Dt: without warning and at anytime the air bag light goeson and off, and the horn blowsout on its own. He had to disconnect the battery because of the horn. Dealer said they would charge the caller for looking for the problem. Manufacturer has not been contacted yet.

The air bag light would come on only when the vehicle was cold. After i warmed the truck up & stut it off, upon restart every thing was normal. Had diagnostics done at westboro toyota& found faulty air bag sensor. Charged me 85.00$.dealer wanted 425.00$ to fixsensor & i refused.i called toyota & they refercened me back to westboro toyota. I talked to rick tonnilli at the dealer.he was very understanding & told me he was going to talk to the district manager.i was called back in a few days with toyota picking up the cost of the part & i picking up one hour of labor@ 85.00$.i agreed to this just to the problem fixed.westboro toyota has been very excellent & cooperative & i have no complants from them. My qustion is that with the light on the air bags may not deploy in an accident. This would to be a major safety problem?

A crash occurred at an intersection where my vehicle broadsided another vehicle that had pulled out in front of me.i was travelling at approx 50 mph and when we hit it caused the other vehicle to roll over onto it's top.neitherfront drivers side or passenger side airbags deployed at anytime during the accident.

The fire department advised that the fire was caused by an electrical failure. The manufacturer was not contacted in regards to the failure.the failure and current mileage was 200,000.

An electrical short or open circuit can cause a fault in the genuine toyota trailer towing wire harness converter which can cause a failure of the converter, and if a trailer is being towed at the time, non operation of the trailer lights, in limited cases, the converter housing could becomeheat deformed,,,, there is a possibility this fault may cause check engine light to activate,,,,, this situation usually happens when vehicle is in motion on city streets ,highwayturning etc, ,e.j.

Vehicle caught on fire sitting in driveway for two hours after last use. Fire was extinguished with extinguisher. Sport city toyota would not take the vehicle on trade until after a letter from gulf state toyota declared there was no fire. Determination was made by teir inspector. The service manager at sport city was aware of the fire. Sport city would not take the vehicle on trade due to concerns of assuming liability. Toyta national refuses to recognize there was a fire. Traded the truck at a different toyota dealership (fowler toyota). First appraisal form noted the truck had been on fire. That form was destroyed andnew one was issued with no mention of the fire. Toyota and its dealerships have done their very best to cover this up. I will be pursuing other avenues to recover my losses.

Was at the beach on feb.13 th at around 11:00 pm and the gas pedal seemed stuck and couldn't get it stopped had to run it in sand bank.

Engine seizure at 45mph without warning! i changed the oilevery 3000 miles.i own a 2000 toyota tacoma 4x4 with the v-6 engine in question! the truck had 80,000 high way miles on it when the engine siezed without any warning! toyota mortor corp. Said sorry we cant help you. It cost me $5000.00 dollars to have the engine replaced, at least i am happy to say its back on the road again. I have been a loyal toyota owner for over 20 years and my truck engines typicaly ran well over 200,000 miles without any problems. I am pissed about toyota's responce. My next 4x4 truck will be a chevy!!!!!!!!!!

Crank case pulley cracked and the bolt that holds it to the crankcase snapped inside the crankcase--this is 6 weeks after transfer case was leaking, and have also had the rear axle seal replaced 3 times--this is all in a 2 1/2 year period.

While driving oninterstate crank bolt broke and fell throughradiator. Also, belt stuck topower steering.

Dt: the contact stated while driving at55 mph heard a loud exploding sound coming from the engine. Thevehiclestalled, but he was able to pull off the road. The hood was opened to check the engine. And when the oil filter was removed, the contact discovered a hole in the side of the engine inthe size of a quarter.the manufacturer was contacted, who advised the contact to have thevehicle towed to the dealer for inspection. The dealer would not inspect the vehicle without payment first because the vehicle was not under warranty.the vehicle has not been repaired due to theexcessive cost. Before this incident there were noproblems with the engine.

Brakes - grinding & shuddering, steering wheel, "ping" noise in engine.

At speeds above 35 mph, and on de-acceleration only, a loud squealing could be heard from the rear of the vehicle. It only made the noise on de-acceleration. Had to bring to the dealer twice to get fixed. Dealer was stumped and only found a faulty oxygen sensor. That seemed to be the problem.

The contact's daughter owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the check engine indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to auto zone where it was determined that the o2 sensor needed to be replaced. The contact's friend was repairing the vehicle and noticed rust on the bottom of the frame. As a result, the contact's friend was unable to tighten the sensor completely, which caused fumes to enter the cabin of the vehicle when driving. The contact called lou fusz toyota (located at 10725 manchester rd, kirkwood, mo 63122, (314) 966-5404). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 136,000.

It's dangerous to drive truck with low beams on. All light is focused 20-30' in front of truck. No scatter light goes beyond that. I've almost gone through intersections on dark roads. Joggers and schoolkids suddenly appear in front of the truck on dark mornings. High beams are fine. I think there will be a lot more accidents and pedestrian injuries with these headlights.

Date of 2nd failure:03/01/2001.mileage of 2nd failure:9965.turn signal failed to activate on both left and right turns within 5 minutes of initial morning startup.driver attempted to activate a number of times for both left turn and right turn but the signals failed to illuminate.

(actual incident date:01/02/2003 ->message to nhtsa:update your incident date pulldown, 2003 not listed!):on 05/14/2001, turn signal was replaced (courtesy) as precaution from previous driver noted failures.sometime early spring 2002, driver noticed turn signal malfunction one morning, after that none occured until 01/02/2003 at 10:15am.driver tried to engage and disengage turn signal multiple times but turn signal failed to operate.driver had to use hand to signal turning to reach destination.turn signal malfunction has never occurred with such magnitude as it did with this incident.approximately an hour later, upon returning to vehicle, turn signal worked fine.since then no problems yet with turn signal.approximate mileage of failure:25,600.in addition, the floor of the passenger side always gets wet/damp when vehicle is washed or when it rains.end note:will bring to dealer to investigate 01/06/2003.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the door locks, windshield wipers, and brakes failed. Also, the rear axle fractured and the bumper detached from the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the toyota of the desert dealer (located at 68105 kyle road, cathedral city, california 92234; 760-328-0871) where it was repaired. The contact was unsure of all the repairs that were made. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The vin and failure mileage were unknown.

Frame rust perforation per toyota 1995 through 2000 toyota frame rust corrosion perforation warranty enhancement (customer support program) was conducted on my truck last year (september 2010). The local toyota dealership inspected and said it was ok. Today they conducted another frame inspection and said the frame was perforated and would not pass the safety inspection. I asked to see a digital photograph of the frame damage and was told none were available. No offer was made to put the truck on the lift for me to see for myself. I drove home very carefully, pulled the truck in the garage and had a look, does not look safe to me. Appears the left front rear axle leaf spring mount / chassis frame could fail causing the axle to separate from the vehicle. Perhaps this is more serious than a "customer support program"!

On 12/05 i noticed something hanging from underneath my 2000 toyota tacoma pick up truck. When i got down to pull it out, i realized it was rust from my frame, that has completely rusted through. I called toyota consumer services, spoke to a gentleman who was very rude, telling me that i had missed the warranty extension time limit and because i didn't register my new address with them, they wouldn't do anything. First, the truck was paid for when i moved. Second, it is up to them to notify me and this can be done via the registry of motor vehicles, as has been done in the past with another of our paid for vehicles. Third, i never received a notice that stated my warranty was extended do to rusted frames for 1995-2004 tacoma's. Toyota recalled over 700,000 trucks, so clearly they are aware of the issue. There are hundreds of complaints on line and videos on youtube about this.this truck in in great shape and i planned on using it for at least another 100k miles. It has been maintained well and rides great. This is the 11th and last toyota, i have owned. I am appalled and amazed that toyota will not take care of this safety issue because of the age of a vehicle.

