Noticed that airbag warning light was coming on randomly. Sometimes it came on at startup and other times itwould come on while i was driving. Unable to make the light come on, but once it comes on it stays on until the engine is turned off. Sometimes it would not come on for 3-4 days.

Issue was noticed while driving, attempted to activate horn when vehicle in oncoming lane crossed in to my lane. Horn would not activate. Thankfully other driver course corrected in time. Complaint is related to has been reported to me by toyota as sudden failure of the clock spring or spiral cable. Horn failed approximately one week after vehicle had just passed an annual state inspection. Was informed that this is something "that happens" with time and forced to pay $700 to have repaired. Was warned that part that failed was also in control of airbags, cruise control and other electronics embedded in the steering column. This is an item which has previously been voluntarily recalled on other model years of toyota tacoma's and other models.

My horn stopped working and when i took my truck to the dealer he said that it was the clock spring cable inside of the steering wheel.the service agent daniel arviza at north bakersfield toyota in bakersfield california advised me that if i didn't get it fixed that the airbag could fail to deploy in the case of an accident.this seems like a important part of the truck to fail after only 3 years.i bought the truck new from the dealership and the warranty has expired.it's going to cost almost 500 dollars, but because it is a safety issue i have no choice but to have the part replaced.

The contact owns a 2013 toyota tacoma. While the contact was driving 45 mph through an intersection, another vehicle turned left in her path causing a collision. The front of the contact's vehicle crashed into the middle passenger side of the other vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. There were no warning indicators illuminated. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a whiplash and pain in the lower back and right knee. The front seat passenger sustained bruising to the right knee, whiplash, and soreness to the body. Medical attention was not required. The vehicle was towed to a collision center. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000. Photos attached *dtthe consumer stated vehicle was repaired.

We hit black ice and spun flipped into a ditch onto the passenger side of the truck airbag deployed on the passenger side the airbag caught on fire catching the whole truck on fire.

"takata recall" possible: driving northbound in the left lane on a clear day, no cars in front of me or next to me. I was driving on a city street in hollywood california. Visibility was clear around 4:00 p.m in the afternoon. I noticed a car making a left turn in front of me. I had no time to break, could not believe this driver had initiated a left turn. I immediately veered into the right lane to avoid hitting the car that had made a left turn in front of me. The driver hit me instead on the front left corner of my toyota tacoma truck, sending me head on into two parked cars. I suffered a concussion and a broken right hand. I noticed after the accident that neither the driver side air bag nor the passenger side air bag did not deploy. Los angeles police department concluded that i was not at fault. Driver initiated a 21801(a) vc-unsafe left turn in front of me. I still suffer from the accident and my hand is not the same.

On august 17, 2019, i had been stopped at a drive through fast food restaurant when i heard a hissing sound and what looked like steam coming from the rear undercarriage of my truck.it was noticeable enough to have me get down and physically look at the vehicle.i did not see any obvious signs of damage or error, so i went about my day as usual.i have noticed since then, this noise happens sporadically and the a/c is not working properly.i parked the truck for three weeks and when i went to start the truck, a bunch of instrument panel lights were flashing, wipers were wiping and interior lights were flashing off and on.i turned the truck off and then attempted to start again, but it would not start so i had to have the battery charged.now the vehicle's rear blinkers do not work properly and stereo will not turn on.fuses seem alright with the exception of one that continuously pops when replaced (fuse for stereo).

Daytime running lamps are melting the lens.

I have had 8 electric door locks fail in the last three years

I've had 5 door lock actuators fail on my 4 door tacoma.both passenger side locks were inoperative at the same time.when the door locks fail, the electronic locks and keyless entry do not work.the passenger-side doors do not have a key-hole backup, meaning that its not possible to unlock those doors without having to crawl through the vehicle from the driver's side.if i needed to get a child out of the back-seat quickly, that would not have been possible.

The contact owns a 2013 toyota tacoma. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the speedometer and the fuel gauge stopped working. The horn ceased to work in the straight ahead position of the steering wheel.toyota charged me $530 to replace the spiral cable.i considered it a safety issue.consider driving on a busy highway and the vehicle next to you tries to move into your lane.i wrote a letter of complaint to toyota usa.they responded only that my vehicle was out of warranty.

The contact owns a 2013 toyota tacoma. While driving 40-45 mph the heater/ air conditioner unit became inoperable as smoke was entered the vehicle through the vents. The contact noticed the wires were melted and disconnected the wires from the coupling. The vehicle was taken to toyota of kingsport (2525 e stone dr, kingsport, tn 37660) where the failure was diagnosed that the blower motor overheated]. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted.the failure mileage was 80,000.

The instrument panel light is too dim on sunny days for the 2013 toyota tacoma. The instrument panel is very dim at all times during the day, but disappears during bright sunlight. This is very unsafe because drivers during bright sunlight cannot determine their speed.

