Driving south on macintosh rd. Tried to avoid hitting a car that made an illegal u-turn in front of me. I ran into the wall hard enough to knock the wall (cement) down. The air bag did not deploy. I have a 1997 toyota tacoma 4x4 that blew a head gasket. After talking with my brother he advised that the truck had a recall on the faulty head gasket. I looked on toyota's website and there was a recall for my vin# for a faulty head gasket. I called toyota this morning and they said therecall had expired in 2005 and there was nothing they could do. They said they had sent recall notices to all owners. I have never received a recall notice for this truck for a head gasket. The truck has always been maintained and has had proper service. I feel that the head gasket is a known problem with this vehicle and should be fixed under this recall. If i would have received the recall notice they would have had to fix the vehicle then.
Date of purchase toyota of somerset reported this was a second buyer.they reported a lady had owned the vehicle.through carfax i found me to be the 5th owner.they did not have the warranty information in with the manual information.they did not supply this at time of purchase and has not offered upon request.they said they would honor the service.upon the reverse coming out there was disagreement and the service manager, mr. Turpin and mr. Johnson were very adamant and refused to honor the mfg. Warranty on the drive train.they first asked $700 and then negotiated for $450.which i refused.needless to say we do not have any correspondence but i still have to drive without reverse in my vehicle.this is why i did not report the lug nuts breaking and causing my wheel to fall off and causing damage to the truck.toyota of somerset does not offer assistance and accuses abuse.

When putting the truck in the park position the whole handle came off. Took to a dealer and was told that the parking brake cable wasn't connected to hold the handle.
My 97 tacoma truck had a recall on the frame rusting. It was checked and said it was ok. 2 years after the recall has lapsed the frame has rusted with big holes showing and is a danger to drive. Toyota says they won't do nothing about the rusted frame...which was a problem before. My oldest son who just got his license is driving it now and i'm afraid the frame will collapse and he will wreck. What can be done to help get a replacement frame for the truck? thanks for all your help. While driving experienced abs failure when attempting to slow/stop, pedal went to floor, vehicle continued to roll forward, rear brakes locked up, brake action was inadequate to effectively avoid rear ending at approx. 40mph fast enough.
Brake pads failed. 2 shoes on rear put on backwards. Short needed in back & long in front according to dealer. Front disc pads replaced due to rear brakes. Also, had to replace rotors.
Front disc brakes will lock up when applied, with the rear brakes having a delay in sequence for stopping from the front, because of this erratic performance, the truck was involved in a collision. Consumer stated while driving 30- 35 mph on a wet road, he came upon an accident he when he attempted to apply the brakes the front wheels locked up and was unable to steer and slid into the path of oncoming traffichitting another vehicle.
Brake system has continually experienced problems since 3,000 miles, replacements made on several occasions, however components continually experience excessive wear due to defective system. Mjs

The steering wheel began making noises 7 months after it was purchased new. Dealer took the dash out, replaced something and put it back together again. 7 months later the sound began again. Three letters totoyota complaining about this problem were totally ignored. I visited the dealer in tucson, az about this and i wanted the problem solved at toyota expense. Again i was put off and the rattle has persisted to this day. I am tired of listening to this rattle every time i drive the truck. If there is anything you can do to help me get the toyota folks to repair, replace or put a grease fitting on the defective parts in the column, please let me know. Thank you.
1. Driving normally, my 1997 toyota tacoma's front passenger tire fell off at an intersection. The ball joint failed. It was towed to a service place today. Had i been driving at highway speed, myself and passengers could have been killed or seriously injured.2. Has not happened before. The vehicle is well maintained.3. Waiting on repair parts and estimate.

While drivingbolts broke off the driveshaft separatingrear axle and hitting the gas tank. One of the two bolts holding the drive shaft fell out causing the drive shaft to fall and resulting in rear axle separation and riping a hole in the gas tank.
