The airbag sensor won't stop blinking.what if there's an accident and the airbags won't deploy? i believe something with the airbag is defective and may be a potential safety issue.

3 times now i have had the airbag inoperative light illuminate, each time it has been a fault with the air bag cutoff switch, this has been replaced each time. The cutoff switch is never used, despite this it fails the airbag system each time.

My 1999 toyota tacoma was involved in a rear end vehicle collision (the front of my vehicle struck the rear of a vehicle traveling in front of me) at a speed of approximately 40-45 mph.the roadway surface was smooth asphalt at a slight downgrade during clear/dry weather conditions on monday 7/19/2021 at approximately 2:40 p.m. In wythe county, va.neither the driver side nor passenger airbags deployed in this collision and the passenger side airbag switch was in the "on" position.the front end damage was considerable to include destruction of front grille with radiator and other components pushed well into the engine compartment, hood, quarter panels, windshield cracked, and right front wheel joint assembly nearly detached. *vehicle is available for inspection. *complete failure of airbag deployment. *no indication of any airbag system issues with this vehicle. *vehicle component has not been inspected by anyone since collision date. *no warning lamps or indicators prior to collision date. *i am the original and only owner of this vehicle since the purchase date in january, 1999. *vehicle has 329000+ miles with certain parts of the engine being rebuilt in 2017 and prior to collision vehicle was in very good shape.

My truck was recalled for a defective trailer wiring harness converter.nhtsa campaign id number:01e041000.i took the truck to ferris toyota in dover, oh.they told me i had a converter that wasn't recalled.they told me not to worry it would be fine.on 12/28/01 i hooked my trailer up to the truck.before pulling out i discovered that i had no brake lights or turn signals on the trailer.using a test light i discovered that i had power to the converter but not out of the converter.i took the truck to cain toyota where i had originally purchased the vehicle.the gentleman in parts told me that all the wiring harnesses had been recalled.so i wrote the vin number and converter part number (pt207-04980) down and talked to the gentleman in service.he said he was too busy to run the numbers, but he would set up an appointment for me next week to run the numbers and see if it was covered.so, i checked your website and saw that my part number was not listed.i can't buy a replacement converter.mine was discontinued.the dealership said that this is not a covered repair.the upgraded wiring harness will cost me 180 dollars.this isn't counting the labor costs.they won't sell the new harness to me because they say my working on it will void my warranty.yet in almost the same breath they tell me my warranty won't cover this problem.i need to get this fixed, because my trailer is 18 feet long and tall enough to cover my tail lights.if you need more information i'm home mornings from 9am to 2pm.thanks.

1999 toyota tacoma, failing clear coat. Causing truck to completely rust-out.4-wheel drive not installed during assembly.tail light fuse blows out everytime i hook up a trailer

Engine surges at a complete stop while idling and if i don't put enough foot pressure on brake pedal it will lunge forward.it happened so many times i became accustom to the problem

I purchased a 1999 toyota tacoma in 8/2000. The vehicle had a blown engine that had been replaced and had been involved in a minor accident. I bought it from a local auto-body shop for $10,500 where it had been repaired. I have made my living with this truck and have put over 200 k miles on it with no major repairs. It has been trouble-free and i had no thoughts of replacing it. In october 2008, i took the truck to a toyota dealer to be inspected for rust, on the advice of an friend. No rust perforation was found. In august 2011 i received a letter from toyota encouraging me to have the truck re-inspected for frame rust. I did this on 12/30/2011. This time they found rust on the driver's side, on the inside of the frame. The dealer told me that i could not drive the truck without signing a waiver and that the truck was eligible for toyota's repurchase program. I was given a rental vehicle paid for by toyota. On 1/5/2012 i was told the truck did not qualify for the repurchase program because it had a salvage title and to pick it up by the end of the day. I have lost a vehicle with no compensation and no recourse with toyota. There is no relationship between the facts that resulted in my truck having a salvage title and the frame rust. Toyota isn't interested in entertaining the merit of my claim, period. Please help me. I don't know what to do.

While driving, the exhaust manifold cracked. The engine valvesfailed to hold compression.

Engine replaced. *mjs

Driving to my home on thursday, august 4, i heard a rapping noise start in my engine. I had taken it to the garage (d&j auto) the following day. Upon there inspection, they found a hole in the block of my engine. After swapping engines out of my vehicle, i had further inspected the old engine. I had a certified mechanic friend helping me to tear down the engine to find what caused the problem. We had found that a connecting rod had shattered inside the engine (arm that connects piston to crank shaft). I had contacted toyota motor corp. And a few service managers in my area to send a representative to come and inspect the damage. I was told by a certified mechanic that the metal casting of the connecting rod was faulty, i thought toyota would want to verify this by inspecting the pieces themselves. I have not been contacted by a toyota representative as of yet and it has been three weeks and the service managers keep saying; " the engine is out of warranty so there is nothing they can do for me". If i would have been driving this vehicle on a major highway this problem would possibly have caused a serious injury or accident to me or others. I felt since they would not acknowledge me, it should be reported to you. I have documented the damage with digital pictures and i am in the process of having the pieces analyzed by an independent mechanic to determine the exact reason for the failure.

I had a 1999 toyota tacoma.this truck was a 2wd with a 2.4 litre engine extended cab.the accelerator was always high.i got a few speeding tickets because of that. Even on small roads the rpm was unusually high.the mechanics also used to comment when they would do maintenance work on that truck.i lost this truck in an accident now.but please investigate this model also.also the egr valve on this trucks go bad frequently.thank you for investigating toyota.i thought i had a fluke bad toyota truck, but it turns out that i was not alone.thank you for your help.

The body is totally rust and broken. Is unsafe to drive. I am the third owner

I have a 1999 toyota tacoma and the gas pedal does stick. It has always 'corrected' itself causing the truck to lurch. Mechanics have said for years now that there is nothing wrong with it. In light of recent events maybe later models could be looked into.

I went to aguadilla and hormigueros dealers, but they don't want to make a job . Don't bring me a service.

Premature failure of drive shaft universal joints at 160,000 miles

Bought 99 toyota tacoma truck.verified with dealer who did the frame exam in 2014 for rust. At 207000 miles. It passed imspectiom in 2014??? now 4 yrs later and 18000 additional miles, it's rusted in half?

I purchased a used toyota 1999 tacoma from an individual which he purchased brand new with an extended warranty.i'm having problems with a oil leak from a seal in my engine.the dealership says in order for the repair to be covered w/the extended warranty the name has to be changed from the original owner.my truck has been sitting at the dealership now going on 6 weeks.i'm really getting the runaroound from these people and it's unacceptable.the warrranty was purchased with the truck and it should stay with the truck...prior to all of this i had a 5 dollar censor go out which was covered by the extended warranty and i re'cd a letter of notification of the repair under extended warranty with my name on the form..i do not understand now that the repair is major they are refusing to repair?it's not right to me the consumer and it's totally unacceptible...

Frame rust by rear driver leaf spring connection and obvious rust all over frame.

My 1999 tacoma has just been declared unsafe to drive by a local repair shop due to excessive rust on the frame (i brought it to the shop to have some a/c work done).as part of the toyota service program, the truck was inspected last in october 2013, and passed the corrosion test.at that point the truck had 106,000 miles.i had purchased the truck afterwards, based on this inspection being done by toyota and passing.the truck now has 119,000 miles on it, and it is not safe to drive.i called toyota corporate and they stated that since the truck is now outside the 15-year coverage period, i have no options.i shared that the truck was inspected by them and that it is nearly impossible for a truck to go from no rust issue to significant rust issue in less than 2 years and less than 14,000 miles.she (phyllis) agreed with me and said that she would be frustrated also and that it makes sense that this shouldn't have happened, but it is now outside of the period so i have no options.

Vehicle vibrates @ between 35 & 60 mph dealer can't fix, tried 4 times. Performance hesitation around 50 mph with overdrive off (automatic transmission.) dealer can't fix.

