This toyota tacoma slid downgrade on black ice and there was no airbag deployment despite an end-for-end, backwards, downhill flip initiated at 40 mph, that caused the full weight of the vehicle to impact on the front bumper, dislocating all front bumper attachments from the front cross member of the vehicle's frame.this vehicle is at a salvage yard awaiting action by the insurance carrier... Updated 12/17/14

"takata recall" hit a guard rail on interstate 40 in ice and snow, airbags deployed and i received a laceration to left eye and eyelid, total of med bills including lifegard air transport and emergency/triage etc over $25,000 and climbing.

My 08 toyota tacoma has airbag light on and dealer wants to charge 490.00 to replace spiral cable. This is a safety problem caused by a faulty part there should be a recall!

Air bag light came on while driving at approx: 76,000 miles and has stayed on...no crash, bump or anything.was on smooth highway driving.

The pad assy steering part# 45130-04091-bo. Evidently the plastic contacts attached to the airbag assembly broke off and my horn was inoperable when another car drifted into my lane. Horn didn't work. Almost caused a severe accident. It worked sporadically for months, then another incident again when driver was texting on his phone and drifted again in traffic. I checked with toyota service, they all know this is a problem with air bag pad assembley. I hardly use my horn, only when necessary, no driver over abuse here. I am concerned that these contact points break off in the cold weather. This is a real safety issue. I am concern that people will not report or are driving with no horn because it's so costly to replace air bag assembly. Injury and loss of life is real hear.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the air bag warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 98,000.

The vehicle rolled over four times before coming to a stop. The vehicle was ruled destroyed. The police stated they were surprised that the air bags did not deploy. Neither the frontal nor side impact air bags deployed. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage and current mileages were 28,000.

Air bag fault indicator is on immediately when vehicle is started , and does not go off . Vehicle is equipped with the 16 channel spiral cable.also the horn is inoperative

Airbag light came on due to spiral cable failure.

Airbag clockspring spiral cable assembly failed. Make, model, and year covered under recall 12v092000 but not this vin. Problem started with volume control on steering wheel stopped working. About 2 months later the airbag warning light started to intermittently come on while driving. Soon after this all the electrical steering wheel controls including horn and cruise control stopped working and the airbag light was on continuously. I removed airbag and steering wheel and found the ribbon cable inside the clockspring assembly completely severed (see photo). I installed a new clockspring p/n 843060e010 and everything is now working.

2008 toyota tacoma.consumer writes in regards todistance to dealership for several recall repairs.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the air bag sensor illuminated. The contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 12v092000 (air bags) and stated that the parts were not available. The dealer did not provide a specific date as to when the parts would become available. The manufacturer was contacted and could not provide an estimated date for when the vehicle would receive the recall repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Without any warning or other indication, as i was driving, the red seat belt light came on and would not go off even after all passengers were wearing seat belts. I took it to a shop where they were unable to pull up a code for the light and stated they could not find a reason for the light to remain on. I contacted the dealership where i purchased the vehicle and they were unable to assist or find a reason stating that it was my problem and i would need to pay for any repairs to the component. Recently, during a u joint repair, the shop i take my vehicle's to warned me that the airbag would not deploy if i were to be involved in an accident. They stated that the red indicator light is showing me that there is not an active airbag system. I'd like to know if there is a pattern with this particular make or model as there seems to be quite a few issues with toyota truck models at the moment. My daughter also drives a 2006 tacoma and was reimbursed for her spiral cable repair expenditure.

The airbag/ seatbelt signal shows up in dashboard . Obviously something is wrong. It comes on apon starting and stays on. Then after turning off then back on its not showing. What gives ?

Has 62,000 and air bag warning light in cluster illuminated constantly, never in an accident.

Takata recall the spindal cable in the steering column needs replaced and there is a similar recall on the same model and year but it does not apply to mine.it says my airbag might not deploy in the event of an accident.

Air bag (srs) light came on and stayed illuminated.after doing a little research, found this was a common problem with a lot of tacomas.most said it was do to a faulty clock spring.no modifications have been done to the truck.have not taken it to the dealer yet.

Airbags did not deploy in a highway accident that led to a rollover and severe bodily injuries.

Air bags did not deploy in frontal crash.

My driver side air bag warning light is on all the time. This happened after the spiral cable recall. My dealer told me that the computer is bad. I feel the computer is doing its job telling something is wrong. Is it possible the cable they installed was defective? the vehicle has only 23000 miles. The estimate they gave me was $1200 for the computer. I need some advice and help.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Air bag warning light on.$114.99 paid to toyota dealer to diagnose problem. $524.00 to repair problem. 2008 toyota tacoma purchased new, never involved in any type of accident, not even adoor nick. Truck had 71,032 miles when this occurred.dealer replaced "spiral cable".

I bought a brand new toyota tacoma access cab 4x4 and in ma a booster seat is required for ages 5-8, or above 40lbs. A booster seat will not fit in the rear seat. There is no way to install a booster seat in this truck.

It has happened twice too me truck is running fine and then check engine light comes on truck goes into a limp mode . Has done it twice once running about thirty miles per hour the second time running 70 mph in busy i-10 traffic in jax fl rush hour bad news. Truck nevershuts off goes to a idle speed and will not run over 20 miles per hour maybe if you lucky . No throttle response it will only have a idle . Never shuts off .

I would like to add my name to the list of people who have toyota's with acceleration issues. I own a 2008 toyota tacoma. I made a complaint with toyota shortly after purchasing the vehicle that i have felt, on many occasions, while stopped, a sudden surge forward. At times, it feels as though i was bumped from behind. Toyota told me that it was a result of the air conditioner compressor kicking on. The problem is that about 90% of the time, my a/c was not on. I was lucky enough that the only times i have felt this was while stopped with my foot on the brake. There has never been an accident due to this with my vehicle. My complaint is listed on their service record od my vehicle. I will simply put that date of incident as today's date, as this particular surge has happened so many times.i have floor mats that do not slide forward, my pedal is not on the recall list, and i do not drive with both feet. I feel that the issue has something to do with their fuel delivery system.

On 5/2/12 one of the right turn signals stopped working. While inspecting the lights to determine which bulb to replace, i noticed that the plastic lens immediately in front of the turn signal bulbs on both sides in the front is blackened and melting from the heat of the bulb. Additionally, the lens on the passenger side front is cracked on the inside where the bulb has overheated the lens. Further inspection of the lamp socket shows heat fatigue and discoloration due to overheating. It appears as if the light bulb is too close thelens and there is inadequate ventilation for the heat. I am concerned that continual heating of the lens and the socket may lead to an electrical failure of that component, causing a fire. It should be noted that this truck model's running lights (which are also the turn signal lights) are always on whenever the headlights are off, there is no way of shutting these lights off.fyi: internet searches have turned up numerous complaints regarding this same issue. Many concerned customers have reported the issue to toyota (myself included), however, toyota will not fix or even acknowledge that there is an issue. I have taken the liberty of looking at the turn signal lenses of parked tacoma trucks just to see if they have the same issue as mine. An overwhelming majority of the trucks show the same type of defect.

2008 toyota tacoma sport trd 4x4 truck.i was driving on the highway at about 65mph and went to change lanes to pass and the accelerator seemed to have stuck and keep accelerating even know i wasn't pushing the gas & the brake felt like a weight not a normal brake pedal.the truck also has higher idle at time of and has done this several times but not all the time.the garage claims they can't find an issue and they tell you not to worry about it.the consequences to this failure or action is vary dangerous as the vehicle seems uncontrollable and you couldn't slow it, even when down shifting it would wind out. It lasts about 1 mile or so (sometimes longer) and then seems to go back to normal.my main concern is that i have already filed for the toyota dispute settlement program but have not heard anything to date, i filed because my brand new tacoma has many, many other issues and nobody will help or fix it being certified toyota dealership/garage or the california toyota corp.they don't care 1 bit and claim it's under warranty but the garage needs to tell them what's wrong with it to fix it. A massive huge run around. I have also researched this myself and it seems to be a growing problem and have a reported 400+ cases of similar instances.toyota does not stand behind their trucks anymore. Something needs to be done before people get seriously injured and or die from this issue. I don't feel safe driving this truck for several reasons and that being the most important 1.also you can find many many more others that have this issue on consumeraffairs.com under toyota recalls or problems. Have a look. The trucks have major issues and nobody seems to care about it.i was a loyal toyota owner until all this. I had a 2003 tacoma with vary similar issues and should of never went back for more.

Front running lights melted the plastic causing charring and a fire.pictures were sent to toyota national headquarters safety personnel under file # [xxx], incident [xxx].toyota acknowledges there is an issue with 2005-2011 tacomas and stated this condition was covered under a "warranty enhancement program" and the deal would correct the problem.i contacted the local dealer and was told my vin number does not qualify.i inquired profusely as to the process used to determine the vin number range, how this problem is being fixed and was told these are not publicly released documents.i was not offered a method to fix this condition to prevent it from happening again -- "we apologize but are not in a position to avail a point of contact in toyota safety management to discuss your case. As we have provided our position on these matters, we do not have further information to offer in this regard."robert browning toyota customer experience.i have searched the nhtsa data base and see others are having the same problems under nhtsa id:10523691, 10510776, 10457435, 10448124, 10427052, 10405463.i ask that toyota be responsible to vehicle owners and be required to re-examine their vin range on this particular problem.the front turn signals are charred and melted so badly they are extremely hard to see and will lead to future accidents.the plastic also heats up enough to cause melting and fire potential in these vehicles.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

There are two separate issues which make a deadly combination.when i stop in traffic on the freeway then attempt to accelerate, the car will rev at a high rpm while failing to accelerate as it would under normal operations.now this is where it is scary for me.when i let off of the gas pedal under these conditions, sometimes the rpm's will go down as you would expect but sometimes the rpm's will stay very high even after i take my foot off the gas pedal.at that point i step on the brake, turn on my emergency lights, put the car into park and turn off the engine then turn it on again.this is all too reminiscent of the problem with toyota cars that accelerated without warning.luckily, the first issue i mentioned, where the car doesn't accelerate properly after stopping, is stopping this car from accelerating at a high speed and causing injury to me and anyone in my path.

My lights began going off at night when the vehicle was about 2 years old. Not that frequently, usually related to moisture or maybe the wipers drawing power to clear moisture. Toyota sent this vehicle home twice, putting it back on the road without resolving the problem. They have now found the ecu unit, or essentially the electrical switchboard has malfunctioned.

My 08 toyota tacoma drl (daylight running light/turn signal) lens burned/melted/cracked the lens but the bulb is still working so chances are it could catch on fire. I have exceeded my warranty but i feel toyota should stand behind their product and replace my light lens. Light lens should never burn/melt/break regardless of how old or how many miles the vehicle has on it. Not all tacoma's have drl , this is a safety option, not so safe. I contacted toyotaand was told toyota would not stand behind their product because i had exceeded my warranty. Nice customer service.

2008 toyota tacoma, 4x4, double cab, 6 cylnoticed that the exterior front running-turn signal lights are brown & one is cracked.original light bulbs in place.fire hazard????running hot.reported to beaverton toyota in oregon this am.please advise.[xxx] or [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Runaway vehicle reported friday, 04/24/2020. Happened again friday 05/01/2020, and today 05/04/2020. Six times now i have reported. Friday and today i was backing out of driveway. Started up, had foot on brake, put in reverse, and throttle went wide open. Turned switch off, put in park, and started up. All ok.thought a/c compressor might have something to do with electronics, but a/c was off on 05/01/20. I have a electro / mechanics tech degree and have worked in appliance shop over 15 years. Worked in vehicle shops over 25 years. Currently school bus parts specialist for gwinnett boe. I know from internet this is a common problem that nobody wants to fix. I have written to senator, congressman, toyota corp america. They want to blame problem on floor mats. At times i did not have any mats in. Last two time i had weather tech custom fit hard plastic mats in vehicle. I can't sell as-is, as i do not want anyone to get killed in it.so as a tax paying american, i am stuck with what everyone knows is a very dangerous problem that has killed hundreds of people and no one cares. My wife has info on report from electronic engineer firm that won cases in court. I told her when i die in accident, file law suit against toyota and us government as they have been told about the problem. My truck went three years without doing this. Now has run away three times in one week! i could upload the report if needed, but you probably already have several copies.

Since september of 2007, i drove a 2008 toyota tacoma. July 13, 2010 at approximately 8:55 a.m., i was stepping on my brake to come to a stop behind a vehicle at a stop sign in a residential area. I started braking slowly as usual. It appeared the brakes were working but not catching as fast as usual so i put extra pressure on the brake. Getting too close than i should be for a stop, i pushed the brake to the floor & my truck dipped a bit appearing to come to a stop but then kept rolling & hit the car in front of me. The car seemed to move froward just before the tap as if it were going to make the turn at the stop sign so the impact was low. The car then stopped but since my truck hadn't, although my foot was still had the brake to the floor, i pumped my brake and stomped it to the floor again and my truck launched out slamming into the car again. This was a low impact collision in a residential area coming to a stop sign in the morning on my way to work. The brakes had failed prior to the acceleration issue that followed. My insurance company & toyota claim toyota is the only company able to run any tests on the vehicle to inspect my truck. Toyota writes that it is their understanding my accident was caused when my vehicle accelerated & rear ended another vehicle. That's only a portion of my claim. They overlooked the initial cause of the brake not catching. I understand that in some cases people panic & step on the accelerator. Even if that had happened causing the second hit, the first hit that may have caused any panic was because the brake did not work. The letter regarding my inspection claims my brakes were in good condition. The toyota recall on my vehicle says safety recalls or service campaigns, "have not yet been completed for your vehicle" and i'll be notified as soon as there's a remedy. I do not feel safe in that vehicle. The police on the scene said i could be held negligent if i continued driving after my brakes failed. I can't afford a new truck.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the vehicle has a 5-speed manual transmission. The vehicles rpm levels increased although the vehicle was not in gear. When the vehicle speed was 70 mph and the contact shifted into 5th gear, the vehicle accelerated to 95 mph without him pressing on the gas pedal. The failure mileage was 15. The current mileage was 26,000. Updated 03/30/10the consumer stated the vehicle has an electrical problem and the vehicle doesn't go back to idle in between gears; especially between 4th and 5th gear. And a slight to moderate down hill the rpm's don't go to idle. Updated08/18/10

The contact owned a 2008 toyota tacoma. While driving 70 mph, the contact looked in the rearview mirror and noticed flames between the vehicle cab and bed. The contact did not detect any smoke or a burning odor. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and exited the vehicle. Within thirty seconds, the vehicle was engulfed in flames and exploded. A police report was filed. The fire department extinguished the flames. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard where it was deemed destroyed. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v604000 (suspension). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 146,000...updated 06/14/17 the consumer received the recall notice after the vehicle caught fire. Updated 08/22/2017

High idle, truck wanting to run on at a higher rpm when shifting. Idle not dropping down between shifts. Excessive high idle when in second gear going down an incline, when motor should be at idle speed. Dangerous on snow/ice when you use the engine torque to slow the vehicle. Seems to be a iac (idle air control) issue, computer controlled. Having worked for a foreign car company for 16 years as a district service manager, i find this an odd problem, as the computer knows the car is warmed up, but continues to hold the iac valve open, causing a high idle. It appears to be a control (computer) issue.

While moving at idle in a parking lot, looking for space to park, a/c compressor turned on. Ecu raised engine rpms the normal 200+- rpms. Immediately afterwards, engine went to full throttle. Stood up on brake pedal with both feet. Rear tires were spinning and smoking. Began to move faster than originally. Turned off ignition switch, put in park. Restarted and no problems since then. Believe something confused ecu when rpms were raised to compensate a/c compressor engaging.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. While parked, the contact noticed that the center console screen on the roof that displayed the temperature and compass stopped functioning. The contact stated that the solder points connecting to the circuit board had fractured. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

Fuel filler neck flap broke off and fell into the tank.gas mileage is terrible. Left turn signal stayed on and air conditioner was working intermittently. Took vehicle to champion toyota on 10-15-09. Dealership stated that flap inside tank is normal... They repaired turn signal and stated that this could have caused the a/c to not work properly. Dealership stated that wires were burnt together causing the turn signal to stay on. Received vehicle back on 10-20-09. Also, i had taken the vehicle to dealership a few months prior to the 10-15-09 incident concerning a/c not working, they said they corrected problem. Also, tailgate has bowed after moving a light dryer. Dealer states that tailgate is not rated.

Forth time. Same situation. While creeping along in drive, with foot on brake pedal, a/c compressor clicked on, engine rpm's revved slightly, then throttle went full force. Tires started spinning; brakes would not hold. Had to turn ignition switch off. Turn back on and all ok. Government knows about this problem with 2002-2011 toyota's, and have fined them heavily. There needs to be a brake override system installed on electronic throttle so this will not happen. Very dangerous. And it did not involve the floor mat as one was not in vehicle.

2008 toyota tacoma upon slowing and applying brake, vehicle suddenly accelerated and brake could not stop it.the tires were spinning and vehicle was vibrating, tires were smoking.it stopped racing when ignition was turned off.

