Driver side airbag not deploy when truck hit telephone pole truck totaled.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. While driving at approximately 35 mph, the contact's vehicle crashed into the side of another vehicle causing significant damage to the front end. The air bags failed to deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 29,000.updated 8/10/15the consumer stated the repair cost approximately $10,000. Updated 11/24/2015

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, he crashed into a tree and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact stated that the vehicle was destroyed but there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to a body shop. The cause of the failure was unknown. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 20,000.

Toyota has know that the clock spring has been failing for years. They issued a recall for model years 2005-2009. Trucks in the model years 2010-2012 are also affected. Problems - loss of horn, loss of airbag. Optional if equipped - loss of cruise control and/or loss of radio controls.this is a major safety hazard! loss or horn and loss of air bags are a very, very dangerous situation!!!the clock spring fails randomly so you might not be aware until it is too late!!!

Rear passenger door does not have welded in window stops. Glass could shatter and airbag could deploy.

60,000 miles. Three years ago the airbag light came on. We brought it and paid for diagnostics but no answers. Now the check engine light and track off are lighting (not related to first issue) and the truck is in slowdown mode. We replaced the gas-cap but it didn't fix the issue. Disappointed in what used to be a quality company.

Driving my toyota tacoma, i was approaching a steep decline. I tapped on the brakes and continued driving at approximately 27 mph when i down shifted to accommodate for the snowy road. As i was down shifting the truck lost control and slid sideways causing the front passenger side to hit a snow bank. Once the truck struck the snow bank it flipped over on its driver side. The side air bags on both sides came out but did not inflate. The driver side bags were torn. I found evidence of this with shredded pieces of the air bag found in the vehicle. Additionally the driver side front air bags never deployed..updated 03-02/15 .....updated 03-11-15updated 9/22/2017

The air bag warning light has come on twice while driving my tacoma.the first time i was driving on the freeway and the second time i was driving on city streets.as soon as i stop the vehicle and unbuckle the seat belt the light goes off.the local toyota dealer did a diagnostic check and test drive but they could find or duplicate the problem.they said there is no recall on the vehicle, which i have also verified.

Sun visor , spring inside visor breaks. Making the visor hang down.wire harness from ac blower motor, so somewhere in the engine compartment overheats and melts wiring so the air conditioning stops working.

Secondary air injection valve stuck codes p2440,p2442. Truck goes into limp mode and you can only go a max of 40 mph.toyota knows about these issues and does nothing about it

Fuel system can be heard hours afterthe truck is parked, few times a week and sometimes daily .and runs 2 to 15 minutes.contacted dealer and says it normal for fuel evap to do a system check. Ongoing started before 3000 miles

Dealer has determined that rodents are thru the wiring for the knock sensor.cel & trac lights came on.engine went into limp mode.has been at the dealer now for one week.probably be another week before i get it back.

Horn stopped working a couple of years ago. My research showed it was same problem with 2010 tacoma's,and they were recalled! read there was a recall to replace a defective spiral cable in steering wheel. Called toyota was told to take to dealer, but would have to pay,and maybe be reimbursed. Don't have the money been unemployed for 4 years.

Engine/all power is lost when engine has reached a certain rpm. Code reader states "crankshaft position sensor "a" circuit malfunction".

When i was leaving work the other night my 2012 tacoma went into limp mode and presented the cel and trac off lights on the dash. After reviewing the many blogs on the subject and taking the vehicle to the mechanics, i have found out that the secondary air valve is likely stuck in the open position. The mechanic has quoted me a price of $1,142 ($780 for the part) to replace the whole system (valve not sold separately). I understand that this is a common problem with tundras/sequoias and 2012 tacos. However, only the tundras are under any type of warranty. I bought a tacoma because the last two toyota's have run 300k miles + with regular maintenance. This type of expensive repair due to poor engineering is ludicrous and should be a warranty issue. I guess toyota wants to be terrible like everyone else. Great.

My 2012 tacoma has a spiral wire issue that dealer refuses to fix even though this part is associatedwith the takata recall in previous year models wondering why the recall stopped at 2011 and does not cover the issue with my truck.currently only affectin the use of my horn but as seen in previous recalls could affect more lthings later on.

Horn quit working, only works when the wheel is turned to the left, fuses are good and so are the relays.

The secondary air injection systems seems to fail quite frequently on these 2012 tacomas with little to no help from toyota to take care of this issue as a recall. These are known to fail right after your out of warranty and to charge it's loyal customers over $1000 for a part that should not fail or a part that should be covered is absurd. I have been a loyal toyota customer my whole life but the issues of the tacoma are making me rethink my decisions as an automotive consumer

Horn will not work with the steering wheel centered. If you turn the steering wheel 90%to the left or right the horn has worked sometimes. Toyota issued a recall for this problem on other tacomas but not for the 2012. The toyota dealership is saying that its most likely the clock spring.

Driving at high way speed; the abs light, parking brake light, traction light, lost power to windows, a/c, radio, power steering, engine was running rough, then the check engine light came on. Could be a safety issue of control of vehicle for drivers not paying attention. Toyota dealer said the root cause was a bad cell in battery that caused the ign#2 fuse to be blown. These batteries have known issues to be bad from the factory. Reported earlier about 30000 miles the factory battery would not start vehicle and dealer said they replaced because of a bad cell. I own a 2008 toyota tacoma also ,same model and make as being reported and that battery has been replaced 2 times for same reason.

Horn will not work with the steering wheel centered.if you turnthe steering wheel to the left or right and pushing the horn it will work. Toyota issued a recall for this problem on 2005-2009 tacoma but not for the 2012.toyota has known that they have a problem with the clock spring that they won't address on the 2012's.

Secondary air injection valve stuck open causing limp mode.happened near very dangerous intersection and lost all power in truck.as others have stated, truck only has 50k miles and required a $500+ repair (part only) for a component of the emission system which is only used on startup and includes a warranty of only 2 years.

Toyota has know that the clock spring has been failing for years. They issued a recall for model years 2005-2009. Trucks in the model years 2010-2012 are also affected. Defective clock spring.open circuit.

The check engine light and the trac off light came on as i was merging onto the interstate. I immediately stopped the vehicle, pulled over, and took my 2012 toyota tacoma with 78,000 miles to the mechanic where i left it overnight for them to look at it in the morning. Running a diagnostic they found code p2443 - secondary air injection switching valve stuck. I asked if they had dealt with this before and they said this is a common problem for toyota and they have done recalls on both the tundra and sequoia models that have had these issues, but the tacoma hasn't had a recall yet, even though it seems to be just as common with the same parts. They said the cost of parts and labor would be around $2,000. When i asked them if the vehicle was safe to drive off their lot they said these codes can cause the tacoma to go into "limp mode" where you can loose power, acceleration, and won't be able to go over 45mph. I hate to think what could have happened if i had kept merging onto the interstate and tried to get up to speed only to "limp" into traffic or if this had happened a minute later on the interstate! every thread i read online from multiple sources show people having similar issues from as low as 1,000 miles on the truck. The issues with the secondary air injection pump and switching valves seems most common between 50,000-80,000 miles, but eventually does happen in the 2012-2015 tocoma models.

Brakes on vehicle lock-up and are overly sensitive.on many occasions when driving on wet pavement at slows speeds the abs engaged and locked the brakes with only very light pressure on the brake pedal.on one occasion when driving at 10-15 mph in a parking lot in snow, a light touch to the brake locked up the brakes causing the vehicle to become unstable and crash.i have had four other toyota trucks, three of them tacomas and none of them had this braking issue.barely pressing the brakes shouldn't cause them to lock up which causes the vehicle to become very unstable.luckily it does it more often at low speeds.it's a major safety concern as the vehicle becomes undrivable.

I was driving on the freeway, in light rain. My car randomly engaged a system that slowed my vehicle down. This resulted in my losing traction with the road, my truck began to hydroplane. My truck spun and moved towards the highway median. The median had a v-ditch, my front passenger tire impacted the v-ditch and flipped my vehicle. If it weren't for my seat belt locking and side airbags deploying it may have been a fatal accident. It was a life threatening accident.

Check engine light came on and vehicle was not going past 2k rpm and over 20mph. Connected to an onboard diagnostic reader which gave me codes p2440 and p2442- secondary air injection valve stuck open bank 1 & 2. Vehicle has less than 50,000 milesand only 4 years old and toyota does not cover faulty equipment under any warranty (powertrain or federal emissions) although they have issued canada tsb 3861 acknowledging the deficiency, but leaving the ownerto pay $645.00 for the replacement part from toyota dealer. This is unsatisfactory- they must be held accountable for a vehicle still within powertrain (60,000mi) or federal emission (80,000mi) warranty.

Trac off warning light came on automatically.the vehicle was stationary.i had turned car on to drive down the hill on my property.

My 2012 toyota tacoma prerunner 2wd has 54,640 miles. I just got a check engine light and "trac off" light yesterday. My truck would accelerate to just 25 mph when merging onto the interstate and top speed was around 50 mph. This is a serious safety issue and toyota will not cover this known problem under the standard 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. Autozone ran the diagnostic scan and came up with trouble codes p2440 and p2442. These are tied to the secondary air injection system and switching valves. The toyota dealership said this would cost me close to $2000 to repair. I paid $30,000 for this vehicle brand new just 4 years ago. This needs to become a class action lawsuit so that asafety recall is issued for toyota to repair this known defect for free.

Vehicle was in motion on rainy, wet highway when check engine light went on and traction control was shut off. The secondary air injection switching valve is apparently stuck closed, which for some reason shuts off the traction control. It is my understanding from speaking with other tacoma and tundra owners that had the valves gotten stuck open, the vehicle goes into "limp mode" which automatically decreases speed to 20mph. Obviously, either of these occurrences are particularly unsafe in rainy and wet conditions, and the decrease in speed is unsafe during any highway traveling. This is apparently a big enough issue on the tundra models for toyota to extend the warranty to 150,000mi, yet they have done nothing for the tacomas which have an identical system and parts.

2012 tacoma with 37,00 miles: while leaving a parking lot and trying to accelerate on to a busy highway, (60mph speeds),truck would not accelerate and "check engine" and "trac off" lights illuminated. Vehicle went into "limp mode" and would not go faster than 35 mph. I had to quickly pull off the road as to not cause an accident. If this had this occurred while traveling at normal highway speed (60 mph+), would definitely be in a wreck due to the sudden downshift and deceleration. I took vehicle to local auto parts store and received the code p2442: secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open bank 2. From researching, this is a known problem with 2012 tacomas, and had previously been an issue with older tundras, which toyota issued a tsb for. Toyota refuses to repair this under warranty (either powertrain or federal emissions) even though the failed part is directly tied to the emissions system! the system is used to pump additional air into the exhaust manifold upon startup to dilute the over-rich conditions that lead to increased pollution. (how is that not an emissions related part?) the failure or warping of the one-way check valve causes hot exhaust gases to backflow into the solenoid, and melting the gaskets. This ends up blocking the sealing plate and causing it to remain in the open position. The danger is that the hot exhaust is then fed into a plastic air pump causing it to potentially melt or catch fire! the fact that this forces the vehicle into "limp mode" is also a huge safety concern as it will not allow the vehicle to travel above 35 mph and could lead to serious accidents if traveling at high speed on the interstate or highway due to the unexpected, sudden deceleration. Failed assembly is toyota part number : 25710-31020. This part number has been superseded by p/n: 25710-31022 and toyota charges between $1500-$3200 to replace.

Brakes actuate abnornmal. Brakes engage approx. 2 seconds after they are applied. Brakes also will come on at full force locking the vehicle up. Master tech diagnostic - faulty brake booster. Toyota has recalls for 2012 tacoma's however my vin is not included in recall.

The secondary air injection system went out

Abs goes off unexpectedly in low speeds/high speeds...dry/wet conditions...usually on winding roads with grade fluctuations causing vehicle to slide into oncoming traffic.this has been going on since my purchase in 2012.thankfully i have not been in an accident due to this but lots of close calls.toyota refuses to resolve this issue, and denys that it happens.

The abs actuates prematurely during cornering on freeway on/off ramps and in corners resulting in suspension dive, an under steer condition, and loss of vehicle control.this occurs when the vehicle is in motion at posted speed limits on dry pavement.i have contacted toyota/been to the dealership several times about this issue with no resolution.they claim that the leveling kit and at tires are to blame.i related that i had this issue with the truck when it was brand new with no modifications.

As i've read from numerous other 2012 tacoma owners on tacomaworld.com, my secondary air injection switching valve has failed at 65k miles. This seems to be a recurring issue with all 2012 similar tacoma models and should absolutely be recalled and replaced for free! until fixed, my truck is undrivable, meaning the cel light is on and the truck won't go faster than 30 mph.

At start up "check engine" and "trac off" lights were on. Truck had no acceleration and transmission would not shift. I took the car to the dealership and diagnostic codesp2440 and p2442 were detected. Dealer had to replace the air injection system bank 1 and bank 2. During research, i discovered numerous other owners of 2012 tacoma's complaing about the same issue. Some even lost power while driving. Also, the tundra apparently had a similar issue being reported

I have check engine light on and the trac off light on. This common problem wiyhe tundra model. Alot of tacoma owner have same problem but tacoma doe not have exdended warranty like tha tundra. My truck only have 59k miles it's only 5years and 3 months old they said won't cover the problem. Problem 1 seconndary injection system valve i have to code p2440 p2442.

