think 3+ months with no repairs or even a scheduled repair is indeed excessive.
We have been trying to get the air bag replacements for the recall done. So far none are available. We received the recall letter from toyota and it has the warning not to let anyone ride in the passenger side. This has made our vehicle unable to be used for most of 2015. We only put 1,000 miles on it. With them giving us the warning the vehicle is not safe and if we were to have an accident toyota's liability would be void since they sent out a notification letter per our attorney. I want them to buy back our vehicle so we can replace it with a truck that is safe for us to use. As it now e cannot sell it and avoid the liability if something should happen with the new owner. My husband had an accident last january and neither of the airbags deployed.
Air bag recall. Alan jay toyota removed original air bag because of recall then replace air gab with a used salvage air bag. After i complained to manager, they tried to clean up air bag cover so it would match dash. They couldn't get clean or remove the sticky tacky substance on cover. They said it was a new air bag and that was the way they come or must of gotten dirty installing. I said i don't believe that explanation so they said they would order a new air bag. On a follow up call to get new air bag replacement they say now they want to clean it up again and paint to match dash color. The photos are after they cleaned air bag cover and said it was brand new. I don't feel this is the way the air bag recall was intendedso therefore i am complaining.

"takata recall"on or around august 23, 2016 i called a toll free phone number either off a recall notification flyer i received in the mail or from a voice message on our home phone regarding the passenger airbag inflator on my 2005 toyota tundra truck.they asked where i wanted my vehicle fixed and i chose wilde toyota (3225 s 108th st, west allis, wi) since that is where i bought the truck from and have done a variety of repairs on this and other vehicles. The operator called their service department and i was notified the part would need to be ordered.i wasn't given any time frame, but i assumed it couldn't take long.i called wilde toyota today (september 13, 2016), and i was informed it was ordered as promised, but it would take 3 months!!i was never notified of this.i was told i shouldn't have someone in the front passenger seat.how does toyota expect a vehicle to be used for 3 months without allowing a passenger in the front seat.i don't understand why they wouldn't have an inventory on hand to handle quick turnaround.i understand it could be hard to manage , but 3 months is ridiculous.

Ever since i got it 2 years ago the steering has not been right with random vibration from the steering wheel to feeling like im trying harder to make it go straight. And also a clunk at low speed turns/ vibration on freeway. I was told the rack was going so i replaced it with new poly bushings and tie rods. Helped a little but no, got new rims and tires and no difference still vibration on freeway. It's weird if i pull down on the steering wheel it makes it less worse. Also it feels like all this is wearing my power steering pump as it's the only thing covered in oil under my hood. I'm. Seriousy scared to drive it on the freeway cause of the over correcting and vibration. I only have 82k on it. When i got it from the dealership nothing was said. I'm the second owner.i still have the original rack but the problem is still there. Service was done by independent shop. Airbag stickers on passenger visor are gone and passenger airbag cover sticks out more the it should i think. I received the car facts from the dealership and nothing is in there for all the recalls. As the website says there are none pending. I would like to get a print out of all recall repairs if possible. I still have the car fax from them.

Takata recall hoover toyota, birmingham al said they would not do the recall because we had replaced the trucks failed computer with a used model.they said that since we did not use an dealership to do the previous repair that they would not do the airbag replacement.they said they would hold the car unless we signed a release of liability form if we picked up the truck without paying them to replace the computer again.calls to toyota corporate received the same response.after a couple hours of threatening, they managed to figure out how to replace the airbag.their reasoning for not being able to do the replacement was that they could not do a health checkup on the truck because the vin number in the trucks computer did not match the trucks vin number.
I received a safety recall notice letter from toyota company several weeks agoinforming me that the passenger air bag in my 2005 toyota tundra may explode metal chards when activated which may cause injury or death to the front seat passenger.they advised me that replacement parts are not available now, but will inform me when parts are made available in this geographic area and the local dealer will repair the vehicle.in the mean time they say "until the remedy becomes available in your location, we recommend that you do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat."when i received the letter, i checked with the local toyota dealer and they indicate that they do not have replacement parts.several weeks have passed and i cannot safely use my vehicle.the letter indicated that toyota would inform me when the new parts had been produced and made available to the local dealer.i haven't heard from them. The toyota co. Should immediately repair my vehicle or provide me a loaner vehicle so that i may resume my typical everday activities.p.s.there has not been an incident.the air bag is still intact, i only indicated todays date as" incident date" to complete a required field on the form so it can be submitted.

Takata recall - several months after i was notified of the recall, my local dealer still does not have the part available
Front passenger air bag and curtain sheild (csa) airbag control module nhtsa recall:16v-065. No complications as of today. 8/15/2015 i received a recall notice for front passenger air back and notice said not to use front passenger seat and parts not available that a second notice would be sent when part was available i have heard nothing until today 3/12/2016 i received a recall for the curtain sheild airbag (csa) airbag control module and this part is not available i will receive a second notice when it is. I looked up the recalls and noticed the first part is available but have not been notified by toyota so i called the vacaville dealer that sold me the truck and works on it to find out why i was not notified and was told they would call me right back in 5 min. I'm still waiting. Toyota and the dealerships need to get moving on these parts and installations now . The thing i'm more worried about now is that when they do replace the bags they are going to mess something else up or pretend to do it and keep the vehicle for days as i have experienced in the past even with an appointment and something as simple as replacing the battery or even an oil change i've had to return because they put the oil filter in wrong and leaked not only did i have to drive back but had to wait for 2 more hours at the end of the line spent a total of 4 hours waiting for oil change a return visit to fix what was not done right and then 1/2 hour of waiting when truck was done because no one came to let me know like they said . I found my truck in the parking lot and had to find someone to find my paper work and see that it was done another 20 min.

2005 toyota tundra limited, i was hit back right middle of tire, caving in truck bed, losing complete control of vehicle, axle and transmission dismantled, went into a 360 spin with back tires completely bent and no control. Then hit head on at a high rate of speed over 35-45 mph. With air-bags not going off! truck was completely rebuilt with hidden cost not released to me. Resulting in truck being rebuilt, when it should'vebeen totaled-out. Still waiting major back surgery after 15 months, loss of work. Insurance companies "hiding" hidden bills that would made my truck over 80% totaled. I need answers and help on why my air bags didn't deploy saving my life i once had, and bills that i didn't have! and yet toyota signs off on my car saying it's safe to drive again with my children on the highways. And now front-end bearings are the #2 recall for the truck resulting in more damage and cost and safety to my family. Please help, if anyone has had problems with air-bag deployment not going off on this state of the art toyota tundra truck!

On 8/17/15 received notice of a recall on passenger air bag.per letter, i will be contacted when parts are available to fix the problem.in the interim, per toyota, passengers are recommended not to use the front seat.if i cannot have the full use of my vehicle, due to a manufacturing issue, then toyota should be supplying a similar vehicle until they can rectify the problem.in many instances i cannot refrain from using the passenger seat.i feel that they will be using this as an escape goat, so that they are not legally liable in case of issues or future incidence that may occur.in the meantime no can tell me when parts will be available to fix the problem.the dealers have no ideas as to when parts will be available.this is a major issue and toyota should be forced to have time schedules as to when parts and repairs will be performed.

Per an urgent safety recall notice i contacted a local dealer.fred anderson of charleston, sc.the dealership informed me that the parts necesary to remedy this recall are on indefinite back order.they referred me to toyaota at 1-800-331-4331 and that there is no expected date to get parts to remedy this recall.i contacted the suggested 1-800 number and was told that the customer relations manager was to call me back within 2 business days to get an answer on a recall remedy.it's been 5 business days adn no retruned call from anyone at toyota.meanwhile, the recal notice infoms me taht noone should ride iin the passenger seat until remedied.i have a vehicle taht toyota has deemed unsafe for passengers, but htey cannot keep commitments on phone calls nor can they tell me when the recall will be remedied.

Notified of safety recall on or about 6/16/2015, dealer# d3f, nhtsa id# 15v285 and an interim notice sometime after that for front passenger airbag inflators. As of yet no parts have been available in nj. And no parts will be available for the foreseeable future??? are you kidding me?? takata apparently knew about this problem since early 2013 and parts are still not available?? and while my vehicle wasn't added to the list until 6/2015, the company knew there was a problem well before that. Having to wait 4-6 months (if i'm lucky) for a recalled part is unacceptable and i realize there are many, many vehicles involved but really?? some people may actually not have their vehicles fully operational or safe for upwards of 2.5 years? is takata or toyota going to pay us for the time these vehicles are not fully operational because when i bought my truck i intended on getting full safe use out of it not partial use. Sorry to blow off steam on you but i am very frustrated, disappointed and concerned with this whole situation as i'm sure many others are. In any event, if you have any additional information on when this part will be available in nj please let me know.
Takata recall -the recall date was 2 february 2016.i received notification in the mail on 3 march 2016.it is now the middle of december 2016 and still no fix.very unhappy with the time element.

Transit bus made rt turn from lt lane invfront of my 2005 toyota tundra. My vehicle skidded and collided with the rear of bus, causing total loss of vehicle. No air bag deployment. Accident investigator with baltimore pd referred me to nhtsa.
Airbag did not deploy in a significant frontal impact.
- the contactcalled regarding a recall for a safety seat.the recall stated the one should manually turn off the air bags if the child sat in the front passenger seat. Because this vehicle didnot have a manual switch the contact stated therecallshould state if onedidnot have a switch thenhe should have an on -off airbag switch installed. Updated 03/30/07.
I started the vehicle, proceeded forward in a strait line, reached +/- 15 mph and the side curtain airbags deployed.i did not hit anything, was not hit and did not roll the vehicle.the ground was very smooth/flat.i received neck injuries and have had headaches ever since.my passenger received whip lash and has lost most of his hearing in his right ear permanently.it took 43 days for a response from toyota (corporate).there position is that there airbag deployment system can not fail.there are 2 additional witnesses beside the driver/passenger who were standing just outside the vehicle when it happened.toyota has not talked to any witnesses nor asked any questions.they have simply maintained that their system can't fail and are refusing to fix the vehicle.i will have to pay for the seatbelts to be replaced out of my pocket but can't afford to replace the airbags or headliner (approximately an additional $6,000).
The engine shut off while i was driving on the road and making a left turn.i realized the engine shut off when i pressed down on the accelerator and nothing happened.the radio was still on the headlight and horn worked.i switched the battery out with a new one.the engine would still not start.i would turn the key and only the radio would turn on.no noise or response from the engine could be heard with old and new battery.vehicle was towed to toyota dealer, they replaced what they said was a blown out ignition fuse.as i drove out of the parking lot from the toyota dealer the engine shut off again exactly how it had occurred before.i was less than one block from the dealer when this happened.it is currently at the toyota dealer.