What happens: the front anti-lock brakes independently actuate for approximately .5-2.5 seconds. When: turning left 90%, right 8% and forward 2% the most frequent is a left turn where the bank of the road is at a significant angle. It is terrifying on a mountain road to have your front end dive down and loose control. My nerves are on edge with every turn, wondering if the truck is going to do its dive.my girlfriend refuses to ride in the vehicle because of it. It started happening approximately a year ago and i had faith toyota would come out with a fix. Toyota hasn't and there are numerous articles/complaints about the exact issue.it is a serious problem, especially on winding roads with oncoming traffic. And only a matter of time before something horrific happens. That one inexperienced driver that doesn't react quickly enough. Please put out the fix before the accident happens.

When coming to an abrupt stop, the transmission will slip into neutral and will not reengage first gear until the engine reaches 1.5k rpm and jolting the truck forward. The truck will then not shift into fifth gear and the traction control off warning light comes on until the truck has been shut off.

The contact owns a 2013 toyota tacoma. While driving 40 mph and attempting to make a right turn, the steering wheel began to pull in the opposite direction. The contact stated that there was an abnormal noise emitting from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer was contacted by telephone and the contact was informed of nhtsa campaign number: 14v054000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control); however, the vin was not included in the recall. The contact stated that the failure recurred four times. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

Driving towork traveling at between 55-60 i was going around a slight curve my foot was on the accelerator and out of no where the abs or stability control or something caused my truck to slam on the brakes causing the front to dive down and a temporary loss of control. No crash just spooked. I drive the route every day the same way never had this happen before. The skid indicator was flashing but no noticeable skid. I am sensitive to that feeling and there was none detected prior to this happening.

2013 tacoma, from parked position, started truck, release parking brake, foot on brake pedal, shifted to drive, accelerated, move about 5-10 feet truck acted as if brakes had been applied, would not move.i placed truck in park position shifted to drive and proceeded as normal.this happened two more times that same day about 20 minutes apart.

I need help please i brought a truck from dealer and they didn't tell me nothing about chases i have 45 days since i got iti was driving on freeway when i feel the truck was moving left side so i take to bodyshhop and the mechanic gave a report he found a lots problem with the truck i tried to speak with dealer but they not want to help or change the truck i want to return the truck because i can't pay for a truck t's not save to drive please help

While driving 40 mph, the abs activated on its own and the vehicle started to vibrate while making a turn and the steering wheel began to pull in the opposite direction.this has happened at least 8 times since 2013.

I have been running the same wheels and tires on the vehicle since it was brand new, running 17" aluminum wheels with a 10- ply rated 265/70/17 michelin lt which is a standard size for this vehicle. At about 47,000 miles the traction control on my tacoma started acting up badly making it very dangerous to drive on mountain roads with super-elevated turns. Basically the truck thinks it is sliding when it's not even close to breaking loose at 35 mph. The sensors or computer is failing causing the right front or left front wheel to pulse (apply brake pressure) which results in the vehicle pulling in the opposite direction i am steering. This is at low speed 35 to 40 mph. This is a very dangerous situation and i explained that the vehicle is 'pulling me across the center line into on coming traffic which could cause a head on collision and i got no response other than " if my shop foreman tells me the truck is operating as designed there is nothing more we can do or you. When i called it to the attention of the service manager and shop foreman at northridge toyota, i was told the vehicle shows no errors so the truck is "operating as designed' and their suggestion was to deactivate the traction control from now on, each time i drive a mountain road. I explained that they were asking me to deactivate the on board safety measures on the vehicle in order to drive the truck in the highest risk driving conditions, they again said the truck was operating as designed and that i should not expect their to be any repairs made. This is absolutely inexcusable. They went on to suggest i seek a second opinion at another dealer and they sent me down the road in my truck even though i told them the symptoms, duplicated the problem with shop foreman in the truck and most importantly that the truck was unsafe to drive. Fascinating!!!

The contact owns a 2013 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that he heard a whining noise from under the hood when the vehicle was first started. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection but the diagnosis was unavailable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 803.updated 4/22/13updated 06/03/2013

I am professional fire investigator assigned to investigating the origin and cause of a fire involving the subject vehicle identified. The evidence revealed to date supports that the cause of the fire was the result of the failure identified in nhtsa campaign number: 13v557000. My concern involves the consequence section listed in the campaign. Specifically the consequences section does not include that if left unaddressed, a failure of the valve springs may result in the fire event.a complete origin and cause written report has been generated of the efforts conducted and analysis to date. I've been provided permission by our client share all information generated to date with nhtsa representatives. However, because it is considered a private investigation i'm concerned about attaching the confidential report through this nhtsa website.the documentation available also includes 242 digital images captured which include the vehicle on fire, examination of the subject vehicle at a storage facility, documentation of the loss location and the efforts conducted during a nondestructive examination.at this point of the investigation we are ready to do the teardown (destructive efforts) and examination of the cylinder head, valves and associated components. My goal in completing this nhtsa document is to determine if a representative of the nhtsa like to attend or provide guidance during the upcoming examination.please feel free to contact me directly at [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Truck turns over, but not start without starter fluid (spark confirmed, no fuel). P2440 code displayed; cleared by scanner and code has not returned but problem persists. Once started with starter fluid, truck runs and drives normally, confirming no issues with fuel system. Problem usually re-occurs only on cold (left overnight) starts, but occasionally re-occurs even with a warm engine (i.e., stopped for gas).