My leaf springs are broken and not replaceable due to rusted casters attaching to a rusted frame.corporate toyota tells me i can have it fixed but every dealer tells me that my truck is not included in the toyota rust campaign.i have found literature online that includes my vin but no dealers will help me. I just bought this truck in january of this year for 7500 and am now out 7500.

Vehicle accelerates without touching the gas pedal.automatic transmission continues to push vehicle forward once foot is removed from gas pedal during braking ,causing long braking distance and excessive front end dive.

Have taken back to dealer 5 times.fts tech says that all 4 cylinder tacomas with automatic transmissions surge/skip this way.

Consumer put vehiclein park, andvehiclerolled thirty feet and struck another parked vehicle.

I purchased a toyota tacoma from one eleven vitage cars on 01-16-01. They however did not disclose the fact that the vehicle had a missasembled rear axle which was causing rear brake problems at highway speeds .i have given the company several attempts to repair the vehicle under said warranty, only to find out that vehicle had this problem prior to my purchasing it. The dealer also had notice of this problem prior to me purchasing it . This may also be documented

Dt:while driving about 65 mph, with no warning whatsoever the right front drivers side tire came off the vehicle.upon inspection of the tire, the ball bearing, rotor, etc was there but the shaft was broken in half.no accident occurred.mechanics observed that the shaft had broken in half and had never seen anything of this sort.no repairs have yet to be made.infect, the rotor and the ball bearing, nut are still on the tire.

2000 toyota tacoma, rear axle seal failure every 25 to 30000, seal replaced 6 times in 107000 miles.toyota refuses to pay for repair.

While traveling on a residential street another vehicle ran red light and ran into consumer's vehicle. Upon impact, airbags didn't go off. The clutch failed prematurely. The drive shaft fell off while the consumer was driving. The vehicle experiences vibration.there was one injury.

Oncevehiclewarms updrivetrain area makes different ringing noises everytime consumer is inecond/third or fourth gear. It's an irritating loud noise.

Vehicle was going 30-35mph and rear ended another vehicle.seatbelt gave away upon impact, causing consumer to hit his head onwindshield. Vehicleat dealer for inspection.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the front driver's seat belt was unraveling itself. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they stated that the contact must have spilled something on the seat belt. The manufacturer was notified and offered no asssitance. The manufacturer also stated that the warranty was expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 206,000.

The driver's seat appears to either 1) not be fastened securely to floor, or 2) have a faulty component which allows movement between the seat bottom and back rest. I have taken the truck to a nearby dealership five tmes. The repair work only provided a temporary fix. The problem is accompanied by a loud creaking noise similar to an old door on rusty hinges. Toyota's customer assistance center has assigned a case number 200009110317. They have not responded to my last written complaint.

Consumer was involved in a front end collision at 35 mph and seat belt did not work properly after slamming on the brakes, consumer was still able to be thrown forward, and hit his shoulders and chest. Contacted dealer, and dealer was going to take a look at the vehicle.consumer also stated that the air bags failed to deploy.*yd

The seat belts regularly detach without warning whether the vehicle is parked or moving.

The drivers seat is not fastened securely to the floor.the rubber grommet brakes into pieces leaving the seat track to move up and down freely.also, the drivers seat back has 2 to 3 inches of play.possibly due to the seat track movement.i fear that the seat will not support me in case of an accident. I have had it repaired once already and in less then 2000 miles it has broken again.i noticed something was wrong at about 15000 miles but did not find the problem until 50000 miles.i contacted the dealer, case [xxx], who said it is out of warranty.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I am concerned that nothing is in place to prevent rear seat passengers heads from striking the rear window. Vehicle is sold with "child restraint system"however, nothing is in place to stop someones head from striking the glass in case of an accident and during acceleration. I have written before and not received any kind of response from you or toyota.

Rear seat passengers heads strike the rear window. If i were to be rearended by another vehicle, an occupants head will go through the glass.

Consumer was sitting ondriver's side and leaned over to adjust passenger's side seatback, andwhole seat went flying forward. Force ofseat causedconsumer's head to hitdashboard. Consumer will contactdealer.

Reportproblem with the braking system of my toyota tacoma (2000).the initial problem as defined:as i begin a trip, the brakes operate correctly.the abs system light is not illuminated.frequently, when applying the brakes at any given time during a single trip (usually at speeds of 5 to 25 miles per hour), the brake pedal feels as if it is skipping, there is a clunking noise coming from the front of the vehicle, and the vehicle does not slow down as expected, until i pump the brake pedal several times.at that point, the abs light comes on and there are no more problems braking for the remainder of that single trip.at the time of service, i was informed that there was an issue with the abs and that there were two parts which need to be replaced:left side front speed sensor at a cost of $255.43abs actuator at a cost of $1207labor $240since the vehicle only has 66k miles and there was no chance that driver error could have caused these parts to be faulty, i requested the dealer elevate this problem the toyota area representative for cost coverage of repairs.this request was declined without explanation.the dealer's stand was that the vehicle is out of warranty.my stand is that each time this happens, i can't be certain of my stopping distance which makes my vehicle vulnerable to strike aanother car in the rear.the first time this happened, it was extremely scary to say the least.i was fortunate to not have another vehicle in front of me.to respond to the dealers point, even if my vehicle was under warranty, had there been a car in front of me, personal injury to myself or passengers in the other vehicle could have been eminent.

When coming to a completestop the driver would press on the brake pedal, but the vehicle wouldsurge forward.

Parked on an incline and vehicle cut out during three attempts to pull off in first gear and suddenly the vehicle is drifting backward with no braking at all, and pedal locked in the up postion.can duplicate!with key in ignition and engine off, brake pedal locks in up position and braking system will not stop vehilce.without key in ignition manual braking works!with key in the acc postion, and vehicle not running, power brakes locked in up position and no braking possible!!!turn key off, take key out of ignition, and manual braking stops vehicle!!power braking appears to disable manual braking, even with power brake inoperable due to engine being off, either turned off or conked out!!

This vehical and i think many other toyota vehicals falsly show a dash light to indicate a brake system problem when there is no problem. When i took it to the dealer they said the brake fluid was low but it was between the min/max levels indicated. I pressed the dealership and they admitted that the fluid level had to be at the max mark or the dash light would come on and they said that they have a bunch of people come to the dealership due to this false indication. In my opinion the vehical should not give a false indication of trouble with the braking system when the fluid level is correct. I think many people are wasting time going to the dealer due to this manufacturing defect.

When braking, there was a grinding sound and braking distance was extended. Dealer replaced front calipers and rotors at 42,000 miles.at this time the grinding sound can be heard again when braking, dealer found no problem and only replaced brake pads.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. While attempting to drive he noticed that the brake pedal had fallen to the floor. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection.the technician stated that the rear brake line needed to be replaced.the current and failure mileages were 91000.

