The contact owns a 2015 toyota sienna. While at a stop light, another vehicle crashed into the rear of the contact's vehicle. The incident caused the contact to crash into the preceding vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact, the front seat passenger, and the rear seat passenger sustained unknown injuries that required medical attention. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,000.
I was traveling west on rt 202 (butler blvd) in jacksonville, fl. My speed was 65mph and i was in the middle lane. I was driving and my son, christopher, who is disabled was sitting in the middle row center in his wheelchair which was anchored to the floor by four tie-downs. A car trying to pass us in the outside left lane hit my vehicle in the drivers side rear and caused us to spin in the roadway. After we came out of the spin we hit the concrete barrier dividing the roadway. My vehicle was totaled with extensive damage to front and frame. My son and i were slightly injured but not treated on the scene. My airbags did not deploy? not the ones in the front or the side airbags did not deploy? this is a conversion accessible vehicle that has been altered from the original. I have re-purchased the same type of vehicle and i want to be sure that the airbags are working? toyota has already pulled the "black box" and started their investigation. I just want to be sure that i get the "true" cause of why the airbags did not deploy?
The contact owns a 2015 toyota sienna. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v858000 (air bags); however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
The airbag on/off indicator stays off even when an adult is sitting on the passenger seat.the issue is not there in my 2014 toyota camry. The dealer koons toyota verified that sensor is registering correct weight. The dealer states that toyota does not tell them that at what weight the airbag should turn on. The dealer's test weight of 66lb "on the seat" did not turn it on. The dealer test report is attached.thanks
My vehicle was recently stolen. It was recovered as a crashed abandoned vehicle by the glen ridge police department (case #19-20437).the vehicle suffered an apparent major frontal collision but the airbags failed to deploy (see images).i am reporting this failure for your investigative reference.i have no further details as it was not in my possession when the collision took place.
I had a front damaged car accident in 2016.i realized that none of airbags were deployed since i was asked by at fault driver's insurance attorney.i was driving on a local one way road and a car showed up in front of me all of a sudden.it was crossing in front of me as ignoring "stop" sign on his side.it was too close to avoid and brake was not helpful.
I was hit hard directly on side and side airbags didn't deploy. My vehicle was totaled. My vehicle was moving maybe 5 miles per hour and i was turning left.
Nonstop flickering of cruise control illumination at night. Flickering is independent of speed, steering wheel position. Very distracting while driving.
Navigation system and screen is been off and restarted while driving since one year ago.some rainy day that happened 4~5 times in hour.getting worse!!
I stopped at a gas station and was parked with the car on, and i reached under my front passenger seat (manual seat) and received a 20 amp shock from one of the wires under the seat.resulting in my dislocating my shoulder from the muscle spasms.taking it into dealership tomorrow morning but after talking with them they dont have any idea what could have caused it.
2015 toyota sienna. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle fire.*as
While traveling, our 2015 awd toyota sienna with 8k miles caught fire and was a total loss. The vehicle was traveling 45 mph on rt 102 north in southwest harbor, me by the echo lake national park entrance, when we noticed white/brown smoke in the rear view mirror. We had only been on the road for about 5 minutes. We pulled over and turned the car off. When the car came to a stop, black smoke came into the cabin and everyone evacuated. During the evacuation, we noticed flames coming from the front engine compartment as well as the underside of the vehicle. By the time the southwest harbor police and fire reached us, the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames. The vehicle had been driving well the entire trip. The vehicle had been serviced once at 5k miles. It is unknown exactly what caused the fire.we've filed an insurance claim with arbella insurance. The claim number is 033734081. Also the national park service ranger [xxx]filed a report [xxx] about the incident.video of fire taken by southwest harbor fire depthttps://www.facebook.com/161511330824/videos/10153605854980825/information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
2015 toyota sienna mini van bought new. Still covered by 36 month warranty with 30,000 miles. Power sliding doors under recall. Observed significant rust on metal plate bolted on door hinge coveringelectrical wires. If metal cover rusts thru, could lead to short and electrical door motor failure. Toyota refuses to replace metal cover plate. I feel toyota should honor warranty and replaced rusted parts.
The contact owns a 2015 toyota sienna. The contact stated that the vehicle had no power sliding door functionality and needed to be manually operated, as suggested by the manufacturer. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v858000(structure); however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 13,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.
Their is a recall on the automatic sliding doors but toyota has failed to correct the issue. Theback doors unlatch automatically and have propelled open twice while i was driving my children!! i brought it into service and they told me they disabled the electronic opening function and i would have to open and close the doors manually until toyota has permanent solution. It turns out they only pressed the power switch on my dash board and the doors continue to unlatch automatically. I will manually close the door and once driving i hear them trying to open. I've had to pull over and manually shut them tight but last night it flew open while i was driving without any warning that it had unlatched!! i'm paying $420.00 a month in a lease contract for a car that is unsafe. Toyota has failed to remedy the problem and dealers refuse to help me get out of this vehicle despite the fact that it is dangerous!