After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed the fire was burning on the floor of the front drivers side. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact did not sustain any injuries and was able to exit the vehicle. The vehicle was to be further inspected and diagnosed by the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra.the contact stated while driving at 25 mph the abs light would flash on the dash board indicating that the brakes need to be serviced.the contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic to have the brakes serviced and the local mechanic could not find a issue with the brakes.also the contact stated that the air flow button that controls the air inside the vehicle is malfunctioning.the contact feels this vehicle has a serious electrical issue and needs to looked at by the manufacturer.the failure mileage 6,000.
The connector on the cable from the ecu to the transmission failed due to corrosion.this causes the truck to accelerate from a standing stop in a manner where the transmission slams in and out of gear. Thankfully this didn't occur when pulling out on a busy street.the situation is dangerous. The truck already had a frame recall due to corrosion.this issue is similar and represents a design flaw with dangerous consequences.
Sitting in traffic, the engine revved up by itself on my 2005 toyota tundra sr5 v8. Problem was abated by turning engine off and restarting. This problem resulted in a mil error that side b of the engine was running lean. After completing an analysis of the problem, the findings are that the oxygen sensors are not responding to specification. It is my firm belief that the firmware on the ecm does not self check for runaway conditions.
I had a check engine light that came on which, after checked by a computer, was determined to be part number 1445 (p1445). I researched it out and discovered that this is a common problem with the toyota tundra 2005 models, yet toyota would not cover the cost nor did they care unless i was willing to pay for it. P1445 is for the secondary air injection system valve #2 stuck closed. Is there any way i can be reimbursed by toyota for having to pay for the replacement of a part that many have had the same problem with? this is clearly a faulty part put into the 2005 toyota tundras and toyota should be required to pay for it's replacement.
Tundra had electrical fault in transmission due to wiring harness corrosion.tundra will drop our of gear while driving and reengage violently.toyota has refused any assistance and i am unable to repair due to national backlog on necessary parts.my tundra was part of the rust recall a couple years ago which was never properly rectified and i believe this is a continuation of that problem.transmission issue seems to occur mostly at speeds up to 45 mph.
Due to excessive heat from bulbs or material too close to heat source, holes were burned into a lens casing located above sliding glass window to rear of driver.
Since my vehicle hit about 50000 (the date below is an estimate) and it is at 79900 now when i park and turn off the ignition and remove the keys androll up the windows and lock the vehicle and leave it a vast majority of the time the power drivers window rolls itself down at some point between two minutes and many hours later allowing for anyone to tamper with any of the trucks interior safety devices and leading to possible theft of the vehicle, its parts and contents. In addition whether the window rolls itself down or not the vehicles alarm will sometimes sound when there is nobody near the vehicle and after having it checked out by a local toyota dealer who had no idea what is causing it nor how to fix it and sent me away with problem unresolved i have to open the hood every time i park and manually unhook the negative lead to the battery which further exposes me to potential injury either from battery malfunction or engine malfunction due to the constant disabling and reenabling of power to the entire vehicle and to my person due to being struck by another vehicle by standing on front of my truck with my view of my surroundings blocked by the raised hood and other drivers view of me in that unexpected location as i am in large part blocked from view by the raised hood. This has been witnessed by my mechanic and his employees as well as family members
Service bulletin p2445 for secondary air ingection system then notes the frame is corrosion and mounts are braking off
My truck has 2 parts that have gone bad, the air injection pumps and air switching valves. Toyota issued a warranty policy bulletin regarding these parts on tundra models 2007-2010 and 2008-2010 sequoia models. My 2005 tundra was not included in this customer support program. However, my truck has the same part that is on the 2007-2010 tundras and has malfunctioned. This is an issue that toyota has been aware of and that was the reason for the warranty enhancement for these parts on the 2007-2010 tundras. Toyota has refused to include the 2005 models in the same customer support program to replace these defective parts, they have said they would pay only half of the costs to replace them. If its the same part as the 2007-2010 that toyota knows were defective, then why not include all model tundras and sequoias that have these parts? the warranty enhancement was extended to 10 years/150,000 miles. My 2005 has approximately 121,000 miles and was checked by my local dealership whom reported the problem to me and stated what the defective parts were and they also gave me the information regarding the customer support program(ztq). Please give feedback to whatever you may find out. Thank you,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Unintended acceleration occurred when proceeding through and intersection at about 4:50 pm 01/04/2011. Brakes were applied but the power of the toyota tunda sr5 v8 engine had enough power to accelerate unintended to approximately 50 mph even tho the brakes were applied as had hard as it could be applied. The truck centered an oak tree in the blvd approximately 150-200 ft from the intersection. The truck was totaled by my insurance company. Only the driver was in the truck and no other vehicles at the time of the incident. The driver suffered a broken left arm at the elbow which required surgery. *ln
My toyota tundra 2005, v8, 4.7l, 4x4(83,000 miles) lost its transmission power while driving on the highway and the check engine light came on.the transmission power came on and off all the way home.lunging each time it dropped off and came on. I brought it to the dealer who told me i needed a new transmission at a cost of $4000.00. It was displaying p0986 code.the next day brought it to a transmission shop.they found that the wire connector (15 pin) that goes from the transmission to the ecm was corroded and the pins were broken and not making contact. Its design is clearly defective. It is not protected and is located in a place where it is exposed to all the salt and water resulting in the pins being corroded. Information communicated from the computer to the transmission and back is interrupted or inaccurate. I found this information on a website at the same time the independent transmission shop discovered what the problem was. The following site describes the problem very clearly with pictures and descriptions:http://www.techno-fandom.org/~hobbit/cars/tundtran/i contacted toyota. They gave me a run around with only frustration and stress. I see this problem occurring with all these trucks in any part of the country where it is wet.i feel toyota should pay for the fix and not me. It is a major problem and causes unexpected power lose or transmission failure when driving. Please let me know asap if you want the old part after the new one is installed. It should happen in a few days.
Toyota has extended its warranty for the air injection pump and air switching valves on 2007-2010 tundras. The extension is for 10 years or 150,000 miles from first use.i have a 2005 tundra that has a failing air injection system.i am within 10 years of first use.the truck has the same air injection system as the tundras within the warranty extension, but toyota refuses to honor the warranty extension on my truck.this is a $4000 fix and the truck is unsafe to drive in the current state.
Secondary air switch stuck open... Loss of power that could have been serious in certain situations.
Secondary injection pump trigger a limp mode which is extremely dangerous on the highway.toyota has extended the warranty on all vehicle except the 2005, 2006, 2007 which have the exact same air pumps installed.this repair is costing toyota owners in excess of $3,000.00 with vehicles having having less the 100k miles.this is obviously an emission issue that toyota should address, the u.s. Has made vw responsible for there shortcomings i think toyota should be held accountable.
My 2005 toyota tundra suddenly lost power on the highway and started to buck.i was able to pull over but had to have the truck towed.the problem was a corroded 15 pin connector plugged into the driver side of the trans.i found that many other people are having this problem at around 80k miles.there is a nation wide back order on the part to fix part of this problem.
Vsc trac, vsc off, brake, abs lights... All on, all at once.
Check engine light came on and the truck lost power. The engine revved like it was trying to go, but had no more forward momentum. The speed at the time of the incident was 50mph. Hooked up the computer and the error code read that it is the air switching valve. Error codes p-1442, switching valves are stuck closed, #2 in bank 1 and #2 in bank 2 of the secondary air inspection system. Same issue on 2007-10 tundra and was recalled due to defect. My truck has the same issue, has under 150,000 miles, and has been very well maintained. Told by toyota that it is not a recall at this time and if there is one in the future, they will reimburse us our costs. Driving down a two lane highway with 18 wheelers behind you and losing power, going 65-70mph, is going to cause a wreck. I don't know how toyota would reimburse me my husband.
I own a 2005 toyota tundra with just 60,000 miles.in 2014 toyota was allowed to put a band-aid on a problem that needed a tourniquet - applying a rust converter coating to a frame that, because of their failure to manufacturer it properly, deserved replacing.i was told by toyota (case number [xxx]) that because the previous owner took the band-aid they were no longer liable until the government forced them via further government safety recall actions to do more.my hope is by writing this that the government can be proactive and solve this safety concern before they have to collect enough death and accident statistics to take notice of this issue. Not only that, i see that toyota is being offered the same band-aid solution on a number of new models with the same issue - proving that they didn't learn any lesson just how they can get away with actual murder.the result will be more vehicles in 5 years in worse shape due to the lenient reconciliation mandated by the government.do not put more lives at risk in order to save a multi-billion dollar companies bottom line. The frame which is known to be prone to excessive, premature rust corrosion because the frames were not properly prepared and treated against rust corrosion when they were manufactured should all have to be replaced under this recall to protect american drivers. This excessive rust corrosion compromises the vehicles' safety, stability, and crash-worthiness because important suspension components, engine mounts, transmission mounts, and body mounts anchored to the vehicles' frames are at risk of failure.do you want this vehicle (picture attached) passing your family on a two-lane highway, because i can tell you there are a lot, and soon to be even more, doing it every day.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Dash light "check engine" came on and when the dealer informed me that it was this emission control system listed above ( secondary air injection system switching valve no. 2 bank 1 and bank 2) that would cost over $3,000 i went online and saw many tundras and sequoias with exactly the same problem and that the 2007 to 2009 tundras with the exact part numbers were warranted for 10 years, it tells me this is a known problem, so why is there not a recall?
Toyota has extended its warranty for the air injection pump and air switching valves on 2007-2010 tundras. The extension is for 10 years or 150,000 miles from first use. I have a 2005 tundra that has a failing air injection system. I am within the mileage range of first use . The truck has the same air injection system as the tundras within the warranty extension, but toyota refuses to honor the warranty extension on my truck. This is a $4000 fix and the truck is unsafe to drive in the current state.
Check engine light secondary air intake this was a recall in 2007-10 years but is also been a common problem in earlier models. This is a very expensive repair.
2005 toyota tundra double cab. When stationary on cold start: vehicle produces a loud noise and additional carbon monoxide/exhaust, causing additional danger when starting in a garage.when in motion: truck operates as intended until acceleration is attempted, causing a major safety concern when merging onto highways, driving up an incline, or any other driving situation where the gas application is necessary. When in motion: venting and interior air controls cannot be used based on the amount of exhaust that will spill into the cab of the truck.this is a problem that is widely known to the toyota community, and to drivers of toyota tundras in particular. Of note, thousands of messages can be easily accessed in the toyota message boards (tundra talk, toyota nation, tundras.com, tundra solutions). In addition, there is a separate cottage industry that has sprung up as a result, where manufacturers are producing bypass kits that compromise the exhaust standards set by you all, where an entire business model has been created to profit off of these issues. One of the primary parties is hewitt-tech. When advised at a toyota dealership, the repair quote was $2568 out of pocket.when speaking to toyota customer experience, i was told they do not anticipate addressing the issue, as it is not enough of a problem. In greater research, it is apparent they are either aware but unwilling to remedy the situation because a) the scope is far too widespread within their truck market (every toyota tundra is subject to recall) or b) the scope is too widespread throughout their entire marketshare (similar problems are indicated with the corolla and other passenger cars). This is negligent and dangerous and needs to be addressed.
Loss of power dealer said i need a secondary smog pump and check valves at a cost of 2158.90 truck has only 38000 miles find out if my info is correct same problem on 2007 thru 2010 and toyota did extend there warranty. Loss of power a big safety issue.
At speeds above 50+ the rear end constantly rumbles and shakes the whole truck. And when pressing the break it does as well.seat belt locks when trying to put it on.parking brake doesn't work.whining and squeaky noise in the rear end.clunking noise at lower speeds.engine light is on & won't go off.tire pressure sensor doesn't work.rear end seal leak.driver side window feels like it's gonna fall out.truck is way too loud and everything is stock.ac/heat being on makes loud noise.
Air induction pump 2005 toyota tundra pump failure.defective design.
The truck was brand new and only had 4,500 miles on it when the check engine light came on and the truck started acting funny. Toyota said they were not going to fix it and i was never given a replacement under lemon law when this happened. I had just got the truck in october 2005 and in december 2005 it started acting up. I am a trained mechanic and i know this should not happen to a new vehicle.i want toyota to refund me the money i put down on the truck, which is around 8 grand.
Loss of acceleration power. Dealer quote $3,745 to replace pump/valve/driver assemblies. Told by repair shop same issue as technical bulletin addressed on 2007-2010 tundras power issues. If true, seems a recall should have been required to repair 2005 year models.
2005 toyota tundra experienceelectronic failure*cwthe consumer stated the mechanical or electronic failure caused an accident as well as injuries. The consumer stated all he remembered was exiting the highway in evening traffic when all of a sudden, his vehicle rammed into the vehicle in front of him. The air bags deployed prior to the collision and he had no recollection of being able to brake.he also stated the engine failed in june 2009. The consumer was informed there must have been something wrong with the seams in the radiator. Apparently, it blew out the bottom, which caused the instantaneous loss of the radiator fluid.
Noticed liquid on ground underneath engine after driving.opened hood to discover antifreeze/coolant dripping from overflow reservoir which was full.coolant was extremely dark brown in color.took it to toyota dealer who completed flush, replaced sensor, and faulty radiator cap (torn gasket).
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. Immediately after starting the vehicle, air began leaking from the air injection system and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The failure occurred multiple times. An independent mechanic stated that the air injection system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000.
Engine light came on.after having codes read, problem was identified as the air induction pump.the issue is that when this pump goes out, it puts the engine in a "limp" mode, which causes the vehicle to not have adequate acceleration to merge with traffic.this is a safety issue as drivers do not know that the "limp" mode occurs when this happens.needless to say, the replacement part cost over $1300. I would think a part of that expense should last longer than a little over 50,000 miles.
2005 toyota tundra. Consumer writes in regards to air induction pump design flaws *tgwthe consumer stated according to the mechanic's report, the second air pump, secondary air switching valve, bank 1 and bank were replaced. They were all clogged with insulation foam and stuck to the valve seats which kept the valves open.the secondary air inlet was also replaced, due to thehose being hard because of the heat under the intake manifold, which also contributed to the engine not being able to cool properly. Further research about air induction pump design flaws on toyota vehicle revealed a nationwide problem affecting tundra's up until the 2010 model.
Long delay between depressing "drive-by-wire" gas pedal and engine responding.my 2005 toyota tundra has an electronic gas pedal.it's unacceptable behavior may explain some of the current "surging" people are seeing in other toyotas.this is a 100% software problem (i am a electronic engineer).description:when the engine is at idle, or even worse, when you are decelerating at idle power, and you increase the throttle position of the gas pedal, there is a nearly 1-second delay before the engine responds to the throttle input.if the driver, not sensing any response to throttle, applies more and more throttle during that one second delay, when the engine electronic throttle finally does respond it will immediately go to the highest throttle setting the driver was selecting, causing a huge lurching forward action of the vehicle.for example, if the driver applied throttle in this fashion:0sec=5% throttle; 0.25sec=10% throttle; 0.5 sec=20% throttle; 0.75sec=35% throttle; 1.0sec=50% throttle.the engine's electronic throttle will respond like this:0sec=0% throttle; 0.25sec=0% throttle; 0.5 sec=0% throttle; 0.75sec=0% throttle; 1.0sec=50% throttle.causing the huge lurch at 1.0 second.this has been especially dangerous while changing lanes during stop-and-go traffic in the san francisco bay area.please note that if i am running at partial power/throttle, this behavior does not happen, and the gas pedal response is proper.only from idle or decelerating.i have complained numerous times to my toyota dealer, to which the service manager finally replied to me "you think the tundra is bad... You should try driving the sienna!it's worse!"so apparently the folks at toyota know about this and think it's funny.i can demonstrate this defect at any time.i have changed my driving style to protect me from the vehicle's defect.
2005 toyota tundra. S10 appropriate handling- letter to the secretary from regarding toyota problems *tgwthe consumer stated the oil pan was cracked on the side, the rack and pinion assembly and fan had to be replaced.the drivers side door was loose, the spring was sticking out of the seat cover. The consumer has since sold the vehicle.
2005 toyota tundra quad cab.front end alignment problems, extreme pulling to the left and right, consistent rattling in the front end.control issues at 5 mph, extreme shimmering over 65 mph. Recommended parts by service department knuckle sub assembly, bearings, ring hole, seals. Vehicle loses power, and steering control, caused accident.manufacturer refuses to honor warranty and repair vehicle.problems began at 2000 miles, taken in at 5009 miles for service and reported problem, 4 attempts at repair with no success.
Dt: when the engine is started cold it idles very high. When taking foot off brake or putting vehiclein gear it accelerates quickly.no accidents reported.also, no other problems. Taken to dealer to inquire about this, dealer stated that this is normal. It seemed twice as fast as a normal vehicle in idle. When the engine is hot this problem goes away.
My 2005 toyota tundra has a leaking exhaust manifold. On the way home from the hardware store my new co detector went off indicating co in the cabin. I have contacted the dealer and the manufacturer and they refuse to repair.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. While driving 35 mph, the emission control failed and the warning indicator illuminated. The failure occurred twice. An independent mechanic recommended that the second air injection system be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. When the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the air injector pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
2005 toyota tundra -- 3 times it sped up on its own.either floormat and/or accelerator.third time there was a crash, into our retaining wall in our driveway.i tried to get people to pay attention, contacted customer service, etc., at toyota, no one believed it.also insurance company said it was driver's fault.
Truck accelerated due to floor mat slippage.
The cargo/center high mount brake light housing melted above each cargo lamp.the plastic housing melted and dripped down on to the bulbs, causing the bulbs to crack and become inoperative.the fuse protecting the cargo lamp circuit did not blow, causing concern that there may be a fire hazard.
Due to excessive heat from bulbs or material too close to heat source, holes were burned into a lens casing located above sliding glass window to rear of driver.

