No deployment of air bag inaccident.

My wife and son were involved in a head on collision and the passenger airbag did not deploy in our new 2013 toyota 4runner. My wife was almost at a stop because she had seen the vehicle in front of her get hit by the same driver. The driver never put on brakes and hit my wife head on at about 40 mph. Two airbags deployed for my wife from the steering wheel and under the steering wheel. My wife and son both suffered whiplash and bruising from seat belts. My son weighs 95 pounds. My wife received burns and cuts on her legs and arms from the airbags. I contacted toyota and they started a claim to find out why my son's airbag did not deploy. It has been 25 days since this occurred and the third party that was supposed to come out and collect edr information has not done so as of today. The car was undrivable after the accident and was towed to a body shop. The insurance company has said that the vehicle is repairable even though it has frame damage, major front end damage, and airbag deployment with an estimate of $12,000 in damage.

2005 toyota. Toyota run away accelerating*cwthe consumer stated the sudden acceleration problem goes all the way back to 2002. The consumer stated she had her foot on the brakes while behind another vehicle, when suddenly the vehicle went out of control crashing into the vehicle in front of her. The consumer believed it was an electrical problem not a pedal problem. Updated 03/12/10

While a new 2014 travel trailer was attached to the 2013 toyota 4runner the wiring directly behind the 7pin female receptacle caught on fire. The vehicle had been running with the trailer hooked up for approximately 15-20min after all lights were tested on the trailer.the vehicle was turned off and a fire extinguisher used to put out the electrical fire, and the battery disconnected to prevent any power. Toyota roadside service was contacted and local tow company came and pulled the fuse from the vehicle for the towing. The rest of the vehicle operated as normal and no signs of any damage or blown fuses. The vehicle was then driven to the dealer the following day as it was deemed safe to drive directly to the shop. Toyota dealer was notified and stated that the trailer most likely caused the electrical short and stated does not appear to be warranty work as it backfed into the receptacle. I explained the situation and was informed a toyota field representative and servicemanager would contact me to inspect the trailer wiring. I have not been contacted since. I had an independent rv company test the trailer on 1/28/2014 and confirmed the trailer electrical system and 7pin harness are fully operational and in working order. The trailer was purchased new 1 week ago. There is no damage to the trailer or any of its electrical components. The trailer was hooked up to another truck after the incident and towed with no issues. There is a brake controller attached to the 4runner with a 1 piece harness. This plugs into the factory trailer braking system under the dash and then has a factory plug for the controller. All was still operational at the time of the incident and no damage to the unit.i am currently attempting to resolve the issue with thetoyota dealer. The vehicle damage requires complete replacement of the wiring harness.

They spray the wiring with a chemical that prohibits corrosion that smells like peanut butter.rodents are attracted to that smell and chew on the wiring.this is a safety issue.

My 2013 toyota 4runner ltd, on three different times this past month, activated its vsc/ abs system when i was turning on a winding road. I was traveling at or below the posted speed limit( 30 mph or less).this caused the vehicle to apply the abs to the outside front wheel which pulled me off the road or across the double yellow line into oncoming traffic. I had no control of the vehicle when the vcs/abs system activated. If not for the low speed the outcome would have been much worse. I notified toyota service and have appointment to check same on 4-2-2014. After reading numerous accounts about toyota 4runners having the same issue ( www.toyota-4runner.org) i felt that this was a larger issue which should be reported.

The contact owns a 2013 toyota 4runner. While driving at approximately 60 mph, the vehicle began to jerk. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle did not accelerate. Senator allen wrote on behalf of consumer group that has been very vocal about engine seizing in toyota vehicles that were showing signs of oil sludge in engine oil, and premature loss of viscosity related to either premature oil break down or extensive fuel in oil. Petitioned nhtsa to look into the matter again.previous petition was denied by nhtsa because it appeared to have limited safety implications within the meaning of nhtsa's authorizing statute.

Engine leak caused lock up and failure.

External oil leaks at valve cover gasket and rear main seal caused engine to operate with low oil level, causing the number two rod bearing to fail (lock-up).

I currently have 2000 miles on a 2013 toyota 4 runner sr5 (purchased new). In the first 30 days of city and freeway driving, it averaged 14.5 mpg to 15.6 mpg. In the following months (3.5 total), it averaged 15.4 to an occasional 16.6 mpg. A far cry from the claimed "17 city, 19 combined, 22 hwy). A toyota mechanic tested the vehicle (10 miles) and claimed the vehicle's average is 19.5 mpg per their computer...is toyota misrepresenting the fuel consumption of the 4 runner? if so, should 4 runners owners be compensated?