Location:s. Minnesota, approx. Zero degrees, random ice and snow on pavement; was unable to engage 4-wheel drive for protection; tried twice; 75 miles later was able to engage.complained to vendor, who called toyota and was told they'd had "a few" similar incidents during extremely cold weather, but no injuries resulted.

This is to clarify nhtsa odi #742258, filed by me on 3/11/01.i was driving south on 35w from st. Paul minnesota at approximately 7 am.the temperature was close to zero and it was snowing lightly. I had gone about 75 miles when i came upon packed snow and random patches of ice on the highway.i had passed several cars in the ditch.i was reasonably worried about my safety, so i attempted to pull the lever to engage my 4-wheel drive.it would not engage.i pulled hard, but not as hard as i could, fearing that something would break.i continued to drive in 2-wheel for another 10-20 minutes.the highway was still icy and i had passed more cars in the ditch.i tried again to engage the 4-wheel drive and again could not.i did not try again for another half hour and when i did, it engaged.i reported the incident to scott nichols' service manager, who phoned toyota.he told me that they said they had had 'a few' similar reports from drivers in cold areas, but that no accidents had resulted.

Tacoma pre runner, shift lever jumps out of gear into 1st into 2nd gear,2ndinto drive, and then drive into neutral on its own.yh

The rear axle seals are leaking. The rear axle fluid is dripping on the brake drum.this is throwing the rear axle fluid onto the shoe, causing the brakes to lock up.the driver almost had an accident as a result.this incident occurred snowy weather while making a turn.the rear end would lock up at slow speeds and wouldn't unlock until it was given gas to start up again.when the brakes locked, the vehicle slid into the curb. *sc

While drivingat any speed manual clutch failed, didn't shift properly from the first to second gear. Dealer was notified.

Rear differential failed. *mjs

While driving my 5 speed 3.4l tacoma in 3rd gear i get a slight vibration other than normal between 40-45. It is only in 3rd gear that this occurs and a transmission flush has been performed to somewhat remedy the problem.

Transfer case seized, causing vehicle to come to complete stop in the middle of intersection.vehicle was rendered immobile.dealer stated that such operation "is normal on hard surfaces."in my opinion, upredictable driveline seizure is dangerous and indicative of a manufacturing defect which will cause an accident if not corrected.northcutt toyota will not fix the problem.

1999 toyota tacoma, failing clear coat. Causing truck to completely rust-out.4-wheel drive not installed during assembly.tail light fuse blows out everytime i hook up a trailer

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an embankment located above a large drainage pipe. A police report was filed. The driver and passenger side air bags failed to deploy and the driver and passenger side seat belts failed to secure the occupants during the crash. The driver sustained bruising to the knees, the back and head concussions. The passenger sustained a fractured vertebrae and bruising to both legs and left arm. I would like to complain about the seatbelts in toyota tacoma trucks.i own a 1999 tacoma, and i have many friends with toyota's from around the same year and we all have problems with our seat belts.the button that keeps the buckle from sliding to the floor is broken off in nearly all vehicles; the seat belt does not retract and often hangs out the door, and thus is exposed to the elements when the truck is parked, and damages the door when it is shut without noticing the belt is hanging; many friends have found that with normal use the belt is wearing thin and threadbare, and even under warranty toyota will not replace it.

Consumer was driving approximately 30 mph. Upon impact, vehicle was struck at driver reartire, vehicle flipped in air approximately 20 feet and landed on the front bumper, air bag did not deploy. Vehicle then flipped on its top and began to slide, andpassenger's seat belt buckle came un latched.

Just bought a 1999 toyota tacoma pre runner and the seat belt on the driver side will not retract. I have looked at various junk yards and all do not retract. I spoke with another guy who has the same year and type truck as i do and he said his will not retract either. This seems to be a widespread problem and it needs attention. I have called toyota parts dept and they want to charge $126.99 for a new assembly, that seems kind of expensive for such a small part. I was thinking it was made to defect so they could make more money. Also since seatbelts are mandatory shouldn't it be the responsibility of the company to make them hold up better?

I am havingback problems due todesign ofdrivers portion of the 60/40 seat in my toyota tacoma pickup.i have taken it to the dealer from which i purchased it and filed a complaint with toyota customer service.they replaced the foam and the covers to no avail.the problem is in the design and poor quality of the seat.i believe that the seat places the driver at risk for back injury from either air bag inflation or rear end impact due to steel horizontal reinforcing rods in the seat frame.i also believe that the long term effect of wear and tear on the lower spine from continual contact with these rods causes serious problems.these rods are placed perpindicular to the drivers spinal column and are mounted horizontally on the forward part of the seat frame.they are padded only by seat cover material and low density foam.i believe that the additional seat width of the drivers side of the 60/40 seat accentuates the effect of the pressure on the spine as opposed to a regular "bucket" seat.additionally the "middle" seat position has seat belt connectors which allow for a seating space of only 7.5 inches horizontally.no adult could possibly fit in the space, the seat position is useless but could encourage someone to seat a child in it with deadly results.

I went to aguadilla and hormigueros dealers, but they don't want to make a job . Don't bring me a service.

I've had complete failure of both sides- front ball joints. I chalked up the the drivers side failure to happenstance, but after passenger side recently had the same failure i did some investigating and realized this is a vehicle assembly issue. The same issue had recalls for the later models 2001-05 tacomas, i believe. Not sure why the earlier models were excluded, but this is scary and dangerous to have a complete breakdown while in traffic. The tows and repairs cost over $500 in total for both instances. I'm not looking for reimbursement as much as reassurance that my truck is safe to drive. Both instances occurred on city streets. Passenger side was under 10 mph turning right towards my driveway. The recent incident was turning left at approximately 25 mph through an intersection with a traffic light. The truck tire crumbled on the passenger side and slide about 30 feet to a stop along the curb.

Lower ball joint severed.my family and i were lucky that it did not happen a few minutes before on highway going 60mph.we were on an extended trip and had slowed down going through a town, stopped and were making a u-turn when the front left wheel practically fell off.

The car in front of me stopped on the freeway and i was not able to stop in time. My front right hit his rear left, and my car spun 180 degrees into the lane next to the one i had been in and i was facing the oncoming traffic. My air bags did not deploy.

Vibration felt in steering wheel between 35 and 65 mph. Vehicle taken to dealer 4 times and goodyear dealer 2 times.the truck still shakes.( dot number: tire size: 31x10.5 15 )

While driving 10 mph bolt onengine crankshaft snapped ,causing pulley to release fromengine, resulting in loss of steering control.please give any further details.

When driving the vehicle in 4 wheel drive, power steering pump goes out.pump has been replaced 2 times already by tempe toyota and superstition springs toyota.pump has gone out for the third time in 3 years.

I lease a 1999 toyota tocoma when i turned into my driveway an started to back up. The tie rod end pulled out out of the knuckle on the rack an pinion without stripping the threads. Due to the fact that one si smaller than the other. The threads are there they are worn on the outer ends of both pieces. The truck has 50,100 miles on it. So far i am told this is my problem for me to fix. This is a serious safety problem to me. Because i did buy new parts to fix it. So i could have my truck. After two and a half weeks this all started 6-18-03 . But to my surprize the new parts did not fit much better than the one i took off. This scares me because even if they fix it. I would not feel safe thinking they might use the same kind of genuine toyota parts like i brought from them to fix it.