Truck will making a rattle or knocking noise under load usually i can hear at 25 mph sometime 45 mph even at 65 mph at high way speed . That sound come from front of the engine, sound like timing chain losing tension . Took to dealerthe tech also heard that noise but they said nothing they can do about it right now ,and they recommend to use premium gas and i did that but still the same problem . Contact toyota ofusa for two month back and forth no resolve.all they got to said is not a drive-ability problems, they can't do anything about it yet.that noise really annoying, i can hear more and more every day but dealer and toyota of usa can't do anything about that....i very very worrying one day my engine lock up or break down on the road...

While driving at 40 mph the vehicle acts as if it's not getting correct power and feels like transmission or torque converteris lagging the the vehicle back. This issue only happens at 40 mph and feels as if vehicle my die going 40mph down the road.

When at cruising speed between 45-65 mph the steering wheel will begin to shake back and fourth/shimmy. Also at these speeds the engine begins to make noise compared to up and down revving sound it is mild sound maybe a 1000rpm change but the rpm gauge is not moving. Reminder this is in cruise mode.

Faulty secondary air pump or secondary air injection valve. Lost power in motion on city street

This is a very commonly reported phenomenon, see the websites listed at the bottom.reported phenomenon has occurred approximately 10 times within the previous 5000 miles.when entering a turn with no brake applied, most commonly a cloverleaf, the vehicle stability control will engage and apply the brakes in the middle of the turn.no brake lights are displayed so vehicles behind are not aware of the sudden slowing.environmental conditions were dry, sunny, and the vehicle speed is well within a safe speed.this is very repeatable in specific locations.this problem was been reported to dublin toyota and they do not know how to fix it, but will charge me to try a zero point calibration which is not proven to resolve this known problem....http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/112351-vsc-lift-interaction-how-common.html.......http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/suspension/41215-lift-vsc-answer.html..........http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/167922-who-has-problems-after-3-less-lift-vsc-who-doesnt.html........http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/272560-abs-activates-occasionally-after-front-end-lift.html........http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/92474-recalibrating-vsc-why-how.html.....my truck has an aftermarket add a leaf which increases ride height by 1.5".this truck has the same components that my previous 2006 truck had with no previous occurrences.please keep in mind that many toyota dealers offer this vehicle with up to a 3" lift.

The contact owns a 2013 toyota tacoma. While driving at 60 mph, with the flat bed cover open, the bolts that fastened the cover fractured. As a result, the cover detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The instrument panel light is too dim on sunny days for the 2013 toyota tacoma. The instrument panel is very dim at all times during the day, but disappears during bright sunlight. This is very unsafe because drivers during bright sunlight cannot determine their speed.

Engine and trac off warning lights illuminate for various duration two days or more then shut off after driving sometimes.

Daytime running lamps are melting the lens.

All of the heat shields protecting my floor boards from the heat of the exhaust are falling off. The have been falling off on the highway and generally while the vehicle is in motion. It seems as if the nuts that hold the shields on are corroding the aluminum shields.

Faulty secondary air pump or secondary air injection valve. Lost power in motion on city street

Over a week my vehicle began to start intermittently, then it finally stopped starting. I had it towed to the dealership and they told me the wire harness connection at the top of the fuelpump had burned up pins, and they needed to repair the wire harness and replace the connector. To have burned pins in a wire harness means arcing of some sort on top of my fuel tank. My children sit right above that pump in the back of the cab. Fuel vapor and electrical arcing of any kind does not mix.

Takata recall - error code p2437 and p2438. My truck has 76000 miles on it and is now in limp mode. It was very scary when it went there on the highway. I've seen online this problem existing on other toyota vehicles and they have recalls, but not the tacoma. This problem needs to be addressed. The truck won't go above 45 mph and the trac light is on and the check engine light. It just... Happened. Look into this common problem please and address it correctly.

As i started to apply gas the foot pedal accelerator moved to the floor on its own leaving the bottom of my foot and launching me through a cyclone fence. At 1 car length away from fence is when the peddle when to floor. I stomped on the break andstopped the truck. Please note. The mat did not make the peddle stick it moved on its own to full throttle.

The contact owns a 2013 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while attempting to move from a stop, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that intermittently the vehicle failed to accelerate. There was no warning. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

When accelerating after a stop there is a hesitation or stall.this happened with our 2010 tacoma, also.we traded for a 2013 and this truck does the same thing. Dealership says the transmission is searching for a gear.it is asafety issue because when you pull out in front of oncoming traffic the hesitation could cause enough of a delay to cause an accident. This happens after a complete stop and also after a slow down.