The truck has frame corrosion that makes the car illegal to drive. In 2010, it was recalled for this issue. I brought it in to a toyota dealership in 2010 and 2013 for the warranty. Based on a letter i received from toyota, toyota was supposed to buy back the vehicle if corrosion was present or spray corrosive resistant compounds (crcs) at no cost to me. The dealership did neither. I was under the impression they sprayed crcs because that is what we discussed at the dealership. Turns out they did not spray and six months after the warranty ended the frame was deemed so corroded by an oil change mechanic at an independent business, i can no longer drive the vehicle. Toyota and the toyota dealership will not address the letter they sent me and the fact they did not spray crcs as discussed. The vehicle is very unsafe, i did was i was told, and the dealership is negligent if following binary rules of the warranty--replace the vehicle or spray crcs. The dealership claims "they had no responsibility to do anything" but a letter i received from toyota says differently. The vehicle was serviced regularly and ran well and has no issues but the frame makes the vehicle unsafe and inoperable. The frame of the vehicle is no collapsing as well. The frame is rotted through.

While driving oninterstate crank bolt broke and fell throughradiator. Also, belt stuck topower steering.

Loose steering wheel shaft (internal)

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle dropped with a loud noise. The contact discovered that the axle was fractured. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the axle, lower ball joint, upper ball joint and tie rod would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 198,164.

2000 toyota tacoma.consumer writes in regards to popping noises- discovers leaf spring /frame corrosion.the consumer stated the frame on the vehicle was rusted. The manufacturer did not offer any assistance.updated 05/05/2017

The frame on my 2000 toyota tacoma has rusted through.i never got any info about a recall but there is one for my model.my mechanic told me the frame could break at any time.

I'm the owner of a 2000 toyota tacoma. Toyota has made a recall on rusted frames on years 95-2000. My truck has a repaired title which they say voids the warranty. The truck had no frame damage what so ever and was not rolled over, only cosmetic damage. I have pictures and documents showing what was repaired. I have a wife and two children that i don't want in the vehicle when it decides to break in half. There should be some exception if evidence is provided that the damage was light or had nothing to do with frame.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. While driving various speeds, the leaf spring fractured in half. In addition, the frame was rusted out. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage and vin were unknown.

I have a 2000 toyota tacoma, frame is so rusted its not safe to drive. Toyota says they cant do anything to resolve issue. Something has to be done!!! toyota needs to take responsibility for there mistakes, and fix these recall issues before someone gets hurt!! i have bought toyota's all my life never had any issues until now, these rusty frames are unacceptable!!!

This truck was check out at a toyota dealer in 2014 or 2013 i do not recall the date but they said the frame and suspension is ok but as of 6-2017. They frame is very rusted and i am afraid to drive this vehicle any more . And i am afraid to sell this to any body for safety issues ,

My 2000 toyota tacoma has "extensive" rust damage to its frame and suspension system.this truck was purchased in kansas and has since moved with me down to georgia.i noticed on the web that the rust on the frame of the truck is a common concern/defect from toyota.i am inquiring to see if there is a recall on this and how i should go about trying to get this fixed.the engine and all of the vital components work fine, it seems a shame to get rid of a vehicle that is still in good working condition, other than the rust problem that is.

Vehicle parked in driveway and drunk driver hit 2 vehicles, totaled one & 99% on toyota. After repairs, repairman made statement that we had rust on underside and we have been trying to find out moreabout the problem and how to fix it.just this month a friend told us about the recalls and how to find outmore.wefound the recall and was given a case manager and told that it was a warranty and it expired and the next day the article on the recall was no longer on the internet.

Toyota voluntarily offered to replace structural frames that prematurely rusted. I was never notified of the recall and my frame is so badly full of hoes that driving it is dangerous especially with a load.i must continue to drive my truck and must suffer the risk of an accident. I've reached out to two dealers and toyota and all have refused to help me.when the accident does occur i'm sure toyota will regret not talking to me.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the frame of the vehicle was corroded and fractured. The contact stated that the corrosion was on the rear leaf springs of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate vehicle failure mileage was 250,000.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that he took the vehicle in for a recall repair for verifying if the frame was rusted. The repair was done between 2010 and 2013. The unknown dealer sprayed the frame with an undercoat after insuring that it was not rusted. The undercoat was supposed to protect frame from any future rusting. The frame was not rusted prior to the coating being applied. The contact became aware that the frame started to rust while washing the vehicle at under the rear fender wells on both sides of the subframe. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 150,000.*dt

I took my vehicle in for a recall concerning the frame rusting through and breaking in 2011. The dealership decided to spray the frame with undercoating rather than fix the problem or reimburse me for my vehicle. Know the frame has completely broken on the drivers side and is no longer safe to drive. After looking at the damage it is clear that the dealer simply sprayed over the rusting frame to cover up the damage rather than fix it. I drove this vehicle for several years not knowing the danger that i was putting myself and family in. Know my vehicle is unsafe to drive and toyota is offering to give me a meager $1,000 towards a new vehicle. This is nonsense considering they knew the issues with this vehicle and did not fix it properly when they should have. I don't have several thousand dollars to put into a new vehicle when this vehicle should have lasted several more years. I have pictures that show i take great care of my vehicles (outside/inside look new) and the only issue is due to the manufacturers negligence. I feel that toyota should take responsibility for their fault and fix my vehicle. I'm not looking for a handout but want them to do the right thing. Toyota should fix this issue as it is no fault of my own.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. After the vehicle was taken to be serviced for routine maintenance, the technician stated that the frame of the vehicle was rusted and deemed the vehicle unsafe to drive. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was previously serviced under a toyota safety campaign for the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000. Updated 07/19/16*ljconsumer stated the frame perforation treatment was done on 6/22/11 at crown motors. While consumer was getting and oil change on 8/20/14 at valvoline oil the service man informed the consumer that the truck had a significant amount of rust on the frame and notice rust peeling off the truck. On 6/24/16. Consumer had the truck grease and oiled at the local repair garage, the owner told the consumer truck was not safe to drive. Repair shop owner called crown motors and the main office of toyota and both said they wouldn't be willing to do anything about it.updated 6/19/18

Do to an error by toyota, the frame on my very well mantained tacoma is almost unsafe to drive do to thethe corrosion on the frame, maybeone more year.my truck has only 80,000 miles,no suface rust, engine runs great.i know i'm not alone why is toyota alowed to get away with this? there are owners all over who toyota refuses to help, and make things right.trucks are breaking in half help!!!

The frame is rusting out. Toyota knew they had a manufacturing defect and offered an extended warranty. Their notification campaign did not reach us in time. Toyota will not honor their extended warranty. The vehicle is unsafe to drive.

Frame rust recall. I was never notified of the recall for this vehicle. I talked with the customer service at the corporate office in california and it was confirmed that i never received any notice to my address. The upper level management denied my right to have the truck fixed. I have spent 1400.00 dollars tofix and keep the truck on the road safely. The recall ended early without notice. I have receipts from my dealership of the repair. It was brought to my attention when routine maintenance was being performed. That started my inquiry with toyota.

Right front wheel collapsed and vehicle fell to the ground. Mechanic initially stated this could be repaired, but once he inspected the underside of vehicle he indicated that the frame was too rusted and the vehicle was no longer usable or repairable.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. The contact noticed that the entire frame of the vehicle was fractured. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted at 800-331-4331 and stated that the vin was not included in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 118,124.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. While stationary, the undercarriage of the vehicle became severely rusted and corroded. An independent mechanic noticed holes in the frame and stated that the vehicle was not drivable due to the rear axle becoming loose enough to potentially fracture. A dealer was not made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and provided the contact with case number: 1710310166. The manufacturer stated that the nhtsa campaign had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.

Frame cracked on driver side of truck. Upon inspection the entire frame is rusted through.