While driving through a known residential area near my home and approaching a slight s-curve in the road, the steering began to not respond as expected. It had worked previously, less than a minute before, moving through curves in the same neighborhood. As i approached the s-curve i attempted to steer to the right, and mid-way through the curve the steering became weakened and less responsive. This caused the truck to continue in a near straight line of direction towards a yard. To counter this loss of control i responded by turning the steering wheel more towards the right until it was locked all the way right. At this time the truck was still not turning towards the right, and sent me across my lane and off the road. Once my left-front wheel was off the road, and due to it being turned towards the right in full, my truck swung in alignment with the left-front wheel back onto the roadway.with that sudden emergency seeming to be nearly under control i realized i was traveling towards a parked car. I began to steer to the left around the next curve and found my steering wheel was stuck to the right, and would not move to left as though it was somehow locked or frozen into that position. In extreme panic i ripped the wheel to the left as hard as possible and broke it free of it's locked position, only to find the wheel spinning freely to the left and still rolling towards the other car. Once the wheel had spun to the left completely and i was still going in a forward direction with no screech of the tires so i slammed on the brakes until i was in a skid across the the roadwayand hit the other car. When i landedthe truck was not running, and there wereno damaged engine parts. Also my steering wheel was turned to the left, and the left front wheel was too, but the right front wheel was turned out towards the right! the ball joint on the tie-rod end had come loose on that right-front wheel, but had not broke.

Truck shakes at about 45 mph and continues to shake through highway speeds.when looked at for inspection i have been told by both toyota dealer service centers and independent garages that the play in the rack and pinion is causing the shake and the play is to significant to pass inspection. As i write, my truck is at a toyota dealer having the 4th rack and pinion installed.the shake causes seals in the rack to wear and break.when these seals break it will quickly empty the power steering pump of fluid causing loss of power assist steering.i have been fortunate to have been aware of this problem and not to have caused an accident.

Vehicle experiences shaking in the steering and tires continually wearing on the inside of each front wheel, these problems are due to the rack and pinion unit, there is too much lateral play within the unit, this causes difficulty with the alignment, consumer states that the rubber on the rack and pinion is either too soft or it needs to be shimmed behind the shackle so there is less play in the unit.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. While driving various speeds, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. Upon inspection, the contact noticed thatthe strap that held the fuel tank was corroded and detached. The contact independently replaced the straps. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the subframe was corroded and could not be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000. Updated 08/02/16*lj

On march 26, 2014, i learned by word of mouth about the rust corrosion problem with toyota tacoma's. On that day i contacted toyota to verify the information i received. I was told by toyota about the "rust corrosion program" and that my tacoma would need to be inspected and that i had until sept. 2014 to get this completed, as that is when the promotion expired for my truck. I was also told that a letter notifying me went out in 2008 and i was provided the address it was send, which was not the address where my truck was registered in 2008. Thus i did not receive any information from toyota about the program. On april 14, 2014, the frame on my 1999 toyota tacoma was inspected by a toyota dealership. Upon completion of the inspection, it was determined that my tacoma was "unsafe" to drive due to a large rust hole on the frame from the left side of the fuel tank to the rear of the tank. When i reported this information to toyota they told me that the promotion had expired for my truck. I referenced the information that i initially received from toyota and they informed me that the information that i received was wrong and that they were unable to do anything for me. I told them that i had never received any information from toyota regarding the rust issue, so how would i know to do anything. They told me that they were "sorry" and they couldn't do anything about it. I contacted the executive offices and again was told there was nothing that could be done and they were sorry. So now i have an unsafe truck and toyota is not willing to do anything about it.

This is and addendum to odi number 10299896.please checkconsumeraffairs.com there are literally hundreds of toyota owners that have had their rusted truck frames inspected by a toyota dealer, with no results, and they filed complaints on consumeraffairs.com. Withexact same rusted frame rust problems, quite a few with salvage titles, and many with trucks 2001 thru 2007, which toyota has abandoned.all potential road hazards at some point. Owners are completely at a loss how to have toyota address the problem, i actually found nhtsa on the consumeraffairs.com site, most have not. One owner had his truck inspected at toyota dealer, was told it was the worst case they had ever reviewed, but due to salvaged title, replacement was denied, owner was driving truck approx 2 weeks later and frame broke completely in two while driving down highway??????

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the vehicle was inspected at a toyota dealer for corrosion. The technician assured the contact that the vehicle was fine. Five years later, the contact brought the vehicle in for an oil change and it was diagnosed that the rear suspension detached from the frame due to severe corrosion. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 172,000.

1999 toyota tacoma. Our local toyota dealer inspected the frame last week and confirmed that it has the rust issue covered by the 15 year extended warranty except for the fact that the 15 years ended two years ago for my vehicle. Toyota applied a thick under coat in 2011 but it actually prevented the discovery of the defect until after the 15 year extended warranty had expired. This is clearly a recall situation or at the very lease they should honor the extended warranty on my truck because they hide the defect.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. The contact stated while having his vehicle inspected he was made aware that the frame had fractured as a result of corrosion. The technician stated that welding was not an option to repair the defect. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 160,000.

Frame rust by rear driver leaf spring connection and obvious rust all over frame.

The frame has been diagnosed by 2 separate repair shops as being not drivable due to holes. This make and model was recalled for this reason and was brought into a toyota service center in 2009. The frame was inspected "ok" and no work was done. The frame is now rotted and i am now being told it is ineligible for repair because it is now outside of the 15-year warranty window. This vehicle was, in fact, brought to toyota within the window and nothing was done about it.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the local mechanic for inspection, the subframe was found to be severely corroded. The contact was advised that the vehicle was unsafe to drive.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 310,000.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. The vehicle was taken to be state inspected, but it did not pass due to severe rust under the bed of the vehicle. The contact was informed that the leaf springs were rusted and needed a new frame. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

Bought 99 toyota tacoma truck.verified with dealer who did the frame exam in 2014 for rust. At 207000 miles. It passed imspectiom in 2014??? now 4 yrs later and 18000 additional miles, it's rusted in half?

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma.the contact noticed a whole in the front of the rear leaf spring underneath the vehicle's frame.the vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer. The contact has pictures.the engine size and current and failure mileages were unknown.

The frame on my 1999 toyota tacoma is rusted to the point that it is on long safe to drive the truck it's a know problem with toyota and they will not do anything to fix there own problem cause it will dip into the billions of bonus money these crooks make each year.drive it till it snaps in two they will tell you

The body is totally rust and broken. Is unsafe to drive. I am the third owner

1999 toyota tacoma, failing clear coat. Causing truck to completely rust-out.4-wheel drive not installed during assembly.tail light fuse blows out everytime i hook up a trailer

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that there was premature rust and corrosion on the vehicle. The manufacturer included the vin in a limited service campaign in which the solution was to coat the rust, but this did not provide a permanent remedy. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken back to the dealer several times over the years and the dealer did not provide a permanent remedy. The vehicle was recently diagnosed by a dealer where it was diagnosed that the frame was rotted with holes and could fracture. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy. The failure mileage was 109,677. Updated 07/13/16*lj

Toyota rust recall.truck purchased in 2003 and undercoated .[xxx] received recall, took it in, nothing was done.[xxx], son bought truck in 2008 went to l& s toyota regarding rust, nothing was done.frame has rusted so bad that it punctured hole in fuel tank; otherwise, truck in excellent condition.too dangerous to drive.in 2008 toyotas frame rust was so bad on 1995-2004 tacomas (about 800,000 trucks) was so bad the company had to buy many of them back, conduct extensive frame repairs and/or extend frame corrosion warranties by 15 years.company never issued a recall for that problem.we would appreciate getting our frame and fuel tank fixed.it has sentimental value to my husband since it was his dad's truck and he is deceased, and besides, it is a great truck and looks great!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The frame of the truck is rusted and shows perforation of the metal, nearly through the whole frame on rear passenger side, near shock attachment as well as driver side rear in same area. Unsafe to drive.

Toyota sent a recall card in 2011 to rust proof the frame. They covered up the rust and said the vehicle was good to go. The frame has rusted to the point the vehicle is not safe to drive. I have a friend that had the same problem and they purchased his vehicle and i know several people have had their frame's replaced at no charge by toyota. They avoided the issue and now i have a unsafe vehicle.