4wd light remains flashing, 4wd seems jammed and has occurred many times.leaf springs replaced recall switched to deavers, both rear brake cables broken?not able to get into 4wd,and now the steering box or power steering has gone weird seems like it's harder to steer left than right?.????? seeems like a flat spot then turns???

Speedometer registers 3 mph faster than actual speed at 55 mph . Dealer says not adjustable and with-in the tolerance level. Truck has stock 15" tires, this has been a problem since truck was purchased new.

Speedometer does not work. Have also heard the same complaint from other owners.

I have owned a 08 tacoma for about 4 years now, and have noticed a possible problem with the toyota abs system. If when braking you hit a bump, pot hole, object, etc the abs system does not know exactly how to react and increases braking distance. I live in louisiana and our roads are not the best. I have noticed several times that i will be braking to avoid hitting something/someone, hit a bump, and my braking action is reduced until the system regains itself. You can hear the abs system respond each time this occurs and can notice that your vehicle isn't stopping. Like i stated before i've owned this truck for 4 years and have noticed this the entire time. I recently have had a few times to where the truck has not wanted to stop and i have almost hit someone because i started braking, hit a bump, and the system did not know how to react. This is a potentially dangerous situation that i would like fixed. I'm a loyal toyota owner (have 4) and just want this issue addressed so that i don't have to worry about braking and hitting bumps. My vehicle was checked out my toyota and everything was good with them. I contact toyota about this issue and they stated that if the dealership says there's no problem, then there's no problem, but i could have problem fixed and they may reimburse me in the future. I've spoken with other owners and they have the same problems with similar years and models including 4runner. The abs system doesn't react like i feel it should when the tire's dynamic changes due to either a dump and/or going from hard surface to a soft surface such as dirt, if the brakes are applied before and through the change in dynamic. I have a particular bump in the road right before a turn that every time i hit it while braking to make the turn my abs pump surges, steering wheel vibrates, and braking is very limited until system regains itself.

I was at a stop light and the tacoma truck started accelerating redlining the brakes held but felt mushy i turned car off.i turned on heater compressor button was on. I had it towed to toyota fort worth where they said they could not replicate the problem. The car is not safe to drive as it started accelerating while braking.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that a loud noise emitted from under the hood upon starting the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis. The dealer stated that the vehicle needed to be balanced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure continued. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 42,000.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the engine erroneously began to race as the rpms increased without the contact depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that flames were also seen coming from under the front of the vehicle. The contact opened the hood and discovered that the engine was on fire.the contact used snow to extinguish the flames. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the incident. The failure mileage was 85,000.

Driving down the road a knocking noise was heard. Took it into the toyota dealership and they said they would look at it. At first it was just the cam that had broken on the left side. And they were charging$6,000 a week later they called and said the entire engine needed to be overhauled and it would cost $12,000. The dealership said it was a manufacturer defect and they would contact toyota for help. Toyota is stating since i do my own oil changes that they are unable to help me and that it hasn't happened to anyone else so i am out of luck.

I have a 2008 toyota tacoma. The way the brake and gas pedals are configured i frequently hit the gas pedal along with the brake pedal. The brake pedal when depressed goes almost to the floor. The pedals are so close together that the gas pedal is sometimes caught by the edge of my shoe while braking causing the engine to race. This especially happens when backing up and my body is contorted to see out the rear windshield. But it also happens occasionally when driving forward and attempting to stop. I do not feel safe in this vehicle and had numerous close calls almost running into cars or object in front of me. I have referred the problem to the dealer. They say they have no remedy for the problem. I was referred to toyota corporate national headquarters phone # 1-800-331-4331 and had an investigation case open, case number 1307222061. After the inspection of my vehicle they said that my truck is operating as designed. I still feel that there is a potential for an accident. Another side note is that whenever i brought my truck in to the dealer just about this problem they wouldn't charge for the inspection or brake adjustments and so no paperwork was written up of my complaints which has happen two or three times. So you probably won't see much of any history about this issue. I don't know if this was by design to not have a paper record to avoid recalls or having customer complaints documented. I have also mentioned this to the service department on numerous occasions during routine service visits but it was never really written up. I have read on the internet that other tacoma owners have had the same problem. The last incident that i had a month ago i almost went of a cliff because my foot caught on the gas pedal while braking. It's a poor design to have the brake pedal go below the level of the gas pedal at any time when they are so close to each other.

Air bags did not deploy in frontal crash.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma.while the vehicle was idling at a complete stop, the rpms increased rapidly.the contact was not depressing the accelerator pedal at the time.the vehicle acted as if it was going to lunge forward.he took the vehicle to the dealer at least four times and they stated that the manner in which the vehicle was driven caused the surges and increased rpms.the failure still persists.the failure mileage was less than 100 and current mileage was 4,515. Updated 4/6/09 the consumer stated the vehicle would suddenly surge on its own.even when he shifted gears the truck would make a loud noise as well. Updated 06/09/09.updated 03/19/10.

2008 toyota tacoma, june 16, 2008 i took my truck to the dealers garage and told them that the pickup motor was engine speed would race when i was as a stop, with my foot on the brake, and that my fuel miles had drop 5 miles a gallon. Also that the transmission would slam in and out of low gear going up and down a hill. They claim they put it on the computer and it did not show any error. So that the truck is fine, they told me that it was probably from when my air conditioner was on i told them i don't run my air conditioner. But the told me to just watch it because they could not find anything wrong.

2008 toyota tacoma. Consumerstates vehicle experiences lack of return to idle in 4th and 5th gear. *tgwthe consumer also stated the vehicle would accelerate on its own at random times. The consumer stated he was unable to get the vehicle to achieve a steady speed. He stated he was attempting to do the speed limit of 55 mph. However, the speed went to 56 mph instead.updated 08/10/10.updated 05/10/11the consumer stated the vehicle doesn't return to idle and continues to go at the same rpm when trying to stop. Updated 08/23/11 .the consumer stated the acceleration problem was caused by a non-reinforced vacuumtube. The line from the top of the engine to a sensor collapsed.it then locked the sensor with obsolete information.the consumer replaced both lines with asemi-rigid high temp emission vacuum line. Updated 10/14/11

The truck will suddenly accelerate without any pressure on the gas pedal. It primarily occurs when slowing down or sitting still. Most of the time it is subtle (approximately 200-400 rpm) but has gone over 1200 rpm on occasion. I am now driving with one hand on the gear shift so i can shift into neutral when this occurs and avoid an accident. This is a recurring condition that toyota says is not a problem but they have offered no help in resolving the issue.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma.the throttle suddenly and unexpectedly went wide open while driving at an unknown speed.this caused the vehicle to accelerate unexpectedly.the contact managed to keep control of the vehicle and avoid any crashes.when the vehicle finally came to a complete stop, it was towed to the dealer.the dealer could not find any failures with the vehicle.the failure was diagnosed and no failure or codes showed up on the dealer's system.the current and failure mileages were 13,000.

While entering an on ramp the truck accelerated on its own going out of control, crashing sideways into a guard rail...once it took off on its own it kept increasing speed on its own, applying the brake had no affect on getting it under control...damage $8,000.00....took to dealer next day to which they found no problem...we have found many instances as this one with this same truck and model on the internet.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated his vehicle responded with minimal power. Whenever he made a turn the vehicle would idle in the middle of the road for about two to three seconds. The vehicle was taken to four toyota dealers who could not duplicate or diagnose the failure.the manufacturer was contacted and a claim was filed. The manufacturer also informed him they would send a representative to inspect the vehicle but no one notified him. The failure mileage was 96,000.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma.while preparing to make a turn at a stop light, the engine revved and the rpm's increased.the vehicle felt as if it would surge.the contact depressed the brake pedal, shifted into park, and turned off the engine.when he restarted the vehicle, it operated normally.the contact has scheduled an appointment with the dealer to determine the cause of the failure.the current and failure mileages were 6,900.

I was driving westbound on i-90 (kennedy expressway) at approximately 9:40 am on saturday, august 8, 2009, in my 2008 toyota tacoma. I was traveling at approximately 40 mph when i applied the brakes as a car in front of me slowed to exit the expressway. When the vehicle in front of me exited, i stepped on the gas pedal and my truck immediately began to accelerate at a high rate of speed. I slammed on the brakes but the truck continued to accelerate, eventually reaching 80 mph. I steered the truck into the far right lane and was now pressing as hard as i could with both feet on the brake pedal. I was able to get the truck down to approximately 25 mph, at which point i drove onto the shoulder and put the truck in neutral and then park, where the truck finally came to a stop. The entire incident lasted less than 30 seconds. Within 15 minutes an idiot truck pulled up behind me and towed me a short distance up the expressway to a safety area, where i waited for the aaa tow truck to arrive. I had the vehicle towed to the toyota dealer where i had purchased it less than 2 years before. The dealer kept my truck until august 13, and i was told that the reason the truck accelerated was because the gas pedal got stuck under the heavy duty floor mats which i had purchased from the dealer at the time i bought my truck. I told the service manager there was absolutely no way the pedal had gotten stuck underneath the floor mat, because the floor mat was not positioned so far forward that the pedal could have gotten stuck on it. The service manager told me the only way they got the truck to replicate what had happened to me was when the gas pedal got stuck on the floor mat, but i let him know that i strongly disagreed with what he was telling me. I know the gas pedal did not get stuck under the floor mat in this incident. I told the service manager to remove my floor mats, because if this ever happened again i did not want toyota to be able to use the floor mats as an excuse.

Toyota tacoma 2008please study this accident. It may relate to the gas pedal, so let toyota know to recall this model too so to prevent an another fatal accident like mybrother had.upadat 9/19/2011*cw

2008 toyota tacoma truck floormats were posed as a safety hazard and recall was issued sept. 2009.i am owner of a 2008 tacoma truck.as of this date june 27, 2010, i have not received any correspondence from toyota or my local dealer regarding replacement solution.

My daytime running lights are too hot and melting the housing plastic.driver side now has a crack from the extreme heat of the stock bulb.very poor design by the manufacturer.possible fire hazard.please recall my vehicle!!!!!!!

Daytime running lights lens is melting and cracking, this looks like it could start a fire.toyota dealer has recognized this as a defect, informed theheadlight assembly must be replaced, but not covered by toyota.toyota and dealer has offered to pay half of the replacement, but still very costly, for a toyota defect!

Head light lens have stress cracks, hold moisture and are not clear and diminishes the visibility for the bulb to work properly and driver to be able to see at night. The lens are not clear and have turned to a yellowish color. This started happening within two years after i purchased the truck new in 2008lug nuts. Tuscaloosa toyota tells me over a year ago that i have swollen lug nuts. Tuscaloosa toyota has done all of my service work and the only ones that have touched these lug nuts. They have cause the problem by not using the correct socket but they want me to pay for replacement. They should replace them because no one else has touched them. I am happy with my truck but very unsatisfied with the toyota dealership not taking care of these two defective parts that has to do with safety.

I purchased a 2008 toyota tacoma pickup brand new in 10/2008.i have had trouble with the headlights staying on high beam.the toyota dealership has changed the switch, changed the ecm, and multiple other things.my vehicle is in the shop again for the 5th time in 32 months.i have taken it to two different dealers.it has been in the shop this time for 6 days as of today.they cannot determine the problem. On every occasion, i have left with the vehicle repaired and then it happens again.the vehicle is unsafe to drive because you never know when the lights will go on highbeam or go out completely.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the front daylight running light lens and headlight housing wires melted. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. An additional investigation was performed by the district service manager who informed the contact that the defect was abnormal. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem.the failure mileage was 20,000.

Headlight assembly inner lens distortion.toyota never sent me the extension of warranty notice for this defect, my dealership did not mention it to me and now neither will cover this obvious and recognized safety defect even though i have owned the vehicle since 2010 when the vehicle had only 8000 miles on it.

Air bags did not deploy in frontal crash.

My 08 toyota tacoma 4x4 that i purchase on 3/5/08 has had a throttle and steering problem from the day i purchase it. My truck has been checked by freeman toyota of hurst, tx several times and toyota of irving. Toyota of irving called in a factory representative, who also checked and drove it. All telling me the truck was programmed to act the way it was performing. On 12/05/08 i filled a complaint with ncds, case# 6008198. The arbitration results between toyota motor sales, u.s.a., inc., gulf states toyota distributors, inc. Houston, tx and myself, was, "the vehicle is performing as designed."my toyota tacoma still does not respond to the driver, but i have not seen any recalls on my 2008 tacoma 4x4.

This is the third time i have reported this vehicle going full throttle on its own within a one year period. Yesterday, i was at texaco gas station at bold springs rd and hwy 81 in bold springs, ga. Filled up gas tank, started engine, had foot on brake, put in drive, and throttle went wide open, spinning rear tire. I shut ignition key off and re-started. Problem corrected itself. I have an electro-mechanical technical degree, and am currently a parts specialist for gwinnett county school bus shop. The problem with this vehicle is in the ecm as it controls the throttle. I intend on writing my congressman and senator, copying toyota dealer in stone mountain, ga and their corporate office in california. The last e-mail i received from you on incident # 10817501, stated; "every complaint is taken seriously, reviewed in detail and analyzed for defects trends. Your complaint is important because it helps to inform nhtsa, other vehicle owners and manufacturers about potential safety concerns. Such information helps save lives, and we encourage you to share the resources available at www.safercar.gov with your family, friends and others in your community." i have yet to see anything happen to save lives. This vehicle is still on recall from 09/2014 for leaf springs breaking and puncturing fuel tank. Parts are still not available from dealer. I know toyota has gone before congress more than once on 2002 - 2011 vehicles running out of control, and paid $4.3 billion in fines. How do i get some of that money to repair my vehicle?

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. While driving approximately 50 mph, the contact smelled a fuel odor. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel line needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. On another occasion, when the clutch was shifted, a burning odor emitted inside the vehicle without warning. In addition, the contact mentioned that the clutch failed to switch gears intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician stated that the vehicle operating as designed, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.

While at a fuel station adding fuel to the vehicle, the contact noticed that once the fuel got near to the top, it would leak underneath the vehicle where the fuel pipe connected to the fuel tank. The dealer diagnosed that the pipe that connected to the tank leaked and the entire fuel unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the check engine indicator remained illuminated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 59,000.

When accelerating from a stop, turn, on the freeway or a normal road my throttle will give out for .5-4 seconds. A failed throttle body assembly is to blame and i've been hearing of more and more tacomas with it. I'm worried that one day i'll be turning and will get into the middle of the road and won't be able to accelerate and then will get slammed by oncoming traffic

Unintended acceleration to full throttle while in drive.

I was at a stop light and the tacoma truck started accelerating redlining the brakes held but felt mushy i turned car off.i turned on heater compressor button was on. I had it towed to toyota fort worth where they said they could not replicate the problem. The car is not safe to drive as it started accelerating while braking.

During a 60mph drive over houston ship channel bridge my vehicle start to stall mid incline. Check engine light pursued yielding po171 & po174. This has been trouble some and fear of power lost during driving. Fuel pressure was checked several times but finally seen intermittent pressure drop below 20psi.. The fuel pump and drainer have been replaced and now have driven 400+ miles no cel. Note the attachment oem replacement kit info. I am concerned of repeat danger of major stall during driverbility.

Initially began occurring on highway off-ramps that curved in an arc.accelerator would die and not respond to being pushed down. Engine would not even rev. Loss of forward momentum would last 5-9 seconds and cause trailing vehicles to take evasive action. Accelerator would then return to being responsive, and engine would rev when accelerator pressed, and speed increase once again.this happened 4 times over a span of 25000 miles; 3 times when turning towards left on a ramp, and then once when turning towards right on a traffic circle. In mid dec 2012, issue again occurred while passing a vehicle on a straightaway at approximately 60-65 mph. Accelerator became non-responsive, and speed dropped, while in oncoming traffic lane during passing maneuver. In feb 2013, issue occurred while turning left ninety degrees, in mid-turn, from a full stop at a t-intersection. Have spoken to my local toyota dealer, who contacted toyota usa regional office in mansfield ma, and was told that toyota "was aware of the issue, but had chosen not to issue a service bulletin on it at this time".

I have a 2008 toyota tacoma and it has vibration at different speeds, i have carried it to 2 toyota dealerships and they both say they don't feel it, well they are lying because it is very noticeable. Every time i drive it , it vibrates. It does not feel like a tire vibration, more like a drive shaft vibration . As of now nothing has been done to correct this problem and it is getting a little worse everytime i drive it. I am very disappointed in toyota for not trying to help me. I carried it to dave edwards toyota in spartanburg,s.c. And toyota of greer s.c. The same day of september 22,2008. I bought the truck in august 2, 2008.why can i not get it fixed by toyota? and now they are coming out saying the 2010 is on recall for vibration, it does not make any sense. I would hate to hire an attorney to clear this up but if you cannot get me any satisfaction i might not have any choice. At the present i hardly drive it at all and when i do it is short trips. I can't see paying for something i cannot drive. Please help me.