Van would reboot while parked or driving. It started with dashboard rebooting then i couldn't start the van. There was a time after driving i put the van in park and turned it off but my van was moving on it's own. I always call the dealership when the rebooting occurs. I was told either it was a software issue or since the problem went away, i should be fine. Well recently when my van stalled and had to be towed to the dealership. I was told it was a battery issue and the battery was replaced. When i picked up my van and went home, noticed my rear view camera would not come on went i put the van in reverse. Called the dealership to tell them what's going on and the service advisor woman was very rude and stated it was battery and they never checked anything else. I stated to the woman the i've always expressed my concerns about the van rebooting, won't start, or moving on it's own. The woman became very rude and hung up on me. I decided to go right back to the dealership on the way there i called back to speak to the manager of service department to explain what's going on. While driving there the check engine and another light turned on. Shortly after that as i was turning left, while in the middle of the intersection my van stalled. The steering wheel and brakes locked and the van completely shuts off. I was locked in my van with no control over the van and it was moving towards a pole. Luckily the van stopped before hitting anyone or anything. I was on the phone with the service manager the entire time. The manager called for someone to pick me up and calleda tow company. I asked the manger if they are stating my issue was a battery and a new battery was installed why am i still having the same issue. The police was call because someone reported my van in the middle of the intersection.
Sliding doors are pone when car is un montn, this problem will cause a fatal accidents, the water pump has a defects.
Cable to open automatic door broke was told this is not covered in the latch system recall. Vehicle was stationary at time of cable break. Also back up camera doesn't work properly and touch screen raido/back up camera continue to reset itself when driving
Side doors not open and closesometimes when use touch buttons
Passenger side power sliding door constantly malfunctioning. It opened after a bump while traveling 65 mph on the interstate. We had to pull over to close the door. It also deployed the wheelchair ramp while moving because the power door isthe same side as the ramp.. Make the manufacturer fix it or make the wheelchair conversion company fix it. Somebody needs to fix this before somebody dies! all this red tape and zero action is insane. People are getting injured while the finger pointing is happening. When will something be done? how many injuries have to occur before an action step occurs?
My 11-year old son got out of the front passenger side of our staitionary minivan (in park but running), for me to drop him off for a cello lesson. He opened the rear passenger side sliding door to get his cello out. It wasnt opening easily, so i almost simultaneously pushed the button above me on the console. At that point the door started to close on him. It did not stop closing and was pressing him into the door frame. I didn't realize what was happening, and he was too shocked to scream. He was trying to stop it from closing on him, but it kept closing. I expected that the door would automatically sense a blockage, stop and open back. He was only ok because he was strong enough to press back, but his hip was very bruised. I finally realized that the door wasn't opening, and pressed the button again above me and the door stopped. It stripped the wires in the door, and the automatic door is now broken.the electrical or sensing system in this door is faulty.
Driving 35-55 mph and going around (usually) a left curve on the highway or interstate, van suddenly brakes, swerves, and traction control/vehicle stability control light pops on. Whole episode lasts a second or two, then its fine. It wont happen again for the duration of the trip. I only drive the van on weekends, and it has happened three times in the past two weeks. It has nearly caused a serious accident.
The cruise-control stalk light has started to flicker at night. It's very distracting and hard to not keep looking down at it while driving.
I have a 2015 toyota sienna xle with 35,800 miles.- (no specific conditions or driving styles) it is on it's third transmission (second replacement was at 29,800 miles)- newest recall on the side doors opening randomly.- (no specific conditions or driving styles. Happens completely randomly) cruise control lever light flickering. It was replaced three times now. It was just replaced the third time recently, so i'll see if it happens again.- (no specific conditions or driving styles. Happens completely randomly) dash randomly freezes for about 5 minutes and then resets to the default settings (it has happened seven times and continuing) and toyota still cannot figure out the problem.- (while driving on a clear day on a city street) climate control shut off completely by itself without touching any buttons while driving. I was able to turn it back on, but it should not shut off without any action.- bad support bearing for axle on front passenger side (22,900 miles)
We ordered power rear seat that would by pushing a button. We had them the two past sienna we had purchased 2010 & 2013. They we not on the sienna and we were told by dealer that they could not be on this sienna.
At various times, the sliding doors will not close when the power button is on.i have received a card to get this fixed as sensors need to be replaced.the vehicle is stationary in a parking space.it is happening more often now.
Steering wheel becomes difficult to turn making it hard to steer - almost have to "force" it to turn.hard to duplicate - seems intermittent - instrument panel goes dim, almost dark. Random also
Navigation system / screen restarts intermittently while driving under normal operating conditions.no buttons on steering wheel or on navigation system are operational during this period.
The contact owns a 2015 toyota sienna. While the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that the power sliding door was opened. The contact stated that the door had to be closed manually. The contact was unable to use the automatic closing door system. The contact mentioned that the issue occurred on several occasions. When the vehicle was taken for routine service, the technician informed the contact of a recall. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v858000 (structure). The part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 19,000. Updated 05/10/17*lj*as
The dash was randomly freezing for about 5 minutes and then reset itself while driving. Once it reset itself, it went back to the default settings. It was at heart city toyota multiple times for this problem. Each time they said that they could not get it to duplicate the problem. After dropping it off in april of 2017, the technician stated that he was able to duplicate the problem of the dash resetting. He did a software update and a hard-reset in order to try fixing it. Low and behold, two days later it happened again. After having it at heart city toyota to have the problem with the cruise control light flickering, for the fifth time, fixed, i reported about the dash still having the problem of resetting itself. The manager of heart city toyota told me at that point that i am not welcome back to their dealership. After contacting toyota corporate about this, i was told that they are able to refuse service even with the warranty still present. They explained that i needed to take it to another toyota dealership to have it diagnosed. So i contacted jordan toyota and explained the situation. The service manager there informed me that if heart city toyota was not able to diagnose the problem, then they were not going to start from scratch to diagnose the problem themselves. Three weeks later, while driving on a county road, the dash began to smoke and i pulled off of the road. When it began to smoke even more, i exited the vehicle and as i was getting as far away as i could i seen flames. I called 9-1-1 right away. By the time the fire department was able to get there and extinguish the fire, the van was destroyed. Which ended up being a total loss. All of which seemed to be due to an electrical fire in the dash. Luckily no one was hurt.
Nonstop flickering of cruise control illumination at night.flickering is independent of speed, steering wheel position.very distracting while driving.dealer says no fix available.toyota corp notified - case opened.. No fix available.buyer beware.
The contact owns a 2015 toyota sienna. The contact stated that while driving a 35 mph, an unknown light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the door latch was in an unlatched position however, the part for the repair was unavailable. The vehicle was included in a manufacturers recall related to the door latch that was currently preparing the remedy for the condition. The contact stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000.
The speedometer & tachometer on the model has a dark background with small numbers and doesn't illuminate in the auto position. If the sun is bright with glare off other vehicles and you have to wear sun glasses they illuminate but the are either difficult to see or impossible. This is a safety concern, in my opinion, while you vehicle is in motion.
There was no accident or incident. I'm trying to avoid a potential accident by being forced to see the gauges that are essentially invisible while driving. The standard tachometer and speedometer gauges in this car have dark faces. When driving on a sunny day with sunglasses on, they are almost impossible to see. This is a definite safety issue as one has to look very closely and longer than normal to be able to see one's speed. The optional se model has these instruments with white faces and would be much easier to see in bright conditions. I feel toyota should retro-fit properly designed gauges to avoid accidents that may occur because the driver was distracted by trying to see the dark gauges!