Right front wheel suddenly locks for several seconds putting a drag on that wheel, slowing that wheel down.happens on sharp turns only so far, mostly going down hill, all at reasonable, safe speeds for the curve.driver is not using the breaks at the times this has happened, and releases the gas and holds tight to the steering wheel.no dash lights appear.it is increasing in frequency and starting to scare us on our deep cliff curve roads. This has been happening just once in awhile 5 years, but is now happening 2-5 times each time we drive the 15 mile river canyon with tight curves and steep cliffs.we only know wheels ans brake system are involved, and the stability of the vehicle.

My 2012 tacoma warning light 1) engine and 2 trac off warning light came on and lost power going 65 mph on freeway and would not go over 25 mph (dangerous!). Obd-ii scanner displayed error code check p2442 indicating faulty air injection pumps and/or air switching valves.

Air injector pump causing engine light and trac light to come on and sudden loss of power. Vehicle in motion when occurring.

2012 with 78,000 miles, threw codes p2440, p2442.same as every other tacoma owner in this year range.bad valves and pump on the secondary air injection unit.cost to repair around 1,000 dollars doing the work myself.very disappointed as this is my third tacoma and had planned on keeping this one for a long time.

Check engine light and trac off light came on. Truck will not exceed over 2500 rpm and/or reach a speed over 25 mph. No torque/power when gas pedal is pressed, espesicially when traveling up steep terrain. Toyota needs to issue a recall on this issue.

Engineoil light comes on and flashes a few times after startup, beyond the normal time for all the other lights while in the starting mode, dealer could not duplicate

On the way home from a recent camping trip my check engine light and trac light came on in my truck. The truck went into "limp" mode would not accelerate up a hill above 20 miles per hour. We drove to the nearest auto zone, they pulled the codes p2436 and p2442. I was able to clear the codes and make it home. I started researching this and found the secondary air switching valves to be a common failure on tacomas and tundras. I feel this part needs to be recalled and upgraded, this could be a major safety issue if the vehicle went into "limp" mode in heavy traffic or while crossing across heavy traffic. The replacement part 25710-31022 was ordered from the dealership today. I also filed a complaint with toyota customer service.

My 2012 tacoma is throwing lights on for a new secondary air injector valve , parts p2440 and p2442. The toyota mechanic said this is a common problemwith these over the past few years as the 2012's hold moisture after shut down and the valves break down. I see this is a common problem online and a very expensive fix for us all. This should be covered fix, just because it doesn't cause in imminent health hazard doesn't mean it's not a problem that toyota should cover.the issue with the vehicle once a sensor detects this problem is that it puts it in a limp mode, and makes the vehicle very sluggish even difficult to achieve 45 mph.

Cel and trac off lights came on and truck went into limp mode. I was only able to drive 25-35mph in limp mode. Took 2012 toyota tacoma to local mechanic and the trouble code was p2442, secondary air injection system bank 2 valve stuck open.contacted toyota dealer but no help even though toyota corporate is aware of the problem on 2012 toyota tacomas as well as other models.

83k miles. Eng light and trac lights comes on, while drivingtruck goes into limp mode and will not excelerate past 2500 rpms and will not go any faster than 35 mph. Error code p2442 secondary air injection system switching valve problem.very dangerous problem

Truck normally starts right up, cranked it over no start. Tried it again and it started, but the "check engine" and the "trac control" lights stayed on. Tried gettingon the freeway and had very little power getting on the on-ramp. Put the flashers on to prevent cars exiting the freeway @ 65 mph from crashing into me and my limping tacoma. They also put their flashers on too. Very unsafe! limped towards home on surface streets....1 hour drive took me 2. Scanned the error codes and p2440 and p2442 came up, switches stuck open in the #1 & #2 bank. After spending $1470.54 for parts i made the repairs. Looked @ a co-workers 2008 tacoma and this bad idea is not on his tacoma.....hhhhhmmmm. He,s just lucky i guess. Please help.very unsafe design, very expensive remedy

Pulled onto the interstate and the truck would no accelerate.put on my hazards and tried to avoid getting hit.got off on the next exit.had to go up a hill to get home and truck was struggling to maintain 20 mph.took it to the dealer who said it was the air injection valves and that the truck had gone into limp mode because of the emissions problem.codes were p2440, 2442.dealer said problem is not covered by powertrain warranty and emissions warranty expired.

While driving and turning onto a highway, "check engine"and "trac off" warning lights came on as i pulled into traffic. Truck went into limp mode so i couldn't accelerate. Oncoming traffic worked around me as i turned on my hazard lights. Secondary air injection system p2440 and p2442 are the error codes associated with the valves stuck open.

Failure of the secondary air injection pump and valve emission system prompted engine to run in a reduced power mode, and this occurred on a on a relatively new vehicle with below average mileage.while setting may protect engine, this created an unsafe driving environment for vehicle within fast moving traffic.my compliant is not related to the reduced driving mode that may have protected the engine, but rather the poor design of the air-pump/valve system that prematurely failed causing the reduced power mode.

Check engine and trac off light on when starting vehicle. Noticed it would not accelerate much at 20mph (limp mode?), so i pulled over and called dealer service and took for diagnosis. Luckily not in heavy traffic or busy street, just neighborhood. Dealer repaired secondary air injection pump and valves for $2,000. Indicated not a normal repair. Internet search proved otherwise as its a extensive issue with prior models of toyota vehicles and 2012 tacoma's.

Driving on the street to work one morning, the trac off and check engine lights both suddenly appeared.i then noticed that my truck was not able to accelerate past ~40 mph.going uphill, my truck was limited to only ~20 mph.my truck went into this "safe mode."i connected an obd device and the came up with the following two codes: p2440 and p2442.the codes refer to "secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open" for banks 1 and 2, respectively.i did some further research on the codes, and it turns out this is a common issue on 2012 tacomas.apparently, the valve for the secondary air injection system is stuck open due to moisture and/or carb build up.i believe this is a design/engineering issue.part replacement costs ~$480 for each valve assembly.labor can range anywhere between $200-$500.if this is a known issue that is common to a lot of 2012 tacomas, then i believe toyota should be proactive such as releasing an official recall or even implement some type of reimbursement.note that my truck has ~80,000 miles on it.as an owner, i shouldn't suffer from an engineering design flaw and i shouldn't be financially responsible to repair/fix the issue.any assistance would be helpful.thank you and happy holidays!

The contact owns a 2012 tacoma. The contact stated that he added oil to the vehicle as directed by the owner's manual but the engine overflowed. The contact stated that the engine was overfilled by 19.2 oz. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that the information listed in the owner's manual was correct. Updated 6/17/14

Check engine and trac off lights came on. Vehicle acceleration became very sluggish. I felt the vehicle became a safety hazard as it had almost no acceleration . Merging into traffic became dangerous because of lack of acceleration. Had local shop check truck and error codes returned were p2440 and p2442 which they said indicated secondary air injector pump needs to be replaced. Est charge about $2000!

4.0l v6, dcsb, at, or package, 4x4, 41.5k miles, cel on, tcl on, limp mode on, codes p2440 p2442. References a secondary air pump valve issue. Truck was started in the morning, reversed out of driveway, cel, tcl, and limp mode activated when put into drive. Unable to reach safe operating speeds due to limp mode. Veh was on city street when codes triggered limp mode. Failure of poorly designed valves and system causes valves to remain stuck open allowing a larger than normal volume of exhaust fumes to recirculate to the intake through all operating ranges instead of just engine start up. Potential for engine failure and fire.

I was driving on a50mph highway an check engine light comes on and truck slows to 40mph wont go any faster.

The secondary injection pump went out.

Code p2442: secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open bank 2. This happened on a vehicle that does not tow, drive off road, and is in warm weather climate, austin, tx. My commute to work is 5 miles, each way.toyota says this is not covered under power train or emissions warranty. This is a $2,000 fix for a vehicle with only 59,000 miles.

Error code p2442 secondary air injection valve stuck open. Truck immediately goes into "limp' mode and will not accelerate over 20mph. Extremely unsafe to have the vehicle decelerate on a highway for a known issue that has prompted warranty extensions on toyota tundra's.

Secondary air injector system switching valve problem at 55000+ odometer

I have a 2012 toyota tacoma 4x4 sport double cab longbed with 28860 miles. I started the engine and noticed the "check engine" and "trac control" lights on in the cluster. As i was driving i noticed a lack of power it was in "limped mode". Made it to my mechanic who did a code check with reader, codes p2440 and p2442 shown which is secondary injection pump valve malfunction. The concerning aspect is that with such low milage this malfunction occurs that makes the truck go into limp mode which can be dangerous in any give situation on the highways. Toyota must really consider investigating this defect.

Secondary air injection valve quit working and put my truck into a 'limp mode.'during this time my speed was cut no more than 40 m.p.h.i was merging onto the highway at the time and it created a very unsafe condition.i started researching the issue and saw a ton of other people had the exact same issue.i'm sure toyota knew about it as well, because the mechanic at the dealership did.why didn't they put out an alert or recall??

Fault codes p2440 and p2442, powertrain - auxiliary emission controls. Air pump failing at 41,000 miles. Dealer repair cost is $1,900. Vehicle goes in to "limp mode" when started, that drastically reduces power.

This is a problem with the secondary air injection pump and solonoid...it left me stranded on the roadside...24000 miles on a truck is not even broke in..reliability?..i handled it..only because ive been a mechanic for 25 years...what if it was my wife and kids broke down in getto town...this is a huge problem for many and is so common..ive cleared the codes several times but they always reappear...this is a definate recall...make it so...24000 9n a truck and i cant drive it...my loyalty is fading fast...try to imagine driving your truck down a st.louis 6 lane freeway and your truck says...nope you staying here..on the side of the road...dont get out...youll get ran over...maybe toyota should have a display on the info center concole that tells you that...and then wishes you good luck...

I was leaving work and pulling onto the highway when i noticed my check engine light came on, as well as the trac off light. I went to pull into traffic and immediately realized that whatever was wrong put my truck into limp mode and had a 2500 rpm limit. This was a 60 mph highway and i couldn't go more than 35 mph. The traffic coming was immediately upon me and i had to pull over and put on my hazard lights as these vehicles had to slam on their brakes, honk, and swerve around me. I brought it into the dealership and they read code p2442. Which is for a stuck secondary air injection valve. They found water in the valves and they had to be replaced. Doing some research i found this is a very common issue in 2nd gen tacomas, mostly the 2012. This a very well known issue, especially to toyota, and they have so far done nothing about it. This led to a very dangerous near crash incident which i then had to pay over 1200 dollars to fix. This is completely unacceptable. Toyota must at least take ownership of their poorly designed parts and cover the replacement of these valves and pumps. This is happening all over the country on a consistent and persistent basis. Please make toyota address this, their customers deserve so much better.

Failure of the secondary air injection system p2440 and p2442, while the vehicle was moving onto a city street from a parking lot. When accelerating immediately there was a decrease in power and the check engine light along with the "trac off" light illuminating simultaneously. The vehicle has a now maximum speed of around 55 mph and extremely slow to accelerate being almost dangerous on busier roads. After being check out by a the dealer it was found to be the secondary air injection system which is covered by an extended warranty but parts are on back-order.

The check engine light and the trac off light came on as i was merging onto the interstate. I immediately stopped the vehicle, pulled over, and took my 2012 toyota tacoma with 78,000 miles to the mechanic where i left it overnight for them to look at it in the morning. The issues with the secondary air injection pump and switching valves seems most common between 50,000-80,000 miles, but eventually does happen in the 2012-2015 tocoma models.

Secondary air injection problems (valves and/or pump) causes a check engine light to come on, and puts the engine in "limp home" mode, without warning, which limits top speed to ~40mph.this is not only ridiculous, but dangerous, especially if it happens while on a freeway.the "limp home" mode persists until the code is cleared, by using an odb tool, or clearing the ecu by other means.this has happened to me 3 times where, with no warning, the truck suddenly lost power, and i had to find the nearest "safe spot" to get out of traffic and pull over.toyota has acknowledged this issue in a tsb, but provides no recall, despite this being a potentially dangerous situation when it happens.

The secondary air injection system went out

The secondary air injection pump failed at 62,000 miles. For specifics it showed the codes p2440 and p2442. This wasknown problem on the previous model tundras, the service mgr at rodland toyota said they had already replaced three pumps on trucks of the same year that week.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle lost power and then immediately regained power. The check engine warning indicator illuminated. The failure recurred twice. The contact coasted the vehicle to a service station, restarted it, and was able to drive. While depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would not accelerate past 25 mph. The vehicle was taken to toyota of poway (13631 power rd, poway, ca 92064) where it was diagnosed that the air system valve needed to be replaced. The contact was also informed that the air injection pump may eventually need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred to nhtsa. The approximate failure mileage was 133,472.