Several toyota models, including my 2008 tacoma experience premature front wheel bearing and hub failures.incidences have been reported for these models as far back as 2002 and the issue has not been resolved by toyota.the failure in my vehicle was caught before becoming catastrophic, but as you might imagine, a front wheel bearing failure at high speed can be a devastating accident.this first failure on my vehicle was resolved at my expense in excess $800, but internet reports suggest this repair is not a fix.it is probable that this will occur again as toyota has not fixed the problem, but is making repairs at the consumers cost.please have toyota stand behind their engineering failures.

Part inside differential broke and punched hole in differential case.differential could have locked up at high speed.i was lucky to discover that oil was leaking from the differential before an accident happened.truck had less than 18,000 miles on odometer.

Bought my 08'toyota tacoma used 10/21/19. Not knowing about the rust problem these seemed to have. It had 174000 miles on it, and so far i am first having to get a new oil pan, (rust hole) it is about a 7+ hour job because the cross member can not be removed . Cost will be about $800.00, while waiting for that to happen the rear axle (differential) started to leak. Another rust hole...the differential is one piece, no removable cover. Now i'm in for a used one and add labor it will be some around $1200.00 to $1500.00 to fix...what gives, this is way over the top for a 11 year old truck! i got rid of my 2000 ford ranger with when i bough ithad 200,000 miles on it. At 206,000 when i got rid of it, no leaks anywhere, the body was rusted out but this ny. This should have been a recall problem long ago and i asking why it wasn't. Is there anything i can do on my end to get some help with this major cost. I am 74 years old and on ss. My e-mail is [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Heard humming noise from front end and took my truck to my mechanic who found excessive play in the front wheels.he said the wheels could come off and that it was dangerous to drive. He replaced both wheel bearing and hub assemblies. Test drive confirmed diagnosis.

While operating this vehicle on my property in 4wd the transfer case became stuck in 4wd.it still is stuck in 4wd and won't return to 2wd as it should. I've been forced to remove the front driveshaft (no easy task) to prevent unnecessary wear and tear on the front differential. After reading numerous forums relating to this subject i've determined that this is a common occurrence with this model transfer case.

Rear differential whines/roars at speeds 50-70 which indicates there is a failed component within. Toyota issued technical service bulletin t-sb-0076-08 for problem.dealer, john royberts toyota of manchester, tn, attempted to repair but could not.now, says all tacomas have whine/howl, a normal condition.if this is true, then ever tacoma has a potential problem of differential lockup while driving which could cause deadly accidents.

My 2008 toyota tacoma with automatic transmission, surges foreword sometimes. (not always with the a/c on). It vibrates sometimes when coming to a stop. When i took it to the dealer, they said that this was normal. This occurs regularly.

My 2008 toyota tacoma tends to surge when downshifting.this causes the pickup to "jump", particularly when coming to a stop.i took it to the dealer, downtown toyota of spokane, but they could find nothing wrong - surprise!i was told that the air conditioner could cause the problem when it kicked on, but the air conditioner nor the heater/defroster has been on when the surges occurred.the incident date is the last time it happened - today.it is not very pleasant to drive under these conditions.

My 2008 toyota tacoma accelerates on its own without warning when driving normal speeds.this happened twice in the last week.both times the accelerator pedal was not blocked or impeded.when i subsequently shifted to neutral, the first time the engine returned to normal, the second time the engine raced to redline so i turned off the ignition.thereafter, i started the engine and it raced to redline, so i shut it down.the second time i started it, the engine returned to normal. The first time the problem happened, i think that had been using cruise control earlier in the 45 minute drive.the second time, cruise control had never been turned on or engaged and the problem occurred in the first 2/10 of a mile into my drive.the pedal did not get stuck after i had pressed it all the way down.in both cases, i was driving a constant 35-45 mph when the truck took off on me.when i say it accelerated, i mean pedal to the metal acceleration - not gradual like when cruise control resumes.i took the car to the toyota dealership for repair.they tested it and drove it 80 miles, but they couldn't find anything wrong or anything that could be fixed under warranty.i called toyota's national office, and they said that if the dealer didn't find anything wrong, then there was nothing they could do.i would have thought they would have shown serious concern for this dangerous product defect.

I previously filed odi complaint 10282779 to report to two instances where my tacoma accelerated on its own at a time when i had about 17,000 mi. On the vehicle.thereafter i tried to troubleshoot the problem. The only thing that changed prior to the onset of the spontaneous acceleration was that i acquired a blackberry curve to replace my previous cell phone.my old cell phone was smaller, so while driving i usually kept it in the slot next to my gear shifter.my blackberry was much bigger and didn't fit in the slot.therefore i put it in the cup holder underneath my dashboard.it was then that i started experiencing the acceleration problem.subsequently, i started carrying my blackberry either in my backpack on the passenger seat or in the slot where i used to keep my smaller cell phone and i no longer charge the blackberry using the charger that plugs into my lighter socket in my dashboard.with one exception (which i shall describe) this has solved the problem over the 9,000 mi. Since it began.on 10/21/2009, i was driving my tacoma at a time when i needed to charge my blackberry.i plugged my blackberry into the car charger and placed the blackberry in my backpack on the passenger seat.within 10 miles my tacoma started accelerating uncontrollably.i shifted the truck into a lower gear and unplugged my phone from the charger, but the vehicle kept accelerating.i shifted to neutral and turned off the engine when it started to redline, and steered the vehicle off the side of the road.after i stopped, i shifted into park and turned the ignition and the engine again started to redline.i let it rest a couple of minutes, and it started normally and i drove off.i no longer charge my blackberry with the lighter charger and have not had any subsequent problems.it is my belief that my blackberry's electromagnetic frequencies interfere with my tacoma's electrical system when the phone is either too near the dash or plugged into the car charger.

I was traveling on the parkway, pittsburgh near pittsburgh international airport on march 8, 2009. Where this problem occurred is 3 lanes. I accelerated to pass a slow moving vehicle in the middle lane, the throttle stuck wide open and i was speeding as fast as this vehicle could go, i tried braking with one foot, then 2 feet, nothing was slowing me down. I was concentrating on what was around me and not the speedometer or gauges. I noticed a gravel berm on the right side of the parkway and thought my only way of getting this truck stopped would be to try and get into the gravel but knew at the speed in which i was going that i would probably flip the vehicle. The vehicles ahead of me were getting closer and i knew that i had to get this vehicle stopped somehow. I put the vehicle in neutral and the engine was screaming - it sounded as if the engine would come through the hood of the truck. The speed at which i was traveling still propelled me up the gravel berm, when i came to a near stop, i shut the ignition off. I looked down at the floor, the gas pedal was not stuck, the floor mats were no where near the gas or brake pedal. The smell of hot brakes was quite evident. I started the vehicle and it started normally. I continued to my destination cautiously. The next day, monday, my husband and me took the tacoma to toyota of greensburg where we bought it and it was put on the computer and showed "no error codes". The service manager said that he had never heard of this problem, although i had gone on-line the night before typing "toyota tacoma acceleration problems" and found numerous articles. I told the service manager that i did not want this vehicle that it is a "death trap!" the service manager said, "well, i can tell you we are not going to buy it back." i have contacted nhtsa and spoke to scott yon who advised me to contact toyota california, i contacted toyota and spoke to don lombardo and nicole red who blamed this incident on the tacoma rubber floor mats.

Transmission was slipping and then went it went into gear it jerked you forward because i was pressing on gas pedal and nothing was happening and then it grabbed the gear. Sent to dealer 8/7/08to 10/30/09. Transmission was fixed so so on 8/14/08 but now the warning brake light and sometimes the warning beep comes on. Started 8/14/08 up to and still 10/30/09. Has been too two different dealers had company send three different tech. To work on and even had a arbitrator with the company, still have problems with truck .

I have 98000 miles on my truck, 90% of it freeway miles. Every time i had made a road trip, the back of my neck would burn, and keep burning for weeks after i was back from my trips.two weeks ago, after driving 1000 miles, the burning increased to extreme shooting nerve needles from the left side of my neck down below and above my shoulder blade, down below and above my rib cage in the area of my heart, and around the back of my shoulder, down through my arm pit, up the front of my shoulder and into my rotator cuff. All of this on the left side of my body, and all emanating from the left side of my neck, all the while the back of my neck was still burning. Please excuse the long sentence.the pain was reduced by 500mg of aspirin and 500mg of ibupropin. The next day i hunted rocks, bending and stretching, and worked most of the pain away by stretching the muscles out.as soon as i started my return trip, the pain returned, all the same as above. As i was rubbing my neck i noticed that my truck does not have a shoulder strap. It has a neck strap, since the entire strap was tight up against the lower part of my neck, jerking my neck ever time the truck made a turn or hit a bump. For that matter, every time i moved my body, the shoulder strap pressed against my lower neck. When i put this neck strap behind my back, the pain subsided almost immediately. Now i have to have the strap behind my back even in the city, otherwise the pain in my neck is there all the time.so, for the last 8 years, all my neck pain has been caused from the defective seat belt, and i want it fixed/replaced. It is illegal to drive with the shoulder belt behind my back.there needs to be a device that moves the shoulder strap from the right side of my body over toward the middle of my body so that the shoulder strap lays across my shoulder and doesn't wrap around my lower neck.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact crashed the vehicle into a tree in order to avoid a deer in the rain and the air bags failed to deploy. In addition, the seat belt separated from the frame. A police report was filed. The contact sustained injuries to the forehead that required medical attention. The condition of the vehicle was not determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000. Updated 02/02/15*ljupdated 6/8/2015

I have 3 active recalls on this vehicle and toyota seems unable to supply the parts to fix it.the recalls are for "drive and front passenger seat belt assemblies", "rear leaf spring" and "corrosion-resistant compound application to the vehicle frame".for the seat belt problem, i have made appointments with 2 different toyota dealers within the last year, have driven 60 miles each way to have it done and have been told when i got there that the parts were on "national backorder".i have also been told by both dealers as well as a toyota representative that there are no replacement parts for the "leaf spring" problem and that they didn't know when where would be any.as for the last issue, toyota has put a deadline of 3/31/16 on the recall and based on my experience with toyota dealers, i doubt that i can find one in my state that will do the work before the deadline.i have already expressed my frustration with both the last dealer and with the toyota representative.regards,[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2008 toyota tacoma.consumer writes in regards todistance to dealership for several recall repairs.

When applying brakes on my 2008 toyota tacoma extended cab 4x4 to come to a stop, the brake pedal goes down almost to the floor, about 2 inched from the floor.this has happened since the vehicle was new.at about 18000 miles i reported the issue to the dealership and they checked the vehicle brakes and stated the pedal movement was normal.i had the front breaks replaced at 47000 miles and the problem persist.the excessive brake pedal movement happens every time i attempt to stop.i am going to take the vehicle back to the dealership once again.

Driver hit brakes to slow down for approaching stop sign. Brake pedal would not go down. He tried 3 times to make the brake go down. To keep from hitting the car in front of him, he ran off the road into a ditch. Truck was totaled.

I used an inclined drive way, for a bay door, to pull into so i could turn around and park. When i applied the brakes my abs engaged and started whining. I lost control of braking and my truck wasn't stopping. I thought i was going to hit the closed door. Thankfully the inclined drive way slowed me down before hitting the door!!! this isn't the first issue i have had with my breaks not working properly or with my abs whining. Last summer i had an issue going down a bumpy hill up in the mountains. I was driving very slowly down the really bumpy hill and my abs was whining like crazy, i wasn't even applying the brakes. When i needed to apply the breaks it felt as if they weren't working properly and stoping wasn't going to be easy. My abs whines when i hit a bump, speed bump, pot hole, railroad tracks, and so on. Basically if i hit any type of unflat surface my abs whines majority of the time and i'm not even using the breaks. I talked to the dealer a while ago and they said my abs is whining because my truck is lifted. My last truck, different make, was lifted the same distance and i never had any issues with it. I have had the toyota for over 2 years now.

Was coming to a stop at a stop light and the truck surge when the brakes were applied and hit the car in front of me. Truck surge two to three times after that. Toyota fix the surge issue and at the same time createdanother safety problem / defect. Now when i step on the gas petal to much or give the truck to much gas at one time the truck thinks it is surging and the truck will shut down . In the last couple month i have had three close call from this defect / problem. The technician at the toyota dealership (hilo hawaii) told me not to punch the gas or step on the gas to hard or the truck will shut down (he was right).i express my concern this was another safety issue, he replied this was toyota solution to the surge problem.i only drive my truck when needed and don't allow any passenger in fear of having another accident. Please help.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while driving at a 55 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, however, the front passenger side wheel locked. The failure recurred on numerous occasions.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to multiple independent mechanics where it was diagnosed that that the abs brakes needed to be replaced and to a dealer who stated that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken back to an independent mechanic who replaced the master cylinder. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,000.

At a complete stop for a red traffic light and after about 30 miles of highway driving the truck began accelerating itself to somewhere between 1500 and 2000 rpm'si immediately depressed the accelerator and as the truck passed slowly through the intersection, i shifted the automatic transmission into neutral.the truck returned to a normal (idle) rpm.i got back into the flow of traffic and proceeded.i called a toyota dealer and described the problem.the next day, i drove the truck to the dealership without any further problems.the dealership was approximately 40 miles away from my home and most of that driving was highway driving.the dealership service staff and a toyota service person from another city all inspected the truck and test drove it.they found nothing.after several days, it was returned to me.the weather at the time of the incident was partly cloudy, dry and the outside air temp. Was in the low 90's.the toyota service people told me that although nothing was found wrong, the floor mat was suspect.it was not involved in any way.

I'm aware of all the negative news on toyota but the public needs to know. I was running many errands that saturday.it was hot / humid and the a/c was on medium.i was on a slight uphill grade waiting at the red traffic light.i was the first car turning right on the red light.then my truck lurched forward while i was releasing my brake.so, i stepped the brakes and shifted to netural. The engine revived for a split second then it returned to normal operation.i looked down to check the floor mat and that was not the problem.i consider this a mild incident compared to what i have been hearing on the news.i reported it to an authorzied toyota service advisor and he dismissed the case saying it was caused by the a/c not need more power.how often did it occur?just that once.what was done to fix the problem?nothing.

Anti-lock brake system on 2008 toyota tacoma, acts erratic at times. On 3 different occasions, under emergency braking on snow covered roads, (deer ran onto road, lots of deer and snow where i live)the brake pedal stayed stuck to the floor, and had to be "released", (pulled back up by my toes) in order to resume driving operations. It feels like when the anti lock brakes "work" on slippery roads, it increases your stopping distances immensely. They usually work great on bare pavement, but read on.the latest occurrence happened while driving in a city with traffic moving at the posted speed limit of 30mph..while approaching an intersection, in heavy traffic, the light changed to red, i applied the brakes but it felt like the anti-lock braking system kicked on, and my vehicle did not slow i pressed down hardfor at least 2 seconds, then i released the pedal and reapplied the brakes, and it stopped. The vehicle did not skid or slide, my windows were down, so i could hear none of the same, and it was bare pavement, and i came very close to the vehicle i was following.

The abs braking system on my 2008 toyota tacoma double cab has felt incorrectly calibrated since the truck was new.when i go over a bump, hit a pot hole or am going down a hill with uneven pavement while braking, the abs will disengage the brakes.i have almost run into the vehicle in front of me more times than i can count.in the winter, it also happens regularly in any snowy conditions.the local dealer has checked it and told me it tests within their specifications.they did replace the suspension, shocks and springs, saying that there have been some complaints that have been corrected by a slightly softer suspension.i disagreed with the assessment but let them make the change in the hope that it might work.it did not.the incident dates are ongoing.

I've had several instances of abs problems with my 2008 toyota tacoma. It's as if you enter a situation, stopping or slowing obviously, and the abs system totally releases the truck to keep rolling. The braking action stops, the pedal depresses, and the truck keeps going. You can hear the abs system whining away. It seems as if the truck accelerates or lunges, but i think actually the truck stops decelerating from your braking action and rolls on at the speed the brake released, giving the sensation your vehicle accelerated. Latest instance, i was backing into a clean garage off snow and ice. I had just started the truck so it was idling just a bit on the high side as it often does when first started cold. Back wheels where in the garage, foot off gas and on brake, and the front tires must have sensed a slide while still in the driveway and on the snow. The abs whined, the truck seemed to accelerate( in this case it actually did, just as it would as if you took foot off brake at stop sign). I pushed the brake pedal on to the floor, abs whined, truck headed on into the garage. It would have killed anyone behind me, almost smashed two motorcycles and two very nice bicycles. Only thing that saved them and my truck, and my garage, was i had thought to slam the truck into drive. It stopped. I went in and changed my underwear. Toyota this is not right!

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that when decelerating the brakes would pulsate and make a grinding noise causing the vehicle to take longer than normal to stop. No warning lights have illuminated on the instrumental panel. The failure occured on an intermittent basis. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer who informed the contact that there was nothing wrong with the brakes. The dealer recommended that he replace the tires and confirmed that they were the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000. The vin was unavailable.