I find the engine (rpm's) tend to accelerate at times when traveling in either going up or down inclines or declines that are minimal.it corrects itself within a few seconds after tapping the brakes.it has happened numerous times, the last one i've noted below

When entering highway from acceleration lane, the truck would not accelerate past 45mph. When the pedal was pushed towards the floor when going 45, the engine would lose power and the vehicle would start to decrease in speed. I continued to drive to the next exit 2 miles away and then the power returned to exceed 45 mph. Never repeated the issue until 9/15/13. Same scenario, accelerating onto the highway. Loss of power at 45mph. Had to pull over to the emergency lane as traffic was coming up behind me at 70+mph.accelerated after a full stop and reentered the highway. The truck then ran normally. Took it to the dealer and they could not duplicate the problem. Dealer stated that if it happened again, they would establish a case with toyota. I have avoided an accident on both previous occasions but now i have to be conscious of avoiding other traffic at any moment. I purchased new to avoid this kind of headache.

My '13 te has had a vibration issue become more and more noticable lately. It's probably been happening to some extent for awhile, but now that i'm dealing with slow highway traffic more often, it's much more noticable and violent.between 5-10mph (and sometimes up to 15mph) the front end shakes violently and eventually spreads to the cabin. I can replicate this at any time i wish on any type of road. Tires are balanced and vehicle is properly aligned. The steering does feel loose and like it's shaking at times while going over bumps or rough roads.so far the shaking happens: in 4wdin 2wdin 1st and 2nd gearin neutralin 4wd neutralunder brakingunder accelerationin neutral with the engine offunder braking in neutral with the engine offand in 4wd neutral with the engine off

The contact owns a 2013 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that the rear driver side seat belt seized and trapped the child. The more she tried to un-latch the seat belt the tighter it became causing a great deal of pain to the child. After a considerable amount of time, she decided to cut the seat belt and the child escaped. A dealer was notified but stated because the vehicle was not purchased at that location they could not assist. The manufacturer was notified and stated they would send someone to investigate in 2-3 days but 3 weeks later, she had still not heard from the representative. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 2,300.

Toyota. Consumer writes in regards to time frame unavailableto consumer for seat belt recall repairs.

The contact owns a 2013 toyota 4runner. The contact stated that the rear middle seat would move forward and backward independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who advised that the seat was operating as designed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 400.

The second row seat backs move back and forth when in the locked position--they seem very loose--the toyota dealer says this is normal--could this be a safety issue?

Toyota. Consumer writes in regards to poor quality of front seats. *ldthe consumer stated when it rains the window is blocked by a steady stream of water.

2nd row seat of the non third row option.the 60% part of the seat has a lot of wiggle play to it.i feel it is a safety concern with regard to car seats and passenger security.people who have rode on this side of the seat have gotten nauseated from sitting there and did not feel secure with the seat moving around.complaint made to toyota with no action made to this point.

Seat goes off track when adjusting.

My car was rear ended while i was stopped at a yield sign waiting to merge onto a parkway.the small car that hit me was probably traveling at approximately 30 mph. The collision caused my driver's seat to move forward and it stopped just before i hit the steering wheel.toyota inspected the seat on may 8, 2013 and their legal department advised me by letter dated june 13, 2013 that there was no evidence to reveal a manufacturing or design defect with the seat. Toyota said that they would not "honor" the claim for repair/replacement of the power seat mechanism because it "moved through its entire range of motion" upon inspection.

The vehicle was purchased used in june 2014. On 6 occasions starting several months after the purchase, the most recent on 04/09/2016 the brakes have seized when applying firm pressure on the peddle. Not a panic stop, but just trying to loose speed quickly. On each occasion the vehicle skidded. On each occasion the speed was greater than 30 mph but less than 45 mph. I took the vehicle to the toyota dealer in wilsonville or but they were unable to duplicate the problem or identify the cause. This was on 08/14/2015. The mileage at the time was 40902. The incidents have all been on city streets. My greatest concern is that this brake incident will occur on wet pavement or snow while entering a curve. As this is a suv with high center of gravity i'm concerned the vehicle will roll over. I have installed a dash mount camera to try and obtain video evidence of the event. Repair invoice is attached.

The anti lock braking system is too sensitive, and engages wat to easily, and causes the tires to lock up and the vehicle to stop and surge.this has happened to me on multiple occasions.i took my vehicle to the dealer 2 weeks ago complaining about the issue, and they said it is a known issue for this vehicle and the toyota tundra pick up truck.they said that there was no fix. This is unacceptable, and is the reason why i am filing a complaint.