My toyota tacoma was on a lift, and extensive rusting of the frame was noticed, including two holes (one passenger side, one driver side) anterior to the rear wheels.i stopped by the toyota dealership and they gave me the number of toyota customer care. Toyota customer care told me their was a recall that ended in 2011. When i told them i never received a recall notice and that i was the original owner living at the same address for almost 30 years, i was told the sometimes they notify the department of motor vehicles! to me at least, this is "passing the buck," shirking their responsibility. I was given a case number, and i emailed the ceo of toyota north america. I have not as yet heard a response, as it is the christmas and new year holidays. I plan to pursue this with my attorney. There should be not "statute of limitations" on safety.

I when for oil change on my truck, upon lifting the car i was told by the mechanic that the frame is very rusted and has wholes on it and it will be a safety hazard to drive it like that and that there is a potential that the frame could break while driving.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. While driving 10 mph, the leaf spring on the rear driver side fractured and separated from the vehicle. The contact stated that the rear subframe of the vehicle was extremely corroded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed and inspected. The contact was informed that due to the severe corrosion, the vehicle was not repairable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.

The frame is rusted to the point it is unsafe to drive 140,000 miles on vehicle

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. The contact observed a brown piece of metal hanging underneath the vehicle. When the contact looked under the vehicle, he noticed that the entire frame bed was rusted out without warning. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the recall had expired. The contact stated that he did not receive a recall notice. The manufacturer did not offer any assistance. The failure mileage was 175,000.

Frame corrosion safety recall oct 24 2011. Dealership applied corrosion treatment that did not solve the problem. Passenger side rear frame corrosion has caused shock mount to break off causing vehicle instability. Other section of frame also compromised by corrosion in spite of dealership ok.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. While the contact was getting the tires changed, she was informed that the rear frame was severely rusted. The contact took the vehicle to a body shop and was informed of an unknown recall regarding the rust on the vehicle. The contact called mike johnson's hickory toyota (located at 435 us highway 70 se, hickory, nc 28602, 828-330-9538) and was informed that the rear frame needed to be replaced. The repair was once covered under a warranty enhancement program that advised dealers to coat the frame with a rust coating to prevent rust from forming. The contact was also informed that the warranty was expired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed what the dealer stated. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000. *ln

The whole frame is rotting out with perforation of the metal, it's falling apart.i'm able to poke holes in the frame with my finger and the rust goes along the whole weld line down the frame on the underside as well as holes throughout the sides of the frame.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. When the vehicle was taken in for an oil change, the dealer noticed that the passenger side frame was fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 78,740.

My tacoma was brought to toyotaworld newark in nov. 2011 for a rust problem and they coated the frame with corrosion preventive compound and promised that the coating would fix the problem. In nov. 2015 it was brought in again because rust was present. Dealership would not do anything because it was out of warranty by 3 months (toyota knew my vin, yet did not notify) toyota never recalled 1995-2004 tacomas even though they bought back and conducted frame repairs on some vehicles through those years. I bought this vehicle in may 2017. There was some rust but it didn't look like it was that bad. Last week i notiiced 2 cracks in the frame, one on the left frame and one on the right frame. I took it to shore toyota in nj and they said it was under warranty (because work was done in 2011 and the 15 year warranty applied from the time rust was an issue) and they would call me about a rental car the next day. When they didn't call, i called them and they said it wasn't under warranty. I asked if they would give me an estimate and i wanted to have my tacoma fixed there. They never called back. Again i called to follow up. Larry, the service manager, said that it was inspected, they wouldn't fix it, and it was unsafe to drive. I wrote on their service invoice that 'shore toyota refused to do work on frame when i offered to pay out-of-pocket.'when i asked for a photocopy of the invoice, they refused. Complained to toyota customer service case#1803132713. Supervisor did not return my call.bottom line: i've been driving in a vehicle that could have resulted in the death of me and my loved ones. Toyota knows that the frames of their 1994-2004 vehicles (800,000 of them) are defective. Yet, toyota has never recalled these vehicles. They should be repaired, bought back, or replaced by toyota. How many individuals will have to be injured or die because this problem is not addressed?

Hit a bump and vehicle lost suspension control.hit ditch and flipped.airbag didn't deploy.

The frame on my 2000 tacoma 4x4 corroded and the right side leaf spring holding the the rear axle on is shifted moving the whole axle several inches backwards on the right side, on the verge of detaching completely.my beloved tacoma is undriveable, and craigslist in kansas city won't let me sell it since it's a safety hazard, even though i fully disclose everything wrong with the frame, and include excellent photographs. Some people may want to restore the frame and have the means to do so.i contacted toyota u.s.a. And was told i'm to late for recall:july of 2015 was my deadline, 15 years from the day it was purchased by someone, allowing unlimited miles, and unlimited owners. Toyota should allow a recall of all of there defective products at anytime! the tacoma only has 206,000 miles on it, mechanically is excellent, aesthetically, being a metallic earth green, is, i hate to say the word now, beautiful.i'm very fortunate a serious motor vehicle accident didn't occur with my toyota tacoma, before the defective corroded frame was discovered at my mechanics shop during yearly inspection.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. While the vehicle was undergoing a tire change, it was observed by the dealer that the rear subframe of the vehicle was severely rusted. The dealer stated that the entire frame needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 137,524.

Frame is rusting through.despite toyota deeming it unaffected, and applying a coat of undercoating to it for free, it is now rusted through.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for routine maintenance where it was informed that the rear frame was corroded and needed to be replaced. The frame has excessive rust. The current recall on toyota frames for the 2001 models needs to be extended to 2000.

My frame is rusted really bad and my front motor mont is rusted away

I purchased my 2000 toyota tacoma in 2000. In 2008 i received a recall noticed from toyota in reference to a frame issue. I took the truck to toyota and the service tech advised me that the truck was fine. In april 2016, i noticed that my rear leaf spring was no longer connected to the frame because the frame has rotted. My local dealership could not help me and advised me to contact toyota. I made a claim with toyota and they advised me that i am past the 15 year warranty with the frame. I believe i should have received a new frame back in 2008 when the recall was active.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic for scheduled maintenance and noticed a hole in the frame at the rear shock mount area. There were also numerous severely rusted spotsthroughout the entire frame. The independent mechanic forewarned the contact for approximately three years of a possible failure with the rust on the frame. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.updated 10/07/16*lj

In november, 2007, i noticed a banging noise whenever i drove over the smallest of bumps.i examined the outside & the underside of the 2000 toyota tacoma truck i had been driving since new, & found the following:#1, the truck frame is severely rotted with jagged, sharp, irregular, penetrating holes in the frame - up to 6 inches in length.#2, the underneath inside of the truck frame box beams are covered with corrosion & large pieces of frame have "flaked off"!#3, the severest corrosion extends from the "cabin front area" to the rear leaf springs, on the driver's side.similar but slightly lesser corrosion extends on the passenger side of this toyota truck.#4, one rear "cabin mounting block" on the frame, on the driver's side, has totally disintegrated, dropping the cabin down about 1 inch, directly onto the frame causing my banging sound!the passenger's side rear "cabin mounting block" on the frame is about 75% disintegrated! i fear this truck might have become unsafe in an accident, due to the poor structural integrity of its frame.it was purchased new, locally, never even partially submerged in water, & never abused.it was always inspected & maintained by the local toyota dealer, yearly, i bought it from.it was never in an auto accident, & the only damage it ever suffered, accident wise, was a fender being struck by a deer. Please note that this 2000 toyota trucks exhaust system is still intact & original!i would expect this trucks frame to outlast an exhaust system, at the least! something is definitely wrong with the steel &/or fabrication of this particular toyota tacoma's frame, calling forth a safety question. This truck, at the time, had 97,361 miles on it.it was purchased new 7 yr's ago! i contacted the toyota dealer with these facts, with a request for a "frame inspection", the dealer said the truck is "out-of-warranty", & cannot be repaired!

