Hit a small bump ( pot hole) bounced pretty hard, did not bottom out.the warning lights came on immediately, cluster gage's and center warning ligh on dashboard center (air bag off ) trucks speed 35-45mph two lane highway
Went through a car wash and both rear corners of the cab leaked enough that the water was gushing in. The headliner got soaked, if this hits electrical components it could short an electrical system possibly resulting in affected electrical components shutting down increasing the possibility of an accident. Or worse, could damage the srs airbag located in the next to the rear seats. The file type of the pictures i have are not the format accepted so they will not upload.
Yesterday my son was in an accident where he rear ended another car ataround40 mph, the other car was stopped. The accident occurred on a city street in fremont, california.a police report was filed. What is concerning is that the air bags did not deploy.see the attached photo.
I pulled up to park the truck. After put in park the 2017 toyota tacoma lunged forward. This caused the vehicle to hit a brick wall. There was almost $5950.00 in damage to the truck and the airbags did not go off. I watched myself crash into the wall and could not stop the truck.
The contact owned a 2017 toyota tacoma. While driving approximately 40 mph, another vehicle crossed over the double yellow lines and struck the contact's vehicle head on. None of the frontal air bags deployed. Police report number: [xxx] was filed. The vehicle was towed to a private impound lot. The driver and passenger in the contact's vehicle were transported to the hospital via ambulance. The passenger sustained a broken knee cap, head trauma, and whiplash. The driver suffered two herniated discs and nerve damage. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and sent a third party company to inspect the vehicle. The dealer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 31,000. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The drivers side heated seat connector and heater amp burned up and shorted out. This connector is located under the seat. I feel this is a fire hazard to say the least. I went on the internet and this seems to be a common problem. I called toyota usa they said to take it to the dealer to get it fixed but it is not covered under a warranty. One day last week the heated seat stopped working and there was a slight odor of burning plastic.
Blower motor (squirrel cage) separated from blower motor output shaft while vehicle was running and stopped.began making loud rattling noise.can see crack in squirrel cage though cabin air filter access point in back of glove box.no effective operation of ac, heat, or front windshield defrost.o'brien toyota dealership in indianapolis indiana declined request to cover under goodwill warranty because it is 20,000 miles over mileage limit, despite being a part failure that puts safe vehicle operation at risk.
I have a 2017 toyota tacoma with 53000 miles on it.the squirrel cage on the ac blower motor broke today during a 100 degree day.from what i can see on line there is a back order on the replacement part. The plastic female port for the shaft cracked in half and not the cage makes a horrendous noise. Poor design: metal shaft spinning inside plastic is a recipe for a stress crack which is what this appears to be. My truck is out of warranty so now i am stuck paying for the repair!!
The high mount rear stop lamp leaks water into the cab. The water channels in through a cheap gasket, down the inside of the frame, destroying the cushions and plastic through moisture and mildew. Toyota corporation and precision toyota of tucson (service) az, both say the problem is only covered by the regular 36,000 mileage, 3 year warranty. They want to charge me $575 to replace the light.however, the known issue doesn't occur because of miles driven or even age of the vehicle. I live in the desert and it has not rained significantly since i bought the truck new in 2017, according to the national weather service. This year, with record rains, water is freely seeping in to the cab. Toyota should recall tacomas with this issue and replace the cheap gasket it used to manufacture these trucks.
Left turn signal quit working while driving on a city street making a left turn. Toyota took 4.5 hours to diagnose the problem.said it was in the instrument cluster affecting the turn signal and odometer.said it would take a week to get part and they needed to know how many miles i would drive in that week because the odometer had to be set to existing miles plus the miles i drive during the week.one week later was told the part was on back order and it would be 30 to 60 days for the part.i googled the problem and found many complaints of "left turn signal going out" on toyota tacomas dating as far back as 2012. Obviously toyota knows of the problem.have they fixed the problem on the replacement part or is it pron to go out again.how many people have had to drive for one or two months without a left turn signal, how many accidents have occured because of not having a left turn signal, how many citations have been issued for failure to use turn signal.how many vehicles do not have the correct mileage on the odometer, mine wont unless they contact me and ask how many miles i have driven prior to shipping the part as i was told it had to be set at the factory before shipping.in addition the diagnostic coast was $150.00 the part will be $750.00 plus labor to install.i feed toyota should have known exactly what the problem was when told the left turn signal quit.i googled it in less that 5 minutes.so far no invoices to share.
The radio system continually reboots during inclimate weather.
Two major issues on my truck:1) the front driver side suspension has been squeaking whether the vehicle is in motion or not. 2) the radio unit reboots itself randomly and multiple times during a short drive rendering the backup camera useless.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. While driving at an undisclosed speed with the cruise control set to 72 mph, the instrument panel failed to operate as intended. While the vehicle was parked, the speedometer displayed 55 mph. The vehicle was taken to haley toyota of roanoke (1530 courtland rd ne, roanoke, va 24012, (540) 345-1666) where it was diagnosed that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The manufacturer was notified and opened case number: 1803130625. The approximate failure mileage was 2,800.
Truck cab fan plastic squirrel cage (the air mover) has separated from fan motor shaft. Cannot run fan, therefore cannot defrost windshield or run heater/air conditioner, all are potentially dangerous issues. Problem present whether vehicle is stationary or in motion.
Purchased truck july 24, 2017 from mark miller toyota in salt lake city, utah. In the first 6 months i lost brakes 3 times. Went to dealer each time. They couldn't duplicate so no repairs made. After the 3 times a recall came out, 18v888. Exact symptoms. Then a forth time happened and they said the recall doesn't effect my vin so they still have to duplicate. Today, february 27, 2019 truck wouldn't stop and i ran thru a stop sign, and it was cont on my dash cam. With this problem my seats are loose and sometimes don't lock. When ever in 4 wheel drive the seat belts lock up and wont unlock lock. I've had nothing but issues with this truck and nothing will ever get fixed and i'm scared to drive my vehicle especially when my dealer won't repair anything. Also believe it has something to do with the vehicles off-road option, crawl control, which uses abs.
Ac fan blower came apart.dealership says they are on back order.i have 42,000 miles and they will not cover it under warranty.
Drivers side seat heater stopped working. I researched online and found this to be a common issue and was probably due to a burnt up connection at seat heater amp located under the driver seat. I contacted my dealer and told them there is a visibly burnt connection but was advised that since i was 600 miles past warranty, there was nothing they could do. I called toyota usa and got a case number and was again told there was nothing they could do.with all the images of burnt connectors this seems to be a fire hazard.
Occasionally when driving the speedometer does not show the accurate speed such as the speedometer show 0 when going 30mph. There is also a weird metal clanking noise which sounds like its coming from the transmission and sounds like its trying to shift gear while in reverse or drive. Also the air conditioning fan motor has cracked and when turned on sounds like a motorcycle reving it's engine.