I have always felt that something was wrong with the breaking on my 2013 toyota 4runner sr5. My first experience was that when approaching a corner in which the road may not be smooth the abs system completely disengaged and the brake pedal became useless and the vehicle kept going. The second incident was when my wife was driving she was approaching another vehicle that stopped abruptly, she applied the brakes and she reported that the vehicle would not stop and starting sliding into the back of a lincoln navigator, no damage to the lincoln, however my vehicle suffered under 2500 dollars of damage. In both incidents the vehicles brakes did not stop the sliding vehicle at low speed due to the degraded road and abs system not functioning appropriately.

Toyota. Consumer writes in regards to toyota hybrid brake failures causing crashes and injury. *ld

When accelerating up to speed on an onramp to the freeway at about 40 mph traffic came to a halt and i had to brake quickly. I did not push the brakes much harder than normal and what felt like all 4 tires locked up and the abs did not kick in. It also was duplicated in the same manner multiple times. Additionally, when i took it into the dealership, they were able to duplicate the lock-up, but they said it was the rear tires. When they contacted toyota national service they were told it is normal and it is working as designed. I feel that this slows down the vehicle slower than abs and in a very unsafe manner as it makes the suv unpredictable to control. Additionally, i was able to duplicate it at slower speeds @25 mph when accelerating and moving quickly to the brake pedal it will lock up the tires. Each time, it does not take much more pressure than standard braking to cause this issue which was duplicated at the local dealership.

Consumer stating that toyota entered into an agreement with a company to manufacturer cheaper replacement brake pads.the consumer stated the brake pads were distributed through a replacement tire supplier. After several months of distribution a number of quality problems were reported.

The steering wheel locked up as the consumer exited the freeway.the vehicle was towed to the dealer but they were unable to locate the problem.*nlm

Toyota vehicle. Consumer states that he has identified the cause of the vehicle surge or at least one of the causes.*tgwthe consumer stated he owns four toyota's and has reported the sudden acceleration problem to toyota on more than one occasion. The consumer stated when traveling at low speeds, one can use the brake pedal alone to allow the forward motion of the vehicle by relieving the pressure slightly and then pressingdown again to stop; such as in stop and go traffic. In those circumstances the plane of the brake pedal will descend below the plane of the gas pedal. In this circumstance, if one's foot is partially on the brake pedal and partially over the gas pedal, it will cause the gas pedal to descend and the vehicle to accelerate. The natural tendency when this occurs is to press further on the brake pedal which actually further engages the gas pedal as well as the brake pedal and cause the vehicle to lurch forward. The solution for the problem from a driver's point of view, is to be more careful about foot placement.the solution for the pedals would be to make certain that the brake pedal is always higher than the gas pedal.

When the vehicle is started and the ac/heater fan runs there is a foul moldy smell coming thru the vents. Doing a search on the web i see that many people are complaining about the same musty/moldy problem. This has to be a health issue to say the least. As time goes on the odor is getting worse. Dealers only spray some deodorizing spray into the vents which lasts long enough for you to leave the dealership but that's not correcting the problem. Mold becomes a major issue when it comes to selling a home, so i believe it should also be the same in the confined spaces of a vehicle. Spending $36,000 on a vehicle that smells like a gym locker is unacceptable.

Below is the basic sequence of events surrounding the issue.1.4runner was sitting for long period of time in cold weather (see temps for january 30th/31st).2.we were driving 4runner for approx 15 minutes in stop and go city traffic (low speeds)3.we hopped on i-205 headed back to eugene and were traveling at highway speed (65 mph) for approx 10 minutes4.sunroof was closed. The interior sunroof sliding cover was back/open.5.we heard an extremely loud noise comparable to a shotgun blast and felt a major change in pressure6.myself, my wife, and kids were covered with chunks of glass - as well as very fine slivers7.the sound of the wind over the hole in the sunroof was obvious and we looked up (we first thought we were hit by another car).8.the initial hole was approx fist sized9.as glass continued to fall into the car, we closed the interior cover.10.glass continued to fly backwards off of our car into traffic.11.when we stopped we could see that the glass was blown out (upwards) from the car. 12.the hole was then approx double in size.13.it was dark by the time we arrived home in eugene so i took the photos the next morning.14.we used tape to cover the hole and as an attempt to keep the remaining glass from falling down (worked pretty well)15.also of note is the roof/skybox - the sunroof, and particularly the hole in the sunroof, are protected from above by the box - eliminating the possibility of a single object landing from above.