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while having maintenance performed, the technician discovered that the frame was completely rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 132,000.

Last summer, 2009, noticed that my brakes, which were only a year old, seemed to not be operating efficiently. Upon inspection of the vehicle i discovered gear oil had been coming out of the rear axle, spraying all over the passenger side brakes and tire. I had to replace the rear axel seal and ruined brake shoes. Bought the vehicle toyota certified used in december of 2003.recently in 2010 i noticed that my frame appeared as though it had a lot of dirt on it, so i tried to spray it off with a high powered washer, it turned out to b rust not dirt. I recently moved to california and i am still settling in, when i hear a loud banging sound coming from somewhere under my truck. I wondered if it had anything to do with the rust so ityped in rust and toyota on google and discovered a customer warranty program issued by toyota on 1995-2000 model tacomas for rust perforation. I was never notified and my car is still registered in one of the applicable states, pennsylvania. I contacted customer service and took the car to be inspected, the dealer said my car passed rust perforation test but could not locate noise. I was shocked as the noise is unmistakable. After leaving the dealer i took the car to a friend who knows a little more about vehicles then me, we crawled under the truck and he was able to point out a broken leaf spring that appeared to be rusted and grinding heavily into my passenger side shock. The dealer let me drive off their lot with my truck like that and the leaf spring is attached to the frame which they claimed to have inspected! not only this but the tech also checked off suspension as green! this is extremely dangerous, what if the broken leaf spring had swung in the other direction and jabbed into my tire? toyota is not offering to fix the problem under the warranty despite the fact this broken leaf spring issue is well documented across the nation.

2000 toyota tacoma frame rust - i have owned this truck for ten years always getting my service done at darcars here in frederick, md.i decided to take my truck to a new mechanic and to what i have found my frame is rusted.not only rusted but falling apart, i was told that my truck was a safety hazard to drive and that i should not be driving it because it could fall apart at just hitting a pot hole.the corrosion was that terrible.i immediately contacted darcars in frederick, md and was told to bring it in tomorrow.did they not hear my say that it was a potential life threatening death trap to drive.unhappy with my response i went to darcars immediately after picking my truck up from my new mechanic.i left my truck at darcars and had to go rent a car on my own until they look at my truck tomorrow hopefully sometime before noon.here now i have had to pay 267.00 out of my account to get a rental car.until tomorrow i have no answers.why do i feel like i have been punished for something that they are in the wrong for.i love my truck.had it for years and darcars could not see after servicing my vehicle for 10 years that my frame was nearly nothing but rusted metal with holes in it. They sure did find other things wrong with my truck that needed to be fixed.a true mechanic, a person you trust to make your car safe to drive let me drive a vehicle around that could have potentially killed me and the life of my daughter of 11. How sad are these people?i am very dissatisfied with the service i have received from toyota and the communication concerning my vehicle.the are not concerned for anyone's safety.so i am left with no vehicle, one that i just paid off and now i have nothing.maybe that is ok for some but for me it is totally unacceptable.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma.the contact heard about an issue with the frames on the 1995-2000 toyota tacomas.he consulted the manufacturer and dealer and they confirmed the 150% buyback option, but would not confirm the process.he asked the dealer if the frame could be replaced and was informed that it could not.the contact was convinced that the frame could be replaced and wanted to have it done instead of trading in the vehicle.an independent mechanic stated that the frame was "soft" and not structurally sound.the current and failure mileages were 66,276.

In 2006, the gas pedal broke away from the firewall in our 2000 toyota tacoma. The dealership claimed there was nothing they could do, with no referrals. We took it to our mechanic who welded on a metal plate to attach the gas pedal. In 2008, we received a letter from toyota corp. Extending the warranty for rust and corrosion on the frames of toyota tacomas years 1995 through 2000, with a buy back program. Repairs were to be done to get the smog done, but our mechanic stated that the damage from corrosion and cracking were too dangerous for us to drive it, that the throttle will break next. He claimed the reason was the metal was not tempered right at the manufacturer when the truck was built. We took it back to the toyota dealership, who told us that they saw the cracking and damage, and never had seen something like that before, it did not fall within the warranty guidelines. They only said they could offer us a 'deal" for another vehicle, which we refused. Our mechanic claims that the undercarriage in the front will not withstand a collision. Incidentally, the gas pedal broke away while i was driving on the freeway! updated 01/21/09.

Premature frame deterioration.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma.the contact noticed excessive rust on the frame and called the dealer.the technician stated that they would not repurchase the vehicle because it was classified as a level three rusting hazard.they would not repurchase the vehicle until it reached a level four, which meant that the frame was rusted to the point that the vehicle was non-repairable.symptoms of level four are holes or fractures within the frame.the manufacturer would not assist.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 120,000 and current mileage was 140,000.

Toyota released a service bulletin for 1995-2000 model year tacomas due to frame rot.i've have spoken to many people who have had their tacomas bought back by toyota to avoid potential safety risks.toyota has refused to repurchase my vehicle because it has a salvage title.i fear rsk of fire should i be hit in the rear and my frame fails due to a manufacturing problem, having nothing to due with the salvage title.

The frame on my 2000 toyota tacoma has rusted through.i never got any info about a recall but there is one for my model.my mechanic told me the frame could break at any time.

I purchased my tacoma new in 2001 and recently i heard of a recall concerning the frame of the vehicle, so i took my truck to glenn toyota in frankfort ky. I was told that the frame was bad after they checked the frame by hitting it with a hammer and putting a hole in the frame. I was told they wouldbuy back my truck for 1.5 times the blue book value. We done some paper work when they realized my truck was a 2001 instead of a 2000.i was then told they would neither buy back my vehicle nor fix my truck they put a hole in. I filed a complaint with toyota and i was told they did not have to fix or buy back my truck because it was a ?voluntary recall?. This allowed them to no longer honor any part of this recall which includes not fixing nor buying back the trucks with frame problems that are newer then 2000. I was also told i had waited too long from the time the recall was first issued. I was in the militaryduring the issuing of this recall. During my military obligation i spent a year in afghanistan and a year in iraq. Clearly i was not in a position to hear of the recall nor bring my vehicle into a dealership. Not only is this business practice not fair (doing one thing for one customer and not offering the same deal to the next), but toyota clearly knows there is unsafe vehicles on the road and does not want to fix their mistake. Toyota has made the decision that if the vehicles from the years ranging 1996-2000 failed the same test that my vehicle failed it was unsafe and should be bought back. I know that this must be a safety concern or toyota would no longertest the vehicles from 1996-2000 still.i am very disappointed how toyota has handled this situation, especially since i work for toyota motor manufacturing of kentucky (tmmk), and i feel toyota should be held accountable for the vehicles they are selling.

Heard rattling sound from under pickup. Checked and saw corrosion of frame. Brought to mechanic who said truck is unsafe to drive, total frame corroded by rust, total frame rotted out.

The frame on our 2000 toyota tacoma totally rotted out. It passed 2006 state inspection and after being maintained by a toyota dealer it was deemed unsafe to drive and would not pass 2007 state inspection. There are gaping holes in the frame on the inside. The truck had to be salvaged at 7 years old. Other make and model trucks of this age are not anywhere near this condition. Why is toyota not liable to inform tacoma owners of this defect. We retained pictures of the extreme damage to this particular truck.