I have a 97 tacoma extended cab. At about 30k miles, the truck's black paint started to crack under the clearcoat. I have been told by a toyota approved bodyshop that is was called "crow's feet". The bodyshop said that it was nothing that i could have done, that it was a defect from the factory.i then took the truck to the dealer where i got it from, and they prolonged dealing with the issue until the truck ran out of warranty. I have about 134k now on the truck, and it also has a bad valve tick that from what i read on the internet seems not uncommon for this engine. I know that some time has past, but i just found this site. I think that something should be done about the way this company treats their customers. This truck was not cheap, even for the winter of 1998.
Found out i have a whole in the body frame.
I bought this pick up from wilson toyota,(ames,ia), on jan.17,2009.in the walk around/inspection of the vehicle, while talking with the salesman i layed on the ground, and crawled under the pick up looking for any signs of trouble. Noting the frame problems i'd had with another toyota(1984) asked if toyota had "cleaned" up their act and made the under carriage any better? was assured "that those problems were all behind them".fast forward ^ years i'm paying a local body shop to replace the rear 60% of the frame @ a cost of $1800.00.now i find i'm having to fix/replace parts of the front end frame.
The contact owns a 1997 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle shook and the subframe fractured half. The vehicle was driven to the smithtown toyota dealer located at 360 jericho turnpike, smithtown, ny 11787. Where it was stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. The truck had been riding rougher on the roads when family following one day noticed the truck leaning left. It was brought to the repair shop thinking it was a suspension problem.it ended up being major rust and corrosion to the frame that was so bad there was no structural support of the struts and springs. Owner of the auto shop as well as a body repair shop it was taken to said i was extremely luckythere was no wreck or injury. The problems are so extensive that it is not safe to drive. Now i am stuck with a toyota truck that should have lasted easily another 100,000 miles.the frame was expected to last longer then the truck when purchased as toyota used to be a good company and product. My first truck was a toyota back in 1976.there was a recall that i was never notified of regarding this problem. The personal and financial impact this has caused is significant. Toyota needs to make restitution as evidence indicates it has been a long standing problem with cheaper/inferior frames used by toyota going back several years. Thecurrent mileage is 188,000, but the problems has existed for awhile based on the amount of damage.

Took vehicle to curry honda to have part installed and they performed multi point inspection. Upon inspection found frame is rusted out and vehicle is unsafe to drive.have not driven it since, and am without a vehicle. Can provide photos and documentation.
The toyota tacoma i bought in 1997 is in excellent mechanical condition.how ever it is in horrible structural condition, with a frame that is almost completely rusted through, and no longer safe to drive.i took the truck to kings toyota to get inspected and they told me that since the truck has passed the 15 yr warranty extension, that there is nothing they could do for me and allowed me to drive the truck off of their lot.i then called toyota and they said that unfortunately i am out of luck, since the truck is a year past the extended warranty.my complaint is that this was the result of toyota not having adequate corrosion-resistant protection.they investigated this problem and came to the conclusion that the protection was in fact inadequate. Yet they allow people to continue to drive on the roads with their product that they know is unsafe.
The contact owns a 1997 toyota tacoma. While the vehicle was at an independent mechanic for routine maintenance, the mechanic found that the driver's side frame area was corroded and had holes. The contact stated that the manufacturer performed a repair under warranty for the frame undercoating for 1995 to 2005 tacoma vehicles, which did not correct the corrosion failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer wascontacted. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 105,000.*pmconsumer stated frame was once coated in 2011, now peeling and corroded.
My truck was brought in for inspection after the frame rot recall at parkway toyota at 50 sylvan ave englewood cliffs nj in july 2008. They inspected the vehicle and told us the frame was safe though there was some surface rust. It was deemed no repair necessary. Now in april of 2013 my truck needed a tune up and after that was done we were told they spotted potentially dangerous corrosion of the frame. I took the truck to a body mechanic who advised me not to drive this car because the frame is dangerously rotted and is not repairable. Toyota has told us they will not repair or replace the truck. I believe when i originally brought my truck in to be inspected for rust they missed the early stages of frame rot which should have been addressed at that time and therefore should honor the frame warranty extension issued in the recall.