My 2012 tacoma with 45,000 miles got a check engine light and "trac off" light when i started it to go home.i was merging onto the interstate and unable to go above 40 mph.this was obviously not safe so i exited and took it to a dealer.they cited trouble codes p2440 and p2442 and said they needed to replace secondary air injection valve (pn 25710-31022) for a total cost of $940!according to forums and the nhtsa.gov site, this is a very common complaint with this year and model.i just bought this last july and i never expected to have to replace parts anytime soon.

Driving home from work on the freeway when the check engine light came on, then the engine started to slow down and would not go above 35 miles/hour on the freeway. Took to dealer and was told secondary air injection switching valve stuck open (bank 1 & 2) requiring replacement.

On my 2012 tacoma the code p2440 and p2442 which represent a stuck open valve in the secondary air injection system. Upon my research into this issue on forums i have learned this is a common problem with the toyota systems particularly the 2012 tacoma. The cost of the part is about 400 to 500 dollars for the valves and another 500 dollars for the secondary air injection pump. The failure will place the vehicle into a limp mode and has to be fixed in order to the truck to keep on good working condition. It seems like this error has affected many tacoma owners.

Secondary air injection system failure.if you look in line it is an epidemic with 2012around 50,000 miles.2000 $ repair. They don't cover.lost power at 75 on the highway and almost got killed.

Secondary air injection valve stuck open causing truck to enter "limp-mode" while commuting on congested freeway system. This presented a safety hazard to myself and my family trying to merge off the freeway through traffic without any power.

I was pulling out on to the highway and my truck failed to exceed 30 mph with oncoming traffic which nearly caused an accident.upon inspection by my toyota dealership, they explained that my secondary air injection valves were stuck open (p2440, p2442) which caused the truck to lose all power.i was then told that since i am no longer under warranty (my truck is only 5 years old with 48,000 miles on it) that toyota would not cover the 2,000 dollar cost to have the part replaced.upon further research, countless others were having the same issue.the toyota tundra also had this issue and an extended warranty was offered for those vehicles.since toyota knows this is an issue it is my belief that they should stand by their product and fix the defective part which is a huge safety issue as i found out.furthermore, there is no reason this emissions part should ever shut down the power to the truck while driving.thank you for your time.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. While driving 62 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle began to lose power. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced a limp home setting. The contact stated that he was aes certified. The contact stated that the tow hitch was in use when the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (fiore toyota volkswagen 1000 s. Logan blvd, holidaysburg, pa 16648)where it was diagnosed that the secondary air injectionswitching valve failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired by the contact. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

During normal driving, the check engine light and traction control off light came on and truck immediately went in to limp-home mode.i had it scanned for codes at the local auto parts store and it came back with p2440 and p2442 which seems like a common issue with a valve in the secondary air injection system.i quick google search showed that some 2012 tacoma owners are getting this covered under a special warranty extension, so i puttered over to the toyota dealership expecting to hear the same story, but they are telling me the ecm computer is bad.which i am trying to get clarification on since i can't find any ecm failure issues for this make and model year.

Engine code p2442 & p2440: secondary air injection system switching valve bank 2. Truck only has 40,000 miles on it. Dealer what $1800.00 to make repairs. Toyota has a problem with the part and they need to fix it. Nothing like having numerous failures and leaving the customer to pay for the poor engineered part.

I was on the the highway today and suddenly i lost power and won't pass speeds over 40 mph very dangerous have heard this happend to a lot of tacomas/ tundras and has to do something with the emissions i think i need a new diverter valve which toyota should cover

My check engine light came on and my vehicle entered "limp mode," which keeps the car under about 35mph and prevents it from accelerating quickly.the cel read as a secondary air intake system problem (p2440 and p2442).judging by the multitude of similar complaints i have found, this is a systemic problem that toyota refuses to rectify for tacomas but has already admitted to for tundras.this is a serious danger to drivers if the vehicle enters "limp mode" while they are driving through an intersection or in heavy traffic.it iseems also ridiculous for toyota to expect tacoma owners to spend thousands of dollars to fix their poorly designed part, especially considering the part is not vital to the performance of the engine.

Went on vacation to texas, stopped to gas up and when i went back on interstate i had a dramatic loss of power. Could not keep up enough speed to go speed limit. Air conditioner did not work. At destination a local told me about a repair shop. Cost me a hundred dollars to reset to factory specs. This has happened again four other times. I disconnected battery and reset myself. Now it`s a daily thing.

Great.

Air injection system failing putting truck into limp mode (codes p2442 and p2440) an unsafe driving condition. Common low mileage problem that is not covered by either federal emissions warranty or power train warranty.

Vehicle lunges when you come to complete stop, better hold the brake with some force any time stopped, toyota service says it happens all the time, its normal !!

While commuting to work the engine light and traction control light came on, causing my truck to slow down, very slow. It would not let me accelerate and disabled my progress to around 2000 rpms. This could have been a very serious or a dangerous situation especially if i was towing a load or in a major traffic situation.codes - 2440 and 2442 were the causes of this scary account.

The check engine light and trac off lights came on. The vehicle lost power and nearly did not make it up a hill. Codes were read at a local auto parts store indicating p2440 & p2442. Took it to the toyota dealer who confirmed the codes and indicated the secondary air injection valves were burned out and stuck open, requiring replacement. The parts were replaced at a significant cost to me. An internet search revealed that this condition is common to the 2012 toyota tacoma. A similar issue involving the toyota tundra was also discovered.

Check engine code- p2442. This has been a common issue with toyota suvs, and trucks!

Vehicle was in motion and check engine light came on. Car immeditely lost power.computer codes p2440 and p2442 indicated issues that would not effect normal operation of the vehicle- just emmision control issues. 98,000 mi. On vehicle when it occurred. Vehicle would not go over 40 mph.

Secondary air injection switching valve malfunction related to emissions.code p2440 & p2442,

57,000 miles on truck went into limp mode, p2440 and p2442 code showed secondary air injection valve dealer quoted $2000, said they wouldn't cover anything

Air pump and valves on the emission system failed.truck went into limp mode with limited acceleration and speed.this is a safety hazard.this is a common problem on 2012 tacoma.tundra and sequoia vehicles have had the same exact issue and repairs covered by toyota.however, toyota will not cover this same issue on the tacoma.

2012 toyota tacoma.the vehicle has codes p2440, p2441, p2442 relating to the secondary air injection system (sais) valves being stuck open/closed.this appears to be a common problem with 2012 tacoma vehicles and several years for tundra vehicles.for the tundra, toyota instituted a customer support program and extended the warranty coverage for the sais.with the vehicle having only 47,391 miles, it is outrageous that the sais would have issues or failures especially being a toyota.since the truck is in limp mode and not safe to drive, it will have to be towed to a dealership.between this issue and a noise and pulling periodically from the front differential/drivetrain, we are very disappointed in this vehicle.

75k miles. Cel light and trac off lights come on, truck goes into limp mode and will not accelerate past 2500 rpms, and will not reach speeds above 35 mph. Very very dangerous and endangers not only the trucks drivers, but other drivers on the road. This is due to a faulty diverter valve that is a known issue that toyota has issued recalls on for other models with the same problem.

As i read through the complaints on here, it seems most are for the same issue i have seen.as it is the biggest complaint item for 2012 tacoma on this website, and the fact that there is a recall on tundra for the same item, and that 2013 tacoma were redesigned to fix, this is clearly a known issue of a faulty part/design of the the air injection pump valve.it is unacceptable that nothing is done about this and the danger it poses.like the others, i got a check engine light/trac off one evening when i started my truck.my truck started up fine, and i didn't notice a problem until i tried to merge onto a 60 mph road.i tried to accelerate and merge but i almost caused a pile up as i could not accelerate beyond 35 mph.luckily, all i got was a bunch of honking.this is a very dangerous situation! after further research, i saw the codes p2440 and p2442 and understand it is a limp mode due to an emmisions item at startup.before being able to fix, i had to work a shift at my second job of ski patrol in the rocky mountains.as my truck obviously couldn't make it up the canyon, i was forced to borrow another car, and all i could get was a 2 wheel drive.there was a late season storm, and because i didn't have my 4x4 truck i got stuck overnight in the mountains.i survived, but twice because of this issue i was faced into a dangerous situation. I bought a new 4x4 for the very reason to avoiddangers like these.granted i have 65k miles now, but i don't expect a vehicle to have major problems like this.it is even worse to find out that it is a known issue and no one is doing anything about it.it is a disappointment that with a known issue toyota has not done something about this for the tacomas, but i am equally surprised that there are so many complaints and examples of dangerous situations and the nhtsa hasn't done anything either.

While driving the vehicle in a suburban area it lost power, slowing to 25 mph maximum, i was almost rear ended.i swerved off the road into the grass to avoid being hit. There is a problem with the emission system.it is the secondary air injection system.toyota has been aware of this problem for some time. Some of the 2012 toyota tacoma's have a customer support / warranty extension for this problem, not mine.

Tacoma went in "limp mode" engine light and trac off light illuminated; cause the car to be extremely under power. Vehicle extremely under power causing to be dangerous in traffic. Code p2442 secondary injection system failure; common to other toyota vehicles including tundra's.toyota acted resumable with tundra's with extending warranty repairing but at this time refuses to repair known failures in tacoma's.

Secondary air injection system (p2442).this hardware defect has been a recall for tundra but not for tacoma.the part is defective on most 2012 tacoma and very expensive to replace.there are safety issue as the vehicle unable to accelerate, but only able to limp. There are many discussions about this issue but toyota has not done anything about this.

My 2012 toyota tacoma first started throwing a p2442 error code and i had a mechanic clear it twice.now it is throwing a p2440 and p2442 error code.this is the secondary air injection system valve assembly.both bank 1 and bank 2 valves are stuck open.i called toyota corporate (1-800-331-4331) and filed a complaint after seeing all of the other 2012's with the same problem.they just want me to get it to a toyota dealership to read the code and then go from there.unfortunately i don't live near a dealership and they want to charge me for a diagnostic test that my local mechanic just performed.the truck is in limp mode with the check engine and trac off lights illuminated.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. After starting the vehicle, the check engine, traction control, and maintinence indicators remained illuminated. While driving, the vehicle would not accelerate past 25 mph. The vehicle was taken to autonation toyota in houston, texas where it was diagnosed that the engine air pump and air valve were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000.

Almost lost control of vehicle when the trucks performance jumped into limp mode "trac off" as i was driving. Loss of speed and performance caused me to be a driving hazard. 2 vendors today found the codes p2440 and p2442, which appear to have triggered my truck into "trac off" and "check engine" light on. Mode causes my truck to only drive about 45 significantly impacts performance and dangerous to drive. This is a safety hazard,i had no warning that the loss of performance was going to happen initially when i was traveling.there is another problem that appears to be on a larger scale.i have briefly scanned the internet in the last hour and spoke with various vendors about the problem & i have called my dealership & even the main toyota line and everyone is aware of the issue.the codes are p2440 & p2442.after finding out the codes i looked at the air injection pump & i was astonished to see that the pump was completely full of what, like someone literally took a waterhose & filled it up.logically, this is why the air injection switching valves 1 and 2 are both stuck open one code for each of the valves. The next thing that is unusual is that there are an incredible amount of people having this same problem but no recall..then i found the tundra recall for the exact same pump issue! it is peculiar, that a different model truck with the same pump has this problem & no recall or remedy.fact-tundra is a more expensive truck than tacoma, is toyota fixing public relation issues for those more well off because they know how to complain to the right folks or cause a big stir and they will hold off on pulling the trigger on a "warranty fix or recall" on the working mans tacoma?this is just an opinion but my intuition tells me this is intentional. The fix is approx $2000 i am stuck driving 45 mph till then with shady steering & performance.#accountability #me too

At aproximate 40 mph and at a constant speed the vehicle starts to shutter or shake, feels like it wants to down shift or up shift maybe its confused. Dealer could not duplicate 2 times

Engine/all power is lost when engine has reached a certain rpm. Code reader states "crankshaft position sensor "a" circuit malfunction".

Ecl code p2442, secondary air handler, epa part but toyota dealers won't cover under epa warranty.

Secondary air injection valve stuck open causing limp mode.happened near very dangerous intersection and lost all power in truck.as others have stated, truck only has 50k miles and required a $500+ repair (part only) for a component of the emission system which is only used on startup and includes a warranty of only 2 years.

Secondary air pump and switching valves failed on the highway with only 62,000 miles. Truck forced into limp mode and i was not able to travel over 20mph. The truck had a check engine light and trac control light appear. Toyota attempted to charge me over $2100 to fix. After reading about the error codes this is a common problem for all 2012 tacoma owners and toyota warranty refuses to cover any of the cost or recall the part (the same issue on toyota tundras was recalled).

As iwent from side road to main road, truckwould not accelerate to full speed even with foot on the pedal, indicators trac off and check enginewere lit. Went to mechanic and error codes p2440and p2442 indicated malfunction in secondary air injection system. Was told new air pump anddiverter valve required at cost of $2k.truck has less than 30k on it,but is 5 years old. Going into limp mode is dangerous as the main street is 55mph. Toyota statestundras have same issue that is now covered by 10 year/150k warranty, but nothing for tacoma owners. So i am quite angry with that as well. Have read online that many other owners are having same issues. Toyota should recall these defective pumps and valves in additionto disabling the limp mode as it is very dangerous.