I bought my truck new and had every scheduled maintenance performed. The secondary air injection system has failed and the truck is in limp mode and will not drive or pass emissions. I have been told the repair is around 3500 and the dealer nor toyota corporation will take responsibility for the faulty part. Even though they know it has been a problem for years and they extended the warranty on 2007 thru 2010 models which use the same parts. I am trying to take legal action to get some resolution.
I noticed a gas leak under the vehicle.technician told me it is dangerous to drive the vehicle with gas leak.dealer refuses to repair it as he claims that it is not manufacturer's defect.
Gas tank strap rusted thru and broke. Brake lines rusted thru and leaked differential rusted thru and leaked. Frame excessively and extensively rusted.
I filled my gas tank (17 gallons), drove about 4 miles and was pulling into a parking lot when i heard a grinding sound, i looked under the truck and saw the straps holding my gas tank had snapped in half and my gas tank was laying on the ground. I had recently recieved a limited service campaign letter from toyota notifiying me that "vehicles operated in cold climates with high road salt use may exhibit more-than-normal corrosion to the vehicles frame" "which may contribute to the development of more than normal rust in the frame of some vehichles". The dealership ordered new gas straps and also did the inspection which resulted in the under carriage being re-sprayed with a corrosion-resistant compound.i contacted thetoyota customer experience center at the dealerships urging and was told this was my fault, if i had brought my truck in for regular maintenance it would have been discovered and repaired. I have owned many vehicles and never had a gas tank fall off. My concern is this could have been at minimum an environmental disaster or at maximum an explosion could have occured.
Quoted for almost 4000 to fix thismanifold air injection manifold. Researched online and found out it to be a common problem with this car due defect. I don't understand why they recalled 2007 and newer but not the older ones which seems to have the same problem. I hopeyour agency can assist us with this issue.
I purchased this vehicle used aprox 10 years ago. The issue that i have had looked at by toyota dealership remains unresolved. When you take your foot off the brake it immediately lunges forward and travels without foot on the gas up to speed of 15 mph on flat level ground.it is definitely not safe.it could cause?an accident. My brother's insisted that i have it looked at by toyota dealership. I have not had a satisfactory answer to this issue.again the answer remains there has been no recall.could it be a timing chain issue?
Secondary injection pump trigger a limp mode which is extremely dangerous on the highway.toyota has extended the warranty on all vehicle except the 2005, 2006, 2007 which have the exact same air pumps installed.this repair is costing toyota owners in excess of $3,000.00 with vehicles having having less the 100k miles.this is obviously an emission issue that toyota should address, the u.s. Has made vw responsible for there shortcomings i think toyota should be held accountable.
The driver door latch not engaging, door would not stay closed. Took to dealer ship and the entire module had to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. The contact stated that the emergency brake was malfunctioning. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who diagnosed that the failure was due to corrosion and the parking brake needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 47,500 and the current mileage was 47,972. The vin was not available.
Parking brake engaged partially.also the engine idled too fast.this combination lead to the vehicle to start moving unexpectedly.as a result my wife injurered her foot and damage to the vehicle was sustained.this could have easily resulted in a fatality.

The contact sustained injuries to her left leg that required medical attention. A police report was not filed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The vin was unknown.
The frame and cross members are deteriorated to the point of breaking.the front driveshaft and steering linkage is excessively deteriorated. The brake and fuel tank brackets are also deteriorated and are failing to support attached components
2005 tundra with manual transmission has issue with 3rd gear grinding and popping out of gear when driving can see many complaints online with tundra and tacoma with 6 speed manual transmissions and some indications toyota new the issue was bad synchros in transmission and changed transmissions out with ones containing heavy-duty synchros when they were failing with 18000 miles, otherwise once out of warranty your problem. Some pepole stated replacement done more than once. Pops out of gear while driving on street
Gear shift on steering wheel column became loose and it became very difficult to place truck into park.it started gradually until the play in the shifter was so bad that i could no longer put it into drive, reverse or neutral without the shifter handle hitting the windshield wiper handle and causing the windshield wipers to activate and squirt cleaner onto the windshield.i was concerned that it was going to slip out of gear or into gear causing injury or death, and it became increasingly hard to put the vehicle into park. I took it to toyota dealer and they replaced it.i have the part (a1 shaft sub-assembly / bd376 housing, steering column) and it is defective inferior metal part broken into two pieces.

I took this truck into my local toyota dealer on july 09, 2015 as part of a recall for a frame inspection. The mileage at that time was 295,801. The dealer said the frame was in good shape and applied a corrosion inhibitor as part of the program. In february of this year, (2020) i decided to install new break pads. When i removed the wheel on the driver side, i found a significant hole in the frame and cracking all around the area. In approximately 5 years and 17,000 miles, this developed. I have not driven the truck in the winter for about 8 years as this became a secondary vehicle only for summer project use around the home. I contacted toyota corporate and they said that there weren't any programs available to remedy the situation and i was basically out of luck. I recently took the trunk to a frame & body shop and was shown much more extensive failure in the frame on both sides. He determined the frame is unrepairable because of the amount of rot and the truck will need a complete new frame. I can't believe that in 5 years driving, averaging 3,400 miles a year that the frame went from good (as the dealer described it) to being undriveable. Toyota new the steel was bad in many of their trucks and suv;s but has refused to repair allthat were affected by the bad steel and lack of protection applied during manufacturing. I have had to pull the truck off the road as it has become unstable and hazardous to drive.
The frame has several holes in it. Toyota said they did the corrosion prevension on it and said the repair is out of warranty. The sway bar has broken free of the frame and there are several hole and flaking spots on the frame.
While driving down the road my spare tire mount failed do to rust corrosion causing my spare tire to fall off of my vehicle. Upon inspection the entire rear frame as well as parts of the front are corroded and flaking chunks of metal off. This rusting also affects suspension mounts and the entirety of the rear axle.

My 2005 tundra double cab 4x4 has an issue where you feel a strong thud and push forward coming from the transmission when you come to a stop (such as a stop sign or red light).toyota's only fix if to grease the propeller/drive shafts well.i do this with each oil change but the condition persists even after lubing the powertrain.other tundra owners have reported this as a common issue with this vehicle.toyota should consider a more suitable fix than just applying grease.this issue has existed for years in my tundra.
After stopping at a red light.made right turn uphill.truck accelerated quickly like it was floored.attempted to brake easily to slow down.truck spun 180 on pavement, crashing sideways into island divider.right rear wheel was sheered off.truck was stopped by rear bumper smashing into light standard.sheered wheel had grind marks as wheels were still under power.this was pointed out at scene by law enforcement.i am a retired firefighterused to driving emergency equipment.my truck accelerated on its own.
The differential housing rusted through so that the lubricating fluid leaked out onto the road.this happened both when the truck was moving and at rest. Toyota had already replaced the vehicle frame as rapid corrosion and rusting caused a recall. The differential transfers power to the rear wheels so the lack of lubrication could have caused the rear wheels to lock while driving with the potential for a rear end collision or complete loss of control at high speed. Used replacement differential housings are unavailable because of high demand due to failure of originals due to rust.
Was taking it to have its oil changed and noticed a small puddle of oil under the rear axle setting in my driveway when i took it back to the dealer i ask them to check the rear axle to see were the oil was coming from they told me that the axle housing had rusted through toyota wont cover it under warranty because warranty dosnt cover rust and it is going to cost me 3600.00 for them to fix it . To me i think this is a bunch of bull this truck only has 70192 miles on it there is no way this should of rusted out causing a major safety issue if i didn't notice this the rear axle could have lost all of its oil causing a major malfunction the axle could of locked up broke the axle causing to loose controll creating a bad accident they say it dosnt cover rust but yet i got a recall notice to bring it in to have the frame inspected for extreme rust corrosion. This dosnt make much sence to me they will cover the rusty frame which is great but they wont cover the rusted out rear axle that could cause a catastrophic accident as well as the frame.