This complaint is regarding problems i have had with my 1997 toyota tacoma and with toyota headquarters living up to their recall of 1995-2000 tacoma's with frame rust/failure. On april 25, 2008 i purchased a used 1997 toyota tacoma from a used car dealer for $3200.on or about october 15th, 2008 i experienced a total failure of the passengers side ball joint causing me to lose control of the vehicle and running off onto the median.when getting the vehicle repaired, the service man told that my frame looked bad and that i should take it to a toyota dealer to get it checked for frame rust.he told me that toyota was either fixing or buying back the trucks with bad frames.on or about october 22, 2008 i took my 1997 tacoma to brad hughes toyota in prestonsburg ky for an evaluation of the frame.the dealer confirmed that my truck did indeed have a bad frame and that toyota would contact me.they said that i could expect to receive 150% of kelley blue book value and that i would be contacted within 2 weeks with an offer on my truck.on november 20, 2008 i received a call from charles zachary of toyota headquarters, phone number 1-800-331-4331.mr zachary offered me $1500 (kbb blue book trade in value), not 150% as promised in the letter that toyota promised in the recall letter.although i am worried about the bad frame, i had to decline the offer.i can't afford to lose $2700 on a truck i purchased earlier this year.mr zachary's reason for offering so little was that i bought the truck after march, when the letters went out.and that the dealer that i bought the truck was responsible for selling me a truck with a bad frame.toyota is putting lives in danger by refusing to live up to their promise of buying back the vehicles that have bad frames.the service dept at the toyota dealer where i took my truck for inspection said that i was getting a raw deal from toyota.they said that they had never heard of this happening before. I am afraid to drive it.
Frame rust holes excessive swiss cheese look.
I am the owner of a 1997 toyota tacoma 4x4. It is my understanding that toyota has an inspection and repair program for 1995 to 2000 tacomas. I have requested an inspection of my vehicle. They have not given me any answer to my request. Their attitude is that rust is not an issue in california. They think that rust stops at the border. All that i asked for was a simple inspection so that rust thru warranty can be applied. Thank you for your help.
I purchased a used 1997 toyota tacoma on 3/15/07 with a rotted frame. Fortunately i had another garage check out the truck within 30 days of purchase while warranty from dealer was still in effect. I want to report this so that this vehicle will not be purchased by anyone. It was not ny state road worthy, per state inspection criteria.the vehicle wasgreen, 4wd, extend cab. Purchased in rochester, ny. I was able to returnit for a full refund, but want to be sure the crooked dealer was not reselling the vehicle.he also had another black tacoma, 1998 with the same problem, bought both of them at auction.
The chassis (frame) rotted and cracked just behind both the driver's door and the passenger's door.the truck is now unsafe to use because it might break ( in two.the frame is the main supporting structure of the vehicle. I believe this is an engineering defect.
Both frame rails rotted out, making truck unsafe to drive.
1997 toyota tacoma pick up truck was on a lift for service.the frame rails were rotted due to rust problems acknowledged by toyota.the frame broke in half and the bed of the truck reached the floor while the truck was suspended on the lift.the truck was unsafe and had to be taken out of service at that time.i have contacted toyota and am awaiting their response.i need to know what recourse i have as i would still have the truck on the road if it was not for the rust problem.
The contact owns a 1997 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the rear driver and passenger side frames were corroded. As a result, the frames were rusting and falling apart. The dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 195,000.
I purchased my 1997 toyota tacoma in 2003.although this truck was in an accident it was completely restored, inspected and issued a pennsylvania reconstructed title. It is important to note that the frame was not damaged in the accident.in late, march of 2008 i heard about the frame problem and took this truck to allegheny toyota, the local dealer, for an inspection of the frame. The frame was checked for corrosion and i was not permitted to take it off the lot as it was unsafe to drive.on april 9th, i received a call from the toyota company telling me that the car didn't qualify for the customer support program because of the reconstructed title. Knowing the frame was unsafe i was told to pick up the truck and until the frame is repaired it is not road worthy. My complaint is that toyota has full knowledge that the frame is faulty due to excessive rust corrosion but refuses to cover the vehicle solely because of the reconstructed title.if it weren't for the rusted frame this truck would still be in service. At this point i'm afraid to drive it and don't believe i should have to pay for a repair to a problem that toyota admits to knowing but are selectively trying to avoid for this vehicle.the reconstructed title has nothing to do with the excessive rust corrosion of the frame and i would expect them to cover this vehicle under the customer support program.