The contact owns a 2015 toyota sienna. The contact stated that the door ajar chime was not functional. The vehicle was taken to dch toyota where it was diagnosed that the failure was inherent to the vehicle model. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The contact explained that the sienna vehicle's owners manual indicated that the warning indicator was supposed to activate when the vehicle's door was opened and shifted out of park. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was approximately 6,800.
The contact owns a 2015 toyota sienna. While driving up a hill, smoke entered the vehicle and flames appeared under the hood. The contact was able to exit the vehicle. The fire extinguished on its own, but the vehicle was damaged extensively. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop and a collision center to repair the damages. The manufacturer towed the vehicle to a dealer. The cause of the failure was not determined. The vin and failure mileage were not available.updated 03/15/17*lj
Our daughter-in-law received an interim recall notice from toyota yesterday.(safety recall g04).apparently there is a possibility that the sliding door on the siena can come open while the van is in motion endangering the occupants.in this case, the occupants are our four year grandson, who has down syndrome, and three year old granddaughter.toyota has declined to disclose whether there have been any accidents, injuries or deaths due to this defect.they are working on a fix but do not have a solution.toyota's recommendation is to disengage the electronic doors.we viewed that additional cost option as a safety and convenience factor for our daughter-in-law.surely, a company with the resources of toyota could come up with a fix concurrently with this notice! minivans are generally driven by families with children.
There are multiple issues with this vehicle that cause/have caused safety concerns. During night time driving, the illuminated cruise control stalk will blink on and off intermittently. This has caused the driver to almost rear-end multiple cars as the flickering light takes the driver's eyes from the road. It was found that there is an intermittent high resistance connection with up to a 9 volt drop at times. Despite the steering column being switched out and the problem being fixed temporarily, the problem returns. There is something in this vehicle causing the wiring in the steering column to short out. Not only is the flickering light very distracting causing a safety issue with a possible vehicular accident, but the chance of the faulty wiring causing a fire is also a safety issue. Another issue that has been found with this vehicle involves the engine. While sitting at a stop light, the vehicle's rpm all of a sudden revved up and the entire engine began shaking. If the driver had not had their foot on the brake at the time this happened, this could have caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, posing a safety issue.
When i get into the sienna in a parking spot (stationery) and twist the key in the ignition the vehicle startsbut the electronic steering does not work.this happens intermittantly. I have to sit there and let the vehicle run for awhile before the steering kicks in.the steeringwheel is basically locked and difficult to turn.my greatest fear is that the steering wheel will lock up on me while i am driving and will not be able to steer.
The contact called on behalf of the owner of a 2015 toyota sienna. Upon starting the vehicle, the traction indicator illuminated and an abnormal noise was heard coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the plaza toyota dealer (2721 nostrand ave, brooklyn, ny 11210, 347-983-5652) where it was diagnosed with an unknown wiring failure due to rodents entering the engine compartment. The vehicle owner had the vehicle repaired, but was unaware of the repair specifics. The failure recurred three months later and the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiring was destroyed again by rodents. The vehicle was not repaired again. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and referred the contact back to the dealer. The failure mileage was 16,382.
While driving in the mountains and curving right, the stability control activated the brakes.the car was not speeding and the roads were dry.it happened 3 times in one trip.the braking action made it difficult to complete the turn.plus the decrease in speed was a danger to the occupants plus the car behind us.other curves did not activate the stability controlso it was a guess as to when and if this would happen.did make it back safely.
The vehicle was stationary and one day abs malfunction light came on due to faulty harness on a 3 year old 35,000 mile vehicle. This reduces the ability of the vehicle to stop normally as it should this also disables the traction control on the vehicle. I was driving in rain without any traction control and it was scary. I contacted toyota and they keep stating the car is out of warranty. It is $500+ repair to abs system due to their faulty parts. I just need this to be on the record incase something happens while driving a toyota sienna.
I have a brand new toyota sienna and the tires seem to start showing sign of wearing off in 6 months, as if it has alignment issues or something.the car does not pull to one side or anything.the dealership told me that it could be the tire pressure that needs to be kept up and they said that the tire pressure indicator is not good enough to make sure if the pressure is good?also they told me that the tires these days are softer so they don't last as long?this all seems a little hard for me to believe. Oem tire warranty up to 60k but not last long . Just change new sets of tire with alignment . Toyota engineering needs to address this issue
2015 tsinitial experience was abs system and traction control malfunction experienced twice. This was a scary experience driving on the highway with error signal on the dashboard.

When pulling into a parking space, the care reved and lunged forward, approximately 5 feet while the foot was on the brake.happened twice, when turning right into parking space.called dealer about incident and then took van into dealer next day.they contact toyota (case #152470163).toyota informed dealer that this was not that uncommon with sienna vans.if someone had been in front of the vehicle at the time of the first incident they would have been injured.if i had been parking in my garage i would have damaged the house.toyota indicate there was not a repair and that one was not needed and told dealer to release the vehicle to customer (quote).the dealer thought it was the computer and that it reved the motor automatically due to using ac. We do not understand why a computer can not be programmed to make sure this does not happen- we no longer feel safe in the vehicle.

The failure mileage was 12,000. The vin was not available.
When the car is at idle speed, such as waiting for traffic to clear for a left turn, the car will just die without warning. It will usually restart right away, but this has nearly caused a collision. The dealership in bellevue, wa says that's a normal thing if the car isn't properly maintained. I have brought the car to that dealership for all but one of the maintenance intervals, and the only other time was for maintenance when we were in ohio. Having the throttle body cleaned is not on the routine maintenance schedule. When the car does die there are no codes or other symbols that come up on the display, other than to say that the car died.

My sienna van sometimes responds very late to acceleration. This becomes a problem on highways specifically during the merging. Acceleration paddle has to be pressed very hard, for first few seconds there is no response from engine then latter it suddenly accelerates. This makes you miss judge the time required to merge on highways and can cause accidents. This has been happening since few months. I am providing tentative date below.