The brakes on my 2008 toyota tacoma pickup are very scary. Several times, when just beginning to drive forward from a stop, i have had to slam on the brakes because of an unexpected vehicle or pedestrian. The vehicle stopped, but the brake pedal slowly went to the floor. This made me think the brakes had failed because of a sudden loss of brake fluid. Which was never the case, but very frightening. Also, the anti lock brakes engage even at very low speeds when not expected, for example on gravel, and often when there is no reason they should engage. Almost always when the roadway is dry. Often when slowly coming to a stop at a stop sign. Additionally, when applying the brakes for a sudden deceleration at highway speeds, excessive braking pressure is required. And very scary.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. While driving 5-10 mph during rainy weather conditions he engaged the brakes, they locked up and the vehicle slid into a tree. He stated that there was some damage to the front bumper. The failure only happened whenever it rained or when he used the vehicle for towing on the sand. He called the dealer and was advised that the vehicle was performing normally. The failure recurred causing him to crash into a tree and damage the rear bumper. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that there was nothing they could do. He stated that the failure occurred at least a dozen times. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 8,500. The current mileage was 35,000.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that when the vehicle was at a stop, the vehicle would move slightly forward even with the brakes pressed. Once the failure would occur, the vehicle would then jerk abnormally when attempting to accelerate from the stop. The failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 52,000.updated 05/03/11*ljupdated 05/11/11

I was driving in downtown hilo going approximately 10 to 15 mph. There was a truck ahead of me starting to stop for a red light. I also started to brake when suddenly the tacoma started to surge. I pressed down on the brake with all my might but the truck would not stop. I then pumped the brakes in desperation. I hit the truck in front of me slightly. The same thing happened once before a few months back but fortunately there was no other vehicle involved. I searched the internet and have found other owners of the toyota tacoma have had this same identical problem.this happened on saturday, today is monday and i was planning on taking it to the toyota dealership, but from reading what others wrote toyota will not find or remedy the problem or even acknowledge that there is a problem. So i don't even know if i should bother. The truck is less than 6 months old and i am now scared to drive it. Contemplating trading it in for a subaru, but the next owner will be driving a dangerous vehicle.

While sitting at a stop light for a short time, all of a sudden the truck lunged forward hitting the car that was in front. Took the truck to our local toyota dealership for inspection. Report came back that everything was in proper working order and within spec. Dealership told us that since it was involved in an accident that they could not touch it any longer without proper authorization. Directed us to toyota customer relations. We opened up a case file and now just waiting to hear from a case manager. I asked our local toyota service mgr if he has had other complaints about this problem. His reply was "never, this is the first time i have ever heard of this happening". I find that very hard to believe. I sent him a just a few of the same complaints that i have found online in a real quick search. It looks like it happens to alot of toyota tacoma owners. Very unsafe!

1.icy roads2.anytime road surface is icy or slippery; anti-lock brakes kick in and you have no braking power at all even with surfaces that my other vehicles have no issues.have not been able to stop several times.3. Have requested bellevue, ne toyota repair 2 times.told there was nothing wrong with the brakes that it was an electronics setting with the anti-lock brake system.

Brake pedal goes down to the floor, not quite touching but very close.not enough pedal for a new vehicle by far.this happens in every instance of stopping.i took it in to the dealer who said that was normal for the toyota.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact was driving approximately 10 mph and depressing the brake pedal when the vehicle lunged forward abnormally. In addition, there was also a squeaking coming from the rear brakes. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician advised the contact that the rear brake drums would have to be rotated. The vehicle was repaired yet the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer five times but the vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 28,000.

I bought a 2008 toyota tacoma (new). Unfortunately, last year i began having some braking issues. Even-though it was not scheduled, i had my mechanic change out the original front disc brakes to better quality pads. When this took place, my mechanic advised me that my brakes were over-heating and turning the fluid brown. There also seems to be problems with the quality of the rear drum brakes. My truck experiences inconsistency every time i stop. Toyota says nothing is wrong. I believe this is another issue with quality as i and many others have had with the unintended acceleration.

New 08 toyota tacoma less than 1,000 miles.stopped in a parking lot with foot on brake. Sudden uncontrolled acceleration. Thought another car had hit our new toyota truck from behind and was pushing our truck.had brake pedal pushed as far as it would go, our truck accelerated unit our truck hit another car then turned the ignition off to get our truck to stop.mats were clip in and a good 4 to 5 inches from pedal. Two people in the truck at the time of the accident.

2008 toyota tacoma pickup truck- i was wearing a pair of steel tip workboots when i was pulling into a parking space at a convenience store.i hit the brake but the brake pedal when actuated is closer to the floor than the top part of the gas pedal.with steel tip work boots being worn which are wider than street shoes i actuated the brake and gas pedal at the same time.the truck shot forward in the parking spot and hit a tubular pylon filled with concrete.this is the only thing that kept the vehicle from crashing into a person or building.damage to vehicle has been estimated @ $ 1,170.00.

While driving on a rural road, approximately 55mph my steering column came out of the dash and into my lap.after receiving a recall notice from toyota for a spiral cable recall in the steering assembly i made arrangments to take it in for both to be repaired.toyota called me this morning telling me that the tabs in the steering columns were sheared and it would not be covered by the recall or my extended warranty.i feel that the tabs are obviously another cheap part that toyota is making thier vehicles out of and risking the safety of people.this truck is a four wheel drive and should not fall apart going over a bump on a dirt road.luckily i was able to replace it into the column and steer off the road safely, but someone else may not react as fast as i did.the service employee at toyota requested someone from the warranty department come tomorrow to inspect it to see if they can approve coverage if not they are requesting appr $1200.00 from us to install a new steering column. I was able to find other toyota blogs where other makes and models have had this same thing happen to them.

Powersteering not working properly when making a turn in either direction had to physically turn steering wheel would not recover on its own. Brought truck to toyota dealer for problem they replaced the drivebelt, thinking it was slipping on the powersteering pump. That did not fix the problem, took it back, the dealer decided the powersteering rack was the problem and cost for the rack was about $1400.00. I decided to check internet to see if this problem was common. I found it was ,the universal joint on the steering shaft at the block is not protected from weather and is prone to rust it is a sealed joint and cannot be lubed. I sprayed the universal joint with rust blaster which loosen the joint up, i then sprayed a water proof silicone spray on it. Works like new. This is not only a safety problem but a finical problem and is an easy fix for toyota.

On the day of july 9th 2014 i was driving my vehicle down a dirt road hill. Once reaching the bottom of the hill my steering column assembly separated itself from the dash board completely, causing a total loss of control. Fortunately i was able to stop in a safe distance and avoided impact with any obstacles. This experience left me wondering about the integrity, safety, and trust i had in my vehicle which has not been the same since. I brought my vehicle to the dealershipwhere i bought it from to have an inspection on the damageand expressed my concern for what happened. Afterwards i contacted the manufacturer of my vehicle and expressed what happened to them and that i was not responsible forwhat had happened. In conclusion, after the manufacturer spoke with the dealership they informed me that they will not take responsibility for what happened. They feel it is an impossibility for this component to fail on this particular vehicle. I feel this is a serious matter that threatens my life and my families lives. I feel this is completely unacceptable and may be a design issue for my vehicle and anyone else who owns this particular vehicle.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. While driving at a low speed, the steering wheel seized. As a result, the contact was unable to steer the vehicle. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the seals were corroded and the power steering joint needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the front driver side wheel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the repair did not correct the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v604000 (suspension). The failure mileage was 95,000.

Steering feels likes its binding intermittently. Have read on various toyota online forums there is a u-joint in the intermediate shaft that is exposed underneath the vehicle and fails due to road debris, salt, sand etc.if this joint fails vehicle will not be able to be controlled. There are tsbs for this but only for 36,000 miles.

In august, 2014, toyota issued a limited service campaign as it related to corrosion-resistant compound application for 2005 through 2008 model year tacoma vehicles.co-incidentally, within a few days of notice my 2008 tacoma had two components that have failed due to corrosion.these components are located next to the frame that toyota has stated as having corrosion issues.the two components that have failed due to being rotted out as described by my independent repair shop are as follows:1)power steering rack and pinion and 2)the freon suction line to the air conditioner.i contacted toyota motor sales about this, but they are refusing to cover for any of the repairs.i was informed when i purchased the vehicle that i was being sold a vehicle that would last for several hundred thousand miles with no major issues.toyota motor sales has known for over a decade that they have been having corrosion issues, but to date they continue to produce tacoma vehicles with severe corrosion issues related to their frames and the components that lie next to the frame.toyota motor sales indicated to me that they are aware that it may have been a quality issue with one of their mexico plants.

Stiff steering when driving at a lower speed and worse making a u turn or any sharp turn. The steer doesn't roll back as normally when i make a u turn and i had to be quick to steer in back in time to prevent hitting the median. The steer literally get stuck . I have changed the steering pump and have also changed the rack and pinion but the problem is still there .wasted over a thousand dollar on parts and labor.

The intermediate steering shaft u joint seizes up or is very hard to turn and will not let the steering return to straight position. U joint is not covered and exposed to elements therefore letting it rust and corode. Has almost caused me to have a fatal accident with my entire family in the truck. Every toyota owner i know and have talked to has had the same problem.

Steering is very difficult and very stiff. This is very dangerous and should be recalled and i see many other 08 tacomas with the same problem. Why has there been no recall? also steering does not return to position you have to continuously turn it on your own. I see many complaints about this and there is apparently no way to fix it. I almost had an accident on my way home today because i couldn't steer the truck. Definitely needs to be addressed. All of these complaints point to the exact same problem. The steering is very difficult when moving and when stationary. It does it on city streets, highways, all the same. And at times steering will be normal and you never know what to expect. When i try to turn my truck with this problem it does not respond and the wheel does not return to position.

In the last week, i've had a hard time steering, especially tight turns.went to dealership today and was told the u joint on the main steering shaft is seizing up.they said they have had several of these issues lately.the service agent showed me a damaged one sitting behind his desk.cost to replace is $621.went on tacoma world and a lotof owners complaining the same thing.

I noticed the truck was not handling right (steering). It got to the point the steering was locking up and i had to manually return the wheel in order to steer the truck. This is dangerous. I went online and discovered this is common . Toyota issued a s.b. For a steering rattle under a 3 yr program. This is not a rattle its much worse and as stated its dangerous. I inspected the steering knuckle and it was seizing up.the cost to repair is approximately $750 dollars. This is unacceptable allowing unsafe vehicles to knowingly operate with this design flaw. Please investigate.

Steering felt like it locked up when i was turning onto a busy road. Very stiff and hard to turn. Driving home it continued to be intermittently hard, then easy, then hard again, all during a single turn! caused me to have great difficulty turning. Research proves this is a very common defect and i wonder why toyota has not accepted responsibility and issued a recall.

Severe steering drift and shimmy. New tires didn't fix the problem. Had tires rebalanced, did not fix the problem. Freeway driving is more severe, i'm fighting the steering trying to keep the vehicle tracking straight. If i hit a bump the vehicle wants to jump to the side. Towing a lightweight single axel trailer is very difficult, the trailer is whipped because of the trucks steering situation. It feels like premature ball joint failure, or in the case of an old style straight axel (king pin wear) this vehicle is dangerous to drive at high speeds. This is a trd model with bilsteen front strut and rear shock suspension.feels like the anti-lock brake system is initiating one side of the front brakes, thus causing the vehicle to roll toward that side, then i have to correct the steering. I do not have the automatic roll-over system on this toyota. I've seen other postings on the internet with similar problems on the same vehicle.

Problem with hard steering

The dealer is not accomdating the repairs for the vehicle. They state that they do not have any parts.

Hard steering. At low speeds and not moving

The intermediate steering shaft u joint seizes up or is very hard to turn and will not let the steering return to straight position. U joint is not covered and exposed to elements therefore letting it rust and corrode.other toyota vehicles have been recalled for this same problem but not the tacoma.

Power steering is sometimes difficult.i checked a toyota forum and this seems to be common.the problem is the lower intermediate shaft universal joint is exposed to road salt and spray and seizes up.so at times the steering is tough then it eases up and does not return to center after a turn.like i said this problem seems to be well known to the forum.this is a serious problem!77,000 miles on the truck.

Driving down the road all of a sudden the steering is frozen meaning i lose all my steering.it locks up when steering left or right.

Experiencing stiff steering. Turned on a highway and had trouble getting the truck straightened back out, almost went into oncoming lane.

Rack assembly shot causing steering to "stiffen" had to replacethe rest of the components around 60000 miles. When i called a toyota dealership they knew exactly what the problem was.hopefully, no one gets killed before this gets addressed.seems like toyota is performing another manufacturer watergate by issuing bogus recalls for the steering column spiral cable and the frame inspection and preventive under coating. Really sounds like they are looking for the real problem as per other complaints.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contacts stated that while driving various speeds, the steering wheel became very hard to turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the steering shaft was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000. The current mileage was 60,125.

I have noticed the steering is stiff when driving.it will be fine then all of a sudden, during a turn it will seem to stick.this has caused concern when driving and when it happens unexpectedly could result in overcompensation and lead to an accident.this same issue has been noticed by several other owners of this type of vehicle and has been attributed to the intermediate steering shaft #2.this poses a safety issue and a recall should be issued to provide a replacement part that will not have this issue.

Vehicle upper steering shaft assembly at the joint where steering shaft goes through the hole in the joint underneath column inside the cab is completely worn out and is flopping around and could lead to the complete loss of steering if it was not caught by myself at 49k....

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the steering wheel had become extremely tight while turning either left or right. The dealer was notified of the failure (rockingham toyota, 412 s broadway, salem, nh 03079, (603) 893-3525). The manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from a manufacturer recall campaign for the steering. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was not available. ..updated 08/31/17

Steering is very difficult to control. When making a turn it does not straighten itself out it keeps going in the direction that you turned. It is very hard to straighten out and has become very dangerous. The problem happens in a stationary position, city streets and highway. There are times when the steering becomes easy again which only makes it more dangerous!

Merging onto highway and steering bound up without warning. Took all my strength to avoid hitting guardrail and narrowly avoided causing a major accident. After looking online it seems to be a common issue of an exposed joint in the steering shaft rusting and binding up. Just a matter of time before someone gets killed because of this issue. Extremely poor design of this part.i no longer will take my family in this truck and will be looking to trade in for a different vehicle. Toyota needs to issue a recall to repair this problem and protect its customers.

I noticed the steering became intermittently stiff, becoming more so about a week ago. It happened while driving in all conditions (slow speed, highway speed, dry weather, wet roads etc) power steering fluid was full, pump was fine. My garage determined that the u joint on the steering shaft was stuck and that i need to replace the steering shaft. This is a 2 part shaft (with u joint) that is only available from toyota. It's costing me $762 to have this replaced. This is a major safety issue. In the past toyota has recalled the camry, corolla and rav4 for the same issue. I follow many toyota forums and this appears to be a common issue in the tacoma (2005-2014 models from what i've read). Why hasn't toyota recalled the tacoma as well?

Stearing got stiff due to stealing shaft linkage.many internet stores about this .this truck even though 10 years old only has 140,000 miles on it.the u joint of the part has rusted badly.this is a poor design.

Steering wheel became very difficult to turn i left or right while driving.took vehicle to toyota service dept. They found that the joint on the lower part of the steering shaft was worn.they recognized this same premature part failure on many other 2nd generation tacomas such as mine.the intermediate steering shaft had to be replaced.the this issue could have caused me to have a serious accident.

It suddenly became hard to steer, it would turn easily (normal effort) part of the way, and feel stiff or tight part of the way. This problem started off intermittently but then became constant. Not only was it risky making a turn because at first you applied more force than normal and suddenly it became easier to turn causing oversteer. It did not want to seem to return to straight when you finished the turn. This problem was there whether you went fast or slow and on all surfaces. The problem was diagnosed as the intermediate steering shaft. We paid nearly $500 to fix something that probably should never have gone bad.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. While driving 45 mph, the steering felt loose. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering linkage fractured and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the manufacturer failed to install a protective booth over the steering linkage, which caused dirt and dust to enter the steering assembly. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000. ..updated 08/31/17 the consumer was seeking reimbursement for the repairs.

I was driving my truck in the parking lot of a shopping center. As i was going through an intersection the steering column fell down causing me to be unable to turn causing a wreck with another vehicle.my insurance company will not pay for repairing the steering column.toyota has been jerking me around for 3 months.my truck has been repaired as far as body work but toyota tells me that i will receive a letter with their determination as to whether they will repair the steering column.4 weeks ago they told me that i would receive a letter.i am still waiting.when i call the person in charge of my case at toyota (casey) he never returns my calls.my case number is 1603142032.casey's number is 800-331-4331.