Letter from senator kerry on behalf of constituent re his concerns with extreme rust in the frame of his 2000 toyotatacoma truck *tgwthe frame was compromised due to the severity of the rust.

My 2000 toyota tacoma frame is rotting prematurely. Large pieces of frame are falling off of vehicle. I know of many 99/00 tacoma's that are rotting and someone may be killed. Rot is occurring mostly in north east due to severe winters. Toyota will not admit that 7 year old tacoma's are posing a safety hazard in the snow belt. I have pictures of a tacoma that had huge holes in the frame and it could not be salvaged.

Frame is rusted through leaf spring went inside the frame rails.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the frame of the chassis was corroded. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 123,000.

Took truck to mechanic. Vehicle has 240,000+ miles. Frame is rusted out and all associated parts, i.e. Brake cables etc.and unsafe to drive. Truck is in california, subject to ocean air/salt. California not one of states under frame recall/replace for rust. Many toyota forums with complaints from other similar owners in "non-recall"states with excessive frame rust. Mechanic showed me a 1993 ford pick up with nearly no rust on frame. Toyota should apply the recall conditions to all states, not just those that use salt on roads. I am 3rd owner and never received any recall notice. For safety, toyota should have notified all owners, whether vehicle subject to recall or not.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for maintenance.the dealer showed the contact a small hole in the frame of the vehicle, located in front of the rear passenger side tire.she was informed that the 1995-2000 tacoma's had undercoating failures.the dealer stated that they would call her and kept the vehicle from march 21-28, 2008; however, the contact never received a call.she retrieved her vehicle and returned the loaner that was provided on march 28, 2008.the current mileage was 136,205 and failure mileage was 136,204.

Broken driver side rear leaf spring. Inspecting underbody to assess parts list and found the vehicle frame rusted through in a 2 -3 foot span from just aft of the driver seat to the rear leaf spring bracket. Heavy flakes and pieces of rust breaking off and frame almost rusted away near the leaf spring bracket that has cracked and near falling off.

We have a 2000toyota tacoma sr5 xtra cab, 4 x 4.the body is in excellent condition.it went in for routine service today and it was found that the frame rails have rotted.the frame is unsafe and because of this, we will have to get rid of the truck.it is our understanding in talking with the dealer, it will be going to the salvage yard, it cannot be repaired. This is very frustrating to us as the owners of the vehicle, it only has 37,000 miles on it!we are very fortunate that nothing has happened with this vehicle while it was being driven.the frame rotcould result in serious l injury or death.

I have a 2000 toyota tacoma and have been affected by a recall. The recall is for excessive frame rust. I would like to know what my options are. Can i press for a repair and refuse a buy back? i called the dealer from my cell phone approx a year and a half ago and they stated no recall existed for the 2000 toyota tacoma.the issue is similar to nhtsa reference number: 10379995 while the vehicle was at the dealer to have a corrosion resistance product applied to the frame the technicians notice the frame was rusted.

Brought my 2000 tacoma extended cab 2wd pu in to midas for a muffler replacement. While on the hoist the technician noticed extreme rust on frame rail that had broken through on the driver side rear. The structural integrity of this vehicle with only 87k miles on it is now threatened. Have read that this is now being reported by many people. Truck is in excellent condition otherwise.

Had a recall in the past for frame rot. Was told that it may still apply.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma.during a routine inspection, the contact noticed that the rear passenger side inner frame rail was corroded.the corrosion destroyed the steel on the leaf spring shackle.the dealer stated that road salt caused the failure.as of october 11, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle.the vin was unavailable.the current and failure mileages were 115,312.

While traveling on a residential street another vehicle ran red light and ran into consumer's vehicle. Upon impact, airbags didn't go off. The clutch failed prematurely. The drive shaft fell off while the consumer was driving. The vehicle experiences vibration.there was one injury.

While having a tire repaired, mechanic noticed a broken shock absorber mount. Upon his attempt to repair, he found severe frame rust, with insufficient metal remaining to reattach the mount. After an appointment with the local toyota dealer, i was informed that the frame was unrepairable, and that since the "put in service" date was feb 2000, i was too late for the extended warranty program. Apparently, if i had found the problem 5 months earlier, i would have been eligible for a buy-back. As this is a serious safety issue, i can not understand the manufacturer's time limitations. I am the second owner, and other than the frame rust, the truck shows no corrosion. I have never received any notice of frame rust problems, or the inspection and extended frame warranty offer from toyota. Since getting the bad news, i have found numerous similar stories online. This was an admitted manufacturing defect, and definitely is a safety issue, as the frame can collapse or suspension components can break loose. There are thousnds of these vehicles in daily use, and the manufacturer should be responsible for the repair, replacement, or buy-back.please help!!!

Brakes - grinding & shuddering, steering wheel, "ping" noise in engine.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. While driving approximately 60 mph, the front passenger side lower ball joint detached and caused the tire to blow out. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The dealer was not called. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 270,000.

Hit a bump and vehicle lost suspension control.hit ditch and flipped.airbag didn't deploy.

The vehicle was towed to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the axle, lower ball joint, upper ball joint and tie rod would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 198,164.

After receiving a recall notice for a rusted frame in 2008 our 2000 tacoma was inspected and said to be ok. Recently the vehicle was making noise in the rear end, so we brought the vehicle to a mechanic, who informed us there was significant rust to the frame and the back suspension mount was completely detached, leaving the truck unable to be driven.the inital noise was noticed while the vehicle was driving straight on a highway.

The frame has excessive rust. The current recall on toyota frames for the 2001 models needs to be extended to 2000.

Frame rusted into pieces and broke offwas now informed there was a recall about it .i was not informed. Drove into ditch .towed home and welded back together for now .

Purchased truck used.have since found out that there was a campaign on the rear for rust thru.mine is completely rusted thru, broken.dangerous to drive as per body shop.toyota offers no assistance -how can they not?supposedly this one was inspected in 2011 and was ok.there is no way that it was ok in 2011 and is now broken, rusted thru and cannot be driven.the rear end shimmys so bad due to broken components, rusted thru, that it is a danger to driver and other motorists.

This truck was check out at a toyota dealer in 2014 or 2013 i do not recall the date but they said the frame and suspension is ok but as of 6-2017. They frame is very rusted and i am afraid to drive this vehicle any more . And i am afraid to sell this to any body for safety issues ,

Problem: defective rear leaf springs.on 4/27/05 had right rear leaf spring replaced, mileage on veh. 51261on 7/18/06 had left rear leaf spring replaced, mileage onveh. 56,586both leaf springs needed replacement because they rusted so badly that the steel bands which held them together broke. I was driving on an interstate hwy each time a leaf spring broke.i was very lucky that one of the leafs didn't swing into the rear wheels, if so it would have caused a serious accident.i purchased the veh. New, i'm the sole driver, it's used solely for transportation , never used for construction or off road purposes.i believe toyota used very poor quality steel in making these leaf springs & bands or a poor heat treating process to strengthen the steel or both.thanking you in advance for your time & consideration on this matter.p.s.toyota did replace the first leaf spring as a goodwill gesture, but didn't replace the second one.