We received several recall notices for frame deterioration and the need for inspection, correction and anti-corrosion chemical application. We took it to the toyota dealer as requested. They called the next morning to have us pick up the vehicle and the anti-corrosion spray (black gooey stuff similar to undercoating) that they used was everywhere, including on the wiring harnesses, brake lines, the step bars that we installed aftermarket last year, inside of the wheel wells, the mud flaps - it was still wet and smelled awful. We contacted the service manager who blew us off, we called toyota and they refused to assist, other than to take down the complaint on paper. I can't seem to find an attorney even remotely interested in assisting with this case. Toyota says that the coating may never dry so it will attract all dirt and grime that it's exposed to. It looks and smells horrible. We can't even sell it because it smells so bad! toyota won't remove it or even repair it, nor will they replace the vehicle.
Tundra 2005 sr5 double cab. Purchased on march 2005 and i noticed very early on sometimes a hesitation to accelerate from a stop or from low speeds specially when waiting to make a turn. When this happens i press the gas pedal but the truck does not move or moves very slowly and then a jump to start moving normally again.
The car is dead. We called a technicain andhe checked the transmission,he said it was a failure. He added transmission fluid so we could drive the car to power toyota in irvine, ca .the mechanic at this dealer confirmed that the transmission died. This car was purchased in january2005,and itwas atundra 6 cylinder 2005.
2005 toyota tundra double cab, v8.when cold engine idles higher than what i would consider normal.when stopped at stop lights and the like in normal driving the transmission will jump or kick sometimes causing vehicle to move forward...especially when a/c is on.when cruise control on it will downshift to passing gear and accelerate way more than normal, tach goes to near redline, when encounter the slightest of grades...also happens when cruise is disengaged to slow and then resumed.transmission shifts improperly when slowing down such as when slowing to make a turn...when apply the gas going through the turn the engine will rev before slipping back into gear.i began noticing these things immediately after purchasing vehicle in nov. '05.
1.from a stop, auto transmission slipped out of first gear.while trying to back up, reverse would not engage. 2.while driving, fourth gear did not engage.the check engine light came on, then it slipped out of third.as a result, i was almost rear ended due to the loss of power.3.vehicle was towed to dealership.according to them, the transmission failed and was replaced.old unit not available.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra.the contact stated the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle would become resistant when driving uphill. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic test showed a faulty transmission solenoid.the dealer stated that the entire transmission would need to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 91,000.
The cruise control on my 2005 toyota tundra downshifts the engine on the slightestincline. It jumps from approximately 2100 rpm's to over 3500 rpm's. This causes the vehicle to loose traction on just a wet pavement, not raining just wetlast visit to the dealer this was part of the issues i wanted them to look into. The only thing i got was "that's just the way they work". This is a definite safety issue and needs some attention real soon. Toyota which owns suburau has the same transmission problem as this tundra, i had one of those also that did the very same thing. Not only a safety issue, but it also causes much more wear and tear on the parts. There is also issues with the way the transmission shifts, sometimes it does and other times it don't and always unpredictable. The converter lockup locks up at the slowest speeds ,anywhere from 20 to 55 mph. In city traffic this causes you to downshift constantly and once you do you have to get right back off the accelerator and or get on the brake. It's crazy to be "that's just the way they work".
When coming to a stop there is a periodic, loud clunk that comes from the front of the vehicle.dealership will not acknowledge even though technical service bulletin was issued to dealers.my brother and a friend are both experiencing the same problemhttp://www.toyotapartsandservice.com/pub/pdf/techcenterlibrary/tis/t-sb-0067-09.pdf.
2005 tundra crew sr5 4.7l. When i come to a stop - there is a heavy bump (like someone bumped the rear end). I have yet to take it to dealer - i have read other complaints to see if my issue was legitimate. It seems others have had this issue. I will followup my complaint after i visit dealer.
While driving at various speed of 20-50 mph automatic transmission would intermittently jump out of drive into neutral. This condition almost causes\d consumer's vehicle to be involved in a rear end crash. The vehicle has been to the dealer on two separate occasions. The first time the dealer informed the consumer that nothing could be found. On the second occasion the dealer replaced the transmission.
I have a 2005 toyota tundra. At times, it doesn't shift up properly and the engine revs up very high, but the truck doesn't accelerate. At times, when i am coasting down a hill, it will shift down, causing the truck to slow down. I took it to the dealer and was told that the transmission is completely electronic and that happens sometimes. I feel that this is a factory defect. Last week, i was trying to make a left turn at an intersection. I pressed the pedal but the truck didn't accelerate. I could have been hit by an oncoming car. I've come to realize the this is a dangerous defect, as well.i hope eventually, they asses this problem and issue some kind of fix.

I was heading up my close friends snow covered driveway in my 2005 toyota tundra double cab 4wd.i had the truck engaged in 4h mode because of the slight snow cover.as i was 2/3 the way up i heard a pop and loud bang and the truck came to a stop with the rear wheels spinning i let off of the gas then started to slide backwards into a tree and then into a ditch causing contact with the r/f door and r/f fender removing the mirror in the process.upon removal of the truck form the ditch i found that the r/f (pass side)wheel was locked up.at this time we were moving the truck off of the road way and then the wheel began to move after going forward and back a few times.i took the truck to the local toyota dealer where they said that the truck had a broken r/f cv joint.they have refused to fix any body damage but replaced the axle.after the axle was fixed the dealer said toyota wanted me to pck up the truck and drive it until they had made a decision on the body work.i refused to pick up the truck due to it not having a mirror on one side and i do not feel the door is secured.the truck has 652 on it and this was only the 2nd time in 4wd for a total usage of about 2 miles.the dealer has refused to let me have the parts and said they would keep them aside. I provided the dealer with a written request to hold the damaged parts for 90 days as of 12/16/05.
When you come to a stop, the rear axel feels like a lot of torque is released from the rear end, like someone hits you from behind. It will make the truck move forward a foot or two each time. After taking it to the dealer several times, i was told it was because the rear axles are designed with such tight clearance, that the slip yoke needs to be greased every so often to keep the torque from building up, but no fix had been designed from toyota. It is very scary when it happens. I was also told it only happens with 4 wheel drive tundra models. Mine is a 2005 4 door, 4 wheel drive model.

I bought a 2003 toyota tundra 4x4 and since i bought it i felt that when i was at a stop light my truck accelerated by itself making a huge noise at the rear end axel i took my truck to a toyota dealer and they said it they find nothing wrong but the problem continued for the 2 years i had the truck then i bough a 2005 tundra also 4x4 and it has the same problem dealer don't do anything to solve my problem sometimes it feels like if someone hits the truck from behind like a sudden jump or push.
I have been hearing some clicking noise when my car is moving and it sounded like metal rubbing. I took it to toyota and they said nothing was wrong. So when i went to get my emissions test done, the mechanic at the auto shop said that he heard the noise too and it sounded like it was coming from underneath the car in the middle. So they lifted the car and saw where the universal joint is worn out and the manufacturer seal is deteriorating causing the joints to rub together. There are no grease fittings on this so i am having to replace the universal joints as the problem is getting louder and the mechanic said that they needed to be fixed so that it does not break while i am going down the road which could cause problems underneath the car. I called toyota about this today and they said that would only be covered under warranty and that is 60,000 miles or 5 years. I have 70,000 miles on the car. Toyota failed to check all of these items and catch them when i did my yearly service and mileage appointments with them and now they want to charge me. This could have been a very dangerous situation if it failed while i was on the road.
I have a 2005 toyota tundra, sr5 access cab, 6-cyl and a 6-speed manual transmission. In feb 2007 the throwout bearing started to go bad at approx. 30,000 miles (vehicle was about 8 months old) and the dealer replaced the entire clutch under warranty. About a year later the throwout bearing went out again, with about 65,000 miles on the vehicle. The dealer again replaced the entire clutch under warranty and also replaced the bell housing, stating that the bell housing was defective and was the cause of the problem. Now the vehicle has about 82,000 miles on it, is 5 years old, and the throwout bearing is again making noises, indicating that the clutch is going out again. This is not normal for a clutch to wear out 3 times in 5 years. I do mostly highway driving on flat roads and do not tow anything. The truck is now out of warranty and the clutch replacement costs quite a bit. I strongly believe that something else is the cause of the clutch repeatedly going out. Not many tundras with this transmission ever came out and i believe that there is some kind of parts or design flaw that is causing this problem.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. The contact stated that the vehicle was involved in a crash. The contact stated that the seat belts fractured during the crash and the air bags did not deploy. The driver was reported injured and transported to the hospital where he remained for five days to treat injuries to the shoulder and face. He also sustained a concussion. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where it was deemed as destroyed. The mechanic was unable to diagnose the cause of the seat belt and air bags failures. The contact was informed that the seat belt mechanism need to be torqued to specifications. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was also concerned that the failure was present on the 2002 toyota sequoia model. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra.ever since the vehicle was purchased, the safety belt sensor light has been illuminated.the vehicle had a faulty safety belt system.the red sensor light illuminates when the vehicle is started and remains lit.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they wanted to give him a computer module for the sensor.the computer module was not replaced because the contact wanted all three sensors replaced, not just the safety belt sensor.the current mileage was 22,700 and failure mileage was 5.

I havea 2005 toyota tundra, which has the entire frame all rusted.i already replaced all brake lines and differential because of the rust.the mechanic said it isrusted so bad that it could fall apart. There was a limited campaign for a recall on our tundra and the spray was donein 2015.obviously it didn't take because of all the continuous issues we are having. Icalled the corporate office of toyota and opened an claim andthe manager i spoke to really could care less and told me that once the warranties are over its no longer their (toyota) problem.i requested a field inspection technician to look atthe truck .that request was denied by the manager who stated that he was speaking for toyota.i asked for my claim to be reviewed by some one above him and he stated their was no one higher them himself and his decision was final.i don't understand why they can't look at their products and tells usif it is safe to drive.obviously they new there was a problem or they wouldn't have thelimited campaign for a recall.they need to do more.
I pulled my truck out of the garage (it was backed in) and when i approached the street applied the brakes.the brake pedal went to the floor and the truck barely stopped before entering the street.(driveway was luckily on flat terrain)i checked the brake reservoir and it was almost empty.filled up reservoir, pumped brakes to get stiff pedal and checked for leaks.could find none so drove truck on about 5 mile roundtrip.pulled truck out the next day and reservoir was again empty but could find no fluid on concrete in garage.filled reservoir & brought to my mechanic.he found that the booster pump was leaking into the master cylinder which was why there was not fluid on the concrete.he had to replace the entire unit since toyota does not sell the components separately.this could have been disastrous under different circumstances.the brakes had worked perfectly fine the previous time the truck was driven.in fact it was driven over 250 miles on a hunting trip through roads that ran along cliffs.if the brakes had suddenly failed just 4 days earlier, someone could have died.
Toyota tundra frame recall - frame coating applied per recall in 2014.vehicle inspected twice by dealer in 2018 & 2019 and vehicle determined to be ok.recently experienced loss of brakes and crash into garage.vehicle inspected by independent mechanic and found 2 perforated and rusted brake lines.scraping away the undercoating uncovered other corrosion in various degrees. Determined that spray undercoating came way to late as truck already had 9 years of corrosion.undercoating only hid the problem.submitted a claim with toyota who offered no assistance.