I was advised that i had a tsb from my truck ,i felt as if i was hit from behind and a thump or clunk felt when coming to a stop or take off from stop.told it was normal by all dealers?i drained to check fluid from at pan, only 1 qt. Came out, added required 3.2 qts as required, solution resolved and rides better than new, no help from toyota and dealers.very upset and happy i fixed and no compassion from toyota and dealers ! check tranny fluid level by draining pan and measure! had a toyota flush done 4 months prior and that's whe it began, toyota dealer did it wrong???not me !

The truck shudders or vibrates when accelerating and decelerating.the source of the shudder appears to be the drive shaft and carrier bearing.toyota has included this model in the technical service bulletin for the shudder.however, the dealership and toyota fail to tell you about the known problems with the truck before they sell it to a sucker like me.additionally, there is a vibration from the front end when i apply the brakes, especially when braking from high speeds.i took it back to the dealership and they had the technicians go through the instructions in the technical service bulletin.the technicians confirmed the shudder, and the service manager said there is no fix for the problem.this is totally unacceptable from a company like toyota.this issue qualifies under the "lemon law", both state and federal.i am going through the lemon law process now to try to get my hard-earned money back. I am going to tell everyone i know about the problems with the toyota trucks.additionally, this same problem has been identified in the toyota tundra 4x4.

Just before vehicle reaches a complete stop, or just as vehicle begins moving after stopping, there is a slight skip as vehicle decelerates or accelerates.it feels as if something is binding and then releases. My toyota dealership says that it is a drive shaft problem common in tacomas.

The truck will then not shift into fifth gear and the traction control off warning light comes on until the truck has been shut off.

Brand new vehicle experiencing extreme vibration when accelerating. This vibration is felt throughout the vehicle and has been duplicated to toyota. Faster acceleration results in stronger vibrations. Only explanation from toyota was that the there is an issue with the rear suspension (leaf springs). Toyota engineers have been to the dealership and have not been able to provide a valid solution other than to wait. I have spoken to other dealerships that state the tacoma and 4runner are affected. After dropping off my vehicle many times, this issue has still not been resolved.

I seem to have an intermittent clutch issue with my tacoma. When the outside temperatures are cold (below freezing) and the truck has been sitting over night, the clutch pedal is slow to return. I have been having this problem since winter set in here in sc. But until 3-14-2014, this has become a safety concern. I was coming out of my neighborhood and came up to a stop at a stop light which is on a hill. As i was sitting there a moped came up behind me. Due to the truck and outside temperature being below freezing, the clutch pedal was as usual, slow to return. Due to the clutch being slow to return and me being on a hill, i wasn't able to launch the truck fast enough and almost rolled over the person on the moped behind me. With this condition, the truck can be a safety, and accident hazard. It is a common problem on this truck after thorough research. The truck has also been into the shop 4 times for repairs, and 1 time to document the problem still exists after the 3 first repairs. I have been driving manual cars for close to 10 years now, and i have never had a problem with a clutch being slow to engage when its cold outside. Toyota needs to fix this problem before somebody gets hurt.

When accelerating through 20 mph a vibration/shudder is very noticeable. The more aggressive the acceleration the more noticeable the vibration. The vibration is also noted when decelerating from full speed. When in a coasting or braking deceleration a vibration is noted around 20 mph. When accelerating or decelerating the vibration is transient at 20 mph and always dampens out or goes away. Without even bothering for a test drive my toyota dealer attributed the vibration to "mud build up on the brake caliper". I shared a toyota service bulletin quoted by other tacoma owners but the dealer said the bulletin was no longer effective.

The contact owns a 2013 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that unless the emergency brake was engaged the vehicle would roll down hill. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 8,000 and the current mileage was 11,000. Updated 01/07/14*lj

After my taco was delivered to the dealer i drove it off the lot with 6 miles on it and while driving home i noticed what appeared to be a noise that sounded like radio feedback. I took it back to the dealer and after doing some checking was told that it was nothing serious and was scheduled to bring it in the following week. Upon taking it in and having it checked it was determined that there was a problem with it and that the noise was duplicated. They did replace the trans with new factory trans and i asked to be notified as to what was determined to be the failure. I have been contacted by toyota however was told that they would not divulge to me what had failed and was also told that it was proprietary as the trans belongs to toyota. After doing some research i have concluded that they did not want to tell me because they may very well be a problem with the trans. As there have been syncro issues. I find this disturbing at best and therefore now have the mind set that toyota does not live up to there customer satisfaction pledge. I have bought now 2 toyota's and may never ever buy one again.

