My drivers side airbag deployed without any warning on saturday, october 19,2019. I was not involved in any accident or collision. The vehicle was already in the park position and the motor shutoff. I was pulling into my driveway with my son and beforei could remove my keys from the ignition and exit my truck, the airbag deployed, smacking me directly in my face. Im sure this was due to a malfunction of some kind because ive been owning this vehicle since 1996 and this has never happened. Normally if the airbags deploy the engine will not be able to start but in this situation my motor still turns on but its unsafe to even drive around with the deployed airbag dangling from the center of the steering wheel how it is. I use this car everyday for work but now im immobile due to this. Luckily i didnt suffer any bodily injuries more than puffiness on the leftside of my face and redness from the impact. My face did swell up a little and my left eye was pretty red and irritated. Something needs to be done about this because its definitely not safe. I never imagined that toyota would be dealing with this issue especially if my vehicle wasn'tpart of the recalls in the past years.
Arriving at stop light, vehicle in front stopped short, toyota's front brakes locked up, slid into/rearended vehicle in front, air bag did not deploy.

When placing the clutch in gear consumer noticed there is vibrationin the front end. Alsowhen the clutch is placed in gear and upon depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle is at a death stop rpm race. Consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer stated the clutch burned out and need replacement. Please provide any further details.
First the clutch pedal bracket bolt fell out whle stopping at an intersection. After pushing the vehicle across three lanes of traffic i put the bolt back in and proceeded to my destination. The clutch did not seem to work correctly thereafter. I took it to an independent toyota maintenance shop and had they adjusted the clutch pedal. Things appeared to work ok after that for about a month. Then the bolt started backing out again, so i observed the lock washer was no longer functioning as designed and replaced the lock washer. Things seemed ok for about another month, and then i heard popping and squeaking when i depressed the clutch pedal. On further inspection, i found the clutch pedal bracket to be cracked at the firewall. Toyota customer service refuses to admit they have a safety design problem and have no service bulletins on the issue.
Bolt that holds clutch pedal assembly fell out, could not shift and when engine turned off, unable to re-start.
Could not shift into 1st, 2nd, 5th, reverse.replaced cracked clutch pedal bracket and repaired cracks in firewall where bracket attaches.problem appears to be fixxed.

Seat belts loose and do not retract properly.
Seat belt locks up and you can not pull it out to lock in place.
Drivers seatbelt will only buckle if consumer pushes release button to slide latch into buckle.consumer was informed by dealer that seat belt was no longer under warranty and they would not replace it.
Drivers side seat belts do not retract properly.do to this condition excess slack is often caught in the door while driving causing an unsafe condition. The passenger seat belt also performs poorly.it occasionally will not give enough slack for the passenger to fasten the seat belt.i have had the drivers side belt replaced numerous times due to abrasions it has received from being caught in the door.the passenger belt has also been replaced once.i beleive that since this is such a critical safety component that it should be recalled.
The seat belt does not retract properly causing the belt to get closed in the door.nlm
Both front seatbelts fail to retract.often since they don't retract, they get caught in the door when closed and cannot restrain the driver/passenger in a crash.please help!they've been replaced by capital toyota in salem oregon, once.thank you!
The seat belt does not retract properly causing the belt to get closed in the door.nlm
Seat belt tensioner too weak and allows seat belt to hang loose once buckled.unwary driver closes door and a loop of seat belt hangs outside vehicle.could result in catastrophic results in crash.not uncommon for me to see other t100 pickups driving down the road with a loop of belt visible outside the vehicle.
Front seat belt won't retract.

Dt*: the contact stated when an independent mechanic worked on the vehicle, there was no evidence of a problem with the steering shaft.shortly after the repair work, the steering shaft fractured at the pitman arm while driving 4 mph in a parking lot.the service dealer and manufacturer were notified.
I was returning from a short trip and the driver's side control arm broke while traveling down the road at approx. 35 mph.the frame, body and steering components are all riddled with rust.i have replaced numerous parts that had failed due to rust, including a fuel pump whose design trapped moisture and road salt on top of the fuel tank until fuel was leaking on the roadway.the rear bumper rusted off.toyota trucks of similar type and year have been recalled because of similar problems, but not the 1996 t100.toyota forums are filled with the same issue with this vehicle.i have owned this vehicle since it was brand new.toyota will not back this product.