Major rusting of frame, rusted brake lines, rusted power steering lines. Vehicles is unsafe due to rusting.
My 2005 toyota tundra has 217k miles and is, mechanically, in terrific shape, except the frame has rusted out on the drivers side. Structurally, it's still drivable safely, but it will no longer pass state inspection (maine, usa). Thousands of other toyota tundras of the same style and manufacturing process and similar model year have had frame recalls done for the exact same reason. I do not feel it is fair to skip this year. This is my family's only source of transportation right now, and it is vital to keep it on the road. Please allow a frame recall for this model year!
Got in truck, started it, brake light remained on.while driving, brakes were soft.checked brake fluid reservoir, low on fluid.added brake fluid, pumped brakes- pedal went to the floor.fluid under right front wheel.had truck taken to my mechanic - brake line rusted out, all all other lines rusted as well.recommended all get replaced as a safety issue.not only rust issues with this vehicle- was in the toyota chassis recall- chassis coated with rust inhibitor.differential rusted out- replaced at my cost.toyota took no responsibility.also replaced the hood release cable, emergency brake cable, as well as the two cables supporting the tailgate- all rusted out.rear bumper rusted out too.
The frame rusted to the point that it will not pass a state inspection. The brakes would not stop the vehicle when in forward motion, which caused an accident.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. The contact stated that the service brake light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact checked the fluid level and noticed that the brake fluid was nearly depleted. The contact replenished the fluid and the light dimmed. When the brake pedal was depressed, it sank to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The technician diagnosed that the entire under carriage was excessively corroded and the brake lines fractured. The manufacturer and dealer were made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 36,121. Updated 01/20/15*ljupdated 01/10/15. Updated 02/05/15updated 03/10/15*lj updated 06/17/2015
The leaf springs have broken and frame is showing serious rust damage. Brake lines were leaking and had to be replaced.
Igot into truck to drive and had no brakes.they had "gone" out overnight. The truck was towed to dealer and we found out that a brake line had rusted out.less than three months later the same thing happended again.now it is an additional two lines that have rusted out.toyota is telling us that its normal and not unexpected for this to happen with a truck that has almost 50,000 miles on it.in addition, since there are several brake lines on the truck, the others could go at any time.this is an extreme safely hazard as the brakes could stop working at anytime the truck is driven.
The park brake system uses cables to expand the rear brake shoes. The shoes are expanded using a bellcrank and bracket. When the park brake pedal is depressed, the cable pulls the bellcrank and expands the shoes. The bellcrank and bracket use a pivot pin. The entire assembly - bellcrank, bracket and pin suffer extraordinary rust. The rust causes the park brake to fail to release. The rear brakes drag, and cause:* premature wear of rear brakes* loss of fuel economy* shutter and shaking from the rear* avoiding use of park brake systemto avoid the problem, folks don't use the park brake. None of the drivers of our toyota tundra uses the park brake because of the the problems it causes. That's a safety issue.apparently this is a well known problem with toyota tundras. Also see https://www.tundrasolutions.com/threads/parking-brake-sticking.30818/ .our problem has been happening for years. We have not used the park brake in over a decade. We are reporting the issue now because we recently learned how easy it is to report the issue using the nhtsa.gov website.
The last 3 vehicles i've owned have had total brake failure due to brake line failure/ with vehicles lasting longer and salt treating for winter precipitation, stainless should be required. The most recent was a toyota tundra. Previously an expedition and a lexus rx300
Brakes feel inconsistent.last month abs light came on and stayed on whole day. Next day light went off.internet search says many 2005 tundra owners are experiencing rear brake caliper defect.this causes front brakes to prematurely wear-out.
I have a 2005 toyota tundra. I was carrying a load to the junk yard and after a few stops my brakes starting pulsing and stopping correctly became dangerous. I suspect the rotors got too hot from the load. This is a full size truck and the brakes appear to be too small to handle the braking required. The brakes and rotors will need to be replaced. This is a poor design and a safety problem. Fortunately no one has been injured yet.
My 2005 toyota tundra, v8, aroud 30,000 miles continues to have kicking problems feel similar to minor car accident impacts everytime i release the brake pedal after each stop.i brought the truck to the toyota dealer several times but they did not know how to fix the problem.they even called the manufacturer but they did not know how to fix it either.since this problem involves the breaking system, i believe toyota should spend more time to correct the problem instead saying we don't know how to fix it.there are many reports of similar problem on the web ragarding toyota tundras.
Malfunctioning brake sensors on 2005 tundra uses abs to override driver's braking below 10 mph.the defect is that"abs" light does not appear on dash to inform the driver that he does not have full braking authority over the vehicle when the abs kicks in.the toyota dealer had damaged the brake sensor while replacing the rear axle bearings.i drove the service manager to witness the loss of braking control.the brake sensor was replaced and problems solved.back to the problem.i over shot a stop line by a few feet in heavy traffic.luckily, i was the first one at the red traffic light.it sounded like the abs kicked in, but abs light did not illuminate.i thought the braking system was recalibrating itself (who knows how all these onboard computers operate these days), but the abs was kicking in.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 25 mph, the brakes failed to work under normal road conditions causing the vehicle to collide into another.there were not warnings prior to the failure.the manufacturer was not contacted.the vehicle was totaled and taken to a collision repair shop.a police report was taken, and the driver did not sustain injuries. The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. The contact was driving at approximately 35 mph when another vehicle moved into her lane. To avoid an accident, she depressed the brake pedal but the vehicle was unresponsive and did not slow down. As a result, the vehicle crashed into the other vehicle. There were two people injured. The police were called to the scene of the accident and a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the insurance companys automotive body shop for inspection where it was determined the vehicle was totalled. The current and failure mileages were 74,645.
I have experienced floor mat entanglement issues and uncommanded accelerations with my 2005 tundra double cab. I also have experienced a clunking sound in my brakes/front end when i shift into reverse and then apply the brakes. The dealer has told me all of these issues are normal which according to the recalls for other model years they are clearly not normal. Can the 05 tundras be added to the current recalls and can the brake issue be addressed?
I have been told my truck has excessive rust on the brake line, front brake rotors and power steering unit.they will al need to be replaced.
Everytime i came to a stop light or sign, the brakes would lose pressure and then the car starts going through the light, while i am still holding the brakes. The would also lose pressure to where i could not stop in the middle of a hot day. Problem was consistent first thing in the morning on the way to work. Took it to toyota dealer and they could not figure it out at first. They had me replace the brake pads, and rotors and bleed the lines numerous times. This still did not work and theysaid i needed a new master cylinder/brake booster. This assembly is all in one so the whole unit had to be replaced costing over $2,000 for the parts not including labor.the truck is a 2005 toyota tundra with only 60,500. They told me i was out of warranty and had to pay the cost because they have never heard of this failure before.
While driving my 2005 toyota tundra, the car in front of me stopped suddenly. I hit my brakes hard but felt the car go along as if it was in neutral, no braking at all. I crashed into the car in front of me causing significant damage.
Toyota tundra 2005 - when braking the front end shudders and moves back and forth. When front braking system was inspected the rotors had warped. Toyota issued a 2005 repair notification that brake rotors were warping but did not pose a safety problem. Toyota recommended repairs require replacement of the rotors, calipers, and brake pads. There is no guarantee that this will resolve the problem per the repair notification. My vehicle continues to shudder when applying the brakes with potential loss of control at highway speeds. I have not had the recommended repairs done since the estimated cost is $2200 per my local toyota dealer.

Bought this vehicle used in 2010 and it had a lot of corrosion underneath then. Currently has 50 k miles. My brakes are squealing due to corrosion preventing the calipers from moving and the wheel was corroded to the hub and it took a lot of effort to remove it. The structural members and all the components have loose layers of rust. The exhaust heat shields fell off. The spare tire restraint system looks too weak so i removed the spare. The spare wheel is so corroded that the bolt holes are no longer smooth for the lugs to bear againstevenly. I am concerned that something bad will happen eventually if a weakened critical part were to fail. I doubt the undercoating toyota is offering for 04 to 06 trucks can help much at this point. I don't want to be the guy who drops a fuel tank on the freeway.
- the contact stated that on two separate occasions whiledriving the2005 toyota tundrawith 28,000 failure mileage the vehicle lurched forward with his foot depressedon the brake pedal.the ignition had to be turned off to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, and they found nothing wrong. The contact receivedrecall 05v123000 pertaining to vehicles with dual exhaust.
While trying to stop from 45 mph, the abs system activated on a clean dry road and the brakes failed to activate at all. The pedal did not go to the floor and the truck would not stop. After coasting to a stop, the brakes started working normally. After taking it to the toyota dealer, they could find nothing wrong and the abs system did not report an error.

For a week i had noticed a leak on the surface of the parking lot of my apartment building where i almost always park my truck. Since it's an apartment, i didn't pay much attention to it, thinking it was someone else's vehicle. Then on sunday august 31st, i had driven round trip to akron, ohio and back to willoughby, ohio and noticed a huge leak. I took it to the dealer who said it was the power steering and that there are two of the parts that need to be replaced. I researched this problem and found they have rusted and leaked on other tundra's of the same year as mine.
The entire frame of the truck and every component directly in contact with it including the suspension is and has been oxidizing/rusting/rotting off in layers some fragments of rust scale falling off measure 1/8" in thickness i contacted toyota of north america knowing about the recalls on the toyota tacoma model trucks with alot of detailed photos they said basically too bad. Ive kept the undercarriage clean even tried using coatings to slow the deterioration down the truck has 122,000 miles on it and was very well taken care of the problem is toyotas poor quality steel used and improper factory coatings i purchased the truck in 2014 and i glimpsed underneath the day i bought it and thought the frame looked good then a few months go by and i go to do a tune up and i start seeing huge rust scale falling all over upon further investigation noticed the problem and how bad it was as well as the reason i didnt notice it at the dealer was they spray painted the underside black to hide the problem, i am a marine corps veteran i served 2007-2011 active duty every penny i had saved up i used to buy this truck (my first big purchase all in cash) ive put thousands into this truck already replacing suspension components and mounts and its becoming a total loss i cant sell it to a private party knowing how dangerous it can be if the wrong part finally rots all the way thru and i cant afford a new vehicle i can barely find work with the economy and personal struggles i have related to my service, i am beyond upset and i pray someone somewhere can help me i know my truck is not the only tundra with this major problem
Major rusting of frame, rusted brake lines, rusted power steering lines. Vehicles is unsafe due to rusting.
January 28th (2014) i was into york's toyota for diagnosis of a check engine light and rough idle problem. The clerk at york's toyota advised me of (2) recalls on my pickup truck (ball joint & spray frame) and said "we will call you to schedule when to have these completed at no cost to you".february 6th while driving southbound on interstate 95 at the posted speed of 75mph in sherman maine the front driver's side of my 2005 toyota tundra buckled. After pulling to side of the highway i got out of the truck and saw the front driver's side ball joint appeared to have sheered off causing damage to tie rod end, other front steering components and some front quarter panel damage. I called the maine state police which completed an accident report. York's has refused to pay for the repairs to the vehicle. My insurance refuses to pay because the cause of the accident was a recalled part. Toyota corp in california has refused to pay for all the repairs to my vehicle stating the ball joint recall was for premature wear and since my truck has 150,000miles it doesn't qualify. This is completely unacceptable. A recall was issued and toyota is refusing to fix the recalls and the damages.
When toyota recalled the balljoints on the 2005 tundra's i took mine in...after they replaced it my truck pulled to the right and had a noise and vibration...i took it back several time but it was never fixed...now it is 2010 and i rarely drive it im afraid to..the vibration is worse and the pull is worse..the dealer always tell me the same thing...they cant find anything wrong..my truck has since gone out of warranty due to years...not miles...i want my truck fixed ,,,ford has offered me a trade in im seriously thinking of switching ...also my title says i have a 3/4 ton truck but toyota swears they don't make one????..it is the texas limited edition 4door toyota pickup...do i have3/4or not...cause i paid for a 3/4 ton..????
I have a 2005 tundra 2wd trd. I have to replace the steering rack and recommended that i replace both rear bearings. When looking the problems on the internet i have discovered that these issues are very common for the tundra in earlier production. The steering rack was manufactured with inferior material that has been known to where out. The same with the rear bearings. If this is such a common problem why hasn't a formal investigation ever been performed on these two elements of the tundra.
Catastrophic ball joint failure (driver side upper ball joint) while driving at slow speed.
I have been told my truck has excessive rust on the brake line, front brake rotors and power steering unit.they will al need to be replaced.

The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 86,000.

Steering rack failed safety inspection due to leaking power steering fluid caused by rust.the dealership i was using had 3 other of the same or similar toyota trucks with the same failure at this same time.they had problems locating enough parts to do all the repair.

While starting from a stop, either in drive or reverse, i heard a squealing sound when turning the wheels to the left. I am also losing power steering fluid, and my right side rack & pinion boot appears to be filling with fluid. It appears that my power rack & pinion system is failing, and the vehicle has only 55,000 miles on it with no hard use (just transport, mostly local.) i am worried that my steering system may fail while driving.note: i am scheduling an inspection of the steering issue with a local toyota dealership.

I noticed around august 2006 one rust spot on the body of my 2005 tundra, these grew to about 12 spots by 2007 and now i have about 15 small rust spots, the largest about the size of a quarter. They start out bubbling up the paint until the paint corrodes and falls off and the problem gets bigger. After several attempts to get toyota to correct this (from october 2007 until now june 2008) i am attempting to warn all buyers to beware of the possible problem, and be aware of the promises you get from the van trow toyota dealers from monroe, la.i was asked to give them a couple of months to "get to it, they were too busy", then i was told that mother nature has done this,,, in general, getting the run-around. This truck was parked in my carport, washed every two weeks, and still smells and looks new on the inside. I only have 23,000 on this truck, it was bought june 30, 2005. Yes, they are getting the warranty to run out. Can someone advise me who to complain to besides nhtsa? thanks

While driving truck on public road, i heard a loud pop sound. Pulled off the road and looked under the truck and looked like the spare tire was loose. Removed the spare tire and placed in the bed of the truck and further inspected the rear cross member. It appeared to be cracked. Called toyota dealership to have truck frame inspected specifically the rear cross member.i have attached the work order from hickory toyota which states do not recommend driving vehicle. Have also attached a couple of pictures where i have had toreplace the rear shackle bracket on the rear drivers side and also the rack portion of the rack& pinion steering. I have attached the invoice for the rear bracket and can supply an invoice for the rack if needed.
I went to have my 2005 toyota tundra inspected and it failed due to frame corrosion causing fracture and splintering of the frame supports.the frame of my 2005 toyota tundra has rusted through at 4 points, fracturing and splintering at 3 of the points of failure.the vehicle can not pass the virginia inspection and is now undriveable.it is not save to haul or tow anything, the two main functions of my truck.

My 2005 toyota tundra the frame has rotted through behind the front tire on the driver side. The vehicle will not pass a new york state inspection. Toyota extended the warranty until 2015 in 2014. They know there's a problem with these vehicles but currently they refuse to address. The vehicle is not safe to drive in its present condition. There appears to be a lot of toyota vehicles with similar problems that the manufacturer is refusing to address.