The dashboard speedometer and tachometer gauges cannot be illuminated without turning on parking or headlights.these gauges cannot be seen during the day when the dashboard is shadowed.issue has been reported on sienna chat boards and numerous toyota service departments.
The cruise-control stalk lightflickers at night causing distraction
The speedometer & tachometer on the model has a dark background with small numbers and doesn't illuminate in the auto position. If the sun is bright with glare off other vehicles and you have to wear sun glasses they illuminate but the are either difficult to see or impossible. This is a safety concern, in my opinion, while you vehicle is in motion.
The cruise control backlighting on the"control stalk" blinks/flashes erratically in the driver's peripheral vision.this is quite dangerous and distracting.this happens at all speeds and driving conditions but seems to be worse when having to turn the steering wheel more (i.e. A parking lot vs. Changing lanes on the highway).
In daylight, when headlights are off or automatic, the speedometer does not illuminate. With headlights on, illumination is very faint at its maximum setting. The display is so dark that it cannot be reliably read. With sunglasses, it is impossible to read the speedometer. Note, this is an analog speedometer, and this model does not have an additional digital speed display. An internet search indicates that this problem is universal for this model/year (not a defect in my vehicle). It creates a hazard because one cannot easily determine speed. (at night there is no problem, since the dashboard lighting is sufficient in those conditions.)
2015 toyota sienna limited defective brake system design.the consumer stated toyota has done nothing to fix the inaudible turn indicator. The consumerstated the issue was whether or not the braking system could support towing an additional 3500 pound load as advertised. Based on his experience of having warped front rotors that required replacement at 19,242 miles, there was a serious front and rear brake design flaw.updated 04/14/2017
Fuel tank access door hinge is broken.can't fill gas tank up.if fuel door is removed sliding door won't open.fuel door hinge broke because the fuel door pin has so much tension that it broke the hinge. This caused a safety issue because the door cannot be opened from the inside if it is not closed all they way or pushed closed enough for the sensor to allow the sliding door to open. This event was reported past the 36 month warranty, (at 40 months, but less than the mileage warranty), but had begun before the warranty had ended. Current owners should be aware that if there are instances beginning of the door not being able to be opened, should check the hinge and pin tension and have it fixed while it could be under warranty. This should be an item covered under an extended warranty due to the safety issue of not being able to exit the vehicle in an emergency situation. This happened several times while parked and exiting the vehicle. There are other instances of this issue on different sienna and toyota forums. Toyota service manager confirms that it is excessive, but only resolution would be to replace cable with no guarantee it wouldn't have excessive force also. Only other resolution would be to have service bulletin issued by toyota.your tracking number assigned by nhtsa for this issue is 11025478. The fuel pump intermittently fails.sometimes it won't start at all, sometimes it starts but the engine stumbles before it shuts off, and sometimes the engine will just shut off while accellerating on the road.toyota has diagnosed it as a bad fuel pump and are in the process of replacing it at my cost.
Fuel door latch hinge is broken at the top of the hinge.possibly, it caused by the door latch safety with excessive tension. It disabled the driver side sliding door.driver's side sliding door could not be opened and it caused exiting issue for children and occupants in the car. Car's mileage is at 27,000 miles.fuel door opened during in motion and/or stationary.
Fuel line leak above gas tank. Leak caused by friction between pressurized fuel line and car frame.