The contact owns a 1997 toyota tacoma. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop for an alignment. The technician stated that a part of the frame was missing due to extreme rust. The vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 07v013000 (suspension) but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was invalid. The approximate failure mileage was 240,000. Updated 06/02/17*lj*as
This concerns the toyota rusty frame problem in tacomas.my 1997 tacoma is becoming dangerous because of the frame but toyota refuses any help because of a reconstructed title which has nothing to do with the rusty frame problem. As a taxpayer i would like to see toyota address this at the current congressional hearings. Toyota is basically using a legal loophole to leave dangerous vehicles on the road.
The contact owns a 1997 toyota tacoma. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the frame was rusted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 157,000.
Hi,ihave a 1997 tacoma. Within the past year the frame has rusted to the point that i can put a screwdriver thru it and it cant be repaired. I fear i'll have to junk the vehicle. What type of metal did they use? toyota or consumer affairs should look into this. The rest of the truck is fine. If anyone know who can help please let me know. Bummed!
The contact owns a 1997 toyota tacoma. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic to have the muffler replaced. The mechanic stated that the vehicle could not be repaired due to rust on the frame. The dealer (toyota of louisville, 6514 dixie hwy, louisville, ky 40258) stated that the contact needed to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the extended warranty for the frame expired on july 31, 2014. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000.
I own a 1997 toyota tacoma that should fall into their rusty frame recall but was told it didn't qualify because of a rebuilt title.the truck has been on the road for approximately 6 years since the rebuild.the frame is very rusty and i've had to have it welded.it seems to me the frame rust has nothing to do with the fact that the truck was in an accident and the recall should be in effect, probably with a lower reimbursement due to the salvage title.if the point is to get unsafe vehicles off the road, a rusty frame is a rusty frame whether the truck has been rebuilt or not.it's actually a very nice truck except for the frame.
I noticed bubbling of the coating applied to the frame by the manufacturer and when i poked at it the metal underneath fell away.i did a google search on corroded tacoma frames and discovered i was not alone and if other owners have complained i wanted to add mine.the frame is corroded in numerous locations and without repair could fail in the event of a collision. I am going to have the frame repaired by having new metal welded in. I realize the vehicle is ten years old and most of the complaints i found online referenced the ninety-nine model year. I should add until two years ago i had a 1967 datsun 1300 pickup and its frame was intact. This is not normal corrosion!
The contact owns a 1997 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the subframe was extremely rusted, making the vehicle unsafe to drive. The contact stated that a friend told him that the frame was rusted and needed to be taken to the dealer. The dealer was not called. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 172,774.
1997 toyota tacoma extended cab v6 4wdi had my truck in my local toyota dealership for new plugs and wires and a faulty injector. The service manager called and said that when they hoisted the truck up on the lift they discovered severe rusting on the frame. The worst was just forward of the rear leaf springs. They said it was so bad that they wondered if i wanted to proceed with the servicing. I couldn't believe it! i thought, the truck is only 10years old, how bad can it be. I went up and took a look and the rust had actually eaten through the steel. I could push my finger through it. Unbelievable! the body of the truck is in great condition and up until now it has been very good mechanically. It is very unnerving. I'm afraid it will not pass inspection and i'll have to claim a total loss. What recourse do i have? thanks.
I have a 1997 toyota tacoma, i discovered frame rot in front of the rear spring shackles. There was still underbody paint on the frame in that area which when removed revealed the serious corrosion of the frame rail. After further inspection i found severe corrosion throughout the frame. The bumper brackets are barely holding up the bumper.