First let me say that this is my fifth toyota truck, all manual transmission 4 cylinder engines, with the exception of this one, which is 6 cylinder (i don't have the other vin's with me now, but could do some research to provide them if need be). A couple of weeks ago i noticed my truck's steering becoming stiffer, making steering more difficult. I read up a bit about it, inspected the belt (ok) and checked the transmission fluid (looked a bit low). I decided a flush and fill of the transmission fluid might do the job and did so saturday, 11/19/16. Immediately after, i really didn't notice much of a change. Yesterday, sunday, it seemed more noticeably stiff. I researched more and read that it might be due to a corroded shaft ' many recommended grease as a solution and other recommended a new shaft. Today it was very stiff and even a bit wobbly ' more difficult to control. I was reading up on how to repair this and came across many other who experienced this and suggested i file this so that others might be warned/protected. I love my truck, just don't like how the corrosion of tacoma's ruins everything. Hope this can be of help to someone.

The toyota tacoma (2008) is advertised for use to transport motorcycles. This is a central theme in their marketing program. The bed is turns out is made of "composite" (plastic). The tie down points are rails and cleats that come off or slide along the sides of the bed, not regular tie downs in the front corners, as in normal metal trucks. There is no metal in the bed to affix a tie down point to. This system is not strong enough to handle the weight or angle of motorcycles. Plus the angles required to tie down motorcycles force the cleats to bend and flex because they are only installed in plastic. It turns out the owner's manual for the 2008 has limitations on the cleats both in angle of tie downs and weight, both of which are exceeded in their ad photographs, leading one to believe it can be used for this purpose, and in what their dealers (or at least power toyota in tempe arizona, and toyota motor sales usa, inc is advertising). In fact, many have purchased the truck for this purpose and are danger of a failure of the system. Toyota has admitted it is insufficient to handle the weight, but continues to sell the vehicles for this purpose, as is shown in their ads. The dealer that i bought mine from withheld the owner's manual until after i took the truck home, and let me know i could come back for it. The specifications on the tie down limitations are not disclosed anywhere but in the owner's manual. The dealer also told me to use the truck in violation of the owner's manual when i met with them about the problem. This creates a dangerous situation in the event a motorcycle comes off the back of a truck and hurts/kills someone.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v602000 (suspension) as well as a recall pertaining to the frame. The contact felt unsafe driving the vehicle. Due to the frame being rusted, the tires had to be replaced ten times. The contact felt that the leaf springs could snap, puncture the fuel tank, and possibly cause a fire. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and the frame was ordered, but had not yet arrived. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. While stationary, it was observed that the subframe of the vehicle was severely rusted and corroded. There were also holes in the frame where the wheels connected to the frame. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000. The vin was not available.

My toyota was denied needing a frame replacement. I regret not taking it to a different dealership because it was very rusted!the corrosion compound was applied and now at 126,000 miles, you can literally rip handfuls of the frame off the truck. The frame is to the point of it not being safe to drive. I fear that it could definitely break in half while driving it.has any other people reported rust coming through the spray on corrosion compound? it definitely did not solve the problem on my toyota tacoma.

I purchased a brand new 2008 toyota tacoma. It came with geninue factory installed running boards. About a year ago i noticed pitting on the running boards (both sides of the vehicle) the corosion started at the rear of the boards (near the rear wheels). I brought the truck to the dealership where i purchased it. I inquired if the tacoma was covered under any warranty or recall, since i've had several and one is still outstanding (toyota is in process of deciding how to fix, something to do with a rear spring near gas tantk). This might be associated with my current problem with the-running boards on my truck!last week wednesday i left my truck for repair with the dealership agreeing to pay $300 for restoring my running boards. By the way they guaranteetheir work for lifetime. I received a call from dealership the next day informing me that upon inspectioen of the running (toyota genuine factory installed) boards that the problem was that both boards were corroded from within the parts and considered unsalvageable. If they did the work they could not guarantee the safety of the parts.in fact the boards could come off in the coming months. No warranty on doing this job.my wife & i are senior citzens and rely on using the running boards to gain entrance to the truck. Another concern i have if i hit something on the road and the defective running boards break off and hit another vehicle. The attitude from toyota corporate was that they are not responsible if anything happens. When i asked to speak with a supervisor i was told that i would receive a callback with 24 hours. It has been 3 days and i've not heard back.my complaint is lodged against toyota for making defective parts that could injury others. Toyota's indifference to my situation only incenses me because i thought i was buying a quality product.

This vehicle falls under a toyota "limited service campaign" based on the vin.because the vehicle is registered in arizona my parents never received a notice of this campaign.but this vehicle is now in indiana and is exposed to issues related to this campaign (frame rust - cold climate states).to base a campaign on state registration is short sighted and wrong.my parents still reside in arizona and the vehicle is registered there but it will remain in indiana as their vehicle for when they visit.i contacted toyota and asked them to inspect and apply the crc per the campaign but they have refused.would ask the ntsb to review this campaign and cover all customer vehicles that might have exposure to cold climate not limited to registration state.if we would have been made aware of this we would have acted sooner but again, no one from toyota informed us of the issue.

I purchased my 2008 toyota tacoma in 2010 with 39,000 miles on it. In early 2018, i received a notice from toyota that my truck needed to have the frame inspected. I scheduled an appointment with the toyota dealership in leesburg, va and had the frame inspected and treated with some type of black treatment. This substance never completely adhered to the frame and washed off. This is apparent in the attached photos.i expressed a concern about reoccurring rust in april 2020 with the toyota dealer and they directed me to call toyota directly. I then opened a case with toyota, case #2004082516 and was unable to get the frame re-inspected due to covid. Recently in 2021 during a regular service, the technician brought to my attention large gaping holes in the frame. The technician said that the frame would not pass va state safety inspection which is due in april 2021. I am now left with a vehicle that is not safe to drive and of no value.

Gas tank support rusted out causing the gas tank to fall off the truck

My vehicle has a lot of rust area on the bottom frame. I am unable to put a carjack to lift the vehicle up without the frame breaking. I am afraid if i need to switch the tire i wont be able to because of all the rust. I need to place a side step running board on this vehicle but i am afraid it may be too rusted to hold it. There is some rust on the body area and i was thinking about fixing it myself but the frame maybe a little harder to fix if i need to replace these parts.

This truck was recalled for premature frame corrosion. At the dealer's inspection the vehicle was pronounced as being structurally sound. However, at the corporations expense the vehicle would be sent elsewhere for frame anti corrosion treatment. I picked up the truck a couple of days later and followed the instructions as far as allowing the treatment to cure outside for several days. This repair was done in january f this year. After several weeks it seemed as though the frame treatment had not cured as a strong chemical smell persisted which was physically nauseating. It is now may 5th and the vehicle is at the dealership (where the vehicle was purchased) for an unrelated recall repair. The service manager and mechanic who looked at the vehicle say the treatment will eventually cure and stop smelling. The toyota corporation claims to have no responsibility in this matter. The dealer sent the vehicle out for a toyota corporation authorized treatment that apparently did not work. This has made the vehicle not useful for me any longer; i don't expect to have to live with my primary vehicle having been made useless unless i intend to be made ill while driving it. The vehicle was more useful, even with minor frame corrosion, before this treatment was done and i fully expected to have the use for several more years.

I was driving down the road heard a loud snap. Truck skipped sideways like i hit a pothole. Found a broken driver side leaf spring. I reported it toyota they said they didn't know how to fix it. So i went out and had 2 new springs put on for safety. I was then told they would pay me for the repair. Now because they don't kno the "remedy" to repair this. They won't do anything for me.

I brought my truck in for the frame check. They said i was good for a frame spray. They sprayed my truck because i was told it was warrantied. I get my truck back and the spray is all over my garage my driveway my paint and rubs off by driving through snow. I was told some trucks come back after a year with bad frames with this treatment. How are they allowed to cover up such a safety hazard. I should have learned from my last toyota frame that snapped on me as i was driving. But after there last recall i was thinking something changed. Turns out they made no changes to their frames even after all there issues. So i asked if i was to buy a brand new truck is there a new frame process.. Guess what no change.

Possible rust corrosion on frame of vehicle. I had the same problem in a tacoma truck, 2000 model year. I want to make certain thatthis issue does not affect the 2008 tacoma i purchased to replace the older vehicle.i still own the 2008 tacoma. I am noticing a hum in the front end of this vehicle.

On friday, december 4th i was driving my tacoma pickup. When i had to stop in traffic iapplied the brake. The pickup had unintentional acceleration rather than stopping. I was not going more than five mph. I was on a city street. There is damage to my pickup.

My leaf spring snapped while driving down the road. And they still wont do anything for it. Because they don't know how to fix there own problem. Also they won't stand behind the there fake remedy for a frame that is going to break apart. They did on the 2001-2004 because they knew the spray does nothing but make it worse. 04-08 your on your own.

Excessive rust on frame.

Took truck in for inspection mechanic said frame is rotted out toyota said that there's no recall pending on this vehicle

Foyota tacoma 2008 truck, frame rust has broken into.

I had 2 previous recalls on this vehicle to check for a rusted frame. . . .when i purchased this vehicle i had it under coated and of course it passed the two inspections. .the undercoating has now flaked off so now the frame has rusted through . .i took it to a body shop and had a patch welded on to the frame. . .toyota now says there is no recall on this vehicle for a rusted frame. . . I have to question this after receiving the two previous recalls. . .

Frame rust. There was a inspection period for rusted frames on this vehicle (and others), i missed the inspection period and am fearful that my truck is potentially dangerous. I think this inspection time period and work should be expanded to protect current owners and others on the roads. Toyota states it is out of their hands and they can do nothing for me, regardless of the safety issue. Please help expand this into a recall or expand the inspection and correction period. Note: actual date of inspection or inspection notice is unknown

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the frame of the vehicle was rusted. The vehicle was treated for rust a year ago, but the solution used to coat the frame rubbed right off. The contact notified the manufacturer. The approximate failure mileage was 138,000.

My 2008 toyota tacoma has a factory bed extender. Which allows use to use the tailgate as part of the truck bed. Due to the small 5 ft bed. Load the weight of a rototiller into the truck cased the tailgate to bow and become unstable. They do not have any weight limit or restriction posted. If they sell parts to use the tailgate to support items it should not fail under such light loads.2008 toyota tacoma tailgate is dangerously weak, and is unable to support what most consider normal weight for a truck tailgate. Although substandard design may be considered "buyer beware", truck buyers expect a tailgate to support the weight of normal truck use activities. Toyota provides no warning or caution anywhere that the tailgate is of insufficient strength to perform normal 1/2-ton truck duties, and typically (per internet forum threads) tells their customers that it is their problem and that they should not expect to be able to safely use the tailgate for anything more than hiding the inside of the bed. Since toyota has produced a substandard designed part, they should have provided a visual warning on the part to alert customers to the danger their product imposes if used in a traditional manner. Since they did not do so, they should be held liable to provide a redesigned part to their customers or full restitution for the purchase price of the vehicles. A google or similar internet search on "tacoma tailgate forum" will substantiate my statements beyond my personal experience with the tailgate bending.

The frame on my 2008 toyota tacoma truck is rusting, i live in the southeast, where there is little or no snow/ice, and i was the underside of the truck regularly. It had rust spots on it the day i purchased it. I have repaired those rust spots but others are appearing, especially at welded spots. I have never seen rust occur so quickly on a new vehicle. This appears to be a manufacturing defect from toyota.

This complaint is in regards to the frame of my 2008 toyota tacoma truck vin #[xxx].the complaint is based on the severe corrosion problem with the truck frame.the truck was still under warranty when i first noticed it in 2011.before the warranty expired i took the truck to a local toyota dealership for them to inspect the frame and have a recall addressed.at the time i was told it was minor surface rust and they were not willing to do anything about it.fast forward to april, 2012 when i sent an email to toyota motor co., their response was for me to contact the customer relations manager at the local dealership.in the same email i was informed that the vehicle's frame warranty was for 3 years or 36,000 miles.fast forward to august/september of 2013.i spoke with the customer relations manager and scheduled an appointment for the frame to be inspected. When the truck was on the lift the service manager didn't even care to look at the frame.the local dealership is not interested in helping me at this point.i was told that the amount of frame rust on the truck is "normal'.they suggest i have the rusty frame undercoated.it's too late for that.there are several areas of the frame that has severe corrosion.my concern is the possibility of the frame cracking, etc.needless to say, while i'm driving down the road.it is a safety concern, and the truck should not have problems like this at 5 years old.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I live in nome, alaska.it has been over 5 months since the recall for the leaf springs that need to be changed as the recall says so. I have heard nothing about getting it fixed. One spring is broken as it notes in the recall.there are several auto shops here not a toyota dealer. Toyota has not arranged to get this problem fixed here.also there are recalls on my seat belt which has not been addressed to get fixed either.i bought the vehicle from kendall toyota out of fairbanks, ak.

I own a 2008toyota tacoma access cab off-rod 4x4.a leaf in the passenger side leaf spring broke while driving.i was driving along and i started to hear a clanking metal on metal noise that i had not heard before.i was close to home so i drove there and when i looked underneath the second leaf from the top was broken in two right behind the u-bolt holding the rear axle to the leaf pack.i had it repaired by a local shop who replaced the broken leaf and added another full leaf to both leaf packs(passenger and driver side) on the truck. Before it broke, the springs on both sides were already flat when unloaded and if i put any amount of weight in the back i was hitting the bump stops very easily.

Drivers side rear leaf spring rusted and a section of the center spring was banging off the brake line. I had the spring replaced 2 weeks later once the part arrived at the dealer at my cost. Now in june 2014 the passenger side leaf spring also rusted and was banging off the brake line. It has been 5 weeks and the part is still not available. I have tied the spring together with bungee cords in order to drive the vehicle. The only thing holding a large piece of metal from breaking loose in both instances was a bracket. If the metal came off on the highway a serious injury or accident could have happened. Toyota issued a rust recall for the frame of the vehicle but not the leaf springs. I have spoken to many people, including the dealership, and this is a common problem that is not being addressed by toyota. The dealership now told me toyota has changed the spring design and i should have both springs replaced at my cost. I feel as well as a safety issue, if the design was changed, toyota should be responsible for changing them out....updated 08/12/14updated 08/23/2017*ct

Toyota has not reimbursed me for payment i made to replace a leaf (spring).the leaf became subject to a recall.i have sent them documentation and sometimes they asked me for documentation i have already provided.now they are asking for documentation showing cause as to why the leaf failed???? they never asked for such in the beginning.i feel like they are just trying to wear me out.can i file a complaint with your agency?thank you![xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I own a 2008 tacoma double cab, 4x4.strange noise was coming from the rear suspension after driving over frost heaves and pot holes.the driver side leaf spring had broke, and was rubbing hard on the brake line. I do not tow, off road, or carry heavy loads. Online search found this is a common problem with tacomas.happy (or lucky) the brakes didn't fail, and disappointed in the inferior quality.

In june of 2014 i went to get an ma state safety inspection sticker and was told at the sullivan tire auto center in raynham, ma that one of the leaf springs on my 2008 tacoma was fractured and i could not get a safety inspection sticker.i went to copeland toyota, in brockton, ma, (where i bought the vehicle) and was told that the broken spring was due to old age.i then went back to sullivan tire and had them replace the leaf springs on my truck.then on september 29, 2014, i received an interim recall notice from toyota saying that the leaf springs on my truck could fracture.the nhtsa reference id is 14v604.when i called copeland toyota to get reimbursed for the replacement of the leaf springs they said it was toyota's problem.i called toyota in torrance, ca several times and was told i had to wait for a second notice (remedy) before i could be considered for reimbursement.it has been almost an entire year and i am still waiting for a second notice (remedy) letter to find out how i can submit the documents i have for reimbursement (paid invoice from sullivan tire and cancelled check from my bank for the work that was done).i have waited patiently for the second letter to come and i think 12 months is far too long for me to wait to get some information from toyota regarding how i can get reimbursed for the replacement of the fractured spring.any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.thank you!

I was driving at highway speed on the interstate without a load in the back of my truck.i went over a slight bump in the road and went to apply the breaks.upon applying the breaks i had no response from them.the leaf springs broke; cutting my brake-line.i subsequently had the leaf springs replaced and the brake-line repaired at a cost to me of approximaetly $1300.

I took my tacoma to my dealer on june 16, 2016 to address the recall 14v-604. After inspecting the truck, i was told that parts would be ithere in two weeks. Called in the middle of july and was told parts are on back order. Then called toyota directly at end of july and was told they had no target date.the recall originated inseptember 2014 and over a year to reach a remedy. Formal recall began in january 2016. It has been three months since the initial inspection without resolution.

Tacoma leaf springs broken and not supporting vehicle. Damaged and replaced shocks and alignment. Vehicle is unsafe due to recall and possible puncture of fuel tank due to defective leaf springs and can also sever the brake lines. Toyota is aware of voluntary recall but has refused to replace leaf springs even after admitting that the vehicle is not supported as required by leaf springs and that the shocks were overused to the point of failure and were replaced due to the lack of support. New shocks and everything except leaf springs installed yet tacoma still bottoms out due to lack of proper leaf springs even with new equipment installed. Toyota customer assistance center notified and refused first request and second filed on 8/4/2015 with case number 1508031434 assigned. Level two agent peter again refused to replace know defective parts or honor recall after being informed that parts were available at both riverview toyota. And earnhardt toyota, both in mesa arizona. Both dealerships informed me that they are directed by the corporate customer assistance center to not replace any recall items without first getting approval regardless of the known dangers to both person and property, or that the part is broken and does not perform to actions of it's design. Toyota has been made aware of the damages, safety concerns, as well as lost time and costs ($993.41in service repairs plus 5 lost use/work days to date), yet has refused to honor or abide by the requirements to replace the defective equipment.