The contact owns a 2015 toyota sienna. The contact stated that the vehicle was not driving normally and it felt as if the transmission were failing. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed due to a minor crash in which the contact was involved. The transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 7,000. The vin was not available.
The contact owns a 2015 toyota sienna. After the contact placed the gear in park, she could not shift out of the park position. The contact shut off the vehicle and it would not restart. In addition, the brake override malfunction indicator illuminated and "visit your dealer" appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle was towed to poway toyota (13631 poway rd, poway, ca 92064, (858) 486-2900) to be diagnosed, but the results were pending. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,043.
I have a 2015 toyota sienna le that i purchased new from the dealer. The original michelintires had excessive wear after less than 2yrs and ~28k miles.i replaced these with continental tires(rated for 70k miles) and after 2years and at ~63k on the vehicle miles i had to replace those with general altimax (rated for 75k miles).each time tires were replaced it received and alignment. I now need to replace the third set of tires at ~88k for set number four.additionally i had to replace the rank and pinion (complete unit), both tie rods and both suspension control arms and ball joint assembly and a wheel alignment.can is adult driven mostly in town but has one long road trip on it (6k miles).this will be the fourth set of tires on a vehicle with less than 100k miles along with 5-6 alignments.all tires have been maintained and rotated. This has to be a vehicle defect as i have multiple tire manufactures, all rated for more than double the tire life i'm getting. I have $2000 in tires so far (not counting the originals) $1250 in replacing the front end components noted and now have to spend another $1k on tires.
When ambient temp is below freezing and vehicle is cold the engine revs up from below 1000 rpm to nearly 1500 rpmwhen coming to a stop and the vehicle wants to lurch forward.i must be on the brake to prevent lurching forward. It revs up as the transmission is downshifting. Dealer says it is normal.this is nonsense.
2nd row seat belts bind and generally do not retract, even when seat is occupied.they remain loose and flop around and do not "snug up" against the occupant as every other seat belt does.dealer says "all the sienna's do that" because it's such a long belt - in fact he replaced the belt and the replacement does the same thing.this seems like a safety hazard since in the case of a wreck i worry that the seat belt may not retract correctly to restrain the occupant, or even if it retracts it may not be positioned correctly.mostly the 2nd row belts are very loose and flop around unless an adult makes a conscious effort to slowly and very carefully feed the back into the reel.
Seat belt will not retract. No accident/collission. It seems the seat belt is defected and dealer refuses to correct, stating seat belt is out of warranty.my child pulled the seat belt to put it on and it just simply did not retract.
3 issue with 5tdkk3dc2fs[xxx] toyota sienna 2015 le van*1 - seat belt - 2nd row driver side seat belt cannot be wear.cannot wear seat belt as the red part that fastens the seat belt clip does not work.unable to fasten seat belt in the 2nd row seat behind driver.2* at 30,000 miles with proper careful driving brake lights turn on in rain - all the lights start to flash in dashboard.*3- front driver side bumber where it meets the fender does not hold bumper properly.the clips that hold bumper are not made properly.i have seen at least 4 toyota sienna with same issues at different places of same model / design.when push back to fix the number it stays and after short 5-10 miles drive it comes back loose again.so i have to keep pushing the bumper back.i have the van for over a year now.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The rear most driver side seat belt was severely damaged by a steel bracket that holds the center seat/ middle seat on the 8 passenger model. This bracket is located behind the plastic covers. The steel bracket is razor sharp. The seat belt was severely cut. We can send pictures. The seat belt has been replaced by us. But other owners need to be made aware of this design flaw. Thanks.
Shoulder straps of passenger mid-section seats have losttension and do not reliably retract, possibly due to extended car seat installation (britax pinnacle clicktight, was installed for prolonged period in harness mode).lack of shoulder strap tension is a severe hazard as i attempted to convert britax pinnacle clicktight to booster mode but found thatchild could loosen their shoulder strap and be sitting in booster mode seat with a loose shoulder strap that is not holding them tight and secure at the shoulder.
Seat gets stuck to base and does not come out. I had to forcefully take my 1 month old out of the seat and in cold hold him in hand to take to dr office. It can be frightening if there is accident, and child needs to be taken out
The contact owns a 2015 toyota sienna. The contact stated that the middle row seat behind the driver side shifted inadvertently. The dealer diagnosed that the seats needed a bracket to keep them from shifting. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 15,000.
We bought our 2015 toyota sienna le all-wheel drive in february 2015.at 16,000 miles, we took it in for maintenance because it was shaking during braking.we were informed that the rotors were warped and needing replaced.they were replaced.at 22,000 miles, the wheel inflation signal keeps coming on every other day after refilling air into all tires; we inspected the tires and found that the two rear tires were very worn on the inner side of the tires.we took it to sheehy toyota of fredericksburg again for maintenance.we were told that it needed alignment and 4 new tires.we were also told that the tires would not be covered because factory tires from dealerships were not covered under warranty.but the main concern is that, at just 22,000, there's already rotor issues and alignment issues from just normal driving.never drove in gravel or rough roads.i believe there's an issue with the 2015 sienna line of vans, regards to brake rotors and alignment problems.it's a big saftey concern for me and my family.and it's disappointing to hear that toyota will not cover alignment issues, though the vehicle is still so new.it could have been tragic if we didn't catch the worn tires this soon.for the record, we had never missed an oil change or scheduled routine maintenance.
Vehicle was in reverse backing out of an inclined driveway into a culdasac. The brakes would not engage to stop the car. The dealership towed the car and examined it. They said their were 8 codes that were showing. The dealership spent a day examining the car. They told us they found nothing wrong. They gave us no paperwork detailing what the codes were or what they had done to check the car. They said the car was safe to drive.
Sliding doors are pone when car is un montn, this problem will cause a fatal accidents, the water pump has a defects.
When braking at speed exiting highway, brakes began vibrating.the siena has 19,300 miles on it.i took it to the dealer and was told the front rotors were warped.the car has not been subjected to extreme driving conditions and a warped rotors may not have been noticed by others.but the rotor after warping would invariably lead to cracked rotor or brake failure at some point and pose a hazard, possibly catastrophic failure and damage or injury.luckily, i caught it before something serious happened.i think toyota should look into premature failures.
Vibration when applying the brake. Toyota issued a tsb: t-sb-0045-14. This should be a recall. It is unsafe.
While driving on the nys thruway with the cruise control activated my van came to an abrupt stop on the thruway.there were no vehicles in close proximity to my van that would have activated the radar cruise or the autonomous emergency braking system.after the abrupt stop all the lights on the dash were lit up ie: brake, abs, pcs, slip indicator light, and master warning light. When i reached my destination i was unable to open the doors of my vehicle.someone tried to open the doors from the outside of the vehicle and they were unable to open them as well. I brought it to the local toyota dealer and they could find nothing wrong.the above lights have lit up on several occasions however the dealer could find nothing wrong.there has been a previous complaint for the same behavior on 6/6/15 reported to toyota for the same make and model as mine a toyota sienna premium and they have not been able to get toyota to act on it.
The contact owns a 2015 toyota sienna. While driving at an unknown speed and making a left turn, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to respond as it traveled to the floorboard. As a result, another vehicle crashed into the front passenger corner panel of the contact's vehicle. The contact and a passenger in the other vehicle sustained unknown injuries that required medical attention. The air bags deployed. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 32,774. The vin was not available.
Brought vehicle into dealer for routine service and maintenance.service technicians informed me that the brake rotors were "severely scorched" and "warped," and recommended immediate replacement of all pads and rotors.technician asked if i tow a trailer or routinely haul heavy items, neither of which i have ever done; technician then asked if i ride my brakes when i drive, which i do not.vehicle has 29k miles and is used only for city driving for just my wife and i (and occasionally my son's family, which consists of two adults and two children), but i have never driven this vehicle in an abnormal fashion.i didn't notice anything out of the ordinary while i drove it, so i consider myself lucky the technicians caught the damage before the brakes failed.this is the forth van i have owned but my first toyota, and i've never had a brake issues with any of my previous vehicles--not even the van that i drove back and forth to work 50+ miles a day and cross-country three times, racking up well over 100k miles.
Brake shaking/shutter upon braking down a steep hill. The 2015 sienna awd has 45,000 miles.the sienna has mostly been driven on flat to mild sloped interstate roads that do not require braking. Recent inspection by a tire shop reports 12/32 remaining on brake pads showing minimal to no wear.upon driving down a steep road requiring braking to control speed there was violent shaking/shutter in the front end. Thinking something was broken, reduced the speed and used transmission to control speed to reduce brake application.this relieved the violent shaking.checking internet there is a toyota tsb for this problem replacing brake pads and additional work.the problem has to be reported to toyota within the 36,000 mile warranty to have the problem fixed by toyota.this problem needs to be fixed by a safety recall when oem remain on the vehicle.
Steering wheel becomes difficult to turn making it hard to steer - almost have to "force" it to turn.hard to duplicate - seems intermittent - instrument panel goes dim, almost dark. Random also
The contact owns a 2015 toyota sienna. While driving, the steering wheel made a beeping noise and became difficult to turn. The contact stated that the beeping noise grew louder. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to palm beach toyota (200 s congress ave, west palm beach, fl 33406, (561) 701-9306), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was later taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the power steering failed and advised the contact to take the vehicle to a toyota dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.
Wheelchair van conversion gone wrong. I have it documented. The state of ohio spent $109 thousand i spent $40 thousand. The van is not safe to drive. I have documents from the toyota dealer thatthe steering turn more left than turns to the right. I have more documents.*ln
2015 toyota sienna xle 44,802 miles. Hear clunk noise when turning the steering wheel during low speed or stationary. Took it to the dealer and they found excessive clearance between intermediate shaft and rack and pinion mating teeth causing the noise. They recommend to replace the intermediate shaft and quote me almost $800 for it for parts and labor. I declined.i am surprised this is happen to toyota, the reason i bought toyota is because its reliability. If i know things going to break just after the warranty is over, i won't buy toyota. There are other brands cheaper brand that do that. After i talk to my mechanic, he said this problem happens a lot, even the oem replacement part won't last long 40-50k miles. For me it seems like a design issue or just a cheaply made part.
I have a 2015 toyota sienna se.i am currently at 49092 miles and am purchasing my third set of tires.the tire wear on this vehicle is abnormally high.i have purchased high quality tires (bridgestone 80k warranty, and michelin 60k).first set of factory issued tires were worn down to 3/32-4/32 in 24000 miles, second set was used to 4/32 in 25000 miles. Vehicle is driven under normal conditions, both highway and city driving.this is a significant safety issue to me in regards to handing, steering and stopping and it feel it may be attributed to the design of the vehicle itself to include the suspension components, frame setup, and weight of vehicle.