Holes rusted through on frame. Believe it's called lift spring bracket broke because of rust. Mechanic informed me a couple of days ago when i wanted to know if rusted out hole in frame could be repaired

99 toyota frame is rusted through when carfax report specifically listed a toyota dealer checked same vehicle for frame rust in 2014 with 207000 miles on it. It passed if that's what u want to call it. Now in 2018 with an additional 15,000 miles on it, it has rusted through.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while performing a routine maintenance on the vehicle, the contact noticed that the sub frame of the vehicle exhibited corrosion located near the rear leaf spring of the vehicle along the weld. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 260,000.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 mph, a loud pop sound was heard and the vehicle jerked violently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear frame was severely corroded and detached. The contact mentioned that the whole frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

Frame rusted so bad there are holes, and a bracket has broken lose causing the wheel to move. Was told too dangerous to drive by mechanic a couple of days ago.

When i changed the oil in march, i noticed a huge hole on the inside of the left frame member, next to the gas tank.i then checked the right side, and found a long line of rusted through holes along the bottom of that frame member.i feel this is a major safety defect by the oem's selection of steel grades.

The frame is rusting out and falling apart.this has made the vehicle unsafe to drive.

The frame of the truck has completely rusted through just before the back drivers side wheel. It has split completely through the metal and runs all the way down toward the front . All the way down. It scares me to drive it bnut it is the only tranportation i have and no choice. This happened in the past year.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the vehicle's frame had rusted out. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

Toyota tacomas of this year are a safety hazard due to frames that rust through and become weak to the point of failure. Toyota has not done enough with its voluntary service repair leaving thousands of these trucks on the road and putting all drivers at risk of death or serious injury from frame breakage. Toyota should recall any and all remaining trucks and provide frame repair suitable for safe on-road operation. My vehicle frame is nearly entirely rusted through. It was inspected during toyotas service campaign and found not to be bad enough for repair, now it is too late and no longer qualifies for repair. The picture provided shows my driver side frame rail bottom. The top of this frame rail is so soft i can push through it with my fingers. The passenger side frame rail has marginally less rust through but is still in an unsafe condition. These vehicles are dangerous and someone will be injured, if someone already hasnt, as a result of these poor quality frames.

- the contact stated that while drivingthe1999 toyota tacoma with 89600 failure mileage at 45 mph the cab began to make noise.the vehicle was taken to a mechanic, and they discovered that the mounting brackets, hooking the body to the framesheared.the collapsed body was laying on the frame.the vehicle had not been repaired.the current mileage was 89650.

Toyota sent a recall a few years ago to check and fix a problem with rust on the vehicle frame. I took it in for the 'fix', now (11/19/15) i find out my frame has rusted through and is very unsafe to drive.this is a popular truck and there are alot on the road, some may be in the same situation i am in.toyota's response was' we can't help you'.after the 'fix' i was told that i would have no problems in the future.

Dec 13, 2015,while bending down to pick up my reading glasses in the driveway,i noticed a clean through fracture of the frame, rear passenger side, just in front of the shock absorber fitting. A few days earlier i had wondered why the bed was tilted up pinching the back of the cab. The vehicle had passed state inspection year after year and had been see by my regular mechanic less than 2 years ago and no issues with frame deterioration were found or brought to my attention.i contacted toyota and just yesterday was told, sorry about your "rust" issue, butthe warranty has long expired. This is a well documented design and manufacturing defect tied to improper prep by toyota frame contractor dana holding corp. The vehicle was fully operational and now it is un-driveable.if the vehicle had come apart at highway speeds,it could have caused serious injury or fatality. This is my only means of transportation as a fixed income retiree.there's no justifiable reason a vehicle frame should fail like this only to have toyota tell me they will do nothing. My troubles aside, this is a very serious public safety risk and a risk to all service personnel, owners, their passengers and others on the road in their vicinity. It was only by sheer luck that i discovered this while the vehicle was parked.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. While driving at 50 mph, the contact heard a noise emitting from the rear of the vehicle. Upon further inspection, the contact noticed that the rear driver side leaf spring shackle fractured from the frame. In addition, the contact noticed corrosion on the frame of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 149,000.

On april 8, 2015, i took my 1999 toyota tacomato my local mechanic i for routine maintenance. He informed me that the frame was so severely rusted that it was no longer safe to drive and that they would not perform the repairs. They also informed me that any attempt to repair the frame would still render it unsafe. They also checked for recalls/buybacks on the vehicle and it was not eligible. I was planning a 2000 mile trip with load. Had i proceeded with the trip without knowing the extent of the damage, i would have been in grave danger.

While breaking slowly coming to a stop , i lost my all my break controls. Fortunately i was able to stop the vehicle with no fatalities. The tow truck brought me to my mechanics facility and indicated that the trucks steel frame and parts receded backwards placing pressure on break lines under truck to snap. He showed me that rusting of the frame caused the problem. The carriage moved back by 4" due to rusting and deterioration. I called tacoma customer service and they said nothing can be done to help pay for my expenses. It's costing me$1,750 to replace frame and repair damages to breaks and other components.

The owns a 1999 toyota 4runner.the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection when he was advised that the frame was completely rusted.the dealer took pictures of the frame and called the manufacturer but the manufacturer would provide no assistance because the vehicle was not under recall.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 150,000.

Frame rusted out, causing the body to drop and a bolt to settle on my gas tank, resulting in a fuel leak. Needs a new frame to fix.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. While driving 20 mph over a bump in the road, the contact heard a loud abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the rear shock absorber fractured and that there was a hole in the frame. Del toyota (2945 lincoln hwy e, thorndale, pa 19372, (610) 383-6200) was contacted and stated that the vehicle was sold as is without further assistance. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 83,000.

The support cable on the left side broke while opening the tailgate.dealer was notified, andinformedthe consumer that this vehicle was not covered under a recall.the right side cable rusted through but was still intact. Replacement on order for right side. The left side cable has been replaced. Consumer feels this is a safety hazard.

The contact submitted an email and requested that the official ivoq be written verbatim to his submitted email: several weeks ago, i received a letter from toyota usa stating their service campaign on tacoma's frames rusting in specific cold climates. I followed the instructions and contacted a-1 toyota in new haven, ct where they inspected my truck. The service manager told me that the frame literally sagged at the rust penetration points while on the lift. They gave me a loaner car the next day and said they will contact me regarding purchasing the truck back because the frame rust was so bad. Another couple of days passed and i received a phone call from the company (isg) handling the program. They informed me that after they ran a carfax and saw a salvage title in the past, that they will not honor the service campaign for my truck. I bought this truck on 6/12/07 and put a lot of money into her. Now for the really bizarre part...... In jan of 2010, i was following a local fellow (who was injured in a motorcycle accident years ago) on his 3-wheeled bike so he could repair a flat tire. I had my flashers and headlights on and going aprox 5mph. I was trying to protect him as he rode along the side of the road (aprox 9:00 am). I looked into my rearview mirror and noticed a volvo xc-90 coming up behind me fast. The speed limit was 30mph and he was easily doing 50. He rear-ended me and pushed my truck up next to where the fellow was on his bike. The other driver was cited for the accident. If i was not in my truck, but a sedan he would have caused serious injury, but he actually rode up under my truck. The insurance company totaled it and i bought it back and had it repaired. A second-hand bed, some body work, exhaust items and bumper was all she needed. I had to have it flat-bedded to ct dmv for a full safety inspection and to the dealer for air-bag recertification before i could even re-register it. The title now states "rebuilt title only" on it. This is not a one time event, but a chronic problem of excessive corrosion on entire underside of vehicle including frame (1999 toyota tacoma).i chose incident date as approximate date that i first noticed.vehicle was inspected and passed by dealer around july 2008.

I have a 1999 toyota tacoma 4 wd trruck , the frame is rusted out on both sides.

It was brought to my attention that my frame is totally corroded (rotted) and would "snap" in the near term.the springs that are attached to the frame is at risk of breaking free from the frame and the frame breaking in two.my truck is barely nine years old.i am one of those rare auto owners who keep their vehicles for more than 10 years.i have never had a vehicle that had problems with corroded frames - ever and i have had a few vehicles that were in my ownership for more than 10 years.i take very good care of my cars and is the reason i am able to own them for long periods of time.my reputable auto repair services merchant told me that he has seen numerous toyota trucks in similar situations - mine was the worst case he has ever seen.i understand toyota has many similar complaints and is doing nothing to take care of this very serious situation.i am at risk of having a serious accident.this is my only vehicle and i cannot afford to give this truck up and purchase a reliable vehicle.i hope that the nhtsa can help.