The vehicle had 4 passengers and about 200 pounds of gear in the truck bed and it has a leer cap on.on bumpy roads it began to hit the bump stops as if it were overloaded, this happened about 20 times.on the return trip on i 57 nas i crossed over a bridge the truck bottomed out slamming the bump stops and the vehicle almost veered off the road to the right, the rear suspension after hitting the bump stops hard seemed to return erratically and disturb the balance of the vehicle. On another trip a few weeks later with 3 of the same people in the car in snow conditions i again hit the bump stops but this time the vehicle veered to the right and i lost control due to lack of traction. Toyota has inspected the vehicle on 2 occasions in regard to the bottoming out issue, both times they say nothing is wrong, did have the factory tsb done for the suspension early on but it has not helped, as truck gets older the lack of control after hitting the bump stops is repeatable and predictable even with less weight than it is rated for.

March of 2014 my right rear leaf spring cracked. I contacted the toyota dealer and toyota corporate regarding this. They both denied any generic problem with the springs and toyota refused any replacement.in august of 2014 the left leaf broke. In both cases i chose to have my local mechanic replace the broken leaf. I believe that i should be reimbursed for the replacement of the leaves and the spring assembly should be replaced per the announced recall (sept 29, 2014).i detected the break because of unusual suspension noise. No loads were carried during this period.

Steering feels likes its binding intermittently. Have read on various toyota online forums there is a u-joint in the intermediate shaft that is exposed underneath the vehicle and fails due to road debris, salt, sand etc.if this joint fails vehicle will not be able to be controlled. Rear universal going broke due to rust while driving vehicle, front driver side tire component broke due to rust while driving vehicle.

I have noticed for several months that the truck has been "bottoming out" when going over a bump with a load. I got under to inspect and noticed a right leaf spring broke and sitting over on the axle. The top part was still connected to the other leaf springs. It broke in the area above the axle. Toyota still has no parts to fix the issue. Somebody needs to get them on the ball to fixing the problem!! what if it had broke and went on the side of the tire, rubbed it and i had a blow out driving.

I called toyota in february 2014 to complain of rough riding truck. Was told my truck was out of warranty and nothing toyota was willing to cover. In october 2014 i called toyota to report my leaf springs had broke and needed replaced. Was told toyota would not cover repairs and that i was responsible to pay for the repairs. Shortly after i made the repair, toyota issued a recall of the leaf springs. I have been battling with them to be reimbused since late 2014. Today while speaking with supervisor on duty at toyota, luis carrillo, i was informed toyota knew of the recall in september 2014, so when i called in october 2014, toyota fraudulently told me they would not cover the costs and i was responsible. This is what is wrong with the world today, nobody does the right thing unless the government makes them. Still today toyota will not reimburse me for the leaf springs. What can be done to stop them from continuing their fraudulent ways that leaves americans and their family in danger?

Nhtsa recall: 14v-604 (leaf springs recall)i attempted to have my leaf springs replaced after receiving a letter from toyota. Took the vehicle to bayridge toyota in brooklyn ny to have the work done. Was never told that it would require two visits and the first visit was only for an inspection. Then when i was told the service would take another two weeks in order to get the parts in, i was forced to decline the service to get my vehicle back. I spoke with toyota representatives and the national people were friendly and responsive and the brooklyn dealership at bayridge made it almost impossible to work with. The toyota recall letter also never mentions two visits. It only says the service will require two hours. The truck was dropped off for a day and was returned with a list of other things that needed replacing. The dealership never actually wrote down if the leaf springs needed to be replaced, they only listed the extra work they wanted to add on. Also while setting up the appointment with bayridge toyota they gave the impression the work would be done during the time it was dropped off the the first and only time.

March 2014:the rear spring on the toyotat tacoma broke. Toyota denied responsibility. I paid fornew leaf. August 2014: the other spring broke. Again toyota denied responsibility. I paid for a new leaf. Sept 29, 2014: a recall notice is issued for rear leaf spring.sept 29 to date: toyota acknowledges the problem and agrees to reimburse me for my out of pocket expenses and replace the springs. But....no date is available for the replacement. They say they cannot pay me back until they replace the springs. Today: toyota corporate says they have no information on the availability of parts. Nothing can be done until they are given the information on the parts.now i cannot believe that toyota does not have in their logistics system an exact understanding of when the parts will be available. They are delaying this in the hope of customers forgetting about it and to delay the investment necessary to carry out the recall.i believe action by the nhsta is called for both due to the delay and the failure to provide meaningful information.

This 2008 toyota tacoma double cab was purchased new in late 2007.it immediate developed leaf spring noise which toyota addressed through tsb tsu01207 - grease springs. Tsb 027409 was issued in 2009 which inserted a new silencer pad design. Those wore out in a year. No resolution has been offered by toyota since - although promised - and tacoma owners stop me in parking lots to ask about the issue.a video of the problem can be found at: http://youtu.be/ygn9ex7cevu.

Rear leaf spring broke in half and was rubbing against tire almost causing an accident. Customer paid for repairs which was not covered by warranty and before the safety recall was issued. Customer mailed to toyota a copy of the repair order, proof of payment, and proof of ownership as requested. Toyota has refused to pay for repairs.

Left rear leaf spring found broken on used tacoma that i purchased. A quick web search reveals this is not an uncommon problem. The manufacturer has issued a tsb for replacement of weak springs for vehicles still under the new vehicle comprehensive warranty.the aftermarket spring supplier that i purchased a replacement spring from stated this is his best selling spring; i think that is a strong indication of a widespread problem.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, he heard a loud abnormal noise as the vehicle tilted to the side. The contact mentioned that the leaf spring became fractured and landed on top of the axle, crushing the brake lines. Problem: broken rear leaf springs on both sides of vehicle. They broke 6 months apart.there has been a long delay byin taking care of the recall for spring replacement. I received the message below 10/2/14. Is there something that can be done to get toyota to act? not only do they need to replace the spring assemblies but they need to reimburse me for my previous repair of broken springs. I get no information from toyota or the dealer on any schedule._______________your 2008 tacoma with vehicle identification number (vin) [xxx] is involved in special service campaign (recall) e12, which addresses the vehicle's leaf springs.toyota announced this campaign earlier in the week, and we will be issuing preliminary notifications to owners of affected vehicles in the near future.you may feel free to confirm your tacoma's recall involvement at http://www.toyota.com/recall.toyota is currently preparing the remedy for this service campaign, and we will send a second round of owner notifications when the remedy becomes available.when you receive the second letter from toyota, it will include instructions on how you can apply for reimbursement for previously completed leaf spring repairs.toyota will not be able to review reimbursement requests until the remedy is launched.in the interim, it could be helpful for you to locate and make copies of your repair invoices, including proof of payment, as well as a copy of your registration or insurance for the repair dates.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I brought my car to a repair facility for brakes and when it was put up on the lift the mechanic noted that one of the leaf springs on both sides of the vehicle had snapped - the snapped spring was able to move both back and forth as well as to protrude sideways.i was told the vehicle was not drivable and the springs needed to be replaced.i paid for the replacement of the springs. Recently i received a notice that the company is recalling all like vehicles to add corrosion resistant materials to the frame.when i spoke with the company they denied the two incidents were similar and took umbrage that i would suggest such.no one i have spoken to has ever seen springs break in this manner.the vehicle has not been used to tow heavy objects nor taken off road so the problem has occurred under normal circumstances.i am concerned that others may have the same issue and not find it until an accident occurs.updated 12/07/15.

Our 2008 toyota tacoma was making a creaking noise coming from the rear suspension.in 12/2012, we had taken it to our mechanic who noticed the springs seemed to be sagging beyond normal & he suggested we replace the springs & shocks. We later received notice from toyota regarding a leaf spring recall. We sent toyota the appropriate paperwork, which was requested from toyota, as we had already paid for the leaf spring replacement. We were told that "the repair performed on your vehicle does not meet the criteria for reimbursement."we are requesting an appeal as we feel our leaf spring should have been covered under the recall.

I received a recall about possible rear spring breakage due to pressure corrosion. The description addressed the possibility of a punctured gas tank or damaged brake line. It is now late april of 2015 and according to toyota's web site they are still trying to figure out how to fix it. When i contact the dealer, all they say is we are powerless until we hear from toyota. I am concerned that toyota does not want to figure out a solution. Surelycompany with toyota's staff and resources could have come up with something by now.

I heard a noise from the rear end when i hit a pothole.when i got home and checked the rear end, i noticed 1 of the r/r leaf springs had fractured all the way through. I had it replaced at a service station in april 2013.i received a notice from toyota in 2014 that certain 2005-2011 vehicles would be recalled.this is july of 2015 and still no word on the fix or recall. It seems fairly obvious it would be better to add another leaf spring for better support. What is taking so long to resolve this issue?i contacted toyota customer care for reimbursement months ago, but all they keep saying is they can do nothing till the fix is approved and ready. Its been 2 yrs. Since the incident. Surely they should move faster than this.

I have had three separate incidents of leaf springs breaking. It is always the center leaf spring - once on the left and twice on the right.i repaired two springs prior to the recall, and submitted a request for reimbursement to toyota, which they denied.i just had a third leaf spring break. I use my truck for hauling material on my farm and cannot do so with a broken leaf spring. It is obviously a design problem, and not a corrosion issue as the leaf spring that broke this third time was repaired less than two years ago. It has been four months since the initial recall and toyota still has no date when replacement parts will be available.when will the ntsb take action to require prompt attention to correcting this problem, including requiring reimbursement for costs associated with this defect?

Shimmy and tramping of front steering at freeway speeds (45 -70 mph) worse after hitting bumps. Truck jumped sideways one foot on turn while crossing bridge after encountering a bump this almost caused an accident. I have complained about this problem to the dealer several times, since the truck was new.

Truck has front end vibration as if tires are out of balance. Dealer has rotated and balanced tires twice and advises that this is a problem known to toyota and that they are working on it.

We have been having trouble with my 2008 toyota tacoma truck with the engine revving when we first start it up.we took it to the dealer.they said that this is "normal"last week we took it in due to a safety recall notice for sudden acceleration problems that toyota claims is due to floor mats.dealer cut down the accelerator pedal, reprogrammed the computer control system, rotated the tires.upon pulling out of the dealership the steering wheel vibrated (side to side) andcar bucked (front to back) there were loud grinding and banging noises. Car pulled strongly to the left. I took my foot off of the accelerator .instead of slowing, the enginesuddenly revved up.due to oncoming traffic on both sides of us, ifocused on steering us out of trouble by keeping us in our lane. I did not apply brake. Ihad thought that without gas, the car would gradually slow down on its own.instead of slowing the engine revved up! trucksuddenly lurched 90 degrees to left, jerked steering wheel our of my hands vehicle lurched into the oncoming traffic lane, wholefront passenger side tire assembly came off and headed one way and the truck went the other.we were thrown forward, down and to the right.the vehicle kept movinguntil we crashed into concrete entrance/exit of dealership.i put on emergency brake.dealer says "simple human error mechanic forgot to tighten bolts on tire"i think this goes way beyond a tire problem.they messed with computer control system andthe accelerator pedal. I can't see how tires cause engines to rev up. Updated 01/28/11 updated 02/07/11

Suspension is doing a loud friction sound when driving over a bump at a very slow speed, it sounds like metals are having friction one against the other, this is happening every time you drives over a bump, bigger bump louder sound. And there is no way to go fast over these bumps all of them are at school student dropping areas and security is first than everything, but is any part of the front suspension damaged because of this?

I have a 2008 tacoma which had a recall for vehicles in snow and icy weather then frame may need to be treated and sprayed with anti-rust solution. I was told that when the items came in for the job i would receive a call ti set up an appointment but i never go a call. A couple of months past and i went to the dealership and the lady in the service department at greens toyota in lexington ky told me the material for the job were on back order. I waited a couple of months more and i went back to greens toyota and was told that the recall was expired and there was nothing they could do. I asked to speak to a service manager and he told me that the material for the job were never on back order and he didn't know why i was told that. He also said that he was sorry but there was nothing he could. I think it is sad that i was lied to about this matter which caused me to miss out on this recall from a manufacture that considers themselves tops in the buisness. To just flat out lie to a consumer like that is really sad and i would expect better from toyota!

While stopped yesterday waiting on an automatic gate to open. Truck was in drive, foot on the brake as normal. Without moving, truck accelerated on its on lunging forward, back tires screeching as i applied more pressure to the brake. Had enough sense to throw into neutral to make it stop. Engine continued to rev even after putting it in neutral but quickly returned back to normal. Fortunately, i didn't run into the gate but would have had i not of put it in neutral. I have contacted my local toyota dealership which are suppose to look at it tomorrow. I was told they would bring in a representative from toyota to assess the situation.

Rust on frame will not pass inspection. We never received a recall notice. Toyota refuses to fix

Airbags did not deploy in a highway accident that led to a rollover and severe bodily injuries.

We own a 2008 toyota tacoma.it was brought to our attention late october 2014, that one of the leaf springs was broken on the vehicle.upon further inspection, it was determined that both leaf springs were broken.fitzgerald toyota - where we purchased the vehicle, said that the leaf springs were being 'recalled'.we received our notice of a recall from toyota mid to late november 2014.i have called fitzgerald toyota several times, and also have been on the phone with personnel from toyota in the state of california, informing them of our situation - being both leaf springs broken/not functional.in february of 2015, i talked with the california office of toyota asking when the leaf springs would be available, as we are fearful of it doing more damage to the vehicle.they told me that they were working diligently to fix them problem, however, to date - april 2015...no leaf springs are available.california called fitzgerald toyota to have them do a short term remedy by placing an 'old set' of leaf springs on the truck, and when the remedied springs were available, they could be replaced.however, there are no old or new leaf springs anywhere!!!!there is no way to fix our problem!!!!pennsylvania law requires motor vehicles to pass inspection yearly...our vehicle will not pass inspection...what are we to do??this isn't our fault, it's toyota's problem, with no remedy. When our truck doesn't pass inspection, what are we to do???it is coming on 5 months, and i believe that toyota started to look into the recall in september 2014.how long should a consumer wait??this is totally unacceptable.there are local companies that make leaf springs...why isn't toyota doing all that they can do to remedy the situation??we have even check junk and salvage yards - to no avail.please make a demand on toyota that they remedy the situation asap.

I had to bring my 2008 toyota tacoma in to get serviced . I received a call regarding the state of the frame. The dealer informed me that the are multiple spot on the frame with bad rust damage and some of the cross members are missing where they attach to the frame and said it would not pass state inspection. In 2015 the truck was resprayed to protect the farme which lasted about 1 month. At this point the frame will not last another year.

My vehicle shows that i have 3 recall items to repair but i had all 3 repairs completed on 7/23/20.i called both toyota and nhtsa several times to remove these items from the nhtsa website for my truck.please remove these items from the website.thank you, mark

Driving my 2008 toyota tacoma prerunner (odometer 12226).returned from short trip to visit friend (approximately 1.5 miles away).turned to pull into double garage.automatic transmission was in lower gear 2 or 3.braked appropriately to stop in garage.started to shift towards park.engine rev'd up to very high rpm.rear tires started spinning forward.vehicle started moving forward against brakes.applied heavy brakes.engine was still racing.vehicle continued to move forward, impacting storage cabinets against wall.all this occurred in 2-3 seconds. No time to react.relatively slow impact (due to brakes).finally shut off engine with key, but too late. .damage to garage wall and front of vehicle.never had this problem before.restarted engine later, and could not duplicate problem in driveway.had vehicle checked by nearest dealer next day.they could not duplicate problem.they had heard of very few similar problems.technician said accelerator pedal was sticking slightly...depending on where pressure was applied on pedal.this was not likely cause because foot was off accelerator pedal and engine idling at low rpm before problem occurred.technician attempted to download program update which (i think) would have eliminated an 'increased rpm to burn off excess waste in catalytic converter'...but did not download because this fix was only for vehicles with super charger.dealer could not find similar problem in their database...but they'll keep checking.root cause of problem is not yet known.i consider myself a very safe driver.i was very familiar with the vehicle and the garage entry process was nothing new to me.

I noticed excessive rust forming in inner wheel housing near bolts holding wheel springs. Looking further showed excessive rust forming on other sheet metal which was protected from the weather. I did nothing until i received the recall about rust problems on the truck frame. When i spoke to toyota about the sheet metal rust, they refused to consider it saying the recall only covered the frame. A call to national toyota customer service got the same response. I believe that toyota's problem with applying rust prevention is more extensive than just the frame and affects nearly all of the sheet metal on the truck. Failure to address this sheet metal rust could lead to potential handling and steering problems should the rusted areas breakaway.