Back power door on passenger side opened while driving on palatine road express.i was transporting a bicycle in the back seat and inside panel was damaged when door opened and we were trying to manually close the door.i contacted toyota about the incident and they inspected the vehicle and refused to acknowledge their liability.
Driver side mirror paint was melted in normal usage conditions in san diego california. Dealer blames "surrounding buildings in where i parked" or "buses and rv's with large windows that may have been driving along me on freeway" and reflection of sunshine. This is nonsense. The painted mirror, supposedly an upgrade, has a manufacturing defect as its plastic storage frame is painted with the same type of paint use to paint the metal on the rest of the body of the car. If dealer's "diagnosis" is correct then possibility of a fire both in parking position or whilt driving on freeway exists.

The sliding doors on both sides are not closing with the closer buttons.it goes so far and then opens back up.you have to hold onto the door and force it to continue to close.even when stationary with the van in park the doors have come open without anyone near them. I am worried they will open while i am driving.this has happened multiple times the most recent was today.
Recall issued for power side doors opening on their own while driving. Was corrected, but is happening again. Dealer informed us that we would have to pay to get the opening corrected. Is toyota or the consumer responsible for payment for the second, third or fourth repair?

Sliding door recall paper advised to turn off the automatic door feature.i have done so.when closing side sliding door, it does not latch properly.three times i have had the door slide open when pulling out of a parking space, because the door failed to latch properly.contacted toyota corporate, and they did nothing to resolve the issue.they do not have an eta on when the automatic doors will be fixed.this poses a huge safety risk for my 2 children.i'm worried that the doors may open when driving down the road or highway.i have asked corporate if they would be willing to help facilitate getting me out of the sienna and into a different vehicle, by providing some financial assistance.i did not ask for a "buy back".i simply asked if they would be willing to give me $2-$3k assistance as a gesture of good faith to ensure that my kids could remain safe.they declined.even after learning of the door issues that i have specifically had, they did not seem to care .... At all ..... That they doors are opening unprompted and they did not offer to look at the doors and try to fix them, either.all they seem to care about is their financial bottom line, and not the safety of the passengers in the vehicle that they sold me.

Power door malfunction. The right back passenger door at times would randomly close on its own and other times the door beeps, but does not close. It has happened at least 5 times in the past 6 months. It happened again today, 7/3/17.

My sliding doors open whenever and sometimes do not close all the way. When the sliding door is between 6 and 8 inches to close it will stop and open all the way. I have been to byers toyota 4 maybe 5 separate times with this problem. Byers says that the doors have been fixed numerous times. It still does what byers said they have fixed it. Phone number for byers 614-923-1101 asked for tara in service. My number is [xxxx]. Toyota recall 16v858 from november 2016 for sliding door in toyota sienna.parts are still unavailable to repair this defect which could be very dangerous.at least that's what ventura toyota is telling us.can you put pressure on toyota to provide repairs to fix the defect with the sliding doors? today is june 9, 2017, over 6 months later.
Toyota stated in their recall that there would be resolution before january, it is now june and still no resolution on passenger door recall
We have a problem with our driver side sliding door. It started of not opening up when handle was pulled, now it opens but doesn't close automatically.

The side power sliding doors will not close completely 100% of the time using the automated system when in park. This is happening in both doors. Recall on the doors opening while operating vehicle has been performed. This happens more on an incline but does happen on flat ground. Seems more prevalent when the doors are used frequently.

Takata recall:summaryin the involved vehicles, there is a possibility that under certain limited conditions, if the sliding door opening operation is impeded, the sliding door motor circuit could be overloaded, opening the fuse for the motor.safety riskif this occurs when the door latch is in an unlatched position, the door could open while driving, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.this vehicle is involved in phase 1 of this safety recall. Phase 1 covers the vast majority of vehicles involved in this recall and the remedy is currently available for these vehicles. For the vehicles involved in phase 1, any authorized toyota dealer will replace the instrument panel junction block and install new wire harnesses connecting it to the power sliding doors. But the pre-owner miss this recall, and i buy this vehicle from carmax, they let me finish this recall.
The cable to my side power panel door snapped yesterday. It is hanging from the side of my car - what doesn't seen right is that the cable is rusty - it looks like it snapped because it is was exposed to moisture. The door is completely unusable - i cannot open it using the manual or power mode. My van is in my temperature controlled garage the majority of the time and there should be no reason that the cable is showing signs of rust other than a design flaw.

Vehicle purchased may 2015.after a very dry summer and subsequent recent rainstorms, when we entered the vehicle we noticed water pouring from the b pillars where the seat belt adjustment/retractors are located.also noticed extensive water stains on the headliner on both driver and passenger side.contacted dealer and they suspect, but aren't sure, that it's the sunroof located in the rear passenger area of the vehicle.the dealer suspects leaks and reports this is a common issue with sienna models that have the sunroof.

Power sliding door does not open or close when using any of the electrical buttons in the vehicle as well as on the key fob
In january 2019, at approximately 71,000 miles, the upper hinge of the fuel filler door (the door covering the gas tank access) failed. This appears to have been caused by pressure exerted on the door by the safety switch governing the driver side sliding passenger door. Apparently, this is a well-documented issue not just on nhtsa (case id# #11104672, 11025478), but also with toyota (ticket # 1807172274), and documented in public forums such as http://www.siennachat.com/forum/67-problems-maintenance-repair-gen-3/19274-fuel-filler-door-hinge-broke-anyone-else-have-happen.html#. I have taken my car both to a local repair shop and to toyota and have been told that it is not a warranty issue and would cost over $400 to fix.i believe that this is a mechanical design defect that could not have been foreseen due to the pressure previously mentioned.in addition, i strongly believe that it could cause a safety issue in the case of an accident, as it will prevent the opening of the rear passenger door when the switch is activated.

Purchased my sienna in february, 2019 with 41k miles. Days after purchase, i brought a noise to the dealerships attention and was told it was road noise. Fast forward to june, 2019 and the noise is worse. My driver's side strut is blown at 44k miles. Finding a replacement has been a hassle. This part is obviously a manufacturer defect and should be covered by toyota for replacement. Currently waiting and hoping the backordered struts ship to me so i can get it replaced.also, dealership recommended replacing one strut. Common sense dictates that you always replace struts in pairs, otherwise you will drive a lopsided vehicle and cause more trouble down the road.