Brand new vehicle experiencing a hard thumping noise that feels like the vehicle is being hit from behind when coming to a stop. This noise is felt throughout the vehicle and has been duplicated to toyota. The thump is experienced going forward and reverse. First explanation from toyota was that the drive shaft is binding under the pressure where it meets the slip yoke and then abruptly releasing that pressure. This thump feeling can be subtle or quite powerful. Any issues with the drive train can be dangerous to both the vehicle occupants, and the vehicles traveling behind said vehicle. Toyota engineers have been to the dealership and have not been able to determine a cause. I have spoken to other dealerships that state the tacoma and 4runner are affected. After dropping off my vehicle many times, this issue has still not been resolved.

The contact owns a 2013 toyota tacoma. The contact stated he received an unknown recall letter for the chassis, where it was completed at local dealer antwerpen toyota (12420 auto dr, clarksville, md 21029: (410) 531-5700). The contact stated shortly after the recall repair was performed, while driving over a speed bump he heard an abnormal sound. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact called and notified the local dealer of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

There is a drive shaft vibration on acceleration, 0-20 mph. This truck has a two piece drive shaft. The front shaft has a slip joint that slips into the trans, the other end of the front shaft is mounted to the body using a center support bearing. The rear shaft is a solid drive shaft that is mounted without a slip joint to compensate for movement between the rear end and the body. When the vehicle is accelerating or decelerating the rear drive shaft has no way to compensate for any movement. Checked on the web, there are blogs on this issue, along with drive shaft breakage.

During normal (mild acceleration) the truck vibrates and shudders. The problem was presented to the local dealer and a tsb was performed but no improvement. Dealership and toyota company refused to fix the issue.

The contact owns a 2013 toyota tacoma.the contact stated the vehicle failed to accelerate when initially stepping on the accelerator pedal. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 3,200. Updated 6/10/14

My complaint is on a 2013 toyota tacoma trd offroad dc 4.0 at vehicle experiencing a bad driveline vibration when accelerating and especially breaking. I first experienced the problem around 2200 miles while driving back from another state. While drivingover at least 40 mph and while braking normally to a stop between 35 mph and 20 mph a vibration occurs from the driveline. The steering wheel doesn't vibrate but my pedals start shaking as well as the cab of the truck. The vibrationwill start shallow around 35 and start to get really aggressive around 28 mph then it will tailor off around 20 mph.the vibration also occurs while taking off from a stop between 1st and 2nd gear but will go away. I brought this issue up with my toyota service department.they had my vehicle for a total of 6 days from start to finish. They performed tsb (t-sb-0249-12).this involves a series of steps.first they took the drive shaft off and put the vehicle is 4wd high and drove it.the vehicle still vibrated.with the vehicle back in 2wd and the driveshaft reinstalled the second step was to replace the rear motor mounts which they had to order next day since it was not in stock.the problem still was there. The third step was to replace the rear leaf spring on each side which they had to order next day since it was not in stock. This did not fix the problem. The next step was to replace the steering dampeners which they had to order next day since it was not in stock.again this did not fix the problem. Toyota advised them to switch out the draft shaft from a new truck similar in model to see if it was a drive shaft issue....still didn't fix it. They replaced the transmission mounts....no success. Toyota district service department told my service department...."toyota advises characteristic of truck and no repairs are needed at this time. Return truck to owner."

In stop and go heavy traffic on interstate, brake pedal went almost to the floor. On taking truck to toyota dealer, a failed brake master cylinder was replaced under warranty. No explanation was offered as to why a vehicle with only 6000 miles on it would suffer a failed brake master cylinder which could have resulted in a crash and injury to other cars and passengers.

It happened in a sunday afternoon.iwas driving my truck 2013 toyota tacoma (brand new less than a month).i had friends riding with me.i knew there is a stop sign and i saw the stop sign about several blocks away and lifted my right foot off the gas pedal.when i slightly applied my right foot on the brake pedal, my truck didn't even slow down a bit even though i pushed the brake pedal to the floor.my truck kept going like accelerating itself with big noise like vroooooooooom.i kept my foot on the brake and meanwhile shifted the stick from d to n to r to p just in split of a second.everybody in my truck was scared because my truck almost reared into the car at the stop sign and my friends thought we were going to crush into the car in front of us. The dealer grounded the truck the next day after i reported the incident and promised to make a thorough service to this vehicle and find the problem.

The contact owns a 2013 toyota tacoma. While driving 40 mph, the abs activated on its own and the vehicle started to vibrate while making a turn. The contact was unable to determine if any instrument panel warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to maintain control of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact has possession of vehicle. The failure mileage was 104,905.

The vehicle has extremely grabby brakes and i feel that they contributed to the loss of control i experienced on slippery road surfaces.as i attempted to gently slow down by applying the brakes i lost the back end of the vehicle resulting in a loss of control.the road conditions were not favorable, but i have driven may other vehicles in much worse conditions without experiencing this issue.i feel that probability of losing control of the vehicle would have been greatly reduced if the brakes were not grabby.