2012 with only 24,900 miles and my vehicle has the same issue as the toyota tundra issue relating to secondary air injection pump. Dealer says it's not covered. The are an awful lot of people with the same problem on their tacoma's. It's no fair!

The engine check and trac off lights on when i drive on highway. The secondary air injection system failure the dealer checked, it will cost $2000 to fix it, it is only 69k miles and 5 years old vehicle. I could not accelerate the vehicle on highway and it suddenly slow down.

Check engine light came on, trac off light is on.my truck has no power and is unsafe to drive.the dtc is p2442.secondary air injection system switch valve stuck open bank 2.toyota knows they have a emissions issue.my vehicle is at the dealership now.

My truck's check engine light and trac off light came on and i took it to my local repair shop. The manager told me that after the level 1 diagnostic, a p2442 error code appeared (switching valve stuck). The valves, and air pump are part of the secondary air injection system which diverts some exhaust back into the engine to reduce emissions output. As part of the truck's emergency system, the truck limited the engine operation parameters to about 2000rpm, and about 40mph maximum. Express oil change and tire engineers quoted the parts at around $1500, not including labor. The day of diagnosis, the truck had 72,952 miles and was purchased nov. 2011. Currently unable to safely drive my truck in normal traffic.facing a nearly $2k bill, i decided to do some digging into emissions warranty information and found that those parts were not going to be covered by the 8yr/80,000 mile federal emission control warranty as outlined in my warranty and maintenance guide, even though these are a critical part of the system. While online, i read several posts on tacomaworld.com where several others were having the same issues. What was more concerning was that this very same issue was very common in toyota tundra not long ago and the manufacturer extended their warranties to cover the costs because it would appear to be a manufacturer defect. Now, the very same thing is happening with tacoma but the extended warranty has not been extended to my truck.the service lights have since come back on and the truck is not drivable, i have yet to get a hold of toyota but because of the holiday, i will have to wait until the morning but not expecting much. Who will pay for my rental car while i'm paying this bill?https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/secondary-air-injection-system-p2440-and-p2442.370792/http://www.tundraheadquarters.com/blog/toyota-warranties-air-injection-pump/

I got the engine lights on in the morning starting the truck on nov 3, and truck went into limp mode. Got it home and let it sit for a bit and then it seemed to be okay accelerating but the engine lights were still on. Took it to toyota and was reading the dreaded p2442 secondary air injection system code. They cleared the code and drove it around; cleared again they deemed it okay and charged me $60 for the code read. Leave to drive to work again this morning and bam, the lights back on and the thing is back into limp mode with barely any power to the engine. Had to drive this truck in this unsafe condition back to my house. I read so much online about how many people are affected with this same defective part and toyota quoted me $2300 cad + 13% tax to fix it and replace the secondary air injection pump/valve. Not covered under any warranty nor my extra care protection plan i paid for.

39k miles throws codes relating to secondary air injection pump. $2100 quote to fix.many other owners with the same problem

Check engine light and trac off light came on and next thing the car would not accelerate properly while pulling out on to a highway heading up hill i had no power. Fortunately i was not killed by the 50 plus mile per hour traffic. After making down the highway was able to get into a pep boys where they coded the secondary air system. This is a serious issue that could have killed me or someone else. I plan to contact an attorney after finding out they only cover their most expensive vehicles with they exact same system. I guess 35k on a truck wasn't enough. The part cost me $770 dollars and i'm not sure if its safe because i had to do job myself because i could not afford $2000.00 for 2 hours work.

Bought truck new in 2012 and maintained 100% recommended maintenance at dealer.at 64,500 mileage, check engine light came on while driving, and we drove truck straight to dealer service garage.dealer determined secondary air injection pump had contaminated with water, resulting in rust in system (valves also). Replaced pump and valve assembly and gasket.service advisor said the same parts were used and recalled in response to reports of air induction pump assemblies and/or air injection switching valves issues on their 2007-2010 tundra and 2008-2010 sequoia models, toyota has decided to increase its warranty on these parts and is even offering a reimbursement if you already had this issue fixed.tacoma's need to be included in the recall reimbursement!when we asked about how to prevent future issues, service tech informed us the part has been "re-designed" to prevent the problem from re-occurring.total bill from dealer was $1968.29.this vehicle has never been off road, never been in flood conditions, and is a commuter vehicle on paved roads.

The check eng & trac off light came on while i was on the interstate and almost got struck from the vehicle behind me.my truck went into limp mode & slowed down to 2500 rpms & wouldn't go any faster than 25 mph!!this is a hazard as i have read other complaints about this happening to others, it is a known issue to toyota, they have repaired the tundra's but so far am not showing any recall on the tacoma's.error p2442 secondary air injector failure.this is the 2nd time this has happened to me.scary!please beware 2012 tacoma owners!merry christmas to me!$2000 repair!

Secondary air injection switching valve failure stuck in open position causing limp mode in the truck. Truck is not able to get to speed above 40 mph. This happened as i was pulling out of my neighborhood onto a state route with speed limit of 55 mph and cars going way faster than that. This could pose a danger if situations where speed it required to get out of the way of another car. Truck only has 57k miles on it. This is a supplemental emissions system and should not cause the truck to be useless if fail.

June 1st 2021i went to park in a parking space at a local mall. My truck instead of stopping it accelerated out of control jumped two stone curbs, drove though a fence and landed into a swamp. Call toyota and they have opened a new case # 210602000065. Police report # 21-374-ac. This isn't the first time that this has happen with this truck. It happen in aug 2019. I contacted toyota case number 1908060035.they sent out eaa engineering analysis ass. Out who did a acm.cdrx file a month later.toyota came back said they couldn't find anything wrong and my case was closed. Another incident in winter of 2016 where my truck was stopped and it accelerated on its own and it drove in the 4 way intersection where it caused an accident. Lots of damage to cars. Toyota was contacted and they sent me to a dealer for repairs. Dealership has records of my truck coming in since i owned it with complaints of truck not moving at all to all of sudden to acceleration on its own.

Driving vehicle and all of a sudden engine looses power. Truck did not die and would slowly accelerate. I had traffic behind me honking and cutting me off until i could get to a pull off spot. I had the vehicle towed to a mechanic and discovered the secondary air pump and valves were the cause causing the lots of acceleration. This is a very dangerous and known issue for toyota owners after researching. I do have repair receipt which is very costly

Oem parts failure due to manufacturers defect.this exact issue prompted recall of the toyota tundra.dealership reports numerous customers with same issue. Repair is over $2,000. This is serious issue. Air injection pumps and switching valves are faulty allowing water into the system and causing the engine to seize up and decrease engine speed.this happened on i-90 in heavy traffic causing other motorists to apply breaks quickly. Contacted toyota and they are aware of the issue but have no plans to initiate a recall.

Codes p2440 & p2442these are for the air injection system on start up. The valves fail and this is a emissions part. Out of warranty and only have 65,000 miles. Tundra had this issue and got a 10 year warranty on the components.

Air valves in emission system went bad, was reduced to driving 35mph in heavy traffic, very unsafe. Was quoted $2500 in repairs for repairs resulting from faulty design. Reports rampant on the internet of this part failing. Tpyota fixed the issue on later model tacomas and recalled tundras with the same issue but have ignored this make/model/year.

Secondary air intake system failed during start up. The vehicle is drivable but dangerous cel is on and computer limits the vehicles power.this is related to emissions.the vehicle was 8 days out of warranty with 39500k miles.this system has been a problem in other toyota vehicles including the 2012 v6 tacoma.cost of repair estimated at $1950.00

Secondary air injection system failure.failure codes of p2440 and 2442 occurred during highway driving, causing vehicle to go into limp mode. The vehicle at this point was unsafe to drive due to limited throttle control.research has shown this is a very common problem with 2012 tacoma trucks.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle seized and the speed decreased to 20 mph. The vehicle stalled in the middle of the highway. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacurer was not notified of th failure. The failure mileage was 68,000. The vin was not availiable.

Cil and trac illumination with codes p2440 and p2442 caused the engine to go to limp mode with loss of power

I brought truck to toyota dealership as part of rusted frame recall to be verified.they stated truck was not rusted enough underneath for toyota to approve recall.that was a couple of months ago.i have recently brought it to a few mechanics to do some work on a/c as the a/c stopped working andthat refuse to work on it as the truck is so rusted underneath!!they said it would crumble. Not even worth it.

Emissions air pump valve went out with 60,200 miles on the truck. The truck is bone stock and has been very well maintained. After research its seems that numerous people are having issues with this same exact part on the 2012 tacomas. Toyota extended a recall on the tundra's because of this part, but not the tacomas. The truck is currently in limp mode and will not go past 40mph, and the dealer wants $1,075 to fix it. This occurred on my way to work this morning while getting on the freeway, and was quite scary to not be able to go over 40mph on a bay area freeway with cars honking and flying past me.

Known issue with the secondary air valve. Throws the code p2442 vehicle goes into safe mode. Dealerships want about $2,000 to fix it. Recommending the fan-blower as will to double the amount. This is known issue from all that i have read and the dealership that i purchased it from in va last year didn't mention this at all or offer any kind of warranty to cover potential issues.

I start up the truck and pull out in to the street. Whether at an intersection or making a turn, i push on the accelerator and nothing happens. The rpms don't increase, engine makes no sound - and i am left sitting in the middle of the road. I push the accelerator to the floor and eventually the engine comes to life and the truck moves forward. Happens more often than not when the vehicle is "cold" - within the first 20-30 minutes of operation. The accelerator is not linked directly to the engine through a cable but is a drive by wire. I have maintained my tacoma meticulously since purchase including tune ups, oil changes, etc. I have cleaned the mass air flow sensor with no change. The problem still persists. It is very dangerous to be in the middle of an intersection with a vehicle that has lost power.

Recently i was driving my 2012 toyota tacoma on the highway at a sustained speed of 70 mph.a check engine light came on and my car instantly dropped in speed to less than 40 mph while in fast moving traffic.i was almost rear ended by a large truck and was forced to cross multiple lanes of traffic to get to the berm and ascertain the situation.as i could find no issues upon inspection, i precariously drove the vehicle to a service store to read the error codes.the vehicle showed p2440 p2442 error codes indicating secondary air injection failures.apparently, the vehicle went into limp mode upon throwing these codes which limits speed and engine rpm.this almost caused a huge accident and put me into a a very dangerous situation.additionally upon researching these issues, it seems this is a well documented issue caused by manufacturing defects isolated to the 2012 model year.apparently, the system is defective in multiple ways.first, a piece of foam is inside the secondary air pump which degrades and is sucked into the fan which not only causes stoppage and burning out the fan motor but also allows for stinky residue and debris to enter the valves causing them to jam open or closed.additionally, the system allows moisture to be sucked into the valves adding to corrosion and degradation of the valves leading to them to be stuck.this is a roughly 1500.00-2000.00 repair.it is a quite frequent problem with this model yet is not covered under recall or service bulletin.toyota has acknowledged the issue yet not taken any action.additionally, they have had similar problems with the tundra/sequoia and offered remedy to owners via extended warranty.this is not only a quality control issue but more importantly a severe safety issue with the automatic reduction to a slow speed in fast heavy traffic.

Replacement air injection valves and pumps for secondary emissions control system. Toyota wants 2200 for an issue they are aware of and have already released service bulletins for on the tundra and sequoias. Engine codes p2442 and p2446. When the codes are thrown the car is put into limp mode and decelerates to 35 mph, even though this is a non-essential emissions system.

While on a road trip i had my check engine light come on while on the highway due to defective secondary injection valves being stuck closed/open. The codes i had for this issue is p2440 and p2442. In my case this issue made my truck go into limp mode which is often a loss of power in the engine and sometimes a restriction in one's ability to shift the truck. Luckily the highway was not busy at the time this happened, but if it were i would believe that it would be a very unsafe thing to happen going 70 mph. The parts do have an extended warranty until 2022 if i remember right, but it seems like toyota is not interested in recalling these parts even after they have known for many years that these parts are defective. I have done quite a bit of research and found issues with these parts going back to 2013.

At less then 50k miles on the odometer and 900 miles from home my truck decided to get a check engine light and trac off light caused by codes p2440 and p2442 and p2445.merry christmas to me.these codes put me into limp mode while on the freeway in snowy and icy conditions. I could not maintain speed with the flow of traffic as i was trying to get to the shoulder with traffic zooming all around me,dangerous and scary!toyota wants $2000 to repair it.internet research has shown me that it is a common problem that toyota fails to recognize for tacomas but has issued a tsb and extended warranties for tundras.shame on toyota.now i get to endure the cost of repair after the holiday seasons and i'm sure my boss will love to hear i wont be returning to work on time.

Secondary air injection valve failure at 53k miles, toyota would not cover under my power train or emission warranty.truck was put into limp mode when the failure happenned and was undrivable.