I am a disabled federal employee. I have a new handicapconversion van from vmi vantage mobility int. It is not safe to drive. The suspension is horrible
Bought vehicle new, live in florida with no potholes, etc.the van is extremely hard on tires, first set of michelin primacy mxv4 tires lasted to 26,500 and were shot.replacement michelin premier ltx tires are shot in 20,000 miles.both of these michelin tires were supposed to last 60,000 miles each.never any damage to the vehicle, i am the only driver, but i just spent close to $800 at an alignment shop getting camber kits and shims installed and one new front strut all trying to get the vehicle alignment into factory specs.again, never any damage to the vehicle and all tires wore out relatively evenly, just way too prematurely.first problem in my opinion is that all vehicles should have alignment adjustment ability built in, there should not be need for camber bolt kits and shims for the rear axle.next problem is this excessive tire wear on toyota sienna's is clearly documented all over the internet, so this is not an isolated problem, but a wide spread toyota problem.toyota should resolve this for their customers.
When we first leased the vehicle the "new car smell" was overwhelming, it caused me headaches, nausea and a feeling of being disoriented. I brought it back to the dealer several times and they refused to do anything about it, stating "it's just the new car smell." this "smell" has not gone away and every time i drive the car i get a terrible taste in my mouth, a headache and nausea. I refuse to drive the car and my husband has now been driving the car with a car deodorizer to disguise the smell for 7 months and it has not dissipated. This is not fair that the dealer will not do anything and they deny/refuse to test or confirm any "toxicity" exists. I would like the car to be tested to relieve any concerns that i have for my families well being. We have young children and i am not sure of the dangers or effect this could have on their health. This is not fair to the consumer that a dealership would refuse to do anything to address or correct the situation, especially when it is a leased vehicle. Please help if you can!
Notice sent ,november 22 / 2016 . Problem not resolved . I have two children and they travelin the back of the car .
After 1 week of purchase date of 2015 toyota sienna lw awd, i've noticed buzz noises coming from under the front dashboard. I took the car for service at toyota nashua at nashua, nh on 7/18 for buzz noising, auto-dimm rear view mirror failure, and strong burned smell from the ac vents. Buzz noising - dealership claimed it's normal op, but this is not acceptable since servo motor is out of norm operation but refuse the replace it.auto-dimm rear view mirror - dealership claimed they can't fix since it's day time & don't have tool to verify the fault. Burning smell from ac vents - dealership claimed because it's new and they sprayed deodorizer.
The transmission makes a lot of noise when on the road
Cable to open automatic door broke was told this is not covered in the latch system recall. Vehicle was stationary at time of cable break. Also back up camera doesn't work properly and touch screen raido/back up camera continue to reset itself when driving
Power sliding doors, both driver and passenger, malfunctioned. While in park, the doors were open, when we pressed to button to close them, the doors came partly closed, then opened back up, then tried to close, then tried to open. Regardless of what we did, the door would not operate correctly. Eventually, we turned the switch to manual and were able to close the doors. Took the van to dealer. They said it was the motor and replaced it. That was 11-14-2016. Now 1-4-2017, the doors are not working properly again. And when i called the dealer, they never mentioned the recent recall. Neither have i received any notification from toyota regarding the dangerous recall. I happened to hear about it from a family member. I spoke with the dealer about it, they said call toyota. I called toyota, they said that i would eventually get something in the mail. It is hard to believe that a manufacturer would be so irresponsible about major safety issues. Once i looked online, i found that the sliding door problem has been going on for years. How is it legal for a company to purposely continue to endanger people's lives?
When i'm was driving the light keep on blinking saying my trunk was open, my side door was open, my key is not nearby. Sometimes my right side sliding door in the back cannot close automatic. Bring to the dealer they cannot diagnose. Which is a ripe ofc. I even have it on video when it happen . Hoselton dealer told me they cannot diagnose the problem and want to charge me money for it. I got video for them to see still they won't want to diagnose it. I hate that dealsership. Never want to purchase anything from there. Once it out the there lot they don't care or pay any attention to what is going on anymore even you purchased a warranty from them.

Excessive tire wear occurs on outside edge of front tires. Vehicle has had regular alignment and tire rotations. Tires will need to be replaced well ahead of manufacturers treadwear warranty.
The cable to the passenger side automatic door snapped. The passenger side automatic door is now manual due to exorbitant cost of repairs. It was discovered when the vehicle was stationary.
Stopped at a red light when we heard an explosion, continued to drive when we became aware of noise and what appeared to be rushing wind . After checking all doors and windowsand finding they were closed i just happened to slide open the cover leading to the sun roof and saw the exploded window and glass fragments.
While driving @35mph, my 2015 toyota sienna, the third window on the passenger side spontaneously exploded with a loud bang and shattered all over the third seat. We were driving down the road at 65mph on a low traveled highway when there was a loud bang. It was almost as if a gun went off in the van. We pulled off and inspected the van and found out that the sunroof was shattered. The glass was blown outward and no rocks are inside the glass. It is going to cost over 800$ to fix. I am confident that the sunroof exploded.
Power sliding door recall.i have not received any letter/email on the status of the recall since the initial notification.is it my responsibility to contact toyota on the status of the recall parts?
2015 sienna fuel door hinge cracked, vehicle is 45 month old and out of warranty per dealer.
We purchased the sienna new off the lot in 2015, and have had to replace the windshield 5 times due to cracks, and it's already cracked again. Sometimes it cracked due to pebbles or rocks hitting it, but other times it just cracked spontaneously. Once it cracked out of nowhere, and another time it was when we sprayed it with low-pressure water.

Power sliding door recall phase 2 with wheelchair ramp.this is a safety issue.we received the recall notice over a year ago with no remedy yet.i have called multiple times throughout the year and there is still no eta.i don't even know if they are working to resolve this or they have just decided they don't care about disabled veterans.
Water leaks into driver side widows pillar on to side curtain air bags as well as left rear second and third row seat and third seat air bags curtains.
Power door side door malfunction ihave been waiting for remedy but there is not remedy yet i have 2 kids.
While driving on the wide open highway with no other cars around me, my sunroof suddenly shattered. Part of it since blew away on the highway while trying to get to a place where it can be covered.
We bought this van less than a year ago and the fuel door hinge broke.now the sliding door will not open all the time.
After we got the recall with the sliding rear doors fixed, the passenger sliding door won't close anymore. It will go so far and then beep and open up again. I feel that it's a major safety issue and it needs to be addressed. After having the car for only 3 years, we shouldn't be having these kinds of problems with it.
Power sliding door, sliding door can only be opened and closed manually, reall no: 16v-858, untill now i have not received call for remedy

Shortly after purchasing the highlander i started to notice that there is significant distortion in the bottom of the front windshield--to the point where it makes me dizzy! when you pan left to right, or up and down, your sight seem to pass a portion of the windshield that distorts the field of vision.i took the car in and the service manager personally checked it out, confirmed that the distortion exists. They also looked at another same model&make and has the same issue.