The speedometer would get stuck and not display an increase or decrease in speed while driving.or it would display an increase in speed up to 60 mph and then treat 60 as 0.ex. I was going 45 but it read that i was going 95.or sometimes, it would just increase all the way to 120 mph and then stop.turning the vehicle off and then back on did not make a difference.the gauge would still read where it was when the car was turned off.i was never sure of the speed i was going and brought the vehicle into the dealer within a month of the occurrence.the truck was only 10 months old.the vehicle has been at the dealership for 2 months.they are waiting on toyota to create & ship a new speedometer because toyota identified that the speedometers in some of their make/models were faulty.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the charging pad overheated causing the pad's surface to bubble up. The cause of the failure was unknown. The contact was concerned that the failure could present a fire hazard.the contact indicated that the vehicle was equipped with a qi wireless phone charging pad and the rubber pad had overheated causing the surface of the pad to bubble up.the cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer servco toyota (2990 aukele st. Lihue, hi) and the manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 10,000
Every so often i heard a bang coming from the drivetrain while i'm driving and also when i put the truck on reverse the sound it's loud. I don't know it's a transmission problem or the joints with the differential. But it's getting bad. Also i have problems with the charging system and it was brought in and the day there is no problem but for some reason some times lights will come up out of the bue.
I was pulling accross a busy intersection and my truck completey lost power when trying to accelerate. I got a message 'brake and accelerator depressed simultaneously' but they were not. I took it to the dealership and they couldn't figure out what was wrong.
While driving my tacoma at freeway speed, i accidentally hit the gearshift forward into neutral.this caused the engine to shut off, losing power assist to the steering, braking, etc.every warning light on the dash began to flash including low oil pressure, high trans temp, etc.i also recreated this problem at a later time (after i figured out what had happened) and it was the same result--the trucks motor died when shifted into neutral causing a very dangerous situation for an inexperienced driver.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. The contact stated whenhe shifted into reverse to back the vehicle out of his garage it did not move. He then shifted into drive and vehicle still did not move. The contact pressed the accelerator and he heard a clanking noise.when he finally moved forward after shifting into drive. The contact called the dealer .servco toyota kauai toyota 2477 ulu maika st, lihue, hi 96766 (808) 245-6978 and they said they would not look at the engine unless he agreed to pay a diagnostic fee. The contact spoke to the head mechanic and they are aware of the issue. They said the brake system needs a seal to prevent moisture from getting into the system. They would not look at the system unless there was a recall. The manufacturer had not been contacted yet. The vehicle remains unrepaired. The failure mileage was 2,500.
Engine boggs down loses rpm's during driving of vehicle on hwy and streets.
Transmission constant hunting/ shifting.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. While the vehicle was idling, the contact heard an abnormal rattling and ticking noise coming from the engine compartment. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (mike fox toyota inc, 725 s rochester rd, rochester, mi 48307, (248) 656-8195) where it was diagnosed that the brake booster pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 1810010762. The failure mileage was 37,202.
When decelerating at any given time vehicle loses compression at he brake pedals and feels as if though vehicle is thrusting and losing power to engine. And also when slowing down when speed reaches 20 mph, vehicle can be felt almost wanting stall.
2017 toyota tacoma. Consumer writes in regards to defective heat blower. *ldthe consumer was informed that the failure was due to a rodent nest and debris. The engine, transmission, and dashboard had to be removed. Also, the main engine wiring harness needed to be replaced.
Noticing that as i come to a stop at the last second the drivetrain seems to snap out of gear causing a very loud clunkat this point the vehicle seems to free wheel forward unsafely. . the jolt you get can be compared to putting the vehicle into gear at too high of an idol, which will cause premature wear and tear to your drivetrain. Also, the engine seems to surge at idol while in gear and if you aren't ready for it and you are parking behind something, you runthe risk of hitting it.. I have addressed the drivetrain issue with the dealer, but they say they can't get this to happen for them. Very interesting considering there seems to be others with similar issues.
Engine stalls when attempting rapid acceleration when engine rpm is less than 3000.this is a safety issue.i recently attempted rapid acceleration when making a left turn to avoid a collision where an oncoming driver ran a red light.the engine stalled.i have experienced other similar incidents.i have reported this to my toyota service center twice.the first time i was told toyota is aware of the condition, which would be addressed in a software update.the second time i was told my engine was operating within normal specification parameters, and no such software update was forthcoming.it was raining the day i bought this vehicle, so it was not possible to test low end acceleration.i would never have bought this vehicle had i known low end acceleration was so lethargic.on several occasions it has nearly gotten me killed.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. While driving 40 mph, a loud unknown tapping noise was heard from the front passenger side of the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to mac haik toyota (2112 gulf fwy s, lake city, tx 77573, (281) 884-3744) where it was diagnosed, but no failure code was located. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle to the mac haik dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 9,500.
I bought a toyota tacoma thinking i was purchasing a rough tuff truck.it is by far the weakest truck/car i have ever driven.it has no power, cannot pull more than an inflatable raft, down shifts if a butterfly flies in front of the truck.gas mileage is pathetic, my kids 2004 ford ranger has twice the power and can carry and tow three times as much as the toyota.the truck is pathetic!shame on you for selling me such a weak shameful truck.
2017 toyota tacoma, odom at 9250. No aftermarket add-ons: after 28 mile commute in 4x4, parked in driveway, plugged in factory installed block heater (@ 12 deg f), 1 hour later explosion heard (walls of house shook), blew hood off, up and against windshield.multiple explosions heard, front tires & engine compartment on fire, flames 30 feet high, all windows blown out, entire cabin (extended cab) engulfed in flames, intense heat fused doors closed, melted aluminum vin plate & front license plate. All dashboard and steering column reduced to ashes. Dog kennel and all contents of cabin consumed in fire. Canopy on long bed and rear of vehicle intact due to quick arrival of fire department. No injuries only because people and dog had previously left vehicle when arriving at home. Owner had complained to toyota previously about engine smelling hot after all commutes, checked it at dealer previously to determine problem and they found nothing during exam. Vehicle was rescheduled to check for source of hot engine smell, at 10,000 mile checkup/oil change 4 days after fire occurred. No recalls or pending notices known at time of incident. Vehicle had starting problems even during warm weather. In town mpg showed on dashboard at 5-9.5 mpg, hwy at 16-19.5.
Oil filter housing cracked upon removal, was put back on and leaked all oil from engine. Suprised motor did not seize while driving. Terrible design
My 2017 truck was recalled and i am currently driving a rental.they my truck might take up to 8 weeks to fix,its been close to 4 weeks so far.i use my truck for work and am currently losing wages because i don't have the truck.why do i need to make monthly payments for the truck i don't have?the rental is not usable of my work and the defect in truck was not my fault.i don't see why i should pay for something i don't have.i have asked the dealership about this matter and they said to continue payments because i am using a free rental.thank you for your time and look forward to hearing from you soon.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted but was unable to exceed 20 mph while driving. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 17v356000 (engine) however, the vin was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. While the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed the odor of burning oil. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle had an oil leak. The vehicle was repaired. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v285000 (power train). Later, while driving 5 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently and three unspecified warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that an unknown component had disconnected and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered a loaner vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000.