Consumer statessteering linkages failed while backing out of the driveway. Dealer notified.
Consumer was pulling from a parking space and suddenly steering link bar snapped in half and came off, causing loss of steering. Dealer has been contacted.
(1) while backing out of a parking space, i heard a noise like a pop. I thought someone might have been walking behind me and thumped my truck to let me know they were there. Approximately two miles down the road my vehicle started to veer off the road.the steering wheel turned unusually freely, butthere was no change in the direction i was moving. I was moving across the opposite lane of the road, and heading for a hill, so i used my brakes to stop the vehicle. After stopping the vehicle i got outside and watched the front wheel on the driver's side, while i turned the steering wheel. Both front wheels were free of any connection to the steering wheel!(2) the cause of the loss of steering ability was a broken steering relay rod. It broke at a point close to the power steering box, in the same place that other steering relay rodson vehicles similar to mine have broken. The failure of the steering relay rod was due to defective design and manufacture of the part, as proven by the difference in rockwell harness from one side of the rod to the other,(rockwell hardness of 31 on one side, and 13 on the other side), at the break.the consequences were;a. The vehicle could no longer be driven, because it could not be steered and had to be towed to a repair shop.b. I was very frightened when i found i couldn't steer my vehicle, which was headed for a hill.c. I am worried that other drivers of vehicles equipped with this part may unexpectedly loose steering control of their vehicle, causing great bodily injury, including death.e. I have lost confidence with toyota, because the toyota customer assistance representative who took my report said that they had no history of problems with this part, yet three similar instanceshave been filed with nhtsa. (3) the steering relay rod was replaced with a new one (pn 45451-34010). The old part is available. I have digital pictures of the broken part, as well. Thiswas on a1996 toyota t100.
Steering rod cracked and showed evidence of a long term defect and old rust deposits.
Nar 1/15/2003. The front steering rod failed while driving at a low speed.the part showed evidence of a long term defect, there was a half moon crack with old rust deposits.
Clutch pedal bracket can crack, then break, causing failure of clutch pedal.steering bracket bent, dealer replaced bracket and installed new bolt.vehicle would not start at times due to a faulty starter assembly.
The trucks under carraige is nothing but rust scary rusty , also the body especialy fender wells rust growing, rear bumber rusted off the truck nearly completely gone. Frame so rusty getting scared to tow a trailer. Great running has been a good one. Just don't understand the bad rust problem, i know the the smaller toyota trucks were recalled and replaced or bought out, whos to say the frames on these toyota t100 will not break also causing wreck and possible injury.
The contact owns a 1996 toyota t100.the contact stated that there was rust on the frame of the vehicle that was causing the rear bumper to collapse. The dealer has not been contacted about the rust and the vehicle was not inspected for the failure nor repaired. The failure and the current mileages were unknown.
The contact owns a 1996 toyota t100. The contact stated while traveling 15 mph the vehicle hit a bump in the road and then a rubbing and clicking noise could be heard coming from the driver front wheel well. The vehicle then became difficult to steer. The contact merged to the side of the road. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that part of the frame was missing. The vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to a mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure and current mileage was 151,000. The vin was not available.

1996 toyota t100 with approx 77000 miles, rarely driven, garage kept and well cared for, cannot pass safety inspection due to unusual amount of rust on frame, control arms, underbody components, rear bumper. Am concerned if vehicle is in an accident, it will disintegrate and cause bodily injury or death to driver and passenger, or if structure fails while vehicle is in motion it can cause harm to other drivers/passengers. Toyota left this model out of the recall but these are the exact same issues reported with tacoma and tundra of same model year range. Truck would run forever if not for excessive rust. You can do better toyota, so do better.