The contact owns 2013 toyota tacoma.the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph making a right turn, the steering wheel became hard to maneuver and the tires made a dragging sound. The abs and traction control system warning lights illuminated.the failure recurred multiple times.the vehicle was towed to the dealer.the technician was unable to locate a problem.the manufacturer was notified of the failure informed the contact that the vin was not included in recall nhtsa campaign number: 14v054000 (electronic stability control, service brakes, hydraulic).the approximate failure mileage was 3,053.

When braking between 45-65 mph, i can feel a strong shimmy and shaking in the steering wheel. I have to let off the brakes or it feels like something is going to break in the drive train, steering column, or wheels are going to fall off. Its very scary and dangerous, especially when you might not be able to stop the vehicle. I've asked the toyota dealer to check it once and they didn't do anything to fix the problem. This is particularly unsafe when driving 95 or the turnpike, and you have to brake hard at times.

I would like to submit a complaint to the administrator national highway traffic safety administration due to a recall on my toyota tacoma truck. I recently called a toyota dealership (servco waipahu) and explained that two out of the 3 indicator lights noted on my safety recall letter came on while i was driving and did not turn off. Knowing that this was not a good sign, i moved to the side of the road and tried to turn off my car. In doing so, nothing happened. The indicator lights continued to illuminate. When i called, they were well aware of my recall issue however did not show any concern of the problem that i just stated. The service department told me that they were booked with cars and were unable to service my car until june 23. That is more than 50 days away. The note/recall letter mentions that the functions being inoperative "can increase the risk of a crash" and that if the lights do not turn off, i needed to call for "immediate" diagnosis and appropriate repair. In asking how serious was the issue, the lady could not help me nor did she try to get somebody on the phone. They mentioned that i could bring in my car and leave it for standby. She also mentioned that it could take a week. I would be without a car for a week. How do they expect me to go to work? i am frustrated because it is not my fault that my car is one of the many that are being recalled, so there should be at least something to help those that would be inconvenienced without a car. They did not offer anything. I know the update/recall will be without a charge however the amount of time people will be inconvenienced is not worth it. I was willing to take my car in since the light was on, however to not have it for a week or more, i don't know about that. Thank you for having such site to voice my concerns. I am about safety and customer service, and i don't feel i received that today!

Reporting problems with my 2013 toyota tacoma vin [xxx]:although the vehicle has been very reliable otherwise, there are three significant problems i have had with my vehicle:1. The vehicle can experience sudden acceleration, noted especially while idling. The set idle speed, which the dealer has told me conforms to manufacturer's guidelines, is very high, and when at a stop sign or other stop, it can suddenly lurch forward. The sudden acceleration, which may be linked to idling while the air conditioning is on, is very alarming. In one instance, linked to what i describe in item 2, i believe this was a contributor to a crash into my garage, causing considerable damage.2. The floor mats, which were a manufacturer's accessory for the vehicle, can easily become detached from their eyelet hooks, and may then slip under the brake pedal. This was also a likely contributor to the accident described above.3. The sun visor retaining bracket no longer works on the driver's side, and it no longer has the required tension to hold it up. The bracket assembly is a cheap plastic bracket. I?m sure toyota can come up with some fix and change this for future models.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2013 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while driving at 10 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the brakes failed to respond. The brake pedal required to be depressed violently in order for the vehicle to come to a stop.the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 44,000. Updated 05/11/16*ljthe consumer stated the dealer cleaned and adjusted the brakes. Updated 05/17/16.

The steering in my tacoma has suddenly become stiff.it began 3 days ago and has gotten worse.the truck is handling poorly.the steering feels tight at all speeds.i have not solved the problem as yet but have been lubricating the universal joint at the bottom of the steering shaft.it feel similar to the same problem i had with my 2005 tacoma.the steering shaft universal joint should be designed as a sealed unit and ability to grease it.

The contact owns 2013 toyota tacoma.the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph making a right turn, the steering wheel became hard to maneuver and the tires made a dragging sound. The steering in the truck has tight spots.as the steering wheel is rotated there are places where it seems to bind and get stiff then suddenly loosen again.i have taken it to a local garage and they showed me the universal joint in the intermediate steering shaft.the joint is badly corroded and binds in certain positions.lubricating it has helped a small amount temporarily.the steering feels strange at all speeds and when stationary.

Vehicle problem since new, steering wheel shake at speeds between 45-75mph.took to dealer stated that they new of the problem and there was nothing they can do.tech drove the vehicle and stated that he felt nothing when the shimmy was quit obvious (i was sitting next to him).have taken to other local shops and they are unable to remedy the shake. Shake causes passenger seat to shake as well truck bed to hop.toyota of america is well aware of this problem and has shown no effort to remedy the problem.many cases documented on toyota forums and blogs.toyota has had to deal with arbitration from many consumers and all cases have been turned down.a major investigation on this problem needs to be done.owners of the tacoma, 4runner and tundra have had the issue.