Idle surges . Rpm surge while at park and it surges when about to drive from the parking
My truck makes a loud thud sound when accelerating from a dead stop, slowing down to a dead stop, and slowing down fast from higher speeds from 70-25. This happens multiple times a day. I'm fearingfor my life and am not in financial position to get another car. Please look into this quickly. Thank you

Thanks.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle stopped moving abruptly and came to a rolling stop on the side of the road. The check engine, low oil pressure, and high transmission temperature warning indicators illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle, but it failed to accelerate. The vehicle was towed to toyota of nashua, new hampshire (located on marmon dr, 03060) but the dealer could not diagnose the failure. The contact was given a loaner vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 1,500. The vin was not available.
Heard valves tapping alot of time. Reported and took to toyota. They said no code no work. They gave the line of when this gas hits this part then this one tries to catch up or burn excess fuel. Out of 40 plus years and puchasing many vehicle i never been told that before. I talked to other 2017 owners and they dont have this issue. Also the brakes make metalic clunking noises moving backwars and fowrds when braking. Thier answer was floating valves. And again this issue isnt on other tacomma owners. I tryed three times with valve issues. Same old line no code no work. Maybe pads are worn but still have 70 % left on pads
3.5l v6, limited edition, extended cab, 4x4, automatic, 1200 miles on odometer.driving about 35mph on snow covered road in four wheel drive. Engine not completely warmed up and outside air temperature 9 degrees. Suddenly engine revved up without any pressure on accelerator and vehicle went into a sideways slide into the oncoming lane. Revving lasted about 2 seconds and then came back to normal rpm's. I got vehicle back in control but the unexpected acceleration was an eye opener and i was very fortunate there were no oncoming vehicles. Vehicle will also hesitate when cold while shifting from reverse to drive and vice versa. It tends to lunge in either direction depending on which gear it is in and having your foot firmly on the brake is the only way to stop it from taking off on you once it decides to go into gear. Have read multiple related issues involving 2016 tacoma with no toyota fix yet
2017 toyota tacoma 2gr-fks (v6) motor failure at 110,000 miles.cylinder #5 & 6 misfire codes thrown after nominal driving conditions on the interstate.after stopping at a gas station, i attempted to restart the truck.truck would not idle and was not drive-able.the motor had new spark plugs and a new crankshaft position sensor.truck was towed to a toyota dealership, who diagnosed the problem as being zero compression on cylinder #5 & 6.new motor needed :(
The third brake lighting leaks water when raining/carwash this can generate a short circuit.
The high mount rear stop lamp leaks water into the cab. The water channels in through a cheap gasket, down the inside of the frame, destroying the cushions and plastic through moisture and mildew. Leaking around 3rd brake light (rear of cab) began in spring 2020.unfortunately, this is now out of the 36k warranty.dealer refuses to repair due to my truck being at 53,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the third brake light gasket failed. The contact stated that the brake light gasket was not sealed correctly causing water to enter the cabin of the vehicle. The contact stated that the rear seats also showed evidence of mold. The vehicle was taken to toyota of bellingham (1100 iowa street, bellingham, washington, 98229, (360)-676 0600) to be inspected. The contact was informed that the brake light gasket and the interior carpet and seats needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000.
I had to have a leaking third brake light assembly replaced for water pouring into the cab.the total cost for repairs were 496.00.my truck has only 40,000 miles and it has been leaking for a long time from the previous owner.it would have been replaced by toyota if under 36,000 miles.there is multiple complaints on the website and a toyota service bulletin involved with this repair.i think a recall should be introduced and a refund issued.i had the local toyota dealer fix the leak with genuine parts.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v682000 (fuel system, gasoline). Arlington toyota (10939 atlantic blvd, jacksonville, fl 32225, (904) 302-9611) was contacted and it was confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
After smelling gas in the cabin of the truck for several months, with no apparent problems with vehicle handling and performance, the truck was taken in for it's regular service. Fuel lines going into the engine on the driver's side were leaking at a coupling just before the injectors. The first half inch of the hose before the coupling was delaminated due to fuel being forced between the sheathing and the hose. Toyota service center had not seen this issue before and did not know what would have caused it.

I don't know it's a transmission problem or the joints with the differential. But it's getting bad. I was driving and suddenly my 2017 tacoma suddenly shut off in the middle of the street while in motion. It has never had any electrical problems but now the fuel pump is not working. I have read 2018/2019 tacomas have the same problem. Now the truck will not start.
Vehicle looses tracktion when making turns on a curve. Happens frequently and tires are still within lifecycle. The tires currently are from original purchase of new tacoma. Also, the recall for problem with fuel propulsion system has been ongoing and no remedy has been made available. This is putting my family at risk.
Vehicle constantly cuts outunder acceleration like throttle does not communicate with engine. Drives like an old car with a clogged fuel filter or a distributor with no advance.
The tach shows the engine is bouncing all over the place which is especially evident when idling, but also noticible while in motion. I believe my truck should have the fuel pump replaced. The engine rpms jump all over when driving, when backing up or just rolling without pressure on the gas pedal, the truck jumps & drops in speed. This has been happening for some time now. We have tried adding detergents & using better quality gas but it doesn't seem to help.
Driving at 30 mph when vehicles engine tried to stall , pumpingthe accelerator i keep vehicle moving but ran very poorly got it home and called dealership to get appointment. This a very dangerous for if was in a intersection there could have been a accident
The vehicle stalls at times, at other times the vehicle launches in both reverse and forward, at times while driving parkway vehicle hesitates. At times vehicle stationary and with foot on brake and vehicle put in drive the truck launches forward, same with reverse. This has been ongoing for months.now the malfunction light is on. I understand there is a recall and i have contacted toyota and they are not willing to do anything and told me that i would be charged a diagnostic fee. I bought the truck in march 2020 with a little over 14,000 miles on the truck the problem began in september 2020
Certain toyota's have been recalled for a fuel pump issue and i would like to addmine to that list because it sometimes hesitates from a stop position to a go position. I've been told the recall has been to the cars at high speeds, well mine is different, but dangerous because it will allow you to pull out into traffic, but will die and pumping the accelerator is nessecaryto get into flow of traffic or to avoid being hit in crossing an intersection. This has happened about six or seven times in the past year. Please add my truck into this category.thanks
My tacoma has 17000 miles on it. Here lately i've been hearing a chirping noise coming from the engine bay. It doesn't start right away so i know it's not a pulley or a belt. I don't drive the truck hard because let's face it, it's powertrain isn't the greatest and shifts like a kid learning to drive a stick. Im sure the chirping noise is the high pressure fuel pump in the engine bay. For awhile thought it was normal until another tacoma pulled up and it wasn't doing the same noise at alleven asked the guy if his a/c was on to make sure we had the same setting. His was also a 2017 off road tacoma
Idle surges . Rpm surge while at park and it surges when about to drive from the parking
Truck hesitatesor loses power and triangle appears on dash for an instant while driving on street or highway . Only happens now and then. Reported it to dealership and they put it on a computer but couldn't find the problem. This was done before the warranty expired so they would have a record of the issue. Vehicle was in motion.
Fuel leaking from the connections for the high pressure direct injection system. Fuel was leaking down the back of the engine and onto the transmission bellhousing near the exhaust. I could smell faint odor of gas in the cabin while driving. Used uv dye to identify the source of the leak. Unknown how long this was occurring for, i have been smelling gas in the engine bay for weeks, toyota dealer told me the smell was 'normal' during my last service several weeks ago.