The contact owns a 1997 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the bumper was rusted. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for a windshield wiper repair and the dealer recommended that the vehicle no longer be driven due to the severity of the rust. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not eligible for assistance. The failure mileage was 170,000.updated 01/23/13*ljthe consumer stated he noticed pealing wafers of rust flaking off the frame, in january 2011. Prior to 2011, he noticed rust coming through the chrome of the rear bumper where it connected to the frame and years prior to that he noticed increased rust texture on the frame when he looked under the truck bed at the rear tires.updated 01/31/13
My husband has a 1997 toyota tacoma. He bought it used from a dealership in 2004. Recently he saw that the frame underneath was rusted and rotting out. Someone told him that toyota was taking care of this problem and their customers because it turns out that this is a manufacturer's defect in this year, make and model. Well, they told us tat we would have had to have the vehicle in by february to receive the 15 year extended warranty. We were never contacted by toyota, they do not have us as the current owner and my husband could have had another 5 or so yearswith this vehicle. 15 years should be up in december, but they say that they are going by the date it was sold or something. This vehicle is practically undrivable and toyota basically said oh, well, you were too late. I feel that they should have done a better job contacting their customers and i have found evidence of many other dissatisfied customers on the internet who also were not notified and who also missed the deadline. I believe that this is not right, and if it is a manufacturer defect it should be taken care of regardless of weather we brought it in 9 months ago or today. The toyota representative said that there was no leeway in this and that there was no else i could take this issue up with. I am asking for your help in this matter.
The frame of my 1997 toyota tacoma pick up is rotted through in several places making it potentially dangerous to drive.
No incident -- vehicle would not pass pa inspection -- not safe to drive.rear frame is completely rotted out with rust.
Recently noticed a knocking noise coming from the rear of my truck.upon inspection, i noticed that the frame, just before the leaf springs, has completely rusted and cracked.i have yet to figure out how to correct the failure.i fear the truck is now unsafe to drive.
I bought the above mentioned truck new in 1997. For the past few years it's just been sitting in my driveway because the frame is so rusted it's not safe to drive. A mechanic friend of mine said there was a recall on that year of truck. My wife called toyota and was told the recall was expired but they couldn't give a date. I called today and they said it wasn't a recall but an extension on the life of the frame for fifteen years (same thing). The body of the truck is in good shape for its age. The engine only has 126k miles which is nothing for a toyota. I should still be driving this truck today. I take care of everything i have so it will last.biggest issue here is i was never notified there was anything wrong with the frame. I'm the original owner so it's not like toyota didn't know who had the truck or where i was living. It needs to be fixed or i should receive compensation for the truck and not being able to use it for quite some time now.
The contact owns a 1997 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that when the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for routine maintenance, the technician informed that the sub frame, the left rear wheel, the leaf springs and the chassis were severely corroded and the vehicle was unsafe to be driven. The manufacturer was notified and informed that the corrosion buy back program was no longer valid. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 189,000.
Vehicle's suspension is unstable, design does not include rear sway bar and the shocks absorbers are inadequate.
Suspension is very unstable, causing loss of control.
I have rusty holes in my frame and toyota wont fix something that is so dangerous and now my tacoma is unsafe to drive, what am i suppose to do now?!
Frame rust. Not made aware of recall or extended warranty. Frame is severely corroded and has a hole where the shock absorber use to mount. It literally fell off due to rust. Several other areas showing signs of corrosion as well. Seems this is not an uncommon problem. Not sure it is safe to drive. Toyota dealership says there is nothing they can do.
The forward leaf spring mount on the drivers side rear leaf spring broke up and into the frame rail.this vehicle easily had another 100,000 miles of life left in it, but nhtsa evidently does not think that frame rails rotting away due to a manufacturing defect is a safety concern, and has not forced toyota into recall mode.there is a great number of these vehicles on the road yet.i was lucky that when mine failed, it did not cause an accident.i'm sure there will be some that won't be as lucky.