The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer (rochester toyota in rochester, nh) was notified, but the manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 75,000.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. The contact stated that there was severe corrosion to the subframe of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be inspected. The contact was informed that due to the severe corrosion, the vehicle could not be repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.
Toyota has just settled a claim for frame rust for 2007-2008 tundras.i own a 2005 tundra and the frame is completely rusted and must be replaced.i don't understand why i'm having the same problems and it is not covered in the recall.
Frame is rusting and breaking
I purchased a 2005 toyota tundra unaware of the wide-spread rust issues this model from toyota is suffering. The vehicle came with an inspection sticker from the dealer so it was well past the dealer's warranty window to do anything about this once i found out about the issue. The vehicle was purchased in maine and was sold to me in new york.i was informed by my mechanic that there are 4 serious rust issues present on the vehicle that prevent it from passing inspection.1) a large several square inch perforation in the center of the frame member2) "pancaking" present on a large section of the frame3) a large perforation in one of the frame's cross members4) a significantly rusted body mountsomehow, only model years 2000-2003 were recalled for the tundra by toyota, as if the rest of the gen 1 tundras didn't have the exact same frame part number.worse yet, i registered on toyota.com and found that the previous owner requested a frame replacement 60,000 miles ago in 2014. Toyota did nothing and instead applied a "crc" or corrosion resistant compound to the truck. Based on what i've read online the application of this coating this can make your truck ineligible for the recall servicethis issue effectively totals the truck as it won't pass a safety inspection without rectifying this issue.i am in quite an unfortunate situation as a result as this is my only vehicle.
Frame is very rusty.strap holding fuel tank is dangerous , rear suspention ,and shocks broken
2005 tundra frame is rusted in many places. Very bad where frame sections meet and now the frame is rusting through the main horizonal frame itself as the attached picture indicates. This has been an ongoing issue for years but is bad enough now that it is not safe and will not pass inspection. I know there was a recall on this frame and i was told it was ok when i brought it in for the recall. I t has been rusting ever sense. We have only purchased toyotas and lexus vehicles for the last 20 or more years and this is the third truck rust has totaled. Please help
Due to excessive heat from bulbs or material too close to heat source, holes were burned into a lens casing located above sliding glass window to rear of driver.
Limited service campaign dsd 2004-11006 tundra frame inspection.i bought an 05 tundra last year.called toyota and they said this recall is over.my frame needs repairing.they are not helping.do i have any recourse?
While driving down the road my spare tire mount failed do to rust corrosion causing my spare tire to fall off of my vehicle. Upon inspection the entire rear frame as well as parts of the front are corroded and flaking chunks of metal off. This rusting also affects suspension mounts and the entirety of the rear axle.
I recently purchased this 2005 tundra and later found out that the frame of the vehicle was massively rusted and will need to be replaced. This vehicle was part of the toyota frame recall but was never replaced and after contacting toyota they are telling me that they will not replace the frame. Toyota said the frame was 'treated' in 2015 and that should've taken care of any issues. Given the photos this rust has been building for years. This vehicle is not only dangerous to drive but is effectively useless. Considering it only has 77,000 miles on it this level of rust should not be present.
The breakline broke in august 2017 took it to mechanic learned that the frame was too rusted to put it on the lift to fix the brake line - learned it had beenunder coated by toyota june 2014. Didn't work - rusted full of holes and cracks !
The frame of the truck was recalled for excessive rust.the dealer sprayed on a coating per the recall in 2013.the coating has all flaked off and the frame is losing chunks of rust.toyota know about this problem but won't do anything about it once they spray the defective coating on it.the truck frame needs replaced and they won't do it.somebody is going to be seriously injured or killed in one of these trucks when the frame breaks at speed.
Main frame of the 2005 tundra is rotten from rust and a chunk of the frame has fallen out. See picture. I contacted local toyota dealer and they said there is nothing they can do as recall has expired and toyota corporate will not do absolutely nothing. This tundra was supposed to be sprayed in 2014 as part of the "fix" but the frame is rusting and rotting apart. More signs of rots are visible on the frame.
I seen that toyota were recalled for the frame issues on 2004 and up, mine is 2005 tundra with frame issues, like itā€™s sad, such a nice truck, but frame is horrible. Why is mine not being shown as recalled, but yet i have frame problems? i got my truck from a 1 owner who had it since new, it just hit 100,000 miles on it, it was serviced by toyota dealership, iā€™m not sure why they didnā€™t do nothing with it over the years to help or fix the rust issue on the frame. Itā€™s not just a little rusty, itā€™s really rusty, and it was garage kept too.did they forget to include my vin number when they started the recalls?doesnā€™t make sense why they would fix some and not all, all around the same years. Thanks jim
Was pulling light duty covered uhaul trailer that was maybe 1/10 full of household items. Frame pulled apart. Was in my driveway with son in law helping guide backing up to garage.
Discovered severe rust through on the underside frame.
My 2005 tundra is rotting out in the frame above the rear leaf spring front connection to the frame. Dealer has looked at it twice in the last six years said no perforations. Now in 2018 the frame is rotting and buckled. Toyota corporate says there is nothing they can do because it outside of the window of service. So now i am stuck with a truck with just over 100k miles, looked at by a toyota dealer in the past and was deemed not in need of a frame replacement. Now it is in need of a frame replacement but toyota won't honor any past recalls or inspections done by a toyota dealer and has left it to me to deal with the rot. Very disappointed there is no help for customers in this situation from the manufacturer.
Good afternoon, i'm writing to report and request assistance with catastrophic frame issues on my 2005 toyota tundra.there are a number of holes in the frame and places i believe to be compromised. The truck has 96,000 miles.i have an open incident ticket with toyota but also wanted to report this issue here.
Brakes failed2 times in less than 1 year cause of failure, brake lines rusted through. Frame is very rusty the truck was in motion both times
My 2005 toyota tundra was recalled for rust problems, and in 2013 the toyota dealership applied a coating to the frame which they advised would remedy the problem. On 06/01/18 i noticed i however have holes in my frame near where the suspension attaches, and the frame is not safe for operation on the road.the dealership said they are not liable, and i called toyota and they said they are not liable and no one will fix the issue.the dealership had the option in 2013 to either spray or replace the frame, they sprayed mine but it was not effective and now i believe the vehicle is a hazard due to holes in the frame.i only have 118,000 miles on the truck, and it has been in my family since being brand new.i believe the frame is defective and toyota inc. Is not assisting me with fixing the problem, they advised me i need to go talk to a body shop to see if they can weld a piece into the frame.
Sept 2014 my trucks frame was recalled for the rust problem. The frame was scaled and sprayed. Mileage 134,500.6/2018 with mileage 164,301 dealer advises me frame is getting rusty! i said you scaled and coated it in 2014 isn't it warranted? there answerwas that ended last month. Now it's a year later june 2019 it only has 171,000 and only 36,500 miles since the frame was coated. The toyota dealer failed the nh state inspection.i am very upset as i have spent over $4500 in the past 18 months on other repairs and on gone 8k miles. I never would have done those repairs if i was advise how bad ir how fast the rust was going to make my truck unsafe to drive. Why did other trucks get new frames because they drove more miles then me and had there frames rust fasted. There are trucks now of the same age with new frames with well over 200k +miles because there frames rusted faster( time wise). This is not fair for those who still have junk frames. All the framed are junk! but many get stuck with them because it took longer to rust to the point of failer because we drove them fewer miles per year!my frame has failed in the same places as every frame that has been replaced, but because it lasted past may 2018 my truck is junk now but the person who's frame rusted out before may 18 gets to continue driving it with there replacement frame! how is this fair???? if my frame wasn't scaled and coated it would have rusted before may 2018 and been replace! they just made it last longer to get past the may 2018 date!
2005 tundra with major frame rust.took it in during the original recall where they sprayed the frame with a "rust preventative coating" which fell off in a year.the frame is now dangerously rusty and toyota refuses to do anything more.toyota needs to be held responsible for replacing all of the affected frames, not just the ones that didn't pass their "inspection" back when the original recall happened.the rust through problem is a very well known issue and there arethousands of tundras and tacomas on the road that are dangerously rusty because of toyota's faithless response to the problem.toyota needs to be forced to replace the remaining frames that were part of the recall.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. While the vehicle was being inspected, it was noticed that the rear frame was corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 129,000. Updated 08/16/16*lj
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. The contact noticed extensive rust and corrosion near the motor mounts. The vehicle was included in a manufacturer recall, but the contact was informed that the statute had expired to receive the repair. The contact was uncertain if the vehicle would be repaired by a dealer or independent mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and refused to repair the vehicle. The recall details were not provided. The failure mileage was not available.
I went to a certified toyota dealer for an oil change few days ago and they notified me about the massive corrosion on the frame that do not reflect the age or the overall condition of my vehicle. They strongly recommend me to stop driving the vehicle immediately due to the high degree of damage on the entire body. I just bought this vehicle from grieco mazda of delray beach on 10/13/15. The vehicle was not inspected at all prior to sell it to me becuase grieco mazda did not mention this massive corrosion while doing the business.
On 09/09/17 the frame rusted through causing a me to run over a curb and into a parking lot. Toyota treated the frame to prevent rust, but it did not stop it. Now it has rusted through and caused an accident. This is dangerous and almost killed us! in addition to the images i have sent, i can provide many many more!
Frame underneath at sway bar and surrounding area is rusted out. It could be a huge safety hazard. This is on the recall list. I am requesting this be fixed.
The frame has several holes in it. Toyota said they did the corrosion prevension on it and said the repair is out of warranty. The sway bar has broken free of the frame and there are several hole and flaking spots on the frame.
During annual inspection on july 19, 2019, rust holes found in the frame.one hole was almost 2 inches in diameter.additional perforations found near the leaf spring area.vehicle was subject to lsc in 2014 and treated with crc compound. This just appears to have delayed the onset of the frame cancer.toyota was notified.no support from them - they are saying it is my problem.
The vehicle will not pass inspection due to frame for. The body and engine are in great condition for the age. An undercoating was applied but did not prevent the rust from spreading. Toyota has replaced many frames for this same reason and should include the '04-'06 model years to ensure all owners of trucks with faulty frames are safe.
Toyota frame rust, 2005 toyota tundra recalled and "inspected" in 2014 by toyota for rust holes. Report was that none were found and toyota performed a "goodwill" spray undercoat. Please examine pictures of sway bar mount to frame as well as gapping hole in frame discovered two days ago. Toyota has an obvious frame problem and has replaced frames in 2000-2003 tundras as well as 2007-2008. Why not in 2004-2006 with obvious issues? please help.
Took vehicle for inspection and was informed that the frame was rotted out.i know this is common with some of toyota vehicles and they have had recalls but not on my vehicle. Vehicle only has 59000 miles on it.toyota was of no help. Basically told me tough luck. Toyota dealership also of no help.not even willing to give me anything toward new vehicle.
Bought the tundra in late 2014 from toyota of keene in nh. Was told frame was check and the rust prevention spray was applied, vehicle framed looked clean and had no visible rust , they couldn't provide me with any record of this . In february of 2016.i took the vehicle to grappone and had noticed some rust on the frame around the gas tank and under the drivers side.graponne told me that the frame service was completed and they couldn't ( or wouldn't) be able to help and noted the spray was intact. After that the power steering rotted away which grapponetoyota replaced and at that time i broughtthe rust to there attention again . They said it looked normal and not to worry. After that i kept my eye on it. Brought it to get my annualinspection. The tech brought me out showed me the rust and told me that i had 1 or 2 years left before the framewould need to replaced or repaired due to rust . The tundra has 155.xxx miles on it gets washed regularly . Contacted toyota usa they told me they would have someone contact me.toyota of keen called me and told be the truck was old and the person whom i spoke with told me it wast his fault because he wasn't there and the problem areas i described toyota didn't pay the to spray properly, ( parts people cant see unless they really look) but i could drive it in and they could look at it . I called toyota usa after receiving an email the next day that stated i had there position regarding my incidentand the rep said it wasn't toyota's problem because the extended service program was not a recall and expired in 2015 i feel that if toyota knew there was a problem with these frames they might included them with all the other models a but they deceitfully covered up the problem with a spray that hides the problem long enough to make them "old " as they put it .many others would agree
Frame is rusted. Whole on front passenger side frame.
Major rusting of frame, rusted brake lines, rusted power steering lines. Vehicles is unsafe due to rusting.
I have only owned this truck for about 6 months now. Took my truck to my mechanic to get some brake work done. When he pulled the tire off of the front passenger side he noticed a crack in the frame. Some further investigation revealed some very bad rot on the frame and a hole about the size of two fists that somebody had tried to patch with just bondo and painted back over to hide it. It would not have been visible without pulling the tire off. Unsure of when this all occurred but appears to have been rotted out for a while. I have no pictures to upload as it is unsafe to drive and still at the garage. I'm concerned about the safety of others driving these later years first generation tundras and toyotas neglect at fixing this safety issue
I purchased truck 2 years ago with a inspection sticker good for 5 or 6 months. When inspection was due i brought it into have it inspected. It wouldn't pass inspection do to the advanced state of corrosion.i was told that there was recall for frame replacement due to this problem and all these trucks are rusting out and many still on rd putting lives in jeopardy as thousands are unsafe going down highways. I brought it into berlin toyota in portland me on riverside dr. They brought me truck in and did the inspection and agreed frame was not safe. They said my truck had too many miles on it. I asked about this same toyota that they bought back from a customer with over a million miles on it original drive train and they have bragged that these truck go more than a million miles if maintained properly. They kept trying to talk me into buying a new truck and were adamant about my miles being too high. 220,009 miles plus or minus this was just over a year ago. I explained to them that i still owed close to 10,000 for this vehical and that they needed to stand behind it. Well left empty handed and went back to my mechanic amd told him what was said. He informed me that that was ridiculous because he had a customer come in last week that just had their frame replaced at 300,000 miles and im just getting blown off by them. A year later amd i cant even get toyota to respond. They keep sending me recall info about airbag recall but won't acknowledge the frame recall.about two weeks ago my mechanic called me to see if they replaced my frame yet and told him no. He said that really strange because he's had 3 customers over past 6 months with same truck same year amd they were able to get their frames replaced by toyota and their mileage was around the same with the exception of one being almost 290,000. Im a single parent with children and im making payments on this.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. The contact stated that when the vehicle was inspected, he learned that the vehicle was severely rusted. The contact contacted dch auto group (955 u.s. 9, south amboy, nj 08879; (877) 324-2886) who informed the contact that parts of the vehicle had rusted through and the vehicle was not safe to drive. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and opened case. The approximate failure mileage was 193,000.*dt*dt
Frame has prematurely rusted resulting in the sway bar mounting bracket to break off. Frame is close to complete failure which would result in fuel and brake lines severing with catastrophic result.
Significant frame rust, affecting the structure of the vehicle
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. The contact stated that the frame underneath the driver's side buckled when it was placed on the lift at stoltz toyota of dubois (860 beaver dr, dubois, pa 15801, (814) 371-3333. The dealer stated that there was a voluntary recall on the frame and advised the contact to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer stated that the voluntary recall expired in july of 2015 and they could not assist. The contact did not receive a recall notice. The contact purchased the vehicle in 2009 from the original owner. The failure mileage was 150,000.
The frame has rot on it and toyota has recalled years before and after mine for frame replacement but nothing for 2005
I brought my truck in on july 13th 2015 to have the frame inspection done by hurlburt toyota in epping nh. They determined that my frame passed inspection and wanted me to bring it back to have crc done. I expressed my concern about the condition of my frame when i dropped it off and handed the service rep two pieces of metal that had basically fallen off in my hand. I was told not to worry and that they would look at it. I knew the frame was in bad shape and was disgusted when i was told that there was nothing wrong with it. I was then contacted a few weeks later 2 days before the recall expired and was encouraged to get my truck in to have crc done, but they could not provide me a loaner that i could tow with so i never went in. I was prepared to undercoat truck myself and while underneath my truck i found a hole in the boxed section of the drivers side(not a drainage hole) i contacted the dealer that inspected and they told me to contact toyota corp which i did and received a case # and after a lot of wasted time was told there was nothing that could be done. Something needs to be done about the way this is being handled. There is no way they can get crc in that boxed section which is where my problem is. It is frame rot not rust. Applying crc to that area will probably only make the rot worse. I was told that they do a more thorough inspection before undercoating but they had my truck for two days and printed on service slip that it passed. All of the frames are bad on these trucks. Im now stuck with a truck that i paid $10,000 two years ago and now feel its worth nothing. I would not sell in this condition and cant get any help from toyota! any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