While driving on a city street the check engine light and trac off light illuminated and truck would not go over 25 mph. Brought directly to mechanic that found diagnostic trouble code p2442 - secondary air injection system malfunction. At 61k miles this faulty part was not covered under any warranty. The part cost alone was $1321 and then add tax and labor for a total of $1709! so disgusted with toyota for not taking accountability for this faulty product.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. While driving various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to accelerate. Also, the traction control and check engine warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the secondary air injection valve failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.

Driving at 55 mph, check engine light came on and vehicle went into limp mode.decrease in speed and power.mechanic computer showed fault codes 2440 and 2442. Secondary air injection pump and valves failure.through research hundreds of tacoma owners are having same problem.faulty manufacturers part causing vehicles to go into limp mode.

After starting tacoma, check engine light and "trac off" light came on, went into limp mode, could only go 30mph.tacoma just hit 34,000 miles.dealership stated secondary air injection valve stuck closed bank 1 (code p2441).was told pump and valves needed to be replaced at $2100, including labor.called toyota corporate, told it was not covered under power train or emissions warranty.this issue actually first occurred approximately 4 months ago while driving on a city street.warning light came on and went into limp mode.pulled into a firestone and they said it was also code p2441.they reset it and it didn't happen again until a few days ago.this time the code would not reset, warning light won't turn off and remains in limp mode.

After driving for 2 hours at highway speed (65) mphi exited the highway to a intersectionwith a red light. Upon applying the brakesto come to a stop the vehicle accelerated forward on its own. I was only able to stop a collision by putting the truck into neutral . I could not stop the vehicle by only using the brakes.the engine overrevolutions but came back to a idle in just a few seconds. I have not experiencedthis in the past two years that i haveowned this vehicle. I was not towing anything and the vehicle was not loaded with any additional weight.i am the only driver. I continued on with my trip and have not experienced this again as of this date. 02/20/2014

Two dashboard lights illuminated at the same time: the check engine light and the trac off light. At first i really didn't notice much of a difference but after 2 days i experienced significant power loss. I would pull out into traffic ok until about 20mph then have no power. It crawled while trying to get up to speed. I read on the internet that if you disconnect the battery and open the gas cap the lights would go out and the problem would go away. I did this and it worked; or so i thought. I then left for an hour trip (i know dumb) and within 15 mins the lights came back on and i couldn't get the truck over 60mph on a major highway. I actually stopped at a rest stop and disconnected the battery and removed the gas cap. Again this shut off the lights but only for about 5 mins. Then the power loss was back.took to my local mechanic who i trust and he said it was a known problem that was something called a technical service bulletin but not yet a recall.apparently the tundra and sequoia are recalled for this problem but not the tacoma.i don't get it.i was told to keep my receipts ($1,870.68) right after christmas thank you, and hopefully one day get reimbursed if it becomes a recall.i can only hope this is a no interest investment into my future.

Vacumme switching valve and air injection pump failure at 43,000 miles, cost to repair is $2052.32. This part is part of the emission control system and should be covered by toyota but is not. When this valve throws a check engine light the truck goes into limp mode and is very dangerous to drive as it has reduced power.

Secondary air pump and valve failure. Second time in 1 year.

At 60,000 miles check engine light and trac off lights come on when starting up truck in morning.this put the truck into limp mode.my mechanic cleared the codes but did not want to get involved in repairing as he couldn't guarantee it wouldn't happen again down the road and said toyota will not warranty the replacement parts.dealer advised approximately $2,000 to repair.after seeing all the other complaints from 2012 tacoma owners, i can not believe toyota will not cover this under a recall since they covered the exact same problem with the tundra and sequoia.

Having trouble with my vehicles secondary air injection system, replacement parts are super expensive and have seen many people have the same issue, seems like a non-reliable component. Always get the fault codes p2440 and p2442. I strongly beleive that this is a defective component.

I leftthe gym yesterday and the truck had no power and would not accelerate, i almost got t-boned pulling into traffic. I looked down and the check engine light was on as well as the traction control light. Ran by autozone and had them scan the obd and it showed p2442 error code. I took it by the dealer this morning and they say both by-pass valves are gone as well as the air injection pump. Estimate was $1,798. This is a 2012 model as seems to be the norm with this failure. But with only 35k miles. I told them this was ridiculous for this to happen on this model with this low of a mileage and that this should be covered under warranty. The service rep said it wasn't and her hands were tied. I talked to the service manager as well as the gm. So far toyota has refused to resolve this issue in a fair manner. This is a know problem by toyota on the 2012 model tacoma's. They are having the same issue on the tundra trucks and are covering these parts under a 150,000 mile extended warranty. There are many reports of this same failure with the tacoma's but toyota so far is refusing to address this issue. When this failure does occur the vehicles go into "limp" mode. This can be very dangerous if unexpectedly you loose power or speed while merging, pulling into traffic or on the freeway.

My 2012 toyota tacomacheck engine and traction control light came on. Truckwent in limp mode, whichwas very unsafe. Took my truck to auto zone to have the codes read. My truck code was p2442. Air injection system switch valve stuck open. This is a known issue to toyota tundra trucks but not for the tacoma.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. After the vehicle was started, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the secondary air injection valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000. The vin was not provided.

Air injection pump and diverter valve assembly failed causing vehicle to enter limp mode.vehicle was moving at low speed from a fresh start up. Toyota has recognized the issue on the tundra truck and extended150k mile warranty on the part.they have not extended the same consideration on the tacoma.based on research and discussion with dealer it is a known issue on the 2012 tacoma.cost to repair i was $1484.14.

Secondary air injection system switching valveerror code p2440 and p2442truck is now in limp mode and undriveable

2012 tacoma with 24k miles. Check engine light and trc light came on with truck in limp mode when i started it to go to work. Codes p0412 p2433 p2438 p2442. Toyota wont cover this and its a defect in many many 2012 tacomas.

Code p2440 and p2442.air injection system valves are stuck open (related to emissions control unit) which causes the vehicle to go into 'limp' mode abrupbtly. This renders the vehicle undriveable, and can occur in the midst of driving causing serious danger to the driver and fellow drivers on the road.toyota is unwilling to cover under any powertrain or emissions warranty.this issue is pervasive among 2012 tacoma owners and toyota redesigned the system as early as 2013 which implicates their knowledge of such a defect.

2012 tacoma with 91,000 miles: while leaving work and trying to accelerate onto highway the "check engine" and "trac off" lights illuminated. Vehicle went into "limp mode" and would not go faster than 35 mph. I had to quickly pull off the road as to not cause an accident.i took vehicle to mac haik toyota and received the code p2445. I had to replace air switch valve assembly $690, air w/bra pump assembly $813, air tube gaskets $132, labor $610. Total $2063!!!!from researching, this is a known problem with 2012 tacomas, and had previously been an issue with older tundras, which toyota issued a tsb for. Toyota refuses to repair this under warranty (federal emissions) even though the failed part is directly tied to the emissions system! "the system is used to pump additional air into the exhaust manifold upon startup to dilute the over-rich conditions that lead to increased pollution. (how is that not an emissions related part?) the failure or warping of the one-way check valve causes hot exhaust gases to backflow into the solenoid, and melting the gaskets. This ends up blocking the sealing plate and causing it to remain in the open position. The danger is that the hot exhaust is then fed into a plastic air pump causing it to potentially melt or catch fire!" the fact that this forces the vehicle into "limp mode" is also a huge safety concern as it will not allow the vehicle to travel above 35 mph and could lead to serious accidents if traveling at high speed on the interstate or highway due to the unexpected, sudden deceleration. Failed assembly is toyota part number : 25710-31020. This part number has been superseded by p/n: 25710-31022.

Headed to work to find check engine light illuminated. Truck has less than 41,000 miles. Went to autozone, code reader provided p2442 and p2440 errors related to the secondary air injection system valves. Followed up with local toyota dealer. Dealer ran diagnostic and found secondary air injection system valves stuck open in banks 1 and 2. Dealer wants to replace parts 17600-0p040: pump assembly; 25710-31022: valve assembly; and the 4 related gaskets, part 17377-31010. Quote was for almost $2400. Again, the vehicle is 2012, less than 41k miles!researching the tacoma forums online, this appears to be a common problem with this generation model and more even more so with 2012's. One of the dealer's service advisors informed me that this is also a common problem with tundras.furthermore, while driving, the vehicle would go in and out of "limp mode" and i had no warning as to when it would or would not be in this mode, other than by the way the vehicle was handling. Limp mode would only allow transmission to shift into 2nd or 3rd and no more than 30 mph, less if climbing an incline. At other times, vehicle would drive normally. The switching in and out of this protective mode seems particularly dangerous.

The truck started to make a rattling noise under the hood on the drivers side when reaching 15mph. Took it to dealer to have it examined. They said to try different gas not cheap gas. "i was already using shell gas" but i did what they said. Still making the noise now from 20-40mph. Take it back to dealer now they take a test drive with myself to verify the noise. Comes back that it has a tas case# there's nothing they can do about it. I call to file a complaint to find out there is no repair and they will not touch it till it becomes a recall. Just took it back for the third time because the rattling is louder and longer. Still did nothing. The rattlingcan get so loud that it sounds like something is going to fall out from under the hood.

Paint problems on all four doors flaking off .recieving a notice for my camary but not the tacoma, both colors were listed.

The brakes are real touchy after it rains or really high humid days. I found moisture in the license plate maker lights and housings were full of water. After cleaning it out the brakes seem to work normal again. It seems that the lights do not have to operate switched on , for this situation to occur.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the driver's side headlight failed to illuminate properly and the light was distorted. The vehicle was taken the dealer for diagnosis. The dealer stated that there was no defect with the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 10.

Fuel pump can be heard operating at times, usually after several hours of being parked. Slight grinding noise was also heard associated with the fuel pump. Service department at dealer, stated could not duplicate and considered the matter closed.

Only 49,000 miles on my $32,000 truck and like many other owners of 2012 tacomas i have the check engine light come on with the trac off light and giving the diagnostic code of p2442 secondary air injection switching valve.this is clearly a emissions and manufacturing problem with this year and toyota should have to foot the bill instead of charging us $2,100 for a fix a a practically new expensive truck.the air injection valve is part of emissions and should be covered and a tsb or recall should be issued for this.when this valve goes out typically every 50,000 it renders your truck useless and puts it into safe mode not allowing you to go more than 35-40 mph.needless to say this speed just doesn't work on the highway to travel to work and unless you fork over the $2,100 to have it fixed then you have to find another way to work.this is such a scam on toyotas part and i am outraged that after purchasing over 4 toyota vehicles from them they don't stand by their product to fix the problem.

The air injection pump went out and had to be replaced, and there is only 18,200 miles on the vehicle.the check engine light came on while driving, and i was able to drive the vehicle to the dealership before "safe mode" kicked in.toyota was able to replace the defective part.i understand from reading on the internet that this is turning out to be a common problem for this vehicle, and wish to add my experience to the list.

I start up the truck and pull out in to the street. Whether at an intersection or making a turn, i push on the accelerator and nothing happens. The rpms don't increase, engine makes no sound - and i am left sitting in the middle of the road. It is very dangerous to be in the middle of an intersection with a vehicle that has lost power.

About 2 weeks ago my truck was hesitating and my check engine/off trac light was on. The car would not go above 40mph on city streets or highway. I went to a toyota dealer in puerto rico, they said the codes were p0052, p0456, p2140, p2442 secondary air injection system is bad and would cost $2,458.08 for repairs. I don't know if it is covered by any warranty. It is a 2012 toyota tacoma pre-runner.

My tacoma tends to surge forward when it is stopped. I do not think it has anything to do with the air conditioner being on.i had the a/c off the first time. If someone isn't on the brake firmly they may tap the vehicle in front of them.

Secondary air injection valve stuck open causing truck to enter "limp-mode" while commuting on congested freeway system. This presented a safety hazard to myself and my family trying to merge off the freeway through traffic without any power.

Secondary air pump failed at 47,000 miles, shortly after warranty expired. It failed as i was pulling out onto a major fast-moving highway and promptly went into "limp" mode, limiting acceleration. It took over a half mile to get the vehicle to 40 mph. Meanwhile, vehicles behind me were braking abruptly to avoid colliding with me. As i understand it the secondary air pump is part of the emission control system and i don't believe that this should effect the performance of the engine in this manner. This seems more like a software induced failure, which, in this case, caused a potentially dangerous situation.after some back and forth toyota agreed to refund me 1/2 of the $2500 that i was charged for the repair. Upon searching the internet, i found dozens of instances of this failure on 2012 tacoma's with similar mileage.

Secondary air injection systemcode p2440 and p 2442

While driving on the freeway my vehicle lost partial power to the engine. I took it to the service center and they ran a diagnostic saying that i have a "failed engine air system pump and valve." it was very dangerous loosing control of the speed of the vehicle on the freeway.

My tacoma tends to surge forward when it is stopped.i think it has something to do with the air conditioner being on.if someone isn't on the brake firmly they may tap the vehicle in front of them.