I had my vehicle in for an exhaust rattle as well as an oil change today to my local independent mechanic.the mechanic, noting how rotted out the frame was in the rear as well as front, recommended that i not drive the vehicle any longer.the shop didn't do any service work due to the condition of the vehicle.knowing that toyota did a recall on a similar truck model of the same vintage, i took the truck to the nearby toyota dealer where i asked their service department to do an assessment of the vehicle.i thought toyota could then better understand what is happening with one of their products.the service manager was rather rude and said the warranty on the truck had expired after three years and that if i wanted an inspection, i would have to pay for it.i am shocked that what i had thought was a perfectly good usable vehicle has now become a safety hazard to myself and others on the road.i'm familiar with rusty vehicles having lived in wisconsin now for 47 years, but i have never seen this kind of thing before.i feel toyota should either replace the frame or buy out the vehicle from me.toyota advertises as to the percentage of their vehicles are still on the road with some kind of pride; perhaps they should acknowledge at the same time how many people are putting their lives at risk by driving those vehicles.as to the rotted frame, both main rails are rotted in the back.the front left tire suspension has rusted through.the rear transaxle has rusted near the rear right tire and is leaking fluid.brake lines have rusted through and are leaking.spark plug? that attaches to the exhaust pipe (reburn system?); both nuts holding this on have disintegrated and no longer holding thisdevice tight (this is the cause of the newly discovered exhaust rattle).
There is a housing crack onvehicle. Contacted dealer, anddealer is not willing to do anything about it.
I am a owner of a 1996 toyota t100 with serious rust issues on my truck. I have been looking online and found that otherowners have the same problems. There was a recall on other truck such as the tacoma. Why hasn't a recall been issued for the t100.
My 1996 toyota t100 fire wall under clutch assembly failed and crackedfrom fatigue. Distance of clutch travel was inadequate to disengage. Replaced clutch for no reason.
The contact owns 1996 toyota t100. The contact stated that the vehicle frame was severely corroded. As a result, hole developed in the fuel tank causing it to separate from the vehicle.the fuel tank was replaced; however the dealer advised that the vehicle cannot be repaired. The manufacture was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 131,288 and the current mileage was 136,426.
The rear step bumper welds broke loose while a boat was in tow.the bumper welds and hardware are rusted through.the bumper has a max tongue weight of 520 lbs. And max tow weight of 5200 lbs. The truck has not been wrecked from the rear.the property in tow was a 1988 stratos bass boat weighing less than 2000 lbs.
Front bumper inadequate weak material, dents very easily.
Weak rear bumper buckled while installing trailer hitch ball. *dh
The contact owns a 1996 toyota t100.while changing the oil, the contact noticed that the frame was rusting underneath the vehicle, as well as the rear spring shackles.the manufacturer was unable to assist.the contact feels that the vehicle will crack in half if it is not repaired.the current mileage was 183,000 and failure mileage was 170,000.
I own a 1996 toyota t100 4wd truck.the truck has 130k miles and runs excellent and has very little body rust. However, it will not pass inspection because of extensive frame corrosion and extreme corrosion to the lower control arms and cab mounts in the form of rust. There are numerous holes in the frame and lower control arms and the rust chips fall off in large chunks.
Sudden break in clutch support bracket. Caused vehicle to suddenly move without ability to control. The breakage of this bracket was caused by a design defect, and not by use or lack of maintainance. Dealer's service manager admitted that this bracket never should have broken. Have detailedphotos and the original broken part. The new part has been redesigned, but dealer says manufacturer has told them nothing about any ongoing problems.
I have a 1996 toyota t100 that i bought from a local toyota dealership wit 95,000 miles. Now at 135,000 miles , the frame is dangerously rusted. I took it to the dealership where i purchased it , and was told by the service manager to"prepare it for burial" this vehicle still runs fine, and i can't afford to buy another and simply junk this one there has been a recall and generous buyback on tacomas of the same years for the same problem, and i just found out they are doing the same on some later model tundras why has there been no similar action on t100s.
1996 toyota t100 with 96000 miles has severe frame rot. Right rear support for the cab has rusted through and the left rear support is almost rotted through and has a hole in the frame rail.
I am aware of a problem toyota had with the tacoma model years 1995 through 2000 with weak frames. My question is could the t100 be affected as well? i have a 1996 t100 which recently had a rear body mount disintegrate. As my mechanic was fixing the problem, he was grasping the frame and actually put a 3" to 4" hole in the frame with just his fingers. He had to weld a patch over the hole and commented that for only 12 years old, the frame looked terrible. He did not want to try any other parts of the frame for fear that he would cause more holes. I was wondering if this was happening to other owners of t100s in the same time frame as the tacoma recall. Could this frame fail while driving causing a potential accident?
The contact owns a 1996 toyota t100. The contact stated that the vehicle was being service for a routine oil change when the contact was advised by the technician that the cab mount and axle were severely rusted. The technician advised that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for repairs. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.updated 02/07/11 updated 12/05/2011 *ln
Excessive rust on frame and bumper, mechanic has warned me that frame is headed for failure.
Frame is completely rusted and cannot get the vehicle inspected. A-arms are rusted through with many holes. Rear frame is rusted next to gas tank causing unsafe driving conditions. I understand this is a common problem with all t100 trucks and although tacomas and tundras have been recalled there are not plans to do the same with the t100.
The whole under carriage of the truck is rusted and has been for a number of years. It started in 2003.its really bad now, i found out that i could make a complaint here i didn't know that i could before.i know there wasn't a recall on the t100.
The contact 1996 toyota t-100. The contact stated that after spraying his vehicle he noticed that the frame was severely covered with rust and a hole was in it. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor was it repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure and current mileage was approximately 92,856. Rims collect water and freeze on wheel causing wheels to be out of balance.this makes the vehicle vibrate excesivly beginning at about 35 mph.i have contacted toyota many times over the past 3 years without any satisfaction.in fact, they have not even acknowledged my complaint!i have even demonstrated this problem to valley toyota and they have acknowledged that the problem exists.they have contacted the field rep.--kelly deeds--who refused to do anything about it.i would apreciate any help or suggestions you might give me in rectifying this problem.i believe this is truely a safety hazzard on ice or compacted snow which exists in northern minnesota about 6 months of the year.thank you for any help you can give.
When it rains or snows and the snow melts, ice will build up around the vehicle's rims and cover the wheels, and water will get into the wheels and freeze around the wheel rims.