Fuel pumpmakes loud chirping noise since 10000 miles i told dealer they told me normal i want it fixed . I want a differant fuel pump i paid a lot of money for this vehicle and it makes annoying noise
The leak detection pump sub-assembly, charcoal canister (part # 90910-af006) located above the rear axle will start "pumping" very loudly even after the vehicle has not been driven in excess of 8 hours. Continues for approx 10 minutes, then shuts off. I went to my dealership and asked why this is happening and i was told that "it seems unusual" and then asked me if i pump gas "beyond the normal click to stop" - i said "no", and that i hadn't gassed up in over a week. So he said to just keep "an eye on it". Difficult to determine just how often this is happening since clearly i'm not going to be in the garage at the time this may be occurring. Having said that, a week later the same thing happened. I'm afraid that there's some sort of electrical issue at play here, but i get the feeling that the dealership won't do anything because of the sporadic nature of this.
Driveline vibration under deceleration around 0-30 mph
My truck makes a loud thud sound when accelerating from a dead stop, slowing down to a dead stop, and slowing down fast from higher speeds from 70-25. This happens multiple times a day. I'm fearingfor my life and am not in financial position to get another car. Please look into this quickly. Thank you
Transmission fails to start off in 1st gear especially when under a load such as a/c on during a hot day. Also constantly shifting from 6th to 4th then holding 4th for a short duration then shifting to 5th and immediate back to 6th then starts the process over again. I have verified this is the case with even new 2018 models the dealer and toyota state this is normal operation. The issue is we never know when it is going to occur. We can drive from light to light and sometimes it leaves in first from a complete stop and other times it does not. This is dangerous when making unprotected turns in front of traffic. The most recent occurrence i was making a left turn in front of traffic and the vehicle refused to accelerate at the normal rate with the throttle near the floor it eventually grabbed first gear and began to accelerate normally just in time to avoid a collision. As stated this issue is more apparent in the summer heat of las vegas nv. Fellow consumers suggest that i invest in a 3rd party "tune" that resolves this erratic shifting behavior but the cost is nearly $800 and i don't want to void my manufacturer warranty by applying a 3rd party software repair but this is described by fellow owners as "the only fix". The issue is well documented in toyota owners forums as well as other social media platforms but toyota has their head in the sand after release of their 2nd revision to the shifting program over a year ago. Also, it should be mentioned that due to this constant erratic shifting (cruise control emphasizes the issue) we have never achieved anything close to the advertised mpg either we average 14 city 20 hwy 16-17mpg combined. 20 hwy mpg is achieved without cruise control, when using cruise control that hwy mpg drops to 18.
It doesn't track straight at 45+mph , under powered, cruise is lost shifts erratican. 16-18mpg running 91oct....etc
My truck stalled while driving. I looked up what could of caused this and find out i may have a crank position sensor that's malfunctioning causing my truck to stall.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. While attempting to stop the vehicle, it began to jerk. The vehicle was taken to tustin toyota (36 auto center dr, tustin, ca 92782, (714) 602-5311) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed a software update. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed oil. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer a third time where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 10,110.
The transmission does not engage on take off initially, it also jumps as you are slowing down ,coming to a stop at a stop light. It has been in 4 times for this same issue. Toyota knows there is a problem, and they acknowledge it, but does not have a fix for it. What happens when my warranty is expired. It is definitely getting worse. The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. While the vehicle was in the drive position, the vehicle drove in reverse and a tracking noise was heard underneath the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to merced toyota (1400 auto center dr, merced, ca 95340, phone number: (844) 553-4296) where it was diagnosed, but the technician could not find a failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 13,000.
I was making left turn crossing traffic rolling almost to a stop ,pressed on gas and truck did not move and paused about 2 seconds and took off across intersectionand oncoming truck had to brake hard to avoidhitting me.i contacted dealer and test drove with tech. Could not duplicate incident and told otherlike problems reported to dealer ,ran tests and reported no problem found. Also reported to themturning left up steep driveway truck transmissionshifts and lunges forward and accelerates
Transmission does this on a random basis it is too quick to upshift causing the engine to bog down. -transmission causes the tuck to lurch forward at low speeds. -shifting from r to d on a hill can sometimes cause the truck to roll back as if the truck was in neutral -in general, the transmission is inconsistent in operation. In the same situation, it may react differently -during hard acceleration after you let up on the gas, the engine rpm's will stay high and slowly come back down. If you press the gas again during this time the transmission will either cause the engine to rev but the truck won't accelerate or will slam into a gear causing the truck to lurch. It also does this randomly the transmission being slow to downshift to a lower gear when trying to accelerate or it would upshift to a higher gear while accelerating/merging resulting in an unexpected change in acceleration.the vehicle will also "noticeably" down shift while the foot is off the accelerator resulting in an unexpected change in deceleration. The problem seems to be getting worse and now the shifting is starting to jolt the vehicle. While driving at constant speeds the vehicle will randomly surge high in rpms then come right back down. The vehicle is presenting unsafe conditions. Took the vehicle to the dealer multiple times. 1st time they topped off the transmission fluid as it was low from the factory. 2nd time they are aware of the issue and others were having it as well and the transmission ecu was re-flashed. This still did not resolve the problem. Brought the vehicle back a 3rd time and they didn't see a problem with the vehicle. Vehicle currently has less than 2500 miles on it. Not sure why you would design a vehicle to do this. I have taken my truck in for this problem and toyota of orange says the transmission is working the way it was designed to do...
On one of my services i mentioned that i feel that the standard transmission was not shifting into 2nd gear very easy. Because it's new to me and it also has some kind of anti roll i thought maybe just wasn't working the pedal far enough or just missing it but it didn't seem smooth. My other concern was about shifting or thy lack of engaging in four week drive. Toyota agreed that there was a problem. They replaced the transmission and said here you go. Unfortunately the same problems are still occurring. My truck has been at maui toyota for months now. They are now saying that they replaced the transmission and they agree that it's no better but tha it's in running condition. I have been told to all service honolulu where i have been basically left blind. I understand that there is a critical situation going on so i figured that has part to do with not getting any updates. Yesterday maui toyota calls and informed me that they will have my truck towed on tuesday. Very unprofessional and horrible customer service to say the least.i don't want a new transmission that acts like one they said was not right. I want a proper functioning vehicle that will last that's why this is my fourth toyota truck.

Transmission when in cold weather. Has a very slightthumpwhen coming to a stop as if the transmission is not shifting down smoothly in gears. You sometimes hear and feelthis thumb when driving around city streets . Not as much as when the weather is cold or at startup.
I have been having several intermittent issue with the automatic transmission on my 2017 tacoma trd off road with 43000 miles. Among them are as follows: it fails to shift correctly (hunting for gears) on the highway and hesitates to accelerate when needed, also the transmission sometimes has a delayed engagement when putting it into reverse or drive from a standstill. The engine will rev up like it was in neutral then abruptly catch the reverse gear causing a loud and disturbing ā€bangā€¯ and even some tire spin on the pavement. I also intermittently experience a loud ā€clunkā€¯ when slowing down to a stop in traffic as if the transmission is not downshifting properly from the higher gears to the lower ones and is forced to come to an abrupt halt. The dealer has performed a software update but this has not helped. The dealer also cannot replicate these problems because the issues are intermittent. I understand that a lot of 3ā€™rd generation tacoma owners are experiencing the same exact issues but it seems that toyota is not issuing a recall for some reason. I believe this is a potential safety hazard and should be addressed.