This issue has been ongoing. Taken into local toyota dealer and was told they needed to replace entire rack and pinion at a cost of nearly $1500. Three days after picking up it is doing same thing. While steering around corner it will temporarily lock and suddenly it feels like it has no power steering. I am getting nothing but the run around from wooster toyota. My wife very nearly was in an accident because of this. This truck only has 80000 miles. [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Steering is very tight due to poorly made u joint on the intermediate steering shaft. Was quoted $460 by toyota to replace. I feel like this safety issue should be rectified free of charge through a tsb or recall

Steering suddenly became extremely stiff when making a left or right turn.brought to mechanic and confirmed the lower intermediate steering shaft was badly rusted and needed to be replaced

The contact owns a 2013 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. I took my 4 wheel drive truck on a dirt road, it has small embedded rocks on it, people also drive cars on this road it is no big nasty dirt road, it felt like the front wheels were going to fall off and i was wondering if i was going to actually make it out of the 9 mile dirt road, i got back to the highway and took my tire wrench and checked all my lug nuts and to me they were all 1/2 turn loose, i took it to victory toyota and they took it on a dirt parking lot and i told them it needed to be more rough and they seemed like they did not care, so they put on invoice could not duplicate problem and sent me on my way, now i took it into toyota before the date i put on i just cant find invoices for it, i took it to lavender brothers and put on a 2 1/2 inch lift kit on it and i was hoping that was going to fix the problem but it did not, i have taken it back to victory toyota 6 times for same problem and they take it out to the same dirt parking lot and put down cannot duplicate customers concern, i told them i was willing to even pay for it to get fixed but they just don't seemed to care i even asked some of them if you drive 30 miles to this road i will give you 300 dollars and no one took it, i tell them every time the dirt road is not rough enough and if they could go with me to this particular dirt road they would know without a doubt what i am talking about but they don't want to go the extra mile for a customer that just spent 35,000and did not go on a vacation in 5 years to save for this truck, so now the steering at times feels loose in the steering wheel and just sometimes when i turn the wheels all the way to one side or the other and start to roll it makes a real nasty noise, its sad to have a new truck with 8700 miles on it and i don't really feel safe and i am going on vacation at the end of july and i am taking my truck and i just hope everything is ok.

The step bumper is rusted and is unsafe to step on. The springs have excessive rust on the welds.

All of the heat shields protecting my floor boards from the heat of the exhaust are falling off. The have been falling off on the highway and generally while the vehicle is in motion. It seems as if the nuts that hold the shields on are corroding the aluminum shields.

We hit black ice and spun flipped into a ditch onto the passenger side of the truck airbag deployed on the passenger side the airbag caught on fire catching the whole truck on fire.

The contact owns a 2013 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the front driver side window failed to close. On one occasion, during rainy weather, the window failed to close and water entered the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the window rail needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 5,000.

The frame is badly rusted with holes in it.

At around 40,000 miles my tires started cupping, i put on new tires with wheel alignment, at 55,000 miles i noticed my rear had a harder ride than usual and seemed to bottom out on bumps. Again with 85,000 miles (30k on new tires) tires were cupped and realized it after i spun out in the rain. I went to the mechanic and he said you have weak rear leaf springs and 1 leaf broken close to gas tank, he said there was a leaf spring recall on the 2011's and prior with 3 leaf packs (which i have) , 2 sets of tires and now springs cost me thousands, why aren't all tacomas with 3 pack leaf springs recalled?

The step bumper is rusted and is unsafe to step on. The springs have excessive rust on the welds.

Massive squeaking noise coming from the drivers side front suspension. Took it to the dealership and the replaced the upper a-arm and a corroded bolt that's in an area that water can't get into. Noise went away for a month and now has returned. In the same area. After getting some information from a suspension mechanic they are aware of an ongoing issue with the tacoma front suspensions and a possible fix from toyota that that replaces the front coils and struts bur i have not heard anything from toyota about it. All previous work on my vehicle done by dealership.

Driving on any road the rear suspension creeks bad. Whether your are coming to a stop or accelerating, turning in either direction, or traveling down a paved highway with expansion joints. You hear a large creek of metal coming from the back end of the truck. This is a daily driver on highways and town roads. The truck is carrying no load in the box and you hear the creeks and it gets worse when it is lightly loaded. It started in late feburary of 2019 and the truck has 81000 miles on it.

During routine maintenance i found that my sons truck has a broken leaf spring on the drivers side. Having owned a number of tacoma's over the years i am well aware of the recall issues in previous years

Rear leaf spring broke

Driving on a road, passing another car, truck rolls and jouncy , soft shocks and struts, looked under, at home all shocks and struts are leaking oil and bouncy vehicle and bad ride in bumpy roads. I replaced rear shocks at my expense first then weeks later ,i replaced the front struts !all leaked oil from shocks and struts way to early, ongoing for past few months earlier! replaced and paid labor at my own expense since dealerships and toyota would call this out of warranty and normal wear and tear! cheap oem parts instad of quality? i installed rancho rs 5000 series all around! rides and handles very much better now!!!