My frame is rusted really bad and my front motor mont is rusted away

The frame rusted through due to defect in manufacturing causing truck to bend like a banana and posing a great safety hazard. When in motion the danger is that the pickup could veer in any direction, causing the driver to lose control and leave the road or cross into oncoming traffic.happened over years; discovered 3/29/17

When applying the brakes at low speedsvehicle experiences excessive vibration in the steering wheel, a loud noise can be heard and vehicle jumps. Vehicle has been taken to the dealer twice. Dealer stated the problem was normal, acharacteristic in toyota vehicles.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. While driving 15 mph, an abnormal dragging noise was heard coming from the rear of the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the lower ball joint failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact mentioned nhtsa campaign number: 05v225000 (suspension). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 177,000.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while his son was driving at 30 mph, the front passenger's side wheel detached from the vehicle without warning. Due to the failure, the passenger's side front end of the vehicle struck the pavement. The vehicle was towed to a private residence. The contact reached out to vann york toyota (500 eastchester dr, high point, nc 27262) and was informed that the vin was not under recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to a lower ball joint failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

Had a recall in the past for frame rot. Was told that it may still apply.

Rolling motion when driving at highway speed on various road textures.dealer/manufacturerwere notified, and were unwilling to assist, consumer isseeking help from nhtsa in this matter. . consumer is having a rear sway bar installed in attempt to correct the problem. *yd

I received a letter around 2008 regarding frame issues with my 2000 toyota tacoma.took it to metro toyota in kalamazoo, mi to inspect it and they said it was ok.years later, i see that the frame rotted near the leaf spring on the driver's side.

The vehicle rocks and sways back and forth like it's going go totally out of control at various speeds.it is worst in windy conditions.the dealership has replaced all four shocks and has had the truck on three different occassions.they said they contacted toyota and was told not to do anything else.the dealership acknowledges there is a problem, but will not do anything else under the warranty, because toyota said not to.the vehicle is very unsafe to drive at this time.it is my only means of transportation.i hope that you can please help me.i don't know what else to do.this is my 3rd toyota truck sense 1988.talking to the service rep and test driving it with one of there mechanics and them all saying there is somthing wrong with the suspenion and also changing the shocks to try and alieviate the problem, but yet refuse to do anymoreto fix the problem, is something i don't understand.i hope that you can help me.thank you.

While driving 75mph car swayed right to left.since the purchase of the vehicle, consumer has noticed the vehicle had a left rear to right front sway on rough surfaces.consumer feels this vehicle is of poor design that will result in an accident.*jg

In the past 23 months the ball joints have failed, causing wheels to fall off, on both sides of my 2000 toyota tacoma.the first was the passenger side which in september 2006.at that time the vehicle was moving at very low speed causing minimal damage but requiring over $900 in repairs.second was the driver side in august 2008. This time the vehicle was moving downhill at under 40 mph on gravel road when the wheel fell off [taking axel, break line and cv joint with it].the tacoma slid out of control for more than 100' before coming to rest.towing and repairs to get the truck back on the road came to $1,053.there is some additional damage in the wheel well and the door is not fitting properly but that has not been examined by a repairman as of yet.

My driver side mirror is hard to focus and i am writing this because this is very important and i am in danger by driving a truck without the driver side mirror, so far i was going to have two accidents. I also asked some people to drive my new truck to see the mirror, incase i was wrong, they did and found out that the mirror is defective. About ten people tested the mirror and said the same thing. That should show that it's not just me. Please help me solve this problem either by having government engineers look at the mirror or in some other way.

Suspension is defective.whenevervehicle hits a bumpvehicle will rebound twice. Shocks will bounce off of bump, instead of controlling it.it is very dangerous under serious wheather conditions, and can cause consumer to lose control ofvehicle.

While driving 35 mph third leaf springfailed . As a result, therear driver's side shock absorber broke.

While driving, suddenly there was cracking, thena metallic clunking noise. The consumer slowed the truck down, drove home and parked the truck.the next morning , the consumer could visually see the broken leaf spring, because the spring was sticking into the gas tank, but didn't penetrate. The consumer contacted two dealership who indicated that this is a common failure with these vehicles. The consumer feels that the spring broke because of a design flaw, due to the springs being assembled in correctly. If the truck was towing a trailer at the time of failure, this could of resulted in a roll over.

The rear end of the vehicle collapsed, which caused the vehicle to sway.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. While driving approximately 60 mph, there was an abnormal shake from the rear end of the vehicle. The contacted discovered that the drive line failed from the rear end. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the front line, springs, and shocks needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

The truck began to make a loud banging sound from the rear of the vehicle.i found the left (drivers side) leaf spring had broken and then twisted and wedged underneath the skidplate to the gas tank.i had to use a chisel to get the broken spring out from under the gas tank.

Rear leaf springs broke, causing loss of control and rear suspension failure.

While driving 35 mph third leaf springfailed . As a result, therear driver's side shock absorber broke.

Three weeks ago i purchased a 2000 toyota tacoma prerunner with firestone 265x75x15 wilderness at tires on it. At the time of purchase i questioned the dealership about the safety of the tires and asked them if the tires on the truck were affected by the recall that was in place. They told me no it was just the smaller 235x75x15 tires that were on recall and the other ones were safe to use. Well one week ago i was washing my new truck when i noticed a small crack going all the way around one of the tires like where the carcass and the tread would meet, upon further inspection i found that all four tires had a crack going all the way around the tire in the same spot between where the tread meets the carcass of the tire! the following monday i went to my local firestone dealship like the toyota dealership i had bought the truck told me to do and expressed my concern over the safety of the tires on the truck. They inspected the tires and said that nothing was wrong with them, they're not on the recall list and that if i wanted they would sell me a new set to ease my mind. Well this did not ease my mind. I do not know what to do, even the 6 year 100,000 warranty on the truck does absolutely no good. Please help, i do not want to be another firestone victim.( dot number: w269 tire size: 265x75x15 )

I purchased a 2000 tacoma in the month of july. I have no problems except for the goodyear tires. The goodyear tires have been found defective by sears automotive and toyota and should be replaced asap. For more than a month, i have contacted goodyear regarding the problem, but under my warranty, i took my 2000 tacoma to a local dealer. Miguel perez (1045) - rogers and rogers toyota, phone # (760) 353-9300 attended me and for several weeks confirmed that all four tires would be replaced. As of today my tires have not been replaced, except for one tire, which i was charged $7.50. , i am confident you will want to resolve this issue quickly and thoroughly. I am asking that you to look into this matter as it concerns me and other drivers, since the local toyota dealer stated to me, "there was no more they can do." Truck has vibration and shimmy at all speeds. Tires were replaced at 1900 miles. Truck still has vibration . Tires were balanced 6 diferent times . All of the tires that firestone make have a problem, because the material of construction, methods of assembly, and design of this line are the same.

We purchased a toyota tacoma with extended warranty from toyota of easley in august of 2000. When the truck had about 12000 miles on it, the front tires were wearing irregularly. I called the toyota dealership and they said that the front end needed alignment so i took it back to them to do so. Since the front tires by then were worn pretty badly, i asked them to rotate the tires. They would not rotate the tires under warranty, so i paid them to rotate the tires. They didn't even want to talk about replacing the worn tires. After about another 12000 miles, the front tires have worn the same way again. I called the dealership and they said to bring it in. I told them that aligning the front end did not fix it before and after arguing with them for some time, they told me they would contact technical service and see what might be causing the problem. They were supposed to call me back and let me know what they were going to do to fix the problem. They have not called. It's been about a week and a half. I have called them several times since then and each time was told they haven't heard anything from technical service yet. I called two days ago and the service manager told me again, that he would call meback. I have called several times since then and each time, i have been told that he was out doing a test drive. I have left my name and number and asked that he return my call andas of yet he has not called me back. I presently have a truck that is a year old and has excessive wear on all four tires now and have front end problems that i am unable to get the dealership to do anything about. Can you offer any suggestions?thank you. David loftis.