Frame rail has bad rust problem, frame is so rusted through that it is unsafe to drive the vehicle.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that there was significant corrosion to the frame of the vehicle; he was informed by the dealer. The dealer stated that they would call the manufacturer to set up a buy back. The manufacturer denied the buy back because the vehicle was salvaged. The vehicle had not been repaired. The current mileage was approximately 197,000. The failure mileage was approximately 196,000.

I purchased the vehicle from blaise alexander family dealership on october 19 2005. I bought it with 80k miles on it. I paid roughly 13,500.00 for it. My local mechanic told me that he noticed a small rust hole in the frame on the drivers side approximately 5 months ago. Well a few months later i had noticed a huge hole had appeared in the area of the left rear shackle. Since it was a major safety issue i took it to a local weld shop. He agreed to try and fix it. Upon removing the box, the gas tank he noticed he had opened a major can of worms. Both sides of the trucks frame were shot from the front of the cab to the back bumper. He immediately called me with this problem. Since this was more than i could handle i then took it back to the dealership where i had bought it on october 17 2006 and showed them pictures of the truck they had just sold me less than a year ago. The general manager john panko said himself that this vehicle is not road worthy. Well a long story short... Toyota corp was called in to inspect this vehicle and offered to give me $2000.00 to fix it. A service manager said it would cost about $6000.00 to fix. Well needles to say i am not paying another 4k on a vehicle that i already owe $11,500.00 on. I have no warranty left to date on this vehicle, and even if i did, the frame would not be covered. The alexander dealership would not give me a loaner car, or help me in any way shape or form. They have given me the run around long enough. I have contacted a lawyer and plan on filing a complaint with the attorney general for pennsylvania. Also the dealership never gave me anything in writing from toyota saying they agreed to pay. How do i even know if an inspector came out or not. Alexanders could be saying this to shut me up. Another problem i noticed that many others have is a shimmy in the front end. I also had 2 sets of new tires put on in the same week.can somebody please help me?

Frame rotted out on 1999 toyota tacoma sr5 xtra cab 4x4 near the leaf spring shackles. Unsafe condition could result in serious personal injury or death.

1999 toyota tacoma 4x4 pickup - frame rail rust.

I was informed in sept. 2007 that my truck probably will not pass inspection in 2008 due to excessive rust on my trucks frame. The truck is only eight years old. Doesn't this constitute premature frame deterioration? the inspectors suggested that i have someone weld steel onto the frame. It was recommended that i do this before this winter so it is not exposed to any more saltfrom the roads.

I have a 1999 toyota tacoma sr5 xtra cab, with an immaculate body, however the frame rails have rotted out so badly that you can put your finger through the rail in some places. The frame is unsafe and a failure could result in serious personal injury or death. The most severe location of the rot in just in front of the rear leaf springs on the inside of the frame.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma.the contact stated that he took vehicle to be state-inspected.he was informed that the frame was rusted and would not pass inspection.he never noticed any frame-related issues with the vehicle until it was brought to his attention during inspection.toyota informed the contact that they had a buyback program based on the blue book value of the vehicle.he has been working with toyota to have the issue rectified.the current mileage was 76,120 and failure mileage was approximately 76,000. Recently spoke with several toyota tacoma owners who related frame rust problem.checked truck and found rust on frame(fingers went through frame in spots.took vehicle to toyota service and was told not to drive truck due to excessive rust on frame.then they returned the truck to me to drive home?? to return in two days when they would have a loaner truck for me.returned truck to toyotaand after a huge hassle they arranged to rental vehicle for me to drive.now toyota dealer has kept the truck because it is unsafe to drive.i am waiting for someone from toyota to contact me - have been told i qualify for a buyout.the dealer/service dept. My husband and i have always been big fans of toyota's.they seem to last a long time, and since we knew we would be footing the bill to send our youngest to a private college in 2002, we decided that we would trade our 1991 toyota 4 runner in for a brand new toyota 1999 tacoma, in july 1999.we thought that this would ensure that we would have a vehicle that we could put a couple of hundred thousand miles on and one that would last for 15 years easy.that all changed less than 8 years later, when we hadn't even hit the 150,000 mile mark.all of the mileage on our previous toyota pickups had turned over twice, but one day while my husband was on his way to work, he hit a bump and heard a huge bang.the bed had slammed up against the cab.when he got out to look, he was surprised to see abig crack and the frame so rusted that he could put his finger right through it in several places.i was never so surprised when he called me at work to say that we needed to trade his truck in for a new one.he told me, "this frame is going to just drop on the road and it's not safe for me to drive, it looks like swiss cheese. I just hope i can make it to the dealership to trade it in before it goes."i was floored.this seemed to come out of the blue, since i knew we took care of it, did oil changes every 3,000 miles and kept up with all of the maintenance that should have made this last twice as long as it did. Just like all the other toyota pick ups we had owned overyears, some of which we had purchased with more miles on them than this one had now.we traded it in for peanuts, because of the rust.

I have a 1999 toyota tacoma sr5 v6 with 127,000 miles. I was getting ready to go to town when a relative noticed that my bed and cab were laying right against each other. I check the issue and found that my frame rails were both cracked almost all the way through. I just purchased this truck around july 1, 2007 with a new inspection sticker on it. I checked everything before i bought it and it looked decent, but shortly after the purchased large chunked of rust started to fall off when banging on the frame. Now the frame is so thin that any when you bang on the frame it goes through. I have only put 13,000 miles since i bought it all of which are highway miles driving to and from work and/or school. I was told by the local body shop that the only way to fix the rusty frame issue was to change thewhole frame at the price of $6000. They said that the frame was beyond repair and there wasn't anything good enough to weld to.

I have received a letter from toyota motor co. Along with 814,000 other owners of toyota tacoma's built between 1995-2000 stating that our frame rust warranty has been extended for 15 years from date of original purchase as a result of a frame rust because aprocess that was not done by the frame supplier to toyota.if frame is found to have rust toyota motor co. Will buyback vehicle at 150% of highest kbb retail value.toyota expects to buyback approx. 50% of vehicles still on the road.most of these vehicles will be from the central and northeastern parts of the us but they have bought back vehicles in all parts of the nation including california.this campaign began in mid-2008. So now i have a vehicle that has some surface rust on the frame but not enough to warrant the buyback program at this time but in the mean time while the frame rusts into the toyota buyback standards my kbb value decreases, i drive around a vehicle with compromised frame integrity in the event of an accident, and no one wants to buy my vehicle because it has this latent problem now well established/distributed throughout the media.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the vehicle developed a perforation in the frame to the point that the frame was rusted and corroded. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was included in an unknown manufacturer recall. Months prior to the failure, the frame was coated with a solution as a temporary remedy.the remedy failed to prevent the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the frame needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin, nhtsa campaign number, and failure mileage were not available.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma.upon having an annual state inspection performed on the vehicle, the contact was informed that the frame had rotted from the passenger and driver side doors back to the leaf spring.the vehicle could not pass inspection and is not able to be driven.the current and failure mileages were 130,000.

1999 toyota tacoma has severe frame rust/rot to both main frame rails, esp. Just in front of leaf springs.no rust problem was detected until ny state inspection of early april, 2007.the rest of the vehicle is virtually free from rust.in my opinion truck is now unsafe to drive.

Corroded frame rails on a 1999 toyota tacoma 4x4 with xtracab. Purchased used from the original owner in 2000 with 40k miles. My local mechanic told me that he noticed a small rust hole in the frame on the drivers side approximately 1 months ago. The most severe location of the rot was just in front of the rear leaf springs on the bottom of the frame. The mechanic suggested that i get the frame replaced for $5000. He would not give me an inspection sticker because the truck was unsafe to drive.