2005 toyota tundra.consumer writes in regards to vehicle frame corrosion issues.the consumer stated the bed corrosion was caused by the frame rust. However, toyota refused to cover the cost of the bed corrosion.
I have been told my truck has excessive rust on the brake line, front brake rotors and power steering unit.they will al need to be replaced.
Significant frame corrosion in multiple areas to include one area with a hole all the way through the frame rail, and most acutely where the rear leaf spring connects to the frame with only 50% of the contact area appearing to be structurally sound.inspected by toyota dealership who rated damage as just barely better than unsafe to drive, however not covered under recall.vehicle has 175k miles on it, and has spent the majority of its life in sc and md where road salt usage is low.frequently cleaned undercarriage, and periodic application of corrosion preventative compounds did not alter outcome which implies poor materials and/or manufacturing defects.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to steve hamlin, an independent mechanic shop, for yearly inspection where it was noticed that the entire frame underneath the vehicle was corroded. The contact also stated that part of the frame that protected the heat shield became detached. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was a class action suit for the same issue, but the vin was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 97,012.
The frame on my 2005 toyota tundra is rusted to the point of failure. Frame recall should include all toyota tundras. Additional components have rusted including linkage arms. Body looks great. Toyota has no comment.
Brought toyota tundra 2005 to dealership to inspect frame for rust.rust hole in frame under driver side, and along seam of frame.dealer declared vehicle unsafe to drive, and took pictures of frame.instructed to call toyota and created case.but toyota said vehicle was out of warranty and they would do nothing.
Catastrophic ball joint failure (driver side upper ball joint) while driving at slow speed.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. While an independent mechanic was inspecting the vehicle, the mechanic observed that the rear differential was severely corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
On september 30, 2019, my 2005 toyota tundra (purchased new in 2004) did not pass inspection due to rust holes on the frame; mileage was 81,147. I looked up vin number on nhtsa and there is only one recall dated october 2019 not fulfilled for my vehicle.a local dealer investigated my vin number, and told me there was a d zero d/limited service campaign (expired 2015) regarding rust problems with this vehicle.i was not notified by toyota about this.i have not moved/changed address since i purchased this vehicle, and i did receive and fulfill the 2016 and 2007 recall notices. I called nhtsa and told the woman on phone about the d0d/lsc and she found it for me under 'manufacturer communications'.i have taken good care of it and have all of my service records.i expected it to last and am disappointed toyota did not notify me.i am requesting nhtsa make these limited service campaigns for vehicles visible with the other recalls.i look forward to hearing back from you and a resolution of this problem.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph over a bridge, there was a loud noise and the vehicle immediately lowered. The contact stated that the rear driver's side tire exploded. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that both the lower and upper ball joints snapped and caused the rear driver side tire to explode from the force of the impact. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 158,000.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra.the ball joints were replaced.shortly after the repair, while driving between 5 to 55 mph, the vehicle began pulling to the right.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for an alignment, but the failure continued.the vin was unknown.the current mileage was 46,000 and failure mileage was 43,000.

The frame rusted to the point that it will not pass a state inspection. The brakes would not stop the vehicle when in forward motion, which caused an accident.
Significant frame corrosion in multiple areas to include one area with a hole all the way through the frame rail, and most acutely where the rear leaf spring connects to the frame with only 50% of the contact area appearing to be structurally sound. Dealer states nothing they can do. Two auto restoration shops state the frame is going to fail and cause an accident.

Frame has prematurely rusted resulting in the sway bar mounting bracket to break off. Frame is close to complete failure which would result in fuel and brake lines severing with catastrophic result.

I was driving my 2005 toyota tundra on the interstate. I came upon road work and slowed to the 45 mph speed limit. All of the sudden the truck dropped to the front left with a loud crash. Sparks were flying and i lost control of the vehicle for a brief time. I was able to slow and steer the truck to safety. I got out of the truck to see the front drivers side wheel buckled underneath the truck and major damages to that side of the vehicle. I'm very lucky to have slowed for road work. If i had of been doing interstate speeds of 70 mph i would not have been able to handle the vehicle and could have had severe and fatal consequences. Every day for the prior week or so i noticed the trucks steering being weird(pulling a little to the right side and not being able be steered with the normal ease) and it making a loud squeaking sound when turning.
My 2005 toyota tundra's control joints messed up while i was driving.
Recall on toyota tundra in 2007.the ball joints were found to be defective because of a hardness issue on the surface treatment of the ball.the failure would be a premature wearing or failure of the joint.toyota did issue a recall and repairs made to the vehicle.after the repair the vehicle had a hard pull to the right and vibration that did not exist prior to the repair.after taking it back to the dealer, they found the steering wheel and front end out of alignment.the dealer repaired these but did not fix the problem.after a total of 4 visits over a 6 month period the vehicle still has a dangerous pull vibration.the dealer cannot repair the problem.
Limited service campaign dsd 2004-11006 tundra frame inspection.i bought an 05 tundra last year.called toyota and they said this recall is over.my frame needs repairing.they are not helping.do i have any recourse?
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the front driver's side tire. The vehicle became inoperable as the front driver's side wheel detached from the vehicle. As a result, the front of the vehicle hit the ground. The contact was able to pull the vehicle towards the right side shoulder of the beltway. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the upper and lower ball joints fractured, damaged the abs sensor, and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 128,000.

Perforations in frame along seams due to rust isolated to the driver side front frame rail. Toyota is aware of this problem and refuse service and repair.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. The contact stated that while having a routine inspection for an oil change the dealer (loyalty toyota 2000 walthall center dr, chester, va 23831, (804) 796-1800) notice corrosion around the driver side rear wheel well. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not subjected to a recall. The contact mentioned nhtsa campaign number: 09v444000 (structure) as a possible solution to the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000. The vin was not available.
The main chassis has has rusted and broken
Please help
The leaf springs have broken and frame is showing serious rust damage. Brake lines were leaking and had to be replaced.

Received recall ssc 70b-front suspension lower ball joint safety recall noticere on or around 6/07/07. Called dealership for appointment to replace, heather in service said they would have to order the part and it would take 3 to 6 weeks for them to receive, at that time they would call me for an appointment. I said that was a long time to wait and she said they only get 5 at a time once a week or every other week, that it was a national recall. My point was then shouldn't there be more of these parts available with a shorter wait time. Very upsetting about the delay in getting the part replaced, as it seems according to the recall notice a possiblity of a crash may occur do to the defective part.
Toyota tundra with ball joint replacement. Consumer states they would not give him copies of the other invoices he signed. Consumer wants to know why they wouldn't give him copies.the consumer stated when he arrived home, he looked under the vehicle and it appeared that no work had been performed on the suspension.

Driving wb on hwy 4 near douglas flat, ca approx 55 mph on two lane highway. The 2005 toyota tundra 4wddriver side front wheel detached, foldingunder front left side frame behind wheel well with the truck landing on the flat side of the wheel. I was then in a controlled skid on a straight part of the highway and held the steering wheel in that position. I did not apply the brakes as i did not want to alter the direction of the skid. The vehicle drifted slightly to the right after about a 150 foot skid. The wheel hub had separated from the upper and lower control arm, the ball joint had detached from the a-frame, and the wheel and tire (replaced two weeks prior) were damaged. The only thing apparently holding the wheel to the frame was the steering rod. Not being a mechanic or had the vehicle looked at by a mechanic as yet i am not sure of all damage sustained. Pictures of the scene show a single skid mark on the drivers side. I contacted my toyota dealer who didn't seem to interested since there were no injuries. This incident occurred with 72,000 miles on the truck meaning that the 36 month, 36,000 mile warranty would not cover the damage. In researching the ball joint complaint i found that there was a recall on the 2004 tundra. It was lucky that i wasn't injured since the previous day i had been returning from a job site via nb parrotts ferry road which is about a 1000 ft descent on a curving road which in several places drops off into the canyon and reservoir below.

I have a safety recall on the 2005 toyota tundra for the lower ball joints.i took it to the dealer were i purchased the truck and they told me 6 to 8 weeks for just the parts to come in. I drive on the interstate a lot,and there wasshimmying in the front end. I told the dealer that, and the service technician told me if they break they will put me in a rental. What if they break and i am killed or somebody else dies. I think this is a big problem.
I was driving in the local streets, and while making a right turn after stopping at a red light, the front passenger side of the vehicle suddenly collapsed with no warning. I was traveling at most 10 mph. The vehicle has never showed any sign of failure or noise until that day. After i pulled over to the side of the road, i got out of the vehicle to inspect the car and found the ball joint in upper control arm had completely tear itself apart from the wheel hub. Fortunately for me, no serious damage to the car other than the failed components and worn tires due to my having to drag the car on the side of the tire to pull over to safety occurred. I was not injured in the incident, but had i been driving on the highway at the time of failure, i wouldn't be here typing this. Afterwards, we had aaa tow the car to a local dealership to see whether toyota will take responsibility of the failure of its part.