I brought my tacoma to my mechanic for a power steering leak.my mechanic informed me that while trying to lift the vehicle, the frame started to crumble as it was compromised by corrosion.he immediately lowered the truck and deemed it unsafe to operate.he mentioned that there was a known issue and a recall on the frames as they were prone to corrosion and failure.i then contacted toyota and was informed that the recall had expired and they would do nothing for my vehicle.i was never notified of the potential risk of frame failure, nor was i aware of the recall and it's expiration.i now have a truck with only 175k miles that was well maintained, and due to toyota's poor quality steel is now worthless.how toyota can place a limitation on a serious safety recall is beyond me, but that is what they have done.

Severe frame rust, making the vehicle unsafe to drive.had it inspected by toyota, and they said it was good.a few years later, junk....

2000 toyota tacoma acceleration*grthe consumer stated when the engine is idling, the rate of revolution of the engine can be increased by merely clicking on the heater fan independent of the accelerator pedal operation. The consumer wanted to offer his opinion in regards to the sudden acceleration problem.

I received a letter around 2008 regarding frame issues with my 2000 toyota tacoma.took it to metro toyota in kalamazoo, mi to inspect it and they said it was ok.years later, i see that the frame rotted near the leaf spring on the driver's side.

The frame is rotted in the rear next to leaf spring. There was a recall call on this year at one i was wondering if i could get this frame replaced. Toyota should honor this frame recall on this vehicle.

I have a 2000 tacoma i bought a 3in suspension lift but before i could put it on i seen the frame had rust hole center to rear i went to toyota and they said the frame recalled was over i never got anything about a recall i then got the to estimate the fix would be around $14,000 so i gave them $4,000 to order parts 2 weeks later they sent my money back toyota says they dont make frames for this year that i need to get it welded i took it to a shop and they said its to far along to weld and need to be replaced now i have a truck that can't be fixed

During an annual vehicle inspection, perforations were found on the frame of my toyota tacoma. I was only moderately worried since this issue was covered by an extended warranty issued by toyota. When i contacted toyota to discuss the issue, they informed me that the vehicle missed the 15 year warranty by 11 days and that they would not, under any circumstances, honor the warranty. This particular situation is troubling since it is virtually impossible, within an 11 day time period, for a frame to become rusted to the point of a 3 inch by 12 inch perforation. The frame rot clearly occurred during the 15 year warranty period.

Horn not functioning and fuses are all good !airbag warning light has been on since 2006 will not go off !

While getting oil changed on my 2000 tacoma, which by the way me and my step father are the original owners, the mechanic noticed the frame separating while lifting. We had the frame inspected in the past based on the frame issue letter we received from toyota and the truck passed every time. The last inspection that passed was feb 2011. After the mechanic refused to lift the truck to service it i took it to a toyota dealer for inspection. The frame has holes and is unstable. It's only a matter of a short time before it becomes un-safe to drive. This truck has been for the most part in a garage and only has 75,085 miles. The interior is very good and the body is in good condition and the engine purrs like always. Toyota said there is nothing they can do and i can get a new frame at my expense. Problem is, i can't get the frame from any of the area toyota dealers as it's not available. I now have a very good looking truck with a great motor that very soon i will no longer be able to drive. It's a shame.toyota knows these frames are bad and becoming dangerous to drive but they don't rate a recall!

I when for oil change on my truck, upon lifting the car i was told by the mechanic that the frame is very rusted and has wholes on it and it will be a safety hazard to drive it like that and that there is a potential that the frame could break while driving.

While driving my 2000 tacoma at approximately 60 mph, i noticed it picking up speed on an uphill road. I removed my foot from accelerator, but truck continued to pick up speed to over 60 mph. I then braked, but it did not help. I then shifted into neutral and drove truck into an empty dirt lot, applying also the parking brake and brought truck to a stop.

Was at the beach on feb.13 th at around 11:00 pm and the gas pedal seemed stuck and couldn't get it stopped had to run it in sand bank.

My 2000 toyota tacoma prerunner will lunge forward when i amstopped and my foot is on the break pedal. It happen when a/c is on.

Have taken back to dealer 5 times.fts tech says that all 4 cylinder tacomas with automatic transmissions surge/skip this way.

The contact owns a 2000 toyota tacoma. While driving approximately 70 mph on normal road conditions, the cruise control was disengaged and the vehicle rapidly began accelerating. The vehicle failed to slow down; however, the contact was able to shut the engine off and restart the vehicle. The contact drove the vehicle to a nearby service station and determined that the failure was contributed to the throttle body cable connecter. The vehicle was repaired. The contact has concerns of the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 120,000.updated 12/07/09. *ljupon inspection, it was determined the cruise control cable housing clip had failed and was pulling the accelerator. Updated 12/08/09

The drivers side mirror is defective and made it hard for the driver to focus on what is in the mirror resultingin eye redness and pain.nlm

To: national highway traffic safety administration,i bought a brand new 2000 toyota tacoma prerunner a couple of weeks ago and i noticed that there is something wrong with my driver side mirror. I talked to the service department in the dealership and they changed the mirror for me. The problem is still there. It is hard to focus on what is on the mirror and it bothers my eyes. On the first day i had a red eye and a little bit of pain. After that i couldn't use my mirror. The mirror is closed since i bought the car. I went back to the dealership and they showed me couple outer trucks, it was same ting i asked what should i do they told me that they can not do anything else and i should call toyota. I called there and the day after somebody from the dealership (toni hall) called me and she made an appointment on wednesday 3/8/00 1:30 p.m. To meet somebody from toyota (mr. Fred gilbert). I went there and after half of an hour of waiting and searching for somebody to help me, at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Fred gilbert came. And he decided to test drive the vehicle. He told me nothing is wrong with it (maybe because it was rainy that day and he didn't find any problem or). He said if you want call toyota again. I called and told them the situation, than they sent me a letter (decision remains our final position). Now i am writing this because this is very important and i am in danger by driving a truck without the driver side mirror, so far i was going to have two accidents. I also asked some people to drive my new truck to see the mirror, incase i was wrong, they did and find that the mirror is defected. If i am wrong what abut this people (almost ten persons). Please help me to solve this problem by having government engineers analyze the problem. Thank you.

While driving my new truck on the 5 fwy sun. 10/29/00 app. 4:30 pm. With my sun roof in the open position, without warning, the sun roof blew of the top with considerable pressure. Shattering on the front hood & windshield of the vehicle behind me. This took chips out of the paint & windshield of the vehicle of the 2nd party. Upon presenting this to the toyota dealership whom i purchased from, thier reply was disbelief & that they would not honor the warranty. This is one issue. More serious (which is scary) is this could have been a fatal accident & toyota is denying this accident occured. The lady that was behind will.

Right front wheel collapsed and vehicle fell to the ground. Mechanic initially stated this could be repaired, but once he inspected the underside of vehicle he indicated that the frame was too rusted and the vehicle was no longer usable or repairable.

I would like to make you aware of a problem i recently have had with a 2000 toyota tacoma pick-up.i have 15000 miles on the truck and recently on a long road trip i received a flat due to a nail on the highway.in changing the tire i snapped 2 lug studs.now i have owned truck for 20 plus years and have never snapped a lug off a wheel.i had it serviced and was told it was due to too much torque and still find this hard to believe.i cant imagine that i could give this that much torque with a tire iron to snap off the studs.i feel it is poor quality steel or a failure in the steel design itself.i am very concern for future lugs breaking when traveling and fear a major safety hazard. Please look into this matter and advise me if you have received similar complaints and what can i do to protect my family and me.thank you.