Fuel system can be heard hours afterthe truck is parked, few times a week and sometimes daily .and runs 2 to 15 minutes.contacted dealer and says it normal for fuel evap to do a system check. Ongoing started before 3000 miles

Vehicle lost power while on the highway, immediately reduced speed to around 40 mph. The "trac off" indicator light came on and the truckwent into "limp mode", so i was able to take the next exit and i took it to the auto part store for a code reader.p2440/ p2442 came up in error, secondary air injection system stuck open. This was an 800$ part from the dealership and i did the work.. Toyota tacoma 4x42012 sr5 v6 4.0l59,965 miles

Check engine light on, trac off light on, engine power weakcheck engine code- p2441. This has been a common issue with toyota suvs, and trucks! car is put into limp mode. Extended warranty on tundra with same part problem. Not tacoma. Shameful and dangerous for tacoma owners.

2012 toyota tacoma w 47k miles 4 yrs old.bought brand new from toyota. I was driving the vehicle to work and check engine light and trac off both came on. Attempted to accelerate up a hill over a bridge and could not go beyond 20 mph with accelerator all the way down!. Vehicles speeding up on me, pulled off into emergency lane. Vehicle towed and brought to dealership where they told me a 'bank 1 secondary air injection switching valve' needs to be replaced at about $900. Not covered under warranty or a recall. Research on internet shows that this is a common and dangerous problem for this year make and model.toyota cc called with report filed. Something needs to be done before there is a serious injury or mortality due to the vehicle not being able to accelerate in a vulnerable position.

Secondary air valve sticks causing loss of power,,emission system while driving and stays on.

Error code p2442 secondary air injection valve stuck open. Truck immediately goes into "limp' mode and will not accelerate over 20mph. Extremely unsafe to have the vehicle decelerate on a highway for a known issue that has prompted warranty extensions on toyota tundra's.

Vehicle stumbled and engine almost died while making a turn in front of incoming traffic with my one year old daughter in the truck. Mil on with code p2442 reported, secondary air injection malfunction. This 2012 tacoma is toyota certified with 34,216 miles, spoke with multiple toyota representatives and all have stated this is not a warrantied item. This malfunction is common on other toyota trucks which have extended warranties on the same emission component in question. This problem is both a safety hazard and an emissions hazard. It needs to be addressed.

Code p2443 valve stuck closed came up when my "trac and cel" lights came up on the dash. This happened on startup. This code is a failure of the secondary air injection switching valve stuck closed. This condition can lead to lost power when driving called a "limp mode" and is occurring on toyota tacoma"s at around the 50k mile mark as i have found on the tacoma world website. This issue has also been noted on the toyota tundra as well and a tsb has been issued to fix this problem but not for the tacoma. I have noted that my power has diminished since the lights came on (3 days). I checked with my toyota dealer and they say they have no history of this happening. Tacoma owners say this issue is well known and toyota is failing to address a fix. The loss of power can occur anytime and if it happens on a busy interstate or highway can result in accidents.

Check engine and trac off indicator lights came in, and vehicle went into fail code mode also known as"limp mode" while driving down a town road. Vehicle was unable to accelerate above 40 mph. Managed to get vehicle to dealership, was told the problem was a "secondary air pump and valve". Vehicle has 56,700 miles on it. Toyota was contacted and a complaint was filed, but they would not acknowledge a fault in the part in this model vehicle. Toyota tundras have had the same issue and toyota provided a fix for this model. When asked if the replacement part would fail in 50,000 miles i was told that the new part was "updated" so it shouldn't have the same issue. Why did toyota allegedly update the replacement part if there was no faults in the original part?

Switching valve stuck open bank 1 and 2. Truck is in limp mode. Air pump is full of water.

'takata recall' secondary air injection pump secondary air switching valves limp mode don't go over 40 crude controls doesn't work

Secondary air injection system failure.if you look in line it is an epidemic with 2012around 50,000 miles.2000 $ repair. They don't cover.lost power at 75 on the highway and almost got killed.

Toyota has a known issue of the secondary air injection switching valve that is faulty that causes the 2012 tacoma to go into "limp mode" expectantly. I was getting on the freeway and the truck cut out down to 25 mph while traffic was rapidly approaching almost causing an accident.the engine codes shown are the typical p2440 and p2442 and has been reported numerous times. Please prompt toyota to recall this part to avoid unfortunate accidents or death due to a known issue.

Secondary air injector failure. Valves stuck open. Check engine codes p2442 and p2440. Vehicle in motion driving 70 mph on the interstate. Just bought yesterday with 47k miles.failure causes vehicle to 'limp'.can't exceed 2500 rpms very easily, massive loss of power.

2012 tacoma with 24k miles. Check engine light and trc light came on with truck in limp mode when i started it to go to work. Codes p0412 p2433 p2438 p2442. Toyota wont cover this and its a defect in many many 2012 tacomas.

Trac off and cel on, truck goes into 'limp mode' and decelerates when gas allpied. Loud whining noise when first starting.

I took my 2012 tacoma into service today with a trac off and check engine light on. I was told that the secondary air injection switching valve needed replaced at the tune of $1300. I see that many others have had this issue and with 37k miles, i find it unreal that this isn't covered under the powertrain warranty.

Secondary air injection error codes p2440, p2441,p2442. Loss of power due to air injector stuck. Vehicle will not accelerate beyond 20-30 mph. This is an emmsisions requirement but warranties on tacomas will not cover beyond 3yrs/35k miles. Tundras have tundras have same known issues and toyota incrwased warranty to 10 yrs/150k miles. Sudden loss of power is also a safety issue while driving on highways. Owners are paying thousands in repairs for something that should be covered under warranty.

Today leaving work my truck went into complete limp mode. Turned around and thankfully i work at a dealership not a toyota one though. I got the codes that popped up checked and it was the codes for the air injection pump and flaps. I called toyota and they said this is common in the my truck and i am right outside my coverage for it. It ends at 150,000 and i have 163. I have to drive this truck back and forth on the interstate and if this is a common problem why would y'all put a cutoff on the problem. Why is this not a recall. I bought my truck 2nd hand so i had no idea of this problem.

The trac off and check engine lights came on yesterday and i was unable to accelerate over 40mph. I ran a diagnotics test on it and it came back p2440 and p2442 which is the secondary air injection system failure. One of the valves is stuck open.

When accelerating the truck lost all power and acceleration. Engine light is on. Engine will not increase rpm when accelerator is pressed. Truck will slowly drive but is unsafe to be on the road as it slowly accelerates up to 20-30mph max.vehicle was merging into traffic from parking lot access.

Cold start of the vehicle was followed by a high pitched whine and then the check engine light and 'trac off' lights illuminated. Diagnostic check revealed faulty secondary air pump and switching valve. This problem has been acknowledged by toyota for the tundra and the sequoia, but they continue to play dumb on this model year tacoma. A cursory search of the internet reveals this is a widespread problem in the 2012 truck. There are dozens of reports of vehicles failing to accelerate, which is obviously a cause for concern, and the $2000 recommended fix is being done with the same improperly engineered parts.

I'm a owner of tacoma pre-runner 2012. I recently took my car to scan since i had the check engine light on. Attached i send you the codes and i also include the fact sheet delivered to me at the service center. I want to know if this is covered by any warranty.

The secondary air injection system went out

Check engine light and trac off light came on. Truck went into "limp" mode and would only go about 35mph. Checked the error code and it was p2442 which says the secondary air injection system is failing. Truck has only 55k miles on it and has been regularly maintained by toyota dealerships every 6 months / 5k miles. Dealership has said it will be $2023 to replace the system. There should be a recall or extended warranty on this injection system

My check engine light came on and i had no acceleration beyond 20 mph. I took it for a diagnosis at auto zone and they told me it was codes ,2450 and 2442, secondary air valves stuck open. I am stuck in an unfamiliar city and no mechanics with time to fix it, to say nothing of me not having the funds to pay for the repair. The light came on when i was turning a corner on a hill. I understand this has become a very common problem for toyotas and i would have expected a recall notice so that toyota would fix the problem! i have no way of getting home as part of my drive is thru a very steep and treacherous canyon.

Secondary air injection system truck would not accelerate and lost power. I've noticed it has done this since new. I now have 37,000 miles on it and have received messages check engine light and trac off messages. This is very dangerous as you have no engine power when entering into traffic. The truck will not go over 35 miles an hour and takes for ever to gain speed.

Secondary air injection system: started the vehicle and check engine light came on. Obd read p2440/p2442. While driving uphill on a very busy highway, the vehicle loss power and would not go faster than 20mph and the rpm's rammed up. After some some research found out this is a common problem with the tacoma in which toyota was aware of.

Check engine light on, trac off light on, engine power weak

While on highway doing 65mph, vehicle slowed to 50, to 40, to 30, to 20 by itself. Pulled over, placed back into gear, vehicle only went 40 mph downhill, 20 mph uphill. Drove to toyota dealer who said this was third tacoma this week with faulty second air fuel injector. No recall yet, but 3 weeks for back order of part. 43 others before my part request. Same part on recall for tundra model. Safety was compromised on highway because of automatic deceleration

Like many others, my 2012 tacoma suddenly lost power on the hiway.refused to go above 40 or so mph.other cars had to slam on brakes to avoid me.took it to the dealer and they wanted nearly $2000.00 to replace the same parts that have been identified in the tundras as being defective.secondary air injection stuck open.the codes are p2440 and p2442.this is a safety hazard as the vehicle suddenly loses power.toyota issued a tsb and extended the warranty to 150k for the tundra but not the tacoma.same parts!my tacoma was in motion when suddenly lost power.this is a safety issue.check out carcomplaints.com

3-5-2013 tacoma 2012 trd 4x4 automatic new, i noticed a vibration on acceleration in 1st gear through 2nd gear in the first few days of purchase. However, because of my job travel and just being lazy i never discussed this issue until recently. The 1st time i brought it to my dealer was 31 jan 2013 13,433 mi. The dealer acknowledged the vibration and said toyota will attempt to fix this problem with a three tier fix. 1. They ordered engine mounts per tsb.2. Feb 2013 i brought the vehicle back they installed the mounts, did not fix the problem.as part of this tier fix, while in for repair they also replaced rear spring assy. Right & left and the final step 3. Replacing steering wheel damper sha per tsb. The dealer said all this did not help. 28 feb 2013 14,325 mi, i returned after putting more miles on this troubled vehicle. This time they removed the drive shaft and drove the vehicle in 4wd and vibration gone. They installed a drive shaft from a new tacoma 2013 and the vibration returned. They said they created a tas case #. The ( product engineer) ?? said this vibration is normal and cannot be fixed at this time and is under review. I must say that my dealership has been very accommodating kudos-kudos. I feel that any vibration in the drive train of any vehicle cannot be considered normal. This problem has been with toyota for a while so it seems and i ask why, why, why. Toyota knows the above fixes do not fix the problem in any way. So why are they still doing it ??

Drive train vibration. Toyota has a warranty enhancement program for this issue through the 2011 model, but this is a 2012 model with same issue. Situation occurs during acceleration.

I have 27,000 miles on my truck and the rear differential is defective.i am afraid it will lock up at high speeds, 55 mph + and cause an accident!!toyota won't fix it

Cel code p2442,p2445 dealership says the air switching valve needs to be replaced. I have 75k miles on truck. Dealer is charging me 1200$

At 300 miles i noticed upon downshifting ( i believe 3-2 or 2-1) a rumblestrip vibration feeling. I took the truck to the dealer and they said it was normal. It still occurs everytime i downshift (sometimes stronger feeling then other times) i researched previous years with the same complaint.. It cant be healthy for the transmission clutches. I now have 1300 miles...still happening...any thoughts?

This doesn't happen all the time but occasionally when the truck comes to a stop and the brake pressed the vehicle will accelerate with a surge and feel like someone has bumped you from behind but there will be no one behind you.i have taken the vehicle to the dealer and they made some adjustments but i continue to experience the problem.this has happened since i bought the truck.i purchased the truck with 1200 miles.

Vehicle lunges when you come to complete stop, better hold the brake with some force any time stopped, toyota service says it happens all the time, its normal !!

We just paid toyota a little over $2,000 to replace the secondary air injection system.the switching valve was stuck closed according to toyota.this is a 4 year old truck.it is unreal to spend this kind of money this early for this.the tundra has recalls for this same issue.

When i'm driving the truck between 30 and 40 miles an hour the truck feel like wants to stop and saunds wuird i think is the torque converter is not doing his job properly also that suspension is getting restless so bad and so quickly and the chats are so hard so i don't know if it is something wrong with it or it's just normal in the car and saw the things i've been checking on it 2012 toyota and i had it for three years also it takes too long to heat up in winter time

Loud whinning noise from under vehicle at speeds between 30mph and higher.

The secondary air intake system goes out fairly quickly. My vehicle is at 72,500 miles. This causes the car to go into "limp" mode which makes the car go a maximum of 40mph. This can be very dangerous if it were to kick in while entering the highway. It is an emissions item, but toyota is not covering it under the emissions warranty.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. While driving various speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to dayton toyota (2291 us-130, dayton, nj 08810, 732-329-9191), but the failure could not be duplicated. The failure recurred several times and the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer. The technician diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and offered to cover the cost of the parts while the contact covered the labor cost. The failure mileage was 33,000.