The air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt failed to properly restrain the contact.the contact was transported to the hospital where he received treatment for several injuries including injuries to the neck and vertebrae, a partial collapsed lung, rotator cuff injuries to the right shoulder, and tears to the biceps. A police report was filed of the incident. The vehicle was towed to a body shop and declared destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the approximate failure and current mileage was 180,000.
Driving on 81 n (mile marker 160) in pa at 7:10 am when front passenger tire blows out. This caused me to swerve across both lanes come back hit the guard rail. Truck flips over onto guardrail, slides for a ways on guard rail, then rolls over as it descends a hill. The blowout was in my lane (gauge in pavement) without any object in the road. Tire lost pressureinstantaneously. Both tow driver & insurance adjuster pointed out tire as cause of accident. The tire was a michelin ltx m/s2 with 33000 miles on it, but it had a 70000 mile warranty. Shape & direction of tear in tire is in the opposite direction of the tire rotation, so i take this as additional evidence that i didn't run over an object in the road.
I have multi mile wild country tires installed on my truck which are only a few months and a few thousand miles old.two of the tires have sidewall separation cracks and one is leaking air through the crack.they are:size 265/70r16dot# u9c2 t93 3213.
Tire pressure monitoring system does not work as designed.for the last 24,000 miles the system has not worked as intended with multiple failures of multiple types.initial failures clustered around the pressure in the spare being set at a different pressure than the drive tires.secondary failures clustered around the fact that the drive tires heated during operation and were subsequently at a different temperature and thus pressure than the spare.inclusion of the monitor on the spare seems a design flaw.if the spare is needed than their will already be a tire on/inthe vehicle signaling to the computer that a pressure event has occurred.since the system does not signal which tire is low the information from the spare can only be a problem.third the tire pressure monitor light started blinking.diagnosis was a failed tpm sensor.consultation at toyota dealershipwith three master mechanics and a service manager established this as a chronic problem in toyotas, especially if a tire is ever replaced.their professional recommendation was a piece of black electrical tape over the light on the dash.they did offer to get the replacement sensor in.even with the vin they were unable to ascertain what part it is though.toyota has two different sensors for this vehicle and there is apparently no way to determine the proper part until disassembly. Having a dash warning light on for thousands of miles desensitizes drives to important lights when they illuminate. If toyota is unable to produce a system that works properly they should provide some way for dealers or owners to disable the system.unfortunately the dealership indicates that no such work around is available.
The contact owns 2005 toyota tundra. While driving at approximately 35 mph, the contact heard a thump and the spare tire fell from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed the cable holding the tire rotted. The vehicle was serviced for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000 and the current mileage was approximately 19,200
Perforations in frame along seams due to rust isolated to the driver side front frame rail. Toyota is aware of this problem and refuse service and repair.
Secondary air injection system failure, causing the service engine light to come on and fail state emotions testing.
I just sent the following email to toyota.i hope that nhtsa can follow up as this is very concerning:i was horrified by the spanish speaking toyota tundra commercial i just saw.it is inconceivable that toyota would have a commercial showing little children crawling under a car to try to get a ball out from under it.children shlould never go under a car, whether it is moving or not.they can't tell the difference!this is absolutely shameful.toyota should immediately pull this commercial.please do not be responsible for the death or serious injury of a child or children who crawl under a car after seeing this commercial.
I recently learned that the frame on my 2005 toyota tundra has rusted completely through and the vehicle cannot be driven safely. We never received notice of a repair campaign. Both toyota dealership and corporate rejected my request to have the frame replaced. The vehicle has only 56,000.
Gas tank strap rusted thru and broke. Brake lines rusted thru and leaked differential rusted thru and leaked. Frame excessively and extensively rusted.
Upon close inspection (vehicle parked) the truck has severe (more than average) corrosion/ perforation (rust) of the main frame/ chassis. Toyota had undercoated the vehicle to resolve the issue although this only masked the underlying corrosion, allowing for the corrosion to go unnoticed. The frame has currently perforated (visible holes/ rust in the integral structure). The vehicles main structure is compromised do to the poor material/ excessive corrosion. The vehicles safety may be severely compromised.
Horn, airbag and cruise control light on do to a bad spiral cable, this is dangerous. This is a ongoing problem with this vehicle.
The frame and cross members are deteriorated to the point of breaking.the front driveshaft and steering linkage is excessively deteriorated. The brake and fuel tank brackets are also deteriorated and are failing to support attached components
In 2015, my vehicle was part of a toyota recall for cold weather vehicles, to undercoat the frame to mitigate any possible problems from snow, ice and salt rusting out the frame prematurely.i complied, bringing my vehicle to the local toyota dealer, heritage ford & toyota, 1620 shelburne rd., so. Burlington, vt.they had my vehicle for 3 days, and removed the pick up body from the vehicle and undercoated the frame from the transmission cross member to the rear of the frame.this past tues.,aug. 8th, 2017, i had my vehicle at my local service station to have the oil changed, and to have the front brakes looked at. Soon after they drove the vehicle into the service bay, my mechanic came to me and said he had something to show me.that's when he showed me the holes on the top rail of the frame just back from the engine motor mount on the passenger side of the vehicle. I was horrified when my mechanic told me this condition essentially rendered my vehicle uninspectable. I went back to heritage toyota where i had the undercoating done, and they said basically, since they had met the original conditions of the 2015 recall, there was nothing more they were required to do for me. They referred me to the toyota customer care telephone number.when i called the case worker, cheryl from toyota, she told me the same thing that heritage toyota had told me, they had covered themselves by completing the recall requirements for my vehicle, and there was nothing more they could do.my case # for toyota was 1708081681.i feel that either heritage toyota or toyota motor corp. Are stillresponsible for whathappened to my truck. Heritage, because they had my vehicle for 3 days, & they could have checked the frame in the engine well at some point. And toyota motor corp, because they have had very well documented frame issues with it's trucks for many years.
Cold start of vehicle, very large noise, lasted about 1 minute.only does this when cold start. If vehicle has been driven no sound. Research indicate, that other problems noted on the internet were the air injection pump, and switching values, has foam that has deteriorated and fell down on the dc motor and burned the motor out.seems the manufacture knows of the problem but has only certain model years they are covering.same part in all years but not covering 2005 which is the model year of my truck.if same part is on different model years they should cover all model years that have this part as it seems this is a very expensive repair.this is a requirement to utilized to improve cold-start emissions, which is mandated requirement. Toyota's customers have a customer support program to extend the warranty should be with all model years that have this part.i have as of yesterday taken my truck to the dealership as i am pretty sure this is the problem.diagnosis should be forth coming.many complaints on internet for this same model year and problem.
Please help
Thanks jim
Service bulletin p2445 for secondary air ingection system then notes the frame is corrosion and mounts are braking off
I purchased this vehicle used aprox 10 years ago.
Parking brake engaged partially.also the engine idled too fast.this combination lead to the vehicle to start moving unexpectedly.as a result my wife injurered her foot and damage to the vehicle was sustained.this could have easily resulted in a fatality.
Uncontrollable acceleration:my husband's 2005 toyota tundra accelerated at a very high speed while he had his foot on the brake at a stop sign.he had his back pushed up against the seat and pushed as hard as he could on the brake, but the truck took off anyways and he was forced to pull out in front of oncoming traffic.luckily he wasn't hit.this is the second time this has happened in this truck.in january of 2015 he was backing into our driveway when his truck suddenly accelerated at a very high speed.he put his foot on the brake and the tires kept spinning.he put the transmission into park and after a few more seconds the tires stopped spinning.we contacted toyota after both occurrences, but they won't help us at all.they say that the truck isn't included in the recall and that it's no longer under warranty.
My gas pedal has repeatedly continued to stick in my 2005 toyota tundra.it continues to accelerate, even when my foot is completely off of the gas pedal. I have contacted the dealer and have yet to receive a response.
My vehicle suddenly lost power because the plastic fan in the secondary injection system broke and the pieces blew into the exhaust ports and melt, sticking up the exhaust ports. The vehicle doesn't run right and is a safety hazard because of a design problem. Toyota accepts the problem and has extended the vehicle warranties for the 2007-2010 model years, but not for my model year. Repair has cost me over $3,000 for their mistake. It is a safety hazard. It should be recalled.
Driving at highway speed, with cruise control engaged, and beginning to climb a gentle hill, engine suddenly accelerates at full throttle, and the transmission downshifts two gears.it causes the vehicle to suddenly and rapidly accelerate.vehicle is very difficult to control on snowy, or rain slick roadways.if following another vehicle that slows on hill, such as a semi tractor-trailer, there is eminent danger of a rear-end collision.this is not an isolated incident, it occurs every time three conditions are met:1.cruise control is engaged.2.vehicle drives up incline or hill.3.highway speed.
Horn, airbag and cruise control light on do to a bad spiral cable, this is dangerous. This is a ongoing problem with this vehicle.
2005 toyota tundra, unintended acceleration, my husband was putting it in the driveway and it accelerated into the neighbors fence and drove over a four wheeler if he hadn't put it into park he would have continued into the neighbors house. The acceleration problems have happened quite a few more times though not to this extent, toyota is refusing to fix or even take a look at the truck, saying it isn't on the recall list so it isn't their fault. The toyota problem is bigger than they are admitting to and some investigating is necessary, this truck is a danger and they are responsible.
2005 toyota v8 tundra.bought new in 2005.when going up hill/incline with cruise control engaged, vehicle dangerously accelerates causing the tires to loose traction on wet or loose surfaces.i noticed this problem shortly after i purchased it. I no longer use the cruise control feature on my tundra.i previously owned a 2000 tundra and the same thing occurred with the cruise control on that vehicle.seems to be a major/dangerous problem with the tundra.
*ln
On february 2, 2010 at about 6:20am while driving my toyota tundra 2005 ,v8 engine,on highway 101 west bound when my vehicle suddenly accelerated on me. I was on lane one between barham ave. & vineland ave when it all happen, making me change lanes at an unsafe speed trying it to control it. I had my foot off the accelerator but it keep going at about 75-80 mph. There was no cruise control on and iwas shocked about the sudden acceleration. The vehicle finally came to normal driving conditions at about 1/4 of a mile from vineland ave.
2005 toyota tundra -- 3 times it sped up on its own.either floormat and/or accelerator.third time there was a crash, into our retaining wall in our driveway.i tried to get people to pay attention, contacted customer service, etc., at toyota, no one believed it.also insurance company said it was driver's fault.
I drive a 2005 toyota tundra that has accelerated about a dozen times since i bought it. Seems that when i hit a major bump that's rising across the lane i'm in and go across it, my truck will accelerate momentarily without me pressing on the gas pedal. I cannot always duplicate this action and when i go to the dealer it comes back as problem not found. As i mentioned it's only occurred maybe a dozen times since 2005 but it is a concern after all the recalls that toyota has had. I recently completed 95,000 miles on my vehicle and have been happy with it's performance with this exception.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. The contact was driving 45 mph when the vehicle failed to increase speed after the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that the pump assembly air switch needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 57,500 and the current mileage was 57,700.
Loss of acceleration power. Dealer quote $3,745 to replace pump/valve/driver assemblies. Told by repair shop same issue as technical bulletin addressed on 2007-2010 tundras power issues. If true, seems a recall should have been required to repair 2005 year models.
We own "two" 2005 toyota tundra double cabs that are equipped the same. Both of these vehicles exhibit the same saftey issue. The issue: when driving with cruise control "on" at speeds of 70 mph, on slightly uphill track, the cruise control will command the vehicle to maximum throttle, shifing the transmission into passing gear. This action on the 287 horsepower vehicle, causes the rear tires to break loose on wet roads and can cause loss of control of the vehicle, sending it off the road or into a spin. Both vehicles we own exhibit this behavior and it has been reported to toyota case # 200510040775.
Cruise control down shifts two gears on slight upgrades.even elevation changes of less than fifty feet on the highway can trigger this.the sudden unintended application of full throttle acceleration is alarming and dangerous.this surge or power always result in the cruise control surging past the set speed usually by five miles per hour.depending on terrain this can happen as often as every twenty seconds!
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra.while driving 45 mph, the rear window shattered in the vehicle.the contact covered the window with a sleeping bag and drove to her residence.through online research, she noticed numerous complaints for the same failure she experienced.the manufacturer stated that there were no recalls; therefore, the contact would be responsible for the repair.the vehicle has not yet been repaired.the current and failure mileages were 48,000.updated 03/17/09. *ljupdated 03/17/09.
Windows are very loose and rattle excessively. Truck has been to dealer seven times, they did have a bulletin on the window regulator and replaced it but it was not the source of the problem. Dealer gave up on the problem and said it could not be fixed.
The contact owns a 2005 toyota tundra. The contact stated that the windshield displayed a bubble affect in the glass disrupting his vision.the contact took the vehicle to an authorized toyota dealer and was informed that the failure was not related to any existing recalls. The failure mileage was 32,000 and the current mileage was 35,000.
Windshield wiper motor failed to work. 6 month old truck and the windshield wiper motor assembly failed. Toyota fixed it under warranty. Had to wait 2 days for the parts. 10 month later the windshield wiper motor failed again. This is a truck with less then 20k miles. In both cases i had to drive home in the rain without any wipers. 1st incident 2/22/06, 2nd 12/25/06.

2005 toyota tundra doublecab, paint on wheels started bubbling, causing loss of air pressure in tires, had rims cleaned of peeling paint, all 4 wheels continue to leak air. Causing different air pressure in tires and causing tires to go flat.
I have been having this screeching noise from the front under the hood next to the tires. When driving i felt its vibration and the front wheels were about to come off. I took it to my mechanic to look at it and he told me that the bolt joints on both side of the front are about to come off. He told me that he had seem customers wheels came off the freeways. On february 6, 2014, i have the bolt joints replaced in the total amount of $1,014.98. With this issue, i am very concern why toyota has not recall this problem. My problem could have been worse if i was driving on the freeway and the wheels come off. Who knows what would have had happened. All i want is to have this matter solved by toyota pay my service bill.