Sudden acceleration(engine surge) while waiting (foot on brake) to enter traffic lane; immediately put gear in neutral and turned engine off.

Toyota tacoma rear suspension leaf springs.i received a recall notice from toyota and went to a dealership on may,16, 2016 and was told i my leaf springs required replacement, but the parts were on back order. I called one month later and was told the parts were on back order. I contacted toyota and was told "there is no eta." repeatedly. I have received e-mails from toyota to repeat this phone calland was told 'there is no eta." last week i was told in an e-mail to contact my dealership. They have no idea when the parts are due because " they are on back order".toyota has told me that the rear suspension on my truck requires replacement. After 7 weeks , and repeated phone calls and e-mails, i have received no information regarding when they will be replaced.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma.the contact stated that the color of the vehicle and the color of the front bumper and grill were two different colors.they are all supposed to be one solid color.toyota's general manager and customer service representative agreed and stated that they would call him regarding the issue.as of june 6, 2008, the contact has not heard back from toyota.the current mileage was 1,500 and failure mileage was 1,000.

Frame rusting premature, this truck has never seen salt in the winter.

Clunting sound coming from trasmission to rear end when coming to full stop and down shifting

There was a frame inspection for repairnotice for my tacoma for the past few years. I just found out about it when my father sold it to me. He did not realize there a recall because they look like all the other scams that prey on the elderly. I was supposed received ownership of this truck in march of this year, then covid 19 hit. I was sent he from work and told i couldn't go further than my commuting distance from my governor here in maine. I finally received the truck on april because my father lives 100 miles from me. Then had to wait for my town office to open in june to register it. Finally brought it to toyota to get some other recalls taken care of on june and they notified me that i have separation in my frame. Too bad because toyota was fixing and replacing such frames bit it expired the middle of april. I contacted toyota to see if the could possibly extend the program because of covid 19. It took 3 hours on the phone and they came back two weeks later saying they would not cover my truck. This is a serious safety issue. First off toyota just assume that when a truck hits 12 years old that it's ok for their frames to fail. They also don't consider a shut down state a good enough reason to extend this coverage.

Referencing my 2008 4.0l six-cylinder toyota tacoma with demand 4x4, 5-speed automatic transmission and trd sport package that includes a limited slip rear differential, i experienced an unanticipated unexplainableloss of engine power.note that the truck does not have a user controllable torque limiting or traction control system.while attempting to slowly traverse a grassy surface while in two-wheel drive the vehicle involuntarily came to a standstill.the engine had lost power and the vehicle refused to move.the rear wheels did not suffer any loss of traction in other words they did not lose traction and spin and could not be made to spin.applying full throttle did not help; although not misfiring while running smoothly, the engine lacked meaningful power and would not gain any significant rpms under any throttle position.there were no abnormal gauge readings or instrument panel warning lights indicating a problem.after several attempts at working the truck free by going from neutral to drive i was able to move it onto pavement but, while on the road, the vehicle continued to exhibit a gross loss of power and had difficulty attaining even 40 mph.after driving several miles down the road, the fault eventually cleared and the engine returned to its normal energetic self.because the vehicle's performance returned to normal (and it was sunday) it was not taken to a repair shop. On arriving at my destination, i connected a obd2 diagnostic tool to the vehicle but no trouble code was indicated.(there was no indication of water in the vehicle's gasoline and the gasoline was fresh and of proper octane; the engine or ignition system were not wet.no possible causes for the power loss were observed.) an unexplained loss of engine power in a moving vehicle can prove disastrous if not dangerous.attempts at contacting toyota in order to identify a cause and remedy for the problem have proven futile.

Sun visor is defected. It's not working properly. It goes down when it goes in the up position.

Truck wont start, replace and purchase battery and warranty with non stock battery two times. Sent the truck to the dealer to replicate the situation, both instances gave the truck clean slate. On the second time, dealer replace the alternator due to lower than 14 amps and replace the battery the third time. After three weeks, the truck wont start again, and sent the truck to the dealer to replicate the situation. Again the truck was given a clean bill of health. The dealer keep showing me tape result of test on the battery, accepting the charge, the alternator and charging amps output. The dealer eliminated any parasitic device that eats more power or wakes up when a device are suppose to be sleeping. I need help.

My tacoma was in the shop for the limited frame undercoating spray back in november 2014, then was rusting through the spray and resprayed in july 2015, now is rusting through yet again. Toyota corporate doesn't want to do anything about it and told me to work with the dealer.

First the auto door locks stopped working, then the passenger window and finally the drivers window. We were told the actuators needed to be replaced and would cost appx $500 each plus labor!

Took truck in for inspection mechanic said frame is rotted out toyota said that there's no recall pending on this vehicle

First noticed the steering "tightness" shortly after the undercoating recall. Very sporadic in this particular case so i thought it may be a particular stretch of road i repeatedly commute on. Not the case.looks like another watergate. First a recall for a cord running through the steering column, the a rusted frame recall. Fess up toyota, you manufactured another sub par vehicle, great engineering. Hopefullysomeone will listen to the consumer before this problem causes any tragedies. This truck is now 8 years old with 70000 miles and in great shape except for maunfacturing defects not sure if this case is the steering colums seperation from the dashboard (steering column recall???) or the exposed steering shaft rusting and binding up (rustproofing recall???) or the power steering rack and pinion being rotted out i will call my toyota dealer and see what the repair is and thecost of the repair following that i will forward this to the attorney general, better business bureau, and my local goverment officials

A recall on the frame, their inspection was visual and tap with a hammer. It lookslike it's fifty years old, it so rusty i'm scared of it. The resale value has suffered dueto the oversight of toyota. I would like a new frame.

Gas pedal got stuck on my toyota tacoma when passing.reported to toyota dealership 7/17/09*tw

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact was driving approximately 5 mph when he engaged the brake and the vehicle continued to accelerate resulting in a crash with another vehicle. The contact was uninjured. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 09v388000 (vehicle speed control: accelerator pedal) but was advised that his vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.

While driving n from denver on i-25 on 11-25-2009, speed limit of 75mph, i had the cruise control operating set at a speed of 75-77 mph .there was no feet on either gas or brake pedal.not until i found the tacoma truck cruising at a speed above 90mph did i realize something was wrong w/the truck.i used the brake pedal and disengaged the cruise control and the vehicle came under my control.after re-setting the cruise control to 75 +/- mph, to test the issue, it occurred again.i chose to complete the trip w/o cruise control w/ diligent oversite.

On 02/06/10 i experienced an unintended acceleration problem with my 2008 toyota tacoma x. I was in my drive way an putting my truck in the garage when it accelerated unexpectedly and struck the foundation of my home. A claim was initiated with my insurance company (nationwide) and with toyota. I contacted toyota and was given a claim number. On talkin to the toyota representative a statement of events was given and i was told the case would be passed on to another department. Only once did toyota return my call. As notified after my last contact (03/11/10) the claim is with the legal department and no one has picked up the claim in the 3 weeks. The truck has been repaired thru nationwide and the dealership, but no one can tell me if the vehicle is safe to drive. The dealership has stated that toyota needs to inspect the truck and nationwide has also requested an inspection. A time frame of 30-45 days has been given.

Toyota tacoma 2008please study this accident. It may relate to the gas pedal, so let toyota know to recall this model too so to prevent an another fatal accident like mybrother had.upadat 9/19/2011*cw

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact statedwhile driving 50 mph the black foot rest pad in front of the vehicle broke and got under the accelerator pedal almost causing a crash. The failure was not repaired. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer nor was the manufacturer contacted in regards to the failure. The contact stated that the dealer will charge him for the repairs which he cannot afford to pay. The failure mileage was 58,200.

Pulled into parking lot, turning right. Had foot on brake. Engine went to full throttle, rear tires spinning, jumped curb. Turned key off. All ok after re-starting. Have three witnesses. This is second time in less than 12 months. See 03/2015 complaint. Reported to toyota dealership in march 2015, at stone mountain, ga. They kept several days, ran test, and took pictures. They advised problem is now in the hands of toyota corporation in california." if they are willing to correct, i will hear from them." have not heard anything. This vehicle will eventually hurt or kill someone. I have done all i know to do. Toyota should install brake override system as requested 03/2015 from dealership.the consumer has since experienced sudden acceleration, for the third time. Updated 08/30/16.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that intermittently he experienced unintended vehicle acceleration. He had to shift the vehicle into the neutral gear to decelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the technicians were unable to identify the cause of the failure. The vehicle has not been repaired. The vehicle identification number was unavailable. The failure mileages were 16,200 and the current mileage were 16,900.

Ongoing toyota accelerator surge.this cannot be a floor mat problem unless the floor mats are alive.i have experienced periodic surges after i have been completely stopped for a period of time, like at a stop light.vehicle will move forward but so far the accelerator hasn't stuck causing a crash.

Inching into a parking space in a parking garage...throttle seemed to open all the way suddenly and with only three feet left to the wall the truck hit at full throttle doing 5,246.00 dollars in damage. Front grill; hood; front rt fender;front rt door; radiator; headlight all replaced. Have reported to toyota corporate and told to take to dealership. Took to dealer originally and was told no recall on tacomas. Have had two throttle sticks after while on freeway. Both only lasting 5 seconds or so.

This is a follow - up complaint.stuck accelerator - again. Even after removing the floor mat. Has happened on average 2- 3 times a month. Car dealer does not know of a fix,, they can not replicate the situation that causes the malfunction. This problem is still ongoing and is my only means of transportation to work. An accident waiting to happen.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while he was driving 5 mph into a parking space the engine revved excessively and the vehicle accelerated and crashed into the front of a restaurant. There were no injuries. A police report, case#2010-001110 was filed by the madison county sheriff department. The toyota manufacturer stated that there was nothing wrong with the contact's vehicle and to have it towed to the dealer for inspection. The failure mileage was 49,300.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while driving approximately 3 mph the driver of the vehicle removed her foot from the brake pedal when the vehicle suddenly lunged forward. The contact stated the failure occurs while completely stopped as well. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000.

I was stopped at a traffic light when i felt the brake "give" and then the engine began to accelerate. No amount of pushing on the brake would stop the engine. The tires were smoking and squealing and the vehicle was lurching. Only shutting off the engine stopped the racing engine. The floor mat was not involved.

I was a passenger in my friend's 2008 tacoma truck on 1/31/10. We were travelling from culpepper ,va. To charlottesville when we pulled into a gas station and mcdonalds.as we pulled in the gas station we made a right hand turn and then a left hand turn pulling into the parking spot at normal parking speed(~ 5mph) . As the driver put on the brake to stop it felt like theabs adjusted to the slick surface and slid a little. This is when the front wheels locked up and the engine revved and the back tires started to spin very fast.at this point the truck climbed the concrete parking barrier, crossed the side walk, revved faster while the driver had his foot on the brake and put the truck in park. It proceeded to climb over a 2ft wall, crossed the bushes and crashed into the mcdonalds store front.this happened so fast and it seemed that the acceleration was stuck and the engine was revving and the back tires were spinning and pushing the truck forward. There were 3 of us in the truck and witnesses in the mcdonalds.

Our 2008 toyota tacoma prerunner experienced uncontrolled acceleration on 1/15/2008.we filed the event with nhtsa (refer to odi 10248942, nhtsa action number dp08001 for all detail).that petition was denied.note that, in nhtsa's response, there is a significant error in the vehicle year (the vehicle is 2008).the problem we experienced on 11/15/2008 has not repeated as of this date, but we are certain that we are still exposed to high risk of recurrence.in view of recent developments with toyota (multiple recalls, etc), we request that nhtsa reconsider our case, and approve the petition, because a significant problem does in fact exist.thank you.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that upon applying the brakes and stopping, the engine attempted to surge forward and there was an increase in engine rpms. The vehicle was shifted into park and shut off. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and they could not diagnose the failure. An unknown repair was performed on the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 28,835.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, he applied the brakes but the vehicle accelerated independently. The contact had to apply an immense amount of pressure to the brakes. The contact steered the vehicle onto a curb to avoid traffic and then crashed into a construction sign. The vehicle was restarted and operated as designed. The vehicle had not been diagnosed by a mechanic. The manufacturer was notified and stated they would dispatch someone to inspect the vehicle. The contact was still awaiting the inspection. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 104,000.

While moving at a speed of about 25 mph or less on a crowded surface street, a traffic light turned red, and when i took my foot off the accelerator to brake, the engine of my toyota tacoma suddenly revved up to a very high rpm.i jammed the brake down to the floor and because of the distance between my truck and the car ahead, i was able to stop my truck before hitting the car, but my rear drive tires were squealing and the truck was shuddering. I shifted into neutral and turned off the ignition, successfully ending the incident.after a few moments, i restarted the truck and, without further incident, was able to drive the truck to a dealer located a short distance away. My tacoma is not on any recall list. Have other incidents been reported for this truck?

Driving downhill @45mph and let off the gas but it accelerated even more, put brake on and still didn't slow down, once down the hill it finally kicked into gear..it does this regularly, almost daily.seems to not kick into gear, especially 3rd and 4th gears.

Was in line at"starbucks" drive through window had sudden acceleration events 2 times in a row. Acceleration was at high rpm and left rubber burn marks on "starbucks" driveway. I stepped on brake fully for both events. I stopped the engine with ignition key for both acceleration events. The third time i startedthe engine it returned to normal slow rpm.went to toyota dealership maintenance supervisor. They had never heard of anything like that happening. Said they could look at the truck but if it did not happen for them i would be charged for their time.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated within a few days of receiving nhtsa recall campaign id number : 09v388000(vehicle speed control:accelerator pedal); she experienced the vehicle lunging forward when she was at a traffic light. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who advised her that they repaired the recall and would not offer her any assistance. A few months later she received a recall in regards to nhtsa campaign id number 11v148000(tires:pressure monitoring and regulating systems) and was advised by the dealer that she doesn't have the tires specified in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000. The vin was unavailable.

I have recently experienced 2 separate occurrences of sudden unintentional acceleration in my 2008 toyota tacoma.the first instance was on february 25, 2016 at approximately 12:50 p.m.i was slowing to stop at a major intersection behind a vehicle.in the last several feet prior to stopping, i began breaking with my foot until the car was within about 10 feet of stopping.completely out of the blue, the rear wheels started spinning wildly and simultaneously my engine rpm increased tremendously.in order to keep from hitting the car in front of me, i stomped hard on the brake with two feet.when i realized i wasn't going to stop, i quickly shifted the gearshift into neutral.the rpm settled down and the tires stopped squealing.i then shifted to park until i composed myself.when the light turned green, i proceeded to shift back into drive and continued on to work without further trouble that day.the second instance was on february 26, 2016 at approximately 5:10 p.m.i was returning home from work and pulled into the driveway to park the truck.as i pulled toward the end of the driveway, i had slowly accelerated up the slightly inclined driveway, then slowly started to press on the brake pedal to stop.just as i stepped on the brake to stop, the same thing occurred.my rear wheels started spinning wildly and the engine rpm shot up very high. I put both feet on the brake pedal to stop the truck from entering the back yard, but the tires were laying rubber on the driveway.i quickly shifted to neutral, then into park, and turned off the key.the truck has sat in the driveway since because i am scared to drive it.the truck was purchased for my son to drive after he received his license.fortunately, i had not yet turned the keys over to him,as an inexperienced driver, he would have possibly been killed in an accident, or killed someone else.

Purchased a 2008 toyota tacoma truck in october of 2007.one month later i had an acceleration issue while picking up my son.i was unable to brake the truck to a complete stop.causing me crush my mother-in-law garage door and the front of my new pickup.in all i was without a vehicle for one week while having the repairs completed, and my insurance premium went up forcing me to find a better rate through another insurance company.my mother in law had to have repairs to her garage after being compensated from my insurance company.i pressed the brake down as hard as i could and yet the truck continue moving forward.

I am a mechanic for 5 years. My wife always drive the truck. Never me. On jan 27 the problem started when i start entering the freeway or speed up. I have to step on gas to the metal. I noticed there is a electronic or sensor delay on the gas pedal. Causing me to really bottom the gas pedal. By that time i reach ideal speed. I let go of the gas pedal then there is another problem the truck does not stop immediatelyor decelerate because the sensor has a delay. I have to step on the brakes very hard. I explained this to the dealer few days ago.but told me my truck is not part of this recall. Right now i tried to put some lube on the joint of the pedal but it is electronic-problem compare to cable and spring. Once you release the pedal it will decelerate on its own.pls help me and have this recalled. The computer or the speed on the throttle sensor should be real time. From themoment you step in the gas the sensor should immediately send to computer to go accelerate. When release it should immediately send to computer split second decelerate.that delay is causing issues of safety. Now i have to tell my wife to give enough space because the truck seemed to be very heavy fighting the deceleration delay process and weight plus brakes.in california drivers will cut you off.