Check engine light on, trac off light on, engine power weakcheck engine code- p2441. This has been a common issue with toyota suvs, and trucks! car is put into limp mode. Extended warranty on tundra with same part problem. Not tacoma. Shameful and dangerous for tacoma owners.

Check engine light came on, trac off light is on.my truck has no power and is unsafe to drive.the dtc is p2442.secondary air injection system switch valve stuck open bank 2.toyota knows they have a emissions issue.my vehicle is at the dealership now.

There is a vibration in the entire drive terrain when accelerating from a stop.the vibration only occurs from a stop and between 5-20 mph.this was first noticed in march of 2013 and the dealer (middle town toyota) and us corporate toyota were made aware, but was told nothing can be done. As of today, the vibration appears to be getting worse.there has not been any loss of control yet of mechanical failures, but with the vibration getting worse, it is only a matter of time before failures start occurring.

I was approaching a stoplight at a downward angle and while applying the brake the vehicle began to shake violently. I was going approx. 15pmh when it started and it didn't stop shaking until i got down to about 5 miles per hour. I took it to the dealership that day and explained the problem to them. They got the vehicle to reproduce the vibrations and i have paperwork stating this. It has been a full year later and they haven't repaired it yet. They continually tell me parts are being designed. Just wait. That's all they keep saying. I found out that they made a fix for the v6 model within 7 months, but they didn't have enough complaints against the 4 cylinder model to warrant redesigning parts. I was told this by the service tech at the dealership.

My 2012 tacoma is not shifting properly. It is shifting very hard and a bit erratic when driving, and when i am completely stopped at a light, the truck will sometimes violently surge forward making it feel like another vehicle has hit me from behind. It does not happen all the time, but it seems to happen more whenit is cold. I took it to the dealership only to be told they could not replicate it, and this is normal for a toyota. The dealership also said that toyota is aware of this, all toyotas do it (even the brand new ones), and nothing can be done. My truck is still covered by the toyota 5 year warranty and the limited lifetime warranty offered from the dealer when i purchased it. I feel like they are not honoring their warranty. If this is true and toyota is not correcting these issues, guess i won't be buying that 2015 4-runner i really want!

Check engine light with trac off light comes on. No power. Air idol control valve stuck open.

At aproximate 40 mph and at a constant speed the vehicle starts to shutter or shake, feels like it wants to down shift or up shift maybe its confused. Dealer could not duplicate 2 times

Tacoma 2012 trd 4x4 6spdsince new @ 3 miles, truck shakes upon acceleration in 1st through 2nd gear from 3 to about 25mph (mostly uphill) and transmission grinds and won't engage all gears always. Suspect drive train will fail.1. At 90 miles brought to dealer. Dealer found driveshaft center support bearing installed incorrectly (not aligned, crooked) and drive shaft contained no grease. Toyota usa acknowledged problem, toyota usa instructed dealer how to attempt to remedy problem. Dealer inspected, removed & road tested with vehicle in 4x4 (without rear drive shaft installed) and vibration / shudder gone 100%. Dealer reinstalled and problem returned. Toyota advised dealer to tell me (buyer) to go away until 5000 miles and live with the problem. Other complaint was transmission grinding and often reluctant to go into 1st gear. 2. At 500 miles, i returned to dealer with problem still present and i refuse to live with it. Dealer told me toyota usa instructed dealer to not document my visit and not inspect my truck.3. At 4914 miles, i brought truck brought to larger dealer, for 1st service + same complaints: shaking still present, transmission grinding and reluctant to engage gears as well as popped out of 1st gear (worsening?). Toyota usa changed opinion saying " it's normal ". 4. At 5554 miles, brought vehicle back to same larger dealer with same complaints. Dealer wrote repair order with same problem. Toyota usa contacted by dealer due to history, toyota usa told dealer not to write repair order again, problem already looked at... But that was 600 miles ago and transmission problem notably worse (popped out of gear 3x in san francisco traffic). This seems to be common problem with tacoma's, on tacomaworld and other places shows many folks with 2012's same problem.toyota's avoiding an expensive fix: shaking drive trains and bad gear boxes is not normal.

3-5-2013 tacoma 2012 trd 4x4 automatic new, i noticed a vibration on acceleration in 1st gear through 2nd gear in the first few days of purchase. My seat belt reminder buzzer does not work, it has not caused any trouble but it could if i forget to buckle up. I have been to two dealers and they say it is working normally.

The center seat belt automatic locking retractor (alr) will not release if the shoulder seat belt is completely extended.the owners manual says that this is normal and that when the seatbelt is fully retracted it will free it up.this does not work unless the seat is adjusted at least half way back. I am 5'-9" tall, and have this problem about 1/2 the time.my daughter who is much shorter, has this problem all the time. I took this to the dealer, and they called toyota technical support and they said that the seat belt is functioning as designed.it seems dangerous to me to not be able to use the center seat belt unless you scoot the seat all the way back, and then pull it forward each time you have a passenger in the middle seat.it this is in fact a proper way to use the seat belt they should at least put warning labels on the seat belt explaining how to get it to operate.in my opinion, it would be much safer just to have a lap belt only, rather than a shoulder belt that is very inconvenient to use.

2012 toyota tacoma. Consumer writes in regards to loose front seat on the passenger side *tgwthe dealer informed the consumer it was normal, for his model vehicle.

My tacoma tends to surge forward when it is stopped. I do not think it has anything to do with the air conditioner being on.i had the a/c off the first time. If someone isn't on the brake firmly they may tap the vehicle in front of them.

Plastic foot-restunder parking brake pedal falls off easily & slides around floor of driver's side.in this incident, the block flipped up on it's side as it slipped under brake pedal, partially blocking the brake pedal operation, allowing vehicle to creep forward while stopped in traffic, while it felt like brake was fully depressed, resulting in very low speed impact with vehicle stopped in front.previously reported to dealer who re-attached it at a routine new vehicle service, but it has fallen off a couple times since that repair, and was snapped back onto mounting clip each time.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph and applying the brakes for an approaching stop sign, the brakes would not respond and the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floor board. The vehicle did not stop and proceeded to crash into the rear of another vehicle.there were no injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle as towed from the scene and was not repaired. The failure was recurring. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 21,000.

Brake failure thinking due to wear and tear-- brakes serviced -- new brake pads on front back pads still good -- brake cylinder had to be replaced on front passenger side -- brakes bled off still no brakes only have brakes if pump them continuously -- at the moment still in shop trying to find a master cylinder to replace the one in it to see if that will fix the problem

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. The contact stated while driving 80 mph, while the brake pedal was not being depressed, the brakes locked up which caused the vehicle to start sliding. The contact stated that the traction control warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 14v054000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control) however, the vin was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.

The brakes are real touchy after it rains or really high humid days. I found moisture in the license plate maker lights and housings were full of water. After cleaning it out the brakes seem to work normal again. It seems that the lights do not have to operate switched on , for this situation to occur.

On september 20, 2015, the abs and traction control lights came on and didn't go off.upon investigation, i discovered that there was in fact a recall on the 2012 toyota tacoma; however, it did not include my vin number.i contacted both our local dealership and toyota directly and was told that there were not any plans at this time to expand the recall to include my vehicle.i can not tell if these components are working or not as i have not driven in ice, snow, etc and had a need for them to engage.but at the same time, i don't want to wait until a time in which i do need them and they be inoperable.

Constant squeal/yelp when coming to a complete stop coming from rear brakes.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. While driving approximately 50 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and it began to pulsate excessively. Breaking hard, especially on wet roads, the front wheels lock up causing lack of steering. Noticed this after purchasing the vehicle new in 2012. Has happened multiple times with normal braking and emergency stopping.

Shortly after buying my tacoma new i noticed that my anti-lock brakes were sensitive and would lock up without warning and the stopping distance can vary every time i apply the brakes. I brought this up to my dealer's service department during routine oil changes and was told that this is normal. The varied stopping distance causes problems since the truck could suddenly stop shorter than normal and catch traffic behind me off guard and cause an accident. Other times it feels like the brakes aren't working even though i am pressing firmly and wondering if i'm going to stop in time to avoid hitting a car in front of me. On emergency quick stops my brakes will lock up and with the varied stopping distances i'm surprised i haven't been in a position where the stopping distance in an emergency was more than normal causing me to crash. I would say that my only complaint so far on this truck is the brakes and much better than the truck that i traded in because of several problems with it's electrical, braking (it's brakes were poor but at least you could stop when you wanted), build quality, and other issues. This clearly isn't normal and if the dealer says it is, how can someone get it fixed without trading it in. This is the only issue i have with this truck but it's big enough to trade it in. I spent $30k for this truck and would rather keep it but it has gotten to the point that i don't feel safe driving it.

When coming to almost a complete stop my rear drum brakes which sounds like squeaking to me but the dealership says howling. When coming to a full stop my brakes get real spongy and make a very high pitched howling sounds. I am afraid one day that i might not be able to stop and crash into someone.

Within 5 miles of driving after having new lt 265 70 17 terra grappler tires installed truck began to pull from side to side when on uneven pavement .also very hard to control at higher speed as you get on rough pavement.i complained only to be told it is the truck and not tires, hard to believe as the previous set of tires rode very nice.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that after making a turn, the steering failed to return to the center position automatically. The contact stated that the steering ceased in the turned position. The contact stated that additional effort was needed to correct the failure. Vanderstyne toyota located at (4374 w ridge rd, rochester, ny 14626, 585-225-6600) was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not subjected to a recall. The vehicle was repaired at a cost of $550 out of pocket. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no additional assistance. The failure mileage was 75,000.

My steering shaft rotted and seized. I took it to a dealer and they repaired it but charged me $536.02 to fix it. When i reseached recalls there was one on 5/12/12.i am asking for my money backfor this repair

Lower control arm ball joint goes bad on both side cause the steering wheel to vibrate.

Steering wheel shakes at highway speed, toyota escondido has been able to duplicate's problem. Wheels have been rotated and balanced and problem still persist, vehicle is now at 9100 miles and i plan having dealer look at issue again , but i'm concerned this could lead to a more serious issue that could affect the safety ofthe vehicle.i have researched forums and found numerous complaints regarding this issue that seems to plague the tacoma line.

Recently i have noticed the steering on my 2012 tacoma is harder that normal and no longer returns to center after turning. Upon investigating online and visually inspecting my truck, the intermediate steering rod lower ball joint has failed! upon visual inspection it appears that the cups and bearing are destroyed .toyota considers this a normal wear item!! the truck only has 34,400 miles actually this is a dangerous situation that will someday result in injury or death and should be taken seriously by toyota. It appears that many toyota owners are experiencing the same issue for many years.

Wheel vibrates and shudders in motion, steering wheel becomes stiff, difficult to turn while highway driving.(see zh@ toyota support program). Per bobby rahal, lewistown pa, universal shaft affected, corrosion noted.contacted toyota, recalls on same reported issues only covered on tacoma's from 2005-2011; they will not cover the recalled shaft assembly, universal joint and hanger for 2012 as it has not been recalled as of yet. They would rather have lawsuit apparently for faulty safety issues

I own 2012 tacoma sport from 500miles on it's had a vibration/shake in the steering wheel and sometimes throughout the vehicle cab. Toyota has been unable to resolve this issue with me a even after spending money of my own on re-balancing and alignment and trying to video tape they just have excuses after excuses.they say it's normal called road feedback or they claim they cant see the shake in the videos i have sent them.i hope this complaint is taking seriously before someone does get hurt or killed, its sad to think that it would come to that before toyota does something and owns up to this issue existing.i do believe this is a safety issue, when people spend there hard earned money on a vehicle they shouldn't have to have there steering wheel shake and vibrations with there new purchase.thank you for taking the time to read my complaint, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Horn quit working, only works when the wheel is turned to the left, fuses are good and so are the relays.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the vehicle began to violently shake and pull towards the left while driving 57 mph. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where it was repaired, but the failures continued. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 3 and the current mileage was 1,100.

While driving on highway 4/20/2018 the right side roof molding came off and flew in to car behind me,car did not stop. It made a very load noise as it came off. I was on the internet and saw there were others with this issue and there was a recall on the 2008-2011 models.

Paint problems on all four doors flaking off .recieving a notice for my camary but not the tacoma, both colors were listed.

Mechanic says leaf springs need to be replaced, should have been included in 2011 recall.only 55,000 miles on truck

Is there a recall on leaf springs

Lower control arm ball joint goes bad on both side cause the steering wheel to vibrate.

Rear leaf spring is brokenand near the gas tank. This is an early 2012 model.there is already an active recall on the 2011 model. Mileage is only 45000.

My 2012 toyota tacoma trd off road does not meet its payload capacity.it has a limit of 1240 lbs and routinely bottoms out with 300-500 lbs in the bed of the truck.toyota knows about the issue hasissued tsbs on the leaf springs but refuses to solve the issue on the new 2012 trucks.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. While driving 5 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the rear passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to prime toyota rt 2 (located at 700 old union turnpike, lancaster, ma 01523, (978) 353-1700) where it was diagnosed that the leaf spring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notififed. The failure mileage was 50,000. Contact was told by toyota dealer not to drive it.