The truck shifts into too high of a gear when attempting to accelerate between 20-30 mph., causing engine to rev up to and beyond redline (5500rpm to 6000rpm), which is extremely damaging to a new engine.this results in a 3 or more second delay or stall while the transmission finds an appropriate gear for the current speed. Most of the time, when it finally does find a gear, it is often too low, resulting in extreme engine revving followed by complete loss of power.this delay or stall almost left me in a serious accident as i pulled out into the intersection (under normal circumstances), the cross traffic did not yield to the red light. I had to accelerate quickly from about 20 mph, meanwhile, the truck's transmission stalled and would not respond. I narrowly avoided being hit. I have taken the truck in no less than four times in the last 12 months to report the same complaint i have documentation but continue to be told that the transmission is performing at manufactured specifications. Not sure what those specs are but nothing has been done to address the transmission issuethe truck is unstable when driving with heavy load in the bed (never exceeding 1000lbs.).when loaded with 10- 90lb. Bags of concrete (900lbs.), the truck feels extremely unstable. I won't drive it on the freeway under such weight.the manufacturer stated weight limit iston (1000lbs.) and yet when filled with only 900lbs of concrete the leaf springs arch, fully inverted upside down, leaving the truck highly unstable and unresponsive.of all three of the toyota trucks that i have owned, including the 4 runner, i have never seen this occur in the leaf springs nor had stability problems carrying this type of weight. I don't feel comfortable driving this vehicle due to transmission and weight concerns, and feel it is not only a safety hazard to myself as well as others.
When driving at highway speeds and you come to an abrupt slowdown torolling the truck will shudder, clunk into gear and then when about to stop will lunge forward at times.this has happened 3 times where the abs actuates due to the lunge from the transmission shift and almost caused me to rear end the vehicle infront.in the toyota tacoma forums there are many whom experience the same issue but toyota seems to not resolve it.
Transmission does not engage (slips) in first gear from a cold start up.i am concerned this defect may cause an unsafe situation in the future.
Brought car in for a 15k mile check up and recall check on 08/04/2017. The service manager told me that there was in fact a leak and they would need to keep the car for a few days to repair. The parts were ordered and will be there in a couple days. 1 week later i was able to get a loaner car. Now it has been over 30 days and they have not fixed the truck.superstition toyota located on e. Auto loop ave, mesa, az
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. The contact stated the vehicle was taken to toyota of tampa bay located at 1101 e fletcher ave, tampa, fl 33612 (813) 402-1307, for a recall inspection seen on the news in may of 2017. The contact stated while at the dealer he was informed that the bolts on the differential were fractured and the vehicle was unsafe to be driven. The contact stated the dealer provided him with a loaner vehicle. The contact mentioned that he received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v285000 (power train) several days after leaving the vehicle at the dealer however, the parts to do the recall repair were unavailable. The contact stated that manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact called the dealer several times and was informed that parts were not available for the recall remedy repairs. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that parts were available and the local dealer would need to order the parts. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine with gray smoke coming from the exhaust tips. The contact attempted to accelerate however, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact pulled off the roadway and the vehicle started shaking. The contact immediately turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to his residence. An independent mechanic inspected the vehicle at the residence and informed him that a section of the transmission transfer case was missing. The contact had the vehicle towed to rochester toyota (48 farmington rd, rochester, nh 03867) where he was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
I pulled up to park the truck. After put in park the 2017 toyota tacoma lunged forward. This caused the vehicle to hit a brick wall. There was almost $5950.00 in damage to the truck and the airbags did not go off. I watched myself crash into the wall and could not stop the truck.
The transmission is unable able to locate the correct gear.

Buzzy vibration in accelerator pedal is noticeable, from 25mpg to 75mph.it seems, as vibration is related to the automatic transmission.i currently, have a 2017 toyota tacoma, off road trim, 4x4 short-bed, automatic.

6 speed automatic transmission is always on a higher gear.often lugs the truck around and can be hazardous when turning left or right from rolling as the truck often stays at a higher gear and will either lug the vehicle or jerk/rough downshift.when sudden acceleration is needed, truck will lag or jerk. Has the potential to cause or be involved in accidents due to transmission mapping.
Transmission has jerky shifting and low at fluid. Purchased 4x2 automatic on feb 2017 with 20 miles on it. Within 2 days of driving it i felt the hard jerks of the transmission at the start of the day. Once it runs for more than 7 minutes the hard shifting of gears stops. I called service dept at the dealer they told me it is the adaptive transmission learning, not to worry it is normal and it will stop after 600 miles. I also noticed it is very stiff shifting from p to r and d in mornings only. At 650miles the hard shifting continued.i went to dealer and after a cursory inspection and 5 minute drive tech told me nothing is wrong. I asked him to check the atf level because many people wrote online about low atf levels causing the problems. Tech said they do not send out vehicles without proper levels of fluids and it could not be. I asked manager to make someone check. They of course would not let me watch them in the service bay when they took it back but later insisted they did check my atf and it was full.it is now at 827 miles and i am going to a different dealer to have them check for me but i am worried the longer i drive it with low atf it will damage the transmission worse.
When vehicle cold and going coastingdown hill (15 mph at most) the transmission lags before it engages. Rpm's rev up. But vehicle does not respond. Press break and then responds. Not first time this has happened...also happened coasting up hill to stop sign.
At 1,200 miles i am noticing a howling noise in the interior (although sounds like transmission) as transmission changes gears at highway speeds of 55-65 mph.
Driving home from the dealership, i noticed a hesitation or jerking upon acceleration. I returned the next week and was advised there was a bulletin, t-sb-0077-16 and the software was reloaded or updated and the problem was fixed. When i left, it appeared to be fixed for the first 5 miles, then the problem returned and is getting worse. I contacted toyota, complaint 170206-000100. I received a return email the same day and subsequent phone call several days later. I was advised i would be contacted within a week for resolution or plan of action. That week has come and gone. Meanwhile, the truck continually gets worse. Twice, i have accelerated from stop and the truck seems to shift in neutral and i had to let off the pedal for it to accelerate again. One of those times, i was almost rear ended.it is worse when driving in the city. The truck begins jerking and it is difficult to get it to accelerate. I feel it is very unsafe to drive, but right now i don't have much choice. I almost feel like i need a tow truck, ambulance, and attorney to follow me everywhere. I hope this will at least bring awareness to an unsafe issue and others will be spared the potential results.
The transmission in this truck shifts erratically. The first second shift alternates between extremely slow and harsh enough to make the truck buck and shake. Because of this shift issue power applied at low speeds is inconsistent.the transmission searches for gear at highway speeds and downshifts excessively. The transmission issues started at approximately 2000 miles on the vehicle and are ongoing. The issues occur at speeds from 2mph through 75mph these issues make the vehicle unpredictable and more difficult to control.additonaly the u bolts holding the axle onto the vehicle were not torqued properly from the factory. The bolts were torqued to approximalty 30 ftlbs, not the 52 ftlbs toyota specifies, which caused axle wrap issues and made the transmission issues listed above worse.