Updated 06/02/17*lj*as
Recently purchase 1997 tacoma took it to replace rear tires shop informed me the frame had major rot and is not safe for highway.contacted local toyota dealer they preformed a free inspection on 08-29-16 upon completion of this inspection dealership informed me both in writing and verbally that this vehicle is not safe for highway use. Multiple rust perforations through out frame of this truck.dealership informed me that the recall on the frame had expired however they stated that if we file a formal complaint with toyota through your organization that we could possiblily get a cash settlement for this tacoma.
The contact owns a 1997 toyota tacoma. The contact stated that the front driver side ball joint was repaired twice. The front passenger side coil spring was replaced once. Each time the ball joints failed, it caused the vehicle to fall to the ground and would need a special truck to towing. The contact stated that the dealer repaired the vehicle, but had never given a cause for the failure. The contact stated the failure recurred within seven months apart.the failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 144,000.
My lee springs are rusted frame is to lee's springs are broken
The contact owns a 1997 toyota tacoma.the contact stated that the front axle failed on may 29, 2007.he called the local toyota dealer who looked up his vin.the vehicle was not included in the recalls issued for older models of his vehicle.the contact's insurance agency referred him to nhtsa.the engine size was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 201,000.the lower ball joint had failed. Updated 07/06/07.
While driving and without warning, the upper ball joint broke and the front wheel came off, resulting in a rollover, there were 2 injuries.. Consumer believes that part was defective and that manufacturer should replace vehicle.
Vehicle's suspension is unstable, design does not include rear sway bar and the shocks absorbers are inadequate.

Vehicle's suspension is unstable, design does not include rear sway bar and the shocks absorbers are inadequate.
Rear suspension and body of vehicle sags and driving and handling are negatively effected.
Left rear leaf spring separated/causing left rear to sag.
Consumer complains that rear leaf springs do not meet load specs as specified by manufacturer, causing vibration.
I am the original owner of a 1997 toyota tacoma 4x4 lx. I have experienced suspension problems for the last 6 years. The rear leaf springs will not support the weight of the stock vehicle. I have tried several times to get toyota to replace them with larger springs. Toyota has turned their back on me and several friends that have the same problem. I installed aftermarket helper springs and one of them broke as it was overloaded because of the weak factory springs. I now have a drivetrain noise because the driveshaft is at an improper angle due to the sag in the leaf springs.
I am the original owner of a 1997 toyota tacoma sr5, 4wd extra cab. I recently noticed the bed of my truck was sagging on the passenger side. I took my truck to a toyota dealer service shop and they discovered that the leaf spring is broken on the passenger side.i have not done anything to cause this to happen to my truck.i do not have a towing hitch on my truck therefore, i do not tow heavy loads or any loads for that matter.i do not put heavy loads in the bed of my truck.i don not use my truck for hauling things. I have never installed a camping shell or any shell on the bed of my truck.i have never taken my truck off road and gone "four wheeling".therefore, i am at a quandary as to why this would happen.i have not yet replaced the leaf spring.however, the driver side leaf spring will also need to be replaced because of sag.the toyota service department at the dealership has not offered to replace the leaf spring free of charge.
I noticed a noise coming from underneath my vehicle and noticed that the right leaf spring had broken. I am the original owner, the vehicle had 57,000 miles on it when this occurred. This vehicle has never been abused and has been given proper maintenance.i feel that this is an item the mfg. Should stand behind.
Tire completely came apart, same thing happened to a friend of mine with similiar truck. These tires should also be included in the current recall!( dot number: w2hy tire size: p215/70r14 )

While my tire size is not included in the current firestone recall, cracks are clearlly visible along the side of the tread of all four tires.i am very concerned.( dot number: tire size: p225/75r15 )
Consumer was not able to access the spare tire without having to remove the bumper.