160k miles my truck frame, in the rear around the leaf springs and back completely rusted out. I had this truck on a lift 1.5 years ago and inspected it with a mechanic and it was fine. This frame rust happened very quickly. The truck is unsafe to drive now. Only choice is to part it out or junkyard. Getting someone to weld the frame is near impossible. Truck is fine shape otherwise.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number:01e041000 (trailer hitches). The manufacturer had not sent a recall notification. The vehicle was purchased from an independent source who did not mention if the vehicle was inspected before it was sold. The contact was not informed of the vehicle's extensive rust, corrosion, and holes pertaining to the frame until after it was purchased. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer issued 14 technical service bulletins regarding the structure. The manufacturer was contacted to determine if the recall remedy would still apply. The contact was waiting on their response. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.

Corroded frame rails on a 1999 toyota tacoma 4x4 with xtracab.purchased used from a pa used car dealer with 120k miles.while replacing the rear shocks, i noted severe rust and corrosion of the frame rails and cross members on the frame of this truck.upon closer inspection, i noted several areas where the previous owner had repair patches welded to the outside of the frame to beef up the weaker areas.this includes the driver's side from the front wheel to the rear just beyond the rear wheel.the passenger side on the rear area between the spring mounts.the inside of the frame rails are filled with corrosion and large pieces of the frame that have flaked off.rust proofing was applied to the outside of the frame to protect/hide the repairs.this vehicle was owned in columbus, ohio it's first year, and the remaining time in w. Va, according to carfax.no accident damage on this vehicle.the body is immaculate.failure of the truck's frame could cause loss of control and/or serious injury or death.i am going to ask others via various web pages to report the same problem with their vehicles from 96-04 model years.

- the contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma.the under carriage of truck was rusted ,and the mount to the cab was rusted on the passenger side as well.sears service center attempted to do a wheel alignment when they saw the rust under the vehicle, butwill not align the vehicle due to the damage.he then called the toyota headquarters, and they stated that the vehicle was out of warranty, and they were not responsible for the repairs. The contact was the second owner of the vehicle, he owned itfor three years.

We own a 1999 toyota tacoma with the rusted frame recall. We had it inspected in 2008 at rick hendrick toyota in fayetteville, nc it had surface rust but they said nothin to worry about. It is now 2014 and the drivers side rear leaf spring front mount rotted right off and the frame is cracked right through. Toyota will not honor the frame replacement even though the inspection was done in 2008 and they found nothing well i have pictures of nothing left of my trucks frame and not it totally unsafe to drive . What can i do with toyota not keeping me and my family safe ?

At my annual state (nh) auto inspection on january 31st, 2008, my 1999 toyota tacoma pick upi was rejected because of an extreme frame failure due to rusting and frame deterioration in front of the rear leaf spring mounts.

Rusted frames toyota pickups.visited toyota garage with my 1999 toyota tacoma, jan 15 2010, after my servicing garage advised my frame was rusting and toyota was having a "buyback/warranty recall covering years 1995 through 2000 due to frame rusting problems". Toyota's safety concern is motor falling through to ground or frame breaking entirely in two while driving down highway.toyota garage inspected my truck and advised frame was rusted severely and qualified for buyback, but due to having a salvage/reconstructed title it is disqualified from the150% buyback and therefore qualifies for nothing. They returned truck to me same day with advice not to haul anything heavy in truck, and advising i am on my own!!a rusted frame is a rusted frame, even if it had been completely reconstructed with new frame, my frame has no welded plates etc. You might find from a prioraccident, it appears 100% original. I understand my specific truck was re-titled due to a previous owner committing suicide in truck, and pa re-titled truck, per the owner i purchased truck from.i am very concerned with my wife or myself driving this truck now.i would be perfectly happy with toyota to repair or replace the frame as i like the truck, but i do expect it to be corrected or replaced, one way or the other.this is a $10,000 dollar investment, i am retired and it amounts to a substantial amount of money we could lose with no responsibility on our part other than purchasing truck. Frame rusted through. The truck was purchased from toyota libertyville, they refused to repair my truck. According to toyotas document my truck should be either purchased or repairedhttp://pressroom.toyota.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=2712.

I purchased this vehicle in 02/11, from my brother. I heard about a recall and called betten toyota, now toyota of grand rapids, but was told the vin was not affected by this recall. Early in 2014, i noticed the cab corner had dropped down. I looked underneath the vehicle and saw the frame was rusted. I called toyota of gr; they told me to call toyota customer service. I called toyota's main office (customer service); they assigned me a case number and told me to bring it to a local dealer and have them check it. I brought it to toyota of gr where their mechanic deemed it unsafe to drive. Toyota of gr sent this report to toyota customer service. On 4/24/14 i received a letter from toyota customer service that "toyota extended the warranty on your tacoma for a period of 15 years with no mileage limitation from the vehicle's in service date, for perforation of the vehicle's frame caused by rust corrosion. Based on a recent inspection of your tacoma, it appears that the frame is indeed perforated. As a result, toyota is prepared to repurchase your tacoma."on 4/25/14 i received a letter from toyota motor sales, u.s.a. Inc. Stating that they would repurchase my vehicle subject to the confirmation that my vehicle complies with all of the conditions of the warranty extension. I was asked to sign an agreement accepting their repurchase amount and send it back to them with a copy of the title. This was completed on 4/28/14. I received a call from toyota 4/30/14 stating that the truck did not qualify because of the date it was put into service. I found out i missed it by four months. If they would have told me when i purchased the vehicle 3 years earlier that it did qualify, this would have been taken care of at that time. They had my vin before they sent the letter out on 4/25/14 when they said they would buy it back. We would appreciate your help with this situation.

Noticed my truck was leaking gas. Upon further inspection it appears to be coming from the tank and then i noticed that the frame is rotted out around where the leaf spring is mounted. My truck frame was inspected by toyota years ago and i was told that it passed. I know about the extended frame warranty but just my luck it expired for my truck at the beginning of this year. I usually do a visual of the frame when i wash my truck but didn't notice anything. I'm not sure what i should do i can't drive my truck this way. I know toyota is going to give me the run around.

We recently discovered a large rust hole in the frame in front of the rear wheel of our 1999 toyota tacoma. After talking to our mechanic about repair, we discovered that toyota had issued a warranty extension for frame due accelerated rusting of the frame and manufacturer defect, but we were never notified.we contacted toyota, and they said the warranty had expired on june 10, 2014.apparently, the previous owner had been contacted, but not us.we purchased the truck on 2/20/2013.our mechanic has warned against driving the vehicle due to frame rot.toyota is not willing to extend the warranty even though we were unaware of it and not notified. So, we now have a vehicle that runs well and is in good shape mechanically and body-wise, but we have concerns about driving it safely on the highway.

1999 toyota tacoma. Consumer writes in regards to frame rust perforation *tgwwhen the vehicle was inspected, rust was found and documented and pictures were e-mailed to toyota.toyota denied the consumers request to re-purchase the vehicle. The consumer wrote toyota two letters asking them to reconsider and to have the vehicle inspected again.toyota agreed to buy the vehicle back under recall, but not at the value the consumer wanted. I have a 1999 toyota tacoma with a rusted frame. In feb 08 ballard springs put springs on a rusted mount. I am now involved with the buyback.

I purchased my 1999 toyota tacoma 4x4 11/2013 at a small dealership. I checked the vehicle out pretty good before purchase and found lite surface rust on frame and thought nothing to worry about. 12/2014 i was working on emergency brake, do to sticking and notices a large rust hole at the rear leaf spring. I startedlooking on the internet for local frame repair company's and found out about the problem with this year tacoma. I called toyota service and they said there was nothing they could do because the warranty ran out on frame rust. I called a local toyota to buy a new frame, they told me they don't manufacture that year anymore. I took it to a frame repair shop and they told me it would cost $2600 to fix the rear half section of the frame and to replace the front section as soon as possible. The whole frame, if they locate one used from out west and repair would be $6000.it really seems that there is a serious safety issue here and there hasn't been a recall on the frame. If they recall they have to fix all the years mentioned.