Idle surges . Rpm surge while at park and it surges when about to drive from the parking
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. While stopped, with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle surged forward. The vehicle was previously taken to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the tcm and ecm needed to be updated. The ecm and tcm were updated. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired per tsb number: 0077-16. Prior to the tsb repair, the contact had not experienced a failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 3,756.
The vehicle surges when backing up in reverse and when taking foot off brake pedal in drive.
Vehicle was in motion trying to accelerate from a slow speed to a higher speed entering a high speed road. The truck failed to accelerate and would not go over 20 miles an hour.i had to swerve off the road to avoid an accident. The truck was towed to toyota since its under warranty. It was diagnosed and was told i have one of several trucks out there that have this computer issue the causes this. I was told they do not have a fix for this but they could get it operating correctly but its still not fixed and may happen again. I mentioned i almost got into a car accident and i don't feel safe driving it until it is fixed. Toyota said they have to release the car to me since its operating correctly now even though the problem isn't fixed. I learned from them they have more trucks with the same problem and they are working on a solution but don't have one yet. They offer no other solution or resolution at this time. I don't feel this is right since to me its more of a life safety issue. I feel they should keep the truck until its fixed and loan me a replacement, or they should replace my truck with one that doesn't have this software problem. I am shocked they will release a vehicle back while stating they know this dangerous problem may occur again. I have a case number of 1711171145 with toyota headquarters and i was working with pam. I was also working the matt at desert toyota who received all of this information from toyota.
I started having problems with the vehicle shifting from 4th or 5th gear when attempting to reach highway speeds which in this area is 70 mph. The truck would stick and the rpms would go above 3000 rpm. I had toyota of midland look at this on 03/07/19. In april i contacted toyota corporate and told them of the problem and they assigned case #1904152129 and sent a corporate representative here on 04/24/19. The corporate rep, along with a local technician, hooked up a computer and rode with me and witnessed the shifting problem. The corporate rep. Said that this wasn't any fault of the vehicle and the local techinician said that his 2017 tacoma was doing the same thing.on 01/22/2020 i brought my tacoma in for it's 30k maintance and told the sevice writer about this issue again. The service writer said that he had experienced the same thing when he owned a 2017 & 2019 tacoma, and remeded the problem when he traded for a 2020 tacoma.. This is my families 5th toyota vehicle; it will be my last toyota.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the six speed auto transmission failed to downshift properly. In addition, the transmission was slow to change over, there was an abnormal noise, and the vehicle lunged forward, which presented the risk of a potential crash. The failures occurred intermittently. Recently, while the vehicle was at a stop with the brake pedal depressed, it lunged forward while a passerby was walking in front of the vehicle. Capitol toyota (765 capitol expressway auto mall, san jose, ca 95136, (408) 705-4707) was notified of the failure for more than two years and indicated that a software update may remedy the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified several times. The approximate failure mileage was 15.
Rear differential seeping and leaking after second repair and still not fixed. Also seeping from fill bolt rear differential, carrier gasket, and bottom stud and carrier bolt. It also pops when starting sometimes.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. While driving approximately 30-40 mph, the transmission malfunctioned and caused the gears to fluctuate between third and fourth gears. When ascending up a hill, the transmission would fail to switch to the proper gear, causing the rpms to increase and the engine to continuously rev. Also, while in first and second gears, a loud abnormal noise was heard coming from the transmission. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (jones junction toyota, 1504 bel air rd, bel air, md) where the electronic control unit was reprogrammed (reflashed), but the failure continued to occur. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no remedy. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 5,000.
Transmission slips when cold. Delay in shifting from reverse to drive when cold. Transmission upshifts too quickly at very low speeds.
H0g / 17v285 recall. Rear differential leak. 66 days waiting on remedy with no definite end in sight. Not one person in the world of toyota can or will give an answer.
Tacoma rear differential leak - my 2017 toyota tacoma is leaking fluid from my rear differential. Currently there is toyota recall on 2016 and some 2017 toyota tacoma models.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. While driving 55 mph, the contact heard an abnormal whining sound without warning. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (fred anderson toyota located at 777 brevard rd asheville, n.c 28806) where it was diagnosed that the rear differential failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was approximately 1,200.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v285000 (power train); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to autonation toyota mall of georgia (3505 buford dr ne, buford, ga 30519, (770) 674-6083) where it was confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The contact was provided a loaner vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
On uphill 1 or 2% grade, the transmission shift and hold onto lower gear when climbing uphill then will not up shift when gas pedal is released.transmission can't decide what gear to go to or stay in..consuming un necessary fuel and possible spun.and also automatically engage engine brake when traveling stiff down hill.
Received a safety recall involving leakage from the rear differential, nhtsa recall no. 17v-285.took to peterson toyota, boise, id, on 6/28/2017, and was told that i should turn the vehicle in.however, they offered to provide only a replacement car, not a truck, which would not be of any use to me.they also refused to tell me how long it would take to get parts, possibly months.i called the toyota corp customer service number on that day (1-888-270-9371), and was told a dealer customer service rep would contact me nlt 6/30.no one called, and i called toyota again on 7/1, and was told that both a peterson and a regional customer service rep would contact me nlt 7/3.no one called.i again called toyota on 7/6, and was told that i would receive a call from customer service nlt 7/7. Again, no one called.peterson toyota of boise and toyota corp are refusing to answer my questions concerning this safety recall.the customer service rep at the 888 number has apologized numerous times and says she can not understand why i have not been contacted by a peterson and a regional customer service manager.
Front seat head rest will not stay in position - keep moving up by itself.
Noticed a weird rotational noise from the day i bought the truck. Took it into prestige toyota dealer for it's first oil change and asked if they could check out the noise. Diagnosed as the rear differential even though it wasnt leaking. Two weeks later they are telling me it's going to take a month or more to get the part. I am in a loaner car and can't seem to get a solid answer on whats going on with these rear diffs. I don't even want the truck at this point since they can't even fix it.
Rear differential leak. Received safety recall h0g from toyota. Made appointment and took truck to toyota of el cajon, mileage was 15,002. Was advised there was seepage and impounded truck and provided me a loaner vehicle. I have not been able to secure any firm answers on when the truck will be repaired other than the parts are not available. This is day 21 in the shop, reports of others over 60+ days. I have a loan on the vehicle that i have continue to pay though i do not have a truck to drive. This is very frustrating as i believe was sold me a vehicle in september 2016 knowing there was issues with the model year. My truck is not under op code h0g316, so my parts are under the normal ordering process. Toyota corporate customer service simply provides lip service only and no details on the potential release of repair kits.
The current recall affecting 2016/2017 toyota tacoma rear end differentials does not include the off road models. My differential is leaking as well as many others as evidenced by toyota tacoma forums. Why is this? we are at the same risk of potential catastrophic failed as the non offroads models.
Rear differential noise effecting all 2016 and 2017 tacoma trucks.toyota has already replaced differential, this made no improvement ,the noise is the same.toyota fst sad they are aware of the issue and working on a correction.i just hope this is fixed before the rear end locks up on someone tacoma and causes an accident.