Had the first tire inspected for a nail, screw, any foreign object to identify why a v-shaped whole occurred in my tire that the steel cable was cut and showing.when my right front tire blew out in may 2000, i also had it inspected to identify why my sidewall of my tire blew out so suddenly.again, there was no nail or foreign object in the tire.( dot number: tire size: p225/75r15 )
The first failure was written up by the firestone dealer as "splits in tread area". It was splitting around the circumfrence of the tire. I noticed it while washing the truck. The second failure happened while driving. Some stones had washed on to the pavement, due to heavy rain. One of the stones penatrated the tread area, in the same area as the other one had split. It seems to me that this is a very weak area for a truck tire. I did not contact firestone because i figured they would say it was a road hazard.d( dot number: tire size: 31x10.50x1 )

It appears to be the clear coat of the paint job has been coming off for a very long time. Really does not look good at all now. I reside in the state of oregon. Although it rains a fair amount here, that should not cause this rate of decay of the paint job. It was not painted very well!!
Took 1997toyota tacoma to dealer in august of 2011 for frame rust recall. Was told frame was fine and they would spray frame with rustproofing material at no cost. Returned to dealer in november 2014 frame was rusting through. Told by dealer they could respray but were now not responsible for rust through and said i could contact toyota. I did so and they said that recall campaign had expired and they would do nothing. I believe i originally returned to dealer when recall was in effect and all they did was hide the problem until the recall expired. Their lifetime rustproofing lasted only 3 years.
Frame rot.had a recal, in 05 23 2011 and was done at gateway toyota nj. Applied corrosion preventative compound and now frame is rotted badly and not safe
Recently purchased 97 toyota tacoma from private owner who claims he never received the notifications regarding the frame warranty extension from toyota and subsequently he never had the vehicle repaired. Now the frame on the vehicle is unsafe and i notified toyota who claims the extension expired and they refuse to do anything to help me, hopefully something can be done by someone because they are allowing unsafe vehicles to stay on the road because they do not want to pay anymore $ then they have to. Meanwhile they acknowledge that the frame issue was clearly their fault. Please help
My 1997 toyota tacoma has severe frame rust. The tech at hudson toyota in new jersey wouldn't even take for a test drive. I noticed the rust forming in 2010 but was unaware of the extended warranty placed by toyota until 2014, after it had expired. Very frustrating. Mileage as of 9/11/15 is 190k.
Was driving vehicle; came to complete stop; took foot off brakes; vehicle surged forward suddenly; rearended vehicle in front; took to dealer & had problem fixed; happened again; took to dealer brought it from & informed not able to correct problem; was set at mfgr.
Vehicle has surged twice now with myself and once when my wife was driving while appling the brakes. It feels like the accelerator is being depresses. It has happened bothe time with me when braking on hard bumpy surface. Also thee is a distinct clunk in the rear end of the truck when the brakes are released after stopping. This has been in the truck since the day i got it and the dealer has been unable to solve the problem as it doesn't do it all the time.
Vehicle experienced sudden acceleration resulting in loss of control and vehicle collision.
The consumer was in a line of cars when he took foot off brakes to accelerate but the vehicle suddenly surged forward at fast moderate speed. This caused the consumer to hit the vehicle in front.
When applying the gas pedal it gets stuck in an accelerating position. Dealer says the problem is normal.
When taking foot of the accelerator pedal the truck idles too fast. Please provide details.
Fogging inside windshield during heater/defrost operation. Sometime fogging without operating heater/defrost controls.a/c will not clear windshield or side windows.
Vehicle is on its 6th windshield due to cracks.
Vehicle's front wheels do not stay in contact with the road while driving. This is most noticeable around corners and traveling over potholes ,occurs at any speed.cause has not been determined.
While the consumer changed a flat tire the wheel stud broke off.*nlm
Center hole in stamped steel rim is too small to properly fit over center hub.tightening the lug nuts will effect a "press fit" over the hub, making it virtually impossible to remove the front wheel in the event of a flat tire, etc.road service truck driver unable to remove wheel.truck driver had to haul truck on flatbed to a garage where an impact hammer had to be used to remove the wheel from the hub.this is a potentially dangerous situation when a driver cannot change a tire, and must resort to towing to a garage for what should be an easily performed task.