Excessive rust in both frame members where the front of the leaf spring bracketsattach to the frame. This presents a potentially dangerous situation as the frame could break.

We just learned recently about the issue with the toyota frames rusting out and when we took the vehicle to toyota to get it looked at they responded that the 15 year frame warranty expired on 5-27-2014.we were never notified by toyota about this issue, nor were we aware of this problem until recently when a friend had an issue and told us about it.if toyota would have notified us we would have had the frame inspected prior to the warranty period expiring.they did notify me in 2007 or so about a recall on my 1990 toyota but not this one for my 1999 which is very a serious issue.

Truck has perforated rust through the frame.after researching online, this appears to be a known issue impacting older toyota tacomas.i have received no notice of any issue from toyota despite having a good address on file, but after contacting toyota, they have informed me of a 15 year extended program specifically for perforated frame rust issues on this truck.per toyota, this program lapsed two months prior to my call.online research and local dealership confirms, toyota was buying these trucks back and paying 150% of the kbb excellent value, in order to simply crush the truck and move on.per toyota, since i have found the program on my own and am calling two months late, they are not willing to take any corrective action whatsoever, either repair or repurchase.per the dealer, they are getting multiple inquires into this due to people not being aware of the program. At this time, the frame is so damaged due to rust that it is unsafe to drive due to the potential of total collapse.

The toyota tacoma 1999 that i purchased had a 15 year extended warranty due to a defective frame susceptible to rust. The warranty ended on 4/10/2014 but i didn't purchase the vehicle until 7/27/2014. The dealer did not disclose the poor frame condition and allowed me to purchase an unsafe vehicle at the kbb value. I cannot afford to repair the defect or buy a new vehicle. Is there anything that nhtsa can do? is there any way that toyota can be asked to extend the warranty by one more year? can they make this an actual recall instead of an extended warranty?thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

We have only had this truck for a year so we don't know what prior incidents have happened. Since we have had it since 10/10/06 there hasn't been any incidents only that the right rear of the frame is rotting.

I have a 1999 toyota tacoma which only has 30,000 miles on it and took it in for an oil change to find out the service department had put a hammer through the frame where it had rusted out. Now the dealer has my truck and said that it is not going to be able to be repaired because they do not make this frame anymore. I have taken great care of my truck only to find out that toyota is only going to give me 150% bb value due to there faulty frame. This is not the consumers error and should not have to held with the cost of there faulty product.

Premature rust through of frame. Well maintained vehicle became unstable.upon inspection, frame had rusted completely through on drivers side, deteriorating on passenger side.frame is flexing at point between cab and bed enough that rear of cab has contacted with bed.vehicle unsafe to drive home three miles as frame is near separation, rear spring hanger is close to separating. Unacceptable/dangerous manufacturing/preparation of frame by toyota.

In ma you need to have an annual vehicle inspection.i went for that inspection and was told that they could not pass the truck because of a severely rusted frame.i went to the dealer who sold me the vehicle and was told to either agree to pay for a frame replacement or junk the truck.i can't drive the vehicle without a valid inspection.

The car in front of me stopped on the freeway and i was not able to stop in time. My front right hit his rear left, and my car spun 180 degrees into the lane next to the one i had been in and i was facing the oncoming traffic. My air bags did not deploy.

Just normal driving nothing heavy in the back of the truck. Had to replace the leaf springs. Has happened 3 times.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the vehicle was inspected at a toyota dealer for corrosion. The technician assured the contact that the vehicle was fine. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 172,000.

The vehicle was recalled due to corrosion in the frame beneath the leaf springs.the repair was supposed to be fixed in july 2011 by spraying anti-corrosion chemicals.however, this did not satisfy the problem as the rear is so rusted out it is unsafe to drive.neither the toyota dealer nor the toyota company will fix this now as part of the recall because it is "expired"since the corrosion now is so complete, it is obvious that the "fix" in 2011 did not work. The truck has less that 125,000 miles and should not be rusted out.

While driving on the highway the truck started to sway from side to side. Vehicle had 800 pounds of empty cabinets not exceeding 57 inches, nor any weight factor overload on truck. *mjs

Frame rusting from inside out. Vehicle has been in same family since purchased new in 2000 and no recall notice was ever received. Rest of vehicle is in great shape.

Lower ball joint severed.my family and i were lucky that it did not happen a few minutes before on highway going 60mph.we were on an extended trip and had slowed down going through a town, stopped and were making a u-turn when the front left wheel practically fell off.

Frame rust by rear driver leaf spring connection and obvious rust all over frame.

It was under warranty for rusting underneath.i'ts a1999 tacoma the manufactor said the warranty expired in i think march for my truck.but my frame broke in august and they (toyota) are not going to do nothing for me about it.i didnt recive any of the recall notices from them and i told them this .they told me they could only do what the dmv sends them well i have had the truck since 2006.so you would think somebody would have sent something!!! my man is sick and i have to bum a ride and that really sucks!i'm not used to mother may i.any way it's all a blame game.

Bought 99 toyota tacoma truck.verified with dealer who did the frame exam in 2014 for rust. At 207000 miles. It passed imspectiom in 2014??? now 4 yrs later and 18000 additional miles, it's rusted in half?

When driving from 35 to 65mph the steering wheel vibrates, making it hard to control the steering. Vehicle has been looked at 3 times, still no solution. Tires have been changed 5 times.

Toyota states it's goodyears' problem and goodyear states it's toyota's problem. I feel like a yoyo. My problem starts at 60mph where there is a vibration on the front end.the vibration gets worse at 75 and then smooths out around 83.i took the truck to cobb county toyota ,and jesse, a service advisor, told me that my tire was 42lbs. Of road force - - - way out of specs...... Needs to be replaced. Jesse advised me to notify a goodyear tire store because it is their responsibility.so i notified tirequest goodyear tire store in cartsville ga.kalvin, store manager, said that is a dealer (toyota) problem.tirequestbalanced the tire the best they could.i continued to have the same problem.on4/21/2000 i called goodyears 1-800-321-2136 customer assistance , ref#3888832, susan. She called a goodyear dealer in daltonand talked with matt acklen store manager at goodyear bryman's plaza north.he wasvery helpful and told me the wheel was the cause of the problem not the tire.i went back to toyota on 4/21/2000 and jessestated it was the tire and goodyear should stand behind their product.i have gotten nowhere with either company and am very frustrated.i have spent over $70 on balance and front end alignment plus travel and time.furthermore i'm back where i started.both companies are stating that they have seen the problem before and that it is a defect in the other companies product.i do not know who to believe but i would like to resolve this.is there any defects you are aware of on the goodyear wrangler gsa 31x10.50r 15lt? or on the toyota tacoma prerunner trd package 15 inch rim? The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

At this point i am lucky to evidently be alive.i've already replaced the tires at my expense instead of waiting for firestone to get off the dime.i have since written them an e-mail expressing my anger and dismay at a company that considers the value of their product more important than the human lives they may have been responsible for.( dot number: tire size: p215sr14 )

My tires have developed "flat spots" on them. I took the truck to the car dealer and they told me to take it to a tire dealer. The tire dealer told me it was the truck causing the problem and firestone would not coverthe defect. I have kept the truck maintained and tires rotated and balanced. I feel either firestone or toyota should be responsible for my problem. I am concerned that it might be more of a tire problem since there have been problems with the other size of wilderness tires.( dot number: w2 tire size: p26575/r15 )

