I was driving my toyota motorhome when all of the sudden i heard a wobble sound. I though i needed a tire alignment, as my front tire was slightly balding, so i proceeded to the tire shop which was only 15 minutes away. Very shortly thereafter, going approximately 40 mph i lost control of my car, it literally felt like it was falling apart on me on the highway! parts were flying everywhere as i came to a sudden stop on the shoulder of the road. What had happened, is my back axle snapped in half and half of it, with my 2 double tires on that end, flew into the air and landed onto oncoming traffic on the other side of the highway! next thing i knew, as i stopped, i saw on the opposite side of the highway one guy was thrown off of his motorcycle laying on the shoulder, his motorcycle was totaled and 2 cars rear ended each other. Luckily, no one was killed!!! and the guy who had the motorcycle walked away with a sore knee. After doing research there has been a major recall on axles of toyota motorhomes made before 1987, please everyone be safe and be sure to install an upgraded 6 lug free floating rear differential axle into your rv before something disastrous happens!apparently the business who was making these motorhomes (four seasons?) is not in business anymore... I would really like reimbursement to pay for these repairs! who can i contact? my axle was literally burning up when it broke just like the descriptions describe in the recall articles. These are deadly without this pertinent information be safe!