My accelerator stuck two different times during a recent drive to work.though i believe it was due to the floor mat problem that has prompted the recent recall, my attempt to get answers from the local toyota dealership prompted a response that toyota hadn't figured out how to fix it yet and they were drilling holes in the back of the mat and using zip ties to secure the mat to the front of the seat frame.that was not how i wanted if fixed.attempts to contact toyota of america resulted in lots of recorded messages and nothing more.i have yet to receive any official recall notice, but, having had the two frightening experiences, i feel the problem needs to be addressed immediately by the manufacturer.and it needs to be more than instructions to remove the mat.

My toyota tacoma will suddenly accelerate from a dead stop. I was stopped at a stop sign and the engine sped up; i had both feet on the brakes, back wheels spinning. I put it into neutral and it went back to normal. Another time i was backing into a parking space and it did it again, in reverse! again, neutral stopped it. This has happened 3 times and i'm afraid i'm going to kill myself or someone else! no, i did not have a foot on the accelerator and the brake! this happens after i've had the cruise control on, then turned it off. And again, it happens from a dead stop. I have a complaint numberfrom toyota. The dealer did diagnostics and couldn't find anything wrong. So toyota will do nothing. I am contacting you to make public what we are experiencing with my tacoma in case of a horrific accident. Toyota needs to stand behind what they sell. I have always maintained my truck; this is not due to my negligence. It is due to toyota's. I need my truck fixed before someone is hurt or killed by it.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma.while the vehicle was in neutral, the engine revved highly.the contact attempted to shift into park, but was unsuccessful.he shifted into drive, but the engine still revved and the vehicle accelerated to approximately 25 mph.the contact depressed the brake pedal and the tires squealed.he was finally able to shift back into neutral and then into park.the failure occurred only once.the dealer and manufacturer have not been notified.the current mileage was 9,053 and failure mileage was approximately 8,500.

On feb. 30,2010 i and 2 passengers were riding around in my 2008 toyota tacoma pick-up truck in 4 wheel drive. There was snow on the ground and we were out checking out the neighborhood. We drove about 2 miles, visited two restaurants looking for my boat mechanic. When arriving at second restaurant, i was pulling into a parking space traveling approx. 5mph when i discovered the truck wasn't stopping or slowing, i stood on the brake and it kept pulling! we went straight into the wall of the restaurant. I cut truck off, gathered myself, cut truck on and backed out of the wall. My front seat passenger said wow, i saw you pressing the brake pedal hard, but the truck just kept going, what's up with that? i told him i did everything i could, it just kept pulling like it had a mind of it's own! so i shut off engine again, the manager of the restaurant came out and asked if we were all ok. I told him we were not injured and i was sorry for the wall. I went inside and called the police and my insurance company. I explained in both reports that the accelerator kept going even with the brake fully applied. Insurance company told me to take it to the body shop for repairs, i am waiting to get it back, but no one has advised me about the acceleration problem. I don't want this to occur again, someone could be killed or injured. I feel wronged by this incident, i take exceptional care of my vehicles, and this was my retirement truck. Now it has lost my trust, as well as lost resale value because it is now a wrecked vehicle, all this through no fault of my own! toyota should replace my truck with a new one without defaults such as this, i paid cash for my truck, 28k as well as buying my wife a toyota solara convertible. I have placed alot of money and confidence in this company.

My tacoma truck experienced an unintentional acceleration issue at an intersection stop sign.the truck went about 8 ft past the stop sign as i pushed hard on the brake.with the vehicle stopped the right rear tire continued to spin for a few seconds and left a black skid mark in the road. As quick as the incident started the truck returned to a normal idle.this was the last of 3 incidents: 1) april 20, 2013 2) nov. 1 20143) as stated above.toyota claims there is nothing wrong with my truck.

On 08/24/08, my husband and i purchased a 2008 toyota tacoma truck.on 12/22/2008, he was coming to a stop at a traffic light behind another vehicle.suddenly, without warning, the engine seemed to engage at full throttle.his right foot was not on the gas pedal, but on the brake pedal as it should be while waiting for the light to change to green.startled, he put both feet on the brake pedal as the acceleration of the engine seemed to overtake the ability to brake.the truck lurched forward and hit the car in front which stopped the momentum and killed the engine.the acceleration and power of the engine was so great that this all happened in about 3-5 seconds.when he restarted the engine, everything seemed to be fine as the trucks computer seemed to reset itself.he reported this to toyota and asked that the truck be checked out.when we went to pick up the truck at hooman toyota, where a factory tech came to inspect it, he was told that the braking system was fine and acceleration system (pedal linkage) was fine as well.he was even told that the floor mat was unhooked and probably got stuck on top of the accelerator pedal.the floor mats were not unhooked when we dropped off the truck. My husband tried the floor mat on top of the pedal while stepping on the brake and the rpm did not go up much at all, certainly not enough to overpower the braking system as the tech suggested.we believe there was a computer malfunction and not a mechanical malfunction which was that the tech checked out.the case manager was informed of this before and after the inspection.after the recall notice on tv in august, we removed the floor mats from the truck, a second incident occurred 10/19/09 (with no floor mats) which did not result in an accident.we, again, brought the truck into the dealer and it was, once again, cleared to drive with no issues.there is clearly a huge problem with the vehicle and we are scared to drive it. Please help!

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma purchased brand new less than a year ago. She stated the driver was traveling at speeds of less than 20 mph approaching a parking garage when he released his foot from the accelerator pedal in an attempt to brake. The pedal became stuck in position causing the vehicle to accelerate at speeds of up to 70 mph. The contact attempted to depress the brakes, to no avail. He thenreached down and forced the accelerator pedal back into the idle position by yanking it with tremendous force. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where they advised the vehicle was operating as it was designed and that although the floor mats were installed correctly, they should be removed. The contact did not feel this would remedy the fact that the accelerator pedal became stuck in the open throttle position without any interference from the floor mats. There were no repairs made to the vehicle to date. The failure and current mileages were approximatley 19,419. The vin was not available.

Sticking accelerator pedal.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma.while attempting to park the vehicle, it accelerated out of control.the vehicle drove through the wall of her garage and into her guest bathroom.the vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it currently remains.the speed was unknown.the failure mileage was 7,100.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that his rpms increased excessively and the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration. When the vehicle accelerated he shifted into neutral gear and drove to the side of the road to turn the vehicle on and off so that it would resets itself. The vehicle was driven to his residence and the dealer was called to retrieve it. The toyota manufacture was not called. The failure mileage was 17,000.

Gas pedal got stuck on my toyota tacoma when passing.reported to toyota dealership 7/17/09*tw

This has happened on four (4 ) occasions. The first two ( 2 ) i was not sure that it was driver error, i am now positive that was not the case.approaching a red light i have removed my foot off the accelerator.as i get closer to the intersection i applied the brake, my vehicleaccelerated. I was stopped and my rear tires were spinning( the pavement looked damp ) i shifted to neutral .the tachometerwent to four thousand (4000). I pumped the accelerator a couple of times and the engine returned to normal operations.i am waiting for my day off to return the vehicle for serviceassuming they can duplicate the problem?2/22/10 2009*dt updated 02/24/10. *ljupdated 03/01/10updated 08/18/10

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. While driving at approximate speeds of 55 and 60 mph, the contact removed her foot from the accelerator pedal and the vehicle continued to accelerate.she was able to bring the vehicle to a stop by applying pressure to the brake pedal. She then noticed that the accelerator pedal was wedged beneath the floor mat. The dealer stated that there were no failures and refused to performa diagnostic test. The contact confirmed that she had experienced unwanted acceleration on several occasions and assumed it was due to driver error. The failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage was 20,000.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact was attempting to enter a parking space with the brakes depressed. As the contact removed his foot from the brake pedal, the engine exhibited an abnormal increase in rpms and the vehicle proceeded to accelerate slowly. The contact applied the brakes but to no avail. The vehicle then accelerated over a curb and crashed into a building. The contact noticed skid marks from the rear driver side tire that indicated that brakes were depressed during the failure. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer. The contact stated that the vehicle was not repaired because the dealer was unable to determine the cause of failure.the failure and current mileage was 39,000.

I called toyota today to file this complaint to no avail after waiting 2.5 hrs. As the dealer has no fix on this problemmy 2008 toyota tacoma truck. When you stop you have to really bottom the breaks down. Once the air condition compressor engages. The truck moves and hops. To avoid it. I press brake hard.also when you release the brakes to go.you dont have to step on the gas. It accelerate on its own.most cars it accelerates very slowly. You need to press on the gas pedal to move that fast.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the engine rpms would race abnormally while sitting with the brakes applied at a traffic stop. The contact stated that the failure would recur in succession and the contact would shift into neutral in order to stop the failure. The vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 09v388000 (vehicle speed control:accelerator pedal) but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact then spoke with the manufacturer but received no assistance.the failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 39,000.

A car was stopped at a traffic light ahead of me.as i approached the intersection i applied the brakes as i normally would.the vehicle acceleration increased.as i put more pressure on the brake pedal the vehicle continued forward, striking the rear of the vehicle ahead.a police report has been filed. Most damage was to the front of my tacoma with minimal damage to the rear of the official car ahead.

On 01/04/2008 i was stopped at a red light in traffic. I was stopped approximately 10 feet from the rear bumper of the vehicle in front of me. While stopped my vehicle, a 2008 toyota tacoma double cab began to accelerate violently. I proceeded to put both feet on the brake pedal in an attempt to stop the vehicle. I could not stop the vehicle and it rammed into the stopped vehicle in front of me. My 2008 toyota tacoma continued to accelerate for approximately 10 feet. The acceleration was violent and the truck was "fishtailing" from side to side due to the fact that it was pushed up against another vehicle and i had both feet on the brakes. The truck eventually shut off but not before i rammed the car in front of me, the impact was so severe i bent the steering wheel with my chest. I suffered injuries to my chest, neck and shoulder. Internet research has shown that my experience is not an isolated one with this model truck, toyota tacoma.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. While driving 5 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning. I had to go get dogfood so drove to store 2 miles away, upon returning home pulled into driveway to park in front of garage were i have parked for 14 years. As i applied the brake the truck accelerated forward hitting the garage. It happened within seconds and i applied the brakes as hard as i could.took truck to toyota to have it checked and they found nothing wrong,so it was off to the toyota body shop for repairs to the sum of $3300. This is my forth toyota tacoma and i love these trucks but now i'm very concerned that the next time someone could get hurt or killed.

2008 toyota tacoma trd off-road large, sudden, unexpected increase in engine rpms while stopped at a red traffic light.i had just come to a complete stop at a red light when the engine suddenly began to roar.when this happened, i was not able to keep the truck from moving forward by applying additional braking pressure. A man who was about to cross the street in front of the truck heard the noise and jumped back onto the curb to avoid being hit. The truck proceeded through the intersection and approx. Another 100 feet before the rpms returned to normal and the vehicle came to a stop. I was very fortunate there was no cross traffic at the time this problem occurred. Approx mileage is 10k.please note the following:1 - my foot was on the brake, not the gas pedal, and i do not drive using both feet, and my shoe size is 8.2 - the floor mat was lying flat on the floor when this was happened.3 - i am very familiar with the slight increase in rpms that happens when the air conditioning cycles, and this was several orders of magnitude beyond that.this is the 5th toyota pickup i have owned in the past 12 years, and the only one to have this kind of this issue.there is something wrong with the design of theses trucks and it causes an extremely dangerous situation when it occurs. I was well aware of the complaints you have received from others for this very same problem, long before experiencing it myself.

2008 toyota tacoma upon slowing and applying brake, vehicle suddenly accelerated and brake could not stop it.the tires were spinning and vehicle was vibrating, tires were smoking.it stopped racing when ignition was turned off.

Immediately after purchase, in oct 2008, during a cold morning, set cruise control, but not in overdrive, hit acceleration pedal, vehicle began to speed out of control. This has happened twice.resolved by disengaging cruise control. Have not duplicated situation, and no more incidents occurred.i notified capitstrano toyota in ca, but not on list of vehicles recalled.i tried to email with online form, system won't allow me to submit issue.i tried to call toyota, not taking any calls.

I was driving my 2008 toyota tacoma home from work. I was about 15 minutes from home when my truck immediately accelerated to 70-80 mph (unintentionally!). I live in a very mountainous region; it was very hard to keep my truck under control in the curves. I was pushing the brake pedal all the way in, but it wasn't slowing my truck down. I began going down the mountain praying the whole time...there is a traffic light with 2 gas stations at the intersection. Fortunately there weren't any cars in front of me and the light was green. I shifted gears (automatic transmission) down all the way to 2nd. My truck wasn't slowing. I was thinking the entire time that i was going to hit someone and there wasn't anything that i could do about it. Not a good feeling to say the least. I finally got my truck stopped right on the side of the road. A lady came running out from a building that works for the atlanta journal constitution to make sure i was okay. She said that she saw smoke and thought that my truck might be on fire. I immediately called my parents. My dad started to drive my truck.i was driving behind my dad and immediately saw my dad take off in my truck...with the brake lights on! i was terrified that my dad was going to wreck. My dad was able to turn it off and get it off the main road. We called milton martin toyota and they had a tow truck pick it up the next day. They kept my truck for 5 days and gave me a rental car. The service department said that they put 50 miles on my truck and it didn't do anything out of the ordinary.they said that i needed to pick my truck up and return the rental car! there is no way i would drive it again or knowingly let someone else drive it when it will do the same thing when you least expect it! we are talking about peoples lives here. People need to know about this issue so lives aren't lost! so currently i am without a vehicle and my 2008 tacoma that has 13, 400 miles on it is sitting on milton martin toyota's lot.

Truck unintentionally accelerates when braking

I want to file a class action law suit cause my husbands life was taken do to his truck having defects and was just now recalled. I was coming up to a two way stop my foot was off the accelerator at about 12 miles an hour when the engine started to accelerate i started to brake but engine was revving so high it pushed my truck into the path of a semi before i got the truck put into neutral luckily no car was coming in the opposite direction so the semi driver went into the other lane and avoided a bad accident which might have killed me. Called the dealer said bring it in right a way, will up date with results later.

I was driving my 2008 toyota tacoma westbound on fm 1960 east of huffman texas when i accelerated to pass a slower vehicle and the gas pedal stuck to the floor.after reaching a speed over 90 mph and closer to 100mph i began braking and moved to neutral and then began to slow. Being a two way, 2 lanes (total) highway i am fortunate there were no westbound cars or cars im my same direction. My wife and family friend were very upset as well because for 15 seconds we could not stop.i immediately removed the floor mat believing that was the cause.

I purchased a new 2008 toyota tacoma in september 2008. The vehicle had right at 3000 miles when the malfunction occurred. On december 19th, 2008 i was on the way to work when my vehicle suddenly accelerated and lost control, causing me to rollover. The vehicle was still accelerating after the rollover and i had to jerk the gear shift into park to get it to stop. At that time the vehicle made a grinding noise and began to smoke.

I have a 2008 toyota tacoma that i bought new in summer of 2008. I have had the accelerator pedal fail to return to the idle position on two occasions. On both occasions i was coming to a stop when the incident occurred and was able to stop the vehicle with the brakes but the vehicle surged ahead several feet before stopping. I did report this to the dealer but was told they could find no problem with the accelerator pedal.

I own a 2008 toyota tacoma truck.i have had problems with the throttle surging when the air conditioner is turned off.i took it to the dealership and they could not find anything wrong.i still continued to have problems but then, on may 11, 2010, i was going to park the truck behind our motorhome which had a car caddy attached to it.as i turn into the space, the throttle stuck and i ran into the car dolly.i immediately shoved into neutral and turned it off. My car dolly took the impact. I looked down to make sure my foot was on the brake and it was. I then had the truck towed to the dealership on may 12 and it has been sitting there since.

The dealer advised the vehicle was under recall pertaining to the floor mats, but not the recall for the sticking accelerator pedal (see nhtsa campaign id number: 09v388000, vehicle speed control:accelerator pedal) which the contact believed to be the cause of the failure. He stated that there were no floor mats in the vehicle. There were no repairs made to the vehicle to date. The failure mileage was 10,227 and the current was 23,363.

Rain water/drops on door window and mirror glass (also condensation on mirror glass) accumulates and does not clear off (it just sits there) when driving; there doesn't appear to be any air movement across the glass to move the water/droplets. The reduced visibility to the passenger's side mirror makes for a very real hazard when trying to merge or change traffic lanes.this is only an issue during non-daylight hours when there are no street lights to illuminate the roadways and to provide easier visibility to the side mirror..

While driving on a major highway in the rain, passenger side windshieldwiper stopped working due to failed wiper linkage.

The contact owns a 2008 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the front and rear windshield abruptly became detached from the vehicle.

Vehicle stationary in driveway. Tires are the same specs as original tires. When tires are inflated to recommended pressure (door placard) the low tire pressure warning light comes on. I consulted with 3 different toyota dealers regarding this problem. No one was able to give me an answer. Meanwhile, over inflation is required to keep warning system off. What is the correct tire pressure??? over / under inflation is a safety risk. An inaccurate warning system is also a safety risk.