The vehicle differential started to howl and whine at 800 miles and has steadily increased in severity as i put more miles on it. This is indicative of a bearing failing inside the differential. Toyota has brushed this off. They have not physically inspected the differential or even checked the fluids and provided no answer to what is going on with this vehicle.what is keeping my vehicle from not seizing up on the freeway and causing an accident if the differential grenades while at highway speeds?
While entering the freeway, pressing the accelerator to merge, the truck stumbled as if lost all power for a full 4 to 5 seconds causing me to miss my chance to merge and pull over to the shoulder and wait for a clearing. It has done this several times but not this bad and this time i had my kids in the truck. There is a technical bulletin for this but my dealership will not perform it if they can't duplicate it.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. The contact received an unknown recall notification regarding the rear differential. The vehicle was taken to toyota of orange (1400 n tustin st, orange, ca 92867, (714) 639-6750) where an inspection of the recall was completed. The contact stated that the rear differential was leaking oil. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear differential was leaking oil and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered the contact fifty percent off towards the repair fee. A case number was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. *dt the consumer stated toyota didnt fix the issue.
I was driving home from work with my boyfriend when he moved in the seat and the seatbelt and airbag lights on my dash came on and now they won't turn off.
Front seat head rest will not stay in position - keep moving up by itself.
The seat heater amp and harness that went to it tried to catch on fire and shorted out which ended up melting both parts
The vehicle emits a tapping sound while idling, the noise increases with acceleration. We took it to the dealership and they told us it was the vacuum pump and was no longer under warranty. I did a google search for vacuum pump, 2017 tacoma and the first thing that popped up was a recall for the vacuum pump on some 2017 tacomas but not mine specifically.there has not been an accident but i see that the vacuum pump has is connected to the braking system. Strange coincidence.
Brake override malfunction error caused the vehicle to suddenly come to a stop in the middle of the road. This safety function is dangerous as it causes the vehicle to both fail to operate or allow for any kind of control vehicle was in motion moving at about 35 mph in winter weather conditions. This seems to be a consistent problem with 2016- 2018 toyota truck models for what was found online after having the problem.
Freeway traffic was slowing.edge of sole of shoe caught under brake pedal when trying to stop on when the vehicle in front of me suddenly and unnecessarily stopped completely.the delay in braking would have resulted in a crash into rear of car in front had i not swerved into median when finally able to start braking.sole of my athletic shoe flares out a little which may be part of the problem.seat was as far back as it goes.perhaps distance to pedals is too short.otherwise, brake pedal is one-half inch higher than accelerator.
When vehicle was turning left from a two lane state road onto a downhill country lane the vehicle brakes failed and the brake pedal was depressed to the floor. The vehicle responded to application of the hand brake. Subsequently, the vehicle brakes did seem to work somewhat when rapidly "pumping" the brakes to provide stopping ability. The vehicle was then slowly driven to the closest toyota dealership (bill kidd's toyota, cockeysville md).part that may have become inoperable: braking assist/master cylinder
Left rear tire locked up. Possible defective wheel cylinder
12/9/17 there was a small amount of snow on my driveway.my driveway is slightly on an incline and then levels off at the topi put my vehicle into 4 wheel drive and proceededup the driveway with no problem.i deactivated the 4 wheel drive and placed my vehicle in park w/o using the e brake.i never use the brake with this vehicle or my prior vehicle a tundra. Two and a half hours later my daughter informs me that she heard a loud bang and observed my vehicle had rolled down the drive way striking a tree.when i went to investigate i observed that my vehicle gear shift was in park.also there were tire tread marks on the grass and not skid marks. Question is why being parked for over two hours this occurred.
When decelerating at any given time vehicle loses compression at he brake pedals and feels as if though vehicle is thrusting and losing power to engine. And also when slowing down when speed reaches 20 mph, vehicle can be felt almost wanting stall.
2017 toyota tacoma 44 off road with crawl control.when holding the brake pedal down at a stop truck will not hold braking after 30 secounds.the vehicle will start moving and the brake pedal will go all the way to the floor .
Rear brakes locking up. I drove the truck a couple mile and we had a lot of rain and when i parked the car i set the emergency brake as always since it is a stick shift/ manual transmission. I went to go to the store the next day and the truck would not move since the rear left wheel was locked up. I called toyota road side assistance and this was memorial day weekend and they wouldn't come to get the car because the dealer was closed and someone had to sign for the car. I was fortunately home at the time but did have to go to work on tuesday and that would be when they came. I did some research on the internet and found out that i am not the only one with this issue. This is not called an emergency brake for no reason!!! what would happen if i had to use it in a driving emergency and needed to release the brake and it did not release???? this car has 13400 miles on it and this is a serious issue if you ask me! i was lucky enough to figure out how to repair it myself with enough searching the internet and reading everyone else's complaints and freed the drum up to move the car so i can get to work but toyota needs to step up to the plate again and correct the issue for everyone's vehicle including mine because i will not be doing this again while this car is still under warranty and has a long history of this. I wish i had known of this before i bought the vehicle!!!

I took my toyota (which is a manual transmission) through a car wash parked it at home directly after. Went to drive it 24 hours later and the emergency brake would not disengage. I had to have it towed to dealership. This had happened at least twice that i was able to unlock the brake myself by manual rocking of the vehicle through the use of 1st gear and reverse. I just had my vehicle towed for the second time after attempting to unlock it without dealership help. It unlocked somewhat via the method i have used before.it is now driving like the brake is still trying to engage even though the handbrake is not engaged.
I pulled up to park the truck. After put in park the 2017 toyota tacoma lunged forward. This caused the vehicle to hit a brick wall. There was almost $5950.00 in damage to the truck and the airbags did not go off. I watched myself crash into the wall and could not stop the truck.
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. While driving 5 mph and attempting to make a right turn out of the driveway, one of the rear wheels seized without warning. The contact attempted to place the vehicle in park and then back into drive, which failed to release the brakes. Stevinson toyota west (780 denver west colorado mills blvd, lakewood, co (720) 259-2544) was contacted and scheduled an appointment to have the vehicle diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 62,000.consumer was told to not use the emergency brake at temperatures of 35 degrees or colder due to the rear brake shoes getting stuck to the rear drums. *dl
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the steering wheel failed to retract no matter how the steering wheel was turned. The vehicle was taken to toyota of escondido (231 lincoln parkway, escondido, ca 92026) where the technician checked the alignment. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 650.
It doesn't track straight at 45+mph , under powered, cruise is lost shifts erratican. 16-18mpg running 91oct....etc
The contact owns a 2017 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that there was an abnormal howling noise in the cabin of the vehicle. The failure occurred without warning. Anderson weber toyota lincoln (3450 center grove dr, dubuque, ia) confirmed the howling noise in the cabin. The manufacturer was notified and sent a representative who also confirmed the noise. The manufacturer stated that it was due to a design flaw and no corrective action would be taken. The failure mileage was approximately 3,500.