Byers toyota in delaware, ohio was made aware of the failure and stated that both mirrors would need to be replaced. In addition, the dealer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
In january 2021, while sitting in the driveway an eight inch crack appeared in the middle of the windshield.the windshield was replaced in september 2020 after purchasing the vehicle as a repo.the windshield that was replaced was cracked the entire width of the glass in the exact same place where the new crack has appeared.the vehicle was taken to the repair shop and it has been determined that there is not enough support for the windshield built into the frame causing the damage to reappear.since then the crack has continued up the windshield and is now approximately 14 inches.
Sunroof spontaneously burston june 6, 2018, around 7:25pm, my family and i were heading home a store, going north on mo-65 at about 65 mph in springfield, mo. Just south of battlefield rd, we heard a loud "pop" sound. We thought our daughter had hit her metal thermos against the back window. When we arrived home, however, i heard a crackling sound and traced it to the sunroof, which was shattered (like a spider web) and bulging at the top.since then, as of 9am the following day, it has continued to bulge more, with a couple of small pieces of glass having popped out onto the top of the glass. It has not yet collapsed into the car, but i am leaving the sunroof shade closed so the glass doesn't fall into the cabin.of note, the weather was mostly sunny, temperature around 80f. The sunroof was closed, as was the sunroof shade. Traffic was fairly light immediately around us. There were no large trucks nearby. No rocks or gravel was hitting the underside of the car, and there were no other sounds of anything hitting the car.

Vehicle wears through tires at an alarming rate (approximately every 15,000 miles). Vehicle has been aligned prior to new tire installation each time; however, tires wear abnormally fast. Driving was under normal conditions, highway and local streets. Several tire manufactures were tried, but all tire wear results were the same.
Excessive tire wear on front outside tires. Wheels/tires have been balanced and rotated their whole life. Alignment of vehicle is good. Tires have been constantly monitored to remain the recommended pressure of 36 psi. Lifespan of tires is supposed to be 60000-80000 miles. Vehicle is currently at 26000, and tires are shot. This is clearly a flawed design. Vehicle is adult driven.
I am on my 3rd set of tires (including original) in a 3 year old van.my second set was purchased at 34449 miles on 12/2/16.i purchased 75000 tires, as of today i have 78850 miles on the van, so i used only 44401 miles of 75000 miles tires.in september of 2018, i noticed a strange wobbling in the rear passenger back of the van.i took it to our mechanic at reese's garage and i told me my tire was about to blow and i needed new tires.he suggested i don't drive the van, as it was "unsafe".took it to another garage (barnes service center) and was told the same thing.i was also told this is a common problem with sienna.i did some research and learned that this is indeed a problem!!i contacted the executive office of toyota, and they indicated that other factors must be considered.my alignment was good, my shocks/struts are good, i don't drive a lot, just to & from my kids school, sporting events, and i don't drive like i'm in the daytona 500.there was excuse after excuse.this is the second time i have been told that my van is "unsafe" and almost had 2 blow outs.i put my concerns on social media and i learned there are many sienna owners complaining about tires wearing too quickly.toyota needs to fix the problem before someone gets hurt.i don't feel safe driving my children in the van.
The van is too heavy for the rated tires, and wears the toes out so dangerously that risk of premature blowout is imminent. Just hit 100k miles on my 2015 awd sienna. 1st set of tires lasted 35k miles with run flats, but was down to the steel mesh. Next set was kelley that lasted 32k without runflats, 3rd set was goodyear that lasted 32k. Ready for set number 4 now, so average of ~32k per pair, each of them had a 50k mile warranty minimum. All 4 sets were toe worn down to steel belt radial and had been rotated properly.
Uneven wear tires. I bought a used toyota sienna last year jan of 2018 with brand new sets of tire. After 20k miles, it was down to 3mm and have it replace. I was searching forums and found out that everybody has the same problem as me. It was a bad engineering of the van.i did the alignment after i got the van but i still experienced the uneven wear. I also balanced the tires every time i feel my steering wheel shaking. There must be a defect on the van as i am not alone with this problem. Two of my tires was bald on the outer side. Most people that owns sienna said that every 20k miles, they have to replace their tires and i agree with them.
My 2015 toyota sienna xle 8 passenger tyre wear less than 25 k. I changed my factory installed tyre on 24 k , after that i did 2 alignments and regular tyre rotation till my odo now 39 k , my front wheels are ready for replacement in another 2-3 k miles. Front wheels are wearing uneven, its outside rim is wearing out. It is definitely a problem with the manufacturer, please help the customers. I m not able to change full set tyre worth 600 dollar every 20k miles.
Recently obtained ~60k service at dealership. Advised that michelin premiere a/s tires purchased just 15k miles previously were measured at 4/32" in the front and 5/32" in the rear and should be replaced. Severe scalloping observed on the outside edge of the tires. The set of four tires were purchased a one of the large, us, wholesale club stores. The toyota service writer stated that my wife that such stores carry inferior quality tires, though they may be branded and labeled the same as the models carried by toyota. I contacted michelin about this claim and was told that it is false. The tires on this vehicle have been rotated roughly every 5000 miles or so during schedule prepaid maintenance on the vehicle. There was a mechanical issue noise from the front end in march of 2018, just after the new tires were installed. Toyota replace the front-right axle shaft, which did not resolve the problem. Ultimately, both front wheel bearings were replaced. Toyota performed the work under warranty and stated that an alignment was not necessary. It could be entirely coincidental, or the axle and bearing work could have every thing to do with the early demise of an $800 set of tires.however, after much research online, it seems that i am not the only one who has experience the issue with a set of high quality tires lasting 15 to 25k miles, though warranted for much greater ranges in the area of 60 to 70k. It appears that there are many people who have had issues with early abnormal tire wear. Toyota in most cases blames the driver, or the tire manufacturer. It would seem clear to me that the problem is with the vehicle. Toyota must be responsible for purchasing and/or replacing tires and performing necessary alignment or suspension maintenance to resolve the issue.
The contact owns a 2015 toyota sienna. The contact stated that the rear driver's side wheel was fractured in several places. The contact stated that the wheel/rim was the original equipment. The contact was concerned that the integrity of the wheel may be compromised. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,410.