Having the same issue as the 2011 tacoma's with faulty leaf springs started as a squeak sprayed wd-40 and fluid film didn't help then few months later heard a clunk and now driver side leaf spring is broke this should be covered under the recall!!

Steering wheel shakes at highway speed, toyota escondido has been able to duplicate's problem. I bought a used 2012 toyota tacoma with 75,000 miles on it from a dealership with the "toyota certification." at 86,400 miles, the truck bed started sagging, and everytime i accelerated, the suspension would make a loud thumping noise, & the back end would wiggle & vibrate.i took it into the dealership, and they said both leafsprings (under the truck bed) cracked (at the same time), but unfortunately my 2012 was not covered under the suspension recall, which covered only until the 2011 model year.otherwise the recall would've paid for the fix.it appears faulty steel was still used in the leafsprings manufacture well into the 2012 model years. In the meantime, i had to get my truck fixed, and spent roughly $1,100 at a non-dealership mechanic.please investigate this as there are other trucks in this same predicament.

My vehicle has the same problem as the recall in the 2005-2011 tacoma recall from toyota.the subject vehicles rear suspension system contains leaf springs that are constructed of either 3 or 4 leaf springs.there is a possibility that a leaf could fracture due to stress and corrosion.this could cause damage to the fuel tank or other components.my vehicle has the damaged leaf as described in their recall although it is a 2012, and i discovered it recently hearing a noise in the rear of the vehicle.

Failure of drivers side leaf spring with large section(4-6in) missing. Gave no notice of failure prior to failing. Found when changing tires.do not use vehicle for towing beyond specs or off roading. Toyota recalled previously for this issue under safety recall e02(e12) for 2005-2011 m.y. Stating broken leaf springs could puncture fuel tank propagating in a fire. Toyota dealership was unwilling to assist in repair or admit fault despite safety related issue.

Leaf springs

When the vehicle is in motion the back end creaks loudly over the rear tires. This is especially noticeable at low speeds as the truck bounces over the road. When the vehicle is stationary and i am in the bed or on the tailgate, the truck bounces easily and creaks loudly over the rear tires. I had new leaf springs installed in july 2018 because that is what my mechanic diagnosed the problem to be. Now, less than a year later the same issue persists. The sound is metal is rubbing on metal, and i suspect another part of this vehicle's suspension is bad.

In may of 2017 the left rear leaf spring broke i proximity to the gas tank.i was told by heritage toyota that there was no recall in place for 2012 toyota tacoma pick-upsalthough a recall was in place that stopped at 2011 vehicles.i had both sets of rear springs replaced as a precaution in may of 2017 at my expense.as of last week. A left rear spring has again broke in the vicinity of the gas tank and i am again being told that there is no recall in place for 2012 tacoma's.this truck does not get heavy use or carry heavy loads although i do live on a gravel road.i am having a hard time believing that this repeated problem is not a manufacturing or design defectwith a real safety concern given the proximity of the broken springto the gas tank.the defect was noticed while driving due to a loud clunking sound coming from the left rear of the vehicle.

My 2012 toyota tacoma trd off-road does not meet maximum payload capacity. Vehicle starts to bottom out at 30% of it's maximum capacity either when towing or carrying cargo. Ride on the vehicle is very harsh when loaded. Took it to the dealer and they say that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. This problem is identical to previous year models 2005-2011 when the vehicle experienced a harsh ride when loaded with any cargo in the back (i.e. Tsb# su006-07). There are hundreds of complaints regarding this issue online and several dozen reports being addressed to toyota and the current service bulletin has not been applied to this year model.

I was attempting to park in a parking space to return items at a department store at a mall. All of a sudden my truck accelerator on its own. The truck traveled over two cements curbs crossed a road before traveling through a chain-link fence down the front of retaining wall into a wooded area swamp. It took three tow trucks to remove the truck. Police report 21-374-ac.truck wasn't repairable so my insurance company totalled the truck. I filed a complaint with toyota in case number 210602000065 but no outcome. This is the second time this truck has had accelerator issues. My first complaint was aug 2019 with toyota case number 1908060035. Toyota pulled the black box and came back stating they couldn't find anything.

Secondary air control valve failure in the open position

Secondary air injection failure at 58k miles.dealer quoted $2200 to replace valves and pump. Several failures with 2012 reported

Takata recall i stopped the at traffic light ion city street without rain. I just started driving, when light changed to green, there was no steering feeling at all for a few second. The car waved side by side twice without my controlling. Then i drove slowly and carefully, it's ok. I bought car to toyota dealer the next day, they said steering system is ok, may be because ofwet belt.

'takata recall' secondary air injection pump secondary air switching valves limp mode don't go over 40 crude controls doesn't work

21012 tacoma with 52,000 miles in need of replacement air switching valves, air pump & gaskets. Known problem with toyota of which they only made a handful of recalls to owners. $1500 for repairs that should be covered by toyota

There is a plastic foot rest on the driver's side floor board that comes loose and gets tangled up in the driver's feet while driving. This creates a driving hazard and could cause an accident.

Secondary air injection valve failure at 53k miles, toyota would not cover under my power train or emission warranty.truck was put into limp mode when the failure happenned and was undrivable.

Check engine light with trac off light comes on. No power. Air idol control valve stuck open.

P2440-p2442 error code.secondary air injection valves and pump.a poorly engineered part that continues to break and toyota wont address the issue like it has on the tundra & sequana (sp).they know they have a bad part .

The engine light came on - took to dealer - was told secondary air flow and pump need to be replaced.

A problem common to toyota's occurred with my vehicle.the secondary air injection pump failed.the tacoma did not have sufficient power and would not reach certain rpm's.the bill is $2,500.the dealership told me it happens quite often with toyotas.they have said this is not part of the powertrain warranty.

Secondary air injection pump. Receiving p2442 code and truck is going in to limp mode

Secondary air injection system failure caused my vehicle to enter limp mode in a high speed/high traffic area. "limp mode" renders the vehicle incapable of speeds higher than 30 mph. Causing a hazard to other motorists, i exited the highway as quickly as possible. Upon researching the topic i can plainly see this is something that is quite common with my particular vehicle. However, other models made by the same manufacturer are being recalled and repaired while the model i own is not. In addition to model, the year of my vehicle seems to be experiencing an unusually high volume of failures. Filing a complaint here is only appropriate and appropriately, the automotive maker should be held responsible.

Sun visor , spring inside visor breaks. Making the visor hang down.wire harness from ac blower motor, so somewhere in the engine compartment overheats and melts wiring so the air conditioning stops working.

The horn doesn't work.the problem has been diagnosed as "clock spring" and the cost to fix it is almost $500.this is a lot to pay for something that should never go out!relay and fuse checked out.

The secondary air intake pump and switching valve stopped working after only 28,000 miles.car went directly in limp mode making it undrivable.dealer wanted $2,100.00 for parts and labor and said it was not covered under the warranty.

Check engine light and trac off appeared and truck entered limp mode. Codes p2440/p2442 on diagnostics. Secondary air inverter failed along with air pump. Emissions control problems. Toyota did not acknowledge any responsibility.

Secondary pump does not work when is cold turning trac and ing light on causing loose of power and hight gas consuming. Dealer says warranty does not cover.

I started my tacoma, the check engine light and trk off lights were on and after taking them to the dealer learned that the vechile was in limp mode. The truck will not easily accelerate beyond 30mph. This is caused by error code p2442 and p2440, from a known faulty partthat toyota refuses to replace.

P2442 toyota secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open bank 2i have got this code three times now and the secondary air injection pump and valves will have to be replaced. There is 33,282 miles on the truck right now. Many, many, many complaints online about this issue but toyota is ignoring it. $1900 fix is very steep for a truck with 33k miles.

Horn will not work with the steering wheel centered. If you turn the steering wheel 90%to the left or right the horn has worked sometimes. Toyota issued a recall for this problem on other tacomas but not for the 2012. The toyota dealership is saying that its most likely the clock spring.

The codes for the air switching valve.

I was driving to work this morning and when entering a highway my truck completely stopped accelerating and would not go over 40 mph, anf would not go over 1200 rpms. I have researched the codes that popped up from my check engine light, and have found a ton of other people are having the same issue. The code is p2442, and indicates a failed air injector that the manufacturer has not issued a recall or safety advisory.

At 57000 miles check engine and getting p2442 code at start-up. Checked and it is a bad secondary injection pump. Checked on internet and there are many others with the same problem and toyota says it's not under warranty $1900 to fix

The secondary air injection pump's valves went bad with the vehicle only having 30k miles. This caused the truck to go into limp mode and did not allow for acceleration while driving. This is a very dangerous aspect when driving on the freeway. Nothing happened to the vehicle to cause this failure, it just started up one day and was bad.

Error 2440/2442 came up a few days ago when starting the truck to go to work(cool morning) - secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open bank 1/2. I first noticed that it indeed put the truck into limp mode, which causes the engine to decrease power so i could hardly accelerate.(pressure sensor in exhaust went off because valves were stuck open) i knew exactly what the problem was due to many having the same issues on a tacoma forum i am on.(all with early 2012's, a redesigned pump was made and installed on later built 2012s) i took apart the system after getting a shaft from my local dealer saying it was under powertrain warranty.(knew it was unlikely as i have almost 70k miles, but thought why not try) after reading about other's ways of solving the issue, i took apart both the air pump and valve assembly to inspect them. I was amazed to find a soaked air filter with water sitting in the plastic molding under it, i also found the rubber had been burnt up in the valve assembly, along with deposits due to moisture.(pictures attached) from what i have read, and what i have seen, toyota installed this defective system on early 2012 tacoma's before a redesigned pump(not sure on valves) and programming that is supposed to run the air pump after the engine shuts off to get rid of the moisture. I bought new valves for $479, but will also have to buy a bypass for $350 because i know the air pump will still bring in moisture and cause the valves to fail again, this bypass allows the pump/valves to communiate to ecu that they run ok but the air pump never runs. Toyota issued a tsb for tundra's and sequioa's for the same reason, yet they are ignoring tacomas.(attached pdf) also just noticed on this tsb they were very quick about issuing it as well, can't see how they didn't know that tacoma's had the same system installed.

Check engine light came on, trac off light is on.my truck has no power and is unsafe to drive.the dtc is p2442.secondary air injection system switch valve stuck open bank 2.toyota knows they have a emissions issue.my vehicle is at the dealership now.

My tacoma tends to surge forward when it is stopped.i think it has something to do with the air conditioner being on.if someone isn't on the brake firmly they may tap the vehicle in front of them.

'takata recall' secondary air injection pump secondary air switching valves limp mode don't go over 40 crude controls doesn't work

I was on the the highway today and suddenly i lost power and won't pass speeds over 40 mph very dangerous have heard this happend to a lot of tacomas/ tundras and has to do something with the emissions i think i need a new diverter valve which toyota should cover

I started my tacoma, the check engine light and trk off lights were on and after taking them to the dealer learned that the vechile was in limp mode. The truck will not easily accelerate beyond 30mph. This is caused by error code p2442 and p2440, from a known faulty partthat toyota refuses to replace.

Vehicle jumps from rear upon acceleration from stop position.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle violently surged forward. The contact was not able to control the vehicle and crashed into a tree. A police report was filed. The contact sustained injuries to the neck, the back and the hands that required medical attention. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.updated 10/23/2014*lj updated 05/21/2015

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma.the contact stated that while coming to a stop, the vehicle accelerated independently.the failure occurred twice.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic testing.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 5,000.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. While attempting to switch the vehicle to four wheel drive, a loud abnormal noise was heard. The vehicle suddenly accelerated with the brake pedal depressed. The contact shifted the gear into neutral; however, the vehicle continued to accelerate. The contact was able to bring the vehicle to a stop by depressing the brake pedal with force. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 42,000.

I took my 2012 tacoma into service today with a trac off and check engine light on. I was told that the secondary air injection switching valve needed replaced at the tune of $1300. I see that many others have had this issue and with 37k miles, i find it unreal that this isn't covered under the powertrain warranty.

My tacoma tends to surge forward when it is stopped. I do not think it has anything to do with the air conditioner being on.i had the a/c off the first time. If someone isn't on the brake firmly they may tap the vehicle in front of them.

The contact owns a 2012 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, there was a loud noise heard from under the vehicle. The contact looked in his rear view mirror and saw that the spare tire was rolling down the street. The contact immediately pulled over and retrieved the tire. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis where they advised him that they were unsure as to why the tire separated from the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired by re-installing the spare tire under the vehicle. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and current mileages were approximately 9,700.

Tread crack/split or dryrot on outer and innermost tread surface of all four tires. Bought vehical used when it had 44,627 miles when noticing this problem.

Need updated overlay label on the tire and loading information label according to fmvss 110 s4.3. Nhtsa recall number 14v475. Manufacturer recall number: e0x. No accident or abnormality occured

Changing a flat tire, the spare which has never been used was low on air, drove for less than 5 miles and parked later it was flat too.dealer has done several multi point inspections, spare tires not on list.dealer stole the hubcap during the mounting/ installation