Water leak into the rear of the cab. Toyota knows is a known issue but they decline warranty on it. They only have a t-sb-0055-18 but if the customer doesnt research for it online they will not even tell the customer. The water leak cause mold in the car and everything is wet on it.our car has now 38000 miles. This is an expensive car and the mold will cause people to get sick.toyota wants a customer to pay more than $10,000 to fix an issue that is cause by them.please help about this.
Oxidation on the upper part of the front glass, being such a modern vehicle and having such problems in the bodywork.i went to my toyota dealership to claim what happened and they told me that this was not a fault that it must have been some kind of fault, but if we search the entire roof of my vehicle we find many pints of oxidation that are not worked on, they can turn into the same thing that is coming outnow.
3rd roof brake light leaking water into the cab of the truck. Seal is no longer water tight.caused mold issues into the headliner.
Purchased vehicle new in april 2017.december 2017 noticedroof paint cracking.i contacted toyota january. Notified them of the problem when serviced. Contact xylon for inspection. Toyotas service department not willing to help. I called the xylon inspector.he inspected 4 trucks like mine. Trucks are losing paint. Its not xylon. Toyota has a 3 year warrantee on paint.notified windward service dept. It took more than a month to contact me back.toyota csd dept and for several months was not unable to come to a solution. Toyota refused to help.windward service deptassit. Manager notified me. They would paint parts of the vehicle with lose of paint. Take back the truck and give me a new one.the hood, side doors had no paintand spotson windows due to run off.gm doesn't want to talkpoor visibility at night and paint from the truck wash away. Toyotapainted the truck plus give me money back and extend my service on the truck as well as fix anything on the truck that the paint ruined and get rid of the spots on the windows in order for me to drive it.turned in truck due to poor visibility in widows. Its dangerous to drive. Toyota painted truck, changed someparts that was damaged by the paint.refused to fix the windshield and all other surfaces that have white spots on them as well as other parts of the truck that is damages. Toyota still has the vehicle and now the new paint is coming off as well. They sent me a certified letter stating they no longer fix the vehicle and they have given me enough. The service manager at windward stated they have spent too much money and i have to return their loaner. I can't take this truck due to the poor visibility new paint coming off and toyota not completing the fixing of the truck. Toyota is painting the trucks poorly and not fixing the problems.toyota has truck 2 months. Refuses to fix problem. Recal the truck
The sunroof spontaneously shattered while driving on the freeway.i was driving straight at approximately 65 mph on a smooth surface.the outside temperature was approximately 75 and sunny.the sunroof shattered outward and no glass or rock was found inside the vehicle.additionally the glass break was convex outward not concave inward toward the vehicle.
Takata inflatorsi was struck on my front left side . Every panal on the drivers side ws impacte side was impacted. I was traveling bout 40mph.i spun around and ended back innone of the air bags deployed a dranage ditch.i was driving in a state highway
Water came in through the back of the cab from the outside cab light i noticed it while going through a touchless drive through car wash.the water soaked through on the headliner and seat leaving a water stain and possible mold. I took the car in to a toyota dealership and it was confirmed that the water was coming through the cab light on the outside of the truck. This problem was posted on toyota's bulletin by other 2017 tacoma owners.
Leaking around 3rd brake light (rear of cab) began in spring 2020.unfortunately, this is now out of the 36k warranty.dealer refuses to repair due to my truck being at 53,000 miles.
While driving on freeway at 65 mph a sudden very loud noise was heard, initially thought it was a tire, but after verifying that the trucks stability was not lost (in just a couple seconds) then started feeling air coming from the top. Opened up the sun/moon roof cover and pieces of the glass fell.was not driving behind a truck, nor in construction zone nor under any type of bridge or by-pass. The freeway didn't have any big bumps, nor dips. Only two other vehicles were around, one on each side but a bit behind me, since my vehicle was in the middle lane of a 3-lane freeway.
Transmission constant hunting/ shifting.
Two major issues on my truck:1) the front driver side suspension has been squeaking whether the vehicle is in motion or not. 2) the radio unit reboots itself randomly and multiple times during a short drive rendering the backup camera useless.
Vehicle has a vibration on decelaration between 20 to 0 mph without foot on the brake and vehicle out of gear on manual transmission. Vehicle is always on a street going straight and happens at every decelaration.
Windshield is prone to cracking. Within the last 2 months i have had to replace windshield twice due to small object hitting windshield while driving. I've had the vehicle for less than 8 months and has 24k miles on it. Both incidents happened while driving on i69 highway.

The blower motor fan for the a/c broke. Less than 30,000 miles. Also, the battery boiled over and corrosion was identified by the dealer.
Takata recall. Received a notice of recall for the air bags and chassis haven't had any issues mention chassis recall at the dealer over a month ago and i was told that they will call me. Again haven't had any issues but i am concern that something can happen while i am driving this vehicle.
Motor blowe fan cracked and makes rattling noise behind glove box. Does not blow air.
Good morning. Since i drive this tacoma i notice the power train has a slow response driving small road or highway.went i press the gas pedal it make rough sound and i have to press harder in order to continue the car running. I brought the concern to the dealer during the schedule maintenance but they said is normal, even i went to a different dealer same toyota they told me the same thing. Please keep me updated if any campaig about 2017 toyota tacoma's thanking in advance for helping in this matter.
My vehicle was stationary when out of no where i hear a grinding noise. Turns out its my ac fan. My truck is at 39000 miles and this is the second failure within a 1.5 years of buying it.
2017 toyota tacoma ac blower motor broken at 17,000 miles. I can not run ac/heat/defoggers in 110 degree weather. Dealership told me part was on backorder with almost 1100 more with an eta of 75 + days.
Heating a/c blower failure causing car to not to have ability to defog, heat or cool car. Blower failed with normal use. Dealership and other part carriers have huge back order due to nationwide shortage, no available repair for foreseeable future. Part failed upon driving vehicle on 80 f day at roadway speeds. Vehicle has 49000 miles. Toyota page notes improper part size for failure, no date on when new parts are available. Unable to find aftermarket parts. Toyota forum lists other users experience failure at 15000-50000 mile mark. See complaints here https://www.toyoheadquarters.com/threads/2016-2017-toyota-tacoma-hvac-blower-motor-ssc-j0n.1363/

Blower assembly is broken, rattle noise when fan for ac or fresh air is turned on.
Blower motor broke and not giving a proper ac circulation. It's a year old car it should have this problem even now when half the country under a heat wave. That causes health issues under 112 degree weather.
My truck makes a loud thud sound when accelerating from a dead stop, slowing down to a dead stop, and slowing down fast from higher speeds from 70-25. This happens multiple times a day. I'm fearingfor my life and am not in financial position to get another car. Please look into this quickly. Thank you
Air conditioner/heater blower wheel failure.no defroster, no air conditioning.in arizona when its 111 degrees not having air conditioning is a real safety concern..

I have a 2017 toyota tacoma with 90,000 miles on it. The wind shield is not very resistant to abrasion, as the window has now become cloudy due to the abrasiveness of road dust, etc., especially when the sun is at a low angle. See the attached picture. I don't know if other owners have experienced this but i think a better quality wind shield is needed to help prevent this pitting and chipping. It can be very difficult to see anything that in front of the vehicle during driving, when the sun glare shines against the pits and chips. This should not happen on any vehicle under a few years old.