My firestone wilderness tire exploded just as the others have been described.yet my tire size and manufacturer location is not one that is being recalled.i have been waiting for the recall to be expanded and it hasn't .a local firestone store on erie blvd. In syracuse, ny informed me that the recall is ongoing and will probably expand.i had to change a sidewall exploded flat on the highway in 90 degree heat and then a year later i find that the same things were happening to others only with more drastic results.my experience leads me to believe that the location and size have nothing to do with it.i think it is the design and all wilderness at's should be recalled. From the day we bought the truck there was a loud noise coming from one pair of our tires. As we rotated them at each 5k mile intravels the noise would move with them. We took the truck to the frontier toyota dealer in valencia for service on 7/13/00. They charged us for a tire rotation and balance and alignment. Afterwards the noise was unbearable and the truck developed a extreme vibration and shimmy. The tires were on the verge of disintegrating. We again returned the truck to frontier toyota who replaced the two (2) subject tires. The problem disappered. Our truck is currently running smoother than when we originaly purchased it. All of the associated squeaks and noises from the vibration has also disappeared. We are displeased that the dealer should have known about the tire recall for similar tires and yet chose to charge us for an unneccesary alignment. We believe that there are serious defects in many more tire sizes than have been recalled and ask that you investigate the entire product line of tires from firestone.( dot number: w29v tire size: p265/75r15 )

My truck frame had a recall and toyota told me it was solid. I had it rustproofed and today while driving home on the back road with my dogs in the truck my leaf spring fell off the frame due to a rotted frame. If i had been on a highway doing 60, i would not be writing you. Had to have it brought home on a flat bed truck and call for a ride for me and the dogs. Disgusting! they still are having problems with these frames on newer models and are not willing to work with me to repair this problem.

I bought a 1999 toyota tacoma from a private party a couple of years ago. When i went to register the vehicle the title came back as a "rebuild". Just recently i got a recall notice from toyota corporate with the vin of my vehicle printed on it telling me that there is a buy back for vehicles of my year and vin. I called toyota corporate about a month back and ended up speaking with a case manager concerning the buy back/recall notice and inquired if i was covered under this notice that i received as my title was a "rebuild". In maine there is a salvage title and also a rebuild title which are not the same thing. My rebuild title did not have anything to do with the frame being damaged or replaced and it is the same one this vehicle was manufactured with. The truck looks almost new. There is no rust anywhere on this vehicle except where the frame is rotted to the point the vehicle is probably unsafe. The rust starts just in front of the spring shackle supports and runs about 1 1/2 feet on both sides of frame. The toyota rep stated it was not covered and they were not going to do anything about the issue because of the title. I informed the man at toyota that this vehicle may have a rebuild title but the frame rotting out had nothing to do with the damage to the vehicle that created the rebuild title but was still a result of toyota using inferior materials when dana manufactured the frame for toyota. The case manager informed me that the previous owner had already had that vehicle to the dealer about a year before i bought it and was denied warranty coverage due to the title being a "rebuild". I then asked him, if they already knew that the previous owner had already been denied claim under the recall program, "why did they send me the notice with the same vin informing me of the recall?" he did not have a valid answer for that question.

I have had a 1997 toyota tacoma and the frame broke.now i have a 1999 toyota tacoma and the frame has broken because of rust.we want to know if the toyota is standing by and repairing or if they are giving compensation for this issue.how do we find out about this?the truck looks very nice. Everything else works and looks like nothing is wrong.something has to be defective.

Rusted frame.

My son was in an accident with my toyota tacoma truck in march.he lost control and totaled the truck.i was recently informed that there was a recall on toyota tacoma for rusted frames.i was told the frame was bent after the accident.therefore i thought that the rusted frame may have caused the accident.i called the toyota dealer and was told because the vehicle was in an accident and no longer registered it was not eligible for the recall.the frame is badly rusted and may have caused the accident, but because it is no longer drivable the dealer will not inspect it for the rusted frame so i am not eligible for the recall.

Frame has holes. Vehicle was ok until this year. Not safe to drive. Toyota will do nothing

In the summer of 2016 i had noticed a long strip of metal hanging below my 1999 toyota tacoma. It turned out to be a part of the frame.after a more thorough investigation i had found the whole frame rusted.then through research deemed it not safe to drive.in 2009 , after hearing from a friend(not toyota), of an frame rust issue i made an appointment for an inspection at the dealer and was told it was good with no recommendation to replace nor treat . I left thinking i had a good one (frame) that wasn't affected by the rust problem.fast forward to 2016 when obvious signs of the issue become present and then find out there was a 15 year window to have the frame replaced, treated or bought back.this was not my daily driver but depended on frequently for hauling and projects. So here it sits going on three years still not knowing what to do with it.it runs great and too nice to scrap. And probably to costly to fix. A buy back would be the best resolution

On 02/12/09 automobile dealership inspected, found, photographed and documented rust perforation on the frame of my 1999 truck with only 72,000 miles. The truck was in pristine condition otherwise. A previous independent welder/hitch installed declared the frame too thin and weak to install any kind of trailer hitch on the back and there was massive puffy, swollen, flaky, rusty areas to the frame only visible underneath the truck. The manufacturer received the e-mailed pictured from the dealer and denied coverage under the extended warranty, and the platinum vehicle service agreement, tat cost $ 1,175. The service manager explained the decision was totally made by the manufacturer based on the few e-mailed pictured, he had nothing to do with it, and further, he had seen less rusty frames than mine taken off the road immediately and bough back under the recall program. I was sent back on the road to deal with the frame myself and i immediately wrote two letter pleading the manufacturer for another inspection at another dealer. I was denied that request. Meanwhile, two independent mechanics advised me not to drive it. I mostly park the truck in my driveway and tried not to think about the monthly payments and insurance that continue. The registration expired in my driveway and i did not renew it until the homeowners association rules required it. On 10/13/10, i drove my truck to the dealership and it was inspected again. I was told the corporation would buy it back under the recall. This time there could be no mistake with pictured, because this time holes existed and there was no steel left in the areas. My truck remains at the dealership and maybe the nhtsa should inspect it to see how a vehicle has to be before the corporation will do anything. Updated 01/20/11

1999 toyota tacoma. S10 appropriate handling- letter from regarding toyota problems *tgw

The toyota tacoma 1999 has a complete damaged , rusted, broken frame which is dangerous. I took the car to the dealer and they said the recall for the frame is already expired and they will not accept it, what could i do to resolve this issue. Thank you

This 1999 toyota tacoma frame is completely corroded and cracked. Vehicle is essentially useless, nearly valueless, and a financial and safety liability.when i brought this tacoma to northern new york four and a half years ago, the frame was in nearly mint condition, as was the rest of the truck. Four and a half years later the frame is completely rotten with rust while the rest of the truck is in great condition. There is no outward indication that the truck is ready to catastrophically fail at any moment.the extremely poor corrosion resistance of these toyota frames is an unacceptable risk to american consumers. This poses a risk to my family's safety and the public's as well. This also represents a financial liability. Toyota pickups are valued in the marketplace as a top tier vehicle, but in reality have a negative value. I and others have each lost thousands of dollars in this investment while toyota is one of the most profitable auto makers in the world.i demand that we protect consumers for the good of the whole and pressure toyota to recall and notify the public of the risks with these pickup frames.

When vehicle was put into drive it accelerated suddenly and unexpectedly.driver put vehicle into reverse, eventually resulting in a collision.manufacturer has been notified.ak

While driving approximately 35 mph the i applied pressure to the brake pedal and the vehicle accelerated.

Leaving automotive shop from having regular oil change; pulled into turn lane, behind several cars, put foot on brake-engine accelerated resulting in rear -end collisionhave had several additional occurrences that did not result in collision. The accident resulted in ticketing, increase insurance and points on license.

While trying to accelerate up to local or highway speed the 1999 toyota tacoma pickup i have owned from day one has always had a problem accelerating up to speed, creating the danger of being struck from behind bytraffic. I have been complaining about this defect for years and have documentation to prove it. The just blow you off over and over again until you just give up and either sell the vehicle or just deal with it. I am taking this time to offer you this complaint to illustrate how this company has an undeserved reputation for reliability and customer satisfaction.

The contact owns a 1999 toyota tacoma 4x4 v6. The contact stated that the vehicle abnormally accelerated and crashed into the garage. The vehicle was shut off and the key was not in the ignition when the failure occurred. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic who stated the problem was caused by a starter shortage. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