My 2013 toyota tacoma 4x4 trd's front wheels attempt to lock up one at a time at highway speeds. It's like i'm tapping just one of my front brakes. If i'm not holding the steering wheel the truck will veer off the road. Beaverton toyota has replaced the wheel bearing, hub and a wheel sensor, calibrated the steering sensor and realigned it. I believe the reason the alignment was so far off is due to the stress of just one front wheel locking up repeatedly at highway speeds. This has been going on over a year now and beaverton toyota has not been able to resolve this problem. This only has happened on straight stretches of highway above 65mph and occurs more often on hot days.

While driving at 40 mph the vehicle acts as if it's not getting correct power and feels like transmission or torque converteris lagging the the vehicle back. This issue only happens at 40 mph and feels as if vehicle my die going 40mph down the road.

Sun visors fail to stay in the up position. With normal use, the sun visors begin to stay about halfway down and fall further with time. Eventually, they no longer go up at all and may pose a risk to the driver's vision.

Sun visor holding mechanism has broken internally. This causes the visor to flop down blocking my vision. There is no stable position that does not block about a third of the windshield. This failure is common on several automotive forums on the web. It has been that way as far back as 2008. This is long standing safety problem in toyota vehicle. Perhaps toyota could be encouraged to deal with it.

Front end shakes excessively when accelerating over 50 mph and feels wobbly steering and jitters during deceleration. Very annoying feels likes drivers side tires are loose when driving on dry pavement.

Brand new vehicle.cruise control fails to disengage when depressing brake pedal.this is the on-going status.brake must be pushed down about 2" before cruise control disengages. Despite repeated attempts to get the vehicle serviced, toyota of olympia refuses to acknowledge the problem and so refuses to fix it even though vehicle in under warranty and extended service agreement.several instances have occurred and resulted in unintended travel of a couple hundred feet towards an obstacle because the cruise did not disengage.i've driven scores of vehicles over the last 40 years and none of them had a cruise control that needed the brake pedal to be pushed down so far to disengage.it may be a design flaw that is causing an unsafe driving condition for anyone and everyone who drives a tacoma, or it is a defective vehicle.either way it is a danger.

My2013toyota tacoma 4 cylinder truck, while in motion, intermittently accelerates, without warning, for a few brief seconds then correct it self.this acceleration happens withoutthe driver initiating the acceleration by pressing on the accelerator. This has been happening for about 1-1/2 years. For approximately the past 4 months (july - nov 2016) the enginerevs uptohigher revolutions, immediately after engaging the ignition, while still in park. It's as ifi was deliberately pressing on the accelerator immediately after starting the engine, whileit was still in the park position.in fact i had not pressed onthe accelerator.when i had it checked out, i was told that's the way toyotasstart. It was after the truck began to bolt/accelerate at a high speed after going from a park position to either a reverse or drive position, immediately after releasing the brakes, and not pressing on the accelerator, the week of october 25,2016 that i reported the issues to the toyotacustomer care experience center, in plano, texas (case numbers: 161 027 1958 and 161 110 2063) .ballentine toyota, in greenwood, s. C.inspected the vehicle and drove it about 300 miles and reported to me that no problems were found. After getting the vehicle back nov, 4, 2016, nothing happened for awhile, then on nov., 9, 2016it would not allow me to accelerate for a few seconds after driving about 9 yards.the first timethe truck didnot allow me to acceleratewas on oct. 25,2016, when i attempted to accelerateto 55 mph.after about 20 miles i was finally able to reach 55 mph. On nov., 10, 2016 the truckbolted/accelerated as i attempted to leave aparking lotwhile out shopping.i leftit in the parking lot at the store where i was shopping.it remains there as of this writing november 14, 2016.updated 06/26/2017

I was going to visit a friend in lancaster sc when i noticed a crack in the windshield. This crack appeared and nothing had failed on it. It starts at the bottom, just slightly to the passenger side from center and it goes upward about 7"-8", then goes towards the driver's side for an additional 12"-15". There was nothing that fell on it when it was noticed. It appears to be either a manufacturing defect or a crack which has resulted from something shifting on the vehicle.

On date of service i was informed by advisor [xxx]that all 24 wheel fasteners (lugs) holding on the wheel studs did not have ample threads. I was escorted to service area of my vehicle and saw what he was describing to me. It was the wrong lugs nuts installed. There was no enough ample threads to tighten the lugs to the wheel studs 1-3 threads definitely not to vehicle specification to maintain the tires on for safe driving, it could have cause the tires rip off and apart. My life was in there hands and toyota could care less about my safety and safety of others had the wheels come off. Photo's was taken by me and the wrong lug nuts was offered back to me.the truck was purchase at lugoff toyota in south carolina on 08/23/13 the first service was done at dick dyer toyota in sc on 05/07/14 my service copy under labor and parts shows tire rotations. If in fact this service was done it would have been notice by dick dyer toyota on 05/07/14 this issue was brought to the attention of the service manager [xxx] . I was told to take the truck back to where i purchase it. They couldn't do anything about this problem.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
